Kara Para Ask – Black Money Love – Amor de Contrabando
Episode 58 #1
Lots of additional characters in this one. Here is how I handled them:
PONY-TAIL GUY: His name may be Rifat, but I call him Pony-Tail Guy, or PTG. He works in Rome for Metin. We saw him in Rome walking Elif through her first laundering, and he is also in this episode.
NEDIM: whose last name might be Turkan. He may be a crooked DA in some previous episodes. There was another crooked DA called Turgut, so I find this confusing. Nedim’s 6-year old daughter Dilara needs a transplant, heart, I think.
BANK MAN (BM): A henchie seen at the bank and later, receding hair, mustache, and beard.
DOCTOR: Name is Guvey or something similar, works for Tayyar.
CHARACTERS WITHOUT NAMES: I call bad guys “henchies,” as has become our custom in this blog. Good guys, including police officers, I call Team Members.
In Rome, Elif gets out of a van.
She is closely followed by a car with Sami and Omer. She is wired, so they can communicate with her. Sami tells her to stay calm. It’s time for her to enter the bank. Sami tells her to “look like a customer.” Omer tells her to keep her eye on Sami.
Omer: When Metin signs we’ll catch him and everything will be over.
Sami gives Omer a handgun and tells him to make the beam invisible.
Sami: And, Omer, don’t even think about it, OK?
Omer says there will be no need (for the gun). Everything will be fine, OK?
Sami puts on his cap and exits the car.
Elif reaches the bank. She is greeted by Nedim, who has been forced into acting like he works at the bank.
Nedim asks: Miss Elif?
She asks him where Metin is.
Nedim: I was told to welcome only you.
Elif: What are you talking about?
Nedim: Listen, this is all I know, please, do what you’re told for both of our sakes.
He leads her into the bank. They are greeted by Pony-Tail Guy (PTG) who I believe we saw at the airport. He welcomes her.
Elif: Metin is here, right?
PTM: Let’s wait a bit. Have a seat. She complies after spotting Sami over at the tellers’ station.
Omer is still in the car, thinking. He finally gets out and looks at the bank, sensing that something isn’t right. He paces back and forth.
Meanwhile, back at Tayyar’s place.
Tayyar is sitting at the table, being served what looks like breakfast while reading the paper. He asks if Mrs. Pinar is awake yet. The server says she is. They left her breakfast in her room.
Tayyar: Good, just let her rest. Be careful with her meals. Only give her what’s on the list.
Mert comes outside to join his father.
They greet each other.
Mert: You’re normally not at home this time of day.
Tayyar: I gave myself a day off. Today I’m using my laziness rights.
Mert laughs at this: Good for you!
Nilufer joins them: Good morning. I hope you’re enjoying your meal.
Mert rises as she approaches and Tayyar greets her: Good morning. Come my daughter, come sit down and have breakfast.
Nilufer: No, I had breakfast at home, Uncle Tayyar.
He offers her a drink. Mert pours her juice. Nilufer is glowing this morning!
Tayyar: It’s really good to see you. You know we got used to you being around here.
Mert agrees: It’s like we won the lottery this morning.

Episode 58 #2
Tayyar: I don’t want to lie, but I was really offended when you didn’t call and ask to speak to me about the whole situation. I missed you!
Nilufer: Uncle Tayyar, you know that we’re having problems at the house. My sisters and I can’t seem to agree on anything anymore.
Tayyar: I’m just joking. Now everything will be fine with time, daughter. You know people get offended by the ones they love. And one look at your beautiful face and all is forgotten straight away. Just to see you again, beautiful! She smiles along with Mert.
Nilufer: I actually came here to speak with Mert. I was going to ask if the boat offer is still valid.
Mert: What do you mean by valid? The boat is ours. We can go whenever we want to go, right Dad?
Tayyar: Certainly, sure.
Nilufer: Then we can go whenever Elif gets back.
Tayyar: Where is Elif?
Nilufer: Elif is in Rome, Uncle Tayyar.
Tayyar: Did she go to Rome on business?
Nilufer: You can’t really call it business. She’s there because of me. But she’ll be back tomorrow.
Tayyar: Tell me, what about you? Are you thinking of changing schools?
Nilufer: It’s a very long story, Uncle. I’ll tell you everything later.
Tayyar: Later, OK. Sorry my dear.
Nilufer: Then, what do you say?
Mert: We’re going to have so much fun.
Tayyar raises his eyebrows a bit and drinks more tea.
Back in Rome at the bank.
Elif is setting between the Nedim and Pony-Tail Guy in the bank.
PTG beckons her to follow him into an office. She walks past Sami and says carefully, so as not to be noticed: The person I’m waiting for is still not here. [Elif is getting quite good at this detective stuff, IMHO.]
She is shown into the office where she and PTG do the transaction. She speaks in Italian. She is asked to sign several papers. Metin is watching the transaction on video.
Omer is still pacing around outside. He calls Sami and asks if he can come in. Sami tells him not to do anything until he says so. Omer is concerned that they will be late.
Omer: If we want to catch these men, we have to be quick now.
Sami: I told you to wait, Omer.
Omer is getting very agitated, again sensing something isn’t right.
Elif comes out of the bank officer’s room and sees Sami, but no Metin.
She heads to the exit. Bank Man (BM) with little hair and a beard and mustache is following her with his eyes. Sami is outside walking toward the car. He gets in and Omer joins him. Sami removes his cap, scratches his head.
Omer: So, what happened? Why haven’t we caught them yet? Where was Metin? They made Elif launder the money. Metin is going to love this. If we follow Elif and the men, then we will catch him.
Sami: No, Omer, you are not thinking clearly about this because you love her. This is what I meant when I said emotional. Because of your feelings, you could ruin this entire operation.
Omer angrily: But you didn’t tell me that this operation would take this long. We promised Elif.
Sami: I never promised anything to anyone. You just speak for yourself, Omer, I’ve never said a thing, and Elif will continue working with us.
Omer: I won’t let you use Elif like that. I can’t let you do that.
Sami: Listen to me. I agreed with you about everything because I trusted you. Now I didn’t say anything when you and Elif started dating. It’ll tear us apart.
Omer gets out of the car: It’s better if I go with no one.
Elif exits the bank followed by Nedim and Pony Tail Guy. PTG gives her an envelope: This is your share. Metin thanks you.
Elif walks dejectedly away from the bank. A car drives up driven by Sami who tells her to get in.
Elif: Quickly, explain everything to me.
Sami: Calm down.
Elif: Calm down! How can I calm down? You haven’t done anything.
Sami: Metin wasn’t there.

Episode 58 #3
Elif: Metin wasn’t there, but his men were there. If we’ve caught his men, we can use them to catch Metin.
Sami: We can’t rush things like that, Elif. Maybe Metin is suspicious of us, of your relationship with Omer. He didn’t feel secure, but he will trust you again. Then we’ll try once more.
Elif: No! I will never do that again.
Sami: We’ll put a smile on your face and start from the beginning.
Elif: What?!!! Where is Omer? Does he know anything about this?
Metin’s two henchies, Nedim and Pony-Tail Guy, are walking in Rome. Nedim asks: Please leave me now. I’ve done what you asked me to do. I need to see my…
PTG: Be quiet. If you don’t, you’ll never see your daughter again.
Omer is following them.
Now we see Metin driving.
Meanwhile, Sami and Elif pick up one of the team in their car. Sami: Where is Omer?
Team Member: He just left without saying anything, Chief.
Sami (appearing to use obscenities in Turkish): Oh, my Goodness! Can’t he just listen to me for once, please!
Elif looks concerned: Tell me where are we going?
Sami: He’s doing what I told him not to do.
Nedim and PTG are still walking along the street; Omer is following them on the other side of the street. PTG gets a call. It’s Metin asking how things are going. PTG tells him it’s fine. Metin seems to be in a basement of an old stone building.
Metin: And Omer?
PTG: He’s behind us.
Metin: Bingo. Now you know what to do from now on, right?
PTG: I’ll lead the sheep.
Metin: Just don’t get caught! Otherwise, we’ll all be praying for you at your funeral in two days.
PTG: Don’t worry, OK? There’s no problem here.
Metin hangs up and sits down, saying to himself: Come on, my Lions, bring me this sheep, officer Omer.
Omer is still walking on the street.
Sami and Elif drive up to a hotel. Sami tells Elif she should go and rest for a bit. Their plane will leave at 7:00.
Elif: What’ll happen to Omer? What if something happens to him?
Sami: Look, we’ll take care of that Elif. That’s our job. Don’t worry about it.
Elif looks unconvinced but tired and gets out of the car.
Meanwhile, the Lions (Nedim and PTG) are now on a street with a wall covered in colorful artwork of famous people. It looks like a less-desirable part of town. Omer is still following, or more accurately, he is being led. Metin is waiting. The Lions lead Omer to a building down a staircase, partially underground. Once inside, they go upstairs to an apartment with a red door. PTG pulls a gun on Nedim (who appears nervous), encouraging him to be quiet. Omer gets to the red door and looks around. He seems to sense that it would be dangerous to enter alone, and he is right, as PTG is watching him approach the door and has his gun drawn. Omer goes back downstairs without entering.
Metin is still waiting in his basement apartment, and the round-headed guy with beard from the bank (BM) arrives. He opens a briefcase full of printouts. He says he made the “change” and brought it.
BM: These are the certificates.
Underneath the paperwork are diamonds. Metin smiles at the diamonds. Perhaps the “change” was the diamonds instead of only cash.
BM: Where are the guys?
Metin: They are hunting.
Elif, in her hotel room, tries to call Omer, but he doesn’t answer. She is very stressed.

Episode 58 #4
In Tayyar’s organ harvesting lab [Yuck!]. It looks like a Quonset hut with curved side/roof. [I thought it might be a basement of one of his hospitals, but it’s hard to tell. It looks temporary, sort of like the field hospital from M.A.S.H.] They have quite a medical set-up. Oxygen is delivered. The doctor asks for two lamps.
Tayyar arrives.
Tayyar: Are there any missing parts, doctor?
Doctor: Not for now, Mr. Tayyar. Everything will be ready for the surgery. Just the kids. Donor is OK. He’s really healthy. He’s a refugee, doesn’t have a family.
Tayyar: And the girl who’s receiving the organ?
Doctor: She’s in a stable condition. Everything is under control, but her father is not here yet. He’s lost. I don’t understand how Mr. Nedim let his daughter go without him.
Tayyar: He could be frightened. He paid the money. He probably thinks it’s all over. Some of the fathers aren’t as sensitive as you. [I’m thinking the operating doctor may have gotten organ/s for a family member and is now paying for it by making transplants. Or maybe Tayyar paid for medical school for him.] I feel that you should understand that sensitivity.
Doctor: I hope he’ll come to see his daughter after the surgery.
Tayyar: I’m sure he will. I hope he does. How long will this take?
Doctor: I plan to do both surgeries in five hours total.
Tayyar: Good, good. That’s fine.
Back in Rome, it’s nighttime. We see Omer watching the apartment with the red door from an alcove by the sidewalk. He sees that lights are on in the apartment. He looks all around. He looks exhausted. He calls Sami. Elif is also there with Sami.
Sami: I’m waiting for you to tell me that you’re on your way back.
Omer: I’m not coming back, Sami. I’m in front of the building. The men are inside.
Sami: Look here, Omer. Our operation is over. Come back immediately.
Omer: It’s not over yet. Metin could be inside. Let me go in there.
Sami: You listen to me. You do not have permission to enter the apartment. Come back here. That is an order. No questions.
Omer starts walking back but stops. He continues to watch the door to the building.
Sami and Elif are waiting in their place.
Elif: Is it going to be like you said it would be? Will he definitely come back here?
Sami: Yeah, he will.
Elif: Then where is he?
Sami: Elif, go to your room and get some rest. It’s important to rest before a plane trip.
She sighs and heads to the door.
As she opens it, one of the Team enters. She leaves and closes the door. A few seconds later, she stealthily opens it again.
Team member to Sami: The Italian cop called. I told him that Omer is in a part of Rome (I didn’t get the name, but it started with an M.) Apt 29. Elif hears this and leaves. [I’m guessing, not to go back to her hotel room.]
Team member continues: The Italians said that they can send a backup team to Omer. What do you want me to say?
Sami: There’s no need for backup now. We’ll call them if we need anything.
Elif gets into her VW convertible and drives off.
Tayyar is getting dressed, asking a henchie if there is any news from Rome.
Henchie: Everything is going fine. We’ve spoken with the bank. The money’s been transferred. Metin has the diamonds.
Tayyar: When will Metin return?
Henchie: Tomorrow.
Tayyar: Congratulations. He managed to do it so easily.
Elif walks along the sidewalk and runs into Omer. She pretends not to know him (in case someone is watching): Would you like a coffee, officer?
Omer pulls her into the alcove: What are you doing here?
Elif: I came here to help you.
Omer: Please stop playing games. Go back to the hotel.

Episode 58 #5
Elif: You owe me an explanation.
Omer: Look, we’ll talk later.
Elif: No, Omer, what we have to speak about is very important. It can’t wait. We saw it today. You knew Metin wasn’t going to be caught and you deceived me, Omer.
Omer: I didn’t know anything. Trust me. I wanted to go back to the bank and finish this, but Sami wouldn’t let me do that. I don’t have authorization. I’m suspended, Elif. He’ll push me out of the operation if I don’t listen to him. (Elif makes a disapproving gesture.) I can’t keep putting you in danger. How did you manage to find me?
Elif: I learned from the best. I’m very good at sleuthing.
There is a sound of a gate opening and they both look alarmed.
Elif: What’s that noise?
Omer: Elif, go, please go back.
Elif: Where are you going?
Omer: Just go!
She watches him enter the building and turns to follow him. He pulls his gun and goes back up the stairs toward the red door. Elif stays at the alcove until she hears two gunshots. She runs after him. The red door is open. She enters the apartment. [Of course the door squeaks ominously.]
Elif: Omer!
She finds Omer trying to stanch the gunshot wound/s of Nedim.
Elif: Are you OK?
Omer: I’m fine. What are you doing here?
Nedim: Help me, please help me.
Omer: Some guy shot him and ran away. Call Sami and tell him to come here now. OK, Keep calm (to Nedim). Just breathe.
Nedim is in lots of pain and cries out.
Metin looks at the certificates, packing the briefcase. He leaves.
Metin asks Bank Man (who is in the hall): Is there any news?
BM: Rifat called. Our officer is following him. He told us that he will be able to escape soon.
Metin: The best news of the day. Come on, we’re going.
BM: Where are we going to?
Metin: Whilst officer Omer chats in a dim [hallway, perhaps?], we’ll fly to Istanbul.
BM: How come? Weren’t we supposed to fly to Madrid?
Metin: The plan has changed. There was a little misunderstanding between me and my wife. She didn’t come. I’ll go and fetch her first, then we’ll go to Madrid.
The two of them enter an elevator.
Back at the scene of the shooting:
Omer: Swap places (applying pressure to the wound) so I can check outside.
Elif: Omer, I don’t know how to do this. I can’t do this.
Omer: Elif, you can. Come here.
Elif (in a panic): I can’t do it, Omer!
Omer: Don’t be stupid, Elif. You can do it.
He takes her hand and shows her how to push down, while she is protesting.
Omer: Just breathe.
She complies and he goes outside to see what’s going on. He is carrying his handgun and looking for his backup.
Elif is doing a good job of applying pressure to Nedim’s wound. She asks him if he’s OK.
Nedim: I’m not from their team, Ma’am. I’m not a bad person. I had to do it. They have my daughter.
Elif: Your daughter?
Nedim: I haven’t done anything wrong. I’m not guilty. They’re going to kill my daughter.
Elif: Sir, please calm down. What are you doing?
Babachita
Episode 58 #6
Nedim: That man tried to help my daughter. That Mehmet. [I wonder if Mehmet is Metin, Pony-Tail Man or someone else.]
Nedim continues: He was going to save her. Then they threatened me. They took my money from me; they brought me here by force. I begged them, but they shot me. Help me, please help me. Please don’t let me die.
Elif tells him to hold the cloth and apply pressure. She says she will be back immediately. She tells him just to calm down. She gets a water bottle and gives him some. He is panicking at his injury. Elif tries to calm him telling him she’ll keep applying pressure.
Elif: Try and think about something else, OK? He nods. What’s your daughter called?
Nadim: Dilara.
Elif: Dilara. How old is she?
Nadim: Six years old.
Elif: Sir, you’re going to have to be strong. Be brave. Your daughter needs you. I promise you, they’ll help you. Don’t be scared, OK?
He continues to groan in pain.
Sami arrives and he and Omer enter. Sami asks where Elif is.
Omer: Sami, Metin’s man shot that guy, he’s injured, we need to get an ambulance. We need to get him away from here now.
Sami: You go back to Elif. I’m calling Pietro now.
Omer goes back to Elif and Nedim.
In Istanbul at the Denizer mansion.
Asli exits the front door in the evening. She walks briskly toward the elevator, just in time to meet Nilufer arriving in the elevator.
Asli: At last! Where were you, Nilufer?
Nilufer: I had things to do.
Asli: What were you doing?
Nilufer: I went to Uncle Tayyar’s. I had something to talk to Mert about.
Asli: You should have told me. You’ve been gone for hours. I was really worried. Elif is also not back.
Nilufer: Asli, do I have a phone?
Asli: So, do you know where she is and when she’ll be back? You don’t? I’m not comfortable with this at all. I’m going to the police station.
Nilufer: Asli, wait a moment. Don’t be silly. Can you please stop? Obviously, I don’t know when she’ll be back. If Elif were in danger, she wouldn’t tell us to calm down. It’s not good to create a crisis now, both for us and for Elif. Let’s go inside and try and calm down. Come on.
Hulya comes outside: Miss Nilufer, you have a phone call.
Nilufer: Who is it?
Hulya: A lady, but I couldn’t understand what she was saying. I think there was a problem.
Nilufer: OK, thanks.
Asli: We will wait. I’m going in.
Nilufer answers the phone.
Nevin: Nilufer, Good day, it’s Nevin. Fatih called. You didn’t go to the meeting point.
Nilufer: I spoke with Fatih.
Nevin: He asked me to call you to come home. He’ll take us from here. I’m ready and waiting, so don’t be late, OK? (Nevin looks out her window and sees two men waiting.)
Elif: Miss Nevin, I won’t be able to come. Don’t wait for me.
Nevin: But Fatih told me…
Nilufer: I don’t care what Fatih told you. I’ll not be there. Tell Fatih that this is all over.
She hangs up.
Back in Rome
The medic tells Elif the bullet passed through Nedim. He will be OK for now, but he has to go to a hospital when he gets to Türkiye.
Sami asks Nedim if he has his passport. Nedim says he does. Omer asks for it, and Nedim indicates it is in his back pocket. Sami gets it.
Omer: So, what were you doing here? How do you know Metin? Why have they shot you?
Nedin: They have my daughter. They threatened me. They told me that I have to do what they tell me to do. That guy shot me. I don’t know why.
Babachita
Episode 58 #7
Sami: Do you have any idea where your daughter is now?
Nedim: I can’t tell you. They told me that my daughter will die if I tell the police. I’ll do anything else you want, but don’t ask anything about my daughter.
Sami: Let’s go to Istanbul first and we can talk there.
Elif and Omer get their things and leave. Sami and the medic stay with Nedim.
Omer: What did he say to you when I wasn’t there?
Elif: He has a daughter, 6 years old, her name’s Dilara. Metin is holding her now. But he didn’t tell me the reason. The guy’s really scared. I have to believe him, Omer. Don’t you believe him?
Omer: The visa and passport are new and there’s no other entry.
Elif: Meaning? What happened Omer? Why did they shoot this guy and then escape?
Omer: Metin wanted us to find this guy. He made this man bait for us. Metin has known about this operation from the very beginning. That’s why he didn’t come. Wasn’t he the one who welcomed you the last time you came to Rome?
Elif nods yes.
Omer: But now he isn’t around. He hasn’t put men around. Why? Because he knew that you’d be going to the police.
Elif: How did he know that?
Omer: Well, there might have been a bug.
Elif: Mr. Sami looked everywhere for a bug.
Omer: They most probably attached it after we searched, maybe in your wallet, maybe in your bag. They may have even put it in your shoe.
Omer: After they left the bank, they knew that I would follow them. They shot Nedim so he wouldn’t escape. If they’d really wanted to kill him, they’d have shot him in the head. It’s obvious Metin wanted us to find him. Now it looks like Metin doesn’t have a close relationship with the person at the top, so he wants us to find him.
Elif: How can we find out? Nedim is really scared. I’m guessing he won’t say anything.
Omer: Yeah, leave that part to me.
He touches her shoulder: How are you doing?
Elif: I don’t know.
Omer: Elif, why are you following me? What if something happened to you?
Elif: I was so afraid for you, Omer.
He strokes her head lovingly.
Omer: That makes me happy. You’re very brave, Signorina.
Elif: Come on, you only realize that now?
They nuzzle each other and smile. Omer says he can hardly stop himself from hugging and kissing her. He pulls away with a sigh.
Omer: Sami is upstairs. Let’s not let him see us. Let’s get back to work. Let’s find out who this Nedin Turkan (Tashan, Turgut?) is. [If it’s the DA, wouldn’t Omer know him?]
Elif: Will we be able to catch Metin?
Omer nods but doesn’t answer and checks his phone.
Arda walks into the police station where Pelin is working with box of chocolates for Pelin.
Pelin: What is this? Where did it come from?
Arda: I bought it for you. Dark and bitter, your favorite. You like the bitter of everything as well as in chocolate.
Pelin: There’s no need for this. It’s not my birthday. It’s not my anniversary of being a cop. Why did you buy this for me? There’s nothing to celebrate.
Arda: We have us! A police story: Arda and Pelin.
Pelin: I don’t believe in stories with that much intrigue. Thank you.
Arda (maintaining his good mood in spite of her attitude): Can we have an explanation for this intrigue issue?
Pelin’s gets a message: Pelo, I need a favor. Can you find out about Nedin Turkan and his daughter Dilara Turkan, but it has to stay between us?
Pelin gives a worried glance at Arda when a policeman tells him he has a call about a murder that they need to respond to. Arda says they are coming and assumes Pelin will accompany him. She begs off so she can do Omer’s request.
Arda: What do you mean you’re not coming? This is our job. Are we not partners?
Pelin: You are really reactive. Oh, my goodness. I’ve been asked to search for someone and I’ll do it now before I forget.
Arda: Who are you searching for?
Pelin: Do you need to know everything?

Episode 58 #8
Arda: Yes, because we’re close to each other and shouldn’t hide anything.
Arda reaches for her note pad. She grabs it back: Arda! Oh my goodness! Leave me alone. I need to work. Get going and have a nice day.
He gives her an uncertain nod and heads out of the office.
Pelin starts searching for the Turkans in her database.
At the airport, Metin is in a parking garage carrying a briefcase. He asks his henchie if there is any info on Nilufer. He says they are watching her as he ordered: She’s left the house just once since you left and it was to go to Mr. Tayyar’s house and then she came back.
Henchie puts briefcase in the car and Metin drives off.
In an Istanbul hospital we find Nedim in the bed visited by Omer and Elif.
Omer: We are going now. Don’t go anywhere without letting us know first.
Nedim: Am I under arrest?
Omer: You are until you tell us everything.
Elif: Get well soon.
Nedim: Thank you.
Omer gives him a long look as they leave.
Outside in the hall, Omer tells Elif she looks tired and should go home. She says she won’t go anywhere until he tells her the story of Nedim. Omer says she will be the first to know as soon as he finds out.
Omer: Don’t be stubborn.
Elif: Omer, I won’t be able to rest if I go home. My mind’s going to be here.
Omer: OK, then.
Elif: We go to Rome and look what happens. Everything’s getting more and more complicated. The operation should have happened quickly. We should have caught Metin, Metin and all of his guys, and then they would have been out of our lives by now. We haven’t managed any of this and again I’ve committed a crime. What am I going to do, Omer? What’s going to happen now?
He gives her a long look and pulls her close: It’s not the right time to think about all of that. OK? Come on, let’s get cleaned up. He walks her down the hall.
One of the Team comes in, Adnan. Omer tells him: They’re taking the man out. Keep an eye on him.
Adnan: Don’t worry.
Elif is in the hospital bathroom. She notices blood on her neck and hands as she tries to clean up. She cries and uses rough strokes to try and get it all off.
Omer comes into the bathroom: Elif, what’s the matter?
She hugs him, crying: I’m not…
Omer: Hey, it’s over.
Elif: No, it’s not over.
Omer (lovingly stroking her hair): OK, you’re right. Come here.
He cleans her hands gently.
He strokes her lovingly: Elif, I promise that I will get you and your family out of this mess. Just trust me, OK?
They hug each other.
End of Episode 58.
Babachita
Thanks Babachita, for a wonderful recap!
It's been a long day of work for me so I'm extra tired today! It was an interesting and intriguing episode....with a lot to follow so the recap helps A LOT!! Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow! Not surprised that Metin didn't show of course, but disappointed that Sami didn't let them act on plan B, I thought he had an action plan for plan B....it was kind of pointless to do nothing!
First, belated thanks to Darcy for last Sunday's fine recap. The "Roman Holiday" episodes were a highlight of this dizi and I'm glad we all got a piece of it to recap. Engin and Tuba are so natural together. I can understand why people began to think they were a couple in real life.
Another great recap, Babachita. Thanks!
I'm also confused about Nedim. I can't remember how he got caught up with Tayyar. I didn't have time to go back and check that. So I'm just going to go with he was a desperate father looking for a cure for his daughter. ITA, Darcy, Sami's a bit of a disappointment, but Omer presented some problems for him.
Recap coming soon.
#59 part 1
Nevin tells Fatih that Nilufer said it’s over and hung up on her. He says it’s alright. She asks if he broke up with Nilu. Things like this happen between couples, he replies. He changes the subject. I found a wonderful place for you to stay in Madrid. No one will find you there. Wait for my call. Don’t call me or anyone else. She’s worried Tayyar will find him and kill him. He tells her Tayyar isn’t a problem anymore. He’s going to jail. We will be free and rich. And I’ll bring Nilu. Nevin cries. She wants him to stay.
Pelin leaves the station in her car and Arda follows her.
Omer brings Elif simit and tea. She says she’s not hungry. He convinces her and she takes a piece of simit. He gives her the tea with 2 sugars. Elif is about to eat the simit and Omer stops her. He proceeds to show her the correct way to eat simit. The simit needs to meet the cream cheese. Simit, cream cheese, tea. These three are blood related, never to be separated. He dips the simit into the cheese and puts it to her mouth. She can do it herself. But he wants to feed her.
Elif says, sometimes I think all you want to eat is simit, cream cheese and tea. Omer says he would, but his mother wouldn’t let him. Omer tells her, I find out something new about you every day. You are messy when you eat. She complains and he says he was joking. He just wanted to see her laugh. Sadness doesn’t suit your eyes, signorina.
Pelin shows up at the hospital and tells Elmer that Nedim’s daughter has a genetic heart condition, and she’s been on the heart transplant list for a long time. Omer rushes in to see Nedim. Pelin asks Elif if she’s back with Omer. Arda shows up. Pelin is ticked that he followed her. Arda asks Elif, what’s going on? We don’t get an immediate answer.
Omer questions Nedim. Nedim appeals to his doctor that he’s still not feeling well and wants Omer to leave. Omer continues anyway—has Metin found you a heart illegally? Talk! Omer questions the doctor, are there any illegal transplants done in Turkish hospitals? Doc says it’s not possible. They keep strict records and there’s a long waiting list. Omer notes that the situation can change if one has money. The transplant can be done illegally. It can be done outside of a hospital.
The doc says that could be done but it is very risky. The chance of survival is very small. It’s either suicide or murder. Nedim becomes very upset. Omer tells him do you understand the risk you took? You seem to be a good man. I’m sure your daughter’s life is more precious than your own. We saw you risk your own life, but a good father shouldn’t take such a risk. Where is she? Let’s find her and bring her here before the surgery. We’ll do this legally.
Nedim blurts, do you think I haven’t tried? She’s been waiting for 4 years and she’s getting worse every day. There’s no time left. I’m not a rich man. I sold my house, I’d give my life. She’s so young, he cries, she’s been in the hospital since the day she was born. Omer says, I’m giving you this opportunity to do the right thing for your daughter. She might die if she gets surgery through the black market. Do you want her to die?!
#59 part 2
Elif explains to Arda and Pelin what happened in Rome. It was to clear her name. She worries that Sami and Omer will be angry she told them. Arda says it’s okay, they just want to help. Pelin says Omer wouldn’t like this. Do you know Sami’s reputation? He’s from the organized crime unit. Omer needs Sami. He has authority. Omer walks into the middle of this convo. Elif asks him not to get angry but she explained everything to Pelin and Arda. Pelin and Arda assure Omer they won’t tell anyone. Omer says okay then, I’ll need your help.
Fatih meets Tayyar at his boat on the sea. Tayyar tells him he’s celebrating. Congratulations, I’m drinking to celebrate your actions. You did a great job. Where are my diamonds? Fatih says they are in the safe as usual. Tayyar is very pleased with Fatih. Fatih puts it in perspective and says there are good days and bad days. You can’t win all the time. Tayyar wags his finger. I always win. You must win every time.
Fatih asks permission to speak openly. Sometimes we want to kill each other. I got angry because you treated me badly. Well, well, Tayyar says, what does Matin keep hidden in himself? I have feelings, Fatih replies, I’m human. This doesn’t change even if you’re related, like flesh and nail, even if you’re father and son. It’s the same even if you’re strangers. People should try to understand each other.
Do you know the real problem, Tayyar says, people should know their place. We are not here to be friends or understand each other. We are here to do business. Don’t forget that and don’t look for anything else, or you’ll drown.
Fatih says, I don’t forget, I know my place. I came here to thank you. You’ve never let go of my hand. You showed me in your own way. You’ve been like a father. If I’m standing on my own feet, it’s thanks to you. I hope I’ve managed to be worthy of you. Tayyar senses Fatih has been trying to tell him something. No, Fatih replies, I just became emotional, otherwise everything is as you want it. I’m fine. I hope so, Tayyar answers. Before leaving Fatih asks if Tayyar has a last request. Tayyar says he’ll call.
Elif lets Sami know she told Pelin and Arda everything. Sami is frustrated. I can’t work like this, he says, if I say something is white, you say black. You changed the things I did for you. This is your fault. Elif retorts, and the promises you made to me were not kept. Omer intervenes, I found out something very important, we need to go now.
Melike calls Fatma to see if she needs anything. You’re a shameless woman, Fatma seethes, why are you calling this house? How unconscionable. Melike cries, I wanted you to know that I’m very sorry. Shut up, I don’t want to hear from you, Fatma fires back and hangs up. Huseyin hears. I told you not to call her. Why did you call? I couldn’t sleep, Melike says, I kept thinking about them. He tells Melike to eat something, watch TV, a woman’s program, a cooking program, dance, call the neighbors and gossip. Do anything, but don’t think about them anymore.
Omer is convinced that Tayyar is behind this latest development. He’s got hospitals all over Turkey and they all have facilities for transplants. Most of the students he gives scholarships to are medical students. Then afterwards they have to work for him. Elif explains that Tayyar’s foundation doesn’t just give scholarships to medical students. And he’s received international awards and attends international conferences. If something like this was happening, wouldn’t anyone noticed by now?
#59 part 3
Sami wants to drop off Elif so she can go home. She insists on going with them. Sami snarks, I see you like action, we can take you to the police academy, but graduation is still a long time away. Arda pulls over. Omer says that Sami is right. Omer helps her out of the car. She tells him to be careful.
Huseyin meets with Tayyar and Ali. Ali says if you called us about Omer, the formal procedure is almost done. The commissioner has the application. Tayyar tells Huseyin that the surgery has started and you will guard the building. Huseyin asks, who are you killing now?
What’s wrong, Tayyar replies, you’ve never been uncomfortable with this until today. You’ve suddenly become honorable. Stop it. You’re angry with me, but mine is a sacred duty. A little girl’s life will be saved. And an orphaned child will lose hers, Huseyin answers. This is trading, Tayyar explains, trading is what life is about. Someone gives and someone takes. Huseyin is about to explode, maybe attack Tayyar. Ali calms him. Huseyin leaves the van. Ali assures Tayyar that they will take care of this.
Elif returns home and it’s an awkward welcome from her sisters. Asli calls her Mata Hari and demands to know what happened from the beginning. Elif doesn’t want to have this conversation now. Asli storms off. Nilufer asks if they can talk alone for a little bit. Elif says later.
Elif goes to her room and thinks back to her conversation with Omer about being bugged. Omer thought a bug could have been placed in her bag or shoe. Elif searches through all her bags. Bingo. Nilu enters the room and confesses, I put it in your bag. Metin gave it to me. I went to your office and put it there. Elif exclaims, what did you do?! Nilu cries and begs forgiveness. Elif pulls away from her sister.
Our team is on the way to stop the transplant. Omer worries that it’s too late. Sami says the ambulance is on its way. Pelin says we’re almost there.
How could you have done this, Elif asks Nilu. Everything was difficult, Nilu replies, I couldn’t accept dad’s death. I felt so alone. Elif answers, alone? How could anyone feel alone in this house? We were taking care of you all the time! You had everything you wanted. How could you feel alone. Nilu explains, mom, Asli, you… you were all dealing with your own issues. I got angry at all of you. I thought none of you were hurting like me.
Mom lost her husband who was murdered, Elif replies, Asli and I lost our father, the same as you. We were heartbroken like you. And yet, I was also trying to help you. I didn’t know, Nilu cries. I tried to explain it to you so many times, Elif says, you should have listened and believed me instead of falling in love with that crazy man. Metin was good to me, Nilu explains, he was different from the other bad guys. He supported me. I felt everything was possible, like I could fly. I loved him so much.
Elif asks Nilu to leave her room. Nilu cries, haven’t you ever fallen in love? Haven’t you had a moment when you listened to your heart? Elif snaps back, you cannot compare Metin and Omer, don’t you dare do that! Get out of my room! You’re right to be angry with me, Nilu says, but I need to tell you something else. Nilu takes a breath and says, I became Metin’s wife because I loved him so much. Elif is stunned. You married that man?
#59 part 4
Looks like Fatih is at the transplant site, too, waiting for the cops to raid the place.
The transplant is about to start. Dilara starts crying for her mother and father. They sedate her.
Elif blows up at Nilu. Are you crazy? As far as I know, a religious marriage is not official. It’s not legal. Nilu explains they just wanted to have a bond between us. He wouldn’t be able to give me his last name, that’s why I did this. Elif responds, and you don’t even know his last name, do you?
Nilu admits she doesn’t know. Right, Elif says, he can’t even tell you. Is this your idea of real love? He can’t tell the truth to the woman he married? He’s a liar, a killer who plays with people’s lives. Enough, Nilu shouts, I can’t listen anymore. I fell in love and got married. I can’t believe what you’ve done, Elif replies. Nilu says, I don’t know his last name, but I know his name. His real name if Fatih.
Our team arrives just in time to stop the transplant. [what happened to Huseyin supposedly guarding the place?] Fatih is watching. The girls are put in an ambulance. The medical team is taken. The doctor claims he didn’t perform surgery. What about your Hippocratic Oath, Omer asks. The doc says he can explain everything. How will you explain you were going to kill two little girls, Omer shouts. Sami steps in and says to take the doc to the station.
Omer is frustrated because he’s suspended and can’t do anything else in the investigation. Sami asks Omer to come with him.
Tayyar tries to get romantic with Pinar. She’s disgusted but he’s going to continue whether she wants to or not. But there’s a knock at the door. Tayyar is told it’s very important. It’s bad news. The transplant was raided, and the doctor was arrested.
Dilara is reunited with her parents. Omer and Sami are present. The doc tells the parents that Dilara is sleeping because of the anesthetic but there is nothing they can do about her heart. Sami says if they didn’t intervene, the girl would be dead. That place was disgusting. Nedim thanks them. The mother rushes over to Omer. Maybe she was going to kiss his hand. Omer lifts her up saying, he was just doing his job.
Omer goes to see the orphan girl. The nurse tells him she’s doing fine. She was lucky, she would have died. Omer says CPS is coming and hopefully they can find family.
Sami asks an officer to take Nedim to the station for questioning.
Elif shows up at the hospital. Sami quips, you two can’t even stay away from each other for one night. Omer replies, you know how I feel about her. Sami backs off and takes off.
Elif hands Omer the bug and tells him Nilufer was the one who placed it in her bag. Metin asked her to do it. She’s so in love with him so she did it. Omer says Nilu is lucky to have a sister like her. Nilu will get over this. Elif tells Omer that Metin’s real name is Fatih but she doesn’t know his last name.
Nilu takes off her diamond ring. She starts to take off the amulet. She remembers Fatih’s words when he gave it to her: “I have the same one. I hope this will protect you and protect our love. I’ll never feel alone if you never take this off. It would be like taking me out of your heart.” Nilu doesn’t take it off. We see Fatih lurking across the street from the Denizer house.
#59 part 5
Omer is on the phone talking to Pelin about identifying the guy from the Rome operation [I think]. Elif made a sketch of the guy.
Meanwhile, Elif gets a call from Fatih. Hello partner. What do you want, Elif asks. I called to say goodbye, Fatih replies, I should call you ex-partner. We’re just relatives now. Also tell Nilufer that I was just a victim, I never had a choice. Please tell her that.
Elif asks for an explanation. What happened in Rome? Forget it, he says, let it go. I don’t have any idea of what’s happening with you, Elif replies, but please try to help us. Let’s meet and talk about everything. She asks, is Tayyar Dundar involved in all of this? Fatih answers, Komiser Omer will solve everything. I’m only concerned about one thing, that’s Nilufer. I’ve upset her and I’m very sorry for that. But I really fell in love with her. I know I’m going to lose her but I’m truly in love with your sister. Okay, Elif says, let’s meet and talk and find a solution. Fatih hangs up.
Omer asks Elif what happened. Metin called, she replies, he wanted to say goodbye. He said our partnership is over. How can we catch him? He’s obsessed with Nilufer. How can I protect her? Omer tells her not to panic. You’re tired and angry. Go home. Take care of Nilufer and I’ll keep you informed.
Omer asks another officer to take Elif home. Say good night, she tells Omer. Omer pulls her into a hug and says, never leave me. Stay by my side forever. Let my hand stay in yours. The scent of your breath is my breath. But life does not allow it, signorina. We are here now, she replies, just close your eyes and let’s stay like this for a moment. Omer laughs, if you stay like this any longer, I won’t let you leave. Go, he is waiting. Good night.
And we are out.
Great summary, Dondi! It was such a relief when they stopped the transplant in time. I’m sorry for Nedim’s daughter, but this was preferable to murder. What a creepy criminal activity. Ironic too as Tayyar’s foundation is considered lifesaving. Nay, not so!
It was entertaining to watch Tayyar slowly realize Fatih was acting weird. He was saying goodbye. But it will take longer than this, if Fatih ever gets away.
Such a lot of planning and effort by Sami’s team, but they haven’t caught the big fish. Maybe someone will talk? Nedim, the doctor? Too early in the dizi is my opinion.
Thanks again!
Babachita
Thanks, Dondi! Fascinating episode!
It's really interesting to me, because in most shows when you have a storyline like this the character of Nilufer is a lot less sympathetic - the little sister who is whinny or selfish or whatever - but I've said since the very beginning that I found it sad how the whole family just left Nil alone almost immediately when she came home from the kidnapping. Elif doesn't see it, but I think it's a blind spot for Elif, not saying it justifies Nil siding with the kidnapper of course, but it definitely makes for a more interesting and complex story and character.
It'll be interesting to see where we go next and how Tayyar gets out of this, I'm assuming he will just because like Babachita says it's too early for him to fall....I haven't watched ahead at all. Haven't even watched tomorrow's episode yet which I will be recapping and posting sometime tomorrow afternoon/evening.
Thanks! :) I totally missed the Al vs El and I copy and paste it every week so I never would have caught it. I appreciate you! :)
Tayyar yells at Huseyin for abandoning his post and not being there when the surgery was raided but Huseyin says he couldn’t stay there 24/7. It’s Huseyin’s turn to be shocked when he finds out that Omer had a part in the raid on the operation and he doesn’t understand how that’s possible when Omer is suspended, but Tayyar rants right past that wondering how in the world they found out about the surgery in the first place! It’s once again Tayyar’s turn to be dumbfounded when it’s mentioned that Nedim had just come back from Rome – Tayyar wonders if Omer too has just returned from Rome and he accuses Huseyin of falling asleep on the job. Huseyin replies that Tayyar also fell asleep on the job and points out that it looks as if Tayyar’s own men have ruined this operation.
Omer and Sami are driving and discussing Metin/Fatih and whether or not this new development and his claim to be truly in love with Nilufer could be valid – they reach no conclusions but acknowledge that Elif and her sisters are powerful motivators. Sami stops at the house of the police Director and tells Omer to wait in the car – when he goes to knock on the door, he tells the guy he’s there to talk to him about Omer.
Tayyar goes to his office and asks one of his guys if he’s been able to track Fatih or his mom. Dude informs the boss that there’s no trace of either one of them. Tayyar storms into the office remembering Fatih’s words about having put the diamonds in the safe as always, he checks the safe, it’s empty. Tayyar rages, you’re dead, Metin, he proclaims for the 500th time or so. Somehow, I doubt it.
Sami comes out and wants to go to the station and Omer immediately complains that he can’t so he’ll just go home…. but oh wait, he can!!! Sami has gotten him reinstated!! But not to Huseyin’s team! He’s been reassigned to Sami’s organized crimes unit! He’s going to still get some slap on the wrist for assaulting a superior but they are off to interrogate the Doctor.
Elif is in bed and Nilufer comes to ask if she can sleep in her bed, after a tense second Elif tells her to come and they snuggle. Nil tells her she loves her and she’s so sorry. Elf loves her too. Nil tells Elif she knows Asli isn’t pregnant because Behar told her and she’s worried about how Asli will take it when she finds out because she’s so excited about it, Elif says leave it to me, I’ll tell her.
Omer and Sami show up at the station and there’s a group meeting about the case which includes Huseyin, Pelin and Arda. Everyone is surprised to see Omer but Pelin and Arda are happy and friendly while Huseyin in tense and quiet. A man comes in with sugarless tea for Sami per his wife because he says that she says his blood sugar is high, but Sami says not to talk about wives or blood sugar at work. They move on to the case and talk about how they have been working on these case for years in the organized crime unit but haven’t been able to find the leader. Pelin says the doctor is associated with Tayyar but he’s also associated with multiple other hospitals. It’s decided that Omer and Sami will interrogate the doctor and everyone else will keep working. The meeting breaks up and Omer goes after Huseyin to see if he’s angry that he wasn’t given the heads up that Omer was reinstated. Huseyin says no, he is angry with himself for not being able to help Omer, but there seems to be some jealousy between him and Sami.
The doctor’s lawyer advises him to stay calm and not stay anything without thinking twice. Omer enters the room and says they are going to spend some time together and get to know each other well by the end of the night. The interrogation starts and Omer points out the doctor was caught in the act, he goes at the doctor strong but the doc keeps his mouth shut.
Huseyin and Ali fight about the fact that Omer is back because Sami and the Director are such good friends Ali warns that if he goes down, he will take Huseyin with him.
Elif watches the news report of the doctor’s arrest and recognizes him as the doctor who was checking Tio Tayyar’s blood pressure after Omer accused him of being a murderer in the event weeks ago.
A frustrated Omer and Sami argue out in the hall after getting nothing out of the doctor – it’s clear his lawyer isn’t going to let him talk. Sami wants Omer to go home and rest but Omer can’t rest until he gets some answers.
Speaking of just changing scenery, Huseyin and Ali are now arguing in the abandoning construction site where they normally meet Tayyar instead of the office. Tayyar arrives and they update Tayyar that the doctor hasn’t spoken yet. Tayyar points out that everyone has a weak point. Ali’s is money, Huseyin’s is family…. maybe the doctor’s is fear? He’s never talked before but maybe he will? They need to take precautions.
Omer goes to see Elif and brings her flowers. He says a bunch of flowery words about starting all his mornings with her and she says she isn’t used to him talking so much. It’s a sweet wonderful moment and they almost get lost in nothing but romance but as Omer is driving off after kissing Elif goodbye she suddenly remembers the news and yells for him to stop! He stops and she tells him she has something very important that she had been planning to come to the station to tell him. What is it? He asks still thinking romantic thoughts, but his mind shifts to a different line of thinking all together when Elif informs him that she has seen that man he was interrogating before with her Tio Tayyar.
Fatih is in a van somewhere and some guy comes to see him (is it the same guy that Tayyar was asking about the whereabouts of Fatih? I’m not sure.) dude tells Fatih that Tayyar is looking everywhere for him but that his mom is safe. Fatih says as soon as he gets Nilufer he will disappear, he tells dude not to come back unless he calls for him.
Mert comes to see Nilufer to bring her to school but she’s not willing to go. He’s willing to take her out somewhere instead but she’s not willing to go out anywhere. She says she doesn’t feel well. Mert says fine. He’s saying put. She can go sleep and he’ll stay and watch basketball. Nil reluctantly agrees.
Omer returns to the station and asks about the doctor. Sami had him moved and Omer asks to be shown where the doctor was moved.
Arda arrives to a restaurant for breakfast and awaits Pelin, she arrives and asks for Omer. When she realizes Omer isn’t coming and it’s just going to be the two of them she almost leaves but Arda manages to convince her to stay. I really don’t understand why she’s still pretending she doesn’t want to be with him? It’s clear that she does, what’s up with that?
Omer finds the doctor alone in the room and at first the doctor who was all terrified the night before is full of bravado in the light of day but Omer is done playing and he gets real rough real quick – that can’t be legal but it doesn’t look like a room with cameras – no cameras, no lawyer, definitely police brutality in the form of chair to the throat but the guy talks! I wonder if that would hold up in court in Turkey? Omer looks thrilled.
Nil is out back sitting in a lawn chair while Asli comes to yell at her for ordering high calorie pizza! Nil didn’t but Mert must have then since there’s a pizza guy at the door. Asli tells Nil to deal with it. Nil goes to clear up the misunderstanding but it’s Fatih at the door and he tells Nil that she better meet him in the park to talk because if she doesn’t come out then he will come in.
Bad doctor tells Omer that Tayyar funded his education ensuring he’d be very grateful to him, he explains how the orphans get involved in the process and that Tayyar has a man named Metin, he’s heard his name many times but he’s never seen him. Omer calls Sami and tells him that the doctor has confessed, tells him to call the doc’s lawyer, he’s ready to make his declaration.
Nil goes to see Fatih and he begs her for a chance, they are finally free, rich, they can go! But Nil wants to know how he could do want he did. He came between her and Elif! Fatih doesn’t give a damn about Elif, he just wants to leave! Nil says she isn’t going anywhere with him.
Arda wants to know if Omer did anything to make the doc confess and Omer admits he may have lost control a little… what if he files a compliant, Pelin asks. He won’t, Omer concludes and Sami and Huseyin join them. Once all four are present Omer confirms the news, we got our man, we were right – it’s Tayyar Dunar!!! Huseyin looks shook!!! Everyone else is pleased, especially Sami.
Omer leaves to call Elif and give her the good news which honestly was insensitive to do over the phone knowing her connection to Tayyar. She wants to know if Tayyar had anything to do with her dad’s death but Omer doesn’t know yet and they move on to a question of immediate urgency, ‘Did you miss me?’
Beautifully written, Darcy! It’s fun to read these to bring all this drama back to life! It’s always fun when the bad guys get angry at one another. Fatih didn’t put the diamonds in the safe as he told Tayyar, making Tayyar furious. Tayyar and Husseyn try to blame the other for the operation problems.
Come to think of it, Husseyn and Sami are also scrapping. I think Husseyn is jealous of the father-son type of relationship of Sami and Omer. Husseyn can’t win with good guys or bad guys. But he still seems very much in control.
Omer getting violent may have been necessary with the doctor, but that’s a shame. This happens in all police dramas it seems. I prefer to see them outfox the bad guys.
Pelin and Arda is hard to understand. I don’t know her backstory. Maybe it’s important for her to be in charge, independent, and not lose control. Arda seems so oblivious to this and keeps trying. She is lucky he stays with her. Perhaps she feels he always thought she loved him. This might make him happy but might make her feel taken for granted. They are both good cops and their strengths complement each other. I will be glad when this courtship period ends!
