PAPAS #1 through #5

Aidé is a kind and loving single mother to twins, twins Circe and Ulisses. She is a successful business entrepreneur having founded her own company, Maxiclick. Her live in loathsome, Facundo (Lambda Garcia) is cheating on her with Federica (Aidé’s bad bff and employee). Aidé’s present life is a far cry from her high school years when she was insecure and awkward; she was mercilessly bullied by others who reappear in her orbit when she attends her reunion.

Tino is also a father to two children, Lila and Emiliano. He is struggling, unable to find suitable and permanent employment. He gets in with a bad crowd and is pulled into a bank robbery but at the last moment, notifies the authorities. Bertha (Leticia Perdigon) is Tino’s long suffering mother.

Aidé and Tino both attend the reunion. Tino spins a web of lies as to what he has been doing…We see flashbacks indicating that Aidé, (having had too much to drink) and Tino got together the night of their high school graduation and that he is the father of her children! He of course has no idea…

At the reunion, they meet up with Lichita (Maria Chacon) and Chano (Miguel Martinez) who are the parents of three children, Chofis, Checo (Maria Perroni) and Chuchito. Clara Ruz and Rudolph are another couple; Silvana (Sherlyn) and offbeat Dámaso Rivera (Horacio Pancheri). Guzman (Ferdinando Valencia) (the main villain who works for Aide is also there).

Clara Ruz and Rudolph do not have children but Silvana (killed in a hit and run by one of the characters but I can’t recall who) wanted her son Pipe to be raised by the couple. Their initial meet and greet did not go well; the child was understandably confused and angry. Their meeting tonight seems to go much better.

Circe scores some illegal pills which Ulisses ends up taking. Fortunately, he survives. Tino’s son is ill but Aidé sees him carrying his son down the hallway and feeling great compassion, pays his medical bills. She shares that he is the father of her children. She later learns the truth about his “embellished” resume; she doesn’t want him to work for her but she does want him to be their children’s nanny!

The villain that tried to involve Tino in the robbery threatens Tino’s son…

Just a few notes (not including tonight’s episode) to get the discussion started.

LAS HIJAS

Maria Perroni is Chofis, not Checo.

Papas

Diana, thank you. That cleared up some things for me. I didn't realize that Guzman was a villain . I thought he might be in love with Aide.

Many of these actors are new to me. Susan

Papas 1-5
Silvana was killed by the kid that was hitting on Circe ( and gave her the pills, seems to be a hot shot in the prep school they attend).

So the reunion seemed to have been a 40th reunion of the school which made it seem odd so many from the class 17 years ago attended. Whoever heard of a 17 year class reunion?

Facundo is Aide's soon to be ex husband. Federica is Aide's cousin and backstabber. She encourages Circe to commit bad judgements, like going out at night without permission. Show time for Hijas....

PAPAS

Susan, you realized that Federica and Aide were related; I hadn't understood that. Thank you for clarifying she is Aide's cousin Kat.

I didn't realize Facundo and Aide were married until tonight. Aide did find the black lace panties Federica left behind (accidentally on purpose??) He's such a piece of trash, isn't he??

Las hijas #10 part 1/3

Arturo tells Val some line about admiring her for her "realness" as a love song plays, I guess that will be their theme song. She doubts his word, turns away. As she turns back he has disappeared.

Mar is cleaning Cecilia's studio when Cami rushes in and berates her for touching her mother's things. Poor Mar tells her she was told to clean the room but Cami refuses to listen and insults her some more. Graciela arrives to see what all the commotion is about, followed close on her heels by Paula and Ofelia. Mar repeats that she was just doing as she was told by Paula, who of course denied asking her. Ofelia is outraged and stands up for Mar. Graciela wisely advised them to leave the studio and for now leave it as it is, no cleaning.

Leo is pulling rank at the office asking Luis secretary to bring him files etc.

Mar is crying in the kitchen. Ofelia gets the story behind Paula. She tells Mar she isn't there to clean ( how mom justifies this is beyond me. Is Mar even on a payroll as she was never actually hired. I thought Ofelia told them she was there to help her and they kind of are job sharing with one salary. I guess in a way Ofelia is the one in charge of the maids so she doesn't actually do any cleaning). Ofelia has Paula's number and she says no one messes with me....

Luis hunts for Arturo in his room, Camila comes in crying about the cleaning maid invasion of Mama's studio. He comforts her but pragmatically says you don't want everything to get covered in dust. He may have suggested she take on the cleaning, but that was wishful thinking on my part.... Graciela to the rescue again with words of comfort and explanation to Luis after Camila leaves, still in tears. Graciela lays the fault where it belongs...Paula. she wonders where Arturo is. Since Luis has no idea she says you look for him, I'll deal with Camila.

Nick gets the information he requested about Val from his assistant ( PI?). Valeria appears to be a woman above reproach, works at the gym where Arturo goes, etc. then he tells Nick that his brother, Leo, has suspended the sportswear line, according to Luis secretary. Also he has asked for all the information about his father's pending business. Nick says who gave him that authority. He's off to challenge his brother.

Luis enters one of the many rooms in his house, a sitting room perhaps, where Ofelia is dusting items on the fireplace mantle with Ofelia by her side. She apologizes to Luis for having upset Camila but then tells him her daughter also suffered greatly when her father died. She is such a sweet timid young thing (pretty much sums Mar up nicely) and Camila upset Mar too. They leave the room and Arturo limps down the foyer. Luis didn't have to search to hard for him, in fact a call to his chauffeur would have disclosed where Arturo was as his car was totaled and the chauffeur is driving him around. Where have you been, the Dr told you to rest. I was taking care of things (Valeria) and being responsible. I feel much better. Luis chews him out for being irresponsible anyhow. Arturo says I'm going to my room to rest, love you...

Paula is in her room texting away when Graciela lets herself in(without knocking). Paula actually calls her out on that ( probably the only time I will agree with that witch). Graciela tells her she knows she was behind the cleaning incident. Leo is an idiot and you control him, but no one in this house likes you, Cecilia only tolerated you because she loved Leo. But I'm not blind and I see what you are up to. I won't let you hurt my nephews and niece. If you do, you'll be sorry.

Las hijas #10 part 2/3

Valeria returns home and a lady shows up at the door. They are friendly. She is the landlord and is collecting the (late) rent. Valeria scrounged up half of it. The landlady is nice but warns her she is doing it for her late father. What about your mother, why isn't she helping. Val says she just got a job so she should be helping soon. Landlady warns if she doesn't get all the rent by the end of the month they will be evicted ( still in a friendly manner. So nice to see civility in a landlord.)

Arturo is sitting on his bed with his phone when someone knocks. It's Ofelia with a tray with a water pitcher and glass ( she didn't send Mar with it, I'm shocked!). She tells him she is Valeria's mother. He knows, still playing with his phone. Since when have you 2 been together ( lightbulb, explains why she is there and not Mar). She never said anything about you. You better not be playing with her. He tells her ask your daughter about us, I'm tired and want to be alone to rest.

Luis tracks Camila down in her room. He wants to talk about what happened. She says nobody listens to her. Then says something about their anniversary that I didn't quite get. He tells her the symbol of their love and commitment are their children. She says you have your work with my brothers, Arturo has his girlfriends, Leo has Paula, I have no one. Luis tells her he will help her find a purpose in life. ( I think)

Juan calls Mar. He is wandering in a park or something , definitely not at a job. He has to see her tonight. Sneak out and meet me. Mar doesn't want any problems. She caves, of course, and will see him later.

Nick calls Leo out on cancelling his project. He tells him he has no clue how to run the company. Leo pulls rank and says I'm the eldest and I'll be in charge some day. Threats on Nick's part as he walks away. Leo calls him and idiot under his breath.

Mar and Ofelia are leaving through the gates. O sees Rocio who slithers away. O tells Mar what little she knows about her.

Family dinner ( I would have thought Ofelia would still be working until after dinner) Luis says life goes on. We are the pillars of the company and it's success is dependant on all of us. Leo interrupts him, which earns a sever scolding from Luis. What happened at the office today will never happen again. Leo claims he was only trying to help. More business talk then Leo says something like give me the job I deserve ( I think). Paula smirks. Luis doesn't look happy.

Val is sitting at the (non) dining room table when mom and Mar return. Ofelia wants an explanation. Val tells her he insulted me and I needed to return the money. I'm tired and I want to go to bed. Not so fast Missy, what's this about you and Arturo? Val insists there is nothing between her and Arturo and Nicolas insulted me. End of story...and she storms off to bed. Ofelia is tired, tells Mar to go to bed soon and goes to her room.

Luis stands up from the table and asks what is the proper job for you? Nick says your right hand man. Luis says that is my decision to make, not yours. Camila sort of sticks up for Leo, because he leans over and hugs and thanks her. Luis suggests that Camila join in the business. Paula offers to help, I think. Luis snubs her by asking Graciela to take over managing the house, which she happily accepts.

Mar escapes the house to see Juan. He feels the only solution to the feud between the mothers is....gets down on one knee and proposes... commercial break.

Las hijas #10 3/3

Luis takes a pill. Headache? Necessary pills in his older age, enquiring minds. Nick comes in and apologizes. But Leo really riled me up. He is planning to take your place. Luis says I'm going back to work tomorrow. Concentrate on your new project. They hug.

Mar says yes, of course. Once we are married no one can separate us they both agree. I'll work hard ( where?) every day for you. Mar has no idea how to tell mama. Juan offers to talk to her, lol...if she doesn't accept us well move far away from here.

Mar runs home she finds Val sitting on her bed silently crying, upset with Mom. Mar wants the scoop on Arturo, you like him, right?Val doesn't want to talk about it. Val asks what has put that smile on your face. Juan and I are engaged as she shows her the ring.

Ofelia is looking for some paper in her drawers. Aha, it's the post it note from Rocio, and it was in her purse. The address isn't far from them.

Val asks are you crazy. You're too young. Fine be together, but engaged. Study, find your passion. Poor Mar, looks like her mother has told her she isn't smart enough to learn. Val says you are too smart! Ofelia walks in wondering what the hollering is about. Of course Mar hides the ring.

Well Paula applauds Leo's attempted mutiny of sorts. She says you proved you can make decisions. Your father will see it. Baby steps. What a b*tch...this house and company will be ours because you are the first born ( and this is why I want him to be the cuckoo in the nest).

Val covers for Mar by saying she keeps asking me about Arturo. Mom says stop fighting. Let me read and go to sleep! Val counsels Mar to break the engagement. Mar puts the ring back on.

Next morning Camila searches for Arturo who has escaped again. Nick finds her and asks how she is doing. A bit better. She is going to breakfast with Tia and they are having some retail therapy. Nick says distractions are fine but you need a life plan.

Ofelia tracks down Rocio's digs. She gossips with a neighbor trying to pump her for information. She is an old friend. She will try and catch her later. She wants to surprise her.

Mar searches for Juan. Susana comes out and chews her out. Why do you hate me so. Susana says you are just like your mother and shoves her into a pile of trash bags.

Papas
Susan, I think Guzman does have a thing for Aide, but he also seems to be sabotaging her business. He also hopes to get custody of his s cousin Silvana's son for the money he inherited. I'm wondering if Pepe (I think that's his name) is a product of artificial insemination. Sounds like Silvana's parents were uber rich.

LAS HIJAS

Kat, this was an excellent recap. You translated the actions and dialogue so well.

"Juan calls Mar. He is wandering in a park or something , definitely not at a job" had me smiling away.

"I have no one" cries poor little rich girl Camila. Is anyone surprised? Spoiled rotten and totally self absorbed...her face contorting in fury as she verbally attacked Mar was unforgiveable. Rather than chastising her, Graciela showered her with comfort and support she did not deserve. Graciela knew damn well Paula set Mar up but let Camila continue to humiliate and berate Mar.

I was glad Ofelia told Luis about Camila's treatment of Mar although I had to smile that Luis kept trying (gracefully) to leave...

Paula is reprehensible and Leo is just annoying.

Valeria has the weight of the world on her shoulders. Unable to come up with all of the rent, you could feel her desperation and utter defeat. I'm still not sure how Arturo really feels about her although she is clearly smitten with him.

That said, I wish Valeria had been a bit gentler with Mar regarding the engagement. Everything she said was true although if she had held her sister's hand and talked softly to her, Mar might have been inclined to listen rather than fighting back.

Ofelia is trying to track down Rocio; I wonder if it will backfire. I did like Ofelia's lavender two piece skirt set with the pretty mother of pearl buttons.

Diana

Las hijas

Thank you for your recap, Kat.
Camila has graduated from slightly annoying to insufferable.
Luis seems to be the only one to remember that Mar actually saved Arturo's life. And we know she didn't do it as a scheme, it was just her good nature.

So Nick investigated Valeria and found no dirt. Will this make him change his mind about her or something else will happen to make him go off on her? I think he's the only decent Portilla child (so maybe not a bio son?), but he needs to start behaving better with Val and stop the bullying and the name calling.

Mar said yes to Juan's proposal. OMG, what could go wrong with that?
Ofelia will hate it, but I find Susana just as bad. She pushed Mar into the trash? Really?

If Ofelia finds out who the fake son is, she could use this to her advantage. Maybe help Luis keep Rocio quiet and therefor win his approval?

Las Hijas

I kinda shut down when business is discussed on the show. Adriana, if you haven't watched it yet, could you pay attention to the dinner scene where Luis argued with Leo. He talks about the business being all part of the family. I think he said his father passed it down to him and he has an obligation to keep it successful. If that is what was said, did Graciela not inherit any of the business? If that is so, Leo's claim of primogeniture has merit. Maybe Graciela is a silent partner in the business.

I agree Diana, Val could have handled the engagement announcement better. She should have just pushed for a long engagement. How is hiding the ring from mom going to succeed as she likes to snoop through her kids drawers.

Las Hijas

Thank you Kat for the fantastic recap! I'm not there yet, but I plan to be. I made it through ep 3 and I'm liking this story!

The character of Val reminds me of a character Oka played about 10 years ago (who was probably the same age, LOL) on Quien es Quien. Extreme tomboy but vulnerable. So far I like her. I was betting on Art being the galan but after watching the 'hooker' scene, I can see why it's up for conversation. That scene was SIZZLING!! Definitely some chemistry there, I didn't see Perdona so no frame of reference.

The novela Camilla was watching was Cabo - so that tells you she has bad taste!!! I can say that because I watched that show and I'm still mad at myself for doing so.

I saw on the early recaps Susan was wondering where she'd seen Juan before. I don't know if you're still wondering but that's the actor who played the character of Chulo? (I think I am remembering the name right) in Si nos Dejan. He was the sweet character falsely accused of murder who hid in Yuri's closet for most of the novela! LOL Juan here is no galan, he lost all potential galan points when he left Val alone at that 'audition' at night! She went there only for Mar but he carries lil sis off to eat tacos and leaves Val alone to catch the bus back home??? Nope!

Las Hijas
Darcy, looking forward to you catching up. Actually having some of the early scenes redefined helps as I am still learning character names at that point. In the audition scene it made no sense for Val to go and say her sister was not coming. A text would have sufficed, and as soon as the location was a hotel room she should have hightailed it out of there. Her judgement is definitely faulty. I actually thought she was just going to be late as they had arrived a bit early and Juan talked her into a snack or something.

I haven't seen the shows you mentioned, though I saw quien es quien but don't remember her character. I did see Oka ( oka is Val, correct?)in Marea de Passiones, which also had Juan in it as a minor abusive macho deadbeat husband. I'll make sure not to watch Cabo.

Papas #6

I am still struggling with this novela, and the characters' names. But what I got out of it from last night:

Hopping mad Lichita confronts Chano at the gym and lets him know he is lucky that the test was neggo prego, no pregnancy. She berates him for not getting the vasectomy that he said he was getting, and lets him know he is facing a life of celibacy if he doesn't do right. He seemed unsure what celibacy was.

Later, at dinner, Checo shows the family the Prepa he would like to attend. They burst out laughing, Chano and Lichita let him know that they could not possibly afford such an expensive school. Lichita mentions a Prepa "abierta". Not important to the story, but interesting to me; an "Open Prepatory", is this publicly financed? That would be good for those high school students whose family cannot afford a private preparatory for University.

In any event, Checo doesn't seem like the nicest kid in this novela.

Tino's friend, who had let him use the model apartment as a home, told Tino he could no longer do so for fear of losing his job. Tino understands, his friend has his own family to look out for. Tino takes their modest possessions to the hospital where he visits his son. His mom and kids are used to this but they are upset and depressed.
Aidé realizes what has happened and tells Tino his family can live in her servants' quarters.

Aidé gives Tino the money he owes to the loan shark, Melitón, and Tino pays off his debt. I don't know how Aidé knew how much was owed, but whatever. The loan shark lets Tino know that Calacas may want to settle a debt with him for getting him arrested.

Rina, Aidé's maid or "ama de llaves" is upset because the waiter who was supposed to work the dinner for possible investor in Maxiclick, Sr. Logroño, can't make it. Tino declares he can do the job and does, though he's a bit upset at Logroño's chauvanism and disrespect toward Aidé. Logroño's a stuffed shirt and seems to think women are second class citizens. (This is a Rosy Ocampo telenovela, so he will surely get taken down a peg or two.)

Facundo keeps using his daughter to solidify his position in Aidé's house. He is looking for a big payout at some point. I don't know how much interest he actually has in his daughter.

Lichita may have a job at Maxiclick as a receptionist; Chano doesn't look too happy about it.

Pura, Silvana's (mother, aunt?) manages to get into Silvana's computer and finds something of importance and wants to see Clara Luz and Rudolf about it.

During the dinner for Sr. Logroño he goes on and on about old-fashioned proprieties and Facundo goes along with him. Finally Aidé's youngest daughter says that her parents are divorced and Aidé confirms it. Sr. Logroño is muy upset.

Please correct any mistakes and add to this if you can.

Andy

Papas & OT

I very definitely like this novela but with some reservations. Many of the characters' names I had never heard before, and a few I have to wonder about, like Aidé's daughter, Circe.

Circe, an enchantress who turns men into pigs. Hmmm...

Susan, thumbs way up for Cosmic Crisp! Definitely crisp, and quite sweet!

Diana, I saw your comment re Las Hijas, "I did like Ofelia's lavender two piece skirt set with the pretty mother of pearl buttons."
And then I immediately heard Paul Anka singing "Oh, Diana!"
Just that part, not the whole song

:-)

HIJAS

Thanks, Kat! I so enjoyed your recap with your commentary. Poor Luis with Arturo who doesn’t seem to do much; Leonardo in for a power grab because he is ”the eldest”; whiny hysterical Camila and Nicolás who seems to be the “closest” to normal. What a crew! Looks like neither Ofelia or Juan’s mother are going to support Mar and Juan’s engagement. Will they run off and get married. It is sort of weird having Mar in her short short skirts roaming around the house and “cleaning”. Only in novela land! It was sad to hear Mar tell Valeria that her mother never made her feel like she was smart. Next episode should be a good one.

Las hijas

Well, I typed quite a long comment ...and lost it . I reallyl hate this new commenting format .

Anyhoo..Kat, thank you for that snappy, detailed format.

RIght now , Val is the only character I like ...except when she throws a hissyfit.

The actress playing Val and the actor playing Nick were a sweet , young couple in " Perdonna." Maybe they will be teamed up again .

Peniche is playing Arturo as a clueless, directionless teen.

Camila is a spoiled brat . She was impressed by Juan when be fixed her tire and refused payment . will we get a rich girl\poor boy pairing?

Mar seemed fascinated with Cecelia's painting ? Does she have artistic talent ? Perhaps she is gifted in that way , and someone will discover it. Susan

Papas And OT

Andy and Diana, thank you both for the helpful recaps . I am very confused about the minor characters . is Aunt Pura a goodie or a baddie ? Is Pepe Silvana's son who has inherited lots of money ?

I am not confused about Facundabeing a smarmy , greedy guy trying to hang onto the good life .

The leads are dynamic and have great chemistry , great smiles. Jose Ron is doing a great job playing Tino as a sweet soul with bad luck.

OT..Andy , glad you like the apple suggestion . New suggestion ..Cara cara oranges,.

"Oh Diana, I am such a fool . Darling ,I love you , though you treat me cruel..."

Susan

Las hijas,

Darcy and Kat, I haven't seen any of novelas you mentioned , but I know that have seen the actor playing Juan somewhere . I have watched lots of telenovelas. Ill have to keep thinking .

Looks like Susana is as much as a harpy as Ofelia. Susan

Las hijas

Kat, as far as I remember, what Luis was saying at the dinner table was that his father started their business and he's done all he could to make it succesful, so he will be the one to decide who gets to take his place.

Nick is obviously the one with the most education and he have some business experience, too, since this new sportswear is his baby and apparently is a decent project.
Leo's argument that he's the oldest, therefor the most worthy is laughable. He'd have more of a chance if he said that he spent several years learning the trade from his father and he feels capable to be his succesor.

Daisy, at first I thought Arturo was the male lead, also, but that confrontation in the hotel room made me raise my eyebrows. I've watched enough telenovelas to know that didn't happen for no reason. Oka and Emanuel are a new couple for me, also, but I can see the sparks. And I kind of like it.

Jarifa, ITA about Mar and her duties within the house. It's just so ridiculous, is she still supposed to seduce Arturo now that her sister is rumored to be dating him?

Las hijas
Thanks so much, Kat.
To be honest, I wouldn't ever want to play Mar's character. If I had to say something about her, I'd go...hmm nice, naive andspineless I guess?
Why was Paula smirking when Leo was talking? Does she want him to humiliate himself? He wanted to 'help', but he doesn't seem intelligent enough to get Luis' approval. I shudder to think how fast he'd ruin the company if he was in charge of it.
Graciela is a mean one too. I seem to remember in one episode Ceciliadid side with Camila but she said something along the lines 'I know paula provoked you but stop falling for her tricks/I know when you are the first to start' or something similar. Graciela seems to think that the only thing Camila needs to do is be in charge of the house. How can she not see Camila is out of line? But maybe she has no problem with being mean to employees. But it's really sad to see older people who haven't seem to have learnt much at all.
I wonder what Paula's final goal is. Who would want to live in a place where everyone hates you? It's not like all those sons will just drop dead all of a sudden...But then...Maybe?

Papas
I'm very concerned that Aide doesn't know Facundo uses Scarlett this way. I can't understand what she ever saw in him.
And why exactly can't Tino get a refgular job? Why doesn't his mum work?
That idea that Lichita could be a recepcionist would be great, but I think it's taking 'turn the other cheek' a bit too far.

PAPAS

Andy, thank you for your fantastic recap. I think you understood everything just fine; you definitely cleared up a few things for me. :)

"Lichita...lets him know he is facing a life of celibacy if he doesn't do right. He seemed unsure what celibacy was" had me laughing out loud. Perfect!

Tino was a fabulous server; such charm! The women in Logroño's family definitely noticed. I liked that Tino bristled at "...Logroño's chauvanism and disrespect toward Aidé". So did I!

Yes, Facundo was definitely "working it" and was simply nauseating. His daughter is a sweetheart.

I'm hoping there will be some fashion faux pax moments and am keeping my eyes peeled. :)

I can only imagine the hijiinx that Tino and his family moving in will cause. I can't wait!

Susan, "I am not confused about Facundabeing a smarmy , greedy guy trying to hang onto the good life". I'm right there with you!!!

Susan, I think Pura is Silvana's aunt. Whether she is Guzman's mother though is still a question mark. I'm thinking not. I believe she would be the best guardian for Pepe, but perhaps what she read on the laptop will determine otherwise.

Papas
Diana, I'm not sure the divorce is final. Aide was discussing the settlement with her cousin/lawyer (sleeping with the soon to be ex) at the breakfast table.. I doubt she will serve Aide's best interests in the divorce.

Las Hijas
Thanks Kat, I enjoyed your recap. Poor Mar, apparently she was raised to think all she has going for her is her looks. It’s so awkward to see her following her mother around. And when they left they were holding hands! Paula is evil and she’s going to destroy her husband. I’m hoping he’s not the true son, just to see Paula freak out.

Whenever I see a character start out like Mar - so vanilla, so naive, harmless, and... nice... I always wonder if they are going to be the one who ends up surprising everyone! More often than not, it doesn't happen, and they end up being exactly what they seem. But it seems like the perfect set up. I mean if Mar was up to something no one would see her coming.

It's weird that none of Arturo's siblings have his blood type.... I am O negative and so are both of my sisters who I share both parents with. I think my dad is O negative too - but I am not positive about that. I'm no expert on blood types but I always thought my sisters and I were all O negative because the combination of our parent's blood could only produce O-. It seems unlikely that Arturo is O- and his siblings are not.... Which opens the question of whether Arturo is Rocio's son, but I still don't think it's him because surely, she would have tried to get in his hospital room if it were so. Instead, she only approaches Nicolas....hmm....

PAPAS #7 Part 1

As the long, unpleasant dinner continues, Logroño continues to insult Aidé, she confronts him for marginalizing her business acumen. Facundo tries to add his worthless two cents and she shuts him up quickly. Begrudgingly, I have to admit Logroño looks sharp in his dark suit jacket and striped tie. Her wish that he respect women falls on deaf ears.

Federica is still gleefully processing Facundo’s revelation that Tino is the father of Aidé’s kids.

After Aidé’s insists Logroño respect ALL women, he huffs and puffs and hustles his family out as his wife wears a small smile for Aidé.

Clara Luz gets a call about a security gig at a concert. She brings Pipe with her; the boss isn’t happy but agrees.

Lichita announces to her family she has gotten a job with Maxiclick. Chofis is impressed; Checo, not so much.

Tino tells Aidé he is impressed with way she handled herself. She almost trips and he catches her as they exchange rather longing looks. The spell is broken as Facundo lumbers in; it is obvious he doesn’t like Tino.

Checo thinks back to “saving” Circe and texts her…

Clara Luz can’t keep Pipe in line, he runs on stage during the performance and jumps off of the stage into the crowd. Miraculously, Rudolph is there to catch him!

Facundo confronts Aidé lying through his teeth that he gave up his career for her. She doesn’t buy it for a second and throws it in his face that he lost his program because the ratings tanked.

Facundo proposes a picnic, Aidé’s kids beg off, but Aidé feels bad and agrees to do despite Facundo going.

PAPAS #7 Part 2 of 2

Ulises goes to the hospital for his therapy appointment, accompanied by Tino. Later, Tino learns that Tino didn’t keep the appointment but left! Tino, in a panic, starts looking for him as Aidé calls to find out how things are. He keeps mum that Ulises has taken a powder. He runs around showing the picture to a group of kids who recognize him and tell Tino Ulises is standing on an overpass. Tino runs off, his face mirroring his concern.

Tino reaches Ulises, grabbing him as he thinks he is going to jump but Ulises says he had no intention of doing anything drastic; he just didn’t want to keep the appointment!

Lichita runs into Aidé at Maxiclick. Lichita apologizes for bullying her in school but Aidé is very short with her. While she accepts her apology Aidé makes it clear she doesn’t want to see her there. She obviously doesn’t realize Lichita has been hired.

Aidé shows up at the picnic. Facundo tries to get Aidé to kiss him, asking for another chance. No way she answers. She then calls Tino who is having a bite with Ulises, telling her all is well. Aidé is obviously pleased.

Clara Luz has an accident, running into one of the singers, giving her a bloody nose.

Aidé finds an empty tube of chlamydia medicine in Circe’s wastepaper basket. When she confronts her daughter, nasty Circe scathingly tells her mother she has set a poor example, being with a man when she was barely conscious. This earns her a well-deserved slap for her insults.

Facundo complains about Tino to Federica. I’m not quite sure what she says (does she tell him Tino is the twins’ father?)

In the last scene of the evening, Tino receives a phone call threatening Emiliano!!

Kindly correct what I’ve gotten wrong and add what I missed.

I will be happy to do one or two brief highlights a week, I just can't commit to more right now. This is my second this week...

PAPAS

Diana, thank you for your recap, it was a big help! I definitely understand that people can only do so much.

I certainly fit into that category. I will be happy to try to post something helpful as this novela goes on, but I'm not much of a recapper. The spirit is willing, but the mind is weak :-)

I was certainly lost with this episode, and I can't help but wonder if Rosy Ocampo hasn't adopted the philosophy of "Move fast and break things, and maybe the audience won't notice that nothing is making much sense."

OK, a little exaggeration, but I do find things confusing. To be honest, I often do with telenovelas, at least in the early part of the novela. Too much, too soon, to fully digest.

Nonetheless, as I said, I will try to post something when I can. I'm just not sure how helpful the posts will be since I am often confused about what is happening.

A perfect example here in chapter #7, Pura called Clara Ruz and Rudolph, and then when they arrived she started out the door with luggage. This seems to have been prompted by what Pura saw on Silvana's computer, but basically it's a mystery to us, or at least to me. I'm surprised that they let her go so easily, especially with luggage. She essentially dumped Pipe on them when they are already very busy, and went off to who-knows-where for who-knows-how-long.

Andy

PAPAS

If Aidé hasn't talked to Circe about sex, that conversation is long overdue, but I think Aidé is too responsible to not have already done so. Chlamydia is not the worst thing possible, but it's serious. At least Circe had sense enough to find out what she had and get treatment, but if the lucky guy is Checo, she does not have a responsible partner.

I misjudged Circe and her relationship with Aidé, I thought they had a really good one. Maybe they did until now. And I suspect that Checo will be a problem for his parents as well.

Las Hijas #11
Part 1/3

I’m starting to think that Susana is worse than Ofelia – she actually pushed Mar into a pile of street trash.
Back home, the poor gullible fool aka Mar tries to put on some of the “borrowed” perfume to remove the smell –how about having a shower instead.
The kitchen faucet has a tiny leak, Ofelia can’t fix it and in a fit of rage, breaks the tap completely, creating not only a water leak, but a water fountain. She fixes it by covering it with a towel. That will do it.
Then she forces Mar to come with her to the mansion. They leave while in the kitchen the water is spreading.

Arturo tries to get Ximena to help him out with Valeria, but she’s afraid she’ll get fired, too. She doesn’t want to give him Val’s home address, but he insists, he only wants to help her.

Susana tells Juan she told the whole truth about Ofelia to Gloria. He’s upset, he wanted to help Ofelia in order to get the families together… because he asked Mar to marry him. Susana will NOT have that, she’d rather die first. OMG, she is the worst!

Ofelia and Mar arrive at the mansion, apparently a bit late, but Ofelia astutely covers for it.

Valeria finds her home almost flooded. Soaked floors, the walls were already in bad shape, and I don’t even want to think about the furniture She tries to fix it the best she can and eventually manages to stop the water (or so she thinks). But the house is a mess and she is soaking wet too. For some reason she apologizes to her father who tried his best to give them a house and buy them stuff and then starts cleaning.
Some neighbors come to comment – NOT help – so Val asks them to leave.

Camila and Graciela are out having breakfast and shopping. Camila is still sad over her mom’s death.
Will she ever be OK again, she wonders? Was she OK before? Because all she did was pout, whine and stomp her feet… at her mother. She also feels like the family is falling apparat. Graciela tries to cheer her up the best she can.

Las Hijas #11
Part 2/3

Gloria is back at the mansion and confronts Ofelia about her lie – she is NOT Susana’s friend. And she will tell Luis the truth. Ofelia says her intentions are good, she needs the job to support her daughters, begs Gloria not to say anything.
But Gloria doesn’t care, she goes up the stairs, in search of Luis…. Ohhh, the stairs of death!
Ofelia tries to get her to go to the kitchen, then actually asks her to leave because she never lied to her, Juan did. They get a bit physical, and Gloria pushes Ofelia. But somehow, she is the one to lose her footing at the same time (even if Ofelia did not push her back, I looked twice just to make sure) and yeah… she falls to the bottom of the stairs.
Ofelia is scared, quickly comes down and calls for help. She tells Paula and Mar that Gloria just fell, she couldn’t do anything to help. When they move her a bit, they see her head is soaked in blood.
But she is not dead, an ambulance arrives to take her to the hospital.
Graciela asks Paula for an explanation, but for once, Paula has no clue about what has happened. Ofelia comes to clean the mess, she has a moment when it looks like she’s about to faint – she explains that she can’t stand to see blood. Graciela asks her to let Gloria’s family know.

Nicolas asks Luis about the new housekeeper and her daughters. Luis says Ofelia is just a simple woman who has had a hard life, she only needs some help. Nick feels something is off, but Luis believes if she wanted to harm them, she could have done it already.

Arturo arrives at Valeria’s house. She’s still cleaning, and the door is open, so he just comes in. He offers to help, but she’d rather not. He wants her to go with him, but Val makes it clear that this is her home and it makes her happy, she loves it here. Arturo says he lives in a mansion, and he is completely unhappy.
They get close, looks like they are about to kiss, but the faucet bursts again, splashing water everywhere. Arturo stops it, gets soaked himself, so he has to remove his shirt (“yowza” Valeria’s eyes scream). Can he borrow a shirt?
Does he absolutely have to? This recapper thinks he’s back in the running for the galan spot, he gets one point from the Patio for looking so fiiine.

Ofelia confesses to Mar that Gloria was angry with her and that’s why she fell. And no, she DID NOT push her, she’d never do that.

Nicolas arrives to see Valeria, too. What are YOU doing here, she asks. He only wants to know what are their intentions with his family. She takes offence, but doesn’t get to say much, because Arturo comes from the other room still half naked.
Oooh, now Nick gets it! He says he realizes what went on with the contest and the winner. Val gets mad, asks them both to get out. Arturo doesn’t want to leave before they speak about their relationship. Nick looks a bit outraged. Val just pushes them both out of the house.
Nick and Arturo start quarrelling in the middle of the vecindad, with the nosey neighbors watching. Nick thinks Arturo orchestrated the whole campaign just to get his novia to work for them and he asked her to be at the apartment that night. If their father finds out, he will cancel everything. He’s worked for months on this project, he can’t allow his brother’s shenanigans to ruin it.
Arturo says he never asked Valeria to come to the hotel, her mother asked for an audition for her other daughter. Nick thinks he’s lying, he likes to go out with women who sell themselves. Shut up, Nick, you’re losing Caray Points. Arturo asks him to stop talking like this about Val.
Nicolas leaves and Arturo goes back to knocking on Val’s door, while the women from the vecindad are witnessing the whole thing. And they are getting quite a show, two men fighting in front of the Garcia home, one of them shirtless. One of the women does seem to take Ofelia’s side, she says she’s been through a lot.

Las Hijas #11
Part 3/3

Mar calls Juan to tell her about Gloria and to say that she needs to confess to her mother about their relationship. Juan asks her not to speak for now. Ofelia interrupts the call and Mar has to tell her she spoke to Juan about Gloria, someone has to go tend to her. Ofelia is afraid of Susana’s reaction when she finds out, accuses Mar of betraying her.

Valeria allows Arturo back in the house. He checks on his t-shirt, it’s still wet, she’s sure the neighbors will have a good laugh about them. He apologizes for Nick’s behavior, he’s never treated one of his novias like this. She corrects him, but no matter, she can’t stand Nick more than he can stand her. Well, if that’s not something one says 20 episodes before falling head over heels, than I have no clue about how telenovelas work. One Patio Point? Someone start a spreadsheet.
Arturo notices some pictures, one of Val, Mar and their father. She gives him one of her dad’s shirts (just as a loan, she points out), he tries to kiss her again and almost manages, but she pushes him away and asks him to go because she has a lot of work to do. He leaves, and she’s smiling, smitten. OK, so Arturo definitely has a head start in her heart.

Susana finds out about Gloria, thinks Juan is to blame for everything… and Ofelia also. Jacinto tries to get her to calm down. They leave for the hospital.

Paula finds Ofelia and Mar in the hallway, thinks what happened with Gloria is very odd.
At the hospital the doctor tells Graciela that Gloria is OK for now, but she’s not awake. She could be out for days even. Graciela wonders where her family is.

Arturo is home and now wearing his own shirt. He tells Ofelia about the water leak at the house. Ofelia already knew, since she provoked it, so she doesn’t really care. Arturo says he went to see Valeria, but Ofelia would rather introduce him to Mar, her other daughter, who gave him blood. He says thank you and invites them to live at the mansion if they don’t have a place to stay.

Juan arrives home and his mom tells him Gloria is in very bad shape. And it’s all because of Ofelia. Juan says it was an accident, then leaves. Jacinto asks Susana to think about what she will do next, they risk alienating their son more each day.

It's night time and Ofelia and Mar arrive to find Val still cleaning. Ofelia doesn’t care about the house, but Val is in pain because this is their home. Ofelia is even happy this happened, Val realizes she provoked everything. Ofelia says it’s all for the better, Arturo offered them a place to live. Mar wants to move to the mansion, too.
Val doesn’t want to hear about it, she WON’T GO!

Las hijas

Darcy, to answer your question about Rocio not going inside Arturo's hospital room - she doesn't actually know which of the boys is her son. She surely knows what old her son is, but she doesn't know how old are each of the Portilla boys, so she can't really tell which is which.
As for the blood thing, the fact that Arturo has the same type as Cecilia tells me that she is surely his mother, so he's removed from the running for bing Rocio's.

HIJAS

Thanks, Adriana. Very fine recap! “how about having a shower instead?” Exactly. I couldn’t get over Mar’s dress with LOVE printed on it either. She is so clueless as you mentioned. I missed a few minutes of the novela and the fall so I was relieved that Ofelia hadn’t pushed Gloria. With Ofelia you never know . . . LOL Loved your “Shut up,Nick, you are losing Caray points” and the Nick/ Val prediction. Yes, we see that coming. At least, Luis has a good impression of Ofelia and it is his house. Looks like Ofelia's dream is coming true. Should be fun.

Las Hijas

Thanks Adriana, for the clarification. The recap is amazing too I have no doubt, but I haven’t read it yet! ;) I missed that Rocio didn’t know which one was her son. I also missed that Cecilia was O- too. That makes sense, though still may be odd that none of the siblings share a blood type.

Las hijas

Adriana, yes we need a scorecard for the 2 potential galans. The hotel room casting has still yet to be explained. And once again Juan gets called at his place of non work. Maybe he is a courier since he is always outside somewhere.

Honestly, if the model chosen for the campaign is a girlfriend of Arturo's, what's the harm. Nick is probably just mad because he is drawn to Val.

We also need a scorecard for how long Gloria's coma lasts and that she will wake up with amnesia.

LAS HIJAS

Adriana Noel, thank you for another wonderful recap. Loved "stairs of death"

"Can he borrow a shirt? Does he absolutely have to? This recapper thinks he’s back in the running for the galan spot, he gets one point from the Patio for looking so fiiine". Oh my, he certainly did.

Arturo and Valeria's chemistry was combustible. I was mesmerized. I can't even imagine how they will switch Arturo for Nick; I will be very disappointed if they do. He's too sour and dour for her :(

Ofelia throwing a towel over the full blown leak shows how irresponsible she is. Once Gloria wakes up, how is she going to explain herself??

You explained so much so well - I thought Ofelia did push Gloria but it was the other way around, causing the fall. As you noted Jarifa "With Ofelia you never know!" I also didn't realize Rocio doesn't know who her son is; thanks for explaining it.

Valeria trying (hopelessly) to clean up the home she loves was very touching. Good for Valeria for refusing to go to the mansion.

Diana

PAPAS

Andy, thank you so very much.

I think you are an excellent recapper as you have proven over and over again. As you insightfully noted "too much, too soon, to fully digest". There were so many scenes before the first commercial it was overwhelming. I still have to stop and think what characters are on the screen, I've not yet gotten everyone straight.

Excellent point about Pura taking a powder; I have no idea what happened there.

I can't imagine ever, ever speaking to my mother the way Circe did. How hurtful.

Diana

Las Hijas

I forgot to comment on the dripping sink. Banging a small drip. Stupid. Yanking the spigot off even more stupid, but the spigot does not control the water volume, the valve stem in the faucet does. They needed to find the shut off valve or cut the water to the house. Almost looked like there was no drain connected to the sink. All the water should have disappeared down the drain, but perhaps in old apartments in Mexico you are happy to have water from a tap, and you dump the drain water outside. In which case where was the basin to catch the water. I was very disappointed in the stupidity of that scene.

I guess Mar gave up on trying to return the perfume after the cleaning art studio fiasco. That trash did not look that stinky, imo, and her solution should have been a shower if it was.

Las Hijas

Cher Adriana, Merci for that excellent recap that brought us every moment .

Hey, you have to love a guy who is willing to help you clean up a big messy mess....with or without a shirt . Arturo seemed sweet and guileless in this episode , and he was gracious and appreciative and didn't turn up his nose at accepting Val's beloved father's shirt . Nick, on the other hand ,was his yelling, Pompous, accusing self , but I think that he is attracted to Val, too.

I couldn't believe Ofelia causing the water catastrophe and then simply walking out the door . DiD she want to ruin the apartment so that she could ask to move into the mansion ?

I was surprised when Gloria showed up and confronted O on the stairs of death. However, I thought O was the one who was going to fall and injured and third end up at the mansion .

By the way, those are very famous stairs that have shown up in many novelas . The first time I saw them was in " Amor Real," one of my favorite novelas. Susan

Papas
Diana, I appreciated you recap .
One sweet scene was RudolfO (is be Tina's brother ?) and his wife ( ?) Cuddling in bed with Pepe. Pepe is a cutie .

Scarlet is another cutie, but I can't remember what telenovela I saw her in . Was it " MI Camino " as Susana Gozales's daughter ?

Is Aide's Housekeeper being accepting of Tino's family moving in ?
Susan

PAPAS & OT

I will post a short and opinionated mini-recap of Papas #8, tonight or tomorrow morning.
You have been warned.
I will try to stick to the plot and not just consider Fede's "twins".

Susan, thanks but I'm not a fan of Cara Cara oranges. Give me a good old rootin' tootin' American navel orange any time. Over the years navels have gone from a springtime crop to an all year round orange. In the bad old days in cold weather the only navels available were grown in southern hemisphere, South America or South Africa, where it's summer when we have winter. But those navel oranges were never as good and I usually just passed on them.
Now we get very decent all-American navels year round. Don't ask me how they have done this but the oranges are quite good.

Andy

PAPAS

Thank you Susan.

Clara Luz and Rudolf were cute cuddling Pipe (which is what Wiki lists as his character name although it could be Pepe). I don't think Tino and Rudolf are brothers.

I looked up Camila Nunez who plays Scarlet but couldn't find much about her previous work.

Andy, thank you for volunteering to do tonight.

Diana (suddenly craving oj)

Las Hijas

Adriana, your recap is wonderful as I suspected! I'm catching up quickly! I noticed on ep 9 when Arturo and Nic were in the car after Art told all the press that Val was his novia but admitted to Nic it was a lie. Nic told Art that he treated Val very badly that night at the hotel... which is interesting because talking with Val he maintains his attitude of she's no good but with his brother he admitted he acted badly...

I agree that Nic is attracted to Val and we have a two-man race here. Val seems to have chemistry with both, and she's clearly smitten currently with Art, but there's something electric in those glares she exchanges with Nic. My early opinion is team Nic. Arturo is nicer and fun to look at with his shirt off, but I would like to see Nic fall hard and have to beg for forgiveness! That would be fun to watch. But only if Val stays the strong no-nonsense character she is and makes him earn it. I wouldn't want to see her suddenly go weak in the knees the second he said 5 nice words. Art is cute and cuddly but he's also immature, aimless, hapless; Nic would make the better partner if he stopped being a jerk. And Art would have us believe that Nic's behavior is out of character as he told Val that Nic has never treated one of his girlfriends in that way.

Can't wait to see which brother wins!

How stupid do you have to be to wear 'stolen' perfume to go work in the house of the owner. I kept waiting to hear someone recognized the smell of mom's perfume on Mar, I'm surprised that didn't happen!

Las Hijas
Thanks, Adriana, I enjoyed reading the recap. I agree about a shirtless Arturo. He is defínetly in the running for galán. Nick has played the same type in two novelas I’ve seen. I do think he and Val will end up together.
I can’t believe Arturo invited them to stay at the mansion. I hope they have servants quarters. Ofelia is going to get too confortable and they won’t be able to get her to leave. I hope Val continues to stay in the house.
That hotel room was very confusing to me. Val had seemed to be where Mar was supposed to meet Arturo. And since Nick was there i thought it was in the office. Maybe that will be made clearer some day.
Liz

Las Hijas

The hotel thing was weird but Nic set it up so he would be there. Not so it would happen the way it did, he didn’t know what would happen but he suspected Art was up to something so he had his assistant tell Art that Nic wanted to meet with him ASAP and then Art went reluctantly to meet up with Nic while Nic went to the casting to see what’s up. That’s why Nic was there and Art wasn’t, but I still don’t understand why it was at a hotel.

La hijas

When Mar was late for her first audition Ofelia had to insists and threaten Arturo to get her another one. He sais yes, but only if she (Ofelia) didn't come. I think choosing the hotel and 9PM was just a plot point so that Nick would get the wrong ideea. All the more reason for me to think that he's maybe probably Val's endgame.

ITA that he has to beg for it, but seeing how Arturo is the careless macho and Nick is the reliable one, Val will probably realize this sooner rather than later. Also, why IS Nick the way he is with Val when he is so level headed with everything else? Could it be that he kind of digs her, like some of you said? I didn't see it yet, for now he just looks fed up with his brother's adventures, especially since this time it could affect their work.

Las Hijas,

Interesting conversation about which brother Val will end up with. Well, I have seen the actor playing Nic in several shows, and just wait until he takes his shirt off . ...contest over. I now think that he will end up with Val. The two had great chemistry in " Perdona.". Susan

I finally realized that Aidé must have been a fan of the Odyssey, naming her twins Ulises and Circe. Well, I got it eventually...

My apologies, this episode had an awful lot of boohooing, snarling, and sometimes reconciling. I didn't understand a lot of the dialog.

El Calacas calls Tino from his jail cell to tell him he has confederates searching hospitals to find Tino's son Emiliano. When he gets out of jail he wants to have a "chat" with Tino, otherwise he will "chat" with Emiliano. Tino tells him he will face him, leave Emiliano alone.

Aidé and Circe can barely talk to each other. Circe thinks her mother has invaded her private life beyond a mother's rights, and has too little respect for her because (I think) she is now sexually active. Circe yells "There are limits that not even a mother can cross." (A lot of this I found hard to follow.)

Outside Circe's room an upset Aidé asks herself, "Ay, what have I done?"

Facundo does his usual "I sacrificed my best years to support Aidé, but now she doesn't want to subsidize my life style" this time talking to Fede.

Lichita is at Maxiclick now. Guzman says he has plans for Lichita. I'm not sure exactly what that's about, but Guzman seems to not be an honest friend to Aidé.

Ulises tries to calm Circe, but she's not having it. Nonetheless, these two siblings do have a very good relationship.
Aidé and Tino spend some time together discussing their problems with their children. Tino admits that he has been neglecting Lila, not because he wanted to, but because other issues with Emiliano just could not wait.

Fede wants to have some between the sheets time with Facundo, but he's not interested, he has to work some nasty stuff to make sure his lifestyle is not diminished by Aidé, who just wants to toss him out.

Tino and Aidé talk it out heart to heart about the difficulties of raising children. Finally, Aidé shoots a photo of herself as a new young mom, with braces, holding a newborn, presumably Circe, under Circe's locked door. Circe starts crying, opens the door, and she and Aidé agree to talk, no judgments.

A rather sad scene, Rudolf in a seedy bar singing something sad that the few bar patrons are not interested in. Clara Luz looks sad herself, sorry that Rudolf is wasting his time, I suppose. Pipe is with her and looks like he's cold or sick. Everything was sad, sad, sad.
Later it becomes apparent that Pipe is suffering an allergic reaction. He is allergic to peanuts.

Lichita and Chano at home get into a discussion about Checo. Lichita seems to be the responsible one, she wants to know if Checo is now sexually active and could use some advice from his father. Checo comes in and, a bit obnoxiously, tells them he is not irresponsible, he wants to succeed in life, not throw everything away with an unplanned pregnancy like they did. Checo might have a point, but he's not a nice guy.

Circe and Aidé discuss things thoroughly, no judgments, no arguments. And it turns out that Circe has not had a sexual experience! A surprise to me. Everything, including the chlamydia medicine package in her trash, were tests to see how far her mother would trust her, or not. I'm not sure it made sense to me, but it did to them and they boohooed some more, hugged and cried. They cleared up a lot of issues, but not all, not completely.

Finally, Facundo posts a video claiming that Aidé has installed her lover in the house, disguised as a tutor for the kids. Lots of yelling and screaming, big fight between Facundo and Tino. (Tino kicked Facundo's butt.) Aidé finally tells her kids the truth, that Tino is their father. Shocked faces on the kids.

One last thing, closing scene, Guzmán and a slew of computer screens. He has nefarious plans of his own for Maxiclick.

Andy

Papas #8
Sorry, I forgot to label this above short recap as Papas #8, and the system would not let me edit or delete.

Andy

Papas
Andy, good job. I'm catching up on this so I binge watched 2.5 episodes tonight. I FF through commercials but that sometimes backfires and I get a black screen with only the CC's. Which is why I only saw half of tonight's episode.

One thing I recall is Lila overheard Circe and her friends talking. The medicine is actually one of her friends, she is hiding it for the friend so the friends mother doesn't find out. Another thing which occured in a flashback scene, check stole the tablet from that preppy guy's car before the car drag raced and hit Silvana. Have they ever said what happened to him after he crashed?

It's late and I should have gone to sleep an hour ago....

Las hijas Capitulo 12
Part 1/2

Priscilla calls Camila while drunk. Camila asks her to grab a taxi and come over.
When she arrives, she is basically passed out, Juan is her driver. Oh, so he’s a taxi driver! Camila recognizes him from that time he helped with her car and she is kinda sorta nice for once, which is a shock for this viewer.
Juan helps Camila get Priscilla out of the car and when he doesn’t accept a tip for helping, Camila offers to exchange numbers and take him out to eat sometimes as a thank you.
Camilla drags Priscilla to a whiny Priscila to her room. Oh, Arturo, how can he go out with that woman? Bohoo! She wants to leave, but Camilla asks her to stay, she’s too drunk, her father better not see her like this.

Arturo tells Graciela that he invited Ofelia and her daughters to stay with them because of their home situation… remember one of the girls donated her blood to save him… And you like the other one, Graciela points out but agrees to allow the Garcias to live with them for a few days.
Paula overhears and comes to mock Arturo when he’s alone, he reminds her she has a shady past, suggests that maybe she was doing more than a model back in the day (paid escort is what I hear). Paula says Leo knows everything about her past and still loves her. Arturo thinks his brother is a fool for being with her.

Mar is packing her stuff, but she is scared about Juan’s reaction when he finds out. She puts the stolen perfume in her bag when Val is not looking. Val is upset because Mar is leaving, but also because she would actually fear Juan’s reaction.

Graciela and Luis both hope that Gloria will be OK.
Luis says he thinks Senora Garcia is a good woman, she does a good job, and more importantly, Mar saved Arturo’s life. Therefor they have to be good people, and he will always be in debt with them.
Graciela feels like something is off about Ofelia, maybe it’s her woman intuition. Luis feels sorry for them, imagine having no home all of a sudden, there is nothing bad in helping people.

Mar and Ofelia have arrived at the mansion and were given a big room (it’s more like a suit) in the servers’ quarters. It’s a huge upgrade compared to where they were before. Mar says it’s only temporary, but Ofelia has big dreams, one of these days they will be in the main house. Nobody will be able to get them out of this place! Mar is not so sure; this is not their home. Why does their mother hate their house so much? Ofelia gets a strange look, just says she’s been through very hard times over there…. Hmmm, what is this about?

Alone at home, Val talks to her father’s picture. She misses him so much. She is also very cold, she is trembling.
Camila runs into Ofelia in the kitchen and is upset when she finds out they are now living in Gloria’s ex room.

Nicolas is burning the midnight oil; he still has some stuff to finish for the next day. Graciela asks him to go rest, thinks he’s only using work to forget about his pain about mom’s death. He always made efforts to be the perfect son, the one who never complains, but allowing himself to feel his pain can be good, there is no need to hide it with her.
Nick rejects her help, gently but firmly. Graciela insists this is not good for him. Alone, Nick has a hard time containing his tears.

Mar is texting someone, Ofelia asks her to call Val on the speaker phone, she’s worried about her. But Val doesn’t answer. Ofelia thinks she’s just as stubborn as her father.

It’s morning now and apparently, the home was so cold during the night, Val woke up with a cough. She is still trembling, maybe she should have slept in some winter PJ’s, not shorts and a tank top. She manages to heat some water on her stove (at least she still has gas) and tries to warm her hands by the fire.

Las hijas Capitulo 12
Part 2/2

Priscilla is waiting for Arturo in his room. He gets out of the shower, still shirtless (1 Patio Point). Priscilla notices the shirt Val gave him, is surprised since this is not his style. He puts on a t-hirt and brushes her off once again, she promises he will be sorry.

Ofelia tries to call Val, but there is still no answer. She is very worried, insists that Mar try to reach her, too. Val is in her bed, trembling, only answering to tell them not to worry. She’s still upset with mom, and she won’t change her mind about living in the mansion. Mar realizes her voice is changed, but Val denies being sick. Don’t call her anymore please. Ofelia asks if she sounded well on the phone, she knows there is no way to force Val to do something she doesn’t want to do.

Juan comes to visit Mar, sees a lot of stuff in front of the house and when Val answers, she explains what happened. She also tells Juan Mar and Ofelia moved into the Portilla mansion. But she has no more answers for him, he better go ask her sister, she’s feeling sick and she is also very tired.
Maybe she should think about changing into one of her father’s comfy shirts, it would surely cover more skin than what she’s wearing now.

Priscilla is having breakfast with the Portillas. Arturo makes it clear she is just a family friend, Camila’s guest. Ofelia comes to check up on them, see if they need something else.

Val is still feeling bad, but at least she’s dressed. The nice neighbor (Amparo) brings her some soup, Ofelia asked her to come check up on her. Why is she still living here? Amparo thinks she could try to understand her mother better, she’s suffered a lot, she was a very different woman when she arrived in the vecindad. Val asks what her mother told her. Amparo evades the question, she had a lot of problems with her father back in the day. And yes, she hates this place, but why that is, it’s Ofelia’s story to tell. One thing is for sure, she loves her daughters.

Paula demands that Mar go clean Camilla’s room. Mar wants to ask her mom first, but Paula makes it clear she’s working for HER, not her mother.
Sure enough, while she is in the room, she sees an outfit she likes and takes a look at it in front of the mirror, just as Camila and Priscila enter. They gang up on her, how dare she touch anything! Mar tries to stand up for herself, but Camila screams that she needs to leave the house. Now! Mar says she is only doing her job, but Camila insists she has no business putting her dirty hands on her clothes. Paula arrives to add her two cents, says that Ofelia and Mar are now living here. Priscila is shocked, when Arturo arrives and actually scolds him.
Luis and Ofelia hear the noise, and come in, too. Arturo says they needed to help them since they have no place to live, Luis says it’s only temporary and then asks Ofelia to solve her home situation fast because he doesn’t want anymore problems. Paula is happy – her little plan to cause havoc worked.

Nick asks Ofelia if Gloria is feeling better, but Ofelia admits she has no clue. Not because they are not close, but she had a lot of work to do. How odd, Nick thinks, he hopes she’s telling the truth. Yes, she is, but with everything that has happened, between work and her home, it was too much for her. She is praying to God for poor Gloria. Nick asks her to keep him up to date.

Val has a fever, so she swallows some pills. She is still wrapped in the same blanket she slept with and coughing badly. She dreams of her father, she is passed out on the cold floor.

Mar is packing her clothes and crying, she’d rather go back to their dirty home. They humiliated her so badly. She always dreamt about having nice things that smell good, what a stupid girl she is. Ofelia asks her to use how bad they made her feel as a tool, learn to stand up for herself. She promises she will one day have everything that she’s ever dreamed of.

Las hijas Capitulo 12
Part 3

Nick and Arturo talk about the designs for the new sportwear campaign (while they are drinking Coke Zero). They need to hurry to choose a model, they are running late. Who will it be? Arturo thinks they can’t hurry the process, they will find the right person. He then checks his phone and says he needs to run, Nick is shocked their reunion lasted under a minute.

Ofelia is preparing lunch and asking Mar to smile, wrinkles are not good for the skin. Alone, Mar tries to call Juan, but he doesn’t answer, so she texts him. He’s upset because she moved out, sends her a “enjoy your new digs” text.

Luis sees Nick work, asks where his brother is. Nick covers for him, says he’s with a client. Luis is happy Arturo is focusing on work, he thinks this new girl is no good for him. Nick is sure Arturo will do good, this is an important project for him, too. Alone, Nick looks worried.

Sure enough, Arturo has come to see Valeria. He knocks on the door, but there is no answer. He sees her through the window, she’s still passed out on the floor. He breaks the door and goes to get her, realizes she’s burning up.

Las hijas Capitulo 12
Part 1

Sorry, I'm posting this out oif order, because google ate my Part 1 of the episode and now I cant go back and delete part 2 and 3 because I posted before remembering to log in and I can't delete an anonymous post.
So this is part , the one I should have started with.

HIJAS

I so enjoyed the recap, Adriana. Thanks.Never expected to see the possibility of Camila/Juan pairing. So where would that send Mar? I so agree about the impracticality of Val dealing with the cold. It was as if it were a strange house she never lived in. Now she has passed out? Guess we were overdue for a hospital trip in the novela. It is starting to sound like Ofelia could have been the victim of domestic abuse? So many questions . . .

Hijas #12

Gracias, Adriana. Good stuff.

Does anyone else think that Valeria would make a better sportswear model than Mar? She is taller and a fitness professional, so that would be highly credible.

Camila is a shrew who needs taming; can Juan play Petruchio? That would be karmic as well as amusing.

Susanna is not likely to like any girl Juan gets involved with.

Prissy is worse than Camila. She has what I regard as toxic femininity. Whiny, spoiled, playing helpless, and clingy. No wonder Arturo is no longer interested in her.

I got the same vibe about Paula's past, but does Leo really know about it?

Hijas

So Juan does have a job of sorts, an Uber/Lyft driver.

Val dragging all their possessions outside was ridiculous. Unless the comforters and sheets were on the floor what are they doing out there. It's not like a sprinkler system sprayed everything. Those comforters would have cocooned her nicely. Must be a safe area they live in since she left windows and doors open overnight. Does Mexico ever get that cold?

Ofelia, perhaps her husband was unfaithful, or Susana was an old flame. I'm sure a man is at the root of their troubles. It would be a telenovela trope if Juan is actually Mar's sister and that is the reason the mother's hate the idea of them being a pair.

I interpreted the Paula interaction with Arturo as perhaps she was a nude model. Call girl is an even worse thing. She would be well served if a former John tries to blackmail her.

PAPAS

Andy, thank you for your excellent recap!

"Circe and Aidé discuss things thoroughly, no judgments, no arguments" was perfect. I'm not a Circe fan but have high hopes she will undergo a personality transplant ere this ends.

You captured the tone and feel of several scenes tinged with much sadness as you noted. Rudolf needs a career change, poor guy. Why do I have a feeling Clara Luz will have an amazing voice? Poor Pipe.

"Checo comes in and, a bit obnoxiously, tells them he is not irresponsible, he wants to succeed in life, not throw everything away with an unplanned pregnancy like they did. Checo might have a point, but he's not a nice guy". Bingo!

I like the way Aide and Tino are becoming closer; a natural unhurried logical progression.

Guzmán seems devoid of any personality; Facundo thinks he's irresistble! Sigh.

Kat, what was the name of the guy who hit and killed Silvana? I can't recall who he is in the story and if he is related to someone...

I will put something up tonight...

Diana

LAS HIJAS

Adriana Noel, thank you for another stellar recap. You wrote this so seamlessly...

"He gets out of the shower, still shirtless (1 Patio Point)" - completely agree!

I'm flummoxed that Camila is capable of unshrewish behavior. Not only was she decent, she was a bit flirtatious toward Juan. Giving him her number? Color me shocked. A completely unexpected plot development, one of the reasons I'm so enjoying this.

That said, Camila attacking Mar so viciously was hard to watch. How long is Ofelia going to allow her daughter to be used as a punching bag? Well, I would be happy to live in the beautiful "servant's quarters" and I can't blame Ofelia for wanting a few nights away from her mold infested "home".

I rather guiltily hadn't considered that Ofelia might have been abused by her husband. Perhaps I've been a bit harsh although to be fair, she is way too dominating and controlling over her daughters' lives.

"I got the same vibe about Paula's past, but does Leo really know about it?" Good point Urban; I doubt it.

Nick's intuition about something being "off" between Ofelia and Gloria was spot on. I'm not yet warming up to him yet though...

I have to smile that Luis is trying to keep the peace and appease all the women living under his roof. An almost impossible task. Such a far cry from Cantu's usual roles!)

Arturo to the rescue!

Las hijas and papas

I commented on both this morning and neither are there. I'm having a similar problem on the Telemundo page. I'm in bloggers cross hairs again. Can someone retrieve them?

O/T

Kat, I see one of your comments on Papas but have asked Rgv Chick to help when she is able.

Diana

O/T. Diana my papas comment this morning was to you about not knowing the name of the guy who had the accident that killed Silvana.

OT

Blogger is not being kind today! Kat, I published all your comments - blogger is really picking on you! I also published your comments on Venganza, so your part 3 published 3 times. I deleted two of them and left the last version of it since you indicated that you had edited it the third time. I hope it has what you want it to have.

Thanks for posting Kat’s comments, Darcy!

Hi, everyone! Hope everyone is staying warm :-)

Las hijas

Cher Adriana, merci for a snappy recap that covered all the comings and goings among the rich and the poor.

Well, in the introduction, Ofelia and her daughters are well dressed , so something is going to happen to raise them up in the world and take them out of that tiny house in the barrio.

What's going to happen when Gloria wakes up? Amnesia?

I expected a Mar- Juan-Camila triangle early on when Juan changed Camila's tire and wouldn't accept payment. Camila looked amazed and smitten..and interested.

Ofelia and Mar are such strong personalities , and Baby sister Mar is pulled back and forth between them . No wonder Mar is drawn to Juan's promises of love and happiness .

That scene of the three spoiled, entitled, rich mean girls ganging up on scared , little rabbit Mar was awful to watch . They tell her to scram; Mom begs her to stay . uff

Hey, now we know why Juan was always out and about in his car! He's an uber driver.

Watching Val cold and sick and alone as awful. Art to the rescue! Perhaps, he has begun his hero's journey and will become a better man.

The barrio houses often have rooms painted that color green and are usually small but cozy and comfy...not this one. . this feels cold, dark, and uncomfortable when I watch scenes in that little place. As big and beautiful as the mansion is, it also makes me feel cold and not at all comfortable . Susan

OT

Thank you for posting Kat's comments Darcy.

It's 20 here Rgv Chick but feels much colder. :)

Diana

PAPAS

Kat, I don't see the comment you said you left me on my question but thank you anyway :)

Diana

Papas

Andy, thank you for your much appreciated recap. You understood a lot more than I did since I can only go by what I see.

Aide calls Tino a " tutor", but tutors teach , and I haven't seen him doing any teaching . I've seen him being charming, playing the drums, being a waiter, being chased and beaten up, and beating up Facundo, ...but no teaching. I think they should be calling him a " manny" (male nanny). Whatever.

Yep, little Pipe was eating peanuts as he sat at a table in that bar .

Do we know what Aide's business makes \does, or is this another mystery company like we had in Receta?

I think that Cecco's father was,Angelique Boyer's brother in one of the Vencer novelas, and I think his sister was in another Vencer in which she was a young girl living alone after her mother died. Alexa Ayala was the villain. Perhaps Jarifa or Diana remembers . Susan

PAPAS

Susan, yes, Chano, Miguel Martinez was in Vencer. In Vencer el pasado, he did indeed play Angelique Boyer's brother. He had a lesser role in Vencer la aucensia.

I laughed at your comment on Tino. Busy guy, but no not much teaching :)

Diana

Thank you so much Darcy. I was enjoying a nice spell of being liked by blogger, then these past 2 days not so much.

Papas

Susan, Maxiclick is like most telenovela "companies", what it actually does will always be a mystery. Kirby used to get very frustrated about this and would ask if anybody ever did any actual "work" in these novelas. I would say much more intrigue than actual work.

Probably the best company was in Vivir de amor, as the corporativo had various business interests, kinda, sorta.

Speaking of Vivir de amor, I wish Mónica was available to show Fede how to really be a vamp and how to rock a tight skirt and not just show off her twins.

:-)

Andy

Las Hijas
Thanks, Adriana, that was a great recap. I am another one surprised that Camila is expressing interest in Juan. The way she treats Mar made me think she had her social boundaries in place. I can’t believe she’s be interested in a lowly cab driver.

Poor Mar, Paula seems to have it in for her. I hope she does leave.

And Arturo to the rescue. But i wish someone would fix the problems in the house. Ofelia doesn’t seem to have plans to leave the mansion.

Liz

HIJAS

Liz, I agree that Ofelia won’t be leaving any time soon.

Las Hijas

Thanks Adriana, for another wonderful recap. I've caught up through ep 11 but Vix hasn't loaded 12 yet, so I haven't watched.

I wish Cami was a little more likeable. I hate it when too many women in novelas are harpy like. Ofelia is clearly a pain, Susana is a nightmare, Paula is a gold digger, Priscilla is the vain little rich girl wanna be gf, all the roles are taken.... couldn't Cami just be a person?? I hate the everyone gain up on the innocent naive good girl troupe. And Val would have Mar's back of course, but she's not there. Ofelia has too much to lose to actually protect her daughter.

I don't think Juan is destined for Mar, I can't imagine where she might end up instead, maybe with whichever brother Val doesn't, but I just can't see that relationship making it. So, maybe Cami/Juan is where we'll end up.

Las hijas

Darcy, I agree . There are too many unpleasant people ...especially women. I like good and bad elements a little more balanced in these shows..

Hmmm.....telenovelas like to pair up folks. Could we see Val and Nic, Mar and Art, and rich girl\poor boy Cami and Juan?
