Comments:
"Destan", the first episode made it's debut in Turkey on Tuesday and was available online late in our same day.

starring Ebru Sahin (also known as Reyyan in Hercai), (interesting Dondi, this Khan also played Sümbül Aga in MC)

the story takes place in the 8th century, before the Turks moved down into the middle east and before they had converted to Islam. it starts out slow, developing the backstory, (I find the Turks history fascinating). I'm sure Ebru's character Akkiz, will kill a thousand men for every one that bothered her in Hercai. (she is amazing, I guess if you want to be an actor in Turkey you have to bring a lot to the table)

can be watched with english subtitles here,

OT Destan

Thanks for posting, deb. I live streamed the premier and I am very interested. Looks like it could live up to its name -- Destan (Epic). Millions outside of Turkey have already watched.

I like Ebru as a female warrior. “…Akkiz, will kill a thousand men for every one that bothered her in Hercai” Reyyan’s revenge… lol. And there is a female Khan, too.

Yes, I recognized Sümbül (Selim Bayraktar). I've seen him in other dizis, and I think he is a great actor. There are also other actors I recognize.

I’m putting Ertuğrul on the backburner for now. Engin Altan has never been a favorite of mine and it hasn’t grabbed me as I had hoped. I know I’m in the minority on this. And I keep thinking about Burak as Osman Bey…

Fatmagül #16 mini cap (Thanksgiving Day ep) part 1

Scenes condensed and/or combined.

Thinking that Asu was working with Erdogan, Muka decides to pay a visit to the Yasarans. She manipulates the Izmir caretaker’s wife to get the Istanbul address.

Kerim and Emre go to Asu’s place only to find out Fatma has taken off again. Kerim demands answers, why did she look for Fatma? Who was she working with? She admits that she knows Mustafa. While he didn’t give her details, Asu became very curious about the woman who made Mustafa suffer. She says she hasn’t told Mustafa anything about Fatma. She tells about the close call with the flowers. That’s when Asu knew it wasn’t safe for Fatma at her place and she called to come get Fatma.

Fatma wanders through the city with little money. She’s hungry. She’s tired. She calls the house and Muka answers. Fatma wants to speak with Rahmi but Muka starts in with her with the usual and tells her to come home, forget about being independent. You’re out of your league. Fatma says she has no money for a cab. Muka says just come and we will pay for it.

Vural asks Erdo about his dinner with Mustafa. Erdo says he didn’t learn anything important, but he found out they know where Fatmagul was. She was with a prostitute called Asude. Vural makes the connection that’s his Asude. He shows Erdo her card.
The Yasarans wonder how Fatma and Asu wound up together. Nothing to do with Vural or Munir. Could it be Mustafa, Resat asks?

Muka shows up at the Yasarans and demands to see Perihan. Perihan makes a panicked call to Munir. He tells her, don’t talk to Muka. Resat also tells her not to talk. Munir calls Muka but now she wants a woman to woman talk with Perihan. Perihan lets Muka in.
Munir calls Kerim and tells him Muka showed up at the house.

Muka tells Perihan that their lives have been shattered. Munir thinks he gave us a fortune. But we are keeping quiet to protect our names and Fatmagül’s life. Muka accuses the Yasarans of playing games. Perihan assures her they had nothing to do with Fatma running away. Muka is not so sure. She had heard that Munir or Erdo are still messing with them.

What do you want from me, Perihan asks? Muka says, don’t use Fatma. Don’t make me spoil your game. Once harm is done, there is nothing you can offer to silence me, she warns. Let the others know.

Fatma looks for a job in a restaurant kitchen but it’s all men, so she changes her mind.

Fatmagül #16 mini cap part 2

Kerim meets with the rotten ricos and Munir in a remote place. He tells them that it was Mustafa that told Asu about Fatma. They wonder how this could be a coincidence. Was Mustafa setting a trap for Fatma? Munir thinks this is so crazy it must be a coincidence. He tells the ricos to be careful and warns Kerim to keep Muka under control. Things get heated and Kerim gives each of the rotten ricos a punch in the face. He threatens to kill them all if they say Fatma’s name again. (Drink up)

Asu moves to a new apartment. She tells Mustafa she will send her location.

Meryem and Kerim talk out back by the water. She decides to go in and he stays outside. He thinks about Fatma’s harsh words about the letter, that she can’t trust him, she wants a divorce, and he cries. We see Fatma watching him from behind a tree on the other side of the water.

Next morning, Kerim spots Fatma across the water, sitting against the tree and runs to her. He can’t wake her up. He picks her up and hurries back to the house. He tells her thank God I found you. One of his tears falls on her face and she opens her eyes. I was so afraid, he tells her, I was so afraid of losing you. Kerim shouts for Rahmi and Meryem. Fatma is in bad shape. She spent the night in the cold and damp. Kerim goes for a doctor.

Vural meets with Asu. He takes her to a quiet spot. He wants to know, who is that man you love? And the girl he loves? Asu is not cooperative. Vural grabs her. Tell me how you found me. How did you set this trap?

Feverish Fatma remembers Kerim saying, thank God I found you, I thought I lost you.
The doctor prescribes medicine and rest for Fatma. When they are alone, Muka starts to tell Fatma that Asu was the one looking for her. Kerim hears and tries to shush her, but Muka blurts, she is a friend of Mustafa’s.

Fatma realizes that was her Mustafa with the flowers that night. Asu is her replacement! He slept in that bed! She loses it. What fault do I have? Why are people so cruel! Kerim can’t stand it and walks out.

Erdo explains his black eye was from a car accident, but Mustafa finds info that tells him there was no car accident.

Asu swears she didn’t know anything about Vural before they met. They drive back. Asu says she never wants to hear from him again. Emre calls Asu as she drives with Vural. He tells her that Fatma is back home. Asu repeats this info and mentions Fatma’s name. Vural calls Selim with the news.

Fatma thinks about Asu and she pulls everything out of her dowry chest. She drags it out of the house with Muka’s and Meryem’s help. Kerim arrives back to the house and sees this.

Kerim brings Fatma’s medicine and she rips into him. I didn’t come back for you, I came back for Rahmi. I’m not going to forgive you just because you bought my medicine or because look at me with pity! Kerim says it’s not pity (it’s love). Whatever it is, Fatma wants no part of it. Fatma says this is a new Fatmagül and no one is going to hurt her again. And she won’t keep her mouth shut.

Rahmi breaks up the dowry chest and Muka uses it as firewood. Fatma remember Mustafa setting fire to their house. Tears.

And we are out.

Herc S2 #7 part 1

The door opens and Azize enters like the angel of death. She asks Sultana, are you afraid? You know what last chance means. It’s something I don’t have, Sultana replies. Exactly. I don’t know if you were afraid while you were betraying me, Azize says, but it didn’t stop you. Now it’s time to pay for your mistakes. Azize signals for two men to enter. I’ll go, Sultana says. And Azize wishes her a buen viaje. Sultana gives the HAG an enigmatic smile and then the two men take her away.

Miran asks Reyyan, are you feeling better? She nods and says we could have died today Miran. But we didn’t, he answers. We are here, we are together. Remember what you said, Rey asks? You said we should enjoy each moment as if it could be our last and you were right, Miran.

We made a promise to each other, he says, we promised that we wouldn’t postpone our life together. We might have to endure a few disasters, a few fires. But we will not delay life because today is the first day of the rest of our lives. [how original!] From now on, we will remember that, he tells her.

Miran continues, when you thought I was dead, I asked you what went through your head. You said you weren’t ready to imagine I was dead. Well, neither am I, he tells her. The only thing I can imagine is us growing old together. I want to believe in that dream you once told me.

A knock on the door interrupts. A delivery of clothes from the konak.

Miran has run some water in the bathtub. He tells Rey, sometimes your beauty drowns me and it’s like I can’t breathe. But it is slow and voluntary. Reyyan responds, when I look at you and I am by your side, I am overwhelmed with love. I didn’t know this kind of love existed, he tells her, now I do. Reyyan repeats this to him. The Spanish theme plays but it covers up a Turkish song.

Song: Sen Bir Aysın/You are a Moon - Ebru Şahin
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ0Xg_H0hpg
Lyrics: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/sen-bir-ays%C4%B1n-you-are-moon.html

Miran removes the belt on her dress. She turns and he sniffs her hair [doesn’t it smell like smoke?] He moves her hair aside to unzip her dress. He kisses her shoulder. He removes her arms from the sleeves and pulls the dress down so it falls to the floor. Rey stands in her in her slip. She turns to face him. He wets a cloth.

Rey asks what if we had died? Miran answers, fire can’t burn love. [Tell that to Azize and Nasuh.] Promise me, she says. I promise, he tells her. If I die…. she starts. He puts his finger to her lips to silence her. We will continue living and we will be together. Rey says, there’s also life after death. Miran nods, I’ll find you there, too. Do you promise, she asks? Promise.

Miran wipes her forehead with the cloth, followed by a kiss. Then he wipes her lips, and another small kiss follows. He wipes her hands and kisses them, too. I am crazy in love, he tells Rey, and he leaves her in the bathroom. Rey says [Turkish], there is such a love. I believed.

Sultana is marched out of the konak and into a car. Goodbye, Sultana. Sultana’s inner voice says, [Turkish] there is no such thing as a last chance Azize Hanım, sometimes people make their own luck. Even if it means suffering for it in the end. [I wonder if we will see her again. What will Gonul do?]

Azat and Elif are cleaning up, too. Their conversation is totally different than ReyMir’s. She asks, can you take me back to the Aslanbeys? Why did you change your mind, he asks? My grandmother won’t stop, she says, this pain is all my fault. If I go back with her, perhaps… Azat interrupts, it will stop. Tonight I saw the way she looks at you. For the first time I saw her worried. This marriage will stop her. He won’t permit Elif to return.

dondi356

Herc S2 #7 part 2

Elif says she only wants to do what is right. For all, not just me, she says. We are doing what’s right, Azat replies. Don’t you think so? Yes, but… she says. Azat recounts, we did this to protect our families, to end the revenge. He finally realizes that she didn’t accept this just to end the dispute between the families. She sniffles and looks away from him. Elif… I…. She stops him from saying more.

He tells her he doesn’t wish to break her heart. I don’t want you to shed a single tear, but I don’t… she finishes his sentence…. You don’t feel the way I do. I know. Let’s not talk about it. Forget it.

ReyMir have something to eat. Rey is done and she hops into bed. She’s tired. Miran gets into bed with her and pulls her close. So close that she can’t breathe. He lets go of her and worries. She’s ok. Let’s sleep, she tells him. He stares at her. He can’t close his eyes to the sight of her. Rey looks at the clock, it’s 3:45a. It will be dawn soon.

Miran says the clock has its arms open, and he tells a childhood story. Little Miran’s bedtime. Esma would send them to bed. They couldn’t sleep so they played games. But when the clock opened its arms at 9:15p, they went to sleep. Rey says she should try that with Gul. More cutesy talk ends up with Miran tickling Rey.

Rey asks, if little Miran was here what would you tell him? Be careful with the beautiful girl on the horse when you grow up. Ha, ha, ha. Seriously. He says, even if you fall off your favorite swing, and scrape your knee, don’t stop playing, don’t be sad, I won’t leave you, and one day you will find me again. Meanwhile, try to enjoy your childhood. Miran sheds a tear. He asks Rey what she would say to herself as a little girl. Don’t peel mandarins with your teeth.

We move on to Hazar and Zehra in bed. Zehra can’t sleep, she sighs. Hazar tells her not to worry, Reyyan is fine and all is well. She says, today is good but what about tomorrow and the next? She can’t stop worrying about the next time they hurt Reyyan. Hazar admits his worry too, but says they have to remain strong to support their daughter.

Hazar gets a call from unknown number. It was your mother’s neighbor, he tells Zehra. Your mother had a heart attack. She had surgery and is in the hospital. Hazar says, if you want to go… Zehra interrupts, she doesn’t want to see her mother. She uses Reyyan as an excuse.

Hazar thinks Zehra should reconsider. Many years have passed. Zehra is resolute, I don’t want to go or talk about it. Hazar tries to reason, it doesn’t matter what she did, she is your mother. Go to see her, you might regret it later. Zehra says her mother made her decision a long time ago. My mother separated herself from me. She never wanted to see her granddaughters.

Hazar has to agree but adds, we all make mistakes. We made mistakes, too [and how!]. Your mother was wrong, don’t you be wrong. Do this for yourself. You have a good heart. Zehra says her mother has a heart of stone. She couldn’t understand why I wanted to marry you. She wanted Reyyan’s father…. No, I don’t want to remember that, Zehra says, please let’s not talk about it. Don’t insist. Zehra cries.

Nasuh stands alone on his patio, looking at his mansion. He says, the fire wasn’t there, it was here, inside my soul. No one knows but it doesn't shut off.

Azize stands alone on her patio, looking at her mansion. She says, I couldn’t shut off the fire that you started. One day you will also have to burn like me.

Nasuh asks, how long will this take? Only death can make me forget this pain.

Azize says, not even death can take away this suffering.

Nasuh looks at his prayer beads and laments, I don’t know what sins I am paying for.

Azize looks at her prayer beads and says, one day you will understand. You will finally know the reason for my revenge. You will remember what you did.

dondi356

Herc S2 #7 part 3

Reyyan has a bad dream about being trapped in the fire. Miran comforts her. But she wonders who could have caused the fire. He doesn’t want to think about that now, but he says maybe it was the person who sent those notes. Rey doesn’t think so. That person led him to Sukran. Rey flashes back to Hazar’s friend explaining how Azize set up the attack on Miran. Rey says it could have been Azize. Miran does not want to hear it. He thinks the HAG couldn’t do anything so horrible [think again]. He just wants to go back to sleep.

Nasuh and Yusuf are at the country house. Nasuh has a flashback. His mother sends him off to do something for his father. He will go with Yusuf and it will take three days. We see Ayse holding his suitcase. There are looks between the young lovers that do not go unnoticed by Nasuh’s mother. It’s obvious she does not like what is going on.

Mom leaves and Nasuh and Ayse talk. Nasuh says he will only be gone for three days. Ayse has a bad feeling. She is afraid. All she has is her sister and him. He tells her not to be afraid. She says that his mother is furious with her, and you know how she is. He promises that when he returns, he will tell his father everything. They won’t have to hide anymore and the will have a beautiful wedding. End flashback.

Nasuh tells Yusuf, I shouldn’t have done it. I shouldn’t have left Ayse. She told me she was scared. Yusuf tells him, you have to stop regretting. You were capable of living here for a few months. They say time heals all wounds. There was already a fire everywhere, don’t burn inside. Nasuh says even if I drown it in the ocean, I can’t shut it down.

They leave. Nasuh locks the gate. He gives Yusuf the key and says, [Turkish] throw it into the depths of the Tigris. No one will ever find it again. This land was never good for any of us. I trampled on Ayse’s grave. The ashes of my Ayse are here, in my throat, in the water I drink. They are the soil that I step on. I made a mistake. Don’t be afraid. One day, I will come back here to die. And you can bury me next to my beloved.

Azize thinks back to the fire and how Elif left with the Sadoglus. She calls Hanife. We don’t hear that conversation in the Spanish. In the Turkish she asks Hanife to keep an eye out for Elif who is in the house of the enemy. Watch out for Yaren. Hanife asks what about Nasuh? Azize is not worried about him. Keep me informed.

We go back to ReyMir’s hotel room. Miran says, see, I told you today would be a sunny, beautiful day. How do you know, Rey asks? I knew as soon as I opened my eyes, he replies. What more can we ask of life? We could ask for a more peaceful world, she says, a peaceful life. He tells her she will feel better after breakfast. He tells her, think of us.

How can you be so comfortable, she asks? We are not dead, we are alive, we are fine, he answers. What more can we do? Life goes on, you have to. Yes, there are thousands of problems outside the door. Rey says, there are storms outside, but you refuse to see it. Miran says he doesn’t care what happens outside. The sun shines every day for me just because you are by my side. Reyyan gets up to get dressed and Miran’s sunny expression darkens. Uh, oh…

And we are out.

Hercai

Dondi, thanks for all the details .I recorded the episode and read your excellent recap as I watched .

Wowee wow wow.... these Turkish dizis sure know how to bring the romance without getting graphic. That scene in the bath was hot and steamy, and it wasn't the bath water. Two beautiful people crazy in love . When Miran is gazing at Reyyan so mesmerized and captivated , you can forget his angry bangs persona bellowing .

Herc

Thank you dondi356, excellent synopsis of this episode! Azize did indeed enter Sultana’s room like the angel of death ! It was a chilling scene, sad even, thoughI don’t care about Sultana in the least. I never quite figured out what Sultana’s objective was or is in this dizi? Even with Gonul, I’ve never got the impression that she had Gonul’s best interest at heart. If she did, she’d have helped Gonul move on from Miran and get the heck out of Azize’s house of horrors. Azize though, playing God is a super turn off to me! I mean really, who the hell does she think she is? Sultana should’ve given her a couple of “blacker” eyes before calmly submitting to Azize’s whims. Azize is the most disloyal of all of them yet commands loyalty? Azize must know, and not care that she’s going straight to hell. The story of Nasuh and Azize (Ayse) is unfolding nicely though, and I’m more interested in their story than anything at this point. These “hateful” mother types are plucking my last nerve though! I understand it’s cultural and money and position play a large part in things, but how about just wanting to see your child happy? And learning from their own mistakes? Guess there wouldn’t be much of a story if that happened, lol. Isn’t it ironic, however, that Nasuh is full of regrets while Azize is full of revenge???

Zehra’s another one I don’t care much for. She must’ve been a weeping willow in a former life and the tears followed her to this one. Zehra could actually bring an end to all of Azize’s lies by revealing the contents of Dilsah’s letter, but she’s too busy crying about EVERYTHING to think straight and do that! I really want Dilsah to be alive and for Hazar to leave her! She’s having his baby though, so that probably won’t happen. I think Reyyan’s real Dad is lurking out there somewhere too ——hence Zehra’s mother’s storyline—— and will miraculously show up at some point.

The Reymir moments were sweet, but Miran really needs to wake up and smell the bacon! Azize is capable of anything——- why won’t he even consider that fact after all she’s done???? Poor Elif even realizes it, but I guess she hasn’t been programmed like Miran has. I truly wish that Azat has it in him to at least try to love Elif—— but I can’t see that happening. How can he want to potentially spend a lifetime with Elif and not consider the possibility of love? It’s not fair to Elif if he doesn’t

Thanks again dondi356! Have a great weekend everyone!

Fatmagul

Thank you Dondi for this wonderful recap. I am in awe and so thankful of your efforts to keep us up to date! Thank you so much!

I am glad Fatma went back home! Under most circumstances I would say the opposite and that she deserves independence and an escape more than anyone, however with her innocence and lack of money being alone in the big city is not a good idea for her. I definitely don't want to see anything else happen to that poor girl.

I was surprised Muka agreed to pay for her cab. As horrible as she is I expected her to refuse. Maybe she does actually care about Fatma in some twisted unhealthy backward type of way? She is however so rude to her own husband. I couldn't believe she told him to stay out of her business! what a shrew.

Rhami almost told Ebe Nine the truth, but then he backed it up. I was so disappointed! I think it's time she found out.

I surprised myself during this episode by realizing I like the actor playing Vural. I very rarely ever think much about the acting abilities of the villains because I just glare at the screen and wait for them to leave, but I noticed the actor's (don't know his name) performance is actually very nuanced. He's laid back, irreverent, and dismissive at times, and the next thing you know he is full-on aggression and manic, his portrayal of depressive and darkly desperate is so disturbing but then in the next scene, he appears almost insignificant. You can't really decide if he is the most dangerous person in the room or the least. He is a good actor.

Munir looked like he was sort of amused watching Kerim beat up his nephews. It was almost funny the look on his face.

It was an interesting change of pace watching Fatma hiding behind a tree watching Kerim instead of him starring after her.

Fatma felt so alone and had the hope of running away to her one friend for help, only to discover that too was unsafe and her 'friend' is the other woman, yet another blow. And another beautifully acted scene, her desperation, and pain were so heartbreaking.

Fatma yelling at Kerim about this not changing anything because she didn't come back for him it was the first time that it really felt more like her protesting too much than her truly being upset with him. It was a totally understandable reaction though. Everyone she ever trusted betrayed her, I imagine it would feel almost threatening, the idea of trusting anyone - much less someone involved in the worst night of her life. But at the same time, Kerim is so sincere and kind and she needs that so much.

herc

Thanks very much, dondi356, for this excellent recap. You did a great job of finding interesting ways to convey what was happening, from the start (Azize as the Angel of Death) to the end (Miran's sudden darkening expression, Uh oh).

I enjoyed the Miran/Reyyan scenes for a while, but eventually I felt they became tiresome. The one thing that interested me most in these scenes was Reyyan's recalling Hazar's friend's telling her that Azize was responsible for the attack on Miran. I don't remember her ever telling Miran about this. Did she? If not, why not? That might have helped him recognize that, indeed, his abuela most definitely IS capable of setting the fire at the country house, and so much more.

I'm not sure what to make of Sultana. She put up no resistance--she didn't even lock the door to her room. What does she expect will happen to her? I kept waiting for Gonul to see the men leading Sultana away, or perhaps someone else witnessing this (Sukran, for example).

As for Zehra--I lost patience with her ages ago. For me, the last straw was her continuing to keep Hazar from seeing Dilsah's letter.

Carmella raises an interesting point about "hateful" mothers--in this episode, Nasuh's and Zehra's. Of course, the dizi's most hateful mother/person of all is probably Azize, in her extreme cruelty to her daughter-in-law Dilsah, her cruelty to Dilsah's mother Sukran, and her cruelty toward just about everyone who doesn't do as she wishes.

Herc

Thanks, everyone for reading and commenting over this busy weekend.

I thought it was a “Freaky Friday” since Miran suddenly became Mr. Sunshine and Rey became Ms. Mopey. But when I saw the look on Miran’s face at the end… I thought something is up, and he’s not going to share it with Rey for now.

Yes, how about Sultana going without a fight, Carmella. I think at some point she was hoping to dethrone Azize and install her daughter as the lady of the mansion. Then Gonul believed in Azize and gave Miran the divorce. Now Gonul is motherless in the konak. I’ll bet her bond with Esma and Firat will get stronger.

“Hateful” mothers are not uncommon in TNs or dizis. Check out the Toxic Mothers discussions that Urban Anthropologist posts. Azize definitely belongs to that group.

And I also find it interesting to see Nasuh melting into a puddle over his regret. Eager to see their backstory.

Juanita, you said what I was reluctant to say. “I enjoyed the Miran/Reyyan scenes for a while, but eventually I felt they became tiresome.” I wanted Miran to stop screaming but this was a case of be careful what you wish for.

Susanlynn, I agree the Turks do romance well, but are these two ever going to take their clothes off and make love again?

I’ll never like Zehra. Zehra is supposed to have been a widow. I wonder what really happened. She referred to the man as Reyyan’s father, not her husband.

OT- Sorry, (not sorry) OSU fans. Go Blue!

dondi356

Fatmagul

Thank you, dondi356.

When Fatmagul called home, unfortunately she got Muka, who put her down again saying come back to your husband, you are worthless without our support, which pushed Fatmagul away. If she got Rahmi or Meryem, they might have talked her into coming straight back. As it was, she doubted to come back to the last moment and in fact didn't come back, couldn't make the last step.

"Fatma says this is a new Fatmagül and no one is going to hurt her again. And she won’t keep her mouth shut." - I like this attitude. Something good that came out of running away.

Herc

Great recap, thank you, dondi356.

The authors took their time with Reyyan and Miran in this episode. The bathtub scene was 9 minutes long with no cuts. It was getting hot.
Thanks for the lovely song. Ebru Şahin (Reyyan) showed off her voice with a light guitar accompaniment.

Fatmagül

Thanks, Darcy and Lucio.

I agree, Fatma’s not ready to be on her own. She needs to learn to walk before she can run. Finishing her HS degree is a good start.

Did you notice the look on Kerim’s face when Fatma proclaimed she is the new Fatmagül? She looked at Muka and said she wouldn’t keep her mouth shut anymore. Kerim liked that, even if it means he will get an earful, too. He's hopeful again.

Fatma keeps replaying scenes of the “sincere and kind” Kerim in her mind.

All the acting is superb in this dizi. The writers have given them great material to work with. The actor who plays Vural is Buğra Gülsoy. I’ve seen him in several dizis, and I like him. I’m watching his new weekly one, Misafir (Guest).

I’m going to post something for the Friday show (#17), probably tomorrow.

dondi356

Thank you dondi356 for the terrific recap and snarky asides. When Miran took a deep breath in of Reyyan’s hair, I though the same thing, doesn’t she just smell like smoke?

I really enjoyed the ReyMir loving scenes. Very romantic and as Susanlynn said, steamy! The singing was amazing. Thanks for sharing the music link!

So glad we are finally getting more about the Nasuh and Azize (Ayse) history. Sounds like there is a lot more to fill in.

Where in the heck did Azize ship Sultana off to? The manicomio? To her death?

I hope Zehra goes away, I don’t care how, very, very soon!

Fatmagül #17 part 1

The rotten ricos plus Munir have a strategy session. It’s good that Asu was just a coincidence, Selim says. But that doesn’t mean Mustafa is harmless, Munir reminds them. Mustafa can be used as a weapon against Kerim, Erdo says. He knows Mustafa’s weak point to keep him under control. Munir thinks that Mukaddes is a far more dangerous threat.

Erdo has a proposition for Mustafa. Since his father has gardening experience and his mother is a good cook, they can come work and live at his house and Mustafa as well. Erdo adds it would be good for his mother, too. Mustafa is not too sure about it, but Erdo calls his mother right away to tell her he found a family that is from their town.

Mustafa’s parents have doubts about taking this job, too. Emin doesn’t want to work for anyone at his age and he doesn’t want Halide to work in her condition. Mustafa tries to talk them into it. Halide finally sees it Mustafa’s way and Emin gives in.

Fatma is studying by the front window and the others are in the kitchen. She sees Kerim coming home and tries to look busy. He asks her if she is feeling better and she gives a slight nod without looking at him. He smiles.

Kerim brings bags of fruit into the kitchen. Muka starts in on him about contributing and finding steady work. He excuses himself to wash his hands. Fatma intercepts him before he goes into the bathroom. What did that woman tell you, she asks? Nothing important, Kerim replies. Muka rushes to listen in.

Fatma presses for an answer. That woman came here and even used Emre. Did she tell you this? Kerim exhales and nods yes. And him (Mustafa), Fatma asks? Did she tell him our address? No, she didn’t tell him she met you, Kerim says, don’t be afraid.

Fatma insists she is not afraid and tells Kerim he shouldn’t be either. He doesn’t care about you anymore. He found another girl. He can’t be bothered. Kerim tries to suppress a smile. But then Fatma adds, we can divorce now. We can go on with our lives. Kerim responds, I won’t divorce. [See Muka smirking in the kitchen?]

Fatma says but you promised you would divorce. Kerim says he changed his mind. Fatma reminds him she has the attorney letter. Kerim says you can’t divorce if I don’t want to. I won’t divorce you, I won’t leave you. He smiles at her, then goes to wash.

Erdo talks his mother into letting the Nalcalis work and live in the house. She tells her son he’s playing with fire, but Erdo thinks he has the situation under control.

Fatma sees a newspaper headline: Wedding of the Year. Selim and Meltem are getting married this weekend.

It’s Mustafa’s birthday. Asu sends him a text message. He calls her. Asu invites him over to celebrate. He’s not sure about coming. She hooks him by saying she has something important to tell him.

Meltem sees Mustafa and notes that he’s a good looking guy, very respectful. He seems nice.

Erdo talks to Mustafa about Selim’s impending marriage. He says his mom wants him to settle down, too. He asks Mustafa if he has anyone in his life. No, he says, he’s not getting married anytime soon.

Fatma comes back from her shopping and goes to the kitchen. Kerim is there with Muka and Rahmi. Muka comments on the Yasaran wedding article. Muka can’t resist, she says, we went to their engagement, I wonder if they will call us to help them again. Fatma blows up. This isn’t something to joke about! You don’t care about me or this girl (Meltem)! Would she marry him if she knew the truth, Fatma shouts.

Meryem is concerned she hasn’t gotten a buyer for her house yet. Money is running low.

Fatmagul #17 part 2

Muka tries calling Munir. He doesn’t answer. Resat figures she’s seen the newspapers. What if she comes to ruin the wedding, Selim asks? Munir has a plan to get Muka and Meryem out of town on the wedding day.

Meryem gets a call from a “buyer”. He’s calling from Munir’s office. He wants to close quickly. Can she come on Friday? (the day of the wedding). Yes, she can. Munir gives the buyer his final instructions to be careful.

Muka finally reaches Munir. He’s ticked she went to Perihan. Muka complains that the house and dairy haven’t been sold yet. Ah, what do you know, Munir has a buyer and Muka says she will go with Meryem to Izmir to close the deal.

Leman is jealous of Munir’s attentions towards Gaye.

Mustafa arrives at Asu’s for his birthday dinner. Mustafa is anxious to know what Asu has to tell him. She says we will talk over dinner. He takes off his jacket to go wash his hands. Asu sees the picture of the rotten ricos with Kerim and realizes that Mustafa is still hell bent on revenge. Now she thinks twice about telling him about what happened with Fatma.

Fatma panics when she finds out that Muka, Rahmi and Meryem are leaving to Izmir for a couple of days. She will have to stay behind and take care of Murat. And Kerim is staying, too.

Mustafa asks Asu what it is she wanted to tell him. Asu asks about Kerim. Are you still after that guy? Mustafa admits he’s not giving up his revenge against Fatma and Kerim. Asu is worried. She tries to talk him out of it. What if this guy is connected to powerful people? Asu asks if he knows where they live. Mustafa tells her he doesn’t want to talk about it.

Asu says she cares for Mustafa more than she should. She doesn’t want him to throw his life away. She would like to be able to celebrate his birthday next year. Maybe they will be in a better place. In the Turkish Mustafa says, who knows who will be dead and who will be alive next year.

Alone in the kitchen, Kerim tells Fatma she shouldn’t feel uneasy being alone with him. He assures her he won’t hurt her. She says she’s not afraid. He doesn’t have his friends with him. Kerim gets upset and takes off.

Fatma buys a newspaper and sees an article about Selim and Meltem’s wedding. She thinks back to Meltem coming to ask her questions about Selim.

Meanwhile, Meltem is getting ready to sit at the wedding table. The girls write their names on the bottom of Meltem’s shoes (to see who will get married next). The rotten ricos are downing shots to calm nerves. The officiant is ready. Time to get married.

Fatma calls information for Meltem’s phone number. The operator can’t give the cell number but she says she can connect Fatma. Just as Meltem is approaching her groom, her phone rings. Gaye, who is holding Meltem’s bag, answers. Who is calling? Fatmagul? Meltem turns. Gaye tells Fatma Meltem is about to get married. No! Stop her! Kerim has just come in the house and hears this.

Meltem grabs the phone. Fatma shouts, do not marry that man! What are you talking about, Meltem asks?

Kerim sneaks up on Fatma. She turns. Fatma continues talking to Meltem. Do you want to know the truth? I’ll tell you. Don’t marry him. Meltem lowers the phone and looks sick. Fatma stares defiantly at Kerim.

In spite of what she just heard, Meltem sits at the wedding table. She’s in shock. The ricos sense something is wrong.

Do you realize what you did, Kerim asks? Yes, I prevented that girl from ruining her life, Fatma answers, I can’t carry her burden as well. At least she won’t have to live her life with a jerk. [Another dig to poor Kerim]

Fatmagul #17 part 3

Erdo asks Gaye if she knows what is wrong with Meltem. Someone named Fatmagül called. Uh, oh… all of Meltem’s suspicions flash through her mind as she sits at the table. Somehow Meltem makes it through the ceremony. She is married to a rapist.

Kerim tells Fatma nothing will be the same. She knows and is not afraid. Kerim tells her, we have to leave here at once. She’s not going anywhere. The Yasarans know where we live, they will take revenge, he says. She shouts, what else can they take from me?! I’m afraid for you, Fatmagul, Kerim says, they will hurt you. What can they do, kill me, she asks? Let them. You can go wherever you want, she tells Kerim.

Murat interrupts and Kerim gets a call from Meryem. She tells him the house is sold and so are Muka’s properties. They will return tomorrow. Kerim says nothing about what Fatma did.

Erdo tells Vural about Fatma’s call. He signals for Munir to come over.

Meltem faints on the receiving line. She is taken to a room. She says she is alright and tells everyone to go back to the party. Meltem tells Gaye not to tell her parents about the call. Turaner asks his wife if Meltem could be pregnant. [ha, that would be the least of it]

Selim tries to get Meltem to eat. She doesn’t want him to touch her. Fatmagül told me, “Don’t marry that man”. She’s crazy, Selim replies. Meltem accuses, everything they wrote and said wasn’t a lie, it was the truth, right?

Time for damage control. Resat is pissed. Munir didn’t count on Fatma calling. Erdo thinks he should pay Fatma & Kerim a visit. Munir warns don’t do anything stupid. Erdo takes off with Vural following. Erdo sends Mustafa home and they go in Vural’s car. Erdo calls Ismail—find me some trusted men.

Meltem is angry. Who knows what you did to silence that girl… how you scared her. You deceived me, too. Her SIL showed up, your father slapped you and you returned to Istanbul right after. Selim says her mind is playing tricks on her. Calm down. Now I know why my visit to Fatmagül made you so angry, Meltem says. Now Selim gets upset. I told you if you didn’t trust me to break up. You wait until now? Meltem shouts for him to get out.

Resat shows up to check on the newlyweds. Selim tells him Meltem is upset about Fatma’s call. Resat tries to keep up the act but Meltem calls him out on it. Resat asks, so what will you do now? A girl with a muddy dress calls you on your wedding day to ruin it and you believe her? Don’t you realize it’s a lie? Resat says, you’re a Yasaran now, behave like one. Resat says he will tell her the true story.

Fatma wants to go to the corner store, but Kerim thinks it’s too dangerous. She balks but he wins out saying the store can deliver.

Resat spins more lies for Meltem. He tells her this was all over a land sale dispute. And it all got worse from there with threats and blackmail. Meltem says Kerim told her another story. She asks, if these people are so horrible, why did you help Kerim? Resat says he told her the story, that’s it. Don’t let the “riff raff” upset you. He blames Meltem for making it worse by talking to them. You are our weak spot (!?!).

Ender comes to see her daughter. She talks her into returning to the party before the rumors get worse. Meltem goes to the bathroom to shower. She’s still very upset.

Fatma and Murat have their dinner by the front window. Kerim comes into the kitchen to get something to eat. The TV is on and there is a story about the Yasaran wedding. Kerim hears it, too. Fatma shuts the TV. Kerim says, she didn’t listen to you. Fatma answers she doesn’t care, she did what she had to do.

Fatmagul #17 part 4

A couple of vans drive up to the house. Kerim goes out. Several thugs get out. Fatma peeks out the door and Kerim tells her to go back inside and lock the doors. Who are you, Kerim asks? Erdo gets out of a van. Kerim makes a run at him and throws a punch at one of the thugs. Fatma locks the door and hides Murat in another room.

Kerim tries to fight off the thugs but its three against one. They drag Kerim away from the house. Someone breaks a window. Erdo tries to break down the front door. Kerim breaks free and runs screaming to stop Erdo. Erdo breaks open the door, just as Kerim is stopped by the thugs.

Erdo approaches Fatma in the hallway. Why did you do this, you stupid girl?! He disconnects the phone and grabs Fatma. She starts screaming. Erdo threatens to cut out her tongue if she talks again. She spits at him and runs for it. She picks up a stick of wood and swings it at him.

The thugs give Kerim a big beatdown outside the house.

Erdo manages to grab Fatma again and threatens to kill her and her family if she talks again. (drink) He won’t have any compassion. Be a good girl and keep your mouth shut! Erdo leaves with his thugs. Fatma runs out of the house screaming, I hope you all die! Go! We see Vural waiting in the van. I hate you, Fatma screams. Go! Don’t come back! The vans drive off.

Fatma runs over to Kerim, who is semi-conscious. She tries to wake him. Get up! Open your eyes! [In the Turkish she adds, don’t you dare die!] She helps him sit up. He asks her if she is ok. Did they hurt you? She shakes her head no. It was them, she says. Two of them were here. Kerim says, I’ll kill them, I’ll kill them (that’s worth two shots)

Erdo seems pleased with himself. Vural not so much. Erdo says did you see how beautiful she was with those wild eyes? Her rage was captivating. Vural says now she hates me more than ever. Erdo wants to go back to the wedding party. Vural says he’s not going back, he’s had enough.

Kerim has made his way to the bathroom to wash his face. Fatma says he should see a doctor, maybe his ribs are broken. No, he will just take a painkiller and he will be ok. He asks about Murat. Fatma says she put him to bed.

Fatma tells Kerim to go to his bed and she will bring what he needs. He tells her he won’t leave her alone. He will stay in the house. The windows and the door are broken. She says she will put plastic on the windows and block the door. He will try to fix the lock for tonight and get a new one tomorrow. First he will go to the shed to change and then he will spend the night in Meryem’s room.

Meryem, Muka and Rahmi have dinner at a nice place in town. The “buyers” for the properties come in together. One of them spots our group and pulls the other out quickly before they are spotted together. Too late, Meryem notices and our group watches them hurry to their car and drive away. What are these two doing together? They saw us and took off running. Muka tries to steer the conversation away from those guys.

Meryem senses something fishy. She has a bad feeling. She puts it together, this is Munir’s work. They wanted us out of the way for Selim’s wedding.

And we are out.

Fatmagul

Thank you, Dondi once again! You captured it all and we appreciate it so much!

The look on Muka's face (smirk) when Kerim said he won't divorce was so funny! The actress is very expressive, I bet she would be a very fun person to be around (I'm assuming she's not as horrible as Muka IRL)

Fatma telling Kerim she wasn't afraid of him because he didn't have his friends there was a knife to the heart! I'm not gonna lie, I liked it! :) I like the outspoken and spirited Fatma. That had to have been so hard to hear but it was fair from her point of view. Plus the scene itself was so good! The look on Kerim's face, his reaction, he nailed it. I find it such an interesting choice because a) it really does show that she isn't afraid of Kerim, because if she was she wouldn't say that to him! She may not even realize it but there is some innate part of her that knows she doesn't have to be afraid of him. And b) it totally makes sense to test him. If there's any part of her that is even considering trusting him in any way she needs to know how he will react if he's pushed....Is she safe? Or will the monster (re)appear if she pushes the right button?
To say Endo was creepy in this is the understatement of the year...wow, he was actually excited by causing Fatma fear, this is a creepy and dangerous young man. I really hope we don't have to start exploring more of his dark side and watch him hurt more innocent girls because I don't want to watch that.

And then the look on Kerim's face when Fatma actually said his name and told him to go lay down and she would bring him what he needs....he is so desperate for her acceptance that every little inch gets a profound reaction. This whole scene reminded me that these are really two very broken people. Fatma for obvious reasons, but Kerim lost his mom, was abandoned by his dad, was used, scapegoated, and sacrificed by his 'friends', lost his mentor, and is an outsider in his own home and an enemy to the wife he loves. Meryem really is the only person who hasn't abandoned him. You pile all of his own guilt and self-hatred on top of that...wow. This show is really nailing the emotionally complex plotline.

And now, Meltem is married even though she knows the truth, and Meyrem is about to put two and two together. I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow!

Fatmagul

Dondi, thank you ! I always love reading your account of each episode as well as your comments . Each of your recaps is thought-provoking .

If you have ever experienced any type of trauma , this show is actually helpful in depicting how different people deal with traumatic experiences .

I read an interesting article this morning on the five forces that shape our lives : genes, upbringing , popular culture, technology, unexpected events. We can apply this concept to the way each of these characters are behaving .For example, Kerim had a rough childhood with his father leaving and his mother committing suicide , but then he was raised by kind, caring Meryem and apprenticed to another positive influence ..Galip. At his core, he is a good person who cares for others.

Darcy, I always look forward to your reaction to each episode as this tale unfolds. You are so right about fatmagul and Kerim both being broken . When something has completely shattered you , trying to put together the pieces never gets you back to exact!y who you were before the devastating event occurred . The writers are doing an outstanding job of showing how each character is coping with the effects of that careful night .

Whoops...Fateful... Not careful ....it was careless not careful .Autocorrect hates me.

Fatmagul

I'll try to get some highlights up later tonight.

Fatmagül #18 part 1

Scenes condensed and combined.

Selim and Meltem have a big argument in their hotel room. Meltem says she only went through with the wedding because of her family. But she can’t live with this uncertainty, so she wants a divorce! Erdo has returned from doing “nothing important” and listens outside the door. [Did you like how he told the “bridesmaids” to decide who gets to dance with him?]

Mustafa is restless and decides to take a self-guided tour of the house. He admires the fancy furnishings. Then he makes his way up to Erdo’s bedroom. He goes into the walk-in closet. He runs his hands over the suits, picks up a bottle of cologne, tries on a pair of sunglasses. Ah, a drawer full of watches.

Halide goes to look for him and catches him in the act of trying on a watch. She tells him this isn’t proper. He tells his mother he will buy a house like this one. His mother doesn’t want that. She’s not after riches and tells him to stop dreaming. He reminds her that the Yasarans started out like them and look at them now [yeah, look…] Halide is happy with the life she has. She warns him not to go upstairs again.

Fatma has prepared some of Meryem’s potions for Kerim. Oops, she opens the bedroom door and Kerim is shirtless. He hurries to put it back on. A little awkward, but Fatma places the tray down and explains what she brought. She can hardly look at him. He thanks her and she leaves. While Kerim tends to his bruises, Fatma cleans up the broken glass and puts a table by the door.

Murat calls for his “hala” and Fatma goes to him. She locks the bedroom door and gets into bed next to her nephew.

Meryem is ticked about the real estate deal and Munir’s involvement. Muka tells Meryem she’s wrong. Meryem does some detective work. She calls the buyer and pretends she is Munir’s assistant. Did the sale go through? The buyer confirms that he texted Munir immediately, both houses were purchased. [busted!] Meryem shouts, tell Munir is game is over and he will be sorry!

Now Meryem wants an accounting from Muka! Muka tries to play dumb, but Meryem wants the truth. Why did they want us out of town? Selim and Erdogan are guilty, too, right? Meryem shouts, tell me everything! Muka admits the Yasaran boys are guilty.

Selim tells Resat and Munir that Meltem wants a divorce. Resat is furious. Munir says they will find a way to convince Meltem. If that wasn’t bad enough, the buyer calls Munir to tell him their plot has been discovered.

Muka spins her story. They are so powerful, we had no choice but to stay silent. Rahmi says Munir promised to help them. Muka adds, they’d kill Kerim if we spoke. Meryem is livid. Muka says, your son, Kerim, is not so innocent. He was the first to accept money. Muka swears on the Quran [hope she bursts into flames!] They offered him money to marry Fatma. That’s how they convinced him. Meryem is horrified. [Muka is real slick using the Kerim angle with Meryem to deflect from her own sins.] Muka says Fatma and Kerim will be the ones to suffer, so calm down.

Fatma is wide awake. She gets up and goes into Meryem’s room. Kerim is asleep. She looks him over and he wakes up. Uh…. I just came to get the tray… she fumbles with it. Kerim asks if Murat was scared. Yes. And how are you, he asks? I see those idiot’s faces when I close my eyes, she replies. They broke into my house. He touched me, but I’m ok.

Kerim tells her he is not one of them. Say that a thousand times, maybe you will believe it, she answers. If I was one of them, Kerim says, would they have done this? They are scared of me as much as they are of you, he adds, because they know I didn’t harm you. Kerim says, they think we are acting. Fatma says there is no “we.” Kerim responds, we are on the same side whether you see it or not.

dondi356

Fatmagul #18 part 2

Never, she says. Stop trying to justify yourself! Kerim says, my conscience will never be clean even if you forgive me! I didn’t protect you, I’m guilty. But please understand that I am not one of them. You can trust me. I will always protect you.

Fatma leaves him. He gets a call from Meryem. I know everything, she says. I know how they sold you to carry the blame. Fatma knows too, am I wrong? You fooled me, she says with tears in her eyes. You accepted their dirty money! If I were that girl, I’d spit in your face! She rips into Kerim, I asked you that night but you remained silent! Not because you were scared, but because of money. He says he will tell her everything when she returns. She closes the call, shame on you… and on me.

Emre shows up early next morning. He wants to know what happened. Did you have a fight, he asks Kerim. With whom? Kerim asks Emre to stay with Fatma for a while. He has something to do. Kerim walks and Emre calls after him, if you’re going for revenge, don’t go alone. Don’t get into trouble. Fatma runs from the house. Where are you going?! Kerim turns to give her a look. She runs back into the house and he drives off.

Meltem keeps up the act in front of her parents. They assume the couple is going off on their honeymoon. Once her parents leave, Meltem says she’s not going on any honeymoon. We will be divorcing soon. Resat talks her into coming back to his house.

Murat tells Emre how the bad guys came to the house and attacked his uncle. One of them broke the door and came inside. Fatma hears and stops the storytelling. Emre goes to talk to Fatma while Murat watches TV. We are not strangers, he says. Tell me what happened, maybe I can help. Fatma’s not talking. Emre asks, was it your ex fiancé, Mustafa? How do you know about him? Asu told. Did he attack Kerim? Fatma says she doesn’t know who attacked. Don’t ask.

Halide and Emin go over to Resat’s to help with something. Mustafa is alone.

Asu comes to visit Vural. She says she knows why he was so weird. You thought Mustafa sent me. I didn’t know you were friends. I saw your picture in his pocket. My photo? Asu says, Kerim and two others are in the photo, too. Vural says they are not friends. But you know, Kerim and Fatma, right? Well, help them. Mustafa is going to do something stupid. I know he’s going to kill them both. Please stop him.

Meryem, Muka and Rahmi return home and see the window being repaired. Murat runs out and tells his father there was a fight last night. Lots of men beat up my uncle. Fatma nods yes to confirm. She explains what happened. Murat adds that they broke into the house and told his hala that they would kill everyone.

Kerim pulls up to Erdo’s house and goes to the front door. He rings the bell. He bangs on the door. Mustafa is cleaning his clothes off from yard work and hurries to get dressed again. Kerim gets impatient and starts yelling outside the house for Erdogan. I’m here… alone!

Kerim goes around the side of the house and shouts for Erdo again. Mustafa sees him through the window and runs to get his gun. Kerim finds an open door and enters and in an instant, Mustafa’s gun is pressed against his temple.

Mustafa says, you came to me on your own, idiot. I’m going to kill you here and now. Kerim tells him Erdo is using him as a pawn. Mustafa replies that Erdo has nothing to do with what has happened between them. Kerim makes a move and the two begin to struggle. The gun drops, punches are thrown. Kerim gets the upper hand and gets the gun. He presses it to Mustafa’s head.

He tells Mustafa, Fatmagul has no fault. The others stained her innocence. Kerim lays it all out. That night, near dawn, Fatma was running to see you off. She ran into us. We were drinking at Selim’s engagement party. We were all drunk.

dondi356

Fatmagul #18 part 3

What are you saying, Mustafa yells. Kerim yells back, Fatmagul has no fault! First, she was trapped by Erdogan Yasaran, then Selim Yasaran, then Vural. I did nothing but I didn’t protect her. It’s not her fault. Don’t hurt her, Mustafa! You did enough harm by turning your back on her. You didn’t protect her either.

Kerim lets Mustafa up but keeps the gun pointed at him. Do you know who is guilty? Erdogan, Selim and Vural. Me, too. Fatma is not guilty. Kerim puts the gun in Mustafa’s hand and brings it up to his own head! Kill me, he tells Mustafa. (does this count as a drink?)

Meryem can’t reach Kerim. She wants to go to the police.

With the gun on him, Kerim looks Mustafa in the eyes and says he came to settle accounts with Erdo but found him instead. I’m going to kill you, Mustafa tells him. (drink) Do it, Kerim replies, but promise me you won’t hurt Fatmagul. Fatmagul didn’t betray you. With your gun on my forehead, I give you my word. Mustafa has flashbacks to seeing Fatma in the hospital after the attack.

Kerim continues, you believe the Yasarans’ story without thinking of her. You abandoned her. And I married her. Kerim declares, I love Fatmagul. [does Kerim have a death wish?] Kerim grabs Mustafa’s hand and places the gun into his chest. Kill me, he tells Mustafa (drink?) but I beg you not to hurt her. What a surprise, Mustafa lowers the gun. Emin comes back to the house and calls for Mustafa. A devastated Mustafa tells Kerim to leave.

Muka tries to stop Meryem from talking to the cops. Even Fatma is worried, they made death threats. Meryem talks to the cop, Emre’s friend. She tells him Kerim is in danger. Muka makes “crazy” signs behind Meryem’s back. The cop thinks this whole family is crazy.

Kerim calls Meryem. He asks her to take care of Fatma, he told Mustafa everything. The women leave the police station and head home.

The cop’s curiosity is piqued. He wants to investigate the strange happenings around this family. He contacts Emre to find out more about the renters. He tells Emre they accused the Yasarans of wanting to kill Kerim. Then there was that prostitute thing. He’d like Emre to come down and have a talk.

Resat wants to meet with Mustafa so he heads to the office. Mustafa puts clues together. The orderly at the hospital who mentioned the Yasarans. Mustafa crumples the pic of the 3 +1 and screams as he drives.

Resat sends his assistant home and wants the floor cleared so no on sees Mustafa arrive.
It’s very tense at Resat’s house with the arrival of the newlyweds. Meltem wants nothing to do with Selim so he leaves for the office.

Fatma worries that Kerim might have done something to Mustafa.

Mustafa arrives at the office building and flies up the stairs and into Resat’s office. Resat lays the groundwork. They tried to keep Kerim away from him but they can’t control him anymore. Resat tells him where Kerim and Fatma live. If you want to go talk to him… Mustafa pulls out his gun and says, what if he found me first?! That idiot told me everything.

Kerim arrives home. Right away Fatma asks him, what did you do to Mustafa? [good grief, she worries about that jackass!] Nothing, Kerim replies, I just told him the truth about that night. Fatma doesn’t believe him. Mustafa wouldn’t have let him live. Kerim snarks, maybe he spared my life because I begged.

Meryem wants to report this to the police. Kerim doesn’t care and walks. Muka calls after Kerim, you’re out of danger but what about the girl? Kerim assures, no one will harm Fatmagul. I swear with my life.

Selim enters the office and a startled Mustafa turns and shoots him in the gut. [he should have aimed a little lower]

Fatmagul #18 part 4

Meryem starts the inquisition. Fatma listens in on their conversation. I’m going to give you the Turkish here. Meryem starts, you took their money and you covered their dirt and remained silent. Kerim replies, not for money, I didn’t even touch it. Why, then? No more lies!

I did it for Fatmagul, he says. I saw her, she wanted to die. Just like my mother. I hated my father all these years. My mother died because of him. And Fatmagul was going to die because of me. Until I saw my own face in the mirror, I thought my greatest enemy was my father, who I carved out of the pictures. My father, whose face I don’t remember anymore. That’s why I wanted her to live. I didn’t want to suffer anymore. I selfishly wanted her to live.

Meryem says, you told me the first day you didn’t do it. I didn’t do it, Kerim shouts. Vural confirmed it. But back then, my mind was a mess. I don’t remember anything at all. But I felt my guilt here, like a heavy rock. He hits himself in the heart. I didn’t do anything to save her. That’s why I am as guilty as the others. Fatma has been listening and she has tears in her eyes.

Meryem says she feels guilty, too, because she shut up and accepted it. If Fatma would forgive you my heart would feel a bit lighter. She continues, now it’s their turn to suffer. Kerim says, the only one who suffers is Fatmagul. Fatma can’t listen to it any longer and hurries off. Kerim and Meryem spot her running back into the house.

The ambulance comes for Selim. They are going to take him to a doctor that will keep this under wraps. Vural calls Erdo. Mustafa knows. Erdo knows already and tells him that Mustafa just shot Selim.

Mustafa is taken to a lower level of the building. Ismail shouts for Mustafa to hand over his phone. I told you to act wisely. What you did is beyond forgiveness. Mustafa says they will pay. And you, Ismail asks, how will you pay? You think Resat will let you get away with this? You signed your death warrant with that bullet. Look around. If they want, your future will be as dark as this place. You can’t leave. Now you can cry for your miserable life. Mustafa is locked in.

Meryem tells Fatma to get ready. We are going to the prosecutor. We will file a criminal report and they will be punished. Muka has something to say about that. But Meryem won’t be dissuaded. Fatma says she won’t file a report. Don’t be afraid, Meryem says. I’m not afraid, Fatma replies, they won’t listen. They won’t believe. I married that man. I accepted it because they said Mustafa would kill us. Now I know he doesn't care. He forgot me. He has another. He’s a Yasaran man.

Muka and Meryem argue. Fatma tells Meryem she doesn’t want to relive those moments. She doesn’t have the strength. God will punish them in His way. Fatma leaves the kitchen.

Muka comments that Fatma doesn’t want Kerim arrested. Because they are in love.

Meryem is frustrated.

And we are out.
