Tonight's my recap night. Will have it up later.

Fatmagul #21 part 1

Cut: Resat finishes with Mustafa: You chose the briefcase instead of jail. I didn’t know I was selling my soul that day, Mustafa replies. [but he sure likes spending that dough!] Resat says he promised a good life but a life like ours is not going to happen. He’s done negotiating. I have a gun with your fingerprints, he says. Mustafa leaves and runs into Erdo at the door. Munir asks what Meryem had to say. The girl won’t talk to the cops. Resat turns to Erdo, and you won’t make another stupid assault.

Meryem accosts Mustafa outside the Yasaran building. I have things to say to you. Munir sees Meryem and Mustafa from the window.

Resat tells Erdo that he better behave. Meryem threatened to go to the cops if he doesn’t.

Meryem lets Mustafa have it. You came to my home and I did nothing to cause you problems! Meryem and Mustafa see the Yasarans looking. She continues, I think you got the message. Fatmagul doesn’t want to be with you! She’s married and wants to forget everything. Mustafa says get in the car, I have something to talk to you about. It’s dangerous to talk here. Meryem gets in the car and the Yasarans are ticked.

Leman calls Munir. Meltem is here. Why? [because Meltem is on a never ending search for the truth she already knows] Leman tells Munir about her blunder, letting Meltem know Mustafa is Fatma’s ex. She was going to find out sooner or later. Munir has a surprise for Leman, Mustafa is no longer Erdo’s driver. Semsi warns Leman not to meddle.

Meltem is in a taxi. She thinks back to Mustafa nearly running them over and giving Vural the death stare.

Meryem and Mustafa talk. [Turkish] I wiped away everything in me that belonged to her. Nothing is left. I’ve sacrificed much, too. Meryem says, since you work for the Yasarans, you must have been well compensated for your sacrifice. Mustafa shouts, I only feel guilty for Fatmagul! I stood before her for the last time and I will never look back. I have a whole new path before me. [with dirty money and a hooker for a gf] Good for you, Meryem says, you have no place in our lives either.

Mustafa gets a call from Munir. They must be curious about our talk, she says, there’s not much else to talk about. Everyone said what they had to say. Fatmagul spoke, too. Don’t bother her anymore.

Before she leaves, Mustafa asks, does she love him? Meryem answers, she doesn’t want to look back anymore or relive the pain. Musto asks, is it true they don’t live as husband and wife? Didn’t you hear what I told you, Meryem asks? They are married and Kerim promised the protect Fatmagul the rest of her life. She trusts him. But they don’t sleep together, right? Stay away from us, Meryem says. Musto thinks that Fatma still loves him. Leave her alone, Meryem says. She leaves.

Rahmi and Fatma get ready for shopping. Muka says she’s going to Beyhan’s. She was upset when she heard we were moving. Muka warns them to come right back after shopping because she’s worried something bad could happen.

I think Leman called Vural to say Meltem was there and to fill them in on what happened.
Vural tells Selim he doesn’t want to go back to the company. He can’t look at Erdo anymore. You should have seen him that night we went to Kerim’s. He’s crazy. We didn’t need to go to that house. But he wanted to go to see that girl. He says she enters his dreams but [Turkish] I don’t want to know what kind of dreams they are.

Fatmagul #21 part 2

When Kerim came out. Four guys jumped him. And when Kerim was being held, Erdo got out. Kerim was no longer a threat. Then he went after the girl. Imagine how scared she must have been. Kerim was yelling. Erdo broke the door and the girl started screaming. Her screams reminded me of that night. Selim says, remembering that night will make you lose your mind. Vural says Erdo is obsessed with that girl. When he got in the car he was laughing with pleasure. Erdogan worries me, he says.

Kerim has finished a job and the store owner wants to hire him for some other work. Kerim says to talk to his boss. The owner says Kerim would make a lot more money if he worked on his own. But Kerim won’t go behind the boss’ back.

Vural and Selim see Meltem arriving at Erdo’s house. Uh oh. Meltem talks to the help and asks about Mustafa’s parents. She says they were nice people. Perihan shows up and asks, are you looking for something? The truth, Meltem replies.

Hilmiye shows up. Meltem says, I heard Mustafa’s parents were working for you. Yes, but they left, Hilmiye says. When? A couple of days ago. Hmm… just after the wedding. Hilmiye tells her Halide is sick they needed to move closer to the hospital. Why all the questions, Perihan asks. Because I just learned who Mustafa is, Meltem says. Leman told me. Let’s go upstairs, Hilmiye says.

Mustafa goes back to the hotel. His parents tell him that Hilmiye called and wanted to know why we left in a hurry. They had to say they didn’t know. Halide wants answers from her son. His clothes, the way he speaks to them. He doesn’t come home until the early hours of the morning. Musto says he was with an amiga. What amiga? What kind of girl is this? Doesn’t she have family? How can they let her stay with you without being married? Musto bristles under the questioning and explodes.

His father scolds. We are only worried about you. We don’t want you to have relationships with bad people. Musto says they are suffocating him. Halide says then they will go back to their town. Musto apologizes. Halide says first you yell, then you apologize. He blames it on the changes and the stress he’s under. He leaves. His parents worry he’s into bad stuff.

Perihan and Hilmiye do damage control. They tell her to come to them with questions, not the servants. Meltem asks if Mustafa knows what was in the newspapers. Yes, obviously. Does he know the rumors? Perihan says he knows the ugly rumor and he knows the truth. That’s why he’s with us. They keep feeding Meltem a line of BS.

Kerim goes back to the jeweler and looks at the wedding rings in the window. The jeweler asks if he can help. Kerim almost walks away but then he goes inside the store. The jeweler takes out diamond rings. Kerim says he’s looking for something simple and classic. He tries on a plain gold band. He’ll take it.

The jeweler asks for the lady’s size. Kerim says she has fine fingers, but he doesn’t know. The jeweler says no problem it can be adjusted.

While Fatma and Rahmi shop, they see Meryem getting off the ferry. Meryem tells the truth when they ask where she was. I went to see Resat Yasaran and I spoke to Mustafa. They go home to talk.

The bad thing of going home to talk is that Muka is there. Muka thinks Meryem did well to go and put them in their places. Meryem says we want to live here without fear. Rahmi asks if they promised not to bother them, and will Mustafa leave us alone? Meryem evades a yes or no. I made it clear to them, she says.

Meryem adds that Mustafa tried to justify himself. It’s not worth it to keep talking about him. If he can sit and talk to those men… Muka says they filled his pockets with money.

Kerim comes home. Muka calls him into the house. She tells him Meryem went to see Resat. She told them to leave us alone. Fatma goes to the kitchen. Kerim is upset with Meryem.

Fatmagul #21 part 3

Muka notices that Kerim is wearing a wedding ring. He pulls his hand away from her. You put on a ring, Rahmi asks? Fatma hears. Muka wants to see but Kerim hides his hand. Muka calls for Fatma. Kerim tells everyone that it is necessary for keeping up appearances. He gives the ring to Fatma.

What are you thinking, she says. He says to take it. She won’t put it on. Kerim says she will wear it. So the whole world will think they we are married and no one will bother you. He leaves it and turns to go. Fatma calls out, do you think a ring will erase everything? Muka grabs the box. Fatma grabs it out of her hand and throws it. Fatma explodes. This is ridiculous. All I want is a little respect!

Muka finds the ring and is disappointed it’s nothing fancy. Muka nags Fatma to put it on. Muka says she is ungrateful. He bought it for you, not for his satisfaction. She adds, he keeps your lace under his pillow. Muka says to keep it in her purse and takes care of that. The argument over the ring continues.

Fatma gets a job at Erol’s restaurant. Waiting at home, Kerim is worried about Fatma working. Meryem tells him she will be happy doing this for herself. It’s good for her self esteem. He says he should have gone with her.

Muka comes in and wonders why Kerim let Fatma find a job. She says he needs to be more assertive. Then she shifts gears and tells them she caught Fatma in his room. She was supposed to be hanging clothes and I saw the door open, she says. She was looking at the lace flower. You must have left it on the nightstand. [what a lying witch] Embarrassed Kerim doesn’t say anything to Muka. He carries a box out for Meryem. Meryem tells Muka not to meddle.

Rahmi and Fatma return with the good news about the job. She will start tomorrow. Fatma looks at Kerim’s ring and hurries away.

Mustafa is in bed with Asu. His phone rings. It’s Munir. Can you come to the office early tomorrow? We found you a new position in the company. Asu thinks it was bad news. No, it was good, Mustafa says. Mustafa wants to go out to eat. Asu says she has to call Sami for tonight’s plan. Mustafa grabs her. There is no plan! You are not going to call him. Asu says she has to even if it is to tell him she’s not going out.

Mustafa is angry. You have nothing to do with him! Understand? It’s over! I’m trying to forget the past and you talking to Sami reminds me. He orders her to get up and get dressed, they are going out.

Good grief, it’s another “let’s gaslight Meltem” session. I can’t….

Vural sits in his car outside Fatma’s house. He’s drinking and thinking back to the night they attacked Kerim and Fatma. He drives off.

Fatma is outside taking in the clothes. Kerim comes out to talk. I didn’t mean to disrespect you, he says. I don’t want to make things more difficult. This ring is only for show. So you will feel more comfortable with people. He goes to help with the clothes. Leave me, she says. Why won’t you let me help, he asks? I know you are making a big effort to get better and I want to help you. You don’t know how difficult it is for me, she replies. What do you know? You know nothing.

I know you are trying, he says. I saw you throw the bandana in the water. It was his. He left it for you. You left that scarf not because he was no longer a threat. As it floated, it wasn’t just your fear you got rid of, it was your past.

That bandana was Mustafa’s, Fatma tells him, I gave it to him. I had it that night. And they put it in my mouth so no one would hear me scream. That bandana reminds me of Mustafa and that horrible night. I threw it away to forget. [Turkish] but I know I won’t forget even if I throw myself into that water. Kerim is stunned.

Fatmagul #21 part 4

Mustafa returns to the hotel and finds his parents went back to their town.

Fatma is in bed thinking about the bandana in the water and the look on Kerim’s face when she saw him there. She sits up and takes the box with the ring out of her bag then quickly puts it back. Meanwhile Kerim is fiddling around with his ring.

It’s Fatma’s first day at work. Muka gives her “advice”. Be careful. Keep your head low when serving the men. Be dignified. Don’t bring problems. Meryem gives her an apron for work, she never used it. Muka snarks, did you get it out of your dowry chest?

Fatma fixes her hair in the bathroom. She sees Kerim’s ring and picks it up. There is an inscription—her name. Kerim comes back to the bathroom to get his ring. Fatma startles and drops it in the sink. I think he hears it drop. She quickly wipes it off and puts it back. She leaves the bathroom and Kerim gets his ring. He’s smiling.

Meltem is snooping on Selim’s phone again but he enters the room and she has to put it down. She tells Selim he shouldn’t be driving and she will drive him to work.

Fatma walks to Erol’s. Before she goes in, she takes the ring out of her bag and puts it on! Erol introduces her to her coworkers.

Kerim shows up outside the restaurant and Erol sees him. Is there a problem? No, Kerim says he’s happy that Fatma is working there, and he wanted to see if she arrived safely. Fatma comes outside to pick up a small crate of veggies and Kerim notices she is wearing her ring! There’s a smile on his face and a bounce in his step as he leaves.

Muka finds out their truck isn’t worth fixing. She comments to Rahmi that Kerim has money, he can buy one. Meryem hears and calls Muka into the living room. You’ve been talking about Kerim’s money all this time but how did you get money from the Yasarans?

Muka tries to brush it off saying Meryem is always thinking bad. Meryem says there are hidden things she still doesn’t know. How did you get that money? How could you silence Fatmagul when she told you everything? Fatma told me nothing, Muka says, she couldn’t even talk when she was in the hospital. I learned who was guilty. When the police investigated the area, I found Selim Yasaran’s engagement ring. I took it and went to the house that night.

Meryem is shocked. She jumps up. Look at you! Are you proud of yourself?! Why didn’t you go to the police in the first place? You destroyed important evidence for your own benefit. You think that’s how it works, Muka says. They would have made that ring disappear. Would my proof be important against their power and wealth? At least Fatma got something.

Meryem is livid. Muka says don’t give me life lessons. You can’t do anything without money. Even the ones that trust you the most abandon you. You think you can have a good life without money? Don’t worry about that money. Fatma and Kerim are better off. Do they complain about it? Everything will be forgotten in time. Meryem shouts, it won’t be forgotten. Fatmagul and I will never forget!

Meryem slaps her hand down on a table and she winces in pain. She aggravated a herniated disc in her neck. She goes to her room to rest.

Kerim goes with Emre and buys a laptop.

Munir tells Mustafa about his new job with the company. He’s going to supervise the drivers. Munir tells Ismail that Mustafa’s working with them again and he will report to him. Ismail not happy.

Meltem drops off Selim. She sees Mustafa outside the building. Mustafa notices her, too. Here’s her chance. Once all the Yasarans are in the building, she heads off to the area where Mustafa is working.

All the workers in the truck yard are resentful of Mustafa’s rise.

Fatmagul #21 part 5

Mustafa notices Meltem lurking in her car and goes over to her. I want to talk to you, she says. He gets in her car. Mustafa asks what do we have to talk about? We have something in common, Meltem replies. I found out you are Fatmagul’s ex. He confirms it. She asks if he was fired because of Kerim. Mustafa raises his voice, how do you know so much about Fatmagul?! How! What is your problem, Meltem shouts back. Mustafa grabs the wheel and almost causes an accident. They pull over. Meltem is crying.

Kerim returns home with Emre and the new laptop. Muka and Rahmi are excited. Kerim asks for Meryem. The tell him she hurt her neck. Kerim goes to see his abla. He wants to take her to a doctor but she just wants to rest. If it keeps hurting then she will go. He tells her he bought a laptop. With what money, she asks? He says he bought it from a friend of Emre’s on a payment plan. We can all use it.

Before he goes he tells Meryem he went to see Fatma at work and she was wearing her ring. Meryem doesn’t look happy. Kerim lets her rest.

Meltem and Mustafa continue their chat at an outdoor restaurant. Maybe what I am doing now is wrong, but I am so confused, she says. I’ve heard a lot of things. Everyone tells me a different story, new things every day. It confused me more. So I decided to talk to you. [Turkish] Certain things were written in the papers. Maybe you know about those rumors. He nods. They claim that Selim did this to Fatmagul. And Fatmagul confirmed it.

What do you mean, Mustafa asks? Fatma called me on my wedding day and said, “don’t marry that man.” How does she know you, Mustafa asks? I met her once. I asked her for the truth. But she remained silent until the final moment. Why she waited or if she spoke the truth, I don’t know. But I think if she told the truth, why would you still be working with Selim? Selim and his father asked me this question to convince me. Mustafa sits silently for a moment. Selim is telling the truth, he says. Would I still be with them if it were true? Do you think I have no dignity? [everyone: yes!] Meltem says, it wasn’t my intention to offend you. I just wanted answers to my questions.

You found them, Mustafa replies. I know you don’t want to talk about this, Meltem says, it’s difficult for me, too. The possibility of being tricked destroys me. The suspicions are unbearable. We have that in common. I thought you would understand me better than the others. We are in the same situation.

Mustafa says we are not in the same situation. You married your fiancé. Meltem says, Fatma married Kerim. She reasons, Selim was just trying to stop you from hurting them. Is that it? Is there anything else hidden? Please, I have to be sure. Mustafa reassures her. She thanks Mustafa.

And we are out.

Hercai - #11 – Parte 1 de 3

The last we saw on Wednesday was Harun talking to the mystery man (or woman) who’s been worrying Azize. He tells this person that the Sadoglu don’t know anything about the notes (that Azize has been getting). Harun goes on to say: “Of course, that’s what I thought. Then how should I proceed now?”

On tonight’s episode, we return to Harun in the street. He nods understanding, but Viewerville is still baffled. He goes on to say: “¡Entonces avivaremos el fuego un poco más!. (We’ll stoke up the fire a bit more.) “Perfect! I love it!”

Hazar tells Nasuh that he met with Filippos. [Nasuh looks worried.] Hazar says that Reyyan went looking for the truth about the ring that he gave Dilsuh. They found Master Gabriel, but he was threatened by Azize and forced to tell Reyyan and Miran that Mehmet Aslanbey ordered the ring. Reyyan didn’t want to worry me, so she didn’t tell me about this.

Nasuh tells Hazar that it’s time he stopped trying to dig up the past. And that he should tell Reyyan to also stop. “You need to forget this history. I have a foreboding that something bad is going to happen.” Hazar: “Why? Azize’s lies are finally being revealed. Once Miran believes me, this hostility will end. Why do you want me to stop now?” Nasuh: “Even though Filippo showed up and Reyyan believes you, Miran has had his mind poisoned by Azize. He wouldn’t believe it if Dilsuh herself returned from the dead and told him so. Don’t expose yourself to danger to show Miran the truth!” Hazar sort of nods or just gives up arguing his point.

Nasuh goes to see his regular confidante, Yusuf, and asks him to find Filippo. Yusuf: “Why, old friend?” Nasuh: “If Filippo knows something, perhaps because Master Gabriel told him before he died, it means that I am condemned.” [Whoa!]

Hazar remembers Filippo telling him that they need to stop HAG before she gets rid of every person who knows what really happened. He thinks this could be the end of Miran and Reyyan. He calls someone to meet him, and meet him alone, at the posada (the place where he met Esma before). Hazar leaves his bedroom, and we see Gul asleep holding the doll that hides the fateful letter from Dilsuh. [Hope Gul isn’t a bedwetter.]

We see that Hazar had called Firat. Firat is completely hostile. “Why did you call me?” Hazar says that, if he (Firat) came here at all it’s because he loves his people. Hazar: “I want to protect my family and also make sure Miran doesn’t get hurt. Azize won’t stop getting revenge.” Firat: “Nor will Miran!” Hazar: “And can you say this doesn’t worry you? The man you call brother would become a killer, take down others you care about, and you’ll just sit there and watch?” Firat: “Miran won’t do anything to you that you don’t deserve.” Hazar: “And if Azize Aslanbey is wrong? What if Miran spills blood because of a lie of his grandmother? Won’t you wish you had listened to Hazar Sadoglu? This day will arrive.”

Hercai - #11 – Parte 2 de 3

Firat: “Prove it! Prove you didn’t kill Dilsuh and Señor Mehmet. Prove you didn’t violate Dilsuh! Prove it!” Hazar swears that he didn’t. Hazar: “You know that everyone heard what Filippo said in front of Miran. That I ordered the ring for Dilsuh. I knew Miran wanted to kill me, but I still protected him from my father, even after he sullied my daughter. I did everything possible to keep this from being a bloody revenge and to protect the innocent.” Firat reminds him of the lie he told Reyyan about who pushed him down the stairs. Hazar: “I did it to protect her from Miran and to protect her from Azize with a lien instead of with a bullet. Remember what happened with Miran’s car. He was attacked by Azize’s men
to incriminate us. It was because she saw his heart softening a bit. If Miran kills me because of a lie, he won’t be doing his filial duty; he’ll become a killer. And Reyyan will never be able to forgive him. So…you won’t believe me? Go then and tell your mother that time’s up. I won’t keep waiting." Firat: “Wait! What does my mother know?” Hazar: “You’ll need to ask her.”

Gonul finds her mother in her bedroom singing. Gonul is very surprised at the change in her mother and says: “You didn’t go to Kars, right?” Sultana: “Azize has made me suffer for years. This you know. I feared her, and I feared for you. Once she gets her claws into you, it’s hard to get free. When your grandmother again sent me to a mental hospital, I got free.” Gonul: “What?” Sultana: “She tried to get rid of me in the middle of the night. I overcame my fears, and I no longer fear her, even if this means my death.” Gonul: “How did you get out?” Sultana tells her that she doesn’t know.

When Gonul runs toward the door, probably to scream at Azize, Sultana tells her that she has to be smarter. Azize always has an ace in her hand. “She must have promised you something so you’d sign those divorce papers. Don’t worry. I won’t ask what it was because you probably wouldn’t tell me. Pay attention. You need to play your cards right. Don’t say a lot of things. Keep your eyes open, because I’m sure that the reign of Azize Aslanbey is about to fall.” She begins to sing again, making up words about Gonul changing her plans.

Nasuh is raving to Cihan, Hazar, and Handan about the loco who burned down his house. Handan pipes up that Azize Asanbey is behind it. Nasuh: “But what would she gain incriminating Hanife?” Hazar says that she did it before, blaming them when Miran’s car was shot up.

Miran is sitting on one of those outdoor sofas, twitching. Reyyan brings him what he least needs: coffee! He tells her he needs to get away from this house. Sultana comes out to tell Reymir what happened to her. Before she can actually say it all, Miran cuts her off. [Me-ran is on my last nerve. He doesn’t seem to think ANY woman can have an opinion.] He tells Sultana that whatever problem she has with his grandmother, he doesn’t want to know about it. She tells him that Azize tried once again to get rid of her by sending her off to a mental institution.

Miran: “What? What institution?” Sultana: “It’s not the first time she did it. She came with some of her guys and they dragged me into a car. I can only thank God there was someone there who helped me and got me out of there.” Miran: “Was it Firat?” Sultana: “No, someone who is an enemy of Azize. The person who came would not say who arranged it, only to give their regards to Azize.” Me-ran starts raving again, saying this stuff is driving HIM nuts.

They agree that Reymir will wait at the corner so no one will see them leave to find this place.

Hercai #11 – Parte 3 de 3

Handan still has some sort of grudge against Melike. I can’t remember why. She tells Cihan that she’s a spy for the Aslanbey. When Azat comes into the bedroom she comes up with her new idea about the spy: Hanife. [Even a blind pig occasionally finds an acorn.] She tells her husband and her son that Azize got Hanife out of prison by making her be a spy at the Sadoglu konak. [She’s got it a bit backwards, but she’s almost right.]

Hanife is in the kitchen crying. Melike tries to comfort her, but sociopath Yaren comes in to make fun of her. Hanife fires back a little bit by saying that living with Yaren and her mother has gotten her used to being around “locas”. Yaren leaves and Handan asks Hanife why the crazy guy blamed her. Hanife sobs until she’s sure that Handan is gone. She then thinks to herself that Handan only uses half her brain and she’s glad she doesn’t have to put up with two Azizes.

Just then Hanife gets a call from her sister. Before she picks up she says to herself that she’ll make her pay. When she does pick up, Azize detects something in her tone of voice. Hanife: “Why did you leave me alone there?” Azize coldly replies that she had to do it, but she’ll find that guy (the one who accused Hanife) and find out who’s behind all of this. Hanife: “Nasuh is also looking for him, but he can’t be found.” Azize says that the Sadoglul could be behind this. Maybe the guy works for them. Maybe they’ve found out we’re sisters. Hanife says that she’s afraid and appears read to burst into tears. But when she hangs up her face turns to stone.

Azize is getting pretty paranoid trying to guess who’s after her. She wonders if Hanife is betraying her. And we see Hanife smile because she knows that is what Azize is thinking.

Cihan, Azat, and Harun arrive at the offices in the hotel and confront Firat, who was thinking about what Hazar said about his mother before they walked in. Harun is showing that perennial smirk that is one of his two expressions…the other one being a fake grin. Firat doesn’t seem to be aware that the Sadoglu got back their properties. Azat tells him that, while Azize Aslanbey was trying to get him blamed for killing Reyyan, their properties were returned. Justice was done. Cihan gives him some papers to back up their claim. Cihan also tells him that, when Firat was in short pants, the company in question was created by them.

Harun makes a sarcastic remark about Firat’s right to his position, and Firat loses it. He calls him a clown when he asks Cihan what he’s doing there. [I’m pretty sure his feelings about Yaren have something to do with how he feels about Harun.] Azat sits down at the desk and tells Firat to go look for another place.

Reymir and Sultana arrive at the nut house. Before they can go in, Firat calls Miran about the “takeover”. Miran doesn’t blow up. He tells Firat to let them stay. Firat: “What? What will happen when Señora Azize finds out?” Miran: “It doesn’t matter what she says when she finds out. This way she’ll remember why all this is happening.” [!!! I think what he refers to is how he was in on the scheme with Azize to get the Sadoglu over-extended and take their properties right after he left Reyyan at that cabin.]

Firat comes back into the office to tell Cihan and the rest, more or less: “You’ll get it when my big brother comes here.” Azat replies, looking very sure of himself: “And does he know what happens when he comes here?”

Sultana is beside herself, arguing with someone at the front desk of the nut house. It seems the doctor she spoke with yesterday doesn’t work there and never has. It sort of appears like Miran is going to think she really should be there. But he sees an orderly or some such person looking very sneaky and then slinking away.

Herc

Thank you novelera for your recap. You hit all the major points and highlights——- which have me stumped all the more right now. We get reveals, but more questions pop up too. Not sure how this takeover of the company, of Firat’s position has come to be, or how Harun fits into all this. I’m still of the thought that he’s a true Aslanbey, and Azize’s rise to power in that family has caused this “mysterious” enemy. Azize is ruthless, that we know, and I’m sure she burned other Aslanbey family members without so much as a blink of the eye. My question is why it’s taken so many years for all this to come to a head??? Azize is definitely losing her powers of fear and intimidation—— even loyalty where Hanife is concerned.

Sultana is a sore loser and not a humble winner. I get her, trust me I do, but she has become an ugly person through and through as a result. She’s got a song in her heart again, but somehow I can’t cheer for her. I think Miran will believe her though, and Azize’s games are on their last limb. I want to see Azize on her knees, more humble than a baby lamb, but she has to pay for her multitude of sins. I also, as I’ve mentioned before, believe that she will be redeemed. Nasuh has always loved her, and imo that won’t change in spite of all she’s done. What is Nasuh afraid of though? What has he done? Thing is, whatever he has done, he’s done it to protect Hazar, his golden child. Nasuh comes off to me as a protector, and for the life of me I don’t understand why they made him the type of man who would kill an innocent child? Maybe they (the writers) wanted us to believe that he was on the same level as Azize, so that the whole revenge thing would make sense.

I feel bad for Firat. He’s loyal and kind. Hazar appealed to him for a reason, though Firat is just as much a product of Azize’s lies as the rest of them. I think his world is about to be shaken up too, but he, at this point, he seems a bit more level headed than both Miran and Gonul.

Thank you again novelera. Much appreciated !

Fatmagul

Dear Dondi, Thank you for a great recap with all the details to start my day . I enjoy your excellent retelling and comments so much as I see the episode again through your eyes.

I think Muk really spun the truth again . Muk was the one who went into Kerim's shed and snooped. I think she found the floral lace under his pillow ( ugh..how creepily invasive ) . Fatmagul saw the open door of the shed and chased Muk out after Muk showed her the bit of lace. Mum is a conniving liar , but she is the one who pushed for the marriage . Ironically, she is the person who brought Kerim and Fatmagul together and who keeps pushing and nagging for them to stay together.

Kerim shyly buying the wedding rings was sweet. He keeps looking at the ring on his finger. Rings are symbols of endless love .... no beginning , no end. Para siempre.

We could have a new drinking game if we downed a shot every time Muk meddles and every time Merged tells her not to. We would be drunk as skunks.

Fatmagul

Thank you, dondi356.

About the rings. "Fatma grabs it out of her hand and throws it. Fatma explodes. This is ridiculous. All I want is a little respect!" - Fatmagul's first reaction to the ring was predictable.
"Fatma startles and drops it in the sink." - I was expecting the ring to go down the drain :), but lucky for Fatmagul they had a sink strainer.

The talk about the bandana was harsh but Kerim and Fatmagul shared some of their feelings, he about how he interpreted her letting go of the bandana and Fatmagul about how hard it is for her.

"Before she goes in, she takes the ring out of her bag and puts it on!" - Wow! This was unexpected! Why did she do it? Not putting it on was a sure way to stick to her principles and demonstrate rejection. The cultural pressure to be proper with marriage must be strong.

Enjoyed the sidenotes. "[because Meltem is on a never ending search for the truth she already knows]" "Do you think I have no dignity? [everyone: yes!]" Yes!

Fatmagul

Thank you Dondi!! Your recap is perfection as always!

I loved: 'Good grief, it’s another “let’s gaslight Meltem” session. I can’t….' Yep! But then again as you also pointed out she is practically begging to be gas lighted by running around desperately trying to get someone to convince her the truth is a lie! And what do you know, Mustafa steps up to the plate! Proving what a low life he is once again. He sold Fatma down the river first and now he is feeding Meltem right back to the wolves. And, yes absolutely, we both think and know you have no dignity. He knows too, but it doesn't stop him from sinking lower.

Lucio, I think Fatma put the ring on because Muka got into her head with all that crap about keep your head down when you are serving men, don't bring us problems. She saw that guy in the street and she got uncomfortable, and then put the ring on.

What I wondered about is why Meryem looked unhappy about the news that Fatma put her ring on. Why is she disappointed? Maybe because she feels Fatma is being pressured? But I actually think it's nice that Fatma made that choice when she was alone, no witnesses, no harping. Whatever led to the decision it was HER choice to wear the ring.

Vural says he is scared if Erdo (good call) because he is obsessed with Fatma and why did he need to go to her house...but then we see Vural at her house, makes you wonder who is obsessed?? But I think Vural is more haunted while Erdo's obsession is more perverted.

Seeing Kerim get excited about every little miniscule sign of hope is both extremely cute and extremely sad.

Fatmagul/OT

Susanlynn, if we took a shot everytime Muka meddled we would die from alcohol poisoning long before we got to see how this story ends!

Thanks VERY much, novelera, for this superb recap. You've covered everything in this often mystifying episode splendidly, including some terrific asides.

I had hoped that this episode would elaborate on some of the revelations of the preceding one, but instead it has left us with more questions. I guess it's been clear for some time that Nasuh has something in his past that he is hiding, and he makes that even more clear in this episode, but just what that is remains uncertain. Did he somehow start the fire whose scars remain on Azize's body? Or did he fail to save his beloved Ayse? Or...???

I was so focused on Hazar in the scene with Gul that I failed to notice that she was sleeping with the doll Zehra has used to hide Dilsah's letter. Thanks very much for pointing that out, and also for your terrific comment: "[Hope Gul isn't a bedwetter]" I burst out laughing!

I liked the scene between Hazar and Firat. Obviously, it's frustrating that Firat refuses to see that Hazar may not be the evil murderer and rapist Azize claims he is. However, I was glad to see Hazar argue so well, and I was especially glad that he finally told Firat to ask his mother about the past and that he (Hazar) can wait no longer. Esma may be just about the only person left who knows what happened. Alas, Azize may recognize that fact as well. Will Esma be willing to tell Firat the truth? And will she get to do so, or will Azize make sure she can't?

I guess Sultana knows a good deal about the past as well, but probably not as much as Esma, and Azize is doing her best to discredit Sultana as loca and not to be believed. Of course, Sultana does a pretty good job of that by herself!

I'm sure you're right that some of Firat's dislike of Harun stems from Firat's feelings for Yaren (misguided though they may be), but Harun gives almost everyone (including me) plenty of reason to dislike and distrust him. I'm really eager to find out more about this smirky slimeball.

Thanks very much for explaining why Miran tells Firat, “It doesn’t matter what she [Azize] says when she finds out. This way she’ll remember why all this is happening.” I had forgotten some of what was behind that.

I too saw Miran take notice of the young man who watched from behind a wall and then disappeared. He didn't look familiar to me, but he did catch Miran's attention. And the episode ends with us wondering why.

Again, MANY thanks!

Herc

Thanks for the reminder Juanita! Almost forgot about that comment about Gul not being a bed wetter! I laughed as I read it, and thought at that time how much we need to laugh through the heaviness of it all! Herc really does need some comic relief——-at least one character who will bring the funny and lighten things up a bit!

Thanks again novelera!

LOL Halimacandy! Tell us how you really feel! Hahaha!

Fart bag, confused, brain dead! Oh my! Yeah, Miran did suck that coffee down in just one swallow ! I’m still holding out hope for Firat, and I agree with you about Hanife. I think her days are numbered too. About Sultana-hahahahahahaha! I’m assuming that no one here seeks counseling BEFORE they go over the edge! Anyone know how “therapy” is culturally received in Turkey?

Great recap, novelera. Thanks for all the important dialog and that bit of Spanish vocab.

I guess we know now that when Harun mentioned a hospital, he meant Sultana’s manicomio.
Handan, close but no cigar. I thought that scene was funny. If they only knew Hanife is Azize’s sister and has been spying for years.

“Filippo telling him that they need to stop HAG before she gets rid of every person who knows what really happened.” So how many people know what really happened? And what are those happenings? Hazar and Dilsah? Nasuh and Ayse? Sultana’s missing child?

And for goodness sakes, do not give Miran coffee! He needs a horse tranquillizer.

My recap will be up sometime tomorrow.

Fatmagul

Thanks everyone. Very insightful comments.

Yep, Susanlynn, Muka was the snoop and told Kerim it was Fatma. She enjoys torturing people.

Exactly Darcy: “Seeing Kerim get excited about every little miniscule sign of hope is both extremely cute and extremely sad.”

Vural is haunted by his conscience. He needs to unload his guilt. Remember he was on his way report everything to the cops. Then the other 3 jumped in the car with him and subsequently were pulled over and busted for drugs.

My recap will be up sometime tomorrow.

Dondi, I look forward to reading your recap! You could tell watching that yesterday's episode was a chop fest!!! It didn't even flow, those editors are horrible.

Hercai S2 #12 part 1

At the manicomio, they threaten to call security on the increasingly agitated Sultana. Miran hustles her out but notices the nervous lurker again.

Firat bursts into Azize’s room to confront her. She scolds him for barging in. He ignores that and launches right into it. I see how right I was, not wanting to hand over the assets. What are you talking about, she asks? Azat and Cihan are at the company, claiming their rights. I don’t know how they did it. Cihan brought his SIL, and left Azat in charge. Azize is stunned. How did that happen? Because it’s your fault, Firat replies.

Azize warns him to know his place. I’m only speaking facts, he tells her. You let yourself get carried away by anger and you fell into Azat’s trap. You put those plane tickets in Reyyan’s bag. If you hadn’t kept making one mistake after another, none of this would be happening right now. You played your games, but because of your intrigues, you ended up giving them back everything we took from them. Azize’s eyes widen.

He continues, I don’t know what you are doing but it seems like neither you nor Miran care about anything. But I haven’t forgotten my responsibilities. I’m going to continue protecting this family and our business by any means necessary. I don’t know how to protect you from your own dementia. The Sadoglus are in the hotel now. Get ready for what’s coming. He turns and leaves. [Wow, Firat!]

She says to herself, you have to do something, Azize. You have to hurry. Do something before the ship sinks or you’ll lose.

Gonul stops Firat on the patio. She’s not okay and thinks he isn’t either We won’t be ok until we take away grandmother’s power. That’s the best thing that could happen for us. Admit it, you can’t stand it. This can’t go unpunished after all the harm they caused us. [why is she saying "they"? Did I get that right?] Seems Firat may be coming around to Gonul’s way of thinking. He says, you may be right.

Azize paces and thinks. Miran abandoned his mission. Why are they playing with his mind? Reyyan and Sukran are behind this. Firat is right about one thing, we need to handle business. But first we have to get rid of the one stirring the water. How to do it? I have to think of something fast.

Gonul continues, you see I’m right? You understand. Firat replies he is considering it, but everyone here has a different plan. What bothers me doesn’t bother Miran, he says. I don’t know what your grandmother thinks either. You’re right, it’s time to change things but…Gonul interrupts, you’re too scared to work with me against grandmother, right? Firat lowers his head and sighs. He leaves. She calls after him, we are not done talking.

Outside the manicomio, Sultana is still upset. Why did you take me out of there? These people are hiding something. She wants to go back in. Miran stops her and tells her to calm down. He also notices the lurker leaving the hospital. Let’s go he says. Sultana objects. They are lying and I won’t let them get their way. Rey thinks they are giving up to soon as well. But Miran has his eye on the lurker, who gets into his car. He insists they get in their car. The lurker drives off.

Once they are in the car, Miran explains that he saw something that they didn’t. The man in that car got very nervous when he saw us, Miran says. Now he’s leaving. Miran starts to follow him.

Azize yells for her car to be readied. She heads to Sukran’s room.

Azize starts, I see you haven’t packed yet. Your grandson already knows your intentions. Do you think he wants to see your face again? Sukran says she told her grandson the whole truth. He will understand why I couldn’t meet with him all those years. He will see how much I love him. Don’t get your hopes up, she tells Azize.

dondi356

Herc S2 #12 part 1

Miran will understand what he must, Azize replies. From this moment, you’re out of his life. Take your things and get out of my house. And when they ask, say you want to leave. Get out and stop ruining Miran’s life. Sukran stands firm. She shouts at Azize, you don’t get to say that. My grandson brought me here and I’ll leave when he wants me to!

Azize says, the grandson who you abandoned because of all the lies you’ve told? I know what Miran thinks and what he can’t say out loud. I won’t let you keep playing with my grandson’s emotions. [she forgot to add: like I do] Sukran follows Azize out onto the patio, where the remaining roaches, Gonul and Esma, come to watch and listen.

This is the real Azize, Sukran says, you scheme behind Miran’s back all the time. You spew the poison from your soul whenever he is not around, and you spread your lies. I’m not going anywhere unless my grandson asks me to leave. Everything is different now. The days where you could close those doors in my face are over. I won’t let you ruin my grandson’s life. I’m not afraid of you anymore. You are afraid of me and that’s why you want me to leave!

Azize Aslanbey is afraid of no one, HAG asserts. Much less an insignificant woman. Gonul tells Esma to call Miran to come before Azize hurts Sukran Hanım.

The two grannies continue to battle it out. This is my house, Azize says, who do you think you are to talk to me this way? Sukran looks up and replies, I can only call on the Lord’s love and justice. Understand? I’m here from the past. You can’t keep the truth from being revealed. I’ll tell Miran everything, I know.

Miran is following the lurker. He turns a corner and sees the lurker’s car parked with the door open. No sign of the man. [Did you laugh when Miran told the ladies to stay in the car and they immediately jumped out?] Miran calls Firat to run a license plate number. Then he gets the call from Esma about the showdown between good and evil out on the patio. Miran says he’s coming.

Miran must have used the telenovela transporter because he has returned in a flash. The ladies are still arguing, when he enters shouting. Sultana asks Gonul what’s going on. Just a regular day, she replies. She asks her mother where they went. But they are distracted by Miran’s shouting.

Enough! Can’t we have one peaceful day?! Azize answers, I refuse to have some people in my home! They can’t keep hurting us. Miran shouts, now I hurt you? You will never recognize anything. Stop fighting with everyone! What is the problem now?!

You brought this woman you call grandmother and she’s done nothing but slander me, Azize complains. And I’m the one who turns everything upside down? Sukran counters, you’re the one who is driving everyone crazy. You don’t want your grandson to live his life so you can keep dragging him into your filth. You’ve filled this house but you’re not happy and you don’t want them (ReyMir) to be in love. You manipulate Miran. You want him to put his family in danger. Azize responds, Miran belongs to this family, and he will always do the right thing no matter what you say.

Gonul steps into the mix. She tells HAG, you’re no one to talk, and when you do, you ruin our lives. You manipulate us. What more must we do to satisfy your thirst for revenge? Sukran interjects, this word is repeated a lot—revenge, revenge! What revenge are you talking about? Gonul says Sukran doesn’t know. Miran tells her to shut up. She should know, Gonul says.

Do you know why we moved from Kars, Sukran Hanım? My grandmother wanted to avenge Dilsah and Mehmet. She said Hazar Sadoglu killed them. That’s why we are here.

Sukran asks Azize if that’s what she told the kids. Then you will listen carefully, Sukran says to the group. I don’t know any Hazar Sadoglu. She looks at Miran—Mehmet Aslanbey killed my daughter! Stunned silence.

dondi356

Herc S2 #12 part 3

Sukran closes in on Azize, you and your son ruined my daughter’s life. Miran sputters, wh..what did you say? Azize grabs Sukran, shut your damn mouth! No Aslanbey has murdered anyone! Everyone rushes in to separate the grannies. Azize continues, how dare you tarnish my son’s memory?! You know nothing, she cries out, my son was a great man. You slander a man you never knew. Did you ever enter this house? When did you see them together? Azize screams, my son is not a murderer!

Miran shouts, enough! Azize turns her wrath towards Miran. She pushes him, this woman called your father and me murderers! Push. Are you going to let her disrespect the memory of the man who gave his life to your mother? Push. Are you going to stay quiet, you bastard?! Speak up, you coward!

Sukran steps in between Miran and Azize. Don’t do this to my grandson! Enough! He doesn’t have to talk, you (Azize) do! Everyone knows what happened in that house. Sukran looks around at the guilty faces. She says, you can’t speak, Esma, because your son is here. You can’t speak, Sultana, because your daughter is here.

Sukran turns back to Azize, I don’t have a daughter because you killed her. But it’s over, you won’t hurt my grandson. I won’t allow you to keep poisoning him with your lies. I’m not dead yet. [I’m sure Azize would like to arrange that.] We see Miran getting shaky.
I died years ago, Azize cries, my life ended 20 years ago! I died on that damned night. When they brought their torn bodies! Now you are here to tell me my son killed your daughter?! You blame him after all I suffered. My son is innocent!

Sukran says she doesn’t know who killed Azize’s son and she doesn’t care. But because of her filthy schemes, her poor daughter was killed. Azize says, you only came to poison Miran’s mind with your lies. This is all the mercy I can give you. Since you don’t want to go, I’ll make sure you leave here the only way you deserve. Azize calls Mahmut and asks him to throw Sukran out on the street!

You will not! Miran shouts, you will not! Don’t touch her; my grandmother is staying here. Over my dead body, HAG says. [viewerville?] Miran shouts, she is staying! Azize launches another guilt grenade at Miran, have you forgotten your mother’s pain? Are you going to defend a woman who called your father a murderer? I protected you when you were a baby, and now you defend this liar?

Miran says he hasn’t forgotten anything. She is staying and we will talk. That’s it. Azize hisses, then take your wife and get out of my house. Azize walks and Miran follows. Sukran stops him.

There are obviously things you don’t know, Sukran says, your mother was miserable in that house. She suffered. Your father beat her, even while she was pregnant and that’s why you were born prematurely. She was afraid to go out. She only visited her father once. I would secretly visit her. [notice Esma’s look, she knows it’s true] Sukran adds, the last time I saw her before she died, she told me she was going to escape. [notice Reyyan’s face, something is clicking]

Flashback to Sukran and Dilsah. Esma is playing lookout for them. What has he done to you, Sukran asks her daughter. May God break that monster’s hands. This isn’t right. I can’t let you stay here. That man will kill you. Come with me, please.

Dilsah says she can’t leave her son there. Sukran replies, you can’t leave your child and I can’t abandon mine. We can get Miran later. There are laws in this country. We can fix this. Dilsah thinks the Aslanbeys are too powerful. She will never get Miran back and she can’t live without her son. She asks her mother to understand and she tells her mother she is planning to escape. Someone is going to help her. When everything is ready, she will send word and Sukran can come with her.

dondi356

Herc S2 #12 part 4

Sukran asks who is going to help. Dilsah says, I can’t tell you, but once I escape, that person will find you and bring you to me. You, me and Miran will start a new life together. Sukran worries it could be a trap from Mehmet. She tries to talk Dilsah into leaving now, saying Esma will take us to Miran. Dilsah replies Esma can’t do that. I have to go now before we get in trouble. She gives her mother a hug. Wait for word. It will be fine. We will be free of the Aslanbeys. End flashback.

Miran shouts, enough! Sukran won’t be quiet. She was your mother. Don’t get fooled by Azize’s crocodile tears. The Aslanbeys killed my daughter. No, Miran shakes his head as if he doesn’t want to hear. I don’t know any Hazar, Sukran tells him. But your father beat your mother and eventually killed her. Your grandmother did nothing. Sukran turns to the roaches, all those who heard her screaming are also guilty of killing your mother.

No…my mother…wasn’t killed, Miran says. It wasn’t my dad, it was Hazar Sadoglu! You can’t know, Sukran says. I do know, Miran shouts. Sukran tells him you only know what Azize has told you. Look at yourself! Look what she’s turned you into. She made you believe her lies. She silenced the others.

Sultana approaches Miran. It’s true. One way or another, your grandmother subjugated us all. Wasn’t Azize the one who forced you to divorce Gonul and ruin her life as well? You had to divorce Gonul as Azize ordered. Tell your grandmother. Sukran is surprised, you were married to Gonul? What about Reyyan?

Sukran says she can’t listen anymore. What has that woman done to you? How can you be alright with all of this? Rey says there are things you don’t know. I’ll tell you everything. Sukran says she couldn’t stand to hear another word. She tells Rey, this is my fault. This is my sin. I shouldn’t have left my grandson with this woman. Dilsah will never forgive me, she sighs. She asks for Esma to take her back to her room. She quietly tells Rey not to leave Miran alone. Rey follows Miran out of the konak.

ReyMir are at the hotel, out on the terrace, huddled in a blanket before a fire pit. She says, you haven’t said a word since we got here. What can I say? That I am responsible for all of this? Rey says, I know you feel trapped between you grandmothers. I can’t tell you who to believe. [oh yes you can!] But you tell me your grandmother (Azize) couldn’t have held on to a lie for 20 years, ruining her own life. Something she so fully believes can’t be a lie. It’s the same with Grannie Sukran. She’s spent 20 years suffering. Show her the same patience you show Azize. Listen, then decide with your heart.

Miran says he doesn’t have the strength to hear any more. He wants to stay at the hotel for the night. She wants to go home. That is the place where we should take refuge, not the place we should escape, she tells him. Our mission is to turn that place into our home. When we feel like we are falling apart we can leave, but we should always come back home. He nods, you are right again. Let’s go.

Hanife meets with Harun. It’s the start of the partnership. Hanife says she understands. You’re behind all of this, aren’t you? Yes, Harun replies, but only you and I know. Let’s keep it that way until the right time. Harun chuckles, Azize Aslanbey… I hope I get to see her face when she finds out that someone from the Aslanbey family is behind everything. [!!!] Hanife hopes to see the disappointment on her face, too. You will, Harun says, everyone will be there. But only you and me will know about the game.

Harun continues, I want you to do something. There’s a letter at the Sadoglu konak for Hazar, written by Dilsah. I need you to find it asap. What letter? What does it say? I wish I could lip read Turkish, because Harun’s mouth moves with no sound as we go to commercial.

dondi356

Herc S2 #12 part 5

ReyMir return to the konak. Rey says if he can’t check on Sukran, she will. Miran doesn’t know how to thank Rey for everything. “Iyi ki varsin” (glad I have you), he tells her. “Sende” (you too), she replies.

Rey enters Sukran’s room. She’s sad. He (Miran) isn’t coming. He will, Rey says, but just not right now. Keep your head up, don’t be sad. Miran was raised with a lot of lies. He can’t get used to the truth so fast. He needs time and he needs it with you. He will come back with his heart in his hands, like he did before. Sukran is teary. I waited so many years. I can keep waiting, but I hope he comes around before I die. Try to get some rest, Rey tells her.

Rey decides to do something to cheer up Miran. She goes to the kitchen and starts cooking. Soup, salad, maybe this will make him smile. Azize enters. So you think two ladles of soup will and a loaf of bread will make Miran believe you and light a fire in his heart? Wage your battle, but Miran will eventually find out what you and that woman who calls herself his grandmother are plotting. When it’s over, you won’t be here and I’ll be by his side, like I was when your father orphaned him.

You’re scared, aren’t you, Rey asks. Fear makes you talk. It’s useless, Miran will find the truth someday. Sukran and I will make sure. Azize says when that day arrives you and Sukran won’t be here. You won’t exist. Rey scoffs, you’d love that but don’t get your hopes up. Neither Sukran nor I are leaving. Rey steps up to Azize, when Miran finds out the truth, do you think he’ll let you stay? I’ll make sure he doesn’t. Rey takes the tray and leaves.

Rey enters the bedroom. Miran pretends to be asleep. She tries to wake him, you need to eat or you will get sick. He doesn’t stir. She settles in next to him, caressing his face, and he suddenly sits up and climbs on her. You think I will get sick, he asks? I am dying for you, that’s my illness. She giggles, Miran let go. He whispers, I like to see my eyes reflected in yours and I like how you look at me. Where else can I look when I’m talking to you, Rey replies [yes with you on top of me, millimeters away from my face]

dondi356

Herc S2 #12 part 6

He lets her up. He sees the food, you cooked for me? You are very strange, he says, despite all you have suffered, you always smile and make me try to forget all my sorrows. You’ve never stopped loving me… a man who’s never been loved. Even in spite of how much I’ve hurt you. You’ve never stopped looking at me in that beautiful way. Even if you feel like winter on the inside you are spring on the outside.

She brings the tray over to the bed. She says she didn’t season the salad because she didn’t now how much olive oil he likes. He says the salad is like his life before he met her…it had no flavor. He dresses the salad. He says, but my life after you has the perfect balance, he holds up the salad, now it’s delicious. She takes the salad and tells him to stop talking. She feeds him the soup.

He tells her, someone who loves you with all their heart and worries about you, can change everything. They make you a better person [I’m waiting, Miran] It’s like a miracle. You are my miracle, Reyyan. She teases him with the soup and he steals a kiss. She gasps, Miran! [geez, she’s married to him and slept with him once, what’s the problem?] He says, if you don’t kiss me, I’ll starve to death.

She says if you won’t eat, I’ll take the plates. Where are you going? Leave the tray. We were at the best part, he says. [yeah, but she wants no part] She starts to go. He stops her. He says you cooked, I’ll take the tray. As he exits the room, Esma comes out of Azize’s room. She says to give her the tray. He notices she has a blood pressure monitor in her hand.

What happened, he asks? Esma says Azize’s BP went up. She’s taken her meds and she’s calmer now. Miran wants to take her to the hospital but Esma says she didn’t want to go. She is resting now. This is nothing to worry about. We are getting older and age makes us weaker, she tells him. Miran is worried, but Esma says to leave Azize alone. She doesn’t like to be seen this way. She will be angry that I told you.

Miran stands in front of Azize’s door for a second, then goes back into his bedroom. He gets into bed next to Reyyan. She sees the look on his face and asks, did something happen? He tells her his stomach hurts. It’s like… I ate something made by someone who doesn’t know how to cook. I feel like a doomed husband. Ha, ha. They cuddle. She tells him he looked worried when he came back. If you are with me, I’m fine, he answers. Let’s go to sleep.

Cut to someone taking Azize’s boots from her room. It’s snowing and Miran stands outside the konak door with his back turned. He looks up and turns around when the konak door opens. The person places Azize’s boots outside the door. What’s happening, he asks? Why do you have my grandmother’s boots? Why are you placing them outside? We see Esma’s sad face. And Miran looks alarmed. [according to custom, a deceased persons shoes are placed outside the door of the house.]

And we are out.

ps I noticed I mislabled part 2 as part 1. I can't edit my posts. I hope it doesn't cause too much confusion.

What a spectacular recap, dondi356!!
I watched the episode, but I got even more from your recap than from the episode itself.

Of course, I loved your wonderful, abundant snarky comments. Among my favorites are two very short ones: "Over my dead body, HAG says. [viewerville?]" and "They make you a better person [I’m waiting, Miran]."

I really appreciated your insightful comment here: "the last time I saw her before she died, she told me she was going to escape. [notice Reyyan’s face, something is clicking]" Thanks for pointing this out. I think I missed it.

And wow, where did Firat get those massive avocados?

The part of the episode that interested me most was the scene between Harun and Hanife, especially when Harun says, "I hope I get to see her face when she finds out that someone from the Aslanbey family is behind everything." Yikes--can Harun be Gonul's brother?!! Their hair color and age seem about right.

There's so much more of interest, but I've got to stop now. MANY THANKS for this superb recap!

Herc

Thank you, dondi356. Great recap.

Not sure what was the point of Firat's outburst with Azize. I think he just informed her that the Sadoglu are reclaiming their rights to the hotel and was blaming her for that. Why do it so confrontationally? But it actually provoked Azize to try to get rid of Sukran, which wasn't wise. It backfired with so much info revealed.

When Miran started talking about salad as a metaphor of his life, I think Reyyan looked like "Oh, my! Another sappy speech is coming!" and after the speech she nodded impatiently as if saying "Yeah, yeah! Are you done yet?" and actually said "Well, if you don't stop talking like a Romeo you won't be able to eat." It was funny. A little later, after Miran joked about his stomach ache, Reyyan said "How funny!" and tried to tickle him but it had no effect, he shook his head as if saying "What are you doing?" and then raised his arm inviting her to cuddle, which she accepted with smile. I enjoyed their interaction that evening.

I'm sorry my recap will be delayed until tomorrow. Real life gets in the way again.
There were a lot of edits, some small and insignificant but some others should have been included, IMHO. Darcy, I agree it ruined the flow of the episode.

Missed this episode, sigh, and working long hrs this weekend. Will read and relish it tomorrow night when I get home. Thanks so much dondi356! It’s looks really good from where I’m sitting! You put so much into your recaps and it is appreciated more than you know!

Fatmagul #22 part 1

They cut so much from this. I had to leave a lot of the edits out or my recap would be at least 10 posts! I tried to include what was most important or a few things for continuity reasons.

Let’s start with a couple of cuts: We see Fatma hard at work, her coworker says she brought them luck. They haven’t had this many customers in a long time. Fatma serves a table. Erol gives her a smile and a nod.

Kerim and Emre set up the laptop. Kerim opens his old email account. There are tons of emails. He clicks on one from “Kristen Norton”. It says in English: Hi Kerim, I tried to call you, but I couldn't reach you. I’ll be coming to Istanbul with some friends for Christmas. I hope you will be free to join us as well. I’m sending you a photo from last New Year's Eve. And I’m also giving you my telephone number, which I think you’ve lost, once again. It would make me really happy if you called. Love, Kristen (and there’s her phone number)

Emre asks him if he knows English. Kerim says yes. And he saves the phone number. He clicks on the picture. It’s him with Kristen (she’s wearing a party mask) They are close together, smiling and holding drinks. Muka walks in to hang something up and listens. Emre asks, who is this girl? A friend, Kerim replies. A foreigner, Emre asks, where is she from? Muka rushes over to see and Kerim closes the picture in a hurry. Kerim tells Emre, let’s finish installing the programs. Muka wants to see the picture. Kerim says they are busy. Muka leaves.

This is where we come into the show. Emre asks, what’s up with that? Kerim responds, what do you mean? Emre motions to the laptop. Kerim says it’s nothing. She’s just an old friend. Emre snickers.

Mustafa comes to see Resat. Resat is in a meeting and he will have to wait. Ismail is there and gives him a dirty look. He’s there waiting for Munir. The assistant is making reservations for 8p at a restaurant for Resat and his in-laws. Mustafa is paying attention to this, looking at the business card the assistant is holding.

Inside the office, the rotten ricos are meeting with Resat and Munir and for once they were actually talking about work. Vural raises a question about a plan. Erdo says we discussed that but Vural reminds him they didn’t come to any conclusion. Vural loses his temper with Erdo. Resat says this is like a kindergarten.

Cut: Resat leaves the room and sees Mustafa waiting. Just what he needed. Selim is ticked that Mustafa is still around. Erdo cracks, does seeing him make your wound hurt? Get used to it. Munir goes out to see what Mustafa wants. Nothing, Mustafa tells him, and Munir goes off with Ismail.

The assistant leaves her desk and Mustafa swipes the restaurant card and he goes.

Meltem picks up her mom from the airport. Ender worries about the paparazzi. Everyone will learn your honeymoon was canceled. Meltem says she won’t play hide and seek again. Resat has made reservation for us tonight. We will be seen. The excuse will be the gastric bleed.

Cut: Ender says she’s also been investigating. Nothing yet but there is a woman she knows will be in Selim’s town. Maybe she can help, Ender says. Meltem doesn’t like the idea and says the subject is closed. Everything is okay. Are you sure, Ender asks? How were you convinced? Meltem says she talked to the ex fiancé. He works for the Yasarans. Ender is relieved and glad it got sorted out without Turaner suspecting anything.

Mustafa makes a reservation at the same restaurant as Resat.

Fatma is done for the day and gets complimented on her work. She gets her share of the day’s tips, 20 lira. Her own money. Later, she goes into a bakery and buys some tulumba (a fried dough treat) with her own money. She also buys a chocolate for Murat. She looks so happy.

Fatmagul #22 part 2

The rotten ricos talk. Erdo asks Vural what’s his problem. Selim says it’s Mustafa, and you aren’t even worried. Erdo thinks there is nothing to worry about, it’s under control. Vural says that Erdo scares him more than Mustafa. Erdo tells Vural he’s going crazy and he should go to a hospital. Vural says Erdo’s the one who’s crazy and obsessed. I was scared when you beat up Kerim and you confronted Fatmagul. The argument escalates. Vural says you didn’t go there to find Kerim. You wanted to see that girl. Selim says enough and has to hold Vural back. Vural tells Erdo he is disgusted by him.

Cut: Vural storms out and Selim follows. Ismail is in the hall and notices. He goes in to speak with Erdo. He asks why Mustafa was made their boss. Erdo says he should be pleased that his workload has decreased. Ismail can’t understand why the man he locked in the basement a couple of days ago is now his boss. I have been the ears, eyes, hands and arms of this company, he says. Ismail threatens, I could make one phone call. I kept all of your secrets. Is it fair? Erdo agrees it isn’t, but it wasn’t him who made this decision. Erdo says he never forgets a favor. Let’s have tea and talk some more. Ismail agrees.

Kerim and Emre are still working on the laptop. Rahmi asks questions, about “chatting” with people on the internet and how you can use it to find everything. Emre says they will explain everything in time. Muka listens.

Kerim excuses himself from the room. We see him on his phone, guess who he is calling.
Muka takes this opportunity to ask Emre to find an old school friend, “Salih Mercan”. Rahmi asks who is this guy? An old friend from school she replies, we sat next to each other. They find tons of Salihs. Rahmi asks Emre to search for him.

Muka goes to the kitchen and she looks upset. [who is Salih, Mukaddes?]

Rahmi is disappointed there are no results for him. Kerim comes back into the house. Emre asks Kerim if he called his amiga. Kerim called her to tell her he is married. She didn’t answer the phone.

Muka has a flashback. It looks like she and Salih are in a storeroom and he’s trying to get busy with her. She’s trying to put on the brakes. She drops a bomb on him, I’m pregnant. He doesn’t care at the moment, all he wants is sex. End flash. Muka is crying at the memory. Rahmi comes into the kitchen and sees Muka is upset. She brushes him off.

Fatma comes home with Murat. Kerim notices she is still wearing her ring. He is pleased. Rahmi is proud of his sister, who has bought them dessert using her own money.

Kerim brings Murat into the living room to see the laptop. Muka tells Fatma that Kerim bought it and she can use it for her studies. Muka notices that Fatma is wearing her ring and comments. Fatma reminds her it’s just for appearances. This convo happens in view and earshot of Kerim. Fatma adds, this ring means nothing to me. I didn’t wear it for him. it’s so no one bothers me. Muka says well done to Fatma and she gives Kerim a wink.

Meryem comes into the kitchen and Muka gives her one of the treats that Fatma bought with the money she earned. Fatma tells them she will bring money home every week. Kerim is showing the laptop to Rahmi and Murat but he’s also trying to listen in on what the ladies are talking about in the kitchen. Fatma sounds so happy as she talks about her work and that makes Kerim happy, too.

Kerim and Meryem look for places to live online. Muka asks if they can find the Yasarans on the internet…their address? Meryem grunts a yes [she already found it!]

Rahmi and Fatma are working on dinner in the kitchen. He asks her if they can put a plate out for Kerim, so he doesn’t have to eat by himself. She says okay. [!]

Fatmagul #22 part 3

Kerim gets a call back from Kristen. He answers, Hello Kristen, as he steps out the door. Muka hears. Uh oh, he’s talking to a girl, Muka announces. She tells Fatma that Kerim checked his email and there was one from a foreign girl. So what, Fatma says. She sent a picture of them together from last NYE, Muka says, and adds, I think she’s his ex. Fatma raises her voice, why should I care? Why are you yelling, Muka says, I thought you should know. Fatma shouts, he can do whatever he wants, it’s not my business! She leaves the kitchen and goes to Meryem.

Kerim’s convo with Kristen uninterrupted: Ke: a lot of changes happened in my life. I settled in Istanbul. I am married. Kr: congratulations! Ke: Thank you, it’s been a few months. We married in September. Ke: when are you coming? Ok, then, of course, why not. We can talk about it when you come. Ok, this is my new phone number. See you, bye, bye. [It’s funny to hear Engin speak English because he really doesn’t know the language.]

Muka has been trying to listen to Kerim’s convo but she can’t understand a word of it [lol] Meryem explains Kristen is a friend, she came to town as a tourist with her friends. Kerim was their tour guide. They stayed in contact. [Look at Fatma’s face, trying not to be interested]

Kerim comes back into the house. Muka asks was that Kristen? Kerim says, yes, she didn’t know I was in Istanbul. She said she got a new job here. She’s been visiting since November. She is working on a historical house and she asked me if I wanted to do the iron work.

Muka asks, does she want to meet us? No answer. Meryem says Kristen is an interior architect. She saw Kerim’s workshop a few times. She knows how good his work is. Kerim adds, I told her that I am married. He looks at Fatma, who looks away. We will talk about the job when she gets here, he says.

It’s dinner time and Fatma says she’s not hungry. Kerim tells her to go to the table, he will eat in his room. Fatma says it has nothing to do with him. She’s just not hungry. Cut: Kerim passes through the kitchen. Muka asks, is she jealous? Kerim says he will eat in his room. Fatma opens her books to study. She’s clearly not happy.

Mustafa is in his car as he waits for Asu to come out, he’s arguing with his mother on the phone.. He’s upset they left… blah…blah…blah… Asu comes out and she’s dressed as if she’s going to turn a trick. Mustafa is angry. You can’t dress like that when you are out with me. Go change. She doesn’t get it. He shouts, change your clothes! And less makeup! If you want a normal life with me, you have to do what I say! Wear one of the new outfits I bought you.

Mustafa notices Sami lurking nearby in a car. He runs towards him and shouts, leave her alone! Sami drives off. He growls at Asu, change! hurry! She complies.

Resat’s party arrives at the restaurant. Meltem and Selim run into friends. They ask when they came back from the honeymoon. Meltem says they didn’t go. Selim had an operation. If you want to talk about the boring dinner convo, please add it.

Muka is alone on the laptop. She’s searching for Salih. She writes some numbers. Fatma catches her. Muka says it’s info on a house.

Mustafa and Asu show up at the same resto as Resat. Mustafa briefly stops at the table for a quick greeting. Resat gets instant indigestion. Meltem and Selim look queasy. Turaner comments that Resat must treat his employees well if they are eating at the same restaurant as him.

Mustafa tells Asu not to look at that table. She realizes they are the Yasarans and starts to talk about them. Mustafa gets angry and causes a spill at the table that disturbs the other patrons. Asu stands up and is about to make her own scene. Mustafa tells her to sit and behave.

dondi356

Fatmagul #22 part 4

Resat confronts Mustafa at his table. Mustafa tells him he spoke with Meltem today and now he understands why they want him so close. What did you tell her, a shocked Resat asks? Don’t worry, Mustafa says, I didn’t tell her any different. But maybe he will if Resat doesn’t keep the perks coming.

Vural is staking out Fatma’s house again. This time Rahmi is outside and notices. He shouts, hey, who are you? Fatma hears, so does Kerim. Vural drives off. Kerim asks for a description of the car. Rahmi doesn’t remember. Fatma wonders if it was one of “them”. Rahmi thinks not.

Fatma is sleeping and she is awakened by a light and someone’s shadow in the window. She runs out back and looks around. She runs to Kerim’s door, wake up, wake up. She is caught in the light and blinded as a figure approaches. It’s only Kerim. What happened, he asks. I came to see if someone was outside. He smiles, it was me. He tells her he couldn’t sleep so he decided to take a look around. I’m sorry if I woke you, he says.

He tells her she did good to come and get him. Murat is with my brother, she says, Meryem isn’t well. Where else am I supposed to go? The neighbor? He smiles, I’m glad you came. She tells him to stop smiling. Okay he won’t smile, but he smiles even more. He tells her to go inside, it’s cold. He shines the light on her feet to light her way and she tells him to shut it.

Next morning, Muka makes a call to Salih’s business. When he gets on the phone she hangs up.

Kerim comes to pick up Fatma from work in a new blue truck. Erol and Fatma go over. Kerim says to Fatma, want to go for a ride? Erol encourages, get in your husband's new car. They drive.

Fatma asks Kerim why he comes to her workplace. I wanted to show you the new truck, he says. You should learn to drive he tells her, get your license. I’ll teach you. She says she will do it herself and take a course. She wants to stop at the bookstore to buy a dictionary.

Muka is out and she runs into Rahmi and Murat. Where is she going? Muka says she’s meeting Beyhan. Murat wants to go with her, but she tells them to go home.
Kerim and Fatma are in the bookstore and Fatma spies Muka getting into a cab. She runs out and calls her, but the cab drives off. They wonder where she’s going. Kerim hopes she’s not doing anything behind their backs. Like what, Fatma asks. Meeting with Munir, he replies.

Muka has another flashback. She’s been talking to Salih and crying. He tells her that he will come back in 10-15 days, wait for me. Are you going to bring your family, she asks? We will get married? Yes, but we must find a solution, he says. I can’t do this alone, she says, it’s a shame. You’ve got to do it, he tells her. We are getting married anyway, she replies. Why must I abort? I want this baby. Why do you want a baby right away, he asks? He has to leave. She wants assurance that he will return. I’m going to die if you don’t come back. End flashback. Muka cries.

Kerim and Fatma arrive home. Kerim asks Rahmi and Murat if they want to go for a ride in the new truck. Kerim tells Rahmi to get Meryem but she’s asleep. Murat mentions they saw Muka. Rahmi says she was going to meet with Beyhan. Uh, oh…. Fatma and Kerim look at each other.

Muka meets with Salih.

A lot of their convo was cut and the dialog was changed in translation. I’m taking this from the Turkish: Muka arrives at the warehouse and calls out to Salih. He looks like a deer in the headlights. He says what a surprise. Let’s go talk and have tea. How are the people in the town? She doesn’t know, she’s been living in Istanbul. He asks how she found him. She says it was a coincidence. She saw the sign that said “Mercan Wholesale Foods” and noticed there was an Izmir branch. So I came in. I guess that means we were supposed to meet, he says.

dondi356

Fatmagul #22 part 5

He looks at her wedding ring, you got married? Yes, so did you, she replies. He has two daughters. She says she only has one son, Murat. He asks about her parents and she says they moved in with an aunt in Antalya. He tells her they years did her well. You look more beautiful and mature. Thank you, she says, I’m different than the Mukaddes you knew. He says I like this Mukaddes better.

Cut: Meryem is alone in the house and a mailman knocks with a special delivery. A large envelope and inside, is another envelope addressed to Kerim. It’s from his father, Fahrettin, who lives in Australia.

Cut: While Kerim drives, Rahmi says let’s go to Beyhan’s and pick up Muka. Fatma and Kerim make excuses.

Muka says it’s time to go. Salih says so soon? We haven’t seen each other in a long time. Muka says that’s his fault. He says, no excuse will make up for it, but….you don’t know what I’ve been through. I was going back for you. But when I got here, my father was starting a new business. So I had to stay to help. Did your father also change your phone number, she snarks. After we set up the business, he says, I went into the military. When I came back I took over the business. Then I heard you were married. Muka says she had many suitors. She got married that summer. Salih says it was meant to be.

Rahmi calls Muka and she doesn’t answer. He says he’s going to call Beyhan. Fatma says, don’t. We saw her getting into a taxi. Maybe she was going to see Munir. Rahmi is confused. Meryem says they can ask Muka when she comes back. Kerim tells Rahmi not to worry.

Meryem gives Kerim the letter and he immediately tears it up. Why did you do that, Meryem asks? I don’t need it. If you talk to him (the Muhktar from their town who forwards them), tell him not to send anymore letters. Kerim leaves the room.

Fatma asks why he ripped the letter. Meryem explains it was from his father. Every time he receives a letter, he rips it up. But his father never stops sending them. Why does he hate his father, Fatma asks. For abandoning his mother, Meryem replies. Fatma asks, she committed suicide after that? Meryem nods. Fatma asks, he abandoned his wife and child just to go to Australia?

Kerim comes back into the kitchen and Fatma abruptly stops the convo. Kerim goes to the shed.

Rahmi tries calling Muka again with no luck. He tells his sister, why does she (Muka) behave like this? She always does things that hurt. She says “this will be better for Fatmagul” Rahmi cries, I could never take care of you the way you deserve. I couldn’t be a brother for you. I couldn’t protect you. He starts hitting himself in the head. If my head wasn’t like this, I could take care of you. Fatma tells him it’s passed, don’t cry. She assures him that she only feels safe with him. You’re my family, my life. They hug and cry. Meryem has heard from her room and she’s crying, too.

Muka says she really has to go. Salih wants to send her home with some food. It’s just a little gift. He takes her hand and flirts. Estas preciosa, he tells her. She asks, did you think you could apologize with garbanzos and rice? He kisses her cheeks. He gives her his phone number. We can go to a beautiful place to meet. We will have more time. This was a short visit. Aren’t you afraid of your wife, Muka asks. Can’t two old friends talk, he replies. She leaves.

Meryem talks to Kerim in the shed. Fatma takes a piece of Fahrettin’s letter from the trash and opens it. She reads: forgive me, Dad.

Meryem asks Kerim why he rips the letters without reading them. Read them, she says. Can’t you think beyond it? Maybe he is sick, maybe he needs you. That’s enough, Kerim says. You say the same after each letter. I won’t read the letters, I won’t see him. He doesn’t exist for me. Fatma is very curious, she keeps looking out the kitchen window as she prepares the meal

Fatmagul #22 part 6

Mustafa doodles guns on a paper. Vural walks in for business and sees this. Mustafa crumples the paper.

Leman is visiting with the Yasaran women. She tells how Vural is a mess since the incident. Perihan asks about Semsi and hopes they are not having problems in their marriage. No, it’s not good. She says it is like living with two strangers in the house. Perihan changes the subject. She says that Munir wants to get married again… to a young woman. Leman looks sick. She asks, Meltem’s cousin? Yes, it’s a new relationship but this is the most excited he’s been since his divorce. Leman breaks down and blames it on Vural.

Meltem gets shares in the company as a wedding gift.

Muka returns home with her goodie bag from Salih and Rahmi jumps all over her with questions. She says that Beyhan wasn’t home, so she went shopping. She tells them she took a taxi to Uskudar. Beyhan told her about cheaper stores there. [They cut when Fatma asked her if she went to see Munir. Muka denies it. Rahmi is satified]

Cut: Erdo tells Munir that Ismail is upset about Mustafa and knows too much. They argue about Mustafa. Erdo thinks he’s dangerous. He mentions the gun is no insurance against Mustafa. Munir thinks it’s under control. Erdo also finds out that Munir is dating Gaye.

Cut: Erdo sneaks into Resat’s office finds Vural trying to open the safe. He accuses him of trying to get the gun. I think they both want that gun.

Muka is very subdued during dinner. She looks at Rahmi and has a flashback. Muka walks out of the public hospital. [Cut: she was there to get the abortion but she loses her nerve when her name is called.] She’s crying. She sits at a picnic table and makes a call. The call doesn’t go through. We see Rahmi leaving the hospital, crying. What will I do? A friend tells him it is the will of God. You have to be strong, now you have to take care of your sister.

Cut: the friends tell him to sit at the same table as Muka, while they take care of more paperwork for him. He sees Muka crying and offers condolences. Then he starts to tell her about the accident. Muka gives her condolences.

Rahmi says what do I do now? I have a little sister, no one else. How can I take care of her with this head of mine. I can’t do it all. Muka asks, what do you do for a living. We have a dairy. You can see the wheels turning in Muka’s head. End flashback.

Everyone notices that Muka is very quiet and uneasy. They ask if she’s ok. She says she’s full and leaves the table. Rahmi follows her to their bedroom. He wants to know what is wrong. He presses her for an answer. She says she is tired.

Kerim comes into the kitchen to say he’s going out. Meryem wants him to eat before he goes but he leaves.

Mustafa is waiting outside of Asu’s place. She comes home and he questions her. She says she just needed a few things. He told her not to go out. He grabs her and says, let’s go, and practically drags he back to her place. He says who did you fix your hair for? She asks him calm down… the neighbors will hear. He shoves her through the doorway. He shouts, where did you go? Shopping. He goes nuts and throws the stuff. He accuses her of turning tricks.

She says she is not lying. She loves him. She puts up with his outbursts. I’m trying to forget who I am but you keep reminding me. She says I would never be capable of cheating on you. They argue more and Asu says, you would never treat Fatmagul like this. Musto doesn’t like her saying that name. Why? It stains in my mouth? Fatmagul, Fatmagul, Fatmagul! Mustafa smacks her hard across the face! He leaves.

Fatma asks Rahmi what’s wrong with Muka. She’s not in a good mood, he says. She’s tired. It happens.

dondi356

Fatmagul #22 part 7

We see Muka cuddling in bed with Murat. I hope we can leave here, she says, we will have a new house, you will study in a new school and be happy. Murat says, my dad, too. Him too, Muka says, the three of us will start over. [but who’s the daddy?]

Meryem tells Fatma they posted the exam dates. There’s not much time. Fatma writes them down. Meryem thinks she will do fine.

Fatma asks her, why did Kerim’s father abandon them? Meryem looks uncomfortable. If it’s too personal, Fatma says, don’t tell me, forget it. There was a story, Meryem says, there was another woman. A man who loved another. A boy who waited for his father’s return each night. A mother who couldn’t recover her honor. A family divided. Fatma looks sad.

Mustafa has cooled off and goes back to Asu. She cries. He tells her not to. Her hair is beautiful. Don’t do this, Mustafa, she says. I beg you not to hit me. I couldn’t bear it if you did it again. Sometimes I can’t control myself, he says, I don’t know what to do. Harming me won’t cure you, she tells him. It only hurts me. I’m not as strong as you believe. I’m tired, I’m hurt. If you want to leave my life, just go. They make up.

It’s late, Fatma is still by the window with her books. Emre is helping a very drunk Kerim home. They see her in the window. Emre says she waited for you. Kerim smiles, she waited for me. Emre says, pull yourself together, she might be angry and I won’t be able to save you. Emre worries that Fatma will be mad at him because he didn’t stop Kerim from drinking so much. Kerim tells Emre to go.

Fatma comes to open the door. Emre says Kerim was drinking on an empty stomach. He says he will come in and help him get to bed and then leave. Fatma says she will do it. don’t worry. Emre leaves.

Fatma warns Kerim not to wake anyone. And he promptly lurches over, almost knocking into Fatma. This is a bad feeling for Fatma. Kerim apologizes. Don’t be scared. Go to sleep, she tells him. Kerim staggers to the bathroom. He washes his face. Fatma goes to the kitchen to make coffee. Kerim looks at the ring on his finger. We see that Fatma is still wearing hers.

dondi356

Fatmagul #22 part 8

Kerim is surprised to see Fatma in the kitchen. What are you doing, he asks. She pours the coffee. He apologizes to her again. I didn’t want to come home like this. She says nothing and puts the coffee on the table. He thanks her and she nods.

Kerim sees the letter in the trash. He looks at Fatma and says, how easy it is to ask for forgiveness. Fatma says, it is easy when one doesn’t know the pain of the other person. If you knew, you wouldn’t dare to ask for forgiveness. Fatma goes to leave and Kerim says, one can deserve forgiveness. After she leaves he says, how can one forgive someone if they don’t believe? Kerim drinks the coffee, then shuts the kitchen light and leaves.

Emre brings fish to Erol’s. He talks to Fatma in the kitchen. How is Kerim? Fine, she says. You’re not mad, right? No. Emre says, he (Kerim) was very emotional last night. That’s what made him so drunk. He was very talkative. He is very much in love with you. Fatma can hardly look at Emre. She keeps busy with her work. [Turkish] May God never separate you. Fatma asks if he wants tea. Emre has to go, his father is waiting.

Rahmi shows up at the restaurant. Fatma wonders what’s wrong. Nothing. Rahmi says that Muka was cleaning and he wanted to stay out of the way. Murat is in school and Meryem is at the herbalist. They bring Rahmi a tea and a dessert.

We see Muka dressed up and ready to go on her “date”. Muka gets a call as she exits the house. She doesn’t see Meryem returning. Muka says, I’m coming. Meryem ducks down and watches. It’s not easy to leave the house, Muka says, I just caught the chance to leave. I’ll take a taxi. How do I find this place? I’ll call you as soon as I arrive.

Meryem is shocked. She hurries in the house and grabs a wallet and the keys to the truck. Muka gets in a cab and Meryem takes off to follow. Meryem calls Kerim at work. Mukaddes is up to something, Meryem says, she left the house in secret. She is sure she is meeting with Munir. Meryem tells Kerim she is following Muka. Kerim tells her not to do that. Meryem won’t turn back. If Muka is creating problems for Fatma, I won’t allow it. Kerim says to call him later. He's disgusted.

And we are out.

Fatmagul

Dear Dondi, thank you for another fantastic recounting of all the drama as our story moves on . I look forward to your insights .

I couldn't understand why Kerim got drunk when he has been trying so hard to be patient yet steadfast in winning fatmagul over and convincing her that he won't harm her and will stay with her to protect her . I guess he met Emre , and since Kerim hadn't eaten dinner, he got drunk quickly and then started confiding to Emre about his love for Fatmagul. Emre is a friend!y guy who has been a good friend to the whole family , but he and his family are a bit nosy. Getting drunk was a bad move because it scared fatmagul to see Kerim drunk like he was on that awful night . Just the smell of alcohol on him probably upset her. So it's two steps forward and one step back.

I like the way the characters are coping with the trauma of that night while attempting to live a normal lives....grocery shopping , cooking, cleaning, buying a laptop , making a garden, feeding the birds, etc

Muka's past is being revealed to us.

We also now know that Kerim has a friend who speaks English . Hmmm. He is a gorgeous man, so we shouldn't be surprised .

Dondi, as an ESL teacher, I could tell that Engin was not fluent in English. I would be happy to teach him.

Ironically, we are now seeing that Fatmagul dodged a bullet even weakwilled, dim Mustafa rejected her. Now he is taking his self hatred out on Asu. Nasty idiot. We are starting to see which characters are strong and resilient and which are sinking lower and lower .

The three ricos are all reacting very differently to the mess they started. Vural is a very loose canon . Erd thinks he can control everyone. Selim seems out of it .

Fatmagul

Dondi, thank you thank you thank you thank you! You are a legend!

I knew there was all kinds of scenes missing in there and I so appreciate your letting us know what was missing.

There was something so tender about the scene where Fatma comes home from work. First Kerim sees her through the window and gets up to go open the door for her. On the surface it looks like he is just showing Erme out but he knows she is there, and he wasn't going to get up from the table until he saw her. Then when he opened the door he seemed almost startled by seeing her even though he knew she was there. Then when he says to Murat 'come with me, I want to show you something' you just know it is Fatma he is really talking to, but of course she doesn't go. Then when she is in the kitchen talking and he is practically climbing over the table trying to be in her orbit. It was so cute and not as sad as usual since everyone was in a good mood. Erme is right, he is clearly very much in love.

Rahmi being upset he wasn't on google was cute as was his pretending the mouse was a mouse. He is such a good hearted man. He deserves much better than Muka and it's heartbreaking how he wants to be able to protect Fatma but he can't.

Muka took pathetic to a whole new level. So she really thinks the man who used her for sex, ordered her to get an abortion and then abandoned her without a backward glance is going to be her knight in shining armor?? That is so sad. Meanwhile she has a good man and she doesn't value him at all.

I said it before I thought it again watching this if Mustafa wasn't totally unhinged I would admire his style. Sitting there at work doodling guns on your notepad while you are working for the men who are (or should be) your enemies?? It's bone chilling. It's the most creepy subtle threat and Vural was totally wigged. Come to think of it, maybe I am just a fan of the writers!!! This is very well written!

The look on Kerim's face when he said 'she waited up for me!' I can see how the storyline with his dad is going to parallel. Kerim wants to be forgiven for an unforgivable act but can he forgive his father for the unforgivable? I say he would have to, you can't find true forgiveness unless you can also give it.

Fatmagul

Dondi356, with the cuts, you recapped three episodes instead of the usual two! Thank you very much.

When Fatmagul was done with her work she exited the restaurant still holding the 20 lira bill in her hand. She looked at it and smiled with content, then looked again and smiled again, then looked again still smiling and put it in her pocket. She felt so good. She looked at the ring on her finger, took it off, considered it and put it back on. I think having the ring on shows that her self-respect and dignity allow her to wear the ring, even if just for show.

The talk about Kristen irritated Fatmagul. Hmm.. It was amusing watching her. She tried to convince herself that she is not interested, unsuccessfully.

I liked how they filmed the night shadow scene. The alarming music, nervous Fatmagul rushing to Kerim's door, sudden light blinding her and her scared face. Then it's quiet and we see Kerim appear behind the light. Fatmagul breathes out. It is safe, it is only Kerim.

What triggered Kerim's drinking was his father's letter. Darcy, no doubt there are parallels in Fatmagul/Kerim and Kerim/father situations. Maybe that is why Fatmagul is so curious about it. In a way, she can understand how he feels. Will she counsel him? I think she already did with their exchange about forgiveness.

I have been so busy with work and family; I am just now getting to the Thursday/Friday episodes watching and reading the fabulous recaps!

novelera, your recap made me laugh in so many places with all that snarky-snark! Thank you! I am very curious and confused with the whole Hanife/Harun alliance and yes, I hope Gul doesn’t wet the bed. I am going to be mesmerized watching the whereabouts of that doll!

dondi356, wow, wow. What a recap! The episode was just chocked full of stuff/hints and drama. I did laugh when Miran told Reyyan and Sultana to stay in the car and they both promptly hopped out! That Midyat teleporter works magic to get Miran back to the WWE Grannie courtyard match while they were in mid-argument.

This was the key for me in the episode: “Harun chuckles, Azize Aslanbey… I hope I get to see her face when she finds out that someone from the Aslanbey family is behind everything.” Now we know for sure it is an Aslanbey who is the Note Master. Long lost relative? Sultana’s not so dead son? Very, very interesting.

Lucio, I know folks get annoyed with Miran, but I like the interaction with Reyyan and Miran when they are alone. I do think he is trying.

Reyyan sure did give it to Azize in the pipes in the kitchen! Glad she is not at all afraid.

Thanks again novelera and dondi356. I am interested to see if Azize really is dead on Monday, or what the heck is going on.

Herc

Thanks everyone.

Juanita, Harun could be Sultana’s son or he’s working for him. I think Carmella mentioned Azize’s husband had siblings. Could be one of them as well. Who ever it is, they know a lot of secrets, so it makes sense it’s family.

Lucio, yes, Rey tried to tickle Miran and it had no effect. Thanks for mentioning this. Sometimes I think Miran is an android. I liked the salad metaphor, too, partly because I like seeing food in dizis & TNs.

That was Miran’s dream at the end, right? I wish Esma was really placing Azize’s boots outside the door. Miran went to bed knowing that Azize wasn’t well. Add what Esma said, “We are getting older and age makes us weaker”, and it worked its way into his sleep. He’s probably going to freak out and run back to Azize’s side and do nothing to upset her.

Thanks for watching, reading and for your very insightful comments. I enjoy reading them. It was a very long recap and it could have been longer. It was over 3 hours’ worth of dizi. The details are so important in this dizi. Especially the non-verbal details. So much to discuss.

We are currently about 3/4 of the way through Turkish ep 24 out of 80. A lot more drama to go.

This dizi is based on a novel of the same name. The author is named in the credits: Vedat Türkali. I haven’t read the book or watched the movie that was made from it. I heard that there are differences between the dizi and the other works. Anyway, I think the screenwriters did a marvelous job of (re)telling the story. The cast and direction are excellent.

Susanlynn, I’d like Engin to teach me Turkish! Very interesting to see how each person handles the trauma. Yep, some are sinking and others rising and maybe not the ones you would expect. Indeed, it seems like Fatma dodged a bullet with Mustafa. He’s not worthy of Asu either.

Darcy, the Muka/Salih thing is sad. Now you can see why she always harped on Fatma to be a good girl, don’t get into any trouble. She was almost obsessed with thinking Fatma slept with Mustafa.

Forgiveness is a huge theme in this dizi. Forgiveness of others, forgiveness of one’s self.

Lucio, thanks for mentioning that Fatma took off the ring and immediately put it back on. I thought I had that in my draft, but I guess I edited out somehow! Lol Note she hasn’t taken the ring off at home either. Kerim left his in the bathroom and had to go back to get it!

Fatma will keep denying it but she’s curious about Kerim. And running to Kerim when she thought there was trouble, was telling.

I thought it was so sweet when Rami asked if he could set a place at the table for Kerim . Rami with his pure heart recognized early on that Kerim was a good person and would protect Fatmagul. I think Rami likes having another man in the family and is starting to consider Kerim as a big brother whom the whole family can count on .Rami also likes kind, good hearted Meryem and sees what a great support she is to his beloved sister. They are all becoming a family unit .

Fatmagul

Yes, it was definitely touching that Rhami asked about setting a place for Kerim and it would have been the first time Fatma agreed to eat with him. Too bad that phone call from Kristen she *didn't* care about ruined it!

WOW dondi356! Excellent, excellent recap! I don’t feel like I missed a thing! Such good reveal moments this episode, especially from Granny Sukran! Azize’s goose is about to be cooked 20 times over, and it’s about time! I’m sorry this is re-traumatizing Miran, but the truth with set him free, as the saying goes! He’s a little crazy anyway with his mood shifts, so a bit more crazy to carry him over to the other side of the mountain definitely won’t hurt! Honestly Azize knows she’s a liar, but she’s bought into it so much that I think she believes it to some deep degree. She’s like a tsunami that can’t be stopped no matter how much the truth is revealed! Now I wonder exactly who Harun is, though it doesn’t surprise me that he’s from the Aslanbey camp.

Go Firat! That’s all I have to say there! I think he’s an Aslanbey too, but only time will reveal if that’s true.

I also love your description of Reymir moments. They are so caring of one another’s feelings , and I like when they’re being playful. Carrying Miran’s load has to be a burden though Reyyan does it willingly. I just hope Miran doesn’t ruin it all with his frequent blow ups. I hope this journey to the truth calms him and gives him peace in some way. He clearly loves Azize, and I think he will even after the paint dries. Hahaha, that Miran took the “ telenovela transporter” back to the Aslanbey fort! It must’ve been the very next scene when he arrived there???? Don’t mess with his granny Sukran y’all! Lol! Looking forward to tonight’s episode and how Azize will weasel her way out of this one via Miran’s dream…..it’s gotta be a dream!

Thanks again for the recap! I completely enjoyed it!!
