Hercai - #85 – Parte 1 de 4
There will be a notable lack of snark in this recap. It was a real tearjerker.
Back to the ill-fated cabin. Miran continues moving through Reyyan’s labyrinth of memories. He finds the seashell he put to her ear so she could hear what she never had, the sound of the ocean. [Well…maybe a little snark. In the flashbacks we get to see Miran’s bangs that we all hated so much.]
He next sees their wedding photo and begins to cry. He remembers their being in the cabin and his taking down her bra strap. He looks at the tattered wedding gown. We hear Reyyan’s voice throughout these memories. She admits that it still hurts…that morning that he left her. Miran remembers seeing the burned cabin, thinking she had been inside.
Reyyan’s voice says that he left and she was destroyed. But then he came back into her life and once again she loved him. “I knew that you loved me also. But we once again fell into problems, and I stopped believing in you. But right now I am waiting for you in the place where you abandoned me. I won’t ask you again not to leave, only that you listen to your heart. Please talk with me, for good or for bad, talk with me. Because the things we keep silent about hurt us more than the things we say out loud.”
Eyes full of tears he calls out her name and runs outside. She says: “Here is where you left me, and I stayed here screaming your name.” He replies that he not only hurt her by leaving but also tore out his own heart when he did it. “How could I ever hope that you’d forgive me. I’m not capable of forgiving myself! I always said to myself: make her forgive you, Miran, beg her, get on your knees so that she will forgive you. But I couldn’t do it. Today I dreamed that I did not leave you that day. But thousands of times I revisit that scene where I left you, but I can’t make time go backwards. You said that you committed an error, but no. It was me. I am guilty of everything I’ve accused you of. I ran away, trying to go from your side. But I wasn’t escaping from you; I was escaping from myself.
Reyyan tells him that this is why she came after him. She knew he was doing himself harm.
Miran says that he had a strong voice inside him telling him that he was wrong. He wanted to erase that moment from her mind and her soul, to destroy that day.
She tells him she’s very afraid that they’ll be separated. He replies that he’s also terribly afraid that her unhealed wound will cause her to leave him forever. “In this place, where I destroyed your heart, I want to beg your forgiveness. Please, please forgive me."
Hercai - #85 – Parte 2 de 4
Tears streaming down she takes out Dilsuh’s ring, and he puts it on her finger. They embrace as if they never want to let go. He tells her that she’s his past and his future. Reyyan: “Never leave me!” Miran: “From now on we’ll never be separated. We are a family. I truly love you, more than anything in the world.
We see them once again wrapped in the same blanket, watching the sun rise.
Cut to Anguished Azat in his room. He says to himself that he loves Reyyan so much. He’ll always be there to take care of her. We then see Elif packing her suitcase. She looks at a photo, I think it’s of herself with her parents, before that accident. Azat calls. But we don’t hear what he says when she picks up.
Reymir are on the bed together in the cabin. [This is progress! But I don’t think any deeds were done; they are both fully clothed.] She tells him that however much their past hurt them, it’s because of it that they’re here holding hands. She goes on to say that new problems can arise, new lies. But they must never forget that they are husband and wife. They both swear to always be together and on the same path.
Sukran is arranging Miran’s baby clothes, saying that she was never able to give them to him. But, when he comes, she’ll give them to him for his own child. “I’ll keep waiting for you, imagining that these clothes have your scent. She tells the photo of Dilsuh that maybe her grandchildren will wear these clothes and, perhaps when he comes, he’ll have your smell. [All through this episode I am reminded of what dondi said about the dizi’s being preoccupied with people smelling each other.]
Reymir are outside Sukran’s house. Reyyan tells him that she believes Sukran with all her heart. “Go to your grandmother and heal her wounds. Embrace her.” When Sukran comes out Miran asks her if she’s really his grandmother. She asks him if he’s here for his mind or for his heart. He runs back to the car. Reyyan asks him why he’s afraid. Reverting to hysterical Miran, he says that he doesn’t know this woman. Reyyan: “If you hug her you might recognize the scent of your mother.”
Instead of Miran going in, he and Reyyan go to a not well-maintained graveyard. [I’m not sure why this scene was included. None of the gravestones there appear to be important to the plot.]
It seems like Sukran is not well. Inside her house she tells the photo of Dilsuh that she doesn’t want to draw her last breath without being able to smell his scent. Miran has come in. “Why did you lie to me before.” When she approaches, he puts up his hand to ward her off. “I don’t understand why you pretended to be someone else?” Sukran: “I had to do it.” Miran: “I came here out of hope. Why did you stay away for all these years? How could you collaborate with the stealing of my past? How could you let them take away the smell of my mother, her voice, her eyes?" Reyyan looks on, saying nothing.
Hercai - #85 – Parte 3 de 4
Miran: “I have been looking for the scent of my mother for many years. How could you deny me finding those things?” Sukran: “I had so many fears that they would take your life, my child.” [Whoa!} I went so many times looking for you. I slept in front of the door. But your grandmother told me that, if I valued the life of my grandson, I’d forget all about him. “Think of him as having died.” She says that she didn’t have any choice, sobbing. Miran: “This is a lie!”
Sukran takes him into another room. She shows him some clothes. “I knit these for you. They didn’t even let me give them to you. I held them close year after year, consoling myself with them, as if they had your scent, as if I were holding you.” Miran: “Why didn’t you fight for me? I needed you.” Sukran: “I never intended to leave you, my son. When I left this place and was going to that place, I left my prayers, my longings, and the heart of my daughter. I went with only my body. But even then I wasn’t able to approach you. I never could hold you or smell you. If it were not for your heart, you never would have come here. I was deprived of you, and you were deprived of me, my dear grandson. Let me hold you, if only once. I’m sure you have the scent of my Dilsuh. And, if my last breath has your aroma, I won’t mind leaving this world. I don’t have much time.”
At last he puts his arms around her. “You don’t know how I’ve missed you, grandmother!” They embrace for a long time.
Back in Midyat, Miran enters the Aslanbey konak yelling for HAG. The roaches come out to see the show. He tells her to come down. Then he tells her he’s brought a guest. He calls out to Reyyan, who helps Sukran through the door. We see Esma’s jaw drop. “I’m bringing my grandmother.” Firat: “What other grandmother?” Sultana tells Gonul she knew she’d appear someday.
Miran challenges the roaches. “Are you afraid of Azize Aslanbey?” He looks Esma in the eye. “How could you do this to someone you call a son? How could you hide his grandmother from him?” Esma haltingly says they left the city, and they didn’t know if she was still alive.
Miran turns to HAG. “You’re responsible.” Chin up, she replies: “Of course I am. I asked that they have you believe she was dead. I didn’t want you do have a relationship with her so as to prevent your suffering. My words will hurt, but I’ll speak if you want me to. When your mother was alive, she always said she didn’t want this woman in the house. I told her to leave. But she replied that she gave me the gift of Dilsuh because she (Sukran) never loved her. And, when Sukran came to this house she told your mother…’now you’re part of a rich family, but you never gave me anything.’ The only thing that mattered to your grandmother was the money. But your father (Mehmet) said that, in spite of all this, she was his mother-in-law. And he gave her money, because he was very generous.”
Hercai - #85 – Parte 4 de 4
We see Sultana’s face, just gob smacked from these lies. And HAG goes on: “But Dilsuh was ashamed, ashamed of the whims of this woman. Sukran came here every day. “ Miran looks toward Sukran who shakes her head briefly. HAG: “But she didn’t come to see you; she came for money!” We hear but don’t see Sukran, voice trembling: “Lies! Stop lying!” HAG: “Don’t pretend you’ve forgotten that you sold your daughter for a small fortune. Didn’t you threaten us with asking for custody of Miran if we didn’t pay you?”
Sukran: “God is listening to you, and you ought to fear him. How can you speak all these lies?”
Miran: “Enough! Then you ought to have paid her if she asked for money. She IS my grandmother!. You could have invited her to stay here or at least put an extra plate on the table so that I could have grown up near my grandmother. At least I could have grown up with the truth.” HAG: “What do you mean by that?” Miran: “I always wanted to talk about my mother and you hushed me up.” HAG: “Because I didn’t want you to suffer.” Miran: “I was already suffering. A child growing up without the love of his parents is already suffering.”
Sukran: “I never wanted anyone’s money! I only wanted you!” HAG snarls at her to shut up.
Reyyan: “Why do you want to shut her up? If she’s lying, what do you have to fear. Let her speak first and Miran can decide who he prefers to believe.”
We see HAG’s disturbed face and then we see the big red letters on the white background that mean se acabó para esta noche.
Fab recap novelera! And I do believe, if I say so myself, that some snark is always needed! What an emotional episode! The “bangs” brought it back to a level playing field for me for a moment. So Miran’s been pushing Reyyan away because HE was afraid that she would always come back to that moment and never completely forgive him and eventually leave him?? And Reyyan gave him the opportunity to make that fear his reality. Deep down inside, Miran really believed that HE was not worthy of Reyyan’s love. No honorable man would do what he did to her, plus take her virginity. Reyyan lost her innocence because of him, but, honestly, I’m glad she did. It was her innocence that allowed her to let people treat her like dirt. Well not anymore, hallelujah! I was hoping that they would do the deed, too, but I think we’ll be waiting for that special moment after they get closer to the truth. They’re in the “soulmate” honeymoon phase, not the “sex on the ceiling” phase, lol. I’m liking where they are in their relationship though.
Loved Miran’s reunion with his grandma, but the whole smelling thing has me stumped, especially after many years have gone by. Those baby clothes would kinda smell a little moldy unless grandma had a bottle of scent de Dilsah lying around somewhere, lol. Or would it be scent de Miran??? Smells don’t tend to linger around for 27 yrs unless the whole point is in the “remembrance” of the scent? I can still remember what my grandma smelled like.....ahhhhhh.
Azize’s lying azz sure has the gift of SnapBack! She can come up with an answer to anything, without batting a eye, and like grandma Sukran said, “ with no fear of God” at all! Azize must’ve already accepted the fact that she’s going straight to hell! Lol. Somehow though, I know she’s going to redeem herself because she’s the one with the most to lose in the end. I believe she’s Ayse and Hazar’s real mom. I believe her heart will change once she learns the real truth about what happened between her and Nasuh. I believe she’s gonna be beggin foe EVERYBODY’S forgiveness———ok, I might be stretching things a bit, but time will tell, lol
Funny how the roaches are never doing anything that prevents them from quickly scurrying into the courtyard......like sitting on the toilet bowl or something🤔🤔🤔
Muchas gracias Otra vez novelera!
BTW, there’s a Dizi website called northamericaten that has Hercai and many other Turkish novelas subbed in English. Of course there’s a fee, but it’s only $5 bucks a month for premium content—- which all the novelas are. You can cancel at anytime. It’s run by and subbed by a group of business women who love Turkish novelas. The regular content, without premium is free. Lots of blog and recap stuff.......
Tearjerker indeed. Wonderful retelling of the episode. Thank you, novelera.
Very emotional scene at the cabin. "Scavenger hunt down Memory Lane" as Susanlynn called it, or "labyrinth of memories" by novelera. The thread of love. Very well done by Reyyan. She gave Miran an opportunity NOT to leave her this time. And they were able to talk through the painful points that separate them. When Miran was trying to save Reyyan from being killed by her family, she once said "I see it in your eyes, the remorse. Say it! Say that you are sorry!" But that time Miran didn't say anything. They both needed it. Miran needed to beg her forgiveness and Reyyan needed to hear it. Now their relationship will rise to the next level.
Sunrise scene.

Azize is quick on her feet inventing lies but I don't think anybody is believing her this time.
Carmella, I like your theory about Ayse - Azize and her changing her heart. Becoming everybody's fairy godmother, perhaps. :)
Thank you , novelera , for another wonderful recap of all the stress and suffering .....ahhh .How do these tortured souls get any sleep ?
The Mexican telenovelas also have a thing about the scent of loved oneS, especially soul mates . It reminds of an article I read about how pheromones cause people to be attracted to each other, and I remember that I noticed and was attracted to the scent of my future husband immediately. He played a lot of sports , but even after a game, he never smelled " bad" to me. People are attracted to another person's natural scent. Also, scents become memories ...a beau's aftershave, my aunt's perfume, my mother's apple pies, the strong, heady fragrance of hyacinths.
An excellent recap, novelera. Your retelling made it come alive again.
I wonder what would an episode be like without Miran weeping or lashing out? As long as the bangs stay in the flashbacks….
“You said that you committed an error, but no. It was me. I am guilty of everything I’ve accused you of.” Bravo, Miran. Lucio said,” their relationship will rise to the next level” and just in time for the season end! So maybe in the second season we can finally see ReyMir as they were meant to be. They will join forces to bring the families together.
Beautiful Cem Adrian song, thanks for sharing the links, Lucio. They played it in an earlier ep. It’s a favorite of mine.
carmella, don’t hold your breath for ““sex on the ceiling” you will have to imagine it. RTÜK (censors) will take the clippers out. They have become so strict. I’ve noticed that we get some uncensored scenes when the dizis show here, but still nothing like TNs.
“Funny how the roaches are never doing anything that prevents them from quickly scurrying into the courtyard .....like sitting on the toilet bowl”, lol…only if it benefits the storyline.
I’m also familiar with North America TEN. Thanks for sharing that, carmella. I’ve been to that site. It’s good info, especially if you are a fan of the actors they feature. They also post interviews on YouTube. But I didn’t feel the need to pay for their content. YMMV
That graveyard scene wasn’t in the Turkish. But I got the idea Miran was looking to see if his grandmother was dead and buried there. That was weird and unnecessary. IMHO, they cut so many other things that are more important.
So now the Turks are imagining scents….lol. I agree with you, Susanlynn, about the power of scent and the connection to memory. I have vivid memories of waking up to the smell of my grandmother’s Sunday sauce.
I really enjoyed that last scene. The young ones had no clue, but Esma and Sultana knew. Let’s see if Sultana has anything to say. I hope Azize does not get away with it this time. Tonight should be interesting.
dondi356
Wbat was the purpose of that scene in that cemetary which lasted a pretty long time . Whose graves was Mir looking for....his grandfather's ? His motber's?
I wondered about the grave scene too. But when Miran said something to the effect like “mother are you even here,” I was like “ lightbulb moment,” is Dilsah alive ???????
IMHO the graveyard scene was useless. Was that supposed to be the family plot? Miran stood in front of a grave for several seconds staring and they didn’t show the name on the stone. Maybe it was supposed to be his grandfather’s?
I looked back and Miran asked, “could you still be alive? Could you be reborn from the grave?" and then, "She has always been dead to me.” Rey asked did you find anything? he didn't answer.
I think he was looking to see if he found a grave for Sukran. It’s just a guess and I could be wrong. This scene was not in the corresponding Turkish episode.
dondi356
I still hoping that Dilsah will be found alive. That's one of my crockpot theories. Remember Sultana said HAG locked her up. Maybe she's in a manicomio. I want a grand reunion for Hazar and Dilsah. Miran would have his mother and father back. Maybe they can bring Zehra's husband back from the dead, too.
dondi356
Thanks VERY much, novelera, for this terrific recap! I'm sorry to have come so late to the party.
Like several other commenters, I was puzzled by the graveyard scene. It isn't the graveyard where Dilsah is buried, or, at least, it isn't the one that has her tombstone next to Mehmet's. We've seen Miran go to that cemetery several times to visit his mother's grave. So I don't know why he says, "Mother, are you even here?" Why would he think she was there, when he had always gone to the other gravesite? Carmella raises the possibility that perhaps Dilsah is still alive, but I'm not convinced (at least that "lightbulb moment" didn't light up for me, at least not yet).
I'm also astonished at what dondi356 has said, namely, that the graveyard scene wasn't in the Turkish version. Perhaps I misunderstood what dondi said? How could the scene be in Telemundo's version if it wasn't in the original one?
With just two episodes left in "season one," I wonder what tonight's episode will include.
Thx for the great recap.
I think we were all puzzled by the graveyard scene. There are lots of content that is filmed but never makes it in the original so to see it the our version vs the original turk version is not a big deal for me. What is a big deal is why was it added??? I too have been holding on to the possibility that Dislah is still alive. What a happy ending for both father and son if she truly were. But then how would they handle Zehra's character. Or could it be just the satisfaction that everyone is reunited without breaking up Hazar and Zehra.
Hope Miran places guards outside Sukran's door. She's not long for this world if Azzie puts her mind to it..and decides she's spoiled her plans enough. And so glad Sukran was able to speak up and deny the lies that Azzie told about her wanting money. Too bad Esma or Sultana coudn't shed light on the situation. Their positions in the mansion aint that secure...but I do wonder if Esma told the whole truth about what she knew.
Nett
Thanks for the kind words, all. When I saw how many conversations there were and not just idle chatter, I tried to put my head down and get them all in there.
Dondi, thanks for the idea that Miran may have been looking for Sukran's gravestone. I just was bewildered by the inclusion of the scene at all. I was going to scream if he left there without talking with Sukran.
I can't imagine that HAG is going to be brought down in two episodes. And I can't imagine the segunda temporada without her evil machinations. I can't imagine scene after scene of ReyMir cuddling and kissing. There has to be some conflict.
I'd love for Dilsuh to be alive, fulfilling our crockpot theory. But, didn't we see two bodies very early on, in that scene when Miran was about 5 years old and HAG was reminding Miran of what he'd seen with his own eyes. Plus...there's the problem of Zehra. I don't think there's plural marriage in Turkey!
What I'd REALLY like to know, and sooner rather than later, what HAG has over Esma, keeping her in line. It appears to be something about Firat, but it feels like more to me.
Slight rewind of Sukran’s arrival at the Aslanbey konak and Azize’s stupid attempt to slander her. There is pushback from Miran and Reyyan.
Azize tells Reyyan, I will not be disrespected in my own home. I’ve known this woman for a long time and I know her better than you. She accuses Sukran of trying to fool everyone with her tears. You must have heard we were back and sought us out, she says to Sukran.
Miran speaks up, she didn’t seek us out. I sought her. That turns HAG’s head. I want to know the truth, Miran says, I demand you tell me what really happened. Do you want the truth, Azize asks? I don’t think so. You only want to hear whatever aligns with your heart’s desire. Azize adds, I said what I had to say. She calls for Mahmud and asks him to take Sukran out of her house. Miran shouts at Mahmud, don’t you dare! Then he looks at Azize and states, my grandmother stays.
No way, Azize snaps back, this is an insult for me! Gonul is next up to bat. This isn’t just your house. We all have rights in this mansion. You can’t decide this alone. Miran is within his rights to let his grandmother stay. Elif takes a turn saying, Gonul is right. Our parents had the ownership of the Aslanbey properties. Miran’s grandmother can stay as long as she wants. You don’t own everything. Cut to Firat, who remains silent. [is he thinking about his POA?]
Miran orders Esma to prepare a room for Sukran. She goes to do so.
I see you are all against me, Azize says, even the most innocent (Elif). And here comes the guilt trip [ Azize needs a new bag of tricks]. I never abandoned you when you became orphans, she tells them. I’ve given you everything. I didn’t abandon you like she (Sukran) abandoned her grandson. I did what I could to keep you from feeling the absence of your parents. [Catch the look on Sultana’s face?] Azize continues, you ought to be ashamed. I am so disappointed. She looks at Elif. One day you will realize your grandmother was right, she says, I hope that day doesn’t come too late. Azize heads for the stairs.
You can’t run, Miran calls out, I have questions! He follows her up and so do Rey and the roaches. They leave Sukran all alone on the patio. Miran asks Azize for answers. I am your paternal grandmother, Azize begins, your father’s mother. I am the last tree standing in the forest. I raised you under my [evil] shadow.
She looks around and adds, I raised all of you. When the sun blazed, I provided you with shade. She looks at Miran, when Mehmet and Dilsah were murdered, I made a promise. I swore before their bodies that I’d seek revenge. I swore those responsible would pay, for every tear my beloved grandson would eve shed. Reyyan looks upset by the lies but holds her tongue.
Through crocodile tears, Azize says, now you ask me for the truth. This is… the only truth that matters. You grew up without your parents’ love because they were murdered. Reyyan flinches but still remains quiet. This is the only truth for me and it’s the truth my grandchildren should hold in their hearts. We see Firat again, who has said nothing at all through all of this. Azize goes to her room. Miran takes off and Rey runs after him. Sultana says [Turkish], Azize knows just how to make the wounds bleed.
Miran runs up to the roof and lets out a roar. Rey rests her head on the back of his shoulder and puts her arm around him. I love you, she tells him, I love you so much and I’ll never leave you, Miran. You’ll never feel abandoned again. I’ll be there when you need a shoulder to lean on. Don’t let your grandmother hurt you again. Don’t let her drag you down. Miran turns around and gives her a hug. Can we stay like this a little longer, he asks?
dondi356
Meanwhile we get to witness the HAG have an epic meltdown. She’s pacing, breathing heavily like she’s in pain. Then she proceeds to scream and trash the room. She looks in a mirror and says to herself, the enemy’s seed I took in will turn my family against me. They are rebelling. You did what your family does best, Miran Sadoglu, she hisses. Betrayal is in your DNA. It’s time I do what I do best. You will exact your revenge. Your father will die by your hand and then you will learn the truth. Everyone will.
Sultana and Gonul are out on the patio. They see Miran and Rey together up on the roof terrace. Gonul asks her mom, why didn’t you tell me about this sooner? Why didn’t you tell Miran about his grandmother? Sultana answers, you’ve lived with your grandmother and Miran for a while but I’ve been living with my MIL all my life. I won’t apologize for staying silent. Then she says something very interesting: Grandma Sukran isn’t just here for her grandson. There’s more to it. Sultana gets up and leaves.
Firat comes out, followed by Esma. Gonul stops him. Do you finally understand my comments? You may run our companies, but Miran and I have to fight to protect everyone in the family or Azize will tear us apart. Firat does not answer. He leaves. Gonul says, you’re running, but I won’t run away.
Cihan questions Azat as he leaves the konak. Azat tells him he has something to do. Cihan reminds him about Yaren’s engagement and Azat says he will be back in time. Cihan tells him he hasn’t forgotten the Elif issue just because he’s dealing with Yaren. He asks Azat, have you considered it? Azat says he’s in a hurry, they’ll talk later and leaves. Handan walks up and tells Cihan she doubts Azat will marry Elif. He will, trust me, Cihan replies. How can you be so confident, Handan asks? Cihan says he believes in Azat when it comes to Reyyan.
A stylist shows up to get Yaren ready for her big night. Cihan warns Handan to keep a close eye on Yaren, they don’t need another scandal. Unfortunately, when the ladies get to Yaren’s room, she is not there. Handan panics and tells the stylist to keep the blow dryer on and the door locked while she goes to look for Yaren. [What the hell is Handan wearing on her feet?]
Meanwhile, Yaren shows up at the Aslanbey hotel. She asks for Harun Bakircioglu. She goes to wait in the restaurant.
Azize sits in her room and talks to herself. So, you no longer want to obey your grandmother, Miran. You are doing your own search, you are listening to Reyyan. Continue your search. I’ll find a way to hide the truth. Hmm…
Back to ReyMir. Rey asks if Mir is feeling better. He sighs. I know you are confused, she says, but… Miran says he’s not confused. I can see everything and everyone clearly now. I know what I have to do. And what is that? Miran says, I’ll go back to the beginning and investigate. We’ve gotten this far with the notes. Whoever is sending them has helped us learn something new.
He recalls the note after Rey’s kidnapping, visiting Master Gabriel [hopefully Philip returns soon], and getting the note that took them to Derik [Dilsah’s village] and Sukran. Rey asks, are we going to wait for another note? Yep, that’s Miran’s plan. He expects they will receive another note. They will continue the search and find the sender. He’s sure the sender is the only one that has the answers. Elif appears and tells them that Sukran has disappeared. [So Miran brings his anneanne to the konak, shocking everyone, then they quickly forget she’s there.]
dondi356
Miran yells at the guards at the door. How could you let her go? Reyyan and Miran take off in opposite directions looking for Sukran. Poor woman can hardly walk, she couldn’t have gone too far. We see Sukran limping along. She stops to ask a woman for the bus stop. Reyyan catches up to her and calls Miran to let him know. Reyyan asks Sukran if she left because of what Azize said.
Sukran says she couldn’t care less what Azize says, but Miran stood still and stared at her. Reyyan tells her that’s why she should stay with Miran. You can erase the doubts that torment him, she says. Rey tells her she believes her and Miran will believe her, too. But if you leave him now, she continues, you’d be abandoning him. Azize will use it to manipulate him. You don’t want to hurt him again. Sukran shakes her head. [I agree 100% with Rey, it’s a bad look and HAG will take advantage.]
Miran shows up. You said you longed for me for years, you said you’d stay with me as long as I wanted. Sukran explains, I never meant to leave you. I just wanted to leave Azize’s house. Let me wait in my town for you. Miran bends down to talk to her. I’ve been told stories for 27 years. Those stories are different from yours. You came into my life and asked me to believe you, and on the other hand, there’s my babaanne. You can’t expect me to process this quickly. Allow me to listen, figure things out, and think first. I don’t want you to be sad and I don’t want to be away from you. Come with me, anneanne.
Sukran asks, what about your other grandmother? She doesn’t want me around. You have enough going on and I won’t make trouble for you. I’m not afraid of Azize but I don’t want her to hurt you. [too late for that.]
Back to Yaren waiting impatiently for her damat. She thinks, is he getting ready to go on stage? [Interesting Telemundo translation: does he fancy himself Madonna?] How long does it take for a man to get dressed? Harun appears, dressed much trendier than the average Midyat resident.
You couldn’t wait to see me, he cheerily greets her. Yaren snarks, yes, I fell prey to your charms and rushed over to see you. She leans in and asks, what the hell are you talking about? I’d never set eyes on a man like you. He smiles, I love a girl with a strong personality. We will make an explosive couple. Yaren declares: ¡Que pareja! [which Telemundo translates to “couple my ass!”] We are like cats and dogs! Still smiling, Harun replies, it’s more fun that way. One runs away and the other chases. In this case, I’m the cat and you’re the bitch [once again, Telemundo comes through with a better translation!]
Yaren won’t take this sitting down. Listen, she tells him, I didn’t come her to listen to your dumb jokes. We can’t even have a conversation and we definitely won’t get married. We can’t even be seated together. Call off the engagement, take your family, and get the hell out of here.
Harun rises from his seat and moves in close. Listen cutie… Yaren objects, how dare you call me that! Learn your place! Harun’s face changes in an instant! That smile is replaced by an icy stare. He grabs her arm. Yaren is shocked. What are you doing, she asks? Let go of my arm, you’re hurting me!
Harun does not let go. Firat appears in the distance and notices them. Harun says, first of all, when I call you “cutie”, you will answer, “yes dear.” Yaren says are you crazy? You’re hurting me. Let me go.
Firat hurries over and pulls Harun away. What’s wrong with you? How dare you touch her! And who are you, Harun asks? How dare you interfere when I’m talking to my fiancée. In shock, Firat lets go of Harun. Firat asks Yaren if this is true, is he your fiancé? Yaren is quiet, she can’t even look at Firat. Harun answers, that’s right. I was given her hand in marriage.
dondi356
Yaren explains, my father forced me into it. Firat tells Harun, I don’t care who you are. Don’t hurt her or I will take care of you myself. [she’s not worth it, Firat] Yaren tries to calm the situation. I’ll handle it, she says, people are staring, and I don’t want to cause a scandal. Please don’t let my grandfather find out about this. Harun smirks and Firat walks away.
Yaren goes to follow Firat but Harun grabs her again. Listen, he scowls and warns, as of right now, I am Harun Bakircioglu, and you are my future wife. Therefore, you can’t do whatever you want and chase after other men like some lunatic…. or else… Yaren interrupts, or else, what? I’ve rebelled against my grandfather. I’m not afraid of you. Harun cautions, you don’t know me. I’m not like your grandfather. Watch your step or I’ll break your legs. Fear is a good thing, he tells her, it keeps us safe. [Whoa!]
Yaren pulls from his grip. I’ve never been afraid of anyone… much less a wretched man like you. She grabs her bag and goes. Harun sits and gives us an evil smile. He picks up a toothpick. So, you are not afraid of me? Perfect. That will soon change. You’ll be terrified. He places the toothpick in his mouth. [Yaren might wish she got a warty and smelly damat, instead of Harun]
Elif joins Gonul and Sultana out on the patio. Elif thinks that Sukran left because of Azize. Sultana says, have you noticed that besides us, no one can stand your grandmother for more than 3 minutes? We deserve a medal and praise from all Midyat. Azize overhears and says, what’s keeping you here, Sultana? Go parade around. The door is there. Gonul speaks up, are you going to attack my mother, now?
That conversation is interrupted by Sukran’s return to the konak. Miran calls for Esma. Is my grandmother’s room ready? Yes. ReyMir help Sukran to the steps. Azize calls out, God is kind, for He allows me to keep a close eye on my enemy. I am grateful. Rey takes Mir’s hand as a reminder to be strong, she’s there for him. They ignore HAG and help Sukran to her room. Azize says softly, I will make you pay for this, Reyyan. You will pay dearly for making Miran face his past. No one who defies me walks away unscathed.
Yaren askes a waiter if he’s seen Firat. He tells her Firat went across the street. Yaren gets a call from her mother. It’s not a good time to take the call. Yaren is frantic. She needs time to think.
Miran tells Sukran to call him if she needs anything and he leaves the ladies. Reyyan asks Esma to join them in the room. She begs off saying she’s busy, she’ll catch up later and if you need anything, just let me know. Sukran notes that everyone must be terrified of Azize. Reyyan tells her, please don’t spend your time cooped up inside. Miran wants you to be well.
Sukran is grateful. I won’t let Azize scare me, she says. As long as Miran goes after the truth, I’ll be by his side. Elif shows up and asks Rey for help with something. They leave. [Nett said to put guards around Sukran’s door. I think that might be a good idea.]
Yaren locates Firat. I need you to hear me out, she tells him. Do you want to marry that man, he asks? She replies tearfully, no, I don’t love him. I don’t know him, and I don’t love him. He asks, are you okay? Yaren cries, I’m doomed, Firat. There’s no way out. She turns but Firat stops her from leaving.
He asks, who is that man? A friend of the family? I don’t know who he is, she sobs in reply. He came to ask for my hand. They are getting rid of me. I don’t love him. I came to tell him that. My family is forcing me to do this. I thought I could change his mind. Firat tells her to calm down so they can talk. Yaren continues to cry. I’m being forced to get married, she says, what more is there to say? What will change?
dondi356
Firat thinks they can’t do this to her. In Turkish he says, what century are we living in? [maybe so, but they are living in Midyat] No one can force their children into marriage. Tell your family you refuse. What they are doing is not fair.
Yaren explains, they will go through with it because I’m a bad person. You’re not a bad person, Firat says, [no comment] She tells Firat it’s otherwise. Do you know how hard it is for me to admit it, she asks? No one would openly admit to it. People say life has made them act a certain way. They find excuses to justify the darkness in them. Firat interrupts her and says, you’re brave to admit it and you’ve admitted it to me. [Wait, Firat, there’s more…]
Yaren starts…. I knew what would happen to Reyyan. I overheard Gonul and Sultana discuss it. I knew it was a fake wedding and I knew Reyyan would be thrown on the street. I knew everything. I heard them talking and kept quiet. Firat is stunned. He asks why she did it. Why didn’t she stop it? Yaren answers truthfully—because I wanted Reyyan to suffer. I was very jealous of Reyyan. [Firat, you liked this girl. What do you think now?]
Weepy Yaren continues, my brother, my aunt, my uncle all loved her so much. I know that doesn’t excuse what I did. Everyone at home learned the truth and now they despise me. They want to marry me off to get rid of me. And that violent man you saw is the man they gave me to. No one at home cares about me.
Firat asks, so you came to ask him to call off the engagement? Yes, but he wouldn’t listen, she says as she wipes her face. I don’t know… maybe this is what I deserve. Maybe if I get married and have my own family, my soul will be released from darkness, and I’ll be healed. Perhaps I’ll finally be a good person.
Yaren looks him in the eyes, I wish…. You were the one who’d heal me. This echoes in Firat’s head. I wish you could teach me to be a good person, for you to be my partner in life. That echoes with Firat, too. You are the kindest man I know, she tells him. I honestly hope you meet a woman worthy of your love. Goodbye… Yaren leaves. Do you think we should believe Yaren?
Azat is waiting for Elif, wondering what’s keeping her. She finally shows and gets in his car. Azat was getting worried. Maybe she got caught. He hesitantly starts, Elif, do you still…? Yes, she answers without hesitation. I’ll do it, I have no choice. He reminds her she doesn’t have to do this.
But she says she does, as long as she lives in that house. A home should bring you peace, she tells him, when you enter, you should feel safe. However, no one is safe here. Azat says, you won’t be staying here anymore. Your life will change. I hope what you say comes true, Elif replies. I can’t stand living in fear.
Azat continues, Elif, do you…? I mean… I’ll ask one last time. Once we do this, it will be difficult to go back. You know that, right? She knows, she’s sure. I want to take control of my life, she says. I can’t stand to stay in that house anymore. Things are out of control. How, Azat asks? She starts to talk about Dilsah but Azat says she doesn’t have to tell if it upsets her. She thanks him and says, sometimes a person wants to be understood without saying anything. She says she will call him when it’s safe.
Yaren arrives home and an anxious Handan is right there to greet her. She pulls her daughter to come before anyone notices. Yaren starts begging, mom you have to help me, I can’t marry that man. Handan shushes her. You will get your punishment in your room. How did you get out? Yaren pulls back. Mom, listen, that man isn’t what he seems. Please listen.
And we are out and on to the gran final de primera temporada. My last recap for the season. Thanks, everyone.
dondi356
I read that UniMas is replaying ¿Que Culpa Tiene Fatmagül?, starting Monday, November 1 at 9a! Episodes will run 2 hours. I checked my Zap2it listing for my area and sure enough, it was there. Yay! I highly recommend watching.
There are recaps on Caray from when it aired on Telemundo years ago. I know Vivi, Romy, J desde NYC and Nett were among those recapping and commenting. If anyone watches this time, I’ll be around for discussion.
dondi356
Thanks VERY much, dondi356, for this superb recap! As always, you captured everything, and with delightful snark.
Well, I've got to admit, this episode definitely held my interest. The revealing of Harun as probably a sadistic abuser surprised me. As much as I have enjoyed seeing Yaren get slapped by Nasuh and her parents and cheered them on, I feel uncomfortable about her being married to someone who seems to be a sadistic abuser. I suspect she'll find a way out of this, though I hate to think that it will be Firat who saves her. It may well be true that she thinks highly of him as the kindest man she knows, but I doubt she'd be so interested in him if he didn't have the Aslanbey POA.
Oh oh, I think Harun heard Yaren plead with Firat not to let her grandfather know about what she has done to try to cancel the wedding plans. My guess is that Harun will be happy to let him know.
As for Sukran--yikes, how could all of them forget about her?! I was astonished when no one thought to stay with her. And though I agree with Nett's suggestion that they put guards at Sukran's door, I don't think that will be of any use, given their being incompetent enough to let her leave the konak. Though I guess perhaps they might have been acting (or, rather, failing to act) out of respect for her age?
And while I'm on the topic of Sukran, Miran tells her that if she needs anything she should call him. How? I don't remember seeing her with a cellphone.
I too was interested in Sultana's enigmatic statement about Sukran being there not just for her grandson. Sultana and Esma are the Aslanbeys who best know the ugly truths Azize has been determined to hide, but while Esma seems reluctant to confront Azize directly, Sultana has been far more outspoken (though she too is frightened of Azize). I think it's likely that Sultana will help bring down Azize, but not in "season one." Sigh.
I'm looking forward to Monday's gran final, but I'm not optimistic about learning all that much that's new. My guess is that ReyMir will be shown to be happy happy, with very little resolved. I hope I'm wrong...not about happy happy, but about the paucity of new information. We'll see. Again, MANY thanks for this and all your other terrific recaps!
Thank you, dondi356. Entertaining recap.
Telemundo English CCs are not mincing words. Funny.
"You did what your family does best, Miran Sadoglu, she hisses. Betrayal is in your DNA" - interesting. She is alluding to a pattern. Did someone from the Sadoglu family betray her before?
"Do you think we should believe Yaren?" Not for a moment. Words are empty, especially coming from Yaren. I hope Firat has enough sense not to fall for it.
Elif and Azat. I don't like the sound of this. Especially now with HAG angry with Miran and Reyyan. This may escalate pretty quickly.
Cool episode and even cooler recap! Thanks dondi356! Some moments can be hard to capture completely but you did it so well with this one!
So onto the nitty gritty starting with Azize. Azize is a master liar and manipulator extradonaire! She can turn it on and off like an easy bake oven and in my estimation can make the most doubtful believe her! Methinks she’s losing some of her mojo though, and sooner or later become the HAG that cried wolf! Wouldn’t it be great if all the cockroaches laughed while she was telling one of her bald faced lies! I can just picture her storming off all red faced, lol.
For a hot 1/2 second I wanted to believe Yaren as she told Firat the truth about herself. Thing is, she never told him she did it because she wants Miran cause she “saw” him first. Yaren will always give only as much info as she deems necessary. Yeah I was surprised at this sadistic side of Harun, but he better watch out cause Yaren will kill his azz and blame it on Firat because Firat threatened Harun. She did sound sincere though, lol.
I don’t think we’ll get much of anything resolved either though. They’ll just emphasize that Reymir are “on it together” in search of the truth…..
I try not to put too much stock in Sultana’s words…..she’s always talking loud, but saying nothing. We only seem to get revelations from her through flashbacks. She even talks in riddles to Gonul, and it’s so annoying!!!!
Thanks again dondi 356! 😁
Another terrific recap, dondi! You are the master at asides that echo the Patio's thoughts.
I wonder if more will be revealed about Harun and his family. Could they be after the Sadoglu money? I was not expecting that reveal of his true character. There's something going on there. Cihan rustled them up awfully quickly and butter wouldn't melt in their mouths.
I smell a Yaren redemption. Sounds like others on the Patio think she hasn't changed at all. And we didn't see her usual transformation to evil grinning after she'd told her tale to Firat. She also didn't try to manipulate Firat into helping her, just wishing him a good woman in his life.
That scene in HAG's room was like watching a vicious dog. I like to see her thwarted, but she's pretty scary when that happens. And I am not looking forward to any of her threats to harm Reyyan. I suppose, for dramatic purposes, they aren't going to show ReyMir moving into the cottage, transformed with mod-cons.
I wish they hadn't made Sukran appear so feeble, with hints of some terminal disease. She bravely says she's not afraid of Azize, but I would have preferred her staying around for the duration.
Dondi , thank you for every detail..the devil is in the detsils.
Wow ....that damat seemed too good to be true. .He originally seemed to be a good natured jokester in from of the family at the formal get together , but looks are deceiving. Instead, he seems To be abusive . Firat coming to Yaren's rescue, makes me think that they may end up together , and perhaps,Firat will help Yaren redeem her Nasty self.
Are Azat and Elif planning to elope?
I haven't watching this episode yet, but now I will know what is happening when I do.
OT....I wish I had Unimas so I could watch Fatmagul , my new favorite show.
I was call out of town for a business trip and I am very late to the almost end of Hercai season! Thank you novelera and dondi356 for the great Thursday/Friday recaps! Looks like I get to cover the temporary “end” on Monday.
novelera, your recap was a lovely rendition of what I watched with ReyMir reconnecting and cleaning the slate to start over and the Miran finally accepting his grandmother. I was very moved with the acting. Of course, the HAG continues to ruin everything. So many crockpot theories out there that still need resolution.
dondi356, I always enjoy your Saturday morning Specials! Yaren met her psycho soon to be husband match! Yes! I don’t feel one bit sorry for her. I think she believed what she said to Firat about wanting to be a better person, but I don’t think she is going to change.
What were Azat and Elif talking about? Did I miss something?
Thanks again novelera and dondi356, now that I am home I can properly rewatch both episodes and reread the awesome recaps.
Thanks everyone. Just when I thought I needed a break from the same old stuff, we’ve had some interesting revelations.
I’m with those who were surprised by Harun. novelera, I thought we would get a Turkish Taming of the Shrew, too. But it looks like Yaren might find herself in a nightmare of a marriage. I’m not sure yet if I’ll feel sorry for her.
Juanita, good point about Harun using Firat’s interference and Yaren’s plea to his advantage. And I guess Sukran will have to yell if she needs anything.
carmella, ITA there was a “hot 1/2 second I wanted to believe Yaren”. Wanted is the operative word. Very interesting speculation that Yaren would have to kill an abusive Harun and place the blame on Firat. I wish Firat would wise up. He should take Yaren’s advice and find a worthy woman.
I’m still wondering if Azize had anything to do with Harun becoming Yaren’s damat. She seemed so pleased that Yaren got engaged to him. And they are staying at the Aslanbey hotel. Just a coincidence?
VVS, the convo between Azat and Elif was vague and didn’t contain the word “marriage”, but we’ve been led to assume that’s what it was about. Maybe they are planning something else.
I’m thinking they have to leave us with some sort of cliffhanger. We shall see.
dondi356

I hope it don't take long for the 2nd season to start.
Thank you again Dondi
Ps, that smell thing, is that a Turkish thing? I have memories
Of aromas when I was growing up
Especially this time of year. It always comes up after mom n dad are gone.
