A.MAR #49 Parte 1 Notes from the Couch . . .

Fabián on Thinner and Thinner Ice with Estrella
Fabián finally lets Sergio go. Azul is traumatized by the incident. She goes home and disappears into her room. She tells her mother that she is afraid of Fabián. She accuses her mother of choosing Fabián over her. If her mother put her first, she would get rid of Fabián and go back to her father so she could have a real family. Sergio tells Estrella to put a stop to Fabián or he will.

Fabián and Estrella discuss the situation over and over. Fabián is sure that Sergio is hiding something that it is going to end up hurting his town and his people. Estrella admits that he might be but Sergio has no proof. Also, there is NO room for violence no matter what. Fabián doesn't seem to be able to control that. It is almost as if he only sees the violence as a problem since Azul witnessed it. He sees what he is doing just trying to protect his people and his town. (uh, and you have to be violent to do that???) Estrella ends up BEGGING him not to make her choose between her daughter and him.

Fabián talks to his father abut his predicament. He is sure that Sergio has bought off Sergio. He also tells him how he lost control with Sergio and how Estrella and Azul saw it all. His father admits that they both live up to their last name BRAVO considering the hot blood they both have. Fabián was particularly bothered by Sergio telling him he wold do what he wanted including winning back Estrella because HE COULD. He admits that the more investigating he does of Sergio the farther he is being driven from Estrella.

Erika Has a Plan!
Erika assures Sergio that after tonight, he will not have to worry about Fabián again. What she needs from him is a document from his company that "appears" to have some juicy information that Fabián could be interested in. It doesn't have to be anything really important. Sergio quickly finds just what she needs.

Gabriel Risks It ALL
Iker is not happy to see his father at the restaurant because he knows that his father initiating contact with him could cause his father's problems with the court. (Funny that Brisa does't seem to get that!!) that if his father has contact with him. Gabriel cries and apologizes to his son for not being honest to him. A very sad Gabriel's reactions are lukewarm at best towards his father. He does allow him to hug him in the end. Suddenly, they are notified that Francesca is on the way. Gabriel disappears. Iker lies to Francesca and says he came to the restaurant because he wanted some flan and to talk to his friend Teresita. Francisca believes him and they leave.

Adriana talks to Gabriel and Iker and is not happy to hear that Brisa removed Iker from the party to the restaurant in order to see him. If the court were to find out, that would ruin his adoption petition. Marina is not happy that he is still accepting help from Brisa. She tells Erika how Brisa had put up posters of her all over the city without her permission to see if she could find out who Marina was. Adriana asks Gabriel if he feels that he can trust Brisa to give testimony at the hearing. After a pause, he says yes. Marina doesn't like that answer.

Gabriel talks to Brisa making sure she will not mention the meeting he had with Iker before the hearing. She tells him ONE MORE TIME that she loves him. He tells her ONE MORE TIME that he is with Marina and they can only be friends.

Adriana sees one of Brisa's old posters of Marina taped on a lamp post in the city. Her response is: DAMN IT!

A.MAR Parte 2

Javier Boxes Yazmín In--or--PSA On Taking Intimate Photos
Yazmín is expecting Oliver when she hears somebody at her door but it turns out to be Javier. He has decided that he still wants a relationship with her. She tells him she is not interested. She is off the pills he used to bring her. He doesn't feel the same. He forces her to kiss him. If she doesn't go along with having a relationship with him, he will send Oliver one of the videos he has with them being intimate so he knows that she traded sex for her pills. She had no idea he was recording her. She says she will see him arrested. He tells her to go ahead. He will be out in two to three years but after he releases the videos on the internet, her reputation will be PERMANENTLY ruined.

NO EXIT Any Time Soon
Pascual understands that Perla wants to break up. He says if it because of him rushing the wedding he . . . He never gets to finish his sentence when his mother pretends to have a strong pain in her kidneys. She sends Pascual off to the drugstore to get her some pain meds. She tells Perla that she came to to see Pascual because she is dying and asks Perla not to break up with him until she is dead and gone. She also asks her not to tell Pascual that she is dying. Perla doesn't know what to say but is out of there as soon as Pascual returns. with the pain meds. (His mother pretends to take them but hides them on her chair) Perla tells Pascual that they can talk later.

Matilde agrees to not arrest Valentín when he explains that he wants to break up because he is a man who likes his freedom. She admits she can be a little intense and decides that she will give him a bit longer leash. To his horror, as far as she is concerned, they are back together.

Perla and Valentín get together and share what happened to each of them. Valentín is even more upset because he finds out that his "mamá" Dolores is at death's door. Perla doubts that Dolores is really ill. Valentín doesn't believe she would lie. Neither Perla nor Valentín can see a way out of their current relationships right now.

Parte 1
Correction: Fabián is sure Sergio has bought off Porfirio.

A.MAR

Jarifa, your well written recap was enlightening and thoroughly engrossing. You captured all of tonight's numbing events perfectly.

Fraught with frustration, Estrella and Fabian's and Marina and Gabriel's relationships seem to be teetering on the edge and are precarious at best. They are hanging by threads, ready to be snipped by Sergio and Brisa.

Fabian "sees what he is doing just trying to protect his people and his town" but cannot seem to temper down the violence as you wisely noted. Sergio is playing him masterfully, widening a wedge between Fabian and Estrella, using his own child who by his own admission doesn't even like! Meanwhile, Erika is slithering in the background moving in for the kill. Gabriel continues to let Brisa insinuate herself in his life making custody seem less likely daily. Neither seem to be able to help themselves despite Estrella's and Marina's ad nauseam warnings.

"Iker lies to Francesca and says he came to the restaurant because he wanted some flan and to talk to his friend Teresita". Expecting the worst, I was pleasantly surprised that such a simple but believable lie worked like a charm. A reprieve for the moment.

Javier having video(s) of Yazmin shouldn't have been a shock but it was; a very sad revelation. He is such a creep.

I was wondering what could possibly happen to hinder Perla and Pascual's breakup that would be at all credible. Mama Dolores' histronics had me smiling away in spite of myself. At least Perla has her suspicions but things do seem at a (hopefully temporary) halt, for now.

Just excellent Jarifa, thank you so much...

Diana

Karsu

Still wondering what Irmak has planned. We didn’t get any hints. There’s Adnan with his stubble. I know it’s the fashion for men lately, but on gray guys I think it makes them look like they’re letting themselves go.

It was fun to see Tia Turkan and then the girls razz Filiz about her romance with Hasan. Reha was a complete hoot first telling Kande how she needed to smile and make the house warm and homey and not want to talk about things all the time, and then later telling Lale poor him trapped between Kande wanting to get married and then Atila in love with Karsu. And of course not listening to Lale’s problems at all. I love how his part is written and how the actor plays him. It’s a juicy, funny part.

And then there was Cedvet saying he was scared of Karsu, and here’s him mafia! I liked when he was blathering on to the customer about the content of a book he had no idea about.

The local cats obviously don’t get in the house because Filiz has completed the jigsaw, no pieces missing.

I still don’t get why Dilaver is a traitor. Anybody know?

Lale is saying she doesn’t want a divorce. This whole storyline just doesn’t ring true. Before the whole Hassan threat thing, she had told Reha oh no no no when he said she should marry Atila (for $$ and connections). She wanted to date him, she thought he was hot, but hold your horses. She was scared by Hasan and the whole mafia thing, so she went along with the marriage. The following story development that she loves him seems totally out of character, not to mention ridiculous as he’s been so rude to her, and now not wanting a divorce, though she’s not holding out for money? It seems like a very contrived storyline just to make things dramatic and bring her into conflict with Karsu. I’m unhappy with the writers.

Now Atila is opening a café in the low-traffic shopping area. Obviously he’s not planning on making money off it.

Oh and we found Mert is indeed not Hasan’s son. I wonder why he called him Mert and not Genghis Khan.

Karsu

Maggie, I guess Atilla felt betrayed because Dilaver has loyalty to Hasan. But, that doesn’t seem inappropriate to me as Hasan is the head honcho. Atilla wanted complete loyalty to him, even over his father. Probably the Kadir situation was the last straw for Atilla as Dilaver hid the actual situation. IIRC, Atilla was going to surprise Hasan that Atilla had access to Kadir, when Hasan was way ahead of him.

I still like Dilaver and think he has been navigating a touchy situation that might be fatal to him if he makes a wrong move.

I completely missed the reveal about Mert. I just went back to watch it again, and sure enough, Mert is not Hasan’s, but he raised him as if he was. Now I wonder about his parentage.

I can’t wait to see what Irmak is cooking up!

Babachita

Karsu

Just a final thought about Mert’s possible parentage. It triggered in me a memory of the situation in La Familia where the mafia killed a couple, but the wife of one of the mafiosi rescued their infant and raised him as a son.

Babachita

Karsu

Türkan asking Filiz whens the wedding. Filiz saying what should we drink, these limos always have something. This show makes me laugh. If Kadir was actually killed at least it's not a graphic Mafia show. He was just a bit worse for wear.

.I think it's a case of the lady doth protest too much on Lale's marriage. I didn't remember her being against it. She's had the hots for Atilla since the day she met him. I loved her telling Reha he was the reason she hates men. He is a sorry excuse for one.

1000 piece puzzle sure was finished quickly in the clubhouse office. We know who is actually doing the work around there.

I liked how Filiz and Türkan told Ipek to actually tell Omer she isn't interested instead of hoping he'll get the idea by her not addressing it; and that accepting gifts from him is inappropriate. She is trying, she wanted to pay for the movie tickets. He just ran off before she could.

So now we root for Adnan's business to fail, Reha's also. The sisters will all be counting on Filiz to keep a roof over there heads.

I loved how Karsu chewed Cevdet out. I need this job, it's close to home, kids school and the hours are good. But if a better job comes up I'm out of here. The cafe may draw foot traffic to the area. Add an antique store, art or jewelry gallery and a market and Atilla could be on to something for his post Mafia life. Also a good lunch and dinner place. Are kebab places the meat and 3 of Turkey (meat and 3s were a new one to me when we moved to the south. If anyone needs it explained I'll go into detail).

A.MAR

Please forgive the typos. Editing is always a challenge for me in this format.

Hey, we had the worst air quality in the world yesterday here is Chicagoland. I didn't notice it yesterday but my home smells likes Canadian smoke this morning. Nice and cool overnight but I guess it is time for air-conditioning again. Okay . . .

Diana,
"I was wondering what could possibly happen to hinder Perla and Pascual's breakup that would be at all credible. Mama Dolores' histrionics had me smiling away in spite of myself." That is how I felt. It was well done. They did a good job with Matilde, too, with her not setting Valentín free but giving him a bit more leash. Maybe she can get a promotion . . . in another town!

As for Yazmín, I agree that the videos did not surprise me. What to do? With women STILL suffering from rigid patriarchal sexual norms (got that off my chest) , unfortunately, Javier was right with his assessment of the damage that could be done to Yazmín's future. Maybe he and his cellphone can get washed away by a rogue wave or something. If her father or grandfather were to find out, he could be making a one way trip to Davey Jones' locker. If only . . .

According to the montage of weekly scenes Univision has decided to show at the end of each episode, I guess we have a pretty good idea of what is going to take place tonight. Must see tv!

A.MAR

Jarifa, my smpathy on your air quality issue; I hope the situation improves quickly!

This is so well stated, it deserves repeating: "With women STILL suffering from rigid patriarchal sexual norms (got that off my chest) , unfortunately, Javier was right with his assessment of the damage that could be done to Yazmín's future". So cruel and unfair but very sadly valid.

I'm actually hoping the two hotheads do find out what happened to Yaz. They will make mincemeat out of Javier and I can't wait!

Yes, I'll be glued to the TV tonight!!!

Diana

A.Mar

Thanks Jarifa, I enjoyed your recap. I felt this was one disaster after another. The biggest shock to me was Javier having the videos of him with Yazmin. We always knew he was a creep but he’s really gone to far now. Yazmin needs to let her father know and then go to the authorities. That kid will never become a doctor. He won’t even be allowed to work in a hospital.

I can see Azul being frightened of Fabian. She always sees him being aggressive toward her dad. To tell her mom to break up with Fabian is one thing, but to expect her to form a family with Sergio is a bit much. What a brat she’s turning into.

And Brisa does it again. I’m really surprised Gabriel thinks she should testify to help him. She couldn’t even help Iker out when Francesca wanted to know why he was at the restaurant. I’m almost dreading tonight. I don’t see anything good happening in court.

Pascual’s mother is something else. She looked like she was hurting Perla by digging her fingers into Perla’s arms. At least Perla suspects she’s not being truthful. I was not surprised by Matilde! She is one scary woman. But I have no sympathy for Valentin!

Liz

Karsu

I am really surprised at how much fun this is turning out to be. I almost quit early on because I thought it was depressing.

Cevdet was so funny when he said Karsu scared him. And then he and Karsu storm out to find out what the noise is. Maybe the bookstore is picking up some business. A coffee shop should help.

Poor Hassan, one son is a waiter serving strangers and the other one, that he raised, is a musician. Sounds like any dad that doesn’t feel his sons picked good professions, except he’d rather they be in the mafia!

I love how the sisters, mom and aunt are all getting along and teasing and laughing.

This episode really highlighted how self centered Reha is. The world revolves around him. And I can’t believe he’s upset about paying for his daughter’s dance class. He wouldn’t pay for the school and gives no money to Karsu. But he thinks Lale can get money from Atila when they divorce. He’s something else! His character is so unlikable, I wonder if he ever played a nice guy.

Liz

Karsu

Babachita – I’m with you! I think Dilaver is just trying to stay alive. He doesn’t seem like a bad guy. Atila is asking too much to ask him to have more loyalty to him, although it doesn’t seem to have caused any problems for Cedvet.

Kat – I googled meat and 3. I’d never heard of it! California, dontcha know. Here we eat avocado toast and organic greens. Well, others do. Burgers and tacos for me!

I’m not sure about the lady doth protest too much. I think she just wanted to date Atila to find out about him and maybe get something started, but that when she had to marry him she thought that this might not be too bad and it might work out. But it was very bad. Why she would want to hang onto a guy who’s so incredibly rude and insulting to her is beyond me. I’m sure her pride is hurt, but these are very dangerous men and jerking them around by refusing a divorce is a very bad plan. She saw how frightened Atila was of his own father, and she knows Atila is mafia himself. Hasan has had no problem offing people who stand in his way. This whole thing doesn’t make sense to me.

What else doesn’t make sense: She said to Atila “where will I go?” Um, to your fabulous upscale apartment you left just a couple of weeks before? The rent must be paid up and the furniture still there.

I didn’t get Karsu keeping the job. She knows now that Atila is paying her salary. You’d think she’d want to get out of there and not be beholden to him in any way.

A.MAR

This was one "disastser after another"!!!

"And Brisa does it again. I’m really surprised Gabriel thinks she should testify to help him." I do not know why he trusts her after her bizarre stalker-llike behavior when it comes to him.

"I was not surprised by Matilde! She is one scary woman. But I have no sympathy for Valentin!" Boy, do I agree with you again. Both she and Brisa seem to be a bit off kilter to put it kindly. As for Valentín, I do not think anyone could ever count on him for anything.

A.MAR #50
The recap will be up this weekend some time.

Karsu

I am puzzling over Hasan. In the scene where the boys show their report cards, he seems like a really nice dad. Elsewhere he says that Mert was a reminder that Mert’s mother (Hasan’s wife? Lover?) had betrayed him. Yet there he is being understanding. A few episodes ago he saw Mert on the street and seemed to disapprove of him. Now he first holds a gun to Mert’s head and then to his own, saying he would rather shoot himself than kill his son. But he had ordered Atila to kill Mert! What’s up with that? And Mert says he’s the son that most wanted to be like Hasan, Atila was never interested. Being a musician is a far cry from being a violent mafioso and Mert doesn’t seem like he has that in him. He’s more a cat cuddler.

I’m thinking Hasan doesn’t know Filiz is Karsu’s mother. Dilaver knows! Has he not told him? If not, he’s going to be in some big trouble.

Now we hear Lale has sold her condo. Don’t they have escrow? Or am I confused about how much time has passed? I feel like it’s been not more than a month or maybe month and a half since the wedding. What do you think?

I’m also puzzling over Karsu’s treatment of Atila. The night he abducted her he told her all, then slept on the floor while she took the bed. In bed, she smiled to herself. I thought that meant she was understanding. But now she’s giving him a major freeze. Does she really feel cold to him, or is she making him work for it? She seemed genuinely mad when she figured out what the bookstore arrangement was.

Irmak puts a couple of pills in Adnan’s tea. Those must be quick-dissolving. Doesn’t she know that the traditional telenovela instrument of choice is an eyedropper?

"LOS HILOS DEL PASADO"
Darcy, Kat in SC, Juanita, Novelera, UA, SpanProf & Co.,: I should note that Yadhira Carrillo will be the leading Protagonist in this Telenovela.

Karsu

Has a seemed like a good dad to both boys. I loved how Atila smiled when Mert was told to do better. Both boys looked fearful that Mert would be punished.

I wasn’t sure about Mert’s mother. Was she put out on the street and then she died? And are the boys half brothers through their mother? Hopefully it will be made clearer in the future.

I can’t believe the cafe is open and doing a booming business. I hope some of the success drifts over to the bookstore.

I think Karsu is waiting for the divorce before she lets their relationship resume. It will be interesting to see how long the divorce takes! Lale is playing with fire. She must know her telling her brother about Atila being Mafia started this mess for her.

I want to see this park Hasan picked for Filiz’s picnic. She doesn’t seem to think it’s a good choice!

I loved the ladies showing up at the coffee shop!

Liz

Karsu

I'm with Liz, the two are half brothers. I'm assuming Hassan discovered the Cuckoo in his nest after the kids were grown. That is probably when he ordered the hit on Mert by Atilla

About escrow, I'm sure countries are different, but we closed on our house in 14 days from offer to closing. Even if the sale isn't complete, big she has had an offer she pretty much out of her condo. I'm surprised Atilla hasn't mentioned to her that they've been asked to leave so she needs to find a new place anyhow.

That cousin wasn't shown in this episode again. Still wonder what her part in the story will be.

Karsu

Kat, you are a genius! The idea that Hasan didn’t know that Mert wasn’t his son until later. I love how you put it - the cuckoo in the nest. Too funny! I can’t wait to find out if that is indeed the reason Hasan ordered Atila to off him. I hadn’t thought of that!

And you too, Liz! It hadn’t occurred to me that they would be half brothers because Hasan said he raised him as if he were his own, which made me think Mert was adopted or was the son of his wife’s (girlfriend’s?) earlier relationship. But yes, you’re so right – half brothers makes total sense.

Karsu

I agree with Kat, Liz, and Maggie! You have made a very plausible backstory for the Mert-Hasan-Atilla situation. IIRC, someways back, Hasan seemed relieved Atilla hadn’t carried out the death sentence. That fits this beautifully. He didn’t really want him dead, he just wanted not to ever see Mert. Watching the flashback, it was fun to see the same personalities of the boys that we see today, Atilla fun and protective of Mert, who looks to Atilla for help. Both wanting to please their father. The father wasn’t too hard on Mert, giving him positive encouragement. That’s a wonderful father. What a tragedy it all came apart later. This also suggests that Hasan might be good to Filiz. But, it still leaves Atilla as tragically wounded trying to carry out Hasan’s wishes while protecting his brother. Hasan calls him evil, but he made him that way.

The cafe is bringing more visitors. Karsu’s frown probably won’t attract customers. Atilla plays along. She frowns, but he can tell she loves him. That’s probably why she frowns because she knows it, too!

Lale is going to make money out of the divorce. She is annoying, but she is a strong businesswoman. She pushed to get what she wanted, even using subterfuge. She is now accepting that this didn’t work, but will get something out of the deal. She might be a better businessperson than her brother! I don’t think she will be heartbroken.

Watching Filiz flourishing with the new attention from Hasan is fun! She likes the game of love. I’ll bet she was fun to watch as a young woman. I enjoy the fact that her sister is very different. They are both happy in their roles and supportive of one another.

A.MAR Parte 1 Notes From the Couch . . .

Estrella at a Crossroads
Estrella opens up to her mother about the situation she is finding herself in with Azul. Azul is not doing well and wants her to go back to Sergio so she can have the family she never had. Estrella feels like her relationship with Fabián is falling apart. She feels she is in between a rock and hard place. Meche asks if there is any way to fix things. She and Fabián look so much in love. Estrella explains that Fabián's aggression towards Sergio is what is causing the difficulties with her daughter and she has given up hope. She insists that Azul will always be her priority but she doesn't want to be forced to choose. She is at a loss for how to fix the problem. Meche says the only thing she regrets is what she never did. She advises her daughter to play every single card she has. If then, her relationship doesn't work out, she will have no regrets. She has to fight.

Erika's Success and Estrella's Devastation
It turns out that the only reason that Yazmín got a visit from Javier is that he was making a drug delivery to Erika and had to kill some time before she was available to see him. Erika makes sure that Javier knows that he can count on her to help him get back with Yazmín. He has brought Erika a bottle of liquid scopolamine (aka Devil's breath that has legitimate medical but also nefarious uses). He tells her that just one drop of said drug can cause the consumer to become uninhibited, submissive, easy to manipulate and severely confused. More than that could be fatal.

Erika puts her scheme into effect by showing up at Fabián's. He has just gotten off the phone telling Gabriel he will be at court to testify for him the next day.
He lets Erika in when she tells him she was worried after they had talked about Sergio. Erika did her own investigation and found a couple of papers in Sergio's desk in his room and photographed them. Erika reminds Fabián that her loyalties are always with him. She shows them to him on her phone. It is a list of all of the fishermen in town and the debt each carries. She thinks it is odd because it seems that Sergio had this list from BEFORE he was doing the red tide bonuses. Why would that be??? Fabián wants to talk more about that topic and goes to get them a couple beers. She manages to put the one drop of the drug into his bottle. Fabián then engages in too much sharing with an ex and complains about how Sergio always seems to provoke him. He drives him crazy. Also, he has had the bad luck of Azul witnessing his clashes with Sergio. What to do? He doesn't want it to affect his relationship with Estrella.
Erika thinks that if they really love each other, they won't let anyone get between them. Fabián hopes so. He is suddenly feeling hot. He looks out of sorts. She tells him to go to bed. He has to be up early for court. She goes for more beer and returns with also a bottle of tequila. They have to celebrate that they may have enough info to prove that Sergio is no innocent. She ends up dousing him in tequila. Fabián feels strange. She helps him to his bed, undresses both of them and has sex with him.

A.MAR #50 Parte 2

In the meantime, Estrella calls Fabián. There is no answer. She leaves a message that she wants to repair their relationship. She doesn't want to throw what they have away. Eventually, Erika ends up at Fabián' s house. She knocks on the door and it opens. She goes in and finds Erika who she asks what she is doing there basically naked except for Fabián's shirt. Erika explains that she and Fabián were talking, having a good time and then one thing led to another. It just happened! Erika begs Estrella not to take it out on Fabián. It wasn't his fault. Estrella pushes Erika out of the way only to find Fabián naked and passed out. Erika apologizes saying that Fabián really loves her (Estrella). Estrella informs Erika that she is in no mood to listen to her and adds that she has had nothing but trouble because of her since she came back home. Erika is a hypocrite. She leaves. Erika rinses out the tequila bottle and smirks.

Eventually Fabián wakes up and sees Erika in his room. He asks her what she is doing there. She answers that it never should have happened. He asks what and sees their clothes in a pile. He wonders what it is what they could have done. When he realizes they could have had sex, he insists that is impossible. Erika thinks not. She reminds him of what he cannot remember. They made love last night. Unfortunately, Estrella found out and is very upset. Fabián cannot believe it happened.

Marina's Past Reveals Itself with the Appearance of Nicolás (Diego de Erice!)
Marina tells to get Gabriel to get a good night's sleep before his court date. He insists on sitting up reviewing all of the information that Adriana gave him. Marina is confident that that the judge will decide in his favor when he sees how much he loves Iker and he will be back home before they know it. She expresses her desire to build a home and family with him and Iker. He is worried that her old life will come calling and she will leave. She assures him that her life is with him now. He wants nothing more than that.

At the same time, Adriana is at her home looking through a box of photos. She looks at one of her and Marina, then another of Marina and her husband at their wedding. At the same time, a man calls Adriana's name. He is asking what she is doing. She says she is organizing some papers for work. The man appears. It is the same man who was Marina's husband: Nicolás! He and Adriana kiss.

Perla Analyzes and Valentín Folds
Perla gets Brisa's take on the Dolores situation. They look up the symptoms of kidney failure. Nothing seems to be applicable since Dolores only seemed to have a sudden onset of an illness AFTER Perla told Pascual she wanted to break up.

After supplying Nemesio with enough liquor, Matilde finds out not the reason that Valentín broke up with her: Perla. She confronts Valentín one more time knowing that the reason is Perla. She handcuffs themselves together but frees him once he agrees not to run away. He caves one more tiime saying he loves Perla . . .but as a sister. (YAWN!!!) Dolores overhears the conversation. She looks at sleeping Pascual and tells him she is his guardian angel and will protect him.

Oliver is Outclassed Not Once but Twice
Oliver sees Javier at the inn and asks if he is there to bother Jazmín. Javier says no. He is there to apologize to Oliver for what he did but soon they are at odds with Javier telling him that Jazmín will very soon be leaving to become a doctor. Oliver will be left behind here fishing for red snappers. Javier adds that there is nothing wrong with that but their lives will be completely different. Doctors do not end up with fishermen.

Oliver talks to Jazmín about what Javier told him. She agrees. They have a very short time left so it is better that they not continue their relationship. He disagrees and will prove that he, being a jarocho (a person from Veracruz), will prove them all wrong. He will do anything for her.

A.Mar

Thanks Jarifa, that was a great read. We all knew what Erika was going to do but it was still a shock. I can’t believe she supposed to love Fabian but gives him a drug that could be fatal. I wonder if she’ll pull up a fake pregnancy. I don’t think they had sex. It looked like Fabian passed out quickly. But we know Estrella is done with him. I just hope she doesn’t get with Sergio. Azul will be so happy with Fabian out of the picture. I imagine she’ll be a real pain with her whining for her mom to get with her dad.

So Marina’s sister married Marina’s husband. Marina hasn’t been missing that long, unless she had disappeared before the hit on the head. The husband doesn’t know that Adriana is not a nice person. So he eventually might want Marina back, if he finds out what his present wife is like!

I’m wondering if Fabian will make it to court. He really can’t count on Brisa. She’ll be there, but what will she say.

Poor Pascual. His mother is his major problem!

One thing I forgot to mention. Adnan chose Filiz birthday as his password! What a slap in the face to Irmak. It was rather funny though. Who will she get to decipher all the spreadsheet data I wonder. Omer? Atilla? A forensic accountant? Time will tell.

Jarifa, thank you for your amazing, riveting recap of a sad and revelatory episode.

Where to begin?

Shock and awe were threaded throughout: “It is the same man who was Marina's husband: Nicolás!” Jaw dropping, numbing and totally out of the blue. I suspected jealousy was at the heart of Adriana’s malice, but could not have imagined the depth of her hatred – until now. The burning question in my mind is whether the baby was on the boat or if he had been “lost” prior to Marina’s “accident”. A startling, unexpected twist…

“Erika's Success and Estrella's Devastation” captured the act of betrayal and subsequent fallout marvelously. Erika had every dastardly detail down perfectly and her timing was impeccable. A distraught, drunken Fabian, drowning in self-pity, played right into her hands. Erika orchestrated a grand lie literally right in front of Estrella’s eyes. Estrella truly looked devastated and physically ill. While she and Fabian have always managed to talk out their differences, this is very different. Based on the scattered clothes, Erika’s phony “apology”, the liberal sprinkling of alcohol prevalent on both Erika and Fabian, Estrella would have no reason to think nothing happened. (I hadn’t thought they slept together as Fabian seemed to conk out right away but…).

Gabriel “is worried that her old life will come calling…” Little does he know Nicolás is already here. From what we’ve seen, we have no reason to believe Nicolás knows what Adriana did and that he likely married her in good faith (although marrying your dead wife’s sister is unsettling no matter what). However, what Marina will do – return to the husband she used to love or stay and start over with Gabriel, the man she now loves. What a tangled web!

“Dolores overhears the conversation. She looks at sleeping Pascual and tells him she is his guardian angel and will protect him”. I think she is a devious devil, mother or no!

Will Fabian rouse himself for the hearing tomorrow or further muck things up for Gabriel by being a no show?

Jarifa, thank you for relaying everything so splendidly.

Liz and Diana, thank you for your insightful comments. You are both most likely right that Fabián didn't have it in him to have sex with Erika. Let's hope not. Again, if he did't let her in and entertained her with a beer, none of this would have happened. He could have gotten the info at the door. He knows what a snake she is. Duh!

As far as unwanted pregnancies always popping up somewhere in a novela, I am hoping that Estrella's unexpected pregnancy with Azul checks off that "requirement."

The whole drugging, staging and framing of Fabián as unfaithful reminded me of what Rosalba, Erika's mother, did to Estrella's father Ulises way back at the beginning of the novela. Of course, Ulises ended up dead but that is besides the point. Looks like Erika learned her lessons well.

Good question if Fabián will be able to get himself to court the next morning either from a hangover from the drug or out of pure shame and embarrassment that he could have been that stupid.

So how long until Marina and her hubby, who is now her sister's hubby, meet again? One would think that the marriage to Marina would have been annulled if she went missing for long enough so Nicolás could marry Adriana. I wonder if Nicolás was in on the scheme to get rid of Marina.

If Iker is really Marina's, was he stolen from her as an infant? Was he Nocolás' son?

Excellent observation Jarifa, and oh so sadly true.
