PAPAS #24 Part 1

Previously: An emotionally distraught Lichita tells Chano she wants a divorce.

Tino reiterates to Aidé that the only thing that matters is that Uli is all right.

After she and Tino kiss, Aidé looks down and picks up an unfamiliar blanket. She inhales the fragrance but doesn’t recognize it. Tino walks over and immediately recognizes the scent telling Aidé it was Paulina’s…Tino turns to leave (perhaps to confront the likely guilty parties) but Aidé stops him, seeming to tell him with Emi’s accident and everything going on…

Chano, in tears asks Lichita why?? We are a family he laments. She answers, mentioning Checo of course. Heartbroken Chano gets up as tears cascade down Lichita’s cheeks.

Pura, looking very much the worse for wear is in a hospital bed asking Rudolph about Pipe. (She has short feathered gray hair and actually looks quite lovely).

Tino talks about Paulina and he laments all the plans and dreams they had. He is grateful to the children for everything they have given him. Tino tells Aidé how important she is to him as she touches his face. After a glowing smile, Aidé pulls him in for a loving, lingering kiss. For just a moment as he hugs her he winces a bit in pain behind her back. After he leaves she sniffs the blanket again.

Bertha pounces on and scares the stars out of Tino. She shares that Augusto told her something about Lila and Circe taking a trip (I gather it was when they went to find Paulina’s ashes?)

In his room (airplanes on the wall, spaceships on the bed, a dream haven for a child), Pipe and Clara Luz spend a few quality minutes.

Guzmán is talking to a comatose Pura telling her he loathes her. Staring hatefully, he takes the IV tubing and puts a knot in it. The monitor starts buzzing but mercifully, a nurse comes in and he stops. Take care of my tia he tells the nurse. Murderous SOB I mutter…

Uli is the subject of good-natured teasing by the family as Fed sashays in wearing a short sleeve moss green leather dress that fits like a second skin. She whispers in Emi’s ear and unfortunately she is accompanying him and Tino to his doctor’s appointment (as she pinches his cheek as though he is a toddler).

PAPAS #24 Part 2

Lichita takes Chofis’ hand and says she and Chano are separating as Chofis stares wide eyed.

Tino and Fed are with Emi as they see his doctor. Cruel Fer twists his finger so he screams. Unfortunately Tino and the doctor leave Emi alone with Fer. Fed is dancing around and singing in that nauseating sing song voice verbally taunting Emi.

Lila and Circe are in their suits and sarongs getting manis as a pool party at the casa gets underway. Having fun, Scarlet pushes the girls in the pool and then Aidé pushes Scarlet in. Aidé comments on Lila’s pensiveness and Lila takes the opportunity to bring up her mother again.

Lichita and Chano argue as Chofis gets upset. Lichita leaves the table as Chano comforts her and a sad-looking Chuchito.

Uli and Gina are going to work on a presentation having something to do with sexuality. They barely have anything accomplished when Gina starts kissing Uli. After a few fleeting, tentative kisses (unenthusiastic on his part), Gina takes off her bra (without removing her shirt a la Flashdance) as he is wide eyed impactada.

The doctor appointment over, Tino, Uli and Fed stroll in the park and run into a mime who pretends to pull Emi toward him (out of place but yeah, OK) …She says something about Aidé and Facundo to Tino.

Uli has his shirt off and Gina is urging him on. Then, we see him flashing back to a dark and unintelligible place. He freaks out, gets up and leaves as Gina calls out after him.

Aidé sees beautiful purple flowers in her room. As she smiles, Lila appears and tells Aidé they are her mother’s favorite flowers. Lila says something about her mother returning and makes it clear she doesn’t want Tino to be with her.

Pura admits to Rudolf that she doesn’t want to spend her last days in the hospital and she wants to sign something akin to a health care proxy. He will talk with Guzmán.

Aidé sees Uli and he brushes her off but she follows him into his room. He is clearly upset. She tries to talk to him about why he is panicking as tears flow from his eyes. She envelops him in a hug and supports him. He interrupts and waylays any further questions but tells him she loves him.

PAPAS #24 Part 3 of 3

Gina spills bad tea telling her friend Lorena what happened between her and Uli.

At school, the teacher gathers the students together as Lorena takes pictures.

Clara Luz and Rudolf’s meeting with Guzmán doesn’t go well. He doesn’t want them telling him what to do about HIS tia. Rudolf tries to get him to calm down.

Gina tries to talk to Uli asking what happened. He tells her it’s complicated. Meanwhile, several groups of students all look at him and start to laugh. Repeating Gina’s confidences, Lorena has posted their misadventure online as the students start chanting. Uli runs away and in his mind’s eye recalls a party where people are dancing with masks on. He runs down the corridor closing his eyes. We can see his face as one or more people with white gloves are touching him…He blanches and in full panic, runs outside. School officials who have already been alerted, search for him as Circe and Gina are also in the chase. Panicking Uli runs into a bodyguard and takes his gun!! He has another flashback as Circe frantically calls out to him.

Chano delivers mail to Lichita; he is unsmiling…

Aidé and Guzmán meet as Facundo bursts in. They listen dazed and unamused, both leaning their cheeks in their hands…Just then Aidé gets a text from Tino.

Uli puts the gun to his head when all of a sudden, Tino materializes out of nowhere and gently tells him to take the gun away from his head. Tino puts his hand on his son’s as a crying Emi falls into his arms. Tino hugs him as his son cries on his shoulder as though his heart would break.

On a park bench, Uli admits to Tino that he was sexually abused. When Tino questions him, Uli says he doesn’t know by whom. Later, at the hospital, after Tino tells her what happened, Aidé’s heart is broken as she cries in utter torment.

Tino and Aidé mourn the pain and suffering of their beloved son. Together.

A terrible and tragic revelation. Horrific…

Las hijas #28 part 1

Doing this first section from memory so things may be out of order and condensed.

Ofelia tells Mar she has ruined their lives by getting pregnant. Who is the father? (Well that is just insulting to Mar.) Of course it is the love of her life, Juan. Ofelia says you will never get out of poverty now, no job, money, roof over your head ( all true) and what a fine upstanding father, a jailbird. Mar points out Juan is in jail because of Ofelia. (Has Mar ever made sure the kidnapping charges were dropped against him? If not it is also her fault he is in jail.)

Val and Nick meet on the outside steps of the mansion. He tells her they need to get to work pronto. She tells him that Priscilla attacked her, burned her house down etc, but she wants to go home and see if there is anything salvageable. A change of clothes, in particular, as she is in the same thing she wore yesterday. He offers to drive her, but to work. She can get new clothes from the fashion house.

Cami meets with Juan at the jail. He is so happy her lawyer will be able to get him out. He needs to see Mar and talk to her ( you blew that chance in the previous episode, dummy). Cami tells him she has a new guy and to forget about her. She threatens to pull her help from the case unless he promises never to see Mar again. ( So much for her turning a new leaf. Of note, she is dressed very appropriately in a pretty blue blazer. No bare midriff to be seen. No catcalls from the inmates either).
Ofelia returns to her room to apologize to Mar, but the bird has flown. She goes to the kitchen to ask the maids if they've seen her. Nope. She turns to leave the kitchen and literally collides with Graciela who chews her out for not looking where she is going and tells her to get to work. I think the mess in Arturo's room is mentioned by one of them which brings us to the crazy girl again.

Priscilla clad in a black lace bra and panties is waiting for Arturo in his bed. I guess he left the room to get ready for work and she snuck in. In typical Priscilla fashion she throws herself at him as he fends her off and tells her to get a grip. She does, on something glass and lunges at him, but refrains from bashing him with the glass object and instead hits the wall severely cutting her hand in the process. Arturo grabs a blanket to cover her, picks her up so she doesn't cut her feet on the glass and takes her to the hospital. Francisco (Dad) arrived and when Arturo tried to explain what his crazy daughter did, crazy dad attacks Arturo. I guess it's in their genes. Cami has miraculously teleported to the hospital from the jail and witnesses it.

Mar is wandering around the old neighborhood talking to her baby and bemoaning Juan not being with her, he would be the best father in the world, although admittedly it is not the best timing for them to have a child.

Nick is putting Val to work and she is on board with the program. He offers her and her mother and Mar some clothes to help them out. She accepts on the condition he takes the cost of them out of her salary. They shake on it. Nick gets a call from Arturo explaining why he is late. Val hears his half of the conversation.

 

Las hijas #28 part 2

Ofelia continues to search for Mar. Paula opens her door and the 2 talk. Paula says she is sorry their house burned. She snidely adds hopefully you won't stay in this house long. Then Ofelia kinda threatens her with something she may know about her past without specifics being mentioned.

Cami is blaming Arturo for ruining the life of her best friend. The Dr comes out and tells them he has stitched her cut hand, but she has had a psychotic breakdown and is manic depressive. She needs specialist care. Francisco goes to her. Cami says, it's all your fault Arturo. You drove her to this condition.

Val is wearing a nice black and gold yoga pants and tops. Nick is impressed, it fits her perfectly. She is upset about Arturo being with Priscilla. Nick explains she has been a family friend for years. He tells her there is no need for her to be jealous. She vehemently denies any jealousy, she is just concerned as he is part of the campaign. Let's get to work ..

Leo sees Luis secretary carrying the prescription bottles and demands to know what they are for! ( Hippa policy, maybe they are for her, what a busybody). She tells them they are for his dad from the Dr but no other info and heads to Luis office.

Paula is doing her nails when a text/ voice message comes through. A male voice asks when will we see each other, precious. Another message that I didn't mange to figure out, but it looks like he is going to send Leo some compromising videos if she doesn't meet him, and sends her a sample.
Mar continues to wander the streets, Amparo sees her and call to her.

Juan is comforted by an inmate on the supposed betrayal of Mar.

Mar enters a gyno clinic. Amparo is hot on her heels. Mar wants an abortion. The receptionist giver her forms to fill out.

Amparo calls Ofelia. Mar is at the abortion clinic. Ofelia says oh my God no

Paula sends a voicemail to Saul to demand he stop with the photos. He says there are lots more. They continue with voice texts back and forth. He tells her he will first send them to Leo, then the press.

The Dr asks Mar various questions. She?( she is 20). Have you told the father? No, he's in jail. Where do You live? with my mother. do you work or go to school? no. Are you sure you want to terminate? Yes, as tears fall down her face.

Val is having makeup applied. One of the guys wants to give her a new look, I e. Cut some of her hair. That is a no go with Val. Her hair is important to her ( like Samson, does it give her strength?. Arturo shows up and loves her look also. She tells him that is for the job. She mentions him being with his ex, I think she said he lied to her. She is getting something to eat. Nick and Arturo share a rueful glance with each other.
 

Las hijas #28 part 3

Ofelia is in a taxi rushing to the clinic. She leaves Mar a voicemail telling her don't do it.

Arturo fills Nick on what happened to Priscilla. He looks at Val and says she looks good. Nick agrees. But she is no professional model. Arturo says leave it to me. Nick earns him not to mess things up, they are under a deadline. (I think maybe he said let me handle her). Next scene may clarify it better for my interpretation).

Cami visits Priss. Pris just wants to die. She can't escape this depression. Cami says you need help and you will get better. Priscilla doesn't believe her and wants to be left alone.

Looks like O got there too late. Mar is outside the clinic. I got rid of the problem mom .

The designers tell Nick Val is perfect. Arturo tries to talk to her but she says I'm working, leave me to it.

Mar continues to tell her mother why she got rid of the baby. Ofelia cries.

Finally a Luis sighting. Cami comes to his room to tell her about Priscilla, and that it is all Arturo's fault. Luis tries to reason with her but she doesn't want to hear it. Luis calls Francisco and offers his help.

Paula keeps getting messages. Leo walks in and tells her about the medicine the secretary got for Dad. She knows nothing about him being sick. She tells him to ask his dad. She is flustered and not herself so he questions her. She tries to defend her actions, then rushes off

Val comes home with a bag of clothes for all. Mar thanks her but she isn't feeling well. Val thinks she should see a Dr. Ofelia covers for Mar, says she went and has a virus. Mar agrees, a virus that she is over. She wants to sleep. Val looks at Mom? Is she ok? Ofelia says she will be

Graciela is telling Nick about Luis. Of course Paula is eavesdropping.

Ofelia tells Val it's best not to tell Mar about the modeling job. Val wonders is everything ok with her?

Great work, Kat.

Everyone in this story is true to form. I knew Ofelia would flip her lid over stupid Mar getting pregnant. At her age she should know better. She grew up poor, would have seen more than a few girls her age and younger in this situation, and she had to know how Mommy Direst would react.

I agree that she was derelict in her duty as a human being about getting Juan out of jail before the fight. She is not underage, was not kidnapped, and Ofelia had no right to say she was. However, Juan's situation is a major plot drive, so...

Ofelia's about-face when she was in the cab has to be about how she treated Mar. She was totally right about the fate of poor girls getting pregnant but her temper won't help the situation. I also wonder whether she ever talked to her daughters about The Facts Of Life.*

Prissy needs a padded room and a giggle jacket. Her condition isn't Arturo's fault and someone needs to explain this to Camila. On a general note I don't know if it's even a good idea for your brother to marry your best friend even if both are mentally healthy. Still also not sure how Francisco will handle this but I hope that he doesn't try to force a marriage.

Paula looks like she is considering murder as a way for Leo to become the next patriarch. She's so self-centered she doesn't seem to see that he isn't smart enough. Graciela needs to keep an eye on her.

*Out of curiosity I recently googled the question about The Talk and got the following result: 20% of 20-30-somethings today never had that talk with their parents.

After the finale of Angel I'll be here more frequently.

Cami is chilling and no better than Pris in her own twisted way.

Her feelings just don't jive with her having the abortion...Also, have their been any instances where the (one of) lead protags have had an abortion? I am really going out on a limb here, but I don't think she did despite what she told her controlling, manipulative mother...(Pure speculation. I'm usually wrong but my gut instinct is kicking in here)...

Thanks Kat, that was a great recap. Yes, Camila has not sude my be one nice. I thought it was crazy that she blamed Arturo because Priscila is a psyco.
Mar did tell them she wasn’t kidnapped. Juan is still in jail because of the fight the guards think he started.

Diane, i agree with you. I don’t think Mar ended the pregnancy. It didn’t seem like that much time had elapsed, and then she’s standing outside the clinic. I would think you’re have to stay for a while after so they could monitor you.

I can’t agree the Ofelia was right about Mar. Yes, being poor and pregnant makes things very difficult but I can’t agree with any proclamation that says someone ruined their life at 20! Ofelia made a proclamation that Mar’s life WOULD be nothing but poverty, misery and hardship. And while that’s certainly possible, and maybe even probable for a young unmarried pregnant woman in poverty, it’s not the only possibility. Then she throws in a bunch of BS about the baby’s dad being a jailbird, continuing to ignore the fact that he’s only in jail because she put him there. Mar could end up in poverty. She could get a job, figuring out childcare with sis/mom and work up at some company and end up making good enough money to live a decent life. She could meet a rich man who wouldn’t mind having a step child, she could marry whichever brother Val doesn’t pick, she could give birth to a music prodigy/math genius/tech wizard/futbol star who buys mommy a mansion for his 18th birthday. Any number of things could happen, I really dislike the ‘Life is over/ruined outlook’ especially at such a young age!

Ugh! So many toxic females in this and Graciela gets worse every day! She actually baits Ofelia (I don’t care if Of does deserve it, because Graciela doesn’t know that) about solving her issues and not causing more problems for THEIR family knowing that Arturo’s crazy girlfriend burned (supposedly) their house down and attacked Val. Who does that? Who would go up to something and say: Yeah, my nephews unhinged gf attacked your daughter unprovoked and burned your house down but I hope you can figure that out without taking advantage of my family’s kindness cuz we don’t need your problems? She actually told her to figure it out without involving Art!!! It’s almost funny.

I’m with you Diana, I don’t think Mar had the abortion – mostly because that plot baby is needed! I think she lied to mommy so she’d leave her alone. Can you even walk into a clinic and get a same day abortion? I have never been pregnant and I know nothing about it, but I thought it was a process that took multiple appointments but maybe it’s changed or it’s different in Mexico.

It’s fun to see Val and Nic getting along and being friendly. They aren’t even flirting, just working together. It’s a refreshing change from all the toxic energy in almost every other interaction in this show at the moment.

Cami is just plain ridiculous, she thinks Prisy’s crazy is Art’s fault and daddy needs to do something about it!!! Let’s just pretend for a second that Cami was right and it was Art’s fault……what exactly could Luis DO about it? Give Art a good talking to and Pris would magically heal the imbalance???

I don’t want Luis to be fatally sick… This is not the show I want to be watching!!! There are so few honestly decent characters in this so far, I don’t want to lose one!!!

Unbelievable that after her brutal reaction to Mar’s pregnancy, Ofelia would besurprised by the “abortion” news. I agree with Liz and Diana that she didn’t go through with the abortion. It seems like nobody ever does in telenovelalandia.

Uh, why does Priscilla still have access to Arturo’s bedroom? He should have gotten a lock long before this knowing what a psycho she is. I can see Val being upset with his blah blah blah blah about Priscilla being a friend of the family and him having to help her. For how long will thePriscilla nonsense go on? Nico was right that Val was jealous.

Poor Uli first he has the car accident because looney Facundo cut the brakes, and now he is the victim of bullying.Poor guy is tortured by something that happened in the past. I tried to make out those images he was seeing, but they went by too quickly. There were lots of people in animal masks. Did Aide host a big masquerade party?

I cannot understand the way Africa( Fede) is portraying this character . She uses that baby voice when she taunts Emi. Is this the director's idea? I cannot stand her threatening Emi with that goofy manner she is using . Nobody seems to notice .

Guzman is creepy . Was he Silvana's cousin ? Why does he hate Pura? Did she favor Silvana?

Tino always seemed to be in the right place to rescue somebody, but when be is right next to Fede and Emi, he is oblivious to what is going on. Susan

Diana. Good job. I want to just add one little tidbit I caught a d will add more later. The end of the episode Tino tells Aide that Uli has been sexually assaulted at some point, I think that is where the guys in masks come from. Also Guzman let out that he was illegitimate and for some reason that is why he hates his aunt. But I may have to go back and watch that scene to get a better feel for it. My Colombian daughter in law is coming over soon to drop off a grandson for a cousin sleepover. Maybe I will have her help me make sense of it.

I hardly know where to begin ....well, I agree that Mar did not go through with the abortion. She has just learned how to deal with her mother . Do what you want to do ,but don't let her know . I agree that there are so many options for Mar , but Ofelia just flew off the handle as she usually does . So, Val doesn't know that Val was \is pregnant !

Best part was Paula all upset over the creepy Saul call. Better call Saul, Paula. I have noticed that Leo has started giving Paula suspicious looks.

Uh oh, is eavesdropper Paula going to mess with poor Luis's meds? She seems to want to stir the pot and get Leo to the top of the family empire....where he won't know what he's doing!

There are a lot of toxic , dysfunctional folks in this one. I like a clear hero, someone to look up to. I guess heroes are out of fashion. I suppose Nick is the closest we have to a normal , intelligent person. Luis seems to be too ill and grief stricken to be proactive. Leo is Paula's puppet . Art doesn't seem to take things as seriously as be should . He seems to act like a teen in these situations with both Val and Pris.We got the agressive ,manic Pris , so get ready for the depressive Pris. Cami is a spoiled , powerless teen trying to be a good friend to maybe her only friend Pris and blame her brother. People love to push the blame onto someone ...hey, this is your problem; you fix it . Also, Cami thinks she can get her crush by springing him from jail .Does she have any friends besides BSC Pris?
. I actually feel very sorry for Art. He is definitely paying for all those fun , carefree years as a rich playboy.

I loved Val showing up with that big plastic Santa bag full of clothes . I hope the servant quarters has toiletries . Susan

I failed to comment on something that really struck me. Once again Nick is the only one being informed a parent is gravely ill. This time it is Graciela's doing, and Luis did only recently learn about his ticking time bomb heart, but he really needs to let the other children know, if only to hopefully reduce his stress levels.

I also agree Mar didn't have the abortion. I had a d and c after a spontaneous abortion decades ago (and they sedated you and gave me instructions you can't remember immediately afterwards because you are still drugged up.)

Susan, those scenes with Uli and the masks...Those were from an incident in the past and that is where I believe Uli was being sexually assaulted (Kat's comment seems to confirm that). When he confessed what happened to Tino in one of the last scenes, he asked Uli if he knew who did it and Uli said no.

"Tino always seemed to be in the right place to rescue somebody, but when be is right next to Fede and Emi, he is oblivious to what is going on" is a great observation and so sadly true. He blindly trusts Fed which he will live to regret once everything comes out.

I am confused on Guzman too. Kat revealed he said he was illegitimate which I hadn't understood. We should find out more soon hopefully.

Thank you for your comment on Tino telling Aide about Uli's abuse. I'm glad I recorded that correctly in the recap (I'm never 100% sure of what I think I'm hearing). The scene of Tino and Aide consoling each other in the last scene was heart wrenching.

I also wonder whether Mar actually had the abortion. She isn't an easy liar and not too bright in general. However, it hasn't been long since she and Juan did the deed so the abortion could have been done with pills.

Since abortion is now legal in all Mexican states and has been since September 2023 it's overdue to be a novela plot point.

A big belated thank you for your recap, Kat! I've been working a lot lately, a few big projects happening at the same time. Tiring but very exciting.

Kind of like seeing Nick and Val start their working relationship. I think they have a nice chemistry and Nick has this look on his face, like"huh, I'm discovering this brand new person". I'm still team Nick, by the way.

I think I agree about no abortion taking place. What would be the point of having Mar pregnant for 3 episodes ? This is definitely not a "pro-choice" kind of show.
I also agree that having a baby shouldn’t be such a dire life sentence nowadays.
Mar has options, what she doesn’t have is a supportive mother who could actually put aside her own dreams of grandeur to help her daughter.
Of course she'd have such a reaction when Mar gave her the news, this is a woman who threw a man in jail because he loves her daughter.

I love to see Paula suffer even if it's just for a little bit. I can totally see her try to poison Luis or change his heart medicine. The doc did tell him the other day he'd have to take his pills at very precise hours.

Camila is so unlikable, she is exactly the kind of daughter-in-law Susana deserves. The two could have epic fights.
I still don't know who Mar could end up with - maybe even alone and independent, raising her child and going to school ?
