Loli – Episode #40 for Monday, March 22nd
Part 1 Some scenes are combined for clarity. This episode jumped around a lot.

Rafa heads back to his office after witnessing Paulina and Vicente kissing. Pau is right behind him trying to explain away what he saw. Rafa tells her he doesn’t what to know anything. Vicente right on Pau’s heels, says it’s better that Rafa knows. Knows what? Rafa yells. He is fast on the uptake and even though Pau continues to try and cover up, Rafa realizes that Chente is the guy she was cheating with a year ago.

Chente tells him that it couldn’t come as a surprise, Pau and him have known each other since college. Rafa yells, you have been screwing around behind my back since then? To Paulina, so this is your “assistant” that you were working with all night until 11 am in the morning? Rafa rushes from behind the desk to clock Chente a good one. Paulina tries stopping him, then Karen, out of nowhere comes in and physically restrains Rafa from punching Chente’s lights out.

Karen, in full PR/Anger Management consultant mode, asks Rafa what is going on? Chente says, just tell Karen, Pauline tries to get rid of Karen saying it is a private matter, then turning to Chente tells him to stop, can’t he see how affected Rafa is?

Chente continues with the whole hey brother, sorry you found out this way, but its better for all of us, routine. Rafa, with Karen blocking him from moving toward Chente, leaves the office, with fists in the air, still threatening.

Chente tells Paulina, now we don’t have to worry, the weight is lifted from us and we don’t have to hide. Pau isn’t as pleased saying you are the one who feels better, I feel terrible. She walks out leaving Chente in his arrogance.

Rafa and Karen are in the kitchen at Rafa’s apartment. She asks what was going on between him and Vicente. Rafa tells her that he doesn’t want to get angry again and would prefer not to talk about it. She finally gets the hint and leaves.

At Hunky Bar, Apolo, dressing in tight gold shorts and adorned in white and gold fluffy angels wings, brings Christi to Octavio in the bar to tell him that the cash register thief has been found. Bruno, looking even more ridiculous than normal in a hat and red silk cowboy shirt, stands there looking even more stupid than normal.

Loli - Part 2
Christi says she is not the thief, Apolo claims he has the security video to prove she had the money in her hand. (Security cameras in the bodega but not over the cash register?) Christi tells Octavio that she found the money and the thief in the bodega but doesn’t say it is Bruno, just says it is someone close by.

Finally, Bruno comes clean. Apolo immediate and rightfully wants to call the police, but Saint Octavio, after Bruno pleads not to call the police, grabs Bruno by the collar and perp walks him out of the bar, never to return again.

Octavio cannot believe that Bruno stole from him after he was the only one to give Bruno a job. Sam and Gabriel, who were talking about Octavio and Nicky, come down from the apartment after Romeo tells Gabo that his sister was in big trouble. Sam sees the whole situation and can’t believe that her uncle stole from Octavio.

Loli is trying to understand what Nora is telling her about the real reason her dad Augustine abandoned her. Nora said that Loli’s mom fell in love with someone else and he left so she could be happy. When Loli’s mom became ill, Augustine returned to help take care of Loli.

According to Nora, Augustine couldn’t handle the death of his wife, became he became depressed and started gambling. Nora claimed he tried to care for her but just couldn’t. Nora encourages Loli to talk to her dad, it is time she knows the truth. (Hopefully we get more clarification from Augustine, because I am still a bit confused).

Loli is understandably upset by this revelation. She comes out of her room to find Abuelo Augustine play 21 (blackjack) with Nicky. She says, you aren’t betting are you? No, just teaching Nicky how to add. (I really enjoyed this scene because my dad taught me how to play blackjack at an early age. We used pinto beans as bets).

Loli tells Nicky its time for bed. Augustine comments on how hard it must be for Nicky since his mom died. Loli says yes, it is hard, I was young just like him when my mom died. She is nicer to her dad and they both share some good memories of the time he did spend with her. Loli asks to talk about her mom, she wants the truth. Just then they are interrupted by Sam who was dropped off by Bruno.

Loli – Part 3
Sam says she doesn’t understand anything, this morning Loli hates this man and now they are hanging out. Augustine tells Sam she is beautiful like her mom, claims a headache and goes upstairs.

The next morning at the breakfast table, Sam looks worried and tells Loli she is worried about her history test and doesn’t want to eat. Nora and Augustine are in the kitchen making their famous breakfast dishes (I was not familiar with either one) as a competition, or so it seems. Loli (who is wearing a beautifully plaid blue suit jacket with matching pants) is excited to see the dish her dad made as one that reminded her of Sundays in her childhood.

There is fun banter between the Abuelos, led by Augustine with good snark back from Nora. Nicky comments how funny these grandparents can be. Loli gets a bit quiet and when Nora asks what is wrong, Loli tells her, I seem to be looking at a real family. (Awwww) 😊

Rafa stops to pick up Jess for school. She immediately notes that both he and her mom look ready for a fight and prefers to wait out in the car.

Paulina tries to give more excuses about her affair with Vicente. Rafa isn’t interested. He is disgusted that she has even surpassed herself by trying to get back together with him, knowing that she was cheating on him with his very best friend. He warns her that he won’t rat her at to her fans about being such a phony, but she better tell Jessica or he will.

At Global Radio, Mr. Terrible Cortez, Loli and Vicente are in the conference room ready to sign his new contract with Global Radio. In walks Rafa, who encourages TC to really, really read the contract thoroughly. TC claims his lawyers have reviewed the contract and it is all good. Rafa again says, I encourage you to re-read it because there are people here who will not hesitate to stab you in the back, people who claim they are your brother.

Understandably, TC gets nervous, Chente tells Rafa that this is not the time or place for a discussion, Loli tries to keep things calm.

Loli – Part 4
Rafa then lets Chente have it. Telling him, I am not sure if you have the largest avocados ever for flaunting this in front of my face or the smallest avocados ever
for not having the courage to tell me! (Yay Juanita! I get to use the avocado analogy one more time).

TC is not at all impressed with the dynamic and decides not to sign his contract with Global Radio. Loli tries to stop him, but he is having none of the craziness. Loli, completely clueless as to what is going on says she can call TC and fix this with a quick conversation.

Chente tells Rafa, you have just lost me one of the biggest contracts in Global Radio history. Rafa doesn’t care and tells Loli to leave the conference room because this is going to get really good. Loli says she does not think this is the time or place to work out what is very clearly a personal issue.

Rafa insist she leaves and Loli cautiously walks out. Vicente accuses Rafa of being very unprofessional and is responsible for losing this great contract. Rafa throws it right back in Vicente’s face telling him, oh look how professional you are! I feel like smashing you face right now, but now knowing your true colors, you will accuse me of assault so I won’t give you that pleasure. Just know that you are the worst boss I have ever had and I hope you are immensely happy with Paulina!

Rafa storms out, passes by Loli’s office where she is nervously pacing and yells at her to “decide now.” (Did this mean decide to be with Rafa or not?). Immediately, Mati and Rox come running in to find out what is going on? Everyone wants to know! Loli tells them they lost the Terrible Cortez contract, that’s all.

Back at Mariana’s casa (it still feels like her house) Nora is surprising all of us by playing a classical piano piece. Augustine is listening contently. Nora hits a wrong note or two and says it has been years that she has played. Augustine tells her he always enjoyed hearing her play. Nora cannot understand why Mariana kept the piano, even very well-tuned, when she didn’t even play. Augustine says maybe because she knew that you would end up here.

Nora shares that she will never understand why Mariana didn’t trust her with the nietos. Augustine says, that doesn’t matter, Nora is here now and will help Loli raise them. Nora ends up cancelling her flight back to Mexico.

Loli – Part 5
Sam and Jess are at school, Jess asks why Sam didn’t answer her calls the night before. Sam lies and says she was out shopping with Nora and Nicky and forgot her phone. Jess says she just wanted to know if they were going to study that evening or not?

Sam lies again and says she has plans with Nora and Nicky again that evening (why is she lying? Is she embarrassed about Gabo?). Jess doesn’t seem to convinced but lets it go as she sees Carol walking toward them with a new guy. Carol rudely introduces Sam as her rara Prima to the new student Joaquin, who just moved from Arizona. Jess introduces herself and clarifies that Carol must be confused because Sam is far from being rara.

I was surprised to learn that Carol is the student body President and it is her role to give new students the tour of the school. Carol is trying to persuade Joaquin to join the basketball team but he is more interested in the drama club. He becomes much more interested when he learns that Jess is already signed up.

Back at Global Radio, Mati and Rox are complaining about the unprofessionalism of the senior leaders while they are trying to just do their jobs. Rox lets Mati know after some prying that she enjoyed her time with Cesar and is considering continuing to see him. They both declare themselves part of “Team Rafa” as they take sides against Chente and whatever is going on.

Chente calls Loli in and precedes to disparage Rafa for his unprofessionalism. Loli deduces that Rafa found out about him and Pauline, she hopes they talked to him? No? He found out the same way you did. Loli can’t believe it. She is telling Chente to make it right just as Rafa enters the office, gets upset because Loli knew and didn’t tell him! He tells Chente off again and resigns from his position.

Rafa is furious calling Chente his “brother of the soul” Chente wants Rafa to take a few days to cool off. Rafa tells both of them to basically go to hell and leaves in a huff.

Sam, Gabo and sullen Christi are talking. Christi leaves the two to being “novios” Sam ask why she thinks they are novios? Gabo says he doesn’t know because Sam isn’t his type, she reciprocates with the same response, both smiling. Enter Octavio and Gabo tells them to talk and make things right.

Loli – Part 6
The conversation with Sam and Octavio is heartbreaking, but at least Sam knows that Octavio really does love Nicky like a son, but it is Loli who has forbidden him from seeing him again, Sam offers to help Octavio with Loli, even for him to see Nicky behind Loli’s back. To his credit, Octavio doesn’t want to do this. (Gosh those tears sure looked real).

Mel has started her new job as assistant to the assistant Angie (oh brother!) and is being trained by Lupe to make copies. Each have to make 1,500 copies and instead of using the copy feeder mechanism, they are making copies one at a time. No wonder nothing gets done.

It doesn’t take any time at all for Mel to become part of the office gossip group (they even have an acronym name for Chisme that I couldn’t catch) even after Loli tells her not to get involved especially when the senior executives and station owner Don Rogelio are present.

Someone has tipped off Don Rogelio of what is going on at Global Radio, he and the entire board of directors have called an emergency meeting. He tells Rafa that they don’t not accept his resignation and then tells Chente that the board is asking for his resignation effective immediately as President and General Manager of the station. (YAY!)

Chente cannot believe that his dad is doing this to him. Don Rogelio, looking sad but determined says it wasn’t him, but the board that made that decision. Chente says the only way that will happen is if they take him out feet first. (Don’t tempt me Chente).

Loli

Hi all! I hope you enjoy this extra long recap. There was so much going on in this episode. I know I missed a lot of dialogue so please fill in anything I missed.

I did intentionally leave out the two scenes with Paulina and Karen mainly because I didn’t care what either one had to say, but mostly because their overly flowery jumpsuits were making me dizzy! I also left out the ridiculous attempt by Karen to try and conduct mediation with Rafa and Chente using plastic replicas of each other. I am pretty sure none of you cared that the Bruno/Mel scenes were only covered very briefly.

I am still very confused about Loli’s childhood timeline. If anyone can help shed some light there, I would appreciate it!

loli

Wow, VVS, what a magnificent recap! You've captured everything, and I really appreciate your asides, such as "(Don't tempt me, Chente!)", and your questions. I had some of the same questions, and I find it reassuring to know that I'm not alone. For example, I too wondered why Sam was lying to Jess. As you suggest, perhaps it has to do with Gabe. And good question about the security cameras. How is it possible that there aren't cameras focused on the cash register? Also, I too am definitely still confused about the backstory concerning Loli's father. However, I'm also somewhat confused about your referring to him as Augustine. Isn't his name Domingo?

I loved your referring to Octavio as "Saint Octavio." Yes, over and over again his anger (and sometimes his better judgment) gives way to his basic decency and kindness.

I was struck by the large number of dresses in Melissa's closet. And I bet she didn't buy them at a second-hand shop! No wonder she and Bruno don't have any money.

So Jess may soon have a new novio, Juaquín. I guess that makes sense, since Sam now seems to be interested in Gabe. I'm happy to see Carol foiled again.

I was surprised when Nora said she didn't know the name of the man that Loli's mother had an affair with. I was betting on its being Don Rogelio. I'm reluctant to give up that idea quite yet. Perhaps it was Don R, and she claims she doesn't know who it was because she's now quite, um, taken with him.

And speaking of being reluctant to give up on an idea, I'm still holding out a slight bit of hope for Octavio being the bio dad of Nicky and/or Sam.

Loli

Oh my goodness Juanita! Loli's dad is Domingo! I have no idea where I got Augustine from. It was a long weekend of work for me and this time change is still not working for me.

There are still a lot of questions out there. I am leaning toward Octavio being Sam's dad. Mariana and Octavio might have connected somewhere in a dark romantic corner in Vegas! That is why Octavio didn't recognize her from the pictures. Maybe what happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas for Octavio, but became Sam for Mariana!

loli

VVS, I'm not sure why I didn't see your final message before I posted my comment about your great recap. Oh well... I share your confusion about the timeline re Loli's childhood, so I'm afraid I can't shed any light on that. However, I do want to assure you that it is absolutely NOT necessary to cover everything that happens in an episode. There's no need to apologize for not including things you found boring/trivial/silly. There are a number of perfectly acceptable/appropriate formats to use for a recap. I'll be doing tonight's, and my guess is that it will have just three parts (obviously I don't know without seeing the episode, but the vast majority of my recaps these days run to three parts). I don't force them into three parts--if an episode gives me only enough of interest to me for 2 parts, that's what I'll put up. Likewise, I have no objection to putting up more than 3.

Part of the point of having comments is to give commenters an opportunity to mention things of interest to them that the recapper hasn't mentioned, or to provide more details.

loli

"Maybe what happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas for Octavio, but became Sam for Mariana!" VVS, I love it!

Loli

Thanks Juanita, I appreciate the recapping tips. It seems like once I start writing I just can't stop! Your recaps always seem to cover everything so I think I just need more experience and practice.

loli

VVS, thanks so much! Your recap was terrific! I also loved your asides: Oh, brother! Don't tempt me, Chente!

So...what I think happened is that Loli's mother had an affair and...maybe even ran off with the guy. Domingo tried to make up to Loli the loss of her mother (I thought she died; maybe she had an affair and then died), but his grief was overwhelming. He then got into gambling as a way to forget his troubles and pretty much disappeared from Loli's life.

Well for some reason I rather hoped Melissa would prove to have hidden talents that would be brought out with a real job. Well, not so much. She appears to be totally useless. I could not believe the writers had her standing with the "Gossip Girls" and munching on potato chips. [My son was born in July and I recall having a thing for watermelon. Luckily it wasn't potato chips.]

Vicente was SO awful in this episode. When he was sitting with the board members (I thought there were a lot more of them in an earlier episode) he said maybe it would be for the best to let Rafa resign. Paulina was pretty disgusted as well. Maybe Terrible Cortez would reconsider and she and TC could become a couple. [That was a joke, guys.]

I loved, loved, loved Chente getting fired. I'm sure the whole staff will be overjoyed. I still remember that scene in the first episode when he pretentiously announces Rafa's getting the VP job after calling Loli up and having her be basically humiliated.

The new guy, Joaquin, looks like the perfect guy for Jess. Airhead Carol kept trying to push him toward basketball, but the guy has a sensitive soul.

I can't believe they just let the Gus story line drop off. He was suspended, but was it for the whole semester? And he never explained himself to Sam.

I also enjoyed the "family breakfast".

Loli

Thank you novelera for trying to clarify the Loli childhood storyline. I laughed at the idea of Pauline and that non-hairy tongue devil Terrible Cortez becoming a new couple!

Chente was just awful, he is messing around on his best friend with his wife, in the work place and he calls Rafa unprofessional? I think the staff is going to be thrilled with Chente getting canned! Is it possible that Don Rogelio, who just might be Loli’s real dad, assigns her as the new President/General Manager?

Mel and the office gossips were no big surprise at all.

What did happen to Gus? That was a necessary closure that we needed!

Loli

What an episode! And What a recap, VVS! Don’t sell yourself short, I think you’re great at this. Great comment, too.

I’m still finding Loli’s timeline confusing. Are they confusing us on purpose for a big reveal later?

Dear God, Carol is student council president?

I was very distracted by Pau’s eyebrows last night. They seem to get longer and darker with each show. Who is doing her makeup?

Hallelujah! Vicente was fired! I’m sure he won’t go without a fight and he will do his best to make everyone miserable.

Once again, an Octavio scene touched me the most.

I had to go back to look at those annoying gossip ladies according to the captions:
In Spanish: Comercio Humilde de Informacion y (unintelligible) Etica
In English: General Office Service for Speculating about Important Persons.

About recapping. Sometimes I think I include too many details, but I worry about leaving out something important. And I find it difficult to recap very boring or very annoying characters and stupid storylines. I suppose recappers, as well as commenters, should always take the basic Caray rules into consideration. I am grateful to all those who take on the recapping challenge and I enjoy reading the diverse styles of writing.

dondi356

Loli

Thank you dondi356 for the great comments and recapping advise. I hope you had a chance to read my comments regarding your fabulous recap for the Friday episode!

I thought Paulina looked overly done in the make-up as well and was she wearing the same outfit for two days straight?

Thank you for sharing this important piece of information! It is pretty funny.

“I had to go back to look at those annoying gossip ladies according to the captions:
In Spanish: Comercio Humilde de Informacion y (unintelligible) Etica
In English: General Office Service for Speculating about Important Persons.”

Octavio is really a sweet guy.

Yes, Carol is the Student Council President! Shocker!

La Suerte de Loli - #41 - p 1 de 4

Don Rogelio has just told Vicente that he is no longer president of Global Radio. Vicente is furious. "This is my company! No one can fire me!" Don Rogelio explains that it was the decision of the Board. Vicente doesn't see it that way. "Papá, you're stabbing me in the back!" He then looks at the board members and accuses them of being cowards. Vicente turns to his father again and asks, "Is that why you named me president? So you could humiliate me in front of everyone?" He storms out. Rafa says that this was not his intention when he quit. Don Rogelio insists that the decision had nothing to do with Rafa. "The company's best interests are what we need to think about and put first. We need to reorganize and adjust."

Vicente is sitting angrily in his office (oops, in what was his office). Paulina comes in and asks how he is. Vicente tells her that his father just fired him. He doesn't want to take it out on her, so she should leave. He wants to be alone. She leaves.

Paulina tells Angie that Don Rogelio isn't being fair, and she wants to go talk to him. Angie argues against that. "Don't get involved. He just fired his own son. Imagine what he could do to you. What will you say, that you're sleeping with your husband's best friend? No. People will talk."

Mati and Rox are in Loli's office, discussing what just happened. They tell her that if Vicente is no longer president, and Rafa has resigned, then..."You're the new president of Global Radio!!" Loli tells them they're wrong. The Board did not accept Rafael's resignation.

Don Rogelio is again talking with Vicente. He tells him his removing him from the presidency is for his own good. Vicente asks that Don Rogelio leave Paulina out of this. Don Rogelio tells him that if he loves Paulina, he should spend more time with her. He assures Vicente, "You're my son--I worry about you." Vicente replies, "You just want me to be a mirror of you." Don Rogelio tells him he's wrong, and in time he'll realize that.

Loli comes home rather depressed. Her father wants to know what's wrong. Loli tells him she wants to talk with him about her mother. "She was a saint," Domingo says. Loli replies, "She cheated on you." He tells her pretty much what we've already heard from Nora. Loli says that she's been spending her life judging him. It would have been great had he told her all this sooner. Right now, what she wants most is that he get rehabilitated and get well. Domingo insists that he is well. He proposes that he could take care of the kids. She tells him that she can't depend on him. "You need medical attention. You're not well." Domingo again insists that he's fine. "If I'm lying, let lightning strike me." Immediately there's a loud thunder clap and a bolt of lightning visible through the window!

Rox and Cesar have met for coffee. She tells him she has to go, she has a lot of things to do. He says even a little time is fine. He'd like to see her again. She tells him she'll check her calendar and call him in a few days. He kisses her gently on the cheek and leaves. She asks herself in seeming disbelief, "Rox, when have you ever taken things slow with a guy?"

Bruno, Melissa, and Carol are seated at the table having breakfast. Bruno tells Melissa that the business isn't doing well (translation: I was caught stealing money and kicked out). Melissa talks about the baby-to-be, whom she refers to as Laurie. Bruno says they don't even know the baby's sex yet. Melissa is sure it's a boy.

La Suerte de Loli - #41 - p 2 de 4

Melissa encourages Bruno to find some kind of work. "Look at me," she says. "I'm pregnant and have no experience, but here I am, an Executive Assistant!"
Carol still can't believe that her mother is going through with the pregnancy. She tells Melissa and Bruno that she's not hungry, and she leaves the table. Melissa tells Bruno with some amusement that Carol is jealous of her little brother.

Paulina comes to see how Vicente is. "They fired me from my own company!" he exclaims. Paul proposes talking to Don Rogelio. "It might help," she says. "It's my fault, too." Vicente disagrees. "Only my father is at fault." "I understand," says Pau, "but how will my daughter feel when she finds out?" I have to protect her...and me." "What are you saying?" Vicente asks. Pau replies: "It's better if we don't see each other any more."

Karen gives Rafa a back massage. "Relax. Close your eyes. All this may be resolved by tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy the here and now with me." Her strategy seems to be working.

The Global Radio gossips are at it full time. The story enlarges as it's told. One of the morsels of gossip being spread: Don Rogelio has cut Vicente out of his will. FF>>

When Karen comes to work in the morning, she's told that Don Rogelio wants to see her. She finds him together with Rafa and Loli. It turns out that Don R has not called them together to announce the new president of Global Radio. Instead, he tells them, "You are my three vice presidents. My three pillars. I want you to work together while I decide." Loli says, "But we're so different." Karen ponts out, "for that reason, we'd complement each other." Rafa says that something doesn't seem right. Don Rogelio tells them that they should concentrate on the projects. And he wants Terrible Cortez back, no matter what it costs. He points out the strengths of each of the VPs. Karen is an expert in Public Relations. Loli has indisputable expertise in Production. Rafa is a genius when it comes to strategic planning. "You're the present and the future of the company." (It's not clear whether he's addressing that last statement to the three of them or just to Rafa, whom he is looking at as he says it.)

Sam and Jess watch what I think are auditions for the school play. The first person isn't very good. Then Juaquín recites the lines with energy. Jess is quite impressed.

Nora is on the phone. Apparently the person she's talking to (probably Don R) has to work. "We'll do it another time," Nora tells the person on the phone. "My deceased husband always used to work a lot, too." Domingo notices that Nora is interested in the person on the phone. He encourages her to go for it. She tells him he should concern himself with getting someone for himself. Domingo says he wouldn't stand a chance, he's so unattractive (alas, he got that right). Nora tells him that what's important is what's inside.

Loli leaves a phone message for Cortez, who apparently isn't taking her calls. Karen says perhaps she should try. "I may be new, but I know how to get what I want." (Uh oh, Loli, look out!) Karen suggests that the three of them do a team-building exercise.

Vicente has come to Global Radio. He walks slowly, holding a phone. He seems somewhat odd. Is he losing it? Melissa and Lupe see him; Melissa clearly finds him attractive. Lupe seems surprised. Melissa says "I may be married and pregnant, but I can still admire God's creations." Vicente calls to Lupe. She doesn't come to him. "Who's coming with me?" he asks. When no one responds, he accuses them all of being his father's bootlickers. He again asks, "Who's with me?" Melissa starts to respond that she is. Lupe pokes her.

La Suerte de Loli - #41 - p 3 de 4

Bruno has come to see Nora. She's delighted, but Bruno says his business isn't going well, and Melissa is pregnant. Nora's face lights up at the news. "I knew you'd be happy," says Bruno. But then Nora asks, "Isn't Melissa a little old for this?" Domingo greets Bruno warmly. He hasn't seen Bruno since he was a child, bright and energetic. "He's unemployed," says Nora. Bruno takes issue with how she's put it. The next thing we know, Domingo tells bruno he wants to ask him for a favor. (I don't think we find out what it is. My guess is a "loan")

During her podcast, Paulina tells her listeners that "Divorce is not the end, it's a beginning. The important thing is to reinvent ourselves. A bad moment is what is bad, not you." Melissa comes up to her. "I'm your #1 fan, but you sounded down. You don't want people to know you're devastated. Take a deep breath" and she then lets out a very loud sound. "You'll sound happy. And try smiling as you talk." She illustrates how that, too, makes her sound happy. "Remember, it's the moment that is bad, not you." Melissa leaves. Pau turns to Angie and says, "I must have been really bad!" But then she adds, "I like her! She pays attention."

Karen has arranged for the three VPs to do a team-building exercise. Loli says that she doesn't think "this cheap version of Tibet" will be of much use.Karen assures her that "we'll all learn more about each other." They enter the house where this will take place. A woman comes down the stairs and tells them to put their cell phones in the basket. Loli isn't pleased. Karen says it's only for 3 hours. Karen then tells the woman that they're hear to see Salman. "Salman was transferred to India," the woman replies, "but I'll lead the session." We then see them sitting crosslegged on the floor. The woman tells Karen to look in Rafa's eyes, connect with him, and say something nice about him. Karen says Rafa is a good leader, loves a challenge, and cares about people. He had a small anger problem, but he dealt with it. Each of them is told to do something similar. Look in the person's eyes, "connect" with him/her, and say something nice. Rafa re Loli: hard worker, dedicated, talented, inherited 2 kids whom she cares for. Loli to Rafa: great colleague, easy to work with, supportive, good father. Karen to Loli: professional, punctual, sympatica. Loli to Karen: nice hair, organized, persistent.

Mati asks Rox how her date with Cesar went. Rox tells him it was OK, but something was missing. Mati tells her, "What's missing is that he's not like all the jerks you've dated." He then gets up to go deal with his (artificial) baby.

Still at their so-called team-building exercise, the three VPs are given something in paper cups to drink. I don't know what it was, but it doesn't seem as if it tastes good. It makes them all act very weird, or perhaps just uninhibited (if there's a difference). Karen is crawling along the floor and thinks she's about to fall off a cliff. Loli is dropping flower petals on Rafa's face. The person leading the session is chanting "La Pachamama, La Pachamama and her act of love."

Christie and Gabe are talking. She asks him, "Are you novios? I know you like her." Gabe replies that he likes Sam, but she doesn't reciprocate. "We're very different. She lives in a mansion, and look where I live." Christie asks, "You think she won't like you if you don't have a house? She wouldn't come here if she weren't interested."

La Suerte de Loli - #41 - p 4 de 4

In a park-like setting, Nicky asks Sam why Loli didn't come to pick him up from school. Sam tells him that Loli had some kind of team-building exercise. (I pity the poor team that goes through such nonsense.) Sam then asks Nicky what Nicky wants to do when Octavio gets back from Australia. Nicky isn't even sure he's coming back. Sam gets up, tells Nicky to stay where he is, and she goes off to meet with Octavio, who is standing nearby. He's very uncomfortable about Sam's arrangement. Sam tells him Loli doesn't have to know, this will be our secret. Suddenly, Nicky hears Octavio's voice and catches sight of him. He races over to him and jumps into his arms. "Papi!!"

The 3 VPs are still in what Loli described as a cheap version of Tibet. Karen is totally out of it. She says to Rafa and Loli, "You're going to laugh when I tell you I hallucinated that you were sleeping together." We then see Rafa and Loli lying fully clothed on the ground, sound asleep in each other's arms as the episode ends.

Thank you Juanita for this super recap of a rather strange episode. Your comments regarding several situations were spot on.

That cheap version of Tibet was bizarre, a team building exercise it was not. I hope Global Radio doesn’t have a drug testing policy. I thought the “say something good about this person” exercise was funny. Clearly, Loli and Rafa are just hiding what they feel about each other. The Tibetan tea sure proved that!

The Don Rogelio and Chente encounters were unfortunate. Maybe there is back story there we don’t really know. I am not defending Chente, but it is hard to live up to a parent’s standards sometimes. I think I remember Don R telling Rafa he wished Rafa was his son. I am sure Chente feels that from his dad and it has made him even more resentful. Maybe Don R and Chente should take some cheap Tibet team building from Karen the PR person.

The 3 pillars of VP’s are going to have it rough. Karen in particular. She was late to work, wearing jeans, showing that excessive cleavage and immediately wants to intrude on Loli’s turf. I hope Terrible Cortez does come back, but because of Loli.

I thought Cesar was a bit too pushy last night. Glad Rox is taking it slow.

Way too much Mel and Bruno and not enough Hunky Bar and Octavio in this episode. Thanks again Juanita!

BTW HALIMACANDY, Nora's "potential" new love interest is Loli's dad DOMINGO, I messed up and called him AUGUSTINE in my Monday recap. Avocados and Toss Salads! I am in! LOL.

Thanks VERY much, VVS, for your great comments. I too thought the episode was rather strange. Moreover, I didn't even find it all that interesting. I think you've identified the problem perfectly: "Way too much Mel and Bruno and not enough Hunky Bar and Octavio in this episode." Damn, if I had thought of it, I'd have just said that at the start and posted the shortest recap ever!

I find myself wondering how much Karen knew about what this particular "team-building exercise" was like. Perhaps it was very different under Salman, who has apparently been transferred to India. If all the new agey nonsense we saw in the episode is anything like what Karen was expecting, I'd fire her on the spot.

Like you, I was glad to see Rox taking things slowly with Cesar. But I didn't feel that he was pushy. He was quite pleasant about her saying she had to go, assuring her that even a short date was a pleasure. And he kissed her gently on the cheek.

So they were drinking Tibetan tea? Does Tibetan tea normally have that kind of effect, or was it perhaps laced with some kind of drug?

I hope we'll see more Hunky Bar (sans Bruno) and Octavio tonight.

My comments on what was doubtless a splendid recap of a totally weird episode will have to be much later. I've been busy all day working on my actual job from home.

And, as I may have mentioned, my Spanish class is now in the daytime and on Zoom. I hate it so much. It starts at 3PM.

All I can say, w/o reading Juanita's recap, is that Karen got what she deserved.

Loli

Thanks so much, Juanita. You gave us a fantastic recap despite the strange episode. Great asides.

After everything that has happened, does Rogelio really think it’s wise to ask Rafa, Loli, and Karen to work together? And then he adds fuel to the fire by dangling the presidency in front of them. I know he said why he included her, but Karen? Come on, writers!

Mel fits right in with the stupidities at Global. She’s got a bright future there. Maybe they will get her own podcast.

Not enough Octavio.

I could have used some of the Tibetan tea to watch this.

Finally have time to comment on your splendid recap, Juanita! You got the weirdness in spades. Karen is an idiot. They just got their marching orders from Don Rogelio, and she decides to spend the rest of the day doing things that give Holistic Training a bad name. That whole episode was just unbelievably ridiculous. And, as I said earlier, Karen got what she deserved seeing Loli and Rafa asleep in each others' arms.

Wow, Melissa has nothing to offer an employer; but she sure has self-confidence. The nerve of walking up to Paulina and giving her advice after her radio show. And, of course, it was Angie who took offense.

The audition at the high school featured Jess and Joaquin, shown as lovers of drama earlier on. Carol and Sam are in the audience watching; and Carol opines that Jess is very bad at acting. She then raves over Joaquin's audition. I don't know if Jess was really that bad or Carol's jealousy caused her to say that.

Google tells me that the characters mentioned in the audition could be from a play entitled: Don Juan Tenorio: "The young novice Doña Ines chastely falls in love with Don Juan, then dies after he abandons her." Pretty racy for a high school play.

So...it appears that Vicente's plan is to completely ignore having been fired by the Board of Directors of Global Radio. Hopefully the person cutting the payroll checks was notified and he will be working for free from now on.

Oops, where is that rock I can crawl back under?? How embarrassing--I confused Jess and Carol! Arrgh! True, they both have long dark hair, but I usually think of Jess as much more attractive than Carol. After reading your comment, novelera, I went back and took another look. Carol looked prettier to me than she usually does, but there was still no excuse, since the teacher even addressed Jess by name when she was on stage. Oh well.... It must have been the Tibetan tea I had!

Very interesting point, novelera, about the play they may have been auditioning for. As you say, it doesn't sound like the sort of play a high school would put on.

Oops, Wednesday's episode is about to begin. Gotta run.

Fragments from my memory:

Pau disappoints me and ends up in bed with Vicente. He all but twirls his moustache demonstrating how evil he is. He hints at some dark plan. And also mentions starting his own radio station [novelera laughed out loud].

Karen is a bit out of sorts about the Tibetan adventure. She threatens legal action over the phone and confronts Rafa and Loli. They are giggly, apparently still high.

Terrible is hired, apparently because of Loli. She gets warm thanks from Rafa and IIRC none at all from Karen.

Child protective shows up at Hunky Bar about Gabriel and Christi. These two apparently went to the same training courses as the one who was grilling Loli a month or so ago..nasty all the way. The kids escape and spend the night at Loli's house, secreted away by Sam.

The truth about Octavio having spent time with Nicky is revealed to Loli.

Melissa thinks she's going to be a star at GR but faints away at work.

Arturo's sister got a job in Vegas and left their mother alone. She appears to have dementia. But she certainly remembers Mati and is very fond of him. Mati volunteers to care for her and take a day off from GR.

That's about all I remember.

Thanks very much, novelera, for getting the ball rolling.

I loved your describing Vicente [hiss here] as all but twirling his moustache demonstrating how evil he is. And I too was disappointed in Pau for apologizing and telling Vicente "I'll do anything to be with you." Has she forgotten her concern about how Jess will take this "new" development?

I enjoyed Rafa's accidentally calling Karen "Loli." After all the new agey garbage in Tuesday's episode, I found myself disliking Karen more intensely, but apparently she too wash't pleased with a lot of what happened during their team-destroying exercise. Indeed, Rafa seemed more pleased than she was, which also annoyed me. When told that they were drugged, he says "but it was fun."

So I guess I was wrong about the favor Domingo was going to ask of Bruno. Apparently he asked Bruno to accompany him in a visit to Mariana's grave. Why does Domingo care so much about Mariana? Just because she was Loli's best friend???

Well, I now think it's likely that Melissa will have a miscarriage. I've been thinking that might happen all along, but last night I felt more sure. She was having some discomfort, and she says to the fetus, "Don't cause me problems, baby. Carol did." And not long after that, she goes to Global Radio and faints. An act straight out of the telenovela medical manual.

Oh, darn, the new Telemundo y Más page will go up in less than 45 minutes. I think I'll post this now and perhaps post it again on the new page. Or not.
