A.MAR #44 Parte 1 Notes from the Couch . . .

I thought the cello solo that is played here in dramatic scenes sounded familiar. It was also used in "Vencer el desamor".

GABRIEL GOES ROUND THE BEND
Brisa is with Gabriel at his place when Sergio's lawyer arrives to discuss his adoption case. The lawyer first asks Gabriel to sign some papers for his loan with Sergio. She then answers questions Gabriel has on the adoption process Brisa cannot shut up. The lawyer informs him that he is going to ahve to prove that he is a good father and that Iker would not be better off living with another family. The judge is strict but fair. That being said he has a hard road ahead Gabriel wonders how much Iker's opinion counts. He would like only 5 minutes to talk to his son to help the situation. The lawyer is aware fo the situation says they cannot force Iker to talk to him. They cannot allow emotions to rule and they need to be disciplined.

The lawyer uses his bathroom and in the meantime, Brisa goes through her briefcase and finds out who Iker is living with and the address. Gabriel and she go to the house and Iker is playing alone in the yard. Before he can call out to him, Francisca, the mother, comes out to get Iker to come in to eat. After she sends him in, she sees Gabriel trying to hide and tells him that he knows better than to show up there. He expresses his desperation in having been separated from his child. She says she will have to report this transgression to the social worker. He begs her not to report him.

When he arrives home, still with Brisa, Marina has set out a nice meal for Gabriel and her. She is surprised to see them together. He says that he saw Iker from afar but that Francisca saw him. Marina concludes that that idea, of course!!, must have been Brisa's. She asks him how cannot he understand that trying to visit Iker could make him lose in court. Marina tells Brisa to leave. Brisa tells him not to trust Marina. Gabriel doesn't want to hear anything Marina has to say. She is certain that Brisa is capable of dragging him into any of her stupidities like this one. He responds saying that she has NO idea of what it is like to have your child snatched away because she is not a mother. She reminds him that she knows she is a mother. That goes right over his head because he thinks that she was the one who made the anonymous call that got him into this mess to begin with. He thinks he should have grabbed his son and left town like he wanted to do before talking to HER. Marina thinks it all sounds like Brisa but is glad she saw his true feelings and leaves. She goes to the beach where she bemoans the fact that she still doesn't know who she is and relives being in the ocean

A.MAR Part 2

SERGIO
Sergio gets applause and adoration from the fishermen and their families in the town after he announces the bonuses. Azul hangs on him enjoying it all. He is a super hero!!! Fabián tells Estrella that he thinks that Sergio has ulterior motives. She agrees.

Estrella confronts Sergio on the bonuses wondering what he is going to get from giving them out. She knows with him there is always another angle he benefits from. He answers it is all about empathy. Why should he not help the fishermen if he can? He insists he is not the same lout he was ten years ago. He is a better person now and wants to be that for Azul. Estrella remarks that he always thought he could solve everything with money. Sergio doesn't understand why she cannot accept that he has changed. She warns him that if he hurts Azul, he will never see her again. Sergio explains that he is going to prove he has changed by his actions. He was drifting after his novia and their child died and Azul has helped him to center himself. Because of that, he wants to give Azul his last name. Estrella asks if he is serious because that will mean confronting his father who has been a difficult and cruel man. Sergio insists he is going to do what he needs to and asks her to consider who he is now and not who he was ten years ago. He kisses Azul's photo and leaves.

Sergio's plan to ruin Fabián is well underway. HIs lawyer had Gabriel sign forms for what was a supposed loan for him to pursue the adoption of Iker. She tells Sergio that Gabriel was so desperate that he never read the forms which will put Fabián's business in jeopardy. Sergio smiles with satisfaction.

YAZMIN
Yazmín and Oliver are kissing in a corner of the restaurant. he still want to talk to her father. She still wants to enjoy their hidden love. Well, it is not hidden much longer because Fabián sees them. He tells his daughter that he doesn't want her with Oliver. Oliver tries to stick up for himself but Fabián writes him off because of how careless he was taking Yazmín on the boat. Yazmín tells her father that he can say what he wants but she is not going to stop going out with Oliver. it is her concern, not his.

He tells Estrella about the incident and she can only smile. She knows that no boy is ever going to be good enough for his daughter. She understands that he thinks Oliver put his daughter in danger. She reminds him that they have all made stupid decisions when they were young. He has to respect Yazmín's decision. All Fabián can say is that Oliver better not make his daughter cry.

PERLA
Perla is still looking like she is in pain anytime she is with Pascual who is all over her. Oliver tells her how he loves Yazmín and how he feels butterflies anytime he is with her. Perla has to admit she feels loved and protected by Pascual but no butterflies but she is ready to settle for that. Oliver would hate to see a life with no butterflies and decides he has something she needs to know.

A.MAR

Jarifa, thank you for your excellent recap. A frustrating night that you captured with your usual flair and wisdom.

This episode was rife with scenes where galan #2 deserved a good slap and a sharply uttered “snap out of it.”

“Gabriel doesn't want to hear anything Marina has to say…She reminds him that she knows she is a mother. That goes right over his head because he thinks that she was the one who made the anonymous call that got him into this mess to begin with”. Your translating this important conversation is so appreciated! OMG. I could hardly believe what I was reading! How on earth could Gabriel sadly and inexplicably chose to believe evil forked tongued Brisa’s lies rather than the wise words and warning of the woman who loves him? Brisa’s dogged determination has put Gabriel’s custody pursuit in grave jeopardy as well as parting him from sensible, logical Marina. All that as well as affixing his John Hancock to Sergio’s papers that he didn’t even bother to read. What a huge disappointment he has turned out to be!

I was struggling with trying to figure out why Yaz thought Fabian wouldn’t like Oliver. I had forgotten about the little boating excursion without gas or radio. Oops…

Sergio wants to give Azul his last name. How touching. He is moving in for the kill and mercifully, Estrella is one step ahead of him and isn’t giving an inch. I loved Meche, hand on her hip in the background watching Sergio with an expression of amusement and distaste.

I thought the bar scene was kind of cute. Matilde arm around Valentin with a smitten Pascual next to Perla smiling away. That ecstasy was in sharp contrast to Valentin and Perla, looking like they were in agony as a concerned Oliver (wearing an inexplicable stingray t-shirt) took it all in. 😊

I'll have to listen for the cello...(there is nothing that escapes your eagle eye!) Thank you oh so much Jarifa.

Karsu

This was a fun episode! Well, up until the last bit.

I agreed with Filiz that they should wait to tell Irmak. Also – Wednesday I wondered why Adnan confessed. He could have just stayed silent no problem.

Reha was in full bloom, telling Kande what an important man he was and saying she was putting on a scene. She needed to understand that his behavior was normal for a fabulous important businessman. And then his scene with Adnan where he gloated that bringing Kande along to Istanbul was a great move to get Karsu back. How could Karsu resist a prize like him after all! Look at her giving herself such a huge glow-up just to get him back! Poor Adnan trying to get through to him to not shout so much when he was around Karsu. That fell on deaf ears.

I loved the performance by the Attila actor when he was in the bookstore. I suspected their meeting wouldn’t work – Karsu would stand him up or the rival mafiosi would find him and he wouldn’t be there.

So there’s Karsu putting on way too much lipstick. All that overdone red! She has lovely full lips, she doesn’t need to paint outside her lip line. And why did she dress up just to stand him up? Meantime, Attila looked terrific in black.

Hassan’s trick to get Filiz to come to his house was great fun. But Filiz! Don’t get in a car with a stranger, for heaven’s sake. Hassan could have just driven down the road to get Omer and then driven them all to get gas. I did wonder how they were supposedly far from anywhere while in the background a car was parked in what seemed to be a driveway. Must be a house there!

And speaking of houses, what was Hassan doing in his home? I thought he was in hiding from the rival mafioso. Well, anyway, it was fun to watch the two of them, and for him to end up singing a song.

Not so fun was the very end. I’m not enjoying Karsu in her present mean incarnation. Atilla quickly created a good cover story – I gotta hand it to him.

Karsu

I agree, Maggie, that the new Karsu is unsettling. The writers have tweaked her persona here, showing that she is capable of doing vindictive things such as setting up Atilla. I loved him at the bookstore and had some hope that he’d finally get a chance to explain. But once she put on all that lipstick, I realized this wasn’t going to turn out well. He was so happy getting ready. I thought Karsu might just not show up. But, instead, this was full-blown revenge with Lale included. Atilla and Lale deserved it, but it seemed unnecessarily cruel. It also reminded me that I don’t see how this relationship has any chance to survive.

On the positive side, watching Hasan and Filiz is such fun! Daughter of Nimrod indeed! I loved him singing! This pairing is going to be entertaining and that will offset my sadness about Atilla-Karsu.

Reha was indeed in full bloom. I can’t figure out how to describe my current feelings about Reha. He is becoming a familiar bad actor, and yet I sometimes think he might eventually turn out ok. But, his flaws are really annoying. Yet, he annoys me less than at the beginning. Have I become numb to his sins or is he slowly improving?

All these actors are so good!

Babachita

Karsu

Maggie, I noticed the car down the road also where they ran out of gas. I have to agree Filiz should not have gotten in the car with a stranger. Hasan calling himself an idiot for his responses to Filiz when she invited him for coffee sometime and Filiz also feeling foolish and saying this 'dating' business is hard at her age was so realistic.. I feel for her, especially after what Adnan did to her.
I guess the guy who made her drop her cherry blossoms didn't make as big an impression on her as she made on him.

Reha I've always had an ambiguous feeling about Reha. I'm thinking Karsu was pretty much a zombie the three years Deniz was missing, and when he was found she focused on reconnecting with him. Reha I'm sure got very little affection from her. I understood his affair with Hande, honestly. He loves his kids (in small doses. My husband was very similar and even now after a few hours of grandkids time he's ready to run away, lol.) of course he also suffers from the grass is greener syndrome. All faults but not of the ready to kill someone variety. That was nearly evident though when he hired the thugs to beat up Deniz adopted dad, which ultimately led to his death. Did you notice Deniz never asks about him anymore. Atilla is now the recipient of that affection. I also don't see how Atilla and Karsu will have a future. She'd be better off with lighthearted Merk.

Babachita, these actors are very good! With a somewhat credible storyline too. I keep hoping Hasan really isn't a mafiosa and he's undercover or something. The death of Deniz adopted dad is still the big problem. Maybe he's actually still alive somewhere!

A.MAR

I need to brush up on my sea life...Oliver was sporting a t shirt with a jellyfish, not a stingray.

The things you think about in the middle of the night when sleep eludes you! :)

Diana

A.MAR

I somehow missed the shirt and will have to take a look. ; )

A.Mar

Thanks Jarifa, I enjoyed your recap. It’s hard to believe Gabriel believes what Brisa tells him, and does another foolish thing. And he accuses Marina just because Brisa tells him. I hope when he learns the truth he’s stuck with Brisa. And friendless because he betrayed Fabian.

Oliver did look like he felt bad when Fabian caught them. I think he wants to do things the right way. Meanwhile Fabian does seem to have a problem being calm and reasonable.

I hope Estrella continues to stay strong against Sergio. I don’t think I’d let Azul change her name, but I bet Azul will want it.

Liz

Karsu

I enjoyed the interaction with Hassan and Filiz. What fun this is going to be!

I kind of like what Karsu did to Atilla. He marries her sister-in-law and tells her he loves her and mentions their night together. She then says she’s willing to listen and asks him to get a hotel room. That reaction from her really shocked me. But if you think of what’s going on in her life. Her husband cheated on her, her sister’s husband cheated, and Atilla made love and then married Lale. So why would she want to go to a hotel with him! What a great way to get even!

I don’t think I will ever like Reha. He thinks he’s so great and is really using Hande to make Karsu jealous! And he thinks it’s working. Plus he pays no money toward his kids. It bothers me that Adnan is going to invest in his company.

This has gone from a depressing drama to a fun watch!

Liz

Amanecer Last has got to go down as one of the most grotesque in TN history. Brutal on many, many levels. What is wrong with the producers and writers? Have they no decency, especially for the old, and slightly insane elderly to display such ‘treatment’ ? I had to turn off while they strapped her to the bed. Viewerville is correct to largely boycott this production.

Amanecer

Thanks for the warning anonymous. I'll quit watching it from my recordings . The Dizis are much better if you want to catch Bahar on Telemundo. It's just 2 weeks into it.

A.MAR #45 Parte 1 Notes from the Couch . . . Vacation Version

Thank you for the comments on #44. It was a very busy day and I did not have time to respond.

Not much new action tonight. For the most part, everyone just reinforced their positions and that was enough.

The novela has reached the halfway point tonight. It has gone by really quickly.

Sergio
The episode opens with Sergio having a discussion with his lawyer. She tells him she feels no remorse for helping him cover up Beatriz's death. She asks him if he has nightmares about what he did to her. He thinks back when he pushed Beatriz and answers no, as a matter of fact he sleeps like an angel.
She says they are so much the same in that way, she doesn't regret anything either. On his way to see his father, he throws Beatriz's photo in the trash. Juanjo quickly rescues it only for the lawyer to tell him that as long as he doesn't betray her, he will not tell Sergio that Beatriz's baby was not his but was Juanjo's.

Sergio gives his father the good news. He has a ten year old daughter. He also tells his father how he was so irresponsible that he never knew that Estrella was pregnant. He has already taken a paternity test and is ready to formally give her his last name. His father likes that. Sergio also wants to get Estrella back. He wants them to be the happy family they always should have been. His father always wanted that for him and his offer to hand over the company when he has formed his own nuclear family. Sergio thanks his father telling him he wants him to know that he isn't doing it out of personal interest but he is doing it out of love. His father believes him and hugs him.

What is Sergio Hiding?
Estrella talks to Fabián about Sergio wanting to give Azul his last name. It is a big step but he has been good with Azul. Azul will want his name and she cannot stand in her way. Fabián agrees with her but suggests that she put it off for a while and see what Sergio might be up to. They agree that they have no idea what Sergio and his company are doing in their area. Fabián thinks that people can change but it is very difficult to change one's essence.

Sergio stops by Fabián's house to inform him that he is going to start to hand out the benefit checks tomorrow and would like Fabián to be there at his side as head of the union. Fabián says he can use the union facility but he will not be there. Sergio says eh just wanted to offer him the opportunity. Sergio questions the offer and his action and wants to know why he is doing it at all. Sergio explains that helping people is his passion and these people need what he has to give them. Fabián laughs wondering if he is going to go all over the countryside offering people help with the red tide. Sergio answers no. He is only doing it in this town because of Azul. . . . and the WOMAN he is still in love with. He adds that the hard feeling between them have to end because it isn't good for Azul. He is going to be spending a good amount of time in the area so they should be getting along in a civilized manner. Valentín asks how it is civilized if he is trying to steal Estrella from him.

A.MAR Part 2

Sergio makes it clear he is not there to steal anyone from anyone. Estrella is free to make her own decisions. That being said, he is going to fight for her until he wins her heart again. He is doing it for Azul and because he and Estrella have a passionate but unfinished story that deserves a happy ending. Fabián says he is wasting his time because it is clear that Estrella feels nothing for him. Sergio tells Fabián to calm down and not get upset. He doesn't want any more problems with him. Fabián suggests that he not go looking for them and that he respect his relationship with Estrella. Sergio answers that if it makes him feel any better, the most important thing for him is Azul and her stability. He adds that they are both adults and can coexist. he extends his hand and asks if they have a truce.Valentín refuses to shake his hand and says from what he told him, this is not a truce but an act of war. Sergio thinks it is a shame he is taking it this way. Anyway, he is thankful that he is allowing him to use the union facility to pass out the bonus checks.

After, he leaves. Gonzalo comes out. He heard it all and tells his son he is right. That was a declaration of war from a coward who couldn't come out and just say it to his face. Fabián is worried about what intentions Sergio has with gifting all of that money to the fishermen. Gonzalo says only time will tell and unfortunately it will take some time. Fabián thinks that in spite of being as smart as he is, Sergio will make a mistake sooner or later. He will have to be very alert in order to prove who really Sergio is.

Meche and Brisa are all excited about getting a bonus check. Estrella would rather they not take the money since they really do not need it but cannot convince them to turn it down.

Perla + Valentín - Pascual=?
After one too many starts and stops, Perla and Valentín FINALLY admit that they both love each other. They also agree they cannot do anything about it because of not wanting to hurt PASCUAL.

Gabriel Falls Apart
Marina finds Brisa playing house at Gabriel's and tells her to get out of HER house and says the usual ignorant things to her. Marina tells her that she needs to stop helping Gabriel break the law because the courts could deny his adoption application. That would put Iker at risk. Brisa insists she is the only one who cares about Gabriel. As soon as Marina leaves, Brisa leaves a message for Gabriel that Marina was there threatening her.

Later, Gabriel is home alone drunk and sitting on the floor getting emotional over one of Iker's aka "his little buccaneer's" toy sword. He finally passes out. Marina comes by and gets him into bed and takes care of him in his sorry state. She tells him she said she would be there through good times and bad.
She holds him as he suffers.

The next morning Brisa shows up surprised to see Marina at Gabriel's. She asks if Marina spent the night with Gabriel. Marina reminds her that SHE is Gabriel's partner and that no matter what Brisa does, she is no competition for her.

Oliver
Oliver goes to see Fabián to talk about dating Yazmín. Fabián opens the door, sees Oliver and closes it right in his face. (that was actually funny) Gonzalo convinces him to give the kid a chance. Oliver does his best to sell himself as a novio for Yazmín. Fabián admits that he is a good kid but not good for his daughter. He is better at getting drunk with Nemesio. The long and short of it is that Oliver put Yazmín's life in danger. There is nothing else to consider. Then he adds that his daughter is going to be leaving town to go to med school and he barely finished high school if he did. Oliver wants to take that challenge. He wants to rpove Fabián wrong. One day he will be the son-in-law Fabián dreamed of. Fabián closes the door for good now. He and Gonzalo have to admit that the kid has guts. They both laugh.

A.MAR

Jarifa, you've expertly guided us through the first half of this very enjoyable novela, and I am extremely grateful. Another marvelous recap.

'"After one too many starts and stops, Perla and Valentín FINALLY admit that they both love each other. They also agree they cannot do anything about it because of not wanting to hurt PASCUAL". Rather than ripping the bandaid off right away by telling him, they will suffer in silence until such time as they inevitably get caught. I did like Perla's joy and happiness; she was simply radiant.

I'm afraid Gabriel's galan status is going to be removed, at least for the moment. Rolling around on the floor, nursing his self inflicted misery was pathetic. Even worse was Brisa's continued persecution of Marina and refusal to just butt out and fade into the background.

I got such a kick out of Fabian's scene with Oliver! Gonzalo sitting quietly in the background, had me smiling at his amused reactions to their "discussion". Fabian is a strict but caring father, as he should be. I have every confidence Oliver will live up to the promises he made and look forward to seeing his and Yaz's relationship grow and flourish.

Sergio's motivations for his surprising "generosity" to the fisherfolk remain opaque for the moment although his determination to try and "recapture" Estrella's love by any means necessary are painfully transparent. His lawyer is quite the heartless, manipulative beyotch isn't she?

Jarifa, thank you for all of your time and talent. As always, you clarified so very much and did so with your always fine flair.

Diana

Karsu

That was fun, Mert telling Karsu how Atilla must be feeling and Karsu asking him how he could know considering he’d just met him a few times. Still don’t like her overdone lipstick. It doesn’t look good. Too harsh.

Has Lale ever met Cedvet before? She’s not startled by him being in the apartment when she comes home from the hotel, nor is she surprised when he calls Attila mi jefe. And I thought Filiz had evicted Attila – yet he’s made no move to start packing up.

I was surprised Lale told him maybe she married him por amor. There’s a big difference between being interested in someone and amor.

Irmak didn’t react that strongly to hearing about Adnan’s infidelity. Karsu threw a chair through a window and Filiz went berserk, but Irmak just looks shocked and cries. I agreed with Filiz that telling her could endanger the baby, and I wondered if Karsu’s telling her was part of Karsu’s let-the-world-burn attitude. But Irmak told her it was the right thing to do. I’m curious what revenge she has planned.

I gotta feel sorry for Kande with Reha telling the kids they can have rooms in their place. First she’s supposed to be happy just fiddling her thumbs and sitting around with his mother, and now she’s supposed to take care of his kids. I know he’s gawdawful, but he’s so over the top with his selfishness and ego that I find him funny. I think the writers had a great time writing his part and the actor is having a blast playing him. Later he asks Lale how to deflect Kande’s marriage talk and I loved how Lale told him to just blow smoke like he usually does.

Now we know that Attila was planning to leave the mafia life and got delayed. I wonder what he plans to say to Hassan. I really wonder about Reha wanting to do business with Hassan. Blithely stepping into the orbit of the mafia? Bad idea.

Karsu

Did anyone else get the impression a scene was cut. Cevdet bringing Lale home (I actually thought he brought her to Hassan's house, but that would mean Cevdet knows that Hassan is free. Well he does know but Hassan doesn't know that he knows.)

There hasn't been that much time passed since Filiz told Atilla to leave. I think he negotiated a couple of weeks from her. I guess he thought his big reveal to Karsu would make the move moot. I have to wonder what purpose the cousin being brought into the mix plays.

Was it Hassan pumping Reha for information on where Karsu's bookstore was. Just ask anyone on the street, it's the store nobody buys books from made me laugh.

When Cevdet was talking to Atilla in the car he started spouting all this fish information; his newest book obsession. I think he got it from an encyclopedia. All I can think is all this information is at everyone's fingertips now with smart phones and tablets. Cevdet could have been reading arcane facts all along.

OT
Hello, Caray peep!

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing.
I'm currently in vacation, visiting family in Romania, "enjoying" 105°F. Eastern Europe is scorching hot.
My daughters will spend the rest of summer here with their grandparents, as they do every summer while I go back home for work.

I only watched the first couple of episodes of Amanecer, but it's really not for me.
Same goes for A.Mar and I never watch Turkish stories anymore, so unfortunately there is not much I can comment on these days.
I do watch Monteverde on the Televisa site and I find it surprisingly engaging, even if I never cared much for Gabriel Soto or Africa Zavala. They somehow work, I'm a sucker for a "forbiden love" story. Anyone know if Univision plans to air it soon?

How about the rest of you? What are you doing this summer?

OT
Adriana, I'm with you on the 2 TNs you gave a shot. Do you watch the Telemundo shows at all? Velvet is running there and I feel is better than the others. I rarely watched Turkish shows but I'm really enjoying Karsu and Bahar ( on Telemundo).

The heat is non stop this summer. We are also getting no rain so my gardens are suffering. I hope your girls enjoy their time with the grandparents. Memories being made that they will never forget, I'm sure.

OT

Adriana, how nice to see your post!

I hope you are enjoying your vacation even though it sounds a bit "warm". :) What a wonderful experience your daughters are having!

The cruelty in Amanecer was too much for me and I bailed after a few episodes. I am thoroughly enjoying A.MAR which is the only thing I am watching. Not a fan of the Turkish shows.

My memory is bad but didn't you, Doris and I recap Soltero con hijos? We had so much fun. I love Gabe Soto and I can't wait for Monteverde to air! I'm hoping it might replace A.MAR which has 45 more episodes to go.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and hope to "see" you here soon...

Diana

Adriana,

Hey amiga! Good to hear from you! 105 sounds....fun.... lol. It's trying to get to 100 here and I want to hide! I hope your girls enjoy their summer!

I think Susan and I are the only ones watching Amanecer. I have been tempted to bail more than once but I'm sticking it out for now. It's weird to the nth degree but I'm actually curious to know whether they can write this in any way that has the love story between the two leads develop in a way I find believable or compelling - because right now I just can't see it! And if it does end up being good it will have to be VERY good so I'm sticking around to find out.

Monteverde sounds interesting. I am not the biggest Gabe fan but I'm not opposed either, neutral. There's a new novela out there somewhere, can't think of the name of it at the moment, that Kimberly dos Ramos was the protag of which recently ended on Televisa, I believe. A certain Christian de la Campa was in that one, so as you can imagine I'm hoping to see it pop into the Uni lineup soon! :)

Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

OT

Darcy, it was you who helped recap Soltero - apologies...

I also want to give credit to Rgv Chick, my partner on this and many other TNs.

Diana

OT
“Me Atrevo a Amarte” is the TN Darcy mentioned. I watched some of it when in Mexico. Great cast, set on a ranch, Salvador Mejia.

OT
Kat, I take my daughters to stay with their grandparents every summer and they enjoy it a lot. And we enjoy the break, also. Hahaha.

Susan , I didn't recap Soltero, I'm not much of a comédy fan. Monteverde does have its comedy angles and plenty of ridiculous scenes, but they are not overdone. The setup is rather interesting and the premise is fresh, I hope we get to enjoy it together soon.

Darcy, I watched bits and pièces of Me atrevo a amarte and it started out good, but I lost interest after a while. I won't reveal any spoilers but Kimberly Dos Ramos has lost so much weight that she's become hard to watch. De la Campa is still worthy, though. Hihihi

When you say you plan to stick with Amanecer to see if they manage to write a belivebale love story I remember how we kept watching Pasion de Gavilanes 2, hoping that Franco showing up will make it all worth the trouble. Remember how that turned up... 😀

Amanecer
This one is just so...Crazy? I remember watching minas de pasion and wondering why the hell was I still watching. It's the same with this one only it's worse. I can't imagine how they'll turn this into something believable. Leonel is just insufferable. How the hell is that pueblo going to survive if Leonel, from what I understood, is going to make them pay even more taxes or something? Wasn't thistelenovela supposed to be like the old ones or something? Were galanes that crazy back then? I remember watching Gatasalvaje as a kid and there the male protag was worse than useless and it had the whole 'marry a poor girl to spite my sister' thing going on. This one reminds me of that tn.

OT
Adriana, can you send some of that heat our way? I'm from a Baltic country and here you basically have to catch every moment when it's hot enough to swim-waterlily obviously can't live without water. Btw do your daughters speak Romanian? I'm fascinated by kids who grow up multilingual because I didn't have this chance.
I'm watching Monte verde too and quite like it. The famale lead was an antagonist in Papas por conveniencia so it's a bit strange to see her in this role. But I think comedy suits her. I couldn't imagine her doing one of those 'sweet, innocent protagonist' roles. Doesn't she usually play evil characters?
I watched me atrevo a amarte and didn't like it much. It was all so silly and pointless somehow. It was interesting to see Favela as a vindictive, scheming woman, though. And Ivora's voice is always such a nice addition. It's interesting that sometimes they really manage to create a good show with an interesting plot. Other times I start thinking if they were on drugs or something because the show seems just bizarre.

OT

Adriana, good point about Pasion 2...hehe, you may very well be right. I suppose time will tell. I'm not sure I regret waiting for Franco though all things considered....do I wish I could have FF'd to his arrival? Maybe, hehe I still think the idea of going from abject hatred to falling in love could be a really interesting story to watch IF they manage to pull it off - so I'm willing to stick around (for now) and see if they manage to pull it off.

I could have done without the weird witch doctor and the psychotic sister though...not to mention the poor crazy lady whomever she ends up being.

OT

Darcy, all I remember from Pasion 2 aside from Fraaaancooo, was the crazy plots. I think the only thing missing was alien abduction.
I do love a good hate to love story but Colunga does nothing for me these days, so I'll pass.

Waterlily, nothing I can do about the weather but it's like this every summer. Maybe plan some vacation time next year? :)
My daughters were both born in France and they go to school here, so this is their mother tongue, I think you could say.
But they both understand Romanian perfectly and my youngest (6yo) speaks it well when she is alone with her grandparents. My oldest (almost 10) has fought against speaking it for a long time, stubborness I think, but now that she sees her sister chat with people she's starting to be more comfortable. It's cute to see the 6 year-old who is barely learning her ABC's teach the 10 year-old how to pronounce certain words. And they learn English at school, my oldest has a very decent teacher so she is doing pretty good.
In their teens they will have to start watching novelas to learn Spanish I think :))
I liked Favela also and I think the show had all the ingrédients to be a decent story but something was lacking. I don't know what it was, though, I really wanted to like it. With Monteverde it was almost instant, I noticed that in récent years I prefer lighter stories.

A.MAR

Diana, I probably have mentioned this before but I really like the pacing of the plots Things move at a good.neither too fast or too slow, pace.

"I'm afraid Gabriel's galan status is going to be removed, at least for the moment. Rolling around on the floor, nursing his self inflicted misery was pathetic. Even worse was Brisa's continued persecution of Marina and refusal to just butt out and fade into the background."

Gabriel makes me want to scream at this point. I like a sensitive galán but not one who is incapacitated by on the floor. Yuck! On another note, WHY he and Fabián are still even talking to their exes is beyond me.

Talking about Adriana the lawyer: "His lawyer is quite the heartless, manipulative beyotch isn't she?? She sure is!

Can't wait for tonight!

OT
Adriana, great to hear from you and that things are going well! Thanks for the info on Monteverde. I will have to give it a look when it appears. I like Gabriel Soto. The novela pickings have been slim for those of us who do not like Turkish novelas. That being said, I am enjoying A.mar which for me has proven to be the perfect summer novela.

A.MAR #46 Parte 1 Notes from the Couch

The Key to Marina's Past?
Brisa is still ragging on Gabriel about him choosing "the shipwrecked woman" (What an insult! She never refers to Marina by name. She only calls her "la náufraga". He finally gets her to leave as she assures him that Marina will be why he never gets Iker back.

Gabriel is all apologetic with Marina but she reminds him that she said she would never leave him BUT she will not take his hurtful language. He admits that he took his frustration out on her and it wasn't right. She will always tell him when she doesn't agree with something but he needs to be less impulsive. She loves him.

Adriana, Sergio's lawyer is meeting with him after delivering the bonuxs checks to him. She would love to go to Europe for a couple of months with her husband. She loves him so much but he really doesn't know what she is involved in. She wonders what would happen if Estrella knew the truth that his hands were stained with Beatriz's blood. He doesn't think it is fair that she knows the worst thing he ever did but he doesh't know what the worst thing that she ever did. She says it is better that way. In her mind she thinks back to her and Marina (Antonia) on a yacht. She picks up a pipe and hits Marina so hard on the back of her head she falls overboard and floats face down.

Later she will show up at Gabriel's to tell him what a mistake he made trying to see Iker. Francisca, his foster mother reported him for not following the social worker's directions. He moans that he had to see his son to make sure he was all right. She answers that it might have a detrimental effect on the adoption process. Marina arrives on the scene. Adriana can only stare at her and Gabriel notices. Is she okay? She assures him that she is. Gabriel introduces Marina whose real name is Antonia. Adriana insists that they tell her all about "Marina" because she is involved with Iker. Marina explains how Gabriel rescued her from the sea and since she has no memory of anything, she decided on a new name. She has given up any hope of ever finding out who she really is. Marina says that Adriana looks familiar. Adriana says she is sure they have never met.

Adriana disappears into Gabriel's bathroom and vents her hatred for Marina. She has to run cool wanter on her pulse points to try to calm herself down.

A.MAR Parte 2

Sergio Plays Benefactor
Estrella sees Sergio and Adriana together. She accuses him of getting her evicted so she would have to go to him for help. Adriana was there to supervise the eviction. Sergio says he wasn't behind that. Adriana also works for Porfirio.
He explains that she is his lawyer who is helping Gabriel adopt Iker Azul's friend. Estrella looks surprised. He doesn't understand why she still has doubts about him. He smiles smugly.

Oliver is mopping the floor getting everything ready for the bonus check distribution and to impress Fabián. He even gets hi his coffee just like he likes it. He seems to be very impressed with Sergio. Fabián tells him "All that glitters isn't gold." Sergio arrives at Fabian's union office. Fabián is not interested in any check from him. Neither is Estrella.

Sergio wants to give Azul his last name and Estrella agrees to discuss it with her so they can decide together. Of course Azul wants her father's name and for it to come first in her hyphenated last name as any father's surname would.
They go to meet Sergio at the restaurant to tell Sergio about the decision. Erika tells Estrella that if she asked her for her opinion, she thinks that letting Azul have her father's name is the right thing to do. Estrella tells her she didn't ask for her opinion. Sergio arrives and they give him the good news. Sergio orders a bottle of wine so they can toast.

(Earlier, Fabián tries to get information from Porfirio about what Sergio's plans in the area are. Porfirio tells him he is interested in investing a large amount of money but doesn't tell him in what industry. He also find out that Sergio is asking about the price of property in the area.)

Fabián arrives and breaks up the celebration by announcing to Estrella that they need to talk now. Before she allows her daughter to be formally recognized by Sergio, she needs to know who he really is!!

Perla: a Day Late and a Dollar Short
As the Fates would play it, Perla tells Valentín that she is all ready to break up with Pascual because they are so much in love. She marches over to his house but he beats her to the punch with news of his own. His mother has come for a surpise visit. She came by bus. His mother describes the ride as being worse that being a sinner during lent. She is so happy that her son found somebody like Perla. She grabs Perla's hand and asks her to promise that she will never break her son Pascual's heart.

Meche has a Very Good Day
Meche gets her bonus check and tries ro give it to Estrella who refuses it. She adn Azul doesn't need it. She tells her mother to use it on herself. It is finally her turn to do something nice for herself and not the family. Meche goes on a shopping spree and agrees to a supper date with Gonzalo.

Another sterling recap Jarifa!

Thank you for "la náufraga". Brisa's bitter scorn is getting impossible to watch. Gabriel needs to be much more forceful and telll her to get out of their lives.

Adriana is cruel, icy cold and calculating. Another small piece of Marina's past revealed but it leads to a multitude of questions. The most pressing is on who's boat did the attempted murder occur? I'm fairly certain Adriana didn't knock Marina into the ocean if rampant jealousy wasn't one of or THE factor! She claims to love her husband but she doesn't seem to have a kind or loving bone in her body does she?

Now that Adriana knows Marina has risen from the dead (much to her chagrin), will that impede her defense of Gabriel? Interesting that Marina felt Adriana "looked familiar".

"Of course Azul wants her father's name". Exactly? Would we have expected anything else?? Estrella was on the right track about Adriana; too bad Sergio was able to (falsely) explain it. Fabian's timing is off. Again. Huge sigh...Sergio's insinuating himself in every aspect of Estrella's life continues.

I liked Gonzalo getting wardrobe advice from Fabian; their father/son dynamic works well.

Perla just cannot get a break can she? I loved "His mother describes the ride as being worse that being a sinner during lent" which had me smiling away. In truth, having Pascual's mama show up would probably would have stopped me dead in my tracks as well!

Jarifa, thank you for explaining all of the dialog and scenes so clearly and precisely.

Diana

Karsu

There were so many fun scenes this time. Filiz telling her sister about Hasan. Hasan beading and planning his date with Filiz, Dilaver telling him Filiz is classy. The pastry as punishment scene. Reha trying to pitch his baby clothes business to Hasan. Filiz having a closet fit before her date.

And there was the sweet scene where Hasan quotes poetry to Filiz, and tells her he read a lot when there were days when it seemed like the time would never pass. Little does she know!

In the scene where Attila kidnaps Karsu, we can see why her shop doesn’t get much business. It’s not in a good location – tucked away where there doesn’t seem to be much foot traffic. At least there wasn’t any when Attila threw her over his shoulder.

In the limo he begs her to just listen to his explanation. I want to hear it! But when we get to the hotel it’s nighttime and it seems he hasn’t explained yet. What did they talk about the whole way? Anyway, he tells her all about his father – apparently! I was dying to hear his explanation but no, he’s all done with that story by the time the cameras roll again. Drat!

Well, Cedvet was sweet and fun throughout. Love him!

Karsu

I was also amazed they could carry Karsu off in broad daylight. But these are pros, so they must know how to do it without being caught. I am glad she knows it all, but it is a sad business.

Interesting that Reha gave Hasan useful info about Filiz and Adnan. Hasan showed empathy for what Filiz went through. He really seems taken with her. It’s hard for me to reconcile the beadmaking foodie poet with the threatening monster father he has been to Atilla.

Thanks Maggie!

Karsu
I was surprised Atilla said that his dad would have killed her and the kids. I just thought he would make sure that Atilla wouldn't be able to be with her by some means. Taking away his money, removing him from the house next to her, or possibly relocating Karsu. I think this mafiosa is more bark than bite and relies on intimidation as his means of manipulation. I still hope Hasan isn't really a monster and is undercover.

Cevdet has pretty much blown his cover. His half hearted. All for help made me laugh. Of course I would think Karsu realizes that the job was a set up.

I was also disappointed we didn't get Atilla telling his story to Karsu.

Emil will never eat another puff pastry in his life!

Lale spouting her thanks to Karsu for gifting her with the "honeymoon" night and Karsu sticking to her story was pretty fun. I was glad she toned down the lipstick.

OT Adriana,
Bonjour , Cher Adriana, it was so nice to see your comments . I am still watching " Amancer" due to my loyalty to my first telenovio Fernando and my newer one Daniel Elbittar .
My water tank leaked at the end of March , so I have been dealing with workers and contractors in and out of my house since then .
I hope that you and I can enjoy a show together soon . Best regards to you and your family. Susan

OT.
Hope Rgvchic is ok as we are posting this on last week's page.

OT

She is, she just posted a new heading...she has been very busy (as always) :)

A.MAR

All I can say is that serious dramas are going to dial up really quickly. We have 44 episodes to suffer through to a happy final.

Thanks, Diana, for the great comments.

"Gabriel needs to be much more forceful and tell her (Brisa) to get out of their lives." I still do not understand why he is still talking to her let alone letting her in to his home.

"I'm fairly certain Adriana didn't knock Marina into the ocean if rampant jealousy wasn't one of or THE factor!" Very interesting possibility. I hadn't thought that far.

"Huge sigh...Sergio's insinuating himself in every aspect of Estrella's life continues." Oh, yeah. Just wait, he will be spending more and more time with Azul trying to encompass Estrella. Estrella better be smart.

"Perla just cannot get a break can she?" The arrival of mamá was a good twist but Perla didn't have to be in this situation to begin with if she had acknowledged that she was not attracted to Pascual. Now how long will it take her to get up the courage to do what must be done no matter what his mother feels? Of course, nobody can count on Valentín to do the right thing as the women in this story cannot count on most of the males. I think Gpnzalo si the only tried and true one without major deficiencies. They are a pretty sorry group; even Fabián with his quick temper and being willing to settle perceived insults with his fists. For me the only thing going for him in the galán dept. is that he isn't dirty and sweaty looking like Gabriel. The greasy stringy hair has to go!

Can't wait until tonight.
