Meryem and Rahmi bring her remedies to the herbalist. Two women customers are there. They seem to recognize Meryem and make faces. Meryem begins to explain her products to the women, but they remain silent and look disinterested. Totally ignoring Meryem, they pay the herbalist for other stuff and leave.
The herbalist says Meryem’s remedies haven’t been selling well. People seem more interested in her family than her products. Maybe it is what the Yasarans are saying about you, he tells her. Rahmi asks, what did they say? The herbalist replies he doesn’t know, he can’t shut them up. Meryem bristles, if they have questions, they should come to me.
Meryem takes the expired remedies of the shelf. The herbalist says perhaps they should try setting up a stall in the bazaar. The herbalist pays and Meryem turns to leave. Before they leave, the herbalist asks if it is true what they are saying about Meryem’s DIL. Meryem gives him an icy look and he quickly apologizes. Meryem tells Rahmi lets go to the municipality about the stall.
Mustafa returns to Asu. She has his bag packed. She won’t wait around for him to dump her, so she’s dumping him. He gets angry, thinking she’s contacted Sami. No, that’s not it. She thanks Musto for saving her but she won’t be his slave either. This is not the Asu he knows. What do you know about me, she asks? You don’t even know my real name. You only know I was a prostitute! You’ll be sorry, Mustafa warns and goes. Asu cries. [he’s not worth it, honey.]
Fatma happily tells the family about her sightseeing trip. Rahmi and Murat are very interested. Muka makes her usual negative comments. Meryem is deep in her own thoughts. Kerim is on the laptop and Fatma’s excitement pleases him. Kerim gets his payment from Kristen.
Kerim notices that Meryem is preoccupied, maybe she is tired. Meryem was listening, but she was also thinking. Fatma asks, what happened? Muka jumps right in and says Meryem can’t sell anything. Meryem says she’s thinking about what to do differently. Kerim asks, open your own business? Muka jumps in once again saying, she (Meryem) decided to sell at the bazaar. Let me talk, Meryem says….we went to the municipality and can set up a stall soon. Fatma likes the idea. She wants to help.
Kerim gets an email and Muka jumps up to look over his shoulder. It’s from Kristen. She sent pictures of the dinner party. Everyone gathers to look. There is one picture that has Kerim and Kristen in the background. She has her hands on his face. Both of them are smiling. Uh, oh. Kerim takes a quick worried look at Fatma. She just stares at the pic.
Rahmi says they're probably just talking. Muka says it looks like kissing. Fatma comments the photos are nice and moves away. Meryem says they must have been kidding around. Kerim doesn’t remember this at all. Fatma asks if anyone wants more tea and goes to the kitchen. We see Fatma make a not very happy face.
Muka whispers to Kerim, she’s jealous. He gets up and goes to the kitchen. That means nothing, he tells Fatma. I didn’t say anything, she replies. I know what you’re thinking, he says, Kristen is very affectionate. Okay, Fatma answers. It’s not what you think, Kerim says. Really, she asks, it’s not what I think? She sent that photo on purpose. No way, Kerim says. [is he that stupid?]
Fatma makes it crystal for Kerim—you said you were over it, but she still has feelings for you. It’s clear she is jealous. She thinks there is something between us. Fatma gives an ironic laugh and adds, she is trying to hurt my feelings. If she knew the truth, she wouldn’t do something so ridiculous. Tell her, Fatma says, so she can be calm. Kerim is speechless. Fatma leaves with the teas and there’s Muka in the hall, trying to eavesdrop. Kerim heads to the shed.
Fatma is sleepless in bed. She replays some scenes from the dinner. Interactions between Kerim and Kristen. The looks Kristen gave him. [Who’s jealous now?]
Meryem goes to the shed. Kerim is composing an email to Kristen: “I love my wife and I don’t want to upset her”. Kerim lets Meryem in. She saw his light on. He tells Meryem he was writing to Kristen. I won’t be working with her anymore. He asks Meryem to sit. He notices that she’s looking troubled. What is it?
It’s financial problems, Meryem replies. The money from the house is spent and we will need money for the trial. Kerim says he will take care of it. Not so fast, Meryem says. Rahmi isn’t working, Muka isn’t working, my remedies aren’t selling. We can’t live on just what you earn. Kerim says he will work more.
That’s not the answer, Meryem says. Maybe something we could all do together, a small business. Fatma would be very happy. She hasn’t been talking much about the trial. The therapy has been good for her, and her mind would be occupied by working. Kerim thinks this could be good, too. Meryem says not to mention it to anyone. Especially since Muka will want to ruin everything.
Kerim says they can rent a place. Meryem says the people around here don’t like us anymore. My remedies aren’t selling. Why does it have to be here, Kerim asks, we can open in another place.
Fatma can’t sleep. She gets up to study. Meryem sees the light and peeks in on her. Fatma’s thoughts wander.
Montage: Fatma studying, Kerim working, Muka running to catch the mailman before anyone else. She’s looking for a response to the letter she sent to Fahrettin. Nothing this time. Kerim looks at shops for rent. Mustafa rents a place of his own. The Yasaran boys walk the prison yard. Meryem continues to make her remedies.
Kerim comes home and sees Fatma studying out front. Her exam is tomorrow. He worked late today so he can take her to the exam tomorrow. Not necessary, she replies. He says everyone else will be at the bazaar tomorrow. Someone should go with her. He bought something for her. Something to wear, a white blouse. Fatma gets ready for bed, she sets the blouse out. Kerim gets ready to take a shower. Cut: Fatma is not able to sleep until Kerim finishes his shower and leaves the house.
Meltem arrives home. She opens the door and is alarmed. She tells her driver she had left the lights off in the house now they are on. He goes in to check. Is your staff here? We hear Perihan. Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. I’m going to see Selim tomorrow and I’m bringing clothes. Meltem asks if there is any news. Perihan says the prosecutor needs more time to investigate. The trial will probably take place in June. Perihan asks if Meltem has a message to send. No. Perihan leaves.
Fatma takes her exam. She’s wearing the blouse Kerim gave her. Kerim waits outside.
Meryem and Rahmi set up their stand. Murat gets underfoot and breaks some jars. Muka is at home out front, sipping coffee.
They take the prisoners to a Turkish bath? Erdo and Selim are cautious in the bath, one watches while the other bathes. Cell mates make rude and vaguely threatening comments.
Kerim gets a call. They might have a deal on a shop for rent.
The Yasarans and their cellmates leave the bath and go to the changing rooms. Their clothes have been tossed and peed on. One guy says he told them to take the clothes into the bath with them. So the prisoners arrive back at the prison wearing only their bath towels, except for the one guy. Perihan sees this from the prison office window.
Rahmi calls Muka to hurry up and come to the bazaar. Murat is restless. Muka goes back into the house and we see Munir lurking nearby. He approaches the house and appears at the door as Muka is leaving. She shouts for Kerim as a deterrent, but Munir is not fooled. He grabs her. He’s there to talk. Muka tries to hurry away. He follows.
Uh, oh. Salih is at the bazaar with his family. Salih’s wife heads for Meryem’s stall, then Salih shows up. Meryem is surprised but says nothing. Murat gets scared and hides behind his dad. Rahmi has no idea who Salih is and he starts to give him a sales pitch. Murat says he wants to leave and Meryem tries to whisk him away. Murat points, that man hit my mother! Rahmi puts it together and attacks Salih. Emre rushes over from his stall to break it up.
Muka arrives at the bazaar with Munir in pursuit. They continue to argue. Munir wants to make a deal, Muka resists. She notices there’s commotion at the bazaar and notices Salih’s van. Muka runs from Munir. We see Salih’s upset wife leaving. Rahmi is shouting at Salih, you’re lucky I didn’t kill you! Murat is my son!
Muka approaches Salih. What the hell are you doing here? Salih says this was a coincidence. He leaves. The crowd gawks and gossips. Munir has observed with interest. He takes off after Salih. He hands him a tissue. Salih says his weekend was ruined by a crazy guy. Munir says it happened for a reason. Salih doesn’t understand. Maybe we were meant to meet, Munir says. Tell me what’s your problem with Mukaddes Ketenci. Maybe you can make money. Come, let’s talk.
Fatma’s exam is over. She feels good about it. Kerim wants to take her somewhere, a surprise.
The rest of the family returns home. Muka rips on Rahmi for the scandal he caused. Meryem gets a call from Kadir. She hopes it’s good news. It’s not. The doctor and the gendarmes support the Yasarans. Kadir feels the prosecutor is starting to doubt their case. We have a trial date, he says, June 16. He mentions that Muka’s and Meryem’s testimonies will be important.
Munir laughs, this is no coincidence. God sent you to me, Salih Mercan. We will meet again and it will be profitable for both of us.
Kerim brings Fatma to a vacant property. If you like it, we could open a small restaurant. You can work in your own kitchen. Everyone can, Meryem, Rahmi, at times me too, he says. Even Mukaddes. A family restaurant. Kerim says it was Meryem’s idea. She has seen this already? No, you are first. Do you like it? Ayhan Bey shows up and shows them inside. Later, the family discusses what they will need to open.
Next morning, Fatma says she can’t let Kerim and Meryem carry the costs. She and Rahmi will contribute. Kerim says he worked the figures and they are fine as is. Fatma says this is a family business, they have to put their money in, too.
Muka runs to meet the mailman. He tells her the letter she waited for is here. Everyone is curious. What is it? The mailman calls out, it’s a letter from Australia. Kerim is stunned. He rushes over and grabs the letter. He asks Muka, is this for you? Uh, oh…
Cut: Kerim opens the letter. He reads a few lines and turns to look daggers at Muka. What did you do, Meryem asks Muka? Did you write Kerim’s father? Did you rummage through my room? Kerim gives Meryem a shocked look. Meryem continues to question Muka, you found that letter? Why do you poke your nose into everything?! Don’t shout at me, Muka replies. The two of you read that letter, but I am the guilty one for writing back?
Fatma starts to nervously explain to Kerim, we did it… Muka interrupts, because what? Did you read it or not?! Kerim is gobsmacked. He hurries into the house with the letter. Meryem continues to rip into Muka.
Kerim sits at the kitchen table. Fatma comes in. I am so sorry, she tells him. But you would have ripped it before reading. He wants to be left alone. Meryem kept it but she was going to tell you. How could we know Muka would find it? [Is the Pope Catholic? Does a bear *bleep* in the woods?] Kerim is distraught. Why didn’t you tell me? Fatma explains they thought his father might have had a problem. He’s been writing to you for years, she says.
Meryem rushes in to do damage control. He doesn’t want to hear it and goes to the shed. He tosses the letter on the floor. Rahmi tells Muka she shouldn’t have done this. Muka starts up her “playing the victim” spiel.
Fatma confronts her yenge. Muka’s refrain: I did it for your own good! Don’t yell at my sister, Rahmi shouts. I’m still mad at you! You’re shouting when you should be quiet after what you did! Self righteous Muka grabs her coat and takes off. Don’t follow me.
Kerim suffers in his room. He puts on his coat. He looks at the letter and picks it up. He hesitates, then opens it and reads: [Turkish] First of all, I want to thank you for your kindness to write to me. I was worried, not being able to get his news for months.
You put my heart at ease. For that, I am grateful. Kerim is the only one I have. Kerim crumples the letter, but then he continues reading: even though he doesn’t want to know…. he’s my all…he’s my son. Everything I have is his. And you have my further thanks for encouraging me to see him. I will come to Istanbul as soon as I can. Please stay in touch.
Kerim explodes, Allah kahretsin! Allah kahretsin! He enters the kitchen and asks for Muka. He shouts for her. Lucky for her, she left. Kerim is furious. She will give an accounting to me! That woman is the devil! Who does she think she is to meddle in my life?!
Meryem tries to calm him, but he turns on her, you gave her this opportunity. It’s your fault she did this! Fatma says don’t shout. Kerim continues to rebuke Meryem, how could you keep this letter? How could you read it? Meryem starts to cry. I am very disappointed, Kerim tells her and leaves. He heads to the water and is going to toss the letter but stops short.
Musto has moved into his new place. He finds a pic of Fatma and thinks about her leaving hand in hand with Kerim. He comes across the pic of the rotten ricos + Kerim. He bends it.
Ender is bemoaning the trouble that Turnaner is having because of the scandal. The pressure was too much. He is going to withdraw his candidacy and make a speech later. Ender is weepy and goes on. Meltem says enough. Ender blames Meltem for some of this. [these people want to blame everyone else except the rapists!] Meltem is sorry—sorry she married a man and trusted him.
Mustafa calls Meltem, she walks away to take the call. Meltem says they have to talk about certain things. She’s busy now but will contact him later so they can meet. He says she can come to his place.
Muka stops at an outdoor café. Salih shows up. He stops her from leaving. Are you following me, she asks? Yes he is. She doesn’t want to talk to him . Please sit, he asks, let’s talk. My wife knows now, he says, she asked for an explanation, and I told her everything. I told her about Murat. My father, too. She threw me out of the house. My father fired me.
Meryem is disconsolate. She says this is her fault. Kerim is right, how could I do this? How could I allow this to happen? She (Muka) had so much curiosity, always asking me questions about Kerim’s father. How did I not realize? I was suspicious. I decided to rip up the letter. He won’t forgive me. What can I do to fix this? Rahmi gets up to go talk to Kerim but Fatma says don’t do it right now.
Meryem comments how Muka loves to mess with everyone. Rahmi remembers Muka said she did this with good intention. She likes hurting people, Meryem replies, she knew exactly what she was doing when she wrote the letter.
Fatma sees Kerim sitting by the water. He thinks back to finding his mother. He looks at the letter again. There’s a phone number at the bottom. Is he going to call? Fatma comes out to see him. She apologizes, we didn’t want to do anything behind your back. We weren’t curious. We wanted to give your father a second chance. Ok, it was bad, it was embarrassing. And I know what Muka did was unacceptable. I’m not defending her or us. But you’ve been ripping up those letters for years. I saw you throw one in the garbage. You didn’t even want to know if he was dead or alive.
Why would I want to know, Kerim asks? I’m not asking you to forgive him, Fatma says, but you can listen. You can’t know the truth if you don’t listen to his side. Kerim is firm, I don’t want to know anything about him. Fatma says, I’ve learned a lot after everything that’s happened. Now I realize that things are not always what they seem. That gives Kerim pause. I learned that you ought to look from a different perspective. Maybe your father has something to tell you. If you don’t listen, you won’t know.
Fatma continues, you don’t know what he’s been through, what he’s going through still. He’s obviously regretful. You don’t know what he’s thinking or feeling. You don’t even let him apologize. It must be hard for him. Kerim replies, [Turkish] what he did to me is inexcusable. I will never forgive him…never. Fatma tells Kerim, Forgiving eases one’s burden. Even trying to forgive makes one feel lighter, believe me. It’s an effort you make for yourself, not others.
Resat might have given Munir company shares in return for his “services”. Don’t really care. They talk about the upcoming trial. Asu will testify for them. And soon we will have Mukaddes. Selim and Erdo will be released after the trial.
Salih recounts his sad tale, marriage in tatters, children staying with the neighbors, his father hospitalized under the shock and stress. His father told him, “I don’t want to have a son like you”. I’m staying in a hotel, Salih says. Muka listens intently.
Munir calls Salih. I’m in a meeting, Salih says. Munir laughs, you’re with Mukaddes, we’ll talk later.
Salih lays the guilt trip on Muka, you ruined my life. Muka shoots back, you’re blaming me? Did I ask you to come so my husband could beat you up? What are you going to do now, Muka asks. I don’t know, he replies, but everything is over. I have to start a new life.
Fatma reads Fahrettin’s letter. Meryem comes out back to tell them they have to sign the contract for the restaurant. Are we going today or should we postpone? Kerim has something else on his mind. He tells Meryem, [Turkish] I want you to first call that man (Fahrettin) who wants to come here to see me and give me a hug. Tell him not to get his hopes up. Tell him not to come.
Meryem says she can’t. You will, abla, Kerim demands. You’re the one who caused this, and you will be the one to fix it. Don’t ask this of me, she replies. I can’t interfere between father and son. Kerim answers, there is nothing between him and me. I have no father! He ceased to exist the day he left me and my mother. The day he left us without looking back. If I really meant everything to him… why didn’t he… why didn’t he look after me although he knew my mother had died? Why didn’t he come back?
Kerim continues, what if you weren’t there for me, Kerim asks? If you and Grand Ebe Nine weren’t there? What would have happened to me? Why didn’t he care for his son back then? I couldn’t care less about how he feels now. It’s too late. I wonder how my mother felt… no one listened to her problems. Why would I listen to him now? Maybe my mother chose death because she had no one to listen other than her own self. Kerim’s tears fall. Now he feels guilty? I don’t care! I don’t care!
If he wants to come here, Kerim says, how can he come and look me in the eyes? How are we going to talk as if nothing happened? What should I say, let’s forget the past, let’s start a new life? [Turkish] I can’t stand seeing him, no matter how many letters he has written. Tell him to stop writing letters to make me feel guilty. My father had died even before my mother did.
Kerim gets up and takes out the letter and his phone. He dials and hands it to Meryem. A recording. His phone is off. Probably the time difference. Kerim says they will call later. You have to do this, he tells Meryem.
Muka asks Slimy Salih why he’s telling her all of this. Don’t worry, I won’t ask you for anything. I don’t even have a job. How can I take care of you? Salih continues manipulating. I didn’t think you’d go back to your husband that day. What else could I do, Muka asks? You didn’t want me. You hit me in front of my son and in the street. Salih says he’s ashamed. He was coming that night to apologize but he saw her leaving. He was going to take responsibility, but now he has no money. Muka says at least he admitted his fault.
A quiet ride in the truck to go sign the contract.
Mustafa’s doorbell rings. He thinks it’s Meltem, but it’s Yasar. Yasar congratulates Mustafa. And he also got a promotion. Ismail is now working at the Bulgarian office. But the reason Yasar is there is to report on Asu. There’s nothing remarkable to report. No vistors.
Asu deposits her bribe in the bank. We find out her real name: Hacer Ovacik. She arranges to have money sent every month to Gulbahar Ovacik. (don’t remember, probably her mother)
Muka returns home. Rahmi tells her the others went to sign the contract. Kerim yelled at Meryem. The poor woman was very upset. Muka is not really listening. She thinks back to the night she returned after the Salih debacle. When Rahmi told her in spite of it all, he loves her and loves Murat. And he will always love her. Rahmi keeps talking about Kerim and his dad, but Muka’s mind is elsewhere. She tells him she has a headache.
Salih checks in with Munir. He’s not entirely comfortable doing this. Munir thinks it will be worth his while and worth any risk. Salih is afraid of losing everything permanently. Your job is nothing more than to destroy Mukaddes’ family. Munir guarantees it will be ok.
Meryem, Fatma and Kerim work out the details with the landlord and real estate agent. Meryem and Fatma’s names will go on the contract. Kerim says not to put his name down. Fatma signs, Kerim smiles. Meryem signs and it’s done.
Kadir is talking to policeman Mehmet. He informs Mehmet about the attack Erdo and Vural made at Kerim’s house. Mehmet says he was aware of it but nothing was done because Kerim did not press charges. Kadir says Kerim was scared and threatened.
Mehmet talks about the doubts he had about the family, how people talked about them and then Kerim confessed. Mehmet says he sees some discrepancies in the case. He tells Kadir about the Yasarans wanting Fatma’s missing persons report. Mehmet also shows him the report when Kerim and the rotten ricos were busted for drugs. We see clips of their testimonies. Kadir’s not happy about this.
Vural needs a police escort wherever he goes in the hospital. Semsi complains. Hilmiye tells Leman that the boys are living under terrible conditions in prison. She cries. [too bad, so sad] Leman says for now Vural will have to stay in the hospital.
Perihan is waiting for the prosecutor. He told her not to wait here. Isn’t there anything we can do, she she begs. He says he has to go. Perihan follows him. My son can’t continue in that place. Please do something. The prosecutor says we must abide by the decision, he can’t do anything about it. Can we move the trial to an earlier date, Perihan asks? He leaves the building and she sticks like glue to the him, can they be released on bail? He repeats there’s nothing he can do. Can you at least change their cell? He says that is the responsibility of the prison director, goodbye.
And we are out.
dondi356, both part 1 and part 7 apparently went to spam. I saw your note and restored them. I wish we knew why this is happening. Sigh.
Dondi, you go above and beyond every single day and I know we all appreciate it so much! Thank you!
Kristen still hasn't given up, huh? Sending the photos...makes you wonder what her relationship with Kerim was like. I mean he is wonderful to Fatma but he's in love with her, I wonder how he would have treated a fling. I also wonder what she knows about his pending trail? I mean he missed a week of work when he was detained for trail and it's been in the paper and in gossip, surely she knows something.
Kerim gives Fatma a present and she not only accepted she wore it the next day that definitely shows growth in their relationship! And later when she tells Meryem to give him time to calm down, she's starting to take on the role of wife seamlessly at least in the non physical aspects.
Muka is unbelievable and entertaining....lol her just sitting around drinking tea while the rellst of the family was working and taking care of her kid was horrible and hilarious. What a lazy shrew and then she actually has the gall to complain about everyone attacking HER after she is caught writing to Kerim's dad!! No remorse or acknowledgement of wrong doing AT ALL! What nerve!!
So much of what Kerim said about his father could have been Fatma saying the same things about him. It's so potent and he doesn't seem to see the parallel at all! As a viewer it just convinced me he will have to forgive his father before he can truly find his own redemption. Fatma is right, forgiveness heals your own self first long before it affects the other person.
Muka is still not smart enough to stay away from Salih. Sad, but not surprising.
Mehmet seems like a reasonable honest guy but now Kadir knows there is more Kerim hasn't told him. That night and his statement that Vural is his friend doesn't look good. Let's see if it becomes another set back for Kerim and Fatma just when they are getting closer.
Perihan begging for her 'poor' son is pathetic. They should have cut that scene, lol
Also, is this the first time we find out Kerim found his mother after she committed suicide? I know we knew she died that way but I can't remember if they said before he found her. Such a young child, to find his mother like that is beyond horrible!! Heartbreaking
...just thinking abt Miran response or lack of support for Reyyan in her time of need..
..was his shock due to her illegitimate /bastard status?
..her really being non persona gratis in that house..having no legal status in the community..?
--regressive emotions due to his childhood??
..or he is a demented fool...??
GET HIM -ON-THE COUCH-DOCTOR!!...I am beyond fed-up with this 'boy-man'..!!
...
Thank you, dondi356.
Ay, Kristen, pricking Fatmagul like this with the photo. At least it served to stir Fatmagul's feelings that she couldn't get to sleep. I wonder if Fatmagul admitted to herself she was jealous, probably not.
Opening a family restaurant sounds like a good idea if they can make it work. And having it registered on Fatmagul and Meryem gives Fatmagul the sense of ownership. She looked very interested.
Fatmagul could be the one to get through to Kerim in the matter of his father. She is trying to help him and in the process is getting drawn closer to him. I had the same thought, Darcy. When Fatmagul hears Kerim speak about his father, she may hear herself. Same words: never forgiving, betraying yourself. The similarity gives Fatmagul the authority to advise.
Dear Dondi, thank you thank you for giving your, talent, and effort to recap every episode . It is a monumental job , and every recap is a complete picture of exactly what is taking place in this unfolding tale.
Darcy, I am not sure if this was the first time that viewers learned that Kerim found his mother hanging when he was just a little boy (6?)I can't imagine how that would scar a child...or anyone. Kerim was fortunate tbat Meryem and her mother took him in and lovingly raised him .
Like any good villain , just when you think Muka can't get any worse...she does. She is always ready and anxious to rain on everybody's parade. She is so jealous of Fatmagul , especially now that she observes what a good man Kerim actually is and that he is truly in love with fatmagul. The thing about Muka is that she is very observant and doesnt miss a trick in addition to her eavesdropping and nosy, intrusive nature. What a schemer .
I notice that none of us want to spend much time discussing the rotten ricos, but it is satisfying watching them doing chores in their cell and reacting to their fellow prisoners peeing on their fine clothes .
It is interesting comparing how Kerim is trying to move on, protect Fatmagul and his family, and forge a new life for them all , while Mustafa blames everyone around him , feels sorry for himself, and sinks deeper into depression ..and this guy was raised by two parents who thought he was golden . hmm....
Well, off go vet some Christmas stuff done . happy holidays.
Susanlynn, you have a good point. Kerim vs Mustafa comparison. Nature vs nurture but I think both probably play apart. Kerim has a loving and giving nature while Mustafa is selfish and self-serving. Mustafa's parents seem to be the same self-serving creatures and Meryem is light, love, and generosity. Makes you wonder what Kerim's dad is like although based on the tone of the letters he has written I am going to guess he's a lot like Kerim, can't wait to find out.
Happy holidays everyone! Merry Christmas Eve!
Sorry I haven’t had much time for commenting. I thank you for your kind words and I greatly appreciate the time you all take to comment.
I find the parallels between Kerim and his dad and Fatma and Kerim, interesting as well. There’s a lot for both of them to learn.
Thank you, Lucio, for mentioning all the places Kerim and Fatma visited. Those places pop up in all the Istanbul based dizis. This was the first dizi I ever watched, and it started me on my “Turkish adventure”. I’ve learned so much since then. And I’ll never take my eyes off Kerim either!
Regarding Kerim’s mother: We saw this clip a couple of times before. In the first or second ep, Kerim dreamed about it. Resat brought up the suicide when they were pressuring Kerim to take the blame and marry Fatma.
Recap coming shortly. I won’t be able to recap Friday’s show. So we can discuss that one whenever.
Tried to make this short but… Some Scenes condensed and combined. There were a lot of cuts, but I only included what I thought was most important.
Kadir asks Kerim why he withheld the drug bust incident from him.
Meltem comes to Mustafa’s place. She looks around and gets snarky with him. Enjoying life in the Yasaran Republic, she asks? She is upset because he didn’t back Fatma. He sold out to the Yasarans. I want the guilty ones punished, she shouts. Musto says then tell them what you know.
Erdo and Selim pretend they are sick to get to the infirmary. Selim pays the clinic assistant to use his cell phone. He calls Meltem but she doesn’t pickup, thinking it’s the press. He tries to send a text but is interrupted by the doctor entering. Did it get through?
Kerim explains why he went to see Vural. Vural was drunk and confessed that Kerim was innocent of rape. We know the rest. But Kadir says it’s a problem because Kerim’s signed statement says he went to see his “friend” because he was feeling down. The defense will surely twist that to their benefit. It’s proof you kept seeing them after the night of the rape.
Kadir asks if there is any other time he met with them. Yes. Kerim tells he went to Erdo’s house but found Mustafa there instead. Not good, it must have been recorded on security cameras. Fatma leaves the room.
Cut: Kerim follows her to the kitchen. He says he is telling the truth. Believe this, believe that, it’s always something, she says. She starts crying. You never fail to wreck my hopes. I’m tired of it. Believe me, he says. Then why didn’t you tell me, she replies, what else didn’t you tell me? How many more times did you see them? They also helped you go abroad. Didn’t they go to see you off?
Meltem and Mustafa continue to argue. Meltem says he ruined Fatma’s life and hers too, by not telling the truth. Stop covering it up. Mustafa loses it and grabs Meltem. He pins her up against the window. He shouts she had her chances. She saw the newspaper articles. Fatma called on her wedding day. Why did you keep silent? To be a Yasaran?
In the Turkish he adds, we are not that different. You’re not brave enough to say it out loud, but you want revenge, just like me. Our time will come. And if this couldn’t get any worse, he kisses her. Nothing is impossible in life, he says, anything is possible. You tell me what I am without knowing who you are yourself.
Cut: Meltem gets Selim’s text: please come, please I need you, I love you.
Cut: Muka sneaks around in the kitchen and finds the bag from Salih’s with his number. She memorizes it. She calls and asks to speak with him. He’s not in. When is he coming back? Maybe in a few days. Do you want to leave a message?
Rahmi and Fatma have been talking about what they need for the restaurant. Muka comes in and starts squawking about money. She’s not giving anything towards the restaurant. She says they treat her badly but come to her if they need money.
Everyone is drawn into the argument. Meryem says we don’t need your money. Fatma tells her to stop embarrassing her. Kerim tells Meryem not to waste her breath on Muka.
Muka says use your own money (the Yasaran bribe money that Kerim left for her). Fatma says she’s not touching that dirty money. She plans to donate it to others who are in a situation like hers. Kerim tells Muka we don’t want your money in our business. And no more arguments about money in this house.
Meltem returns home. Her mother and father are there. Her father says he withdrew his candidacy. Nothing will hold Meltem back now, she can divorce. Meltem says she wants to wait a bit, she’s not done with the Yasarans yet.
Resat’s lament: he’s spent a fortune to cover up this disaster and they still don’t know what will happen (with the trial). Perihan tells him that Selim isn’t doing well. Resat says he deserves it. He might as well tell all to the police. Perihan begs him to save Selim. Resat says they should be punished doubly for making her suffer like this.
Meltem calls Munir. She wants to see Selim. Munir says since Perihan’s visit, they only want him to visit until the trial. But he will try to set it up. We see Asu in the car with Munir. He says that Selim’s wife wants to be on the winning side, too. He warns Asu not to forget a single word of what they have talked about. He tells her to lay low until the trial date and don’t talk to any of “them”. Deal?
Cut: Fatma searches on the internet and finds a foundation to donate the money to.
Not sure whose phone it is, I thought Kerim dialed the number from his phone, but Meryem gets a call from Australia. She calls out to Kerim. He tells her to answer and comes into the house. It rings and rings. Kerim again tells Meryem to answer. Meryem hesitates but Kerim insists she answer.
Hello? No, I’m not Mukaddes Hanım, I’m Meryem. Kerim grabs the phone and unleashes his anger, hello Fahrettin Bey, this is Kerim. We have nothing in common except for your damned last name. You are not a part of my life. Don’t try to contact me, don’t write me, don’t call me. Understand? Never come to see me. Never! Never! My father died way before my mother. Is that clear? You died when you abandoned us without looking back. I don’t want to see you, the same way I can’t see or talk to my mother. Show me a little respect. I don’t want you in my life. Kerim puts the phone down and leaves.
We see Fatma recounting this for the therapist. She admits she’s used some of these words herself, but it had no affect on anyone. The therapist asks if she feels she’s not taken seriously. Fatma talks about being forced to do things she didn’t want to do. And now he (Kerim) doesn’t want to forgive his own father. I wanted him to forgive, I tried to console him but he didn’t even try to listen (to his father). He screamed at him. The therapist asks if she is mad at Kerim. Yes, she is because he has put her in the middle of this problem.
We see scenes of Kerim and Fatma working to fix up the new place with Fatma’s voiceover: he wants me to trust him, he says we will create good memories to forget the bad. I want to trust him, but then something happens, something he has hidden from me. I forget all he’s done for me. To trust someone is more important than to love someone. If we are going to go through life together, if we are going to learn to forget everything together, then trust is very important.
Fatma says a quote from the foundation’s (that she’s donating to) internet site: “Each of us has the past shut in him like the leaves of a book known to him by heart, and his friends can only read the title.” A famous writers words. [It’s Virginia Woolf] Fatma says so many titles, so many stories, so many women and children hurt. So many enemies like I have. [Turkish] Some of those enemies are in their own homes. She says she donated the money. Maybe she will volunteer there. She talks about the restaurant. She’s excited about it but it doesn’t have a name yet.
Prison life is getting to Erdo. He attacks Selim.
Kadir visits Vural in the hospital. He has questions about what Vural told to Kerim and Fatma. Vural denies seeing them or talking to them. What about the suicide attempt? It was near their house. A coincidence, Vural replies. Kadir asks why he’s afraid of the Yasarans. Vural says he is not afraid and asks Kadir to leave.
Kadir lays a bit of truth and guilt on Vural. If you keep speaking up for them, you will become afraid of your own voice. A shame. Fatma began to believe that it was possible for you to be honest. [Turkish] It could have been the only chance for you to forgive yourself. With that, Kadir gets up to leave and he drops (on purpose?) pictures of rape victims who were killed. Vural gets a good look. Some honor killings, some suicides.
Fatma and Rahmi walk up to the restaurant just as Kerim and Emre hang the sign out front. The sign says Gül Mutfağı—Rose Kitchen. Kerim says we can change it if you don’t like it. Leave it, it’s beautiful, she replies.
Opening day of the restaurant and Kerim comes bringing flowers for the tables and flowers for Fatma. Kerim has another bouquet for Meryem. Abla… [Turkish] I’ve hurt you so much. I was angry, I’m sorry. Don’t make me more ashamed by apologizing, she says, I know I had fault. All is well.
Murat got into a fight in school. Another kid said he didn’t have a father. Muka confronts the other mother. The mother brings up the incident in the bazaar. Catfight!
Erdo got a week in solitary. Meltem visits Selim. She’s cold to him. He misses her and proclaims his innocence. She tells him she spoke to a lawyer and she’s divorcing him. He begs her not to do it. She tells him she has a new person in her life. It gets heated, not in a good way. Selim blows up, I’ll kill you. [we haven’t heard that phrase in a while] Meltem leaves.
Everything goes well at Rose Kitchen until flowers are delivered. “Hayırlı uğurlu olsun”, Mustafa--May it be good. We also see Yasar come to the restaurant as a customer to spy. Later, he reports everything back to Munir. Munir is doing this behind Resat’s back.
Cut: Kerim questions the delivery guy. He knows nothing.
The family has gathered inside. The flower delivery doesn’t sit well with Kerim. He’s ready to go on the warpath. Kadir warns him this is what they want, to provoke. You have to stay calm. Don’t make more problems. We hear Rahmi on the phone, Mustafa? Is that you? Meryem closes the door to the outside. Kerim grabs the phone. Mustafa asks, why did you call me? Kerim rips into him for the flowers. Musto has no idea what’s going on. They shout at each other. Kerim threatens to kill him. [do we smell a set up?]
Kerim takes the flowers as a threatening message. Meryem asks about protection. Fatma says Musto was just wishing her good luck. Kerim and Fatma start to argue about it. Fatma takes the flowers and throws them in the trash.
Cut: Salih calls Muka while she’s at the restaurant. She can’t talk.
Cut: Mustafa goes to see Munir. Are you doing something behind my back? Did you do something to upset Fatmagul? Munir plays dumb. He tells Musto he is staying away from those people and he should, too. He also warns him his fancy lifestyle is drawing attention. He should have waited till after the trial. On his way out, Musto asks an assistant if she ordered any flowers. Nope.
Cut: Vural has a bad dream. Fatma comes to him and ties the bandana in his mouth. You won’t be able to get rid of me. Even if you hide in prison, I will find you. Where ever you go, I will follow. To bad they cut that, it was enjoyable.
Kerim apologizes to Fatma. He didn’t mean to hurt her, he was angry. But she also needs to understand him a little, too. She cuts herself. He wants to see but she can take care of herself. Kerim says the bouquet is doing its intended job. [It’s driving another wedge between them.]
More talk between Resat, Munir and Semsi about Vural holding up under stress.
Selim tells Erdo about Meltem. Erdo thinks Meltem is lying and she wants revenge. Selim says he loves Meltem. Erdo scoffs, you were only going to marry her because of her father. That’s what Resat and Munir wanted. Enough FF>>
Meltem whines to her mother. Selim is still lying about everything. She hates him. Ender says let’s hope they don’t make it difficult for us. Until you leave your house, your father and I will stay with you. Meltem worries that they might try to harm her father. Ender says don’t worry. [maybe they should]
Turaner meets with a banker to warn him. They talk about that Yasaran land deal. I didn’t give much attention to this but, somehow Turaner will make it so the deal falls through and the Yasarans won’t be able to build the wind turbines. He mentions his daughter’s stock shares will be sold back, too. All part of his plan to totally divest himself from the Yasarans. Discuss if you care.
Perihan calls Resat, Meltem’s divorce papers were delivered.
Rose Kitchen closes up at the end of a successful first day. Kerim hears a moto pull up outside and runs to the door. Fatma tells him to stop being so nervous, he’s not coming here. How do you know, Kerim asks? I know him, she replies. Kerim is ticked, you know him…. of course you know him. Are you trying to hurt me, she asks? You are defending him, Kerim says. He is not the man you knew. This goes back and forth.
Kerim says maybe he is waiting for the right time. Fatma says, after your last meeting, what is he waiting for? Kerim says, I should have… Fatma interrupts, what? Shot him? [Turkish] do you regret that I said “if you love me, don’t pull that trigger”? I don’t want to keep making decisions under pressure. I know my enemies and I decide to fight them according to the law. I’m not scared and you shouldn’t be either.
Salih and Muka talk on the phone. Yasar is there to listen. Salih says now that the restaurant is open we can see each other more often. You miss me, Muka asks with a smile. Murat wants to know who she is talking to. A friend, she replies. Their plans to meet are interrupted as Muka approaches the house. The windows on the house are smashed.
Muka calls Kerim. They smashed all the windows on the house. Kerim tells Fatma and you were defending him. They rush home. Meryem calls the police.
Some kids are around who saw this happen. That woman said some ugly things about you. What woman? The woman who threw the stones. She shouted that you took her husband. It happened this morning, we all saw it. She mentioned something about a boy, too. Muka sends the kids away.
Yasar and Salih conduct business. Muka calls Salih about his wife attacking the house. Mustafa calls Yasar to check on him. He asks him who Salih Mercanli is. Yasar says we’re doing deliveries for them now. Musto asks why he wasn’t informed. Yasar plays dumb.
Salih tries to keep Muka calm. Don’t tell your family. Maybe she won’t come back.
The family arrives and surveys the damage. Meryem wonders when this happened. Some kids said it happened during the day. Muka says, the Yasarans and Mustafa have crossed the line. They are in this together. Kerim looks at Fatma, she doesn’t think its Mustafa. Rahmi says the police will find them and punish them. Muka doesn’t want the police called for this small thing. How can we prove they did it? Too late, Muka! The police arrive.
The Yasarans try to talk the Alagozes from going through with the divorce. Meanwhile, Meltem stays in her room as if she has no say. Turaner says they only care about their daughter. But he’s mighty steamed over the loss of his political career.
Perihan goes to Meltem’s room. Don’t do anything in haste you might regret, Perihan says. Meltem’s only regret is waiting so long. Perihan begs her to give Selim another chance. [How many chances has he had already?] Meltem doesn’t want to hear it. Ender comes in and asks Perihan to leave. Meltem won’t hold this against her. She’s only doing what a mother would, defending her son. You’re the only one in the family who hasn’t hurt me, she says. Don’t cry.
Ender tries to be understanding but Perihan needs to understand that Meltem is her daughter. And that girl (Fatma) has a family, too. That’s why they want to end this.
Fatma is certain that Mustafa did not do this. She’s not protecting or defending him. Kerim brings up the damage Mustafa did to Meryem’s house. Fatma says that Mustafa didn’t do anything to her when he came here. Even when he had the gun he didn’t do anything to her. Kerim says that’s enough. She replies, I talked to him, I told him, “get over it Mustafa”. He listened.
Kerim doesn’t even want Fatma to say his name. Fatma is sticking with her theory. Kerim says Musto testified against her. He’s selfish and a coward. You can expect anything from him. Fatma says maybe the Yasarans or Munir, but he didn’t do this. Kerim responds, you told him to get over it, but I can see you haven’t gotten over it yet. After all this, you can’t forget Mustafa. That’s ridiculous, she replies.
Kerim raises his voice, you are still protecting him. No, she says, I’m just trying to explain. Kerim answers, that day you stopped me from shooting him, you protected him. You said it so I wouldn’t hurt him…and I believed you.
They are interrupted by Meryem shouting for Muka. It was that man’s wife who was here. She did all this. Who told you, Muka asks? The neighbors told me. They heard everything that happened. And the children saw when they came. Fatma shoots a look at Kerim. Meryem asks, why didn’t you say anything?! I was afraid you would blame me, Muka replies. Do you know what you did, Meryem asks? We gave misinformation to the police! They will go to the Yasarans! They will think we made this up. Muka says she didn’t think about that. [I want to know why the police didn’t ask the neighbors. Wouldn’t you think they would?]
Vural tries to escape from the hospital. They catch him outside as his parents arrive. If you can walk, you can go to the hospital, they tell him. Vural shouts for his father to help as they drag him off.
Muka calls Salih and lets him have it. Rahmi eavesdrops and hears Muka ask him to control his wife or we can’t see each other. I won’t be able to keep living here. You are the reason everything went wrong. Salih says he will call her back. Muka continues her rant, you’re not even listening to me. You freed yourself from your wife, you don’t care what I have to go through.
Rahmi has heard enough. He shouts, I heard you! Go away from here! He starts throwing plants and screams at Muka. Shut up you liar! I heard you! You said you started to see him again. Muka tries to explain but Rahmi keeps shouting she’s a liar. You are not my wife anymore! I don’t love you! And I’m not giving you my son! Get out! You disgust me! Go with that man!
Muka gives him a push, who do you think you are, idiot?! Do you think I love you? I had to get married to you. I put up with your stupidity because I had to marry you. I took care of you like you were a child. Ungrateful! I was with you while I was still in love with him. I sacrificed my youth. Who do you think you are to tell me these things?!
Rahmi quietly tells her to go. She keeps pushing him. [how I wish he would slap her!] Muka runs and he grabs her. If you set foot in that house, I will kill you. He makes it to the house first and locks her out. They cut: Rahmi throws her clothes out the window. She picks up a few things and runs off.
They cut that Kerim and Fatma were at the market buying for the restaurant. They weren’t talking to each other. On the drive back, Kerim apologizes yet again for hurting her. The idea of Mustafa being near her makes him go crazy. I love you and I get jealous, he tells her, I can’t control it. You always end up hurting me, she replies. Do you think I do it on purpose, he asks? But you still do it, she says. Kerim responds, here we go. What, Fatma asks. Kerim wants the convo to stop there.
Fatma must be learning something from her therapy because she stays calm and tells him to finish what he started to say. Kerim thinks that Mustafa is still important to her. She never wants to say anything against him. I told him to his face it was over, Fatma says, whether you believe or not is your problem. Besides he’s been in my life since childhood. I thought we’d always be together. I can’t deny the past.
This upsets Kerim, he doesn’t want to hear any more. Fatma counters, but I have to listen to you talk about Kristen. I heard the conversation you had with her. You happily speak with her knowing I don’t know English. You said nothing when you took me to the same hotel you went with her. [really? At that point he was supposed tell her?] I didn’t say anything when you introduced us and including when she flirted with you in front of me.
Kerim likes hearing this. Are you jealous? She denies it. She just gave a counter example. Don’t try to deny it, he says, it makes me happy. Don’t misunderstand, she replies. Don’t read too much into it. Why would I be jealous?
Kadir calls Meryem. He wants her to get ready to give her statement. The prosecutor also wants to hear Rahmi and Muka. Kadir asks, who is Hacer Ovacik? Meryem has no idea. Omer saw the name on some papers. They (defense) called her as a witness at the trial. Meryem thinks she’s not from their town, she doesn’t recognize the name.
Cut: Rahmi shows up at Rose Kitchen and tells Meryem he threw Muka out. She was still seeing that man and his wife broke our windows. He called the school and told them no one can pick up Murat except him. It’s over, he says, she doesn't exist for me anymore. Kerim and Fatma arrive and Meryem tells them. Salih comes to pick up Muka on a street. Do you really want me, she asks? He plays the game, why wouldn’t I? I left everything behind, she sobs, I even left Murat. I couldn’t stand it. I will divorce. Salih gets quiet. Then says, I wasn’t expecting this so soon.
Meltem sells her shares back to the Yasarans. Munir wants her to sign an agreement that she won’t testify against Selim once Meltem divorces him. Resat assures they won’t be called for the trial.
Cut: Leman is trying to reach Munir he doesn’t take the call. They are tying Vural down in his bed. He’s shouting to let him go. They need to sedate him. Leman tries to reach Munir through his assistant but tells her to say he will call her later.
Mustafa plays a game with Yasar. He asks, did Salih’s shipment go out on time? Yes. Mustafa says it’s all good, Munir explained what happened afterwards. And oh BTW, Munir said to thank you for the sending the flowers. What flowers, Yasar asks? Should I assume you didn’t send them, Musto says. Yasar continues to play dumb. What flowers? The flowers you sent with my name, Yasar. You created problems.
But Mustafa thinks that was good. Letting them know he’s near. Musto asks did you deliver them to their house? No, their restaurant, through the flower shop. Musto asks if the restaurant is near their house. Yasar figures out Musto’s game. He didn’t know until now. Musto tries to talk Yasar into giving him the address for the restaurant. Yasar is too scared if Munir finds out.
The family talks about testifying. Rahmi thinks he caused trouble by throwing Muka out. We don’t need her to testify, Fatma says. Meryem asks Fatma and Kerim if they know someone named Hacer Ovacik. They don’t. Meryem says she will be a witness for the defense.
Asu speaks to her mother on the phone. Call me if you need anything, she says. Asu cries and ends the call. In the Turkish, Asu asks if she received the money and she also says, “we are fine”. She makes her mother think she is still in Germany. Don’t tell dad about the money and don’t tell him I called, he will get angry. She talks about the guy she was living with in Germany.
As the Alagozes wait for the elevator, the doors open and Mustafa get out. Meltem will meet up with her parents. She tells Mustafa that she is divorcing Selim and she was here to transfer her stock. Musto is surprised. She says, why are you surprised? That’s how I keep my mouth shut. You asked what was the difference between you and me? I’m not anyone’s toy.
Resat worries that Meltem won’t keep the bargain. Munir gets the news that Vural tried to leave the hospital.
Salih calls Munir to tell him Muka left home for good. Good news for Munir but not for Salih. He asks Munir what is he going to do now. How does he handle both women? Munir says to go along with this until the trial and then I will compensate you.
Sorry I FF’d through the Muka/Salih stuff.
Murat fell asleep asking for his mother. Rahmi says she didn’t even call for Murat. Fatma says we can look for her if you want [Nooooooooo!] Rahmi says he doesn’t want her back. In the kitchen, Kerim tells Fatma he will find Muka and talk to her about her testimony. No, Fatma says, let’s wait a little longer.
Kadir and Meryem talk out back. They talk about Muka and Salih. Kadir tried to get Salih at work but he’s not been there for a while. Meryem worries. Muka’s testimony was very important for us.
Kerim puts a new band-aid on Fatma’s finger. She let him do that? Kerim says, don’t get mad, but it’s peaceful in the house without Mukaddes. You can’t deny it. She gives him a grudging smile. He smiles big.
Sorry, I FF’d a lot of the Muka/Salih stuff again. I think he said something about bringing Murat to live with them. And they are taking a trip to the beach. When they are at the beach, she sends him to get drinks and she calls the house. No one is home. She calls the restaurant. Kerim answers. Muka hangs up. Kerim says another hang up. There’s another call and Kerim answers rudely. It’s a legit order. Kerim is paranoid about the hang ups.
Episode ends with Muka crying.
And we are out.
Merry Christmas! Mutlu Noeller!
Dondi, thank you so much for spending time on Christmas Eve to post this recap for us! You are a rock star!
I suppose this whole jealousy thing needs to be a theme but Fatma is right, she shouldn't have to deal with all of Kerim's ire just because she received unsolicited flowers. That isn't her fault. It kind of paralleled the night of the engagement party though, Mustafa was all jealous and going off on Fatma about Kerim (even though they didn't know his name at the time) because he spoke to Fatma at the party. She had to hear the whole tirade even though she never even said a word in response. Now she has to listen to Kerim go off because of flowers she didn't ask for.
I don't understand this: 'Kerim answers, that day you stopped me from shooting him, you protected him. You said it so I wouldn’t hurt him…and I believed you' Believed what?? She said if you love me you won't shoot, that's all about how he feels about her, what is there for him to believe (about her) in that statement??
Muka is horrible and selfish and she lied about the windows, no surprise there. I can't believe she actually thinks Salhi missed her!?! Smh. I loved watching Rhami throw her out and I admit I too was hoping he would hit her!! Locking her out of the house was fun too though.
Vural's dream does sound interesting, of course they cut it!! What are these people smoking? Maybe they don't speak Turkish or Spanish....
'I love you and I get jealous, he tells her, I can’t control it.' ah yes, yes Kerim you could and you should...
'You said nothing when you took me to the same hotel you went with her. [really? At that point he was supposed tell her?]' this is an excellent point! I still have a hard time believing she cares about the hotel but then maybe it's just one more thing she feels like he hides from her. She's tired of learning one more thing. It would have been super awkward (and funny) though if he had mentioned that in the first few days when they were in that hotel.
It's been a long day and I'm sleepy so that's all for now. I haven't watched Friday's episode yet but I will be back to comment after that.
Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday!
I can't recap like our lovely Dondi does but since Dondi said she can't recap this episode I will share what I can remember.
First this episode was clearly sent to the chop shop to because even where it starts doesn't flow. Meryem and Rhami are back in their home town giving their statements to the DA and we hadn't discussed them going. Rahmi gives his declaration and they tell the DA Muka ran off with another man. Meryem is prevented from hers by an emergency for the DA, they have to spend the night there.
The Yeserans are ruined. I didn't pay much attention to this because, well you know; but Meltem's dad did something to influence the bank to collect immediately on their 26 million EUR loan and they Yeserans are bankrupt now. Perihan's reaction of half laughing half historically crying was the only interesting part. Just when Resat thinks his day can't get worse another bank calls.
Erdo is faking headaches to get out of his cell when he sees Vural arrived he's as excited as a kid in a candy store that his friend is here! Vural seems unamused and Selim doesn't give a damn because he just got the divorce papers from Meltem. He asked Munir who the other guy was and although it showed Munir flashing back to Mustafa I don't know if he actually told Selim because I don't listen when Munir talks.
Fatma and Kerim we're alone in the restaurant for awhile but Kerim had to go to work. We see Mustafa stalking near by. (More likely cuts because how did Mustafa find out where the restaurant was). Then there's a definite cut because next thing we see is Mustafa calmly eating lunch in the cafe with other customers. I know they cut something because later we see Fatma remembering scenes they didn't show. Anyway Fatma is clearly unhappy he is there but trying to not make a scene. She keeps quietly telling him to leave and he keeps playing with her. He asks about Murat, and she sweetly tells him he's getting big and he enjoys playing with his uncle Kerim everyday! Lol Meanwhile Kerim finds out work is going to take longer than he thought and he tries to stop by to see Fatma real quick but an accident blocks the road.
Leman runs into Kadir at the courthouse and actually has the nerve to push him!! She blames him for Vural being in jail. Yeah it's not for that crime he committed...
Mustafa leaves and Fatma gets busy at the restaurant. A customer I didn't recognize but who seemed to be a friend of hers decides to stay and help her serve.
Muka is at the beach, miserable cuz she misses Murat. I am sorry I have a hard time believing someone as self-absorbed as Muka would be so torn up about a few days without the son she doesn't seem to pay much attention to when he is around, but whatever.
Meltem's dad has decided everyone is going to the United States to let the dust settle. No, Meltem can't stay behind it's not safe. He doesn't care if she had exams or if it causes her to lose a year of school. Ender agrees because she is worried about Meltem being alone and the Yeserans retailating.
Kerim calls Fatma and she's finally at a lull. She tells him it was busy. She tells him the friend helped. She doesn't tell him that Mustafa came by. Kerim has a look in his eyes like he wants to try flirting with his wife over the phone but his apprentice keeps interrupting and then Fatma hangs up before he can say whatever it is he wanted to say.
Later Fatma is kneeding dough and we see her flashback to more threatening statements from Mustafa's visit. He said she was supposed to be a rose only for her, he said he was going to kill Kerim. He had also tried to touch her hand and face while he was there (I forgot to say earlier) and told her he will always be near her, always know what is going on with her and never leave her alone. She told him to leave, lol
Later Kerim arrives after the restaurant is closed and is surprised to find it locked. He asks but Fatma just says she had so many customers today she didn't want anyone else to arrive and think they were still open. Kerim sits down and tells her about his day. She asks if he is hungry and he is. Fatma gets up to get him food and he goes to wash his hands. He notices her looking nervously out the door and asks what is wrong. She says nothing. He doesn't look like he believes her
Kadir is talking to Rhami about potential custody issues. It's not good news, basically the judge will give custody to Muka, sorry Charlie. Meryem arrives, Murat is asleep. Rhami can't think of having dinner he wants to be with his son. He leaves and Meryem and Kadir decide to go for a walk and eat dinner out at a restaurant. Meryem goes to get her purse and Kadir has to call Omer because he has money on him. He needs Omer to transfer some money. It said in Spanish that Kadir doesn't have a bank account? Can that be right??? A successful attorney? Anyway, apparently if you know someone's ID number you can send money to an ATM for them! Kadir gets money.
Kerim comes out of the bathroom and starts to sit where Mustafa sat earlier, Fatma says 'don't sit there!' a little too forcefully and Kerim knows something is up. She claims it is because she hasn't cleaned the table yet, Kerim sits elsewhere and Fatma scrubs the table. Fatma sits and Kerim asks her what she is hiding...she says don't start. He drops it. Kerim suggests going home so she can relax. Fatma is nervous again and would rather stay and prep for tomorrow, no one is home anyway there's nothing to do. Kerim says she's tired she should go home and relax watch some TV. She doesn't need to worry about him, he will stay in the cabin (it's not you she is worried about this time). Fatma still doesn't want to go home so Kerim suggests the movies. Fatma agrees.
Kadir and Meryem have dinner, she orders Raki without thinking about Kadir's alcohol issues. She feels very embarrassed and tries to cancel the order. Kadir insists she have it. He buys her a rose from a vendor. I really didn't hear what they were saying because at this point my niece and nephew started opening stockings and they are loud. I know Kadir talked about writing poetry, how his alcohol problem started, and how his wife's illness actually saved him while he had been trying to save her.
Fatma and Kerim make it to the movie. He asks her if she wants popcorn and she says no, he goes to buy his own. They clearly cut something else because Fatma is crying when he returns. She doesn't tell him why. Instead she tells him that the last time she went to the movies Muka went into labor with Murat at the climatic moment of the movie. Kerim thinks this story is charming until he realizes Mustafa was there too. He makes a couple comments but mostly contains himself. They are watching one of the Fast and Furious movies in English which seems weird considering Fatma doesn't speak English but maybe it is subtitled. Fatma falls asleep on Kerim's shoulder and he enjoys this. He cuddles into her as much as he dares. When the movie ends a lady bumps her awake she says she missed the end, he tells her she missed more than the end! Lol
Muka calls Rhami wanting to talk to Murat. He argued with her and says no at first but eventually he gives in and let's her talk to him for a few minutes. I didn't pay much attention to this because I still don't buy the sobbing mother routine.
Kadir and Meryem walk back from dinner. Meryem is cold, Kadir gives her his jacket. They talk about the trial, Kadir says Fatma has become like a daughter to him and he is sure he will win the case.
Fatma and Kerim get home. Mustafa left a note under the door 'The food was delicious I will see you soon'. Fatma hides the note from Kerim. Kerim notices the look on her face and asks what's wrong, she says nothing again. He notices her looking worriedly out the open door. He says he will go to the bathroom and then back out to the cabin. He asks if she will be scared alone, she says no. She goes into her room but as soon as he goes into the bathroom she goes to the back door and searches nervously. Kerim comes out of the bathroom and notices again her anxiety. He says goodnight she says goodnight but when he turns to go she suggests he spend the night in Meryem's room. He is totally looking at her like she has two heads at this point but he just agrees. She goes into her room again but as soon as he goes outside she goes back to the back door to watch for his return. Kerim notices Fatma waiting for his return, something is definitely up. He asks what's wrong now, still nothing according to Fatma. He says goodnight again goes into Meryem's room and even locks himself in (which I thought was hilarious). Fatma keeps looking out the window, Kerim is listening to her movements. She finally goes to her room. She closes and locks the door which Kerim notices but hey he locked his door first. Fatma looks at the letter again.
Mustafa is driving and sees a prostitute on the side of the road. He thinks it's Asu but it is not.
Vural probably had another nightmare about Fatma based on how he started awake but they cut it. Selim and Erdo we're talking about something but I didn't listen to them...
The Yeserans had a pow wow about how to save themselves. I didn't listen to them either.
Fatma has a nightmare. Mustafa comes into her room and approaches her as she's sleeping then Kerim is there with a gun this time he is going to kill him. He shoots several times but as Mustafa lays dying on the floor it is suddenly Kerim who is shot. He says Fatmagul, Fatma says Kerim don't die several times. She wakes up crying. She goes into the kitchen and listens by Kerim's door for minute. Looks out the window again, and gets some water. She accidentally bangs the glass and the sink. This wakes Kerim but he doesn't get up right away. Fatma listens for movement and then goes into the hall and makes a phone call. Kerim hears her talking and quickly dresses to go see what's up. We can't hear what she said or who she is talking to, she hangs up and Kerim asks what's wrong. She startles. Fatma claims she couldn't sleep and wanted to talk to Rhami. At this hour, Kerim asks. She claims she didn't realize the hour. She goes back to bed and locks the door again. Kerim is beyond puzzled by this behavior.
The next morning Kerim comes out of the bathroom and finds Fatma outside talking on the phone. It's obvious she took the conversation outside so she wouldn't be overheard. She comes back in and says she was talking to Rhami. Kerim doesn't look worried anymore now he is angry. Fatma notices his look and asks what's wrong, Kerim's turn to say nothing. He will go put his stuff in his room and come back for breakfast.
We see Murat trying to wake up Rhami it clearly wasn't Rhami Fatma was on the phone with. We see Meryem taking extra time with her appearance this morning before going to meet Kadir for breakfast. Kadir is distracted he didn't sleep well, he woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep (I suffer from this condition). He has had is coffee but he was waiting for them to eat. He goes to get a newspaper.
Kerim comes back into the house and breakfast is waiting for him. Fatma is clearly in a hurry. He asks why the rush, she claims she just doesn't want to make him late. He says he thinks she just wants to get rid of him. She says it's the opposite she doesn't want to be alone in the restaurant today, the sooner he goes the sooner he will return. She herself doesn't want to take the time to eat she will eat later at the restaurant. She is ready to run her hurrying self out the door but Kerim insists on taking her to work. She argues but then gives in. She goes to get her stuff together while Kerim finishes breakfast. Kerim does not look happy.
This was the last scene of the episode.
Darcy, wow , thank you so much for the great recap....and on Christmas.
This episode was very interesting . Mustafa has a lot of nerve showing up at the restaurant and taunting and intimidating Fatmagul to call Ke rim so that he can cut his heart out . Creep. The women who were eating asked him if he and Fatmagul were related because they thought they looked alike (??? ) He said they were old friends from the same village.
Kerim loved it when Fatmagul fell asleep and rested her head on his shoulder at the movies . He was careful not to wake her up. Then, at home , he was suspicious that something had happened when she suggested that he sleep in Meryem's room . It was funny that he decided to lock the door !
Meryem and Kadir are cute together . They are both kindhearted people who always try to support and help people.
Thank you very much, Darcy, for an unexpected Christmas treat! And you did this from memory? Outstanding!
I got up early and watched Friday’s show. Wanted to get this in before I go out for the day.
All of this was cut: after Kerim leaves, we see Fatma preparing food. Her back is to the door and we hear a familiar voice, “Hayırlı uğurlu olsun”, it’s Mustafa standing in the doorway. Not a pleasant surprise for Fatma. This is how Turkish ep 35 ends. Ep 36 picks up with Fatma asking, why did you come? To see your restaurant up close, he replies. He picks up a menu. Fatma gets nervous and asks him to go away.
Rose Kitchen, he says, that rose was supposed to be only mine. What a shame. She goes to him and grabs his arm, trying to lead him out the door. He doesn’t budge. Are you scared, he asks? Scared? Scared of you? Why would I be, she replies in a raised voice. I told you to leave me alone. What do you want from me? I will eat your food, he tells her. He goes to sit, and she tells him not to. He sits anyway.
Fatma tells him again to leave and she threatens to call Kerim. He calls her bluff, go ahead, call him. Let your husband come. I’ll rip his liver out [Turkish expression]. What do you want from us, Fatma asks? Why do you keep bothering us? Didn’t you get your answer? No, I didn’t, Mustafa replies, thinking about it makes me all the more furious. Fatma asserts, it’s over Mustafa. What infuriates you?
Mustafa answers, you were seeing that man while we were engaged. You cheated on me! Is this what you are telling yourself, Fatma asks, did you start believing your false testimony? Musto insists she was seeing Kerim when they were engaged. Enough! Enough, Mustafa! Don’t lower yourself even more, Fatma says. Don’t look for a cover for your lack of dignity.
Customers come, a woman and her young son, and Musto tells Fatma to go welcome them. He also gives his order, borek and ayran. Before she leaves him, she whispers, get out of here or I will call the police. Fatma welcomes the customers to sit.
She turns back to Mustafa, for the love of God, get out of here or it will be bad. I’m not going anywhere, he replies, go on call your husband. Go on.
A woman, Nalan from Kristen’s dinner party, enters the restaurant, with her right foot first and with a “Bismillah” (in the name of Allah). She’s meeting up with the other woman who entered a moment ago. Nalan introduces her friend, Mine, and says she has been wanting to meet Fatma. Nalan brought flowers and a nazar to ward off the evil eye. Fatma thanks her.
Mustafa speaks to the ladies. He says, Rose Kitchen, a lovely name, isn’t it? Yes, it is. Musto says, Fatmagul’s Kitchen. He asks Fatma, did Kerim come up with the name or did you? We came up with it, Fatma replies. She gives the ladies menus and tells them she has to serve Musto first because he’s in a hurry. Oh, I’m not in a hurry, Musto says, I don’t mind waiting. Please serve the ladies first. They say they are in no hurry either.
Nalan comments on the Aegean cuisine. Musto says that’s Fatma’s specialty. Nalan asks if he is Fatma’s brother, you kind of look like each other. [I don’t see it] Musto says, no, we are from the same town, we’ve known each other from childhood. Old good friends, he adds. Nalan asks about Kerim because they haven’t seen him since the project. Fatma says he will be here soon. Musto pipes up, that would be nice, I’d like to see him, too. There’s a ticked and worried look on Fatma’s face. This is the end of the cut scene.
They cut the end of the Meryem/Kadir scene after he withdrew his money from the ATM. [Ha, another advertisement] It wasn’t much, just a little back and forth on who was treating whom for dinner. Kadir said they had him over the house so many times already. Meryem says that doesn’t count. Kadir won that battle. [They get along well, don’t they?]
I know Fatma explained this to Kerim afterward, but they cut Fatma’s flashback to the last time she was at the movies. Mustafa went along and they were separated by Rahmi and a very pregnant Muka. It was the drama, “Babam ve Oğlum” (My Father and My Son, which I’ve seen, too!) Anyway, we get to see Muka’s water break at a very emotional point of the movie and the commotion that ensues. Mustafa tells Fatma, I am here for you. Likely the reason she gets teary. Then of course the very insecure Kerim must ask if “he” was there.
There wasn’t any cut when Vural was startled awake in the prison hospital. Maybe we are to assume Fatma found him in his dream.
Meryem and Kadir’s dinner was a highlight. He put it all out there. They both spoke from the heart. That rose...
Uncomfortable accidental contact at the movies, but Fatma falls asleep on Kerim’s shoulder. Yep, Kerim telling Fatma she missed more than the end had two meanings.
Darcy, “She said if you love me you won't shoot, that's all about how he feels about her, what is there for him to believe (about her) in that statement??” This was the same dialog in the Turkish as in the Spanish. But hearing the words in the original gives a better feeling of his meaning. I took it to mean that at first he believed her when she told him she was over Mustafa. But now he doesn’t believe that is true because she keeps defending her ex. It was a statement of disappointment.
Thanks again, Darcy!

Thank you, dondi356.
"The therapist asks if she is mad at Kerim. Yes, she is because he has put her in the middle of this problem." - Not sure what she meant. Kerim didn't, rather she got involved voluntarily. I think she is mad because while she is taking steps on the road to forgiveness, Kerim refused, leaving her alone on that road. They could be each other's support group in trying to forgive.
Kerim was tiring with his jealousy.
Mukaddes had it coming.
"Fatma counters, but I have to listen to you talk about Kristen." "Are you jealous? She denies it. She just gave a counter example." - I liked this "slip" by Fatmagul.

Thank you, Darcy. Good recap, you covered everything.
Thank you, dondi356, for the cut scene. Wow! This is what they choose to cut?! Unbelievable!
"at this point my niece and nephew started opening stockings and they are loud" - extreme watching conditions. :)
Mustafa waited until Kerim left to come and taunt Fatmagul. Without a gun he is not as brave to confront Kerim. How low will he get? It seems there is no bottom for him. Fatmagul was saying he wouldn't do this and he wouldn't do that. I think she was wrong.
It was a nice date night at the movies for Fatmagul and Kerim although the shadow of Mustafa spoiled it a bit. In the flashback Fatmagul was 13 when Murat was born. She already dated Mustafa. How old was Mustafa? I suspect he was much older.
Fatmagul is comfortable with Kerim. She works with him alone, keeps him company while he eats, takes a piece of meat he cut for her, jokes "I am a good cook, if I say so myself," cooks breakfast for him. The physical touch is still a little uncomfortable for her but I think she is loosening there too. Pretty remarkable.
"She closes and locks the door which Kerim notices but hey he locked his door first." - she actually said she would do it when she invited him to sleep in Meryem's room. I think it made the invitation less strange to Kerim, lessening the two heads impression.
From Kerim's point of view, Fatmagul acted so strange and the phone calls were suspicious. I am sure she is trying her best to deal with the situation, but it is getting away from her. Kerim is starting to mistrust her. I understand why she is reluctant to tell Kerim about Mustafa's visit, and it is his fault, she can't rely on his good judgement, but maybe she should have told him anyway.
Wow, we are so lucky to receive 2 excellent recaps of this interesting episode . Thank you to Dondi and Darcy for letting us savor and discuss what is going on .
Lucio, I think the writers messed up a bit with that movie theater flashback. As you said, Muka came into their lives (shudder) when Fatmagul was 13 , but in the flashback, she not not look 13. Also, Fatma and Mustafa sent to school together and I think he is only supposed to be a few years older. Whoops . Writers didn't check canon of their storyline .
More later.
Dondi, I couldn't figure out who Nalan and the husband she mentioned are or what the project Kevin worked on was .
Dondi, thank you thank you thank you for adding the deleted scenes. I knew stuff was cut but of course I didn't know what. So frustrating! Yes I typed from memory but 30 minutes at a time. (Watched 30 minutes, typed up what I could remember then watched the next 30 minutes) I am not sure what I would have remembered if I had done the full two hours at once, although this show is so well written it makes it easier to remember the details there are certainly plenty of novelas I couldn't remember much about 10 minutes after watching.
Lucio, I had that same thought about Fatma only being 12-13 when Muka gave birth and it would be odd if she and Mustafa were already dating. Though I do think they are roughly the same age, Fatma has said they grew up together several times. I think Susanlynn is probably right about the writers making a mistake.
I don't blame Fatma at all for not telling Kerim but yeah she is not good at playing it cool, at all! I really liked the detail which I forgot to add earlier that when Kerim walked back into the house after getting his stuff to sleep in Meryem's room, Fatma actually reached around him to lock the outside door. She was so freaked out she couldn't even wait for him to lock the door behind himself. I can't wait to see what happens on Monday. I wonder what Kerim thinks she is hiding. Does he actually think she is talking to Mustafa?
The thing that stood out to me about the locking doors, except for the fact that Kerim locked his door which I thought was hilarious was that a few days ago Fatma didn't even shut that door let alone lock it when she was about to take her dress off and Kerim walked into the room. Now she shuts and locks the door. I thought it had more to do with being freaked out by Mustafa than it had to do with Kerim being in the house, but it very well could have been just to make the invitation less odd, or she might have locked the door because Kerim locked his.
I agree that the movie flashback was odd. I don’t know if we can call it a date…maybe? Lucio is correct that Fatma wouldn’t be more than 13. Beren looks younger than her age, but not 13. Maybe Mustafa is a year or two older? Mustafa was clean shaven to make him seem younger, but IMO, it didn’t work well. Don’t know why the show decided to go with it. But I can forgive them for this small “mistake”.
I always thought it was odd that Kerim and Fatma never met, growing up in the same area. I remember Vural questioned this after they met Fatma on the stairs. Kerim said maybe she was from a different bay. But everyone seemed to know who "Ebe Nine" was. And Kerim must be around the same age as Mustafa. I guess they went to different schools.
Fatma rips Kerim for hiding things, but that’s what she’s doing now. Probably because now she realizes that Mustafa is still dangerous. That dream she had scared her. She doesn’t want anyone to get hurt or go to prison, not even Mustafa. We shall see who she’s calling or meeting.
I think Kerim locked his door because the light was on in the kitchen, and he knew she was standing there. When she heard him lock the door, she closed the light and went to her room. That other night, Fatma heard the back door close and thought Kerim left, so she didn’t lock the door before getting undressed. She was startled but she didn’t freak out like we might expect. Interesting.
Susanlynn, Nalan is the wife of Seyfi Usta, who worked with Kerim on Kristen’s project.
