Escandalo! Arturo Portilla did it again

part 1/3

We go back to Luis by Arturo’s bedside. He gives his son a bendicion, wipes away a few tears and leaves.
Ofelia and Mar are with Valeria, both feeling very relieved. But then Ofelia becomes Ofelia again and starts complaining about the room accommodations to the nurse.

It’s the next day and Paula and Leo are reading in the press about Arturo being in a car crash with another one of his flames, Valeria Sanchez Garcia. Paula is giddy, Leo not so much. The rest of the family (sans Nick) arrives for breakfast and Luis sees the front-page news “New Arturo Portilla scandal”.

Valeria wakes up to find Mar by her side. Her face is pretty messed up, she asks about Arturo and wants to see him. Mar tries to get her to calm down, Arturo just got out of surgery and is stable for now.
Mar helps Valeria go check up on Arturo. She looks at him through the glass window of his room (talk about patients’ privacy).

Nick is in damage control mode, on the phone with someone from work just outside the hospital. Rocio approaches to ask about Arturo, she’s known the entire family for a long time, maybe it’s time they knew who she really was. She used to work for the company before they were born, that’s why she is worried about Arturo. Nick is trying to evade the questions, only says that Arturo is doing well. Then he gets a call from Luis who is not too far away and has seen them talk. He wants to know who the woman is, it could be someone from the press.
Rocio gets scared when she hears that Nick is speaking to Luis, she sees him approach and goes away.
Inside the hospital the doctor tells Nick and Luis that Arturo had alcohol in his system. And yes, the girl coming in his car is doing OK. Luis and Nick wonder what they were doing together. Nick promises to handle things.

Still in front of Arturo’s room, Val feels bad all of a sudden and is about to faint. Mar can barely hold her from falling, a nurse comes with a wheelchair to take her back to her room. Nick sees her being wheeled away.
Paula and Priscilla meet in a hallway. They are obviously not friends, Paula doesn’t lose any time before sharing the fact that Arturo wasn’t alone when he had his accident. Priscilla is bothered, Paula takes things a bit further by saying that her Arturo obsession will cause her harm (which is not false). They are interrupted by Leo.

Ofelia doesn’t find Val in her room, so she goes off on the nurse. Val and Mar come back and Ofelia demands an explanation about Val’s presence in Arturos’s car. But she is called by the Senor Portilla, so she has to stop her interrogation for now.
She finds Luis in the reception area; he’d like to know about Valeria, also.
Oh, poor girl, she feels so weak, still. Ofelia milks the situation for all it’s worth, the doctors say she is OK to go home, but what if she feels worse later?
Luis tries to reassure her, these doctors are the best. What about her other daughter, Mar? She donated blood to his son.
Oh, yes, Mar is an angel, such a giver… They don’t have a lot, but they are always ready to help those in need.
Luis asks if she knows why Valeria and Arturo were together, since she seems to be so close to her daughters.
Ahaha, sure, they are tight, but Ofelia hasn’t had the chance to ask Val about that yet.
Luis reassures her about the hospital bill and asks for them to leave through the back gate, because the press is looking forward to finding out more about the accident. Ofelia says sure, but when she sees the newspaper lead, she gets a funny, mischievous look.
Next thing you know, she goes straight to the press to tell them the girl riding with Arturo is leaving the hospital through the back gate. Gotta love a woman who is always ready to act.

part 2/3

Juan’s mom, Susana, gets a call from Gloria. They start talking and Gloria realizes that Susana didn’t know she was already gone to visit her daughter. Didn’t she recommend Ofelia to work for the Portilla? These are powerful people, Juan vouched for that woman. Not wanting to get Juan into trouble Susana says that she does know Ofelia, she’s a neighbor, which reassures Gloria. But Susana doesn’t look happy when she hangs up.
As Jacinto arrives home, she’s trying to reach Juan, how could he lie in order to help that awful Ofelia? She only wants those women to stay far away from her son. She is furious, she eventually goes to find Ofelia.

Priscilla is with Arturo and Camila joins her. She asks who the mysterious Valeria who was riding with Arturo is. Camila doesn’t know, she’s surprised her brother would go out with such an insignificant woman.

Luis and Graciela are at the hospital cafeteria. He’s still shaken up over Arturo, still missing Cecilia…Graciela points out that the kids need and love him, too. Yeah, sure, but Cecilia made everything better.
And he saw Rocio again, this time with Nicolas. Tranquillo, Graciela says, but Luis is willing to do anything to protect his family. If the boys ever find out, he will lose them forever. If only he knew what his wife spoke to Rocio…
Nick sends them a message saying that Arturo is awake.

Mar asks Val about Arturo, but she says they barely know one another, they met at the gym. Why were they together? Because he was drunk, and she was afraid something could happen to him.
Ofelia arrives to show them the paper with the front-page article about the crash. Valeria is mortified, but Ofelia has never been prouder. Val famous before Mar, who could have thought?
Val is ready to go, so Ofelia tries to put some make-up on her face. When Val refuses, Ofelia uses the lipstick on herself. It made me chuckle, Maria Sorte is really having fun with this character.

Nick talks with a hospital guard about protecting Senora Garcia and her daughters, who are leaving the hospital, they will use the back gate in order to stay away from the press.
Then he sees Val with her family and this time it looks like he recognizes her. Val is getting out of her wheelchair; she can’t wait to leave this place. Ofelia thinks they should enjoy it while it lasts, even Mar is shocked to hear it. Nick listens to the whole exchange, looks unhappy. Val never sees him and this makes it another near encounter between the two. I’m torn, is this our main couple or not?

Just as Ofelia wanted, reporters are standing outside the hospital, and they immediately ask Val about her relationship with Arturo Portilla. She just says she wants to go home, so Ofelia takes over. She clearly states her name and the fact that she is Val’s mom. The press needs to respect the family through these hard times, she has been so worried for her daughter. Val asks Ofelia to stop and leaves with Mar. Alone with the press, Ofelia says her name once again, soaks in her 2 minutes of fame again and goes inside the car, where Val is getting very angry because of the press and because her mom spoke too much. Ofelia asks her to calm down, it’s not like the press cares about her, they’re only here for Arturo. She doesn’t have what it takes to attract this kind of scandal. Such a nasty thing to say to her daughter…

Nick is with Arturo, he scared everyone so much. Why did he get into his car while drunk?
Arturo says he didn’t know how to handle his emotions and apologizes. He asks about Valeria, explains she is a gym instructor. Nick says she is also one of Senora Garcia’s daughters. Arturo had no clue her mom worked at the house.
Luis arrives with the doctor to say that Arturo can go home the next day. Nick says he’s going home to change and bring Arturo some clothes.
Luis asks his son to be more responsible, he needs to grow up. Or else….

part 3/3

Susana comes knocking at Ofelia’s house, with the entire vecindad looking on. Ofelia and her daughters arrive just then, and Susana slaps her.
How could she use her son to get into the Portilla house? Ofelia slaps her back and they start pulling at each other’s hair, pushing and shoving one another. It’s actually very funny, two grown women having a cat fight in the middle of the street. Jacinto and Juan separate them, Susana promises to go tell the Portillas the whole truth. Mar takes Ofelia into the house and Val asks Juan to leave.
Inside the house Ofelia says Susana is only envious because they are doing so well now. And no, she will never be fired because the Portilla owe them now. Mar saved Arturo’s life.
By the way, what was Valeria doing in his car?
Val tells them the truth about what happened, Arturo was too drunk to drive and no, nothing else happened, he is not even a friend.
This is already old news for Ofelia. She now plans to use the fact that Mar donated her blood to Arturo. How will she do that? Just wait and see.

Susana is scolding Juan about recommending Ofelia behind her back. And he did it all for Mar, who is as bad as her mother. Juan asks her to stop, he plans to marry Mar, and he only did what he did for their wellbeing.

Priscilla comes to see Arturo, but he’s not happy to see her, they are still broken up. Priscilla has decided to forgive him and be together again, it’s obvious they can’t stay away from one another. Ohkey…
Leo, Paula and Camila arrive to interrupt this forced reunion.

At night Paula and Leo talk about Val and Arturo. The press took photos of Valeria getting out of the hospital. Paula encourages Leo to go offer his help to his father, who will be so busy handling Arturo’s mess, he won’t have time for anything else. Leo agrees. They shake on it and then he starts kissing her hand. We are spared from seeing more…Thank God, Leo is not my first choice of a Portilla man in a bedroom scene. Nothing against the actor, but Leo is too spineless for my taste and Paula… well, we’ve seen enough of her exposed skin.

Ofelia sees Val’s photos in the press, also, but she’s not happy because she herself hasn’t been photographed. She tells Val her being famous will only last a second, but then sees Mar is sad. She explains she feels bad because of the fight with Susana, Juan only wants them to get along. What if Gloria finds out and then she’s fired?
This will never happen, Ofelia is sure, Luis is very happy with Mar, he will never remove them from the mansion.

The next day Arturo leaves the hospital with his brother, Nick. The press asks about Valeria and he declares for everyone to hear that she is his girlfriend. Nick is surprised, but Arturo looks very proud of himself. This guy!

Adriana Noel, another marvelous recap, so, so witty.

"But then Ofelia becomes Ofelia again Valeria is mortified, but Ofelia has never been prouder and "Val famous before Mar, who could have thought?" were spot on!

OK, "She doesn’t have what it takes to attract this kind of scandal. Such a nasty thing to say to her daughter…" Talk about a "stage mother!" Teri Shields has nothing on Ofelia. What bothered me most was Val literally flinching from the press in the car, begging to go home, Ofelia still working it to get her own ten minutes of fame.

On a lighter note, I was delighted to hear Arturo call Valeria his girlfriend! I'm not sure who she will end up with but this will surely throw a monkey wrench in Ofelia's plans and I couldn't be happier.

Susana is a shrew. I kind of feel bad for Juan.

Cher Adriana, merci. It's so great to read your recaps again . Yes, " this guy." Peniche seems to be having fun playing the bad boy\ playboy\ little brother. He comes off kind of goofy to me.

Likewise, I agree that Marie Sorta is eating up this role as the obnoxious , social climbing , pushy mama. In contrast, Cantu ,well known for his roles as an evil monster , is sweeter than sugar in this one .

The mystery of Rocio continues .. So..she worked for the company. Was she an unwed mother , and Cecelia and or Luis stepped in to adopt her son ?

Jarifa, the episode was so and so, but Ofelia's moments were quite funny. When Valeria refused the make-up she was more than willing to put some on herself. And yes, whe will NOT be denied! LOL

Diana, I was surprised that Ofelia didn't seem to pick up on the fact that if Arturo was with Val in the car something might be going on between the two. Of course nothing is for now, but she just accepted Val's explanation about their connection and moved on to her next plan. She really takes her older daughter for granted just because she prefers to do things differently.

Susan, I've never seen Brandon Peniche play the prota before, but I grew up watching his father's novelas, so seeing him now only reminds me that I'm getting old. Hahaha.

I must confess that I went down the rabbits' hole with this novela. I started checking out the original Turkish version and even if I couldn't understand a word they were saying, most video clips are subtitled in English, so I spoiled myself for a bit before I was able to turn it off.
But I've become obsessed with the story in the process.

Ofelia continues to get in my last nerve. She obviously won't understand that she is embarrassing her daughters. Telling the press to let her take Valeria home was the right thing but the second she grabbed the mike I was ready to brain her.

How on earth does this accident deserve to be on the front page? Mexico City is full of people who are more important and influential than a textile dynasty.

Mar is showing herself to be a decent human being but if she becomes the model there will be question after question about her donating blood. Ofelia would eat that up like so many truffles.

Paula is a major troublemaker and it is past time Leo faced that. When Valeria recovers she will spot that a mile away.

Priscilla disgusts me with her weaponized obsession with Arturo. Based on his current attraction to Valeria it looks like his taste for bimbos is waning.

Adriana, so which version do you prefer? If I run out of things to watch I may give it a try. This is my third show in a row with Peniche as a protagonist. I'm getting burned out on him. I haven't seen his father in anything yet. I'll have to watch some older shows for that I assume. Before I found Caray, Caray I watched recommendations from my daughter in law's sister in law who is Colombian. My first TN was a Venezuelan one and she told me they were crazy, try La Hija del Mariachi and I was hooked....usually the Colombian ones speak a bit slower so I found them easier to understand.

Mar almost looked upset that Val got her minute of fame before her.

In all fairness the lipstick was Ofelia's so her refreshing it was not unexpected.

Kat, I think Arturo Peniche was a galan back in the 90's, you have to go way back to find a novela where he is the prota. He did act a lot in supporting roles, too, I never found him att that handsome.
I prefer the Mexican version of Senora Garcia because I know the actors and I understand the language without subtitles.
But the Turkish version has a lot of heart, too, and you get sucked in immediately. I used to watch them years ago and they still have a special place in my heart.

Urban, I think with a better wife Leo could have turned up decent. But Paula exploits all his weaknesses and he just allows her to.
I don't really get Arturos' sudden attarction for Valeria. He only truly met her the day they were in the car crash and they haven't interacted once since then. This could just be another playboy mood for now.

Kat, Brenden's father was the villain in the first telenovela I wandered into " Alborado. Fernando Colunga,was the galan. Someone named him TBLMOE ( the best looking man on earth .) Lucero was the leading lady. Brendon's father played the prison doctor who helped him when he was beaten up in
prison in "Juana."

Leona is trying to use her daughters to gain a better life. Everybody gets one life to live , and parents can try to guide their children , but they have to let them make their own decisions to get the lives that they want.

I thought of you when I watched a bit of a " Amores Verdaderos" rerun on Uni. I forgot that Susana Gonzales, Majorie Sousa, and Sherlyn were in it .Are you watching these reruns?

Susan, as you know I LOVE Amores Verdaderos!!! Where IS Susana Gonzalez by the way?

No, I'm not watching the reruns but Eduardo Yanez and Erika Buenfil (Marta in La Fugitivas for anyone reading this who might not know who she is) were one of my all time favorite couples. That said, Susana and Francisco Gattorno (Salsero!!) were a veryclose second. :)

I first saw Arturo Peniche in El nombre del amor, the love of Victoria Ruffo who became a priest. He was also excellent in La Malquerida where it was open ended as to wheter he ended up with Victoria Ruffo or not.

Well, I have to say Valeria getting into Arturo's car was a bit much. Let's crash together, why don't we? But why the hell did Ofelia get mad journalists took photos of Val? Did she honestly think they'd be interested in her? I forgot about this scene, but it proves Ofelia is even envious of her own daughter, which goes beyond her schemes and desires to get wealthy.I wonder if she isn't resentful that she has even less money due to having kids? Because she takes Val for granted and uses Mar. It's like she thinks they owe her.
Leo is tiring. I'm further ahead and I'm sick of him. I suppose he does think his father doesn't trust him, which makes it easy for Paula to pretend she is 'on his side' as he thinks he has no one. But he managed to pick the worst partner considering his own issues.
He is so convinced she is on his side that she'd have to actually admit she doesn't give a damn about him for him tobelieve her. It's sad, really.
 

Las hijas # 9 part 1
Arturo elaborates to the press about his girlfriend whom he fell in love with at first sight, he met her at his gym. They have been an item for a few months. Nick ushers him down the steps through the crush of reporters as he stumbled a bit.
At the breakfast table the family discuss Arturo and his dating the daughter of a servant! Of course Paula is the most vocal on the subject. She says she thinks it's best if Sra. Garcia doesn't return, seconded by Leo and Graciela, as Ofelia, in a flattering blush pink colored suit dress, delivers the morning paper to the table.
Nick asks Arturo if it's true about him dating Val, "no" he replies. Then why did you tell the reporters you were? So that is why she was at your hotel the casting night. And she is senora Garcia's daughter.
O is placing things on the table just like Cecilia mention. Paula asks how is your daughter, better but she needs a careful eye kept on her. Paula suggests she should go home and take care of her but O plays the poor widow who has to work to support her family. Luis comes to the table, sits down and sees the news headline " Valeria Sanchez declines speaking after the accident with Arturo Portillo.". She asks if he needs anything else. Prepare Arturo's room, he is coming home today. Ofelia says Thank God....
Val is eating breakfast with a friend at home. Friend asks why didn't you tell me you were dating Arturo! I'm not, I just got in the car because he was drunk (and I was stupid). Ximena, the friend, looks at her slighly and says you can tell me the truth. Ximena says then why did he say you were his novia? Huh??? X shows her the interview by Arturo....then sees that Nick is his brother.
Back at the Portillo table Leo brings up the strangeness of Arturo being in the car with Val and the younger sister being one of his finalists and they are both the daughters of their new (temporary) housekeeper. Luis reminds him that younger sister saved his brother's life and it's just a coincidence. Drop the subject.
Val still is in shock about Nick. She can't believe it, she goes to her dresser looking for the money (that Ofelia pocketed) to discover it missing. She tells Ximena that guy humiliated me. X wants the scoop.
Ofelia and Mar make up Arturo's bed. Mom gives her advice, be attentive, but not too much, etc. Mar says I will do as you say.

Luis receives texts and a call from Priscilla's dad, Francisco, who is upset about Arturo and his treatment of his daughter. Luis says it is between the kids, he does not get involved in their relationships. Looks like the two do business together but Francisco says he's distancing himself from the company and their lifelong friendship.
Ofelia is admiring one of the salons in the house, well except for an ugly bronze statue with no arms, legs (or head) when Graciela enters and pretty firmly puts her in her place.

Priscilla let's herself into the foyer yelling for Arturo, who isn't home yet. She complains to Cami about him and his dating that woman. Cami is clueless. Arturo and Nick arrive and Arturo earns a slap from her as she storms out. Arturo jokes I was expecting a welcome home party.
Mar sneaks a call in to Juan and leaves him a message (perhaps he actually has a job, neither mom nor Mar have had a pick up from him). Ofilia comes in the kitchen and Mar mentions it's getting late, she's hungry. Mom tells her look at all this food. Eat what you want, but just a little bit of each thing to be discreet about it. More advice on Arturo care...
Arturo is climbing the stairs with Nick's assistance continuing to joke. Nick is trying to make him take life more seriously. Graciela comes in the foyer welcoming him home . She tells him to go to his room and rest. Dad will see him there, and he is not happy with you. Graciela also lectures him on making a game of everything. Your actions have consequences and sooner or later you will have to pay (the piper). Nick nods in agreement. Understand? Yes, understood, but life is a game....
 

Las hijas #9 part 2

And just like that it's night and Val, with Ximena,approaches the Portillo estate. Val is on the warpath to confront her mother. She thanks Ximena for accompanying her and they part at the gates. Val calls the house via the intercom demanding her mother.

Luis visits Arturo in his room where he is resting watching TNs. Dad lectures him on his treatment of Priscilla. Now his friendship with Francisco is over. Quit making everything a game. He questions him about Val and says her sister donated blood and saved his life.

Ofelia tries to refuse Val entrance to the house but Val s having none of that.

Arturo fights with Dad and says he can't stand being in this house without mom. Arturo tells him she will never return, things change. Anderson pretty much tells him it's time for you to grow up. (I'm having the hardest time seeing Peniche play a young 20 something when in real life he is in his late 30's). You have to change for your own good.

Val demands her money back from Ofelia who pleads ignorance. Val proceeds to yell in the foyer, which Ofelia tries to stifle, then gives her the money.val tells her she is returning the money, it's not hers. Cue the entrance of Nick who demands to know what all the yelling is about. Val sidles behind her mom (for protection?).

Leo is making business calls in his and Paula's room, patting himself on the back for taking care of things. Paula is mad she has no say in the running of the house. He wisely suggests let's get our own place. Paula says she has stayed by his side because as the eldest he deserves to inherit the house and business. ( I want him to be the cuckoo in the nest just to shut Paula down).

Nick tells Ofelia resolving family matters should be done in the servant quarters. She tries to usher Val out, but Val tells Nick he is the one she wants to see. She takes the money and shoves it in his chest. More verbal fighting, and some shoving on Val's part. Graciela enters wondering what all the ruckus is about. Oh it's you, Arturo is in no condition for visitors. Val says she has said what needed to be said and she's out of there. O tells her to be careful going home. Nick departs too. Graciela tells Ofelia she doesn't believe that her eldest and Arturo are in a relationship ( which surprises O). Graciela then exits and as I turns back she sees the money on the floor. 1000 denomination. I don't think she looked at it when she stole it because she seems a bit blown away. How much is 1000 worth in Mexican currency?

Back to Leo and Paula making out. Can I FF?

Ofelia tracks Nick down to apologize for her daughter but seems to make a comment that someone so refined and educated couldn't treat a woman like he treated her daughter. She is sure there has been a misunderstanding then she tells him you forgot this, and hands him the money. He looks at the money thoughtfully.

Susana offers Juan breakfast, he refuses. She doesn't want them to fight. She paints a not rosy picture of life with Ofelia as a mother in law, and if he and Mar get married and children come....he doesn't want to hear it and leaves.

 

Las hijas #9 part 3
Mar is in her room. She pics up her black leather jacket (which she wore yesterday, I noticed when she was making Arturo's bed, and the day before I should point out). the perfume falls out of a pocket onto the bed. She sniffs it but knows she needs to return it. Mom walks in looking for Val. She wants to know why Graciela thinks Val is dating Arturo. Mar gets her phone and immediately finds the interview on the hospital steps.

Arturo tried to leave his room and the other 2 maids catch him at the door telling him he needs to rest. He is looking for his tablet. They enter the room and search. Leo and Paula walk by and also ask what is he doing up. Looking for my tablet. Paula thinks oops to herself. Leo saves the day and says he has it. Huh? I thought it was mine. I'll go get it.

Susana and her husband talk about Juan and the situation with Mar. He thinks they should explain to Juan something. I didn't quite follow this. Perhaps there is a history between the 2 women.

Nick is setting his PI, or lawyer on Val to find out any and everything about her. Arturo eals in raring to get back to work. For a guy that likely had abdominal surgery to repair internal bleeding he sure is chipper. Nick reminds him the doctor told him to rest. Rest today and you can return to work tomorrow. Arturo scrolls through his tablet photos and sees Mar and says It's her.
Val shows up.to work where the boss fires her for breaking the rules and having a relationship with a client .

Paula is confused as to why Leo returned the tablet ( huh, it's not like they cracked the password code). Leo is playing his cards. Dad is upset with Arturo. He is dating one sister, wants the other as his model and the housekeeper is their mother. Arturo is going to fall! They will learn all his lies.

Arturo searches for Val at the gym where the manager informes him she no longer works there because she broke the rules. Arturo says he'll tell all his friends what a stupid place the gym is because of their stupid regulations.

Val and Ximena talk about her being sacked. How will I pay the rent ( mom and Mar are working now silly). Arturo keeps calling but she won't answer ( how did he get her number I wonder). She goes to the bathroom, leaving her phone on the table. Ximena picks it up and answers. Arturo needs to speak to Val.

Paula reads the daily news about Val and Arturo aloud to herself, I guess for the viewers edification. Graciela wals in and tells her not to worry. She then proceeds to insult Paula.

Val wants to leave the open air restaurant at the country club she and Ximena are at to pursue her job hunt. Ximena stalls her, I invited you. I'll get us another tea. Arturo sits beside Val and says we need to talk. Val wants nothing to do with him. Ximena brings back the tea and tells Val to sit and listen to the man. He heard she was fired and it was his fault. He wants to help her.

Juan calls Mar, love talk ensues. Paula encounters her in the hall and tells her to water the plants. Wait, go clean Cecilia's room.

Val asks Arturo why are you toying with me. I can help you get a job. No thanks. How about being my girlfriend . No again I'm not like all the models you pursue. He tells her he wants someone real in his life like her. And their theme song plays.

Sorry about the typos. Some day I will conquer using notes and copy and paste so I can see what all I write. Auto correct keeps changing and to Anderson if it is the beginning of a sentence and I don't always catch it.

I'm of the opinion Nick will be end game for Val, Leo is not the bio son and who knows about Arturo. Mar perhaps. Any insight on Ximena? Is she one of the instructors or just a childhood friend of Val.

Mar "working" in the house is beyond ridiculous, especially while wearing those tiny skirts. Are those supposed to show her innocence, as I haven't worn such a short thing since I was about 5?

Arturo's sudden interest in Val feels fake. He seemed to enjoy the press reaction to the news of his new girlfriend, I think for now he's only doing it for the fun of it.

I know Val has the feels for him, but my telenovela spidey senses tell me that Nick is the one we should watch for. When I realized she was going to confront him about the money I got the tingles I usually get when I watch a couple I like.

Talking about ages, I do wonder about the casting. Peniche is older than Palomares (they are 37 and 34), but he plays the younger brother. He should be played by someone 10 years younger.
Then again Andres Palacios is still playing 30 years olds and is pushing 50.

Have we talked about the Portilla home yet? It's ridiculously big like all mansions, but all that tile and marble give it sucha cold feeling.
And then you have the Garcia house on the other side of town and it looks so run down, it's a miracle those walls are still standing.

Adriana, With the swipe of an editing pencil the son's ages could have been rectified. Cecelia and Luis should have been married 35 years rather than 25. Then the ages would have been more appropriate, with Arturo just being the perpetual guy who doesn't want to grow up, Nick would have gained plenty of practical experience in the business world overseas (and Leo would have been more justified in being upset at being usurped by the younger brother)and the next generation would have had a more justified eye on the prize of company control a 50 some year old Luis has a good 15 or 20 years , heck 30 years of running the business in front of him. Cami could have been their oops baby, or I really wanted a daughter baby.

Yes the mansion is over the top, but white is so "in" now it works. Ofelia constantly complaining of the damp walls. A dehumidifier and paint could help that, unless it is black mold.

Thanks Adriana and Kat. Two excelente recaps. I got behind but am caught up now. Ofilia is definetly the cómic replief in this show. Loved the fight with Susana. And Susana was right about having Ofelia as a mother-in-law. She would make him miserable.
I think Val and Nick will be the end game, they started off on the wrong side and i feel things will improve between them.
I can’t figure out Arturo. I guess he’s just immature. But I agree they’ll all too old for their parts.
Luis being a good guy is so strange. I keep waiting for evil to show up but I don’t think it will.
The way Ofelia was studying that bill i thought there was something written on it. Maybe she just never saw the large amount before.
Mar just doesn’t seem to have much personality. Although obviously she’s nice she seems to just do what people tell her to do.
I’m enjoying this show.

Liz I am not hampered by expectations of Luis turning bad. This is my first experience with the actor. I really dislike these slick backed hair styles. I have never seen anyone in real life use hair gel like these soaps guys do. All the sons and Val I have seen before. Is Susana 's husband the actor that was Juana's grandfather? Did you watch Juana la virgin, I lost track of who watched what.

I didn't think they would pair up Val and Nick because they were a sweet young couple in " Perdonne" last year . Her rich father ( played by Jorge Salinas) was the villain and didn't want his daughter with a poor guy. However, I think they might be together in this show, too.

Arturo (Brendan Peniche)Was much better suited for his role as a mature, stable beer tycoon in " Juana." Instead of appearing like an immature playboy, he just seems goofy to me.

Hmmm...why did Paula want Mar to clean Cecelia 's room? Is she setting her up to get into trouble ? Well, Mar will probably get caught by someone when she tries to put back the perfume .

It was funny listening to Paula reading out loud to herself. We can all see how Paula uses her lingerie model skills to manipulate her hubby.

Maybe there was a triangle back in the day ...Ofelia, Susana, and Hub.

Kat, yes, Susana's hub was the grandfather in " Juana." This actor has been in many, many telenovelas over the years. Susan

As a retired first grade teacher I found Paula reading out loud very strange. I guess it was done so we would know what she was reading. All I could think was she’s just learning to read.
I had to look up the cast to see that Suzanne’s husband was Ramon Bravo. He looks younger in hijas, but probably just looks healthy vs. dying.

I am enjoying the show but agree with those who have pointed out the brothers are being played by actors a bit too old for the roles, especially Artruo. Speaking of, I'm not really liking any of the bros at the moment. Arturo is spoiled and self centered; Leo has no personality or gumption and Nick seems a bit of a snob telling :"...Ofelia resolving family matters should be done in the servant quarters". But Emmanuel Palomares' roles seem to generally follow that pattern (remember Vivir de amor?) I think he is redeemable...

I see Mar and Juan ending up together although I can't imagine their holiday family dinners :)

I agree with you Adriana Noel that I don't think Arturo has real feelings for Val. He might want to but it's not the real deal. I see Nick with Valeria... Perhaps Jimena for Arturo...

Susan, I think Paula is setting Mar up for a fall too.

Diana, the actors playing Val and Nick were cute together in " Perdonne" , but I was most!y focused on Oswaldo. I have seen online that some of the brothers from Herederas are friends in real life.

What I don't want to see is Ofelia bamboozle Luis and end up the queen of the castle .Luis is grieving and vulnerable. Graciela has her number and Paula does, too. Susan
 

Kat - Thank you very much for the prompt recap of #9. It brings Viewerville up to date with this TN. What evidence do we have for thinking that 'Leo is not the bio son'? Indirectly Luis does treat Arturo and Nicolas with more warmth than he does Leo. Who do you think are Leo's bio parents? Is Rocio linked to his parentage? As for the rest of the characters, only Ofelia is dominating the show. The character is a trip. Her scene with the lipstick was funny. Poor Juan...

Anonymous, I agree with your points about Leo not being the bio son. The only things that points to Nick is how Graciela pointed out to Luis that he was a good son, which made it seem maybe they lucked out by the adoption. The other qualification for Nick to be the adopted is the dark hair and eyes. Cecilia had blue eyes, right? Arturo's blood type seemed to rule him out, but not necessarily. My mother was O - and all 5 of her children were O+. Not that TNs get genetics right. Nothing is more aggravating to me than a brown eyed child born to 2 blue eyed parents....

Leo being the adopted son would be just right, since he feels like he's so important just because he is the first born. As if...
I can only see Nick as a contender because he's really the repliable one, the one his father always seems to turn to.

Susan, I don't know how Ofelia could manage to seduce Luis, her main goal is to use Mar to get to Arturo, she might not care about ever being involved with a man.
