Telemundo - Turkish novelas

This post is mostly for dondi. I did speak last night in Zoom Spanish class about Turkish novelas. I already have a classmate interested in Fatmagül. But she went on YouTube and only found it in Turkish. I remember your posting something about how to get English subtitles for the Turkish dizis. And it would be even better if she could get Fatmagül dubbed into Spanish on YouTube.

I found Fatmagül on YouTube a while ago, but didn't try to watch the first episode because two novelas a night, hercai and café are my limit.

But I'd like to help Peggy see the dizi in whatever language is comprehensible to her. Spanish or English would work.

Hercai - #57 – Parte 1 de 3

We begin with the scene of Firat having followed Esma to her meeting with Hazar. Firat: “What in blazes were you doing with Hazar Sadoglu?” Esma looks scared. She tells him she’s known Hazar Sadoglu for many years. “He called me asking for help to watch over Reyyan and, if something bad happens, to call him right away.” Firat, angrily: “How long have you known him? I found you with our enemy. Tell me everything from the beginning!” [I’m starting to be sick and tired of these men yelling at the women in their lives.]

Esma tells him that that is everything. She goes on to say that she met him so he wouldn’t come to the mansion and make things worse. At this he brandishes his gun, ready to go after Hazar. Esma tells him that Hazar knew about Azize’s trap. Firat: “What trap? “ Esma says that she created a trick so that Miran would think Reyyan and Azat ran away together. Esma didn’t put the ticket in Reyyan’s purse as Azize asked. She told Miran, who said he would handle it. Firat: “Why didn’t I know about this? You’re hiding things just like they are!”

We return to the scene on the outskirts of the Country House. Cihan and Handan tell Azat that they’d like him to marry Elif Azlanbey. Elif is the favorite grandchild of Azize. Cihan says he can’t say that Azat will love her in the end. But Azat is risking prison. Marrying Elif would protect Reyyan and your aunt and uncle. “If Elif lives with us, the Aslanbey wouldn’t be able to harm any of us. Listen. There’s no way back from death; but, it’s possible to get a divorce. Just think it over.”

Nasuh is raving to Yusuf. “We got our house back, but then this mocoso (snotnose boy) comes here and hits us again. My children attack each other. All this is happening because I didn’t kill Miran.” Yusuf: “You are thinking about covering up one disaster with a worse one." [I’d like to take Yusuf out and ply him with some tequila and get some answers!] Yusuf: “Ayse wanted you to be happy, Nasuh. The lands aren’t at fault. You are.”

Yusuf continues: “Hazar was in the military, and you didn’t let him know. If you had told him that the Aslanbey estaban tratando de llevarse a Dilsuh (were trying to take Dilsuh) none of this would be happening now. [I put in the Spanish because I’m not certain what Yusuf meant. It sounded to me like he might have meant take her away by force, but I’m not certain if that is the exact definition of llevarse in this sentence.] Nasuh: “The past keeps pursuing us, Yusuf and doesn’t leave us in peace.”

Sultana is on the patio at the Aslanbey konak with the usual smirk on her face. She tells Gonul that it doesn’t matter where Azize is. If she says away, they’ll get the mansion. Then she goes on to say that the mansion belongs to Firat de Deiralp. “But we’ll fix this; we won’t let things stay in the hands of a servant.” Gonul tells her to stop blaming Firat. After all he was the one who told them that Reyyan and Miran were in Urfa. Sultana replies that they need to accomplish two things: separate Miran and Firat and get the properties out of the hands of Firat.

Miran returns and Sultana snarks something at him. He doesn’t want to hear it, nor does Viewerville.

Hercai - #57 – Parte 2 de 3

HAG is back at the empty, ruined building staring at the picture on the wall, when Hanife enters. Azize: “What took you so long?” Hanife: “I had to answer a lot of questions about where I was going.” The HAG tells her sister that she’s returning to Kars. [I hear the Hallelujah Chorus in the background.] Hanife: “Have you given up?” HAG: “Until I make that decision, nothing is over. Pay attention!” [But we don’t see what orders she gives her sister.]

When Miran returns Sultana tries to get some information out of him, but he ignores her and goes up the stairs.

Reyyan has found out from Melike about the scene with Miran screaming at Hazar at the country house. She confronts him. “Why are you trying to destroy our marriage. Why did you accuse my father of murdering your parents in front of the whole family? You knew how much this would hurt me!” Miran, aka Mr. Hyde, tells her that he only spoke the truth. [There are two Mirans: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.}

Reyyan: “This is the truth you have from the woman who tried to set a trap so I’d appear as if I were Azat’s lover! This truth! How can you be so cruel?” She tells him that his seeing the truth is not impossible. Their love was impossible and now they are together. Mr. Hyde tells her that he doesn’t want her to ever see her father again. Reyyan: “No way! I’ll see my father as often as I want and you can’t say anything!” [Yay! Loving Reyyan’s newly developed spine.] He petulantly throws the picture of himself as a child with HAG on the floor and it shatters. Reyyan cuts her foot on it and Dr. Jekyll takes the glass from her foot.

We see Esma in her room remembering her conversation with Hazar when he asked her how she could not feel pity for the child (Miran) she held in her regazo (lap). She gets an old purse out of her chest of drawers. There are some photos that I think are of young Esma with Firat and Miran as boys. She asks God for a way out.

Then Esma takes out an envelope with two letters from Dilsah to Hazar. Dilsah writes saying that she’s living in hell and is afraid that Hazar won’t ever know her secret. “Miran es tu hijo, Hazar. “ If anything happens to me, I commend our son to God and later to you. In the second letter Dilsah says: “Hazar, I read your letter again and again. May God bless you. I don’t know who to turn to to get away from this prison with my son. I will be waiting to meet you in our place this Friday at dawn.”

Firat returns and Miran confronts him. “Where’s Azize?” Firat: “Lately I don’t know what happens here. You don’t share anything with me. You hide things. Reyyan is our only problem.” Miran: Don’t you dare try to blame Reyyan for what goes on around here!” The Aslanbey roaches hear the quarrel and run into the courtyard. Firat tells Miran that he’s destroying the Aslanbey family because he loves Reyyan. Miran starts to go for Firat, but Gonul intervenes.

Gonul reminds Miran that the three of them played together, both here in Midyat and later in Kars. As children they ate from the same plate. Miran tells Firat that he has called him his brother. But didn’t he know what his grandmother was doing to Reyyan? Firat tells him that if he’s so sure of this, it doesn’t make any sense for him to answer the question.

Hercai - #57 – Parte 3 de 3

Back in their room…Sultana…yada, yada at Gonul. Firat is a servant…yada, yada.

Miran continues to rant at the top of his lungs. Reyyan tells him that he destroys those around him. “You refuse to hear my father; and when you have to face the consequences of this, you’ll have to pay.

Hazar gets a call from the ever-useful Ali. He’s found that guy they were chasing from the place where they thought Reyyan had been taken after the kidnapping. I’m going to rush through the next part. The guy is tied up and Hazar finally convinces him that he can send the guy and his family far away and to safety. The guy says that he was told to dismantle the car by a man he later saw with…Azize Aslanbey.

HAG comes home looking sad. She asks Esma how Miran found out about her “plan”. Esma denies saying anything. HAG says she would believe what Esma says. Then she asks about the time she found Esma in the kitchen at night. “Where were you coming from?” Esma: “From my room.” [Azize doesn’t say anything but she now is beginning not to trust Esma. They don’t show it again, but she saw mud on Esma’s shoes in the kitchen.]

Sultana keeps poking the bear, telling the HAG that she has killed the grandmother that Miran had in his heart.

Miran and Reyyan are in their bedroom, not speaking. Then she tells him that he always has asked her not to run away from him. Don’t do the same to her. Then there is a shout.

Hazar is shouting from the courtyard. Lots of guns are pulled. Hazar tells Miran that the Sadoglu had nothing to do with those attacks, neither the one against his car nor the one at his house. He has brought that guy Ali found. Azize looks nervous. Miran tells Hazar that this guy does not look like the one that was being chased. [There’s a flashback and he’s right. It’s a different guy. Novelera is confused.] The guy Hazar brought runs to Azize, begging for her help, saying he was forced here. Hazar looks stunned.

Miran tells Reyyan to look how her father threatened this guy. We see that there is a note in HAG’s hands that the guy has presumably put there when he was “begging for her help”. [Be careful with the rastro (trail or scent) you leave behind you.]

Miran tells Hazar that if he shows up again he’ll finish him.

Hazar and Ali talk outside. Ali says it’s a trap. Hazar suggests it could have been Azize who arranged shooting up the car, and then seems to discount this. He asks Ali to go back and find out about this guy, why he said one thing and then later had a different story.

Miran comes to Reyyan and tells her he understands loving one’s parents, but this guy… She says that she was wrong, but not about her father. Her father would never threaten someone with harming their children. But your grandmother would. And you still aren’t able to accept that she’s lied.

Another lovely scared HAG scene. She’s in her room reviewing the two notes that appear to be from the same person. “I don’t understand what you are up to? If you want me to pay like it says in this note, why did you save me? “ [I presume she means from the witness Hazar brought there.] “Who is he? Is it a man?”

Thanks very much, novelera, for this helpful and delightful recap. I appreciated your including "estaban tratando de llevarse a Dilsuh," since I wasn't sure what was said. It sort of sounded like "llevarse," but I wasn't sure that made sense. I realize that I was thinking of "llevar" as meaning "to bring," forgetting that "llevarse" can mean "to carry off," "take away." Now I think it may make sense: they were essentially trying (and succeeding) to kidnap Dilsah, to carry her off to somewhere she didn't want to be.

Sultana seems to inspire your word choices. I love "Sultana snarks something" at Miran, and also "Sultana keeps poking the bear." I also loved your Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde descriptions of Miran.

Thanks, too, for mentioning that HAG had seen mud on Esma's shoes. I had forgotten that.

I too am puzzled by the fact that the flashback of the guy Miran was chasing shows someone rather different from the guy Ali found and Hazar presented as evidence. It's clear that the note surreptitiously given to HAG last night was written by the same person as the first note, so the guy Ali found must have been involved. Perhaps someone else has an explanation. Perhaps we'll learn more tonight--or get still more confused to carry us through the weekend.

Thank you, novelera.

Translation of Azat Cihan conversation: We really want to pay back Azize. Elif is her favorite grandchild and if you marry her, it will hurt her a lot. And once done, you can always dump her. Oh, yeah and blah, blah Reyyan, aunt and uncle. Blah, blah, protect, insurance.

Agree with your Sultana remarks. "He doesn’t want to hear it, nor does Viewerville."
"There are two Mirans: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."

I think it was a mistake for Reyyan to bring up her father's truth on this day. She should have stayed with Miran in the cabin and consolidated the gains over HAG. But she wanted to use the opportunity that Miran was vulnerable and convince him that her father is innocent. That was pushing it.

The mysterious enemy has scores to settle with Azize. And is as adept as Azize in scheming. No wonder she is trembling. The kidnapping of Reyyan required stakeout of the house. It also involved setting up red herrings. This false witness also required careful set up. Unfortunately for Hazar, it destroyed his credibility and that of the theory that HAG was behind the attack on Miran.

Thanks for your recap novelera, and no truer words were ever spoken, “NEITHER DOES VIEWERVILLE!”. Sultana is like a persistent gnat who didn’t know how lucky he was until he buzzed by that person’s ear for the very last time. Like Azize said, “ enjoy it Sultana” before your impending fall——- or something along those lines. She’s a snob to boot, and is going to lose Gonul through her own shrewish behavior. I understand where Gonul was coming from, defending Firat, but he doesn’t deserve it. He’s a disloyal snitch who doesn’t even try to cover for Miran when Azize beckons......

This Miran annoys me to no end! He tells Hazar he’d better not show up at his house, yet he show’s up at Hazar’s without a thought! Like who does he really think he is? I know Reyyan loves him, and I like the romantic moments they share, but this Miran is a loudmouth boar who can go straight to Hades with arrogant demands! Take another dip in that river Miran—— straight off that bridge!

The third party in this game of revenge has me wondering big time! But whoever puts the fear of heaven in Azize’s eyes is ok in my book!

Telemundo - Turkish novelas

Dondi, never mind about Peggy needing help to get the dubbed-in-Spanish Fatmagül. This Spanish class of mine is chock full of exceedingly bright people. We have a google group and Peggy's cry for help in finding only the Turkish version was quickly answered by Lolita sending her a link. Lolita is from Taiwan and, of course, has a name in Chinese. But she uses Lolita for our class.

OT – Turkish Dizi

Glad that your presentation went well and that a classmate has an interest in viewing.

It’s often hard to find free and reliable dizi sources online. Production companies that hold the rights are always on the lookout for unauthorized sites that post episodes. They even go after fans who create videos using clips from the shows.

Nice that Lolita could help. I hope Peggy enjoys the show and that you will have time to watch someday.

Great recap, novelera. Thanks so much.

Azat took the marriage “proposal” better than I thought he would.

“The HAG tells her sister that she’s returning to Kars. [I hear the Hallelujah Chorus in the background.]” Only thing is Sultana will be insufferable with Azize gone. I don’t quite understand why Azize would want to leave her family at this moment. But it’s nice to see the HAG sweat.

“estaban tratando de llevarse a Dilsuh” Yusuf said the exact same thing in Turkish, the Aslanbeys “were trying to take Dilsah”.

I agree with Lucio that Reyyan might be pressing a little too much, too soon.

And I agree with Carmella about “loudmouth” Miran: “take another dip in that river Miran—— straight off that bridge!”

About the guy Ali found, Miran said, “take this man to a safe place where Hazar Sadoglu can’t find him”. Is Miran playing a game here, too?

Hoping we get more answers than questions tonight.

Hercai #58 part 1

Azize is still looking at the notes when there is a knock at her door. It’s Mahmud. He asks, you called for me? HAG tells him to come in. She says, that man that Hazar brought…find him, find out who hired him and why he is protecting me. Mahmud asks, what about Sr. Miran? Azize dismisses that question and dismisses Mahmud. Go!

Reyyan and Miran talk. She tells him, it’s easier to blame my father. It’s the least painful option. But my father is not like your grandmother. Miran responds, you saw everything, you heard everything. She asks, what did I hear? Do you expect me to believe a man I’ve never seen before? You weren’t even able to accept my father’s version of events. She adds, you’re afraid, and do you know why? You’re afraid of the past. You’re afraid of learning your vengeance has been for nothing. Miran’s got no answer for that except to say her name.

Reyyan tells him that he will regret everything he has done. You think you will have nothing if you don’t have your revenge, she says. You think you won’t be able to look me in the eyes. [He’s already having a hard time doing that.] You think I’ll leave you, but I won’t… because I love you with all my heart. Please understand that this is my truth.

The past could be different, less painful, Reyyan says. Just think of that possibility. You’ll lose nothing if you do. It doesn’t matter if you were wrong or if you believe something different. It doesn’t matter if it will be hard to accept. I’ll love you again, she tells him, and I’ll love you forever. We might be wrong. My father might be wrong. Anyone could be wrong, and it still won’t matter. She puts her hands on his face and says, my heart belongs to you. She gives him a hug.

In their bedroom later that night, Reyyan is asleep in the chair and Miran is awake, sitting on the floor at the foot of the bed. He hears a noise outside and gets up to look. It’s Azize walking by. He leaves the room to see where she is headed and sees get in her car and leave.

As they drive, Azize barks at Mahmud, what do you mean that house is empty? He couldn’t have disappeared overnight. He must be somewhere. Mahmud replies, [in Turkish] we’re looking for him, but we don’t understand why he emptied the house or disappeared. Mahmud gets a call from one of the guards. Miran had asked where they went and now he is following them. Azize asks Mahmud to take a detour.

Esma is looking at Dilsah’s letters. She folds one and puts it back in the drawer. She holds the other one in her hand and picks up her phone.

Disconsolate Hazar is out in the yard with Zehra, who is trying to comfort and reassure him. Please don’t feel this way, she says, I didn’t believe anything Miran said. I know you. I know the goodness you have in your heart and so do your daughters.

Thank you and bless you, Zehra, he replies, but I wish that were enough. I need to figure out this mess once and for all. I should have ended this horrible lie years ago when it first started. [¡exactamente!] Zehra warns him not to do anything that will put him in danger again. You promised, she reminds him.

Hazar gets a call and Zehra wonders who would call at this time of night. Hazar tells her it’s one of the workers, but we know it’s Esma. He gets up and walks a few steps away to take the call, but Zehra follows. Esma says let’s meet at the same place. [in Turkish] It’s time to give you what was entrusted to me. Ok, see you, he replies.

We see that Azize’s detour took her straight to the cemetery [where she’s about to drop a load of fertilizer over the graves of Mehmet and Dilsah.] For eavesdropping Miran’s benefit she starts, my dear Mehmet… I’ve sinned so much. Terrible things weigh on my conscience [we ask, what conscience?] I’ve lied so much to keep Miran beside me. I’ve slandered others.

Herc #58 part 2

For the first time in my life, the HAG lies, I’ve strayed from the right path. But I had no other options, my son. The situation was getting out of hand. I thought there was no place for me in Miran’s heart. He has changed. He’s forgotten the promise that he made to you and me. I didn’t know what else to do.

The crocodile tears flow freely, and she wails… oh, my beloved son Mehmet… Dilsah….

Hazar killed you and you had to be buried without knowing your son. We see Azize look from the corner of her eye over in Miran’s direction. She continues to speak to Dilsah, you used to call me mother so sweetly that I would forget you weren’t really my daughter.

Oh, my beloved daughter in law. I should have never involved your poor son. Miran is so upset with me, and he is right. No number of apologies would be enough. I wanted him to stop loving that girl. I never allowed his orphan heart to love anyone. I couldn’t allow it because Miran and I had to avenge your death so you could rest in peace. I failed you, Azize sobs. Miran has heard enough and leaves.

Hazar is at the appointed meeting place. He gets a call from Ali. Did you find anything, he asks? No, Ali answers, the house is empty. How is that, Hazar asks, has anyone seen them? Ali replies, everyone said that house has been empty for a while. No one has lived there for years. Hazar asks him to keep investigating. We need to find where Miran sent that man and make him talk. Hazar has to end the call because Esma has arrived.

Hazar asks Esma, why did you call me here? What do you have to give me? She takes out the letter and says, Dilsah wrote his letter for you a long time ago. But that night, when it all happened, we had to leave suddenly. It happened so quickly, I never had the chance to give you this. I hid it, she sobs, but I knew I’d have to give it to you someday. She hands it over.

Hazar opens the letter and reads. [From the few words I can make out, it’s the second letter, not the one where Dilsah says Miran is his son.] He sobs. Esma cries, too. She tells him, show this to Miran and you’ll be able to save your daughter. This is proof of your innocence.

Esma leaves and Hazar collapses to the floor in a flood of tears. He laments, the hands that wrote this letter have long been buried. I was never able to hold your hand and save you from that hell, he tells Dilsah, I’m so sorry. Once again you extend your hand, and you save my life and everyone’s.

Miran enters the bedroom and Reyyan wakes. Where were you, she asks, where did you go? He gives her an abrupt reply, your father is fine, but if it worries you, I wasn’t with him. She answers, I worry about you as much as I worry about my father.

Miran looks at himself in the mirror and hears HAG’s words, “Miran and I had to avenge your death so you could rest in peace…” Reyyan asks him if he is ok. Did something bad happen? He looks Rey right in the eyes and tells her, I can’t make you a promise I won’t keep. I want you to know that I won’t forget the promises I made myself. My revenge….

Reyyan interrupts him, “yeter” – enough. Forget your revenge. What you did to me at the beginning… wasn’t that your revenge? Don’t you think we’ve suffered enough? All the promises, the words, everything I’ve felt, and despite that, I haven’t spent a single day without loving you. Her tears fall and she continues, but from what I can see, despite those promises you made, not one day hasn’t gone by where you haven’t thought about your revenge. And that’s how it will always be. He walks out without a word.

Miran leaves the mansion and asks the guard for his car. He changes his mind and says he will go to the stable for his horse instead.

dondi356

Herc #58 part 3

Reyyan dresses for the day and picks up her phone. She says, no Miran… no resentments this time. She calls but finds Miran has left his phone in the room. She goes out looking for him. The guard at the gate tells her Miran went to the stables, so she heads there and asks the worker to get a horse ready for her.

We see Miran and Reyyan in separate shots, riding.

HAG has arrived at the konak in Kars. We hear her inner voice, I‘ve come back again, but I won’t’ stay. Not yet. I lived here in agony for years and it is here where I will celebrate my victory. It will come late but I will get it. Then I will return one last time… to die.

Sehriyar and Esma serve breakfast to Sultana, Gonul and Elif. Sultana complains about no one being there, including Sra. Azize. Sehriyar says she will go find her. Esma stops her, Sra. Azize isn’t here, she left. She went to Kars. Elif bolts from the table to go find Miran. Esma stops her and says, they went out on their horses.

Sultana is ticked. They went horseback riding? The world is burning, and they are out riding? Gonul tries calling HAG. No answer. Sultana tells her, are you crazy? Let her stay away, let her go. Elif tries a call and gets no answer. Sultana tells Esma to bring the breakfast into the living room and tells Gonul to get ready, they will go to the market. Sultana wants everyone in town to see them. They might think all the Aslanbeys have left with Azize. We don’t want to give them a reason to gossip, she says. Gonul tries calling Miran and they hear the phone ringing in his bedroom. Where are you, Miran?

Reyyan spots Miran and calls out to him. They come from opposite sides and meet at the middle of the bridge, circling their horses around each other. They dismount and face each other. I thought you left, she tells him. He answers, I have no place to be except wherever you are. Try as I might, I can’t do it. I’m trapped. I can’t stay away from you because when you turn your back on me, everything goes to gray… the way it was before I met you. I feel an emptiness in the middle of my chest… he puts his hand over his heart.

He continues, if I leave you, will those beautiful, wet eyes dry? We get a close up of those eyes that show Miran’s reflection…. He asks, will your tears disappear? Will your wounds heal? Will you smile more? I don’t know… tell me Reyyan… what do I do? She whispers through her tears… Miran…

He takes that as an answer and starts to walk away. She reaches out, grabs his wrist and pulls him back into a kiss on the lips that turns into more kissing. She took his breath away. We hear their Spanish theme, but this is what really played:

Song: Tutuklu/Prisoner – Sezen Aksu

Cut to ReyMir riding their horses through the field. Then they walk with the horses and hold hands. She thinks, if you had forgotten your revenge, we wouldn’t be so desperate now. He’s thinking, if I’d never met you, I wouldn’t be this crazy in love. She turns and tells him, don’t ever do this to me again. Do what, he asks? What you just did, she replies. And he tells her, I didn’t do anything, you kissed me. Slight smiles from both.

Reyyan says, don’t pretend you don’t understand. A kiss won’t change what is going on. Wherever we go, pain will follow. It will be there at every corner. But please don’t run from me, she asks him. We can fight and talk but don’t leave me alone. Miran replies, I’ll never leave you if that’s what you want. I don’t want to fight. I want to be happy with you.

dondi356

Herc #58 part 4

Reyyan is not satisfied and says, in our relationship, I’m the one who’s always giving in. What about you, she asks? Instead of apologizing, you insist on continuing your revenge. Instead of telling me you love me, you say you have nowhere else to go. Instead of fixing things, you despair and make everything worse. I promised to be with you and follow wherever you go. That’s what I promised on that first day, I’ll always love you. I know what I want. What do you want, she asks? He answers, I want to be with you the rest of my life. They continue their walk, hand in hand.

Hazar calls Miran, he’s unavailable. He tries Reyyan, no answer. He calls Esma and she tells him they took their horses and left. Hazar is worried… Azize… Esma says not to worry, Sra. Azize left. She went back to Kars. This doesn’t calm Hazar, he worries what Azize might be up to now. He tells Esma it is important he sees Miran and Reyyan when they get back. Esma says she will let him know when they return.

It’s evening and ReyMir are still out. They sit under a big tree. Rey says, my father and I would sit under this tree in the spring. Miran says, I don’t have any memories like that, then adds, I didn’t say that to make you feel bad. It’s just that I don’t remember much. I barely remember my father and my mom only a little bit more.

Reyyan asks Miran about his mother, her hair, her face, her scent. He thinks back, when I was a boy and I wanted to remember her face, I’d close my eyes and force myself to remember, but I couldn’t. Then one day I found a picture. She was with my father. They were obviously newlyweds, and she was pregnant with me. What stood out, he tells Reyyan, were her eyes. They were sad, as if she was suffering. When I saw that picture, I started remembering. My mother smelled of lilies and the earth wet from the rain. It was a sweet and nice smell. It relaxed me. That’s what I remember about her. He’s teary.

Miran… you must overcome this and find your own happiness, Reyyan tells him. I know you’re in pain… and that you feel incomplete. But it’s time we built something together and mended your wounds.

Firat returns to the konak and Gonul makes a beeline to him. Firat, why didn’t you tell me grandmother went to Kars? Uh, oh… Gonul can tell by the look on his face, that he didn’t know. He says he’s not surprised about that. No one thinks it’s necessary to tell me anything these days, he tells her. Gonul assures him that he is a part of this family and don’t forget it.

Firat replies, you’re the only one who thinks that. You just feel sorry for me, but don’t. I know my place, he says, I realized I never was, nor will I be an Aslanbey. [in TN/dizi land, this means he is an Aslanbey] I’m merely an employee of the house, as Sr. Miran reminded me yesterday. [Yeah, an employee who has power of attorney over everything] He walks away from Gonul. She softly says, you’re wrong. Perhaps you are the real pillar of this family.

ReyMir return to the konak and Gonul runs over and starts in. Where have you been?! You left your phone. You don’t know what’s been going on. Grandmother went to Kars! What?! Gonul informs him, she packed her bags and left. He runs up the stairs and bursts into HAG’s room. Yep, she’s packed and gone. He hears her voice, my dear grandson, I left without saying goodbye. I had no courage, I was ashamed.

Herc #58 part 5

Grandmother, how could you leave us, Miran says as hurries off. Reyyan asks him, where are you going? I’m going after my grandmother, he replies and continues walking. She stops him. Aren’t you going to say anything? What am I supposed to say, Reyyan?

She tries to reason with him. Look at you, your grandmother is winning again. You’re falling for her games and doing what she wants. You believe her and drown in silence. Once again, you forget what you’ve learned and go back to crazy ways. You’re letting her get to you again. For once, don’t let her manipulate you. Don’t be afraid of being without her. You are a man, Miran! [I wonder if this guy is a real man and worth the amount of work she needs to put in.]

Miran answers, what am I supposed to do? I feel helpless. My grandmother packed her bags and left. Reyyan stops him again. Enough, she says, after everything she’s done. She says she’s afraid of losing you. She’s lying. She does these things because she knows you will follow. She’s been getting you to do what she wants with her stories since you were a child. She’s taught you to fear whenever it was convenient for her. The hope she feeds you is carefully planned.

Reyyan starts begging, Miran… she beats you with the fear she’s instilled in you and with the false memories she’s used to fill your emotional void. It’s a game, it’s all a game. Please don’t go [please listen to your wife, Miran] He’s wavering…

Miran counters, last night… I followed my grandmother and I saw her crying inconsolably over my parents’ graves. I heard her say she regrets everything she has ever done, and I swear she was sincere. It doesn’t matter what she’s done. (!) That woman raised me. In spite of the pain and manipulation, everything she has done was to keep the family together.

Look around, Miran tells Rey, do you see anyone here who is whole? We are all orphans, we have no parents. We are incomplete but we are together and under the same roof. This might not be the type of home you know, but this mansion has been a refuge that saved us from solitude and torment. And it all has been possible thanks to my grandmother’s love. [if Miran thinks HAG is a role model for a grandmother’s love…]

Reyyan raises her voice, how can I get you to understand?! It’s about keeping our hearts together, not under the same roof. I’m not telling you this to upset you, but it’s clear that it’s impossible for you to see any other way. Maybe you’re right! Maybe I’m wrong and this is impossible! Go! Go, then! Get out of my sight! Run! She storms off, leaving Miran in his usual confusion.

And we are out.

MANY thanks, dondi356, for this superb recap! You've covered everything, and even added some key statements from the Turkish version. And your asides were right on target.

I'm pressed for time this morning, so I'll jump to the part of your recap I most appreciated: your statement about which of Dilsah's letters Esma gave Hazar. I wondered about that, but I couldn't figure it out. I'm so glad you were able to recognize part of the letter she gave him and see that it was not the one in which Dilsah tells Hazar that he is Miran's father. It seems to me that nothing else in last night's episode was as important as that piece of information. I'm somewhat disappointed that Hazar will still not know, but at least for the moment, we avoid the problem of Reyyan and Miran thinking that they are brother and sister. (I suspect that that "problem" will eventually surface.)

Other than that, what impressed me most about last night's episode was how clear-headed and articulate Reyyan was in her discussions with Miran. She becomes more impressive with each episode.

Again, many many thanks!

Thank you Juanita for the recap on Tuesday and novelera for the Thursday recap. Both were excellent! I was glad there wasn’t an episode on Wednesday, it made it easier to catch up. My take-aways from the recaps are more questions, especially about the new enemy who has Azize very worried and the obvious fact that Miran is easily swayed by the years of Azize brainwashing. I think it is going to take more than Reyyan’s love to help his tortured soul.

Now on to episode #58. What a great recap dondi356! I appreciate the extra Turkish translations and the music! Azize continues to play Miran like a fiddle! What a load of crap she dumped in that cemetery and he ate it all up. Her crocodile tears are disgusting.

I wasn’t sure what letter Esma decided to give Hazar, but was glad it didn’t immediately reveal Miran is his son. I am not sure how Hazar is going to convince Miran, but let’s hope it is a start.

Reyyan has every right to be ticked off at Miran, but she is determined, I will give her credit. I love the “horseplay” that hopefully leads to something more substantial in the near future, but with the way the episode ended, I think that is not in the cards for a long time.

Why is everyone so upset that Azize left? Miran’s explanation to Reyyan was sad and pathetic. [please listen to your wife, Miran] Yes! Please do. She summed it up while they were sitting under the tree: “I know you’re in pain… and that you feel incomplete. But it’s time we built something together and mended your wounds.”

I agree with you dondi356: [I wonder if this guy is a real man and worth the amount of work she needs to put in.] Reyyan is doing all the heavy lifting in this relationship.

I have one sort of silly observation, but doesn’t Miran have a bathroom in his bedroom? He always runs out with his clothes and heads downstairs to change. In fact, it doesn’t appear like any of the bedrooms in the Aslanbey konak have a bathroom. The Sadoglu konak does, you can see the extra door. Maybe that is why Azize wanted that konak so badly. 😊

Anyway, it is nice to be home, even on a solemn day like today. I am grateful to all of you on the Patio for giving me a place to rest from the realities of the world.

Appreciate the recap dondi356! Let’s see what Monday brings for ReyMir.

Hercai

Dondi, thank you for the detailed recap.

I will comment more later , but I just watched this episode , and I must say ...wow...I know why Turkish tns are so popular . Those scenes of Miran ( in his perpetual jacket and slacks ) and Rey ( in her dress) riding those beautiful horses through the magnificent scenery ....Where else could you see that fairytale on a screen these days when most US shows are about horror or reality. I get enough reality every day ..in Real life . I want the fantasy. I loved seeing Rey's horse grabbing a little snackie of hay along the way as she and Miran were walking and leading the horses.

Does Miran on!y own suits and sports jackets ? No jeans or tee shirts or a pair of shorts ? Some sneakers ? Maybe that would ruin the mystical fantasy ...also...no bathrooms in magical fantasies .

Azize's fashion choice today ...black and blue . Fitting . She's making a lot of people feel beaten up .

I miss Gul.

OT...Dondi ..I am on episode 50 of KPA. So many mysteries have already been revealed that I am amazed that I am only about a third of the way through to the finale. It is very different from Imperios , but a few things are the same . This Show is better in every way . Loving this show and learning a little Turkish and more about Turkish customs and living conditions . Marhaba, shickrun, and inshallah are the same in Arabic .

Once again a simply wonderful and complete recap, dondi! Your asides were as if you were reading my mind. Is Miran worth the effort? Actually, in that scene at the end where Reyyan appears to be giving up hope, I was wishing she'd just leave him. I've not been pleased at these "doormat" scenes where she says over and over that, no matter what, she'll always love him. I'd prefer: If you harm my father in any way, I'm gone.

I managed to keep from throwing my birkenstocks at the screen when Azize did that fake scene at the grave, especially the part about her great relationship with Dilsuh. She's always one step ahead of everything. I'm waiting for the other birkenstock to drop about what she told Hanife and that we didn't hear.

VVS, love your comment about no bathrooms at the Aslanbey konak. But you must realize by now that people never have to relieve themselves in telenovelas. There have been scenes where protagonists have been tied up for more than a day and we don't see any puddles on the floor!

Yes, Susanlynn, those scenes on horseback were fantastic. I haven't ridden a horse for many years. I used to ride often as my erstwhile novio's family owned a couple.

It never crossed my mind that the letter Esma gave Hazar was about his being Miran's bio dad. It would be too soon for that revelation. And, Juanita, I agree. It would not surprise me a bit for incest to raise its ugly head at some point. OTOH at the rate they're going we may have to wait until the last episode to see these two "do the deed", but I suppose even unconsummated sister and brother stuff would be horrific in this culture.

Excellent recap. Thank you, dondi356.

I was very impressed with the horse riding / bridge scene, the way it was filmed.

Reyyan enters the barn, asks for a horse, and pets a black goat. Horse riding in slow motion: Miran on a white horse and Reyyan on a black horse - as usual. Different angles - front, from far above, from the side of the road - stationary camera, from the side of the road - camera moving along the road with the rider, from above the road from a drone. Beautiful countryside scenery with the dramatic "Swing to the sky" melody playing - a lot of percussion, guitar, which is the real theme music of this series.

On the bridge. Reymir love-theme music is playing (the original, violin, piano.) Reyyan and Miran enter the bridge at the same time. The shot from the side far above, camera moving closer. We can see both riders moving towards each other, the river and the horizon in the background. They meet at the top of the bridge and circle each other. Shot of the two horses and riders from above. Miran mentions "Those two eyes" and we see a close-up of Reyyans eyes with Miran reflecting in them (thank you dondi, for pointing it out.) The beautiful original song starts playing "Prisoner," Reyyan grabs Miran's hand and gives him a kiss. We see the first moment of the kiss from three different angles, slow motion. "Nobody before you, Nobody after you" - the singer is singing. They continue kissing as the camera is circling around them. We see the horses, fields, river, hills, and the town behind the couple as the camera keeps circling. Reyyan and Miran stand holding each other, looking into each other's eyes. "I am the prisoner of your love" - sings the singer. Close-ups of their eyes, lips. The bridge scene ends with the drone with the camera flying over the bridge and along the river, leaving the bridge with the lovers behind.

The song continues uninterrupted (as opposed to Telemundo showing the commercial break here.) We see the couple riding horses through a field. The song: "I traveled seven worlds, but nothing is enough." Reyan and Miran look at each other smiling. Now they are walking with their horses along the road. The camera is flying over them like a bird. The couple stops to talk. Taking advantage of a short break, the black horse grabs a bite of hay, but Reyyan leads the horse away, making it finish the snack on the go (Susanlynn, that was amusing.) Miran and Reyyan clasp their hands and keep walking. The camera is flying away as we see them getting smaller in the distance.

Thanks, everyone.

I was desperately trying to read Dilsah’s letter. I rewound and paused a couple of times before I was able to make out a few snippets. Even before that, I assumed Esma wouldn’t reveal that info now.

Reyyan is getting better and stronger with each episode. With Miran, it’s one step forward and two steps back. He’s pathetic. She kissed him but it didn’t break the HAG’s spell yet. Maybe they need to hop into bed for that. And probably when they do, that’s when the “incest reveal” will happen.

I think “HAG” is too good for Azize, but the actress is fabulous.

LOL, the bathrooms, VVS. “Maybe that is why Azize wanted that konak so badly.” I don’t have a bathroom in my bedroom, but I don’t have to go outside to get to one either. I’ve seen this konak in other dizi and I can’t remember if there were any rooms with en suite baths.

novelera, I think about tied up people, too. I was very surprised in Embajador, when they actually showed a guy who peed himself after being tied up for a while.
Lucio, thanks for providing the detail of the horseback/bridge scenes. Tutuklu is a great song. I have it on my Turkish dizi playlist.

Susanlynn, the suits and jackets are the uniform of the day for all the “important” men in that area. I’ve noticed that in other dizis.

OT – KPA
They really made a mess out of the story with Imperio. It would have been better if they stayed closer to the original. But they didn’t have Engin and Tuba, either.

Episode 50. Opening scene. My heart broke for Omer. Damn you Sami and stupid Elif.

dondi356

OT....dondi, thank you so much for recommending both Fatmagul and KPA Loved the Fatmagul themes of true love , forgiveness, and rising from trauma , and I prefer Engin with the long hair .Whenever I start watching KPA ,I end up watching several episodes . I am g!ad that I still have many episodes to enjoy. I think there are 164. I have no idea how they will draw the storylines out that long after so many villains have been revealed already. Yes, Sami disappointed me , but Omer is persistent . The way they pronounce that name is so unusual to my ear ...like the "c " in Sancar sounding like a "j." Does " r" sound like "sh" in English. I have taught English to people from all over the world , and they all struggle with our "th" sound . It is a ubique sound. I like to hear Omer say " Ahhh-la-la." The actor playing Azat in Hercai plays such a funny, lovsble, loyal character in KPA. The actor playing the villainous uncle is amazing...his subtle facial expressions and body language ... superb .

Hercai

I thought Miran and Rey had consummated the marriage the first night in the cabin .I wasnt watching in the beginning because I didn't realize that my cable carried Telemundo.

Herc

Susanlynn, you’re right about ReyMir consummating the marriage on the wedding night. That is enough for the ick factor. But I think once they start sleeping together again, that’s when the incest issue will come out. I should have explained myself better.

dondi356

OT - Susanlynn

There are 164 Netflix eps for KPA. It did get a bit repetitive at the end, but not enough to make me stop watching. If they ever show this on Uni or Telemundo, I’ll even watch it again and join the recap crew. It is one of my all-time faves.

I agree, the actor playing Tayyar is amazing. Arda is a lovable bff. The supporting cast is great. Crazy Asli and Melike are a hoot.

In Turkish, the pronunciation of “r” depends on where it comes in the word. At the end of a word, it can have a faint “sh” sound, and can vary with the speaker. Letter “c” is like our “j”, like we heard in Sancar. There’s an umlaut in Ömer which changes that vowel sound.

Do you mean when Omer says, “Allah, Allah”, which always sounds like “Allahalla” when they say it so fast. The translation is obvious.

Yes, the “th” sound. I had many relatives who couldn’t pronounce that sound.

BTW, the actor who plays Azat got married this weekend. Engin is a good friend of his and served as a witness. There were several actors from KPA there and Firat from Hercai, too. There were many pics and videos posted. Looked like everyone had a great time.

Great recap dondi356! I just got to the episode after a busy weekend at work! How could I love and hate an episode all in one shot?!? Reyyan and Miran are so made for each other! Loved how she goes after him, speaks her mind, shows compassion and affection almost without hesitation now. But Miran is her’s and his own roadblock at this point. He’s not fulfilling his end of the bargain, and can’t see the forest for the trees. Azize is really good at what she does though, I have to hand it to her.......

Looking forward to Miran’s next step, which is probably 4 steps backward and stuck in the mud......

Thanks again!
