[I posted this on TyM #1 because for some reason I didn't see the current page. But now I see that the page has indeed been put up, so I've reposted my very late comment here.]
I'm really sorry, novelera, that I wasn't able to see last night's episode until now, and I didn't want to comment until I'd seen the episode. You did a great job of conveying everything important.
Like you, I was very happy with the way Adriana was able to deal with William. I had feared she might have been done for when he found the notebook with letters to Noelia.
Two things puzzled me about this episode (#65, I think). One is how surprised and upset Pascual is when Adriana ruins his cellphone by putting it in water. She explains what he should have known already--his cellphone can be used to track him. So if he wants to disappear, he has to get rid of the phone ASAP. How could he not have known that? He should have been relieved and thankful that Adriana zapped it!
I was even more surprised that Linda and Fernandez didn't insist on seeing the security camera footage immediately. I suppose it's at least a bit plausible that Pascual didn't know he could be tracked by his phone, but surely experienced police officers like Linda and Fernandez would know not to give people time to doctor the security camera footage. What's with these characters? Don't they watch telenovelas??
Thanks to everyone who wrote the last recaps! I had some busy days in a row and I only had time to read them.
Is anyone planning on doing a recap for Friday's episode? If no one volunteers I could write a short one, but it won't be posted today. I'd rather I do next week's Friday's recap though.
Ilgaz rips into Ceylin. You saw the complaint in my office. You stole information, went to the hospital, lied, and secured a new client. You took advantage. You violated the privacy of the investigation and took pictures of the paperwork! Two crimes, DSL 285 and 286. But you know that, avukat hanım! Answer me!
Ceylin draws a breath… “no pasa nada” [in Turkish she said “bir soru yok ki” – there’s no question.] Ilgaz continues to rant, that’s exactly what happened! Surprise me for once. I wish it was a coincidence and not a game. Ceylin interrupts, I’ve been kind and straightforward so far. This is who I am. I’m not lying to anyone.
That won’t work with me, Ilgaz responds, you can’t get business from stolen information. Understand? As a prosecutor I have principles of ethical behavior. You’re putting my job at risk. When will you use your head? When you’re going to crash? When you lose your job? I won’t be sad when that happens, you deserve it. Ilgaz doesn’t let up on her.
Ok, I understand, Ceylin replies, it was a mistake, even a crime. He would have hired a lawyer, right? I became that lawyer. What’s wrong with that? I’m broke, as if you didn’t know. I sleep in my office, shivering each night. They removed the gas meter. I’m behind in my office rent, apartment rent, taxes, and other bills. I’m begging for a little mercy. She admits it was wrong but counts it as forgivable.
Ilgaz says, there’s nothing to forgive. You can’t take the law into your own hands. You can’t do as you please. You’re taking advantage of the situation and our relationship. [and wasn’t their situation and relationship a manipulation of the law?] He calls her selfish. He says, I trusted you. That’s why I told you about the complaint. I trusted you, but… Ilgaz’s phone rings and Ceylin wants him to finish that sentence before he picks up. Ilgaz chooses to answer the call. He’s called to go to an incident.
A young man was kicked out of his house. He became so upset, he went up to the roof of a building and jumped. Metin is working this scene. Ilgaz shows up and is surprised to see his father there. Eren tells him that Metin’s retirement app was denied. Eren is happy about that. Metin explains to Ilgaz that it seems to be a suicide, but they will investigate.
Lacin arrives home and the housekeeper tells her that Gul has been waiting to see her. It’s scary, she tells Lacin and suggests that Lacin go to her room. Maybe Gul will leave. Lacin decides to face Gul.
Gul holds her hand up to stop Lacin from coming close. She begins, that day you came to console me. I cried a lot. You held my hand and wiped my tears in Inci’s room. I said there were still good people in this world. You knew. You killed my daughter without mercy. How did you do it? Gul gets agitated and hits herself on the head, I keep thinking, thinking, thinking… and I can’t find the answer. How could you laugh at my pain?
Lacin whimpers. Gul raises her voice, how could you?! I can’t find the answer! What kind of mother are you? Haven’t you felt remorse? How dare you look me in the eye? We found solace in you, we trusted you.
Lacin bursts out crying. Gul tells her, don’t cry. No llores. Ağlama. You haven’t experienced real pain yet. Your heart hasn’t been crushed yet. I asked God to send you the same pain you caused me. May it be quick and deep. Gul takes a white cloth out of her bag. A shroud. I hope you wrap your son in this with your own hands. She throws it at Lacin. Throw dirt on that murderer son of yours. You’ll experience real pain. With that, Gul leaves and Lacin sobs.
Ilgaz works on the hospital case. He meets a doctor at the child’s house. Examine the child carefully, Ilgaz instructs, check if the treatment received at the hospital has anything to do with it or if she has a chronic illness. Then we’ll take her to the medical examiner for further testing.
As Ilgaz walks to the house, Ceylin comes out with the mother. She says to the woman, I’ll inform the hospital you accepted the offer. She says to Ilgaz, If the lady accepts, she will withdraw the complaint. The woman confirms this to Ilgaz. Ilgaz says it will be investigated regardless. Ilgaz and the Dr. enter the house. Ceylin tells the woman not to worry. [something is fishy about this case, IMHO.]
Eren calls Ceylin. He has good news. They will meet by the woman’s house.
Cinar has managed to get a visit with Engin. Good thing it’s behind a partition. Cinar demands, give me a reason. Why did you kill her? Engin replies, I miss her a lot. Cinar is shocked by the response. What? To miss someone, you must first love her. Who said I didn’t, Engin answers. Why did you kill her if you loved her?! Engin says, she rejected me, and you know that. She never looked at me the way she looked at you. Then she walked away from me, and I sentenced her.
Cinar shouts, bastard! Is that what you call love?! Neither one of us had the right to touch her, much less hurt her! You’re a psycho! An animal! That girl isn’t with us because of you! Engin stays eerily calm throughout Cinar’s barrage. He replies, that’s life.
Cinar explodes again, I’ll ruin your life, I’ll kill you!! I’ll kill you with my bare hands! When you get out, I’ll kill you! I’m warning you! Engin smirks and this enrages Cinar even more. The guards drag him away. [uh oh, I think Cinar might become involved in yet another homicide case] Engin adds Cinar’s name to his origami.
Ilgaz talks to the mother. He looks at the child’s meds. He asks, how long has she been sick? The mother says since she was small. She had a hole in her heart. We see the girl and she’s on oxygen. Ilgaz was under the impression the girl was getting better. The mother says, yes, but now she’s feeling bad again. [hmm….] Ilgaz asks about the girl’s father. The woman says he’s upstairs with his wife and children. We got divorced and I got custody.
The Dr. says that he can’t reach a conclusion. Thorough tests are needed. The girl is exhausted and has lost muscle mass. The Dr. wonders if the hospital is at fault or if it’s something else. The mother looks concerned [hmmm….] The mother blames it on the meds.
Ilgaz asks the mother for a glass of water (so he can speak to the Dr). He shows him the meds and asks, are these ok for a child? My aunt uses these. The Dr. says they are0 not for children. They’re too strong and have a different use. Ilgaz takes a pic of them. On the way out, Ilgaz tells the Dr. he doesn’t like this. He wants the tests done asap.
Ceylin is waiting outside. She asks if things are like before. Are we going to argue, and you will hinder my work? Ilgaz says this has nothing to do with her. There’s something wrong and I’ll figure it out. Your plan failed. Ceylin says, if there is a crime, find it, but if it is human error, it can be compensated. I don’t know what you saw, Ilgaz replies, but we didn’t see the same thing. He walks away.
Eren pulls up to the scene. He tells IlCey that Yekta went to Bursa that night. [about 3 hrs from Istanbul by car]. Ceylin asks if Lacin said otherwise. Eren says Lacin didn’t go with Yekta. Pars and Yekta went to a hospital. Ilgaz asks why. Eren says he found out through his ex. An old friend of hers works at that hospital. The hospital admin was warned not to leak any information, and a fee was paid. That night a report disappeared.
Ilgaz thinks Pars might be covering for Yekta. Maybe. [we know it’s the other way around] Ceylin can’t help but offer her opinion. The great DA (Pars) was acting behind our backs. Let’s see what else he was up to. Let’s go. He’ll have to hear it from me. Ilgaz tells her not to do anything. He wants to find the details first. Ilgaz drives off. Eren offers her a ride. She’ll take a taxi.
Metin shows up at Ilgaz office. He waits for Ilgaz to return. Metin notices IlCey’s “aile cüzdanı” (marriage certificate) on a shelf. He opens it and gets a shock. Just then, Neva barges into the office. Oops. Metin shows her the marriage cert. Do you know about this? Neva admits she knows something. Metin is upset, who gave them permission to get married? How could they? [they are adults. They needed permission?]
Neva assures Metin that this is only temporary. This doesn’t relax Metin. Neva says it was necessary. She explains that things got complicated and Ilgaz had to make a statement. He didn’t want to put Ceylin’s career at risk. He married her to avoid testifying. Metin tosses the cert on Ilgaz’s desk and walks out.
Engin pores over the docs that the lawyer gave him. A cellmate asks him for legal help. Engin says don’t bother me, I won’t be here very long.
Ilgaz comes to see Pars. He’s working on Engin’s indictment. His crime is classified as premeditated homicide. Punishable by life imprisonment. Ilgaz agrees and invites Pars to get something to eat. Pars agrees to meet when he finishes.
Gul is waiting for Ceylin at her office door. Ceylin walks past her and into the office. She replays the last words she had for her family—I won’t treat you this way when the truth comes out, I’ll call you sister and mother. She turns back to her mother, “hoşgeldin, anne” welcome, mother. Gul enters.
As they walk home, Aylin tells Osman she’s also mad at her father, but if he showed up now, she’d forget it right away. Girls have a special relationship with their fathers. Parla will forgive you. They turn the corner, and the police are at Gul’s door. The officer asks them if this is Zafer Erguvan’s house? We want to talk to him. Aylin says he’s out fishing.
The officer tells them they found his wallet in an abandoned car near the cemetery. The officer asks how long Zafer has been gone. Several days. The officer asks, do you want to report him missing? Osman says, no, we’ll find out who he went with. Aylin worries that something happened to her father. They decide to check at the dock.
Eren gives us a little personal info. He tells colleagues having children wasn’t for us. With children, you can never rest. Besides, did we get married in a rush for nothing?
Metin summons Eren to his office. It’s not going to be a pleasant convo. Metin moves in close, you know, don’t you? Eren doesn’t understand. Don’t play with me, Metin warns, I’m talking about his marriage. Eren plays dumb. Metin’s anger increases. How long were you planning to hide it? They decided to hide it, Eren replies, it wasn’t my idea.
I don’t know why Metin is taking this out on poor Eren. You think this is a game? Does this suit you? Eren says there was no celebration, only the ceremony. Metin says, you did it to save the girl. Eren thinks he should ask Ilgaz. The hell with him, Metin replies, I found out. He secretly got married as not to testify against her. If you say so, Eren answers. What a shame, Eren. [why is this Eren’s fault?]
Ilgaz and Pars are at a restaurant. Pars asks about Ceylin. Ilgaz just replies, “afiyet olsun” (Turkish equivalent of buen provecho, bon appetit.) Pars wonders why Ilgaz invited him. Ilgaz says nothing, they clink their glasses of rakı and drink. Pars understands this must be important. Ilgaz begins, I can say many negative things about you. You are difficult, complicated, and extremely arrogant. Thank you, Pars replies. We all have an opinion about people, Ilgaz says.
Pars tells Ilgaz to say something nice, so we don’t choke. I always appreciated you, Ilgaz admits. Your seriousness, your intelligence and your passion for your job. I admire you. I could say you are one of the best prosecutors I’ve ever met. Pars jokes, what is this, Ilgaz? Am I dying or what? I wonder why everyone has a breaking point, Ilgaz replies, from The Creation in Genesis, is there a moment when we all bend? Pars tells Ilgaz to explain himself better. Here it comes: I know you were with Yekta on the night of the murder. What did you do, Pars? Pars is stunned. He looks like he might really die.
Ilgaz takes this silence to mean something and accuses Pars of covering for Yekta. It’s not like that, Pars replies. What is it then, Ilgaz says, I know you went to a hospital and destroyed a report. Is that right, Pars? What are you covering up? Pars finally admits, it wasn’t Yekta’s report, it was mine.
Flashback. Two people drive up on a car that’s had an accident in Bursa. It’s Pars. He’s slumped over the steering wheel, the horn is blaring. The people call an ambulance. Pars gets an EEG at the hospital, and he just wants to get out of there in a hurry. A doctor comes in to discuss results and tells Pars he has a type of epilepsy—"falling down syndrome” [atonic or akinetic seizures cause sudden loss of muscle strength.] Pars calls Yekta and says he needs his help. No one can know about this. [I guess he calls sleazy Yekta to do dirty work. Doesn’t he realize there will be a price to pay?] end flash.
Pars recounts, Yekta destroyed the report as if I’d never been to the hospital. Now you know, Ilgaz. I didn’t dirty my hands for anyone. I just hid information about my personal life. Ilgaz looks properly ashamed.
Gul asks Ceylin why the office is such a mess. She tells her mom she got rid of that bastard’s stuff. Gul says, you will straighten it up. Ceylin gets emotional, I’ll straighten it up mom, like I always do. But it’s hard. Gul suggests relocating. Why did you come, Ceylin asks, are you playing games? Don’t beat around the bush. Gul blurts, I want to be close to you again. I… I’m very sorry, Gul says tearfully, I’m very ashamed. A mother knows her child. I didn’t know. I was so blind I couldn’t see. An equally teary Ceylin asks in reply, you never saw it?
Gul admits Ceylin is right. It was my ignorance, my emotional imbalance, my pain… my insanity prevented me from seeing it. Forgive me. She promises to do her best for Ceylin. I’ve been so unfair to you, I don’t know how to answer to you. I don’t even know if I can answer to the Lord. Will you forgive me? Forgive us? Ceylin buries her head in her hands and cries. Gul understands if Ceylan can’t do that. Gul gets up and comforts her daughter.
Aylin and Osman show up at the docks and ask about Zafer. No one knows where he is. A man named Ahmet volunteers to make some calls to find out what boat he was on.
Ilgaz asks Pars about his treatment. Are you doing well? Pars claims he’s not sick. It only happened once and didn’t happen again. [except when he couldn’t move his arm] He plays it off as a sleep problem he’s always had. Ilgaz thinks Pars is not taking this seriously enough. Pars insists he’s not an epileptic and he’s not sick. I won’t let people look at me with pity, he states.
Is that the way you see it, Ilgaz asks? Pars replies, if just a shadow falls on you and you sink. You have to understand me. You got married to avoid lying. Admit it, our reputation is very important. Ilgaz accuses Pars of arrogance. You’re sick. Anyone can get sick. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. The waiter brings food. Pars complains to Ilgaz, they didn’t bring my kavurma. He downs his rakı, says afiyet olsun and leaves.
Gul asks Ceylin, so you’re not coming home? Ceylin can’t, she feels very offended. Memories can’t disappear at the push of a button, she tells her mom, I can’t pretend nothing happened. Give me time. Gul understands, but says the house is lonely. They took Inci, you’re here, and dad left. Who knows when he will be back. Ceylin asks why did he leave for so long? Where did he go? When is he coming back? Gul has no idea. He just said goodbye and left. Your dad knows how to run away. [so does Ceylin] She tells Ceylin, as long as I’m alive, the door will always be open to you.
Engin’s been a busy beaver. He works on his plans into the night. We see him with a pic of Yekta and a pic of Ceylin. I guess he considers them tops on his hit list.
Ilgaz has dinner with Eren. He has told him about Pars. Eren was sorry to hear about it and adds, it’s better than being impotent. [lol] Ilgaz is embarrassed and says, I accused him while staring him in the eye. Eren thinks it’s good that Pars is hiding it. Ilgaz says that Pars is proud. He’s ashamed. It’s a curable disease. [there’s no known cure for epilepsy but it’s treatable.] He takes medicine and keeps working. Ilgaz tells Eren not to say anything to anyone, especially to that avukat hanım (Ceylin).
Eren asks, now that you mention her, what did you do with her? Nothing, Ilgaz replies, she left after the trial and didn’t even say goodbye. As if nothing happened, as if we hadn’t fought together. She forgot she lived with me. She just walked away.
Didn’t you ask her to stay, Eren asks? I wasn’t going to force her, Ilgaz replies, I thought we were friends, and we had an agreement [yes, a marriage certificate] There wasn’t. You need two people to reach an agreement. Both must want it. She chose to walk away. She said she was good at escaping. Ilgaz laughs. He wants to drink to those who escape. No, no, Eren quickly says, to the ones who stay. [Ilgaz is stubborn in his pursuit of truth and justice, but he won’t pursue Ceylin. Bah!]
We see Ceylin stalking Yekta.
And we are out.
Thank you, dondi356.
Ceylin should bill Ilgaz for her services as a defense lawyer for Cinar, if she is so broke.
Pars and Yekta's secret is revealed. Ceylin will want to know. Will they be able to keep it from her?
In the hospital case, the woman accepted Ceylin's offer very quickly. Maybe she should have her own lawyer to make sure Ceylin and the hospital don't rip her off.
Thanks, Lucio.
“Ceylin should bill Ilgaz for her services as a defense lawyer for Cinar…” You’re right! No one thought about that?
I thought Pars’ secret would be something juicier. But I guess this could make for some drama.
I could be wrong, but I am thinking this woman is scamming the hospital. I think Ilgaz might suspect this, too. The woman is divorced, and her ex is remarried with other children. Maybe she needs the money. The daughter was improving, now she had a serious setback. And the meds are contraindicated for children. Could be why she was eager to settle.
I just looked at the original ep. They cut the scene where Ceylin goes to see the mother of the sick child. Her name is Meltem. She explains her daughter has been sick since 2013. She mentions something about hospital records being lost. But she remembers everything. A mother remembers everything about her child, she says. I told them what the problem was, but they didn’t listen. I told them not to touch my child, and they didn’t listen. They did everything without my knowledge.
Ceylin is very sympathetic. She notes that Meltem is tired and Elif has gotten worse. She says Elif can be treated in any hospital you want. Meltem says it’s the same at every hospital we go to. No one can look after my daughter better than me. Ceylin asks, how can we make you happy? And Ceylin mentions the hospital wants to settle. If you want to listen, they have an offer. Meltem and Elif look at each other. We didn’t hear the offer.
At this point, Ilgaz arrives, and we saw the rest.
Here's a short recap of what happened on early Friday: (some scenes are combined)
Olga calls Chuy "hijo", he starts screaming at her that she's a liar and that they're not related. Olga starts crying. Cami enters, without listening to or seeing all this mess and Chuy tells her that he found some videos she needs to see.
Adriana is with some sort of secretary (?), Vicky, at Mariana's house that is taking care of Mariana's schedule etc (Telemundo should consider hiring her for its schedule. It can't get worse than what already is). Adriana tells her to cancel everything she has for the rest of the week. The secretary says that it's impossible, it has been planned months in advance and her trip cost them millions already.
César is with Manuel at his house, he tells him about Mariana Stanford. Manuel says that the photos Adriana used must have been her twin's. César wants Manuel to make him a fake profile so that Mariana (or so he thinks) can add him as a friend. He says that this way he'll find Cara Sucia.
Chuy shows Cami and Tomás camera footage that shows Pascual getting into Eva's car and Renata walking up to and talking to him. Cami says that her mom lied then and Pascual may actually be the killer. Chuy smiles slightly but says that it's a serious accusation to make. Cami then says that Eva must have died in their house and asks Chuy where he was at the time. Chuy, cool as a cucumber, says that he doesn't remember I think, but if he had been at their house, he must have been working like always. Cami tells him to protect the footage with his life and not show them to anyone, especially to the police.
Vicky tells Adriana, who's printing some "important documents", that Mr. del Río is here. Adriana thinks it's Pascual and says she doesn't want to see him but it's actually FJ! She doesn't turn to face him yet, which is a good thing, especially because of her facial expression. After she fixes her facial expression, FJ apologises for not telling her he was coming and says he wants to ask her a few questions about her sister Adriana.
Adriana of course avoids the conversation, she says she doesn't have a lot of time and she didn't know her very well because they got seperated since they were young. FJ says that she was there, at the amusement park, when Adriana was murdered. Adriana obviously didn't expect that. FJ says about his father going to her hotel room to collect her stuff. He asks her how she knows him. (There's a scene change. She didn't answer that question then.) Adriana says that he seems to know more things than most. He says that he does, why was she there though? She quickly makes some fake story about Adriana calling her (if they didn't really talk with each other, how did she have her number?) because someone was after her and they would meet to give her some money, but she was murdered. She asks him how did he know her sister. He starts saying the things we already know and that he loved her etc. Adriana is about to cry.
Olga and Chuy have another fight. He says that they have served this family for thirty years when she should have been serving him, maid! He rightfully gets a slap for that. He then tells her (with the formal usted) she needs to keep her mouth shut and then they start crying and hugging. Is there ONE normal family in this show?
Back to Adriana with FJ, Adriana tells him that her sister must have felt the connection he's talking about as well but got scared every time. He insists on learning things about Adriana and asks her where does she know his father from again. She makes another fake story (FJ was right calling her a professional liar) that Adriana said he's dangerous or something like that but she didn't get the chance to meet him? FJ gives her the M necklace and they agree to go to eat lunch later to talk about her sister.
Meanwhile, Pascual has come to the company. Vicky, mentions that "Mariana" is busy with another client that has the same last name with him. She says he's name is Francisco Javier del Río. Pascual later sees FJ talking with Adriana and leaving. After he left, he asks her what the hell is she doing with his son.
Back at The Zoo (thanks to whoever named it that), Cami and Tomás accuse Renata of knowing much more than what she says. They say they saw the camera footage, WHY? Their dad killed Eva in their house. Renata says that it's true! She keeps the main story the same I think, but says that Pascual was the one who hit Eva. (SHE was the one who hit her.) Cami asks her why didn't she tell them anything? She says it was an accident. I had awful audio in this scene, but I think Renata said that he killed Alejandra and Adriana?! Cami says that she can never look César and Noelia in the eyes again.
Pascual and Adriana have a "filler" conversation. No new information. Vicky enters and tells her a man who knew her sister called. His name is César Ferrer.
César doesn't actually talk with "Mariana". Manuel finds Mariana's company's web site and says that they're looking for a Maths professor for kids. I think they'll make a fake professor profile for César.
Renata calls Pascual, who of course doesn't pick it up because Adriana destroyed his phone. Chuy comes in and Renata screams at him for letting Cami and Tomás see the camera footage. Olga comes in the room and Renata continues screaming that he betrayed her etc. After Renata leaves, Chuy smiles and says that now they'll see that Chuy isn't good. Tell us something we don't know Chuy.
Cami tells César that her mom told them that Pascual killed Eva, Alejandra and Adriana. She's going back to her parents' house because she can't see them in the eye anymore. César says that it doesn't make sense, why would he kill Adriana? Cami tells him that she was his lover and she saw the security camera footage blah blah. She tells him her dad has escaped. César says something about finding him and Cara Sucia to make sure Pascual killed Adriana.
Cami and César break the news thar Cami is leaving to Noelia. They tell her that they'll be together like a family at the end just like she wants (foreshadowing?)
Adriana and FJ go for lunch. FJ says he would have given everything for Adriana while Adriana cries blah blah. Pascual is there and listening to the conversation. FF -->, the only semi important thing is that Adriana regrets letting FJ go.
Linda and a cop arrive at The Zoo and they want to see the camera footage. Renata says that Pascual did it and has escaped. Linda alerts the other police officers via phone. Renata thinks that now they'll leave without seeing the cameras, but Linda tells her they're not Barros. They insist on the cameras.
Both my sound and subtitles vanished at this point! If anyone can fill out the gaps please do so.
THanks VERY MUCH, Weirdo, for a terrific recap of a rather interesting episode. I loved your snarky asides, like suggesting Telemundo hire the PITA scheduler who tries to run "Mariana's" life. I agree that she'd do a better job of scheduling, with the added bonus of making life intolerable for the folks at Telemundo. :-)
I'm expecting company any minute, so let me just try quickly to fill in what happened after your sound and subtitles went out. (Yikes!)
One MAJOR event was Tomás feeling that he no longer has a father, and he finds that extremely liberating. "I'm not Pascual," he says to Ines. Feeling freed from a connection to Pascual, he tells Ines, "I'm yours. I'm happy to have someone in my life who loves me." He then kisses her--a real kiss. And yes, that leads where I think we all hoped it would lead. They DO THE DEED--on the couch! They're both happy in each other's arms. [I thought we might have to wait for the gran final for this scene.]
César says, "I'm sure Cara Sucia killed Adriana. He's close to us. He knows us well."
Renata is furious that Chuy let Cami and Tomás see the security camera footage. She tells Chuy, "I thought you were loyal to me. Leave this house at once!" And I think on that note, the episode ends.
Juanita, thanks a million for adding the last scenes. Yikes about the sound and subtitles indeed. This show has given me more technical problems than the rest combined LOL!
thanks so much Weirdo, terrific recap!
and thanks Juanita for topping it off!
what's with the secretary pushing the pills, is she in cahoots with William?
apparently by the way everyone is acting, no one knows Mariana is Adriana except Pascual, interesting to see the emotion she sheds for FJ, was there even one tear when her sister died?
I think it was not being able to reach Pascual that caused Renata to turn, or maybe it was just a case of looking out for number 1.
interesting talk Cesar had with Linda, she says they are looking for Pascual, last seen in Miami, Cesar thinks Cara killed Adriana, put him in jail, and is manipulating all the evidence.
woe is Ray, tomorrow he buries his sister, his mother says she will kill herself after the funeral, and Cami loves a man that is more deserving of her.
Ceylan was not stalking Yekta. She was waiting for him to leave his office so she could go see Cuneyt (ex lover). He’s surprised to see her. Ha, she locks them in the office so they can’t be disturbed. She greets him, hello Cuneyt, did Yekta promise you this position? And you believed him? You’re a smart man… or did I waste my time with a naïve idiot?
Cuneyt asks, what do you want? Why are you here? I’m here to play truth or dare, she replies. Let’s start with some truths. Answer truthfully for the sake of the friendship we had. You know how I feel about you, Cuneyt replies, you’re my weakness, but don’t mix it with work.
He reaches out to touch her and she blocks him. She reminds him, I broke up with you, I don’t like idiots. And this isn’t about work. The man who gave you this position is protecting my sister’s killer. Cuneyt denies this. Ceylin asks, did Yekta put the evidence in Osman’s house? Ha, Cuneyt did that at the request of Yekta so there’s no answer. Ceylin asks, is Pars helping Yekta because they share a secret? Cuneyt answers yes. Ceylin has what she came for. She warns him, Yekta will sell you out the first chance he gets. She leaves.
Ilgaz and Eren walk. Eren tells him that Metin found out about the marriage. He tricked me into confirming it. You’re in for it when you get home, Eren warns. Ilgaz says he’ll deal with it. Eren says he has to go.
Neva calls Ilgaz and asks to meet with him.
Pars asks Neva if she knows that Ilgaz has a grandfather. She didn’t think he had one. Pars snarks, are you sure you had an affair with Ilgaz? Pars tells her about Merdan Kaya. He was recently released after 10 years in prison. Neva is surprised. Pars says Merdan is a man who got his start scamming people and then moved on to worse crimes. Let’s hope he doesn’t dirty his grandson’s reputation. Pars produces the archive on Merdan for Neva to read. Read it, he tells his sister, learn about the man you wanted to start a family with.
Merdan shows up at the Kaya house with gifts and baklava [non-poisonous we hope]. Makbule calls out for Defne to come, grandpa’s here! Metin gives Merdan the stink eye as the old man puts on slippers and with a “Bismillah” he enters the room, right foot forward.
Defne brings Cinar and introduces him to Merdan. Cinar thinks this is a joke. Metin had told him Grandpa was dead. Merdan holds out his hand to be kissed. With some prompting from Metin, Cinar shakes his Grandpa’s hand. Merdan pulls him into a hug. It’s awkward. They head to the table.
Someone has left a space heater outside Ceylin’s office. She smiles. Does she think Ilgaz sent it? She sets it up right away. There’s a knock at her door. She looks surprised to see Eren. She probably hoped it was Ilgaz. She invites him in. [So this is what Eren had to do when he left Ilgaz]
Merdan complements Makbule’s cooking. He asks if Metin told her to make the casserole. No, she replies, but I knew you’d want it. Defne excuses herself from the table to open her gift. Merdan asks about Cinar’s recuperation and says, the man who stabbed you, died. This is the work of Allah. He choked on a piece of baklava. No one liked him, not one person came to his aid.
Cinar excuses himself, but Merdan puts his hand on Cinar’s shoulder. You hardly ate. Cinar replies, you just came back from the dead. Don’t force it. I’ve heard we are alike in that way. Merdan admits he can be insistent on even the smallest things. I think this dinner will give Metin indigestion.
Cinar and Makbule leave the table. Merdan asks Metin what’s wrong. Nothing, Metin replies, mind your own business. The boy didn’t seem to mind, Merdan says, this is all Allah’s doing. Only he can decide who lives and who dies. Even if the person has been shot three times. This gets a reaction from Metin.
Ilgaz arrives home and is stunned to see Merdan at the table.
Eren comments on the state of Ceylin’s office. She says people look at you weird when you don’t pay your bills. You can’t live like this, he tells her. She says she’ll figure it out. She’s selling stuff and getting a car. Ceylin changes the subject to Ilgaz. Your friend has issues with me. I’m glad you brought that up, Eren replies, when did you decide you were done with Ilgaz? You seemed fine, what did I miss?
Should I have a reason, Ceylin asks. Nothing good came of us being together. It was short-lived, that’s all. Eren thinks she’s in denial. You got along. Why are you running away? Ceylin holds back on an answer. Eren presses, don’t give me that look. Why do you insist on swimming against the current? Ceylin says it was necessary.
Eren says don’t take this the wrong way, but there’s no evidence to support your argument. Ceylin gives in and unloads. I’m a disaster. I’m impulsive. I’m good at choosing what’s right for me in the moment, then discarding it in the next. I don’t look for answers from anyone. So yes, I ran away, that’s what I do. I’m a solitary person. I don’t even talk to my family. She gets emotional. I left home and now I’m living in my office. I can’t even have a relationship. I can’t connect with anyone.
Ceylin continues, do you see water lilies. They have no roots. They go wherever the water takes them. That’s me. I’m darkness… and he is the brightest light. My darkness envelops him. We just met and already I’ve turned his life upside down. It’s my fault his integrity and honesty has been questioned. I didn’t want it to end like that. But I can’t stop, and he won’t change. We are a big disaster waiting to happen. There’s no stopping it. It’s what I do… I ruin things. Darkness always snuffs out the light.
Eren has been listening quietly. No one is perfect, he says. He might as well be, Ceylin replies. She’s weepy. Ay, Eren, why did you make me talk? He makes her laugh. [Eren is a good friend to have. IlCey are lucky.]
Back to the family reunion dinner. Merdan complements Makbule again. He states that eating makes him drowsy. Must be my age, he says and ask, where will I be sleeping? Metin reluctantly tells Makbule to prepare a bed.
Ilgaz questions his father. What is he doing here? He just came, Metin replies, what do you want me to do? Ilgaz says he needs to leave asap. You never welcomed him before. Tell him to leave. Metin is in a dilemma—how? He’s old and he’s family. Ilgaz warns, he’ll stay for good if you don’t. We’ll see, Metin says, he’ll only stay for a few days. He won’t stay forever. [wishful thinking]
Ilgaz notes that Merdan got out of prison and came right here. I don’t understand, he tells his father. You spent years saying he’d never come back… that he’d never set foot in our house again. Are you trying to kill us? What changed? Ilgaz thinks for a second then asks, is he dying? Metin shakes his head… no. He’s more and more stubborn. Nothing will happen to him, he doesn’t care about anything. I had a moment of carelessness, the door opened, and he came in. Metin says, be patient, I’ll kick him out soon.
Let’s hope so, Ilgaz replies. He asks about his father’s retirement. We protect Ceylin, but who is going to protect me, Metin asks. I think we are even. You married her without telling us. So my retirement… you can forgive me for that.
Engin meets with his lawyer. He asks her to pick a number. Five. He takes out his origami and counts. These are the first, the rest will wait for later. He says, too much too soon can scare them away. Here’s Cinar… Ilgaz… that cop (Eren)… and my beloved father. The others wait their turn. Engin hands her detailed instructions of what she needs to do. If you follow these, he says, everything will work out. He adds, I wrote something for you on my father’s sheet. I think you’ll like it. She puts the papers in her bag. Let’s get to work, Engin says cheerfully, time to watch the world burn.
A package is delivered to llgaz’s office. The secretary takes it.
Defne informs Metin that Grandpa is taking her to school. Merdan tells Metin he should sell his car, it’s old. Metin says MYOB.
A huge helping of snark is served for breakfast at the Tilmen’s. Yekta lords it over Lacin. He makes her sick. He orders her to sit at the table and eat. They each receive a text: be at the restaurant at 2.
A woman shows up at the DA office and asks specifically for Pars.
Ceylin reviews hospital video on Elif’s case. She spots something. Meltem clearly signs the paperwork. She lied. Ceylin wants copies of the video.
Ilgaz meets Neva at a restaurant. It starts off awkwardly. I know you’re expecting an explanation, he says. I think I’m entitled to one after three years, she replies. Ilgaz says things were great at first. You think it will always be that way, but things change. Neva shoots back, but I haven’t changed. Ilgaz says he has changed a little. It’s been difficult for both of us lately… because of time and distance.
They start to argue about him not showing up for some date. He cuts it off and offers it differently. I didn’t know how to act around you, he tells her, and I still don’t. There were a lot of awkward silences and tension. You’re a good person, and that’s valuable. You’d make anyone happy.
Aylin goes to see her mother. She gives her money for the market. Gul won’t accept it. Aylin says, Ceylin is gone, Dad isn’t here. You have no help. Gul snaps back, I told you I’d figure it out. I’ll work if I have to. Besides I have gold coins and a bracelet that I’ve saved. Uh oh, Gul discovers the gold is missing.
Neva says she didn’t expect this from Ilgaz. And maybe they shouldn’t bring up the past. You should have told me this when you decided to leave, she says. Ilgaz explains she never gave him the chance to say it to her face. He ended up doing it over the phone. She asks, is there any possibility? I wouldn’t do it if I could, he replies.
Neva changes the subject to the real reason she called. She wants to talk about Pars. She says, I think he’s sick. Help me.
Ahmed tells Aylin and Gul that no one knows where Zafer is. He wasn’t out on any of the boats.
A colleague comes to Eren and says they caught a girl stealing. She only wants to speak with you.
Ilgaz meets with Pars outdoors. I didn’t want to discuss this inside, he says. Neva is watching you. She’s suspicious. She asked for my help. I didn’t tell her, and I won’t tell anyone at the office. But she deserves to know. Pars says there’s nothing to tell her. But then he asks, what does she know? Ilgaz says that Neva is not stupid. She thinks you are sick. She could help you. Family support helps. Ilgaz gives Pars a doctor’s business card. He’s good, he’s discreet. No one has to know. Pars sincerely thanks Ilgaz and says, I won’t forget your friendship.
Ceylin goes to see the AG. I’m here to finish the conversation from yesterday. It has to do with Pars. [Ay, Ceylin, Ilgaz warned you] I believe he worked with Yekta Tilmen and abused his power for personal gain. The AG doesn’t take this well. You barge in and say this about my prosecutor? What proof do you have? She tells him about the meeting at the hospital in Bursa on Sept 2. Ask the hospital. Pars destroyed Yekta’s file. [and now Ceylin is destroying both Pars and Ilgaz.] I’m sure you will deal with this before I do. She leaves.
Ridvan tells Pars Ms. Handan is waiting for him. She’s already been told to go through the proper channels but she wants to wait for you. Pars tells Handan that anyone here can handle her case with utmost professionalism. Follow the proper channels, he tells her. We will review and call you if we need a statement. Pars walks away but Handan insists on speaking with Pars. She will wait.
Pars drafts a letter to the AG withdrawing his complaint against Ilgaz and Ceylin. The suspicions were unfounded. He brings the letter to the AG. And he even admits he can be wrong sometimes. The AG asks, you’re dropping the investigation? What happened? Will I have to make sure you recuse yourself because of a friendship with Yekta? Was that the deal? [uh, oh] Pars leaves the AG and he’s devastated.
Eren meets the girl in custody. She tells him I’m Ozlem’s daughter, get me out of here. He’s stunned. [I have no idea who Ozlem is.]
Eren makes a call. Ozlem? This is Officer Eren. Do you have a daughter named Tugce? She was caught stealing. She’s at the station and she gave my name. We have to take her statement. You should come. She’s been assigned a public defender. Eren finds an anonymous note on his desk: o senin kızın? - Is she your daughter? What the hell??
Makbule gives Cinar a phone. She tells him it’s used but it has a new number and was wiped clean. Cinar finds a video on the phone. We don’t see much. It looks like the bus he was on with Zafer. [anyone?]
Merdan has Metin’s car towed away. He tells the driver. Get rid of it. Don’t leave a trace. Then he pays a visit to Metin at work. He comments, I’ve never seen this side of a police station. Metin says he doesn’t have time for this. Before Merdan leaves, he tells his son, I took care of your car.
Metin asks with aggravation, am I a child? Why did you take my car? Merdan replies, you might not call me Dad, or say my name, but I’ll always watch your back. Metin asks, you know? Your father always knows everything, Merdan replies. Metin follows it up—did you take the body? Of course, Merdan says. Don’t worry, he’s resting six feet under. Merdan leaves and makes a call—a body is missing. Find it quickly.
We also see Gul and Aylin heading to the police station.
Ceylin comes to Ilgaz with the video from the hospital. Ms. Meltem can be seen in the video, signing all the papers. Ilgaz asks if this is original footage. It could have been altered. You don’t trust me, Ceylin asks. I can’t trust you, he replies, we’ve been down this road before. You like using tricks. Ceylin takes the original documents out of her bag. Here’s the signature. Have them analyzed. She’s a thief. Drop the case. Ilgaz says he won’t turn this in. This is still his case. He wants Ceylin to butt out. She’s sure he will turn in the evidence.
Pars barges into Ilgaz’s office. First you lie, then you play the fool? Congratulations, Ilgaz. It was a good plan for revenge. Ilgaz has no idea what he means. I didn’t get it either, Pars replies, and I didn’t suspect you. You came to me, and I told you everything. And then you reported to the AG. Bravo! [boos for guilty Ceylin] Ilgaz is at a total loss. Pars continues, trust me when I say I will pay you back in kind. And I’ll be crueler and more ruthless than you. Pars turns to go, Ilgaz wants to talk. Never! I hate being made the fool, Pars replies, there’s nothing to discuss. Ceylin tries to make a quick getaway, but Ilgaz calls her out— Ceylin, what did you do?
And we are out.
Thank you, dondi356.
Ceylin really messed up. And I don't understand what she tried to accomplish by going to AG. She should have let Ilgaz know, at least, before she did.
Grandpa Merdan got himself inserted into the family. Kind of funny, he just took Metin's car and made it disappear. Gettin' things done!
A bunch of mysteries: What's in the package delivered for Ilgaz? What is Engin's plan? What's the meeting for Yekta and Lacin at 2? Who sent the video to Cinar and what do they want? Where is Zafer? Is Tugce Eren's daughter? Who gave the space heater to Ceylin? About that one, I believe she did think it was Ilgaz and that's why she smiled. And it probably was.
Deb, interesting observations, especially Adriana crying about FJ but not about her own sister. I'm confused with where the writers are going with this. I assume there will be a HEA for César, Cami and Noelia, but I don't know what they're going to do with Adriana.
Thanks for your comment, Lucio.
“Ceylin really messed up.” Yes, she said it herself—“I ruin things”. She rushed to conclusions about Pars and Yekta because she’s so determined to nail Yekta, and she’s not a fan of Pars. She disregarded Ilgaz. Although, I don’t know how Ilgaz would have explained the situation to her without outing Pars. I don’t know if I’m supposed to like Ceylin, but right now I don’t.
Merdan is going to take over the Kaya household and make it Mafia central.
Regarding the bunch of mysteries: except for the space heater, I wouldn’t be surprised if these are part of Engin’s revenge plan. All are in the first group targeted. He gave the lawyer specific instructions for each. I don't remember, was Engin in custody when Zafer’s body disappeared? He could have been the one to take it or maybe he had someone do it.
Stay tuned to find out. They are keeping me hooked.
dondi356 - thank you for the recaps!! Glad there are a few of us watching. I'm also watching Mujer on Univision. I'm hoping both shows have happy endings. One never knows with a dizi.
Beth S
Very busy weekend. I just want to chime in and thank Weirdo very much for a fine recap in the face of more technical difficulties.
I thought it was funny that we saw Big Ed (and he's pretty big) sitting, I think, at the bar at the restaurant where FJ and Adriana had lunch. It's the usual. Wear sunglasses in a novela and no one can recognize you.
One question, and maybe I'll repeat it when the Monday page comes up. Where was Ale killed? Chuy took her to some fairly fancy house and tied her to a post at the bottom of some stairs. If they ever said where this hideout was, I missed it.
Thanks SO much for the excellent recaps, dondi. I had a busy weekend and didn't find time to comment. Maybe this comment will be missed due to posting so late.
Amen about not understanding Metin's fury at his son for getting married without his permission. Of course this is the same difference in families I've noticed in other dizis. Adult children behave differently than in the U.S. Speaking for my family, once I moved out, that was it. In my 20s I had an issue that meant moving back. I had regrouped and found my own place two months later. Same thing with my son. He moved back to CA about 10 years ago after living in AZ with his wife. They moved in with me, got jobs, got organized, and were in their own home in 3 months. It's always considered OK to ask for a short-term loan that's expected to be repaid!
Metin had a short break from being a hard ass, but now he's back. This time it's not Cinar, but Ilgaz who gets the fury.
So Pars thinks it's all right to drive with epilepsy? Yikes!
Another Turkish thing I don't get. Why would having a grandfather as a criminal necessarily ruin an upstanding grandson?
I've noticed that in most of the dizis I've seen the heroines have dark hair, while the other woman seems to be blonde.
Shot 3 times? I don't understand what Merdan said. I only remember Zafer being shot once.
So it seems that the big breakup with Neva and Ilgaz had to do with her being busy all the time? I gathered that it sort of boiled down to some personality differences. Maybe Neva didn't realize what she had until she lost him.
Novelera: Big question is who'll be appointed to Ale's US Senate seat now that she's dead ?
Her opponent in the election gets the Senate seat gaining seniority early ?
