Fatmagul

I'm in the middle of recapping Thursdays's show. Lot of edits to review. Sorry for the delay.

fatmagul

Yikes, dondi, you never need to apologize for anything! I think you also deserve that Recappers Medal of Honor™.

Fatmagul #38 part 1

I know this is very long. They cut tons of stuff in this episode. I mean tons. No way I could include everything I thought was somewhat important or interesting. I can explain at a later time if something seems confusing.

They cut: Asu checking out of the hotel that night.

Kerim has been sitting under that tree all day. Mustafa has been just off shore in the boat. Looks like Vural is headed for that same spot. Kerim finally gets up and goes to his truck. Kerim turns his lights on and they shine right on Vural. Kerim jumps out of the truck and follows Vural on to the beach. Kerim calls out, Vural…you returned to the scene of the crime. I knew you would do this. Kerim brings him to the ground and starts pounding him. Why didn’t you tell the truth?! Why didn’t you?! Mustafa sees this from the boat.

Kerim pulls Vural up and says, we are going to the police now and you are going to tell the truth! Vural shouts, I am not going back to that place! It’s better if you kill me! Mustafa has docked the boat and comes ashore and watches. Kerim gives Vural a few more punches to convince him to come. Vural says, kill me. Kerim says you owe this to Fatmagul. You have to do it if you want to have a clean conscience. It’s the only way. Let’s go.

Vural shouts, No! He pushes Kerim. They won’t let me die! Kill me! I can’t stand it anymore! Kill me, please! Kerim gives a good punch that knocks Vural to the ground. You have to do this for Fatmagul, Kerim repeats. I beg you. For Fatmagul’s good, you must tell the truth.

Vural says he sees her every night in his dreams. [Turkish] She haunts my dreams as herself from that night. Vural picks up a stone and holds it out to Kerim. Once again he asks, kill me. Kerim stares at him like he is crazy. When Kerim does nothing, Vural starts smashing the rock on his own head. Kerim rushes him and takes the stone.

What are you doing, Kerim asks? We are going to the police now. Vural shouts, I will lie again, I know I will. I’m not going back to prison! Kerim gets into his truck and drives off. Mustafa is still watching at a distance.

Kerim almost collides with at taxi as he turns onto the road. Vural is still on the beach, crying. Mustafa makes his move. What did you do to Fatmagul?! Vural runs towards Mustafa and lets out a yell. Mustafa slugs Vural and he falls, hitting his head on a rock. It looks like Vural is dead. Mustafa needs a moment to recover from the shock and then he takes off running.

We see Kerim wipe his bloody hand on his shirt. Kadir and Kerim cross paths. They both stop. Kadir asks, where have you been? We have to go to the police, Kerim replies. Kadir sees Kerim’s hand and the blood on his shirt. He’s alarmed. What did you do? I did nothing, Kerim says, I fought with Vural. Kadir rips into Kerim, are you stupid? What are you doing? Why do you insist on fighting with them?!

Kerim says he didn’t want to fight. He came back to the scene of the crime. Oh, the scene of the crime, Kadir shouts in frustration, my God, what did you do? Did you hurt him? No, Kerim says, I lost control and hit him a few times when I first saw him. [Turkish] We need to go to the police, I think he will talk this time.

Kadir is furious. Do you know how you hurt Fatmagul? Damn you, Kerim! Can’t you control your emotions for once? Use your head! Kerim says he will go by himself. Kadir says [Turkish] he didn’t talk before the judge, so now he will talk to the police? Explain to them how you beat him to make him talk. Assume that he talks tonight. What about tomorrow? He will retract his statement and say he was beaten! Where is he now, Kadir asks. At that place.

Fatmagul #38 part 2

Kadir continues, I bet he’s there waiting for the police. You act like a child! What is happening with you? Go to the hotel, right now, you hear me? You have to be with Fatmagul. And the police, Kerim asks? Kadir will handle that.

Mustafa brings the boat back to the dock. There are guys there hanging out and having some drinks. One of them calls him over to have a drink with them. He turns down the invite, his mother is waiting for him. I was sailing around, I missed it a lot, he tells them. Tell the captain I brought the boat back on time. I just went around the island and back. The guys say ok and good night.

Fatma is sitting out by the water, looking rather sad. Kerim comes to her [good he changed his shirt] How come you aren’t sleeping, he asks? The sun will be up soon. I’m thinking, she replies. He sits next to her. What are you thinking?

This won’t work, she says tearily, we can’t fight against them. That’s not true, he tells her. We can’t do it, Kerim, I give up. How could you say that, he asks. I say it because it’s true, I’m tired. I can’t. Please listen, he says. No, you listen, she tells him. We will lose control if we continue like this. [Turkish] you have already become a different man. You will lose yourself even more. As we keep losing, and they keep prolonging, the more anguished we become. Kerim swears to her he won’t lose control again. [is he making another promise he can’t keep?]

Kerim urges Fatma not to give up. She asks, is there some other place we can go together and not look back? I can’t breathe here. Kerim says we still have hope. We have, she asks? Yes. They both have tears. He gives her a gentle kiss on the cheek that she doesn’t refuse. He wipes one of her tears and they hug.

Mustafa gets ready to leave. Halide doesn’t want him to go so soon. But he’s got things to do in Istanbul. He asks for her blessing, hakkını helal et. Helal olsun, Halide replies. Emin has come out. He asks, why are you talking as if you won’t return? It’s only because I don’t know when I will be back, Musto says. Halide entrusts him to God and Musto gets in his car. She throws water behind him as he drives off.

Things are looking a little better in the morning. Kerim has checked them out of the hotel. Kadir has already left with the others. Fatma says good, then she won’t have to see Muka’s face.

Mustafa panics as a police car with siren on comes up behind him. They just wanted to pass.

Kerim loads the bags into the truck and they are all about to get in when that police car pulls up. The cops get out. Kerim Ilgaz? Your lawyer informed us you had a fight with Vural Namli last night. Kerim says that’s right. Fatma says it was nothing, Kerim was provoked. It’s not that simple the cop says. Mustafa shows up and gets out of his car. What is he doing here, Kerim asks?

The cop says, Kerim Ilgaz, I’m taking you into custody under the suspicion of the murder of Vural Namli. Meryem gasps. Kerim is like, WTH? Kerim begins to struggle as they take him away. I didn’t do anything! Let me go! Kerim didn’t do it, Fatma shouts. Meryem makes a frantic call to Kadir to come back, ASAP! Fatma runs after the police van, shouting. Kerim turns around and watches as Fatma stumbles to the ground and Mustafa runs to pick her up. This was the end of Turkish season one.

They cut a ton of stuff: we see Vural’s funeral. Leman screams. Semsi wobbles. The Yasaran boys take off their jackets to shovel dirt onto the grave. All of a sudden Semsi shouts, murderer! He starts running towards someone. There are gunshots and Selim and Erdo fall. We see it’s Mustafa who shot. This is Mustafa’s nightmare.

Fatmagul #38 part 3

He gets a phone call from Asu. She’s back from wherever she was. She asks for Fatma’s phone number. Why? She has to talk to her. Give me her brother’s number if you have it, Asu asks. Mustafa asks again why, what happened? Asu cries, it wasn’t Kerim who killed Vural. He’s innocent. Uh, oh. How do you know, Musto asks? Asu replies, because I was also there that night. Whoa. Mustafa panics. Where are you, he asks? At the hotel. Give me the number, please. Musto says he will come and wants the address. No, she says, just the number. He insists and she gives him the addy.

The story goes back one day before. Meryem calls Kadir for directions. We see Kadir, Rahmi and Muka painting a small bungalow next to a big house. Meryem and Fatma are riding in a truck that’s taking their furniture to Kadir’s address. Fatma spots a familiar car in the side mirror. Mustafa is following them. She is alarmed and stretches dangerously out the window to get a better look. Meryem pulls her back in. Stop the truck, Fatma says. Stop! Mustafa is following us! Truck pulls over and so does Musto.

Fatma jumps out of the truck to confront Musto, Meryem following. Musto says he means no harm. Meryem says we told you to stop following us! I just want to know if you are safe, he replies. But I don’t want to see you around, Fatma tells him. Leave us alone! The truck driver asks if everything is okay. Yes, it’s nothing, Meryem says, we are coming. Musto repeats he means no harm. He wants to put his heart at ease.

Fatma is ticked, nothing has changed in 17 days. Nor has anything changed because you testified in my favor. Don’t expect my gratitude. You did what had to be done. He tells her he left the Yasarans for good. They are my enemies, too. Do you want congratulations, Meryem asks?

Musto says she (Fatma) is alone now. They (Yasarans) must be waiting for things to settle a bit before they attack again. Meryem shouts, then follow them instead of us! I don’t want to take my eyes off of Fatmagul, he replies. Save your eyes for them, Meryem says. Fatma adds, I don’t want anything from you. I will take care of myself as I have until today. We don’t need you. Fatma says this is the last time, please leave me alone.

Musto says ok, I’m glad you are moving into that lawyer’s place. You’ll be safer there. Meryem and Fatma turn in alarm. How does he know? I told you I’m keeping an eye on Fatma. Meryem threatens to call the cops. Musto says, don’t worry I won’t bother you again. He tells Fatma if you ever need anything… as a drowning man would clutch a straw… I’m ready to give my life for you. I will never want anything from you, Mustafa, she replies.

Meryem wants to go but Fatma says she wants to see Musto leave first. He leaves her with this, I hope you won’t regret believing in Kerim. But you will lose hope when he admits his crime. Go, Fatma shouts. Musto says he will wait for her call. Meryem picks up a rock and threatens Musto, get out you pig! Do you think your testimony made you a man?! Don’t expect our gratitude! Musto drives off. Meryem says Kerim is right to be worried about Mustafa. End of massive cut.

Kerim is called from his cell. Omer is there to visit. Kerim folds the paper and puts it in his pocket. Kerim asks Omer if there is a trial date yet. No, but Omer has he forensic report. It’s not good news.

The truck arrives at Kadir’s. Rahmi tells Fatma, right foot first and she says, Bismillah. Fatma asks Kadir if this will be a bother for him. No, he is very happy. Meryem hopes he doesn’t change his opinion. Fatma, Meryem and Kerim will stay in the house and Rahmi, Muka and Murat in the bungalow. Muka waves to Fatma. She doesn’t respond. Muka thanks Fatma for letting them (her) come along. Fatma tells her to thank Kadir Bey for this opportunity. We see Musto pull up nearby.

Fatmagul #38 part 4

Cut: Kadir shows them in and explains they will have the rooms upstairs. He cleared everything out for them. Rahmi says Kadir had everything painted, too. Kadir shows Fatma her room, with a beautiful view, and shows Meryem to hers.

They also cut some of Rahmi’s convo with Fatma: he says a lot has happened in the last year, he never thought he would leave Ildir. But now they are moving every year. At least they left this in: Rahmi says don’t you wish Kerim was here? Fatma nods.

Kerim reads the report. Vural was killed by hitting his head on a rock. A piece of glass cut a vein. Kerim says maybe he slipped and fell after I left. Omer says there is no evidence of that. Kerim says, or the Yasarans fixed it. They were scared he would turn against them. Maybe they followed him and killed him. Omer says that is possible but that doesn’t take suspicion away from you. You had his blood on you, you fought with him.

Kerim shouts about the injustice of it. How can I convince you I didn’t do it? Omer says we believe you. Kerim stands and shouts, you don’t believe me and neither does Kadir!

They cut a flashback: After Kerim was taken into custody, Kadir demanded the truth from Kerim. Kerim claimed a set up by Musto and the Yasarans. Kadir keeps asking if he did it. We see Fatma waiting outside the door, and she calls his name when the door briefly opens. Kerim swears on Fatma, that he didn’t do it.

The prison guard shouts for Kerim to shut up. Omer says we need to find proof to make the judge believe. Kerim is losing hope. It’s been three weeks and he doesn't even have trial date. Omer says the investigation isn’t complete yet. That’s in their favor. Kerim laments, everything is against me. how am I going to save myself? Fatmagul is alone and unprotected against the Yasarans and Mustafa.

Omer almost forgot to mention that the family is moving in with Kadir. Rahmi and unfortunately Muka, too. [no one’s happy about Muka] Omer says when you get out, you can find another house. This gives Kerim a little hope.

They cut: Kadir finishes the tour of the house. Meryem is ashamed that he’s done so much. Kadir is just overjoyed to have them here. The house will be as it was in his childhood. Muka comments that Kerim entrusted Fatma to him (Kadir). Rahmi hustles Muka out before she can bother anyone.

Munir checks in with Selim, they are at the hospital to pick up Leman. Selim runs into Meltem. They have returned from the US. Selim starts a commotion. You slept with him and asked your father to give him a job! Ender rushes Meltem away. Ender asks if this is why Mustafa has been around. You fooled me and your father.

Cut: Selim and Erdo enter Leman’s room. She’s in bad shape. She sobs all over Selim and Erdo, why isn’t Vural with you? Why, why? Then she asks Selim, where is Vural? Where is my child? I want my son. He doesn’t belong in the graveyard. Selim says they will go to his house after the cemetery. Leman wants to go home and sleep in Vural’s bed. Leman is inconsolable. If you can’t pull yourself together, they won’t let you out, Erdo tells her. Leman says she will only be ok after her son’s murderer dies, too.

Fatma unpacks her wedding dress. She remembers that night and Kerim’s proposal. She looks at the dress with sadness and longing. Meryem enters and surprises her. She sees that Kerim’s suitcase is in the room. She will take it. Fatma says to leave it, there is plenty of space in her armoire [!] and she has already put some of his things away.

Cut: Fatma opens Kerim’s suitcase and takes out a shirt. She flashes back to him being taken from the police station to jail. He tells her he didn’t do it. She knows he is innocent. She hangs his shirts.

Fatmagul #38 part 5

Fatma opens a box with Kerim’s belongings, a toy car, books, comics. She opens a box with photos. There is his parents’ wedding pic with his father’s face cut out. The pic with his mother on the donkey. A pic with Meryem. Cut: Fatma finds the flowers that she knitted and gives them a kiss.

Cut: Muka complains about her accommodations. [same old Muka]

Cut: Meryem sees pictures of Kadir and his wife out on display. This is unsettling for her. Everyone has gone off on a task and Meryem dares to peek into Kadir’s bedroom. Of course, Muka catches her. Meryem is embarrassed. Muka stares at her with that smirky smile. Meryem sends her on her way.

Cut: a lengthy scene at the Yasaran house. With Leman carrying on again.

Sami picks up Asu from the airport. It’s a happy reunion. She has a new look. He drives a taxi now, thanks to her. He also bought a house. Sami gives Asu the bad news about her ex-client, Vural. She gasps. Suicide? No, he was murdered. Sami tells her that he was in a fight with that girl’s husband. He killed Vural and is in jail.

Kadir gets permission for Fatma to visit Kerim. They go next week. Muka watches. She’s dying to find out what’s going on. [Being separated from the rest is killing her.]

Business stuff with the Yasarans. Erdo does not want his house sold. Resat says it’s not his house but the company’s. It devolves into arguments. Selim is hellbent for revenge on Meltem and Mustafa. If you want to discuss detail, please be my guest.

Asu reads up on Vural’s death. This happened on the same day of the trial. Asu tells Sami she saw them that night at the crime scene. Flashback: Asu was in the cab that Kerim almost crashed into. She saw Kerim pull away. And she saw Vural alive at the scene after Kerim left. She got out of the cab but the driver called her back. She realizes Kerim couldn’t have killed Vural. She’s frantic, what should she do?

Asu wants to call Mustafa, but Sami tries to talk her out of it. Asu says Fatma needs to know this. Sami says, go ahead and call the police and cause yourself more problems. Maybe she will be accused. No, the taxista would be a witness, too, she says. Sami doubts they could find him now. Besides, he probably wouldn’t remember and even if he did, he likely wouldn’t want to get involved. This goes back and forth. Sami wins out for now.

Cut: Musto is in front of the temporarily closed Rose Kitchen. The neighbor next door doesn’t know when or if they will reopen. He says the owner killed someone. He looked like a nice guy and the wife was sweet. It will be hard for her now. Are you a relative, he asks? Musto leaves without answering.

Erdo looks at a pic of the rotten ricos. He gets weepy. Hilmiye enters his room and he tells her the house is up for sale. Hilmiye says it’s for the best. Erdo says Resat has won again. But maybe this isn’t so bad. Erdo can keep a close eye on Resat. Hilmiye begs Erdo not to cause more problems Enough of this. FF>>

Kadir tries to fix Meryem’s sewing machine. [I bet Kerim could fix that quick] Meryem notices a vase and Kadir says his wife made it. His wife used the other house as her workshop before she became sick. His wife gave away most of what she made. This is the most important piece Kadir still has.

Fatma puts some things in Kadir’s office and sees a fax come in. Forensic report. Not good. Don’t lose hope, Kadir says. Fatma wants the truth. Kadir says there is no evidence for Kerim’s innocence. If he was to confess, his sentence would be reduced because there was no deliberate intent. Fatma says Kerim has nothing to confess. Meryem says Kadir doesn’t believe Kerim. Kadir says he does. Was it because he swore on Fatma, Meryem says, otherwise you wouldn’t believe?

Fatmagul #38 part 6

Kadir says it is his job to suspect. He has seen many clients claim innocence only to confess at the end leaving him surprised. He has to think like the opposition and leave emotion aside. Meryem is very upset with Kadir. She wishes she knew this before she agreed to move in. He tells her, you know how I feel about Kerim. She’s not so sure anymore.

Cut: Kadir explains to Fatma that he was angry with Kerim. He put them at a disadvantage by ignoring the advice to stay away from trouble. But no one expected this. All Fatma wants is a little hope [sounds familiar?] Kadir promises that he will find a way to get Kerim out.

Cut: a cellmate plays his saz. Others request songs. Kerim stays separated from the group, like he does most of the time. The saz player asks Kerim if he has a request. Kerim says play what you want, but then he asks him to play Evlerinin Önü Mersin, the song he sang with Fatma at the dinner party. That’s when we get the flashback.

While the song plays, we see Fatma writing a letter: “ I wanted to get well. I wanted to trust someone again. when I told you that it was hard for me to admit it then, but I sort of felt you would help me. You were one of my biggest enemies but now you’ve become my biggest support in life. You could have gone, turning your back on me. But you didn’t. Even when I told you to go. Now I won’t turn my back on you. And I know why…because I know you. Not because you held my hand back then, and not like paying a debt. I’ll be with you because I really trust you and believe you. I asked you hopelessly back then, ‘is there any hope for us?’ And you said, yes. And now I believe more than ever that there is always hope, Kerim. Her tear falls on the letter.

The song is over and Kerim wipes his tears. Someone reminds Kerim to say thanks for the song. They notice he was crying. The cellmate asks why is he so sad when his wife is coming next week. Then the others continue to sing and dance. Kerim mopes by the window.

Kadir comes to sit outside with Meryem. Kadir says he realizes he hurt her. He’s sorry. He didn’t express himself well. Meryem says she is very sensitive when it comes to Kerim. You are right, there is no room for emotions here, she says. Kadir says he just wants to help Kerim. Meryem is sorry now. you opened your door to us and I said those things to you. Kadir brushes it off. Muka is spying from her window.

Kadir says, I’m happy you’re here. You have brought light and music to my house. This was a house like any other but thanks to you today it has light and joy. I owe it all to you.

Muka spreads poison to Rahmi, complaining that Meryem is flirting with Kadir and not worrying about anything else. Rahmi tells her not to say such things. Don’t start. You promised you wouldn’t meddle with anyone again. You would keep it to yourself. He doesn’t want to hear anymore. Muka says Meryem dragged them here just to get closer to Kadir. She used Fatma as an excuse. Rahmi closes the curtain and grabs Muka from her seat.

She gets a pain. [fake?] Rahmi apologizes for upsetting her. Muka continues to spew. Everything I’ve said about Fatma has come true. She’s blaming Fatma again for all that’s happened. Why do you think Kerim became a murderer? Who’s fault is that? Rahmi defends Kerim. He’s no murderer. [I can’t continue to listen to this bitch, there is said it. FF>>] As soon as Rahmi leaves to get her milk, she goes back to the window to spy.

Asu thinks back to her sessions with Vural.

Halide calls Mustafa. He tells her he’s working checking stock on the internet. He hasn’t called her. Halide says that Serdar called. He couldn’t get in touch with you. Musto is alarmed. He must have a problem because he’s calling so much. Talk to him. Musto says he probably needs money. You can say no, Halide says, but he’s your friend, call him.

Fatmagul #38 part 7

Meryem talks to Fatma in her bedroom. Meryem offers to stay with her if she is afraid. No, she’s fine. This is the first time she has had a room of her own. She feels good about being here. Kadir Bey has done everything to make them feel comfortable. Fatma tells Meryem, Kadir didn’t say he didn’t trust Kerim. Meryem says she knows, they spoke. Fatma says he sees us as family, and he is especially nice to you.

Meryem changes the subject. She sees the letter to Kerim. That will lift his spirits. Before Meryem leaves, Fatma tells her this is her first night sleeping here. She should put a mirror under her pillow so she can see the man she will marry in her dreams. That’s what they say. Not sure if Meryem appreciates that but Fatma has a playful laugh.

Now we are back to the beginning, Asu calls Musto for Fatma’s contact info. Musto arrives at Asu’s hotel. And of course he agrees with Sami, Asu shouldn’t get involved. Musto says that Kerim already confessed. How do you know that, she asks? That’s what he heard. Asu wonders if it was possible that Kerim returned after she left. But she thinks Kerim doesn’t seem like the type who could kill. Musto says maybe he didn’t mean it. It could have been in the moment. He lost control. Maybe it was an accident. Could be?

Asu asks if he’s seen Fatma. Musto lies. Asu says, you were also there the night of the crime. Uh, oh. She clarifies, you were also in Ildir. It’s a small place and the news spreads fast. That’s how you heard about it, right? Musto falls into his thoughts and Asu asks what’s wrong. Nothing.

They cut the flashback: Musto is outside the station when they take Kerim to jail. Kerim shouts at him to stay away from Fatma. I’ll kill you if you come near my wife! [will Kerim ever learn?] He warns Fatma about Musto. He entrusts Fatma to Kadir and Meryem.

You like this situation, she tells Musto. That’s ridiculous, he replies. You gave your testimony for Fatma, Kerim isn’t here, it’s a big opportunity to win her heart again. Asu figures that he doesn’t want her to say anything that would clear Kerim. He denies this. She asks why is he so worried about her. I always think about you, he lies. I understood what I lost. He touches her hair. He flatters her. He’s trying to seduce her. He kisses her, with his eyes open! He’s disgusting.

Day of the visit. Kerim gets a shave and Fatma primps at the mirror. She takes a small pot of flowers with her, she grew them herself. Muka even baked cookies for Kerim! Kerim is nervously waiting. A cellmate asks if he wants to walk in the yard. No, he doesn’t want to get sweaty He gives his shirt a sniff..lol.

Asu is at Musto’s place now. Sami calls her. He locked you up again? No, it’s not like that she says. He treats me like a princess. Everything changed.

Musto is at the cemetery. He watches from a distance as Leman wails over her son’s grave.
Meltem shows up at Mustafa’s. What a surprise when Asu opens the door.

Fatma waits nervously. So does Kerim. It’s after two, Kerim is impatient. They finally call him. Fatma and Kadir are waiting. That moment when they see each other…. Kadir walks away so they can have time alone. They talk over each other and laugh. She says he lost weight. They gaze at each other then Kerim grabs her in a hug that she reciprocates. The guard tells them to separate. They sit. How are you, he asks, I missed you so much. He had so much to tell her but he can’t remember now.

Meryem, Rahmi and Murat send regards, Fatma says. Have you had problems, she asks? No. We will open the restaurant soon, she says. Life goes on, Kerim says, no matter what. He asks about her next exams. They are coming soon. Are you studying?

Fatmagul #38 part 8

Here comes the bad question: Have you seen him? Has Mustafa been bothering you? Fatma says a little. Kerim shouts and the guard says to shut up. Kadir comes rushing over. Fatma says he hasn’t hurt anyone. He just wanted to help. I didn’t even listen. He left. Kerim is very upset. He asks Kadir to keep Fatma safe. Fatma tells Kerim not to worry about her.

Lyrics: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/benim-hala-umudum-var-i-still-have-hope.html-1#songtranslation

Musto comes home. Asu tells him Meltem came. Flashback: Meltem tells Asu her father has a job offering for him, she came to talk the details. End flash. Asu asks Musto if there is something between them. No. Asu says, she knows your place, she comes alone. She thought you’d be here by yourself and she wasn’t happy to see me.

Did you sleep with her to get revenge on the Yasarans, Asu asks? Mustafa calls her crazy. He spins a story. Asu is pissed. You ended with the Yasarans and now Turaner Alagoz supports you. You are using his daughter. She questions his dignity [long gone]. Mustafa blows, how dare you speak to me this way? They cut a big fight and she starts to pack to leave.

Kadir discusses Kerim’s case. Omer has been talking to everyone in town to see if they saw anything suspicious. Anything that can help us. And the Yasarans, Kerim asks? They left for Istanbul right after the trial. Fatma brings up the man at the restaurant that Rahmi saw. Kadir thinks he’s Mustafa’s man. Kerim says Mustafa worked for the Yasarans. He wants Fatma to be careful. He’s sure Mustafa has his own agenda. Don’t trust him, Kerim says. Kerim asks Kadir if there is any hope. Fatma says there is always hope.

Visiting time is over. Fatma complains but those are the rules. A sad goodbye. Fatma says they brought clothes and food, Muka even made cookies. Kadir mentions the pot of flowers. Kerim smiles. They quickly exchange their letters. Kerim takes Fatma’s hand but they are told to separate. Kerim says don’t worry about him. Keep studying. Write me a letter each day. He has to go. She breaks down. It’s not fair. He’s paying for another’s crime.

Kerim gets the flower pot and the rest of the things they brought. Kerim shares the food. He’s transfixed on the plant. He takes out the letter.

Kadir and Fatma catch a cab. Fatma takes out Kerim’s letter: “My one and only love, I’m behind bars away from what I love the most, my dearest. They want to punish me for a crime I didn’t commit. But nothing hurts as much as my longing for you. It’s not this place, it is leaving you alone that is unbearable. You are so strong, Fatmagul. You can stand against everyone who wants to take advantage of this situation. You never gave in to anyone until now and I know you won’t. Together, we will overcome this. This will pass. My only consolation is knowing you’re waiting for me. I love you. I love you. I love you so much. Fatma wipes her tears.

Kerim opens his letter. There are the knitted flowers. The rest of her letter reads: I made this tatting with patience. You found it and kept it. This tatting is a symbol of your patience, too. It shall be yours once again, to give strength to your patience. I raised that flower, too, with my own hands. I planted it and gave it water. Its soil was taken from our garden in Goksu. There were little plants barely holding on, trying to reach for the sun. They took root. This flower is a memory of those days. We see the tearstain over her name.

Kerim gives the plant a space at the window. The others notice. A cellmate asks if he knows the name of this flower. No, he doesn’t. It’s a ‘forget me not”. Kerim repeats with a smile, forget me not. He waters it.

And we are out.

Dondi, you are a champion! Thank you so much! This was one of those episodes where you could just tell they were making cuts but I see it was even more than I suspected. Thank you so much for adding all that to your recap.

The events of Vural's death couldn't have worked better for Mustafa if he planned it. At least as it stands now, Asu was right in everything she said except she doesn't know he killed Vural himself. What better way to get rid of your rival then to frame him for murder. Of course that won't get him Fatmagul but he's too delusional to realize that.

And Asu just leaps head first back into the trap...sad but like you said, for now, hopefully she will come to her senses. Here we have another character bothered by her conscious and another opportunity to see what will win out in the end, good or evil.

Fatma letting Kerim kiss her cheek was so tender and bittersweet considering his arrest the next morning.

Vural begging to be killed was disturbing and well acted. What a sad weak willed and pathetic man. It was interesting how it showed Selim and Erdo both seemed genuinely broken up over Vural's death. You see another glimpse of the human being hiding behind the monster.

It's sweet Fatma has her own room now, and what a pretty room! Her letter to Kerim was so sweet she certainly expressed her feelings more in writing then she has verbally. And Kerim gets his favorite toy back and a forget me not flower!

Well I am off to have dinner with my sisters. Happy New Year everyone! May the new year bring you health happiness and Joy!

A million thanks for this fine recap and all the things the geniuses at Telemundo cut! Sigh. As soon as I saw Mustafa on that boat watching the scene with Kerim and Vural I knew pretty much what was next.

And the recapping of the cuts shows what a sick puppy Mustafa is. What I saw didn't show him bothering her after Kerim goes to prison. I did see him seducing Asu to keep her from saying she saw Vural alive after Kerim drove off. I don't despise him as much as Muka, but it's close.

I keep getting obsessed with Fatmagul's hair. I understood getting rid of the pony tail and her hair loose around her face was symbolic of her beginning to be comfortable around Kerim. But in yesterday's two hour episode, her hair was curly. What? I think she was too distraught after the rape and for the long recovery period to have been straightening her hair. So, now she curls it?

I noticed that Kerim's prison is a LOT nicer than the one the rotten ricos were it. The room he shares with the other prisoners even looked pleasant. And the other inmates were congenial with one another and even played cards together. I'm so glad they didn't go with Kerim being menaced by awful guys.

Asu seems to be our only hope for the truth coming out about Kerim leaving Vural alive. And the fact that he died from hitting his head on a rock doesn't offer any hope for Kerim. If somehow it could have been shown, by DNA or something, that there was another attacker. But it doesn't appear that will be the case.

Thanks again, dondi. Don't know how I'll keep up once the week off from work ends, but I am certainly now well hooked on the story.

Dear Dondi, your recaps are absolutely remarkable . You make everything so clear . I haven't rewatched this episode yet , but I look forward to watching it soon. I hope I can find it online .

The letters are allowing Fatmagul to express herself to Kerim in a way she had difficulty doing in person, and being separared has convinced her that she trusts him and has fallen in love with him.

I can't remember when it was decided that the family should move in with Kadir . Did he and Meryem talk about this at the hotel either before or after Kerim was arrested ? It seemed so sudden , so I guess it was because Kerim was in jail.

Weasly Must is on a steady downward spiral . He tries so hard to manipulate both Asu and Melem to win Fatmagul back.

Seeing Kerim in jail away from Fatmagul and the family is heartbreaking .

If you have read or watched the Outlander series, you know that Forget me not flowers are an ongoing theme .

I found this episode online and realized that I had never seen it before . When I first started watching , I jumped around a lot, so I missed parts of episodes along with whole episodes .

Fatmagul does a form of crocheting called tatting . It is used to make lace. Crocheting uses one hook , and tatting uses very fine crocheting cotton . My maternal grandma who lived with us could do tatting and put it around hankies. My mother, sister , and aunt could knit and crochet , but I don't think they ever did tatting . I can tell that Beren actually knows how to crochet /tat. You can always tell when characters really are just pretending to knit or crochet . I can crochet , but I am not very good at knitting .

This is the first time Fatmagul has ever had a bed to herself . She usually sleeps with Murat . It must be a thrill to have that beautiful bedroom and balcony with a gorgeous view all to herself. Kedir is so sweet and thoughtful to give her that room . Watching her touch and hang up Kerims shirts was symbolic of a turning point for her .

Muk is pea green with envy. She doesn't like being put in the guest house . She's jealous and nosy and wants to be where the action is so that she doesn't miss anything .

The scene of Fatmagul and Kerim by the harbor at night before he is arrested shows two people trying to soothe each other's suffering . I had never seen it before. It was compelling and showed the couple finally coming together physically and emotionally to trust and support each other.

Happy New Year! Yeni Yılın Kutlu Olsun! Thanks everyone! Way too many cuts.

I don’t get why Asu loves Mustafa so much. His facial expressions run the gamut from A to B. He hardly talks. Doesn't smile. In the cut scene, Asu realized Musto hadn’t changed his ways. He pulled out the whore card again, questioning her right moralize. She started packing her bag but once he said the magic words, “I love you so much”, she fell for his BS again. We can only hope she comes to her senses soon.

Another cut that I left out from Thursday: Selim has Meltem followed and she’s tracked down at an outdoor café after leaving Mustafa’s. He confronts her and wants to know all about Mustafa. Selim asks if she is with Musto just to punish him. She says Mustafa isn’t her lover, but she admits she slept with him. Selim loses it and slaps her. He starts yelling, I’ll kill you! And he has to be restrained by staff. Other customers were already gossiping about her before Selim’s arrival but now there is really something to gossip about. They pull out their phones to record. Meltem makes a quick getaway.

I don’t know why, but I find Kerim’s outbursts more distressing this time around. Even in prison he’s threating payback on the baddies. He needs to be tied to a chair.

Yes, novelera, a huge difference between Kerim’s prison and the ricos. I wonder what the others are in for? They don’t seem like thugs or give Kerim a hard time about a murder charge. In the Turkish version, the cellmates call Kerim, Karaoğlan, after a Turkish fictional character with long black hair. There is one guy that has had his eyes on Kerim. It was little more noticeable one of the slight cuts.

Susanlynn, it’s been a few years since I’ve watched the whole show from start to finish. I thought I remembered more discussion about Kadir asking the family to move in with him. It could have been in a cut that I missed. A lot relating to the actual move happened in cut scenes. Thanks for the beautiful quote.

If you have the chance to look, the lyrics of the song played at the prison visit fit the story very well. It’s a beautiful song.

I haven’t watched Friday’s show yet. I hope to get a recap up tonight or tomorrow morning.

Fatmagul

Dondi356, thank you very much for recapping this 3-hour episode. That's what it was with the cuts.

"Cut: Fatma finds the flowers that she knitted and gives them a kiss." - that string of flowers was a symbol of Kerim's affection. Now she is showing some affection herself. How thoughtful to give it back to him and call it a symbol of his patience.

Thanks for the song. Yes, very appropriate.

Fatmagul #39 part 1

The cabbie stops for gas on the way to the airport. Fatma gets out to go wash her face. Emin is inside at the counter and spots her. Kadir spots Emin and gets out of the cab. And guess who is using the ladies’ room? It’s Halide. Fatma hurries out of there. Halide follows her out calling for her to stop.

Everyone is face to face now. Halide starts, I never had the chance to speak with you. Please forgive me. I know that I am also guilty for what you’ve been through. I disappointed you the day of the fire and everything that happened afterward. [Turkish] I should have acted like an elder and protected you. But I didn’t. I ruined both yours and Mustafa’s life because of my fear of what people would say. Mustafa would have never abandoned you if I didn’t tell him to do it.

Fatma turns to Kadir and asks, is it good, are we going? Wait, Halide has more to say. I thought I was doing the right thing, but it wasn’t. I should have been your mother instead of hurting you. I am so sorry. [I think she’s sorrier for the path her son has taken, not for anything that happened to Fatma] Halide has the nerve to ask, hakkını helal et.

Fatma gives the best answer: [Turkish] I am glad that the house burned. I am glad that neither you nor Mustafa held my hand. I am glad you left my hand. Emin says, we made a mistake, forgive us. Fatma says they actually did her a great favor. She never thought she would say this, but it is true. When the house burned, it also burned what was covering our hearts, Fatma says, it revealed our true hearts, true faces.

Emin says, in that moment we only thought about the appearances to others. But we learned our lesson. Fatma replies, you saved me from being sentenced to a life of benefits without love. Now you ask me for forgiveness? I don’t have any rights over you, but if it makes you feel better, helal olsun. With that Fatma gets in the cab. [and I give her a standing ovation.]

Kadir asks Fatma, are you okay? Fatma says, she’s good. Very good. [I love the look she has like, did I just say all that?] Kadir looks proud of her. Meryem calls Kadir from Rose Kitchen. She wants to know about the visit. He passes the phone to Fatma. Fatma tells her Kerim is fine, don’t worry. She explained to him that Meryem couldn’t come. Meryem is getting the place ready for re-opening. Rahmi went with Muka to a doctor appointment.

A young man shows up at the restaurant door. Meryem doesn’t let him in on the freshly washed floor. He’s looking for work. Meryem is sorry. It’s a family business, she says, and we don’t have much money to pay a worker. The guy says he doesn't need much money, just enough to be able to study. He doesn’t have a place to stay either and tries to make a deal. He can stay nights and watch over the place, and if he can eat here, he wouldn’t ask for more. Meryem is sorry, they can’t hire anyone. He turns to go.

I guess Meryem feels sorry for him. She calls him back. She asks him, what about your family? His family is in Manisa. He came here to study. His father doesn’t have much money to send him. He doesn’t want to tell him and make him feel bad. He was renting a place with friends, but he couldn't carry his share, so they kicked him out.

He asks Meryem if she knows of anyone who would hire him. He’s willing to do anything. She doesn’t know. She calls him back again and tells him he could work there for the day and help her clean. They shake on it. He says his name is Mehmet. Meryem says he can eat first.

Fatmagul #39 part 2

Muka is getting an ultrasound. Rahmi is overcome with emotion when he hears the baby’s heartbeat. Muka asks if the results of the DNA test are ready. The doctor checks and it is ready. [I love Rahmi’s face as the doctor reads the results, eyes closed like he’s making a silent prayer.] Corresponds 99% with Rahmi’s sample. He doesn’t understand and Muka explains it means the baby is his. Muka asks for a copy.

Resat and Erdo are visiting banks trying to stave off the financial disaster with no luck. Erdo blames Turaner and says he will bring him to his knees. Uh, oh. What are you talking about, Resat asks. Nothing, Erdo replies. See you later.

Mustafa and Asu are in bed. I guess he has to sleep with her to keep her quiet. Asu tells him he’s like the sea, at times calm and other times furious. Your water is clear and at times cloudy. Aren’t you like that too, he replies. I am, she asks? But I love you as you are, he tells her. [I call BS. He will “love” her as long as she’s quiet.]

Asu gets up to take a shower and Musto grabs his phone to call Meltem. I know you came, sorry I wasn’t home. That’s okay, she says, you girlfriend was very nice. Musto catches a bit of attitude in her voice. She says she had a terrible morning, can they talk later. Musto asks if it’s his fault. Don’t think too much of yourself, Meltem says.

Let’s meet, he proposes, I want to make you feel better. She can’t, she is on her way to the airport to return to Ankara. He asks again if this is his fault. She warns him that Selim is crazy, don’t cross his path. Musto says he’s done with the Yasarans. Meltem says Selim knows what happened. Her mother knows, too. Musto doesn’t care. What do you want me to do, he asks? Nothing. I came to your house to tell you that I never want to see you again. She hangs up and he laughs.

Kerim is in his cell with his flowers, forget me nots and Fatma’s letter. [see, there’s that guy lurking in the background.] Kerim’s flashback to that scene on the sightseeing boat. Flash to them hugging at the visit. Flash to their first dance at New Year's. Kerim gets teary.

The lurker (Lutfu) comes over to Kerim and brings him tea. That’s enough, he tells Kerim as he pulls up a chair. He notices the tatting. Kerim quickly puts it in his pocket. You want to keep it to yourself, the man says. Everyone should have secrets. Everyone here has secrets. I heard you have problems with the Yasarans.

Kerim is surprised, how do you know? I’m from the same place you are, Lutfu replies, don’t ask how I heard but I have. If you get sentenced they will send you to another prison. They’ve been working on it. How do you know, Kerim asks? That’s confidential, Lutfu replies. He asks, what happened, why do you have problems with them?

Kerim tells him if you know that they want to send me to another place, you would know my problem. [Turkish] They are dangerous, Lutfu says, they have contacts everywhere. You need to be careful. Don’t talk to anyone. Know your friends and your enemies. Then before you know it, your words reach the Yasarans, to be used in the trial against you.

Kerim says, I couldn’t say anything for them to accuse me. I have nothing to hide. I didn’t kill anyone. I’m innocent, is that clear? Lutfu looks out the window, see that man in the blue shirt? I’ve known him a long time. I always see him when I come back. He says he never killed anyone. It’s already been 8 years. Nobody believes him. Be careful. That’s my advice.

Omer calls Kadir with news about Kerim’s case. Good news. The investigation shows there were clues that someone else besides Kerim was at the crime scene. A third set of footprints.

Fatmagul #39 part 3

More Mustafa and Asu. I can’t stand to see him playing her like this. Musto gets a call from his friend, Serdar. He hesitates to answer and Asu thinks it’s Meltem. No, it’s a friend from my town, he replies. Then answer, Asu says.

Serdar says finally you answer the phone. Musto worries, did something bad happen? No. Serdar tells him he wanted to tell him he was coming to Istanbul. He wanted to arrange a night out together. He’s already arrived. Are you available tonight, Serdar asks?
Musto invites him over for dinner, my girlfriend is cooking. Asu smiles. Serdar accepts.

Erdo arrives at Resat’s house. He sees the for sale sign on his house and potential buyers out front. I guess he doesn’t have a key yet for Resat’s house, he rings the bell. He goes to see Selim who is sulking out back by the pool. All Selim can think about is revenge against Meltem. Erdo says that’s exactly what he wants to talk about. He has a plan to ruin both Turaner and Meltem.

Grieving Leman watches Selim and Erdo from her window. Perihan brings her tea and something to eat. Vural is not with them, Leman says, he shouldn’t have left me so soon. You see life goes on. Life goes on without my son. They are enjoying themselves like before. I keep breathing. I’m hungry and then I feel tired and sleep. I wake up. I thought I couldn’t live without Vural. Live without hearing his voice. Live without his scent. I only live with his memory. She cries.

It would have been better if I went with him, Leman sobs. Why am I such a coward? Why am I so selfish? Perihan says, you can’t continue like this. You need help. I don’t want to go on, Leman replies. Perihan thinks Leman needs more time in the hospital for a longer treatment. Will Vural come back if I go, Leman asks? I will carry my pain with me everywhere. I’m not going anywhere until that murderer is punished.

Perihan says we will let you know the date of the trial. You can be there. Have something to eat. Leman snaps, stop telling me what to do. That’s enough. Stop giving me orders. I need to sleep.

Omer meets with the family and goes over the events of the night by drawing a pic. We see flashbacks as he explains. He explains that the other footprints came from the direction of the sea and then they go back with stronger steps. We see Mustafa in the flashback. Kadir suggests that the person approached trying to be silent and then went running back. A possibility. Fatma says that person must have come by boat. And gone back the same, Meryem adds. Muka says Kerim said nothing about a boat. They speculate on that. Why wouldn’t Kerim have heard a boat approaching? Nevertheless, it’s hopeful.

Rahmi asks why they couldn’t find footprints in Fatma’s case. Muka pipes up, they didn’t want to find them. They destroyed what they found. Meryem asks, what now? Omer says they are investigating the boats in the area. We will find out who was there that night. More hope.

Serdar is over for dinner. He is impressed. Asu is a good cook. The house is grand. Musto says they will be leaving this place soon. He’s done with the Yasarans and they will take the house. Serdar is glad that he left. You don’t need their money. I know you ruined their alibi at the trial.

Serdar mentions the ignored calls. [Turkish] I thought you were mad at me that night, he says. Uh, oh. Serdar continues, it’s easy to criticize. Everyone was talking. But who would reject a chance like this (to work for the Yasarans). Asu asks if everyone was mad because Musto worked for the Yasarans. Serdar won’t lie, he was mad, too. Mustafa hated them in town and then he left to work for them.

Fatmagul #39 part 4

Serdar stops before he talks about the trial, not knowing if Asu knows. She says she knows so he continues to talk. He says Mustafa came that day, but he didn’t realize it was for the trial and that he was going to testify against the Yasarans. I wasn’t nice to him, Serdar says. He apologizes to Musto and adds he was mad at himself for letting him take the boat out alone that night. Asu takes note. A Big uh, oh.

Musto says he wasn’t out very long. He came back right away. What a horrible night, Serdar says, the next day they found the Namlis’ son dead. Musto doesn’t want to talk about this at dinner. [he doesn’t want to talk about it at all] Let’s talk about good things. Serdar brings up another sticky subject. How did you meet Hacer? [Mustafa calls her that now.]

Asu/Hacer says it was on a trip. It was very romantic. Mustafa agrees while he wipes his forehead. Lol

Omer gathers his stuff to go. The investigation will continue. He will go back to Izmir tomorrow and speak with Kerim.

It’s dinner time in the cellblock. Kerim is uneasy as he sits at the table. He glances at everyone suspiciously. Lutfu’s words affected him. Cellmates notice and think Kerim is just upset because he’s counting the days until his next visit. Lutfu gets up from the table to wash his dish and Kerim goes over to him. Kerim asks, which one works for the Yasarans?

Lutfu doesn’t want to get in trouble. He only warned Kerim so he could protect himself. Keep your distance, Lutfu says, the rest doesn’t matter. Kerim presses for an answer. The guys at the table notice Kerim and Lutfu and ask what they are whispering about. Lutfu replies that Kerim just nervous about his trial. He’s just calming him. Some think something is going on between Lutfu and Kerim.

Fatma and Meryem are in the kitchen cleaning up the dinner dishes. Meryem is humming and Kadir comes in. He gazes at Meryem. What is it? He’s just happy to hear the sounds of the dishes and a woman singing in the house. Meryem says they are making tea, does he want some? Yes, he will come up when it’s done but Meryem says she will bring it to him. He goes and Fatma teases Meryem.

Muka comes in to spoil the mood. She waves the DNA test in front of Fatma and Meryem. Is everyone happy now, Muka asks. Fatma isn’t. She can’t forget what Muka did. Ok, you’re having my brother’s baby, but we all know what kind of a person you are. Muka says, you’ll never forgive me, right? I expected you to understand me better as you are a woman. Fatma shoots back, how many times have we supported you as a woman? But you stabbed us in the back in return. You did awful things again and again.

Muka says she was going to testify this time. Fatma doesn’t care to hear it. The only reason you are here, she tells Muka, is for my brother. Rahmi comes in. Wasn’t this subject closed? Fatma replies, [Turkish] she acts as if it is about me not wanting her here. As if I am at fault and being unfair to her. Rahmi says he knew this wouldn’t work out. When Kerim gets out, we will move. I’ll start looking for work.

Meryem intervenes. Rahmi, you are making your sister sad. Rahmi says he’s sad, too. He points at Muka, should I abandon my family? I didn’t say that, Fatma tells him. Muka starts playing the victim. [Turkish] I hope God takes my life, maybe then I will be forgiven! She leaves with Rahmi. Fatma looks as if she will cry. Muka goes down the stairs complaining to Rahmi and Kadir hears.

We go to Ankara. A man and a woman enter a very nice restaurant. The woman notices Turaner and family at a table and they go over. The woman greets Turaner but he doesn’t remember her. She introduces herself, Yasemin Aser and her husband Bora. She says she was on his research team for natural energy sources. Turaner apologizes. He says that was a while ago but now he sort of remembers.

Fatmagul #39 part 5

Yasemin says she tried to contact him many times. He asks her what she wanted to talk about, and he gives her his card. She goes on and on about work projects, blah, blah. She would like to have his opinions about her projects.

Finally, Yasemin and Bora excuse themselves. Meltem says her dad managed that well, he didn’t remember her. He says there were so many people at those meetings, there was no way he could remember her. Ender says he shouldn’t get involved, but Turaner thinks this will help clean his name after so much scandal.

Yasemin takes out her phone and Bora says don’t call now, he could be looking. Yasemin says from now on he won’t be able to take his eyes off me. Erdo gets the call from Yasemin. She spoke to him. She will make an appointment to see him again. Erdo is pleased. He’ll give her anything she wants in return. Erdo tells Selim a bomb is going to explode. He is thrilled. They down shots. Resat comes in and asks what’s going on. We’re working, Erdo says. Selim does a spit take.

Mustafa returns from taking Serdar to his hotel. Hacer has been waiting up for him. He pulls her up to go to bed but she pulls back and asks, were you alone on the boat that night? What night? The night Vural was killed. Maybe you passed the scene of the crime. Musto says he went in the other direction. You could have seen what I couldn’t, she says.

Hacer doesn’t feel good about this. If he (Kerim) is innocent, I am committing a big sin. Maybe Kerim is spending these days in prison because of me. Musto says let’s talk about this tomorrow. He hugs her. She’s feeling very guilty. Is he feeling any guilt?

Mustafa goes to the cemetery in the morning to look at Vural’s grave from a distance.

There’s still some tension between Fatma and Rahmi. This makes her feel very unhappy.

Meryem and Fatma pull up to Rose Kitchen and Mehmet is there. He spent the night there and he’s cleaning the garden in exchange. Meryem can’t believe he slept on the floor all night. Mehmet says he’s used to it. He excuses himself to wash up and then he will go. Meryem explains his situation to Fatma. Meryem says he’s a good worker, a good kid, but… Fatma says to let him sleep here. He can open before we arrive and close at night after cleaning.

Meryem wants to run it by Kadir first. She doesn’t want to make a quick decision. Fatma thinks it’s okay. Meryem says she is afraid of everyone now. What if he’s working for the Yasarans? Don’t say that. Fatma pulls her ears and knocks on wood, “may the evil eye not be cast”. They’ll see how it goes.

Muka corners Kadir as he leaves for work. She mentions the others left for work and that Meryem has been very happy lately. She’s floating on air. Kadir turns to go and Muka adds, she’s changed since she’s met you. Good, Kadir replies, see you tonight.

Muka’s not letting him go that easy. Haven’t you noticed? You have but you don’t want to talk about it. What are you talking about, Kadir replies. Muka smiles her devious smile, ok, I have no problem with it. Kadir looks desperate to get away from her. Muka asks him not to say anything to Meryem, as they are not getting along right now. Notice Kadir’s smile as he drives away.

Turaner goes to his office and finds Yasemin there waiting. She’s not wasting any time.
Resat asks Perihan when Leman is leaving. He can’t stand seeing her around. Perihan says Semsi is trying to bring her to England. Resat says his house is turning into a therapy center.

Fatmagul #39 part 6

Selim and Erdo are laughing it up at the breakfast table. Resat is curious about this sudden happiness. He asks if they are on drugs or are they are going crazy. Selim says they are laughing about Turaner. Erdo says he is now in the hands of the most competent prostitute in Ankara. For some reason, she is obsessed with Turaner. Selim says he hears she’s good with a camera. Erdo says soon there will be a scandal. We might be able to arrange something with him before the videos go online.

Resat smiles, ae you thinking of blackmail? No, Erdo replies, we will prevent the videos from leaking, that’s all. Resat laughs and calls them sick. Resat thinks that Turaner is not the type to do these things. Erdo says don’t worry, he won’t be able to resist this woman. Perihan walks in on the three laughing and wonders what’s going on.

Mustafa comes back from a morning walk. Hacer noticed he didn’t sleep well. He kept moving and saying Fatma’s name in his sleep. While Musto heads for the shower, Hacer grabs his phone. She dials “Fatmagul’s house”. No answer. She dials, “Fatmagul’s shop”. Fatma answers. Hacer hesitates and Fatma thinks it’s one of those calls again. Hacer begins to speak and Musto catches her and grabs the phone away. He is angry. He calls Fatma back.

So it’s you, Fatma says, now this is how you bother me? I swear I will call the police. She tells him they are monitoring her phone. He tries to get her to listen to him. It was Hacer who called you. What do you want from me, Fatma asks. She has something to tell you, he says. Fatma doesn’t want to talk. That’s enough, leave me alone! Musto blurts that Hacer says Kerim is innocent. She saw Vural when Kerim left. She was in a taxi and saw as she was passing by.

Fatma thinks this is a trick. No. Musto tells her he will bring Hacer to her. Fatma hangs up and fills Meryem in. Hacer says Kerim is innocent! Quick, call Kadir Bey!
Hacer thanks Mustafa. He tells her to get ready.

Kerim gets a visitor. Is it Omer? No, this person is not on the list, the guard says. The visitor is not in the visiting room. He is in the director’s office. Kerim enters and the director says there is someone who has come a very long way to come to see you. Kerim is stunned and flashes back to a man walking out the door with a suitcase. The director says your father is here.

Hacer and Mustafa meet with the family and Kadir at Rose Kitchen. She tells what she saw that night. Fatma is happy Hacer was there that night. It was good she stayed in Ildir. Meryem asks, so you will testify? Kadir jumps in, of course she will. Mustafa says she didn’t know about it because she was abroad, but when she found out we called. Fatma thanks her very much.

It’s looking good for Kerim now. [Maybe not so good for Mustafa.] They will try to find the cab driver, too. Fatma mentions the latest news. Musto asks about that. Fatma tells him about the other footprints. Musto pretends to be happy. Fatma adds this person came and left by boat. Hacer gets a worried look.

So at last we meet Fahrettin Ilgaz. He holds his hand out to Kerim. Kerim just stands there stunned. Son.. I… know what happened, I read it in the papers, Fahrettin says, and I was surprised. I couldn’t believe it. I called my contacts in Ildir. When they confirmed, I wanted to come immediately, but I couldn’t do it. I hesitated. If you…

Kerim turns to go but the director calls him back to sit. Kerim asks to please let him go. The director says his father has been trying to see him for a long time. I don’t know this man, Kerim replies, I don’t have a father. My father died. He died when I was a child. Kerim leaves the room.

Fatmagul #39 part 7

Fahrettin is dejected. The director is sorry. Kerim hurries back to his cell. Fahrettin says he will be here for a while, he will try again. The director says he will try to help.

Kerim’s cell mates are curious about his visitor. Kerim says it was no one. How could it be no one? It was a mistake, Kerim replies.

Fahrettin leaves the prison. His driver waits. Fahr shakes his head no. To the hotel? To Ildir, Fahr says.

Kerim has a flashback to finding his mother. He wipes his tears but can’t stop crying.

Kadir arranges to bring Hacer in for her testimony. She will give it here first and then go to Izmir. Hopefully they will get the taxista’s testimony, too. Fatma wants to go immediately. Hacer sits in silence. Meryem hopes that Hacer is not changing her mind. No, Hacer says, I will do what I can to help. Fatma thanks both Hacer and Musto. No thanks necessary, Musto replies. They get ready to go. Rahmi and Muka will stay with the restaurant.

We see Yasar lurking nearby. Rahmi spots him and calls out. But Yasar speeds away. Rahmi explains to Muka he saw that guy. He’s still spying on us. Muka says maybe he is following them. He calls Meryem to tell her. Meryem worries they will try to stop Hacer from testifying. Kadir doesn’t see anyone following. He’ll drive as quickly as he can.

Musto tells Hacer that Fatma is worried she will change her mind about testifying. How happy they were to hear what Hacer had to say. I was worried you would get into trouble, he says, but the taxista will confirm your story.

Hacer is silent. He notices her look and asks if she regrets this. No, she doesn’t. But she says there was someone else there that night. He came and went by boat. And you went out on the boat that night. Musto slams on the brakes. What are you trying to say?! Kadir stops his car, too. I said you took the boat out that night, she says, that’s it. Serdar mentioned it. Tell me what you want to say, do you suspect me, Mustafa asks? You think I did it. Are you calling me a murderer?

Fatma and Meryem get out of the car and head to Mustafa’s.

Musto continues to rant. I was only out for 10 minutes. I went around the bay, that’s it. Ask the other fishermen or my mother. They all know what I did and when I returned. He sees Meryem and Fatma approaching and tells Hacer, why don’t you tell them, too. Tell them you suspect me. Did I say you were a murderer, Hacer asks? I only thought you might have seen something while you were out on the boat.

Hacer opens the window. Fatma asks what’s wrong. Nothing. Did you change your mind? It’s nothing, Hacer says. She asks Mustafa to drive. Meryem tells Fatma to go back to Kadir and she will ride with Mustafa. [Smart woman]

Fatma tells Kadir she not sure what happened. Looked like they were arguing. Maybe she wanted to go back, and Mustafa tried to convince her. They all continue on their way.
The Yasarans are at the office. Yasar calls Erdo to say he lost Mustafa’s trail. He and that woman left with Fatmagul. Their lawyer and Meryem went, too. The Yasarans panic. They worry that Hacer will testify against them.

Muka is dying to know what is happening. Why should we stay in the empty restaurant? Mehmet hears. He says the dough and the fillings are made. If Muka prepares, he will cook. Muka tells him MYOB. [pot, kettle, black] Muka gets suspicious. Are you working for them, she asks Mehmet? With who, Mehmet replies. He gets up and goes inside. Rahmi thinks he can’t be with the Yasarans. Muka continues to push her conspiracy theory.

Our group arrives at the courthouse. They have to wait. Fatma asks if Kerim will be free after this. Kadir says it’s not that easy. The investigation has to finish and then there’s the trial. Meryem says they have to be patient.

Fatmagul #39 part 8

Kerim mopes in his bunk. The others play backgammon or read, and Lutfu keeps his eye on Kerim. One of the cellmates tries to get Kerim to talk, maybe he will feel better. Kerim stays silent. Mail call and nothing arrives for Kerim. Kerim notices a cellmate whispering to the guard and looking in his direction.

Kadir tells Hacer he will be with her during the testimony. Tell them exactly what you told us. Meryem says she hopes that Hacer will not support the Yasarans in Fatma’s case. It’s not too late to speak. Fatma tries to stop Meryem. This is not the right moment.

[Turkish] Meryem says Hacer is there because she can’t carry the burden of Kerim. What she said about you (Fatma) is also a burden. She can get rid of it here. Fatma doesn’t want to mix things up. Meryem continues to press Hacer. Kadir tells Meryem is she going to say she accepted money in exchange for her testimony?

Hacer gets up, you’re right, I’m the guilty one here. She walks. Fatma begs he not to go. Why are you doing this? Hacer turns to Mustafa, let’s go. I decided I’m not talking. I didn’t see or hear anything that night. Fatma says, please, you came all the way here, don’t give up now. She doesn’t care about her case now. Kerim is what is important now. We have to save him. Please go in and tell them what you know. The prosecutor is ready, and they call Hacer in. She looks at Mustafa and it looks like she’s going in.

And we are out.

Fatmagul

Thank you Dondi! For another fantastic recap and for sharing all the details with us!!

Fatma talking with Halide was indeed awesome. It's pretty clear Mustafa was more interested in owning her than in actually loving her. They definitely did her a favor.

It seems Lutfu is trying to make Kerim paranoid, maybe get him to do something stupid because of paranoia?

I hope having Asu as a witness will be good enough for Kerim. I was thinking that if I was a judge all this convoluted 'she was a witness against me in one trial but she's a witness for me now' and even just the fact that all these people know each other would look wonky. But then it is a small town and maybe they will find the taxi driver. I wonder if Asu will find out Mustafa did it, she definitely suspects it, and he looks all kinds of guilty trying to protest too much.

And now we have Kerim's dad. Just about what you would expect from a first meeting. But it interesting he has some sort of influence to get that meeting hosted by the Director of the prison.... interesting. I can't wait to learn more about this character!

Speaking of new characters Mehmet seems like a harmless one and I hope I am not wrong about that. I think though the Yeserans are distracted with bankruptcy and Mustafa is focused on Vural so I don't think he's a plant.

Muk STILL trying to create mischief. She has no shame and she definitely can't handle life without drama. The family was so much better off in her absence.

Fatmagul

Thank you, dondi356.

Fatmagul handled Mustafa's parents very well.

Asu has so many clues about Mustafa. She is just reluctant to put them all together.

About Asu, "What she said about you (Fatma) is also a burden." - What was it that she said during the trial? I remember she was asked to just say that Fatmagul stayed with her. Did she also say that Fatmagul was interested in the business? Possibly something like that. Asu and Fatmagul don't act as if they confronted each other during the trial.

"Kerim is what is important now. We have to save him." - Fatmagul has become the biggest defender and supporter of Kerim. Who would have thought?

Dear Dondi, thank you for another excellent account of all the drama . There is a lot happening . We meet new characters Kerim's father and Mehmet .

Muk couldn't wait to wave that paper proving that Rahmi is the father of the baby she is carrying . Gee, I guess it hasn't occurred to her that most expectant mothers don't have to do this . She just has to play the victim as she meddles in everyone's business.

Watching Kerim in jail separ made ated from the family is sad. However, being separated from Ke rim has made FatmaguL realize that she loves him.

I was glad to see fatmagul stand up to Mustafas parents . She realizes that she dodged a bullet when Mustafa rejected her. He has always been controlling and selfish .

Onward we go .
