It's a little after the fact, but I do VERY VERY much appreciate the hard work of Diana, Andy, and O.S. I would also give a shout out in advance to SpanProf and her usual quality over quantity post. All of you and your sophisticated palates really color my world with respect to Mexicana.
Muchas gracias
Notes from the couch . . . and what an episode it was!
JULIA
-Rodolfo filled in for Julia when Danny had a prior fight at school. He decided the incident would remain between him and his grandson. He was trying to take some stress off of Julia so he never gave her the communication from the teacher. After complaining to him about not telling her, Julia ends up apologizing. He apologizes, too.
-Julia questions Danny about seeing his father. Now, Danny is not too sure about who he saw. It looked like his father but he doesn't know if it was him.
-Aunt Chepita tells Julia she has the money from the tanda. She will put it in the bank with the other money they have collected so Julia has it to give to Flavia.
-Julia spends the whole episode texting back and forth with "sin filtros". She tells him she thinks he is Misael. "sin filtros" gives her no answers just more questions.
-Julia texts Angel telling him that Danny thought he saw Misael. She wants to meet so they can talk about it. Angel texts back saying he is very busy and he doubts that Danny saw his father. He thinks that Misael is probably far away by now.
ANGEL
-Angel and Braulio talk about the dire state of finances at the company. The loan from Santino will cover the payroll for a month but then they have to repay that loan and also the loan from Zac.
-Zac is waiting for Angel and Braulio when they come into the office. He wants his money and doesn't want to hear any excuses or about any negotiations. He only wants his money or 70% of the trucks. He warns them that if he doesn't get his money in a timely manner he won't be as friendly as he is now. He has another plan they will not like.
-Ana Sofí comes to visit Angel and takes him out for the day. She apologizes for her nursing home comment about his father. They go to see a goofy movie and end up at his place. She wants to help him out and lighten his load. She admits that she talked to her father again and he is interested in being Angels's partner at the Funes company.
JERO
-Jero has no luck in keeping his job. He will be paid for the work he did.
-Ebe tells Jero that he only made things worse for him. Now, the professor has assigned him extra work.
-Jero goes to Lerna's to pick up a box for Ester. While he is there, he criticizes Lerna's parenting skills. Ebe was up so late that he overslept and missed his exam while she has let Adair run wild and not even go to prep school. She doesn't get why he is accusing her of this now. He admits that he was just fired for arguing with Ebe's professor.
-Jero runs into Flavia and finds out she is looking for a cook for her food truck. He says he did plenty cooking when he was in the USA. She is not interested. She is looking for a professional cook. He drops Ester's box. The lid comes partially off and she sees a photo of Ester's family in the box. Jero tries to close the box quickly.
ESTER
-At work, Ester asks Braulio if they have found out anything about Misael. He is incredibly rude and says no but even if they had they wouldn't tell an EMPLOYEE anything. She reminds him that Misael was driving the truck that he son died in. He apologizes but closes down any other concerns she has about the financial state of the company. He tells her to get back to work.
-On her way back home, Ester pauses to try to find her phone in her purse. She doesn't see that she is being followed and some guy grabs her purse with Iván's laptop in it . His accomplice whisks him away on a motorcycle.
-Ester remembers the previous secretary showing her where the financial records were located on the computer. Later, she tells Jero that there is no record of this loan that the Funes company took from this guy Zac. Jero concludes it must be something crooked to be off the books. She thinks there is some connection between the loan and Iván and the accident.
CELESTE
-Rayo is helping Celeste clean around the house. Celeste has plans to take Rayo out to a restaurant to celebrate her quince. She also wants her to buy a nice dress for herself. Rayo is happy with the clothes she has. She isn't into dresses. Celeste reminisces about how she liked to dress up and in colors like purple and red when she was single. Celeste starts to explain about Braulio but Rayo cuts her off. She cannot believe that Celeste would allow Braulio to decide what clothing she wears.
-Celeste tries to calm Rayo's fear about Braulio not wanting to adopt her. Unfortunately, Rayo is right when it comes to Braulio. He tells Celeste that there is no way he can agree to adopt Rayo. They cannot afford it with a new baby on the way and her treatment for her illness. Rayo appears and he tells her that they will not be adopting her. Celeste offers to get a job. Braulio says that will just add to her stress. As they argue, Celeste collapses. Rayo tries to help but Braulio tells her to stay back.
-Celeste ends up at the doctor who says this is the kind of complication they unfortunately were expecting. He says she needs to be on medication but that will put her baby at great risk. Braulio says he is making that decision. Celeste comes first. He tells the doctor to give her the medication she needs immediately and CELESTE SAYS NOTHIING!!! (How would she allow him to make her medical decisions for her??? Is she crazy??)
RAYO
-Rayo meets with Teo outside. Mati is watching as she tries to flirt with him. He wonders what is going on with her as she asks if he has ever kissed a girl. He says yes. She says she never kissed a boy and kisses him good and hard. Flavia , of course, sees them and pulls his head back by his hair. Flavia tells Rayo to stay away from her son and she takes him home.
-Rayo thinks she is back in with Mati but Mati says NO. She needs to do the COMPLETE challenge for that to happen.
-Teo lets his mother have it. He tells her that he has been helping Rayo ever since Cuca left. Yes, he lied to her and doesn't understand why she is like she is. She says it is for his own good. He says no, she is doing it because she feels like doing it. He is sick of having to be the "best" so she can feel good. She sends him to his room.
JERO and ESTER
-Flavia is like a dog with a bone ever since she saw the contents of the box that Jero was carrying. She visits his apartment twice the next morning and ends up finding that Ester indeed is living there as she suspected. She tells Jero that his lease does not permit him to sublet the property so he and Ester will have to leave. Jero says that Flavia is wrong. He is not subletting the property. Ester is there because he asked her to come live with him. He grabs Ester's hand and declares that they are a couple. Flavia looks like she is ready to choke.
THE REST
-Chepita has arranged to send money to her internet novio so he can come to Mexico. He can pay her back when he gets there.
-Armando asks Mirna out so the can get to know each other better.
Please feel free to add anything I left out.
We return to Memo and Isa practicing her play and flying around the living room. Both father and daughter are clearly having a blast, Falso looks anything but pleased to be viewing this delightful scene.
Leo and Amparo are having a cheerful breakfast with a grumpy Macario who doesn’t share their enthusiasm about how well the night before went. Leo shares all about how much he likes Chuchita but he declares it’s pointless because he doesn’t have a chance. He stops short of admit the object of his affection is enchanted by his brother. They discuss Macario’s jealousy of Eugenio and Amparo is just pleased that it means Macario still loves her… okay
Aaron comes in to chat with Falso but his mood is so foul as he spouts off about Memo in his house that Aaron drops the files he was holding and quickly flees the room.
Eugenio comes to see Amparo and she hopes nothing is wrong and he isn’t unhappy with the last evening, but he assures her he has come for another reason – He declares she is the best cook ever and she should publish her own cookbook! Amparo loves the idea and is excited that Eugenio believes she could do such a thing. Eugenio offers to pay all the expenses to get the book made. Amparo questions his intentions but he assures her that he is doing it because he thinks she is talented and he doesn’t have any other intentions. His warm look as he says goodbye belies his words.
Macario is at the races gambling again and this time he wins! He is super excited until the bookie takes the money he owes him out of his earnings leaving him with little (HAHA) . He decides he must bet what he has left on the next race to recoup – he loses.
Memo and Isa continue to play and Chuchita comments on how good he is with kids and wonders if he wants kids of his own, he does. Isa wonders if he would want a boy or a girl and Memo says he’d be happy with either but if he had a little girl he’d want her to be just like Isa. Chuchita asks if it’s true Memo is going to get married and he confirms it is.
Lupita is visiting Sebastian…. he tries to get cuddly; she only wants to be friends because she wants to focus on school. He isn’t very discouraged. They walk and flirt and nothing happens because Gaby and Juanpa interrupt as Sebas is still trying. The sisters go off to the bathroom and Sebas tells his friend he has a plan, Lupita is his mission and he is going to win her over but he needs Juanpa’s help. Juanpa rather skeptically asks what his plan is…
Falso goes to approach Karen after work but she already has plans – with Aaron. Falso looks pissed, Darcy doesn’t care.
The girls come back from the bathroom and Sebas launches his grand idea, let’s go to the beach!! Gaby wants to go of course, Lupita wants to go home and study. Juanpa is mostly silent and Sebas gives the hard sell. Gaby convinces her sister to go.
Isa is getting ready for bed and she was worried about something but I didn’t catch it. Dani assures her and kisses her sweetly sending her to bed. ** If you caught this please add, it had something to do with the bathroom???
The girls butter Amparo up to get permission to go to the beach but Macario interrupts – why do they always ask mom and not him? They point out he always says to do whatever mom says. Dad starts to give his permission but Amparo interrupts and says she’ll handle it, Macario says ‘of course dear’ LOL Amparo gives the girls permission but tells them to be careful, be responsible and watch out for each other. Grandpa strolls over and adds that if their mom is trusting them, they need to heed her words and behave otherwise he will be very disappointed in them. They promise they won’t let them down.
Dani and Falso are out to dinner and I’m surprised he is taking her to dinner until Dani comments Karen is there – with Aaron. What a coincidence? NOT!!! Dani is surprised too, and wants to know what Falso’s motive is for actually taking her out to dinner. He wonders if he has to have a reason to take his wife to dinner and of course he doesn’t HAVE to, but viewerville is betting he does have one anyway. He tries to play the loving husband, Dani voices her concerns for Isa again. They get cuddly and Falso kisses Dani while checking to make sure a jealous Karen is watching.
Ursa is making nice with Memo over a candle light dinner.
Dinner went well I guess because Dani and Falso are getting friendly in the bedroom when they suddenly hear mariachi music?? It’s Leo and he’s there with a karaoke machine to serenade Chuchita!!! Dani thinks it’s sweet, Isa loves it; Falso calls the cops!! Who show up and arrest Leo. All the ladies beg Falso to call the cops off but the heartless jackass is unmoved. As he is dragged away Leo keeps yelling out that he loves Chuchita – dude you’ve known her for seven minutes, chill.
Memo picks Leo up at the police station – apparently Dani called him and told him what happened. Memo says Leo is an idiot. Leo says he’s in love – Darcy thinks Memo is correct.
Next morning, Dani and Karen are having breakfast and of course she shares with her bestie that things were about to get hot and heavy until the serenade ruined the mood. Dani thinks things are getting better and Falso is going to spend more time with the family because he loves her! Karen declares that’s a lie and she knows it!!! She says a bunch of obscure stuff and then backtracks claiming she must be against the whole world because she can’t find love herself. Dani assures Karen she is wonderful and her prince will come, Dani is wrong. Karen thought bubbles that she doesn’t want a prince, she just wants Falso…. a toad.
Falso meets with Memo and tells him off for his behavior with Isa, He is fired!!! He tries to give him a severance check but Memo says Dani hired him and only she can fire him. Falso says you don’t know who you are talking to and Memo says he definitely does – an arrogant jackass who pretends to be a loving husband but is really betraying his wife with her best friend! That’s right Memo saw everything and he lets Falso know that Isa was about to see too. Falso doesn’t care (what a shock) he dismisses Memo because he doesn’t have proof! Oh, but he does!!! That’s right folks, he got the pic (Good call eagle-eyed Diana)!
Macario is enjoying tasting Amparo’s cooking and having a nice convo with the wife until he learns she’s planning recipes for the cookbook Eugenio wants to help her publish. Then he throws a jealous fit instead.
Falso tries to buy Memo off and Memo wastes his time trying to explain to Falso what it is to be an honest honorable man which is entirely lost on pond scum of course. Memo agrees to stay silent for now but if Falso makes Dani cry again he’s spilling the beans! Falso tries to threaten Memo’s family and Memo warns him not to mess with his family.
Amparo is serving tables when the girls come in excited for their trip to the beach. She forgot they were going today and she gives them her blessing before they rush off – forgetting someone’s wallet? Amparo rushes after her girls but misses them in the parking lot. She hurries to her car and follows them with the wallet but grumpy Macario still has Eugenio on the mind and he decides it’s time Eugenio got to know who he is messing with.
Ursa is back in Ceasar’s hotel room and snooping while he showers. She finds a mask and flashes back to an armed robbery they once pulled together. Cesar comes out of the shower and finds her looking at the mask. He encourages her to rejoin him. Is he still pulling robberies? Yep, and she should too. She says no way, she left that life behind, but did she? Her look says she’s not so sure… Cesar keeps trying to convince her and I didn’t follow everything they said but I think the big sale was the idea that Ursa could earn the money she needs to pay Cesar to divorce her by pulling robberies. (Please correct if this is wrong)
Dani is still with Karen, poor Dani! They are in a spa in a hot tub. Dani wants to talk about Karen falling in love, Karen wants to prod about Dani feeling something for Memo. Dani denies it once again.
Isa is having a piano lesson, Memo is watching her. Chuchita shows up and pulls him away a little. They talk briefly about his fight with Falso and how Leo’s idiotic serenade actually won points with Chuchita! Memo gives his attention to the conversation for as long as he can but then he turns away to gaze adoringly at his daughter again. (Again this doesn’t seem creepy if you know he’s her father but to the causal observer with no knowledge of that – major STRANGER DANGER vibes!!)
I thought Amparo was following Gaby and Lupita to the beach but she went to the place Gaby had told her she worked instead?? This makes no sense since she should expect Gaby to be at the beach; but anyway she asks for Gaby and learns there is no such person working there. Busted!!! Gaby is lying again and now she’s going to hear from Amparo!! (Please add to/correct this if you can. This little scene made little sense to me.)
Macario bursts into Eugenio’s office, gets right up in his face and warns him he’s tired of him trying to play nice with HIS woman! Is Eugenio scared? Or amused? Or about to call security? I couldn’t tell but we’ll find out tomorrow.
Jarifa, thank you for your intriguing, thoughtful and insightful recap. You capture the essence of the characters, good and bad, masterfully.
Braulio’s cold, piercing blue eyes can wither with a mere glance. I was also shocked, and disappointed Celeste was silent when Braulio made the determination she would take the medication endangering her child. I echo your “(How would she allow him to make her medical decisions for her??? Is she crazy??)” Unfathomable. Further, there is no mistaking he wants nothing to do with Rayo. What on earth was Celeste thinking to keep pushing the adoption? His iciness to Ester was inexcusable.
“Flavia is like a dog with a bone ever since she saw the contents of the box that Jero was carrying” was a perfect descriptor. Flavia has an overwhelming compunction to know everything and to always be right. She has no empathy and seems hell bent to be rid of Ester at any cost.
“Julia questions Danny about seeing his father. Now, Danny is not too sure about who he saw. It looked like his father but he doesn't know if it was him” has me confused as well. I’m likely in the minority as I’ve thought for some time Misael is dead. Angel seems to be aware he is cornered without options. He is choosing to step away from Julia.
So many of the storylines are developing fissures, threatening to turn into fractures.
Poor Teo who has done so much for Rayo, is betrayed by her Judas kiss, wanting “back in” with Mati, who is so not worthy. In the process he is humiliated by Flavia. How well he noted he is tired of her constant demands for perfection. Jero commits an almost unpardonable offense with Ebe’s teacher, getting fired and hurting his son in the process. His slow, steady burn definitely requires anger management.
I wonder what tomorrow will bring!! This was fantastic Jarifa.
Diana
Darcy, as always, I had to pare down my list of favorites from your fabulous recap!
“Falso goes to approach Karen after work but she already has plans – with Aaron. Falso looks pissed, Darcy doesn’t care” was my favorite and had me laughing out loud!
I was relieved (and pleased) that Memo did get Fausto’s illicit kissing of Karen on video. And while I’m glad he showed him the proof, Fausto does not seem the type to be cowed by seeing the evidence in the flesh (so to speak). I fear there will be some type of repercussion.
Memo loves Isa so much! I can’t get enough of him soaking up her every moment with fatherly love, affection and pride.
Cesar and Ursula clearly have chemistry and a love for thievery and life on the edge. Their game is dangerous, and I doubt their luck will hold out for too much longer.
“They discuss Macario’s jealousy of Eugenio and Amparo is just pleased that it means Macario still loves her… okay.” Amparo is such a smart, resourceful, strong and successful woman and mother. She excels at everything except her misguided support of her louse of a husband.
Dani, also in denial, continues in vain to try and reconnect with her husband who could care less about her. All the while she feeds her frenemy Karen every feeling, misgiving and pain she is experiencing. An utter betrayal of trust.
“Amparo questions his intentions but he assures her that he is doing it because he thinks she is talented and he doesn’t have any other intentions. His warm look as he says goodbye belies his words”. Unlike Amparo, Eugenio sees Macario clearly and has no intention of backing down.
I am enjoying young couples’ burgeoning relationships as well. The hour flies so quickly!
Darcy, this was fantastic. Thank you!
Diana
Wow! This patio has been on fire tonight! I loved all the thoughts and comments, and even two extra recaps from Jan and O.S.
Diana, "I think Zulema is gone for good. But I’m not sure about Erika. Will we ever see her again?"
This is something that upsets me with a lot of fiction, not enough wrap up. Movies may not have enough time to do a great job of it, but telenovelas do, and yet they waste that time on silly stuff.
A well-written and acted telenovela introduces us to characters who after a period of time become somewhat real to us, that's what keeps us coming back. Then everything wraps up quickly in the final episode, leaving at least some of us wondering and wanting.
I certainly hope we see Zulema again, possibly even with René. René has been a good guy/bad guy throughout this novela's run. But René is now well and truly chastened, he has essentially lost everything. I could see redemption for him as a possibility.
But Zulema? Diana, you have said several times that when it comes to pairing up couples in the novela, it's not what we want that counts, but what they want.
I think we have all wondered if Zulema might have had brain damage of some sort to keep putting up with René, but he is at rock bottom now. Perhaps he would deserve to just be abandoned by everybody, or just maybe Zulema might claim him.
I could see that if he decides to be a good person and also to treat Zulema as she should be treated. But I am someone who always wants happy endings, and it's not up to me, as you say, it's up to them (and the writers, of course :)
We are probably all fans of Erika. Did she meet someone at the airport in New Zealand as SpanProf speculated? Well, why not? To be true to the tone, the ethos, of this novela, we should see her happy with someone, even if it's not Tyler, because she did want someone.
In fact, I demand it! Otherwise I might just change my opinion of the novela. There! That should put the fear of god into the production team and make them pull some HEAs out of a hat if need be.
Jan! I am very impressed at how well your recaps have come along. In my opinion they have improved quite a bit with time and practice. I hope you will stick with it with other telenovelas that interest you; you have definitely gotten the hang of it now.
O.S., it is a shame that you didn't join us earlier because you contribute so much to the discussion. You pick out bits of Spanish dialog that the rest of us miss, and details of the technical aspects of filming these shows. Ah, well, better late than never.
As to what the people in this patio will watch next, I don't know if there is an answer.
Diana is a glutton for punishment :-)
She watches novelas in the afternoon and the evening and writes recaps for them too!
She definitely deserves a medal, but I hope it's not a Purple Heart.
If you decide to watch something else and comment or recap I will definitely read your posts to see if the novela would interest me.
I have gotten picky in recent times. I don't want to watch more than one novela at a time, and I prefer "nice" novelas, such as this one. Some of the current prime time novelas are too rough for me, although they do have some nice eye candy of the female kind. If Univision would offer a special edition with just the ladies strutting their stuff, I would watch, but otherwise all the other nonsense, from violence to beard scratching, is just off-putting. YMMV.
SpanProf must be busy lately, I hope she rejoins us soon. We should all be together for moral support and to check that everyone's seat belt is fastened, and beanies at the ready, as we come in for touchdown.
Two more episodes. Sniff!

The Monster hates me! and ate my post again. I thought I was in the clear because I usually wait a brief time and then refresh the page to see if Monster has eaten my comment.
Nope, it was there! I even have proof! I am so suspicious of Monster these days that I took a screen shot at 1:15 AM, and my comment of
"Friday, December 2, 2022 at 1:12:00 AM EST" was there!
Not now! I think Monster is a sexist woman and unfairly deletes my (very mild) comments when they don't coincide with her puritanical views.
Or maybe not. Who can say? Maybe she just doesn't have a sense of humor. Or maybe she's simply a harsh critic.
I won't send an email at this hour.
:-)
Andy
Diana, thanks. This novela is full of surprises. I loved “Poor Teo . . . Is betrayed by her Judas kiss.” You always have such a way with words. Teo did himself proud telling his mother the truth. I was cheering him on. Will Max ever get more actively involved with his son when he is not traveling for business? I can only shudder thinking what Mati is expecting of Rayo. Flavia is so irrationally vindictive that I wonder how she is going to respond to being bested by the “new” couple. Celeste needs to wake up from her “Stepford” existence. I cannot wait until tonight!!!
Thanks, Jarifa, for another great recap via notes from the couch.
I can’t figure out what Celeste sees in Braulio. I wonder if there is a back story as to why he has all the say in the marriage. And Rayo notices it but she is letting Mati dictate to her. I have a feeling she is going to require Rayo to go much further than a kiss, just from the conversation she had a few days ago.
I hate to be right about some things but I expected the laptop to be stolen and I’m sure Braulio is behind it. So he is either working with Santino or is working on his own to destroy the business, or take it over.
Aunt Chepita is going to send that man money! I felt good about her dating app adventures and was pleased when the man turned down her offer of money. But he’s now saying he’ll borrow it. Hope she doesn’t use the money Julia is going to pay Flavia with!
Armando and Mirna have been pretty yawn worthy. Maybe the date will pick things up!
We got to see Flavia’s face when Jero dropped his bombshell! I didn’t think it would come so soon! Can’t wait for how she handles it tonight.
Liz
Good Morning Amigos and Amigas!! For anyone who may be interested in or thinking about checking out Corazon Guerrero starting on December 6, I’ve compiled a little introduction information to give us an idea of what the show is about. This will be replacing Mexicana in the afternoon slot and I hope some of you will join me in watching and discussing all the twists and turns that are sure to come!
Synopsis:
As Octavio Sanchez lay dying, he implores as son Jesus to always remember the name Augusto Montalvo. Jesus was Octavio’s oldest son and though he was still a young boy himself he was being handed the mantle and responsibility of taking care of his family. It is unclear whether Augusto directly caused his death or if Octavio is simply dying from a stress-induced heart attack but what is clear is that he is angry, desperate, and out of time; Octavio unfairly demands Jesus promise to find Augusto and make sure he pays for what he has done!
Reeling from the tragic death of his father, Jesus is subsequently dealt another blow as he is immediately separated from his brothers Damian and Samuel. As each boy is given up for adoption to different families. Twenty years later, Jesus has managed to locate his brothers and he is putting into motion a plan to reunite his family and fulfill the vow he made to his father to bring down Augusto Montalvo! Initially his plan is simply to infiltrate Augusto’s world and gain his trust to learn what truly happened all those years ago and look for the proof he needs. But after meeting Augusto’s beautiful daughters and Jesus quickly shifts gears and enlists his brothers in a plot to seduce the girls in order to get revenge on the father!!
Why is seduction for revenge a suitable punishment for the potential murder of their father and ruination of their family??? I don’t know and I rather doubt these brothers do either – but let’s all tune in and find out!!!
Meet the Characters:
Jesus Guerreo (Gonzalo Garcia Vivanco) is our galan and the eldest once Sanchez now-Guerreo brothers. He is a good man but his anger, grief and hatred for Augusto over the death of his father has been festering for two decades. He is determined to honor his vow to his father no matter what it costs him. Soon after reuniting his brothers and returning to the same town (and same mechanic shop) their father once owned, Jesus will meet and immediately fall head over heels for his childhood sweetheart, Mariluz Garcia. He must try to fight his strong attraction to her though because in order to avenge his father, Jesus must court the affections of one Carlota Ruiz instead.
Mariluz Garcia (Alejandra Espinoza) is a beautiful, humble, hard-working woman who grew up with her mother and her grandmother. These three ladies have good hearts and a home full of love. Mariluz has never met her father and indeed doesn’t have any idea who her father is since that is one secret her mother has always guarded very closely (although it is a secret quickly shared with viewerville). Mariluz doesn’t recognize Jesus as the boy from her childhood when she first meets him, because of the change of last name, but she is still irresistibly drawn to him. She is put off however; by his apparent connection to Carlota! Mariluz is just getting out of a relationship with one lying cheater, and the last thing she needs is another!!
Carlota Ruiz Montalvo (Altair Jarabo) is the eldest daughter of Augusto. She is spoiled and vain, with a history of emotional instability linked to an early childhood trauma. She is beautiful but also deeply insecure and jealous of her sisters, especially Domenica. Carlota is quickly enamored with Jesus and is determined to win his love at any cost! Sweet as pie when you are on her good side, however; it is quite evident that her bad side may be a dangerous place to be!
Damian Guerrero (Rodrigo Guirao), is the middle child and more than a little bit rough around the edges. In and out of trouble his whole life we meet Damian on the day he is released from jail after serving a stint for stealing cars. Though not a bad guy per se, he definitely has a couple chips on his shoulder and the attitude that goes with it. Damian has trust issues and isn’t as sure as Jesus that they can all just morph into one happy family after all these years. Damian is doesn’t have Jesus’ same burning desire for revenge but he isn’t opposed to the plan either; and as a plus it is lust at first sight when he sees Domenica Ruiz so it doesn’t take much to convince him to get closer Domenica……. for revenge you know…
Domenica Ruiz (Oka Giner) is Augusto’s middle daughter. She’s beautiful and sophisticated and maybe a little jaded. Though definitely a product of privilege, Domencia does not appear to have the same vanity or sense of entitlement as Carlota. When we meet her, she has just returned home from an extended absence and is not at the best moment in her life. There was a deportation? Or a run-in with the authorities? It’s not immediately clear, but we do know Domenica isn’t exactly comfortable in her skin returning home to a sister who hates her, a mother who suffocates her, and a father who she is afraid to come clean with. Domenica does enjoy a warm relationship with her younger sister Emma and she develops an immediate – though platonic – affection for Samuel Guerreo who she sees as sweet though maybe a little slow? Domenica also has a strong reaction to meeting Damian Guerrero though it’s more animosity than affection; but there might be just the slightest hint of flirtatious interest behind that annoyed glare! Domenica also has a boyfriend? Or Ex-boyfriend? Or is he, her fiancé? This is messy and we like messy around here!!!
Samuel Guerrero (Christian de la Campa) is the youngest Guerrero brother and he was a very small child when his father died. A child was ‘adopted’ into slavery!!! Treated as nothing more than free labor his whole life, Samuel grew up doing back breaking farm labor for a man who treated him as if he was just another animal on the land. From his very first interactions with his brothers, it seems clear Samuel was never educated or socialized and was probably rarely spoken to. While he is more than once mistaken for slow at first meeting, Samuel isn’t lacking any of his faculties, he is simply extremely shy and unsure of how to behave and interact in a world he was never exposed to. Samuel is a sweet and incredibly innocent soul; despite the horrific way he was raised. He doesn’t seem to have even an ounce of rancor towards anyone – not even the man who enslaved him – however he feels a fierce loyalty to the brothers who saved him and for that he agrees to go along with the revenge plan - though his role is more one of silent acquiesce than active participation. Still, Samuel hopes no one gets hurt, especially not Domenica, because Domenica is Buena! Of this, Samuel is very sure.
Emma Ruiz (Karena Flores) is the youngest of Augusto’s daughters, and she is young. She is a dancer and budding influencer with a fun optimistic personality. She is a little spoiled and definitely sheltered from her upbringing but she has a good heart. Emma isn’t interest in dating the good-looking popular rich guy who her friends have been encouraging her to hook up with and instead finds herself drawn to Adrian, a dancer from another dance squad and a less affluent neighborhood.
Augusto Ruiz Montalvo (Diego Olivera) our villain, is the father of Carlota, Domenica and Emma. He is a cold and calculating business man who benefitted greatly from the death of the boy’s father. We don’t know yet exactly how he was involved but he’s very nervous about the appearance of the ‘Guerrero’ brothers and he is determined to make sure his secrets are not revealed. He is married to the vain and vapid Victoriana, whom he married for money and position; but he has never quite forgotten Guadalupe Garcia whom he had a relationship with prior to meeting and marrying Victoriana, it appears he cared deeply for Guadalupe but was still willing to sacrifice that affection to his ambition.
Other notable characters:
Adrian (Sian Chiong) is the cousin of the Guerrero brothers. He is a young man who grew up in a group home after the death of his mother when he was young. After feeling alone most of his live, Adrian is thrilled to learn of his cousins’ existence and eager to be a part of the family. That eagerness has him wanting to help in their plot for revenge even though Jesus doesn’t want to get his young, innocent cousin mixed up in their mess. Adrian has a genuine attraction to Emma but he’s also willing to leverage that attraction to help out his family.
Victoriana Penalver (Sabine Moussier) is Augusto’s wife and Domenica and Emma’s mother. She is everything you expect the trophy wife to be and a little too interested in her husband’s nephew, Federico. A hyper critical and selfish woman who dotes on Domenica ‘the perfecta’ and is openly critical and even hostile toward Carlota – who is her step daughter – and Emma, who she despises because she didn’t want to have a second child and because Emma had the nerve to be born ‘sick’ with Type 1 diabetes!!
Guadalupe Garcia (Natalia Esperon) is Mariluz’s mother. She has raised Mariluz alone and doesn’t appear to be interested in romance. Although she once believed herself in love with Augusto the rose-colored glasses have long sense been removed. She knows he’s an unscrupulous man and she doesn’t want him anywhere near her family, especially not Mariluz.
Conchita Garcia (Ana Martin) is Mariluz’s grandmother. She is a sweet lady who was once an employee of the Montalvo household and the former nanny of Augusto. Her affection for the boy she helped raise blinds her to Augusto’s true nature.
Thanks Darcy, for the great, detailed recap. I liked how you put Darcy’s feelings on the conversations. I will admit that when I read the first one, Darcy doesn’t care, my first thought was I need to go over the list of characters, because I don’t remember who Darcy is! I do wonder how Fausto knew where they were. Does he have tracking on one of their phones?
Dani is so blind to both Karen and Fausto’s true character. And Memo has a video to prove exactly who they are. But I hope he made a copy, and wish he had let Fausto think he just saw and had no proof. Now I feel like his life is in danger. Maybe Aaron will decide he’s not going to kill for Fausto anymore. He should be pretty mad at him now, unless that’s how he’s always treated.
So when Macario is at the racetrack Amparo thinks he’s at work. Does he have a job. I think Eugenio will somehow expose Macario for his true self. Because I think he’s going to figure out what Marcario is really like.
I also did not understand why Amparo would go to Gaby’s place of work with the purse. She’s on her way to the beach so that made no sense. Except for letting mom know that Gaby lied about the job!
Fausto was so in the wrong when Leo was singing to Chuchita. It was a cute scene
Liz
Darcy, Wow! Those are your "notes?" I call that a full blown recap! Excellent along with all the sides that ITA with, thank you!!
When putting Isa to bed, Isa was worried that she would forget her lines; so dai assured her that she would help her before going to school.
Regarding Cesar and Ursula--when Cesar proposed his grand idea to steal Dani's vehicle, Ursula was all for it since she wants to get back at Dani...and she knows someone who will quickly tear the vehicle apart and sell the parts.
I was a bit confused about Amparo going to Gaby's (alleged, since Gaby has always LIED about working) work place, so I went back and reviewed my recording. Before going to the beach, Gaby assured Amparo that she had already gotten permission to take the afternoon off, but she was going in to work a couple of hours before the guys picked them at at her workplace. And yes, Gaby did forget her wallet; and that is why Amparo showed up to ask for Gaby. Since Amparo asked Gaby to write down her BF's address, my bet is that the next place Amparo will go to is JuanPa's house--expect FIREWORKS!!
Eagle-eye Diana is so accurate! I was afraid Memo hadn't had enough time to make the video; I'm SO gald I was wrong! And Darcy I am so with you in being amazed that someone did such an intelligent thing in a TN! LOL
Mac the Rat is another jacka$$. Jealousy does not befit him; I think he just doesn't want Amparo to be better than he is--which is quite easy for Amparo!
Liz and Diana. I too fear for Memo now tha Falso knows abot the video. Falso has already ordered two killings (that we know of); I don't think he would hesitate to order a third.
Thank you ladies for your comments and insight! And thank you Chick for adding the clarity to the scenes I missed. Yes, I consider them notes because it's everything I can type of while I'm watching live and I end up missing details - like Cesar wants to steal Dani's car! LOL because I am too busy typing.....lol When I consider my recapping I watch live and re-watch, and pause, and rewind so that I am sure I am catching it all. But I suppose there is probably room to condense in the true concept of 'notes' :) Semantics.
Liz I agree the scene with Leo was cute but it felt so weird to me....I mean if they had known each other for months or had been dating or whatever that's one thing, but I met this chick like yesterday AND she told me she likes my brother so I'm going to go to her boss's house and serenade her and declare my love??? It's goofy. But goofy is entertaining!
Andy, I so enjoy your thoughtful, careful analysis of our beloved and not so beloved characters, evidenced by this golden nugget on Erika: "To be true to the tone, the ethos, of this novela, we should see her happy with someone, even if it's not Tyler, because she did want someone". Excellent.
I honestly have no idea what will happen in the last two episodes. While I also enjoy happily ever afters, I do hesitatingly say that I do not expect that to be the case for Rene. I still have a nagging not so confident feeling about Andrea and Tyler. But my track record proves I'm likely wrong on both accounts :)
Andy, you are always so kind. I am fully invested in Vencer being singlehandedly recapped by the amazing Jarifa. Camino is also a must and I plan on continuing to put up notes once a week. I hadn't planned to watch anything in the afternoon after this ends, but I see Darcy has written a write up on Guerrero which I know will sorely tempt me.
I expect Mexicana's episode today to fly today. I'll catch what I can and look to you and SpanProf, Jan and O.S. to add your always marvelous comments!!
You've made this all so much fun Andy. Thank you....
Diana
Darcy, thank you so much for the character list! I wasn't too attracted to this TN, but the plight of the brother's revenge is a magnet...and as I mentioned before, "Samuel" whom you described perfectly intrigued me.
I just have a couple of things to add--Jesus's real name is Lisardo. His father, Octavio (Big Ed Yanez), worked as a foreman at Augusto's ranch where the Sanchez/Guerrero also lived. Jesus bought the garage since it was directly in front of Augusto's house.
"Flavia is so irrationally vindictive that I wonder how she is going to respond to being bested by the “new” couple". Me too Jarifa!!
"I can’t figure out what Celeste sees in Braulio:. I can't either Liz! He has a bit of a smarmy charm when you first see him but I think it would get old fast, especially as he shows his true self, cold and detached, quite frequently!
I can't wait to see how Jero and Ester's relationship develops!
Diana
Darcy, your level of detailing is beyond impressive.
"Regarding Cesar and Ursula--when Cesar proposed his grand idea to steal Dani's vehicle, Ursula was all for it since she wants to get back at Dani...and she knows someone who will quickly tear the vehicle apart and sell the parts". I never got any of that Rgv Chick, thank you! To be honest, I dozed off a bit during the episode but watched it again later on a high def channel and didn't catch it there either!! Sigh.
Amparo taking the purse back to Gaby's "alleged" workplace did make not a lick of sense. I agree it was just a plot contrivance to move this forward.
Liz, fingers crossed Memo is wise enough to realize that he's waved the red flag and that he is ready for retaliation from Fausto!
Diana
Darcy, I look forward to reading your precap when I return this afternoon. I knonw it will be excellent!
Diana
Memotelling Fausto he had proof and telling exactly where he had it was just plain stupid in myopinion. Is it supposed to be an honourable thing in this case?Doesn't Memo think that Daniela would be far more hurt if she learnt he knew the truth and didn't tell her. I guess you could say he didn't want to upset her but I bet if this was happening to him, he'd want to be told. Memo can talk and puff his chest as much as he likes but Fausto is a rich man with contacts. No amount of love can protect you from dishonest and dangerous people. It is very strange to me that Memo prefers Daniela live with a man who doesn't love her. How is this supposed to make her happy? Does this guy honestly think Fausto will just pretend to be a good husband for the rest of his life?
Amparo's love for her husband is baffling to me. Yesterday I watched a talk show where women who lived with what would most probably be described as un vividor (is there an English term for a man who lives off what his wife earns). Most of those women didn't even say they loved those men. But Amparo does. I'm curious why I don't hear of men ending up in this position except in cases where a woman specifically is looking for a guy who'd pay for all her needs and wants. Men seem to have a way higher bar.
That Celeste's comment about Braulio not liking the way she used to dress was just soo strange. Why did she immediately change her style just because he didn't like it? Wasn't there a scene where he criticises her dress in a flashback? But I can't understand it. Celeste must have self-esteem issues for her to act like this. I doubt he'd have convinced any woman that he knew better, be it her clothes or her health. What a creep. And the interesting thing is that he doesn't like anyone. His kindness is just a way to get something from people. He also wants to isolate Celeste. She'd need a friend who wouldn't care one bit whether Celeste's husband likes her or not and whom he couldn't intimidate. Julia and Ester are nice but their comments to her made me think this wasn't such a great friendship.
Rayo manages to pick the wrong camp over and over.If only she and Celeste could move far away into a house where someone could help Celeste when she got sick. Poor Teo. I'd be angry if I found out I got in trouble just because of Rayo's kiss the boy or I won't be your toxic friend challenge.
Jarifa, thank you so much for all the details. I am especially grateful because I wasn't able to watch Vencer or Camino last night.
Even thought I couldn't watch the show, I have a vivid image of Braulio's cold, lizard gaze in my mind . He always looks sneaky and conniving . Surely he is mixed up in this mystery. Why else would he give Ester the stink eye every time he sees her .
The lines are clearly drawn between the good and the bad with the bad winning at every turn at this point .
I think Jero and Esther are going to be good for each other . Flavia is going to be very angry that they tricked her so cleverly. I also think Lenar is going to be jealous his that Jero is living with a beautiful woman. Ha.
Angel looks like a trapped animal .
Darcy, I wasnt able to watch last night , so I was very grateful director recap.
Memo was wise to record Fausto and Karen kissing but foolish to reveal that he had done it to Fausto.
Looks like Karen is using the always lurking Aaron to try to make Faust jealous, but I doubt that will work. Fausto is coldhearted and only capable of loving one person...himself.
Leo is in love with love...and his hat.
Liz, you were so right about the laptop being stolen and are probably right about Braulio being involved. I finally included the Chepina plot because, the same as you,I am fearing that Julia’s money to pay her debt could end up in a scam artist’s pocket instead via Chepina.
waterlily, I think you have described Braulio perfectly. It is bad enough that he seems to dictate Celeste’s clothes but to dictate her health decisions??? She needs to think more even about what Rayo has said and grow a backbone fast. Her passivity in the face of being victimized could destroy her.
Susanlynn, “Angel looks like a trapped animal” He sure did last night especiall ; first being confronted by Zac with his not so veiled threats and then realizing that his only way to keep his company intact is to have to do a deal with the devil Santino. I feel sorry for him.
I missed a good episode .I am sorry I missed Teo standing up to his mother , and Jero thinking quickly and telling Flavia that he and Esther are a couple . Ha.I wish I could have seen Flavia's reaction to those 2_scenes .Maybe she will go home and smash a couple of those bells. Will Jero get the job as cook for the food truck? Seems unlikely now because Flavia will be ticked that Esther didn't disappear .
I wish Rayo had stayed away from Mati. She has made a lot of bad decisions. Braulio wants her gone so that he is completely in control of Celeste. te
Oh no, Teo is being catfished and will lose The money.
Everyone's luck is going from bad to worse.
The mysteries continue. Is Miceal dead or alive? Who has Margarita's cellphone ? What is on Ivan's tablet ?
Just got home, running late. So happy to see your comment SpanProf!
Your observations were excellent and reasoning on point. I think we are all in agreement it is not yet Andrea's "time".
"I was surprised they didn't show the "family that lives in the area" finding the badly wounded Andrea. Could a scene have been cut?" I wouldn't doubt it SpanProf. That was an important scene and I am doubtful that it was skipped, leaving it to our imaginations. Inquiring minds want to know.
Better get ready for showtime!! :)
Diana
Darcy, thank you for the introduction. Wpw, there are a lot of characters . I only recognize a few names...Big Ed Yanez, Sabine , and Ana Martin .
Another tale of revenge and the wicked rich folks versus the good folks.
What time is it on? I will give it a try if I can.
Thank you Rgv Chick as always for adding additional details!! I don't know why I thought the shop was previously owned by Octavio, but the proximity reason makes a lot of sense. I also forgot about Jesus's full name change, and I so appreciate you!!! As we are discovering to be the case in Camino, I agree with you completely! I started watching because I really like several people in the cast, without that element the attraction to the TN wouldn't have been there for me either. But the more I watched the more I liked it for exactly the reasons you mention. I also really like the feel of community that they capture from the very beginning. A lot of shows feel disjointed at first - because you are actually are meeting a bunch of strangers - and then build to harmony; with Guerrero it felt more like you were being dropped into the warm embrace of an established community from the very first day.
Susanlynn, it will be in the 3-4pm slot - if you're in eastern time zone. 2pm central where I am at. I hope you are able to join us! :)
As Andrea hovers in the realm between life and death, she cries to her mother, begging for her help. The vision of her mother smiles, whispers that she loves her and vanishes into the mist as Andrea screams, reaching out. The flesh and blood Andrea is in crisis. The doctor employs defibrillator paddles several times and finally, the monitor shows signs of life. A fully gowned Katya leans over her mother, in tears, gently stroking her face, kissing her forehead. I love you very much mami she manages. She sits and puts her head on a comatose Andrea.
Rene, dressed in black from head to toe, is at the police station to turn himself in. Tyler visits to tell him Andrea is still alive. He tells him Detective Larios is on the case. Rene says Andrea is the love of his life. Tyler asks if he was Gonzalo’s accomplice in the helicopter debacle.
Katya asks Vilyeri how Brandon is. In tears, Vilyeri says that Brandon broke up with her because of his father. Helena and Rocio tell Brandon Andrea is alive. Rodrigo makes an announcement to the finca residents, something about money which I didn’t understand. Everyone including Chabela look quite happy. Jaime says Dona Maty doesn’t need the money but she disagrees! Katya comes out and hugs Rodrigo. He says something about going to the US. She loves him but her world is here she asserts and gently says “I’m sorry” as she kisses him. Andrea of course is the reason. Rodrigo looks crestfallen as they fall into each other’s arms, Katya weeping heartbrokenly.
Rodrigo laments the crimes of his father with Helena and Rocio. Archi arrives and Rocio smiles although she gives him a stern look. A rap group comes in and Brandon in particular is getting jiggy with it. Archi and Rocio slow dance and he dips her for a kiss as Helena smiles and covers her eyes. So cute!
And across town, Rocio can’t wait to talk to Sebastian, and she barges into his room without knocking. To her great surprise, she finds Sebastian and Diego curled up in bed! She is shocked and keeps saying “no” as she backs out of the room.
Brandon is making strides in his rehabilitation – swimming and walking. Vileryi shows up and he tells her he’s not interested. She tells him to sit. He won’t meet her gaze as she gently strokes his face. He starts crying as she says what his father did is not important. They finally kiss as a thrilled Rocio and Archi peek around the corner.
Rocio flashes back, remembering the oh so many obvious clues that she missed. We see her with Ignacio and Paulina as she spills the beans they already know have sprouted. She expresses her indignation.
Diana
We next see pale Andrea, walking carefully and gingerly with Tyler. Dulce, the nurse bids her a warm welcome and takes her leave. Tyler rounds the corner and sees the lovely woman he had previously met who called him by his father’s name. She stares off into the distance as Tyler walks closer. “It is impossible” he stutters, staring as Andrea lovingly strokes her shoulder. Who are you, she asks? Your son, he murmurs gently as he puts his arm on her and sits, stroking her face. She smiles beatifically. Tyler’s eyes are pooling with tears as he asks for a hug. She touches his face and says “hijo?” Yes, he smiles, tears now streaming down his face as he kisses her hand.
Tyler escorts an obviously hurting Andrea home and everyone is happy to see her. Next, he brings in his newly acquired parent, saying I would like to introduce Rose, my biological mother. Rosa’s veneer of lucidity slips as she talks about her precious baby. “Where is my baby” she asks worriedly. Everyone stares kindly. Dona Maty moves forward and takes her hand and welcomes her warmly. “Do you like the house?” she asks sweetly. Yes, it is muy bonita. Who are you Rose ventures? My name is Brunhilda but please call me Maty. We are going to be the best of friends. “Amigas” Rosa answers dreamily. Andrea and Katya kiss, greatly affected by this very touching scene.
Flowers arrive from Helena, Brandon, and Rocio. Katya cuddles up with her mother and after some sweet small talk tells her that Gonzalo was behind the crash. On a happier note, she relates Tyler is so happy with his mother!!
Rodrigo tells Tyler Katya will not go with him to the US because of Andrea…
Lolita rolls her suitcase in and confronts Diego. You are a bad influence on Sebastian she scolds as she gives him a tongue lashing. He holds his temper and leaves without saying anything revelatory or that he will later regret. When Sebastian arrives, initially she is all sweetness and light until she says that she has banished Diego. He starts to defend Diego which is met with angry stares and recriminations. “Why” she screams? Then finally, the truth is “out there” - because Diego is my partner.
Lovely Melody is with a sober and actually loving Sofia. She shows her mother photos that earn her a huge hug. Augustin and Mario go outside to talk. I’m trying desperately to understand, but I’m not. He gives Mario a card, proposes something which does not have Mario smiling. Would someone please fill this in?
Lolita stares and then admits to Sebastian that she walked in on he and Diego. She tells him he is mentally ill, needing help. I’m not sick he retorts hotly and in torment, my love is just different. He puts his hands on his mother’s shoulders and says no, he will not give him up. Diego is my life companion. She doesn’t want to accept the truth. It is reality he says, I love Diego. She will not respect his decision and after he leaves the room, she sits and takes her raging anger out on the coffee table, reigning blows of frustration…
Another episode in which every scene was pivotal. I never expected the quick time jump from an almost comatose Andrea to her being well enough to return to the finca or the mother and child reunion. There was just too much action and dialog to capture it all, especially with my lack of language skills. Please fill in where you can. I look forward to everyone’s comments, we have so much to discuss! Thankfully, we have the weekend to so do.
Diana
All thanks to Rgv Chick for finding and posting my Part 2 that disappeared as soon as I posted it! It was bound to happen but am so grateful Rgv Chick was able to resurrect it so quickly!!
Diana
Thanks, Jarifa.
Yay! Jero comes to the rescue with his "we're partners" lie and Flavia is speechless. Best ever scene.
Celeste - I don't know what she'd been through before she met Braulio, but it must've been pretty bad for her to think nothing of him dictating what clothes she wears.
Diana, thank you yet again for another wonderful recap. You have already cleared up a few things for me, at least. It may take all of us to unpack what they squeezed into this episode.
It never occurred to me before to look, but today I found that my remote has a FFWD>> button, but no SloMotion button. I could have used it.
I think I may be able to offer a few clarifications, and I know that I have questions :-)
Only today I noticed that it was Itatí Cantoral who played both Andrea and her mother. And I will say again, for all her talent, Itatí is a lousy crier.
I was wondering just what crime René turned himself in for, but Srta CC tells me he said to Tyler that he was dealing in contraband and selling stolen cars. Shame, René!
I honestly don't know what I would do with without Srta CC! Just now, looking at Tyler's conversation with René I see that the extremely despondent René tells Tyler not to get him a lawyer, as he would be as well off in prison. Maybe he could study law there, and help those genuinely innocent gain their freedom. Is this really René?
Rodrigo tells The Family that Tyler wants them all to continue staying at the finca and that they would continue receiving their salaries.
Now wealthy but still innocent Jaime says doña Maty doesn't need the money. She is upset with that idea, she earned that money with the sweat of her brow!
I just love doña Maty! And wise man Jaime went along with whatever she wanted.
When Tyler brought home his bio mother and he introduced her to The Family, Maty looked a bit conflicted. I think she was concerned that she would no longer be Tyler's mami. She introduced herself as Brumilda, but said people called her "Maty".
Then she said they were going to be great friends. I think so.
Yep, Tyler has two mamis!
Everybody there was quite moved, and it really was strong emotional stuff!
More later, I need to get some tissues :-)
Andy
Good evening SpanProf! Another eloquent and informative posting. You make everything crystal clear...I so appreciate your answering my questions! Your observations are always savvy and informative.
And yes, you nailed Andrea's "spirit mom" (love that) telling her that her work here on earth wasn't done!
I had wrongly thought Rene turned himself in for the arson! I knew he wasn't in on the crashing of the helicopter (although he did consider it). His legal background is a shocker as is his desire to actually help others!
So the residents will enjoy a check on Tyler (and each other) for a but longer. Very good!
Augustin has done a 360 of which I'm glad. I knew he mentioned Gladys and the baby but couldn't connect the dots. With a better position, Mario will be in better financial shape to take care of everyone. Sofia seems on the right track of which I am glad...
Diana
Andy, "Yep, Tyler has two mamis!" was perfect.
Also, "When Tyler brought home his bio mother and he introduced her to The Family, Maty looked a bit conflicted. I think she was concerned that she would no longer be Tyler's mami. She introduced herself as Brumilda, but said people called her "Maty". Oh my, you nailed that! I did indeed notice Maty's appraising stare but I did breathe a sigh of relief the moment she spoke.
On Rene "Maybe he could study law there, and help those genuinely innocent gain their freedom. Is this really René?" had me smiling. You and SpanProf clarified this important (and head scratching) moment and I thank you both.
"for all her talent, Itatí is a lousy crier" had me smiling. Yes, they saved a bit on the suicide scene as well as today's "purgatory" scene by having Itati play both parts! :)
One hour left, still plenty of love, angst and anger to sort out. Oh, and yes, where in the world IS Gonzalo???
Diana
West Coast Edition
Part 1 of 2
This is only a partial recap.
We open the episode with Andrea's Mama talking to her from the other side. "Your time is not up."
Meanwhile back in Andrea's hospital room, the staff fight to keep her from flatlining...and they save Andrea. Andrea is going to be okay!
Katya, Rod, and Tyler are at the hospital dressed in smocks. Andrea's eyes are still closed, but she is alive.
Tyler visits Rene in jail. Tyler says to Rene who is behind bars: "Cual es el delito?" What crime are they accusing you of ? They are having a conversation about something. Are they accusing Rene of the sabotage of the helicopter?
At the finca, "All will receive su sueldo (salary)" Then Chabela announces to everyone that Andrea is alive, she is ecstatic and so is everyone else.
There's a knock at Helena's door. It's Archie followed by a musical entourage. They come in, and Archie sweeps Rocio off of her feet. Brandon in his red beanie rocks out to the song. All applaud.
In an intimate moment, Katya says to Rod " te amo." Rod says to Katya "el mismo"
End of Part One. Sorry, I'm a slow typist.
West Coast Edition
Part 2 of 2
A week later, Lolita enters Sebastian's apartment and is shocked to find Seb and Diego asleep in Seb's bed. Lolita flashes back on seeing Diego in his underpants at Seb's place. She is putting things together, but is still in denial that her Seb is to blame...
Viyeri comforts Brandon at his Physical Therapy. She is committed to him for "siempre." They kiss.
And that's your partial recap. This writer is saturated with all that is happening and unable to further summarize.
Hope you are enjoying the show - - so many commercials today. We are a captive audience - - at least those who do not have a DVR
Adios for now.
Jan, thank you for your West Coast Edition which was great.
I didn't know what "el mismo" meant so looked it up.
Ahhh, I also didn't get Vilyeri told Brandon "she is committed to him for "siempre".
Excellent!
This has been some ride hasn't it? And the roller coaster hasn't stopped yet.
Diana
Thank you once again, Diana, SpanProf, and Andy for coloring my palette with respect to Mexicana. Yes Diana, this is a roller coaster ride.
Mac storms in to Eugenio's building, grabs him by the collar and tells Eugenio that he is fed up with Eugenio making himself out to be the good guy with his wife. Mac demands that Eugenio stop putting wild ideas into Amparo's head because then no one can put up with her. When Mac grabs Eugenio and warns him that he doesn't want to see him at HIS restaurant, the receptionist calls for security, but Eugenio orders her to put the phone down and, as he pulls Mac's arm off himself, Eugenio hisses to Mac that they should talk in a civilized manner! When Eugenio declares that he doesn't tolerate violence, Mc retorts that he doesn't like that he is after his wife! Eugenio assures Mac that he is not after his wife; all he is doing is helping her publish a book, but Mac doesn't believe him. Mac tells him to look deep into his eyes because this is the last time he will tell Eugenio to stay away from HIS Amparo. After Eugenio nods, Mac leaves.
The young folks are at Sebas's house. Lupita is still having doubts about going to the beach, but Gaby tells her to chill. As they are about to leave, Amparo arrives and orders Gaby home. Gaby asks why, so Amparo tells her tha she knows she has been lying all this time about having a job... but what hurts Amparo most is that everything she taught Gaby has not been taken seriously.
At the motel, Cesar is gloating about the scare he will give Dani. Ursula had no plans of going, but Cesar convinces her to go...only because Ursula is looking forward to seeing Dani's face when they assault her...Dani deserves it!
Amparo continues to scold Gaby. She then turns to Lupita and chides her for covering up for her sister. Before leaving, JuanPa assures Amparo that hey had no idea Gaby was lying to the family. Amparo is glad JuanPa now knows what Gaby is like. Outside, Gaby cries that JuanPa is the best novia she has had and she said horrible things about her. When Gaby asks if Amparo doesn't care that she might lose her boyfriend Amparo retorts that the one who messed up was her! Amparo then turns to Lupita and stars to scold her, so Gaby defends Lupita and tells her mom that she forced Lupita to keep quiet. Gaby then wonders what Amparo will do to her; so Amparo tells her that she will have her waiting tables and working in the kitchen all day long
THE ASSAULT goes down! Cesar is banging on Dani's window demanding that she open the door when SuperMemo comes to save the day. He knocks Cesar down and is on top of him punching him and trying to take off his ski mask as Dani watches with mouth agape...and Ursula is on the motorcycle with helmet on.
Sebas is upset that his plan didn't work and the girls will probably be punished for life! JuanPa on the other hand, is quiet and feeling out of sorts.
Ursula gets off the motorcycle and hits Memo with her gun! As Memo lays on the ground groaning, Ursula and Cesar make their escape. Once gone, Dani rushes to Memo asking if he is okay. He assures her he is and asks how she is.
Amparo gives Gaby an apron and demands that she put it on. Gaby pleads for some other punishment; and when she finally puts on the apron, Juanpa arrives wanting to talk to Gaby.
Diana, thanks again for getting us started with the discussion of this crucial episode. SpanProf and Jan, thanks to you as well, each mentioned things I didn't really appreciate when I watched and offered some interesting wrinkles.
SpanProf, I originally said that René thought he might study law in prison, but you sent me back to the video tape, er, to Srta CC, to check the dialog. He did say "retomar" which indicates he had some connection with a career in law in the past. A crook involved with the Law? How could this be???
Actually "back when" I got to know some very good and also very nice lawyers. And if you want some good lawyer jokes you should ask a lawyer, they have thousands of them.
But do be very careful to ask in an absolutely, positively social setting; take pictures and get witnesses if possible, or you might be billed at an outrageous hourly rate.
If you ever see a lawyer look at one of his watches, run!
Quite aside from that, it shows the value of actually understanding all the Spanish. Some of us manage fairly well with a limited understanding, sometimes supplemented by Srta CC, but understanding it in the first place would be great.
Jan, thank you for your updates as well, and the vocabulary. Vocabulary certainly comes in handy. And I think your writing skills have become more polished with practice.
I very much appreciate everyone's contribution to our understanding, especially Diana's. Her Spanish might not be really great but she carefully watches and writes about everything.
The rest of us just help with cleaning it up a bit, though with everyone's contributions I think we cover the episodes quite completely.
I look forward to O.S.'s thoughts, though O.S. seems to have a late schedule or a somewhat distant time zone.
I hope to see and say more tomorrow, and I will try to not be grumpy cat, but I think we were "treated" to some slicing and dicing or bad editing today :-(
And I have a few random thoughts about some of the characters.
And we have pending business on Monday: Erika, Zulema, Megan, Gonzalo; also how, at least I think, Gonzalo got a raw deal... in a sense.
Gotta run!
Andy
Cesar and Ursula arrive at the motel. Cesar curses Memo and wonders what he was doing there. After Ursula tells him that Memo works with Dani, Cesar growls that Memo will pay back for every strike he gave him. When Ursula tells him that he'd better stay away from Memo and that the one they need to go after is Dani, Cesar wonders why she hates Dani so much...is she jealous? (YESSS!!!) Well, Cesar has a brain and figures that Ursula was just using him to get rid of Dani. After Ursula reminds him that she helped him escape, Cesar knows that she only did it so Memo wouldn't see his face since Memo thinks he is her cousin. Cesar grabs Ursula in a hammerlock and threatens that she will have to pay for what he has done. He is looking forward to seeing Memo's face when he tells Memo that she was the one on the motorcycle and that is was she who hit him with the gun to help him escape.
At the restaurant, Gaby tries to explain that she is not like anyone in her family....she doesn't think that she should follow in her family's or Lupita's footsteps. When JuanPa wonders what she wants to do, Gaby replies that Lupita and even he know exactly what they want to be and are following their dreams, but she doesn't know what she wants to do in life...the only thing she knows is that she doesn't want to lose him. JuanPa assures her that he also wants to be her boyfriend, but it's very important that she figure out what she wants to do. (What a guy!! not just a gentle man, but so patient and understanding!) He adds that from now on they need to trust each other and not hide anything. After Gaby promises that she will do as he says, JuanPa tells her she needs to start by getting in good graces with her mother and show her that she can be responsible...she can start by going inside to work in the restaurant.
Dani is now inside with Falso sitting by her and feigning concern and telling her to rest and assuring her that he won't let anything bad happen to her. Dani wants to take Memo to the hospital but Falso tells her that the will take care of it. Falso again insists that she needs to rest...she can't go to work when she can't even think straight. Memo then comes in to tell them that he has already talked to the cops but they still have to go file a report. Dani again offers to take Memo to the hospital, but Falso assures her that Memo is fine and probably wants to go to his family. Memo leaves only when Dani tells him to go home. After Memo leaves, Dani asks Chuchita not to mention anything that happened to Isa.
At the restaurant, Gaby promises not to lie again and pleads that she be given another punishment because hse is no good as a waitress. Amparo ignores her pleas. Mac then approaches and Amparo wants to talk about the book, but Mac already took care of it. He tells her how he went to tell Eugenio not to get close to her again!
Karen is now with Dani and Falso commenting how Memo turned out to be the hero, but Falso hisses that they should stop talking about that! After Dani leaves, Falso tells Karen that Memo knows about them.
Leo chides Memo for not getting his injuries checked. When he asks if the husband was not there to defend his boss, Memo tells him he was there, but he didn't even hear anything...and he doesn't care at all about his wife. Leo then wonders if Memo is falling for his boss, but Memo denies...then proceeds to tell Leo that Falso is cheating on his wife with her best friend.
Isa shares that she did very well in her play...she remembered all the English words and got a 10! Isa then asks if she can teach Memo all she knows in English.
Falso tells Karen that Memo threatened him with showing the video to Dani if Memo saw Dani crying again and if Falso didn't give up his idea about buying the land and stay away from his family. Memo doesn't want money...but they need to get rid of the evidence Memo has. when he asks Karen if she has any ideas, Karen basically tells him that it's HIS problem!! Falso assures her that if he loses everything, he is not going to run to be with her...he will dump her!
Back with Leo and Memo, Leo warns Memo that he needs to be on his toes because Falso will not stay with arms crossed. Memo knows that Falso is probably thinking of a way to make trouble for him...he knows what Falso is capable of and he will do everything he can to defend Dani and his daughter.
Eugenio is missing his wife, Camila, when Amparo arrives!
Memo calls Dani to ask how she is. Dani assures him that she is calmer, but she can't stop thinking about the bad experience...and he saved her life! They say their good byes looking forward to seeing each other the next day.
Eugenio thinks that Amparo is there to talk about how his son is being a bad influence on her daughter, but Amparo assures him that her daughter is old enough to make her decisions. When Eugenio asks her advice about what to do with his son, Amparo tells him to send Sebas to work at her restaurant and she will straighten him out. Eugenio then assumes that Amparo is there to talk about her husband. When Amparo apologizes for what Mac did, Eugenio tells her that if he were her husband, he would defend her just like Mac does. He quickly tells her not to be offended, he was thinking of his wife. Eugenio also assures her that Mac did nothing to him...and his offer about the book still stands.
Ursula asks Memo about the bruises and chides him for defending that woman. Memo assures her he would defend any woman. When Memo tells her how the other person attacked him from the back, Ursula discreetly asks if he recognized the assailants. Nope, if Memo had recognized them he would have turned then in. Ursula then slobbers him with kisses and will be there all night to take care of him.
Notes from the couch . . there was no dozing during this episode! The episode really was all about Flavia.
FLAVIA
In the flashback, we see Ester with flowers from Max. She is happy even though Flavia tells her that men only send flowers when they are out messing around. Ester says Max is different. Flavia admits she is envious of Ester's marriage but it is a "good" kind of envy. Ester never knew that "good" envy existed. Flavia thinks her marriage is exemplary and hope to find her "Max" someday.
Narrator:" We can all have negative feelings towards the people in our lives sometimes but none can do as much damage as the bitter poison of envy."
Flavia is ubiquitous in this episode lurking and skulking everywhere and anywhere is the search of more info on everyone.
-Flavia doesn't take it very well when she finds out that Ester and Jero are living together considering that they just met. She accuses them of moving a little fast to be together so soon., Ester reminds her that they owe her no explanation and escorts her to the door. Just as Flavia is going to make another comment. Jero closes there door in her face and he and Ester have a good laugh. Jero says he was going to suggest telling Flavia that they were living together but he never had time. As for gossip, they agree that people can talk about them as much as they want.
-Flavia tells Max all about Ester and Jero. He says she sounds like she is envious. She scoffs at that idea.
- Flavia goes calling at Celeste's only to find Rayo with Mati and her crew (Mati and her crew have crashed at Celeste's. Mati didn't give Rayo much of a choice. They are messy guests and Rayo is running around cleaning up crumbs.) Flavia criticizes Rayo for having these juvenile deficients over at Celeste's house. She is sure they are drinking. Mati says they are not doing that. Flavia asks about Celeste. Rayo tells her that she is in the hospital. She is upset that nobody told her.
-Jero wants to clarify things about Ester with Flavia. She says she knows how men are. When a woman throws herself at them, what guy would turn her down? It looks like Jero has to take a moment to control his temper. She tells him to be careful around Ester. Surprise, she also has changed her mind and wants to hire him for her food truck. He will think about it.
-Flavia zips over to the hospital and talks to Brauliio all about Ester. She also tells him about Rayo and the wild party she was having at his place with the juvenile delinquents. Braulio doens't know how Celeste could have allowed Rayo into their house. Flavia says it is a dangerous situation.
-Flavia flits over to Ariel's and she sees that Julia is there. She makes a point of him hearing that Julia owes her money and it is due tomorrow. Ariel has questions for Julia when she leaves.
-Flavia gets to be Celeste's only visitor besides Brauliio. She tells Celeste that her ex-friends Julia and Ester came to see her but they are just a pair of hypocrites. Celeste is not in the mood hear that. Celeste misses Rayo. Flavia tells her not to think about adopting her because she will only cause her problems. Celeste says she and Brauliio will make that decision. Flavia thinks there has to be another placement for Rayo short of throwing her out on the street.
-Flavia spies on Max as he talks to Ester outside. He asks Ester why she hasn't told him about her boyfriend. Ester says because she doesn't have to. He asks if she has found out something about Iván. She is not interested in talking to him about her son now that he is only a pile of ashes.
-At home, Flavia starts to grill Max about what he was talking to Ester about. He says he felt like he had the right to know if she was going out with somebody. Flavia asks if he feels jealous now that she is with somebody else. She asks if he is planning on getting back with her. Max explodes and tells her to SHUT UP. He throws his cup of coffee on the floor. He then suggests that they take some time for each of them be on their own. Flavia is surprised.
Narrator: "Envy is like a seed. If it takes root and those roots go deep, it can destroy everything in its path."
EVERYTHING ELSE:
CHEPINA (PSA) ends up using the money that was saved to pay Julia's debt with Flavia for a plane ticket for her internet novio from Spain. He promises to pay her 10% interest on the loan for his plane ticket. She transfers the money to him and is excited about him arriving the next day. When she breaks the news to Julia, she goes to show her his profile on Amibuk but it is long gone.
CELESTE has found her voice in the hospital. She will not receive any treatment until she can talk to her neurologist and is sure that the baby will not be hurt. The doctor tells Braulio that it is her choice and not his. She tells Braulio that nothing he says will change her mind. He plays the victim by calling her selfish and never asking him a priority. The neurologist is hopeful about her situation and can give her a medication with will not harm the baby. Braulio looks visibly disappointed at the good news. Celeste is on board with what the neurologist has to offer. The neurologist says she would never lie to her.
HOMERO Is feeling very good until he isn't and becomes disoriented at the doctor's office.
ANA SOFI betrays Angel's trust and talks to her father about Angel's precarious financial situation. Angel meets with Santino. In one scene, we see Zac in his office as he is on the phone. Angel has no other choice but to accept Santino's offer to be his partner. He is happy with most of the agreement but there are some parts isn't. Santino says they are family and they can come to an agreement about anything he is not happy with. That being said there is one condition that is non-negotiable: Angel has to agree to marry Ana Sofí ASAP.
RAYO is still being pressured by Mati. She wants her to finish the challenge before her 15the birthday which is like tomorrow. Rayo is eager to find out how Celeste is when Braulio comes home. He says she is fine. Braulio seems to be in a good mood and tells her not to look at him like he is some kind of monster. He thanks Rayo for cleaning the house. He appreciates her telling him that she had friends over. He tells her that in the future, he doesn't want any strangers in the house when he is not there. He also says that he had her mother's phone traced and it is in USA some place with Misael or whoever stole it.
ESTER talks to a tech guy that Julia recommended. No, she does not have Ivan's phone but she has his Amibuk profile page on her phone. Her son is dead and she wants to know if he was involved in something that might have caused his death. The guy takes a photo of the profile page and says he will see what he can find out. Ester then tells Jero that everyday she has more questions about what happened to Iván. When the tech guy asked for Iván's phone, she realized that she didn't know where it was. It must have gotten lost in the accident. She also wonders why Iván did't call her on his cell during the actual trip. Had Misael threatened him? Why wasn't his backpack with him but in Misael's vehicle?
JERO's relationship with his sons is improving. After hearing about the photo that Lerna saw in the box that he took, Lerna and the boys are wondering if he has something going on with his "landlady" (Ester). Ebe expresses concern for him now that he lost his job. He understands if he can't pay for his tuition due to the fact that he has to support himself. Jero assures him that he will do what he has to to support Ebe's education. Ebe asks where he lives and is anxious to come and visit him there.
Julia is still texting "sin filtros" but isn't getting the answers she needs.
GINA is a finalist in Ana Sofí's contest.
MIRNA is hot and heavy in her pursuit of Armando.
Please feel free to add anything I left out.
Mac asks Amparo where she was. Amparo tells him she went to see Eugenio and she doesn't want any drama. And she is going to bed, so he needs to mop!
While Leo sings, Memo and Dani think about each other and some special moments. They smile at the memories.
The family is having breakfast at the restaurant while Gaby is working. When Homero gives the truck assignments and Memo reminds them that he is working with Dani, Homero wonders how long he will be working there since he is needed there. Memo replies that it will be only a couple of weeks more.
Amparo gives Mac the cold shoulder...because of the book and everything else he has done....he never supports her in anything.
Outside, Memo and Ursula are in a lip lock when Cesar drives up in his motorcycle which Memo comments as being similar to the one the assailants drove. But Cesar growls that it's time they settle things!
Ursula tells Memo not to listen to him as Cesar continues to come at Memo telling him that he knows that Memo is cheating on his cousin...and his cousin has him to defend her! Ursula keeps them apart.
Falso and Karen are jogging when Karen suggests that they call Mac and pay him to get Memo's phone. Falso nixes the idea...he knows who can help them.
Memo chides Ursula telling her that he has assured her many times that there is nothing between him and Dani. Ursula argues that she has seen how Dani looks at him. Memo defends Dani saying that she is a decent woman. As they argue. Cesar is about to go inside the restaurant when Memo stops him and asks where he was the previous day at about 4pm. He tells her that he was Ursula all afternoon. Memo buys all the lies when Ursula assures him that Cesar was with her.
Isa is cheering JuanPa on as he dives. When Dani has to leave to go work, Isa reminds her it's Saturday, so Dani explains that she has to work. When Dani tells Isa that her father is off today, Isa cries that her father is very serious now...she is no longer his princess...maybe he doesn't love her because she is adopted. Dani assures her that both she and her father love her.
Memo chides Ursula for telling her cousin about their problems and her fears. When Ursula argues that she has no one else to talk to, Memo tells her that if there is no trust, their marriage won't work out. Ursula askes him to swear that he is not working with that woman because he likes her. Memo thinks about Isa and assures her that he does not like Dani.
Now at work with Dani, Memo comments that he felt obligated to defend her. Dani is very appreciative of all Memo has done for her and her daughter...and if there is anything she can do for him, she would like to return the favor.
FIN
Rgv Chick, thank you for your wry and witty recap. I am always impressed and delighted at your astute powers of observation. There is nothing that slips past you, seeing as well as feeling everything from the overt to the covert.
“When Ursula tells him that he'd better stay away from Memo and that the one they need to go after is Dani, Cesar wonders why she hates Dani so much...is she jealous? (YESSS!!!)” Exactly Rgv Chick!
“Mac demands that Eugenio stop putting wild ideas into Amparo's head because then no one can put up with her”. He is so dense he does not realize Amparo is a proud woman who has never let him cast any doubt upon herself. She is human and she lets him know when he has gone too far (but isn’t that a daily occurrence?) She reigns with confidence and assurance and has always flourished; despite him.
Eugenio was the model of cool, calm and collected as uncouth, (likely) unwashed Macario threatened him.
One of my favorite scenes was when Amparo said mi amor at the table and Macario thought she meant him, but she smilingly clarified she was speaking to Chema.
“Isa cries that her father is very serious now...she is no longer his princess...maybe he doesn't love her because she is adopted. Dani assures her that both she and her father love her” was hard to hear but harder to watch. Children are so intuitive and sensitive and seeing Isa’s sad, sweet face was heartbreaking.
Galan in waiting JuanPa took it up a notch tonight. “What a guy!! not just a gentle man, but so patient and understanding!” He certainly is. I think he will keep Gaby grounded. And truthful.
Darcy and others have insightfully discussed the absurdity of Karen’s obsession with Fausto and there is little I can add. But after he threatens her that if he loses his “life” (code “meal ticket”) he will break up with her, and still she stays, there is no hope.
I would describe Ursula as “common”. Decades ago, it was a strong word, far less so today. And yet, it fits without denigrating.
I loved dreamy eyed Dani and hopeful Memo thinking of each other, their last thoughts of a very long day.
This was fantastic Rgv Chick. Thank you!
Diana
Does anyone else find it weird the Cesar’s grand plan was to steal Dani’s minivan?? Is that what all the cool kids are stealing these days? Granted I have no idea what a new van is worth and it might be quite a lot but it’s just not the look you expect for a hardened criminal.
Juanpa is indeed quite the prince charming….makes you wonder why he is friends with a guy like Sebas, but I bet Sebas can be a lot of fun and he might have some good qualities we’ve yet to see. Once upon a time I have a friend that my parents hated because she was a bad influence in all of ways Sebas probably is, but she was one of the most loyal friends I had ever had. Always there when you needed her no matter what.
Gaby’s eye shadow has been driving me crazy for days (pink and yellow?? NO!) and tonight Ursa’s was bugging me!! That red spot in the middle of the brown/black looked like she was injured or something….in wasn’t attractive at all!!
I like the take charge and put everyone in their place Amparo!! Let's see more of that and less of her inexplicably believing every lie Macario says.
Isa crying about how her father doesn’t love her anymore and she is no longer his princess because she is adopted so hard to watch!!! That jackass doesn’t deserve that princess for a daughter!! It’s so sad when children are made to feel bad because they are too young to understand the adult is the problem and not them – sadly I have seen this way too many times!
Jarifa, you soared to high heights with your exceptional recap. I appreciated your including the quotes on envy which can turn obsessive and strangulating.
“Flavia is ubiquitous in this episode lurking and skulking everywhere and anywhere is the search of more info on everyone”. There is nothing to add as this is a perfect descriptor. I also enjoyed your noting Flavia “zips over” and “flits over”.
Thankfully Celeste has regained her sense of self and is making her own decisions. Braulio need not approve or agree, he just needs to respect them.
“Homero is feeling very good until he isn't” could not have been better stated. That scene was hard to watch.
While Flavia’s jealousy, obstinance and obsessions certainly fueled Max’s (righteous) anger, I can’t help but feel there was more bubbling beneath the surface. Perhaps a bit of surprise and envy that Ester has finally moved on and started to rebuild her life. When Max asked Ester if she learned something new about Ivan and she replied “she is not interested in talking to him about her son now that he is only a pile of ashes” I was rather horrified as I expect he was. Her hurt is still raw, but Ester clearly needs counseling. Now.
Desperate to be rid of Ester, Flavia plots and plans and yet Ester sticks like glue and with a new man to boot! Love it. All of a sudden, Lerna seems anxious to see where Jero lives. Hmmm.
Julia knew instantly that Chepina was scammed. A hard lesson learned. Now, how will she come up with the money to repay Flavia?
We need to see who is texting Julia…
Not knowing Gina is Julia’s sister, wouldn’t it be rich if Gina wins Ana Sofi’s contest!
Wonderful Jarifa. Thank you!
Diana
Samantha & Serena continue their talk next to the Bright Light. SpanProf called it almost verbatim. Kudos. “Not your time. Never forget I love you. Etc.” Cue “ER” scene. Andrea lives.
I think the biggest takeaway from the Tyler visiting Rene in jail scene echoes what Rene said in the last episode. Andrea was the love of his life, and everything changed when Tyler showed up. He comes clean with his crimes (actual auto operations). He doesn’t want any help or reduced sentence. He confesses to thinking about what Gonzalo actually did (Helicopter Hari Kari), but we all know the true culprit.
Chabela is on Cloud 9: as Andrea lives, Olinka is dead, and their stay at the finca is extended.
ONE MONTH LATER:
Lolita gets an eyeful.
Brandón’s physical therapy continues (foreshadowing his current wardrobe in Mi Fortuna es Mi Camino. This may have been the catalyst for his current contract demands).
Viiyéri confirms her parents are cool with their romance and she doesn’t care what her friends or anyone says. Rocio & Archie cheer the reunited couple on.
Lolita cries and has flashbacks to all the signs that her son may be involved with Diego. She later admits to Nacho & Paulina what she’s witnessed.
Maty makes peace with Andrea. This was a long time coming.
Andrea reveals to Tyler that his actual maternal unit was a charity case wandering aimlessly in the market until Andrea put her in a home. Matilde is his last living relative. When Matilde was in the streets, she suffered extreme poverty and illness.
Vocabulary alert: Now that the truth is all revealed, Doña Maty tells Matilda they will be tocayas - name twins.
Personally, this is only the second time I’ve seen this (phrase) happen in a telenovela. Is this a common trope?
Rod admits to Tyler he was wrong about Andy. He realizes that Andy actually saved his (real) mom’s life. Tyler asks how things are with Kat. When Rod reveals Kat can’t move to EEUU, Tyler says (duh!), “Move here!”
Andrea worries that Tyler may think she was complicit with Gonzalo’s assassination attempt. Rene has confirmed otherwise, and Katya reassures Andrea that Tyler is mad happy his biological mom is at the finca.
Favorite (new) Katy’s line: #MatildaLaVerdadera
Favorite (recurring) Katya line:
4OO.OOO% (on board with something).
It’s atrocious math, but she pulls it off.
The final showdown/reveal with Sebastián/Diego/Lolita has been long
overdue. Yet somehow it just happened in the penultimate episode.
They’ve had plenty of time to wrap everything up and close all loops.
Can’t wait to see what they do with our last episode.
O.S.
Diana, yes, it was a relief that “Celeste regained her sense of self” as you so well noted. I was pleasantly surprised. The situation that I found more than troubling is Flavia’s sudden interest in hiring Jero. It seems that she cannot leave Ester alone and now with a separation in her own marriage, who knows what kind of trouble she can cause? Lerna’s interest in Jero’s new place, as you noted, was also interesting in its own way.
Criticism: It bothered me that they turned normally wise Chepina into somebody so silly who would risk the family savings for her own chance at love. I do not think it played true for the character as we knew her. They could have delivered that PSA or the potential loss of the money in other ways that would have seemed more true.
The quotes were excellent for this Flavia-centric episode.
O.S., a fantastic summary. “I think the biggest takeaway from the Tyler visiting Rene in jail scene echoes what Rene said in the last episode. Andrea was the love of his life, and everything changed when Tyler showed up” summed this up perfectly.
Also, thank you for “Rod admits to Tyler he was wrong about Andy. He realizes that Andy actually saved his (real) mom’s life. Tyler asks how things are with Kat. When Rod reveals Kat can’t move to EEUU, Tyler says (duh!), “Move here!” Excellent!
Andy, you have been the heart and soul of this sometimes joyful sometimes sorrowful ride. You have guided and gathered us together with fairly amazing results. This has truly been a group effort with everyone contributing their own special “gifts”. Between all of us, fragments have been made whole. Voices melding together to make something incredible.
“I hope to see and say more tomorrow, and I will try to not be grumpy cat, but I think we were "treated" to some slicing and dicing or bad editing today :-(“ is exactly right! I look forward to, yet dread Monday. Our little group including SpanProf, Jan and O.S. may splinter but will always be connected by the camaraderie we have shared.
Diana
Jarifa, tbank.you very much for that great recap.
Yay, Flavia got a few pushbacks this episode , and Max went ballistic !yay. What a jealous, malicious busybody. How do you say " None of your business in Spanish? "
Thanks, Jarifa, I loved your notes from the couch. I really miss out on long conversations so appreciate learning what was being said. The quotes on envy were so true. And I didn’t realize Ester had said that about their son to Max. I know she’s having a tough time but Max is suffering too. And wow, I did not realize he mentioned he and Flavia take a break from each other. From the opening I got the idea that Flavia was probably the reason Ester and Max’s marriage ended. Now that I know what he said to Flavia there is another potential ending, Ester could end up with Jero or Max.
Too much Flavia last night. She’s a bitter woman. Poor Celeste having to listen to her, kind of trapped by the hospital bed! I don’t think Jero should work for her but bet he does!
Why was Braulio being nice to Rayo when we all know he was mad about her friends being over, in addition to just being mad that she’s living in his home.
We all knew Chepita was going to lose the money. A foolish thing to do and she was not presented to us as a foolish woman.
Liz
Thank you, Diana and Darcy. Yea, just a bit more that notes but still not what one would call a "full recap". I remember those days when I would write at least 6 pages for a recap...and those arelong gone--too much to do, too little time 😒 Anywho, there was more dialogue than I expected and thus the longer "notes".
Not that I like or condone Cesar, but I'm glad he is so astute about Ursula's jealousy and motives to "be with" him. She is just using him...and she's a BIG hypocrite. She doesn't like the way Dani "looks" at Memo, yet she can jump ON that bed with Cesar at her will. How did Memo ever get involved with this vamp? Oh, I forget; she's Mac's niece and Amparo set her eyes on Mac...maybe it runs in the family?
Diana, regarding Amparo, "She reigns with confidence and assurance and has always flourished; despite him." I LOVE how Amparo disregards Mac and doesn't let him bring her down! Were it not for Mac, she would be doing so much better--financially as well as personally. AND "Darcy and others have insightfully discussed the absurdity of Karen’s obsession with Fausto and there is little I can add. But after he threatens her that if he loses his “life” (code “meal ticket”) he will break up with her, and still she stays, there is no hope." DITTO The woman is an enigma...and a masochist for sure!
I sometimes wonder, "Is JuanPa for real?" I can't remember such a young character being so mature and responsible. Sebas is childish and a bit on the wild side, but he hasn't shown a bad side---the exact opposite of his sister, Karen! Darcy, "Sebas can be a lot of fun and he might have some good qualities we’ve yet to see." ITA!
Darcy, I haven't really noticed Gaby's or Ursula's eye shadow; I'll have to be on the look out for that. Now Ursula's tats are hard to miss...and quite distracting! I stopped trying to count them or figure out what they are!
"Does anyone else find it weird the Cesar’s grand plan was to steal Dani’s minivan??" Raising my hand! When has he seen Dani's minivan? I thought his plan would involve breaking and entering...or maybe even kidnapping!
Thanks, Rgv Chick, that was excellent. I loved how Eugenio was so calm and reasonable with Mac in his face like he was. He may not know he’s interested in Amparo but I think he definitely is!
JuanPa is showing himself to be a really decent young man. I enjoy him and Gaby. Sebastian seems to shallow, I hope he does end up working at the restaurant. Lupita looks so young, I didn’t realize she was in college. But I still feel Sabastian looks too old for her.
Hitting the man you love on the head with a gun does not seem like true love. I hope she and Cesar get caught, they are not nice. I can’t figure out what Memo sees in her. Similar to Amparo with Macario!
So Karen and Fausto even jog together. But she tells Dani how she doesn’t like Fausto and Dani never suspects anything. I hope we don’t have to go to the very end before Dani wakes up to her cheating husband and all his ways.
I was sure when Memo saw the motorcycle he might start suspecting Cesar. But apparently he trusts Ursula so much he was easily convinced.
I feel so sorry for Isabela. So glad she gets love and affection from Memo. Hard to believe Fausto would stop loving his daughter after loving her for 6 years. Unless he never did.
Was proud of Amparo going to Eugenio’s house to apologize about her husband. I’m glad she’s not afraid to go against him.
Liz
If there is interest in starting a patio for Corazon Guerrero, I will reinstate the Daytime pages. Let me know if it will be needed.
Thanks, Liz!
"I feel so sorry for Isabela. So glad she gets love and affection from Memo. Hard to believe Fausto would stop loving his daughter after loving her for 6 years. Unless he never did." I honestly don't think Fausto is capable of loving anyone; he only pretends to love them when it suits him.
Darcy, "I like the take charge and put everyone in their place Amparo!! Let's see more of that and less of her inexplicably believing every lie Macario says". Say it sister! I totally agree.
Gaby's eye shadow was puzzling but Ursula's was just garish. Too much, too many colors and not a good "luke" for anyone.
"Not that I like or condone Cesar, but I'm glad he is so astute about Ursula's jealousy and motives to "be with" him. She is just using him...and she's a BIG hypocrite" is exactly right Rgv Chick! She sharply attacks in a feeble attempt to hide her guilt and wrongdoing. Cesar is no saint but his life might be different if she hadn't embroiled him in stealing,
I like Sebas. Perhaps he has too much of a swagger but underneath he seems good and kind. Are we sure he is Karen's bro?
Diana
"Hitting the man you love on the head with a gun does not seem like true love" made me laugh Liz, and your point is well taken! :)
Diana
"It bothered me that they turned normally wise Chepina into somebody so silly who would risk the family savings for her own chance at love. I do not think it played true for the character as we knew her". Point well taken Jarifa.
Liz, you also thought the same thing noting "A foolish thing to do and she was not presented to us as a foolish woman".
Julia really looked devastated. Flavia isn't the least bit empathetic under the best of circumstances but new trouble in her marriage and having Jero and Ester fool her will surely put her in a more foul mood (if that is even possible!)
Diana
Darcy, I read your excellent precap this morning. Thank you so much for doing this.
You described the characters so, so well and the storyline seems intriguing.
I will watch the first episode and take it from there.
Diana
Rgv Chick, I definitely want to discuss as you may have guessed! lol Diana and Susanlynn have said they may be in and Adriana told me she will be giving it a try. Could we reinstate the page and see if the interest takes off? If not, we can always un-reinstate it...LOL
Thanks, Rgv Chick. Super storytelling, all the ingredients of a "recap." I love "SuperMemo."
The more Ursula tries to make Dani suffer, the more she'll draw Dani and Memo together.
For JuanPa's sake, hopefully Gaby doesn't take after Mac. I wonder about Gaby because she's quick to lie and at first didn't even want JuanPa to announce their noviazgo. What's her deal?
Liz, you said it! "Hitting the man you love on the head with a gun does not seem like true love." It wasn't tearing Ursula apart to hit Memo.
Mac is a mess. He's jealous, but it's never occurred to him to clean up his act.
My thanks to everybody for keeping us up-to-date.
As much as I have loved this novela I am continually amazed at how much I missed in the dialog. For me it has been a real challenge, even with the CC.
If everybody spoke as cool and serene Isis does, I would not have much of a problem, but that's not the case either in speed of speech or in vocabulary either.
Ah, well, still great fun.
We still don't know what happened to Gonzalo, but I expect we will find out Monday. I do think Gonzalo got a bum deal, at least in a sense. It was very silly of Andrea to include him in the crew she assembled to be Tyler's "family", and she did it partly to humiliate him. He did not even immediately recognize Andrea, it had been a long time since he had seen her.
Up to this point he had been a decent guy, though perhaps not exemplary. He was basically OK up until that fateful day when he was leaving the finca and found out from Tyler that Tyler believed everyone was really his family because of a DNA test. Of course, it was all downhill from there for Gonzalo, and that's on him. Whatever.
At least the novela has started wrapping up, because there are so many other threads to trim.
But at least one already done was not especially nice. Sofía's father, Agustín, now wants to make amends for years of blacklisting Mario and making it impossible for him to find decent employment, and denigrating him to Sofía -- by now putting him into an appropriate job with someone he knows. How is Mario supposed to feel about that job, or his last few past years?
Also annoying, I thought, was that Agustín was not too very embarrassed about what he had done. Meh.
I very much hope we see happy faces on Erika and Zulema; Marcia and Luis? A baby for Mario and Gladys, with happy Sofía and Melody, and maybe Killian?
A nice wedding or two would also be great. I wouldn't be much interested in a marriage for Diego and Sebastian, because in gay male weddings usually neither party gets to wear a beautiful wedding dress. And this is what I most enjoy in telenovela weddings, quite seriously. Lesbian weddings can sometimes be twice the fun. Or should be, I don't know if we've had any formal lesbian weddings just yet.
Things like this are the best parts of a long telenovela but seldom get the time they deserve.
Andy
Thanks, Jarifa. Absolutely amazing recap.
Whoa! I never expected Maximo to explode like that, so soon after Teo's explosion. I think Max has been bottling that up for years. Diana, ITA Ester having a new man tipped the scale too.
Jero closes their door in her [Flavia's] face and he and Ester have a good laugh. -- And so did I! ;>
She is not interested in talking to him about her son now that he is only a pile of ashes. -- So hurtful to both of them.
Braulio is worrying. Is he plotting something to turn Celeste off Rayo?
ITA Chepina wouldn't have been as careless to so freely loan the money, especially with Julia in the predicament she's in.
Poor Angel. Trapped.
Before we take our final sip of this refreshing novela I would like to thank Andy for being the Mayor of the Patio and the gluie that kept us all together. Thanks to Diana for her tireless work and reliable recaps. Jan, as a fellow noob, I know how intimidating it is to speak up. Please continue to participate and represent the West Coast with aplomb. SpanProf, thanks for the adult supervision and discerning guidance. If I forgot anyone, it’s not personal. I’m trying to finish this comment before I get r played off the stage.
Since Alcalde Andy started somewhat of a wishlist (babes in wedding dresses), I’d like to continue, if it pleases the court. I hope that Andrea is forgiven and recognized for the good that she’s done (creating the family Tráiler never had and keeping his real mom alive and well). More importantly for Andrea: NO MORE CRYING. My eyes can’t take it.
I would like for Rod to move to Mexico and be the rock that Katya never had. She and Viiyérri would make smashing brides, and I’m sure Rod and Brandón clean up nicely.
This is a soap opera so wouldn’t it be fun if Sebastián #1 showed up and fought Sebastián #2 for Diego’s affections. The production tream has already paid homage
to Bewitched. This would be Darren-palooza.
Ooh. Their fight could take place on that ominous cliff we’ve seen throughout the series.
There’s really nothing left for Rene to do. Once he’s released from jail he should form a Queen cover band and tour Latin America. #readyfreddie Zulema will be too busy with her amor verdadero to attend his shows.
Mario & Gladys will have a healthy little girl and the expanded family will continue shopping at Cloches-R-Us. Melody won’t excel at her new school until (surprise!) Killian rejoins her as his family has relocated.
Dra. Mónica Traven will be ordained online to perform weddings and will officiate those of Maty & Jaime, Rocio & Archie, , Nacho & Paulina, Isis & Boni and Marciuca & Luis (vowel renewals).
New bride Rocio will help Helena & Chabela with their online dating profiles at Mexico’s hottest dating website: Pareja punto com.
FIN
O.S.
Abject apologies to the readers and the Queen’s English.
O.S.
Yikes, both Teo and Max have finally told Flavia off, and she has been fooled by Esther and Jer. Her perfect world is crumbling a bit .This will have consequences because Flavia does not like interference with her plans and will take out her anger in Esther, Rayo, and Julia. Now Celeste needs to see Flavia's true nature and turn on her , too.
So good to read everyone's astute comments and thoughts/wishes on tomorrow's finale.
I am also a huge fan of weddings and hope we see a splendid one for Katya and Rodrigo. A bit more of Tyler and his two mamis would be very nice. Luis and Marcia reconciled; Isis and Boni still happy and Vileri and Brandon continuing to find their way to each other. A happy and successful Helena; Rocio and Archi's blossoming relationship. Mario/Gladys/Sofia figuring out everything for Melody's sake and yes, a bit more of Killian. Chabela doing whatever makes her happy; Sebastian with Diego happily ever after and a new beginning for Ignacio and Paulina.
With apologies to Andy, I do not see Zulema returning. Erika will be off to a new adventure, finding love, hopefully along the way.
Rene in jail...Gonzalo likely dead.
Tyler in the bosom of his family...My crystal ball turns cloudy when I mention Andrea's name...and my heart is telling me we just have to wait until tomorrow.
Diana
Great comments from everybody! O.S., I like the idea of two Sebastiáns fighting it out for good guy Diego. I don't think the outcome would much matter to him, though. He's not especially bright; he has never even noticed that they switched Sebastiáns on him!
Still, a happy happy for him and everybody else. Except for Gonzalo, I suppose. I don't see any way to a happy ending for him.
Diana, I would like to see Zulema again. If not with René, then with someone else.
Whatever. After deducting commercials and credits they have about 40 minutes tomorrow to wrap this up.
Here's hoping for the best!
Andy
Many thanks to Rgv Chick for once again restoring my hijacked comment!
The Monster just hates me, that's the only reason I can think of for why my comments disappear so often.
Perhaps it's my avatar and the Monster is jealous of my outrageously good looks.
Perhaps :-)
Andy
Hello everyone! Just checking in and found Darcy's great summary of the new show. I was only planning to give it a try because she asked me to (kind of owe her that after suffering through Passion de Gavilanes together LOL), but now I see it's a revenge story! Can't say no to that, even if none of the main actors attract me that much. I have a problem sticking with novelas when I don't love the protas, I kind of got lost with Camino because of it, so I hope I can stand by Guerrero and we get to form a nice patio around it.
And if we get a primetime page, it's great! Thanks, Chickie! I'd be open to recapping, too, or writing some conversation starters.
Meh. It did what needed to be done, I guess.
Why do these dummies never ask me how to end a telenovela?
Andy
Happily ever after doesn’t come easy. But for love, it’s always worth the fight – M. Leighton
These fractured fairy tales are near their resolution. We start at the beginning of the end…
Lolita knocks on Sebastian’s door calling him precious. She has a birthday present for him, but he yells at her to go away. My son hates me she murmurs…
Sebastian calls Ignacio asking if he has seen Diego; he tells him and Paulina what happened. All he cares about is Diego right now. We next see Paulina furiously knocking on Sebastian’s bedroom door, asking him to come out. He is reluctant but does so. Lolita is there as well as Ignacio and Luis. He stares but the surprise is not over. Paulina walks over and opens the balcony door. Diego, with a delicious white cake in hand, steps into the apartment. Happy birthday Diego effuses. Sebastian and Diego smile at each other as only two people in love can. Everyone stares – and they hug. Sebastian bestows the most radiant smile on Diego that I’ve ever seen him give.
Mario tearfully tells Gladys the depths of his love. My angel, my love, my life; thank you. I love you; I adore you she says back. They tenderly kiss and hug.
A beautiful backyard soiree is taking place. Ignacio and his father are on the stage. Toasts from Tyler and appreciation and applause for Mexican Gringo. Andrea smiles from the audience. Next, Rodrigo whisks Katya away in a helicopter. They fly with a full silvery moon high in the sky. He proffers a beautiful engagement ring, and they savor the spectacular fireworks from the vantage point of the velvet night skies. Back on terra firma, Katya shares her good news, and everyone is thrilled. Most importantly, we are staying in Mexico!
Zulema visits Rene!!! (Andy, you were so right; I was so wrong). He doesn’t want her to return. He hangs his head, but cannot help but be moved. She puts her hand on the glass, he breathes, closes his eyes in regret and shame but does also put his hand up on his side of the glass. I love you, Rene she utters, and I think she says she will wait for him. He cries as my eyes mist.
Brandon, Rocio, Helena, Katya and Vilyeri exit a restaurant. Across the street we see a figure glad in dirty denim with a grey knit cap pulled over his eyes. Rocio crosses the street and gives him her leftovers. He removes his cap, and we see a hideously scarred one eyed Gonzalo, hugging the food and crying.
Dona Maty and Jaime marry.
Diana
A time jump and we are in a beautiful church with a golden alter. Tyler effuses at how lovely Kata is. Wearing a lovely white gown, a veil covering her head, Tyler accompanies her as she walks the red carpeted aisle to her groom. My sister looks beautiful Brandon remarks to Helena. You are the love of my life Rodrigo murmurs as Katya comes forward. He thanks God, eyes cast to heaven. At the celebration, Tyler and Chabela toast as mariachis play and sing sweetly. Looks like Vilyeri received good news (about her designs perhaps? Please fill in). Dona Maty is seated next to Rose. There are several announcements and I only include the ones I understood. Marcia and Luis are adopting a child! Rocio is going to be a veterinarian! Andrea thanks Tyler and toasts her daughter. Maio kneels and proposes to Gladys, mimicked by Melody. So sweet. Tyler thanks his two mothers and Andrea! He gets too emotional to finish so Andrea kisses him, and the band starts playing. Tyler hugs the happy couple.
We see Andrea and Tyler walking away arm in arm. She looks sad as she looks at him. “Tyler” she begins. She tells him she loves him as she leads him outside as a police car waits. “Thank you, officials,” she says as he puts his hand on her back. Is it true he asks? “Si” as she puts her hand on his face. You are an admirable woman. I love you. They kiss. I love you and with that, she surrenders herself to the police as she is handcuffed. She leaves asking he take care of her daughter. The car drives off in slow motion.
Andrea is in her prison garb, crying in her cell, lamenting everything, especially Katya. We next see her on the food line and then delivering books (to Ana Martin). I gather several years are going by (?) We see her helping a victim who has been knifed. Eventually, she is being released. She signs her papers and walks outside, to freedom! I’m free she declares joyously. Others have their families to greet them, but she stands alone. She smiles and gives thanks regardless. Then we hear “Andrea” and Tyler is there hugging her tightly. He is sporting a light gray beard and smiles adoringly. She kisses his hands and smilingly says “I love you”. They declare their love as FIN flashes.
So much happened, I captured what I could. I think we saw everyone except Erika and Sofia. Please fill in what I missed. I’m especially interested as to whether or not Zulema is indeed going to wait for Rene? What a ride! More later…
Diana
Oh SpanProf, thank you for your kind words and for the so important information you provided!
I so enjoyed everything you provided but especially loved "Rene tells her he isn't worth it. (but then succumbs to her forcefulness of course--a new Zulema)". He is so not worthy but she loves him, so for her sake, I'm happy!
I'm glad Vilyeri will be a success and of course Rocio has always been successful with the kindest, staunchet heart ever!
"
"But most of all, thanks to Andrea's scam, Tyler now truly has a family! I believe she was in prison for 3 years, doing good works" answered my final questions. I readily admit I wasn't at all convinced they would end up together. To be completely honest, I thought Tyler married Erika in the interim. All this time and yet, I still know relatively nothing.
Overall, I thought this was a good ending - thank you for all your marvelous comments.
Andrea (aka Diana) :)
Diana/Andrea, thanks yet again for another excellent recap!
SpanProf answered your questions and a couple of mine as well. Thank you, SpanProf! This is even better than puzzling things out from the Closed Captions :-)
This was a decent concluding episode, but I will admit that I was hoping for better. Of course, one person's "better" is another person's poison.
Certainly everybody looked really great, even Tyler's bio mom and her nurse. Everybody but poor Gonzalo. Yeah, he probably would have been better off in prison.
About René and Zulema, I don't know. It was good of her to visit him, but he could be in the slammer for up to five years, and that's a long time. OK, she loves him, but does he love her? Did he ever?
I did get a kick out of Andrea learning and doing all those jobs in prison. I wonder what she did with the knife or ice pick in that woman prisoner, or maybe she left it for the doc or nurse who was so casually gloving :-)
Why was there no family waiting for her when she got out, other than Tyler? Had they married before she went to prison, or did he just take care of business interests for three plus years and then show up to take her home from the prison?
Picky, picky, picky! It's true, but this novela was so well done most of the time I was hoping for a better ending. Endings are really tough and often fall short. This one did not come up to the level of the main part of the novela, IMHO.
Sometimes novelists are forced to write alternative endings, occasionally telenovelas film alternative endings, I think. This one could have done with a rewrite.
Picky, picky, picky Andy
It looks like a good patio is forming for the first episode tomorrow and I look forward to it! I will write a recap for tomorrow's episode. I will post it in the early evening when I get home from work. If anyone else is thinking about joining us or hasn't decided yet whether or not to join; I hope you'll check out the episode tomorrow and us know what you think! :)
Andy, thanks so much....
Your comment on Zulema: "OK, she loves him, but does he love her? Did he ever?" was an excellent question. Her unwavering devotion still confounds me but love him she does. No, Rene never loved her but I am hopeful that something finally softened and that he does now.
I also smiled at Andrea in the prison O.R. as she moved closer to the huge butcher knife lodged in the patient's chest! Egads, did she get accelerated training? I doubt it. Further, she didn't even have a mask or surgical gown on!
I also wondered if Tyler (or anyone else) visited Andrea in jail? She seemed pleased to see him but not shocked.
I'm wondering what you might have changed in the finale Andy?
Diana
West Coast Edition - final copy
This is only a partial recap
Part 1 of 2
Lolita knocks at Seb's door. He tells her to go away using the usted form. Moments later, Paulina and Nacho have Seb on speaker. Seb says to them: "Diego es mi pareja'" Diego is my partner. They seemed shocked. In the next scene, Luis, Paulina, Nacho, Lolita and Diego have a surprise birthday party for Sebastian. Feliz cumpleanos says Diego with a cake in hand.
Mario decides to accept a new job set up by Agustin. (Did I get this right?) Gladys congratulates him.
At the finca, there is a grand celebration for El Mexican Gringo wine. All present toast with a copa of the wine.
Katya and Rod leave the gala in a helicopter under a full moon. The pilot takes them to the downtown where they find a wedding proposal lit up on a building. Rod proposes to Katya and Katya says si ! Que romantico...
We return to the finca where the happy couple shares the great news with everyone present.
End of Part1
Part 2 of 2
Zulema visits Rene in jail. It is not a place for her, he says. He'll be jailed for five years. She says that she'll wait for him - - the poor fool...Another loose end gets tied up
Rocio feeds an holgazon (homeless person) As she walks away, the camera reveals that it is Gonzalo, badly burned and blind in one eye. She does not know that it is her father, and she gets in the car.
Boni finally appears with Isis at Rod and Katya's wedding. Tyler is the one giving the bride away. And he wishes them well.
And that's my final partial recap. It's been fun and challenging.
Adios for now.
Jan thank you for "holgazon (homeless person)" and all the other vocabulary you provided.
For the life of me, I could not read what was lit up on the building when Katya and Rodrigo took the helicopter ride, so that was a proposal? Very good.
I also thought Mario said seomthing about getting a job so think you are right it was Augustin.
So glad you joined us and hope to hear more from you....
Diana
Diana thank you for your response. So much to absorb all at once. I also use Srta CC, or I would not understand as much as I do. I also stop taking notes after 20 - 30 minutes. Truth be told. I have done all that I can and am at peace with that. I enjoy your keen wit. I would also be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the sizable contributions today of prognosticators Andy and SpanProf. I look forward to seeing what O.S. has to say. This has been a long, rewarding journey, and now it's time to bask in the afterglow.
Jan, yes, there was too much packed into the last hour!
But you did a fantastic job of catching all of the highlights...
A long journey but a happy one!
Diana
Jan, thank you for your final recap for Mexicana! It's been a fun ride, but all things, good and bad, must come to an end.
Diana, the changes. Well, to begin with, both René and Andrea going to jail. How did this happen, really?
Andrea was a naughty, naughty girl and planned to fleece poor, er, rich Tyler. So she lied to him about a lot of things, but was that a crime? She never did steal any money from him.
Was she charged with anything, or did she just go and spill the beans much as René did?
Did Tyler ever denounce her to the police? If so, it was a very silly thing to do. He should have just... No, I won't say. Monster is probably just waiting for me to cross the line.
Suffice it to say, forgive and forget. Pay for lawyers, lots of lawyers if need be. Sheesh! She was already repentant and there was no appreciable money lost. And they had found the loves of their lives, plus "family" for Tyler, and even for Andrea.
Andrea has to be "fortyish" and Tyler perhaps "fiftyish"; what the heck are they throwing away three years for? So Andrea could pick up some new skills in prison?
Meh.
What about Katya? She was in on the scam early on.
René is a tougher case, maybe Malacara implicated him, but still.
Where was everybody when Andrea was released? Busy? The walk would do her good? Well, maybe there's a party waiting for her back at the finca.
The finca, what about the finca? Andrea had a one year lease. Tyler could afford to renew or buy it outright if he wanted.
But surely not everybody is living at the finca three years on. What the heck has Tyler been doing these last three years, even if he did visit Andrea?
Inquiring minds want to know, you know.
This novela was not a whodunit, where well into the last reel the murderer is exposed and all ends satisfactorily. This was a bit more like a melding of telenovela and soap opera, and it should not have come to an end so abruptly and without more details and more HEAs.
At least that's how I feel. Actually I feel slightly aggrieved, much as if I had been dating someone, and all had been going well, and then I got dumped out of a clear blue sky.
But, still, all in all, I have to admit that this was a very good show, show, show.
Andy
"Andrea...lied to him about a lot of things, but was that a crime? She never did steal any money from him. Was she charged with anything, or did she just go and spill the beans much as René did?" It's an excellent question Andy and I have no answers. In yesterday's episode a few of us commented that Tyler seemed rather cold when Andrea's terrible childhood, especially her mother's suicide was revealed. Could Tyler have filed a complaint? From the way he and Andrea were at the wedding, I don't think so. I think Andrea felt she needed to atone and turned herself in. I think it was totally unnecessary, she already paid dearly with getting shot. Only my feeling but I guess we will never know.
"Where was everybody when Andrea was released? Busy? The walk would do her good? Well, maybe there's a party waiting for her back at the finca" is another thoughtful question. I would have liked to see Mario and Glady's baby, Luis and Marcia's adopted child and how everyone was doing, yes, even Sofia.
Perhaps there can never be too much happiness, particulary after all the angst? :)
