#35 part 1

Slight rewind. Sada tells Alya, divorce my son for the umpteenth time.

Alya shows up at Mine’s with a bottle of wine and an orchid.

Cihan’s operation is raided. Who’s the snitch?

Alya compliments Mine on her home and the table she’s set for her visit. Mine is glad Alya accepted the invitation and starts with the questions right away. How’s life in the konak? Fine, Alya replies. No complaints except for the stairs. There are a lot.

Mine says she admires Alya. She’s brave. You married your husband’s brother. I know you did it for your son. Alya snarks, did you look this up on social media? Mine laughs. We had discussed this. Anyway, this is a small place, everyone knows everything, and you’re an Albora. She asks, why would a modern, educated woman agree to this kind of marriage?

It has nothing to do with education, Alya replies, I’m a mother and I’d do anything for my son. Mine responds, even put up with Sadakat’s tyranny? Alya admits Sada is difficult, but she also feels lucky. Although he’s tough on the outside, Cihan has been very kind and understanding with her. He’s been supportive. [Love this, Alya thinks Mine is just Cihan’s spy. Ha, is Mine turning green?]

Alya turns the tables and asks Mine if she has someone special. Mine says yes. It’s trouble. They care for each other very much. But he is married and has a child. It’s not meant to be. Alya calls her considerate. [?] Mine says she has no choice but to wait for him. [is it just me, or is Mine looking increasingly creepier?]

Cihan returns to the konak and there’s Sada. Right off the bat she accuses Alya of snitching. She left the konak last night. Cihan says it wasn’t her, but he doesn’t tell Sada where Alya went. Sada warns him to find the traitor, or he will lose power.

Cihan enters the bedroom and Alya snarks that Cihan looks like he’s been busted. She’s surprised to find out that it’s true. Would she have turned him in if he told her the location? He doesn’t think so. She says she does not approve of his shady business dealings. He says he never asked her to approve. He just thinks she wouldn’t have betrayed him.

I don’t like that you do this, Alya tells him, but it’s your life. He replies, can we talk about my obligations later? Obligations? She answers, one of them is to marry me, right? He tells her not to think about that. She can’t ignore it.
He asks her about her visit to Mine. She says it was nothing much. She came home early. But Mine put out a good spread. She was an excellent hostess and has a lovely house. We had a great talk. Mine wants to do it again and I accepted.

Cihan asks her to leave so he can change clothes. She tells him he doesn’t look well. His eyes are red. He says he’s okay, just tired. She goes. He coughs. I guess he’s going to be sick.

Alya’s safe is stuck. Cihan fixes it. She takes the passports out and decides to keep them in a drawer instead. She tells him, you told me if I tried to leave again, we’d see if I could pull it off. I want to see what happens.

Cihan shows up at Mine’s. He wants to know why she didn’t answer his call last night. Don’t play games, he says, what was Alya doing here? You’re the only one playing, she replies, if we have a relationship, just be open about it so I don’t have to play. He tells her to stay out of his business.

All I’m asking is to for you to be honest with me, Mine says, weren’t you the one who said this marriage wasn’t real? Like with Zeyda. You swore you didn’t have feelings for Alya, but that’s not true. He denies it. She asks, are you lying to me or yourself? You can’t accept it because Alya was your brother’s wife.

lejos
#35 part 2

Cihan tells her to be quiet. Mine reminds him she saw Boran’s video. He told you to marry Alya because he knew you wouldn’t touch her. He repeats—be quiet. She won’t. I’ll look you in the eyes and tell you the truth. It might help you. I know you. Your conscience is holding you back. You’d regret it and so would Alya.

Cihan warns her to stay away from Alya or she’ll be sorry. What will you do, she asks, have me killed? Leave me? End things? If you plan to dump me, I’d rather you killed me. He says that’s stupid. Isn’t that how you see me, she asks. Because I’m the only one willing to die for you. The one who attended your wedding with the hope of one last chance. I believed when you said it wasn’t me, you just couldn’t fall in love again. I risked everything when Alya was hurt because you asked. I believed you when you said you’d never forget what I did. You’re right, that makes me stupid. But at least I’m honest. I did this because I love you and you’ve always known that. You’re not honest. She asks him to leave.

Ugur stops Alya in the hallway. They are headed to the staff meeting. A flu epidemic has come. The chief is looking for volunteers to go to the border. Alya says she’ll volunteer. He says he can’t go because he has surgeries scheduled.

Nedim is furious about this latest raid. There’s a traitor in our midst! You promised you’d handle it! Where’s the merch? Ecmel’s people are getting everything! Cihan says nothing. Nedim and his people leave.

Cihan asks if his people managed to escape the raid. Yes, everyone got away. Cihan says, let’s keep a close eye on them at every moment. Hasan asks about the shipments. Cihan says we’ll pause them until we find the traitor. Halis says this situation will benefit Ecmel and Demir.

Nedim calls Demir. Demir says, bad luck about losing your merch, Dad. Nedim’s not happy that his son is working with Ecmel. You should have thought twice about working with Cihan, Demir replies. Now you will learn to be a man of character and stop being so weak. Nedim demands to know who is working with Ecmel. Who is the traitor? Of course, Demir’s not telling. He hangs up.

Demir tells Ecmel, our spy is the best. He’s doing great and giving us results. You’re going to make a lot of money when I give you your share. Ecmel is anxious to escape. Demir says it will happen during his examination today.
Ecmel’s family comes to visit and they run into Demir. Demir tells Sahin they have to talk about Ecmel. Demir gives Zerrin a look—how are you? She walks away and he watches her walk. She feels his eyes on her and turns around. She’s creeped out. So am I.

Nare comes to the hospital and finds out that Alya is leaving for the border because of the epidemic. Nare is worried for her. Alya says, I’m a doctor and people need help. Besides, I hardly have any patients here thanks to your mother. I’ll be more useful there. Alya asks why Nare has come. She says she wants to thank Sahin for helping Zerrin. Nare asks Alya if Cihan knows about her volunteering. Alya points out that Cihan will find out when his men report to him.

Cihan’s man calls and tells him about Alya. Cihan calls Alya. They argue. He’s worried about her going to the border, it’s dangerous. She says don’t worry, Deniz and our passports are at the konak, she’s not escaping. He’s not joking, this is dangerous. She says she won’t be staying long. She’ll be back later in the afternoon. Cihan worries, what will you do if they close the highway? Looks like he’s going after her.

#35 part 3

Nare rushes to catch Sahin before he gets in an elevator. Too late. She takes the stairs to where he gets off. Sahin exits the building and there’s Demir, motioning for him to follow. Nare follows Sahin. She hides around a corner and listens in on the convo.

Demir says, your father’s getting tests, but the person in charge is my guy. When they take your father, he will leave with you. Take the corridor and when you get to storage closet 3, stay there. Everyone’s going to think your father escaped but you’ll be hiding there a while. Sahin asks, how long? Demir’s not sure yet. Maybe a few days. We’ll see. Nare runs off. She goes to find closet 3.

Cihan shows up at the volunteer site. He says he’s from Yonca and he passes the first check point. He’s given a mask. He gets inside and says he’s from Yonca, looking for a staff member. The woman at the desk asks his name. Some local men hear him say Cihan Albora, and they rush to him. One goes to kiss Cihan’s hand. No physical contact allowed and Cihan wouldn’t allow it anyway.

Cihan says he’s looking for Dr. Alya, his wife. He spots her in the next room. A man asks, your wife is a doctor? Yes. She came to help us? Yes. God bless you, and her. Cihan’s response to all: estağfirullah.

Cihan approaches Alya and takes of his mask. She hisses at him to put it back on. They start arguing. He says it’s dangerous here. She asks, then why are you here? He could have sent his men. He says he didn’t because they’d get sick. She notes that he doesn’t look well and tells him to go sit. Of course, he doesn’t. He follows her into the room.

What if you get sick, Cihan asks. She says she can’t think about that right now. She asks him to leave. He starts to help out.

Nare thinks about what she heard. What should she do? What will she do?
Cihan continues to help. Alya watches him. Is she smiling behind her mask? Anyway, someone tells Ayla it’s time to leave. Cihan starts coughing. He looks terrible. She scolds him, she told him yesterday, but he didn’t listen. She takes his temp. He has a fever. There’s some cute back and forth about being in the smuggling business.

Word comes that the highway’s been closed. Guess they’re not leaving. He told her so.

Alya brings Cihan to a bed. She starts an IV. He can finally take off the mask. She asks, should I take your shoes off? He smiles and does it himself but tells her, you did it once before. She jokes, if I had left and abandoned you here… I can’t imagine what your mother would say. He laughs, you want an answer?

He asks her, where will you sleep? She says she’ll find a spot. He says if he wasn’t sick, they would leave. She says he’s delirious and she starts laughing.

Muzzafer brings news to Sada that Alya went to the border to help with the epidemic and Cihan went to get her. Now he’s sick. Sada wants to head there immediately. Muzzafer says it’s not possible, the highway is closed. Sada fumes, Alya is always causing problems. If anything happens to my son this time, I will kill you, Alya.

And we are out.

I didn’t have time to give much detail or check the original. There were several instances of ChiAl repartee in this episode. They are getting more and more comfortable with each other. Ozan and Sinem have good chemistry.

Thanks for the super short recap, Steve.

The story that Victor told Santita was based on what happened to him all these years we thought he was dead. Getting lost, being abandoned by his family, rescued by a general who lied to him. He tried to whitewash it a bit but it was still very inappropriate for a toddler's nighttime bed story.

He really said it for Laura's benefit. She wasn't going to listen to his explanation. Let's see what Laura does now.

The Hothead Cousins are more annoying to me than Laura. When I think about it, most of these characters are annoying.

I miss Cabo.

OT – language learning again

Susan, I was so excited to see that you have told us your language learning story. Thank you!! And I was already excited to read Novelera’s. I really really want to talk about all this – so interesting, so much to think about! – but here I am chomping through my holiday to-do list so I don’t have the time right now. Drat. I mean, the holiday stuff is fun, but it doesn’t allow time for much else.

But I will be commenting about all this soon. Now I’m going to read the recap!

Lejos

Dondi- you’ve done it again! I thought I’d caught everything that went on but I see I missed some bits. So glad you’re on the job!

Yes, Mine does seem to be getting creepier or at least not so wide-eyed and wounded as she seemed before. I really liked her direct talk to Cihan, calling it like it is.

Still thinking why o why Mine do you want a guy who’s so chilly to you? Yes he’s handsome and masculine etc but what use is all that to you if he’s not handing himself over to you?

Are those the only masks a medical group has? Just the flimsy paper ones that don’t cover completely?

I wonder who the spy is.

Maggie

Menos
Dondi, thank you so much for this excellent, detailed recap. The pot is bubbling .
Gee, I had a sweet mother in !aw . She never threatened to kill me .
Susan

OT..Maggie , I agree . I enjoyed reading about your language journey and Novelera's. Susan

Another great recap, dondi. You always clarify something I didn't catch. And, yes, Demir lusting after Zerrin is now pretty obvious. He better have matrimony in mind or there'll be a foot race to see if Ecmel or Sahin kills him first. Not that I want his paws on her in any circumstance!

Mine has never been a favorite of mine. I guess a lot of it is how independent I've always been. I just have contempt for a woman who clings to a man who doesn't love her. It hasn't bothered me that Cihan has used her. Why not? And she's beside herself because of the gradual affection Cihan and Alya seem to be developing. She did hit the nail on the head about Cihan never wanting to touch Alya because of his brother.

Hmmm. Why can't that huge number of cops notice our guys behind that stone fence during the raid?

Why doesn't Nedim have the purse strings so as to control Demir? I suppose it could be that his mother had the bucks and left them to him. But, from what I've seen in dizis, the patriarch usually controls the money.

What will Nare do? Well, I really want Ecmel to stay in prison, so Nare overhearing the plot gave me some hope it will be foiled. I definitely feel that way because I don't want Sahin doing illegal things.

El mejor regalo – The Best Gift
Episode 36 #1

At the Albora Konak
Muzaffer knocks and enters Sadakat’s room.
Muzaffer: Ms. Sadakat, Alya went to the border to help with the epidemic and Cihan followed to bring her back, but he got sick.
Sadakat says they must leave immediately to go there, but Muzaffer tells her they cannot because the highway is closed.
Sadakat: Alya is always causing problems.
She dismisses Muzaffer. She hopes nothing will happen to Cihan and vows that if anything happens to her son this time, she will kill Alya.

At the emergency clinic at Nusaybin on the border:
Alya is with Cihan who is lying on a hospital bed. She tells him his temperature is very high. She goes to put some cold cloths on Cihan to bring down his temperature. She tells him to prepare for it, and they are very cold. He reacts and tells her to remove them. He says he thinks she did it on purpose. She tells him, of course she did it on purpose because it’s her only recourse to get revenge on him for all he has done to her.
Alya: Stop being so stubborn.
Cihan: No, that’s you that’s so stubborn. Take this away. It’s too cold.
Alya replaces the cloth and tells him he needs to cool down, that it’s dangerous to have a temperature that high. He tells her to let him die then, after all, doesn’t she want to get rid of him?
Alya: Stop saying such ridiculous things.
Cihan: It’s true you are a doctor and not guided by your emotions.
He then asks her to bring his coat. Alya goes to get it. He tells her to look in the pocket. She asks if it’s his telephone. He says check the other pocket. It’s a box. He tells her to come close but not to give it to him. He tells her to open it. It is a gold locket.
Cihan: Your birthday is February 14 and tells her that’s today. Happy Birthday!
Alya is very impactada and thanks him. Then she asks how he knew it was her birthday. He admits seeing it in her passport. He saw her store it in the drawer. He tells her not to worry, that he left it as it was, so she can feel free to leave when she likes.
Cihan: Alya, it’s a birthday present. You’re supposed to open it and say you like it.
Alya laughs: I like it. It’s very pretty. Thank you very much. It’s really nice. Is that a phoenix engraved on it?
Cihan: It’s a phoenix rising from the ashes. It’s a locket, so you can put a picture of Cihan/Deniz in it.
Alya agrees that she will put a picture of Deniz, although there are two places so I’ll put another picture in it.

In the Yonca hospital in Midyat
Ecmel is sitting on the hospital bed. A henchie, dressed like a hospital employee [might be an bribed employee, come to think of it] goes to move Ecmel for some tests.
Henchie: We’re going to run some tests, OK?
Ecmel: Yes, let’s go.
They walk down the hall followed by two gendarmes. They pass Demir who smiles sarcastically. They knock on the door that is opened by a staff member, and only Ecmel enters. The hospital employee who opened the door closes the door and Sahin enters. The employee tells Ecmel to slug him, which he does, very harshly, IMO. Then Sahin takes Ecmel into the adjoining room. The employee opens the window and then calls for help, saying they went out the window.

Babachita

Episode 36 #2
Meanwhile, Ecmel is nearly unrecognizable in a wheelchair, with a knit cap and covered with a blanket, being wheeled by Sahin. They go into Storeroom 3, that they had already planned to use. It has many boxes in it. Ecmel hugs his son, but it doesn’t look like Sahim hugs back. Ecmel thanks him very earnestly twice, but Sahin is very conflicted, almost numb. Sahin’s phone rings. Ecmel tells him to answer it. It’s Nare wanting him to come to the hospital right away. He lies and tells Ecmel it is Demir and then leaves him to meet her in front of the hospital.
Sahin: Nare, did something happen? Why did you call?
Nare: So you wouldn’t become your father’s accomplice. I’ve informed the gendarmerie that he’s hiding in Storeroom 3.
Sahin stares at her in disbelief. Then he leaves quickly to rescue his father. The elevator is too slow, so he takes the stairs. He arrives just in time to see his father walked out by the gendarmes. Nare can see this from the end of the hall. Demir shows up, too.
Ecmel tells Sahin: How could you do this, Sahin? You’ve ruined everything.
Ecmel snarls as they pass Nare. Demir watches this drama and then leaves. Nare looks at Sahin, but he turns away.

Back at the border clinic:
Alya is still thanking Cihan for her gift. He tells her to put it on. She says it’s not the right time.
Cihan: What do you mean it’s not the right time? Most people are courteous enough to thank you for taking the time to buy a gift and then try it on so the other person can see it.
Alya: You have a fever and I’m looking after you, so this isn’t the right time.
Cihan: Don’t use that as an excuse not to wear it. Just say you don’t like it.
Alya: No, Cihan, I told you I love it. I even thanked you. What more do you want? You have a fever and I’m trying to bring it down. I have to take care of you (as she puts another cold cloth on his forehead).
Cihan’s phone rings and she asks Cihan if she should answer it. He says yes, so she gets the phone.
Cihan: Who is it?
Alya sighs: Mrs. Sadakat.
Cihabn: Don’t answer.
Alya: If I don’t answer it, she’ll go crazy and yell at me.
Cihan, with some humor: Like she’s not going to do that anyway.
Alya answers: Yes, Mrs. Sadakat?
Cihan yanks the cloth off his forehead: I’m tired of this thing!
Sadakat hears his voice: Cihan, what’s going on? How is my son?
Alya: He has a fever.
Sadakat, barking orders as usual: If he can talk, give him the phone.
Alya stands up to Sadakat: He can’t.
Sadakat: Why did you leave and have to take my son?
Alya: Actually, I can’t talk right now either, ma’am. I’m trying to bring down Cihan’s fever.
We see Cihan listening to this, rolling his eyes, definitely not getting any rest.
Alya to Sadakat: He’ll be fine soon. All that can happen if you hang up.
Cihan: Hang up, Mom. I’ll call you later.
Sadakat hears that: He can talk! Why don’t you pass him the telephone?
Alya: He can’t talk. He’s delirious.
Cihan sighs.
Sadakat: That’s what happens when you take him to an outbreak center. It’s all your fault my son’s sick. It wasn’t bad enough that you got him sick, you had to take him to that place. It’s disgusting, Alya.
Alya: Coming here isn’t what made him sick. It doesn’t spread that easily. He was ill before he came here.
Sadakat: If you bring him back to me sick, you’ll face the consequences.
Sadakat hangs up.
Alya: She’s unbelievable. I’m starting to feel hot now.
Cihan: I warned you.
Alya: It would have been worse (if she hadn’t answered). She would have kept calling until we answered. I told you not to come here. I warned you. I told you not to come here. You know who’ll take the blame if anything happens to you.

Episode 36 #3
Cihan: Don’t blame me. I‘m only here because you are. When I heard you were coming here, I decided to follow you, and then I got sick.
Alya: So, it’s my fault?
Cihan: I’m, not blaming you. Calm down. Fine, don’t try it on if you don’t want to. (He has been thinking about that necklace all this time, apparently.)
Alya: Don’t exaggerate.

Back in Midyat in the hospital parking lot:
The gendarmerie are taking Ecmel to their vehicle. Fidan, Sahir are outside the entrance and Fidan calls out for Ecmel.
Fidan: Sahin, hijo, how’d they catch him?
Ecmel catches sight of Nare and yells: Why is that woman here, Sahin? She sold me out. How’d she find out, Sahin?
The gendarmes tell him to be quiet and they take him to the vehicle. Ecmel continues to yell.
Ecmel: How did she find out? Answer me! Look at what your obsession has done, Sahin.
Demir strides along the balcony, watching all this drama.
Fidan: You didn’t tell this woman, did you?
Sahin doesn’t answer, and Fidan starts to run to Nare yelling: I’m going to kill you.
Sahin restrains her. She yells at him to stay away from her.
He walks over to Nare: How did you find out?
Nare, pointing at Demir: I saw (and heard) you talking to that scumbag. You’re working with him after all he’s done to you.
Fidan asks Zerrin what they are talking about, what is she saying to Sahin?
Nare: Don’t take this personally, but I don’t regret reporting your father. Justice won out today.
Sahin: Really?
Nare: That’s right. He’s a criminal and you’re his accomplice, understand?
Sahin, spitting out the words: You’re nobody to talk to me about justice or crime. Selling out my father was a dagger to my heart. You should be ashamed. I can’t even look at you.
A car door slams, and then we hear the dulcet tones of Sadakat, fast approaching: You shut your mouth, you b…ard!
Nare: Mom!
Sadakat: You’re always causing us problems.
Nare: Let’s go.
Sadakat: Stay out of it, Nare.
Fidan: Took you long enough, Sadakat.
Sadakat: You hid who you really were from us for years, with your intentions and filthy tricks, but the truth finally came to light. You have problem, a worthy successor to that human scum named Ecmel. You did the right thing, daughter (and she pulls Nare closer) You were very brave to report that criminal.
Sadakat signals to three henchies who head toward Fidan and family.
Nare: Hey what are they doing here? What are they doing, Mom? [I’m pretty sure that this wouldn’t have happened if Cihan were there.]
There are heavy blows toward Sahin, and lots of yelling from the women. Sahin holds his own for awhile but finally gives up. Sadakat is thoroughly enjoying the beatdown. A car drives up and Kaya jumps out and runs to the fight, yelling: Stop! He finally calms them down: Are you crazy? Get out of here!
Sadakat: That’s enough, son. Get in the car.
Sahin is in bad shape, and Nare tries to help him. Fidan also helps him.
Nare: Are you OK, Sahin?
He tells Nare to leave. He turns and lets his mother help him to the car.
Kaya looks at Zerrin, who tells him to get out, to get out of her sight.
Zerrin: Your sister sold out my father. And she ruined Sahin’s life.

Episode 36 #4
Kaya keeps calling her name: Zerrin!
Zerrin tell him: I never want to see you again. What kind of people are you? You’re murderers.
Kaya: I didn’t want any of this to happen.
Sahin, Zerrin, and Fidan turn and leave.
Kaya goes to his mother, who stands with Muzaffer and Kadir. He gives her an angry stare and leaves. Nare asks Kadir to go with Kaya and not to let him be alone.
Nare stares at Sadakat: You just had to make me regret it, didn’t you?
Sadakat, reaching out to touch Nare who slaps away her hand: I suggest you not waste your breath. You did the right thing. If you hadn’t thought it was the right thing, you wouldn’t have reported him. You did very well.
Nare glares at Sadakat and then leaves her alone with Muzaffer.
Fidan and her group are walking to their vehicles. She asks Sahin if is satisfied? Was Nare worth it? Look what they did to you. You’ve sent your father to the slaughter.
Sahin is struggling to stand, very wounded after the beatdown.
Fidan: Now he’s never getting out of prison. He’ll rot in there.
Up walks Demir, [oh joy]!
He addresses Zerrin: Your mother’s right. Your father ‘s going back to a cell, and I’ll do all I can to get him out as soon as possible. But what will you do?
He keeps staring at Zerrin, which I agree is very creepy.
Demir continues: Will you not seek revenge? Just say the word and I’ll gather every one of my men and have them at your door. I can also let you see Ecmel before he’s returned to the prison.
Sahin isn’t biting.
Demire: You want that, don’t you?
Fidan nods in agreement.

Back at the border clinic.
Cihan: What made you become a doctor? What I mean is, is it something you always wanted? Alya: Why are you asking? Just curious?
Cihan agrees.
Alya: Well, I always wanted this. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a doctor. That was my dream. My mother supported me. She always supported me in every way. Caroline, my Canadian mother. I couldn’t have done it if not for her.
Cihan: May she rest in peace.
Alya: How about you? If your mother hadn’t given you a gun when you were five, would you have become a smuggler?
Cihan: I don’t think it’s good idea to go around calling me a smuggler everywhere.
Alya: I thought everyone knew what you are.
Cihan: You think I’d be here if that were true?
Alya: What I meant to ask was if you weren’t here, like Boran who got away from this world and was living a more conventional life, what would you have wanted to do?

Episode 36 #5
Cihan: I would have liked to be a musician. It’s what I always wanted to do.
Alya’s eyebrows go up a bit with this.
Cihan: It’ s probably weird to hear a smuggler saying that.
Alya laughs: It is. Well, actually not really. I heard you playing the saz the day of the wedding. I watched you and you were incredible!
Cihan now has a wide smile.
She continues: It was a real treat to hear you. I loved it.
Cihan: That was the day you were busy escaping.
Alya: You should get some sleep. You’re delirious again.
She sighs, and he coughs. Both look exhausted. Cihan’s eyes close. She checks his temperature by touching his cheek, and she compares it to hers by touching her forehead with her other hand.
Alya: Sweet dreams, she smiles.
He’s not watching anymore, so she takes the box and puts on the locket. It looks nice next to her other pendant, the D, which must be for Deniz. She fingers them as she looks lovingly at Cihan.

In Mine’s apartment:
Mine’s phone rings and she answers it. It’s Hulya from the hospital team that went to the border to inform her that because the highway was shut down, the team is staying in Nusaybin.
Mine: Oh, really? That’s fine. I’ll send the other team tomorrow to replace them. Is Dr. Alya there?
Hulya: Yes, and her husband is also here.
Mine: Cihan Albora?
Hulya: Yes, but he got sick, unfortunately. Dr. Alya’s looking after him.
Mine: Fine, thank you for calling.
Mine doesn’t look very happy. She hangs up and throws down her phone, saying, he got sick.
Still later at the border hospital, we see Cihan sleeping with Alya next to him, also sleeping. He opens his eyes slightly, and likes what he sees, Alya cozied up to him, wearing the necklace. His head falls back on his pillow, and we see an absolutely beautiful smile appear on his face! He closes his eyes again.

We get a nice view of the countryside at dawn.
A car drives up to the clinic and, [oh joy!] Sadakat gets out. The place is full of people coughing and wearing masks. She and Muzaffer look around. They start to walk to the emergency treatment area. A staff member tells Sadakat to cover her mouth. She and Muzaffer take masks. Even before she puts on her mask, another member takes her temperature. The staff are masked very heavily. Their temps pass, so they walk further, still without putting masks on. Then we see them enter the building (masked) and she is told Cihan and Alya are at the end of the hall. She tells Muzaffer to wait for her at the door and heads to the end of the hall. She opens the curtain and there’s a wonderful shot of her looking at Alya and Cihan all snuggled together with a stunned expression. She yanks off her mask and closely examines them. Then she says: Good Morning in a very loud voice.
Cihan: Mother? You came?
Alya starts to get up.
Sadakat: What’s going on? Are you so sick that you don’t recognize your own mother?
Cihan: You didn’t have to come all the way here. With the heart condition you have a fever could be really serious for you. You should have stayed in the konak. It was dangerous to come here.
Alya is coughing and trying to get her bearings. She gets ready to remove a bandage from Cihan.
Sadakat: Why didn’t you come home? You just had to chase this dam woman and now you’re sick.

Episode 36 #6
Cihan: I have a fever. In fact, …
He breaks off and hollers as Alya removes (rips off) a bandage.
Alya tells him not to exaggerate.
Cihan: Mom, I don’t feel at all well. I have a fever and you shouldn’t be around me. There’s nothing to worry about. Alya’s taking care of me. She’s a doctor, remember?
Alya: Telling her that will only worry her. Mrs. Sadakat, relax. Do you really think I’d poison him or something?
Sadakat: You’ve poisoned him enough since you married him, don’t you think?
Cihan: Mom, stop it. Don’t start.
Sadakat: What is this?
Alya: What?
Sadakat goes over to take her locket: This.
Alya replies: A locket.
Cihan: What did you think it was?
Sadakat: Where did it come from?
Cihan: I bought it.
Sadakat looks at Alya, who really looks weak and is weaving around a little, but keeps hold of her locket.
Sadakat: Why?
Cihan: Will you tell her?
Alya: My birthday.
Cihan repeats: Her birthday.
Sadakat grunts: It doesn’t look good on you.
Alya: Thank you.
Cihan goes to take Sadakat out: It’s time to go, I’ll accompany you.
She keeps staring at the locket and finally starts to go with him.
Alya: We need to monitor your fever, Cihan.
Sadakat stares daggers at Alya.
Cihan: I feel better. Let’s go. Alya, aren’t you coming?
Alya: Yes, of course, I’m going. A they leave, a woman is coughing and Alya tells her to cover her mouth.
Muzaffer is waiting at the door and tells Cihan he hopes he feels better and wishes Alya a nice day. Alya thanks him, saying it’s been exhausting. She tells them to go ahead, and she will make her final rounds and then join them.
Cihan is still coughing.
Sadakat to Cihan: We have to talk.

At the Midyat penitentiary.
Ecmel: Look at what you’ve done, Sahin. All for your obsession with Nare.
Zerrin and Fidat are also at the table.
Fidan: Ecmel, my son didn’t tell Nare that you were escaping.
Ecmel: Whether he did or not, it matters not. He was supposed to stay away from her. Take your sister to Sedat.
Sahin: No, Dad. I can’t let that happen.
Ecmel: I agreed not to marry her to Mahmut Nalhanoglu’s son because you were getting me out. But now that’s impossible, so it’s your duty to secure her future. I need Mahmut’s power and influence. You will marry him, Zerrin.

Episode 36 #7
Sahin: Dad, forget it. You promised.
Ecmel: And you promised to get me out of this prison. I will not break my promise.
Zerrin: Dad, don’t pressure my brother.
Ecmel: Then say you’ll marry Sedat.
Sahin: No, Dad.
It’s a standoff with stares all around. Finally Zerrin says: I’ll marry him.
Fidan looks alarmed. Sahin: have you lost your mind?
Zerrin: I’m tired. Let’s be done with this. Leave Sahin in peace.
Ecmel to Sahin: See, you could learn from her. That’s my girl, honey. Congratulations. Sahin, have you looked in a mirror? Your face is a mess. You need to reconsider and concentrate on fulfilling your duties and stop making mistakes, because if you don’t assume the role that’s yours by rights, they’ll destroy you like they did me. I want you to understand that you have the strength and the will to face Cihan and Sadakat. You’re a born leader, son. Don’t forget that.
Sahin still says nothing. Lots of grim stares.

Back at the emergency clinic, Cihan tells Sadakat he is listening.
Sadakat: What were you doing in there, Cihan?
Cihan: What do you mean?
Sadakat: Stop playing dumb, you were snuggling next to her, plus you gave her a necklace.
Cihan: I was very sick and had a terrible night. Alya was exhausted from caring for patients all morning. What’s wrong with that? You wanted me to act like a husband and now you won’t stop yelling. What do you want?
Sadakat: I was hoping this wouldn’t happen.
Cihan: What are you talking about?
Sadakat: Falling in love with your brother’s wife, Cihan.
They stare at each other for some time.

Back in Midyat:
We see Zerrin walking up some stairs where she knocks on a door. Nare answers.
Zerrin: Good morning, Nare.
Nare: Hello, Zerrin.
We see Ozcan come out from an inner room to see who is at the door.
Zerrin asks Nare to come outside for a moment because they need to talk. Nare looks back and Ozcan pretends to go back inside and close the door but comes right back out so he can eavesdrop on their conversation.
Zerrin: My father is in jail, and I ask that you not report my brother.
Nare: Zerrin, you know I’d never do that. I have no reason to.
Zerrin: Stop lying. You reported him.
Nare: I reported your father because he’s a criminal. I actually prevented Sahin from committing a crime. It would’ve been worse if your father had gotten away.
Zerin: And what about you? Weren’t you moved by anything you saw at the hospital? By what your mother did?
Nare: Of course it hurt! It was awful and I hated it. I didn’t know she was coming. I didn’t even tell her where I was.
Zerrin: My brother would never have taken part in such a brutal attack.
Nare: He joined forces with Demir on your father’s orders.
We see Ozcan listening at the doorway.
Zerrin: He did it so I wouldn’t have to marry Sedat.
Nare: What?

Episode 36 #8
Zerrin: If he hadn’t worked with Demir, my father would have forced me to marry Sedat.
Nare is very impactada: is that true?
Zerrin: He did all this for me, Nare. My brother did it to save me. I won’t let anyone else in my family suffer, you hear me? I’m marrying Sedat.
Nare: Don’t do it, Zerrin. You’ll ruin your life. You’re going to regret it.
Zerrin walks away, and Nare runs after her: Zerrin, please don’t do that. You’re going to end up like me, you hear me? Zerrin, you ‘ll regret it.
Ozcan stands at the door, openly hearing this.

At the border clinic:
Sadakat: She wasn’t right for him and she’s not right for you.
Cihan watches Alya approaching them, having finished her rounds.
Cihan to Sadakat: Don’t panic. Forget it. Here she comes.
Sadakat: Did you hear that Ecmel tried to escape?
Cihan: Yes
Sadakat: Then you must also know that Sahin helped him.
Cihan: I heard.
Sadakat: Demir is his ally and he’s been supporting them.
Cihan nods: Let’s go back home.
Alya: Yes, the team’s ready to go and the other team’s here in that truck.
And guess who gets out of the truck first: Mine!
She tells the others to put their masks on.
Alya can’t believe what she is seeing.
Alya: Mine came, too.
Sadakat: I wonder why.
Cihan to Sadakat: She’s runs the hospital. Maybe that’s why.
Sadakat: Hmmm.
Mine greets them: Good morning.
Alya welcomes her.
Mine greets Sadakat and explains that she heard that Cihan was sick and came to see how he was doing. [This seems odd to me if they are pretending not to be involved. Is there some reason it would be appropriate for Mine to be checking on Cihan? Perhaps because of his prominent position?]
She asks him: Are you doing better?
Cihan: Yes, much better thank you. Who told you?
Mine: Hulya told me. This is a high-risk area, so it’s normal that you’d get sick.
Alya jumps in: Totally, and you could get sick, too. You shouldn’t have come. You’re exposing yourself.
Mine: Relax, I’m just doing my job. It’s a pandemic, Alya, and we have to help. We can’t be indifferent. You’re new here, but it’s our job to help people.
Alya: I understand.
A group of women with masks on approaches and asks to speak.
Sadakat: I’m listening.
The woman goes up to Alya: Excuse me, doctor, but my daughter recovered thanks to you. How can I repay you?
Alya: It’s not necessary.

Episode 36 #9
Cihan looks at Alya, perhaps thinking she needs to give them something they can repay her for them to save face.
In that vein, Sadakat speaks up: I am the head of the Alboras, Sadakat Albora. (Apparently they should have addressed Sadakat not Alya, who is “only” Cihan’s wife.)
The woman replies: I’m very sorry. Since the doctor is married to Mr. Cihan, (she tries to explain), I’m sorry.
Mine, Alya look around.
Sadakat: Hmmmph, I am the mother of Cihan Albora and I’m not dead yet. Know your place.
Cihan realizes he had better say something:
The women keep apologizing. They agree that she is right. Please forgive us. But every woman in town agreed that when we get sick, we’ll come to you (Alya).
Alya smiles at Cihan, who seems impressed with their courage, I think, to keep addressing their thanks to Alya.
Alya: Thank you very much. You’d be more than welcome.
They ask if she works in the Yonca hospital.
Alya: That’s right, but don’t wait until you are sick to come to be seen, I’m begging you.
The ladies thank her again. Then they turn to Sadakat and Cihan:
You have a wonderful daughter-in--law, ma’am. I hope you‘ll be very happy, Mr. Cihan.
Cihan: We are, thank you.
They say: You must be exhausted. Go rest. They leave, still saying thank you.
Cihan grins a little at Alya: If you’re finished, I think it’s time to go back.
Alya to Mine: Are you going to stay and care for the sick, Mine?
Mine agrees that she will.
Alya: Your efforts are invaluable.
Mine: And yours.
Sadakat gives a side eye to this exchange.
Mine: Have a nice day, Cihan. I hope you get better.
Cihan: Have a nice day, Mine.
He tells Muzaffer to take his mother to the konak.
Muzaffer asks if Cihan will be driving his car. Alya says in your dreams! She will be driving.
She says: Listen to your doctor. I’m driving. You can be my copilot. Cihan is defeated. He says OK, and then: Let me open your door, ma’am.
Sadakat is watching every move. Alya gets into the driver’s seat: have a nice day, Ms. Sadakat. As Cihan closes her door, they both share little smiles.
Sadakat watches them start to leave and then signals Muzaffer that she is ready.
Cihan gives directions, and Alya tells him she knows the road. He is still coughing.
Sadakat is still watching them. [She hardly blinks for fear of missing something!]
Mine is also watching them. Mine yanks off her mask and looks about to cry.

Thanks, Babachita, for another excellent recap. I completely agreed with all your impressions of what these people are thinking and not always saying.

I went down a rabbit hole about Nasaybin. It's apparently a VERY old city that once was part of the Assyrian Empire. It's largely Kurdish. Like many very old places, it has a violent past. I also looked up gendarme. It seems they are military police rather than municipal police and often do their jobs in more rural areas. I had heard the word but didn't know the definition.

Regarding Demir's plan to get Ecmel free, how could they know that some hospital employee wouldn't need something from that storage room? I'm not sure if I heard correctly, but I thought Demir said the plan was for Ecmel and Sahin to stay a long time in that location until the heat was gone. Days?

How did Sadakat know what Nare had done? There's a lot of words that come to mind when thinking of her, but one of them is surely outrageous. She shows up in Nasaybin as if her adult son wouldn't be fine with a doctor by his side. I laughed, Babachita, at your several [Oh joys] when she shows up. Also, ITA on "lots of grim stares". Maybe they practice grim stares at the Turkish equivalent of Julliard.

Also, did Sadakat inject a tracker into her children? She always seems to know where they are. Just awful...bringing a gang of guys to beat on Sahin.

I loved the denouement of Alya's helping people at Nusaybin resulting in overturning Sadakat's refusal that they see Alya for medical help.

Terrific, Babachita!! I really appreciate both the incredible detail and your humorous asides.

Today my cleaning lady came so I didn’t get on caray until now. Very late!

It’s really something how characters get beaten up and just end up with little butterfly bandages. And now Cihan supposedly has a very high temperature but he lays there calmly (not curled up like a super sick person would be) and he just gives small coughs now and then. The other patients also lay there neatly in their beds and aren’t gasping. A very low-key and decorous epidemic!
