By common agreement, this group DOES NOT DISCUSS previews, trailers, or any other plot information not found in a current or past episode of the current production. Spoilers WILL be removed by the admin. This includes references to earlier productions of the story, and even the original novel. Thanks for your cooperation!
Great comments, Niecie and Susan. Susan, I also cannot stop watching. While not my usual cup of tea (narconovelas unless Kate del Castillo is in the cast), I keep getting some surprises.
Our own dondi mused whether Marco, Torres' partner, would turn out to be corrupt. And she was proven right last night. Guess he's not all bad because he shot in the air instead of into Eduardo's chest.
I surely hope the writers have a HUGE anvil in store for Jacinto. Somehow he's managing to be more despicable than El Duque. I have my fingers crossed Ernestina will wake up. Last night he told her he married the wrong sister after seeing her work the crowd at the event for funds for the handicapped, or whatever that was. She's working her way up the ladder and may push him off his pedestal.
Yes, it's awful watching Yadira's mother treat her that way. I guess they're going with her not forgiving Yadira for her former addiction. And, ewww. Did her disgusting brother watch whatever teasing, nude videos Yadira was doing? To me it looks like she was desperately trying to pay off Maribel. And, yes, this is not prostitution.
I felt like throwing a shoe at my screen when Laura was buying Perrón's being contrite. And, while he's trying to get her back, he's also accepting money from the child's father to take her kid from her. In his horrid mind that's: two birds, one stone. No kid around to siphon any affection from Perrón himself and some money in his pocket. If she goes back to him, I'm planning on some FF>>
If I were a beautician watching this novela, I'd be taking offense. I have an appointment tomorrow with mine for a haircut. She's Argentinian, and we sometimes dish about La Reina del Sur and Argentina's recent World Cup victory. These three stylists are all quite damaged people.
Novelera, thank you for bringing us all the drama,
I hope Laura isn't foolish enough to fall for brutish Perron's pleas. Yeah, he's sorry until the next time he attacks her .
Is,Susana dead,? That was an awful scene .So bizarre that she doesn't see what a butcher heartless Maribel is.
Torres always looks exhausted by trying to fight the neverending evil. Susan
Novelera: I also had a hunch that Marco was dirty. The body language said it all!
Susan: Expecting the Body Count will be increasing aggressively.
PS: The actor, who portrayed the late Sebastian is engaged to Madison Anderson Barrios of Puerto Rico, the Runner-Up 2019 Miss Universe.
Kat in SC, Susan, Novelera, Dondi356 & Co.,: Did y'all know that Marie Jose Camacho (Ana del Pino from "VENGANZA") was also on the remake of the Colombian Telenovela "DEVUELVEME" ?
Novelera, thanks for the additional details. Glad to hear Torres's partner shot into the air rather shoot his partner. Maybe there's hope for him.
My thanks to novelera for the recap and to all the commenters trying to keep the page going. I keep falling behind. I feel sort of meh about this TN. It doesn’t help that it’s a remake of something I’ve already seen. I’m not impressed with Fabiola Guajardo as Gloria. And Ivan Arana has the same annoying half-asleep look he had in ESDLC, only this time he’s a cop instead of a narco. What I find interesting is that they have no problem killing off characters you’d expect to be around for a while. No one is safe in this TN.
I’ll continue to do Friday recaps. Recap will be up later today.
Dondi, yes, the writers are killing off people left and right . and yes, Ivan seem s to have the same sleepy , hang dog look whether he is playing a good guy, a bad guy, or a bad guy with a good heart ..yawn.
I have only seen Vanilla play bad girls, and she is better at that .
I have never seen Adelaide playing a villain this evil . yikes Susan
Susan: Adela is the Queen of Antagonists. I'm going to assume that Susana went to the BIGLY Sky during that botched cosmetic surgery ?
Gloria bangs on the salon door. Bolillo runs to the back room to inform Maribel, who is begging Susana to hold on [this is both gross and heartbreaking.] Maribel tells Bolillo to take Susana to the car and wait outside.
Maribel opens the door for Gloria and shouts, what do you want?! Gloria pulls a gun on Maribel and asks, where is Susana? Take me to your secret room! You can’t operate on Susana, she’s anemic. She has no medical clearance and doesn’t even know. Maribel tells Gloria to put down her gun and calls her ungrateful—I hired you so you could care for your son.
Gloria is unmoved—take me to the backroom! Maribel says fine, but there’s nothing there. Maribel picks up a small cart and throws it at Gloria. Gloria drops the gun, and Maribel runs towards the back. Gloria recovers but Maribel puts another obstacle in her way and manages to get to the room and shut the door.
Castillo has Eduardo at gunpoint. Ed asks, who are you to point your gun at me? Castillo asks about the money. Ed says yes, I seized money. A mission I was working on with Marco, but he didn’t show. Have you seen him? Why should I know, Castillo replies, doesn’t he work with you? Castillo still has the gun on Eduardo. Ed asks, why are you so tense? Do you have a complaint against me? Why the gun? Castillo finally lowers it.
Castillo claims he’s tense because one of his agents was killed. Ed plays along and asks, what happened? How did it happen? Castillo says he was undercover and was found out. Ed answers that he wishes he was there to help. I’d like to take you to a bar to have a few drinks, Ed says, but I have something important to do. Castillo lets him go.
Yadira cries and packs. She thinks about her fling with Sebas. She thinks about her mother’s insults. She finds some drugs she’s hidden.
Ed shows up at the salon. Gloria shouts, Maribel is operating on Susana! Ed announces—FGE! I’m gonna break down the door!
Castillo calls Duque. I tried to get your money back. Something went wrong and it was seized. Duque complains, why does everyone want to steal my money? Castillo makes it clear that he’s not keeping any of Duque’s money. It was Eduardo Torres. Duque says that Ed is already on his blacklist.
Amparo speaks with Facundo on the phone. He’s with Karen in San Diego. The police changed their names. She’s keeping their secret.
Matilde comes to the kitchen for tea. Amparo prepares it. Mati notes that Amparo is nervous after her phone call. Amparo says she was talking to Karen’s mom. Both their children are missing. It must be difficult, Mati says.
Amparo deftly switches the subject, you say that because of Gloria? I haven’t seen her in a long time, Mati regretfully replies, I said awful things to her. I let anger get the best of me… I rejected her as my daughter. Now I don’t know about my grandson. Don’t worry, Amparo says, you know where she is, soon you’ll give her hugs and kisses you owe her. On the other hand, I don’t know if I’ll ever hug my son again.
Laura finds unconscious Yadira and the drugs.
Perron talks to someone about a passport he needs asap. Get the kid [Laura’s son] today.
Glo and Ed make it to the operatory. It’s empty. Ed follows a trail of blood on the floor that leads to a door. Ed opens it and there is Susana, on the floor. She’s dead. Ed surveys the operatory. Looks like Maribel tried to insert a gastric balloon. Gloria asks dead Susana why she did this. You lost your life for a few followers. Glo tells Ed that Maribel needs to be stopped. QEPD, Susana.
Cheery Luisa wheels in and tells Mati that she should be out with her instead of staying inside. Luisa is thrilled with the reception she received when she announced she would work for disabled people’s rights. She declares, the people love me! Mati claims she’s happy for Luisa and she’s sure she will be mayor.
Luisa senses a “but”. Mati notes that Luisa never cared for politics. I have the feeling you’re doing this to avoid facing what happened to you—paralysis, Fernando. Luisa retorts, you worry about me, but you insist on reminding me of the past. I grieved in my own way. I’m trying to move on and start over. Luisa adds that she’s planning on moving out of her house and going to JJ and Gloria’s!
Bolillo flashes back to a moment with Susana. He wants something serious with her. She is reluctant because he’s a jealous guy. If you loved me, she says, you’d understand my work as an influencer. I want millions of followers. No one will stop me. End flash. Bolillo wipes tears.
Maribel gets in the car with Bolillo. She gripes, I don’t have any cash. We’ll need it to get out of the country. Bolillo snaps at her, I’m broke too. Maribel says that Perron has her money. Take me there.
Laura helps Yadira. She gets a call from the drunk and drugged scumbag Perron. He’s sorry… he misses her. He can’t live without her. Laura responds, that’s sweet but you unleash your inner demon after snorting a line. I’ll change, he cries, I’ve apologized a thousand times, and I’ll apologize a thousand more. Laura stands firm. No, Luigi, I appreciate it, but I can’t bring my son here if we don’t get along. Perron says he’s going to bring the kid no matter what. He swears he won’t lay a hand on her again, much less in front of the kid.
The call is interrupted by banging on Perron’s door. It’s Maribel. Perron quickly hangs up with Laura and opens up for Maribel and Bolillo. He’s told that Susana is dead. She died during surgery. Maribel adds that Gloria and her cop BF showed up.
Ramona shows up at the salon and sees the disarray. Glo and Ed come out from the back. Ramona says the neighbors called her, they heard noises. Gloria tells her, we had an issue with Maribel. Do you know where we can find her? If she’s not here, then she’s home, Ramona replies. Gloria asks for the address. Ramona won’t give it. Ed informs Ramona that Maribel is accused of murder. Help us or you’ll be in trouble with the law. Glo drops the bomb—Maribel operated on Susana and killed her. Ramona is shocked. Ed warns, don’t cover for her or you’ll go to prison for being an accomplice.
Ed gets a call from Laura. Maribel is at Perron’s. He tells Gloria to stay and make sure Ramona doesn’t leave. He will send someone to get Susana’s body and search the salon. And Ramona will be questioned.
As expected, Maribel takes no accountability for what happened with Susana. She says, all we can do now is run. We have to go! Wait, wait, Perron replies, what do you mean? I didn’t hurt Susana. Neither did I, Bolillo says, you killed her. Maribel hisses at Bolillo, you helped me. She looks at Perron—and you brought the vet. She sneers, so don’t come with me. It’s better this way. Give me my money.
What money, Perron replies, it’s not here. Maribel attacks Perron and asks for Bolillo’s help. Bolillo says Maribel’s on her own. He tosses the keys to her car and leaves. Maribel calls Perron a traitor and threatens to take Perron and Bolillo with her if she goes down. She’ll tell the cops that he buried the Piñero sisters. Perron says she won’t be able to prove it. Maribel smashes a beer bottle and waves it at Perron—I want my money now!
Gloria tells Ramona that Maribel killed Susana, and she must have killed Olga and Caro. Ramona can’t believe it. Maribel was fond of Susana [really?] Gloria fires back, she took advantage of an innocent girl! Bolillo enters the salon. Gloria remembers him from the wanted flyer. And that he almost killed Fercho.
Bolillo admits it but he says he’s there to talk to the police. I saw Maribel operate on Susana. I was there when she killed her. He continues, I was in love with Susana. I was jealous when I saw her with Fercho. Gloria asks, if you loved her, why did you let her do this? I didn’t think it’d go wrong, he replies. Gloria rips into Bolillo—you and Maribel must pay! Talk to the police and help them stop Maribel. Bolillo warns Gloria that Maribel is coming after her.
Perron easily disarms Maribel. She demands her money. She wants Perron to come with her. They are partners. Perron says he only got crumbs from her. She reminds him that she pulled him out of the trash. He was dealing drugs when they met. [from one trash heap to another.]
Perron pulls a gun on Maribel. He says, I won’t kill you because you’re not worth the sentence. Leave. Maribel boldly answers, it’s not the sentence, you just don’t have the cojones to kill me. He tells her to leave again. She responds, you’re dead. She finally leaves and Perron starts snorting drugs.
Bolillo warns Gloria that Maribel is planning to hurt Dani. Glo thinks it’s a bluff to make her leave. What do I gain by lying, Bolillo replies, Susana is dead, but your son is alive. I don’t want to add another name to my body count. Maribel is going to the hospital. Gloria cautions Bolillo he better not be lying and adds that they need to stay and not warn Maribel. She leaves.
Ramona immediately takes out her phone to warn Maribel. Bolillo grabs the phone.
Mati is troubled that Luisa wants to live in JJ and Gloria’s house. She’s still obsessed with Gloria. Luisa denies it and says, if I were obsessed, I’d have reported her for killing Fernando and paralyzing me. I didn’t because you asked me not to. Mati says, I appreciate that but… I’m also doing what you asked. I haven’t seen Gloria in months, and I know nothing about my grandson. Luisa answers, don’t waste your tears on them. My so-called sister doesn’t care about how I’m doing. But in this life, everything comes at a price [Eng translation was, you reap what you sow.] Luisa wheels out.
Perron cleans up his apartment. There’s a knock at the door—FGE! Luigi Parra, this is Agent Torres. Perron tucks his gun, puts down his trash bag, puts on sunglasses and opens the door. Ed has his gun on Perron and orders, hands up! Perron asks if he has a warrant. Ed quickly checks the other rooms. I’m not sure what Perron kicked under the coffee table. Maybe a stack of money.
Ed thinks Perron is hiding Maribel. And if he’s hiding her, he’s in big trouble. Perron admits Maribel was there, but he kicked her out. He kicked her out when he found out what she did to Susana. Ed snarks, what a humanitarian you are. I know you work for Maribel. Where is she?
Gloria calls Ed. He tells her Maribel is not at Perron’s. He tells her not to do anything and he will contact the hospital security staff. He tells Perron not to leave the city. They are looking for Maribel and he is a suspect. Perron asks why. He didn’t kill Susana. Ed says he’s an accomplice. If you leave, he says, it will be worse for you. Ed leaves and Perron gets a bag and puts some cash in it.
Maribel arrives at the hospital pretending to be sick. A worker comes by with a laundry cart and Maribel asks for help. The woman goes to get a doctor, and Maribel takes the woman’s jacket and the cart.
Ramona starts gathering evidence. She tells Bolillo, we have to get rid of the biopolymers. Bolillo tells her not to waste her time. The cops know. She asks him, do you want to go to prison? She adds, I’m not a traitor. [ha, Maribel would turn on Ramona in a second.] Ramona goes back to her work.
Ramona’s phone rings and Bolillo hands it to her. It’s Fercho. He’s been calling Susana, and she doesn’t answer. Same for Laura and Yadira. Do you know where Susana is? Ramona says no… you should hear from them. Fercho is getting nervous. Laura and Yadira came to him and asked him about Susana. He wants some answers. Ramona sighs—I’m sorry to be the one to tell you but… Susana had a stomach surgery and… something went wrong. She died.
Gloria goes to Dani’s room and he’s not there. The bed was stuffed with pillows and blankets. Daniel! Help! Cops arrive. They were sent by Commander Torres. Gloria shouts, you’re too late! Maribel took him! Help! Ed arrives and orders a hospital search.
Maribel has Dani in the cart. It’s like a game. He thinks his mom sent Maribel to play with him. Dani mentions something about talking to strangers. Maribel says she’s not a stranger, she’s mom’s boss. She wheels Dani into a room and asks, want to play another game? Close your eyes and don’t open them. Maribel has a syringe full of something.
Laura is still with Yadira, who is sleeping. Frantic Fercho calls—have you heard from Susana? Is it true that she’s dead? Laura is shocked. Dead? Who told you that? I can’t believe it, Fercho replies, but Ramona said Maribel operated on Susana and that she’s dead. Fercho cries, she said I’d never see her again.
Maribel leaves the room, smugly satisfied.
Ed and Glo look at security video and see Maribel with the cart and Daniel. They head in the direction that Maribel took.
Perron shows up at Yadira’s place. Ugh, Laura opens the door.
Gloria spots Maribel and shouts for Eduardo. Maribel heads for the elevator. Yay! Gloria catches her before the doors close. Gloria points her gun. Maribel knocks the gun out of Gloria’s hand. Gloria fights back and gets Maribel in a choke hold. Where is my son?! Maribel replies, you ruined my life and my salon. I’m going to destroy you and your kid. The women struggle. Gloria wants to know where Dani is.
Ed breaks up the fight. Maribel is put under arrest for the murder of Susana Mendez. Gloria demands to know where Dani is. Maribel answers, ahorita ya debe estar fresco como lechuga, [he should be fresh or cool as lettuce?] Eng trans—he’s as cool as a cucumber. Gloria repeats, cool? I know where he is! She runs off with Ed following.
Laura lets Perron in. [They are in Gloria’s apartment?] He asks her if she’s been crying. She brings up Susana. Maribel killed her. He plays dumb and shocked. Laura doesn’t believe him. She heard when Maribel showed up at his place. Perron claims he didn’t let her in, he was busy. Unfortunately, Laura believes that. Perron continues, I was working on a surprise for you. He shows her a Mexican passport for her son. She is overjoyed and grateful and flings herself into Perron’s arms. He asks her to come back to the house with him.
Fercho shows up at the back room of the salon and finds Susana’s body. He holds her and cries, why, why? I’ll never love anyone like I loved you. [I keep hoping Susana’s not really dead.]
Ramona is trying to destroy Maribel’s records. The paperwork proves they laundered money. [does she think tearing papers in half will do the trick?] Bolillo says don’t bother. Fercho finds Ramona and Bolillo. He calls them murderers.
Perron throws stuff at sleeping Yadira. Laura tells him, leave her alone, she’s not feeling well. Can’t fool Perron. He knows Yadira is hung over. Once again, he asks Laura to come home. Let’s celebrate the passport. Laura replies, I really appreciate everything you’re doing, but this is strange. Why are you helping us now?
Perron answers, hasn’t this been important to you? Of course, Laura says, but it took almost killing me to want to help? He tells her that’s not it. He couldn’t help before because…[he pauses to think of a credible reason]… he didn’t have the money. Laura wants to know where he got the money. She doesn’t want trouble. I sold my moto, Perron lies. She doesn’t believe he sold something so important to him. He loves that moto. He responds, there’s nothing I love more than you.
Fercho attacks Bolillo. He begs Bolillo to kill him because he can’t live without Susana. Bolillo has his knife out. Ramona shouts they have to leave.
Glo and Ed get to the room where she thinks Dani is. Ha, Glo pushes Ed out of the way and kicks in the door! Ay, no. The room has air conditioners [?] full blast and there’s a small body covered up on a table. Feet are sticking out and there’s a toe tag that I can’t read. Is that Dani?
And we are out!
Dondi, thank you for that detailed recap as this story continues to break by us more trouble and terror, and Torres and Gloria fall in love . Okay .
Torres seems to have nobody he can trust except Gloria. He is surrounded by corruption.
Yikes. There are no bright spots in this show.
So instead of leaving town , Maribel decides to go to the hospital and go after Gloria's son for revenge. Brilliant .
And Yadira takes drugs...again.
And Laura seems to believe brutish Perron. Rinse and repeat. Susan
Dondi356: Enjoyed your long recap of last night's episode. The creepy obsession that Luisa has about Gloria: I mean JJ is dead & Dumbass Mathilde wants nothing to do with Gloria & Daniel. Now this dumbass wheelchair-bound asshole wants to get elected Mayor ? LOL.
Susan: Not shocked Yadira is back on the drugs: FAST FORWARD.
RIP Susana: All because she wanted some STUPID ass followers.
This is the second week in a row that something odd has happened with my DVR. I've always been able to record two things at the same time. And it does it all week long, except for Friday. I've been thinking about the 10PM show on Uni, the one with Arap Bethke. I watched the first one and the rest are sitting on the DVR. So that one is there, but Jefa is not. Also, last week I couldn't play the one on my computer until, I think, Sunday. Normally they're up there the following day.
I just wanted to chime in and thank dondi for the recap. I haven't read it yet, because I like to see the episode first.
Well, I finally was able to find the whole episode. I can't tell if Telemundo's web site is lame or whether novelera is lame.
Thanks SO much, dondi, for the terrific recap! It was interesting to read it immediately after watching the episode. You got it all!
One thing I've noticed over and over again in TN's. One of our heroines moves into what looks like a shabby apartment. She doesn't have much money. We see her sweeping or moving things around. Two episodes later the place is huge and well furnished. Gloria's place has been transformed and seems to have enough space for Laura.
Eduardo was cool as a cucumber convincing Castillo to let him go. He saw the rat shoot the other cop who thought he was going undercover, but didn't let on to Castillo.
Hmmm. The police changed Facundo and the young woman's names? This seems odd. They have info on El Duque's drug labs, but it's the U.S. who's helping out? In this current political climate?
Luisa is SO obsessed. I can envision her moving into Gloria's house and smelling Juan José's clothing. And her jealousy of her sister extends to the poor diabetic kid that she was pleased her mother had not seen.
I think Perrón may have really had Maribel's money. I remember Ramona saying something about the possibility of Torres raiding again and perhaps finding the money she'd earned by laundering money.
Fercho? We saw him for about 5 minutes, and now he says he'll never love anyone the way he loved Susana? When he was maudlin, he remembered Susi saying he'd never see THIS body again, meaning she'd be a lot slimmer next time. I saw a novela recently on Uni where a young woman had an issue with bulimia, also wanting to be an "influencer". This word has even moved into Spanish.
I am curious. I never saw Señora Acero. Was there also the theme of back-room tummy tucks in that one?
Gracias, Dondi. Super job. You said! --"[from one trash heap to another}" perfectly sums up Perron.
ITA that it's wild that characters you'd expect to stick around have been killed off. I'm still shocked about Sebas.
The more interesting characters to me now are El Duque and Laura. I have to take issue with mom Matilde. Laura is not sinking into depression, so there's something to be said for that instead of trashing her for her obsessive hate for Gloria.
Susan, ITA on Maribel.
Thanks everyone. You are not lame, novelera! It’s totally on Telemundo!
"influencer" has also made its way into dizis.
“I never saw Señora Acero. Was there also the theme of back-room tummy tucks in that one?” Yes, and the “Maribel” role was played by the late Rebecca Jones.
“Sebas” didn’t stick around for long in the original either, but both times he went out as a hero, IMO.
They are calling this a “Super Series” like the original, so I guess we are going to get more than one season. The narconovelas get good ratings for Telemundo so they will keep churning them out, whether we like it or not. I’d rather watch them than the reality stuff. “La Reina” was a stellar series. I thought “Pablo Escobar, el Patrón del Mal” was very good. Andrés Parra was excellent as Escobar. The first two seasons of El Señor Depends were good, the subsequent ones not so much, but I casually watched them anyway.
