TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#1): Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagül, Parientes a la Fuerza, Malverde: El Santo Patrón, y más: Week of November 1, 2021

Welcome to Page 1 (Monday edition) of the Telemundo y Más page, issued twice a week:  Mondays and Thursdays at 8:00 PM.

Here are the current telenovelas (all times are Eastern Daylight Time):

  • 9-11AM -  Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagül**
  • 9-10PM -  Parientes a la Fuerza
  • 10-11PM - Malverde, El Santo Patrón

**As Juanita wrote in Page #2 for Telemundo y Más, we have decided to include comments and/or recaps for the very popular Turkish dizi, Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagül, which will be shown for two hours in the morning on the UniMás channel.  Usually only evening telenovelas or dizis are discussed here, but we're making an exception.  The identifier at the top of the comments should be: fatmagul.

Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation.  Since discussions of all the Telemundo novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post so readers can easily find the conversation they're looking for.

By common agreement, this group DOES NOT discuss previews, trailers, or any other plot information not found in a current or past episode of the current production.  Spoilers WILL be removed by the admin.  This includes references to earlier productions of the story, and even the original novel.  Thanks for your cooperation!

Well, I managed to record today's 2-hour episode. Even with dondi356's excellent description of some of the major characters, I'm still a bit confused, but I'm almost always confused at the start of a new show. One thing that surprised me is that the person who plays Vural is the same actor who played Demir in Todo por mi hija. A nice surprise. One other thing is that I had heard about a scene on the beach involving the Yasaran brothers (Selim and Erdogan, Vural, and Kerim), and their, um, confrontation with Fatmagül. Well, either I fell asleep or it was drastically cut. I'm not complaining--what I'd heard about it sounded pretty awful. But I was surprised that I saw very little that resembled what I'd been told. (I'm being deliberately vague in case some people haven't yet watched the episode.)

One more thing. I assumed that Fatmagül's brother, Rahmi, was mentally slow. I think it was a combination of his appearance, how he behaved, and what he said. But then I read dondi356's character descriptions and saw that Rahmi is married to Mukaddes. I was stunned. I wouldn't have thought she'd marry someone who was mentally challenged, and he seemed far too goodhearted to have been attracted to a perra like Mukaddes.

I'm still sorting things out and don't have much else to say at this point. I look forward to hearing what other people thought.

fatmagul

Arrgh. I just realized that in my comment above I made it seem that there are four Yasaran brothers, whereas in fact there are only two, Selim and Erdogan. The closing parenthesis should come after Erdogan's name, not after Kerim's.

Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen Monday morning's two hour show

I also watched it, but fairly late in the evening. I was hampered by, I believe, having recorded the wrong UniMas channel. I chose HD, and there were no Spanish subtitles in HD. I was trying to see if I could get subtitles on YouTube and see it there. So I wasted a half hour realizing that the instructions for getting subtitles on YouTube didn't work for me. I read instructions and watched a video, but somehow my version of YouTube doesn't have the settings described. Still trying gamely, I discovered subtitles on another novela on the other, non-HD, UniMas channel. So I assume I should have Spanish sub-titles going forward.

At any rate, I could get the gist without subtitles.

Yes, Juanita, Rahmi does seem at the very least slow-witted. And Mukaddes is a major perra. Later on in the show I caught that she is Mustafa's auntie. For a while there I thought she was so mean to her cunada because she had her eye on him herself. Still not sure why she appears to hate Fatmagul so, unless it's jealousy of how pretty she is.

Something is going on with land by the coast that Ebe Nine (the healer) mentioned. She told the Resat Yasaran, the truly nasty brother, that the land was protected. There was also some sort of either racist or xenophobic thing going on with their talking about Greeks living near them.

I was surprised that they have a huge tiered cake at an engagement party.

Resat's son Selim is sort of a charming ne'er do well. His cousin Erdogan works for Selim's father, Resat, and resents not getting a percentage of the company. The other brother, Rifat, seems nicer. There was something about Erdogan angrily having said that Resat was trying to push his brother out of the company.

Well, I was wondering if the quick cut from Fatmagul being grabbed around the waist to her on her back with a gag in her mouth was Uni censors or Turkish ones. It was so abrupt.

Selim, Erdogan and Vural appear to be the rapists. They showed Fatmagul with a sort of flashback of Selim and Erdogan. I don't remember seeing Vural, although I suppose we can assume he participated. Some sort of drug was consumed by the guys at the engagement party.
Kerim, the nice guy, adopted son of Ebe Nine, was extremely high. I don't think he raped Fatmagul, but I don't think he knows for sure what happened. He seemed racked with guilt.

Lots of classist scenes, not all that different from Mexican telenovelas, in that the rich people look down on everyone else.

I also noticed Vural was played by our buddy Demir in Todo por Mi Hija. He looked much younger. It was kind of nice seeing him without the stubble he sported throughout the other dizi.

There were a LOT of commercials. The guide said Episode 1, and I was wondering if what they showed in two hours might have been only one hour when it ran the first time.

fatmagul

AND...I forgot to again thank dondi. Without her cheat sheet, I never would have been able to grasp who all these people were with no sub-titles.

OT/Telemundo:

Novelera: I noticed Guy Ecker's new Telenovela is debuting soon.

Any thoughts ?

Fatmagul #1 comments

It’s been a few years since I’ve watched this from the beginning. Good to get a refresher. You did a good job with your mini cap, novelera.

Yep, that’s Buğra Gulsoy playing Vural, who was Demir in Todo por mi Hija. He looks younger because this show originally ran Sept 2010 – June 2012. It came to Telemundo Dec 2015.

I found it interesting that they made significant edits. The Turkish episodes in this dizi are shorter than the ones we see in newer shows. Most are between 1:30 and 1:45. The Uni ep went around 25 minutes into the second Turkish episode.

I don’t think it’s a spoiler to mention what happened on the beach. That’s what drives the story and there’s much more to be revealed and explored. Besides, it’s mentioned in a lot of reviews and descriptions.

Uni cut the rape scene. It’s in the Turkish version. Yes, it’s hard to watch. Nevertheless, I think it was important to see it in its entirety. Maybe they felt it was too much for a morning show. I don’t remember if it was cut in the Telemundo airing. If you want to see it, it’s on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnwb_Xq7wiQ

In the scene where Kerim had the dream about his mother, they cut that he came home quite drunk and Meryem was upset that he was driving. He promised her he wouldn’t do it again. It’s clear she thinks Kerim’s “friends” are a bad influence. And Master Galip thinks the “friends” take advantage of Kerim.

The translation wasn’t too bad, but for some strange reason they changed some of the dialog. In the scene where Vural shouted at the girls in the car, Vural asked Kerim what happened with the English girl he was with. Kerim said they keep in touch by email.

Mustafa calls Mukaddes “yenge” but it’s a term that is not easy to translate. I often see it translated as “tia” but it’s not a blood tie. Fatmagul calls her yenge, too. It’s mostly used to refer to a brother’s or male friend’s wife or girlfriend, so it’s closer to SIL. Note that Kerim calls Meryem “abla”, which is the term for an older sister.

Resat is looking to develop that land and make it a tourist destination. He has a short window to get this done because there might be a change in the law that will make it harder and/or more expensive for him to get it done. That’s where Turaner, the elected politician, comes in. And of course, Meryem is against development. BTW, Meryem’s mother was from Greece.

Erdogan is very bitter at Resat’s treatment of him and his father.

Mukaddes is a miserable character who lives to make everyone else miserable. She alternately warned and accused Fatmagul of having premarital sex to the point of it being an obsession. She worried that Mustafa would dump Fatma, it would bring shame on the family, and then no one would want to do business with them.

Yay. I am so interested in the comments from the wonderful recappers and commenters here. I am sure that you will love this dizi. Dondi recommended it to me when she was recapping La Hija ( which I almost gave up on because the little girl looks like one of my 4 granddaughters and I couldn't stand to see her upset and crying ). I went online to find fatmagul to check it out ,and after the first episode , I started jumping around to episodes in the middle and end to see if I wanted to keep watching . Now, I will finally begin at the beginning to enjoy this excellent show with all of you.

Everything about this show is excellent ..the writing , casting , acting, music, scenery.

Remember that the show was recapped here a few years ago by Vivi and others .

You are in for a wonderful ride from start to finish .

Fatmagul

I am watching the entire first episode for the first time. It sets everything and everyone up perfectly for the first time,...the rich and the poor, and I am learning new details . I found it interesting that when Vural called Selim that Selim told him NOT to bring Kerim to the engagement party, but Vural replied, "Ill bring Kerim." That is what Kerim heard. These guys went to the village elementary school together, but Vural seems to be the only one who really likes and is still connected to Kerim . Meryem knows these rich guys are not good for Kerim to hang around with . She suspects that they gave him drugs in addition to alcohol when he comes home after spending time with the rich kids after picking Vural up at the airport. Kerim is naive and sweet compared to these spoiled , rich guys.

Fatmagul

Hi Susanlynn. Note that Kerim wished Vural hadn’t told Selim he would bring him to the engagement party. Then he said he’d have to change his clothes. Vural told Kerim he would have let him borrow a shirt, but it would be too short on him.

There are a lot of little details that are interesting to note and easy to miss when you are trying to read subtitles and/or trying to translate. It was helpful for me to watch this dizi multiple times.

dondi356

Fatmagul

Dondi, I noticed that Selim didn't really want poor Kerim at the party. When Selim and his fiance made their big arrival at the dock in that plane, Selim told Kevin that he was "more handsome ." Vural and Erdogan told Kerim that Selim was a womanizer with lots of names on his phone and a hard drinker . They indicated that getting married would not change Selim's habits .

When the guys went to pick Kerim up at the blacksmith workshop , Kerim told Them that he had to work . They told him they would give him the money be would earn. Master Galip gave them the stink eye and set them sraight that Kerim was a partner and that they didn't have enough money for his worth. You can tell that Galip loves and respects Kerim. Earlier , while Kerim was working , Galip warned him just as Meryem had that these guys were not his true friends . Having taught many young guys , I recognize guys from humble families wanting to be part of the world of richer classmates \ teammates . Kerim enjoyed being part of the wealthy lifestyle even if for just a bit in the summers when these rich boys came into town. You can see that Kerim is dazzled by the lifestyle the rich boys take for granted .

This first episode perfectly set into motion each character and his or her circumstances before the incident on the beach will change everyone's life forever and always .

Fatmagul

Susanlynn, I’m glad we are finally free to discuss this dizi again. Of course, Selim said Kerim was “more handsome”. He’s Engin with the long hair.

Erdogan has a huge chip on his shoulder. He was the one who was rude to Galip and made that crack about paying Kerim. Selim called his cousin out on that and apologized to Galip. Galip is a father figure to Kerim.

ITA with Kerim being dazzled (maybe a little overwhelmed) by the lifestyles of the rich and famous. He feels important when he’s with them. Otherwise, his life seems mostly work and very little play.

And ITA that the first episode introduced the characters and set the scene well. That’s why I was disappointed with some of the edits, no matter how small they seem. I don’t remember, did Uni cut the scene when, after his dream, Kerim went to his room and looked at his parents wedding picture (with his father’s face cut out), and the picture with his mom on the horse?

dondi356

Dondi

I watched the original Turkish episode today, and I am amazed at how many small details were established. They did show Kerim dreaming about finding his mother hanging when he was a little boy.... after he came home drunk that first night with the rich boys. Also, they showed him looking at the family photos .

Awful Muk tells Fatma that she must herd the sheep. Kerim is driving the guys, who are already drinking , in the jeep . They seem to use him as their designated driver. They tell him to stop when they see Fatma trying to get a sheep out of the water . She falls and gets wet. They laugh and call to her. It seems that Kerim is about to go help her, but they mock him . They say she is prettier than the girls they played volleyball With at the beach , and that she would look like a goddess if they took her the city and cleaned and dressed her up. One of them says that she would still smell like sheep. During tbe vrsphic raoe scene, tbe pohr alcohol on her because tbey remember seeing her wet fdom falling in the water. They definitely show the 3 raping her and then swimming . The last scene on the beach shows Kerim dazed and standing and looking down at Fatmagul .

When Fatma gets home, Muk scolds her about "swimming" and walking through the village wet. Mustafa is there and seems turned on by seeing her in the wet dress and angry and jealous that others saw her. So we see that he is jealous, possesive and controlling . Also, he seems to be grabbing and touching Fatma every chance he gets . She has to tell him to stop. She tells him she will come to the beach the next a.m. when he leaves, but he tells her not Goodreads to and she agrees.

Muk is so Mean and jealous of Fatmagul. Muk seems to regard Rami as her sex object when she isn't bossing him and putting him down. A sly, conniving , evil being . uff

Fatmagul

Well I figured out how to watch it after all. I have only seen the first episode. It's definitely going to be interesting getting accustomed to the custom differences like with the whole big deal made about Fatma falling in the water to get the sheep I was just thinking so what?

Selim was right Kerim is definitely better looking them him lol

fatmagul

Delighted to see so many comments about the premier episode. I just wish it were one hour per day. I think we can get by with just comments. We had a solid team of recappers for Hercai and most of us probably could use a break. I am loving everyone's takes on scenes.

So, from what dondi said, it appears that what Telemundo aired was not two full episodes of the Turkish original (with the usual cuts they always make to dizis). It was one episode and 25 minutes of episode 2. I don't care how they do which parts to put in two hours. And, of course, I would NEVER watch it in real time without having a DVR and the ability to race past the commercials.

Thanks for the link to the awful rape scene, dondi. I will probably watch it just to understand more fully what happened to her.

I don't know if I'll be able to hang with watching it every day, so I may end up catching up on the weekend.

Fatmagul

The other thing that struck me finally watching the complete first episode is how the writers lay out the lives of the rich and the poor side by side . It wouldn't make a good Venn diagram. Selim and Meltem have a lavish engagement party while Fatmagul prepares a meal for her future husband and in laws , and they discuss the wedding . Muk says they can get married by a judge and not have any kind of party to save money . Mustafa's mother says " Well, we aren't getting A widow , so we will have some kind of wedding that we can afford. " We are presented with a vivid picture of the haves and have nots. Rich or poor ...man...woman..birth...death . Weddings, births, illness, problems, challenges, death are a part of all lives , all cultures, rich or poor.
When Fatmagul takes the snacks to Meltham , she gazes at Meltem's white corset . The girls are asking Meltem about Kerim. She tells them that he is a blacksmith . They say be is handsome and can dance .

After Kerim takes the pill Erdogan gives him, he runs into Fatmagul . He smiles at her and asks if she is a fairy. Then Mustafa sees them and looks angry and jealous . Kerim walks away . Mustafa asks Fatmagul what the guy wanted , and she fibs and says he was asking where the bathroom was. She is evidently familiar with Mustafa's possessive nature .

fatmagul

Novelera, it looks as if the TV gods have heard you say "I just wish it were one hour per day." Today's episode was only one hour long! I was surprised, so I went into the Guide and found that tomorrow's episode, too, would be one hour long. I too was wondering how I would fit two hours a day into my schedule. Now it looks as if we may not have to.

I'm still somewhat confused about who's who. We see that the police are investigating and have come to the home of one of the Yasarans asking questions. I think it's Selim who calls Kerim and tells him to come to Yural's house, they have to talk and plan. Kerim at first refuses, but at last he reluctantly relents. And once Kerim is at Yural's, Yural tells him, "I remember. You were there. You too did it. She was screaming, and you enjoyed it." I'm not sure why Yural says this. Does he really believe what he says, or is this part of the plot the guys have come up with? If so, was their plotting cut from the version we saw today?

Also, Ebe Nine, the "healer" who found Fatmagul on the ground after she was raped, is again at the crime scene with police. Mukkedes is also there. Mukkedes comes upon a small black and white object on the ground. Does anyone know what it is? It looked to me like part of a feather. Whatever it is, she put it in her pocket and said nothing to anyone else about it, all of which suggests that it may turn out to be important, for good or for ill.

Mustafa's parents arrive. Mukkedes is moaning "we're dishonored," and I think Mustafa's mother expresses great sympathy for Mustafa, "poor boy." Ebe Nine is angry at the mother's caring only about Mustafa and not at all for the girl who was raped.

I think at one point someone also said that the police had found prints (huellas) on bottles at the scene.

Mustafa is at sea, working on the boat. He tries phoning his parents, who are too unhappy and embarrassed to tell him what they know. Mustafa approaches the ship's captain, who seems to know what's happened but also can't bring himself to tell Mustafa. He assures Mustafa that Fatmagül is not dead. I think Mustafa finally figures out what must have happened, and he lets out a scream louder and angrier than the screams of Miran at his most despondent and Nasuh at his angriest (sorry for switching novelas, but I think most of the people reading this have also seen Hercai: amor y venganza).

Fatmagul #2

Thanks, Juanita for getting the convo started for ep 2. You’re right, today and tomorrow are only one hour, but zap2it has a 2 hour ep on Friday. There are a lot of commercials in the 2 hour ep and I thought it went fast.

Erdogan is the one who has called the meeting at Vural’s house. He was also the first one to rape Fatmagul.

Kerim can’t remember what he did or didn’t do and they haven’t revealed anything else at this point in the Turkish ep. So do we believe Vural or not?

Mukaddes found Selim’s engagement ring. Uh, oh…. At breakfast, Meltem notices that Selim’s ring is missing. He says he left it in the bathroom.

Yes, the Jandarma (Gendarme) is investigating, and they took fingerprints from the liquor bottles.

The captain told Mustafa, but we didn’t hear him tell, we only heard Mustafa’s roar.
They cut something: Fatmagul thinks back to when she was in a rowboat with Mustafa and she asks him what was the first time you thought about marrying me? He said when I saw you with your hair in braids, you passed by our house on the way to school. I thought that girl will cook good meals for me. They end up in the water and he steals a kiss from her. End flashback. This seems insignificant now but remember this for later. Fatmagul smiles at the memory and Mukaddes yells at her for smiling.

Vural gets an acceptance letter from Cambridge for a Masters program. His parents might have had something to do with it.

Vural’s mom is having an affair with Selim’s Uncle Munir.

Selim is forced to make a desperate call to Uncle Munir. He tells him he’s in trouble and they need to meet.

A psychologist is brought in for Fatmagul.

It’s amazing how some think of themselves as the victims instead of showing support to the real victim, Fatmagul. It’s disgusting. Meryem and Rahmi are the exceptions—thank goodness for them. And Kerim is feeling mighty guilty.

I think it’s fine to mention Hercai, it’s a Telemundo show. This “honor” thing is a thread that runs through lots of dizis.

dondi356

Fatmagul

The tragedy of the first episode rolls forward. Fatmagul is in the hospital wounded in body and soul. Kerim is tortured with his guilt .The three spoiled playboys are scared to death as their fearless leader Erdogan tries to do damage control. Meryem is shaken to her core when she realizes her beloved Kerim was at the scene of the crime .

As Taking roams the village streets looking for his sister , he actually stops Kerim coming from the beach.

I noticed that the guys seem to try to cleanse themselves with water..Vural goes into the pool fully clothed . Kerim returns to the beach and goes into the masterfully clothed. Erdogan splashes water on his face .

Muk is a wicked witch screaming and blaming Fatmagul and then taking Selim's ring from the crime scene at the beach and using it to blackmail his father.

Mustafa's mother cries for......Mustafa !!!!...Fatmagul has ruined ...HIS life. Ugh....these people.

Meanwhile , Rami sits with his sister and tries his best to comfort her.

Vural, the one guy who seemed to truly like Kerim, tells Kerim and the other two that " Kerim did his thing" like they all did . Kerim can't remember and only has brief flashbacks. Viewers only saw the 3guys swimming after raping Fatmagul and Kerim standing and !looking down at an unconscious Fatmagul.

Kerim calls Uncle Munir , the lawyer, begging him to get them out of this jam.

fatmagul

I saw part 2 a little while ago. Yep, the Turks love scenes of wailing, crying, and yelling. I am disgusted with Vural. I think he just wants Kerim in the same boat with him, at risk. He's seemed like the nicest of the three rotten ricos, but apparently he's not.

Well, Mukaddes now makes Yaren look like a good person. Yikes, her screaming at Fatmagul while she holds up her scratched arms trying to cover her ears. Of course we all knew Muk would decide it was all Fatmagul's fault, but it's hard to watch. And, what about Rahmi, is he gelded? He just blubbered a bit, unable to stop the vicious woman from attacking his sister, whom he says he loves.

Susanlynn, you mentioned some things I don't remember seeing; such as Meryem realizing Karim had been there when Fatmagul was raped. Also, we haven't seen any blackmail resulting from the lost ring.

Fatmagul

If anyone is following this dizi just by watching the Turkish episodes, please be aware that they don’t exactly match up with what UniMas is showing. Yesterday’s Uni finished approximately 2/3 of the way through Turkish episode #2. Be careful not to post spoilers.

I need to find an English subtitles for Parientes a la Fureza. There is one on Telemundo YouTube, but for some some strange reason they only have about 15 minutes of each episode.

The novella is on Peacock. Does anyone know if they would have English subtitles on Peacock? I don't want to subscribe and find out they don't.

Or anywhere else I could find this?

Thanks!

Oh no. I apologize. I am so sorry, and I will be more careful in the future . ;(

dondi356

Fatmagul #3 mini cap part 1

The psychologist speaks to Fatmagul but Fatma is not ready to talk.

Mukaddes finds the inscription in Selim’s engagement ring and the wheels turn in her head.

Munir is livid when he meets with the guys. He slaps Selim and Erdogan and curses them.
Erdogan thinks they can fix it if one of them marries Fatma. Munir tells them that’s not possible, the laws on that have changed. Erdogan tries to excuse it saying they were drunk and someone slipped them drugs and suggests financial compensation. Selim begs his uncle to do something. Vural and Kerim remain quiet.

Kerim finally makes his way home and Meryem is outside. She’s ticked he didn’t come home when she called earlier. He tells her he’s sorry and starts to walk away. She questions him and grabs his arm. He turns and shouts at her. He’s never done that before. She follows him into his room. He’s crying.

Meryem thinks his friends did something to him and is worried. She keeps pushing for answers. What is more important than the life of a young woman, she demands to know. Why don’t you answer me! Kerim tearfully says, I didn’t do it. She realizes that Kerim is somehow involved in what happened to Fatma. She starts beating on him and cries out. She's horrified and calls him a rapist.

Munir goes to the hospital. He speaks with Rahmi under the pretense of helping Fatma with her case. He finds out that Fatma hasn’t named her attackers yet.

Meanwhile, Mukaddes goes to the Yasaran’s and interrupts their dinner with the Alagoz and Namli families. Resat leaves the table to speak with her. The 3 “rotten ricos” (thanks, novelera) hear Fatma’s name and look very worried. Muka flashes Selim’s ring and Resat is pleased. Not so fast, she found it at the site of the rape.

Mustafa comes to the hospital and heaps more abuse onto poor Fatma. He screams and shakes her, who did this! Rahmi finally manages to pull him off the hysterical Fatma. Fatma is sedated.

Mustafa leaves the hospital where his father and fishing mates are waiting outside. He swears to them he’s going to kill whoever did this. One of the men thinks they’ve already arrested someone, so they all head to the police station.

Meryem tries to drag Kerim out of the house to bring him to the police. He resists and keeps denying participation, but he really can’t remember. Meryem tries to call the police and Kerim stops her. She keeps questioning him. He doesn’t say much but from the look on his face, she figures out that Fatma was gang raped.

This confrontation is interrupted by a knock on the door—it’s Munir looking for Kerim. Meryem lets Munir have it and tells him she’s determined to go to the police. Munir stops her and tells her Kerim is in big trouble. He warns her not to go to the police. Before Kerim leaves with Munir, Meryem tells him she won’t give him her blessing (no forgiveness) and that his mother must be turning in her grave.

dondi356

Fatmagul #3 mini cap part 2

Of course, as soon as they leave, Meryem heads to the police station where she sees Mustafa and the others demanding the rapist. Meryem gets scared and takes off. The police decide to keep Mustafa overnight to avoid further trouble.

Rifat wanders in on Mukaddes trying to cut a deal with Resat. She says Selim should marry Fatma or he can go to jail. Erdogan and Selim lurk and are caught when Resat, Rifat and Muka leave the room. Resat asks if what he heard is true and shows Selim the ring. Then he gives his son a couple of slaps just as Meltem walks up. Erdogan leads Meltem away, gives her a bs explanation and tells her to keep quiet.

Erdogan goes back to the room and hears Selim selling him and the others out. A scuffle ensues. And Mukaddes says the punishment has increased.

Kerim arrives at the Yasaran’s and the 3 rotten ricos accuse him of squealing to Meryem. Munir settles them down and they strategize.

After the Alagozes leave, Resat, Rifat and Semsi leave their wives to return to the strategy meeting. The women wonder what is going on. It must be something bad.
Munir says they could compensate the family and if one of the perpetrators takes the blame, this could be fixed. All eyes turn to Kerim.

Muka returns to the hospital and sends Rahmi out of the room. She tells Fatma you didn’t listen and now you will. Someone will pay but you can’t do anything. Mustafa will not marry you. Everyone’s talking. They say you consented. Fatma finally speaks up—there were four of them, they were at the engagement party. Muka shushes her, don’t say four, one is enough. Muka says they will take Fatma home tonight.

Kerim objects to being the sacrificial lamb. He proclaims his innocence and Vural tells him to stop lying, he saw everything. Resat says he’s got too much at stake and Kerim has to take the blame. Kerim stays firm, he won’t go down alone.

Munir assures Kerim that he won’t go to jail. The girl’s family is almost convinced. Then they can do the wedding, he says. Munir tells Kerim, then you take your passport and leave the country. Start a new life and we will set it up for you. Kerim is in shock.

Fatma goes home with Muka and Rahmi. The doctor informs the police. Mustafa overhears.

And we are out. Fill in the gaps. Discuss.

dondi356

Fatmagul

Dondi , you gave us an excellent , detailed recap of this episode . Thank you so much.

The writing and acting are excellent. Everybody is scrambling to get out of this mess while Fatmagul lies wounded both mentally and physically and Kerim suffers with his guilt and horror . I can bare!y stand to watch both of them so devastatingly distraught and in shock as the rich folks conspire to have Kerim take all the blame, Muk tries to make money off the tragedy , and Mustafa rants and raves about revenge and offers no support or comfort to the girl he supposed!y loves.

Engin is remarkable . His face and body language let us understand everything he is feeling . Everything Meryem and Master Galip Saud about his rich friends is true. They are all want him to take the blame so they can continue their lives . Wow.

The remark Meryem makes about his mother being ashamed of him cut him to the quick. The expression on his face was horrific . The scenes between these two are spellbinding .

Hugo I wasn't thinking earlier I have the free subscription for Peacock and Pari is only available on the paid subscription so I couldn't verify for sure. That said, I can tell you that I have watched multiple Telemundo shows on the free site and they had English subtitles. Hey Guys! its Marta (formerly known in Telenovela-world as marta I, here as martaivett.)
I was now watching a movie on Hallmark and they announced a movie Friday night at 8pm EST (gingerbread [something or other]) starting Jon Ecker, (Guy Ecker's son). I could not believe how much Jon looks like Guy... and that he is now a Hallmark movie lead. check how much he looks like Guy here. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm4015603/mediaviewer/rm1146725632/

By the way, Jon Ecker is also listed as actor in the newer season of Chicago Fire.

fatmagul

Thanks so much for the fine recap, dondi. I have Zoom Spanish this evening and thought I'd take some time to watch today's Fatmagul before class begins at, gulp, 8PM to 10PM. It's so late because Leonardo teaches all levels of Spanish. When his mother developed dementia, Leo took on her only class, Advanced Spanish. He was willing to teach so late. Graciela is from Guadalajara and the most fabulous language teacher I've ever had. Our whole group who have been in this class for many, many years was distraught when her symptoms became obvious.

Rotten ricos, indeed. Actually, of the three, Selim showed a hint of remorse last night. Erdogan just wants Kerim to take the rap, as does Kerim's good buddy Vural.

I could have screamed when Muk hustled Fatmagul out of the hospital before she could get any help from the psychologist. I assume it's so Fatmagul won't tell the shrink, putting a spike in Muk's plan to extort the ricos.

And, yes, Mustafa is not exactly an ideal novio. They showed him remembering Kerim approaching Fatmagul at the big party and being jealous.

I was a bit confused about Munir's plan. I thought he meant that Kerim would marry Fatmagul and the two of them would leave the country (something about passports). I thought he was referring to a way out that some character recently mentioned: a rapist can marry the raped woman and not be jailed. But someone else said at that time that "the law" had changed. Munir might also have been referring by se casan to Selim and Meltem.

Definitely a riveting show, but I am looking forward to the time when there's a smidgen of normal life for Fatmagul.

Peacock

My friend logs into Peacock using his cable subscription. Most of the older TNs have both English and Spanish subs available. I’ve noticed the newer ones like Hercai and Parientes only have them in Spanish. I don’t know why they stopped supplying English subs.

Fatmagul

Thanks, Susanlynn and novelera.

Mukaddes is despicable. She’s in cahoots with the Yararans, shushing Fatmagul and hustling her home to keep her isolated.

We didn’t hear the exact terms between Muka and Resat. But Munir is trying to convince Kerim to take responsibility for what happened, perhaps to say it was consensual. He mentioned they almost have the girl’s family (Muka) convinced. If Kerim takes responsibility and marries Fatmagul, it would serve to clean her honor and the family would agree not to press charges. Then Kerim and Fatma could leave and start a new life. Muka is also working on her end by telling Fatma how everyone was gossiping she consented to sex with some guy and her marriage to Mustafa will never happen.

In the past, the legal aspect could be solved by marrying the girl to her rapist. I believe the victim wouldn’t be able to press charges then. Munir said the laws changed and that wouldn’t work anymore.

Resat, Munir and Erdogan are vile. Selim is a coward and so is Vural. Mustafa is a macho idiot.

Susanlynn, you know how I feel about Engin. The scenes between Kerim and Meryem are outstanding throughout this dizi. BTW, they worked together on another series before Fatmagul.

The early episodes are difficult to watch but stick with it. It’s a great story about justice, forgiveness, family, and love.

Fatmagul

One thing I have noticed in the Turkish culture is that the bride seems to "marry" the groom's whole family . I have heard the groom's family talk about " our bride."

Muk is a dark soul. She never misses a chance to criticize or terrorize Fatmagul. She treats her like a servant in her own home . In fact, she treats Rami the same way. What a nightmare to live with that bad juju.

Watching Munir and Muk scheme is scary....two evil souls.

Many thanks, dondi356, for your very helpful mini-cap. I don't have much to add to what you and others have said. I was somewhat surprised at Meryem's fury at Kerim even though all he said at that point is that he didn't do it. Are we simply to assume that since she raised him, she knows him so well that she can tell when he's lying? (And it's not even clear whether he is lying.)

I guess tomorrow (Thursday) we go back to two-hour segments.

Fatmagul

Juanita...watching those scenes between Meryem and Kerim were heartbreaking . Both actors made The emotions seem so real and raw.

Meryem told Turaner that the villagers called her mother EbeNine , and when her mother died , they called Meryem that name .

This story unfolds like the layers of an onion . The writing and acting are brilliant .

Fatmagul

I will post a mini cap this evening.

Fatmagul #4 part 1

I condensed and combined some scenes.

The Yasaran cabal continue to pressure Kerim. He continues to resist and says he says he can’t look at that girl again. Munir tells Kerim he will be saving the girl. The townspeople will remember her as she is now. Munir delivers a devastating low blow to Kerim: You know what they said after your mother’s suicide. Tell me if I’m lying. We will be saving the girl and all of you as well.

This scene is interrupted by Meryem shouting for Resat Yasaran. She starts banging on the door. The wives run over to her. Inside, the cabal makes their final pleas to Kerim to capitulate.

Meryem and the other ladies are let in. Munir tells her that Kerim is ready to confess what he did. He made a mistake, and we are going to help him. Meryem is too smart to believe this. She says they are hiding something else. She can see it in their faces. She adds the doctors said that more than one person raped the girl. The wives are shocked. Meryem shouts, you all did this! And now you just want to blame him (Kerim)! My son said he didn’t do it!

Resat says that the rotten ricos were at here all night and gets the wives to back him up. And Vural lies that Kerim wasn’t with them. Meryem doesn’t know what to think. She askes Kerim to tell her he didn’t do it. He remains silent. She sobs.

The women sit with Meryem. Perihan says that the girl’s family will drop charges. Meryem replies, will this erase what has happened? She screams at the men in the other room, will this crime be forgotten? The rotten ricos get ready to leave town. Munir promises Kerim things will change in a couple of weeks.

Next day, Munir and Mukaddes arrive at the police station. They meet Mustafa on his way out. Muka can’t hold her tongue. She tells Mustafa, if you would have married sooner, this wouldn’t have happened. It’s all over. Munir gives Mustafa his card and says they have to talk. Mustafa’s family takes him home.

Muka starts to talk to the officer in charge and Munir jumps in saying that Fatma lied to everyone. Muka turns on the water works for effect and tells the cop Fatma loved Kerim and was seeing him secretly. No one knew. They were planning to run away when Mustafa went to sea. But when they met that morning, Fatma got scared and Kerim got angry. Munir adds that Kerim is regretful, and he loves Fatma.

The cop asks where Kerim is hiding. Munir says he’s waiting for things to calm down and Fatma doesn’t want to press charges. So there’s nothing to be done legal wise. The cop says there was a crime committed. Muka says this isn’t the case. Fatma loves Kerim and she’s afraid of Mustafa. The cop wants to hear this directly from Fatma. They tell the cop that Fatma and Kerim will marry and Munir asks if this can be resolved in secret. They are worried if Mustafa will take revenge. Muka says they will leave town. The cops says it will all depend on Fatma’s statement.

How heartbreaking. Little Murat tells Fatma, they cleaned you. My mother said you were dirty and would never be clean again.

Fatma asks about Mustafa. He hasn’t come or called. She cries.

Rifat places a big stack of bills in front of Kerim. He tells him to take it, he won’t go anywhere staying with Galip. We are saving your life. You committed a big sin. Kerim remains silent. Hilmiye comes in and thanks Kerim for what he is doing. She begs him to save her son. She cries. [Ugh!]

Fatmagul #4 part 2

Meryem talks to Galip. He said he didn’t do it, she tells him. I saw the regret in his eyes. He was scared. I can’t believe that he would do something like this. He’s a good boy. I raised him. Galip agrees Kerim wouldn’t do that. Meryem replies he admitted it with his silence. What will happen now? She worries that the people will want to lynch Kerim. Fatma’s fiancé will kill him. Galip thinks the Yasarans will protect Kerim. Meryem blames them for everything and says no one has enough power to fight them. Kerim is trapped. Their only hope is if Fatma tells the truth.

Fatma tries calling Mustafa. He’s at the site of the crime and doesn’t answer. His father comes to take him home. Mustafa tells his dad he wants to see Fatma. Emin talks him out of it saying what’s done is done. She’s no use to anyone. Can you forget this? People will talk. Could you sleep with a woman who they took advantage of? Could you have a child with her and be sure you’re the father? [Horrible!]

Munir comes to coach Fatma regarding her statement. Muka says they will secretly go to the station, and she will say what Munir tells her to say. Fatma tells Munir there were four. M & M shut her down. Maybe she’s remembering it all wrong. Fatma insists and mentions the Yasaran boys.

Munir asks her if she wants to cause problems for Mustafa. He tells her that Mustafa wants to kill her. She doesn’t believe it. He adds that Mustafa will also want revenge against the perp. If you really love Mustafa, you won’t cause him more problems. Keep silent. Your and your family’s lives depend on you. Muka says Kerim has agreed to marry her, she should be grateful. Fatma remembers him. She runs to the bathroom to throw up.

Kerim visits his mother’s grave. He thinks about what Meryem told him . He cries. The Yasarans’ have someone tailing him.

Mustafa sits in the unfinished house. He loses it and breaks tiles and wood and sets the house on fire.

Fatma escapes from the house and runs to see Mustafa. She finds him standing in front of the burning house. Halide and Emin show up. Fatma calls out to Mustafa. He turns to look at her, says nothing and walks away. Halide begs her to leave her son alone and never come back again. She’s ruined everything. Mustafa watches Fatma run away while his parents fill his head with hateful things.

Meryem and Galip show up at Fatma’s house. They are told that Fatma ran away and the police are looking for her.

Fatma goes to the beach where she was attacked. Kerim shows up shortly after. He hears her crying and watches her at a distance. She picks up a piece of broken glass and starts to cut her wrist when Kerim calls out to her and rushes to stop her. She gets hysterical. He tries to calm her. Then Rahmi shows up and Kerim hides and listens. Fatma begs her brother to get her out of there. He notices a small cut on her wrists. She tells her brother she wants to die. Rahmi carries her home.

The police, Munir and Muka show up at Mustafa’s looking for Fatma. The cop warns him not to do anything stupid. He will be arrested if anything happens to Fatma.

The Yasarans’ man tells Kerim they have to go to the dairy farm. He refuses to go and heads off, only to be caught by the police.

Rahmi brings Fatma home and chases everyone away, including Meryem who desperately wants to speak with her. Muka calls Rahmi and he informs her he’s found Fatma and brought her home. M & M separate from their search with the police and hurry home.

Meryem and Galip see Kerim in the police van.

fatmagul #4 part 3

Munir gets a call that Kerim has been taken into custody. He bursts into Fatma’s room and yells at her. You’re getting married! You have no rights! You are going to the police station and telling them what I told you! Muka and Munir take turns badgering Fatma. Munir says, do what’s best for everyone, do what I told you. Do you see the people outside? This is fun for them. They will create rumors.

Fatma sees a van arrive and she runs from the house. Everyone follows. The people have come on Halide’s behalf to let them know that the engagement is off. She is returning the presents they sent. Muka tells Fatma to give back the ring. Muka says they will return the rest of the presents as well. But the woman says all Halide wanted was the ring. Fatma runs back into the house and cries.

Muka tells Fatma this is what’s going to happen and will happen for the rest of your life. Munir says, there is only one thing to do… marry and save your honor.

Mustafa is at a café with his friend. He’s drinking to forget but he thinks back to happier times with Fatma. The friend gets a call from the captain telling him they caught the guy but don’t say anything to Mustafa. You have to keep him from hearing the news.

And we are out.

Fatmagul

Dondi, thank you. You caught every horrifying detail . Watching Muka and Munir browbeat poor, traumatized Fatmagul is excruciating . These two are a pair of kindred spirits . Meanwhile the rich families scheme and plot to protect their sons. Ugh . Rami is trying to help and protect his sister as much as he can, but he is no match for the tag team of Munir and Muka. They are like Mack trucks .

Kerim is guiltridden , confused, and devastated . Engin's portrayal of a tortured soul is amazing.

Mustafa 's parents are blaming Fatmagul for ruining their son's life with no thought for Fatmagul's pain and trauma. I wonder if their reaction would have been any different if Mustafa had a sister. I dated a guy who was an only child . His parents thought he hung the moon ...and I did , too...for awhile until I got to really know him. Dodged that bullet. ?
