EL TRATO (the deal)
#3 – Parte 1 de 2

As all of us guessed, Epifanio greets Teresa at the Mexican end of the tunnel. [I love that clipped, northern accent he uses – I read that he worked on it – and the way he always calls her Mijita] Teresa tells him she thought they were done. He agrees, but says that something urgent came up. He wants her to finish off the DEA once and for all. [Now that’s a tall order!]

The scene shifts to London, and we find out why Oleg is drinking. He’s hiding out from the DEA with his wife and son. He thinks he’s found a safe house with one Ali, but they’ve found him. [They must have blown a lot of the Season 3 wardrobe budget on those black uniforms, black bullet-proof vests, and black helmets.] They are pounding up the flights of stairs when Oleg manages to throw a rope across to another building, take his son on his back, and hand over hand to the other side. Yulia, however, isn’t strong enough. She falls, presumably to her death.

Oleg and Jonathan aren’t best pleased to leave Teresa alone with Epifanio. Inside a room, Epi lays out his plan. He wants to blackmail the DEA. He mentions the Jinete Negro (black horseman) and that he’s in Bolivia. He has the tools for pulling off the blackmail of the DEA. Epi says that the Jinete Negro has the information about the DEA selling arms and being involved in drug trafficking.

Teresa asks what good does this do her. Epifanio says that they will know heads would roll if this came out and would negotiate with him. Also Teresa could go wherever she wanted with her daughter. He’ll sweeten the deal with una propina (a tip) of $5 million.

We see that three guys have been following Epifanio.

Back to the DEA verdugo. [Have they said his name? I haven’t picked it up, although I might have heard a “Jim”] They’re trying to locate the tunnel. [I thought they knew where it was and sent all those guys into it after Teresa and the guys.] The DEA guy, maybe Jim, gets a call from the tall, evil blonde. Her name is Jane Kozar, and she’s a United States Senator. She reams “Jim” for not capturing Teresa yet. We also learn that she was the one who got Teresa captured four years ago.

Teresa says she can fight them all by herself, but Oleg insists he’s coming. Not for her, but for himself. [Probably referring to them causing his wife’s death.] Jonathon also insists on coming. He wants to get even because the DEA screwed him over and killed Willy.

In Colombia, Rocío, Batman, and Faustino are looking for Sofia. We see that the guy helping her is a good guy. He can’t afford a phone, but he will get one from a friend so she can call her sister in Colombia.

Teresa first wants double the $5 million from Epi. And then she says she won’t step foot until she sees her daughter. Epifanio insists that Pablo Landero come with her.

We find out that the 3 guys who were following Epifanio Vargas have been sent by Antonio Alcalá (Eduardo Yáñez). He was a good guy in the second season, the father of Alejandro Alcalá and Genoveva Alcalá (la Bebita). Alejandro, his son, was a real bad egg and was killed off in Season 2. Antonio is the head of the opposition party in Mexico. Not sure, but I think he’s planning to run against Epifanio. They get a big surprise. One of the trio chasing Epifanio gets a photo of Teresa Mendoza.

Jim, or whatever his name is, sets up a roadblock, but Epi is way ahead of him. They’ve sent some drivers without passengers to the roadblock. Love to see Jim throw a hissy fit. And it’s lots easier to read his lips for the curse words in English.

EL TRATO (the deal)
#3 – Parte 2 de 2

Oleg and Teresa are being injected. I am mystified at first, but later discover it’s some sort of tracking device, doubtless so Epifanio and Pablo can be sure she won’t just slip away.

Epifanio tells one of his henchmen that Vanessa’s disguise was crap. He throws the cheap leather jacket he wore to the encounter with Vanessa in a hotel room and later to meet Teresa on a table in a restroom.

Epifanio is in Chihuahua making a speech about aid for public schools.

Jim figures out that Oleg couldn’t have paid for Teresa’s rescue. Oleg lost everything. This Charlie guy who seems to be his second in command says something about locating Teresa’s daughter. [Uh oh!]

Mateo, Sofia’s rescuer in Colombia, tells her he doesn’t have anything to do with drugs. He helps out a priest and tries to bring addicted boys to the priest to be helped.

Antonio Alcalá says that he thought he’d lost his chance to avenge his son’s death at the hands of Teresa Mendoza, but maybe not. The general who’s been helping Alcalá tells Antonio that he could be court martialed for going against Epi.

While the “team” is preparing to go to Bolivia, Oleg tells Teresa she needs to call Sofia. He knows where she is.

Sofia has come to where Faustino and the others live. She’s getting a warm recaption. Faustino gives her a cell phone, a tablet, and her choice of some nice clothing.

Teresa and Pablo continue to not get along. She tells him she doesn’t work for Epifanio Vargas, and this…pointing between the two of them…is just an alliance. They are at some big yard with 10 wheeled trucks and lots and lots of containers. The three guys reporting to Alcalá have followed her there.

Teresa calls Paloma and finds out that Sofia was having some problems in Spain and went to Colombia. Paloma tells her that Sofia talked about her every day. Teresa memorizes Rocío’s phone number.

Pablo goes into an office in this place, bribing a guard, and puts on a camo uniform. While he’s inside the three guys grab Teresa and try to force her into a car. But those workouts in Colorado paid off. She breaks the arm of one of them, and beats up on the other two.

Pablo tracks Teresa on his phone. She’s running through all those containers. She tricks a guy into thinking that she’s inside one and then jumps him when he tries to go in after her. Pablo is still running fast trying to get to her. The guy who was farthest behind tries to shoot Teresa, but she pulls his buddy in front of her and he’s the one who gets shot. Then she grabs the gun and shoots the last guy.

Whew! So far this one is total action. Well done action, but I’m ready for some conversations and getting to know more about the newer characters.

Wow, novelera, ¡muchísimas gracias! for another superb, immensely helpful recap.

I'm still trying to decide what I think about the plot. Clearly, the plan to get Teresa out of the maximum-security prison took a huge amount of time, thought, effort, and money. It's not wholly clear to me why Epifanio was willing to invest the time and money to free Teresa. He apparently already knew about El Jinete Negro in Bolivia, who has info and documents to prove that the DEA is corrupt. Why did Epifanio think he needed Teresa (rather than any number of other talented, more readily available people) to try to get that info?

I'm glad we finally have a name for the evil blonde woman in Washington who would happily see Teresa killed: Jane Kozar, who is a U.S. Senator. But can she be a U.S. Senator and also a high up person in Interpol? When she calls, "Jim" is told that Interpol is calling and wants to know who's in charge. Jim gets on the phone and tells her he was about to call her.

So now we find that Antonio Alcalá is about to go after Teresa as well, seeking vengeance for his son's death in season 2. Antonio was only trying to bring down Epifanio, but when the guys he has hired to get incriminating photos of Epifanio come up instead with a photo of Teresa Mendoza, he adds to the anti-Teresa effort. Frankly, I'm still trying to identify people and get the basic plot line straight. I'd have preferred if the writers had held off adding another anti-Teresa endeavor for few more days. Oh well....

Like you, novelera, I winced at Charlie's suggestion that they try to get Teresa through her daughter, pointing out that it had worked once and could perhaps work again. Arrgh!

And I agree with your saying that the action was well done, but you'd like "some conversations and getting to know more about the newer characters."

reina3

Thank you novelera for this terrific recap! I really appreciate all the detail and the extra information (Epifanio’s accent). When he calls Teresa “mijita” it always sounds so loving as if they were planning a Sunday picnic. The extra Spanish is always so helpful!

Yay! Eduardo Yáñez is back! I was wondering if Big Ed would want venganza for the death of his son and we all remember he hated Epifanio as the love interest for his daughter, for good reason, I might add.

I cannot help with the DEA dude, aka “Jim”, first name. I did notice that Charlie was one of the DEA agents in London after Oleg. He witnessed firsthand Yulia’s death. Poor Oleg, he really loved his wife. I hope his son is safe.

The whole “take down the DEA” plot sounds a bit off to me as well as heading off to Bolivia to find the Black Horseman. When I was in the military, I spent time in South America. I look forward the Bolivia adventure and scenes. It is a beautiful country as is Colombia.

So glad the Sophia was saved by Mateo. It looks like Faustino, Rocio, Shelia and Batman now deal in goods and not drugs.

Teresa continues to prove to be a total bad ass and Pablo is going to have his hands full escorting her around. Definitely lots of well-done action. We are off to a great start! Thank you novelera!!

reina3

First, many thanks to VVS for a fantastic recap even if she thought it wasn’t a recap. It was very helpful.

Thank you, novelera, for another great and helpful recap.

There’s so much action and it’s so easy to miss the details. Like others, I’m impatient for a little more conversation and a little less action.

Well, Oleg’s wife is “presumably” dead as novelera noted. That opens a door for Oleg and Teresa. But novela characters have a habit of coming back from the dead. Or can we expect that Pablo and Teresa will go from hate to love in a couple of weeks and Oleg gets blocked.

Wonder where Oleg’s son is now. Is he around the same age as Sofia?

The DEA is operating more like the CIA, with Sen. Kozar in charge.

It was mentioned that Teresa killed 3 DEA agents. I figure they are talking about Manuela/Kira and Alejandro, but who was the third?

I can’t recall if they mentioned the name of the DEA guy chasing Teresa but it’s listed in IMDb as Ernie Palmero played by Ed Trucco. I don’t think he was in Reina 2. I remember this actor from Otro Lado del Muro. IIRC, he was an immigration agent.

I’m happy that Faustino Sanchez Godoy, Rocio, Batman and Sheila are back and doing well. Did they give up the drug trade and open a black market department store?

I’m with Jarifa on this, I wish we had another great corrido as the theme song.

I’m recapping tonight and I hope I understand what’s going on.

reina3

Thanks, Novelera. Love to see Jim throw a hissy fit. And it’s lots easier to read his lips for the curse words in English. -- lol!

So Epifanio just wants to take down the DEA and Teresa is the only one right for the job? Okay.

reina3

Juanita, your logic is showing! Of course Epi needs Teresa to go to Bolivia and get the incriminating evidence. He couldn't just send the seemingly capable Pablo to do it for him all by himself. Yes, the evil Senator thing is a bit thin. Not that such a creature would never exist, just that she has an inordinate amount of power over the DEA and Interpol. And...I'm going to be in full-scale revolt if they repeat the kidnapping of Sofia. I hope it's just a red herring.

VVS, yep, Big Ed is back and looking much better than he did in Falsa Identidad 2. He does a decent job of playing a total baddie, but maybe good guys, or sorta OK guys, suit him better. Yes, whatever Faustino and the rest are doing in Colombia looks odd. Hard to believe it's a legal enterprise, but who deals in electronics AND clothes? I hope you'll furnish us with some memories of Bolivia. The most I know about it is that it has a high percentage of indigenous people and high mountains.

Dondi, I loved the Elvis callout, inverted: a little more conversation and a little less action. Good point about the possibility of Oleg's son showing up. I'd enjoy that, unless they go with his blaming Teresa for his mother's death. She has enough enemies already. I like "Jim" better than Ernie, so maybe I'll stick with that until someone calls him by name. I thought the original corrido was by Los Tigres del Norte, but Mr. Google tells me it was Los Cuates de Sinaloa. And, yes, I'd love full-on corrido for the theme music.

Niecie, we're on the same page about the lip reading. It's a lot easier to see his f-bombs than the more subtle ones the Mexican characters use. But I can sort of read those too.

Reina3 #4 part 1

A deal was done while Epi gave his speech at the school. Delio receives the money from some shady guy and says, “este arrocito ya se coció” – this rice is already cooked - it’s a done deal. Sorry, not sure what the deal was all about but Epi received a lot of USD.

Pablo reports back that Teresa was attacked, and it looked like they wanted to kidnap her. Who could have planned this? [Alcala’s guys?] Teresa grabs the phone from Pablo and rips into Epi about this breach of safety. She warns him she won’t carry through with the plans. He reassures her and tells her to go to Spain. I guess that’s to find Sofia. Teresa tells Epi she’s going to Colombia instead.

Palomino, Colombia. Sofia uses her tablet to do a search for “santa marta padre gonzalo perea” but she’s interrupted by Rocio. Rocio is not happy with Sofia’s escape from Malaga, but she won’t give her grief about it. She will support her little sister. [remember that Rocio was a rebellious one]

Rocio wants to find a school for Sofia. Sofia doesn’t want that. School is not for her. She wants time to think about what she wants to do. She’s tired of being told what to do. She’s appreciative of Paloma and Rocio but she says, it’s time for me to make my own life decisions. [How old is Sofia now? About 15? 16?]

Disguised as Mexican National Army and with false documents, Pablo and Teresa take a military flight to Colombia.

Back in Colombia, the adults discuss Sofia. Rocio is concerned that Sofia will never finish school. Faustino says maybe she wants to start working. Sheila doesn’t think so—maybe she wants a boyfriend. Batman thinks school isn’t necessary. I didn’t finish elementary school, he says proudly, and look how far I got. Dead silence. Sheila finally says, we have to convince Sofia to go to school. Ha, ha.

Teresa calls Rocio from the flight. She asks if Sofia is around. She’s not. Rocio wonders how Teresa knows Sofia is there. Nevermind that now, Teresa says she needs help and wants to speak with Faustino. We don’t hear their conversation.

Meanwhile back in CO, Charlie shows Jim important info he found. It’s the video of Sofia fighting the bully in Malaga three days ago. The guys are impressed with Sofia’s skills. Like mother like daughter. Jim says, now we have a plan.

Back to Colombia and Faustino fills in the group. They wonder how Teresa got out. Faustino says they have to keep this a secret from Sofia. He has some coordinates on a tablet. I suppose that’s where Teresa will land.

Bebita gets a new personal assistant, Susana Guzman, that she doesn’t want. This woman will help Epi keep control over Bebita. He’s worried about Bebita getting hurt, but above all, he doesn't want Bebita talking to the wrong person. Bebita claims she hasn’t spoken to her father or anyone in a long time. Nevertheless, Epi wants it this way and adds, if you want to see your son again…

Pablo says it’s not safe to land the plane. Teresa and Pablo must parachute out, landing on a beach.

The general informs Alcala that a military plane flew to Colombia but didn’t land. It just turned around and flew back to Mexico. There were two on board, a man and a woman. He checked the names—they don’t exist. You think it was Teresa Mendoza, Alcala asks? Yep. But why would Teresa want to go to Colombia?

Teresa looks out over the water. Sometimes life is so beautiful, it doesn’t seem like life itself, she says. It feels good to be able to see as far as I want and not run into a wall. Pablo adds, being in prison is worse than being dead. That gets a look from Teresa. She asks, have you been in prison? Pablo gives her a look that might confirm it and quickly changes the subject. We have to hurry, or we won’t arrive in time, he tells her.

Reina3 #4 part 2

Teresa and Pablo arrive at Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. A small village of indigenous people.

Teresa is curious and asks Pablo why he’s doing this. For money? Do you owe Epifanio a favor? Did he blackmail you? Pablo has no interest in explaining why he does what he does. Teresa presses for answers. Why do you trust Epi so blindly?

Pablo turns the tables and accuses Teresa of projecting her own mistakes on to him. You’re the only who trusts blindly He gives her a rundown. You trusted two DEA agents: Raymundo Davila, “El Güero” and Francesco Belmondo, “Lupo”. You also trusted Santiago Fisterra from Galicia and ended up in a Spanish jail. Last but not least, Teo Aljarafe, the father of your daughter. So who is the trusting one? I see you know a lot about me, Teresa answers, but I’ll tell you something, you know nothing about me. She walks away from him. [I get the feeling they will come to know each other very well.]

At the same time, Faustino, Rocio, Batman and Sheila bring Sofia for a tour of the village. This leads to a very emotional mother and child reunion. At first, both can hardly believe what they see. Sofia runs to her mother. Teresa looks at how her much her daughter has grown. They embrace and cry.

I didn’t think I’d see you again, Sofia says. Teresa responds, I’m here now. I refuse to be separated from you. Not for a single moment. I swear, even if I have to kill someone. [doesn’t she have Epi’s work first? Wonder who’ll be the someone she kills.] Everyone else looks on, clearly touched, including the inscrutable Pablo.

Kozar and Jim meet at Arlington National Cemetery. He’s told her his plan but we don’t hear the details. She says it’s very risky. It’s all we have, he answers. What’s the chances of success, she asks. We have the element of surprise, Jim says. Kozar thinks chances are not good. She warns if he gets into trouble, she can’t help. Just resolve the problem. She leaves.

Jim calls Charlie. He’s on his way and almost there. Do what ever it takes, Jim tells him. I know, Charlie says with an evil glint in his eye.

Big reunion celebration in Santa Marta, Colombia. Drinking, dancing.

Meanwhile, Oleg, Jonathan and Anton arrive in La Paz, Bolivia.

Teresa explains her mission to the group. Sofia’s not happy. She asks, how long will you be gone? Teresa doesn’t know. Sofia wants to know—a week, a month, a year? Wasn’t the time we were apart enough? The girl bolts from the table. Teresa goes after her.
Charlie and another agent arrive at Paloma’s.

Oleg, Jonathan and Anton drive around to start the hunt for the Black Horseman. It will be like finding a needle in a haystack. All they have is an unclear photo. Oleg is feeling the effects of the high altitude. I think Jonathan gives him coca leaves. [drinking alcohol isn’t advisable.]

Oleg asks Jon what he knows about Sen. Kozar. Jon heard some stuff about people who controlled the DEA from above. But he’s not sure who and how it was done. Anything about Bolivia, Oleg asks? Only that the US gov’t and the DEA had dirty business there, Jon answers. Oleg says the DEA chose the wrong enemies this time. Vargas or Teresa, Jon asks. I’m talking about me, Oleg replies as he takes a swig from his flask.

Paloma arrives home to find the housekeeper, Trini, beaten, bound and gagged on a dining room chair. Charlie and buddy draw their guns on Paloma. What do you want, she asks in panic. Money? No. We want information, Charlie says with his gun pressed against Paloma’s head, where is Sofia Dantes? Paloma sobs, I don’t know.

Teresa catches up to Sofia on the beach. How am I supposed to react, she asks her mother. I thought this was over. Now you’re leaving? Teresa tells her she didn’t want this, but she had no choice. Sofia says that Teresa had no idea what it was like alone in Australia, her life in Spain and in Colombia.

Reina3 #4 part 3

Teresa promises this time it will be over. She explains that she did what she did in Australia was to protect Sofia. She tells her daughter that she isn’t a normal child. I trained you all your life for this, so you can protect yourself when I’m not there. That’s the life you got. I couldn’t let them catch you, too.

Is that why you are leaving me alone again, Sofia asks, are you doing this for me? Yes, Teresa answers, for you and for me. Sofia pleads with her to forget this. You’re free, you’re with me. Let’s find a place where they won’t find us. Teresa responds, we did that and it didn’t work. Those bastards won’t stop until they catch me.

Paloma is tied up and Charlie continues to question her. Tell me quickly and this will be over. Paloma sticks to her story, she knows nothing. Charlie bashes her and Paloma and the chair tip to the floor. Charlie sees a pic of Paloma and Ray. This gives him an idea. Maybe the boy knows where his aunt is. He threatens to kill Trini and she spills, Ray is at daycare, and she gives the location. Charlie takes out his phone. Then there is a knock at the door.

Teresa recounts her time in prison for Sofia. There were times she thought she would go crazy. You don’t see anyone but the guards. You don’t have a real conversation with anyone. (We see flashbacks of Teresa suffering in prison.) The same routines every day. They never shut the lights 24/7.

Do you know why I didn’t go crazy, Teresa asks. I held on strongly to one dream: to see you again…. to touch you, to see you grow, to hug you. That’s what kept me alive. That’s all I’m fighting for. So that you’ll never be in danger again. For us to live together without having to hide.

Sofia asks if this task is dangerous. Very, Teresa replies, it’s a big and powerful enemy. Sofia says she dreamed of seeing her mom again. She didn’t think it would be like this. She asks Teresa, what am I going to do if something happens to you? I won’t be able to stand it. I can put up with anything else but you being gone.

Teresa tells Sofia she can handle that and more. You’re a strong girl. And for me, I’ll do whatever it takes to see you again. I’m happy to know that you’re here with people who love you and will take care of you and protect you. So don’t be like this. You’re strong, hold on a little longer.

The guy keeps knocking on Paloma’s door. Of course, she can’t answer because she is being brutalized by Charlie and his accomplice. The guy tries calling Paloma. He hears her phone ringing inside. Paloma and Trini are taken to the kitchen and told to lay low and be quiet. While Paloma’s visitor walks around the outside, Charlie calls someone with the info on the daycare and tells them to get the boy in the picture he sent them.

Charlie gets up to check and Paloma manages to until herself. She makes a run for it. She calls out for her friend, Frank! Frank! Call the police! Charlie’s buddy kills Trini. And Charlie shoots Frank at the front door. Paloma manages to escape the house and speeds away in a car. [ha, she learned a lot from season 2!]

Faustino is suspicious of Pablo and doesn’t like him. Batman agrees and says that guy works for Epifanio Vargas. Faustino has doubts about working with Epi. He wonders if Teresa really wants to do this job for him. Batman wants to give it a go. He says, I was born in Mexico and I’m going to die in Mexico. I’ll do whatever it takes. Faustino answers, “ Pues a huevo” [looked it up - “yes, of course”] The guys drink to that.

Pablo checks in with Epi. He says Batman will help them get to Bolivia. Pablo needs money. Epi registers a mild complaint but says he will send a few cents. Epi asks about the Russian and the others. Pablo tells him they are already in La Paz.

Reina3 #4 part 4

Oleg, Jon and Anton begin their search for the Black Horseman. Oleg looks at the photo and says the plan is to look for the location in the picture. They split up. Oleg stops at a stand. The merchant says what do you want, gringo? I have amulets for love, little flames (?) for luck in your new home. Oleg inspects a knife. He tells the merchant, I’m not a gringo, but I’m interested in this knife. She tells him it’s a miner’s knife that can cut stone. He buys it.

Paloma frantically tries to call the daycare to warn them. There’s too much noise loud music for the teacher to hear the phone.

Delio packs away money in a briefcase. He asks Epi if he’s sure it won’t be checked when he arrives in La Paz. Epi says no, it’s a diplomatic briefcase. Not even God can search it. You’re representing the President of Mexico. Delio questions whether they are investing too much money in this plan and has doubts about the Black Horseman. Epi is sure if he exists, Teresa Mendoza will find him. Reelection is coming and we want to stay for the next 6 years. We’re going to be rich! They laugh.

When Paloma makes it to the daycare, she finds a teacher was shot and killed. The other teacher and the kids are hiding in another room. Where’s Ray, she asks in a panic? The teacher shakes her head.

And we are out.

Thanks VERY MUCH, dondi356, for this superb recap! You cover everything, and even include some useful Spanish phrases that I didn't know.

So far, I've been enjoying season 3, but I wish I had re-watched season 2 to refresh my failing memory of the events and people I needed to know for season 3. Oh well.... Thankfully you, VVS, and novelera have been able to make the connections I can't.

Though I'm enjoying what we've seen so far of season 3, I'm surprised that Telemundo is airing it at 9 PM rather than 10. The amount of violence in just these few episodes, coupled with what was shown of what we're about to see (I don't usually watch that, but...), makes me all the more puzzled at the 9 PM time slot.

The one thing I'm disappointed at is the "let's kidnap Sofia" plan. That was the heart of season 2, but ¡ya basta! I'm hoping this will NOT be a major part in season3, that the writers are more imaginative than that and are just playing with us. ¡Ojalá!

Reina 3

Thank you, Dondi. I really enjoyed your excellent. recap. I didn’t take any notes last night but didn’t need to thanks to you.

Juanita, ITA that we do not need “let’s kidnap Sofía” one more time. So far this has been excellent. I hope they do not spoil it.

reina3

Thanks, dondi, for the excellent recap! I always enjoy your phrasing and details. I hadn't heard the arroz ya se coció for a long time. It was especially fun that he used the diminutive for the rice, something Mexicans are quite prone to do.

You had the perfect description for Pablo: inscrutable. I'm sure we'll get his back story at some point, and I'm looking forward to it.

They sent me to google to look up altitude in La Paz: almost 12,000 ft. I grew up in Ohio, highest altitude 1,500 ft, and I live in the Bay Area in California, not high at all. I'm quite affected by this, noticed it on vacation in Santa Fe. And I've backpacked to 10K. It's easier when you walk to altitude than arrive in a plane. But I've gotten "the headache" and a sense of being weak.

I have a feeling we're back to Chekhov's gun. "If it's shown in Act 1, it must be fired..." I'm pretty sure Oleg is going to stick that knife in someone reasonably soon.

We all seem to be in agreement that kidnapping Sofia should be off the table. I am still hoping for it being a red herring. If only Sofia wasn't such a free spirit and would stay close to Faustino and Batman. That Charlie has zero human feelings.

The money is interesting. In the recap you say that Epi received it. For some reason I thought he was packing it up for Delio to take to Bolivia. You're probably right. When doing a recap, we all try to get things right.

reina3

Yay! A dond356 Saturday recap! Thank you so much for all the details and focus. I always enjoy your vivid descriptions of events and dialogue.

I don’t think Sophia is more than 13 or 14. She was pre-puberty in the second season, so 9 or 10. I vaguely remember her celebrating her birthday while under Lupo’s watch and he let her call Teresa. Right now, she is acting like she is 18.

The altitude in La Paz makes a lot of people lightheaded and sick. Jon did give Oleg some coca leaves to chew. When I was stationed at the Embassy in Quito, Ecuador, where the altitude is similar to La Paz, we had to be super careful of drinking or eating anything laced with coca leaves as it would cause us not to pass a drug test. The leaves are used to steep teas to help with the altitude sickness. It takes about a month to get used to the altitude. When I returned to the US, it was like a weight was lifted off my chest to breath!

Looks like Charlie is the male version of the vicious Manuela in the second season. At least she was after revenge for her sister’s death. I think she was the third DEA agent Teresa might have been accused of killing even though she died in the car accident caused by the drunk/high Patty. So glad Paloma got away. I hope her son is hiding somewhere. Thanks again dondi365!

reina3

Thanks for the kind words and great comments everyone.

I guess you can’t avoid kidnappings in a narconovela, but I agree with the crowd, please don’t kidnap Sofia again. Unfortunately, little Ray is in Charlie’s hands. “Zero human feelings” is a good descriptor, novelera.

ITA, Oleg’s new knife is impressive, and it will be used soon enough.

I looked up Isabella Sierra. She’s 17 years old IRL. I think you’re right, VVS, Sofia must be more like 14 years old. She looks and acts much older than that.

Many thanks, novelera and VVS, for sharing your firsthand experiences in high altitudes. Very interesting about the coca, VVS. There must be some legal treatment/meds to take if you become very sick.

I will never swear that my recaps are 100% correct. So about the money: at the beginning I thought that shady guy was delivering a truckload of cash to Epifanio as part of some deal they made. At the end, I thought Delio was packing money into the diplomatic case to take to Bolivia for Pablo’s use. Please, I always welcome any corrections. We’re confused enough at the moment, and I don’t want to add to it.

reina3

Two quick comments:

Re Sofia's age, I think VVS is right. At the airport, Sofia told the official that she was 14 and Italian, and Italy allows its citizens to travel without anyone else's permission when they are 14.

Also, I agree with dondi356 about the likelihood of Teresa and Pablo getting to know each other "very well."

if I got this right, the creator of Destan, Bozdağ, wasn't comfortable with where season one was going and so canceled season 2, but, they did one more episode of season 1 to wrap up the story,

"Destan", Episode 28 Series Finale, that was released in September.

Thanks, Dondi. I haven't watched the epi yet, but your super recap will be by my side when I do.

OT Destan

I heard similar, deb. Bozdağ had several scripts and wasn't happy with any so he decided to wrap it up with one lousy episode. Don't know about you, but I found the ending very unsatifying.
