Finally finished Wednesday's show. Thank you, Niecie, for starting. Great comments by everyone.

Juanita, I’m also very curious about Serap and Ilyas, and I’ll add Cihan to that mix. They’ve been slightly editing some of the conversations between Serap, Ilyas and Kiymet. I have some issues with translations, too.

In the Turkish, Kiymet didn’t like Serap “defending” Cihan. She told Ilyas that Cihan is not to be trusted. He will betray. She was sorting rice at the table. But I get the feeling she’d like to serve Cihan beans instead. Serap claims she wants Cihan around for work reasons, but that’s not all.

I noted Serap’s look when Cihan said [Turkish] “some fathers deserve to die”. We saw the flashback when Cihan put moves on her and she slapped him and cursed him. Beth S, I also had a terrible thought that Serap was abused by her father when he was drunk on rakı. Not sure if the Turks would go there, though. Just like the “relationship” between Leyla and Cemre. Too bad this wasn’t a Netflix dizi.

Right now, I care the least about Devin and Aslan’s relationship. They are annoying me.

"VENGANZA" HIGHLIGHTS DISCUSSION
Kat in SC: Looking forward to seeing your recap of tonight's upcoming episode.
PS: Would burst out laughing if they do some musical remix of Thurl Ravenscroft like this: "You're the devil incarnate, Fernanda Rios."

fam2

I will do another brief recap tonight.

OT, Steve, I have no idea who Thurl Ravenscroft is.

I found out a few interesting tidbits reading a Spanish People magazine article. I discussed the move to midnight showings and that the viewers are mad about it. Now since it was written in Spanish I kinda just glanced over it but I have a fear this has 95 episodes! It was in production 5 months, or is. Maybe that is how many are in the can to date. I also discovered our villain Alonso in real life has been dating the actress playing Erika for the past 5 months. Since I had no show to watch or recap this afternoon I went on a fishing expedition about the series. I'm not sure I have 95 recaps in me!!!!! Especially with Christmas coming up. They better finish the series though. There is nothing worse than getting vested in a story then they shut it down!

#35 Ibo and Hulya and later Aslan and Devin learn that their chance to blame Tolga for the money laundering died when he did.

Eko brings Yagmur home. She turns him down once again, mentioning her fictitious boyfriend. Right in front of her he calls his mother agreeing to meet the woman his family has chosen.

The police come to arrest Leyla. Aslan and Devin pull up and try to comfort her. Serap and Cihan are looking on nearby. Serap is as heartless as she was as Asu, the last time I saw her. Cihan loves his not-bio sister and says Serap will spring her, or he’ll bring the whole thing down around the Koruzades' ears.

Devin is comforting the children, saying ALL the right things when Hulya takes them away. She says she’s their mother, father, and psychologist. She threatens Devin’s life if she interferes.

Leyla is imprisoned in one of those Turkish dorm rooms. It’s said she’s a flight risk, so no bail.

Devin comes to see Leyla. Leyla sobs desperately and begs Devin to take her children. She shows Devin a drawing, I think made by one of the kids, in which there’s no Leyla…only Devin.

Hulya sees the lack of a ring on Aslan’s finger and smiles discreetly. He tells her he knows she’s happy. She’s happy he’s getting a divorce; Leyla is in prison, and she has her grandchildren. Aslan says he’ll save the children from her.

Iskoc tells Aslan that Serap met with some estadounidenses (Americans) to set up a deal to save her father, getting him out of Turkey with a new passport. Iskoc will work on the reason for all this. Aslan looks murderous and says he’ll smoke him out.

Aslan starts with a good PR speech to some press guys who’ve come to Casa Soykan. After the niceties, he says that Tolga was involved in the plot against the family and then killed to prevent its coming to light. He talks about the shameless dishonorable Cihan, Serap Koruzade, and her father Ilyas Koruzade. He insists Ilyas is alive. He challenges the authorities to go dig up the place to find that Koruzade is not there. Aslan says he’ll try to leave the country. He calls him a coward and says that he’ll probably run like a rat. Increasingly enraged, Ilyas shoots his mother’s television.

Devin has the cab turn around, shows up at Casa Soykan and waves to Kaya and Zeynep, who are on a balcony.

Aslan has started to talk about the problems in his marriage when Devin walks in and finishes his sentence. She said they had decided to divorce. Then she sits beside him to say they’ve reconciled. She gives him his ring back.

How I love to see Hulya’s face when she loses!

Devin later tells Aslan that she’ll stay only until Layla is free. Aslan says something about ashes, and I’m pretty sure he’s thinking there’s a spark he can ignite.

OT:
Kat in SC: Thurl Ravenscroft was the person, who sung 'You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch' in the movie 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'.

Venganza

This will be a short one. I didn't understand a lot of the dialogue and I haven't the patience or time to try and figure out business type talk.

Of course Adelberto and Eugenio are in alt because he's the true del Pino. I think they keep taunting Alfredo with a derogatory bastard term. Pretty sure they are now going after the entire company, and will search out any offshore assets as well.

Tania did hire some sort of escort to get back at Alonso. Mirna tries to reason with her, with as much success as she has had with Fernanda. The escort hasn't shown up yet so no idea what she hopes to accomplish.

Brenda told her mom about her infidelity with Alonso, and the paternity of the lost baby. She loves Gabriel still, but will divorce him. Daddy doesn't know and she wants to keep him in the dark. Mom agrees.

Marcelo returns to Mexico but warns Francisco about Fernanda again. Even if she was manipulated by Eugenio that in no way excuses her murder of your grandmother. Francisco agrees with him but we all know he has no willpower when met with her temptations.

Ana counsels Claudia to tell Erika about her drug situation, she loves her and will help her.

Paty treats Alfredo to a striptease act in his office to cheer him up. FF

I think Elisa is sticking by Roberto now, but maybe only for his recuperation. If he redeems himself I guess he could be a love interest for Ana. Spouse swapping in this TN seems to be it's m.o.

Sebastian was talking to someone, Gabriel perhaps. He has found out about Brenda's affair with Alonso. He alluded to the fact that he would kill anyone who messed with his wife, I think..... Another convo I didn't follow.

It seems there was a typical cliffhanger final scene, but I can't recall it at all. I woke up at 4:30 and watched the episode so I as barely awake.

Venganza
One other thing I recalled. Fernanda has hired, or talks with another pi, I think this is the one Eugenio used. He tells her her child did live for a short time but then died. I doubt Fernanda will believe this lie, but who knows.

OT

Oh, great. My venganza recap got gobbled up. Help Juanita!!

Kat, at first I couldn't find the recap, but I finally did! It's now up.

fam2

Many thanks, novelera, for providing this short but helpful recap. I can't think of anything important that you left out.

Well, I like Eko more than I like Yagmur. I realize that he's in love with her, and the chances are that somehow the two of them will wind up together.
I guess that's better than entering into an arranged marriage with someone you don't care for, but perhaps the writers will surprise us, and Eko's mother's choice will turn out to be a good one. (Even as I write this, I doubt the mother's choice will really be The Right One.)

Hmmm...Serap tells Cihan she won't represent anyone with the name Soykan. But wasn't she briefly Devin's lawyer and someone Devin liked? Or was Devin acceptable as a client because she was reluctant to change her name? In any event, I'm surprised the usually perceptive Devin didn't recognize Serap as a hater of all things Soykan.

I hope Leyla isn't imprisoned for long. The view we had of the Turkish room that served as a holding cell showed the usual assortment of worrisome characters, especially the tall, slender woman who looks Leyla over and seems up to no good.

I think Leyla's plea that she didn't want her kids to grow up with the same awful "guard" (Hulya) and in the same "prison" that she did resonated with Devin and convinced her to help Leyla keep the kids away from their grandmother. Whether Devin will succeed or not isn't clear. Hulya is an impressively mean and resourceful opponent.

I loved the scene where Ilyas shoots at Aslan's face in the TV screen. Not once but four times! I'm hoping that indicates that he will do other stupid things that will lead to his downfall.

"VENGANZA" HIGHLIGHTS DISCUSSION
Kat in SC: Enjoyed your recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts (it'll be super short).
*Eugenio wants to go after the entire company: Once that is finished, he will eventually kill Daddy Ferrero.

*Alfredo being the bastard son LOL. More chaos inside the del Pino family as more chaos is well...... more chaos.

*Brenda planning to divorce Gabriel. Let's see how long it'll last before Gabriel finds out about that one & orders a hit on her ?

*Ana counseling Claudia to tell Erika what's going on: What could possibly go wrong ?

*Marcelo: Do NOT expect Francisco to have enough willpower to say NO to Crazy Goldie Locks' temptations.

*Patty doing striptease to Alfredo LOL. I want some Karma anvil heading towards her ASAP.

fam2

Gracias, Novelera. Super summary. Yep, it's a delight "to see Hulya’s face when she loses!"

Yikes, I never imagined that Leyla would wind up in jail.

Devin must have small handwriting to fit all those words on the little note she slipped to Aslan.

I'm wondering if Cemre is still Seher's visiting nurse. Devin will need all the allies she can get in that mansion.

I'm intrigued by the Americans, whoever they are, who agreed to help Serap get Ilyas out of Turkey.

fam2

Thanks for providing highlights, novelera.

So “all the evidence” points to Leyla. A video of her fighting with Tolga outside her house? Yes, there’s the money and jewelry he stole from her and marks on him from their fight. Did anyone notice the bruises around her neck? Did they think she brought him to the construction site all by herself?

I would have expected questioning, but an immediate arrest and arraignment? And she’s held until trial because she’s a flight risk—with two young children. Cagri isn’t a very good lawyer. The scriptwriters lost me on this. The way this episode was pieced together, I thought there might have been some significant edits, but no. Saçma.

Leyla still hasn’t told her family about her medical condition.

Now Devin stuck herself to Ass-lan and the Wicked Witch of Istanbul for the sake of Leyla’s kids.

I hope I get a better episode to recap tonight.

fam2
Novelera, many thanks for the recap.
It's hilarious that los Soykan hold so many press conferences to publicly discuss about business and family. Harry and Meghan don't even do that! Wouldn't a crime family want to stay under the radar?
Devin is cruel. She looked like she enjoyed watching Aslan fall for her "we're back together " speech and then passing him that note. She didn't need to be there at all.
Please stop with the Eko & Yagmur story. She's a non-entity.
Turgut is a great comic relief, even if deadly. Hope he survives.
I love this show!
Beth S.

Thanks, guys. [Kinda OT: John McWhorter wrote an interesting column in the Times about our usage of "guys" as a unisex term. I'm using it in his honor.]

Juanita, I have to differ. Eko's dropping the bomb about his parents' lack of approval at the actual engagement party put me in Yagmur's camp forever, not to mention her having survived Nese and Ergun as parents and staying off the drugs. And the "neener..neener" phone call in front of her, well... ITA about Leyla's desperate plea for her children motivating Devin to return to the House of Horrors.

Anyone think there's a re-do of Yusuf's portrait in the Soykan's future?

Dondi, yep, Cagri needs to go back to law school for a refresher. I now think Hulya is guilty of every single thing. Maybe she bribed a judge to keep Leyla in prison. Loved "Wicked Witch of Istanbul". Please, writers, don't have Leyla end badly. That drawing without her in it spooked me.

Beth S., I'm also over Eko and Yagmur, more over Eko than Yagmur. I also love Turgut. He and Iskoc are a perfect pair, one slender and wonky, the other chubby and a bit dim.

fam2

Eko is behaving like a child. He’s the one who ended things because of his mama. And now he’s going get himself married in a hissy fit? Whoever that future bride is, she doesn’t deserve this. Grow up, Eko, and grovel properly to get back the girl you love.

Are those Turkish prison dorms normal? It’s odd seeing them cooking in jail. Someone (Hulya) must be behind Leyla being there because of all the stuff other people have mentioned. I was hoping Cihan would snag the money to give back to Leyla but apparent that was a step too far.

And why is Aslan so set in keeping the family together when half his family sucks? Let them go. Regroup with the good ones. And maybe don’t hold press conferences because does Turkey really care about the squabbles of these two mob families? As long as they don’t get caught in the middle of a gun fight, they’re probably cool with not knowing about the Soykan.

"VENGANZA" HIGHLIGHTS DISCUSSION
Halimacandy: The only person I am interested in this Telenovela is Ana. That's it!

I'll be amazed if this has a happily ever after! Kat in SC mentioned that "VENGANZA" is supposed to be having 95 episodes.

fam2

Novelera, thank you for an excellent recap as our story swirls .

Juanita, I have watched about ten or more dizis , and , yes, whenever they show characters in prison , they are in a big room with several other inmates cooking and sharing the cramped living space . Susan

fam2 #36 part 1

Isko brings news of a smuggler who was supposed to take Tolga abroad. His name is Sansar, and he was to meet Tolga on the night he died. Aslan orders Isko to find all info on Sansar.

Hulya is all over Devin as she enters the house. Devin makes it plain, I’m here on Leyla’s behalf. As long as Leyla isn’t here, Zeynep and Kaya are under my protection. Think of me as Leyla. [as if Hulya would treat her any better.] Hulya asks for an explanation from Aslan. Enough, he shouts, Leyla will be back soon to reunite with her kids, and we won’t talk about this anymore, okay?

Cagri shows up and says an inspector is at the marina to issue a fine. The marina and the estate could be in danger. Hulya panics, what do you mean? Are we losing our home, too? Aslan leaves with Cagri. Ibo tells Hulya he will look into it as well.

Zeyno and Kaya come into the room as Hulya starts blaming Devin. Ceylan cautions her mother to calm down in front of them. This doesn’t stop Hulya from telling Devin what she did will ruin the kids’ lives. Devin quietly replies, lying is your thing. You don’t care about them… only about losing your power and control over this house.

Leyla is in the dorm, watching a report of the Soykan presser on TV. Aslan is proclaiming Leyla’s innocence. That young blonde cellmate perks up. She announces, wow, ladies, look who’s here. Leyla Soykan! An honored guest and we didn’t know.

Blondie approaches Leyla. Turns out fate isn’t about money and power, she says, because we ended up in the same place. I did the same thing as you. I killed my husband, too. But of course, I don’t have a young, handsome brother to get me out of this place. Blondie’s name is Melek, and she holds out her hand to shake. Leyla introduces herself—Leyla, just Leyla. I don’t consider myself a Soykan and I didn’t kill my husband. Melek laughs.

Ilyas is furious. He grabs Cihan by the collar and shakes him. It was you! How could they know I’m alive?! Cihan removes Ilyas’ hands. Be careful… if I betrayed you, the police would be here. Serap tells her dad to calm down, let’s not wait. The Americans… Ilyas interrupts her—don’t mention those Americans again! I’m staying in this country. I was born here, and I’ll die here! [i'm sure he'll get his wish]

Salih rushes in to say there’s trouble in the neighborhood. They saw Aslan on TV. The people are asking why you’re alive and why you abandoned them. It’s going to explode. Ilyas wants his car. He’s going to the neighborhood. Serap tries to talk him out of going. He’s adamant, he’s going, and he’ll kill anyone who gets in his way.

Cihan excuses himself to go. Serap asks, to where? I need to find a way to free Leyla, he replies, either she gets out of prison, or I go in with you. She answers, if you care so much about the Soykans, I’ll consider you one of them and I will kill you. He laughs at the death threat and responds, kolay gelsin (may it come easy/easy work).

Edit: Aslan and crew show up at the marina and the workers are outside and angry. Looks like the fine is 6 billion. Guessing that’s in TL.

Edit: Ilyas’ car enters the neighborhood and it’s pelted with eggs. The people gather around it. One man speaks, weren’t you dead? You left the neighborhood unattended. Another shouts, jackals have started showing up in the area! Ilyas and Salih get out of the car. Ilyas asks the crowd, what will you do? Shoot me? Come on! Shoot! The wolf will survive the winter! But he won’t forget the frost he had to experience. And I won’t forget this! Neither will you! Ilyas gets back in his car. The crowd is quiet.

fam2 #36 part 2

Devin hugs the children. She has a surprise for them. She has the drawing they made. She carries it with her, and she’d like to make a new one. Zeyno asks, what about mom? Will she come back? Before Devin can answer, Hulya enters the room. Your mother won’t be back for a while, she says, but I’m here. I’m your grandma and I’ll always be with you. You belong here.

Devin tries to stop her but Hulya continues. From now on, I’ll be your mother and father. Devin sends the kids out to the yard. She will meet them out there and they can play together. Devin turns to Hulya, what are you up to? They still don’t know anything about their parents.

Hulya replies, do you really want to know? I want you to stay here. I’ll make it happen. I didn’t put you in a grave or send you to prison, but I’ll put you in a mental hospital. You’ll beg to leave here. Day by day, I’ll drive you a little crazier. Devin smiles, I was born crazy but be careful or I’ll put you in a mental hospital.

Aslan and crew strategize on fixing the situation. Cagri has made calls. There’s no reduction of the fine, but the debt can be paid in installments. They agreed to 10 payments, but the problem is the value of the estate. If we don’t pay, they will take it as a form of payment. Aslan asks Isko to contact Ridvan, tell him to bring cash from Istanbul immediately. We will pay the first installment. We can’t lose the marina.

Isko asks, that’s fine for the first payment, but how will we handle the rest? Aslan says they will find a partner. Ibo scoffs, don’t be ridiculous. Who would partner with us? Aslan tells Ibo to stay out of it. He tells Cagri to draft a partnership agreement and fly to Adana.

Cut to Hulya objecting—no way! Anyone but Nedret. Are you serious? I know what I’m doing, Aslan replies, right now we have no other choice. Nedret Hala owns no business in Istanbul. She will lend the money and save the marina. It’s the only way out of this mess. Does anyone have a better idea?

That woman is a snake, Hulya says, I don’t approve. Ceylan and Ibo don’t like it either. Hulya adds, I’d rather die, than partner with her. [no comment.] Aslan shouts, enough! Seher walks by and exclaims the house is haunted.

Devin finally speaks up. The children are here, don’t shout. She asks Ceylan to take the kids to their room. Hulya takes the opportunity to blame Devin again for everything that’s happening and anything that will happen.

Ibo chimes in to blame Aslan for his poor decisions. We’ll lose all we have. We are on the verge of bankruptcy. Aslan asks him if he has a better plan. I think Ibo wants to conduct “import/export” business (dirty business) from the marina. Aslan says, let’s contact Nedret first and if that doesn't work, we’ll do it your way.

Cagri is in Adana with Nedret. She’s outdoors, stuffing vegetables along with other women. I assume the man there is Nedret’s son. Cagri calls Aslan and puts Nedret on speaker. After the polite openings, Aslan asks, has Cagri spoken to you about the partnership yet? Nedret replies, since when do strangers become our errand boys? You’re not easy to reach. He told us about becoming partners at the marina. Aslan tells her there is a small issue, but they will figure it out. That’s why he thought of this partnership.

Nedret says, all I heard was there is a problem, and you need your Auntie’s help to lift you out of it. Aslan says it’s not quite like that, I want to keep the business in the family. Nedret replies, you know what our Prophet (peace be upon him) says, be patient—the situation will turn in your favor. The Lord will see the injustice done to you. Sooner or later, their turn will come. She emphatically adds, isn’t that right, Hulya? Hulya gets up and walks away.

fam2 #36 part 3

Aslan says, if you’re not interested, we will leave it at that. I only called to keep it in the family. Nedret answers, in our family we give what is deserved. I understand you, but you’ll have to wait to get my answer. Let’s entrust it to Allah. End call.

Edit: We see there are a lot of women preparing a big meal at Nedret’s. Nedret wants Cagri to stay and have something to eat. He thanks her but asks her permission to leave. She wants him to sit and a woman gives him a plate of food. Nedret comments, you’ve become thin next to Hulya. It’s hard for you, they make a mess, and you have to clean it up. Cagri thanks her again but says he’s full. The son growls at Cagri, are you refusing to eat the food my mother cooked with her own hands? Cagri stammers. The son grabs some food and shoves it into Cagri’s mouth. Afiyet olsun. Then the son looks at the food-stained partnership agreement.

Devin tells Aslan that Nedret isn’t the kind of person who can be convinced over the phone. You should go in person. Aslan replies, mom should go, but she’d rather die. Devin asks, what will happen if she doesn’t accept? Smuggling at the marina? How great! Even the devil wouldn’t think of that. Aslan smiles and replies, may God bless you. Thanks.

Devin worries, are you going to work with the mafia again? Aslan jokes, I put in the application and I’m waiting to see who will answer from their office. Why do you care? Aren’t you here for the kids? Now you care what happens to me? Devin says she doesn’t want the kids to lose their uncle. He’s not buying that.

The convo gets more serious. Devin says they need to talk to the kids about their father’s death and that Leyla will be in prison for a while. Aslan is against it. They are already traumatized, he says, I don’t want them to suffer. Leyla will be back soon. Devin wants to tell the kids the truth.

Aslan starts to undress. He wants some time to get Leyla out. Just one day. She will give him one day and, in the meantime, she doesn’t want to send the kids to school. She’s worried about what other kids might say. Suddenly she realizes he’s shirtless and she turns away. Oh, he’s just getting ready for bed. And now he’s pants less, too. Lol. She’s flustered but can’t resist looking. [ahem… and I’m forced to watch because I’m recapping.] He teases her, hey, look up… what are you doing? Look up at me.

She walks to the closet. He laughs and puts on pj bottoms. He walks over to her and leans against the wall. Now he checks her out while she changes. She calls out, hello? Is there anyone there? Eyes up, she says, my eyes are up here. She tells him she’s going to sleep in the guest room. I hope you get Leyla out ASAP.

Melek asks Leyla, why did you kill your husband? I didn’t kill him, Leyla replies. Melek slides down to Leyla’s bunk and says, well, I did. I was sentenced to life and my daughter was left alone. My sweet girl. I wish nothing had happened. I have only one warning for you… don’t snore when you sleep. Leyla laughs.

Aslan and crew look for Sansar. The plan is to blame him for Tolga’s death. It seems Sansar has other crimes so that will be helpful. Aslan asks Isko if he has the video. Yes. The guys enter the tea house to wait for Sansar.

Devin goes to the kids’ room and they are not there. Hulya tells her she sent them to school and Devin doesn’t give the orders in her house. Devin asks, what if the other kids tell them their father is dead and their mother is in prison? Hulya responds, they are Soykans. They are old enough to face the truth.

fam2 #36 part 4

Hulya mocks Devin, something about an ad for a psychologist in a shower (?) on the internet. He charges 200 per session. Should I post an ad for you? They both laugh. Devin counters, it’s not necessary. I prefer my salary as a wife. Hulya stops laughing.

What’s the matter, Devin asks, you won’t pay me this month? Oh btw, you can still go to the Foundation. But I heard they appointed a trustee. Devin continues, these are the last days with the kids, make the most of your time. Leyla will be freed. Once she’s out, she’ll take the kids far from you. Bye. Devin leaves, Hulya mutters, we’ll see about that.

The guys shoot pool while waiting for Sansar. Another patron bumps Turgut on purpose and he’s ready to react. Aslan calms him. Aslan tells Eko he wants him to keep an eye on the marina for him. Eko informs Aslan he’s getting married. A marriage arranged by his mother. Aslan warns him—you are doing this to hurt Yagmur, don’t make me deal with you. Even though you are my friend, I won’t forgive you.

Turgut starts laughing. Those guys at the next table start laughing at Turgut. What’s so funny, he asks. The reply--I’ve never seen anything so red and swollen before. No problem, Turgut says. He picks up a red ball. This is also red! And he smashes the guy with it. A fight ensues. Aslan notices Sansar, who runs. Aslan runs after him while his guys continue to fight. Once they realize Aslan’s gone, they take off after him.

Devin is back at her old office. Ayca is there to help her unpack. Devin checks in with the kids’ school. Right now, they are ok. If anything happens Devin will be informed. Of course, a boy starts taunting Zeynep about her parents. Your mom is a killer. She killed your dad. He shows her the article on his phone. Zeynep gets that evil Soykan look in her eyes.

Yagmur helps at Devin’s office. She notes that Devin has moved back into Hell House. Devin says it’s just until Leyla is released. But you broke up with him, Yagmur says. I told you, don’t make me repeat it, Devin says in frustration, we broke up. Yagmur claims she just wants to help. And speaking of Aslan, he has a tenant at the marina. His contract is up and he asked me for help. I’m going to the marina tonight. Don’t get in trouble, Devin replies. Huh, Yagmur left Devin her credit card?

Serap shows up at Devin’s office. Welcome, Devin says, I was waiting for you.

Aslan continues to look for Sansar. He’s got his gun out. Sansar sneaks behind Aslan with his gun, but is knocked out by Cihan before he can shoot.

Devin asks, Serap Varol or Serap Koruzade? Which do you prefer? I just tried to help you, Serap replies, I won’t apologize for that. I didn’t call you for that, Devin says. Why did you call, Serap asks. You said you wanted to destroy the Soykan family, Devin answers. All this time, you’ve tried to ruin them. You used me. I just wanted to free you from that marriage, Serap says, does that make me a bad person?

No, you’re not, Devin replies, but I think you’re sick. Serap laughs. I’ve accidentally come to a therapy session, and you immediately call me sick. How rude. Devin notes the scar on Serap’s wrist. Courtesy of the Soykans, right? That scar isn’t there, though. It’s here. (Devin points to her heart.) Serap begins to twitch.

Devin continues, that wound still burns inside you. It hurts so much that you want to hurt every Soykan alive. (Serap becomes jumpy.) Devin diagnoses, you have an anxiety disorder. You can’t control your impulses. (Serap is shaking.) You live in constant alert and your mind never rests. You run from your darkest memories. Devin leans forward—Trust me, Serap. What is that wound? We see a brief flashback of Serap’s abuse.

fam2 #36 part 5

Serap grabs her bag and gets up. She accidentally knocks something on the floor, and it shatters. Serap has a panicked look. Devin calms her—it’s nothing. Don’t worry. I’d like to help, if you let me, your wounds will heal. Serap says no. Devin warns, if you don’t, you’ll hurt yourself and those around you. Trust me, I’ll help.

Serap looks crazed. I don’t want to, she tells Devin, I don’t want to take a bullet. Serap hurries away but turns before leaving. Don’t worry, she says, I won’t hurt your beloved family. You can be at ease, but I’ll show you how disgusting the people you live with are. You’ll see. [so does this mean a Soykan raped her?]

Sansar’s been roughed up. Cihan tells him, you killed your brother and his wife. You should be in prison. You got away with it. Everyone’s talking about it. Sansar replies, you can’t prove it, I’m not turning myself in. Aslan asks for Isko’s phone and Turgut’s billiard ball. He bashes Sansar with the ball. Confess! It was you! You killed your family, and you killed Tolga. He shows Sansar the phone. A pic of where he buried his relatives. Then a recording of him making a drunken confession of the killings.

Aslan tells Sansar he will say he killed Tolga by accident. He owed you money. You chased him and he fell. If you don’t, I’ll go to the cops. Aslan tells his guys to clean Sansar up and take him to Cagri. The guys take Sansar.

Aslan confronts Cihan. What kind of dishonorable guy are you? I saved your life, Cihan replies, is this how you thank me? Damn you, Aslan answers, when did you become so heartless? Leyla is in prison and just now you show up? Don’t talk to me about morality, Cihan says, if it wasn’t for this guy, I would have gone to serve time instead of Leyla. Relax. Why go to prison if I can blame him? Besides, there’s another matter pending. We have a debt. I’m not going anywhere until you pay. Dying is forbidden. Cihan leaves.

Aslan gets a call from the kids’ school because Hulya couldn’t be reached. An unfortunate incident. Devin gets a similar call.

Hulya has come to the prison to see Leyla.

Aslan and Devin wait outside the school office. He minimizes it. She knew this would happen if the kids came to school. She tells him that Hulya sent them, and she also wants to drive her crazy. Poor Zeynep is tearful. The boy is bloody. Zeynep got him good.

Hulya starts in with Leyla, what are you up to? You already brought shame on the family. You left Devin in charge of my grandchildren? Hulya pushes a paper towards Leyla and tells her to sign it. A statement in which she will admit she can’t take care of the kids even if she is freed.

Leyla laughs, is this a joke? You think you can corner me at my worst moment and take my kids? Hulya answers, they will live in my house, under my rules. Leyla says she’s freer in prison than she’s ever been before. Every night I pray for two things, she says, for my children to be healthy and for that damn house to burn down in front of you. No one in it has ever been happy. Leyla rips up the paper.

The boy’s parents show up at the school. They are very upset and start shouting. Devin wants to take the children outside so they don’t hear. The boy’s mom says, don’t touch my son.

Melek’s daughter has come to visit her. Hulya passes by and sees them hugging. She hears Melek tell the girl she will find a way out of here and everything will be fine. God will help me. Hulya asks the guard, who are they? The guard says that’s Leyla’s roommate. Hulya asks the guard to bring the woman, she wants to talk to her. The guard says no way. Nothing is impossible for someone like me, Hulya replies, bring her or you’ll regret it. You’ll be rewarded.

fam2 #36 part 6

Melek’s daughter leaves and Hulya calls out to her, may God help you. I’m Hulya Soykan. I’d like to have a brief chat with you. We’ll talk mother to mother. Another cellmate notices this.

The boy’s mom wants Zeynep expelled immediately. Devin calls for calm. The father and Aslan get into it. The father says the days of the Soykan family are over. Go fix your money problems. Aslan rises from his seat. The men have to be separated. Aslan threatens to smash the guy. He smashes a cabinet instead.

Then the stupid father tells Aslan to take care of his niece, or she’ll become a murderer like her mother. Devin tells him he just crossed the line, and she head butts him! On the way out, Aslan tells the jerk to be grateful he didn’t kill him.

The principal comes to speak with Aslan and Devin. The father is filing a complaint against you, he says. For the first time in 35 years, I have to suspend the parents. You can’t step foot in this school or Zeynep will be expelled. From now on, only Hulya Hanım can enter here.

And we are out.

Many thanks, dondi, for yet another splendid recap! It helped me understand parts of the episode that eluded me, and it delighted me with all your snarky side comments. What could be better?!

I was rather surprised when Devin said to Hulya "Think of me as Leyla." Surely Devin is aware of the very troubled relationship between Leyla and Hulya. So why does Devin wave a red flag in front of the bull?

Ah, finally Nedret enters the story. I doubt that I'll like her, but any enemy of Hulya's is OK with me.

I enjoyed your comment about the scene where Aslan takes off his shirt: "[ahem… and I’m forced to watch because I’m recapping.]" Wow, what courage!! (And, I confess, I too am courageous!)

After the flashback to the shadowy rape (?) scene, you ask whether Serap was raped by a Soykan. When we saw that shadowy scene the first time, I thought the shadow belonged to Ilyas. If instead, it's a Soykan shadow, who could it be? I doubt that it's either Aslan or Cihan. Yusuf?

Thanks for explaining the business with Sansa. I found much of it rather confusing, but your explanation made things clear.

I was also somewhat confused about Cihan's statement to Aslan after Cihan
prevented Sansa from shooting Aslan. Why does Cihan say that if it wasn't for Sansa, he would have gone to serve time instead of Leyla? Is it just what he goes on to say: "why go to prison if I can blame him?"? And what is the debt that Cihan claims to have with Aslan?

Again, dondi, MANY thanks!

Thanks so much, dondi. Your recap was excellent and explained some confusing things for sure. The fine on the marina did not sink in for me. I got the big fine but not that it was that new marina we saw Aslan dedicating in his white suit.

Aslan is playing Ilyas like a fiddle. I would love to have seen Ilyas' car pelted with eggs.

I'd buy a ticket for the Azize vs Hulya cage fight. [Callback to Hercai for those who watched it.] Judging by Hulya's emphatic dislike of Nedret (her sister or Yusuf's?), I suspect she's somehow thwarted Hulya and knows where some bodies are buried.

I seem to recall Yagmur having some sort of job. Can't remember. But I thought it was sweet that she now has established credit and can help pay back her sister for all the rescues.

So, Serap was abused by someone. Dondi's recap helped. I hadn't gathered that it might have been a Soykan. The extreme possessiveness demonstrated by Ilyas had made me wonder if it had been him. Somehow, I don't think it would have been Yusuf. Ibo?

Cihan is the champ of cryptic remarks. I keep hoping he's a mole and playing the long game.

I felt like watching Hulya work on Leyla's cellmate might almost be a last straw for me. I'm definitely hooked on the dizi, but they've made her ridiculously invincible. Every time Leyla gets a peek at something positive, in this case a friend in prison, Hulya smothers it.

It's kind of surprising that the father of a budding, entitled little bully dared insult Aslan Soykan. Wouldn't he worry about a visit from Turgut? [Say...that's not a bad idea.]

Gracias, Dondi. Your explanation of all the business stuff is outstanding and your snark is simply fabulous.

Aslan is trying so hard to clean up the business. I hope he makes it. Surely Nedret will say "yes" to partnership -- because somebody somewhere has got to come stick it to Hulya.

I loved Aslan and Devin's "look up at my face" scene. Hilarious. Aslan looked slimmer to me in earlier episodes, but slim or bulkier he is smoking.

Got my fingers crossed that Leyla's bunkmate or the inmate who observed Hulya will rat her out to Leyla.

Serap had seemed to have her anxiety under wraps, but she unravels in front of Devin. Devin is good at what she does, but I also think that Serap (like Cihan before her) sees their interaction as an opportunity to get help on the downlow.

Serap's abuser? We have four Soykan men (Yusuf, Ibo, Cihan, Aslan) who, despite their crimes, don't seem to be into underage sex abuse. Could it be a Soykan we haven't met yet, or could it be that Ilyas somehow brainwashed Serap to believe it's a Soykan?

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys. novelera, I read the John McWhorter piece, too. I enjoyed the reader comments as well.

I think most of us suspected Ilyas as Serap’s abuser but Friday’s ep made it seem like it was a Soykan. If that’s the case, I hope it’s Ibo. He’s a cowardly creep who has managed to avoid any sort of punishment and I want to see him pay. Let Cihan become the avenging angel.

Juanita, “Why does Cihan say that if it wasn't for Sansa, he would have gone to serve time instead of Leyla?” For starters, Cihan was the one who sent Tolga to his death and, of course, he didn’t want Leyla to pay for it. He was ready to confess, but since they found that scumbag Sansar, it was a no brainer to pin it on him. As for the “debt”, I think that refers to Cihan feeling owed for the life that was taken from him by the Soykans. He had said he would take everything from Aslan.

novelera, I’ll also take a ringside seat for Azize v Hulya. I’m happy that Ayda Aksel (Nedret) has arrived. BTW, Hulya has Nedret’s info stored on her phone as “Nefret”. Nefret means “hate” in Turkish. And in this episode, Ceylan called Nedret, “Nefret Hala”.

Seems Yagmur has a real estate job. She’s helping a renter at the marina. Her first sale was an edited scene that I posted. She used her boss (I think) as the fake boyfriend to get rid of Eko.

“Cihan is the champ of cryptic remarks. I keep hoping he's a mole and playing the long game.” ITA, see “avenging angel”, above. But I have doubts about a happy end for him.

“Got my fingers crossed that Leyla's bunkmate or the inmate who observed Hulya will rat her out to Leyla.” I hope so, too, Niecie. They are piling too much on Leyla.

Beth S noted, “Turgut is a great comic relief, even if deadly.” ITA and others have commented on that as well. His interaction with Isko is entertaining. I think novelera referred to them as “Laurel and Hardy.” Lol. Telemundo is doing us another disservice by editing out a lot of their banter.

Well, I posted a brief comment, but I dont see it.

Dondi, thank you for another excellent , snappy recap. You are a wonderful storyteller.
OT, In " Embassador" , I think the little girl's name is Melek , which I think means angel. It seems most Middle east names have meanings . Susan

Another great recap! Thanks, dondi. This is a roller-coaster of a story.
I loved the scene with Aslan dressing/undressing in front of Devin, so nonchalant, teasing her. For a moment I thought she'd say to heck with her resolve to sleep in the guest room. He's very very seductive and gorgeous.
Devin trying to analyze Serap. I'm done with Devin the crazy in her own life therapist. Yuck. I did like her head butting the obnoxious parent, though. Aslan approved, too.
Thanks for explaining the Nedret/Nefret play on words. Funny!
Beth S
