Since no one has said they'd do a recap, I'm assuming it's OK if I just post a few random observations and questions. Not a recap or a mini-cap, just a few thoughts about today's (Monday's) 2-hour episode. I guess it's episode #6 this time around.

One thing that surprised/puzzled me was Kerim's leaving on the bed the envelope that apparently contained all the money Munir gave him. Even when Kerim left the room, the envelope remained on the bed. I half expected Fatmagül to take it and leave, but she didn't. She does eventually leave the hotel briefly, and it's possible she even leaves the door to the room somewhat open when she leaves (it's still somewhat open when she returns). Amazingly, no one has come into the room even though the door was open, and the money remains on the bed all this time.

When Fatmagül goes out of the hotel, she has a noticeable limp. I think she hurt her ankle, but I don't remember. She wraps a sheet or towel around the lower part of her leg, including the ankle, but what does doing that accomplish? It looks too loose to offer much support.

One of the more interesting things in this episode is that the local newspaper reports the rape and mentions one or both of the Yararans as involved. Meltem and her family see the article and are understandably upset. Her father, Turaner, calls Selim's father to ask about this. Meanwhile, Meltem calls Selim. He tries to assure her that it's all a pack of lies. She keeps asking questions, and he finally tells her that if she doesn't trust him, they should end their engagement. I think he goes so far as to say "It's over!" and hangs up. His father has heard his end of the conversation and applauds Selim's convincing performance. Yikes!

The rotten ricos' plan seems to be falling apart (though I doubt it will--it's too early in the dizi). Not only has the newspaper offered a front-page account, the story is also circulating on the Internet. Erdogan tells Selim that Vural is now saying that Kerim didn't rape Fatmagül. He says Kerim was there, but she had passed out and Kerim just looked at her. Selim quickly responds, "That's a lie!" Interestingly, Erdogan replies, "I don't know."

One the things I found most upsetting about this episode was how almost everyone in the town turned on Meryem. They want nothing more to do with her, they won't buy items from her any more, they tell her to leave town, the owner of the house she lives in puts it up for sale, etc. It's really hard to believe that people who knew her for years and valued her suddenly reject her. Only Galip remains supportive. (And IIRC it was Galip who put the newspaper reporter onto the story.) (I also learned that linchar is the Spanish word for "to lynch." Meryem says that the townspeople "almost lynched me.")

While I'm mentioning Spanish, I should mention that I was surprised that the hotel employee who came to provide fresh towels addressed Fatmagül as Señorita, even though she went on to say that "su esposo had left these things for you." Isn't a married woman always called Señora?

Well, I hope these rambling remarks will get some discussion started.

Fatmagul #6 part 1

Thanks for starting us off, Juanita. I can supply some other details. I condensed and combined scenes.

Mustafa’s mother gets so upset she faints and is hospitalized. She begs Mustafa to drop the revenge. He says he can’t. His father says, he won’t listen, it’s not worth it. Let him ruin his life.

Kerim and Fatmagul arrive in Istanbul. At the hotel, Fatma wants a separate room but there’s only one room available. This raises the eyebrow of the clerk Kerim takes her out in the hallway to explain he must keep an eye on her. Her response is “Allah kahretsin” (you can look that up) and he answers “Amen”.

It bothers me that they have Kerim call Meryem “mama”, when in the original, he calls her “abla” (older sister).

Kerim goes out to buy a charger for his phone. He takes some things out of the mini fridge and leaves them out for Fatma. [Yeah, Juanita, I wondered about the money that was left out on the bed, too.]

We see Erdogan at work. He’s eyeing the employee who is having an affair with Resat.

Kerim calls Erdogan and they set up a meeting for that night on the Yasaran yacht. Kerim says every time he looks at the girl, he remembers that damn night. Vural comments he remembers the girl had beautiful eyes. Kerim attacks him and the others pull him off. Kerim says he hates himself and hates all of them and he never wants to see any of them again. He leaves.

A very shaken Vural says he hasn’t been able to sleep. Erdogan says he can’t either. He hears the girl’s screams. It’s like a horror movie. Selim says he hasn’t been able to sleep with Meltem. Erdogan tells them this will pass. Vural asks and what about Kerim? Erdo says he will get used to it. They will fall in love and have children.

Fatma thinks back to her engagement ceremony. Such a happy time. Halide puts a thin gold bracelet on Fatma. [Ha, that’s the one Muka complained about when returning the gifts. That’s nothing like the showers of gold we see when the people are rich.]

Fatma sneaks out. It did look like Fatma was limping, I don’t recall if she hurt it before but she might have been taking hesitant steps. In the original, she became overwhelmed by the crowd, the lights, the noise and the camera began to spin around her. Fatma hurried back to the room.

Selim leaves the yacht and Vural makes the stunning confession to Erdogan: Kerim didn’t rape Fatmagul. She had passed out and he just knelt beside her and looked at her. We see this in the flash back. Erdo warns Vural not to let Kerim know.

Muka and family make a quick getaway in the middle of the night.

A hospital employee approaches Mustafa and tells him that something strange is going on with what happened to Fatma. The Yasarans’ lawyer was here talking to everyone, and they say the Yasaran sons are involved.

The next morning Resat gets a call from Turaner. He is livid. He heard about the headline in the local paper. Meltem walks in as Turaner says Selim’s name was mentioned along with the rape. Resat says it’s slander.

Meltem is devastated. She calls Selim and asks him if it was that girl (Fatmagul). She remembers Muka showing up. Juanita mentioned Selim’s “performance”.

Fatma wakes in a chair to see Kerim sleeping on the bed. She also sees his pocket knife. She takes the opportunity to use it. They edited this. Kerim wakes up just in time and there is a brief struggle. He gets the knife from her, but she stumbles back and hurts her ankle.

Mustafa sneaks into Munir’s bedroom and chokes him awake. He wants to know everything. Munir gives him the BS story. Mustafa doesn’t want to believe it. Munir insists the newspaper story is slander.

Resat calls Munir and he tells Resat that Mustafa showed up and was violent. He also intends find out who is responsible for the newspaper article.

dondi356

Fatmagul #6 part 2

Munir tries his best to talk Mustafa out of seeking revenge on the Yasarans. They are too powerful for him to fight. Forget about Fatmagul and stay out of trouble.

Resat is apoplectic. Selim admits they met with Kerim and that Erdogan set it up. Resat tells Selim to call Erdogan over immediately.

Kerim asks Fatma if he did anything to her. His memory is very blurry and he doesn’t remember. She tells him to shut up. He says her name and she starts shouting, don’t say my name! She keeps shouting at him as he keeps trying to proclaim his innocence. There is a knock at the door and Kerim gets a call from Muka at the same time. The hotel clerk asks them to keep quiet, the other guests are complaining.

Muka tells Kerim that they should arrive in Istanbul tonight.

Meryem finds out that the whole neighborhood has turned against her. Juanita explained this very well. ITA, it was upsetting to watch.

Kerim asks Fatma how her ankle is. He wants to take her to a doctor. She remains silent. He asks her to come to breakfast and says they should buy some clothes. She spits in his direction. He leaves.

Meryem goes to see Galip. There are a few men there and they tell Meryem that they won’t forget what Kerim did. He better not come back, and she should leave, too. They are all supporting Mustafa.

Vural goes with his dad to get his visa for England.

Kerim goes shopping and buys some things for Fatma, including undergarments.

Erdogan tries to contact Kerim but he doesn’t answer his calls. He sends Kerim a text, “the case is in the papers and on the internet. We have to talk.”

Meryem notices that the Ketenci’s house and business have for sale signs up. A neighbor tells her they escaped in the middle of the night.

Munir and the journalist argue while they wait at the courthouse. Munir demands a published apology. He threatens to have the paper shut down and he will sue.

Juanita, the hotel employee who brought the bag addressed Fatma as “hanimefendi” which translates to “madam”. Señorita is a bad translation. Fatma is upset to see the undergarments in the bag and throws it aside. She goes to the bathroom to wash out her clothes in the sink.

Kerim and Erdogan meet in a café. Erdo fills him in. Kerim says he doesn’t care anymore. Erdo reminds him that everyone will find out he had an arranged marriage and took money. If this gets out to the national papers, even Munir can’t stop it. They will end up in prison. And you know what they do to rapists in prison…

Erdo asks who could have spoken to the reporter. Ebe Nine? Kerim thinks no but mentions Galip. He’s friends with the journalist. When Kerim sees Erdo’s reaction, he steps it back. Maybe it wasn’t Galip, maybe it was someone else. There are many who suspect. Erdo warns Kerim they must be careful and don’t say anything if they contact you.

Vural calls Kerim and Erdo panics. Don’t answer it, he says. Kerim wasn’t going to answer and gets up to leave. Erdo tails him back to the hotel. Vural tries calling Kerim again, but he doesn’t answer.

Galip closes shop for the night. He calls Meryem. Meryem is packing Kerim’s belongings in case he wants them. Galip says he has a contact in Istanbul who will help Kerim. He only told him what was necessary. Meryem takes the number down and puts it on her phone. She thanks Galip and places the pics on Kerim’s wall in the suitcase.

Mustafa’s friend, Serdar, tries to talk him out of revenge mode. He tells him it will be difficult to move on if he stays here. He’s a good sailor so he should be able to find work anywhere. Maybe he can find something that will take him out to sea for a couple of months. He can travel and see the world. It’s the best way to forget. Mustafa considers it. He takes the bandana out of his pocket and sniffs it.

And we are out of the episode.

Fatmagul

Hi, Juanita, I am fearful of dropping spoilers . Can you tell me the last scene in yesterday's episode .

Yes, everything started hitting the fan yesterday . Galip's friend published that story and Munir and Yaserans are furiosa. Meltem thinks it is true and meets with Slippery Selim who swears it is his father's business rivals slandering the family . Selim evidently thinks that the best offense is going on the defense . He yells at her that he has never lied to her ( pffttt) and she Durant trust him. Well, Meltem must have spider sense because she definitely thinks the story is true. She tells Selim that her friends are all gossiping about her and saying where there is smoke there is fire.

I know why Fatmaguls ankle is wrapped , but I want to be sure I don't spoil. What did you see before you noticed the wrapped ankle ?

This show rolls forward at a fast pace.

Fatmagul

Dondi, after I commented, I saw your recap. Thank you . More later .

Fatmagul #6 (Monday)

It didn't surprise me that Kerim left the money on the bed and I half expected Fatma to take it too, but it didn't surprise me that she didn't either. That money is almost the equivalent of blood money it's clear neither of them is all that comfortable with having it. I bet Kerim would be somewhat relieved if it was stolen he didn't want to take it in the first place.

One thing I will mention is Kerim did lock the door when he left and that door locked from the outside, so he locked Fatma in the room. She wasn't able to leave until the maid came and opened the door and then left it unlocked since she was there. And when she first left I thought, good for her but then I quickly changed my mind. That young, innocent girl doesn't need to be alone in those streets with no money and not even a change of clothes. I did clock that when she was first walking up the street there was a group of 4 men (probably friends or brothers) walking right behind her, looking at her. It was an interesting contrast but they left her alone. I wasn't surprised she went back to the room, better the 'devil' that you know and the chance to see your brother than who knows what fate.

I think Fatma hurt her leg when fighting with Kerim briefly when she tried to stab him, but like Dondi said that scene was cut. I watched that part three times yesterday trying to determine what I'd missed and then I finally went and searched YouTube and found a video with the missing scene as I figured something got cut since we've discussed scenes cut in earlier episodes. Interesting choice for a cut, I would think you'd want as much of the protagonist scenes intact as possible.

I agree the townspeople turning on Meryem was horrible, but I gotta admit I am hoping this means she'll flee to Fatma and Kerim as well. Fatma needs her and I think she's probably the only character in this whole mess who can and will help Fatma. Kerim might try, but he won't be able to connect, at least not now.

Meltem should run run run for the hills but I doubt she will.

Thank you Dondi, for sharing the recap with us! It is invaluable especially if they are going to cut scenes and translate words incorrectly. It's such a help to know what is being lost in translation. When I was searching Youtube yesterday I found some clips dubbed in English - that was laughable, they weren't even pronouncing the character names correctly.

Fatmagul #6

Susanlynn, I’m afraid dropping spoilers, too. But I’m able to compare both versions. It’s hard when new viewers ask questions because we know all the answers!

Thanks for your great comments, Darcy. You make a good point about the tainted money.
Kerim doesn’t want it, but he’s forced to use it right now for the basic food, shelter and clothing. I had worried that Fatma would try to dispose of it. I thought he should have been more careful with it.

Really ticked that Uni cut the attempted stabbing. It was such a short scene and I agree, we need to see Fatmagul and Kerim scenes intact. Even if there is no dialog, the expressions tell us a lot.

Bad translations are bothersome. That’s why I prefer to watch the original Turkish. OMG, the English dubbed eps & clips are horrible. It’s monotone, like they are reading directly off a page for the first time. The mispronunciation of names is offensive. BTW, some names are mispronounced in the Spanish, but it’s not as egregious as the English.

fatmagul

Thanks very much, dondi356, for your very helpful recap. Had I known you were going to do one, I'd have held off in commenting, since the usual practice is to wait until the recapper posts. I don't know how you feel about this. I think it makes best sense when there is a regular schedule of recaps. In the current situation, I'm not so sure. I'm immensely grateful for everything you contribute to this discussion. The last thing I'd want to do is put pressure on you to hurry up with a recap or to hurry up deciding whether you want to do a recap. What are your thoughts/preferences about this?

As for your recap itself, thanks very much for "Allah kahretsin" :-). And thanks, too, for letting us know that the scene where Fatmagül holds the knife was mostly cut. It's astonishing that they'd cut such an important scene. And thanks, too, for explaining where the Spanish dubbing and captioning was simply wrong.

So how does Mustafa sneak into Munir's bedroom? I don't remember whether Munir was asleep in his house or in a hotel, but in either case, wouldn't he have locked the door?

Finally, now that Erdo has trailed Kerim back to the hotel, he and the others know where Kerim and Fatmagül are staying. That makes me uneasy.

Again, many thanks!

fatmagul

Thanks, Darcy, for your helpful remarks. I think I eventually realized that Kerim had locked the door, since Fatmagül pretty quickly took advantage of the maid's coming to escape. And I agree with what you said about "better the devil you know and the chance to see your brother than who knows what fate." Well put. And, like you, I am hoping that there's a bright side to the cruel shunning Meryem experiences, namely, that it may drive her to go to Istanbul and give support to both Fatmagül and Kerim.

Fatmagul
Dondi, that was a great recap.

Yes , Fatmagul , falls backward when Kerim sudden!y wakes up and sees her holding his penknife and grabs her arm. He tries to help her up and wants to take her to the doctor , but she grabs the glass from the bed side table and says "back off" or she will kill him . Kerim wants to convince her that he didn't rape her ,but admits he is still guilty because be didn't stop the others.

Fatmagul

I find it interesting that each of the rotten ricos feels guilty to some degree or another. It's not how you normally see rapists portrayed. Granted they were drugged out of their minds when they did it and may not have done it sober but I still think there is a part of their own nature involved in it. A man incapable of doing something like that (Kerim) wouldn't do it even drugged out of his mind. While the others were capable of it clearly....yet they feel guilty, or maybe just scared of getting caught?

fatmagul

Thank you so much, dondi, for your fantastic contributions to the discussion. As Juanita said, we don't have a schedule of recappers as we did for Hercai, and I don't want you to feel burdened with daily recaps.

I posted something about Friday's episode on Sunday. Last night was a full night on the couch! It was my day to appear in person at the office. Then I watched the Warriors trounce the Atlanta Hawks last night, Steph Curry putting up 50 points! And then I watched Fatmagul. I don't want to fall behind because we have very interesting comments/mini-caps. I risk being very repetitive by again saying two hours a day is awful for me.

I thought those guys behind Fatmagul when she left the hotel were scary. Although they never made any outward moves toward her, they did keep pace. The scene was very ambiguous; they could have been completely innocent with no intent toward her at all.

Erdogan is the main villain of the younger guys. He doesn't want Kemir to have the solace of knowing for sure that he did not rape Fatmagul. And ITA about his knowing where they are staying being disturbing.

So Mustafa trashed Meryam's house and raged at her but he backs right down when Munir starts dripping lies into his ear. If I never see another Munir scene again it will be too soon. I am heartily sick of the guy throwing his weight around.

I was terrified when Gulip was standing outside by his car. Munir and Resat now know he started the newspaper story.

Fatmagul

I got a kick out Kerim " guy shopping " = Pushing the cart unenthusiastically , picking an item up ( toothpaste? Toothbrushes?) Looking at them and then throwing them into the cart . He looks at the camisoles and debates whether or not to get some but finally throws several into the cart . He was disappointed when he saw later that Fatma did not take them. When she spit at him later, he was pissed and said " That's it !!! And left. Outside the room, he started to last to the Dior but then didnt. Heartbreaking episode as Fatmagul is so upset , and Kerim is feeling guilty . He feels ashamed and feels responsible for Fatma. He tries to get her to eat when she wont go out with him by setting water and snacks from the frig out on a table for her .

Fatmagul
Sorry..hurrying , .... he started to lock the door but then decided not to.

Fatmagul

Juanita, don’t feel bad about getting the conversation started, and I hope you don’t feel like I stepped on your comments. This is such a great show, and it stars a couple of my favorite actors (Engin Akyürek and Beren Saat), so I want everyone to enjoy watching just like I did. It’s wonderful to watch with others and read the comments.

As you said, we have no schedule. ITA that it’s best when we have one, but it’s not easy with a daytime show. I’m sure most of us cannot watch live and take time to recap during a busy day. I can’t even commit to a schedule or time frame for a daily recap. I’ll do what I can if the patio thinks it's helpful. I’ve been putting the episode number in my mini-caps and related comments thinking that may help somewhat. I’m all for any suggestions to minimize confusion and keep the conversation going.

dondi356

Fatmagul #6

Juanita, the Mustafa – Munir scene was the same in the Turkish. I don’t know how he managed to get in, but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

ITA Darcy, it is interesting that the rotten ricos seem to be suffering from some sort of PTSD. I think you are spot on with your assessment about this reflecting their natures. And they are also worried about getting caught. There’s so much for them to lose. As we see, the rape already has far reaching consequences.

Erdogan doesn’t want Kerim to know the truth because he’s worried Kerim will squeal if he finds out he’s not a rapist. Remember what he said to Kerim—you know what they do to rapists in prison. Erdo needs to worry about Vural, too.

dondi356

Fatmagul

I hate the untimely cutting of scenes. I think Fatma wielding the knife, contemplating the stabbing was important and as someone said, it was short.

As far as her returning to the hotel, remember...she' a country girl who's probably never been out of her village. She didn't know how to use the seat belt on the plane. She was for sure over whelmed by the city, the people... and everything else. Not surprised that she decided to return. Plus she knew her brother was in route.

I don't believe this is a spoiler..but someone commented on Kerim calling Ebe nine mother vs sister in the original. In the original, during the first season, he does refer to her as mother...at least in spanish version the 1st time I watched. But during the 2nd season, she's called sister by Kerim. Perhaps Dondi can confirm....was this just a switch in translation from one season to the next....or in the turk version....he does switch how he addresses her. I remember raising that switch myself.

Nett

Fatmagul

Nett, in the first episode , both Resat and Vural refer to Meryem as Ebe Nine. She tells some women clients that her mother was a healer and the villagers called her Ebe Nine, and when her mother died , they started calling her that name. Then, Kerim arrives and calls her Meryem .

Fatmagul

In the Turkish version, Kerim always calls Meryem "abla" or "Meryem abla". He never calls her "anne" (mother). Others call Meryem "Ebe Nine" but not Kerim. No idea why the Spanish translates abla as mama instead of hermana. Even tia would fit better than mama.

OT

I just saw a promo on Telemundo that Hercai is returning November 17 at 9 pm! Did anyone else see that? Are they dumping Parientes so quickly?

Fatmagul #7

Condensed and combined. Most of this dialog is from the Turkish episode.

Muka calls Kerim. She’s reached Istanbul but doesn’t know where to go. Fatma wants the phone to talk to Rahmi and she faints because she hasn’t eaten since the day before. Kerim panics and tries to wake her without touching her. He splashes some water on her and then has the memory of the rotten ricos dousing her with alcohol. He backs off. She comes to and is very uspet to see Kerim standing over her.

Muka calls again and Kerim says he will get directions. Fatma cries. Kerim tells her he’s leaving to help her family and tells her to eat something. She eats after he leaves.

Damage control time: Selim tries to get Meltem to believe this is all slander. She says there was something strange about you three that night and Fatmagul’s SIL came to the house. She has been shamed in front of her friends. Selim keeps denying. Meltem thinks that even if it’s refuted the questions will remain. Selim finally has enough and blows up, don’t you trust me? Do you think I could do this? Everyone knows this is a set up by my father’s enemies.

Meanwhile Resat waits for Turaner. Ender says their phone has been ringing all day. Turaner arrives and Resat apologizes. Turaner says it’s too late, it’s already in the big newspapers. He hands a paper to Resat: “Rape accusation against the Yasarans.”

Galip drives home and realizes that someone is following him. He gets nervous, starts to speed up and loses control of the car. It tumbles down an embankment. The car that was following him stops and a middle aged married couple get out to help. They call an ambulance.

Leman is out on the balcony and calls Munir. She misses him. He tells her he’s been busy cleaning up the rotten ricos’ mess and now he has to deal with Mustafa. Vural’s demons have been after him and he gets up and goes outside for some air. He sees his mom. Not sure if he heard what she said. She sees Vural and tells him she was talking to grandma.

Fatma’s family arrives. She is thrilled to see her brother and nephew. Not so eager to see Mukaddes. Kerim gets a room for them while they go upstairs. Muka complains about the hotel. She gets to Fatma’s room and notes there is only one bed. Fatma gets upset at her insinuation. This does not deter Muka. She says, well he is your husband, the damage is done, and you should try to get along with him.

Rahmi tells her to shut up. Muka continues, we left the town because of her now she wants me to shut up? Kerim walks in on this. He gives Muka the keys to her room. Fatma wants to stay with them and Rahmi says alright.

Muka confronts Kerim. He tells her Fatma is all theirs now. No way, she replies, you are leaving us? Kerim doesn’t answer and Muka piles it on. Are you going to leave us in this big city? I left everything because of you. What am I going to do in Istanbul with a little kid and a half-witted man? And the girl, too. What did I do to deserve this? I told you a signature wouldn’t be enough. At least help us settle and then you can go your own way. Kerim is disgusted and walks back to his room without a word.

Meryem gets the phone call that Galip died in a car accident. She goes to the hospital. She thinks that the Yasarans set this up. She overhears the couple from the other car tell the police what happened. Meryem doesn’t believe it. She insists that this must be Yasaran dirty work. The cop thinks it was just an unfortunate accident and gives Meryem his condolences.

Meryem attends Galip’s funeral and hears the gossips say Galip probably had a stroke while driving. He couldn’t look anyone in the eye after what the boy did. He loved the boy like his own and he was let down.

dondi356

fatmagul #7 part 2

Munir gets in his car to leave for Istanbul. Mustafa appears before him. He yells at Mustafa he’s not scared of him but if this continues he will call the Jandarma. What do you want from me, he asks? Mustafa stands in stony silence. Munir notices he has his hand in his pocket. A weapon? Munir gets scared and backs up as Mustafa approaches. Mustafa finally speaks, I want a job. If Resat Yasaran is so great, he can give me a job. I’ll work for him.

The family is out running errands. Fatma has seen a doctor and Muka and Kerim were at the bank. Hey there’s Sponge Bob and Patrick! When they come near Murat, Rahmi freaks and pushes them away. The big city is overwhelming for him. Muka wants Kerim to show them around the city. He reminds her they are not here as tourists. She nags until she gets her way.

Mustafa has his bag packed and bids his parents goodbye. He’s taking a bus to Istanbul. They are sad to see him go but they realize it’s for the best. Hopefully he will stay out of trouble [yeah, right]. Halide throws water after the car as he drives off. This is so the trip will be smooth as water and her son will soon return happy and healthy.

Munir explains to everyone that Mustafa is coming to work for them. It’s less dangerous to have him close by. Besides, they plan to send him to the Balkans to work. They won’t be seeing him around Istanbul very much. Rifat has doubts about this working out and Rifat takes the opportunity to insult him as a do nothing.

Muka continues to nag at Kerim to stay and help them. You ruined our lives and now you will throw us aside? Keep your promise or I will break mine. She threatens to reopen the rape case. [I don’t know how Kerim manages to keep his mouth shut.]

Meryem calls Kerim. He can sense she’s upset. It seems she starts to tell him about Galip and then she says Galip gave her the number of someone who can help us in Istanbul. Us, Kerim asks? Yep, Meryem tells him she’s coming to Istanbul. [Yay!]

Fatma wants to know why Kerim is still with them. Muka makes her case. They can’t make it on their own yet. They have to sell the business, etc. Kerim comes back to the table and Muka asks him who he was speaking to. He tells them that Meryem is coming to Istanbul and Galip has a friend here who will help them settle in. Kerim wants to go to talk to the man alone, but Muka doesn’t trust him. She says they all have to stick together. Fatma is not happy.

They cut a scene. The bus makes a rest stop and Mustafa hears another passenger, a woman, talking on the phone to someone. She’s upset. Something happened and she had to return to Istanbul. Mustafa follows her and sits at a table near hers and watches her.

Resat asks Munir to go see Perihan. She’s not doing well. Munir calls Leman to postpone their assignation. Leman is not pleased. Someone might have overheard, I think it’s Resat’s mistress.

Vural has been sitting around drinking and blasting music. Leman rips into him.

Erdogan stops Resat’s mistress [we find out her name is Belgin] in the hall and asks her to join him in the lunchroom so they can talk about the Romanian business. She says later. Selim calls him out on flirting with Belgin.

Belgin goes to Resat and complains that he’s been distant and asks what’s going on. [doesn’t this girl read the newspapers?] Resat says it’s family matters. She complains that he is letting his family matters destroy their relationship [lol!] He forgot her birthday! Resat tries to placate her. He tells her he never made a promise he couldn’t keep. He also says that Perihan is not only his wife…but everything he has he owes to her. He can’t turn his back on her. He asks Belgin to be patient.
Belgin leaves Resat’s office upset and Erdo notices.

Mustafa checks in with Munir. The woman passenger overhears.

fatmagul #7 part 3

Fatma thinks back to Mustafa telling her they will do their wedding shopping in Istanbul, and he will take her there for their honeymoon.

The woman who Mustafa overheard at the rest stop comes and sits next to him. She says her other seat was uncomfortable. Can I sit here, she asks? She starts making small talk. Her name is Asu. Mustafa is uncomfortable.

Kerim and crew meet with Galip’s friend, Erol, at his restaurant. They find out from Erol that Galip died in a car accident. Kerim is devastated and leaves the table to call Meryem. Erol tells the others he worked with Galip in Germany. He was a very good man. He tells them now Fatma and Kerim are his. Galip left them to his care. That makes Muka very happy.

Munir comes to see Perihan. She hasn’t even gotten out of bed. She’s depressed. Munir tries to assure her it’s under control. But she says she can never forgive Selim. He was the only thing that belonged to me in the house, she says. The only thing that made me proud. My son destroyed that girl’s life. He destroyed the lives of many. She sobs. Munir says life goes on. The girl is not complaining. They have their money. Their lives have been saved.

Lehman shows up at Perihan’s! Perihan asks Yadigar to send her away. Munir tells Leman that Perihan is in bad shape. They leave. Outside, Munir gets angry at Lehman for checking up on him. She complains that she needs him too. Perihan watches them from her window.

Meltem calls Selim. She got his messages. He asks her if she’s coming to Istanbul. She doesn’t want to come. Her parents are nervous about the situation. He tells her then he will go to Ankara. She tells him don’t come. He wants to hurry things up and get married before the summer. She says she can’t tell her parents that. Selim lays it on thick. I love you, I don’t want to lose you. He talks her into coming. He says he’s buying her a ticket for tonight.

Ibrahim meets everyone at Erol’s restaurant. Erol tells him that Kerim and Fatma and family are looking for a house to rent. Erol even negotiates a better price for them. They thank Erol and leave to see the house.

Mustafa is on the ferry and Asu brings him a coffee. She asks him what he is going to do in Istanbul. She heard him say he has no one here. She tells him he can stay with her if he wants. She has a room available. Until he finds a place to live he can stay with her if he wants. Mustafa asks her aren’t you afraid to invite a man you just met into your home? She laughs, you’re not the type of man who could be bad. She can tell. When she first came to Istanbul, she was also scared, sad and shy like him. Is it because of a girl? Did she leave you? Cheat? Her father didn’t want you together? Mustafa doesn’t answer.

Muka complains about the house they see but Kerim tells Ibrahim they will take it. He will make the repairs it needs. Muka complains that it’s too small for everyone. Kerim says he will stay in the shed that’s on the property.

Mustafa arrives at the final stop. Asu asks if he’s coming with her. He says no and she won’t insist. She gives him her card in case he ever needs anything.

Meryem arrives in Istanbul. She’s in a taxi with Kerim. She explains that she thought the Yasarans were behind the car accident because it happened right after the article was published. But now she knows it was just an accident. She adds that some were saying sadness got to him. She had to get away from all the talk. Kerim tells her he’s glad she came. He asks her how long she will stay. Meryem answers, once he gets settled, she will go back and find a new place to live. She asks if he has seen the rotten ricos. He lies and says no.

fatmagul #7 part 4

Selim is on his way to the airport to pick up Meltem. Resat calls him and tells him he will be home late, he’s having dinner with someone. Erdo enters Resat’s office. Resat disses him. On his way out, Resat asks Erdo to work on the Romania deal. Erdo thinks this is his chance to get Belgin but little does he realize that Resat has a dinner date with Belgin.

Muka gets a call from someone telling her Mustafa is coming to Istanbul. Muka is worried he will find them and kill them. She says, we can’t leave Kerim now. It’s too dangerous. Pray that Mustafa doesn’t find us.

Meltem doesn’t look too happy to be with Selim. They start to argue again. He stops the car. They come to a truce. They kiss.

Erdogan shows up at Belgin’s building with pizza and the Romania files. He goes up to her apartment and rings the bell. She’s very surprised. She’s dressed up and he asks if she has a guest or is she going out. She’s going out. He realizes that he should have called. But he was worried when she left early, maybe she was sick. No, she says a friend is in from London and she’s going out with her. She says they can go over the files together tomorrow morning. Erdo leaves.

Belgin goes back into the apartment, and we see Resat there. He wants to know what Erdogan was doing here. She has no idea.

Erdogan walks down the street calling himself an idiot. Then he suddenly stops.

And we are out.

Wow, many thanks, dondi356, for another excellent recap. You bring so much more than I can get from just watching the episode. For example, I had no idea why Mustafa's mother threw water after the car. Thanks for explaining what that meant.

I think Vural did hear the key part of his mother's phone conversation with Munir. He was outside and within earshot when she was talking, and at the end of her conversation she said (at least in Spanish), Te amo mucho, Munir. So if Vural did hear her, he not only knows she is lying when she claims she was talking to his grandmother, but also that she and Munir....

I don't know what to make of Asu! Playing hard-to-get is apparently not part of her repertoire. At one point I wondered whether she was a spy for the Yasarans. It's true that Mustafa turns her down when she offers to let him stay with her until he finds a place, but IIRC the last we see of him in this episode shows him taking out the card she gave him and looking at it. I doubt he or we have seen the last of her.

BTW, I haven't watched Telemundo at all since I started to watch Fatmagül, so I didn't see any announcement about Hercai returning so soon. I don't think I've ever seen Telemundo cancel a novela after just a few weeks, but who knows?

fatmagul #7

Thanks for you comments, Juanita.

I left out that Asu's business card said she is a masseuse. Draw your own conclusions. And the waiter at the restaurant where Mustafa ate noticed the card and said he collects them. I wasn't sure if the waiter took the card.

Even though I've watched this dizi before, it's been a while and I can't remember some of the details.

Fatmagul

Dondi, thank you for another terrific recounting as this tale of trauma and drama races on.

As if things haven't been strained enough between Fatmagul and Kerim alone in that small room...here comes meanspirited, malignant Muk . She doesn't wait a minute and immediately brings up the one double bed and blames Kerim and Poor , traumatized Fatmagul for her having to move. With Muk , it is all about Me me me . I think that as Kerim is carrying her big suitcase down the hall , she tells him that if he doesnt stay and at least get them settled , she would reopen the case . At that point , Kerim gives a look of pure disgust puts down the suitcase, and walks away from her . Wow, those eyes, that face convey a thousand words. After been raised by honest , empathetic , kind Meryem, I don't think Kerim is used to dealing with someone like Muk .

Fatmagul

My tablet keeps changing "Fatmagul" to "Fat magic."

There are so many moving parts to this story and the fallout from the rape has effected so many people.

We have come to see that Mustafa was always a jealous , controlling person , and now he has become a loose canon. Geez, he tries to choke sleeping Munir in his bed , but then Munir weaves his spell of BS ( this guy is a spin doctor extraordinaire ). Mustafa 's next plan,is to ask for a job from the family of the guys who raped his fiance. I am confused . At this point, does Mustafa still believe the story that Kerim is the only one who raped Fatmagul ? He saw Kerim talking to her at the party and gave him the stink eye. Or does Mustafa Realize now that the 3 rotten ricos are the rapists? If so, how can he ask those families for a job.

Also, Mustafa seemed taken aback by Asu approaching him . Maybe he was as innocent as Fatmagul. Several scenes showed him trying to lift fatmagul's dress or touch her , and she always stopped him.

Fatmagul

I loved the scene with Mustafa and Munir where Mustafa was just standing stoically in the street and Munir got more and more rattled by him just standing there silently. That was very powerfully shot I thought and demonstrating that at this point just about everything and anything can be threatening to those who are scrambling to cover up the horrible truth and save their hides. I am one of those who has never seen this before so this is a pure guess and not a spoiler but I was thinking Mustafa wants to work for the rotten ricos because he figures they are hiding Fatma and he wants to find her - he figures the job will be a means to an end.

Muk is reprehensible! Her manner is even slightly flirtatious with Kerim and I really can't understand this, she does absolutely believe Kerim raped Fatma at this point, right? As bad as it is I understand there are people in this world who are cold, heartless, cruel, etc etc etc...but would you look longingly on a rapist??? And that comment about the one bed, does she honestly believe that Fatma would choose to have sex with Kerim willingly just days after she was gang-raped (by others and 'him')?? I mean she might say it just to be a witch even if she didn't believe it, but she seemed to actually believe it. That's crazy. There is something seriously wrong with that woman!!!

I love the character of Rehmi, I think the actor is fabulous in this role! It makes me sad that Fatma didn't have an older brother capable mentally of defending and protecting her but Rehmi is still like a burst of sunshine in an otherwise sunless situation. I love his simple joy and appreciation of everything (except Spongebob) around him.

When I was watching it I thought Gulip's death was provoked and he was being chased but then the people got out of the car and seemed so genuinely freaked out and concerned and I figured it must have been an accident. So maybe what we saw was just Gulip's own paranoia freaking him out and causing the accident?

Speaking of fantastic performances, Kerim finding out about Gulip's death and the devastation of quietly mourning in a mostly hostile environment was heartbreaking and very well done! Even Fatma seemed to feel a little compassion it's pretty much the first time she ever looks at him for an extended period of time.

I am really loving this show! I do wish it was an hour a day and not two but I can see why everyone had so much to say about the production and the acting and everything. I am glad I decided to watch!

fatmagul

dondi356, I meant to respond to your very gracious assurance about my having posted a message before your recap a day or so ago, but I realize I never did respond. I was very happy that you weren't annoyed, and I was delighted with how you referred to some of my comments in your recap. I don't know any good way to deal with the timing issue. Obviously, if you announce that you'll be doing a recap, that lets everyone know they should hold their comments until after you've posted the recap. But that also puts pressure on you to decide ahead of time that you will do a recap, and I think that's not fair to you.

There's one thing I would suggest to you and anyone else doing a recap, namely, indicate how many parts your recap will be. When you post the first of 4 parts (for example), say "1 of 4," "2 of 4," etc. That way, there's less chance of someone thinking you've finished and posting in the middle of your recap. (This doesn't solve the problem I'm referring to in the first paragraph--it's just a more general suggestion that helps people avoid posting in the midst of someone's multi-part recap.)

Fatmagul

I get a kick out of the chairs in Resat's office. They look like thrones.

Wow...Muk seems a master at emasculating men . Rami seems used to it , but Kerim looks shellshocked when she rants and raves about what he " has to " do. Muk is a loudmouth bully.

As for the way Muk looks at Kerim, I think she has a very sexual side, and Kerim is a handsome man. Remember Rami scolding her when she was outside on the deck at their house exposing her bosum to the sunshine? . Also, in the first episode , Fatmagul hears Muk and Rami frolicking in their bedroom next to hers.

fatmagul

I can put a recap up but it will be late tonight or early tomorrow.

dondi356

Fatmagul

Susanlynn - Yes I agree that Muk has a sexual side and Kerim is most definitely a handsome man, but your sister-in-law's rapist? Rape is so violent. Maybe I should just be glad I can't imagine being turned on by a rapist and not ask the question at all....but I have an inquiring mind and I just can't help myself. I can't imagine being in the room with a man who I thought had violently raped my family member and being all 'ohh look at him!' It just seems so disconnected with reality... but what do I know? I am the first to admit I have been blessed to lived a very sheltered life and I have been very fortunate in the fact that the only real violence I've known has been discovered 3rd hand or seen on the TV.

Fatmagul

Darcy, like you , I have lived a pretty sheltered life . I grew up on a farm , and I have been surrounded by mostly good people in my life . I have been loved and protected . However, Muka has a pretty warped view of the world and likes to boss people around , especially her hubby and Her sister in law . She doesn't seem to have a bit of compassion or empathy . She looks at Kerim the way she looks at everyone, as someone who should give her what she wants. She is only interested in herself and what she wants. Luckily, Fatmagul has kind, sweet Rami who loves her completely . Rami's innocent , innate kindness acts as a balance to Muka 's cruelty , bitterness, and greed . The actress portraying Muka has given viewers a great villain .

fatmagul

I think that, knowing Muka's character as we've come to know it, she doesn't care about Fatmagul's rape in the slightest. Her first reaction was self-interest. Knowing these villagers as she does, she thought the dairy would lose business. And she could hardly wait to start berating Fatmagul in the hospital. Figuring out that it would result in a windfall for her, she seemed pleased it had happened.

I think she has a yen for Kerim. Having him around serves two purposes for her: help in getting settled in Istanbul and some eye candy. If she thinks he raped Fatmagul, this is just a "meh" for her. This house that she denigrated so much upon seeing it was because of a contact Kerim had. And I could have screamed when Kerim said he'd fix the place up for them. Take the money and run, Kerim!

Of course, just like HAG in Hercai, Muka is probably not going anywhere. What baffles me is Kerim's inability to tell her to go to hell and take off. The writers, IMHO, have made him so passive so as to keep him near Fatmagul

Fatmagul

Mustafa was both freaked out and intrigued by Asu. She’s nothing like he’s ever seen in the village.

novelera, I agree with your assessment of Muka. In addition, she derives a sick pleasure from being a sh*t stirrer and a begrudger. It’s very frustrating to see Kerim keep his mouth shut when Muka says and does such disgusting things. How I wish he’d tell her to F’off. But this is in his nature. Remember when he shouted at Meryem and she said he never raised his voice to her before? I can’t imagine having such a child. And he was a pushover for the rotten ricos, too. Then there’s the truckload of guilt he’s hauling around.

Fatmagul #8 part 1

Scenes condensed and combined. I’m using some of the Turkish translations.

As Erdogan walks away in defeat from Belgin’s place, he notices a familiar car in a parking garage with sleeping chauffeur inside. He looks at the plate and that confirms it—this is Resat’s car. Erdo does the 2+2 and realizes it equals Resat + Belgin.

Meanwhile, Resat questions Belgin, how does he know your address? Has he been here before? Only once with coworkers on her birthday, she replies. Resat says Erdo is hitting on her. She defends Erdo, he’s only concerned about the Romania deal. He doesn’t want to let you down.

But Belgin worries about Erdo finding out about them. Resat doesn’t care and says, (Turkish) Erdogan needs to clean the dirt under his own shoes first. Then Resat asks Belgin if she has been leading Erdo on. She’s offended. Resat says if anything like that happens, he will kill Erdo and leave her. Take it as a warning. Belgin is upset, was this your way of making it up to me?

Erdo calls Vural who is too busy hugging the porcelain throne. Then he calls Selim who has just arrived home with Meltem. Erdo tells him he’s on his way home. Selim and Meltem duck into a room for some make up sex.

Perihan is still very depressed.

The Ketencis are in their room for the night. Fatma looks out the window and sees Meryem arriving. So does Muka, and she hurries towards the door. Fatma stops her. But Muka can’t be stopped and says, drop the attitude. It’s better to be nice so they won’t leave us alone. Fatma insists they don’t need them (Kerim and Meryem).

Muka opens the door and greets Meryem as she walks by. Meryem returns the greetings and calls out to Fatmagul who just walks into the other room without looking or saying anything. Muka pretends to be nice and asks them if they are hungry. Kerim just walks away. Meryem says no thanks, she ate on the plane.

Meryem asks Kerim what happened to Fatma’s foot. She sprained it, Kerim replies. Meryem wants to look at it, but Kerim stops her. They went to the doctor earlier today. Meryem gets the drift—she should mind her business. Kerim says it wouldn’t be appreciated anyway. She (Fatma) is wild. I wonder why, Meryem says sarcastically.

Resat arrives home and the family is having dinner. Erdo comments, I left the office after you did. Why have you come home so late? Resat blames it on traffic. [in the Turkish, Erdo says I saw your car parked at the restaurant with the chauffeur inside. Resat answers, Really?]

Selim and Meltem share their decision to get married before the summer. They just have to confirm with Meltem’s parents. Erdo asks about Selim’s military service, and he says he’s going to postpone it to study. Perihan excuses herself from the table with a terrible headache.

Erdo excuses himself, too. He looks at Resat and says he has to get an early start, he has business to discuss with Belgin. Uh, oh… the looks they give each other.

Leman and Semsi have dinner at home. She sends a text to Munir, “nerdesin”, where are you? She’s barely paying attention to Semsi. He asks about Vural. She says he hasn’t left his room all day. Semsi goes to see Vural. Leman takes the opportunity to call Munir. No answer.

Semsi finds Vural passed out on the bathroom floor. He shouts for Leman. They can’t wake their son. They call and ambulance.

Fatmagul #8 part 2

Kerim asks Meryem if Galip was the one who went to the newspaper. What good did it do, Meryem replies, they denied it, and no one believed the truth. [in the Turkish, Meryem says the paper was forced to print a retraction] Kerim says it almost made it to the national papers. Meryem wishes it did and it would have caused quite a stir. Kerim says they only took back the false news. Meryem asks if he still sticking to the false story and protecting them.

Kerim gets upset. He says he’s not protecting anyone. Meryem asks for some hope. She knows he didn’t do it, he’s innocent. Say it was those pigs who did it and you didn’t. She can’t believe he could do such a thing. She wonders why he won’t talk or why Fatmagul won’t either. She tells Kerim if he is afraid, she is by his side. She won’t abandon him. He says he is not afraid of anyone. So then, what is it?

It’s the girl… Kerim says, I did something very bad to her. Are you admitting it, Meryem asks? Kerim tearfully replies, I’ll never forgive myself for what I did. No one will forgive you, Meryem says, Fatmagul was right after all. The four of you are pigs. You will have to carry this burden the rest of your life, she tells Kerim.

Kerim says he’s going away. She should go back home. He will help them with the move and then he’s going. What home, Meryem says, the townspeople look at me like I’m an enemy. They told me to leave. They almost lynched me instead of you. And you tell me to go home? We see the despicable Muka listening at their door while Meryem continues to tell Kerim how he ruined her life. Rahmi tries to call Muka back. She shushes him.

Meryem asks him, where will you go? You owe a lot to that girl. You are responsible for the life of that poor girl. You are not going. Do you hear me? Be a man. [in the Turkish she says you will fulfill your responsibilities and I will be here to see to it.] Kerim remains silent.

The family starts the move into the house. Muka talks to Meryem inside and Rahmi and Kerim unload the truck with the belongings. Kerim goes to grab Fatmagul’s dowry chest, and she yells out, don’t touch it! Fatma runs over and struggles to lift it. Muka runs over to help.

Fatma has another flashback to Mustafa building the dowry chest. He tells her it’s for the girl he loves… she’s not looking very happy until he tells her, it’s for you. He intends to bring it when he asks for her hand. He asks her to marry him, and he gives her a peck on the lips.

Mustafa does the intake at Yasaran Holding.

Selim and Erdo arrive at the office. They talk about Vural. His stomach was pumped and they kept him in the hospital for observation. He’s becoming a bigger problem than Kerim, Erdo says.

Erdo runs into Munir as he’s leaving Mustafa. Munir hurries him away—shh… that’s the girl’s novio. Mustafa grabs Munir’s phone and memorizes a number.

Fatma takes Murat down to the river. Meryem shows up and asks, why don’t you want to talk to me? Fatma shouts, go away! You lied to me! Meryem says she didn’t. Fatma thinks Meryem didn’t “find” her looking for herbs. She thinks “he” sent her. Meryem insists it was a coincidence. She always looks for herbs there in the mornings. You’re all bad, Fatma says. Enough, says Meryem, I was on your side from the beginning.

Muka shows up and Fatma tries to make a getaway. Meryem tells her, when I found out he was also involved, it was a great pain for me. Fatma asserts, I suffered the greatest…. me… me! Meryem says Kerim told her he didn’t do it. Fatma shouts, may Allah curse them all! Uh, oh…. Meryem heard it, you said “all”…. there were others, too. [in the Turkish she mentions the Yasarans] Muka says don’t throw Kerim’s dirt on others. Meryem shuts her down.

dondi356

fatmagul #8 part 3

Fatma walks away and Muka says she was referring to Mustafa too, who wants to take revenge. She doesn’t want him to go to prison and that’s why she (Fatmagul) accepted Kerim.

Kerim gets a call from Mustafa (the number he took from Munir’s phone). Are you Kerim, he asks? Yes, that’s me. Mustafa hears Rahmi calling Fatma in the background. Kerim asks, who are you? Mustafa answers, you will pay for all you took from me. I found your phone number and I will find your address, too. I’ll come kill you both. Kerim is looking right at Fatma.

They cut this: Kerim hangs up. Meryem asks who was it? Wrong number, Kerim replies. Mustafa redials and Kerim does not pick up and shuts his phone. Mustafa leaves a very vile message that’s beeped out in Turkish—something he will do to his mother… you get the drift.

Selim and Erdo get nervous over Mustafa’s appearance at the company.

Worried Belgin calls Resat. She thinks Erdo is on to them. He will speak with Erdo and he tells Belgin they need to be careful for a while. Keep a little distance. Report to Rifat for now. Erdo interrupts their phone call. Belgin looks nervous. Erdo says good morning and leaves.

Everyone starts work on the “new” house. Muka tells Kerim, paint our room blue and white, Mustafa. Ooops! She meant to say Kerim. Muka tells everyone where their rooms are. Rahmi says that Meryem should get the better room, she’s an elder. Of course, Muka objects and is disrespectful. Rahmi asks Kerim where he will stay. In the shed, he answers, until I leave. Muka tells Fatma he’s doing that for her so she feels comfortable.

Kerim goes out to the shed and Meryem follows. She tells him Fatma said there was more than one rapist. Kerim gets upset and says, so go to the police, tell them. Tell them who the suspects are and make them take us away! Mustafa is after me anyway. Tell him where I am. Meryem realizes that earlier phone call was from Mustafa.

Muka can’t resist. She goes over to Fatma and says, you are a married couple now, so he has the right to sleep with you. Fatma blows up and pushes Muka. Calm down, I was only kidding, Muka says. [yeah, right] You’ve changed a lot. Fatma shouts, that’s right! I’ve changed! Muka starts in with the it’s all your fault we are here. Fatma says you didn’t have to come.

What should we have done, Muka asks, let you come to Istanbul and become a cualquiera?! If you are smart, you will hold on to that man. You have no other choice. Who will want a woman who was used by four men? Fatma screams and pounds the wall and storms off. Muka continues shouting after Fatma. Rahmi tells Muka to leave his sister alone. Don’t talk to her that way. Muka pretends to get turned on by this and starts grabbing at him. He gets uncomfortable, gets annoyed and tells her to stop. They have work to do. She laughs and goes.

Meryem is worried about Mustafa finding them. She asks Kerim does Munir know where we are? No. She tells Kerim to change his phone number. Fatma has been watching them and when they notice her she walks away.

Munir assures Resat that he will keep Mustafa busy and under control. He will make money and eventually forget about Kerim and Fatma. Munir adds he’s going to buy the Ketenci house and dairy, but not under his name. They need the money so they will accept the offer. Munir feels the dairy is worthless, but the land is valuable.

Resat tells Erdo he wants to talk. Erdo speaks first. You’re nervous, tio. Your relationship with Belgin must be more serious than I thought. You must have almost had a heart attack when I came to the door last night. Resat says don’t speak to me like this. Erdo says, so I’m not the only naughty boy here. Resat goes to deliver a slap but Erdo blocks it. Listen, he tells his uncle, if you ever raise your hand to me again, I will destroy you. Don’t underestimate me, Resat Yasaran.

dondi356

fatmagul #8 part 4

What are you doing, Resat asks? I am threatening you, Erdo replies. If you don’t give me my right, I’ll tell the prosecutor everything. [he says he will tell Turaner in the Spanish] Resat dares him to do it. I cleaned up your mess so you wouldn’t go to prison. Yes, that’s right but Erdo thinks if that’s the only way to destroy him, he will destroy himself, too. I won’t hesitate because I’m just like you, he says. Rifat enters the room and Erdo says they were discussing the Romania deal. And he leaves.

Erdo goes back to Selim and Munir. Selim asks what he was talking about with Resat. Just business. Selim asks Munir if Kerim knows Mustafa is working here. Munir smirks. Erdo asks what if Mustafa finds him? Munir doesn’t seem overly concerned.

The work continues on the house. Fatma throws out some trash and heads over to the shed. She confronts Kerim, you said you were leaving, why haven’t you gone? I’m going, he replies. Go as soon as possible, she tells him. I hate having to see you every day. I know, Kerim answers, but first I will get the house ready. Don’t wait, go now, Fatma says. Kerim throws his broom down and raises his voice, ok, I’m going. He grabs his jacket and walks.

Erdo says he’s going to visit Vural. Munir thinks that’s a good idea. Keep him occupied until he leaves.

Kerim calls Munir. He says they must talk. Munir says he has a trial today. Kerim shouts they have to meet now. They meet and Kerim says he must leave right now. Munir goes over the steps he needs to take, including getting a certificate of residence. Kerim tells him they found a place to live.

Munir says he will do his best because Mustafa is here and he’s after them. Kerim says he knows. Kerim plays that awful message that Mustafa left on his phone. Munir realizes that Mustafa got the number from his phone when he was in the office. Munir tells Kerim that they gave Mustafa a job so they can keep watch on him. Kerim jumps up, are you crazy?! Munir tells Kerim how Mustafa attacked him.

Mustafa starts work in the truck yard. Someone sent by the Yasarans, Ismail, goes over to another employee and tells him to keep a close eye on Mustafa. Keep him busy with work. Don’t let him stay in Istanbul for very long. The employee asks who is this guy? Why is he so important? Ismail says he is someone the bosses know very well. The other guy asks then why did they send him here to work like an animal? Ismail fills him in, back in his hometown, someone raped his fiancée, and the girl married the guy. The bosses gave him the job so he wouldn’t kill the rapist and the girl. Don’t tell anyone.

Meryem tries calling Kerim. He’s not answering, and she’s leaves him a worried message. Muka catches her calling. Meryem thinks Kerim must have changed his number. When Meryem enters the house, Fatma says I hope he’s gone and never comes back.

Muka asks Meryem about her relationship with Kerim. They are not blood related. Why are you so close? Meryem says she raised him from when he was small. Doesn’t he have anyone else, Muka asks? He had a dad, he went to Australia, I wouldn’t even remember his face. Kerim has no one else but me. Muka pokes some more, how did his mother die? Illness? Accident? Meryem gets sad and answers, she killed herself. Fatma has been listening and she takes note.

Rahmi comes in and interrupts. Meryem closes the door to her room. Muka wants to continue the convo with her but Fatma says don’t talk to her, I don’t want to hear anything about him. Muka asks why, he’s an orphan like you. Fatma walks away.

Munir tells Kerim since he’s leaving he shouldn’t worry about Mustafa. What about Fatma, Kerim asks. Munir says they will keep Mustafa busy. He wants Kerim’s address. Kerim says he doesn’t know it and Munir accuses him of not trusting. Kerim tells Munir he’s changing his phone number.

fatmagul #8 part 5

While Muka paints, she loudly sings a love song about a fisherman, just to get under Fatma’s skin. She even gives Fatma a smirk. [She is a vile creature.] Fatma walks out back to the river.

Munir calls Muka. He tells her he has a buyer for the dairy. She accepts the offer. Give me your address so I can start the process, Munir asks. Muka says she will give the address but don’t come. Ebe Nine is here temporarily. Muka hangs up and goes back to singing.

Mustafa is done with his work and asks the yard boss in the break room if he can go. The boss says yes and another man says, God protect us, after Mustafa leaves. The boss warns him don’t make me regret telling you. Mustafa sees Selim outside the building. Looks like he’s putting things together.

Erdo and Vural are at a private club. [Nice towels, guys] Vural thinks Leman put Erdo on guard duty. No, Erdo says, I’m keeping you under my control until you get rid of the alcohol in your blood and the thoughts you have. I’ll be with you until you leave for London. Vural says, good, how are you going to get those screams out of my head. He adds, don’t you have anything better to do?

Erdo says he has a lot of work and has to deal with that idiot Resat. He continues, but if I don’t control you, you are going to tell the truth and we will be lost. In the Turkish he says, it’s not time to give in to depression. Vural just gives him a look and walks away.

Selim meets Meltem and her friends at a restaurant. Meltem says her mother approves moving up the wedding and she will talk to her father tonight. Selim freezes in terror when he notices Mustafa staring at him through the window. Meltem turns to look but Mustafa disappears. Selim excuses himself from the table. He calls Munir and freaks out. Munir tries to calm him. He says don’t tell Meltem anything and get out of there. Munir makes another call but we don’t hear it.

Two men approach Mustafa as he goes to his hotel. They say they are relatives of Kerim and one starts beating him. He’s thrown through the glass. You are following a married woman? Stop following Fatmagul! Don’t follow Kerim! I’ll kill you! The men take off and bystanders help Mustafa into the hotel. Mustafa is told to get his things and leave the hotel. They don’t want trouble and he will have to pay for the broken glass. “Kerim’s relative” calls Ismail to say mission accomplished.

Resat and Rifat let Munir know they are worried about the Mustafa situation. Munir gets the message from Ismail. He assures Resat and Rifat that Mustafa will concentrate on Kerim and leave their boys alone. Resat says send Mustafa away asap. Munir thinks that Mustafa could become reliable and useful. [yeah, right]

The Yasarans sit for dinner. Munir mentions they purchased land. Resat tells Perihan she needs to come to the office and sign paperwork for the general meeting.

Mustafa wanders the streets. He takes Asu’s card from his wallet and calls her. Do you still have space for me in your house? He shows up at her place and she is alarmed. What happened?! Who did this?

Kerim arrives back at the house. He stands outside and watches Fatma at the table, eating.
Inside, they talk about going to the market so they can stop eating take out. Muka tells Meryem, Fatma is a great cook. Rahmi mentions the house and dairy are sold. Muka give a look and says that’s not the case, there’s only interest from someone. You misunderstood. Fatma says if they go back for the sale, she’s going with them. Muka tells her she can’t step foot in that town.

They encourage Fatma to eat and she says she’s full and she feels sick to her stomach. Muka says, I hope you are not pregnant. Meryem says that’s not possible. They took precautions when Fatma was in the hospital. She explains that in these situations, they give medicine to prevent a pregnancy.

fatmagul #8 part 6

Kerim knocks at the door and Meryem lets him in. Muka nags him and Meryem asks if he wants to eat. He just wants to go out to the shed. He takes some bedding and goes. Fatma won’t even look at him.

Asu takes care of Mustafa. She makes soup. He is sorry to bother her, but he didn’t have money for a hotel. He didn’t have much money when he came to Istanbul. He tells her he started working and he will be out of her way soon. Asu says, it’s okay. For now, eat, drink and tell me what happened. [in the Turkish she tells him she took the night off to be with him]

Mustafa asks her if she works at night, too. She chokes on her drink. Didn’t you read my card, she says. Did you really think I give massages in my apartment? I see you didn’t understand. You wouldn’t have come if you did. Well, you’re here now, so welcome.

Kerim fixes a mattress on the floor. He thinks he needs to shower. He looks out the window at the house and figures everyone is asleep. He takes clean clothes and goes into the house. Fatma hears the door and wakes up. But Muka runs into Kerim in the hall. You came in like a thief she says. She asks if he’s hungry. No, he wants to shower. Fatma hears and is uneasy.

Muka tries to take a peek through the keyhole at Kerim. Meryem comes into the hall and Muka pretends she dropped something. Meryem asks if the bathroom is occupied. Yep, Kerim is taking a shower. I get the idea she’d like to slip in there with him but instead she climbs into bed with Rahmi and tries to get him interested. He’s too tired. She’s frustrated.

The rotten ricos plus Meltem go out to a club. [Is it smart to take Vural here?] While Meltem is in the ladies room, Selim asks Vural if he’s okay. Vural gets annoyed. Selim warns Vural not to make Meltem suspicious. Selim tells them that Mustafa followed him and then disappeared. Vural says your fears created this. Erdo says that Munir is taking care of everything.

Meltem returns to the table and senses there’s something going on. She doesn’t want a bad surprise again. Selim and Meltem start to argue. Erdo says calm down. Meltem asks Vural when he’s leaving for England. He’s leaving soon. She hopes he will be back for her wedding. It’s all very awkward.

Fatma can’t sleep knowing Kerim is in the house. Meryem meets him as he comes out of the bathroom. She’s worried he will get sick in that cold shed. She asks him where he was today. Fatma gets up to listen. He says he had things to do.

Meryem presses and Kerim says he met with Munir. Meryem is not happy. I needed to speak with him, Kerim says, Mustafa found my number on his phone. And he is working for the Yasarans. Meryem worries that Mustafa will find them sooner or later. Kerim says, whatever, good night.

Fatma climbs back into bed. She’s wide awake.

And we are out.

Fatmagul

Thank you Dondi for such a wonderful and complete recap and for filling in the details where the Turkish version differed! You are a legend!

If it wasn't for the whole unhinged element of it I would be a fan of Mustafa's tactics. The following and silently stalking - it's so nonthreateningly threatening. I even like the phone call (minus the vile language) it's chilling and effective dealing with people who are already so on edge. Of course he got thrown through a glass door for his troubles, but hey you can't win them all.

When I was watching this I kept wondering what it would feel like to be in Fatma's shoes and have a sister in law so vile you would actually rather talk to your rapist then her! Of course we have no proof of that but she had to have thought of it I surely did.

Or to be in Kerim's shoes. We know he is attracted to her because he was prior to the rape and he is also horrified by her and what happened. Imagine being attracted to and horrified by someone at the same time...

It's fascinating, it was an interesting idea to explore for a TV show and it's horrifying to think many women have lived in situations like this in their lives and worse as they were forced to marry their rapists.

I don't know what else to say I feel like I could make a daily habit out of saying how horrible Muk is and how great it would be if she got hit by a bus.

Fatmagul

Dondi, thank you for that detailed recap of this rapidly unfolding story .

It is fascinating watching everyone deal with the effects of that fateful night . Munir is so confident in himself as a spin doctor and puppet master who can control everyone and protect the family's wealth, status ,and power. Besides cleaning up the mess the 3 spoiled ricos are in , we see that Erdogan hates his Uncle Resat.

We also see that the three villagers involved in this drama Fatmagul , Mustafa, and Kerim are all pretty naive and no match for Munir's manipulations and the Yaserans' money and power. Munir treats them all like puppets ...add overconfident , greedy Muka to the list of people Munir thinks he can use and manipulate .

Fatmagul

Fatmagul has been vocal about how much she detests Kerim. (Yeah well. He woke up with her ready to plunge his pocket knife into his sleeping body. ) However , she has now heard two things about him : his mothe committed suicide ,and he is an orphan like her because his father left him .

Fatmagul

That song about sailor that Muka was singing (?..yelling?) .She really loves to push poor Fatmagul's buttons .

We have seen Fatmagul in the first episode run away when Muks starts harassing and screaming at her , but we didn't see fatmagul stand up for herself, fight back , and go after Muka. Rami tells Muka to leave fatmagul alone , but he isn't very effective against the steamroller that is Muka.

Muka and Munir are a scary duo ...no scruples, no empathy , no ethics.

OT

Hi All! Just dropping in to say hello. The last few weeks have taken my life in a huge turn of events with my normally healthy 88 year old Mother in a critical health situation. She is out of the hospital and doing better, but will require a lot of care to recover.

I was never able to even start watching Fatmagul, so I will have to do that another time. I was thrilled to see that Hercai is returning and soon! Yay! I have not watched ahead, so will be grateful to return to recapping and commenting. It was nice to see so much interest in Fatmagul dizi. Hope you all are well!

(((VVS)))I am sending you good vibrations . My hub and I cared for our parents as they aged. As you are taking care of your mother, remember to take care of yourself .

Fatmagul

Susanlynn, yes she detests him and with good reason but she is also thrown into a very weird situation with him and her world is very small and her SIL is very vile. I don't know one of the great things about this so far is that they don't over explain anything so I am only guessing but I think she probably feels some sort of curiosity about this man who is a monster who doesn't act like a monster.... even if she doesn't want to be curious she probably is to some degree.

fatmagul

Muchas gracias, dondi356, for another amazing recap. I don't know how you do it, but I'm delighted you do! I've got nothing much to add to your very complete account. I was amused to see Mukaddes express the possibility that Fatmagül might be pregnant when she again was nauseous--amused simply because I had been wondering the same thing. Needless to say, I was relieved to learn that the hospital takes measures to prevent a rape victim from becoming pregnant. A surprisingly enlightened attitude in a society that expected (or forced?) such a victim to marry the rapist.

I'm glad that Meryem heard Fatmagül say "them" when referring to the rape. Meryem may not yet know whether or not Kerim was one of them, but at least she knows there was more than one. You mentioned, dondi, that in the Turkish Fatmagül actually mentioned the Yararans. Why in the world wouldn't that be included in the Spanish dubbing???

I was astonished that Erdogan threatened Resat. I guess he feels that what he can do to Resat and Resat's family trumps what Resat can do to him. To me, it seemed more like mutually assured destruction.

OT

VVS, I am so sorry to hear your mother has been unwell. My mother died some years ago, at 87, but I remember the panic when she became hospitalized with pneumonia right after the holidays. I couldn't help but be resentful of my nephew, who brought his new girlfriend AND her 6 year old son to Christmas dinner. I had flown to Ohio for Christmas and was able to do most of the work preparing the dinner, with lots of supervision from my mother. [Chop those onions very fine, dear.] So she did have Christmas dinner in her own home, with her own china, before falling ill. But the 6-year old had a bad cold. My mother caught it and ended up in the hospital.

OT

VVS, I'm sorry to hear about your mother's critical health issue but relieved to hear that she's out of the hospital and improving. I'm sending good thoughts and vibes your way.

OT

Thank you Susanlynn, novelera and Juanita for the kind thoughts and good vibes. It really was a bit of a shock when she became so ill. I am praying for a good recovery.

fatmagul

Thanks again, dondi, for another terrific recap with things Uni doesn't deign to include.

I was surprised that, in the Turkish, the news about the rotten ricos was hushed up. I guess I misunderstood. I thought they showed a national newspaper with something about it. It also was on the internet, which caused a lot of sturm und drang between Resat and Rifat.

There was a sort of aside that I wish they'd expound upon. Someone mentioned that Resat owes everything to his wife, Perihan. Sounds like he might have married her for her money. And the money perhaps financed their big business empire. He sure butters her up all the time.

Also, the comment about a prosecutor made by Erdo makes it sound like Resat, and probably Rifat as well, is up to something really shady.

I was confused about Asu (a name I recognize...from Todo por mi Hija!). So she's does massage. She seemed to imply she had a space to do massages separate from where she lives. But she also seemed to be giving a wink and a nod that she might do more than that. If she gives "that kind" of massages, it would seem to rule her out for straight-laced Mustafa.

I just can't stomach Muka. I wonder how long she can hold out before she makes an overt pass at Kerim. Singing that fisherman song was SO rotten.

I am a little bit unclear why Munir wants to know where the house is. Muka was going to meet him somewhere rather than have him come there. I think she'd also like to jump Munir's bones.

fatmagul

Novelera, I think I remember Resat himself saying to Belgin that he owes everything to his wife (he was explaining why he couldn't just up and leave her, IIRC). But then wasn't it Perihan who said sadly that her son was the only thing in the house that belonged to her? I'm still having trouble sorting out who's who, so forgive me if all this is wrong.

OT

Hi VVS…….just dropped in too, and read your post regarding your Mom. Glad she’s on the mend and I hope that her recovery is swift and goes well. It’s such a difficult time right now, and I hope that you are able to take time to do some self care. I am a nurse and I know how difficult it can be to do that. Many of my coworkers are dropping like flies for that very reason.

Like you, I can’t partake in Fatmagul, but hope to be able to see it at some point. Looking forward to getting back to Hercai too. Be well and most of all, be kind to yourself ❤️ Hello everyone! Glad that everyone is enjoying Fatmagul! Was there any ever doubt! Lol

OT

VVS, sorry to hear about your mother’s illness. I wish her a speedy recovery and take care of yourself, too. Hope you can be with us for Hercai. I miss reading your witty and insightful recaps and comments.

Fatmagul

Thanks, everyone. I can’t add much more to a recap because I know what happens.

Darcy, I volunteer to be the driver of the bus that hits Muka and you can all be passengers. I can’t imagine the horror Fatmagül has lived. Her parents died when she was young, her brother married a soulless creature who tortures her every chance she gets, she was gang raped, dumped by her fiancé, and was forced to marry someone who she thinks raped her. And then she was forced to leave town.

Mustafa’s gone over to the dark side. I agree his tactics were very effective but all it got him was a beatdown. He’s going to have to rethink his strategy.

Susanlynn, you’re right, there’s so much fallout from that awful night. And so much left to fall.

Yep, Fatma is learning about Kerim—his mother’s suicide, his father’s abandonment. She saw how upset he was over Galip. He’s tried to be helpful to her, too. She told Muka she didn’t want to hear about Kerim but she would never admit if she is curious, like Darcy mentioned.

Juanita, I have no idea why they change the dialog. It’s aggravating and confusing. I, too, was pleased to see the hospital took “precautions”. ITA, it was a bold move by Erdo to threaten Resat. But would Erdo really do it? “mutually assured destruction” is a good way to put it. Resat, Rifat and Munir are up to their necks in the dirty cover up of the rape.

novelera, the rape accusation did get picked up by another paper and was posted on the internet. Munir went to the court to get Galip’s buddy to print a retraction. So I guess that was the end of the story. But like Meltem said, once stuff like this gets out and even if it is successfully refuted, the questions still linger.

Asu is a prostitute, code word: masseuse. She was surprised that Mustafa didn’t figure that out. But she seems like a person with a good heart and seems to have taken pity on or taken a liking to poor clueless Mustafa.

Perihan has some sort of figurehead position with the company. They need her signature on things from time to time. I can’t explain more.

Good to see you, Carmella. Sorry you and VVS couldn’t join us for Fatmagül. Maybe we will be all together again on the Hercai patio.

dondi356

OT

Thank you carmella and dondi356 for the supportive words, my Mom seems to be on the mend! I look forward to being back for Hercai! I am glad you all are enjoying Fatmagul.

carmella, thank you for your work as a nurse! I work for a hospital, but in the administration area. I know the toll the last two years has taken on healthcare workers! You are amazing! See you back soon on the patio.
