Hercai - #38 – Parte 1 de 3

Nasuh, red in the face is yelling at Reyyan, the usual stuff about her shaming the family. Yaren chimes in that she heard Reyyan say to Zehra that she’d been with Miran. She coos that SHE cannot hide things from her Grandfather. [While we wait for the anvil for Yaren, how about some poison oak or ivy on her lady parts?]

Apparently Grandpa Tyrant has forgotten Miran’s threat to tell Hazar about the plot to kill Reyyan; because he raises his arm to add to my spread sheet of slaps received by Reyyan. But Hazar grabs his arm. “That’s enough! Every time you raise your hand, my daughter is afraid. I won’t accept your raising your hand to her. From now on no one will say a single word about Reyyan!”

GT replies: “They threw her in the street with her chastity and she didn’t hang her head. They took our home from us. Azat can’t live with his family. This is because of the atrocities your daughter caused. And she had the boldness to go out with that bastard.” He’s red in the face and almost shaking but, sadly, STILL NO STROKE. Hazar: “How many times do I have to say it so you’ll finally understand? Nothing that’s happened is Reyyan’s fault.”

Cihan the snake pipes up and says that he also saw her last night with Miran. “She brought the serpent here (look who’s talking) to risk our lives and satisfy her base instincts. She is that way because you’re too soft with her.” Seems like Cihan got his personality from his father. “We could put 100 men at the door, but it won’t work if she keeps bringing him here. This girl destroyed everything. [Novelera jumps up from the couch to say that, if his daughter had spoken up when she overheard Sultana and Gonul’s conversation, there would have been no fake wedding.]

At last Hazar gets himself a column in my spread sheet of slaps and lays a good one on Cihan. “How dare you talk to me that way?

Nasuh says that Hazar is his son, and he loves him. But, if this girl brings more problems, he will have no pity. “Take your daughter from here (meaning the patio). Either you leave her locked up or tie her to your bed like a dog. I don’t want to see her walking through the house.” Yaren smirks.

Hazar: “No. This isn’t how it will be. If my daughter makes mistakes, it’s my responsibility. Her mother and I are the only ones allowed to correct her. I won’t lock her in her room. Where I live, she also will live. If you don’t respect this, I will leave. If my daughter’s existence is a danger to you, I’ll take my family far from here.” The old SOB backs down immediately. Reyyan at last gives Yaren the disgusted look she so richly deserves.

Gonul is crying over her wedding dress. Miran comes in, saying they need to talk. He thanks her for signing the divorce papers. She tells him she’s accepted things. No one can force someone to be in love. He says he loves her like a brother. Gonul: “If only we weren’t two innocents sacrificed for the sins of our grandmother. [Amen, sister!] Miran tells her he’ll always be there for her. She replies: “You don’t want to see me sad, and I want to see you happy.” He leaves the room.

Gonul: “While you’re looking at the stars, you don’t realize how you’re sinking. But I will save you from the abyss that is swallowing you.” [Gonul still playing that old delusional blues song.]

Hercai - #38 – Parte 2 de 3

Azize waylays Miran and tells him he better reconsider. He says that they’ll begin a new life together, something impossible to do here. BG: “This is your home, where your blood lives. You’d leave us for a Sadoglu!” Miran: “It isn’t Reyyan. I want to leave.” BG drags his parents from the tomb once more. She goes on and on trying to guilt him. He finally tells her: “Enough! If you keep this up, I’ll not only leave this house, but your life.” [For once she looks like she’s worried.]

But, Viewerville has to suffer through still more. She says: “I buried three sons. You know this. My heart is dry from all the tears. But I got back on my feet for you, for Gonul, for Elif. “ The self-pity party finally winds down. Miran replies: “You’ll always be my grandmother, my blood. We’ll have the wedding here (something I don’t think was in his plans). We’ll have a family dinner. We’ll kiss your hand and ask for your blessing and, when this is done, I’ll take my wife away. Don’t ask me for more than this.” After he walks away we see that stone face and she rubs away the fake tear.

Hazar is giving Reyyan a stern lecture. “How could you go somewhere with the man who broke your heart? Maybe you don’t care about your own wellbeing, but have you thought about how this is making your mother and Gul suffer?” [Well…Gul…not so much.] “I can’t let you continue to let them stab you in the heart over and over. I never raised my voice with you before. But, if you make us experience this fear for you about this guy who already ruined your life, you’re showing me a lack of respect. You have to obey me. I won’t let you give this guy your heart so that he once again leaves it in pieces.”

Gonul tells BG that Miran is leaving. “Aren’t you going to stop this? I had to give up my marriage, but not Miran.” [I think she means seeing him on a regular basis.] BG: “What would be different if he stayed living here? Gonul: “We took a path together but it’s not working out that way.” BG: “patience patience yada yada.”

NOT confined to her room and wearing a very pretty dress Reyyan is playing with her sister Gul. She has drawn some bicycles on a wall and puts Gul on top to pretend to ride that bike. She gets on the wall to ride her own bike drawing. Reyyan chokes up behind Gul’s back, thinking perhaps about never seeing her again. We hear her thoughts as she gives Gul a long, sisterly lecture. She tells Gul to always make her dreams come true and never let anyone change her white into black.

Miran is getting dressed for his wedding. [Dondi! He changed his hair just for you! He looks much handsomer with that hair off his forehead.]

BG has draped the walls of the konak with black bunting. [Excessive much, you miserable b@#*h!] Miran demands it come off.

Reyyan gets a text that the registrar is there and should Miran come to get her. She texts something back after watching her parents outside her window.

Firat tells Miran that he’s moving too fast. Miran replies that Reyyan wanted this and, besides, he can’t protect her and make her happy if she’s not by his side. Firat asks why Reyyan changed her mind so quickly. And Firat is concerned she’s giving up her family. [Obviously neither Miran nor Firat have any idea about the ultimatum given by the mediator.]

Hercai - #38 – Parte 3 de 3

Lurking behind Miran and Firat, the spider drips some poison. “Maybe she’s not coming. That family is not known for keeping their word.”

Reyyan has a lovely moment with her family. She’s washed Gul’s hair and Hazar talks about how he’s loved to smell the hair of both his daughters. Smiling happily he says that Reyyan’s name means Puerta al Paraiso (door to heaven) and Gul’s rosa. Reyyan thinks to herself that she’s been his puerta al infierno.

We next see Reyyan and Melike walking on that country road near the house Nasuh hates. They are very sad to be leaving each other. Melike gives Reyyan her dote (dowry), an envelope with some family pictures inside. [We note that Nasuh, Cihan, Handan, and Yaren are in none of the pictures!] They embrace once more.

As Reyyan walks away we hear what the mediator said to her. “If you decide there’s no marriage, then the only other thing is to spill blood. Azat and Miran would die.” And she also hears her father say he’d leave the family for her sake.

Miran is pacing. Apparently Reyyan texted she’d come to him. But she’s not there yet.

Zehra has prepared all of Reyyan’s favorite foods. The whole clan is at the table, with Nasuh, Handan and Yaren looking sour. Zehra sends Melike to get Reyyan.

Miran runs to the door, planning to go for Reyyan, but she’s there. He embraces her while the harpies look on. But Firat, Esma and Elif look happy she’s there.

The witch in purple makes a phone call. It’s to Nasuh. Dripping with malice, she tells him they’ll soon be family. “I see you didn’t come to the wedding of your granddaughter. I suppose you couldn’t bear the betrayal of your granddaughter.” “What wedding? he sputters. BG: “I thought you sent Reyyan because you were fearful of Hasmat Aga. In a matter of hours your granddaughter will be an Aslanbey. We were destined to be family. You still haven’t lived through the worst."

STILL NO STROKE! The old buffalo yells for Reyyan saying he curses the day he didn’t kill her with his own two hands. He roars that Reyyan stained their name and is now at the Aslanbey konak ready to marry that bastard Miran. Hazar doesn’t believe it. He keeps saying she wouldn’t do such a thing. He concludes that she must have been abducted. He drives off, peeling rubber, while Nasuh orders Riza to follow him.

Reyyan decides against wearing the wedding dress Miran had copied for her from the one Yaren ripped up. Azize comes up to her, making nice, and saying she’s giving her some necklace with the Aslanbey symbol. As she fastens the necklace, she leans in close so only Reyyan can hear: “Until it begins to choke you and becomes your perdition.” She moves away and says: “Welcome to the family.”

As Miran and Reyyan move toward the table set up for the ceremony, Gonul speaks to BG. “I did what you asked. I signed the divorce papers. Miran is getting married right in front of me, and I have no right to object. Now it’s your turn. You must tell me where my brother is.” [Viewerville gasps. At least novelera never saw this coming.]

Hazar arrives in Midyat just after Reyyan and Miran both say: Accepto. (the Spanish version of I do) Both Firat and Elif say something, both smiling, that is not dubbed, probably some traditional Turkish wish for the bride and groom. Then Hazar is heard shouting Reyyan’s name. He bursts through the door and tells her: “Don’t do it!” [Miran has signed the book, but not Reyyan. Not sure if it’s the signature or the verbal acceptance that counts.]

FABULOUS recap Novelera! And yes! STILL NO STROKE! Haha!! Nasuh looks like he’s going to implode at any moment, but unluckily for us, he doesn’t! All these folks must suffer from high blood pressure, lol! I’m truly tired of everyone blaming Reyyan for everything, and I wish she would tell everyone to eff off! I waited for Handan to interject some gratitude here for Reyyan’s sacrifice, but that was a dumb move on my part. Handan only cares about her son. How did Azat turn out so well with these parents and the sister from hell? I do believe that Miran and Reyyan could really be happy if they could get away from the vermin, and I’m certain that Reyyan would change Miran’s heart and outlook on things, given a real chance.

I look at Gonul and wonder to myself, “ like how many times does Miran have to tell you that he doesn’t love you before you get it!?!? I hope her light bulb moment comes sooner than later or she’ll end up like Azize’s baby sis, alone and tragic. I also hoped that Reyyan would give Azize a good retort when she spewed her venom in Reyyan’s ear. Something like “ Come tierra y muere vieja bruja!” Reyyan really needs to start fighting back and stop being folks whipping bag! Her silence and tears just seem to encourage people to treat her badly. Miran can’t protect her from EVERYTHING!

So there’s a brother for Gonul! Surprise, surprise! I’m gasping!

Thank you, novelera. Prompt, colorful, entertaining recap.

There was a cut scene of Reyyan saying goodbye to her mother, in a way that she didn't suspect it was a goodbye. She came to the kitchen hugged Zehra and said:
"Thank you, mother."
"For what?"
"I don't know, for everything. For being my mother. And for the pancakes."
"But this is not the first time I am making them for you." - another hug, and then Melike took Reyan as if for a walk, but really to go with Miran.

Thank you, novelera! A brilliant recap! Right off the bat, I had to stop to regain composure after “how about some poison oak or ivy on her lady parts?” There were many other gems throughout.

Highlight of the episode, Miran combs his hair (yes, just for me, novelera!) and Firat complements him! That must have been written in for viewers like me. Now if he would smile more….

I LOL’d at the black decorations. “It’s a wedding, not a funeral…”

“Reyyan and Miran both say: Accepto. (the Spanish version of I do)” The Turks usually answer, “evet” which is “yes”. I’ve also heard some say “ediyorum”, which means, “I do.” And as the official witnesses for the wedding, both Firat and Elif give their consent with a undubbed “evet”.

We did speculate that the divorce deal might have had something to do with Sultana’s missing son, but who could it be? Firat? Someone else we haven’t met yet?

I could agree with most of what you wrote, Carmella, especially, “Come tierra y muere vieja bruja!”

Thank you, Lucio, for the link to the song and the translation and the cut scene.

We really should have a slap spreadsheet. And an unsolved mysteries list. lol.

Novelera, I LOVED your recap! You always do an excellent job, but this one seemed especially inspired. Your snarky asides were delightful. I confess that I particularly liked your suggestion about what should happen as we wait for Yaren's mammoth anvil to strike. And your repeated "STILL NO STROKE" echoed my frustrations as well.

Another thing I especially like about this recap was how well written it is. What can I say? I was an English major in college, and I guess some of it stuck. I loved your choice of words, such as "BG drags his parents from the tomb once more" and "The self-pity party finally winds down."

I can't wait to find out more about Gonul's brother. Is it someone we already know?

Let's hear it for Hazar. Apparently he's been hiding his avocados, but it was clear last night that he's got an impressive pair. He not only stopped his father from hitting Reyyan, he also really chewed Nasuh out, correcting and defying him.

Of course, Hazar's newly evident courage may do in Reyyan's attempt to marry Miran, at least for the next umpteen-minus-one episodes. Like you, I wondered whether Reyyan had to have signed the contract for the marriage to be valid. My guess is that her not having signed it, and what I assume may be her reluctance to sign it now that her father has come, will probably prevent the marriage. (Of course, I have a pretty abysmal record for telenovela predictions, and perhaps what I've just written will add to that record!)

I can't wait for tonight's episode! Again, many thanks!

Thanks, all, for the kind words. Since I was MIA last week and there was a lot of dialog in Thursday's episode, I decided to put in as much as possible.

Thanks so much, Lucio, for the links to the song played during Reyyan, Gul, and Melike's scene playing with a hose. Looks like it was a longer scene in the Turkish version. And, in the extended scene we got to see Miran getting his hair off his forehead with his hands, perhaps with some "product" to keep it there.

It appears my sketchy memory did not extend to a not-so-crockpot theory that BG got Gonul under control by telling her about her brother. And it's kind of weird that Gonul just accepted that her poor mother has thought for decades that a child was born dead. And she didn't tell her mother the secret.

I was leaning more toward the secret being told to Gonul was that Miran is a Sadoglu, thus putting Reyyan and Miran into incest. Of course, BG also knows that Reyyan isn't a Sadoglu at all, but I doubt she'd trust Gonul with that one. There'd be too much temptation to spill the beans and blow the whole revenge thing out of the water.

Yes, Juanita, I'm leaning more now to the fact that the marriage isn't legal without Reyyan's signature. It was probably too good to be true.

I put in poison oak or ivy because here in California we have poison oak while where I grew up, in Ohio, it was poison ivy you needed to watch out for. Some of you are East Coasters and might have thought poison oak an odd reference.

Thanks, dondi, for explaining what Firat and Elif said. I thought it was odd that they decided not to dub that one word.

Carmella, ITA about wondering how Azat turned out to be such a sweet, sensitive guy having been raised by Handan and Cihan - alongside Yaren as well.

Herc #39 part 1

To Hazar’s horror, Reyyan signs the book. To Azize’s horror, (I think) she notices that Reyyan is wearing Miran’s mother’s ring. Hazar draws his gun and rushes Miran, he’s got him point blank. Firat draws his gun on Hazar.

Hazar shouts, how could you bring my daughter here? Miran orders Firat to lower his gun. Hazar still has his gun on Miran and says to Reyyan, come on, we’re leaving here. Don’t be afraid, no one can hurt you. Reyyan tells her father, no one threatened me. It’s what I want.

What are you saying, Hazar asks? Just two hours ago…. I refuse to believe you came willingly. He demands to know from Miran what he said to convince Reyyan. Reyyan speaks up again, nobody told me anything. I can’t lie to myself anymore. I can’t hide what’s in my heart— I love Miran. Miran with the good hair stifles a smile.

Hazar is incredulous, what are you talking about? You came on your own free will? Rey shakes her head yes. Why did you do it? Didn’t you think of you mother or Gul? Rey answers, it was a difficult decision to make but what we have is stronger. She repeats, I love Miran.

That’s impossible, Hazar says, this isn’t love. Love isn’t like that. Open your eyes! They lied to us once, we can’t let it happen again. I’m not leaving without you, Reyyan.
Azize’s turn. You can’t force your daughter, she’s married. And a married woman should be with her husband. Hazar directs his anger at BG, I’ve had enough of your lies! Azize goes to get the marriage certificate. Look, see for yourself. Hazar knocks it out of her hand. It’s not real, he growls.

Reyyan steps in front of her father and says it’s real, dad. This time it’s real. Hazar is heartbroken. He notices the Aslanbey necklace. Azize smirks. What have you done, Hazar asks? They left you on the street in your wedding dress. They humiliated us like nobody else. Miran looks a little guilty. What about all the tears your mother shed?

Reyyan responds, my love is capable of ignoring all of it. This is my home form now on. This is where I want to be. Miran smirks at hazar. So does Azize. Others look sympathetic. Hazar has no choice but to leave. He staggers out of the konak and his men follow him out. Rey’s words echo in his mind, nobody threatened me… I’m where I want to be …. this is my home from now on.

Miran tells his new bride, in time they will get used to it. Azize chimes in, if you want to be an Aslanbey, you’ll behave like one. if not… Reyyan cuts in with a shout.. if not, what? You’ll shove me in your car and leave me at Midyat Plaza?! She storms off and Miran wants to follow. Azize says let her go. She needs time to rid herself of the Sadoglu inside of her.

Reyyan closes herself in the bedroom and hears her father’s voice. They humiliated us… what about your mother’s tears?... She rips off the necklace and throws it on the floor. Miran enters and he picks it up. He tells Rey, give them some time. Everyone will get used to it. It’s complicated but it’s just a question of time. We will be happy together.

Rey asks, how much time? Three months? Five years? The wound I opened in my father’s heart will never heal. And my mother? I took her faith in me and buried it in this mansion when I said, “I do.” my father’s heart, my mother’s tears…. I’d give my life for them without thinking but instead I did this to them. Their wings and arms are broken. I sacrificed my family.

Miran asks, do you regret being my wife? She looks at him and answers, I regretted this the first time. Now, I’ll ask you, do you plan on leaving me again?

Miran moves towards her and reaches out. She takes a step back, so he decides to head for the door. I won’t use words, he replies, I’ll prove it by each of my actions. I’ll make you forget all the pain you felt in the past. I promise. You won’t regret marrying me this time.

Herc #39 part 2

He leaves the room and sits by the door. Reyyan sits on her side. Their hands touch the door then pull away at the same place at the same time [how’d they do that?] Miran softly says, nobody can take you away from me now.

Azat in exile: BF Caner is with him and brings a backgammon board. Poor guy thought it would be a welcome distraction, but Azat goes off. Don’t you realize what is happening? People will say I’m hiding, and you want to play games? Caner explains, all of Midyat knows you are not a coward. You are the only Sadoglu heir. Your grandfather needs you alive.

Azat says, I didn’t come here for my grandfather. I came because Reyyan asked. I came to make her happy. If not, you couldn’t have dragged me here.

Tension is high at the country house. Cihan is on the phone and Nasuh is pacing, wondering what’s going on with Hazar and Riza is not back either. Cihan starts in with that tired refrain, it’s all Reyyan’s fault. She will be our doom. She has no morals. She’s not a Sadoglu!

Child rearing expert Handan chimes in. A child must be brought up differently. Look at Yaren [I’d rather not] she always obeys [on what planet?] Nasuh orders Cihan to take some men. Don’t come back until you find Hazar. Handan complains to Nasuh, I’m trying to save my son and this girl (Reyyan) is going to destroy my husband, too. [fine with me] She walks off and Nasuh shouts at her. Yaren just smirks.

Zehra is worrying and watching by the gate for her daughter’s return. [Ha, they have a beware of dog sign on their gate] Hazar arrives, alone. His sad eyes meet Zehra’s. She runs to him, where is Reyyan? She runs to the gate and shouts for her daughter. She runs back to Hazar, where is she? Why didn’t you bring her back?

Everyone comes rushing out of the house. Hazar delivers the bad news. She chose not to come. They are already married. Yaren starts to cry. Hazar continues, she looked me in the eyes and told me she loves Miran….this is my house now.

Zehra collapses on the ground. You must have misunderstood, she sobs. My daughter wouldn’t have done this. Blah, blah… Hazar says she looked me in the eyes and said she wasn’t coming. Hazar is at a loss, I’ve taken on everything and everybody for her. Why would she do this? Wasn’t our love enough? Why did she prefer to make peace with that family?

Zehra continues to wail in denial. Yaren is devastated, she says to herself, it’s true… they’re married.

Nasuh starts in on Hazar. You fed and raised her like she was yours, but that girl is not your blood. Now, she’s ruined her own life. You defended that bastard, but she proved to us that she was never a Sadoglu! He orders Hazar not to go back for Reyyan again. Don’t go near her now or when she’s dead. She is our enemy now, he growls.

Nasuh issues an edict: from now on, no one mentions that girl’s name in this house! Neither the dogs nor the rocks will remember her scent! Whoever mentions her name will deal with my ire! [this would be a good time for the stroke…]

Show is over. Handan is satisfied. That girl finally left, she tells Cihan, let’s have tea.

Yaren goes to her room and vows to tear the newlyweds apart even if it means selling her soul to the devil. [I think she already did that in episode one]. I’ll mess with whomever I need to. She calls Azat but doesn’t notice Handan has entered the room. Brother, answer the phone!

Azat opens the call. Yaren turns to see her mother and Handan takes the phone. She quickly tells Azat, we called to hear your voice, son. You sound well. Everyone sends their regards. She hangs up, leaving Azat very puzzled.

Herc #39 part 3

novelera, get out your spreadsheet, here it comes… a beautifully executed backhand bofetada! A perfect 10! Nice addition of a hair grab. Do you think I’m stupid, Handan asks? You call Azat to have him go after Reyyan? Yaren sobs, you misunderstood, that wasn’t my intention. Don’t lie to me, Handan replies, I gave birth to you, and I know how your sick mind works! [lol] With that, Handan throws Yaren onto the bed and leaves with the phone and she might have locked Yaren in. Yaren cries, then the wheels start to turn...

Azat is still wondering what is going on. He tries to call back, but he only gets a message.

Meanwhile, Rey is sitting and sobbing over her beloved father. She’s looking at the family pics. Miran enters the room. She is startled and wipes her tears. She asks, is something wrong? No, he just wanted to see her.

Miran kneels beside her and takes her hands. I know this I hard. The way is cloudy and rocky. But you are my partner ["yol arkadaşım sensin”, a beautiful phrase-- road companion / life partner. The English translation can’t quite do it justice.] I’ll make your path look like the way to heaven. I promise to end all your suffering. I’d do anything to see a smile on those lips. He wipes a tear from her face. She can’t get over the look on her father’s face, what he said… the way in which he left. Miran says once again, he’ll get used to it. They will get used to it. They need time.

Azat calls Rey. She doesn’t answer. He calls back. Miran asks who’s calling; he grabs the phone. Rey asks him to stay calm. We are already married, I’m with you, and he (Azat) will have to get used to it just like everyone else. Miran’s bad temper breaks through and he manages to spill tea on Reyyan’s white dress.

He quickly apologizes and tells her he will take care of it. He leaves the room and tells Esma to ask Elif for clothes for Reyyan. Yes, but first she has to bring a tray to the kitchen. Not sure who it is, but someone calls for Esma. So Esma asks Sehriyar to ask Elif for clothes. Pobre chica has nothing to wear, Sehriyar snarks, she didn’t just give up her family, she gave up her wardrobe, too. Esma makes a face, raises her arms and walks away. Turkish Lupe makes fun of Esma behind her back.

Rey tries to clean the stain off her dress. Miran tells her Esma will take care of it. Rey says this is one of the few things she has from her house. Then let me clean it, Miran tells her. He makes another promise, you’ll have everything you ever dreamed of when we get our new house. He starts to clean her dress! She watches him and smiles. She says she will do it. Their hands touch and they share a moment. Then she gets up.

Miran tells her they don’t have to go to dinner. He just wants her to be comfortable and happy. He moves closer and brushes her face with his hand. He moves in for a kiss and…she backs off and there’s a knock at the door. It’s Sehriyar with a dress. Miran leaves so Rey can change.

Rey thinks back to a conversation with her dad about never getting married and leaving him. And it looks like Hazar is thinking of the same thing. Zehra comes to him and tells him Azat has called. Zehra is worried, what if he heard about Reyyan? What if he goes crazy again?

Hazar returns Azat’s call. Azat explains that Yaren called. His mom grabbed the phone and said she missed him, but she barely spoke to him and quickly hung up. Is everything alright, he asks? Because if you are hiding something…

No, Hazar lies, everything is fine. Don’t get scared, you know how your mom and sister are. Azat tells his uncle, you’re the only person I can trust, the only honest one in that house. Hazar looks sick. Azat asks, is Reyyan ok? I called her but she didn’t answer. Everything’s fine, why would I lie, Hazar replies. But the lies keep coming, nothing has happened since you left. Reyyan is fine, she’s outside playing with Gul. He tells Azat about the bicycle drawing. Zehra is crying.

Herc #9 part 4

Azat is happy to hear things are ok. He tells Hazar, Azize Aslanbey has turned our lives upside down. She will pay for all the harm she’s done. She will, Hazar replies, but all in due time. Don’t worry about that right now. We will take care of everything. The call ends. Caner asks. Apparently everything is ok, Azat tells him. Mom and dad hide things from me, but Uncle Hazar would never lie [never say never].

Hazar feels terrible that he lied to Azat but Zehra assures him he did the right thing. It was for Azat and Reyyan’s own good.

Later, Zehra thinks of Hazar’s words.. I asked her to come…she said she loved Miran… she said this was her house now. Zehra cries and calls her daughter. Rey holds her phone, how can I answer? I set off a bomb in your heart and ran. I don’t have the courage to hear your words. On her end, Zehra says, answer the phone… I can understand you’re in love, I just want to hear it from you.

They speak to each other without actually answering the phone. Reyyan says, I can’t say anything to you, mother. I’m the reason for your tears, anguish and pain. Please keep praying for me. Zehra cries and prays, Lord, please make my daughter happy. Let her have a good life. Bless her with good fortune. She raises her hands, You, who are all powerful, never abandon my beloved daughter.

Dinner at the Aslanbey konak. Reyyan comes out and we get a long look at the dress she’s wearing. Sultana says, this is too much. You want Gonul’s life, too? It’s the only thing you haven’t taken from her. Miran shoots a look at a guilty Esma. Sultana tells Rey, you’re wearing my daughter’s dress. You did it on purpose to hurt her.

Miran tries to shut Sultana down, and he goes to Reyyan’s side. Sultana continues, this is shameful Miran. It’s not about the dress. It’s about my daughter. Sultana tells Rey, she shared her home and gave you her husband. What more do you want from her? Will you throw her out on the street? Miran interjects, that’s enough, don’t make me say it again.

Sultana turns to Azize, aren’t you going to say anything? Isn’t your granddaughter more important than your grandson’s new wife? Gonul asks her mom to stop. She tells Rey, the dress looks lovely on you, keep it. Cut to Sehriyar making a face. Miran turns on Esma, I told you to ask Elif for clothes, not Gonul. This is unacceptable! Do you have an explanation?

Firat steps in and Miran goes back to the bedroom where Rey is changing. Don’t come in, she calls out, I’m not dressed. He turns his back and waits. She’s ready. He goes to her and wipes her tears. Don’t be sad, he says, it breaks my heart to see you cry. Rey explains she didn’t know it was Gonul’s dress. She wouldn’t have put it on. Miran takes her hand and asks her to come. Where? To our house, he replies, come on.

Miran announces to his family, you didn’t let me spend my last night at home in peace. Thank you for that. Enjoy your dinner and he leaves with Reyyan.

Azize tells Gonul, if you think your little tricks are what’s going to tear Reyyan from Miran’s heart, you couldn’t be more wrong. Elif speaks up, are you crazy, Gonul? Did you give Reyyan that dress to wear? Elif calls her pathetic.

Gonul leans in, I’m pathetic? Who do you think you are talking to? I’m your cousin, an Aslanbey, watch yourself. Elif shoots back, then act like an Aslanbey woman and not a child whose toy was taken. Gonul says, can’t you see I’m heartbroken? If I wanted to mess with her I wouldn’t use a dress. I’m Azize Aslanbey’s granddaughter.

If it wasn’t you, Elif asks, then why this reaction? Gonul gets up and shouts, it wasn’t me! Look around, where are we? I waited years for him, my husband, the man I love, and we are sitting down at his wedding dinner! Do you think this is easy?! Do you think this doesn’t hurt?! Azize looks like she’s enjoying the show. Gonul continues, that woman stole the man I love!

Herc #39 part 5

Elif gets up from her chair and shouts back, that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard! Reyyan stole nothing, you imagined it all. Stop acting as if you had a happy marriage before she showed up!

Sultana enters the argument. What makes you think you can speak to Gonul this way, she asks Elif and spits. She adds, you should be ashamed. I helped to raise you. She turns to Azize, thanks to you the only women not insulting Gonul are the streetwalkers. Sultana goes for her daughter’s hand, let’s go.

Gonul pulls away, no, mom! This is your fault grandmother. You threw me into an endless bonfire, you allowed everyone to walk all over me. But I will never forget why I’ve put up with all this. Elif apologizes to Gonul. Come with me, she says to her cousin, calm down.

Calm down? She pushes Elif away. How? I can’t, Gonul shrieks, nothing has gone right! Everything is a disaster. We see Sehriyar lurking. Gonul has lost control, I had nothing to do with the dress! I did nothing! She yells at Elif, how can you take the side of a snake who has been here for five minutes?!

Azize rises. Gonul gives a scream and runs back to the table and pulls the tablecloth and the contents of the table onto the floor! [nice touch!] I have no place at this table, she sobs, or in this family. Gonul storms off.

Sultana has some parting words for Azize, my daughter isn’t alone… She will always have her mother to help her. Sultana addresses Elif, if you ever talk like that to Gonul again, I will forget you are Sra. Azize’s favorite and make you pay! With that, Sultana walks away. Azize asks Elif to have the staff clean up.

Gonul sobs in her room. Sehriyar knocks and enters. Gonul’s face changes, come in. Well done, great work. She hands Sehriyar some money. You earned every cent. Sehriyar replies, even though we knew what we were doing, you were very believable. Sultana shows up at the door and listens in. Sehriyar complements Gonul, you are a very talented actress.

And we are out.

ps I don't have time right now to check the Turkish ep. Don't know if there were any critical edits.

It is nice to be back at home! Traveling is not much fun anymore. I really appreciated the terrific recaps for Wednesday and Thursday novelera! Very helpful to get caught up! So much going on! I loved reading everyone’s awesome comments. My biggest takeaway: Miran looks so much better with the newly coifed hair!

Now on to dondi356 and this super excellent recap of last nights episode. In a way, I am glad Reyyan married Miran. I think Hazar is weak and Zehra not much better. He should have taken his family away long ago. He attempts to defend Reyyan, but I think she is better off with Miran even if poor Reyyan is the fat to the fire. I was glad she stood up to BG a bit.

Their hands touch the door then pull away at the same place at the same time [how’d they do that?] I don’t know how they do that either, but I have really liked that split screen door view of each of them. This is the second time we have seen it.

I laughed at the snarky Yaren comments. Look at Yaren [I’d rather not] she always obeys [on what planet?] She is awful and I enjoyed the slap o rama from mama Handan! (Another for the spreadsheet novelera!).

“Turkish Lupe makes fun of Esma behind her back.” She really is the Turkish Lupe! I think it was Azize who call Esma away allowing Sehriyar confab with Gonul regarding that dress. I actually believed Gonul for a while and thought it was Sultana who had the Turkish Lupe take the dress to Reyyan.

I hope Miran can keep his promise(s) to Reyyan, but I don’t think BG has any intention of letting them live happily ever after in their new home.

Thank you dondi356, great recap and I loved the extra Turkish lesson!

Thanks very much, dondi356, for another wonderful recap, complete with terrific snark and even a bit of Turkish.

VVS has already called attention to several of my favorite bits of snark, plus the fact that this is the second time we've seen Miran and Reyyan sitting on the floor at opposite sides of the door. IIRC, the first time he actually fell asleep.

Yes, dondi, this would have been a perfect time for GT to finally have the stroke we've all been waiting/hoping/praying for. Then again, ANY time would be the perfect time, IMHO!

Over and over again, as I watched this episode, I kept wishing that Reyyan would tell her father what Ahmet said, and explain that that's why she's going to marry/has married Miran. That would have saved everyone a lot of anguish, though of course it would have probably cut out half or more of the remaining episodes. It might also make at least some of the folks in the novela wonder why they live in a society where the only two available solutions to many problems are marriage or bloodshed.

Thank you, dondi356. Excellent recap. Sidenotes are funny, sometimes educational.

I like Miran's idea to get his own house and live there with Reyyan. That sounds much better for Reyyan than to continue to live in that abusive and stifling house of the Sadoglus or the snake pit of the Aslanbeys.

The dress incident was like a middle school prank. I wish Reyyan didn't take it seriously and handled it with wit. She could have just ignored Sultana's words and said "Gonul doesn't mind it, thank you, Gonul" and continued with the dinner. She needs to get a thicker skin to survive in that place.

In fact, I think Reyyan should take tips from the prison movies, when a new inmate arrives, she needs to get others to have no desire to mess with her. Maybe do something crazy, like drag the tablecloth with the dinner to the ground, yelling like mad. Or throw the soup on Gonul.

Terrific recap, dondi. I loved all the sarcasm, especially about Yaren! Yep, that's the second backhand Yaren has received from Handan. Never tire of seeing Yaren get slapped. I also loved the "child rearing expert" Handan sentence!

Elif doesn't get enough lines in the novela. She is a very astute young woman. I loved when she reminded Gonul that she'd never had a happy marriage with Miran.

Hopefully Miran will continue to be Good Hair Miran going forward.

I hope they're not teasing us with Miran and Reyyan leaving Azize's konak. I don't think I could bear another string of episodes where Reyyan is treated like crap. I did enjoy her barking back at BG about whether she was going to throw her in the square in Midyat again. And ditto on tearing that necklace off her neck.

I'm hardly a Turkish dizi expert. This is only the third one I've watched. But I'm struck by there being no scenes that include religion. Especially in Mexican telenovelas you can't swing a dead cat (old Southern expression learned at my mother's knee) without seeing a huge cross, a carving of the madonna, and/or a kindly priest.

Don't get me wrong, I do understand that, in Islam, images are either completely prohibited or certainly few and far between.

I just am surprised to have never seen a character go to a mosque.

Great recap, as usual Dondi356! I’m totally with you on that “ beautifully executed backhand bofetada! Watching Yaren get a smack down is better than watching the WWF in my book! Aside from her constant scheming (like plenty of others in this drama) somewhere in her fantasy- psycho world, she really believes that she has a chance with Miran! Like, duhhh, he’s never even looked at you sideways kookarama! Between her and Gonul, we’ve most definitely have a lovely bunch of coconuts! I knew Gonul was acting! Her and Azize turn it on and off like nobody’s business, but the only difference here is that everybody knows that Gonul is a liar. The girl stabbed herself for goodness sakes! Like why isn’t she the one in a mental hospital!?!?!? And Azize knows it and told Gonul so. So tell me, how is all this gonna win Miran over???? I’m confused, truly stumped.....

I’m glad, too that Reyyan showed some backbone. I hope she keeps growing it and stops letting these people walk all over her! But thing is, Azize has realized that needs Reyyan, cause without her, her revenge would go nowhere. She’s already pretty much done her worse! She just underestimated her Sadoglu “ grandson’s” feelings, and continues to do so....

ITA that both Hazar and Zehra are weak— kinda useless. If I were Zehra, I would’ve slowly poisoned Nasuh a long, long time ago! First time he hit my daughter, he would’ve sealed his fate! A little ricin here, some wild mushrooms there, and he’d be a goner! Especially as much as Zehra is in that kitchen cooking! But that’s just me, lol.....

Thanks again for your amazing recap! 💯

Thank you, Novelera and Dondi356!! I rely so much on your recaps to clarify some of the scenes so I greatly aprreciate all the detail. Novelera, I was SO impressed with your Quickie on Wednesday! Concise, accurate and all encompassing of the important events. WOW!

Juanita, yes, I am still with you all. I don't comment very much because I watch the episodes long after the recaps are done and a new discussion has started on an episode that I haven't seen. I try to catch up on weekends, but often, farmwork, yardwork and all the other "works" get in the way.

I LOVE that the writers had Miran and Reyyan marry so early on in the series. The "wedding" was a disappointment, but given the circumstances, it was very understandable that Reyyan didn't even want to wear a wedding dress. I'm hoping that later on, a happier wedding with more celebration (and no black decorations) will be in store for these two love birds that I adore watching. And I'm sure there will be many hoops and valleys to cross, but I'm hoping that Miran and Reyyan will succeed and have a HEA...and PUH-LEASE, writers, no bombs for the galan at the end!!

Reyyan is getting a backbone and Miran doesn't back down...what a pair these two will make! I hope that together, they will expose and crush all of BG's secrets and little schemes.

Oh and more "beautifully executed back hand bofetadas" for Yaren would really make my days!

Thanks, everyone. Great comments!

I’m very happy that Reyyan and Miran are legally married. Maybe we can move away from some of that repetitive slut shaming of the innocent Reyyan and on to new territory.
Happy to see a glimpse of the Reyyan yet to come. I really enjoyed her comeback to Bad Grannie.

Juanita, I think whatever happens at Hasmet’s or Ahmet’s or whatever his name is, is supposed to stay there. We must obey the rules!

Whatever happened to that little old man who helped Reyyan and spoke with Hazar at the beginning?

Interesting thought about taking a tip from prison movies, Lucio. It would be nice to see Reyyan throw hot soup on Gonul, or Sultana. But I think she has a couple of Aslanbeys who are sympathetic towards her, and she might be able to better use that to her advantage.

novelera, I’m not a dizi expert either but I’ve seen my fair share, in Turkish and also dubbed into Spanish. Generally speaking, I find when they are dubbed, edited and broadcast on Spanish language TV, the shows lose a lot of cultural richness including any religious aspects. It’s another reason I prefer watching in Turkish. Even though Turkey is a secular country, it’s culturally Islamic (notice all those prayer beads?). It's like Mexico could be considered culturally Catholic.

I’ve seen enough scenes in and around mosques, at funerals or with clergy. In Embajador, we were introduced to Sancar Efe during Friday prayer in the mosque. And to my disappointment, they edited the service. Later, in one of the most powerful scenes in the series, Sancar went to the mosque in the middle of the night to pray and make a bargain with Allah to save his daughter’s life. Once again, I was disappointed when they cut him performing the ritual prayers and some of his plea to Allah.

Carmella, “A little ricin here, some wild mushrooms there, and he’d be a goner! Especially as much as Zehra is in that kitchen cooking! But that’s just me, lol.....” not just you, I like your idea!

Rgv Chick, I’ll bet that ReyMir have another wedding or some sort of big celebration before this ends. And I will second your plea for “no bombs for the galan at the end!!”

dondi356, thanks for your response to my comment. I know that Ahmet told Nasuh and Azize that they weren't to talk about what happened at the council, but since Ahmet told Reyyan what would happen if there is no marriage, either the rule of silence applies only to those present at the actual council meeting or Ahmet himself isn't abiding by the rule. And Azize, of course, didn't let the rule stop her from telling Esma (and telling her in a way that what she said could be overheard). Also, I'm not sure Ahmet told Reyyan that she couldn't tell anyone. It's possible he did--I don't remember.

Herc

Hi Juanita, I don’t claim to have the definitive answer for the Ahmed/Reyyan meeting. I was going on a bit of assumption with a pinch of snark.

I think you summed it up very nicely here: “they live in a society where the only two available solutions to many problems are marriage or bloodshed.” So it’s an open secret! And this: “it would have probably cut out half or more of the remaining episodes”

Clearly Reyyan is playing the martyr and Azize just follows her own rules.
