Just making it under the wire until the page changes. Thanks so much, Niecie, for the short and sweet recap. It can be brief and well done, as I've said here more than once.

Yep, I have a feeling Serap will not take kindly to her father's warming to Bedri. In the first place, anyone with an ounce of intelligence can see what a loser he is. Also regarding Serap, she's still not a model of mental health in spite of having a husband who adores her. She took a lot of satisfaction in her new husband shooting Hulya's sharpshooter. She's still kind of a twisted sister.

I don't remember Hulya burning that guy, but her crimes are mounted so high that I'm not surprised it slipped out of my memory bank.

Yes, the way the scene was presented, Aslan gave Hulya a chance to fess up and get maybe a partial forgiveness. But she still thought she could tough it out. After all, Aslan (to the fury of many of us here) has forgiven, moved back in, overlooked, etc. etc. SO many times. I'd like to see Aslan make a visit to his disgusting father-in-law.

I was disappointed they didn't show what was mentioned, Serap moving Melek's mother and child...somewhere. Did they say Bulgaria? And Aslan planned to intercept Serap's plans. FREE LEYLA!!!

All their coming together, Hulu’s and Nedret especially, seemed to crumble once Asian woke up. Maybe someone should shoot him again?

What are the chances Hulu’s wasn’t the one to set up the medical lie about Devin’s fertility, and was instead conspiring with Ergun about something else? 10%? She’s seemed surprised about that, but is also a big ole liar so hard to tell. Still not sure Nedret can be trusted. And yes Novelera- WHAT ABOUT LEYLA??

#53 - Part 1 of 2

Shocked by Aslan’s metaphorical cutting of his umbilical cord, Hulya rises from the dining table and collapses. Conveniently she breaks her fall on a cushy sofa before landing on the floor. She’s given an MRI, but only Devin thinks something could be wrong with her. The rest assume a bid for pity.

Devin takes the wheel and drives Aslan to the couples therapist she mentioned last episode. He behaves like a jackass. Is this supposed to demonstrate he’s a real man?

Nedret is frantic because Bedri didn’t come home. He’s still crashed on Ilyas’ sofa. Ilyas picks up Bedri’s phone and tells her to come there.

Finally the check Ibo gave Hulya shows up, the one he got from Ilyas for betraying his nephew. Whether it was signed by Ilyas and endorsed by Ibo or Ibo deposited it and wrote his own, we don’t know. It looks like it cleared the bank because Hulya comes home with a suitcase she tells Ceylin is full of money. While en route with the check Cagri tells her the house in the country will be auctioned tomorrow. She has to make a deposit to show collateral.

Spitting fire Nedret comes to Ilyas’ new place. He tells her Bedri needs to sleep in his father’s house at least once.

Turgut tells Aslan they’ll leave for Edirne tomorrow to rescue Melek’s mother and daughter before Serap gets her into Bulgaria. Mr. Google tells me Edirne is 157 miles from Istanbul and, indeed, near Bulgaria.

Nedret sticks Ilyas’ knife into the DNA test. He gives her one day to tell Bedri, or he’ll do so.

Oh boy! Devin comes to see her rotten father. She gives him her recent fertility test and he realizes she knows. She tells him her hopes for a child began to live the same day her father died to her. She yells what we’re all thinking: How could he be so evil and bad as to do this to his own child? He shushes her. Guess Hulya’s money didn’t thicken the walls in his clinic. He has the gall to say he did it for her own good, getting her away from her mafia husband. Just then some officials from the medical board arrive to say his license is suspended. They show a report showing the things he’s accused of. Devin, on the way out: Hasta nunca, papá

#53 - Part 2 of 2

I’m nervous about Aslan assuring Devin AND Leyla over the phone that he’ll have Turgut rescue Melek’s mother and daughter.

Aslan meets with Seyfi, the guy with the burned face. Someone said Hulya did it. Can anyone refresh my memory? Aslan wants the guy to go ask Bedri what he plans with Ilyas once “this one” is over. He wants a video of Bedri’s response. We don’t see if the guy agrees.

As we predicted, Serap wakes Bedri and looks at him like something to scrape off the bottom of her shoe.

Hulya brings home the money, kind of snarling at Ceylin. [Ceylin, what? You sat at that dinner table and heard what she did to your brother’s wife (and also to your brother) and you’re all perky, Hi Mom?]

Hulya is seething about Nedret being behind the big reveal to Devin about the fake test, so she goes to confront her. She asks her if she’s Devin’s hada madrina (fairy godmother). To once again show how twisted Hulya’s mind is, when Nedret asks how she could do that to her son, the reply is that Devin has harmed Aslan. Nedret gets right in her face and tells her she’ll suffocate him with her love, and then he'll leave.

Bedri has come home in a nasty mood. Nedret tries to talk to him, but Hulya butts in. She tells him that Nedret was thrown out of her home. She was a rather stupid girl who fell in love. And the man she loved wasn’t your father. The guy she loved abandoned her. Her father forced her to marry your father. When he leaves Hulya more or less says tit for tat about getting sons to turn against their mothers. Nedret leans in and says she’ll kill Hulya herself.

Yagmur gives Aslan some keys.

Aslan and Devin fly to Urla (338 miles from Istanbul). They try for the mile high club but are busted by the stewardess. When they arrive at a nicely furnished house, wine already set out, Aslan tells her it’s their new home. [Why do I wonder if this is the house Hulya wanted to buy at auction?]

Ibo got off too easy. Did anyone ever find out what he did to Serap? Ibo told Aslan to take care of Hulya. Yes, Aslan, “take care” of her, once and for all!

Can anyone refresh my memory?” After the Soykans relocated to Seher’s house, Nedret had Bedri’s guys deliver ratty old furniture there. The men taunted Hulya and streamed it so Nedret and Bedri could see. Hulya retaliated by finding flammable liquid and she doused the furniture. She also splashed one of the men—must have been Seyri. When Hulya threw the lighter, she set both the furniture and Seyri on fire. She picked up the streaming phone so Nedret and Bedri could see. They were horrified.

I don’t think the AsDev escape from Hulya will last very long.

To be honest, AsDev has become a bit boring for me. Aslan is irritating. I think it’s partly the way Kıvo plays him. I’m more interested in the other characters and their relationships: Nedret-Bedri-Ilyas; Serap-Cihan; Elif-Eko. The battle between Hulya and Nedret. They keep editing Asuman-Turgut scenes. And it’s terrible that Leyla seems to be an afterthought.

I haven’t had time to check back to the original episodes lately. There must have been some ridiculous edits.

For the record, we are in the middle of Turkish episode 22 out of 30.

I find it interesting that despite all the dark drama and death and violence Devin has been exposed to, this episode had her giggling as she seduced Asian into trying to join the mile high club and then squealing like a teen as he showed her their new house. Susan

Venganza #51 part 1

So we open with Elisa once again telling the family about Francisco. She says she's tired, going to bed and they will talk more in the morning.

Francisco shows up at Fernanda's hotel door in a rage. Typical Fernanda she claims she planned to tell the truth but when she saw the way Eugenio stated at her she feared for her life and changed what she planned to say. (Francisco if you fall for her story again I'll throw in the towel! Who else wants to recap this idiotic galan. Perhaps it will turn to an Ana only recaps in the future!)

Ok, Claudia is at the exotic dancer club ( is that what pole dancer clubs are called, strip club has topless right? I have no first hand knowledge so I'm clueless.). But she is heading insults on Miguel and Rafita. Is this her form of therapy to break Miguel's spell over her? Rafita says, look Miguel didn't really hurt you, not a scar to be seen! She says she isn't sleeping with any clients. Rafita and Miguel say what about us. Miguel caresses her face and Bingo, "no me toques" appears as a line.

Tania calls Mirna, it is done!

Gabriel is playing the snob. Francisco was the gardener. Sebastian points out, was. Now he is our associate whether you like it or not. And he is richer than you.

Back to Francisco chewing Fernanda out. No more lies. She says if you were in my shoes. He cuts her off, right is right and you are wrong. You need to tell the truth, and also the truth about Monica She says we can move far away. Nope, we are going nowhere. He may have told her they are finished, but not sure. I didn't come this far to stay with my arms crossed (yo no llegue hasta aqui para quedarme cruzado de brazos). Is there a better interpretation for the crossed arms. I finally looked it up since it is an oft used phrase).

Ok, Claudia's going to the club now makes sense. She isn't sleeping with anyone, solely working as a waitress. She is doing it to protect Erika and Fermin. They threatened to harm them, but Claudia says if they do anything to her family she will kill them. BTW Ana contracted syphilis she tells them. Looks like maybe they want Erika to work there too, but Miguel says that shi has sailed. The important thing is to gain access to the del Pinot estate, hell win Claudia back.

Dr. Phil (Mirna) tells Tania she is going to regret what she has done. Go see a good psychiatrist. Funny, Fernanda did worse but she hardly counseled her to get professional help.

Sebastian returns home to Monica who is in tears worried sick he tells her Alonso wasn't there. He wants her to bring charges against him and let the law deal with him.

Ninette and Brenda share a nightcap ( tea or something). Mma wants to hear all about her new love interest, Brenda merely says miracles do happen.

So Adelberto wants to buy out the del Pinot shares. Gabriel tells his dad who says never. Gabriel says it will all come back to them eventually ( per the Brenda marriage and killing her parents.)

Fernanda tells Francisco all she wants is for them to be together and form a family. He says never. She then threatens to kill herself and let it be on his conscience. Yay, he walks away from her. I guess I can continue recapping.

Elisa and Ana have an argument because Ana lied to her about Francisco. Ana tells her she lied for his sake because he asked her to. Elisa questions her loyalty. Ana says her loyalty is to him because he rescued her, otherwise she would still be drugged and helpless and forgotten in that clinic. Ana tells Elisa her place is with Roberto. Also, Francisco no longer loves her.
Francisco vents to Marcelo as we see Fernanda lighting a match. Those match lighting scenes have been absent for a while, I guess because she felt happy and loved by Emilio. Francisco says if Fernanda' doesn't tell Monica, he will.




 

Venganza #51 part 2

Sebastian tells Monica about Emilio being Francisco. He will work tomorrow but the 2 of them will have a nice dinner out to celebrate her birthday. She doesn't see how she can celebrate after what happened. He tells her she was the victim.

Panning around the clean but seedy hotel room ( it even has an old boxy 25 inch tv) to a passed out Alonso with blood on the sheets. He wakes up looks under the sheets and sees what happened and starts crying. Looks like he calls his dad who says he's on his way, send me the address.

Breakfast with Gabriel, Roberto, Elisa and Ana. I'm getting a bit tired of Ana pushing the Roberto/Elisa marriage. She says that a Francisco relationship is a no go because Roberto is her husband.Elisa tells Ana to quit putting words in her mouth. Alfredo arrives and needs Gabriel to go with him now.

Sebastian arrives at Francisco and Marcelo's place to get the full story as Elisa was in shock last night and didn't say much.

Roberto needs chemo. He'll go on his own and move back to his apartment. Elisa will hire a nurse for him. Ana jumps in that is unacceptable. Elisa says, gee since you are so worried about him she should go and take care of him.

Monica goes to talk to Tania. She tells her she told Sebastian what happened to her by Alonso. He went to look for Alonso at his home but he wasn't there. Tania says he's lucky. He would have killed him. Monica says he promised not to as long as she turned him in.

Alonso, still lying in bed, tells his dad what happened. His life is over he wants to die. Gabriel can hardly keep the smile off his face.

Tania tells Monica she hasn't spoken with Elisa in a while. They are at odds because she realized she still loves Alonso and has reconciled with him. Monica can't believe it!

Sebastian cancels the invite to Marcelo and Francisco for Monica's birthday party. She isn't in the mood to celebrate.

At chemo Roberto tries to plead his case with Elisa some more. Nobody loves you as much as I do. Francisco left you stranded for ten years without any contact. She tells him they are caput. Their relationship isn't worth it, are you satisfied.

Gabriel and Alfredo discuss what happened to Alonso. The hotel cameras are non existent. What about the bar they were at. Alfredo then talks to Elisa in the hospital corridor and she is shocked and wonders who could have done it. Meanwhile Gabriel is taunting Alonso. His new name is eunuch Alonso. BTW, I'm perfectly fine now. You have nothing to offer Brenda anymore. Alonso weeps.

Mirna in the store, asks Tania what did you do with the goods. Tania says they are in the sea, fish food. Tania has been calling him all day ( keeping up her lover act) but he hasn't answered. Mirna, that poor man. Tania, poor man, no; he got what he deserved.

Marcelo and Francisco are at the the del Pinot's office asking for Alfredo. Paty says Papa had to take care of an emergency. Papa? Oh I mean Alfredo. BTW Paty, you used to be chubby etc. a lot has changed in 10 years. I'm Francisco! Marcelo, we always called her Paty Sonsa ( silly Paty)

Looks like Rafita is going to blackmail Gabriel for more money, or work....

Claudia is back at maid duty with the help of Fermin. Wonder what happened to the new maid.

Alonso gets no sympathy from Sebastian either.

Fernanda tells Monica the story of her birth and disappearance. I'm your mother.

Thanks VERY much, novelera, for stepping up to do this recap, your second of the week. I'm very grateful to you, since I still find this dizi quite confusing. Your recap helped clarify some of the things that confused me, and it was a pleasure to read, with phrases like "Aslan’s metaphorical cutting of his umbilical cord" and Aslan and Devin "try for the mile high club."

Wow, I agree, Aslan really acted like a jackass at the meeting with the couples therapist. Then again, Devin should have known better than to take him by surprise and against his will to the session.

I expected that Hulya would go berserk when she was put into the MRI.
I even felt a bit uncomfortable watching her sliding in.

Yikes, I'm not sure how I missed this, but I have no memory of Ilyas giving Ibo a check for betraying Ibo's nephew. And apparently it was a LARGE check.

And while I'm confessing confusions, I should mention that I'm not sure which house is "the house in the country." Is it the house everyone moved to after Aslan burned down the family's main house? But why would the house they moved to after the fire be auctioned off? Wasn't it somehow co-owned by Hulya and Nedret?

I was delighted that Devin confronted her father, and the scene ended not only with Devin's "Hasta nunca, papa" but also the arrival of the authorities accusing her father of all kinds of dishonesty. I also enjoyed your saying "He shushes her. Guess Hulya’s money didn’t thicken the walls in his clinic."

Yes, Serap already doesn't like Bedri. Wait until she finds out that he's her step-brother. (For that matter, wait until Bedri finds out.)

Yep, Aslan was a complete a$$ at the surprise couples therapy session. But I confess I laughed when the therapist asked "What do you do?" and Aslan replied "I'm a mafia member." Devin, embarrassed, tried to smooth this away, "Oh, he owns a marina." When Aslan tried to give the therapist too much detail, the therapist begs off, "Uh, stop, technically I'd have to report such information to the authorities." Aslan feigns hurt feelings because he's being marginalized in therapy because of his profession. I laughed, but this makes me wonder if Aslan will be happy when/if he achieves cleaning up the business.

I'm puzzled about how Aslan and Devin can move out and so far away without Leyla's kids. Maybe this is a weekend/holiday place?

Juanita, I think the house Hulya is buying is their original one that Aslan set afire.

Yes, Niecie, the bank is auctioning off the land where the Soykan estate was. In Turkish they referred to it as “çiftlik ev” translated to English as “farmhouse” and Aslan burned the house down.

“I'm puzzled about how Aslan and Devin can move out and so far away without Leyla's kids.” Aslan plans on freeing Leyla asap. Maybe they won’t make the move until then. But I don’t expect AsDev to stay in Urfa anyway.

Yes, I live in South Carolina. I have lived in 11 states in the U.S. ( in case you are from a different country.). 7 of the moves were with my husband who was career Air Force for 22 years.

I've decided that Hulya is a humanoid roach. It wasn't explicit that she faked that fainting spell or whatever it was. Rewatching the scene to write something I noticed the soft landing. Maybe they need some RAID.

Yes, Niecie, parts of Aslan's "skit" with the couples therapist were funny. But I also was thinking he risked his wife's career by behaving that way and saying those things in front of another mental health professional. Oh, wait. We've seen her baby dreams and she'll be more than happy to give that up. Please.

Thanks, dondi, for reminding me of the burning furniture scene. I know Hulya is bad, but I couldn't get my head around her aiming a blowtorch at some henchman's face. And, yes, I hated the not outing Ibo for sexual abuse before he left the planet.

Susan, ITA about Bedri's hair. Whatever they do to it, it looks like he'd look the same in hurricane winds.

And, dondi, thanks for mentioning Urfa. IIRC the Spanish subtitles said Urla, and there is such a place. So, instead of a flight of 338 miles, it would be 571, a bit more time for the thwarted mile high club.

I'm not watching live tonight. I chose to watch Ohio State v Texas instead.

Since there is only the Thursday airing for the second Telemundo page I'll add a bit more that I discovered by rewatching most of episode 1. Francisco is an orphan. Manuela's only daughter and son in law were killed in an auto accident. Because Eugenio blamed Manuela for turning her back on his mother he felt it would be better to make her suffer every day by losing her grandson also (to jail or by his running away).

Something that seemed out of sequence was Fernanda appearing to talk to Alfredo about Ana getting professional help. It seemed to occur at the 16th birthday party but since this show is such a fan of flashbacks, it must have happened a few months prior. I'm going to have to make a habit of revisiting the first few episodes going forward. As all the characters are new and half the time I don't even know their names, watching again clears up some questions.

Steve, I'm still not sure how many episodes there are. I think Ana should find a better guy than any presented, although I do like Marcelo. I think Tania is too messed up for those 2 to have an HEA. Personally Francisco and Elisa deserve each other.

I don't know who played 14 year old Fernanda, but that girl had a big nose like young Elisa did....they made no attempt to match the current actors. I guess if you have lots of money then a nose job is a simple upgrade. Young Francisco should have been the one to get plastic surgery to make it more plausible nobody recognizing him.

One other thing I was looking for in the first episode was the age of the brothers del Pinot. They all looked about 16 also so I have no clue. I think Ana is eldest, then Gabriel, then Elisa or Alonso. With Sebastian being the youngest. Not often in modern times women have stair step children. They should have presented Gabriel and Alonso as twins since there is a Cain and Abel type of disassociation going on between them.

Devin questions Aslan, why Urla? Why not Istanbul? To start our own family, we need to get away from everything that’s hurt us, he replies. Understand? She understands but asks, what about the marina? The debts? My office? I just signed a new lease. Aslan says he will find a CEO to run the marina, someone with knowledge and experience. In the meantime, he will go back and forth. And he will find a place in Izmir for her to practice. He adds, the kids will stay with us until Leyla is released. And when Leyla is released, she can stay with us, too.

Devin turns the subject to Hulya. What’s going to happen to her? Aslan answers, she will live with my aunt. What could possibly happen? [Really? lol] Devin sighs, I’m never forgiving your mother or my father. But she’s your mother and she may be sick. Maybe the thought of losing you is making her sick.

Cut to Nedret warning Hulya, pray that my son and I will never grow apart. Hulya snaps back, no one can undo what you’ve done to yourself. Stop blaming others for your mistakes. You may have buried Ibo and burned his belongings, Nedret says, but this isn’t over. What will happen when Aslan learns of the affair between his uncle and mother? Hell will break loose.

Is that a threat, Hulya asks. Nedret fires back, I’m using the same technique as you, Hulya! Let’s see whose son disappears first. Hulya answers, if I lose my son, I have lost everything in this world. Then it won’t be an empty threat. You’ll leave the house with the shroud you brought.

Bedri is hanging with his guys. He notes that Seyfi looks down in the dumps. He isn’t drinking with them. Seyfi says his stomach is hurting. They make fun of him. Seyfi positions his phone to record Bedri. He asks, what’s going on with Ilyas? Were you with him yesterday? Is he going to protect us?
Bedri replies, we don’t need anyone’s protection. Really, Seyfi replies, will he support us for free? We’ll kick Aslan out and Ilyas will take over. Bedri angrily slaps the table, what’s the matter with you? Did you lose your mind when you burned? Ilyas won’t take my place! I’ll deal with Ilyas after I deal with Aslan. I’ll be the only one to take over. Bedri leaves the table.

Edits. Bedri and Yagmur run into each other on their way out of the marina. I don’t recall, but their last interaction must have ended badly because she apologizes to him. He tells her he will only accept it if she has dinner with him. She accepts the invitation.

Next, we see Elif serving dinner. We finally see her without a hijab. She has shoulder length brown hair. Eko complements her on the sarma (stuffed grape leaves), they are just like his mother’s. Eko gets a call from a guard at the marina. He reports, you told me to watch out for any mischief. That’s why I called. It’s Yagmur Hanım. She’s with Bedri Bey and I noticed some suspicious situations. Eko gets up from the table.

Eko asks, is this related to work? No, the guard replies, it doesn't seem like work. They are going out together. Eko snaps, I’m a married man. What am I supposed to do? I don’t care what they do. [But it’s clear this bothers him.] Eko hangs up and gets a bottle of raki and returns to the table. Elif asks if something bad happened. He says no, it’s just something at the marina. End of edits.

Aslan tells Devin he knows his mother well. She sees me as a war trophy. Does she love me? Yes, but it’s a very toxic love. (we see sad Hulya as he speaks). She can’t live without me. I grew up with that. If you pull away, she starts with the manipulation. Then she talks about death. She tries to gain love by scaring you.

Aslan tells a childhood story to give the example. Hulya had a supposed panic attack in front of Aslan and his friends. I clung to her and shouted, mom please don’t die! Let God take me instead! She did that for years. That’s not love… it’s addiction. I had to put an end to it.

Hulya looks at a mother/son pic. My son won’t leave me, she says, my son loves me. He will always love me.

Devin notes that Aslan is full of emotions now. You are angry, hurt, resentful. It makes sense because you love your mother. That’s why we should reconsider the move to Urla. Aslan won’t reconsider. It’s final. Don’t you love the house? She does, and she loves him, too. She’s doomed. He suggests they finish what they started on the plane.

Edits. Bedri and Yagmur have dinner at a kebapci. Not the best way to win a girl’s heart, he starts talking about his mother troubles. She’s willing to listen. Thankfully, he doesn’t go into much detail. He says it’s complicated. Then he asks her to tell a little bit about herself… since they are on a date. A date? Yagmur laughs, I thought this was an apology dinner. He asks her why she broke up with Eko.

Yagmur sighs. Bedri says, I wonder what kind of jerk he was to his girlfriend. She replies, it was your Aunt Hulya. She whispered something to Eko’s family. She didn’t like us from the start. It stopped us from getting married. But maybe it was for the best. He notes how sad she looks. He looks at his shirt. Is there a stain? What is it? Yagmur leans in close to look. He gives her a quick kiss on the forehead. She’s shocked. He laughs. She smiles.

Cut to Eko, very drunk at dinner. Elif calmly says dinner is over and she helps him get up from the table. She takes him to the bedroom. They fall on the bed. He puts his hand on her face. Elif, your eyes… your eyebrows… your lips… you’re so beautiful. She smiles and says, you’re so drunk. I hope you don’t forget what you said tomorrow. I won’t forget, he replies, and I won’t forget the sarma. She confesses she didn’t make the sarma. But she bought them at the corner restaurant with her own hands. Eko settles in to sleep. Elif gets up and doesn’t look very happy. End edits.

Nedret looks at a mother/son pic. She takes Ilyas’ letter out of a drawer. Ilyas voice: you have a day to think it over. Tell Bedri everything.

Hulya thinks back. The country house is being sold and I’m going to buy it. I was Hulya Soykan there and I will be Hulya Soykan again.

Morning in Urla after a very good night. Devin asks, have you told the family about our move to Urla? A few, he replies, but we’re having a goodbye dinner tonight. Devin asks, does your mother know? We’ll find out, he answers.

The auction begins. Starting price is 120 million. IIRC, Cagri had fake bidders at the auction so not to arouse suspicions. Uh oh, someone keeps bidding, all the way up to 180 million. Are there any other bids? Hulya asks Cagri how high they can go. Cagri says it’s already too much. Hulya bids again but the other person offers 205. Any other bids? Going once, twice, sold! Hulya has lost the estate.

Nedret visits Ilyas. Time is up, she says, you’re in control. My hands and tongue are tied. You can tell the truth whenever you want. He asks, why? Is it so difficult to pay for your mistake? She fires back, are you asking me to pay for 30 years of motherhood? It would be very difficult to shout away 30 years! I gave my son so much because I wanted him to be good and have an honorable profession. Neither the Soykans nor the Koruzades were there for us. He only had his mother. Do you know what will happen if you tell him what he thought true was a lie? He will turn away from his mother and be on his own.

He won’t be alone, Ilyas replies, he will have so much more. A father, a grandmother, a sister. Do you think he’ll want to look at you, Nedret responds. Do you think he’ll accept you as his father? I wove every fiber of who he is. If you tell him the truth, you’ll lose him too. Ilyas claims he’s not at fault. He didn’t know Bedri’s existence. What didn’t I do for him, Nedret?

Nedret takes out the letter. What about what you put me through? Do you take responsibility for that? Will you tell your son about the lies written here? Will you tell him how you didn’t support me? How you shut the door in my face? Bedri’s car arrives at Ilyas’ house. Nedret continues, if you can explain that, if you’re brave enough, tell him the truth.

We find out the winner of the auction is really Cihan! He’s there with Serap and they approach Hulya. Cihan introduces his wife. Serap holds out her hand to shake. Of course, Hulya doesn’t take it. Serap snarks, it’s a pleasure to see you here. Who else could I ask about house renovations?

Cihan takes Serap’s hand away. He tells Hulya, we’ve known each other for years. You sent flowers to the wedding, didn’t you? Serap reminds him she sent a hitman to their wedding. Cihan says, I have two roots, Hulya Soykan. Understand? Roots you burned. Remember those crazy dinners? Remember your crazy husband? Remember how you destroyed our childhood? Years of our lives. Okay. Now I’ve taken everything from you. You don’t have a house anymore. It’s over. Let it go. Cihan and Serap leave.

Nedret secretly watches Ilyas and Bedri from a distance. Bedri leaves. Ilyas returns to Nedret. Don’t worry, I didn’t tell him. Do you know why? Nedret answers, you probably took stock of what was true and what wasn’t. Exactly, Ilyas replies, I don’t have a strong argument, you do. I don’t want to lose my son when I just found him. But I don’t want you to lose your son either. Nedret is content and leaves. She also left the letter.

Eko has picked up AsDev from the airport. Hulya calls Aslan. He doesn’t answer. Aslan asks Eko if he’s heard from Isko. A few hours ago, Eko replies, he said Melek’s mom and daughter were close to Edirne. Turgut calls Aslan. Hopefully good news. We can’t tell.

Cut to Leyla and Melek in a cell. Melek wonders why they were brought there. Leyla has no idea. Melek worries something bad happened. Nope, it’s not bad. AsDev shows up and brings Melek’s mom and daughter! Leyla hugs AsDev. As I promised, Aslan tells his sister, everything’s going to change. Aslan tells Melek, her mom and daughter will be safe. All you have to do is tell the truth so Leyla will be released. Is it a deal? Melek agrees.

Aslan tells Isko to take Melek’s family somewhere safe with guards 24/7. Turgut has more good news. Seyfi made a video of Bedri, according to plan. Aslan wants the video, and he views it. He contacts Ilyas. Ilyas gives his condolences for Ibo. Aslan gets to the point. This call is about Bedri. Ilyas says this is none of Aslan’s business. Aslan says he has a message for Ilyas. Watch it and then you can settle the score with Bedri.

Aslan sends the video and Ilyas starts to watch it. Serap, Kiymet, and Cihan walk in on him and see it too. Serap asks, what is that, Dad? Ilyas is stunned.

Nedret helps to prepare dinner and Hulya walks in. Nedret asks if something bad happened. No answer. Nedret tells her that AsDev are hosting a celebratory dinner tonight. What dinner, Hulya asks. Nedret motions for everyone else to leave the kitchen. They are saying goodbye, Nedret answers.

Hulya asks, what goodbye? Nedret replies, they rented a house, they are leaving. They couldn’t find anything close by. The house is far, and they are leaving. She gleefully adds, you said he wouldn’t leave but he’s going far away from you. Hulya turns and walks. She says to herself, my son won’t leave. He can’t leave me.

Kiymet asks, what’s going on, Ilyas? He sat at our table, and you welcomed him into our home. Now look. [I think she’s ready to make the death beans.] I told you so, Serap adds, we won’t back off because you yell and bark orders. Ilyas snaps out of it and bellows, are you going to tell me what to do? We all will, Serap replies, there’s nothing left to say. That guy was clear—“I’ll deal with Ilyas after I deal with Aslan”. Dad, if you don’t kill Bedri, I will.

You are forbidden from killing anyone, Ilyas orders. Serap asks, why is Bedri so special? Cihan looks interested in the answer, too. Because he… Ilyas pauses… because I… because I said so, period! Ilyas walks.

Asuman greets AsDev upon arrival. She says special dishes will be prepared for the night. Nedret enters. Aslan asks her if Hulya knows. I told her, Nedret replies, she was shocked. She whispered something I couldn’t hear. Then she went to her room. Devin thinks they should speak to her.

Hulya is staring at the mother/son pic when Aslan enters her room. Devin waits by the door. Hulya says, so you’re leaving. Is it true? Yes, Aslan replies, we’re leaving. We should have done this a long time ago. You must realize that I’m doing what is best for us. You are my everything, Hulya says, you can’t… you wouldn’t kill me.

Aslan smirks and nods. The last time you said that I was a child and you… do you remember what I was doing? I was holding you and asking you not to say such things. That child’s heart broke. That child no longer exists. Everything I did, I did for you, Hulya explains, I wanted you to see me, but you didn’t. I wanted you to love me, but you didn’t. Aslan replies, you wanted me to love only you.

Hulya says, I took on the world for you. I hope you let us build a world for us, Aslan says, a world completely away from you. If only you hadn’t destroyed your son’s world, just because he fell for a woman you didn’t like. If only you’d let your son into your world, instead of taking on the world. If only your son could let you into his world. We can’t do that, not in this world. But… come to our dinner tonight. Let’s enjoy one last peaceful dinner. Aslan kisses her forehead and leaves. Hulya is devastated.

Almost dinnertime. Devin thinks Hulya isn’t well, and she probably won’t come to dinner. She’s worried. Aslan tells her not to worry. He’s comfortable with their decision and she should be too.

Hulya agonizes in her room. She repeats, my son won’t leave me. That won’t happen. My son won’t leave me. She picks up a bottle of pills.

Nese and Yagmur arrive for dinner.

Hulya hears Seher’s doctor in the hallway. She intercepts him and asks him if her medication is dangerous. She lies and says she wants to know because Seher almost took some. She could have swallowed the whole bottle. The doc advises the meds should be kept out of reach of the children and Seher. Hulya asks, what if someone takes the whole bottle? The doc explains that in suicide cases based on his experience, half of the victims die. Hulya retreats to her room. Inner voice: if half die, the other half will survive. [We know where this is headed.]

Aslan has some words before they start dinner. Ceylan asks, a goodbye speech? No, Aslan replies, we’re not saying goodbye. We are off to a fresh start. Meanwhile, Hulya starts taking pills. Aslan continues, I don’t like endings, but if it leads to the start of a good beginning, then it can be beautiful. Devin and I have decided… to start over. We are on a journey and that means letting go. Letting go of everything that makes us sad, that wears us down. But the people who make us happy, whether at this table or not, will also come with us on our journey.

Aslan proposes a toast. To everyone who has been reborn and (he looks at Devin) to everyone who’ll be able to be reborn someday. Aslan’s inner voice: the empty chair at our table spoke volumes. Since I was a baby, the table had been set and it had been taken down. The last person to leave the table was always Huyla Soykan. My mother.

We see Hulya finishing up the pills. Aslan’s inner voice continues. I never thought I’d see her go this far. That she’d gamble her life rather than stay at the table without me. But she did it. Because she is Hulya Soykan. Hulya rises from her chair and falters. She knocks over a mirror and it crashes to the floor. People at dinner hear it and head for Hulya’s room.

Hulya is on the floor, unconscious, her necklace beside her. Panic ensues. Call an ambulance! She took all the pills! Mother! Aslan holds Hulya’s hand and cries, Mom, wake up!

And we are out.

Dondi, thanks VERY much for another superlative recap. I really appreciate your not only making clear what we've seen but also letting us know about so many passages that Telemundo has omitted. But I understand--after all, what's more important, the dizi or watching the same dumb commercials run for the second, third, or fourth time? Sigh.

I'm beginning to recognize how very similar the stories of Hulya and Nedret have been. And in this episode, the plot thickens even more. Nedret asks Hulya, "What will happen when Aslan learns of the affair between his uncle and mother? Hell will break loose." So am I right in thinking that just as Nedret became pregnant by Ilyas, Hulya did so by Ibo? And did neither biological father know until many years later?

I'm again surprised that Telemundo has cut out scenes that seem as if they're important, such as the relationship between Bedri and Yagmur. Is it just a momentary thing? For Yagmur's sake, I hope so. I really don't like Bedri.

So Hulya gets outbid at the auction by someone representing Cihan. Where did Cihan get so much money? Oops, I forgot, he's married to Ilyas's daughter. I guess the money came from Ilyas.

Speaking of Ilyas, I'm finding I have more sympathy for him than I did earlier. This was especially true when he explains to Nedret why he didn't tell Bedri that he's Bedri's father. He says Nedret has a stronger claim than he does. And "I don’t want to lose my son when I just found him. But I don’t want you to lose your son either."

I was surprised that Seyfi simply positioned his cellphone clearly in Bedri's direction and started recording. I expected that Bedri would notice this and put an end to the recording and, quite probably, to Seyfi as well. Once again, my expectations didn't come to pass.

I'm glad that Melek's mother and child have been found and brought to the jail to see Melek. But I'm still very apprehensive about their safety. Some people are clearly determined to convince Melek not to testify on Leyla's behalf. Yes, Aslan tells Isko to take Melek's family to a safe location with around-the-clock guards, but time and time again, "safe" locations turn out not to be. I hope that this time my expectations do not come to pass.

I see they've announced that we're in "últimas semanas."

Just a fantastic recap, dondi. Have you considered a side gig as a screenwriter? You made so many things clear to me.

I'm wondering if there are some clear cultural differences. For me it's hard to ignore that Aslan blithely arranges Devin's life for her in a new place. She didn't even know about the rented house until she arrived. Well, she's gone off the guy who conspired with Hulya, but what about her married couple friends in Istanbul?

Yes, my ears perked up at the mention of "the affair" Nedret spoke of to Hulya. I thought she just chose Yusuf over Ibo as a better bet for being a power wife. "Affair" seems to indicate something after her marriage rather than a girlish fling before it.

Bedri pursuing Yagmur...gah!! I can't figure out where they're going with Eko continuing to carry a torch for her.

Portrayals of toxic motherhood drive me crazy. I even called my son today and mentioned the fictional manipulations we've seen. He reminded me that I put a lot of effort into getting him into a school in another state, one better aligned with the career he chose.

That was a big surprise, at least to me, that Cihan (probably with Ilyas' money) bought the house he was mostly excluded from visiting when the dizi began. That really was a stake in her heart.

I've been meaning to mention this and seem to always forget. Over and over they've said that the "bad thing" happened 40 years ago. I've had the impression that Nedret was the daughter of the house and Hulya...what?...a servant? And we're to believe that Nedret was tossed out because of being pregnant and unmarried. So why do they talk about Bedri being 30?

Nedret's relationship with Ilyas is also confusing. Yes, he's the father of her 30 year old. He's hinted he left to protect her from the family scorning her for a lower-class guy or a criminal or whatever. But then she says he shut the door in her face.

I wish Nedret hadn't told Hulya ahead of time. I thought that when I watched it. It gave her time to plot.

I also thought of death beans when Kiymet was outraged at what Bedri was like.

So, we hear Hulya's thoughts about 50% chance of surviving. Considering that she thinks of herself as invincible, I suppose she's sure she'll survive. She's probably right.

dondi, I noticed you were going to watch the Ohio State-Texas game. Curious as to which team was your favorite. I was born and raised in Akron. My high school team was a really good one. This year the 49ers were a big disappointment, sort of souring me on football in general, not to mention thinking I shouldn't watch at all because of the CTE perhaps being suffered by some of the athletes even as I watch.

In any case, once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye. Hope you're enjoying the result rather than suffering the loss.

A brief summary of the first episodes.

Yıldız's life takes a dramatic turn when she meets Ender Argun, a high-society woman married to a successful businessman, Halit Argun. Ender hires Yıldız as her husband's personal waitress and later offers her money to seduce Halit so that Ender can secure finances after their divorce. Yıldız's sister, Zeynep, a hardworking and principled woman, starts working at Halit's partner Alihan's company. Alihan is a wealthy and arrogant businessman.

Yıldız comes up with a plan and accepts the offer. She targets Ender and tries to learn the details of Ender's private life. An unfortunate accident brings Zeynep and Alihan closer together.

Gracias, Dondi. What a pleasure to read your super recap on a sunny afternoon. I appreciate all the details and "extra" edited scenes.

I hate to say it, but Bedri is a nice guy -- when it comes to Yagmur. "Is there a stain on my shirt?" was a cute trick to sneak a smooch. But he's ruthless with Aslan and Ilyas. Which side of him will win out?

I hope Bedri doesn't find out Seyfi recorded him. Seyfi is just a doofus hanging with the wrong crowd.

I don't see Hulya as ever being in love with Ibo, as he was with her. She needed a co-conspirator and an ally to do her favors.

Funny -- not -- how Hulya has Ceylan and could have Leyla too but feels "so alone" without Aslan. Aslan, maybe you should try therapy after all. There's only so much toxic mom that a body can take.

Now that Serap is so happy with Cihan and Ibo is dead, why is she still trying to destroy Leyla by messing with Melek's daughter and mom?

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words and great comments. Yes, we are in últimas semanas. Monday starts Turkish ep 23 out of 30.

I don’t know why they are cutting Yagmur and Bedri scenes if they are destined for each other. Their banter is sort of cute, and yes, Niecie, Bedri doesn’t seem like such a jerk when he’s with her. It would be nice if they showed us more of Elif and Eko as a married couple. Eko is still haunted by the ghost of Yagmur.

Juanita, I was waiting for Seyfi to get caught with the phone, too.

ITA, novelera, the long-ago events are confusing, and timelines seem fuzzy. “Over and over they've said that the "bad thing" happened 40 years ago. “ “So why do they talk about Bedri being 30?” The only thing I can think of is that 40 years ago refers to what happened with Cihan’s family. Then Nedret’s exile happened several years later. I remain surprised that her father didn’t kill her. No idea when/how she hooked up with Ilyas. They also mentioned another guy, Faisal. Was that Bedri’s “father”? Hopefully we will get a thorough explanation by the end.

I hate Hulya as much as I hated Azize in Hercai. A fitting ending for her would be to sacrifice her life for Aslan. No HEA for her! I don’t understand why Devin cares at all what happens to her evil MIL. She might think it’s for Aslan’s wellbeing. Some relationships, even parent-child, are better if they end. Look at her and Ergun.

Oh, novelera, I’m not a fan of either Ohio State or Texas, or football in general. I watched the game out of curiosity. I might have mentioned this before, my daughter went to Michigan on a soccer scholarship. So that should explain my loyalties. Thanks for stopping by with that info, Lucio. I had no idea. I’ve heard of this dizi but never watched it. IIRC, it’s a long one--over 170 Turkish episodes. I don’t know many of the actors in this. I’m already at capacity with what I’m watching now, but I might check out a few episodes. It would be nice to watch a dizi with you again.
