La Madrastra ANTES DEL GRAN ESTREÑO: Everything you need to know

La Madrastra - ANTES DEL GRAN ESTREÑO - Everything you need to know: Quién es quién, the plot, the family trees, the writers, the directors and the producers

This is will in the Primetime page, at least for the start. I just wanted to include some pictures, so I made it into a separate page.

The original series

La Madrastra 2022 is the remake of the 2005 La Madrastra (starring Victoria Ruffo and César Évora) which was based on the 1981 Chilean La Madrastra (staring Jael Ünger and Walter Kliche). Other remakes are: Vivir un Poco (1985), Para Toda la Vida (1996), Forever (1996) and ¿Quién mato a Patricia Soler? (2014).

The plot

During a trip to Spain, Marcia Cisneros (Aracely Arámbula) is accused of murdering Nicolás Escalante (Gabriel Soto) and is sentenced to 35 years in prison. Esteban Lombardo (Andrés Palacios), her husband, considers her not only a murderer but an adulteress who killed her lover to cover up her betrayal, so he abandons her and files for divorce. Marcia is certain that the murderer is among her ex-husband's friends, so she studies law while in prison to reopen her case.

Twenty years later, a lawyer manages to get her early release and she returns to Mexico to clear her name and be reunited with her children, but they believe her dead. Lucrecia (Marisol del Olmo), Esteban's older sister, placed a portrait of an unknown woman in their home and the children grew up adoring the woman in the portrait. Marcia summons all the suspects, who are shocked to see her, but to win over her children and investigate each of the suspects, she changes her name and introduces herself as Marisa Jones. Marcia forces Esteban to break up with his fiancée in order to marry her, thus becoming the stepmother to her own children.

Writers, Directors and Producers

The writers for the 2022 version of La Madrastra are Rosa Salazar Arenas, Ricardo Tejada, Fermín Zúñiga, Anthony Martínez, Juan Carlos Tejeda.

The (creative) directors are: Vicenç Moral Aranda, Carlos Espinoza, Francisco Uribe Preciada, Patricia Carrillo.

The producers are: Carmen Armendáriz (executive), Abraham Quintero Botello.

Quién es quién

Marcia Cisneros

Our protagonista who spent 20 years in jail for a crime she did not commit. She studied Law while she was in prison and went back to México for her children, Hugo and Lucía.

She is played by the famous Aracely Arámbula (Gabriela Suárez/Verónica Dantés in La Patrona, Lucía "Lucha" Durán in Los Miserables, Altagracia Sandoval "La Doña" in La Doña e.t.c.).

Esteban Lombardo

Our male protagonist. Marcia's husband, who ended up believing Marcia is guilty and (repeatedly) questioned Lucía's paternity. Father of Hugo, Lucía and Rafael. Has two sisters, Lucrecia (the oldest) and Inés (the youngest).

He is played by Andrés Palacios (Elio Flores in Señora Acero, Carlos Bernal in La Usurpadora 2019, Leonardo Velasco in Imperio de Mentiras e.t.c.).

Lucrecia Lombardo

The main female antagonist, Esteban's sister. When Marcia was sentenced to 20 years in jail she was the one who came up with the "brilliant" idea to hang the portrait of a random woman in their living room and to make the kids think that that stranger was their "dead" mother.

She is played by Marisol del Olmo (Irene Cácares in De Que Te Quiero Te Quiero, Rocía Arreola in Por Amar Sin Ley e.t.c.).

Padre José Jaramillo

The good priest who believes Marcia. No known family members. I assume he will play an important role, because he is listed right after the protagonists and the antagonist...

He is played by Juan Carlos Barreto (Jacinto Dorantes in Por Amar Sin Ley, Manuel Hernández in La Usurpadora 2019, Modesto Pérez in the ongoing telenovela La Herencia e.t.c.).

Inés Lombardo

Inés is Esteban's younger sister. Is scared by her sister, Lucrecia, who also has proof of something Inés did/is, as specified in the first episode.

She is played by Isadora González (Simona Irazábel in Corazón Indomable, Thelma in Un Camino Hacia El Destino, Joanna in La Piloto e.t.c.).

Florencia Linares

Florencia was always in love in Esteban, but is married to Bruno, who works in Esteban's company. She hates Marcia, but who am I kidding, EVERYBODY from the company gang hates Marcia!

She is played by Martha Julia (Ana Rosa Márquez in La Madrastra 2005, Flor Escutia in Corona de Lágrimas, Gabriela in Por Siempre Mi Amor e.t.c.).

Bruno Tejada

Bruno works at Esteban's company and is married to Florencia. No interesting facts about him, but that means that they will come later in Telenovelaland...

He is played by Juan Martín Jáuregui (Evaristo Rodríguez in Los Miserables, Sebastián Almagro in El Señor de Los Cielos (Temporada 5), Marcelo Arizmendi in Imperio de Mentiras e.t.c.).

Emilia Zetina

Emilia is pregnant in the first episode, but loses the baby (in the first episode too). She blames Marcia for some reason and that's ther reason she hates her. She's married to Donato, who works in Esteban's company.

She is played by Cecilia Gabriela (Daniela Márquez in La Madrastra 2005, Lucina González in Mentir Para Vivir, Raquel de Fonseca in A Mí No Me Dejas e.t.c.).

Donato Rivas

Donato works as a lawyer for Esteban's company and is married to Emilia. Again, no interesting information yet. He's always listed as ambitious in the descriptions I found before watching the first episode.

He is played by Marco Treviño (Moisés Solar in Guerra de Idolos, Carlos Sánchez in ¿Quien Mato a Sara?, Jacobo in Mujer de Nadie e.t.c.).

Santino González

Santino is the one who is giving the dinero to Esteban's company. No known family members, but he has Violeta, the deaf(?) woman who takes care of him.

He is played by José Elías Moreno (Joel Muñiz in Por Amar Sin Ley, Don Lamberto Garza in El Dragón).

Paula Ferrer

Paula makes her first appearance in episode 2. She is Esteban's fiancé and Emilia's niece. As we know from the plot though, she won't actually marry Esteban.

She is played by Denia Agalianou (Karina Grishenko in El Dragón, Verónica Alanís Gómez in Mi Fortuna es Amarte).

Nicolás Escalante

Nicolás is the most important person in the Gran Estreño, since he's the one getting killed. Marcia will serve the sentence for the crime, although she didn't commit it. He is (was) married to Rebeca and has a son, Omar.

He is played by Gabriel Soto (Nico in Soltero con Hijas, Pedro Cácares in Te Acuerdas de Mí).

Rebeca de Escalante

Rebaca is married to Nicolás and has a son, Omar. I'm glad she was only in the first episode, I hate her character. The actress must have played her well.

She is played by Vilma Sotomayor (Amanda in Triunfo del Amor).

Hugo Lombardo Cisneros

Hugo is Marcia's and Esteban's son. I really can't say anything else, it'll be a spoiler.

He's played by David Caro Ley (Javier Solano Montiel in Un Poquito Tuyo).

Lucía Lombardo Cisneros

Lucía is Marcia's and Esteban's daughter. Again, can't really say anything about her, spoilers.

She is played by Ana Tena (Alexa Paz in Soltero con Hijas).

Rafael Lombardo

You might have noticed that I only wrote one last name for him. Well, we don't know who his mom is. It's NOT Marcia. Rafael and the other kids think that they are siblings, not half-siblings and that they are all children of the same woman in the portrait.

He is played by Emiliano González (can't find previous telenovelas, if you know one please write a comment).

Omar Escalante

Omar is the son of Rebaca and Nic. Not many things can be said about him, because I don't want to spoil anything.

He is played by Sebastián Fouillox (Simón in Médicos, Linea de la Vida).

La Tortuga (Rufino González)

Not many things are known for Tortuga. His son is Álvaro, who we will meet from episode 2. He's a lovable character (Tortuga, not his son) in my opinion.

He is played by Eduardo España (He played in El Hotel de Los Secretos, can't find which character).

Álvaro González

Tortuga's son and a prostituto as we learn from episode 2. I'd love to say more but spoilers.

He is played by Adrián Di Monte (Eugenio Hernández in ¿Quién es quién?, Humberto in Eva Luna).

Characters that don't have that much information to share/Spoilers:

Fransisco (Ricardo Fastlicht), Cándida (Montserrat Marañón), Celia (Julia Urbini), Pablo (Christopher Valencia).

Alba (Carmen Muga), Iñaki (Alberto Pavón), Violeta (Epy Vález), Betina (Palmeira Cruz - protagonist material in my opinion), Gaspar Inglesias (Diego Soldano), La Contesa (Iker Madrid - yes, the actor is a man).

Family Trees

People with known family members

Comments:
Weirdo, this was wonderful, thank you!

I'm a visual person so the pictures are a tremendous help. The brief synopsis on each is also a help!

I'm helping with recapping RICOS so although I will have this on, won't really be able to watch closely some nights but this looks really good.

Appreciate your doing all of this work.

Diana

Thanks. Weirdo. I like that I have an idea of who is who before this starts as well as the basic plot. This is fantastic.

(Sorry but I have to say you forgot to put in a page break.)

Looking forward to seeing the first episode along with this detailed guide.

Weirdo, thank you so much. I noticed some familiar faces , including Modesto from Herencia and one of my favorite actresses Marisol, who I first saw in Passion as a good girl and heroine Susana Gonzalez's bff. Now she seems to be playing bad girls.

There are so many characters and a confusing plot , but I will give this show a try.

This is excellent, Weirdo!! Thank you! Like, Diana, I’m recapping Ricos and will probably only half listen to La Madrastra on my recapping days. And omg! I didn’t recognize Marisol until I read her name. I still picture her with the pigtails she wore on “Enamorándome de Ramón.”

Thanks, Weirdo. This is super helpful. I watched the premiere last night and kept wondering where I'd seen Lucia before and now I know. I think Aracely has started off well. I don't know if I'll watch regularly, but I will return.

Thank you all for your amazing comments! I've been having some very stressful and busy days and didn't get a chance to comment.

Diana, thank you! It was really fun doing this. I'm glad the pictures helped. I got so excited when I found some with the characters' names on them!

Jarifa, I'll upload the first recap now. Yesterday was such a busy day that I didn't even have time to copy-paste the recap! Also, I'm pretty new to Blogger, what's a page break?

Susanlynn, I'm glad you're giving this I try! I personally really like it and recommend it.

RGVChick, Marisol looks different now than before. I have trouble recognising some actors too. I almost didn't realize Henry in La Herencia is Alberto Pavón!

Niecie, definitely return! I've watched some episodes and I personally think the telenovela is really good.

Thanks for the comments again!
