Episode 53 #1
At the Police Station:
Captain Ali and the Manager/Commissioner (M/C) are talking in Ali’s office:
M/C: Ali, was this true what Omer was saying? You will probably have to answer to all these accusations.
Ali: Sir, please, don’t trust all this crazy talk. These are newly trained people. They supposedly call themselves police officers. Their imagination is full of fantasy, just like in Hollywood films. And we entrust this country to them.
M/C looks pensive as he leaves. Ali looks at him with anger/fear in his eyes. [Hmmm. Maybe the Manager/Commissioner is not part of the crooked cops, at least not yet. We can hope!]
Outside the Station, Omer leads the other musketeers away from the building. Husseyn is last.
Arda: So, we must take things as they come. You could see his (Tayyar’s) face was showing pressure. With everything that just happened in front of the director (M/C), sorting this out will take a lot of time.
(FYI, In my English-English version, the head cop has been labeled previously manager and here, director. I previously called him Manager/Commissioner. I will continue to use my abbreviation M/C for the director as well, for continuity, although director is probably a better title than manager! He is the head honcho.)
Arda continues: At least we’ll calm down.
Husseyn, sarcastically: Oh, yeah, thank goodness.
He stares at Omer. Omer walks away, only to be caught by Elif.
Elif: Omer! I…
Omer: There’s nothing you can say to me. Hey, even I couldn’t convince you so I guess it’s just childish to expect that others would believe me.
All four stare at Omer with serious expressions.
Omer: I knew it was late coming, but I think I got it now.
He strides off, and Elif wants to follow him. Pelin holds her back: Elif, let him go.
Elif: Pelin, I have to go. I can’t leave him alone in this state.
Pelin: I understand you want to be with him but let those two brothers take care of this. You’ll only cause him to get angrier.
Elif nods in agreement. Pelin and Arda take Elif while Husseyn and Omer walk in the other direction.
Husseyn: Omer, come on, please, come get into the car. Let’s go somewhere and take a breather until we can return to normal. We’ll have a few drinks. We can think about what we can do. Let’s go, man.
Omer keeps walking and Husseyn tries to keep up. They walk side by side, leaning exactly the same way; after all, they’re brothers.
In the Police Station
Pelin: Elif, dear, come sit down. I’ll order some tea, and we can gather our thoughts.
Arda comes in and kicks his desk.
Pelin: Arda, calm down.
Arda: Yeah, but what’s to be calm about? Omer just blew a fuse.
Elif: What’s Omer going to do now?
Pelin: Well, probably, ….
She’s cut off by Ali who just walked in. Lots of stares all around.
Ali: Tell the secretary to write this report about Omer and to announce it to all the authorities.
He glowers at Arda and takes a step toward him.

Episode 53 #2
Ali to Arda: You’ll take this document and hand it in personally.
Pelin interrupts: OK, Chief.
Ali: They’ll see what happens when they contradict me.
He leaves the room.
Arda: Look at his arrogance!
Pelin: Yes, Arda. Stop it now, please.
Arda: I am what I am Pelin. When I quit one day I’ll punch that man.
Pelin: Omer might need you to go and I’ll stay here alone. Leave it to me to find out his dirty dealings, OK? Arda, we can’t do anything when we get so angry. We have to be calm. We have to fight this thing from the inside.
Arda: Yes, OK, you’re right, Pelin. Sorry, Elif. I get crazy when I lose my temper.
The three of them look at one another.
Pelin: We were all surprised at what we saw, but we have to be calm if we want to help Omer.
Arda: I wonder what state Omer is in now. I’m so glad Husseyn is with him.
Pelin: He felt bad, the poor guy. Omer is strong and he’ll recover. We’re OK. How will he know he’s in such a game now? Anyway, let’s get down to business.
Arda: Exactly. Let’s first find the prosecutor. I’m going to have a word with him afterwards. I have something to tell him.
Pelin: OK, I have the address.
Elif finally speaks up: Pelin, are you also in agreement with Omer?
Pelin: Of course, Elif, everything is obvious.
Elif is thinking hard and says: Then Uncle Tayyar is a killer.
Pelin nods in agreement.
Chief Ali is back in his office. He calls Tayyar and smiles: All right, it’s done.
Tayyar: Very good, Ali. The holiday will be very good for Omer. He’s insane, that’s the problem.
Tayyar smiles as his van drives to his home where a crowd is yelling: Tayyar Dundar, our Father. We will protect you!
Mert welcomes him as he exits the van. Pinar is watching from afar.
A reporter asks if he will sue the police division.
Tayyar: Friends, it was just a misunderstanding. We went for justice and told all we knew. Thanks to members of the police force, they’ve been very sensitive about it. They gave the penalty to those who broke our hearts. The subject is closed now from both. There’s no more to be said.
Another reporter asked: So, is it true that someone tried to kill Miss Pinar? They say that she was left to die in a boat. Is that correct? Who do you think it could be? Do you have any enemies?
Tayyar: Friends, thank you very much. I’m so tired.
He heads into his property, and the crowd resumes their chanting.
Tayyar: Children, children, look, thank you, thank you, you’ve worked so hard for my sake as I have for yours. Your prayers will always protect me. So far, they’ve worked. Thank you so much. In this world I have my soul that I’ll gladly sacrifice for you. Thank you, (and he repeats this several times).
He enters his home.
Back at the police station, Elif, Arda, and Pelin look dejected.
Elif: So, what do you think the prosecutors want from Omer? Why did he play it the way he did?
Arda: Because someone has paid off the prosecutor, it’s that simple.
Elif: Who would pay off the prosecutor?
Pelin: Of course, Tayyar Dundar.
The phone rings and Pelin answers: Hello, OK, I’m writing. (She writes.) Just a minute. Yeah, OK, Thanks.
Arda: What’s that about?
Pelin: Addresses in case Turgut’s been hiding in his summer or winter house.
Arda: Or neither. Perhaps he’s on his way to the airport.
Pelin: Strong possibility.

Episode 53 #3
Arda: Let’s inform all the custom gates. Call a travel agent to see if there’s a ticket issued in his name.
They both get busy, while Elif look concerned, still absorbing the news about Tayyar.
At Prosecutor Turgut’s kids’ school, he and his son walk to their car where his wife is waiting. She worried that he didn’t talk to the teacher. Turgut said he couldn’t because he was on his break. (It’s obvious Turgut doesn’t want a record for the police.)
Turgut: He will call you.
His wife: When his teacher doesn’t see him, he’ll get worried. Can you call him and talk?
Turgut: I have cancelled my phone call.
His wife: What’s going on? Don’t make me worry. What do you mean your card’s cancelled? Why this hurry? It’s as if we’re running away from someone.
Turgut: We’re not running away, we’re moving away. We’ll be away for a while, OK?
His wife: Do not be ridiculous. I can’t go without telling anyone. What will happen to my parents? What will I say to them at work? I’m not allowed any time. I did not plan for this.
Turgut: You can sort everything out when we get back eventually.
Husseyn is trying to keep pace with Omer.
Husseyn: I’m not as young as I used to be. Come on, wait, I’m getting out of breath.
Omer: Don’t talk to me, let’s just walk.
Husseyn: Come on, man, let’s just walk to parliament, to the president’s office and so on. We’re at anchor for two days. We will tell them that you’re correct and so on.
Omer: Really? I just go back, ey, go back to being a cop?
Husseyn: I’m just kidding. I just said that so we could have a laugh and a breather. Thank you for nothing. You’re getting angry with me now? Everyone else has had their turn so now it’s mine.
Omer: Please leave me alone.
Husseyn: Am I the one that caused all of this? Did I do this? Did I take that paper from the file? [You bet you did!] Did I bribe the prosecutor? Did I leave you? Did I kill Taner? It isn’t just Ali. Did I get rid of you? Am I Tayyar’s man?
Omer: If we talk like this, we just hurt each other’s feelings.
Husseyn: What, are you upset about them?
Omer stops and faces Husseyn: What did you do? Husseyn, when Ali called me a liar you were quiet. You didn’t stand up for me. The chief stood in front of you and said that only in my opinion is Tayyar a killer. You didn’t say I’m right. You left it alone, you barely supported me. You just shut up so you wouldn’t lose your job.
Husseyn: You know that even with my pathetic salary, how many bellies are filled? Those bellies will be filled if you can just support me, we will take the bull by the horns and make sure everyone is all right, OK?
Omer: Of course, I know it’s important to put food on the table. What do you see when you look in a mirror, when you’re alone and have time to think. How do you feel? What will happen when you realize that I’m right?
Husseyn: Omer, in order to do that I could not stir things up as I did not know what you spoke about with the prosecutor…
Omer: Shut up, just shut up? When you talk, you just dig a deeper hole. When you left the prosecutor, you must have seen the permit yourself. Didn’t you examine it when you went to pick up Tayyar? I brought the documents here myself. Everything we did was legal.

Episode 53 #4
Omer: And you know what? You know that if today you were there instead of me, I would have defended you until the end. I would say, if my brother believes something, then he’s right. Husseyn, I don’t desert those I believe and love I wouldn’t let them burn, I’d burn myself first. You taught me that. Would you take a bullet for someone else? You know, even if you thought I was wrong, you shouldn’t have left me alone out there, Husseyn. I’ve always believed in you, but you gave up on your own today. If we combine our spirits and minds, no one can destroy us. Whatever happens, we’ll be together until we die. Didn’t you promise that? It’s a promise you made then and it’s a promise you need to make again now. You know what, today I was right. Today I stood in front of Ali, and I thought that my brother had my back, but I guess I was wrong. You taught me all of this, brother, but today you forgot yourself. You forgot who you really are. But it’s no problem, no problem at all.
With that, Omer walks away leaving Husseyn standing there, very affected by Omer’s words.
In the garden at Tayyar’s home
Tayyar joins Pinar and Mert: What happened? Is the crowd dispersed?
Mert: Are you OK?
Tayyar: I’m fine.
Mart: Nobody believed all this rubbish anyway. The phone kept ringing all night. Isn’t that right, Pinar?
Pinar nods.
Mert continues to comfort his father [gag!]: You saw the students outside. We’ll defend our father, they said.
Tayyar: I thank all of you, my son. Thank you very much.
Mert: Pinar was also very upset.
Tayyar looks like he might not believe this: Is that so, my girl?
Pinar: Of course. How could I not worry?
Tayyar: Thank you. Anyway, it’s all over now.
Pinar has an odd expression on her face.
Tayyar’s phone rings.
Tayyar looks at the phone but doesn’t answer.
Tayyar: Anyway, this much fun is quite enough. I have to go to work, so don’t wait. OK, here you go. (He strokes Pinar’s hair.). Take care of yourself my beautiful. Bye.
Mert: Dad. I was really worried about you today. Look, I’m with you all the time. Do not forget that, OK?
Tayyar gives him a fatherly in-fun punch: You’re the most valuable thing also. Don’t forget it.
Tayyar leaves.
Elif, driving, puts in earpiece and makes a call: I need to talk to you urgently. I can’t come to you. If you remember, I’m not supposed to be seen, so…. OK, I’m going there.
Bahar is holding something in her hand. Muzzafer enters: Welcome, Miss Bahar. You called?
Bahar: Flowers came for Elif. Who delivered them?
Muzzafer: A young boy, the florist’s helper, I suppose.
Bahar: You didn’t sign a receipt or something, so you didn’t see a name?
Muzzafer: No, Miss Bahar, I didn’t see anything.
Hulya enters: Muzaffer, can you send someone urgently to get Miss Asli’s pills?
Muzzafer agrees and leaves.
Bahar is still thinking.
Taxi drives up. Omer gets out. It’s a location near a lighthouse. Up drive Arda and Pelin. Omer tries to look pleased.
Pelin: How have you been?
Omer: I am as you see me, Pelin. Any news?
Arda: There is, but it’s not good news.
Omer: Did he get away?
Omer: We were too late. The airplane was on the runway, but we couldn’t stop it.

Episode 53 #5
Omer starts to yell: No, no. What now? He just had to give me a little push, and I just fell into his trap. I just fell for it. I lost my temper! Now we don’t have any proof! I guess that’s the end of that!
Pelin: Omer, stop! We’re not going to give in. We’ll sue and object. Arda and I have both seen this document. Husseyn also saw it. We’ll all bear witness.
Omer: Pelin, what’s the use of it if they know that we’re on to them. You know what? There’s going to be no sleep for me if I don’t catch these guys. I think all of us know that.
Omer stalks off.
Arda: Where, Omer? Where do we go from here?
He continues to walk away. Arda and Pelin look frustrated.
At the Denizer mansion:
Asli is talking with Nilufer about tiny baby bottles to put chocolate into for gifts to celebrate a baby.
Asli: It’s a good think Elif isn’t here. She’s totally against this. It’s an American tradition. I’m so glad I have you, my love.
Nilufer: I’m glad to have you, too.
Asli: Once we know if it’s a boy or girl, then I can do this. I’m looking for something exactly like this.
Nilufer: Let me just see that again. Did they do something like a tree for a baby? I saw something very different. I’ll show it to you in a minute.
Hulya comes to the door as doorbell rings.
Nilufer: Please don’t let her turn on the TV or anything.
Hulya serves Asli. Asli is looking through the paper.
At the front door, a young man asks for Mrs. Nilufer and hands her a box from Mr. Fatih.
She carries the box and tries to hide it from Asli, but she sees it, thinking it’s a baby surprise.
Asli’s phone rings, and she answers it,
Nilufer opens the box. A note says to “follow me,” attached to a DVD. It’s from Fatih: Hello beautiful girl, my wife, my woman. I miss you so much. It’s undeniable as every waking moment you are in my mind. I want to look into your eyes, but I’ll find a way. Although it’s late, I was uncomfortable not giving a wedding gift to my bride. I have sent two boxes. Open the red one. (She complies.) The sparkle in your eyes cannot be missed. (She finds a diamond ring in the box.) I could not find anything shining like your eyes. I hope you like it. Nilufer is crying happy tears as she puts on the ring.
Fatih: Now open the blue box. (She does and finds a plane ticket.) You know I’m going to Rome. You know that it’s the most important trip of my life. The first two days I’ll be a little busy, but after that, everything will change. If you’ll come in those first moments of the new life that I start you can be by my side. Maybe we could have a short honeymoon. What do you say?
Nilufer smiles through happy tears and looks longingly at his face She kisses his face on the video before turning off the DVD.
Quick change of mood! Tayyar and Fatih are at a shooting range. Tayyar has a long-range rifle and shoots.
Tayyar: Metin, I would say I’ve hit everything exactly.
Metin takes a turn: Shot!
Tayyar: Both of us! I’ve never missed at all until just today. Pull!
Tayyar, continues: Although on the last shot you missed but I still hit all 12 of mine.
Fatih: Did you take aim? Will you miss this one maybe?
Tayyar: Well done, good observation. You’re not so bad. Metin, I wonder if you heard the commissioner? I gave him a little advance so he puts it on air. He was surprised when I finished with him. We don’t have a problem with Omer Demir, any longer, not at all, not a single problem.
Fatih: In fact, he was a good cop. We should get him in the Protection Team and have him tidy things up or something. Don’t miss.
Tayyar: Do not underestimate the enemy, Metin. You’ll make mistakes. Pull!

Episode 53 #6
Tayyar shoots again. Fatih opens the briefcase to find money.
Fatih: The second parcel of money arrived. Banks and Customs expect to hear from us. I made all the arrangements for two day’s time. I expect a sign from you. What are we doing, uncle? Do we go to Rome and hit the bullseye or are we giving up?
Tayyar: Nodding: Of course, Metin, otherwise it would seem a little odd, don’t you think, huh?
Fatih: Good, good. I have missed Rome. It’ll be beautiful.
Tayyar: I would have missed those days if you hadn’t shown incompetence. Metin, do not miss this one.
Fatih: There’s no missing any longer. Look at my every shot. I’ll shoot on 12. After this Rome trip, things will change. I am writing a new chapter in my life.
Tayyar is aiming, but what Fatih is saying may cause him to miss. Tayyar: What is going to change? What are you implying?
Fatih: You suspect every small thing, uncle. What will change, even you’re going to be proud of me and say “Well done,“ after I take care of this so easily.
Tayyar: OK, stop talking, Fatih. In a while my son will be here. I do not to see you here, then.
Fatih: Did you call your son here? Won’t he be scared his cousin is here?
They stare at one another. Tayyar: Watch your words and speak carefully, Metin. Come on, it’s now your turn. Hit it or I will win.
Fatih instead takes the money and leaves Tayyar there, looking puzzled.
Fatih literally runs into Mert, hitting his shoulder hard as he walks out.
Mert: Hey!
Elif is waiting in the meeting place in the abandoned building. It is raining. In walks Sami.
Elif: Thank you very much for coming right away. (Now we know who she called.)
Sami: No need to thank me, that’s my job. The Rome trip is coming, and you’re a little stressed.
Elif: I didn’t come to talk about Rome.
Sami: So, what do you want to talk about? If it’s got anything to do with Omer, I’ve closed that book already.
Elif: Mr. Sami, you probably don’t know the news. Omer was suspended.
Sami: What?
Omer drives up to what looks like the same abandoned building where Elif and Sami are meeting.
Elif: The chief said that he was suspended and Omer got very angry and began to shout and even his brother couldn’t come between them.
Sami: This is really bad.
Elif: Maybe the guy just said it in anger and maybe he won’t enforce it.
Sami: If the situation continues like this, there’s nothing that can be done. He has openly assaulted him.
He stomps around and yells “Omer” in frustration and anger.
Elif: But Omer was right. I was there. Pelin and Arda went after that prosecutor.
Sami: What? What happened to the prosecutor?
Elif: Everything happened because of him. They say the man took a bribe for something. Mr. Sami, please do something. Talk to Omer’s chief. Omer is not a police officer who deserves this. Also you stand up for him all the time, don’t you? Aren’t you prepared to do something for his future?
Sami: This is different. There’s nothing I can do now.

Episode 53 #7
Omer enters the building and pulls out his gun, concerned that someone is inside. He’s in time to hear some of Sami and Elif’s conversation≥
Sami to Elif: Nothing is decided, but there is something that you can do.
Elif: What can I do by myself?
Sami: I’m talking about the agreement. The best time to break it down is right now, I think.
Elif, voice raised: I did not come here to get any advice.
Omer puts his gun away and walks toward them.
Elif: I also didn’t forget what we talked about.
Sami: That’s no problem, then.
Omer enters: Hello.
Sami: Here you are, Omer.
Omer: What is this, now? You meeting without my knowledge?
Sami: Yeah, unfortunately. Elif had some doubts about the operation. She came to discuss them.
Omer is watching Sami closely.
Sami: Why are you here?
Omer: I need some time to get my thoughts together.
Sami: I think it’s time that you sort out your head. I would love to get news from you, not Elif, OK?
Omer looks over at Elif.
Sami: I don’t know why you’re like this. What’s going on, Omer?
Omer is still looking at Elif, thinking. She is looking down, not meeting his eyes.
Elif says she had better go, and leaves.
Omer starts to follow her.
Sami: Where are you going? What’s going on?
Omer: I’m sure Elif told you that, Chief.
Sami: I’ll talk with Ali. Don’t you realize that you’ve attacked the man? The man is right in what he does. Anyway, we’ll talk about it later. There’s something else I need to know. What happened to the prosecutor? Elif told me something, but I didn’t understand much of it.
Omer: Chief, I never thought I’d see corruption like this in my life. It’s simple. They tricked me to get rid of me.
Omer sits at the table. Sami is busy thinking.
Tayyar is walking with a ship captain.
Tayyar: Are the preparations ready for the trip?
Ship captain: Everything is ready, Mr. Tayyar. Whenever they want, we can go.
Tayyar: Good. He looks at the boat: Is there someone on the boat?
Ship captain: No, there isn’t, Mr. Tayyar, Sir.
But when they walk on the boat, they find Husseyn sitting in the bow.
The captain asks if he is OK.
Tayyar: Captain, you can go.
Tayyar, to Husseyn: It’s the wrong place and the wrong time for this fishing line. You can’t catch anything at this hour.
Husseyn: Maybe it wasn’t a fish that I decided to catch, Tayyar.
Tayyar: Don’t be a dreamer like your brother, Husseyn. You can afford a chase. Take up things after a hunt, OK? This is something hereditary. Let’s go to sea together. Let’s hunt for fish. I can teach you one or two tricks. After all, I’m your teacher and your boss.
Husseyn: I don’t need to.
Tayyar: Then why are you here? I’ve come to shove stuff down your throat. I came to rip your lungs out and give them to the fish. You’ve hurt me so much that you must also burn. I came so that you would see my anger. That is why I’m here.

Episode 53 #8
Tayyar: You get touchy with Svetlana, that’s your problem. As Ali says, you’re a very complicated man. Look, move your head left and right. The views are not so bad. Everyone is happy. OK, Sibel was a very good girl, she died, and it’s a shame. But perhaps if she hadn’t died, she would have been caught as a courier and she would be rotting in a jail. And then Omer couldn’t marry her. If Sibel had not died, he wouldn’t have met Elif. Isn’t that true? Come on Husseyn, learn from these things. I tell you, Husseyn, you have no need to look back. Look, it was almost a benefit. Don’t worry about the job. Omer is a smart and clever man. I will grant him one last favor.
Husseyn: Every day I did something dirty to my brother, I felt like dying. But you don’t care about that, do you? You’re right. I will relax the rope for now so that I can do whatever you say, but I cannot get rid of it. My children will grow up, and they will become self-sufficient for themselves, Tayyar. Then I will take you with me. Your death will be from my hand. This is my promise to you.
Tayyar: I know you got hurt a little bit. I know. Let’s enjoy things a little. Let’s send some news to the kids. They’ll have some money. You bring me just one diamond, your pocket will see some money and you’ll be happy. Your big salary day will come after all. Your service to me has been good to me, Husseyn. I’m grateful for it, totally.
They stare at one another for a bit, and Husseyn walks to leave the boat.
Tayyar watches him with a satisfied expression.
At the Denizer home.
Elif goes up the stairs and runs into Hulya. She tells her that Nilufer is watching television and Bahar is asleep. Miss Asli went to her room. It’s her medicine time. I’ll give her medication and go to sleep if you don’t want anything else.
Alif: There’s no need, I’ll give her the medicine. You go to sleep.
She watches Nilufer using the remote, smiles, and appears to have gone to her room.
Omer is flicking his Zippo again.
Omer: Ali is the infiltrator on the inside, I’m sure. I just don’t have evidence.
Ami: Well, that’s not good, is it?
Omer: The operation. It won’t become difficult because of me.
Sami: No no no no no….
Omer: Elif just got out of trouble, and I just don’t want to put her back in it.
Sami: The operation will continue as planned. However, there’s one major difference. You will not come back to us as a police officer. You will come in only as a civilian in a bad situation; you will be in trouble. If the operation is successful, you will not be rewarded or acknowledged.
Omer: I don’t have a problem with that as long as we keep Elif out of trouble. And when we finish there, I’ll take down their prosecutor and also Ali and especially Tayyar Dundar. I will erase him and all of his men, either as a cop or not.

Episode 53 #9
Sami: Omer, just because they treat us in a certain way, doesn’t make us the police. Look, we are on our own. We may not satisfy our conscience, but we will. Continue. At the top of the organization, they think it’s easy to swallow us. Obviously they see you as out . But I want you to do one thing, just calm down. Please calm down. Let’s not fail in this unfair situation especially because we are right. It happened, and our only concern is this Tayyar Dundar. Look, we have made a promise to Elif: we can catch a big fish here. We’ve got the momentum right now. We are so very close to reaching out end goal. OK. Let’s leave it. The brother of my wife is coming to dinner, and I really don’t want to be late. I’ll see you here again.
Omer: Chief. Did Elif come today to talk to you about anything else?
Sami, almost out the door, returns and closes it.
Omer: What did she say?
Sami: She didn’t tell me much. I was told that you are out of the operation right now. She’s all right, but she’s a bit nervous. You being out of the operation makes her nervous, plus you told her that you were in love with her, didn’t you? So, she is even more tense. She came, we talked, and I tried to calm her down.
Omer: Elif told you that?
Sami: Look, I’ve been a cop a few years and I’ve noticed some things. The sparks between you two are obvious. But now leave your life to the side, please Omer. You need to know. These men took you down because they fear you. What does that mean? Think about it.
Kpa
Sami: We are really close now. We need to clean this up quickly. You will also get your promotion. I’m sure that’s something you want. Now you understand that it’s not lovey dovey time right now. It’s time to take the offensive, Omer, my friend.
Omer is thinking about all this as he readies to leave the abandoned building. [I’m wondering if her heard any of the conversation between Elif and Sami before he joined them.]
Denizer mansion:
Elif is giving Asli her medicine. She covers Asli gently and comments on the weather, telling her not to catch a cold. Asli tells her she will take care of herself.
Asli: Elif, did you call Taner? (I think this is what she said. She must be as confused about her husband as she is about her mother.) He needs to know I’m home. What can we do so this child is OK? His mother doesn’t take much notice.
Elif encourages Asli to go to sleep. Elif kisses her goodnight. She asks Elif to leave the door open.
Elif: Why, don’t you sleep with the light off?
Asli replies sadly: Not anymore.
Elif stays with her, climbing into bed and the sisters hug.
Elif: What’s happening?
Asli: When I sleep in the dark in my dreams we fight with my mother, Elif. It should never be like this. We are separated for good. (She seems to remember this.) Isn’t it right? Elif, I don’t remember anything.
Elif: Hugs her closely: Don’t think about this now, just go to sleep.
Asli: In my dream, she is always very angry towards me. Why mother are you so angry with me? I ask her then, just as she starts to answer, I wake up. When we met last time, how were we?
Elif: I wasn’t with you when you last met. I wish I had been, but I wasn’t there.
FLASHBACK: Fatih showing Elif the video of Asli shoving her mother angrily, causing her death, with Fatih’s telling Elif it was the documentary of getting to know our family better. The video continues over and over showing this scene.
Elif is remembering this as she comforts Asli in the bed.
Elif: I’m sure that mom was never mad at you. She’ll always love you so much. Do you not remember? You were always her first gift.
Asli: Hmmm. If she was alive she would be very happy. She always ran before me shopping. But, Elif, let me tell you something. I feel that this baby is a girl and I’ll name her Zerrin. Our mother will live within her, Elif.
Elif smiles at this thought. If only!
