I didn't realize that I posted my thanks to novelera just minutes before the Thursday Telemundo y Más page went up. I didn't have much to say, but I've decided to repost my message here:
Thanks very much, novelera, for coming to the rescue with these highlights.
I like to think of myself as moderately up on things, but I confess that I completely missed the fact that Tolga was into BDSM and his dom is blackmailing him. One or two shots of Tolga last night now make more sense to me.
Because of the scene of Isok and Turgot making "cement shoes," I assumed that Aslan changed the site of the meeting with Serhat to a seafood restaurant so that Serhat would be near the water. But as far as I know, nothing more was made of the "shoes."
I'm still not sure what I think of this dizi. I'm planning to continue watching, but I doubt I'd want to see another from the same writer(s).
Again, many thanks, novelera.
Oops! I responded to novelera and Juanita and I posted my Wed. recap on the previous page. I didn't realize it was after 8p. So if anyone is interested, you can check the Telemundo #1 page for this week.
Gracias, Novelera and Dondi. And now I'm super prepared for tonight's episode.
I feel like Aslan is walking a tightrope.
Great seeing Ibo squash Ati's plan for the story and Yagmur agree to testify. Not great that Leyla is alone in her illness.
Opens with the scene Alfredo kissing Paty. He tells Fern, who walked in on it, that it isn't what she thinks. She slaps him. He accuses her that she was the one that pushed him into it ( since she cut him off). She hopes he's been careful, he doesn't want to repeat his father's mistake. He's too old for more kids. She leaves but tells Paty they need to talk, as she passes by the reception area.
Ignacio, the PI, tells Frank that he told the del Pinot's that Eugenio died in Dallas ( or somewhere in Texas, I like the alliteration, dead in Dallas😂). He also found out a bit about Fernanda's history. When she was 14 her parents were killed in. Fire in LA and Fernanda disappeared.
Not sure what is up with the next scene. Elisa is talking about a school with Roberto. She says Erika and Claudia would be a help....does Elisa do foundation work or something?
The bad PI, Claudia's boyfriend, Miguel I believe, is talking with a guy in the club, his partner perhaps. He's complaining the dancers aren't up to par and the clients are bored, and absent. Miguel talks about getting Claudia involved.
Oh great, Ana is back on the street trying to buy drugs and her supplier only gives her 2b pills. The guy Miguel was talking to in the bar shows up to "help". I'll call him goatee guy until I learn his name....
Fernando is trying to get Roberto to divert 20,000. From the business to her.
Sebas and Elisa talk about Moni. He wants Moni to learn to be more refined.
Ignacio and Emilio talk about Fern. He isn't in love with her, it's a relationship with no future except she is the best bet at getting the information he wants.
Goatee guy offers Ana more pills for a price as he makes the moves on her. She fends him off and leaves.
Emilio runs into Elisa at work ( or hospital, not sure where yet). He has heard about Brenda's brothers death. He also tells her he has spoken with Marcelo about Tania, but Marcelo is too hurt and wants nothing to do with her, and that it was a shame as they made such a nice couple. The kiss is discussed but Elisa says it was nothing, she is a married woman. Their relationship is strictly work.
Mirna visits Tania in the hospital.
I guess perhaps Mirna found her in time after she slit her wrists. Tania says Alonso threatened her with releasing the video. Mirna tells her not to let him torment her life.
Erika and Claudia are talking as they polish silverware or something. The school is mentioned. Perhaps it is an ESL course or something. They are worried about Paty. (Ok this Feliz de papa term is revolting me now.)...She may end up dead.
Paty tells Alfredo she could die of shame since his wife walked in on them. He says the only important opinion is his. P: but... A: are you deaf? He is tense. Lock the door, or you know what will happen. Ok, this guy is absolutely revolting, though Paty did agree in the beginning.
Tania wants to go home and back to work. Mirna wants her to recuperate in the hospital. Tania wants the distraction of work. Mirna asks has Marcelo been in touch..nope. she tells Mirna love isn't for herself.
Brenda's dad is doing business at his house. Brenda is angry he isn't supporting her mother at this time. He tells her it's time to think of the future, she is now his sole heir. One never knows when life will end in the blink of an eye. Look what happened to your brothers. He wants to make sure Gabriel gets nothing and especially that Alfredo doesn't touch a single cent with his dirty hands.
Roberto and Fern meet. She is seducing him but then says, use that feeling on your wife. She gives him a kiss, then tells him to wipe his mouth of her lipstick.
Brenda's dad is thinking about selling up and traveling with her Mom, but he wants to be their when Eugenio Beltran returns. Brenda tells him he is dead, cut to Gabriel telling Fern the same story. She tells Gabriel his dad has been preoccupied with Paty....didn't you know,?
Moni, dressed in black with white heels, tries to catch a ride with Fern, et al to the funeral. Fern is like, in those shoes! Next scene at the gravesite. (Moni did change to black heels). Alfredo offers his hand to Adelberto, which he refuses to shake. Very uncomfortable group of mournets. Alonso is wondering when he can leave as he is burning up ( his shirt is unbuttoned as usual). What STD may he have that can't handle the heat? One lives in hope, but then Tania would likely be infected also and I wouldn't wish that on her.
Ana takes her 2 pills.
Emilio with Fermin and Erika and are driving, I think to see Ana. She needs friends and you're it.
Fern is moving her clothes to Alfredo's dead wife's room. After 20 years don't you think it should just be considered the guest room? He asks if she is jealous about Paty, she spits im furious and will never forgive him.
And the other disgusting del Pino, Alonso, is hitting on Brenda. You need a distraction. Elisa overheard their conversation.
Yuk, Alfredo is trying to justify his transgression as just needing a change of air...he has no plans to leave Fern.
Fern spins her sob story to Elisa about her father and Paty. Elisa lets drop about Alonso and Brenda. Fern nods in agreement that she knew too.
Ana scene again. Not positive what about, but Manuela was mentioned.
Fern wonders if the baby is Alonso's. No, it can't be, cancel that idea, too many problems is this house already. You have to give Fern credit. She has managed to get her 2 worst enemies (Frank and Elisa) to buy what she is peddling.
Gabriel and Brenda in bed. She says her dad just wants her to leave him. He is so tired of the same story.
Frank, Fermin and Erika discuss Ana, who had run off to her room. Of course she listens at the door. Frank really thinks she should go back home Elisa and Fern wouldn't send her back into the clinic(prison). Fermin says like they 'protected' her the last time for ten years.
Erika is at Ana's door the next day. She doesn't answer. We see her wandering in a park or something. She ignores Frank's call.
Fern talks to Paty. I think she tells her she doesn't care if she continues her affair with Alfredo.
Tania is returning home with Elisa. Not sure what Tania said she would like to do to Alonso, but I think she dreams of castrating him....she is also convinced Brenda's baby is his and that Elisa should tell Gabriel
Frank is leaving a message for Ana. Fern is walking and trying to get a hold of Mirna and is leaving her a message when of course she meets up with Ana.
Did it seem like Cemre knew Tolga? Any chance she’s the mystery dom/blackmailer? I hope not for Leylas sake, although that would be one way to get her money back if she works with Cemre.
K
I agree with you, K. It looked like Cemre and Tolga knew each other. That would be very interesting.
Kat in SC: AWESOME job with the recap of last night's episode.
I see Gabriel getting his hands dirty by having Brenda's brothers whacked LOL. You want to bet he's plotting to kill Brenda's parents next ?
At this point, I want Goldie Locks to kill Ana & GET IT OVER WITH ASAP.
Patty kissing Daddy del Pino LOL.
Kat , your recaps get better and better . Thank you .
I think I missed some recaps . Did Gabriel cause Brenda's ' brothers deaths via a car crash? Why? Does their father know that ? Susan
I can't believe that FrEmilo slept with Fern again ! She is really one of the physically creepiest villains I have ever seen ...that icy stare . She thinks we can control all these hombres by bedding them .
I am still confused about Mirna. She seems to try to advise both Fern and Tania all the time. Does ahe know that Fern is a killing machine ? Yikes
I just watched the actor playing Alonso in " El Conde" and another novela, and he was a villain in both , but thks character is super amoral and smarmy. Ugh!
Is Brenda really pregnant?
Susan. I posted episode 21 late on the week 1 post yesterday. I did it is 3 parts that I had started around 4 so I finished I there. I'm not positive how the accident occurred. I think it was a car accident. Who knows maybe the guy he hired drugged their drinks and it was an accident because of that. This TN skips around so much with 30 seconds scenes I have a hard time following it.
Yes, Brenda is pregnant. I may not have recapped the one where she asks the OB Dr to lie for her before the artificial insemination. There is a good chance the baby is Alonso's, but Gabriel must have some viaible sperm if it is being used for the AI, so the baby may be a product of one of his Viagra couplings . .
I really don't get Mirna either. Since none of the more fluent Spanish speaking recappers on here are weighing in on this one I'm winging some of my translations. Why she is such a confidant to Fern after not seeing her for like 25 years, I don't get it.
Indeed, that happened to me yesterday, which is why I copied my message and posted it as well on the current page. (It's the first message at the top of this page.)
Dondi, thanks for letting us know that your recap is on the earlier TyM page. I've now read it, and of course, it's superb!!
I don't have anything to add to what you and novelera have said. But reading your recap, I again find myself wondering about the extremely strained relationship between Hulya and Cihan. That seems so strange, especially for a mother and her first child, and especially if that child is a son. Hulya is such a perra that I'm almost positive that she is mostly to blame (though in this dizi, I'm finding it's hard to be sure of anything).
Anyway, many many thanks, dondi!
THANKS for recap!!!
so poor strung out Ana comes face to face with the devil...poor Ana..!!
Anon: Bold Prediction: Ana will be put right back in that horror of a so-called clinic & I expect Ana to get drugged up even more to the point of not talking anymore.
Kat in SC: Francisco is fucking STUPID. I mean, he is still banging Crazy Goldie Locks & WTF is Mirna doing ? Sitting on her lazy ass doing nothing about Crazy Goldie Locks, who is increasing a growing Body Count 24/7.
Aslan doesn’t kill Serhat, and the cops take him away, but not before Aslan threatens him if/when he gets out of jail. Those cement shoes will be waiting for him. Eko has been watching the happenings from afar.
Devin tells Yagmur that Serhat was arrested. She adds the press won’t find out anything. Yagmur thinks Devin arranged this to avoid embarrassment. Devin tries to explain, and then she suggests they go out dancing in the evening. [who else thought this was a bad idea?]
Cemre tries to give Hulya advice on how to handle Seher. Hulya blows her off.
Hulya is still nagging Cihan to get Serhat out of the country.
Leyla doesn’t feel well. Cemre asks her if she’s told her family. Not yet, but she started to tell Tolga and stopped. She’s decided her family would be more supportive if they didn’t know. She’s spent her life caring for others and not herself.
Cemre tells Leyla to lie back and think of the last time she felt good about being Leyla. In Cihan’s old house, she replies, it was our secret sanctuary. We hid under a blanket and watched movies. Played video games. Good times. Now we barely get along. Cemre asks, what happened to that house? It’s still there, Leyla says.
Aslan and Hulya take Seher for a stroll. Seher confuses him with that infeliz Nedret’s son. Hulya isn’t happy that Aslan involved the cops. Aslan figures that Hulya will post bail for Serhat and help him escape.
Ati texts Ceylan—let’s meet. She’ll try.
Devin texts Aslan with the suggestion to take Yagmur out.
Hulya asks Aslan to stay for dinner. He wants Devin and Yagmur to come. Hulya objects to having Yagmur come. It’s immoral. [pot, kettle, black.] Aslan calls her out—she doesn’t mind living in luxury and ignoring how it was accumulated. He sticks up for Devin and Yagmur.
Night on the town and Yagmur is out of control. She’s drunk and being a nuisance to other patrons. Devin tries to get Yagmur to slow down. I don’t know why she let it go this far. Aslan isn’t concerned at all. He says let little sis have fun.
Devin asks Aslan, where’s Eko? Aslan says he’s sick and couldn’t come out.
Police station interview room. A lawyer, Ibo, Cihan meet with Serhat. What’s the plan, Serhat asks. My Dad can’t know. He’d disown me. Ibo says don’t worry; we will handle it. We will change the forensic report. We’ll get you out, but then you will have to worry about Aslan.
Would he kill me over a slut, Serhat asks. He’s capable of that and more, Cihan answers. We won’t permit that, Ibo says. We plan for you to leave until things have cooled off. Cihan will get you abroad soon as you’re released.
Eko looks at Serhat’s social media account. He makes a call. He wants an account hacked, fast.
Cihan gives Serhat instructions and a bullet proof vest. There will be a car waiting outside and you’ll go to the Black Sea, to Romania. Then you can go wherever you please.
Yagmur is very drunk, and Devin decides it’s time to leave.
Outside the station, Ibo wants assurance that Cihan will get the job done. Relax, Cihan replies, your partnership won’t be ruined. And my mother won’t lose her only son. We see Isko recording them.
Yagmur starts an argument with Devin outside the club. She accuses Devin of being ashamed of her. Devin is perfect, Yagmur is a lying whore! We see a guy recording this. Yagmur blames Devin for never looking out for her. For being like dad. [Is she Devin’s responsibility?] Yagmur’s tirade goes on too long for me.
Aslan sees the guy recording and destroys the phone. With this distraction, Yagmur jumps in a cab and leaves. Aslan tells Turgut to take Devin to Nese’s house. Yagmur might have gone there. He’s got something else to attend to. Aslan gets in a cab. He finds Yagmur outside her father's house.
Yagmur tells Aslan she tried to talk to her father, but he turned her away. Ergun and fam look out the window at Aslan and Yagmur. The wife tells him to make them leave. The neighbors will see.
Ergun confronts the two. Yagmur begs him to hear her out. He’s cruel to her. Aslan tells Yagmur, let’s go home. Ergun insults Aslan. He refers to him as a mafioso. Aslan asks for respect. Ergun pushes it, what will you do? Beat me? Kill me? Leave or I’m calling the police. Yagmur keeps begging. He says, you’re not part of my family.
Aslan pulls the bastard aside. Calls him a terrible father, a despicable man who doesn’t deserve to be happy. Don’t worry, Yagmur has a family now, he says. I’m part of it, so is Devin. She will never need you again. Go. Aslan gives Yagmur a hug. Devin arrives. Family hug. Devin apologizes to Yagmur. Forgive me, I love you. I’ll listen. Sister hug.
Fam goes out for soup. Yagmur thanks Aslan for being there.
Eko has spent the night in his car. He gets a message from the hacker. He sees the video of Yagmur dealing with a customer.
Devin asks Aslan how he knew Yagmur would go to their father’s house. In these cases, they all run to their “verdugo”. Devin wonders if she should tell Nese. Aslan doesn’t think so. Lol. Aslan tells Devin she has garlic breath from the soup.
Aslan gets a message from Isko: Cihan will get Serhat out tonight. He keeps this from Devin. He tells her Serhat will go before the DA. He will probably be locked up for a few days.
Aysel is pissed that Hulya called her a prostitute. Cihan tells her to ignore it. He remembers she had something to tell him. She claims she forgot what it was. Cihan leaves and Aysel looks at her sonogram.
Leyla texts Aslan. Meet me at Cihan’s old house, it’s important.
Eko confronts Aslan. He’s furious because Aslan turned in Serhat after he promised to make him pay. Eko knows everything. He asks Aslan for an explanation. Trust me, Aslan says, you need a little more patience. I give my word. He hugs Eko.
Cihan shows up at the old house. Aslan arrives a few seconds later. Surprise! Leyla says, I ask that we please make a truce just for today. I really need this. Brothers agree. They open some wine. Play video games. It gets a bit uneasy when Leyla leaves the room.
Ceylan and Yagmur have a video call. Hulya interrupts and wants her phone. I think she says something nasty about Yagmur. Devin hears. She ends the call from Yagmur’s side.
Devin calls Hulya. She’s upset by what she heard. She asks Hulya, how rotten is your soul? You feed off other people’s pain! How do you live with yourself? If protecting my family is evil, Hulya replies, then I’m very evil. If you’d protected your sister you wouldn’t… Go ahead, Devin says, finish your sentence. You’re clueless, Hulya says, there will be blood and it will be because of your sister and her actions. If you lose your husband, you will mourn and move on, but I can’t live without my son.
Devin fires back, nothing will happen to your son. Serhat will get what he deserves and pay for his crime. Hulya replies, if Serhat goes to prison, there will be war. I’ll do all I can to stop it. Devin doesn’t understand. I’ll be a monster if it means protecting my family, Hulya explains, that’s the difference between you and me.
And we are out.
Wow, dondi, thanks VERY much for this very helpful recap of Thursday's episode. It made me realize how much I'd missed while watching it.
A number of things still puzzle me. When Leyla tells Cemre that the last time she was happy was years ago, in Cihan's old house, where they had good times. "Now we barely get along." I was expecting that Cemre might ask her what soured the relationship between Cihan and her. Instead, Cemre asks what happened to the house. Huh??
Did Eko think he'd find evidence of what Serhat did to Yagmur in his social media account? I can't imagine keeping something like that in a social media account.
I was much relieved when Aslan destroyed the phone of the guy who was recording Yagmur.
Yes, I agree, first Yagmur's drunken behavior at the place where people were dancing went on too long, and then so too did her tirade against Devin. I can understand why Yagmur may be so troubled, given her parents, but....
(Actually, what I understand less is how Devin emerged so relatively sane, given the same parents.)
Dondi, I realize that you'll be doing the recap for tonight's episode as well. That will make three in a row. I don't know how you do it, and do it so splendidly. MANY THANKS!!
Kat in SC: Looking forward to seeing your recap of last night's episode.
Steve, There was no episode last night. It's a shame because I like the Friday recap night the best as I'm not as rushed and don't have to wake up as early on the weekend.
Dondi, thanks for the recap. Cihan saying Hulya would lose her only son made me wonder if Cihan is Hulya's stepson. Perhaps a bastard son. I'm sure more will come out about the family history, it seems they want to give us only bits at a time. That would certainly explain her lack of love towards him, although in a prior episode he craved a hug from his mother ( or did he say Hulya in that episode)?
Since I watched this last night I got the English subtitles. I think in that one Aslan told Devin that the victim always returns to the abuser about how he knew where to find Yagmur. I wonder if more is going on there. The father told his son Yagmur is not your sister when son admitted Yagmur called to see if Dad was home and he said yes. Could Nese have cheated on the dad in one of her bipolar episodes. I would never condone his treatment of them, but perhaps he also had his reasons for leaving. Living with a bipolar person is extremely difficult, especially if they go off their meds.
Donde, thank you for devoting so much time, effort, and talent to bring us another fabulous recap of the unfolding drama .
It looks like Cihan and Aslan are going to unite . it was sweet seeing the three fractured siblings spending time together away from their controlling mother.
Wow, this show gets darker and grimmer .
I feel sorry for strong, silent alpha male Aslan who now is dealing with Devin's dysfunctional relatives in addition to his own problem filled family members . His minions certainly seem to be totally devoted to him.and treat him more like a beloved brother than a boss. Susan
Gracias for Thursday's epi, Dondi. Always a treat.
This struck me: "Seher confuses him [Aslan] with that infeliz Nedret’s son." Earlier, Seher thought Aslan was Cihan. Now she's confused him for Nedret's son. My crockpot theory is that Nedret [whoever he is/was] could be Aslan's true biodad, especially since Hulya has said Yusuf didn't love her.
I get that Yagmur is in a bad place and lashing out at the person closest to her and Devin is doing her best to comfort her. That said, I'm agreeing with Hulya of all people -- it's Aslan whom Devin needs to worry about. Messing with Serhat the son of a powerful mafioso ain't no joke.
a subtle point, as Hulya worries that if they kill Serhat Koruzade, his godfather like dad, Ilyaz, will be forced to kill her Soykan son, but Cihan implies he will sacrifice himself as the son to be killed, don't worry mom.
Isn't Nedret the sister that Hulya hates? Is she Yusuf's sister? I am getting confused.
We still don't know why Hulya hates,Cihan. Susan
Thanks, everyone. Wed and Thur were quick recaps, so I passed over some details.
Juanita, Eko asked a hacker to get into an account. I don’t know much about social media accounts or how they link to a user’s data. They needed a way for Eko to find out about Yagmur’s escort days. Eko saw Serhat was arrested. I guess he put it together.
There was a small edit: Aslan paid the guy after he destroyed the phone. He peeled off a few hundreds from his fold. Bad guys in TNs and dizis always seem to have US dollars on hand.
Kat, I also wonder what’s really going on with Hulya and Cihan. A stepson? I think Susan mentioned he could be Ibo’s. Ergun’s wife told her son that Yagmur isn’t his sister. Can’t be sure if that’s literally the case, but who knows. You could be right about Nese. And it doesn't excuse Ergun’s abuse.
Susan, I’d like to see Aslan and Cihan unite. Unfortunately, when/if that happens, I think Cihan will be a goner. I’ve seen too many dizis. I hope this is different. I feel more sympathy for Cihan than I do for Aslan.
Niecie, Nedret is an aunt. And no one likes her.
deb, glad you're sticking around on the patio. I welcome clarifications.
BTW, the actor who plays Ilyas will be familiar to those who saw Fatmagul. He played Resat Yasaran, the father of one of the rapists, uncle of another one.
Friday recap coming shortly.
Aslan and Devin (ship #asdev) prepare dinner. Devin tells him she had a lovely chat [not] with Hulya this morning. She was angry that Serhat was in jail. She’s all bark and no bite. I ignored her nasty speech. Aslan says nothing.
The lawyer, Suat, hands Serhat a bag and Serhat changes into his getaway gear in the bathroom. Suat makes one last appeal to let him handle the case. Serhat refuses. He says the Soykans handled everything. Suat worries, if there is a problem, Ilyas bey will kill us. I have to call your father.
Serhat dares Suat to call Ilyas. Go ahead and tell him about the money we stole from him. Go ahead, do it! Suat takes a breath and changes his mind. Before Serhat leaves, Suat says he will message him when he’s out at sea. Respond and let me know you’re okay. If you don’t answer, I’ll know you’re dead. Serhat calls him paranoid. [I think Suat is right to worry and Serhat is a dope.]
Cihan gets a call from Hulya asking if Serhat’s been taken yet. Cihan says he’s about to do it. He doesn’t trust anyone else. Hulya tells him to stay with Serhat until he’s sure everything is fine. Will do, he replies.
Change of subject. Cihan says he knows why she sent him to Devin. You did it so I would continue to do your dirty work for you, right? There’s something you should know. Do you know what I dream of sometimes? I dream that you want me to get better. That you think I need treatment, so I won’t end up like dad. I think about that and that’s why you sent me to Devin. It’s a nice dream. [keep dreaming, Cihan, your mother is a cold-hearted witch.] Hulya answers, just stay with him till you’re sure it’s fine.
Serhat gets into Cihan’s car.
Devin gets a call from her lawyer and finds out Serhat was released. Devin goes crazy—there were only minor injuries?! Yagmur is standing by the kitchen door and listens. Devin shouts, was he released so he can kill my sister?! Yagmur asks what happened. Was he released? Is that murderer free? Yagmur leaves the room.
Devin looks at Aslan who is calmly frying fish. Do you have anything to say, she asks. Aslan tells her the forensic report was changed and now it says Yagmur sustained minor injuries. Coupled with the fact his primary residence is here, employment is here, it was decided he could be released.
Devin shouts that this was his mother’s doing. She had him released! She kept her word! That woman is diabolical! [patio agrees!] Aslan remains silent, and that adds fuel to Devin’s fire. Your mother interfered and had that bastard released! Say something!
Aslan says it could have been Serhat’s father. Who knows. That doesn’t matter. What matters is he was released. Are we going to wait until he leaves the country, Devin asks. Will you let him get away because of your mother? Will you answer my questions!!
To answer, I’ll ask you one of my own, he responds. I’ll ask you one last time. Do you think people like him… deserve to live? Devin notices a fly on the cabinet. She takes a roll of paper towels, squashes it, and walks away. Aslan remembers telling Serhat that Devin wouldn’t harm a fly. But she’ll get used to it.
Aslan sends a text to Cihan, “devam”, continue. Serhat complains from the backseat of Cihan’s car, look at what we have to do because of a whore. If I didn’t have to keep this from my father, I’d know what to do to Aslan. Tell him that. Serhat remembers and he asks Cihan if he’s still not speaking with Aslan. Cihan replies, no, we’re not speaking.
Flashback to the reunion at Cihan’s old house. Leyla’s left the room, and the brothers are playing the video game. Aslan says, ignoring cruelty is to betray the oppressed. Cihan nods, that’s what dad used to say. Aslan says, I was talking to mom while I was out with Grandma. I reminded her of what Dad used to say. She replied, “you and your brother memorized your father’s words.”
Aslan is sure that Hulya asked Cihan for help. She asked you to erase the security footage, he says. She asked you to help Serhat, didn’t she? You didn’t erase that recording so I’d find it. What do we do now, brother? Is this the beginning of a new argument? Aslan looks at Cihan for his answer. What do you think, Cihan replies. Well? End flash.
Serhat is on the boat with Cihan. That idiot is still ranting about the situation, his father. He wants to make it clear that he’s not the type to run away [but you are, Serhat, you are on this boat! Apologies to Bette Davis.] Turgut and Isko appear.
Serhat realizes he’s been set up [too bad, so sad.] And Eko appears with large piece of wood. He smashes Serhat in the head. He falls. Serhat’s phone drops, too. Eko shows no mercy and Serhat’s blood spatters all over Eko’s face. Meanwhile, Aslan has his fish dinner in the kitchen, alone. He looks at the squashed fly on the cabinet.
Serhat’s phone rings, it’s his Dad.
Devin asks Aslan why he asked her that question again. Do people like that deserve to live? She realizes that something is going on. A noise from the other room distracts Devin and she gets up… Yagmur?
Serhat is bagged and fitted with cement shoes. Isko washed the blood from the boat. Eko just stands there, with blood still on his face. Turgut goes to get a tool and a message from Suat comes up on Serhat’s phone: how are you, Serhat? Turgut replies: we’re on our way, Suat bey, don’t worry. Cihan spots Turgut with the phone. Turgut tells him Serhat’s lawyer texted and how he answered. Cihan calls Turgut an idiot. Do you think he addresses his lawyer as “bey”.
Suat gets the message and realizes that Serhat is dead and he’s probably next.
Cihan calls Suat. He asks if Suat has spoken to Serhat. Drop the act you bastard, Suat replies, I know you killed him! Cihan tells Suat to calm down. Suat is frantic. Ilyas will kill me and then he will destroy you! Cihan assures him this won’t happen as long as he keeps quiet.
Suat demands protection from Ilyas. Okay, Cihan replies, tell me where you are. Do you think I’m stupid, Suat answers, I want 10 million dollars! You have 12 hours! Tell Aslan when time is up, Ilyas Koruzade will crush you!
Yagmur is hysterical over Serhat’s release. Aslan gets a text from Cihan: we have a problem, I’m outside. Yagmur fears Serhat will come and finish her off. Aslan says that won’t happen. He leaves the room. Devin tries to calm Yagmur.
Cihan brings Suat’s message to Aslan and adds, the lawyer needs to die. Aslan says they are about to sign a 10 million contract with Ilyas. If he can’t reach his lawyer before we sign, he’ll be suspicious. Since when do you care about money, Cihan asks, greed will be the end of this country and our family.
Money isn’t the problem, Aslan replies, I’m worried about Ilyas. The longer he’s in the dark about Serhat, it’s better for us. Cihan says he sent Serhat’s phone to Thailand. The phone signal and credit card usage will come from there. Talk to Yagmur and have her recant her statement. Figure it out. Suat is a fool. He’s scared and we don’t know what he’ll do. I’ll find him. Aslan says, let me know. Devin is listening.
What’s done is done, Aslan says, we did what we had to do. Serhat was a coward who deserved to die. You know Ilyas, Cihan says, if he learns we did this, he’ll burn the world. Aslan says that Cihan need not get involved. Cihan laughs, this isn’t just about you and me. It’s about the family. Mom, Leyla, Ceylan, Devin, Yagmur… there’s a war coming. There will be bloodshed. Devin hears all of this.
Hulya calls Cihan. Aslan says to let her think the job was done, and I’ll protect the family. The men realize Devin has heard everything. Cihan leaves. Devin goes back inside. Aslan calls out to her. [maybe Devin shouldn’t have squashed that fly.]
Cihan answers Hulya’s call. He tells her everything is ok. She asks, does anyone beside the lawyer know? Cihan doesn’t think so.
Devin thinks about what she heard. “A war is coming, there will be bloodshed.” Aslan tells Devin to relax. Forget what you heard. She wants to know if Serhat is dead. He says to trust him, it’s under control. She demands an answer. Aslan finally shouts, he at the bottom of the Black Sea! He adds, but everything is fine. [Lol.] We just have to stay at the estate for a while. A precaution.
Devin asks, how dangerous is Ilyas Koruzade? Very dangerous, Aslan replies. She asks, if he finds out you killed his son? He won’t, Aslan says, forget what you heard. She says it’s impossible to forget. Kendini gel (come to your senses), Aslan tells her, it’s fine. I have it under control. This has nothing to do with you.
You asked if I thought people like that deserved to live, Devin realizes, this is why. My silence was enough. You didn’t do it because I kept quiet, did you? She asks again. Tell me. I killed a bug! How was I supposed to know you’d kill a man? He assures her this isn’t her fault.
Devin searches for info on Ilyas Koruzade and finds a video report. Narrator: He’s from Adana and is also known as “Kara Ilyas” (Black Ilyas). He’s made large investments with money earned from drugs and online gambling. He’s known to have worked with Yusuf and Ibrahim Soykan. This allowed the Soykans to gain their status. He currently lives in Romania and runs the illegal gambling business there.
Ilyas gave an interview after his nephew’s murder: “only God decides whether we live or die. We don’t decide. We’ve suffered and bled and now they will suffer too.”
Narrator continues. The incident known as the Sancaktepe Execution occurred days after the interview. Ilyas was tried for attempted murder. He left the country immediately after the attack and avoided sentencing. Back to the interview: reporter asks, isn’t justice better? No, Ilyas replies, we must shed blood. If our family bleed, yours will too. Ilyas has refused to speak to journalists since then.
Aslan enters the room and tells her to stop investigating. Devin starts with the accusations. You knew he’d get out, that your mother would release him. Aslan asks her to drop the topic. She continues, you were waiting like a predator. You wanted to teach me a lesson. “Life isn’t like that.” That’s why you did it, right?
Yagmur walks into this. What’s going on? Nothing, Aslan replies, pack your bags. We’re staying at the estate for a while. He gives her no explanation. Are you sure Hulya is okay with that, she asks. Devin shouts, she will be! She caused this mess! Aslan tells Yagmur no more questions. Do what I ask. Yagmur pushes. Devin blurts—Serhat is dead! Yagmur is stunned.
Ceylan is thrilled that Yagmur is staying at the estate.
Aslan gives orders for extra security.
Hulya shows up and asks what is she (Yagmur) doing here? Devin snaps, you know my sister’s name, Yagmur. Easy to remember. Hulya asks, are you afraid because Serhat was released? [Turkish] Don’t be afraid and thank me. [“dua et” she told Devin she should offer a prayer.] I’m between you, otherwise, Serhat would finish the job. Devin informs her, Serhat had to leave his work unfinished. You’ll get the news soon.
Hulya makes a beeline for Aslan. What happened to Serhat? Calm down and take a breath, Aslan tells her. She can’t be calm. What happened to Serhat?! Aslan shouts in her face—He’s dead! He’s at the bottom of the sea and the fish are feasting on him.
What did you do, panicked Hulya asks. I did nothing, Aslan replies. My SIL was attacked, and you didn’t do anything. Well, I care. Can’t you see that we will lose power if everyone thinks they can attack us? Hulya is worried about the coming war. One of us could die! You could die! For that whore?!
Yagmur, Aslan warns, her name is Yagmur. Yagmur is family, Devin’s sister. If something like this happened to a Soykan, how would the culprit be punished? Hulya is silent. Ceylan, Tolga, and Leyla have been standing by. What are you looking at, Aslan says, don’t provoke me! Is this the first time you hear about death? Dad was no angel!
Hulya calls Cihan and rips into him about his “betrayal”. Cihan plays dumb. She shouts, don’t deny that you killed him, you useless fool! Cihan sighs, don’t insult me, mom. I’m not 13 anymore. I only did what you asked. If Aslan meddled, you should talk to him.
Hulya is furious. If Ilyas finds out we killed his son… Cihan interjects, then I will be the one who dies. Don’t worry, nothing will happen to your Aslan. If anyone in this family must die it will be me. [he’s said this too often for my liking.] Hulya is beside herself. She wipes stuff off a table.
Tolga speaks with his blackmailer. He’s trying to get the money. Don’t do this. The blackmailer sends him a video reminder. You have until tomorrow. [who cares about this loser, anyway?]
Hulya orders the help to give Yagmur the smallest room in the house.
Hulya makes a call. We need to talk, it’s important. She leaves the house.
Turgut and Eko show up. Aslan’s not happy with Turgut’s blunder. He asks Eko if he’s okay. Eko says yes, and they have Kaya’s circumcision outfit.
Aslan tells Leyla they should postpone the party. What will we tell the guests, she asks. That we want a private family only celebration, he replies. She agrees.
Yagmur watches from a window. Eko stares back at her. Aslan wants to talk with Eko.
Cihan has found the lawyer. He texts Aslan.
Edit: Aslan advises Eko to either forget Yagmur’s past or put an end to it now. Eko doesn’t want to end things, he loves Yagmur very much, she is his everything. Then talk to her, Aslan says, open a new page and forget the past. End edit.
Eko asks, that bastard was Ilyas’ son, what will we do? Aslan says that’s not Eko’s business. It’s a personal matter. I did this, Eko replies, I’m not leaving you alone in it. What do I have to do? Aslan answers, if it was just me, I’d call Ilyas and say, “your son wanted to die, so I helped him out.” Let’s see who kills who next. Face me and let’s fight like men. But I can’t do that because of them (the family).
Aslan continues, I have so many to support. I’ve been trying 5 years not to become my father. If I turn into my father, we will see hell on Earth. This house and family will be destroyed. So, stop asking me questions. He walks to his car. Turgut asks where he’s going. Aslan snaps, to clean up the mess you made yesterday!
Yagmur is taken to a small spare room. Devin objects. Yagmur doesn’t want to make waves. Devin insists that her sister get a better room. If Hulya asks, tell her that this was Devin Hanım’s order.
Cihan enters Suat’s hideaway. The lawyer tries to escape but is met with Aslan, who gives him a headbutt. Suat tells the men they are making a big mistake. Sooner or later Ilyas will find out. Are you stupid, Aslan asks, are you threatening us? What do you think is going to happen? Aslan has papers. He tells Suat, you’re going to sign this contract. And then what, Suat asks.
There’s a noise from another room. Aslan and Cihan investigate. A whimpering sound comes from a wardrobe. Aslan is ready to shoot. Cihan stops him. A woman is hiding in there. Suat’s wife.
Cihan gives the woman some water. Suat shouts from the other room, Buket! Are you okay? Aslan tells him to shut up. Aslan introduces himself to Buket. He apologizes. We didn’t know you were here. If we had known, we wouldn’t have approached like this. We… wouldn’t hurt you. We won’t hurt you. I promise. Now I have to talk to your husband. We’ll take you somewhere safe, okay?
Aslan returns to Suat. He says, we’re bad guys but we wouldn’t shoot a woman. But Ilyas will. What will he do after he learns of his son’s murder? He’ll destroy you but that won’t be enough. He’ll go after your wife. Let’s talk. Here’s the contract. We’re going to sign it. Tomorrow, we’ll get our money and I’ll do you a favor in return. You and your wife will be free to go. You’ll never see me or Ilyas again.
Suat wants assurance that Ilyas won’t be able to find them. Aslan replies, I’ll hide you so well that you won’t even know where you are. Do we have a deal? The men shake on it.
Hulya visits Ibo. They have pics of Suat and Buket. Hulya tells him they both have to be silenced. Ibo tells her he doesn’t kill women. Hulya replies, you said that 45 years ago too, but what happened after that? That’s why Yusuf paid the price for his family those years ago. Now there is no Yusuf. You’re here. You will do what’s necessary.
Suat speaks with Ilyas. He wants to know why Suat wasn’t answering his phone. Battery died. Ilyas asks, did Serhat message you to say he’d gone to Thailand? Suat plays dumb—didn’t he tell you? Ilyas says Serhat was supposed to sign the sale with Aslan. Yes, Suat replies, but he gave me a POA before he left. I can sign if you want. Ilyas gives his okay.
Suat fills Aslan and Cihan in. He’s got the POA and can sign. The problem is the paperwork is in the safe in Serhat’s office. The safe can only be opened with Serhat’s fingerprint.
And we are out.
Donde, thank you for a great recap with all the grizzly details . I really don't like mafia shows, but I can't stop watching this novela and reading the captivating recaps.
Aslan is so calm and collected most of he time in his long brown overcoat . In fact , wardrobe always has him in earth tones. ..browns, tans, golds. He is often shown calmly cooking or eating. I always notice the wardrobe choices for characters .
Aslan is now caught in between two formidable women , the devil and the deep blue sea ...where, by the way, awful Serhat is. Poor Aslan.
Uh oh ,nasty Resat from Fatmagul is sure to be a scary addition to this story.
Having everyone in that house is going to be....hmmm...interesting. Susan
Many thanks, dondi, for yet another terrific recap.
So in addition to being a murderer and a woman beater, Serhat was also a thief, having joined with Suat in stealing money from his father, Ilyas. Bye bye, Serhat. Goodbye and good riddance.
Dondi, at one point you say that "Serhat’s phone rings, it’s his Dad." I didn't remember this. The only call I recall Serhat's phone getting was the one from the lawyer, which Turgut stupidly answered, thereby letting Suat know that since Serhat hadn't answered it, Serhat was dead. Was there also an earlier call from Ilyas?
Wow! Another important edit that Telemundo cut, this one involving Eko, and Aslan's advice to him. Thanks VERY much for including it!
Aslan claims he's been trying for 5 years not to become his father. Since Aslan seems to have few qualms about having Serhat killed and others as well, how is he trying not to be his father? Just that he won't commit suicide?
Hmmm...I wonder whether Aslan will hire a diver to find Serhat's body and cut off his hand, so they can open his safe with his required fingerprint. Seems rather unlikely, but in this dizi, lots of things seem unlikely.
One very LIKELY thing we on the patio have come to count on are your fantastic recaps, dondi! Again, many thanks!
Gracias, Dondi. Fine recap.
"Family" earned its 10 pm time slot last night. Sad seeing Eco, who'd been like a big puppy up till now, with a blood-splattered face. Can he return to his old self after this? And where is the real puppy?
Whatever thorn is between them, Cihan and Aslan seem to be working hand in hand now. In my view, it's Ibo who's the menace.
Thanks so much, dondi, for this recap and for Thursdays as well. I really, really needed the recap of last night's show. Telemundo had one of those horrible nights, at least on my TV, where the captions were bad. That was the case for some bizarre reason during the very last scene of El Conde the whole way through. The captions appear on the left side of the screen and appear slowly, a bit behind the actors' actual speech. I guess I did some lipreading during the earlier show since that delayed caption didn't bother me. But...last night the whole episode had the captions appearing at the left side of the screen, scrolling slowly and about 4 or 5 words at a time. Maddening. Before this the captions have been correctly at the bottom of the screen and fast, at the actual speed of the actors' speech. Don't know if anyone else had this phenomenon.
OK, enough griping. I didn't notice the cement shoes, only the plastic wrapped body. I wondered why they'd bother wrapping him. Seems like it would be more convenient to give the fish easier access and have the body disappear faster.
I'm actually softening a bit toward Tolga. Pretty sure he was railroaded into marrying Leyla, just as she was. And his sexual fetish makes him into a victim. If that video does surface, Hulya will probably castrate him.
The party for circumcision sent me to Mr. Google. My son's was done immediately at the hospital; that's how they rolled then. I worked for a man who had two sons born during my tenure. His wife did not want them circumcised. I think that may be a more recent development.
Something that was mentioned last night surprised me. I gathered that the Koruzades were a big deal before the Soykans and may have helped them grow. I am surely intrigued with what Hulya said about 45 years ago.
I am also worried about Cihan's survival. I'm completely on his side now and can't bear the way his mother treats him. Maybe he is a stepson, although I don't think so.
Dondi, your recap gave me the "aha" moment. I was confused about the contract Aslan and Suat were discussing and now realize it was the one they were supposed to sign at that fish restaurant, at least that's what Serhat thought would happen. Diving for Serhat's body? Maybe.
I can't wait for Nedret to appear and hope she's Hulya's verdugo.
Novelera, I am sure that Nedret will stir the pot when she arrives on the scene. The actress was a bitter itch in " Hercai." Her scenes with crabby, cranky Hulya are sure to be epic. Susan
