BAHAR

Dondi, thank you big time for all the extra story that you wrote up for us at the end of last week. It’s astonishing what all has been left out. It seems like what we’re seeing is the highlights reel.

Still, I enjoyed tonight’s episode even though I was bewildered in parts. For one, who was the lady Evren was out with at the beginning? It looked like they were on dates. What’s up with her?

This felt almost like a final, what with Bahar having gained wonderful confidence, the hearing going her way, everyone admiring her, Efsun getting more tolerable, the reconciliation with Uras, the babies coming home, and then the proposal. Hugs all around! But no, more story started up. Was Bahar wondering about having accepted the proposal? And then the important guy who had to have surgery and all the back and forth at his surgery with lots of powerful undercurrents. More coming up it seems!

"CASILLAS"
Missed last night's episode due to Monday Night Football doubleheader games, plus the NLCS & ALCS.

Did they kill off Annoying Laura yet ? Sick of her nagging!

bahar cuts #39 part 1

Tugra goes to see the guy he hired in accounting. They’re pressuring me. Whatever you’re going to do, do it fast, Nizam. Nizam replies, it’s only been a day or two. We are talking 250 million! It’s not possible to transfer this so quickly. Tugra doesn’t care, the job must be done quickly. Nizam says the chief physician has to sign off on the materials. He’s very meticulous. He scrutinizes everything. I can’t attract attention. Tugra says find a solution asap… capisci?

Doruk and Ahu interview assistant candidates. Ahu barely lets any of them speak before dismissing them. She’s nasty to all of them. And then there’s the guy we saw barging into the ER and taking over, Yildirim. She accuses him of hitting on her! Of course this did not happen, not even close. She’s ready to file a complaint if he doesn’t leave. Doruk apologizes to Yildirim, and he tells Doruk (referring to Ahu)—may God give you patience. Yildirim leaves and Ahu goes on and on about being harassed. She says it’s so hard to be beautiful and successful. Doruk quietly simmers.

They didn’t show the entire convo between Bahar and Tolga after her accident. He asks her if she can remember the first time she experienced the feeling of rejection. We get a brief flash back on a sad little blonde girl. Bahar says she doesn’t remember. But her father.... when she got into medical school... the cruelty increased. Humiliation... disdain... punishment. He was a simple tradesman. I got high grades. He couldn’t handle that I might be more successful. I was stronger than him in this way. Tolga asks, what did this tell you? If you are strong, you won’t be loved, she answers.

We saw this part, but I’ll repeat it. Tolga asks, do you think Uras doesnt love you? He does, Bahar answers, of course he does. No doubt. Tolga says, maybe Uras didn’t try to take this power from you. For you to have this power, the confidence it would create in you... he challenged you to realize it. Unknowingly, of course. These 2 feelings need to be separated.

Tolga adds, I heard you delivered a baby at a hotel. You were alone. How did it feel? There were no judging, questioning eyes around, Bahar says, I only had to fight with myself. But then... this is my job, she says with conviction. My life’s purpose. And being in the right place at the right time...there’s no feeling as magnificent. She smiles.

When Bahar and Uras spoke, she told him they needed to slowly rebuild their relationship. He needs to see her as this new version of Bahar.

Timur’s relationship with Nevra is still shaky, but he tells her that he’s more determined than ever to get Bahar back.

Maggie, In the montage of passing time, Evren speaks to women whom Bahar had helped. Ferda who was in the concrete, the women who were in jail with Bahar, and the woman who took in the mistress’ baby. He was recruiting them for the big marriage proposal set up. Later at the proposal, we find out that Ferda divorced, Filiz is doing well, the woman who took in the baby is happy. All thanks to Bahar.

Bahar complains that Yildirim is too strict with overseeing her PT. Doruk comments that Yildirim is like that.

After the hearing, Timur stops Tugra in the hallway. I hope the quality of our assistants has put your mind at ease. After all, I’m here for your comfort. Tugra replies, I haven’t decided if I’m comfortable or more uncomfortable yet. Maybe we can settle this as we get to know each other better, Timur answers, and I’ll send my report to you by email. (I think that refers to Evren punching that guy.)

Evren shares his pre-proposal jitters with Cem.

bahar cuts #39 part 2

They edited the baby name brainstorming. Efsun had a list. Ilgi (interest) for a girl, Algı (perception) for a boy. No one likes those. Efsun has alternatives: Asil (noble) for the girl, Yetkin (competent) for the boy. No takers for those either. Nevra whispers to Gulcicek, those are names for horses.

Seren says how about something more classic. Nevra suggests, Zeynep and Kuzey. Well Efsun’s maid is Zeynep. Umay says there are 3 Zeyneps and 4 Kuzeys in her class. Uras suggests, Berk (strong). Umay says how about Ferman (command)? Parla suggests Mert (manly, brave). Seren and Uras like it. Mert is the winner! And we saw Timur’s suggestion. Leyla olsun! Let it be Leyla!

Nevra rushes into the kitchen and pours a glass of water. Gul follows her. This is a happy day, why are you upset? Is it because they named the baby Leyla? If that was all, Nevra replies, this kitchen, this house, this family, these children… they were all mine. Then Leyla came and took everything. She erased me as a mother. We buried her, she was the one who passed, but it was me who died. Now they will keep her name alive with the baby. She will live forever. Nevra cries, I have died.

Gul comforts her. There will be others. You will be named, if you make an effort. Give them love, open your heart. Nevra (flower, blossom) is a beautiful name. Nevra feels much better. She tells Gülçiçek (rose flower) that her name is beautiful too, even if it’s outdated. They laugh.

Timur tells Parla it’s time to go. We find out that Timur got a place down the road from Bahar. A few minutes away. Bahar is not happy. Timur tells her there was no ulterior motive, but he wants to be close to his grandchildren in case of an emergency. Okay, Bahar says, you stay and take care of the grandkids, and I’ll get ready to go to my shift. He reminds her she just recovered. She should stay home.

Ha, Mert cries and Seren, Uras, Efsun and Gul try to comfort him. Maybe he’s hungry. Seren says she’s been feeding him a lot. Nevra tells Uras that Timur was like this and so were you. Umay holds a sleeping Leyla. Nevra covers her ears. Timur sleeps on the couch. Leyla starts crying. Timur wakes up and takes her from Umay. Leyla howls. Efsun takes Leyla from Timur. Seren tries feeding Mert but she’s too sore. It’s chaos!

Bahar quickly gives Seren breastfeeding advice and tries to leave. Uras stops her. He’s sorry he didn’t have time to tell her about Timur’s place. He wants her to stay. She tells him that Seren and Efsun can handle everything. She has to leave. He can do whatever he wants. He asks, is it going to be like this from now on? This is how it will be, she replies. Bahar leaves and she’s very pleased with herself. She feels like a kid who skipped school.

Note at the proposal: Bahar is thrilled at the outcomes for all the women she helped. She takes it as a sign from the universe that her decisions were correct. When Evren says the universe is waiting for her to make another decision, it’s kind of a play on words. His name “Evren” is also a word meaning “universe”.

The proposal was the end of Turkish episode 39. I don’t want to go further because some scenes could be edited out of order for us. I’m not sure if we will see them tonight.

Bahar

Thank you for the cuts! What a lot of context we are not being given! I was also confused about the women with Evren, so thank you for that information! It was a nice gesture from Evren for Bahar to have these women included. It was a lovely proposal. It’s not something Timur should have seen, however, so too bad his spy provided it to ruin his evening.

Babachita

Wow, thank you Dondi!!! I didn’t realize who all the women were at the proposal. Also I’m glad Efren wasn’t out on dates.

I didn’t know the Turkish names had meaning! Imagine being named Universe.

Maggie

Bahar
Thanks Dondi. This edited episode seemed way less choppy and I didn't feel like a lot was lost. I'll continue with some comments on the edited version.

Bahar removes her jewelry and puts it in her locker. Has anyone noticed if they actually have locks on them? Seems they always just open them. I guess no jewelry in the OR, but she seems to be happy to take off the ring. Was it Doruk or Cem that gave her tickets to somewhere in her maiden name and mentioned next time her last name would be Yadir (or whatever Evren's last name is) which also seemed to make her upset. She has finally found herself and now she thinks she will lose her identity again.

Then in the OR Evren was really out of line trying to get her to stop after 8 hours. He did have a point, but she doesn't like this pressure from him. Looks like trouble in paradise already. I'm still shocked that Duruk and Ahu did the interviews. Wouldn't that be a full fledged Drs job. That new guy gets around. I thought they were replacing interns, but I guess actual full fledged doctors were brought in. So Yildirum does PT (that is usually a PT in charge of that) and assists in the OR. He's a regular jack of all trades in the hospital.

I'm sure you will clear the board deciding Bahar's fate. I forgot where that occurred in the episode but I think it was towards the end. The main "witnesses" testify about how Bahar is a good Dr. Rengin has admitted she was observing and advising during the delivery. (Another anachronism, there is only 1 OB in that entire huge hospital? ). They tell Bahar give them 5 minutes while they discuss the case as she is dismissed. Then suddenly she, Uras and Seren are on the panel as Efsun gives her "testimony". Were things cut there? It seemed strange that the board swelled by those who testified.

bahar

Thanks, Kat, for the review of what we saw on Telemundo.

There might be more of Bahar at her locker fiddling with the ring, but figuring out where the cuts fit is confusing at times. I want to make sure I’m not giving a spoiler.

Cem gave Bahar tickets to his play for her and the girls. Evren’s last name is Yalkin. ITA, Bahar was unsettled by that. But she doesn’t have to change her name. I don’t think Evren would insist but who knows. BTW, it used to be law that a woman had to take her husband’s name. It was only a year or two ago this was changed. I remember this from another dizi.

Doruk and Ahu were interviewing new assistant doctors (residents). IIRC, Ahu mentioned this, Timur told Doruk to help her. They were supposed to read the apps and do an initial interview and then pass the candidates to Timur for the final decisions. Lucky for Yildirim and the female candidate that Timur’s intervention saved them.

Yildirim wasn’t the person in charge of the PT. He was assisting there. But he’s got that very irritating take charge personality. Maybe that’s why he was assigned, to keep Bahar on track.

Ha, Rengin threw a curveball at Tugra. In the end she didn’t want to hurt Bahar, only Timur. And of course, she didn’t want anyone to find out she was the one who turned in Bahar.

There is another OB they refer to sometimes, Meral. But I don’t remember seeing her. So make that 2 OBs, lol... and one future OB, Bahar.

I could be wrong, but I thought Tugra called Efsun in after they all entered the board room to hear the verdict. He thought Efsun would have additional information to support his agenda.

bahar

Thanks again, dondi, for those very descriptive listings of what we missed thanks to Telemundo.

It was interesting to find out how Bahar's father was jealous of her success and intelligence. I was a bit confused about when he disappeared from Gul's and Bahar's lives, but it sounds like he was around long enough to denigrate her getting into medical school. Surprised Gul put up with him that long.

I am pleased with the Nevra transformation, mostly brought about by Gul being her friend and giving her good guidance.

I am glad, dondi, that you cleared up where Timur is living. It almost seemed like he'd moved back into the house now wholly owned by Bahar.

Viewerville surely held our collective breaths when Efsun testified in front of the medical board. She even lied, IIRC, saying she'd personally given Bahar permission to risk Seren's life by making sure the twins were saved.

Timur watches the marriage proposal from afar. And the very next day he's curt with Bahar and nasty with Evren. It looked like Timur and Evren were almost ready to take those scalpels to each other during that long surgery. But all of it was initiated by Timur's constant ragging on Evren because of his jealousy.

bahar

Just started watching the episode for Tuesday night. But I wanted to write something I thought last night. They did a time jump showing Bahar completing physical therapy and the twins coming home. Why does Bahar still have a bandage on her forehead?

Bahar

I missed the first third or so of this episode.
I feel bad for poor Cem because Timur is about to ruin the play thst Cem is so proud of and excited about.

Seren is so tired and crabby. So realistic!

Poor bummed-out Evren. I wonder if Bahar will actually decide against marrying.

bahar cuts #40

Surprisingly, there were not many cuts from last night’s episode. Nothing terribly important.

The new parents finally get their babies to sleep. Seren thinks Mert looks like her and Leyla looks like Uras. Uras is confused. He thinks he’s looking at Leyla but it’s Mert in the pink. Seren realizes she mixed up the baby clothes. Seren worries, we can’t even tell which baby is which. How will we be parents? [I think it’s easy to tell a boy from a girl. Neyse…]

Uras suggests they “make good use of time” while the babies sleep. He kisses her. She says she’s tired. He’s tired too, but he misses her. It doesn’t happen because Uras backs her up into a crib and the babies start to cry.

Oh no, Mert dirtied his diaper. Uras holds his nose and tries to get away. Seren makes him stay. She opens Mert’s diaper. Anyone who’s changed a baby boy’s diaper probably experienced something similar to this—Mert pees in his mom’s face. Leyla spits up on Uras.

Next day, the babies won’t stop crying. Efsun has one Seren the other. Efsun tells Seren she has an important business meeting later. Umay tries to help, too. Seren calls Uras at work and rips into him for not being there! Bahar arrives home to this chaos and tries to sneak up the stairs. Umay catches her. Bahar gives a quick lesson on how to hold and swaddle a baby. And then she hurries off, stating she’s tired after her shift. [she’s really trying hard not to get sucked into the main caregiver role.]

Seren comes to Bahar begging her not to leave her with her mother and the babies. [Not sure if Efsun has been staying there or if she just comes every day.] Bahar had promised her they would raise the babies together. Bahar tries to boost Seren’s mothering confidence.

Seren sees Bahar’s ring. She tries to talk Bahar out of getting married. Seren doesn’t want to lose her. Seren makes her case saying marriage changes people. She cites her own marriage. Bahar tells Seren she should try to sleep while the babies sleep. Bahar invites her to Cem’s play. She’ll call Gulcicek to stay with the babies. Seren leaves to take a nap, followed by a shower. Bahar takes off the ring.

Gulcicek sees Reha at his office. He very happy with Gul, but not happy with the way their relationship is going. He doesn’t want stolen moments with her and wants to tell Bahar. Gulcicek isn’t ready yet. She invites him to Bahar’s house. She’ll be there alone, babysitting tonight.

This brings us current on the cuts. Maybe about 2/3 of the way into #40.

Bahar

Once again thank you sooo much Dondi!!

Maggie

bahar

Thanks, dondi. I agree that so many scenes of new parents struggling were OK for Telemundo to cut.

Why can't these people just level with each other. Bahar wondered at Evren's unsmiling, newly cool demeanor. He could have told her what he overheard Cagla tell Tolga and they'd have had it out then and there.

I spent the last 15 minutes or so dreading Cem being arrested during his performance. Guess they're saving that one. I'm not sure if I remembered this correctly, but I have a sense that Evren knew about the video Timur had of Cem taking the bracelet. Didn't Timur already try to threaten him with it? In any case, I think Evren will know pretty soon how Cem was implicated. In any case, the bracelet went back to the, I think, trans performer.

If Timur sending the video is revealed, Umay will never want to be around him again.

They're definitely doing a redemption tour for Efsun.

Am I the only one who has a really hard time with Turkish names? Even after a character has been in 3 or 4 episodes, I keep having to go back to previous Caray pages to nail down the name. I really had a hard time with Efsun. These names are unlike anything in English and/or any of the romance languages, so they don't seem to stick for me.

Bahar

I haven't watched last night's Telemundo episode yet (watched the Turkish version though so I have visuals) but did want to comment. I agree, baby scenes can be cut. I've had plenty of those IRL, though my boys I think spared me the shower. I'm having a tough time with names also, especially when weird ones are thrown in. And the brothers Tugla and Tolga are really confusing me as to who is who. The new resident, the Y guy, I would need to refer back to get that one. Gülçiçek comes up as a suggestion on my phone if I get the first few letters correct so that helps. Same with most of the others, if I have a couple of the letters then they pop up and it saves me typing (actually using one finger on the phone, is that actually typing).

BAHAR

This was a great episode. As usual, the writing was terrific, particularly in the amazing blast of vitriol Timur directed at Bahar. She had said sometimes he’s a nice guy and sometimes he’s awful and he hit peak awfulness with that toxic brain dump. As we wind up this season, any ambiguity we might have felt about his being the bad guy has now evaporated, at least for me it has. Now we have the new Bahar and the vastly relieved Evren, a sweet scene. I wonder what he’s going to do about that job he accepted in the US.

Novelera – you said you had trouble remembering the Turkish names. Oddly enough, it’s the opposite for me. They’re so novel that they stick in my brain. With the Spanish TNs I have an awful time remembering everyone’s names because we cycle through the same names from show to show. These shows have huge casts and there’s no way not to have to re-use names over and over. The one name that bothers me in Bahar is her mom’s name because it’s hard to spell. I just call her Bahar’s mom!

bahar

The only thing cut last night was Evren going backstage to see Cem. Cem had a serious case of stage fright and wanted to bail. Of course, big bro calmed him down and Cem decided to stay. Then the cops came…

The babies are very cute but I don’t need to see everyone going into chaos mode over them. Sleep deprived Seren’s constant outbursts are too much for me. I think this is partly to show that Bahar is the only consistently confident and competent parent. She is struggling to be helpful, yet keep her distance. She’s finally realized the “kids” have to grow up in order for her to be free to be the new Bahar.

Timur, ah, Timur. Mehmet Yilmaz Ak was meant to play characters like this. Reminds me of Pars in Yargı/Secretos de Sangre. Telemundo viewers miss out on the full effect of his performance.

No spoilers, but I think Timur is foreshadowing big problems between Bahar and Evren. Everyone takes it as pure jealousy, but there may be some truth behind it. And remember the psychic told Bahar that the “universe” would betray her. And the fact that we have 3 seasons means no happy ending yet.

Instant redemption for Efsun. It’s going to take a while for me to accept it.

Turkish names are not a problem for me. Pronouncing them correctly is the problem. A lot of Turkish names have Arabic or Persian origins. If I forget a name, Spanish or Turkish or even English, it has more to do with my old brain than the language.
