Hercai: Amor y Venganza - Episode #78
Part 1 of 5

Stupid Zehra thinks, what if the letter isn’t real? Suddenly, Azize’s shouts are heard from inside the Sadoglu konak. Cihan and Azat tell Nasuh to stay put, they will take care of it.

Outside, Azize is pull angrily at poor Elif, demanding to know why she would risk herself? Do want to kill me? (all in favor…say Aye!) Why did you do something so stupid. Firat is trying to keep HAG from abusing Elif more. Elif snaps back, that she came to confess that she pushed Hazar down the stairs. HAG doesn’t believe her either saying, You are just taking the blame to get ReyMir back together! You are lying! Do you know what they will do to you now that you said that? Do you?

The HAG rant is interrupted by Cihan who says, what will we do? We aren’t like you Azize. Azat asks Elif if she is okay and this infuriates Azize more as she demands to know what Azat wants with Elif. (To fall in love and pull her out of your demonic hands and live happily every after?). Firat locks Elif in the car while Azize and Cihan hurl insults. We know the drill. Azize says that Elif had nothing to do with Hazar falling down the stairs, she was only trying to protect her primo Miran. She threatens to burn down the Sadoglu’s if any of them try to take revenge against Elif for Hazar’s lies. Azat and Cihan (and the Patio) all look bored, as Firat has to physically restrain Azize.

Azize hurls more threats as she turns to leave. This time Cihan is not having it and follows. Firat pulls his pistol (we knew that was coming) but Cihan grabs it and aims at Azize. He tells her that he is not like his father or his brother. His threats are not empty and if she hurts any member of his family, she will pay. Looking meaningfully at Elif locked in the car, he says, you will pay. Nasuh and Tio Yusuf arrive on the scene as Cihan starts to return the pistol back to Firat, but not before wiping the gun down to ensure his finger prints are wiped off and don’t give Azize another attempt to defame the family.

Nasuh tells Azize to leave, he considers this situation closed, for now, while Cihan brags that he has told her everything she needs to hear. More insults from Azize and as she rants, Yusuf looks at her very directly, seemingly recognizing her. (This is very reminiscent of the showdown at the CH is an earlier episode). Azize catches his gaze and looks away quickly. When she opens the car door, Elif jumps out and tells Nasuh that she did, unintentionally, push Hazar. Azize struggles to push her back in the car and in the struggle, Azize loses her head scarf, lion pin and prayer beads. Yusuf picks up the beads and sees the letter “A” engraved on the largest bead. (Ayse?) Azize looks scared as she snatches the bead out of his hands, Firat picks up the pin and the Aslanbey caravan drive off. Elif still screaming in the car.

Azat says it is a pity what they are doing to Elif and walks off. Nasuh and Yusuf follow but Cihan stays back seeing that Azize has left her head scarf in the middle of the road. He picks it up vowing to keep it and throw it in her face after Elif becomes a Sadoglu.

Cut to the alleyways of Midyat where Miran is walking angrily, remembering Reyyan’s words to him minutes before. Reyyan is still following him asking him to stop and listen. He finally does stop but tells her that what she said earlier, you said with not only words, but with your eyes as well. There is nothing left to say. Reyyan says she is sorry and wants to show/tell him how terrible she feels.

Hercai: Amor y Venganza - Episode #78
Part 2 of 5

Miran says, isn’t it sad when you cannot explain yourself and when you do, it doesn’t matter to that person? Like you have said before Reyyan, crying isn’t enough. Now go home and don’t follow me. Miran walks off, leaving Reyyan in the middle of the street eating a big piece of humble pie and wondering, what did I do? What will I do? (Go give your “dad” a good piece of your mind for starters).

Yaren enters an empty kitchen, grabs an apple and plops herself down on the bench saying, there is never any peace in this home. Melike and Hanife come in and are surprised to see Yaren sitting there. There is some clever banter between Hanife and Yaren, Hanife getting the best of Yaren, until Yaren says that all her misdeeds are second fiddle to the big lie that Hazar told Reyyan. She hopes Reyyan suffers even more. This does not sit well with Melike and an argument ensues only to be interrupted by Handan who sort of defends Yaren against the “help.”

At the Aslanbey konak, HAG manhandles Elif into the courtyard and pushes her to the ground, still yelling about how stupid it was for her to go confess to the enemy. Elif argues back and tells HAG that she is nothing but a vengeful old witch and cruel to boot. HAG has a Miran like meltdown and continues to verbally abuse Elif with her venganza, they will kill you, rape you, they killed our family and never asked for forgiveness story. Gonul and Sultana sort of come to Elif’s rescue, pulling her up from the patio floor. Elif continues to fight back and finally Gonul jumps in agreeing with her cousin that HAG has ignored them, intimidated them and used fear tactics to get her way. Enough, says Gonul, enough! That kicks HAG into high gear, she says that it is not enough, they will live their lives the way she demands they do, all of them. She puts the roof over their head and food on the table.

Azize turns her wrath onto Esma, demanding to know if she has changed her mind about the venganza? Didn’t they agree to take this road together years ago? Is Esma backing out now? (Wow, is Esma that involved in the venganza?). Firat tries to step in to shield his mom, but just brings Azize’s fury on to him. Gonul again tells HAG to back off, so HAG grabs her by the arm. This causes Sultana to step in and face Azize saying, I am terribly afraid of you, but I won’t allow you to hurt or touch my child! You can crush me or lock me up, but you will not harm my child!

Elif gets a second wind and starts yelling back at HAG saying, how much more do we have to pay for your revenge? I don’t want to live like this anymore. I don’t want to go to bed afraid that someone will hurt my primo or that he will hurt some else because of your venganza! If you hadn’t put this hate in me, I wouldn’t have pushed Hazar Sadoglu, I would have just thought he was here visiting his daughter, not assume that he was here to kill Miran. You did this to me, to us. You plucked us from our home in Kars, told us the Sadoglu were the enemy. I don’t want to live the life you want anymore. (There is more, but I am tired of the yelling).

Azize ends the argument by telling Elif that she and Gonul will head abroad. Elif will go back to school. Esma and Sultana will go with them. Firat speaks up and says, my mother will not go. We have always done what you ask, but not this time. My mother will stay. HAG says that the family and their safety is most important, Firat agrees saying, that is why they should stay here, so we can be together.

Hercai: Amor y Venganza - Episode #78
Part 3 of 5

Azize gives another speech about it is her way or the highway, Firat has no say, even if she trusts him and considers him like a grandchild. Calling for one of the guards, HAG tells him to lock Elif up in her room. Elif says, don’t bother. I can take myself; I can’t stand to be around you anymore because I cannot breathe. Elif heads to her room, HAG heads upstairs and the rest of the cockroaches scatter back to their hiding places, leaving Firat and Esma in the courtyard alone.

Gonul and Sultana conspire in a bedroom. Sultana says that when things go wrong for Azize, she always acts out and doesn’t care about anyone around her, all she wants is her revenge. Gonul says she is not going anywhere. She could see her grandmother was scared about what Elif did but she is not budging. She decides it is best to tell Miran what is going on and threaten that without Gonul, Elif and Sultana there, HAG will focus on hurting Reyyan to get her revenge. Gonul leaves the room and Sultana thinks, you need to get Elif married as soon as possible to Azat.

Reyyan is still trying to keep up with Miran to get him to listen to her. She claims that it shouldn’t be so hard to forgive after one mistake. He stops. Just one mistake Reyyan? I was the one who started this impossible love already defeated with the single mistake I made. Every day, I have suffered from the realization of the enormity of that sin. As much as I have tried, I wanted to make up for this mistake, but I haven’t been successful. If you said jump, I would say where and how high without a second thought. I have put myself in the line of fire with the guns pointed at you, I jumped off a bridge to save you. I even gave you my own gun to shoot me, just to give you that relief to punish me for what I did. You shot me. For days now, I have looked into your eyes and told you I didn’t push your father. I have quieted my mind and the turmoil of my feelings to be with you.

I fought to help keep your father alive. What did you do? You just blamed me. You even accused me of stealing the lost letter Reyyan. Do you know how it feels to be accused of stealing from the person you love? Well, I do and it hurts a lot. You shared my pain with me when I sat in my mother’s room. You dried my tears and curled up next to me as I slept on my mother’s bed. You are the wall I lean on for strength. You even offered to leave the past alone when you saw how much it hurt me. Yet you were quick to believe that I was playing dirty tricks behind your back.

Every time I looked at you, I said to myself, Miran, don’t give up, there is hope. Don’t give up on your love. Look, I understand your anger, your insecurity, but what you said in the courtyard, I can’t understand. I am exhausted Reyyan. I am like the glass of water that is full and then someone adds one drop and it overflows. That is me. Today, you showed me how you can kill someone without firing a single bullet. Even the real bullet you shot me with, didn’t hurt as much as your words today. Now we are even. Se acabo, (we are done). Miran walks away, leaving Reyyan to ponder his comments and the reality of the situation.

Back at the Sadoglu konak, the family is talking about the “visit” from Azize. Cihan is trying to act like a tough guy saying he won’t let he get away with her slanderous threats. Hazar thinks that Elif is innocent and that he is the one to blame since he also lied about it being Miran who pushed him. Even Nasuh tells Cihan to cool his jets because Azize was blustering and just worried about Elif. Cihan can’t believe that Hazar sent Reyyan after Miran.

Hercai: Amor y Venganza - Episode #78
Part 4 of 5

Suddenly Nasuh says, what if Azize hurts Reyyan for revenge? Stunned looks go all around. What are you looking at? he barks, Reyyan is a Sadoglu after all. This goes over like a lead balloon for several members, mainly Yaren. Hazar says he couldn’t continue with the lie. Elif is a young girl with courage. I couldn’t keep lying.

Azat walks away, pulling out his phone. We see Elif back in her bedroom still worked up about what HAG told her and vowing to live her own life. Her phone rings, it is Azat. Are you okay Elif? Did your grandmother hurt you? She was very angry, says Elif, but I am okay, except HAG wants to send me abroad. She will punish anyone who gets in her way. Azat says, I saw a very different Azize today. But I am sure she was just scared. She thinks that we are like her and would hurt you. Elif, you know that my family would never hurt you right?

I know, she responds. I thought if I told the truth, everything would be better, but I have made it worse. Now I will be taken away from my family, from…you…there is a long, awkward pause. Azat fills in, saying, Elif, if you don’t want to go, I will do anything to help you. I will even talk to Miran if you like, although I don’t know if that will work. Would you do that for me? Will you even help me get Miran and Reyyan back together? She asks. This line of thought clearly makes Azat uncomfortable, so he quickly tells her to not worry and they can talk again. Everything will be okay. Elif pulls out the wedding ring Azat tossed away. She holds it and says, yes everything will be okay Azat, you and I will fix it.

Reyyan gets back to the Sadoglu konak, she looks miserable. Everyone is still hanging outside, so they see the look on her face. Azat stops her saying, your father did it to protect you. Don’t let anything get before your father. She doesn’t respond and heads up the staircase. She is met at the top of the stairs by GT, saying, Reyyan, your father lied to protect you. Cihan says, he feels terrible about what happened, but it was for your own good. Zehra comes over and says, what happened Reyyan? With everyone listening, she responds, my father pushed Miran. My father pushed Miran and I pushed away my love. My father pushed Miran and I pushed myself too; I pushed whatever was left over a cliff. All this with just one word from my father.

Zehra tries to make excuses as Hazar looks completely distraught. Reyyan says, I told Miran and myself that my father would never lie. He would always love and protect me. But my father lied to me, he didn’t take care of me. No, Reyyan, says Zehra, your father thought of your life. But he didn’t think of my heart, responds Reyyan. GT says, Reyyan…she responds, but I believed him. How could I not? But I also have my hopes, love and dreams. Now that is gone. Miran is gone. But I am alive, I am miserable, but alive. Is this a life worth living? Reyyan heads upstairs, Zehra asks her to stay and talk but she doesn’t turn back around.

Hazar says that he doesn’t blame Reyyan for not wanting to look or talk to him. She is right. He never should have lied to keep her away from Miran. GT says that she will get passed it. Things will be okay. Hazar asks Cihan to take him to his room.

In her bedroom, Reyyan remembers all the different, hurtful conversations she had with Miran since the stairs incident. Out loud, she begs him not to leave her. Without knocking, Yaren comes in carrying a tray with tea that she supposedly made herself to help calm Reyyan. (Collective, detached retina eyerolls from the Patio ensue).

Hercai: Amor y Venganza - Episode #78
Part 5 of 5

Reyyan tells her to leave as she does not have the strength to deal with her stupidity. Yaren tells Reyyan, as much as I wanted to break you up with Miran, you did it yourself with a few words. Now your Prince Charming is gone and never going to return. Why do you hate me? Yaren, why are you so unhappy? says Reyyan, you are so unhappy you have no idea how to make other people around you happy. This seems to strike a nerve with Yaren. What you have done has made everyone around you miserable. Your parents are devastated, grandfather cannot even look you in the eye, why are you harassing me instead of fixing what you started? Yaren starts back in on Reyyan but is overheard by GT as he passed the open door. He comes into the room asking, haven’t you figured this out yet? Haven’t you learned your lesson? Yaren puts on her “I am innocent” face and stumbles over her response as the episode ends.

Hi all. Please ignore my multitude of errors in this recap, I wasn’t very motivated to proofread very thoroughly, as the episode was rather a letdown and more of the same after the last couple blockbusters. Or maybe I am just bummed that we only have two more weeks left and tons to learn that I don’t have patience to listen to the same old thing continually repeated. Does anyone really believe Miran? I don’t think it is over. Reyyan will figure out how to win him back.

herc

VVS, they say you can't make a silk purse out of a cow's ear, but you have succeeded splendidly in doing so! Yes, the episode was definitely disappointing, more of the same, but you've presented it clearly and even delightfully, with lots of snarky asides, such as "Do you want to kill me? (all in favor…say Aye!)" and "(Collective, detached retina eyerolls from the Patio ensue)."

I hadn't realized that Azize was also sending Sultana off with Elif, Gonul, and Esma, but of course, you're right. I took another look, and when Sultana again protested about Azize's plans for Gonul, Azize says something like "Fine, then you can go with her." I wonder what Azize thinks she can accomplish if she banishes almost all her remaining family and allies. And if she somehow succeeds in sending off Esma, I suspect Firat would find a way to go with her. And Miran may be disappointed in Reyyan, but by now he's also aware of what a horror his supposed abuela is. He's unlikely to help her carry out her venganza, esp. if Elif, Firat, and Esma are no longer there. All Azize would have left is her band of so-called guards.

Clearly, none of the above is likely to happen. And it's very likely that ReyMir will get back together. Exactly how isn't yet clear, at least not to me. But I agree with you, "Reyyan will figure out how to win him back." And, of course, Dilsah's letters may finally play a role. The one Zehra has, in which Dilsah says that Miran is Hazar's son, must certainly come to light. I doubt it will happen in tonight's episode, but I can hope.

Again, thanks so much for the excellent recap. I wish the actual episode had been nearly as good.

Herc

Great recap, VVS. With your asides, it was more entertaining than the ep. I agree, it was a bit of a letdown after last week’s ending eps. And don’t ever worry about typos.

“(all in favor…say Aye!)” ---Aye!

“…what Azat wants with Elif. (To fall in love and pull her out of your demonic hands and live happily every after?)” Don’t know about Azat, but this is what I want.

I lol’d when Cihan pulled the gun back and wiped his prints off.

Yusuf was placing another piece in the puzzle when he saw Azize without her scarf and he picked up her beads. Those beads are very important to her. I wish he would tell us his crockpot theory.

I don’t get Miran. Not sure if I want to get him. So Rey didn’t believe him, boo frickin’ hoo. What he did to her was so much worse. If we follow the formula, we will have to put up with this on/off again crap for a while. And since this is a Turkish dizi, I will worry. They better have an HEA or I will hate this show.

Firat has got to be a real Aslanbey. We have 3 brothers who could be his father and 3 women who could be his mother.

I’m sure that Elif, Gonul, Sultana and Esma will stay in Midyat. At least for now. “(Wow, is Esma that involved in the venganza?)” Maybe she was at the beginning. But her conscience is bothering her now and she’s worried about Firat’s safety.

This is priceless: “(Collective, detached retina eyerolls from the Patio ensue)” I always have a visceral response when Yaren appears on screen. Nasuh has certainly done a 180 on Reyyan. Glad he overheard. Grandpa, please get rid of that snake Yaren, asap!
Thanks again, VVS!

Thank you so much Juanita and dondi356, you both, plus novelera, have always made me feel so welcomed to the recapping team, starting with Loli and now Hercai. I appreciate your support and these great comments.

Juanita, I agree that Dilsah’s letters are so important to this story and turning the tides against Azize. The silk purse out of a cow’s ear made me laugh. I needed that today.

dondi356, I also think that Azat is not ever going to love Elif, but she sure loves him. I hope they manage to end up together. Yusuf and Esma are key secret keepers to GT and Azize. I wonder if Azize is Ayse? We speculated on that after seeing those burn scars on Azize’s back.

Firat definitely has to be an Aslanbey. Three abusive son’s and maybe an abusive husband married to Azize? Another crockpot theory to add to our many theories. I think he might be Hanife’s son from one of those Aslanbey men.

I hope Yaren gets a slap o rama from Nasuh tonight!

BTW, I should be able to do a recap for Wednesday, unless someone else would like to cover.

herc

Once again, VVS, you came up with a stunner! These Turks can definitely show the Mexicans a thing or two about keeping star-crossed lovers apart aka delayed gratification. Thanks so much for all the detailed conversations. Those conversations were SO interminably repetitive.

And, dondi, amen on not being sure we want to get behind Miran. He was over the top pushy with Reyyan, wearing the Patio out with his constant insistence on how much he loves Reyyan. And then...she believes the man who has been there for her her whole life, and he's all se acabó?

Azize was completely unhinged last night, squabbling with Elif in the street, while her "enemies" looked on.

VVS, I loved "detached retina eyeroll". And the writers are reading our minds. Nasuh keeps finding out over and over what a snake he has sheltered in his bosom. Come on...they keep teasing us with marrying her off and then seem to forget the whole thing. From what I heard from a conversation with Cihan, Nasuh and IIRC Handan, they weren't going to be that fussy about a bridegroom. Come on, warty, smelly guy!

I thought what Cihan said upon picking up Azize's scarf was he was hoping to see it teñido (dyed) black because she'd be in mourning. It was a bit over the top because I thought he was referring to Azat marrying Elif. Although, I suppose for HAG that would be an occasion of mourning.

Elif got her mojo back. She certainly le dijo cuatro verdades (told her a thing or two). And I loved Firat telling HAG his mother was not leaving. But then he backed right down.

Hercai

VVS...I am late to the party, but I thank you for an excellent ,detailed recap of all the bubble, bubble, toil and trouble. I especially appreciate it because I wasn't able to watch last night.

herc

novelera and Susanlynn, I appreciate you taking the time to comment on the recap. Glad you could stay caught up, Susanlynn.

novelera, I enjoy your extra Spanish lesson and correct accents! I don’t even know how to do that on my keyboard, lol. As you know, I review the Turkish episode as well as Telemundo and the part that had Cihan picking up the scarf was translated very differently in Turkish to English as opposed to the Turkish to Spanish translation that you provided, “hoping to see it teñido (dyed) black.” I am not sure his comments were that relevant, but I do appreciate you pointing out what he said in Spanish.

I think Miran just doesn’t know how to handle his emotions at all so it is all black or white to him, there is no gray. He has a lot to learn for sure.

Herc

Thx for the recap...and if needed...I can take another stab at Wed's epi.

Dido to all who think Miran has a lot of nerve...not forgiving Reyan...given the planned...horrible treatment he gave her upon entering in her life..on false pretenses. Sure he loves her but he is lucky she got over what he did to her and continues to love him. As usual...the dirt done by the male in these TNs is suppose to easily be forgiven while the guys drag the women thru the wringer for the slightest misstep. Anyway, he should not drag out his forgiveness.

Besides, ReyMir need to get on with the business of outing Azzie for all her lies and uncover the truth of the past. It's a mystery they need to solve together.

Now that Elif has gotten the guilt out of her...she's getting her spunk back. I was not feeling the wimpy weepy girl she had collapsed into. She seems to be feeling Azat more than he is feeling her but she is at least on his radar as a possibility...even if it ease just to ease family tensions. He's been mooning over Reyan too long to fall so quick for Elif.

Every moment the weaklings Hazar and Zehra ponder what to do or to handle something...is so annoying. Hazar's logic to save at least one parent for Reyan to go to...was a good idea but Zehra is so undeserving. Wonder if he'd feel the same way once he finds out Zehra has the 2nd letter and hasn't handed it over. Without a comparison...or a DNA test...would Hazar be the best person to recognize Dilsah's handwriting. This is wasting time.

Thanks for the comments Nett. I think we all agree that Miran needs to get mad and get over it. We need to go back to Dilsah’s village an learn more.

Hazar and Zehra are weaklings! Perfect description.

Not sure how Azat and Elif are going to connect, but it should be interesting.

I will cover this Wednesday’s recap but if you can cover next Wednesday, October 20th, that would be much appreciated.

Hercai: #79 - p 1 of 3

As the episode opens, we see Cihan and Zehra wheeling Hazar back to his bedroom. He asks Zehra to give him a moment to speak to Cihan in private. After she leaves, Hazar asks Cihan to do him a favor. He needs him to take him somewhere later that night. He doesn't say where.

Nasuh is still ranting at Yaren. With Cihan and Handan watching, Nasuh threatenes Yaren: "If you say anything to hurt Reyyan, I swear I'll strangle you with my own hands! I've finally opened my eyes, and I hate what I see. You've disgraced the family name. I wish you had never been born! You're to blame for all the pain we suffer. You have to get married at once and leave this house. From now on, you're no longer a Sadoglu!" He then turns to Cihan and tells him that he has three days to find someone (i.e., a bridegroom) you're comfortable with. If you don't, on the 4th day Yaren will no longer be sleeping in this house. I'll send her to the countryside. She may not be able to clean her conscience, but at least she can clean up the animals' droppings."

Cihan then drags Yaren to her room. He tells her she is forbidden to leave the room. His patience has been exhausted. It's over. He leaves and locks the door from the outside. As soon as he is gone, Yaren breaks into a grin and then starts laughing. She goes to the picture behind which she hid Dilsah's first letter. She asks herself, "How should we use this letter? Whose lives should we ruin?"

The scene shifts to the Aslanbey mansion. Hazar has apparently gotten Cihan to take him there to talk with Miran. Hazar tells Miran, "I'm here for my daughter." Miran tells him there's no point in apologizing. "You're the last person I'd forgive, Hazar Sadoglu." Hazar tells him, "I know what it is to be in love. When you don't have the woman you love by your side, you feel unmoored. But the love for a child is different, it is something that can only be known by someone with children. Reyyan believed in me because I'm her father. I made her choose love for her family over love for you. All this is my fault. The two of you have found love and have put down roots. You've nourished your love. My intention was not to destroy your love but to protect Reyyan from your abuela. Don't abandon my daughter." Miran replies, "I haven't abandoned her, Hazar Sadoglu. You did. Only you." We hear Hazar sobbing.

Miran returns to his room. Their love song plays. He remembers Hazar tell him, "Don't leave her alone. If you do, she won't be able to blossom" (florecer). Miran takes out his phone and looks at a photo of Reyyan. We see Miran and Reyyan simultaneously doing and thinking the same things, from their separate locations and separate beds. The camera puts their faces together. Each imagines the other is with them. Reyyan asks, "When did you get here?" Miran answers, "I never left." Reyyan tells him, "I don't want things to end between us. I want us to be together forever. Only death can separate us." "You're already dead to me, Reyyan." Reyyan replies, "I'm not dead." She imagines rose petals falling down on her, and she's happy. But then she sees Miran disappearing. "Don't go!" she cries. She's alone in bed with the rose petals. Suddenly she sits up and calls out, "Miran!" At the same moment, Miran sits up and calls out, "Reyyan!" She takes out her phone and calls him. He sees that she has called, and without answering, he says, "You left me, Reyyan. It's over." As if in answer, she says, "I won't let our love die, Miran. I won't lose hope."

herc
Hercai: #79 - p 2 of 3

Yusuf notices signs of life in the seemingly dead rose bush. He points out the small green leaves to Gul. "It's coming back to life, Gul! It's a sign of hope. The roots are strong. I knew it!" Gul is excited. She calls to Reyyan to come see. Reyyan is even more excited. "It didn't die. I knew it! It's alive!" A rejuvenated Reyyan picks up Gul and hugs and kisses her.

In contrast, Firat is sitting on a bench in the Aslanbey courtyard looking very sad. Gonul comes by and greets him. Firat notices Gonul and asks whether she said something. He didn't hear her. She tells him she said, "Buenas días" and then adds, "That's something one says in a happy home. I don't remember the last time anyone in this house had a good morning." She starts talking about Azize, and how her feelings about Azize have changed. "Her life is meaningless, we don't need her. Yesterday she claimed that we have her to thank for everything, for the property, for our food, even for the napkins we use. But that's not true. Firat, you can put everything in our names, and if it's all left to us, who could say or do anything against it?" Firat is shocked. "Don't say that!" he says. "You didn't say anything and I didn't hear you." Gonul claims that the only way to keep the family together is for Miran and her to get back together. Firat replies that Miran will not stop loving Reyyan. Nothing can come between them. Firat's phone rings. He listens, and then tells Gonul that he has to go for some important documents, and he'll talk with her again later.

Zehra comes to talk with Reyyan in her room. She tells Reyyan, "You're the only innocent one in this story." Reyyan tells her about going with Miran to Dilsah's old home. Miran found keepsakes of his mother's and was very moved and upset. Also, he learned that Dilsah didn't want to marry Mehmet. The Aslanbey forced her to be Hehmet's bride. Reyyan also takes out the diary she brought back with her. I wondered whether she was going to show it to her mother (who would then be able to compare the handwriting with that on the letter), but she doesn't. She simply says, "I have to go to Miran." Zehra asks her not to blame her father. Reyyan tells her, "Dad knew what he was doing." Taking the diary with her, she leaves.

Alone in Reyyan's room, Zehra remembers her daughter telling her, "From now on, don't interfere in anything that affects my life." She takes out her phone and makes a call. We then see a troubled Esma remembering Azize's words. Her phone rings. It's Zehra. Esma tells her she has nothing more to say, and to leave her alone. Zehra is clearly upset. "You can't give me responsibility for this letter!" she tells Esma. "We need to talk." She tells her where to meet her.

Miran enters the Aslanbey konak and is greeted by Sehriyah, who gives him an envelope that was delivered for him. She goes off and he opens the envelope. It's the divorce papers. (Huh? Did Reyyan sign them? Who sent them? It seems unlikely that it was Reyyan.)

Indeed, in the next scene, we see Reyyan enter the Aslanbey konak looking for Miran. Gonul tells her that Miran isn't there, and she asks Reyyan, "How can you show up here with no shame? Miran confused pity with love." Reyyan calmly replies, "You're wrong, fortunately. We have a very strong relationship. We have problems, but we'll work them out, and our relationship will be even stronger." Gonul retorts, "My love knows no limits, but yours does. If it didn't, you would have believed Miran when he said he didn't push your father. I would have believed him.

Hercai: #79 - p 3 of 3

Both Sultana and Azize are watching and listening. Perhaps for that reason, Reyyan moves closer to Gonul and whispers, "When Miran returns, take a good look at the ring on his finger, and never forget that you'll be with Miran only in your dreams." Reyyan leaves. Sultana comes over to Gonul and says, "well done, Gonul" and glances up at Azize.

As Reyyan leaves the Aslanbey konak, Firat drives up. Reyyan asks him whether he knows where Miran is. She has tried to reach him everywhere, but he's not answering. Firat claims he doesn't know. Reyyan says, "I need to tell him I was wrong, but he won't talk to me." Firat tells her, "Miran thinks the harm he did you is unforgivable." They continue to talk, and then Firat asks, "Do you know how much Miran gave up for you. He went against his family, against his abuela. But you chose your family." Firat does mention that Miran told him he had learned to love from Reyyan. Reyyan finally says, "I don't care about being right, I just want to be with Miran." Firat tells her, "Miran has sacrificed a lot, but it wasn't enough for you. You say you can't reach Miran's heart. That's how he felt every time you didn't believe him." Reyyan says, "I want to ask a last favor."

Zehra and Esma meet in the park. Esma is concerned that Zehra hasn't given the letter to Hazar. Zehra claims that he hasn't fully recovered yet. Esma tells her, "Everything would change if he knew. If his children keep living with that lie, people will die." Zehra admits that if she gave Hazar the letter, she'd be forced to tell Reyyan that she was adopted. (Well, not exactly, Zehra. You are her birth mother. And Hazar was with her from the moment of her birth. The only thing she'd have to tell Reyyan is that Hazar is her father but not her bio daddy.) Esma asks Zehra what she wants from her. Time, replies Zehra. "When the time comes, I'll do it. But right now I can't."

Miran has gone to the cabin and is looking at the divorce papers. His phone rings. It's Reyyan. He doesn't answer. She calls again. And again. He has a memory of when he left a despairing Reyyan the morning after their wedding night. He sees her in his mind, and he remembers her pleading "Don't go, Miran!! Don't leave me!" But this time, he turns around! He walks back. In his mind, he sees her there. Their song plays. They rush toward each other and hug and kiss. They're happy. And his fantasy ends.
He looks at a photo of her. His phone rings again. He leaves the phone on the stairs and goes inside the cabin. Firat and Reyyan drive up as the episode ends.

Telemundo's Program Guide says that tonight (Wednesday) both Hercai and Malverde will be preempted by fútbol. I think I heard a similar announcement about Hercai at the end of last night's episode.

I really enjoyed and needed this awesome recap Juanita! We had our first major snow storm yesterday afternoon and the winds that preceded the snow, caused major power outages, so I wasn’t able to record or watch the episode unit this morning on Peacock.

I am good with Yaren cleaning up sheep poop and horse stables! Glad Cihan and Nasuh finally agree on something! Too bad she has that Dilsah letter to use as a bargaining chip.

Miran sure isn’t cutting anyone any slack. I give Hazar a few points for trying to make it right for Reyyan. I always like the cinematography used for those spit ReyMir scenes.

It’s Alive! Glad the Miran Rose is showing life. There is hope!

I was with Gonul for a bit when she tried to convince Firat to use the assets on their behalf and cut out Azize, but that was until she became delusional about getting back with Miran and this: “Reyyan moves closer to Gonul and whispers, "When Miran returns, take a good look at the ring on his finger, and never forget that you'll be with Miran only in your dreams." Reyyan leaves. Sultana comes over to Gonul and says, "well done, Gonul" I would say Well Done Reyyan! That was downright biochie!

I don’t think Reyyan signed those divorce papers, my guess is it has to be Yaren. No wonder Miran was even more confused with Reyyan reaching out to him after receiving the documents. Firat, the new voice of reason. Who knew?

Ugh, Zehra, she gets more ridiculously stupid each episode.
Thanks for the recap, Juanita and for the heads up about the soccer game tonight. Now we have one less episode of reveals!

Wow, VVS, major snow in mid-October! I'm glad you were able to find a way to watch the episode this morning AND to offer such perceptive comments. Many thanks!

Yaren's gloating over what she could do with the letter somewhat puzzled me. What kind of damage Yaren could do? For whom is it still a secret that Hazar and Dilsah were in love? I suspect that now that Miran knows that the Aslanbey forced Dilsah to marry Mehmet, her relationship with Hazar wouldn't even be all that surprising to him, unless, of course, he's able to jump from that to the paternity of her baby. Azize might be upset at the existence of the letter, but so what? How would that serve Yaren's purposes?

And I agree with you that "Well done, Gonul" should have been "Well done, Reyyan." Of course, the best part of Reyyan's response was whispered, so Sultana didn't hear it.

I was impressed with Firat's responses to Reyyan. He was clearly standing up for Miran, presenting his case most forcefully, but he also gave Reyyan credit for some of
what she did for Miran, and Firat also stated that he wasn't angry with her. And he gave in to her "last favor," which apparently was to drive her to the cabin to see Miran.

I definitely share your feelings about Zehra.

The announcement that there will be no episode tonight surprised and disappointed me. With less than two weeks to go, I would think Telemundo would need every possible day. Though I guess if they knew far enough in advance about the fútbol, they may have been able to add more reveals into the remaining days. I guess we'll find out.

Wikipedia has a fairly detailed summary of the entire plot of Hercai, which of course you shouldn't read if you are planning to find some way to watch the entire novella.  Let's just say that there are far more plot developments than could possibly be fit into the next two weeks. So it's not clear what Telemundo means by these being the "Ultimos Capitulos".

Great recap, Juanita. Thanks so much.

VVS, are you up in the mountains? Glad you're ok and able to comment.

The first several minutes made my night. I cheered for GT. They edited that slap on Telemundo, we got the full effect in the original. I’d love to see Yaren slip and fall into those animal droppings, preferably face first. Looking at Blue Lass’ quip on the main page, will it be carcel, morgue or manicomio for Yaren? Safe bet nunnery is out in her case.

I have no idea how Yaren could use that letter.

Good try Gonul: Firat needs to be deprogrammed, too. Although, I agree that what he said to Reyyan was very good.

Reyyan got the best of Gonul, but I keep thinking Miran’s no prize. Why fight over him?

About Dilsah’s 2nd letter and notebook: “I wondered whether she was going to show it to her mother (who would then be able to compare the handwriting with that on the letter)” Exactly! I yelled at the TV. How many excuses can Zehra find for not showing Hazar the letter? Her behavior is inexcusable.

Nosy Turkish Lupe, lol. She must have sneaked a peek on those divorce papers. Who signed them? Zehra? Yaren? I can’t think of anyone else who would care enough to forge papers.

Hugo, spoilers are why I tend to stay away from Wikipedia. If we get canceled, I’ll finish the show online. It’s no problem for me. We shall see what they say on Oct 25.

HELP!

For some reason I was mistaken, thinking the fútbol was going to be Thursday instead of tonight. Thursday is Game 5 of the San Francisco Giants vs the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Game of the Century here in Califa. I thought I wouldn't have to recap that night as there'd be no episode.

Is there a volunteer for Thursday night so I'm not up until sunrise? Even skipping commercials, the baseball game will take up most of the evening.

Thanks so much for the terrific recap, Juanita. ITA on all your asides and insights.

After the episode was over, I put Zehra on my imaginary psychiatrist's couch. She's insecure and hasn't ever gotten over what an apparent come-down it was for the Sadoglus Hazar's having married a "tainted" woman. She's always been very meek around all of them. But like a lot of meek and humble people, she can swing wildly to angry harridan when she feels threatened. And Hazar's great love for Dilsuh, even though Dilsuh is no longer alive, sends her to that irrational place. She's driving the Patio nuts because she doesn't have enough confidence in her relationships with her husband and elder daughter to let the truth be known. She didn't even want to leave Hazar alone with his brother. She's always afraid someone will snatch away her happiness. But she's the one keeping everyone miserable.

I agree. How can that letter be a weapon for Yaren? IIRC it's the one begging Hazar to help Dilsuh, not the one revealing "Who's your Daddy?" But in her twisted mind she seems to believe that letter will prevent her being married off and cause great harm to Reyyan. Little does she know that Reyyan - and Miran - both know about the great love between Dilsuh and Hazar.

I am not a fan of those fake scenes where ReyMir appear to be together. And, the corny rose petals...please.

Because of Zehra's uncanny ability to screw everything up, I did not like Reyyan telling her about the visit to Dilsuh's village.

Many thanks, dondi356 and novelera, for your astute comments.
dondi356, I loved your remark re Yaren's future: "Safe bet nunnery is out in her case." And I'm glad to know that you, too, are puzzled about how Yaren can make use of the letter she stole. As for the divorce papers, I agree that Zehra and Yaren are the two most likely suspects. They're the ones who have the strongest reasons for wanting to break up ReyMir, and they're also the ones who could most easily enter Reyyan's room to get hold of the papers. In Yaren's case, I say "most easily enter" because nothing apparently stops her from doing what she wants. She certainly has entered Reyyan's room in the past to do damage (e.g., cutting up her wedding gown).

novelera, I think we should be calling you Dr. novelera, given your psychiatry skills. I have to say, I hadn't thought of Zehra as being quite so insecure, nor the effect that could have on her becoming very angry when threatened. I find your diagnosis very plausible. Are you taking new patients? When can I make an appointment? :-)

Juanita, thank you for an excellent recounting of all the lying, crying, and trying.

So Gonul has not given up on getting Miran.

Gramps has turned his wrath away from Rey and onto Yaren , and be wants the groom chosen for her to get her out of the house or off she goes to the country to manure out . yikes.

Why did Dilsah marry Mehmet ? How did their paths cross....a poor girl and a rich guy?

I will cover Thurs

Thanks very much, Susanlynn. I loved "all the lying, crying, and trying."

I'm so glad you asked the question about why Dilsah married Mehmet! I've been wondering the same thing. I'm assuming that he wanted to marry her, but given the fact that she was poor, would the Aslanbeys be likely to support his wish? They apparently pressured/forced her to marry him. Why? Was he perhaps gay and they wanted to hide that (or "cure" him by having him marry a very attractive woman)? Did their terrible mistreatment of her perhaps stem from the fact that they thought at first that the child she was carrying was Mehmet's, only to find that it was Hazar's? I'm just taking wild Cr@ckpot guesses. Perhaps some other folks will join in and add to the Cr@ckpot theory stew.

Herc

Yes...the million dollar question is why did Dilsah marry Mehmet. Before learning that she was forced into, I assumed she was forced to cover for being unwed and pregnant....but I'm leaning toward toward Mehmet eyeing her and deciding he had to have her...even though she didn't want him.

Juanita...him needing a beard is a good one....tho in all the dozen or so turk TNs I've seen....I don't recall the gay them coming up....unless I'm not remembering something.

Count me disappointed to learn that Telemundo edited Yaren's beat down. They should have played that scene is slow motion with a replay. She's needs to get slapped around as much as possible given the gratuitous beatings an Reyan received...vs Yaren who is spoiled, plotting and mean spirited for no good reason. She was treated like a golden child despited her whining about lack of freedom.

herc

Nett, I loved your saying that Telemundo should have highlighted Nasuh's slapdown of Yaren, putting it in slow motion with a replay! YES!

As for my suggestion that perhaps Mehmet was gay, you're right: I was thinking of Telemundo, overlooking the fact that Hercai is a Turkish novela. You've seen many more Turkish novelas than I have, and I don't recall LGBTQ issues in the few I've seen. In some of its recent Spanish novelas, however, Telemundo has dealt sympathetically with gay and trans issues.

FWIW, I too was leaning for quite a while toward the idea that she needed to hide the fact that she was pregnant and unmarried. However, after hearing the old woman tell ReyMir so forcefully that Dilsah didn't want to marry Mehmet, I'm less sure about that explanation. I guess we'll just have to wait and hope that in the few episodes remaining, we get an answer to the question.

BTW, I'm delighted that you'll be recapping tonight.

Herc

Add me to the list of those who want to know why the Aslanbeys wanted Dilsah and how they forced her. I can understand Dilsah objecting to the marriage because she loved Hazar. I also thought her family might have agreed to it because they found out Dilsah was pregnant. It would have been a huge shame for them. But the old woman said Sukran didn’t like the idea of an Aslanbey marriage either. Nett might be on the right track saying Mehmet saw her and decided on her. And then the ish hit the fan and then Mehmet hit poor Dilsah.

As for Aslanbeys worrying about Dilsah being poor, it seems that Azize was from a poor family, too, at least not the same status as the Aslanbeys. In La Hija del Embajador, the mother chose poor girls, who had lost one or both parents, for her sons. She did this so she would have complete control over her DILs.

There are no gay themes in Turkish dizis. This is a very controversial subject in Turkey. The only gay characters I have ever seen have been in romcoms. It’s never mentioned that they are gay, but you quickly get the idea because they are so over the top, stereotypically flamboyant and they never have a romantic attachment to anyone. IMO, cringeworthy or offensive. I remember seeing characters like this in some Spanish TNs, but that seems to be changing.

Nett, I’m looking forward to your recap, too! Hoping we get a good ep!
