Monday, pt. 1 of 3, Nueva Etapa
.
We start with Hulya in the hospital and Aslan blaming himself for this, he should have checked on her, etc. The doc eventually comes out and tells him she’ll be ok (unfortunately) but needs his support. Then we hear Devin’s thoughts about being children while our parents are alive and needing them. Anyway, Hulya is a master manipulator and someone should murder her.
.
Hulya is back home with everyone helping her in a way she doesn’t deserve. Sehet greets them by saying there is a scorpion in the house and warning Devin to be careful. Sehet may have dementia but she’s gets Hulya in a way the rest don’t. Aslan asks Devin if his mother is really sick, how would she diagnose her if she were a patient. With Dependent Personality Disorder. (Not sure if this is real or a telenovela affliction). When Hulya wakes up, Aslan tells her she is going to therapy, while Devin, Ceylan and Nedret listen in at the door. Aslan tells his mom he wants her to be well and she actually agrees to therapy. Aslan sees all the eavesdroppers when he leaves her room and orders everyone to therapy. Devin later asks if he’s serious and he is. They’ll get one for his mom and someone else for them. Then Devin tells him not to talk about all the criming because it’s embarrassing (not to mention illegal, which doesn’t seem to be a problem for her). He smiles at this. Allah help the shrink they choose to treat this family.
.
Aslan and Devin go outside only to be greeted by Ergun who demands to talk to her. He’s all upset and tells her he’s not the terrible man she thinks he is. Do we believe this? No. Neither does Devin. She leaves him there and Aslan orders him out. As he leaves, he talks to himself blaming Hulya Soykan for this. (He’s obviously not blameless but if this gets Hulya murdered then fine).
.
Back inside the house, Nedret and Turgut’s future wife whose name I can’t remember chat. I didn’t catch the whole conversation except the part where Nedret asks her if she’s in love with Turgut and she says no. I hope she’s lying. Then the woman (Asuman?) expresses sympathy for Hulya and Nedret tells her not to bother because look at her. Hulya has come downstairs looking just fine. Nedret has her number too but Hulya has to get in a couple digs about Bedri leaving before she goes off.
.
Ergun stops the car with Hulya and demands compensation from her for the pain she’s caused. He wants it for his lsot reputation and all the lawsuits against him. Also his wife and son that we never really got to know have left the country. Hulya is exactly as sympathetic as you’d expect, so not at all. As they drive away, Hulya orders her man to follow Ergun.
.
Nese reads about Ergun’s wife and son having moved to Miami and she laughs. Rude, but understandable. Meanwhile, Devin and Yagmur talk about their father, I think that he’ll be fine, while Nese continues to laugh about his life being all messed up.
.
Nedret calls Bedri to ask where he is. He’s confused about what Hulya said and Nedret tries to tell him that what she does. Her words were meant to separate them. He needs time. And when he hangs up, Ilyas is there to talk to him.
.
Hulya’s charity has been calling the house and talking to Turgut’s woman (sorry). Nedret gets an idea and finally takes the call, surely planning something nefarious.
.
Ilyas shows Bedri the video his guys secretly took.
Monday, pt. 2 of 3
.
Ilyas has pulled out a knife and Bedri asks if he’s going to kill him. Ilyas says no, but Bedri will take care of the traitor. Ilyas laughs and asks Bedri if he’s wondering why he won’t kill him. Because they are the same, says Ilyas. Then Ilyas offers to mentor Bedri. Serap is listening below the two men and when Bedri leaves, she goes up to her father and asks what he’s up to. She says she lives for one thing and that’s to get him to see her, and for that to happen, he needs to live. She’ll do whatever it takes. Cihan has entered the conversation as she leaves and he also asks Ilyas what’s going on.
.
At the marina, the Lads tell Aslan they have a little problem with Seyfi because he wants more money. Eko wants to beat him up. But before anything can happen, Bedri shows up with his little lads and wants to talk to Aslan.
.
Devin is working and Hulya shows up there, smiling in a not at all creepy way.
.
All the boys at the marina talk. Aslan wants to know why Ilyas hasn’t killed him yet? There is some verbal measuring of man parts, but Aslan and his crew leave and warn Bedri not to trust Ilyas. Bedri and HIS crew leave and want to find Seyfi.
.
Hulya wants Devin to be her therapist. Ha! Devin says that would be unethical but congratulates her on the choice to get therapy. Then Hulya asks, do you know how I was known in Adana? As a murderer. Her father dies and it was her fault. She tells the story of how after two sons, he wanted a daughter. She was the light of his life but she thinks she only darkened it. He was a teacher. They were happy. She was 16 when she met Yusuf and fell in love. But her father didn’t want her to marry Yusuf and created a scandal, so she ran away with Yusuf.
.
Ilyas and Cihan talk about how he sees Cihan as something more than a son-in-law and wants to tell him something.
.
Hulya continues with her story. Seems they couldn’t get married unless she had a baby because she was a minor. (Is that right? Feel free to correct). But that’s when Yusuf killed the parents of Cihan and gave him to Hulya to raise. (This is so messed up if it’s true). How could she tell all this to another therapist, she asks Devin? And maybe Devin will stop seeing her as such a villain, but asks Devin to think about this and let her know. Aslan shows up and asks why she’s there and Hulya tells her Devin is her shrink because she will not tell family secrets to anyone else. Aslan flips out as is appropriate as Hulya sashays out of the chaos she created. Devin tells him it’s not what he thinks. I don’t think she ever said yes or no to Hulya being her client, unless I missed it. Then Devin gets all happy because she remembers her husband is there to pick her up to go to their therapy session and they do that cute back and forth thing as they leave.
.
Hulya calls someone from the charity to gather the board, and finds out someone has already called the meeting and Nedret is there. Hulya is on her way.
Monday, pt. 3 of 3
.
Ilyas spills about Bedri being his son and just finding out. Cihan congratulates him and says that Serap doesn’t know. Ilyas asks Cihan to take care of both his kids.
.
One of the kids is working with a generic bad guy to do something to her new brother when he goes to visit the neighborhood. We don’t know what yet.
.
One of Bedri’s boys found Seyfi and has a plan to meet with him without Seyfi knowing. Eko comes over to talk to Bedri and notes all the meat on the grill. I think the talk of meat is probably stupid, and then Eko asks what Bedri was doing with Yagmur and ends up threatening Bedri, who asks what he’s going to do about it? They are both being dumb.
.
At Devin and Aslan’s therapy, they are still arguing about Hulya. Devin says she is NOT treating Hulya, but they still chip at each other about that and their own session. He new therapist shows up, a woman this time, and they get to work.
.
At the charity board, Nedret gets future Mrs. Turgut to take a pic of her getting an award. Nedret is gracious and asks her to tone it down when she lays on the gratitude too thickly. Asuman is her name! Some chatting and laughing among the board, but that is ruined when Hulya shows up. Nedret welcomes her.
.
The new shrink asks Aslan about his relationship with his mother. He feels like they are focusing too much on him and his family and not the two of them. The shrink explains why and she sounds like she might be able to handle these two, mostly Aslan. He feels like they are talking to each other, maybe feeling like they are ganging up on him. Doc Shrink asks when he last talked to his mother, really talked to her. He brings up the police station and Devin puts her head in her hands. Doc Shrink gives him homework to talk to his mother. He’s not happy. Then she tells Devin that she’ll be there too, and now they are both unhappy.
.
Hulya yells at the board about Nedret. Nedret points out in front of everyone that while she’s been at the office every day, she hasn’t once gone to see Leyla. Her family has been neglected. Hulya is annoyed and wants the board to return the money Nedret gave them. Some woman on the board tells Hulya that they are going to elect a new president and she’s welcome to run if she wants. Someone else tells Nedret she could run too. Fun! Nedret is all in for this, which is probably the point of her going to this meeting in the first place.
.
Devin agrees to do the homework btu Aslan says nope! He wants to set another appointment for tomorrow to talk about Devin’s father. He wanted therapy and he’s just so annoying about it. But sounds like they are taking Hulya out to dinner. Surely this will go well.
.
Maybe everyone can pull a Murder on the Orient Express on Hulya. It would be justified.
.

Monica gets the full story about her birth from Fernanda. Monica wants nothing to do with her or Eugenio. She can never forgive her for Alonso's violation. Fernanda tries to explain she never would have condoned rape and drugging since she suffered molestation since the age of 9. Moni a tells her you want others to suffer because you suffered and gets up and leaves the restaurant.
Alfredo wants to find out who was responsible for Alonso's castration. He is hiring the best Dr to see if anything can be done for him. Alonso would rather be dead.
Gabriel has no sympathy for Alonso and tells Elisa the same.
Looks like the plan to kill Brenda's parents is being set up for next week. Of course the dastardly duo, Rafita and Miguel are the hit men.
Paty calls Erika about the real Francisco. Erika asks where did you hear that, straight from his mouth. And he called me Paty Sonsa. As Erika repeats it, Ana gives a half smile.
Marcelo and Francisco discuss business at the office. They are not in the know about Alonso yet .
Adelberto and Eugenio' also discuss business and the ruling of the judge next week in his case. As soon as he wins he will get his needed heart surgery. They changed the subject. Adelberto says I heard you changed your will. Yes. My heirs are Monica and you ( I think ).
Erika tells Ana Joseph Price ( the teacher) is interested in her. I think Ana says guys like him are just looking for an easy lay and I'm not falling for it.
Elisa visits Alonso and tries to comfort him. Hed rather be dead he continues to wait. Besides I'm going to jail if Monica denounces me.
Fernanda calls Francisco that she told Monica who wants nothing to do with her.
Looks like Rafita is trying to shake down Gabriel for some money. Not sure if it's blackmail or wanting an advance on next week's job.
Elisa tells Roberto ( still undergoing his chemo treatment in the hospital) about Alonso. He thinks it was a vengeance castration and she agrees. She leaves ( probably to look for Tania). Roberto calls Fernanda about Alonso. Flashback, Roberto tells the Dr not to give out any of his health information to anyone. ( I guess he is pretending about the severity of his illness). He is finagling a way to stay at the big house I think.
Sebastian returns home and tells Monica about Alonso.
Looks like the plan is to rob Brenda's parents house and kill the parents.
Yup, Elisa confronts Tania about Alonso.
Francisco may be cutting Fernanda off if she won't denounce Eugenio in the death of his grandmother.
Monica tells Sebastian about her biological parents.
Claudia and Ana seem to be helping each other talking about staying clean.
Tania tells Elisa she feels guilty. If only she had gone out with him last night rather than sending him off because she had a headache.
Roberto goes to visit Alonso. His new refrain is I'll kill whoever did this to me.
Dr. Mirna counsels Fernanda as Francisco counsels ( tries to justify Fernanda) Monica. For Fernandoa it's all about Eugenio's riches and she wants a part of them if only she can win Monica over. Francisco says he knows Fernandoa very well ( Marcelo says they are romantically involved) Sebastian says so Moni was right! She shakes her head in disgust.
Tania visits Alonso bearing balloons and snide remarks.
Ana and papa talk.
Mirna and Fernanda continue there talk.
Kat in SC: Howdy from the Alamo City. Thanks for the recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts (it'll be super-short).
*Looks like the beginning of the end for Daddy & Mommy Ferrero is getting closer. Once that's done, Brenda: you are NEXT to die too.
*How long before Tania joins the Body Count ? Now that Gabriel knows who castrated Slick Alonso, will he hire the thugs to go after Tania too ?
*Told y'all Mooching Roberto is FAKING it: He's still determined to keep Gullible Elisa by any means necessary.
*Claudia & Ana discussing staying clean: What could possibly go wrong ?
*Dr. Mirna needs to answer for her complicity in the crimes against humanity too. I should note FL has the death penalty: it'll be interesting to see who will get the lethal injection first ?
*Francisco is still a STUPID idiot.
K, thank you so much for your snappy recap as our show boils and bubbles .
Hulya surely took a risk making that suicide attempt and has popped back up just as grim and determined to control everyone in her orbit by guilt ,bribes,, threats, or whatever it takes except for calm , clever Nedret , who seems to be playing the long game .
I wish I had kept a count of Hulya's countless array of pant suits . She seems to have an endless supply in every color of the rainbow. Hulya has definitely crafted " a look." Susan
For those that watch these Turkish TNs, when the actors voices are dubbed, are they dubbed by other actors or do the Turkish actors speak Spanish also? I think some of the characters ( Aslan and Devin I'm looking at you) wouldn't be as annoying to me if they had a different voice speaking the lines. Also, since the main actor is known to some, is the dubbing done by the same voice in different TNs?
So Devin's dad no longer has his son around so Devin so he wants to mend fences with Devin. Poor Yagmur is always the outcast in his life.
I don't watch these in the Turkish version, but these actors are being dubbed by someone else. And what’s really strange was hearing “Hulya’s” natural voice! It’s much higher that’s the dubbing and not at all what I expected.
K
Gracias, K. "Anyway, Hulya is a master manipulator and someone should murder her." Hah! I second that motion.
Serap moves fast. If I got it right, she's put a hit out on Bedri.
I'm not buying everything Hulya told Devin in therapy. For her own sanity, Devin better refuse another session.
SED VENG....
KAT..SC...THANKS FOR RECAP..
.....
IT HELPS ...The time is too late for me..so recapps help..
I was laughing my behind off with the Tania / Alonso story line.. I am so cynical.. but its hilarious to me!!!!!!!!!..
I have lots more to comment but I will save for tomorrow!!
hahahahahahah ALONSO-ALONSO..POOR WASTE OF A 'JOHNSON' ALONSO ALONSO..s..hahahahaha-yuck-yuck chuckle snort heehaw ..lollolollol...it tickle me to see.........[.... this outrageous-story line] ... him suffer...he wants to unalive himself....Works-for-me..!!.. have at it.....we have no idea how many other people Alonso [three earring on the left-a -sure ..'freak-flag'... insignia/signal ] has drugged and raped!!!!!
THIS scene has a lot of men's teeth on edge...but compare to how these novellas do women...it's about time....!!! Works for me!!
Another really witty and clever recap, K. Thanks so much! I always look forward to your zingers. Yes, indeed, someone should murder her. Aslan absolutely drove me nuts last night, falling completely into the trap. It never seems to have crossed his mind that the whole "suicide" attempt was to re-attach the umbilical cord.
I loved "Allah help the shrink" who treats this family. Also: "if this gets Hulya murdered, fine". Me too.
Nese is entitled to some schadenfreude, of course, but her cackling over what's happening to Ergun is still creepy.
Ilyas kind of elaborated on he and Bedri being the same, that they have to be first. He's right. That stupid 2 on Bedri's neck has been explained by him as everyone else looking at his back realizes their place in the hierarchy. And he's been sizzling with rage about Aslan's putdowns. What Iyas didn't seem to grasp is that Bedri won't be second to Ilyas either.
Are we supposed to believe what Hulya says about being the adored daughter? I don't think any person who had 16 years of feeling special and adored would become the monster we see now.
They seem to be softening up Ilyas a lot lately. He's fatherly with Cihan. He didn't throw Nedret under the bus when he had the chance. I don't think Serap's hit is going to work. It's too soon to see the last of Bedri. I won't be able to stand it if he somehow gets Yagmur into his clutches. And, speaking of Yagmur/Bedri, I'm pretty sure Eko threatened Bedri's life if he keeps seeing her. They've definitely turned Eko into a classic "dog in the manger".
Thanks very much, K., for another helpful and delightful recap. I especially enjoyed your running commentary about Hulya. And I loved your statement "Hulya sashays out of the chaos she created."
Speaking of Hulya, one thing I noticed is that when she was on the floor after collapsing from the pills, her normally very wrinkled face suddenly showed no wrinkles. Once she was recovering in the hospital and at home, the wrinkles were back. I tried to think of some profound meaning to this, but I decided it was just an oversight on the part of the make-up crew.
I don't know much about couples therapy, but my assumption is that it can only be useful if both parties want it or at least are open to it. So I'm somewhat surprised that Devin would be so insistent on trying it not just once but twice, given Aslan's negative attitude.
I'm really eager to see what happens with Serap's attempt to do in Bedri.
I'm also eager to see whether Ergun is blaming Hulya because he doesn't want to accept blame himself for what's happened, or because Hulya really is to blame in some serious way.
As for Yusuf's killing Cihan's mother right after she gives birth...the plot thickens and sickens.
Thank you for the recap, K. You covered everything beautifully.
There's always someone plotting to kill someone, now it's crazy Serap against Bedri. Don't think Ilyas would approve. I could see Ilyas killing her for that and Cihan killing Ilyas...and taking over. That would be wild. I have not watched ahead, so if it turns out that way, it'll be the about first time I guessed correctly about a dizi.
Sure, dinner with Aslan and Hulya will clear up communication issues between them...they have a lot more problems than that. And Hulya is master of miscommunication, aka lying.
Beth S
Thanks, Juanita, for refreshing my memory with the mention of Yusuf killing Cihan's mother. I'm pretty sure they showed that. They showed Yusuf killing his father in the foyer of the house and then searching for the mother. She was cowering in a closet, visibly pregnant. I guess killing the innocent fetus was a bridge too far for Yusuf. But, after the baby was safe in the world, he did kill her IIRC. Life would have been a lot better for Cihan if he'd dropped him off on the mosque steps or an orphanage if he knew of one.
Thanks, K. I must remember not to eat or drink when I read your recaps. I narrowly avoided a spit take when I read “There is some verbal measuring of man parts”.
Of course, I looked up Dependent Personality Disorder. I don’t think Hulya totally fits the diagnosis. It said something about submissiveness.
Aslan is a total idiot.
I’ll never be sympathetic to Hulya. She said she was 16 when she fell in love with Yusuf, and she became a Soykan when she was still a minor. To the best of my knowledge, she didn’t say she needed a baby to get married. She realized Yusuf was a monster after he killed Cihan’s mother. After that, I guess she had some regrets and started up with Ibo.
K, you’re right about dubbing. I think they try to find a good match, but it doesn’t always work well. I think the best dubbed voice in Familia is Cihan. It’s very close to Nejat’s. I can’t fully enjoy watching Engin Akyürek in a dubbed dizi. He's hard to match. So sweet.
#56 – Part 1 of 3
We begin with the last bit of Aslan’s asshattery at the therapy session. He refuses to have dinner out with his mother and his wife. And then that’s what they’re doing in the very next scene. It’s pretty awkward. Hulya mentions that Urla is far away; Aslan replies it’s not. She asks if he’s really leaving?
Yagmur’s doorbell starts ringing over and over. It’s Ergun, drunk off his keister. It looks like her spine stiffens a little, saying Devin and her mother wouldn’t forgive her for letting him in.
At the restaurant, the meal is over. Aslan is paying and Hulya goes to the Ladies. She starts watching a party in an adjoining space, singing along with (mercifully) a Turkish song. Devin has to beg stick-up-where-the-sun-doesn‘t- shine Aslan to let Hulya enjoy the music and briefly join the party. The crowd is mostly older. Hulya joins in dancing. Hulya has a beer!
Of course, Yagmur eventually lets Ergun in. She opens the door abruptly, and he surges in and falls, completely passed out. Come on, Yagmur, drag him outside and leave him there!
The dollar store guys hold onto burned-face guy while Bedri stabs him with the knife his dear papá gave him for that purpose.
Yagmur calls Bedri, asking for help. He says he’d go even to hell for her. [I think that’s already in the cards for you, Bedri.]
Aslan and Devin are enjoying Hulya’s dancing. She approaches and tells them they’re the perfect couple. [Yep! What Aslan said when they entered the party is true; they entered a parallel universe.]
When Bedri arrives after Yagmur texted him where to come, she tells him she didn’t know who else to call. He sees Ergun face down on the sofa. He says he’ll take care of it. He asks about security cameras in the building and is told there are none. He calls one of his cheap thugs asking him to buy the following. Ergun suddenly stands. Bedri kicks him right in the stomach, knocking him back on the sofa. Yagmur calls him an idiot and leans over, saying: ¡Papá!
Bedri: “Hadn’t you killed your father?” Yagmur: “Why would I kill my father?” Bedri: “Well, because he’s your father!” This whole thing is pretty funny. Bedri was setting up a body cleanup, assuming Yagmur felt the same way as he had about his father.
Hulya goes to the restroom. She seems to have picked up an admirer on the way back (guess there’s no accounting for tastes). Aslan and Devin are slow dancing and again heating each other up. [I’m expecting an announcement soon; will they show her throwing up as the first clue?]
Yagmur and Bedri drag Ergun into a bedroom and throw him on the bed.
While Yagmur and Bedri talk on the sofa, the scene changes to Eko seeing that Elif is wide awake. She says what we all think: his heart is still in the past. She says they’re like two strangers in the bed. Eko apologizes. Goes in for the kiss. Meanwhile, I see the softer side of Bedri we’ve only heard about from dondi’s cut scenes. He says, if she’d have killed her father, he’d only have called the police to say she’d stolen his heart. There’s a tender kiss, initiated by Yagmur. Then some warm hugs.
#56 – Part 2 of 3
Aslan can’t seem to go half an hour without being an ass lately. He gets all defensive of his mother’s honor. He says that her admirer is practically a walking cadaver. He scares the guy off.
Cihan tells Serap, after getting into bed with her, that he is more scared than he has been for a long time. The reason is that now he has something to lose. He’d like them to go away and live a simple life. Serap: “What about the revenge?” He replies that the best revenge is being as in love as they are. He moves in for a kiss, and she backs away slightly. Cihan: “Why are you always nervous?” [I’m wondering if this marriage has been consummated.] She tells him she’s sorry. “Who did you so much damage? She doesn’t answer. He says they could seek help, but she says gently that she doesn’t want to talk about it. He ends up just cuddling her.
Turgut is still looking for Seher’s scorpion when Asuman makes a move on him, after first admiring his tush. When he asks if she’s flirting, she replies that she’s not flirting, she’s stalking him like a lioness. She jumps right on him. Turgut hears a sound, says it’s the boss, and escapes.
Hulya is a lightweight. She’s drunk and singing through the house after one beer. Nedret sees this, disgusted. Then she asks Asuman if she ever told her el cuento del alacrán y el sapo (the scorpion and the frog). [Pretty sure you all know that one, so I won’t type it in.]
Aslan wakes up saying it will be a wonderful day. No one can bother us. Devin says they’ll get the court’s decision about Leyla today.
Yagmur provides her father with some Alka-Seltzer for his hangover. He gets maudlin about not having been there for her and for Devin. [I’m not buying this. His cruelty to Yagmur was unforgivable.] He gets a text that his partner (in the clinic) is going to sue him.
Nedret warns Devin not to get too close to Hulya.
Ergun has texted Hulya about the lawsuit, still wanting money.
Nedret tells Hulya to stop playing with Devin. “I won’t let you harm her. Your son and daughter-in-law might go for your act, but I won’t."
Turgut gives Aslan a flash drive. Bedri arrives home, and Aslan asks him to come to the marina in the afternoon to see a movie and talk business. Bedri agrees and then goes inside and snubs his mother.
I always enjoy the banter between Cihan and Serap. She accuses him of snoring. Nedret calls Cihan, upset, and asking Cihan if Bedri has a bed in Ilyas’ house. She tells him she won’t break the dinner table, but she’ll take down Ilyas’ roof. Cihan tells her the tie between Ilyas and Bedri is stronger than a rope. Cihan then pretends his battery died.
Devin and Aslan have their second couples therapy. Aslan is slightly less of a jerk this time, but only slightly.
#56 – Part 3 of 3
Hulya is plotting to win the presidency of the charity she founded when Ergun arrives yelling at the top of his lungs. After she dismisses some people, he tells her he could wind up in prison. [I thought Ergun was smarter than to believe Hulya would throw a glass of water on him if he were on fire.] When she says there’s nothing she can do, he pulls out his phone. He apparently recorded Hulya when they were conspiring. “I want you to change the results of the exams. Both her marriage and the chance to be a mother must be destroyed.” We hear Ergun say he’s out of it. She insists he comply. She’s done things to fix the irregularities at his clinic. He says he can’t do that; it’s his daughter. She gives him a day. “Either your daughter’s marriage is destroyed or your life.” Hulya is actually speechless.
Back to the session. Devin is asked to recall a happy time with her father. She says they didn’t have that kind of relationship. But after thinking she remembers his taking her once to patinar (ice skate). She was around 6 or 7. She got the hang of it quickly but watched her father a lot. Then she finally did fall, and her father fell trying to help her up. They laughed so hard. She continued purposely falling, over and over, to get him laughing. She begins to cry. She says that, when she got home, she was covered in moretones (bruises), but her father put ointment on them. A lovely day, she says.
Ergun tells Hulya to pull some strings or else Aslan and Devin will hear the recording. [Ergun, better run to the bank and put that phone in a safe deposit box.]
Ergun has been calling both Devin and Aslan. Aslan reminds Devin how she kept telling him to try with his mother. She should call him. She doesn’t reply either way.
Nedret comes to see Ilyas, calling him Black Ilyas. Kiymet looks on, maybe planning to put some beans on to soak. Nedret rages at Ilyas for telling Cihan (about being Bedri’s father). Ilyas said he did it to protect their son. When she asks from whom, he replies that it’s from his daughter. He says she plans to eliminate him. Ilyas says he has a goal: to win over his son, and her as well. He had to tell Cihan. “My own daughter wants to kill my own son.”
The slowest assassin in Turkey keeps moving around and pointing his gun until Salih bashes him over the head with a big stick.
Nedret leaves Ilylas’ house just as Aslan and Serap come home. Kiymet comes out saying Ilyas has never been able to lie to her. “Those embers in your heart from years ago have burned again! How can you bring a serpent like that to our home?” Serap asks the same thing.
Bedri is sitting beside Aslan on a sofa at the marina, I think. All five henchmen from both sides look on. Bedri smirks. Aslan tells him it’s a good flick. He’s seen it once and wants to do so again. We see a kind of fuzzy image on Aslan’s TV screen. We see a guy in a tan coat kill someone with help from some other guys. Bedri’s smirk is gone. “What are you going to do?” Aslan says he won’t give it to the police, rather to Bedri’s mother. Bedri: “What do you want?”
I have to confess I backed this scene up and re-watched quite a few times. Sometimes the Spanish subtitles are incomplete. I thought I heard Aslan say something about dieciocho (18) and couldn’t quite hear the whole sentence. At first I thought he was referring to Bedri killing his father 18 years ago and that Iskoc and Turgut somehow got a copy of what happened. But the scene, and Bedri’s tan coat, looked exactly the same as the scene shown earlier in the episode. It’s remotely possible Bedri could have killed his father as young as 12 or 13, but I’m now pretty sure it was the most recent murder.
Dammit, they didn’t show the court thing about Leyla!
Kat in SC: Looking forward to seeing your recap of last night's episode.
Should we do the Brenda Death Watch ?
Novelera, I watched this episode in real time for a change! I enjoyed the dinner out. Devin talking about the weather, Aslan about sports. Uncomfortable chit chat to pass the evening almost like they were strangers to each other.
I have a question. Hulya asks about the distance to their new home, he says it is far away. Devin has a new office in the new town right, the cabin looking loft, that Aslan arranged for her to start her new practice. I was surprised she already had a client, that just happened to be Hulya in the previous episode. So I would then assume Hulya knows how distant their new home is, or am I confused.
So Yagmur's dad ( I keep forgetting the minor characters names and I get tired of scrolling back to look them up) in a passed out drunken stupor falls into Yagmur's apartment. There was no landing at the door. He so easily could have fallen backwards when she shut the door on him in the beginning. Did Bedri realize it was her father when he saw a dead guy on the couch? I had the impression he didn't and just wanted to protect Yagmur from some heinous crime. Yagmur must be pretty strong if she managed to drag dad to the couch and get him off the floor.
I also wondered about lightweight Hulya after 1 beer. Something Nedret said makes me think she was faking her inebriety.
I so wanted to write up observations as I watched the show and post before your recap as I forget what made an impression at the time of watching if I wait till the next day.
Dr. Mirna counsels Fernanda. How can you say you are in love with Francisco but threaten to kill him and Elisa if they get back together. You promised no more killing! Fernanda complains it's all the fault of Francisco seeking justice for his grandmother's death. Let her rest in peace already! ( This scene was actually rather funny).
Same song and dance from Francisco defending Fernanda to Monica and Sebastian. Eugenio killed Manuela, Ana killed Maria Laura. Getting so tired of this blindness on his part. He is trying to blame Fernanda's problems on Eugenio's brainwashing of a vulnerable girl ( he has a point here, but she is no longer a child. )
Roberto continues to pull a martyr act with Elisa feigning great pain as he packs his suitcase.
Ana tells dad about Francisco saving her. She goes on to say she is in love with him. Elisa is married. Don't send Roberto away and destroy my only chance of happiness with Francisco. ( Grow up Ana, this guy is not worth it. Find someone better!)
Well the new maid is seen again and Claudia is filling her in on Paty being her sister as once again they fold napkins at the dining room table. (They are always folding napkins. ). Ah yes, she loves being the lady of the manor. Call her Lady Paty. So Paty comes in to discuss the dinner menu and new maid says in all seriousness, yes Lady Paty, which makes Paty question her. Claudia explains that's her name now, or rather Lady Paty Sonsa. Ouch.
Mirna tells Fernanda get out of your fantasy world, no more blood on your hands, you don't love Francisco but some imaginary relationships. Fernanda says Eugenio's right. I'm not able to love anyone.
Francisco wants Monica to give her mother a chance. She says my ( adoptive) mother died and I grieved immensely for her. Fernanda will not get a second chance from me.
Paty sends the new maid to the kitchen, but how do you want to be addressed? Senora Patricia. Claudia guffaws. The two sisters continue to snie with each other. Claudia parting jab , you have gained our total indifference.
Ignacio tells Francisco he is finding the best lawyers, I think to try and take Eugenio down for killing his grandmother.
Fermin and Marcelo have male bonding time. Marcelo is thinking about getting back in the dating pool. He envies Fermin's happiness.
Elisa apologizes to Tania for thinking she was behind Alonso's maiming. On another topic, I asked Emilio out for a date, except he is actually Francisco.
Mirna continues her counseling. You need to find your inner heart and goodness inside you that Eugenio tried to squash. You need professional help. F: I'm not crazy. M: no your heart and soul are sick and they need healing.. (Mirna actually is a pretty good therapist. She missed her calling).
Granddaughter is being demanding. The rest of the recap will be brief.
Francisco tells Ignacio tells about Elisa. He asks, she accepts your Fernanda relationship. He says she doesn't know about that yet.
Marcelo offers Fermin a job. He is reluctant but agrees in the end, I think.
Gabriel is insatiable, Brenda says last week was my fertile time. Gabriel says that would solve the problem with the parents.
Monica and Sebastian relay the news to Alfredo that Monica is the biological daughter of Fernanda and Eugenio. Gabriel and Elisa come in and learn about it also.
Eugenio tells Mirna at dinner that Fernanda is a devil and it takes on to know one. He is going to welcome Monica with open arms and Fernanda will be the outcast in their little family.
Gabriel continues to taunt Alonso.
The 3 amigos sing happy birthday to Monica off key in English. She takes a call from Tania who is standing by her man in his time of affliction.
Ana tells Elisa that Roberto's cancer has spread, he only has a few months to live. Your place is at his side. (Is this her lie or is it what Roberto has told her). She then informs Elisa about the other woman in Francisco's life. Fernanda.
Kat in SC: Thank you very much for your recap of last night's episode. It seems everyone is still STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!
*Mooching Roberto still FAKING it. With about 43 more episodes left (assuming it's 95 episodes), the sooner he meets his Karma anvil the better.
*Brenda: You are a DEAD WOMAN WALKING & you have no damn idea.
*Ana in love with Francisco: OMG. Really ? The incompetent jackass Protagonist doesn't need to get a happily ever after, but we all know he will UGH.
*Whoever is the executive producer needs his or her head examined ASAP.
*Lady Paty LOL. She needs to get a life & a new job ASAP. What's up with the folding of the napkins ? Claudia sure seems to do that a lot at the del Pino family mansion.
*Dr. Mirna missed her calling indeed. I agree with you Kat in SC: she'll have to pay the piper once the downfall of the villains begin.
Novelera, many thanks for this terrific recap! I found it very helpful, and also great fun. I loved your many delightful and snarky remarks, starting with "Devin has to beg stick-up-where-the-sun-doesn‘t-shine Aslan to let Hulya enjoy the music and briefly join the party."
Wow, that was quite a scene with Hulya at/after dinner, dancing and singing. Perhaps it was the rather large mug of beer that released her long-hidden other self. Though you commented on how little beer it took to get her drunk, I have to say that these days, it would have made me drunk as well.
I loved your observation about Bedri: "He says he’d go even to hell for her. [I think that’s already in the cards for you, Bedri.]" Frankly, I was rather surprised by Bedri's responses to Yagmur. I had assumed that he was just toying with her and perhaps hoping for some sex. But the remark you quoted, coupled with his telling her she had stolen his heart, make me think that the relationship may be sincere. Until now, I had assumed that the marriage between Eko and Elif wouldn't last, and that Eko and Yagmur would wind up together.
I was hoping that we'd finally find out what/who had hurt Serap, but I guess we'll have to wait. And yes, after seeing this scene, I too wonder whether the marriage has been consumated. I suspect that it hasn't been.
I got very nervous when Aslan woke up saying it will be a wonderful day, and Devin noting that they'll get the court decision about Leyla. The juxtaposition of Aslan's delight and Devin's remark made me uneasy. Are the writers simply playing with me? Possibly, but....
So Ergun managed to record Hulya's request that he change the results of Devin's medical exam. He's a scary guy, but Hulya is every bit as scary. I've been assuming that they were the two nastiest characters in this dizi, but now I find myself wondering whether one or even both of them might be redeemed. If this were a telenovela, I'd be inclined to think yes, but with a dizi, I have relatively little experience, and it's very unclear.
I was very uncertain about that last scene. It was VERY fuzzy, and I couldn't really tell what was happening and who was involved. I'm sure that that lack of clarity was deliberate, designed to puzzle and perhaps mislead us. However, your account makes a good deal of sense.
Thanks for another great recap, novelera. I agree with your asides and always appreciate the vocabulary.
Wow, Two Turkish songs!
Olmaz Olmaz Deme/Don’t Say It’s Not Possible - Nil Burak
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTBjMjvXAc4
İşte Öyle Bir Şey/It’s Something Like That - Erol Evgin
YouTube with English translation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJIcaKAp60I
Lol, Hulya said she was in love with Erol Evgin when she was young. Very weird seeing Hulya in party mode.
Aslan told Bedri that the movie is for those over the age of 18. English subtitles said “it’s rated R”. And it looked like a video of Bedri stabbing Seyfi.
Kat, the move to Urla was postponed and I doubt it will happen at all. Devin doesn’t have an office there yet. This is the office in Istanbul. Devin said it was being fumigated and that’s why they were on the top floor. That didn’t make sense to me. I wouldn’t be in that building at all.
Juanita, IIRC in one of Serap’s flashbacks, Ibo threatened her not to say anything or he would hurt her father. So that made it seem Ibo was the culprit. But she hasn’t told anyone yet, so...
I’m wondering about Cihan and Serap’s marriage, too. He’s being very patient with her. That’s nice.
I wondered about Elif and Eko as well. She said he was either drunk or silent and they were like two strangers in bed. But maybe they did the deed last night.
I want no redemption for Hulya or Ergun but it’s already been written and filmed so we will have to live with what they give us. Ergun better watch his back after threatening Hulya.
How strong is Turkish beer? It only took one to get Hulya that drunk? Or get away with faking being that drunk, as Nedret seems to think?
I’m hoping Bedri turns out to be a good guy. He’s still a schmuck and stabbing people really isn’t great, but he did take out Ergun so points to him for that.
I was glad to see Yagmur reject (or seem to) her father’s apology. One “I’m sorry” doesn’t make up for all the hurt and rejection. Especially when it comes after his current wife and child left him alone and he needs someone on his side. He still seems too self-absorbed to earn forgiveness. Even if he takes down Hulya, it will be for his own benefit and have nothing to do with his daughters so no points to Ergun for that. But I too hope he has a backup of that recording somewhere safe.
I like Asuman but does she need to sexually harass Turgut? He’s a good boy and could be wooed if done properly. She should take lessons from Cihan.
K
Gracias, Novelera. I laughed all the way at your remarks on our dear (or not-so-dear?) characters. Even the hit man gets his due, "The slowest assassin in Turkey" - lol.
Poor Seyfi. Hombre, you should've fled right after making the video for Aslan. Aslan's snitches never fare well.
From the start, the actor playing Bedri has reminded me of the American actor Bruno Kirby. Even more so last night in the funny scene with Yagmur and not-dead Ergun.
Definitely a parallel world seeing Hulya gay and sweet. So why won't she help Ergun out of his jam? Seems like the beer and music have worn off. (Cheers to Uni not swiping out the Turkish music!) Cinderella is gone. Evil bruja is back.
KAT S.C.......
THANKS FOR RECAP /
Roberto is faking... yes...no hair lost..
Tania is consoling Alonso...LOLLOLLOL....LOVE IT!
Monica......run for your life...
Mirna..run for your life...!!
Novelera, I enjoyed your excellen recap so much . I read it first and then watched this episode .
It was fun watching usually grim , arrogant Huyla looking like a teen at her first party doing that " raise the roof" move on the dance floor and having a beer . ( I can't even finish a glass of beer , but I would definitely be out on that crowded dance floor raising the roof. )
I never wrote the word " consummation", until I started watching telenovelas,.
Eko seemed to feel truly sad and concerned after Elif shared her feelings, and he kissed her like there was going to be more....like consummation , for example.
So, right after killing his minion , Berri goes to rescue Yagmur and gets all love sick puppy . p.s. Where is Eko's rescued dog? Susan
Thanks for the additions and kind words, all. I'm about to start my Spanish class. Since the pandemic, it's been on Zoom. We all love it because we can wear jammie bottoms and fuzzy slippers and not have to drive anywhere.
dondi, thanks for explaining the 18 mention. I was very frustrated not being able to clearly understand what Aslan said.
Susan, that dog disappeared from the writers' memories as soon as we saw Eko take him away.
K. ITA about Asuman's courting style. I agree that Turgut could be carefully and slowly seduced.
Juanita, we've been brainwashed by the tendencies of dizis to dash our hopes. I also felt it was bad foreshadowing when Aslan said it would be a wonderful day.
Kat in SC: Looking forward to seeing your recap of last night's episode.
Ana goes into greater detail about Fernanda and Francisco. He started out trying to discover what happened to his grandmother but then he fell for her.
Manuel cautions Francisco about going into battle against Eugenio. They risk losing everything. Francisco says do you expect me to take a page from Fernanda's book and just ignore what he has done.
Claudia is dragged to the back room by Miguel who drags her by the hair and she is forced to service him orally. (Get out of that bar girl).
Sebastian tells Monica whatever she decides to do about Fernanda he back her up 100 % .
Ok now Miguel is telling Claudia he needs all the details about security at the del Pinot estate. You are going to help us rob them. ( Can someone shed light on why she is putting up with him. Is she afraid he will kill Erika? That is the only way I figure she is being dragged into this). Yeah, he threatens to break her face again. Don't leave Rafita is up next. It's part of your job.
Fern calls and taunts Alonso and offers her support from afar. He is on to her now.
Marcelo supports Francisco in his justice seeking.
Elisa goes to Roberto at his apartment. She says Ana told me everything you told her.
Ma chipper Claudia is with Fermin, Erika, Marcelo and Francisco at their condo. They toast to something. She thanks Francisco for paying her bills at rehab. She wants to pay them back somehow as she ogles Marcelo.
Mirna tells Fern that she had dinner with Eugenio the night before. He is better, but not with his former energy. Fern says lamentably he isn't dead.
The specialist visits Alonso with his dad there. Sounds like something can be done for him so he can lead a mostly normal life. Including being fertile. So perhaps just his male member was chopped off. TMI?
Elisa asks Roberto to confirm he is really sick and dying. He nods yes.
Gabriel fights with Ana. Fernanda is bad but you are too, no one believes a druggy. Too bad you didn't die. She slaps him. He threatens her, don't you ever lay a finger on me again. I would retaliate, except you are a woman. She says, ooh, you really scared me.
Claudia reaffirms what she heard Fernanda tell Alonso to do to Monica while Francisco suggests she only heard part of the conversation, or she didn't really hear what was said ( I need a name for idiot Francisco I may just change his name to Idiota, or would it be idiot as he is a guy).
Alonso tells his dad yes he wants the surgery but promise me you will find that bitch that did this to me.
Monica talks with Tania about Alonso, and her adopted ( wonderful) and biological parents. She wants nothing to do with Fern. She is on the fence about getting to know Eugenio'.
Adelberto tells Alfredo on the phone next week you will lose your business after the judge rules. They discussed Alonso and his surgery also. I guess maybe Alfredo can't spend the money to fix Alonso since the family money isn't really his.
Elisa tells Tania about Roberto and also that she doesn't think she can get over Francisco being with Fernanda.
Ana and Paty butt heads. Ana wins the engagement imo.
Roberto goes to see Fernanda. She wants him to keep Elisa away from Francisco. He says what's in it for me now? What happened to "us". She wants Francisco's money and body, not his.
Monica talks with Brenda on the phone. She fills her in on her parentage and asks if she has Beltran's phone number. She doesn't but she can get it. She calls daddy who is out to lunch with Beltran discussing business. Adelberto wants to buy his shares. Eugenio plans to keep them as the game is still on against Alfredo.
Gabriel doesn't think dad should spend so much money on fixing Alonso.
Monica meets her father to get some more of the story. Elisa visits Francisco and pretty much squashes any possibility of them getting back together as he is with Fernanda of all people. She leaves and meets Fernanda in the lobby of the condo.
Kat in SC: Thanks for your recap of last night's episode. Now my personal thoughts.
113.) Tania: You're in serious DANGER if Alfredo & Co., find out it was YOU, who cut off Slick Alonso's little bishop.
114.) Ana vs Gabriel: What's Gabriel going to do ? Have Ana killed ? LOL.
115.) Mooching Roberto & Crazy Goldie Locks plotting to keep Francisco the IDIOT & Gullible Elisa apart by any means necessary.
116.) Claudia, Claudia, Claudia: OMG. What in the Hell is wrong with her ? Doesn't she know that she's getting deeper & deeper into a deadlier end potentially ?
117.) Erika & Fermin still in danger, so I can somewhat understand why Claudia is doing what she's doing.
118.) I agree with you on the TMI on Slick Alonso's surgery in fixing little bishop.
119.) Monica wants to meet with Daddy Dearest (Eugenio). I don't think that's a good idea. Sebastian: I thought you were the smartest del Pino in the family ?
120.) Loved watching Ana standing up for herself. If I was Ana (she's the ONLY person I am personally interested in this chaotic Telenovela from here on out), I would move to the Netherlands or maybe the United Kingdom.
121.) Kat in SC: Did you meant to say Marcelo ? Noticed you said Manuel.
122.) Crazy Goldie Locks wants Francisco's money & body, then discard him once everything is done. This girl needs to get the death penalty ASAP.
123.) Eugenio scheming & plotting to take down Alfredo 24/7. I need to see him launch the next phase of his plan.
124.) Enjoyed the conversation between Monica & Tania discussing her adoptive parents, etc.,
125.) Ana vs Dumb Paty: I loved seeing Ana punking that annoying brat.
The High: At last Leyla is freed from prison! (Cemre is among the happy group greeting her outside the prison gate. I think the writers have gone as far as they can to indicate Cemre and Leyla are into each other.)
The Low: Ergun is killed when suddenly his car brakes fail. Hulya's hit man cut the brakes. Aslan and Devin just happen to pass by in their car. They witness Ergun being placed in a body bag.
The Lowest: Hulya "comforts" Devin, saying she knows what it's like to lose a father.
I did enjoy the welcome dinner held for Leyla at the marina. Nice to see Cemre, Turgut, Iskoc, Elif and Eko with the family around the table. Meanwhile, Hulya ate alone at the mansion and kept handling her precious necklace. She also encountered another scorpion -- besides her -- in her bedroom and smashed it.
At the gathering at Nese's after the funeral for Ergun, I noticed folks were wearing a photo of Ergun on their lapel. Maybe this is a Turkish custom? Nese was so chatty and cheery at the gathering, she raised eyebrows. Yagmur was quiet but is clearly put-out with Devin, who of course feels horrible that she'd stopped talking to her father. Devin deserved better. At this moment, I don't care if Yagmur winds up with Bedri.
Aslan is trying too hard to soothe and cheer Devin. Hombre, give her some time.
Turgut and Iskoc share info with Aslan that points to Hulya offing Ergun. In the meantime, the police inform Devin that her dad's car brakes were tampered with. Devin heads to the marina and confronts Aslan, who's just received Ergun's hidden phone from Turgut and Iskoc.
Thanks for the highlights, Niecie.
Yeah, the Cemre – Leyla connection is weird. They really can’t go any further with that.
What happened to Ergun was terrible, but he was a terrible person. I feel sorry for Devin and Yagmur. Nese’s behavior is so inappropriate.
There is another suspect in Ergun’s murder, his business partner, Sermet. IIRC, Sermet was suing Ergun. It was strange when he showed up at the house and told Devin how he thought of Ergun as a brother. Something was fishy. Then they found a text on Ergun’s phone from Sermet threatening to kill him. I’m sure Aslan hopes Sermet is the guilty party.
“I noticed folks were wearing a photo of Ergun on their lapel. Maybe this is a Turkish custom?” Yes. They wear them at the funeral service and at the cemetery. I think it’s a way for the mourners to honor and remember the deceased. It was strange to see the men and women in the same space at Nese’s. They are usually in separate rooms or floors of a house in the dizis I’ve seen. No prayers. And where was the halva?
Thanks again, Niecie.
