PAPAS #78 Part 1

Previously: Following Dámaso’s reveal as the twins’ father, he engages in a series of denials and histrionics. Negative comments finally start appearing online as a result of sexual abuse accusations against him. He considers his contributions on view fam make him indispensable but is very much mistaken. Aidé, who values trustworthiness and character over ratings, states his actions are unconscionable. He is a liability; she fires him post haste. Dámaso is livid and throws Damaris out of his house.

Felipe has agreed to Aidé working remotely. When she announces she wants to take the children and get out of Dodge to avoid El Calacas, she is greeted with stunned silence.

A worried Lichita tries to talk to Chofis. Guzmán calls Fed telling her to get Chano out of town. Fed calls Chano when he is with Lichita and informs him she is sending him to Tijuana – immediately.

Guzmán brings El Calacas to Fed’s hospital room. Fed flirts with El Calacas and puts her phone number into his phone. (Viewerville suspects Fed and El Calacas have met previously).

Chofis is lying on her bed burning up, murmuring in her sleep. Lichita calls Checo who rushes over but unfortunately, Guzmán in in tow. She is alarmed when Guzmán appears asking why he is there; Checo quicky scoops his sister up in his arms to take her to the hospital.

Clara Luz tries to talk with Rudolf but he pushes her away, cowed by Rosalinda’s threats. Yet, he tells her nothing. He seemingly wants them to separate.

At the hospital, Lichita confronts Guzmán, asking if he hurt Chofis - yes or no?? Lichita is in Guzmán’s face as he looks around furtively then shoves her up against the wall of the waiting room, threatening her.

The children’s plan to get Aidé and Tino together worked like a charm. They text back and forth; he tells her how wonderful she is. He writes something (??) on his fingers and then asks her if she wants to marry him.

We begin with Aidé writing something on Tino’s hand, we suspect it is “si” and the lovebirds kiss. Circe records the special moment as all the children clap in delight. The chant “besos” rings out and Tino points to his lips in effect asking her to “plant” one right there!

Guzmán is still whispering vile threats in Lichita’s ears talking about Chofis. When someone enters the waiting area, he mutters something and walks out as she evaporates in tears and covers her mouth.

Clara Luz is in tears asking Rudolf to explain himself. He confirms he wants to separate as she calls him stupid and talks about Pipe. She takes his face in her hands and asks what is it? He won’t answer so she says OK, she wants to be alone and leaves as he winces.

PAPAS #78 Part 2

Lichita gently talks to Chofis in her hospital bed. I don’t know exactly what Chofis says but Lichita holds her tightly and asks if she is OK. Yes Chofis answers. She calls Guzmán a monster. The doctor wants to see her and she kisses the top of her daughter’s head. Chofis cries, she was in so much pain and emotional turmoil, it was hard to watch.

Aidé frets to Tino about El Calacas and Guzmán. Guzmán then makes his way to Fed’s hospital bed to torture her.

Is it serious Chofis asks her mother? A sweet and loving Lichita assures her she will be all right.

Tino tells Emi what is going on with Fed. “Forgive me” poor agitated Emi says. He starts having terrible pain and Tino wheels him out.

Lichita confronts Fed and calls her a zorra. Fed says something about Guzmán; Lichita looks flummoxed.

Clara Luz and Rudolf are at work when Don Jorge comes in. They speak but the message seems unclear.

“Hola” says Rosalind as she rides in on her broom. Clara Luz says she is worried. Rudolf tells Rosalinda he will go along with her. She seems happy but he pushes her back when she tries to glom onto him.

Aidé and Tino talk to the doctor. The US is mentioned again as is Jason’s name. (So, whatever operation he needed wasn’t done in Mexico? So they just waited??).

Augusto and Bertha had a nice moment.

Chofis and Lichita are home; she hugs her daughter. Chofis talks about her STD; I think she is concerned about Chano’s reaction. She is upset about Guzmán too. They hug as Lichita telling her they are family; Chofis looks scared.

We are back in court, Guzmán on one side, Rudolf and Clara Luz on the other. The judge reaffirms Clara Luz and Rudolf are Pipe’s parents. Guzmán drones on about him being Pipe’s uncle. The judge may have questioned him about why he was separated from Pipe but I was a bit lost here.

Diana

PAPAS #78 Part 3

Clara Luz stands up and makes a speech. She puts her hand on Rudolf’s and explains about Silvana (beyotch Rosalinda removes Clara Luz’ hand from his). The Judge stops her and clarifies Pipe name while Guzmán objects. A loud argument breaks out with Guzmán, Clara Luz and Rudolf all standing and talking at once. I believe the case is continued.

Back at Maxiclick, Guzmán questions one of the women about Lichita. He texts someone about Lichita and Chano being in Tijuana.

Bad penny Dámaso shows up to darken Guzmán’s door. Guzmán is surprised but not in a good way. In a later scene, Guzmán plays a scene of protestors rallying against Dámaso. They talk about Tino (their common enemy it appears) but Guzmán makes fun of Dámaso’s perpetual namaste posture.

Chano (in all his six pack non-glory) calls Lichita …..from Tijuana. She needs to talk to him – in person.

All the kids are gathered at the hospital. Aidé wears a lovely pink blazer and raspberry shirt. Tino and Aidé hug and kiss. Fer, in her wheelchair, sees them and fumes.

Aidé talks with and comforts Uli.

Facundo calls Fed talking a mile a minute. He is obviously in a hurry to leave but as he questions her, officials show up at his door as Fed smirks.

Fed calls El Calacas who murmurs something about secrets. She has some nefarious plan, talking about money; he looks a bit scared.

Tino tells Emi he loves him and takes his leave…

Clara Luz is talking to Rudolf as Rosalinda listens in. He tells her he loves her as they kiss. Te amo’s are exchanged. The bottom line is that he has betrayed Rosalinda whose face reflects her fury as she quietly leaves.

Oh no. Emi is sleeping as Fed slithers into his room. She has a black box in her hands which she plants in Tino’s wheelchair. Emi wakes, horrified to see her. Thank heavens, Tino comes in. She tries to make an excuse wearing a (fake) pathetic sad face. Tino sends her packing. “Hijo are you all right he asks him”. Yes sweet Emi replies.

Facundo is behind bars as he gets a visit from Aidé. I cannot relate what was said.

Diana

PAPAS #78 Part 4 of 4

Back in court, Rosalinda stands up and throws her clients under the bus, to their complete and utter shock.

Chano comes home and a grim Lichita tells him to sit. Chofis comes in and sits down. (Why on earth Lichita didn’t talk to him privately escapes me). Chofis gulps and begins, telling him she has an infection. Not comprehending, Chano seems to make light of it. But when she tells him it is a sexual infection, he erupts in fury.

Guzmán stands up, taking advantage of Rosalinda destroying her clients’ case as they try and protest.

Oh no, Tino leaves Emi with Augusto.

Chano is out of control, blaming Lichita for what happened. Checo, who has been quietly observing in the background, comes forward, telling his father off.

Igor does a view fam livestream of he and Tino talking with officials who have arrived. I can’t translate what was said as they are shown out.

El Calacas and Fed talk and to our horror, we see he is showing her the functions of a remote control. They exchange putrid kissy faces. He gives it to her and she actually squeals.

Dámaso is waiting for Tino outside. He goes to hit Tino but Tino knocks him down with one quick punch. Wimp.

Facundo signs papers and gives them to Aidé. He says something about Fed which seems to alarm her.

We next see Fed who is squatting down beside a car. She clutches the remote control in her hideous claw. We see it is a bomb she has planted in Emi’s chair. As the large, illuminated numbers start counting down, she makes a hideous face, clearly delighting in the fact Emi is going to be blown to smithereens. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…and there we end.

Fed’s cruelty knows no bounds, does it? I can’t imagine how this is going to play out; I mean, Emi must survive, right? I apologize for not being to fill in some of the details but the dialogue was beyond me. Thank you all for your kindness and assistance in helping supply so much that I can’t understand.

Las hijas #82 romance part 1

Rocio watches the news. It talks about the success of the Portillo business. She gets her memento box, removed a photo of her defunct husband out, then gets something wrapped in a red shawl from another cabinet and puts it in her purse. This is for you my love. She kisses the photo.

Val effusively tells Nick about her niece. They're off to buy her a gift.

Juan wants to go home and shower and changes to be presentable for his daughter. He tells his folks he plans to marry Mar ASAP. They tell him they approve. Susana admits she was hard on Mar because of how she felt about Ofelia.

Val and Nico talk some more. Is she rejecting him? I can't tell. He tells her whatever she decides he'll always be there for her

Rocio is at the mansion. She shoves the maid and yells for Luis. He starts down the stairs as she yells it's your fault I was kept from my son. Arturo hears the yelling and asks her what she is doing there.

Val and Mar coo over the baby. Mar has never felt so much love. They both understand mom better now

Luis is telling Rocio to leave as she calls Arturo, hijo, which Luis questions. He tries to force her out as Arturo intervenes then Nick enters the house as Rocio goes after him because he betrayed her son.
Back to Mar and Val. She and Juan are going to get back together, but first she needs to talk to Luis. Val says the whole Portillo family are now on her side. Mar wonders which guy Val will choose.

Luis once again tries to remove Rocio. She pulls out a pistol. She insists Luis tells the truth. She fires at him but Nick jumps in front of him and is shot in the shoulder/chest. Luis tells you just shot your son. She keeps insisting Arturo is her son. Turns out she abandoned Nick because she wasn't up to caring for him. She admits to pushing Graciela in front of a bus. Nick has heard it all but looks pretty bad. Arturo claimed to be Rocio's son to protect Nick from the truth. Nick tells Luis he always considered him dad and he was the best.

Val tells Mar she doesn't want to hurt either of them. It may be best to tell them both no. O comes in to visit, her granddaughter is strong. The 4 Garcia's.

Is it a death scene? Nick tells Arturo to take care of Valeria. Then he closes his eyes and slumps further in Luis arms. Rocio wails because she likely killed her son. Still no ambulance...

Some time later. Luis, Cami ,Leo and Arturo are at the cemetery delivering flowers to a grave. They can't believe it. But always will be with us. Ah they are discussing Cecilia, because thankfully Nico arrives with flowers. Sorry I'm late . It's the one year anniversary. Luis thanks her for helping him regain his children.

O is bringing yellow flowers to the Virgincita. She thanks her for making her a better mother and grandmother.

Mar and Juan bring their new baby to see Luis. Her name is Luisa ( how sweet). Juan thanks him for protecting Mar when she needed help. Happy families. Nick has recovered all movement in his shoulder. Leo is working with Dad as his right hand man. Nick and Arturo are working together, and Cami has joined the company. Mar tells him, see you united the family. He says now I can go in peace which she tells him you can't leave our lives now! We want you to be Luisa's padrino.

Thanks for the updates, I haven't been here in forever. But doing a search on the hijas ending l came across this. So many questions. Although lil Mar & Juan it the Jackpot That kid will have it made. Now if I just could figure the rest out.

Las hijas # 82 part 2

The Portillo's are in a meeting at the office all giving their respect input of the business.. Luis comes in. They are off to lunch.

Val and Mar are in her apartment. Val gets a phone call. It's some international lady ( Carolina
Guillen) that likes her photos and wants to sign her up. Val says yes. If this were earlier in the series I'd be questioning this event. The lady looks at the phone in a sinister type way after she hangs up. Mar wants Val to be Luisa's madrina. Mar wonders what brought about Val's change towards Ofelia. Mom told me things that made me see her differently. When she is ready she will tell you also.

Let's not forget Paula. She is the laughing stick of her cell. They don't believe she is a Portillo, nor a famous model. One of the inmates asks would she like a gift for when she leaves. She slices her in the face with a knife. Didn't see that coming!

Val still hasn't made her choice as she speaks with Nick and their song plays.

Cami is drawing designs in Cecelia's studio. Luis is delighted she is using the space. She says the space inspires her.

Val and Arturo meet for a meal I think it is "their" place. He doesn't want her answer there. Is she turning him down. I'm so confused.

Nick visits Rocio in prison. She thanks him for coming. She tells him a day never went by that she didn't regret giving him up, but when he was born she couldn't cope without his father. Nick tells her his mother told him everyone deserves a second chance. He will continue to visit her and get to know her ( Arturo has a lot to answer for in her being in jail. Nick would have been able to handle the news, I believe,.. well except for the pushing of Graciela and Mar of course, that may have sent her to jail). She can call him son.

Luis stops and admires a photo montage on the wall at his house. Cecilia is in the center. Leo made it it seems.

O is at home. Her metal door sure is loud when people knock. It's Susana and Jacinto. He has a jug of sweet tea. She has a baby gift. Looks like she knitted Luisa a sweater. It's white. O says white? She has a yellow blanket for baby. Jacinto tells them let's not compete who has the best gift. They are both pretty. Juan and Mar In a pink pants suit arrive with Luisa. Susana is sweet to her. Luis, Leo and Cami arrive. He brought some wine. I'm not sure if it is a hoity toity wine or just a kind she likes. I think there was a joke in that gift. ( Can Anyone explain it?) Val arrives in a bustier top and jeans. The two rivals for Val's affection meet outside the Casita. They have agreed to respect vals choice. Hugs

Paula is trying to befriend one of the inmates so they are a team against the other two.

O thinks Luisa would make a great baby diaper model....Val says mom you never change.

Val takes both her guys aside in the Casita to tell them her decision. They all embrace. Photo is then taken of the Garcia girls and we have no definite answer of what or who she chose... argh. I guess each of us can give it our own ending. I say she's off to be a famous model but the lady who hires her has evil intentions towards her and Nick has to save her and we get a second season.....

Papas
The judge brings up the delay in Guzman reporting Pipe's being missing. Also the brother testified that Guzman never visited Pipe. So where is this great care he has for his nephew. Guzman claims he didn't have time because of his job which doesn't help his case with the judge.

Papas
Dameso wants to be hired by maxiclik but he is toxic now. Guzman hopes he can make a living sell his herbs.

Aide and Facundo discuss the night that Uli was molested. She needs him to think who was there. Augusto was mentioned, but aide says he was with her at the hospital the entire time. Guzman also was there at the party. But he wants with aide at the hospital so they are getting closer.

Papas
The police have come to shut the place down because of them hiding pipe their. Seems they may all be guilty But the paperwork is dated to tomorrow so they leave.

I do better watching this after you have posted so I know what needs clarification. But I watched it then did my Las hijas and came back to your post so hopefully Liz or someone can fill in the rest of the blanks.

Las hijas
Anonymous, the rest is posted of the finale. Hopefully you can figure out how to look back on the previous posts from the past 80 episodes and have some questions answered.

LAS HIJAS

Kat, thank you for your thoughtful, clever and wise recap. Your recaps have been inspired throughout.

"Val and Mar coo over the baby. Mar has never felt so much love. They both understand mom better now" perfectly reflected the essence and heart of this story.

Although we surmised Val might not choose either Bachelor #1or #2, having that actually occur felt unsettling and incomplete. It seemed like a cop-out.

I think Val chose her career. That said, I also had an immediate bad vibe about the woman who called Val offering her the job. Was Pris pulling the strings? Something seemed clearly amiss.

Paula still scheming but no anvil? Huh?

There were a few sweet moments; Luis becoming Luisa's padrino; everyone getting along (I did notice Cami avoided Mar at the party, keeping true to character) and sweet Luisa herself. Ofelia will always be Ofelia.

I so enjoyed your and Adriana's unfailingly fine recaps. This was such a fun patio, I was so happy to be a part of it.

Diana

PAPAS

Kat, thank you for clearing up some very important details and for doing it so very well.

"The judge brings up the delay in Guzman reporting Pipe's being missing. Also the brother testified that Guzman never visited Pipe. So where is this great care he has for his nephew" was critically important. I couldn't follow Rosalinda's treacherous speech to the court but at least the scales were a bit less lopsided due to what the judge learned about Guzman.

Glad Guzman sent Dam packing. Adios, hopefully we've seen the last of him.

I think Uli's memory will come through and he will remember some vital clue that will tell him who his attacker was.

For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why the authorities were there with the court order/warrant. I so appreciate your explaining it all had to to with hiding Pipe there.

So good of you to do this Kat, especially after all the work you put into your excellent Hijas finale. Thank you.

Diana

Las hijas

Thank you, Kat! That was a great recap of one of the most meh finales I have ever seen.

Little did we know that we could have
A. she chooses Nick
B. she chooses Art
C. she probably chooses herself, but we don't actually get to hear her give some empowering speech about women, because leaving things up in the air is the way to go.

The lady who called her is nothing sinister (or thr hint of a sequel). The producer just used this scene to tease the novela he is doing next - a remake of El privilegio de amar and Triumfo del amor. The main character is in fashion so it is implied thay Val will work for her and pursue a fashion career.
And no, I don't think her and Nick's story will have any kind of closurrme in this new novela because Emanuel Palomares is playing the lead, so it's likely that Val will never been shown.
The woman who called Valnisbplayed by Yadhira Carillo, who hasn't done a novela in a long time and having her come back is a pretty big deal in novela world. Therefor the teasing....

Anyway, I'll come back with the alternative endings later and my thoughts on the original Turkish story.

Once again thank you, Kat, doing this with you was so fun!!

Las hijas - alternate endings

Valeria chooses Arturo
We’re outside de casita. Art is on the phone talking work, then he checks some photos on his phone. He’s searching for someone to replace Val, but it’s frustrating, because she is irreplaceable.
Val comes to talk to him and hears his mumbling. He heard she has a job opportunity in Paris. Yeah, but she’s not going because her heart isn’t in it. She can’t stop thinking about him. She’d like to leave everything in the past and start over. So would he. She adds that he barged into her life like a hurricane and she can’t let him go. I love you’s are exchanged and they start kissing.

Valeria chooses Nick - the ending I was waiting for, if written well
Nick is outside de casita, on the phone with some people from Boston. He’s going to fix things as soon as he arrives, he says, and Val overhears him. She’s sad to find that he’s going to Boston. He thinks it’s for the best. She says she doesn’t want to be away from him. They both agree they went through something very difficult. But Val says it would be even harder to live without him. What she feels for him is not something one forgets easily. And what is that? Nick is almost afraid to ask.
She feels that she loves him. His kindness, his strength, the way he could always guess what she needed. She fell in love with him. Nick is very happy, he loves her, too. They kiss and Nick picks her up while they laugh.

So that's about it. Either way, we'de get about two minutes to wrap the story.
I definitely do not see someone whith Val's character going for the fun loving Art, her speech to Nick felt more realistic after the story that we've been seeing.

Since the producer didn't have the guts to stick to one ending, I guess we get this lame, confusing end where Val isn't even allowed to voice her choice out loud. It is implied that she chooses to let go of both men, which is the only sensible choice on the long run (because imagine all those family dinners if not), but it bothers me a lot because this is NOT how the Turkish version ended.

I've checked several videos of the original, it's kind of addictive and their Val and Nick are swoon worthy.
Basically the Mexican version only gave us half of the story. The Turkish novela continues for another almost 100 episodes after the kiss between Nick and Val (which is heart stopping, slow motion, nerve wrecking amazing in the original and they almost get caught by Art).
Art takes the news badly, he goes very dark, Nick and Val fight their chemistry for a very long time. Rocio gets even crazier, I'm not sure but I think she is involved in a plot where Val and Nick end up almost burried alive.
When Nick finds out he is Rocio's baby, he has a very hard time accepting it, he goes through an identity crisis. Nobody takes the growing bond between Nick and Val lightly, both Luis and Ofelia call it reckless and awful.
Camila goes dark, also, I believe she is the one who almost causes Mar's miscarriage.
Mar's story is the only one who follows the same timeline, she gives birth by the end and Juan does find out, but they only decide to co-parent, they never get back together (I think).
Paula's story is even more twisted, she actually has a daughter that is being raised by some woman. But I think she ends up in jail, regardless.

Ofelia is kind of left alone, Nick and Val are together and Art gets back together with his brother.
But Val is still a virgin by the end, so I guess they didn't change that.

Kat andAdriana, thanks for all of your recaps that kept the patio going. Adriana, thanks for all of the extra info. I was happy we found out the complete Rocío story. It was totally in Nic’s character to try to understand and foster a relationship with her. The novela wasn’t great but was entertaining enough to keep me watching every night. Valeria should have ended up with Nic. Yes, Adriana it was a “meh” finale all the way.

Hijas

So, we say goodbye to this fun novela. I saw much of the Turkish version way back and agree it got much darker, although I really liked the main actors.

I was sad our version left it in the air. I guess in real life it would be hard for Val to go with Nick, my choice. Family gatherings would be awkward if she chose either one. So, maybe she is launched and can go forward with her career and have N&A as supportive friends. Or, more likely, Arturo, being true-to-type, will find someone else, leaving V&N an opportunity.

I liked that the Mexican version had most everyone turn out ok. Even jailed Rocio looks to now have contact with her son, more than she ever had before. I liked the last scene with all the Garcia Portillas together. I like to see peace win out. Even Paula is starting to build some power, always her goal, in her new place. I was pleased the baby was named Luisa and liked the new pictures on the wall.

I really enjoyed this tale! All the recappers made it come to life! I always missed something in each episode! I was surprised that Rocio admits to pushing Luis’ sister. I thought it was really an accident, although I faulted her for the argument that preceded the accident. Rocio was a nut-job from the start. Interesting her son ends up being so calm!

Thank you all for the wonderful recaps and comments!

Babachita

Las hijas

Adriana the extras were great. I agree if Val had chosen either brother the family get togethers would have been uncomfortable. I think the only way it could have worked would have been if they both moved to Boston.

I'm glad you explained the lady that offered Val the job was a plug for a new show.

So the real love story was Mar and Juan in this TN, kinda how it seemed to play out the longer we watched. Also Luis with his undying love for Cecilia. O changed for the better but it was funny her telling Mar that Luisa was an even more beautiful baby than she had been.

I missed something about Juan and his career I think. Did anyone catch that part.

Recapping was fun, but the patio made it that much better. Adriana I loved having you for a partner. If anyone wants to join me on Juegos now that this one has finished and Papas is winding down, it would be fun to see you all there. Not sure the 2 new ones starting will appeal.

LAS HIJAS

Adriana, thank you for all the additional information on the potential endings and in the previous version.

I don't think the best option was chosen. Moreover, after 82 episodes we deserved to at least hear what Val said to Art and Nick when she made her choice! Val did not have a physical relationship with either brother; I think it was very plausible that her picking one of them wouldn't have ruined the family dynamics.

Kat, I agree that Mar and Juan were the heart of this but your comment "Also Luis with his undying love for Cecilia" was very insightful and true.

You were an amazing team - thank you both!

Diana

HIJAS
Yes, after all was said and done, I only liked Mar and Luis. ; )

Hijas
I did watch nearly every episode. I was so confused by the ending. The only life lesson I took away from this was keep a pair of converse oy with you at all times. Who mops a floor in a tight dress and spike heels?. Everything considered, I can't really see Val going anywhere, getting her out of the barrio was almost impossible. I like Nic best as Art was always one tiny disagreement from a binge drinking freak off . Still ..having Ofelia as a mother..eek.

"HIJAS"
Jarifa: Basically we're getting a 2nd Season aren't we ?

Papas

Thanks Diana, for the great recap. And to Kat for adding details. The only thing I can add is that when Fed was being wheeled by the nurse she saw Tino and Aide and the others. She tells the nurse that that’s the father of her baby. (Tino). Then she asks the nurse to find out which family member is in the hospital. I thought she’d try to smother Emi, but this is worse, this is what she had told Emi when she was terrorizing him, that there was a bomb in the wheelchair.

Also, Chofis wanted to tell her dad about her STD. And he reacted just how she predicted he would.

Tino and Aide talked about sending Emi to Jason as he has another tumor. But it’s small and doesn’t seem to be dangerous for him. I don’t know if they ever told us what the disease Emi has is, but if they can stop these tumors from growing Emi needs to go.

Fed is truely evil. Not sure how she’s hidden it all these years. Maybe Guzman wants to get rid of Fed and had El Calacas reverse the bomb. With one second to go I don’t know how Emi and Augusto can survive. But surely they will.

Las Hijas

Thanks so much for your excellent recap of the final episode. I enjoyed most of it, but not happy with the ending! We could have at least gotten to hear what Val told the brothers! And I was rooting for Nick.

The scene with Rocio was edge of your seat drama. Especially when we didn’t see Nick at the cemetery. I really thought they killed him off to pave the way for Arturo and Val.

Rocio admitted to pushing Graciela in front of the bus but it looks like they’ll never discover she pushed Mar. That disappointed me. Also, it’s nice to forgive but it looks like Nick is ready to have a relationship with the woman who shot him.

Paula getting her cheek slashed was a surprise. Not so surprising was her trying to turn the prisoners against each other, with her in charge!

Naming the baby after Luis was a sweet gesture. And Ofelia talking about the baby modeling diapers made me laugh.

Thanks Adriana, for the alternative endings and the Turkish version.

And again, thanks to Adriana and Kat for the great recapping job on this telenovela. I enjoyed the program and the recaps. I guess I like family shows best.

Las hijas / OT

Liz I've always liked the family shows the best. Looks like the 2 new ones are a lost kids theme ( karsu) and A.mar starts the 19th. Looks like it is a family story line.

HIJAS
Hi patio peeps!
I thought I’d check in here at the end to see what you all were saying. Thank you for the great recap, Kat! I backed up the ending to watch a few more times. I thought I’d missed something and Valeria had picked one galan but I see from your recap that no, she didn’t decide.

Have you all been enjoying this novela? I really did. The story was very engaging and the cast was wonderful. Guillermo Garcia Cantu just blew me away with his performance. I bet he had fun with it. When he was thought dead halfway through I was crushed that he wouldn’t be on screen anymore. But it was all a malentendido and hooray he was back! I also particularly enjoyed Alex Parea as Juan. It could have been a sappy part in the hands of another actor, but he brought great intensity to it. Oh, and I loved Emmanuel Palomares who did a great job playing a decent chap.

I’ve seen Oka Giner before and have been a fan. She was great here. For some reason I never noticed her cute figure, but we got to see it when she was modeling the boring new fashion line.

Speaking of bored – it really makes you wonder what the rich ladies are doing all day. They seemed to dress daily in tight-fitting cocktail dressed (with 3 inch heels of course) and then just sit on the couch doing … what? Staring into space? Also, walking around on marble floors in heels like that is dangerous – you could slip and break an ankle. And who wants to hear the clack clack clack when they walk? I was dying to see some nice fuzzy slippers, but no luck.

Adriana – thank you so much for telling us about the Turkish original. Really fascinating!

One thing that seemed lacking to me is that when Luis told his children that he’d married Mar to get them to wake up and live their own lives, he neglected to reproach them for treating her so horribly.

PAPAS

Liz, thank you very much for your kind words. Your comments have been instrumental in helping me understand so much.

Thank you so much for explaining that Emi has another tumor. The poor kid. I did hear them mention "Jason" so did think Tino and Aide were thinking of sending him to the US.

I don't understand why Chofis put herself in the position she did with Chano. She knew how he'd react and he didn't disappoint!

This was a glimmering gem: "Maybe Guzman wants to get rid of Fed and had El Calacas reverse the bomb. With one second to go I don’t know how Emi and Augusto can survive. But surely they will". What an ingenious idea! What a twist that would be...I can't wait to see what happens.

I so appreciate your explaining so many important details!

20 minutes into my recap my daughter calls and I lost everything I typed!!!! I'll just watch the entire show now and give highlights.

*Ines hires Leonardo to be her media manager in the campaign. Enrique is unhappy with it but can't do anything about it. Francisco agrees with Ines.
*Bertha discovers that Roberto and Luci are dating.
*Alex's dad thinks she should tell the police the truth. She can't have a relationship with Daniel with this hanging over them.
* Mariana lost a necklace. She is sure memo took it and is into drugs again.
*Natalia talks to the guy in prison for the Saldana hit and run. She asks us this your wife( the blonde they tailed). She then shows him the picture of her kissing a guy.
*Alex breaks up with Daniel.
*Pato invites memo to come work with him. German, who is there when the offer is made, thinks it's a bad idea.
*Natalia meets Manalo and the big boss of the fiscalia after her jail meeting. The guy practically confessed. I couldn't record it as they took my phone. They tell her to send Roberto a message as he is with his daughter ( and Luci. Pyjama party).
* Josephina is kissing her cuban lover when Bruno calls her from jail. He knows what she is up to. He is going to tell the truth.
*Omar visits Susy in the hospital. She asks about Adrien. Nothing, you called me in time. When I saw you on the floor I promised God if he spared you and the baby I would confess.
*German is hitting on Pato much to Memo's disgust and ire.
*Enrique apologizes to Karina for not defending when Francisco attacked her verbally. He needs her though ( to live).
*German is trying to put out the fire of Grenas planning to talk. Enrique is ignoring his calls ( he's with Karina) dirty old man Francisco has a buxom blonde on his lap.
*Bruno Grenas gets stabbed in the prison. I figured he was a dead man walking.

Hijas Finale

Gracias, amigas, for a job well done.

As for the ending... a total cop-out.

Valeria should have made her "neither of the above" decision long before this. Any other would have definitely made life much too awkward for all the families involved. A third, unrelated suitor would have been a decent option.

I was not surprised that Ofelia would think of putting Luisa in diaper ads. Mar needs to really put her foot down over this.

Nick was a saint through this but I can't see him visiting Rocio on a regular basis. She is where she needs to be; no question about it.

Paula getting slashed? Well-deserved.

Is Juan going to biz school? Did I miss anything about that?

Onward....

Thanks Kat, I enjoyed reading your highlights. I didn’t even recognize Natalia when she was talking to the guy in prison! Luckily when she was with Manalo and the big boss I realized who she was. I’ve seen the bib boss in several shows. I’ve always liked him.

Alex’s dad is great. He’s understanding but tells her the truth, it will never work with Daniel without telling him the truth. I just hope she doesn’t go back with Adrian.

I couldn’t believe Pato asked Memo to come work in the company. Enrique wouldn’t even let him work on his campaign. Pato always looks uncomfortable with Memo’s affections, which Memo seems to think are fine because he wants Pato and they’re cousins.

I guess Luciana is waking up to the truth about her family. I’m sure that must be hard for her.

Papas,
Hi there . I haven't been able to comment here at for a while with Mother's Day , gardening , and dealing with contractors to get my family room fixed after the water tank leaked big time .

Diane , thanks so much for your excellent recaps .Thanks to Kat for the extras . I have been reading all the recaps and comments.

Gee, did the writers think they had to have Fed putting a bomb in Emi's wheelchair ???? Really??? She wasn't evil enough with her evil cackling and overcome facial expressions ? Susan

Las Hijas

Mil gracias Kat and Adriana for bringing us all your fantastic recaps throughout this novela!!! Thank you for the finale kat and for all the alternates and other details Adriana! I don't know that I will miss the story but I will miss the patio!!!

I agree that the ending was a cop out! 100%. Anvil light, HEA light, No choice for Val.....blah blah blah.

I also agree that there was a lot to work with - great cast and plot line, they could have done a lot more with this if they had committed. Val and Nic should have ended up together! Art and Val should have split up a lot sooner than they did so the HEA between Val and Nic would make for less awkward dinners. Cami needed more actually emotional growth and maturity. It's a less popular take but I would have taken Mar and Juan ending up as coparents instead of a couple too.... I just didn't buy them as a love story.

PAPAS

Hi Susan, so glad you are back! You've been missed. Thank you for your always lovely words.

Water tank leak? Yikes, that does not sound good. Hope all is fixed or nearly there.

I totally agree that Fed planting the bomb was really over the top. Her glee as she excitedly waited for the explosion was just cringe.

Can't wait to see how Emi and Augusto get out of this mess!

Diana

Las Hijas

Kat, thank you for the fabulous recap of the finale and all the recaps you did.

So, Nick is Rocio's son. How did some of y'all know that before?

The most excitement for me in the finale was seeing Yadhira Carrillo. Is it a coincidence that her character was named Carolina Guillén? Her name in La Otra was Carlota Guillén. Also, Cordelia Portugal, as she had two roles. I'm looking forward to her new telenovela!

Back to Hijas. I'm so happy that Luís made it to the end, and his family was reunited. He was the best.

I may be the only one who is glad Val didn't end up with one of the brothers(or so it looked). I never was convinced of the depth of her feelings for either.

All in all, it was an enjoyable show. But wearing high, high heels on those marble floors..and in final stages of pregnancy..no way!

Thanks to the recappers and the patio! Beth S.

Papas # 79 part 1

Aide walks in a park somewhere. She gets an unknown call. What happened?

Firefighters are telling people to get out. We see a blown up wheelchair wheel spinning in flames.

Fede is back in her apartment pacing and gets a message. From Calacas. He wants his payment. She says she swears she will get it to him, but it's best if they don't communicate for at least a week.

Chano is hunting for Oliver. Fede calls him. Get over here to my apartment.

Rosalinda quits as lawyer. Good riddance (and they need to take her to court). Rudolph is going to go see Pipe. Clara luz isn't allowed still. Give him a kiss from me. She gets an urgent text from Lichita.

Aide arrives in the parking garage, the scene of the bomb explosion. She isn't allowed to pass. She says she needs to know, she has family. The child in the wheelchair is injured. An adult perished. She is afraid it is Tino. She looks under the sheet. Not Tino. Tino arrives wanting to know where is Emi. They find him at the hospital. Augusto saved my life he tells them. Where is he?

Flashback to Dameso and Tino. Dameso tells Tino aide died of live for you back then, but I had her first and have 2 consequences of that first time. Circe and Uli. They get into a fist fight. Tino wins.

Emi recalls what happened. While Augusto tried to get the plastic off the wheels he noticed the bomb. 17 seconds. He lifts Emi out of the chair. Places him on the ground then runs off with the chair to protect him. He shoves it as it explodes. Augusto gave his life for me. But as I tried to crawl away I was able to stand. Aide is happy to hear that.

Chano tells Fede he wants a paternity test. She says I lost the baby. I took some herbs to deal with it ( was she ever actually pregnant or just a rude with the Dr involved?). Thank goodness she isn't reproducing!.

Tino is home. Bertha comes out with a suitcase. She sees his face and is concerned. You have to be strong mom. Poor Bertha.

Lichita, Chofis and Clara Luz are at the police station denouncing Guzman.

All the kids comfort Bertha at home. Emi is there too so he must not have been hurt much at all. (This sucks. Why did they have to have him die. He could have pushed the chair away and only been injured.) Scarlett says he was like my grandpa. Tino says he will always be a hero for saving my son.

Chano apologizes to his family for his actions and swears he will change for their sake. He says the child of Fede won't be born. She said it was for the best to not have a child of sch a machismo as him. He especially apologizes to Chofis for having such a brute of a father. Chofis asks are you returning home. He says no, I lost my place here.

Guzman has a staff meeting. He says finally we are shutting down viewfam .. applause!!! They fake clap. He talks more business. Aide and Lichita's replacement enter. She wasn't able to keep aide out. Facundo gave her his shares. She's back...

Clara luz tells Tino Lichita turned Guzman in for abuse of a minor.

Checo and Chofis leave the table. Lichita tells Chano about Guzman abusing Chofis. She turned him in.

Oliver catches up with Chofis who is on her way to school. He apologizes for giving her an STD. She says they were both responsible. She forgives him

Aide is in the boardroom with Fede and Guzman. She has hired irreproachable lawyers to prove the fraud the 2 committed. She has proof

Chano wants to beat Guzman up. Lichita says you will turn him into the victim if you do.

Papas #79 part 2

Aide is alone with Fede she accused her if killing Augusto. Fede insults Tino and Emi. Aide grabs her and slaps her. You speak of Emi with respect. Fede calls her and idiot.

Emi and Scarlett pledge undying love for each other ,( this is a bit silly imo).

Checo tells Circe about what Guzman did to Chofis. She has a plan to bring him down.

Uli is at his therapist. He gets good advice from him that I won't go into.

Clara luz and Rudolph are back in court with a new lawyer (and judge). Clara says Guzman is under investigation for abuse of a minor. The proof arrives. Chofis and family. Guzman claims they are shaking him down for money. They owe the hospital money for the minor who has a. STD. Checo keeps holding Chano back. Circe is recording it all.

Fede is putting something in her purse. Dameso comes in. You need to make Guzman hire me. She laughs in his face. I helped you with the herbs now it's your turn to help me. He takes a picture of the herbal oils she has on her desk. I didn't understand all of this conversation.

Circe is recording Chofis and Guzman on live stream. Uli, Tino and aide watch on their phone. Guzman tries to justify his actions. "No Tiene algo malo". Uli recognizes the phrase and voice as his abuser. It was Guzman.

The judge suspends the hearing. Pipe will remain in the group home. Guzman insults Chofis and family.

Rosalinda comes up to Rudolph and Clara Luz in the hall of the court. He tells her to go. She says she has something to help them.

Fede advises Guzman to get out of town. He says we are in this together. You are no white dove. The bomb is mentioned I think. He sees the herb vials and wonders what they are. Strong herbs. I lost my baby because of them. He says you need to keep me out of jail. Id rather be dead than in jail.

Papas #79 part 3

Rosalinda has done a 180. This is just too bizarre, but she has been bizarre all along. The judge has given permission for Clara Luz to see Pipe. Her change of heart came about because of the family Clara Rudolph and Pipe are. Guzman can't go near him. Clara tells her she will have a family some day. Totally weird all around, but then Clara is a sweet soul.

Chano tries to woo Lichita as usual. She cuts him down but offers him her friendship forever.

Uli and his parents are off to turn Guzman in. Checo is with Circe. Aide gives him her blessing to take care of Circe and date her.

Tino, Uli and aide are outside the police station. Dameso calls Aide. He tells her Fede plans to kill Emi. She used an herb he gave her on Emi in the hospital. He doesn't have proof per se, but he took a photo of the herbs on her desk. Will you forgive me. Never she tells him. She doesn't make deals with delinquents.

Uli gives his declaration. Having 2 people that accuse Guzman will accelerate the investigation the officer tells them.

Fede talks to Guzman in his office. He has a syringe in his hand. He is going home. Not so far. The police, aide, etc are awaiting him outside his office. Fede leaves out a back door from his office

Chofis runs into Yeni. She gives her a PSA about STDc's use double protection. You were not a good friend to me giving me bad advice. We can't be friends anymore.

Guzman tells them my lawyer needs to look this over, but Federica is gone...all his accusers go after him. Lichita calls him a Marana parada which triggers his being called that in school when he was bullied. Guzman locks himself in his office. He injects himself. I guess he is dead, maybe.

Las Hijas

Beth, thanks for chiming in. I actually felt Val choosing neither was correct too, but the way they did it left much to be desired. I didn't recognize the model agent. I've only been watching for a little over 2 years so a lot of the actors and actresses are new to me. I'll have to keep an eye out for the show she is in.

PAPAS

Kat, you did masterful justice to tonight's events. Your all encompassing recap was wonderfully relayed with insight and humor. How fortunate we are to be the recipients of your superb dialogue translations.

I especially enjoyed your comment on Rosalinda: "This is just too bizarre, but she has been bizarre all along" which nailed her strange and inexplicable behavior.

Did Augusto really have to die? There are always one or two sacrificial lambs and I guess he drew the short straw. Still, it was a shame. He and Bertha were entitled to and deserved a happy ending.

At one point, Dam showed Fed either a picture or a video; I thought he was saying he had proof that she tried to kill Emi in the hospital but I'm not positive.

Uli finally realized the truth....

The noose is tightening around Guzman's neck who may or may not have breathed his last. He needed to be brought to justice and not have been allowed to take the coward's way out. Too bad slippery Fed managed to slither away but I guess we had to have a few villains left to spoil things on the grand finale (El Calacas still being on the loose).

Kat, thank you for all of your help, recapping and translating. Your voice is an important and enlightening one here on Caray, Caray.

Juegos #40 part 1

Roberto gets a call. Someone tried to kill Grenas. He needs to go. Luci will stay with Gabi.

Poor Enrique. His father in law and Germán have decided to kill another guy! He now has 3 deaths on his conscience. Though the first was an accident. He hopes there won't be any more. Bertha calls Francisco. (Maybe) Grenas is still alive. Probably not for long. Berta calls Juaco. Francisco wants to find out what reporter interviewed Grenas. Enrique says no more murders!

Susy named the baby Mario Omar tells his ex. Elena seems upset. Susy visits Mario. The nurse tells her love is the best medicine for preemies. Elena is mad about the name. Susy says Tobi liked the name Mario, he liked his poetry. She doesn't want her son named after his father. He is his own person. Elena is calling him her baby and is getting everything ready for him at her place. Susy says he is going home with her, not Elena.

Clara got footage of the fight between Adrian and Daniel to prove he didn't start it. When she finds out Alex broke up with him she tells him I told you so. That's the kind of girl she is.

Quirino Hernandez ( the big boss) is trying to trip Berta up as they discuss Grenas. She ignores repeated phone calls. Joachin has been making them. He is staking out the hospital. Victoria finds him there and asks what is he doing,? He leaves. A bunch of reporters are at the hospital too.

Memo keeps sidling up to Pato at work and making him uncomfortable.

Clara gets Mateo to reinstate Daniel at college. But the group project with Alex is over. They need new partners. Clara winks at Mateo as they leave.

Pow wo at Enrique's office. Berta tells them her infiltrator has been seen by a coworker so he couldn't kill Grenas. They discuss sending Grenas wife in. Natalia calls Roberto who is discussing things with Victoria. She says Grenas wife is at the hospital. Is this usual. Roberto tells her yes for humanitarian reasons it is done after he hand up he realizes she has probably been sent to kill him. She is in his room with a syringe. Grenas turns and looks at Josefina. The guard outside gets suspicious and enters the room. He is injected with the needle. I'm no sure what happened though. Lots of cops and reporters are at the hospital m. Natalia calls Roberto about it. He and Victoria are racing there with blue lights.
Berta gives a press conference. I'm not sure if she says Grenas died if his wounds, or that his wife sided in his escape and they killed a guard. Anyone able to clarify this for me?

Memo informs the family he is working for Pato.

PAPAS

Kat, my comment disappeared so I will try again.

Thank you for your masterful rendition of tonight's on the edge of your seat action. Your superb language skills have once again shown brightly.

"Rosalinda has done a 180. This is just too bizarre, but she has been bizarre all along" was exactly right and I totally concur!

Hopefully Uli's healing will now begin and soon, Emi will soon be at peace and able to live without fear.

I felt as you did that Augusto did not need to be killed off; he and Bertha were so close to a HEA! His death served no purpose.

Guzman deserved to be brought to justice and did not deserve the coward's way out. That is, if is indeed dead!

Well we still have Fed and El Calacas to darken the finale. Hopefully, her judgement will be quick, if not merciful. And Dam might not be gone for good either.

I hope some kind soul can find my comment and repost it. I would be very appreciative.

Kat, your recapping and helping provide so much information was wonderful. Thank you!

Juegos #40 part 2

So it looks like Grenas escaped. At the hostel Pato, Omar, Elena, Daniel and Chofis discuss his escape. Omar keeps making cryptic remarks. Pato and Elena are suspicious.

Memo assures Enrique he has nothing to do with Grenas disappearance.

Mariana tells her dad about memo attacking her, likely stealing her necklace and it seemed like he wanted to kiss Pato. Francisco thinks this is the worst aberration and threatens to send memo far away.

Looks like children's services have taken Grenas son from his apartment. I think his mother hasn't returned as she has helped Grenas escape.
Berta has Josefina and is torturing her for information. Grenas is at Memo's house. Memo is yelling for his mother about not ironing a shirt or something. He finds her. Grenas has a knife at her throat.

Papas

Thanks Kat, that was a great recap. I am hoping Guzman is not dead as he needs to face the music. And I hate that they killed off Augusto. He should have kept running with Emi. He and Bertha were going to have a second chance at love.

At least we get to see Fed get what’s coming to her tonight. And maybe learn what Calacas has to do with Guzman.

I’m not sure why Aide changed her mind about check but I’m glad she did. And Chano is something else. It took Fed telling him she didn’t want to have his baby because of his macho man actions and that he was a lousy father for him to realize exactly how he was!

I’m glad they had Chofis tell Yeni what a lousy friend she was.

Also good to know Rudolf, Clara Luz and Pipe would have a HEA. But Rosalinda’s big change was surprising!

Liz

PAPAS

Liz, I agree with you in that Guzman needs to pay for his crimes...

I thought Augusto would have pushed the cart and ran; I think his was a senseless death. Speaking of, Rosalinda's "change was surprising" is absolutely right. But again, her attitude change within hours made no sense! :)

Only a few hours till show time!

Thanks so much for the great recapping job. I was so confused in this episode, I didn’t understand a lot of the conversations and couldn’t even understand much from the actions. So your recap was a big help. But why did the wife stick the syringe in the guard. And when was she taken prisoner? Did I miss Grenas’ escape?

I loved the faces when Memo announced he was working for Pato! I guess they’re all thinking, “there goes our family business”.

I liked Elena but why would she think she would get to name the baby and have him live with her! I think she needs more counseling.

Juegos

Liz this show has a lot of mystery and confusion. Nothing is spelled out. Berta sent the wife to Grenas, perhaps to kill him, but it looks like she decided to try and free him instead. I have no idea how it went wrong or right. One thing I find though is future scenes sometimes clear things up, so hopefully tonight will answer some of those questions.

OT did anyone watch Karsu? I caught the first 5 or 10 minutes before Juegos. I'll keep recording it for a bit to see if anyone covers it.

My comments didn't post, there was "an error in publishing". So, here's a short version:

PAPAS #80 Gran Final Part 1

Previously: The aftermath of the bomb explosion is grim. Augusto brings Emi to safety but perishes in the attempt. Fed puts El Calacas’ payment off…

Dámaso taunts Tino that although Aidé was mad for him, it was he who was her first. His pretty face is pummeled as a result. Later, Dámaso tries to force Fed to make Guzmán hire him; she laughs in his face. Later, Dámaso makes a last-ditch effort to get back into Aidé’s good graces by tattling on Fed, but Aidé rejects him. Again.

Chano begins his (late) apology tour with his long-suffering family; he tells them his child with Fed will not be born. Prior, Fed had told him he was far too macho and a lousy father to boot. Lichita tells him that Guzmán abused Chofis and that she reported him. The entire family (sans Chuchito) shows up in court at the custody hearing, reporting Guzmán for abuse of a minor. Hearing the live stream, Uli not only recognizes a phrase Guzmán used when he attacked him, but his voice as well, naming him as his abuser. The judge decides Pipe will stay in the group home for now.

Lichita rebuffs Chano but they agree to be amigos forever. Later, Aidé finally accepts Checo…

Aidé interrupts Guzmán’s meeting, bearing Facundo’s shares… Later, she tells him she has proof of his fraud.

Rosalinda (who had quit earlier) makes an about face and decides to help Clara Luz and Rudolf. She arranges for Clara Luz to see Pipe because she’s finally seen the light about the great family they are. (This makes no sense, but hey, whatevs…)

Fed tells Guzmán to get outta town; he reminds her she is a guilty party. He implores her to keep him out of jail.

All of a sudden, a hoard of people – law enforcement and almost every character in the story converge on Guzmán’s office. Fed makes a hasty retreat. Guzmán is brandishing a large syringe, oozing with yellow liquid. He locks the doors but to no avail. He is caught like a rat in a trap and after being taunted by Lichita, triggering a painful memory of the prepa, he injects himself with the syringe. He appears to be deceased although appearances can be deceiving.

Night falls followed by daylight. Some time later, Clara Luz, Rudolf and Pipe are together; they hand Igor a folder; something is “number one”.

Checo and Lichita click their rings together, echoing their earlier made promise they will be “friends forever”. A sexy woman walks by and Chano turns around. What a hound dog! He and Lichita link arms and walk away.

Tino and Aidé have a conversation involving Fed, Guzmán and El Calacas; view fam and Maxiclick are also mentioned. They ask each other for a hug and a kiss and are happy to comply.

Bertha talks to Augusto; she murmurs “te Amo” softly as she leaves a lovely solitary white rose at his tomb.

Diana

PAPAS #80 Gran Final Part 2

There is a view fam and Maximax presentation with adults and a liberal sprinkling of children in the audience. Aidé looked lovely in a shocking pink dress. There are two characters on stage, a chicken and a mouse (Figaro). New positions are announced for Lichita, music for Clara Luz, Rudolph, musical director, Chano production, Igor, manager. Tino will be in charge of view fam. Tino graciously thanks his family. Pipe wants to call Scarlet.

Fer is on the phone with El Calacas; she is distraught. I couldn’t understand her here nor in her scene with Aidé.

Emi, Pipe, Chuchito are with Scarlet. The characters come over with a basket of lollipops. Naturally, the kids are excited and follow them.

Lichita and Lily come to retrieve the children, finding them gone. I’m sorry Lily says in tears, Lichita kindly tells her that it isn’t her fault. The search begins but the children are nowhere to be found. The parents’ faces mirror their fear. We see the children being led outside. Checo gets something on his phone; it is El Calacas directing his message to Tino and Checo. We see him murmuring as he tells someone to be quiet. We then saw the children bound and gagged. “Why” Aidé screams, face mirroring her pain.

El Calacas talks to the mouse who removes the head of his costume. It is Guzmán, stories of his death being greatly exaggerated. Meanwhile, Guzmán calls Fed, where are you. After he threatens her, Fed calls Aidé telling her El Calacas has the children. She wants Aidé to come there. Reluctantly, she agrees and leaves as Tino watches.

Guzmán is with the children live streaming. It is sad, pathetic and frightening. Even El Calacas seems disgusted; Guzmán pulls a gun out and holds it to his head. Guzmán says Fed is a traitor. He says something that seems to frighten El Calacas.

Aidé asks Fed where the children are. Fed wants her to sign papers but Aidé throws Fed’s pen at her face. I can’t understand Fed’s ranting but Aide tells her she is crazy. This is my family Aidé shouts trying to get some human like reaction from Fed. None is given.

El Calacas chloroforms a police officer and after he leaves the cab Tino approaches him. They start fighting.

Aidé ends up signing the papers. Fed brings up Guzmán but Aidé says he’s dead. Fed shows her proof he is alive and breathing. Aidé starts having pain and drops her phone. An incensed Fed sees she’s been recording their conversation and the two start fighting, making their way onto the balcony! On the street below, El Calacas pulls a gun, holding it on Tino. Fed moves precariously closer to the edge and then loses her balance, falling directly on top of El Calacas! Tino looks up, staring incredulously.

Clara Luz seems to know where the children might have been taken.

Oops- I meant Elena, not Susy.

PAPAS #80 Gran Final Part 3

Guzmán is pulling the blankets over the heads of each of the children. He stands there looking ominous.

Tino calls Chano and tells them El Calacas is dead. Meanwhile, Guzmán is livid that El Calacas isn’t answering. He starts searching the children and pulls out a phone and talks to Aidé. She is actually in the building, standing on the staircase landing one floor down. He warily descends the stairs as she tells him she wants the children! I am alive he taunts her. After injecting himself in the office he recalls being brought out on a stretcher. Ahhh, we then see El Calacas paying off the ambulance attendants. He harkens back and in an insane haze tells her she was the love of his life. And you did these atrocities she asks him. He goes on a crazy rant as she says “mi hijo Ulises”. He flashes back to putting on the wolf head the night of the party and then removing it. Uli is dancing as Guzmán stares at him across the room. Guzmán goes into a storage room and Uli happens to come in. Guzmán grabs the mask as an already inebriated Uli drinks from a flask. Aidé starts hitting him telling him he is sick. Guzmán pulls a gun as Tino, Chano and someone else ruses up. Aidé flies through the door where the children are and hears a gunshot.

Lichita comes running out as Guzmán and Tino fight. Guzmán makes a run for it but Uli with a large stick and the children are waiting around the corner. Uli hits Guzmán and Chofis gives him a kick for good measure. Aidé, Clara Luz and Lichita cradle their children in the room of horrors.

Aidé talks to Scarlet and Ponce gently explaining that Facundo made some grave mistakes and is in jail. Facundo calls and Aidé hands her the phone and he tearfully talks with his daughter.

Guzmán is in his cell when a visitor approaches. I’m not interested in seeing you Igor. Igor says something about his/their parents, if it is important, kindly fill in. Igor tells him he is a miserable person and Guzmán tells him to leave.

We next see the scales of justice at work. Guzmán is brought into a cell with several other swarthy looking men. Big, strong, tattooed and nasty. They start beating him as one prisoner lies on the bunk, smirking a bit. Dámaso!

We see that Fed is alive, but certainly not well. Sitting askew in a wheelchair, her face is battered, bruised and contorted seemingly reflecting a massive head injury. She is tortured and taunted by the other prisons and dumped on the cold floor. She tries to move her lips but there is no sound leading me to think she is no longer capable of speech.

Emi alights from the car and is on crutches! Tino talks about the US as Aidé and the other children surround him. Kisses and hugs for Emi. Looks like the family is home again…

Aidé tells Tino she is pregnant; loving kisses ensue.

There is a festive mood at Lichita and Chano’s (something about school for Chofis or Checo?) Lichita has a new title at work, something about International. Chuchito is a little angel clapping along with everyone else.

Clara Luz and Rudolf sit with Pipe and hug each other tightly.

Diana

PAPAS #80 Gran Final Part 4 of 4

In the last series of scenes, a celebration in the backyard is set up with decorated tables, and dozens of multicolored balloons. The children are manning the tables. Sweet Scarlet and Emi hold hands; Chofis and Checo are on stage; Chano and Lichita are in charge of beverages, arguing as usual!

We see a pregnant Aidé with pretty pearls strewn in her hair. “Te amo” she tells Tino. They look at the camera and put their hands out covering the lens.

Tino serenades Aide as everyone gathers near the stage (we see Gina with Uli). All the kids are taking selfies.

They are teasing the gender reveal, nino or nina? There are two boxes that when opened, both reveal multicolored balloons. (Do the two boxes signify twins?) Confetti is thrown as everyone celebrates. The only important thing is love. And as words flash on the screen, we see the story is not yet done but will continue.

The action was very tense and well done. Both Fed and Guzmán seemed to have fitting punishments meted out. If I missed anything important or misconstrued anything, kindly let me know. Your comments and insights were amazing and very much appreciated. I will be posting a thank you after this.

PAPAS

Thank you to our small but loyal patio who added so much to the story. Kat, your help in recapping and translating was immeasurable; your insight was laser sharp. Liz, you always added so many interesting and pivotal observations! Susan, your kind support was always so heartening. To Babachita, Anonymous and others who commented, thank you; your comments meant so much. Thank you Andy for helping to get the recaps off the ground.

I’ve helped to recap over a dozen TN’s, many with my amazing partner Rgv Chick, who supplied dialogue allowing me to expand on the emotional components and delicious details that I would not have been able to do otherwise. I was on several teams with other recappers and even managed to stumble through several TNs on my own. That said, I’ve never had as much difficulty trying to understand dialogue as I had with Papas. Time marches on; perhaps the 18 years I’ve been here have taken a bit of a toll. 😊…

I look forward to watching something else with all of you in the future. I am really looking forward to Jarifa’s (always marvelous) recapping of the last installment of Diana Salazar!

See you then…

Papas
Clara luz, Rudolph are officially Pipe's parents. Igor gave them the paperwork.

Chano and Lichita are officially divorced. That's why they removed their rings. So he can now look at other women and Lichita couldn't care less. BFF

Papas
Fede is distraught because of the accusations against her. Calacas advises her to get out of town. Not sure if he tells her to get passports ready in this scene or later.

Guzman is going to molest the children and maybe kill them. That's a bit much even for Calacas.

Fede wants aide to sign papers saying she didn't abuse Emi or do anything to the where that killed Augusto. There is no proof. She used gloves and likely disabled any security cameras.

Chloroforming the police made little sense to me. I would have thought they would have moved on. He obviously got both of them though as the driver was also incapacitated.

How improbable Fede falling directly on Calacas! Had to have some comedic relief it seems.

Pipe still has her ( or Rudolph's) phone and they have location sharing so that is how they know where the kids are. Calling the police about now would have been a good idea....

Papas

Aide called the phone Pipe had.

Dameso had given Guzman some potion that simulated death. Calacas had the antidote which he gave the ambulance crew along with money.

I think Uli got Guzman with a baseball bat. That was a good scene.

Igor told Guzman his dad didn't abandon him, his mother took him because Dad was abusing him. Makes one wonder if Igor was also abused but rose above it. He tells Guzman he never got past his adolescent hatred and did to Uli what was done to him by his father.

Yeah, Emi exits the clown car. 7 people, most adult size, do not fit in a 5 passenger car. They need to get a minivan or suburban as soon they will be 8. He is attending the big kids school.

Checo is studying to be a licenciado or lawyer or something. I think Chano is also going to school to advance his learning. Chofis is going to apply herself in school going forward.

I didn't take note of all the new titles of the main characters at maxiclik, but they all are resume fillers.

Papas
I also wondered if twins were once again in Aide's future. Fun fact, incidence of twins increases with age...

Papas

Diana, it was a pleasure. I've been at it 2 years and I agree, this was especially difficult to understand.
Chano's family with all their slang got on my nerves. I knew whenever they spoke it was going to be a mess. Since I didn't love their storyline I skipped trying to make sense of the vocab. 2 native Spanish speakers I'm friends with had no idea what Marana parada meant, and I still don't have a great feel for what it means. All I know is it was derogatory and bullying. This show really tried to push some PSA's ( anti bullying, safe sex, sexual abuse). In that respect it was not as family friendly as it could have been. Definitely pg 13 at least

The saddest part was not letting Augusto live. If he had only kept running with Emi the distance between the wheelchair and Emi would have been the same as him going back and running with it. Especially if he had shoved it hard after getting Emi out.

PAPAS

Kat, thank you for all your notes, insights and for helping to tie all the loose ends up with a big bow!

If some of this was hard for you to understand (with your superb language skills), then no wonder it was impossible for me at times! :)

I didn't realize Lichita and Chano were divorced! Now the ring clicking makes perfect sense :)

"Guzman is going to molest the children and maybe kill them. That's a bit much even for Calacas". From the look on his face, I surmised it might be something like that, thank you for confirming it.

Fed wanting to have Aide sign a statement absolving her from guilt was insane...As if!

So Dam gave Guzman a potion but the antidote was close at hand. Well done.

Initially, I wrote Uli had a baseball bat but I changed it because it looked too long but in either event, it worked!

Grim but important explanation about Guzman's father abusing him. The sins of the father.

I totally agree this was not child friendly, nor was it for the faint of heart.

I made a comment earlier that Augusto's death was senseless. There always seems to be at least one sacrificial lamb for which there is no plausible explanation.

Karsu #1

I watched episode 1 tonight. It has English subtitles since I watched a day later. Spectrum quit on me before I could finish the first and catch the second episode.

Karsu certainly has an unsupportive husband. Initially I thought maybe he was the father in law at the birth scene. Feliz ( Karsu's mother) was absolutely crazy for leaving the child on the bus asleep while she went to the bathroom. I didn't think I wanted to watch a kidnapped child story, but this did draw me in, and the kidnapper is a grieving mother so it is less disturbing than some crime mob stealing him, I think.

So if nobody recaps, at least talking about it can be fun. Susan, babachita and any others who watch it, I agree it could be a nice patio. The time slot is better than Juegos, though I sometimes get kicked off at 9 because too many family members are watching YouTube TV at that time.

Papas

This was challenging, especially with all the fast-spoken slang, but thanks to our excellent recappers, we were able to follow the story. It seemed sort of light at first with the peppy music and peppy young people. But there was darkness underneath. The effects of bullying, etc, were still felt after all these years. The awful abuse and threatened abuse that even shocked El Calacas made it a harrowing tale. The anvils were appropriate, especially Fed in her wheelchair.

I’m thinking they are having twins! It will be fun to watch the sequel, but I think Guzman is still alive, and that is scary. Interesting he and Dam are in the same reclusorio.

Thank you again for the recaps and comments that made this an enjoyable telenovela.

Babachita

Papas

Diana & Kat, and everyone else too, Congratulations and thank you!

I have not been able to keep up with all the episodes though I have recorded them and will watch the most recent ones leisurely when I get some free time.

I have depended solely on the recaps and comments lately, and I'm not totally lost though a lot has changed and much has caught me by surprise.

I'm not really sure what I think of this TN, though that might be because I haven't watched it regularly, but I think I can safely say that it is not my favorite.

In any event, my great thanks to Diana and Kat, and to everyone who commented. I hope I will have more time in the future, with another novela.

Andy

PAPAS

Thank you Babachita!

"The awful abuse and threatened abuse that even shocked El Calacas made it a harrowing tale. The anvils were appropriate"... perfectly sums up the evil, overtly prevalent throughout.

There were small sparks of joy but too few...

I am shocked Guzman is still alive and wonder if he will be part of the sequel which supposedly begins five years after. I hope not...

Twins seem to have the votes so fingers crossed :)

Diana

PAPAS

Hi Andy, so good to see your post.

I thought the premise of the story held great promise. While drama is always part of the formula, this turned deeply dark and disturbing, shutting out the light and love it should have emitted.

The Tino/Aide relationship was a high point mostly due to the amazing chemistry between the actors who were a real life couple many years ago. We saw Lichita and Chano's relationship fracture and Bertha and Augusto's come to a devastating end. Not much to sustain the hope that true love is alive and well and triumphs in the end.

Hope to see you around the blog Andy... :)

Diana

Papas

Thanks so much Diana, that was a great recapping job. And thanks Kat, for filling in details. You make a great team. I thought the ending was better than most telenovelas. The two evil ones got what they deserved. And I was happy to see Damaso was also arrested and jailed. So he didn’t get away with the things he did. I really thought he would just fade away and not get punished. That comment he made to Tino, “I had her first”, was just so juvenile! He and Chano never really grew up! Facundo has learned his lesson and will become a great dad to Scarlett. And Fed apparently is silenced, so no more lies!

I did laugh at Fed falling on Calacas. And Calacas was an angel compared to Fed and Guzman. This show did have a lot of happy family moments but had its dark side. I saw the “to be continued” at the end but didn’t realize they were literally going to continue the show. I guess it must have been really popular. I would watch a sequel.

I did not realize Tino and Aide had been together in real life in the past. That’s interesting. You wouldn’t think the chemistry would still be there if they had broken up!

Thanks again, Diane and Kat. Great job!

PAPAS

Liz, thank you for your kind words. You were such an instrumental part of this for all you contributed. I am so appreciative.

Yes, Dam and Chano "never really grew up". So true! I grimaced at Dam being in a cell with those hardened criminals yet his pretty boy face had nary a scratch. I wonder how he managed that?

Fed falling on Calacas was funny and fitting!

I wish there had been more happy scenes, especially with the children. I did have hope though that Emi might likely be able to walk; I would think that would be part of the follow up sequel.

Liz, I hope you are continuing to heal...thanks again.

Diana

Papas

Thanks Diana, I’m getting stronger everyday. I can’t bend or lift so was forced to hire someone to clean the house. I can’t bend get used to that part of recovery! If all goes well I have 3 more weeks of restrictions. Then I can get back to doing things. Right now I can walk, but can’t walk my dog, so one of my grandsons comes with me as I feel guilty walking and leaving the dog at home!

I am leery about this new telenovela. I watched the Turkish one that was two seasons. I didn’t like the ending. And I watched a kidnapping one where they didn’t find the boy for 18 years! I think that was Even the Rich Cry. The one starting next week looks like a good one. The background looks so bright! And I’ve seen both leads before and liked them. I really need to write down the names of the telenovelas I’ve watched!

Papas

Liz, sounds like you had back or abdominal surgery. I'm surprised walking the dog is off the table though. I need a new hip. Should have done it 2 years ago. I may break down and get it done this coming winter after harvest season.

After watching half of the second season of mi marido Tiene mas familia, I don't have a good feeling for sequels.

Back to papas though. I never figured out Igor and his switch to the good side. I guess finding out he was behind tormenting the children and abusing Uli was just too much for him. Though I don't recall exactly what was the straw that tipped his allegiance.

I started a list of the Telenovelas I watched at one point. I need to update it. And rate them....

Papas

Kat, I had a ureter and kidney removed due to a malignant tumor in the ureter. I can’t pick up after the dog and afraid she’ll pull me too. She’s well trained until she sees a squirrel, leaf or another dog! I’ve always admired people that donate a kidney but now I’m in awe of them!

PAPAS

Liz, you certainly underwent major surgery; I am so happy you are on the mend and you seem to be making significant progress!! I wish you all the best as you continue your recovery.

Glad you have family to help you, you certainly don't want your fur child to feel neglected!

Karsu isn't for me; I find the Turkish novelas far too depressing but it seems like there is a lot of interest in this...

Yes, A.mar, donde el amor teje sus redes looks good...Pedro Moreno is a favorite of mine and there are a lot of familiar faces. Laura Carmine and Victor Gonzalez are the villains so I'm sure there will be a lot of angst and agony.

Diana

PAPAS

Kat, I never really understood the rationale for Igor's transformation (I think you nailed the reason) but was glad it occurred.

Funny you mentioned making a list of the TNs you've watched. I keep telling myself I should make a list of those I've recapped although some were daytime and not on the sidebar.

I'm surprised you didn't like the sequel to mi marido Tiene mas familia! I loved all of it; Daniel Arenas just broke my heart.

Diana

OT

Diana, Daniel Arenas was a real sweetie in that one. He is a very good actor and we do not see enough of him. I loved all the seasons and had great fun recapping Mi marido with a long gone recapper from CA. As a matter of fact about a year and a half ago, I watched all of the seasons again and enjoyed it as much as I did the first time through.

A.MAR has piqued my interest, too.

OT

Mi marido mas had some characters I just couldn't jive with Susana's goofy husband whose name I've forgotten, the Italian cousin, I didn't love the dueling dowagers either. I didn't finish it so perhaps it got better. Dani's husband, Gabriel , dying and being a loser as a provider made no sense as his father had forgiven in the end of the first episode. The continuity was just weird so I couldn't get beyond the weirdness of it.

I started my list but I hopefully also have it written at home because there was one I liked that I'm not finding on any of the channels or apps I watch. It was in LA where a mom died leaving her best friend as guardian of her two children. It was a comedy. La suerte de Loli perhaps? It just came back to me.

OT

Yikes. Kat you mentioned several characters in Mi marido I can't even recall. My poor memory!

Jarifa, as much as I enjoyed Mi marido, I could not have stayed with it if not for your splendid recaps. Daniel doesn't seem to have done anything recently; I miss him! He was THE perfect galan here.

Juegos #41

Highlights only as I watched last night.

As predicted, the escape of Grenas is explained. His wife couldn't kill him. She gives him the hypodermic needle and tells him to hit her and knock her out. How Berta got control of her isn't shown, but after Grenas injected the guard and escaped I'm guessing she was notified.

He goes to Mariana's house and holds her at knife point and makes Memo duct tape his hands feet and mouth, though the mouth was around his neck so that wasn't a success. She gets smacked in the mouth at one point by Grenas. Grenas starts bleeding pretty heavily so memo tells him there is a first aid kit in his room under the bed. Mariana goes to retrieve it. A gun is also there. She threatens Grenas with it but when she pulled the trigger ( without cocking it) it doesn't fire so he takes it from her. He has her call Enrique to come to her house. When they return downstairs with Grenas holding the gun Memo is furiously sawing at his hands with the outside corner of the hallway wall. He fights with Grenas over the gun, gets it and with eyes bulging he shoots him in the back of the head. Clean up on aisle 5...enrique calls German to send people to get rid of the body.Mariana starts wretching and goes outside. Meanwhile Roberto is outside the house because he has a feeling about something. He hears her vomiting. She goes inside and tells them them Roberto is there. She fobs Roberto off with I hit my mouth while cooking or some lame reason. Enrique calls Karina to get Roberto away somehow. Emergency with Gaby, whatever. He falls for it but when he gets to Karina's he realizes what she has done.

In other news Adrian is all set to confess, he has even called the CID or whatever it's called. Ines makes him hang up.

Omar is very sweet to Susy. She is upset she can't bring Mario home yet. (I can almost see these two as a future couple if Omar remains free.)

Joachin has given Luci some recreated files from the Capital case, doctored by Berta and company. Natalia and Luci realize these aren't the real deal.

PAPAS

Thank you so much for the great recap!

This has been kind of fun. I always enjoy Adriadne Diaz. I must say I wasn’t such a big fan of Tino – I thought Jose Ron overplayed the sweetie-sweetie aspect, so that sometimes it made my teeth hurt. Also, he did some lying (por los hijos!) and that scene at the beginning when he went through Aide’s room to look at her stuff was creepy, I thought. I was glad when partway through he got called out on his deceptions. So not the perfect hero in my mind.

I’m glad to hear I wasn’t the only one who laughed when Fed fell on Caracas. I was feeling kinda guilty!

I thought it was great they took on some serious and important topics – sexual abuse of children, unprotected sex, STDs, bullying, social pressure to have sex before a teen is ready.

Oh, and for those of you who are thinking of keeping a list of telenovelas you’ve watched – I have! The end result is that I wonder why, after watching all those, I don’t speak fluently. Oh well, I read the captions fluently now at least!!

KARSU

So many interesting things about this!

First off, I’m not ready to see the actress playing Karsu yet. I think she’s fabulous but she’s still Bahar in my mind.

Boy, is that husband a pill. Why did she even marry him?

The characters in this show seem to be well off – they have beautiful big homes and hired help. I realized that when that’s the case in a Mexican telenovela you can bet the topic is going to be class. A well-off person will fall in love with a poor person for sure and the whole plot will turn around that. It doesn’t look like it’s going to be an issue here. We’ll see!

Juegos

Thanks Kat, that was great, short but not so sweet. And you got all the important stuff. I almost felt sorry for Enrique. He’s in over his head. Did he know his father-in-law was a mafia type?

He’s also going to have to put up with Memo as Memo seems to think he did Enrique a big favor. And he was ready to shoot Roberto too. I wonder if he’s killed before!

It’s funny you mentioned Susy and Omar as a future couple. In the earlier episodes I thought they were a couple.

I wonder if Adrian would have gone through with his call if his mother hadn’t interrupted. I hope the kid doesn’t kill himself. Memo is the only one not losing sleep over Toby’s death.

Liz

JUEGOS

Thanks, Kat. I finally caught up. Great shot of Enrique and Mariana mirrored in Greñas’ blood. Memo is a real creep. Enrique is finding out what it means to pay the piper when you get involved with killers.

KARSU

Yes. Now that I'm back after about five years. This one brings back the Turkish tellies of yore. My husband really likes these & he's Mexican. This one is kinda hard to get into as the mother seems to be an ad for deep therapy as well as a hefty drug regime. I mean I don't even know how these two even had kids. He's about as appealing as horrible blind date Satan fixed you up with. Seriously did he get her from a Elon Musk AI site and personality was extra?

The premise would be life shattering but geez..why were these people so miserable to start out?
Thanks
Lost in a bus station fever dream
