It's been a crazy stressful week, and I haven't had time to check in, sorry. But I have made progress! I made it to Nilufer's rescue! :) I should be able to get to episode 25 by this weekend!

I agree that watching the romance between Omer and Elif is very sweet, hopefully it will get even sweeter without the stress and worry of Nilufer's kidnapping hanging over Elif's head. Elif going crazy in the bathroom trying to escape was hilarious!

KPA

Great Darcy! You’ve made lots of progress in a complicated dizi! I enjoyed watching the sushi scenes. Fatih has a softer side. Of course, the sushi led to the rescue of Nilufer!

But the main relationship for me is Omer and Elif! They have such great chemistry! I agree! The bathroom scene was very entertaining.

Officially at episode 25!

I've had to suspend disbelief during TV shows for a lot of reasons but for this one it's the idea that Elif actually believes Omer isn't interested in her!!! LOL The way that man looks at her!! Swoon.... If I could find a man to look at me like that! I get the whole 'if he was interested, he would call' thing but the look on his face when he came to the door and saw her says everything you need to know, not to mention the tortured look on his face when she says she doesn't want to talk to him anymore...girl, I don't care what the man SAYS, it's obvious what he feels. Not that it's necessarily any great prize to be crazy about some guy who refuses to admit/act on how he feels, but it should be some solace to know you're not in it alone.

So, the ex-finance (can't think of her name right now, sorry) was involved in the dirty business...that explains why she was in the car. Sad, but not terribly surprising. Gonna be a blow to Omer when he finds out.

Fatih didn't exactly look happy after sleeping with Nilufer. He looked more guilty or unsettled. She looked happy, he uneasy. I wonder why she outed Elif to mom? Is she mad at Elif? Or is it some sort of weird projected guilt - she feels guilty but instead of outing herself she outs Elif?

So, 25 was the magic number.... are we going to start going forward at a certain pace? Which episode are you on Kat? Babachita, are you still on 25?

KPA

I’m fine starting at 25. Thank you for zipping so quickly! Of course I’ve seen this. But I will be glad to watch 25 this weekend and comment and start from here. I think a few others were joining us. Maybe Kat and Dondi? Let’s see if they see this. How fast do you want to go?

If we watch one a day, shall we comment more or less daily? We get quick answers this way.

Or if we set a weekly goal, say 26-30, and comment on the weekend? This has more flexibility.

Either works for me.

I think an episode a day is a good goal...I should be able to keep up with that, lol. And like you say it will make for faster feedback and more lively discussion. But I'm fine with either plan. We can even do a combination of the two if schedules get crazy. I know some days are easier than others for me to watch and comment.

Hopefully, everyone sees this over the weekend and has the opportunity to weigh in. I will add KPA to the page this coming week too since we are discussing it - and list it as airing on Youtube I think! ;)

I like doing one-a-day!

I’ll do #25 after my football game which is close to half-time.

KPA 25

I just realized we may be watching different versions, but they should line up ok. I am doing the easy route of English dubbing and CC. Once I got used to the accents, it works ok.

You mentioned that Fatih looked unsettled. I also thought it was an odd way to behave. He watched the video (glad that’s all he was doing) with a sad expression. Is Tayyar behind the video? Maybe Fatih is sad because Tayyar is pulling strings.

Speaking of Fatih, I think he is really rude to Elif. He was proud that she could keep her cool at the bank and plane. But he treats her poorly and he treats Nilufer like a princess. At times I worry that he might betray Nilufer if it suits him. But he loves his mother. He probably has no experience with actual love with a sexual partner.

He told Elif she owes 15 years of laundering for her role and another 15 for her father’s share. Not much hope there. No wonder Elif feels awful. But she still pulls herself together. She is a strong woman. She deserves some support from Omer. We can hope.

It was a weird location to let Elif out of the van. It looked like a museum or other landmark. Big red-pink building on hill with lots of stairs snd parking area. I wish I knew Istanbul!

It was sad watching Omer at Sibel’s grave. He is very torn knowing about her role.

To be continued!

KPA 2/2

Continued:

Interesting they linked kidnap vehicle to Denizer holding.

Elif back home. Bahar is such a false friend. Trying to break up Elif and Omer.

Cops are going to look at neighbors’ surveillance videos. Good idea of Omer.

At Omer’s, Husseyn tells mom that Omer to be working in Istanbul. Mom is happy. Elif shows up but doesn’t stay. Mom reminds Omer that with Sibel sometimes things were rocky, but they worked it out. Don’t feel hopeless. She can tell Elif and he love each other. Need to work it out.

As she leaves, both very stilted and formal. Elif drives off. I keep saying turn around!!! He throws a rock angrily.

Big news. Arda and Pelin have footage showing
Asli sneaking out two hours before murder!

Meeting with Chief Ali and Tayyar. Ali offers not to keep Omer in Istanbul. Tayyar says no, let him come. Keep your enemies closer! He also denies any connection of his people to Ahmed/Sibel death.

Asli on a tear…literally. She is cutting up magazines, clothes, etc. Must not be on meds!
Nilufer witchily notes Elif is back and tells their mom that Omer is a cop and woman in car was his fiancé. Cats out of that bag! Omer calls and asks to meet downstairs.

Elif with Omer in front of house. No luck on money or diamonds, notes Elif. Well, we should go our own ways then. Oh, and by the way, Metin knows you’re a cop.

Drives off with Omer looking stricken (again)! Go back!!!

I want them to get over themselves and work together. I dislike Bahar and am not liking Nilufer right now either. Sister-in-law is so mean to her loved ones. What is her story?

I think I'm at 31. I stopped watching to let you all catch up. I've already forgotten what 25 was about but the question as to why Nilufer outed Elif is probably because she feels betrayed. Fatih showed her the video of Elif laundering the money in Italy and not going there to close up her business.

One episode a day is good by me also, especially as some of the evening shows are winding down.

KPA

Great to see you here! I went ahead and watched it again. I think Fatih wants Nilufer all to himself, so that makes sense. Elif seemed to be the golden girl. Father’s pet. The more capable one. The other siblings might have some jealousy.

I will do #26 tomorrow. I could watch Engin all day!

Babachita

KPA 25

Yes, I'm watching the Spanish dubbing.

Fatih's dynamic is very interesting because is he himself with Elif? Or is he himself with Nilufer? I don't think he's really himself with either of them which is probably why he feels uncomfortable after sleeping with Nilufer. He has genuine feelings for her, but he's not delusional enough to believe he's that simple. I think there's a part of him that's always aware that he's her kidnapper, the guy who's forcing her sister in money laundering, and probably had something to do with her father's death (no matter what Tayyar says) there aren't enough hearts and kisses to overcome all of that - Nilufer looked like she could delude herself at least in the moment, I don't think Fatih managed it.

Maybe he's rude to Elif because he really is a jerk, but then maybe he's just clinging to the persona or playing the role? Doing what daddy/tio Tayyar expects him to do?

Interesting Kat, Nilufer might be mad at Elif for betraying her. She does seem mad some of the time, and then she doesn't seem mad other times. Which is probably an accurate portrayal of what the trauma and confusion would look like if you were kidnapped and terrified but then you fell in love with your kidnapper and then found out your dad and sister were 'money launders' and now you're terrified but not terrified, but maybe you should be? Or not??

Asli off her meds is right!!! That was very well-acted! I haven't figured that girl out - was she involved? I don't think so, I'm guessing it's a red herring, but she's up to something. I think she has Elif's money.

Does Omer know about Sibel's role? I didn't think he knew yet. We found out but I don't think he did. I thought they just found out that Asli lied about leaving the house the night the girls were kidnapped and a family car being involved. We found out Sibel was involved in the crime business when Fatih told Tayyar that Omer was a cop but there wasn't a corresponding discovering on the police side - unless I missed something.

KPA

Great discussion already. Not sure if Omer knows. But, if the police know, he will soon.

Getting ourselves oriented will take awhile for those of us who know the story. Because I’ve seen this and Imperio de Mentiras, I get confused because of things from the latter that didn’t happen in the former.

I like the question of which Fatih is he. And, I agree he is both. I decided he is rude to Elif because he has to keep the boss-worker relationship clearly defined. Probably never got “caught” before Nilufer, who challenged his bad guy facade.

Seems like at one point during kidnapping he emphasized to Nilufer how much fun Elif was having without a thought of Nilufer’s plight. So, her own thoughts enhanced by Fatih’s lies were a powerful combination.

KPA 26 1 of 3

Elif drives off leaving Omer sad and pensive. A dark van drives by! I have to admit I jump every time I see a van both because of Tayyar and Fatih but also from Karsu with Attila. Do regular folks drive dark vans or just mafia types?

Fatih shows Nilufer the video of Elif, reminding her over and over how much of a liar she is.

Denizer Holding: Bahar and Elif girl talk. and Elif says he had her totally fooled when he looked and smiled at her. (Don’t we know it!) No one is there for me. Baha reminds her of Levent, as she continually does. “ I’ll always be here for you,” says Bahar, smirking.

Board meeting: Asli says Levent (the accountant) is not needed. His report suggests they sell the office and move to a smaller location to cover the public debts. Asli loses it and pulls the tablecloth, causing everything to crash to the floor. Asli says Levent is not needed . (I seem to recall she had been a tough interviewer when he applied, so maybe she knows something about finance?) Later, Asli put the moves on Levent in Bahar‘s office. Levent tells Asli she seems very tense!

Mother and Elif discuss why didn’t you tell me about the panic attacks? Mom says The doctor says the meds should help her get better.

Police station: Pelin, Arda discuss huge file on Asli including battery, theft, etc. Omer says Elif doesn’t want him on the case, so P and A to work with her. Hussein says OK, but will follow rules. Omer says he can’t make promises he can’t keep. Elif is innocent. After others have left, Husseyn asks Pelin what else the rich girl did. Later, Chief Ali comes in and tells Omar he is staying in Istanbul, but to stay away from this case. Ali sees Elif’s drawing of Fatih in the files, grabs the files and leaves. He calls Fatih. (We may never see these files again.)

More to follow…

KPA 26. 2 of 3

The police tell Elif they need to re-interrogate the whole family because of new evidence, the video. Elif protests. There is now evidence someone in the family is lying. Pelin says they can’t tell her more because it’s an open investigation, but she can ask Omer, who is not part of it. Mom and Asli are still unwilling and Asli stomps out. Mom says no one can find out about Asli. She then suggests that Omer might help being a policeman. Elif is stunned that her mom knows this. “Nilufer told me.”

Tayyer to Fatih: keep Omer on a short leash. He also uses the phrase that “this is the last exit before the bridge.” I wonder what these two are cooking up?!!! Tayyer later threatens Fatih with death. At the hospital, Tayyar is waiting for an ambulance that arrives with body parts from Middle Eastern children. Yuck!!! What a creep!!!! What evil! Tayyer tells Fatih to get Elif to launder more money to clean this up, probably the money is from the sale of the body parts. He threatens Fatih with death. He says your image is everywhere!

Later at the hospital a patient is getting a new heart. He says to Tayyar that no one got hurt right and Tayyar replies it’s a question of your conscience or your life! You made your choice way back.

At the house. The doctor says that Asli must be on her meds. He mentioned a clinic mom says no clinics. She says her father had put her in clinics often and no more. She tells Taner to tell no one about the attacks.

In the Bazaar Omer goes to a jeweler. He asked about someone attempting diamond sales that the jeweler had reported. It was attractive, young lady and an older woman. He told that them they were fakes. Omer leaves and halfway out of the Bazaar, the lightbulb goes on. He returns to the jeweler with pictures of Sibel and her mother and the jeweler verifies that they are the pair. The jeweler says he hopes they can find this gang, which sets Omer off at the thought of Sibel being part of a gang! He calms down and leaves. A flashback shows that Sibel and her mom had an elaborate story to go with the attempted sale without a certificate for the diamond, a spouse died, left much debt, etc., how much is it worth? When told it was fake, they both look shocked. When Omar leaves the jeweler, his face looks stricken, and his body language shows pain. (If only we could cheer him up!)

Mert brings flowers to Nilufer. She could hardly be more rude. Finally, she agrees to go to the garden. He asked her how did you send me a message and she says that they made her. Then he says the lover you mentioned was a lie then? She replies, no I have a lover. Nilufer says is this all you wanted? You could’ve asked this at the door and wasted less time.

Omer arrives at Sibel’s home. Her mother answers the door rudely and tells him to leave. He forces his way in. She reminds him the case is closed. He should get lost.

KPA 26. 3 of 3

Having already seen this, I am fascinated at little details that later are important. I guess this is true for most things. I often reread books. But a dizi is an investment of time. But, I may have to revisit some others to see what I missed!

Asli is fascinating to me. She is so out of control. Why is she so different from her sisters. Do we know if she went to college? Where did she meet Taner?

Tayyar likes to share sayings like, Keep your friends close and your enemies closer and We are at the last off ramp before the bridge, etc. He is obviously educated. Very seldom he makes me laugh. But mostly he creeps me out.

Next time will be Omer with Sibel’s family. That will be tough.

I hope he and Elif join forces soon.

Thanks Babachita. I guess my remark about why Nilufer was mad at Elif was a spoiler from this episode. Darcy with her comment that she perhaps thought Elif was having a vacation in Italy is also a likely scenario.

I'm watching the Spanish dubbed version with Spanish CC's, so if I do any recaps you'll have to take them with a grain of salt. I discovered with the 3 shows I was watching this summer that it is a lot less guess work on my part of what happened if I used the English CC's.

DAYTIME OT:
Darcy: Univision might want to shake things up by moving one of their evening primetime Telenovelas to Daytime.
