Kara Para Ask – Black Money Love – Amor de contrabando
Episode 76 #1

Elif is in her creepy jail cell.
An envelope appears. She reads the contents, a declaration of guilt for laundering money for her to sign:
…I declare that I’ve laundered money in foreign countries and I profited from this. Also, I state that I formed a romantic relationship with Omer Demir just to clean my name and that I abused the justice system. This I solemnly declare as truth.
Elif grabs the bars in anger: Who left this here? Who’s there? I demand to see my lawyer right now. Who’s out there? Listen! Is there nobody out there?

Omer [looking oh, so handsome, I must say] is meeting with a different DA, who appears very bored and is clicking his pen open and closed.
And so, your Honor, in conclusion, our main suspects were Tayyar Dundar and Fatih Dundar, in other words, Tayyar Dundar and his son Fatih Dundar were working together.
DA: I hope you have very solid evidence to prove these claims.
Omer: Only that they were doing illegal transplants, but our primary witness was poisoned and died.
DA: Do you have the autopsy report?
Omer: Yes, we do, your Honor. But who killed him? We haven’t yet been able to prove the connection between this murder and Tayyar Dundar, but we’re continuing to investigate it, so your Honor, if there is laundered money, which there is, there must be an organization and illegal business behind it and Tayyar Dundar is at the head of …
DA, interrupts: OK, that’s fine. Enough. I understand
Omer: But I haven’t finished yet.
DA: But I’m finished listening, OK? Without any solid evidence, the things that you just told me are only unproven claims. I can’t waste my time with that.
Omer: But, your Honor, for days and for months I’ve…
DA, interrupts again: Our interview is over, Mr. Omer. Your report will be under review for three months. After that, we will make a final decision.
Omer: Your Honor, I’m just trying to…
DA: Enough, you can go. Good day!
They stare at one another for a bit.
Omer: You, too
Omer leaves. The DA gives him the side eye on his way out.

In front of the police station, we see Husseyn leave the station. Arda approaches him.
Husseyn: What’s happening? Where were you?
Arda: Good morning. I’ve been up all night doing research with Pelo.
Husseyn: Did you find anything?
Arda: No, they’ve been good at hiding their tracks.
Husseyn: And my brother was with the attorney until morning. Ah, I wish I could retire and put a newsstand here with two care tables and play backgammon until the evening. This job is putting years on me.
Arda: Omer will pull himself out of this. One lead will be enough for him to sort it out.
Husseyn: How can he pull himself out of it? The doctor said he has to rest. This is more serious that we thought it would be, Arda.
Arda: Who do you think the rat is amongst us?
He stares directly at Husseyn.
Husseyn: There isn’t a rat amongst us, Arda.
Arda: I’m saying that if you suspect someone, we could uncover him you know.

Episode 76 #2
Husseyn: I don’t suspect anyone. If you do, then tell me who.
Arda: I also don’t.
Husseyn: Good. See you later.
Arda: Where are you going?
Husseyn: Do I have to give you an explanation?
Arda: No, of course not. I was just asking in case the chief asked me about you.
Husseyn: If Chief Ali asks about me tell him that I had things to do and then I’ll be back once I finish them. If he complains, tell him to phone me. Is that OK?
Arda nods and Husseyn walks away.
Arda starts to walk after him.
Husseyn: Where are you going? Weren’t you going to see Omer?
Arda, thinking on his feet: I’m going to buy some simit to eat with Omer.
Husseyn: Yes, take him some simit and buy some cream cheese with them. The calcium will be good.
Arda orders four simit to go from the street vendor.
Husseyn is watching him in his rear-view mirror.
Arda takes the bagels and walks back to the station, while Husseyn backs out to leave.
Surprise [not], Arda comes right back out and gets in a taxi to follow Husseyn. He shows his badge to the driver (who is startled) and tells him to follow that car and not to lose it.
In his car Husseyn gets a call. He says: I’m on my way, I’m coming. I’ll be there soon.

Tayyar and Fatih are having some father-son time fishing with rod and reel from the pier. Tayyar is teaching him sort of. Fatih: With this knowledge, I could catch a shark.
Tayyar brags that the rod is the best money can buy. Fatih says it isn’t working and Tayyar says it’s probably because he didn’t tie it like he showed him.
Fatih: You see, even with all that money, it just doesn’t happen. So we can see that money can’t solve everything.
Tayyar looks almost human as he ponders what Fatih just said: Right, but this fishing business is all about luck.
Fatih moves over toward Tayyar and asks him to move over because he doesn’t have enough space.
Tayyar: Just call me father son. Why are you wiggling around about that.
Fatih: It doesn’t matter what I call you. The important thing is how I feel and I don’t feel that way yet.
Tayyar: I know why you’re feeling like that. Out last name’s the same but in your ID document it gives you my brother’s name instead of mine. Even on the papers I’m not your father. But I’ll fix that. I’ll include you in my inheritance. I promise.
Tayyar smiles.
Fatih: You still think I’m after your money, don’t you?
Tayyar: I know that is not true. You want trust and compassion.
Fatih is about to burst out laughing now.
Tayyar: You’re right to want that. It will be in time. Soon enough you’ll understand the value of your family. Your father, your sibling. A family does everything for each other. A father especially does everything for his child. And the child does the same. Now, if you’re hurt, I’ll burn this world down. (Fatih gives a skeptical side-eye here).
Fatih: It seems like you’ve forgotten that you were going to kill me.
Tayyar: That was in a moment of rage. That’s my biggest mistake. I’ll always have to live with that pain. But now, I’d die for you without even saying a word and very much hope that you’d do that for me. For example, if one of organs were to fail, you’d give me yours, right? I really think you would.

Episode 76 #3
This gets Fatih’s full attention: So that’s what this is all about. You need an organ, don’t you? All this playing at being a father and son is because of that. What do you want, huh? A kidney, a liver, what do you want?
Tayyar: Really. What a story you’ve just composed. You have a wild imagination. Good. We’re going to get to know each other better this way, I’m sure.
Fatih: We will, yes.
Tayyar: Oh, I caught one.
Fatih watches him reel it in, just like he has been trying to reel in Fatih.

At the courthouse, we see Omer cautiously open the door and peek out into the hall. He quickly closes the door when he sees the DA go out another door and ask where the bathroom is. The guard takes him there and Omer quickly takes the opportunity to go into his office. He goes through several legal papers and then finds two plane tickets and a surgical mask in his briefcase. The DA comes out of the bathroom and has the guard accompany him back to his office. Omer finds more documents. He takes photos of these. He hears the DA approach, telling the guard that he doesn’t want to be disturbed for a while. He enters to find Omer squatting on the floor, saying: I dropped my lighter. It was from my father. I would have really been sad if it has gone missing. That’s why I came back and nobody was here. It seems like I was here without permission, doesn’t it? Well, I’m really sorry.
DA doesn’t’ look convinced as Omer walks out and immediately goes to his desk to see if anything is missing. It all looks like he left it, but he is concerned.

Back to the father-son fishing outing:
Fatih: Today wasn’t that good. We didn’t catch much.
Tayyar: Fishing needs patience you know. You’ll learn to be patient in life, too.
Fatih: Right.
Tayyar: Come on, I’ll give you a ride home. We can chat on the way.
Fatih: You said I wasn’t your prisoner, but you won’t leave me alone.
Tayyar: Are you misreading me?
Fatih: I don’t want this. I’ll go by myself.
Tayyar: Actually, if I didn’t have this meeting that I cannot delay, we could have walked like father and son.
Fatih: I don’t want that. We would have been overdosed with togetherness.
Tayyar: I always like that imagination of yours. That’s one of my good qualities that you got from me.
Fatih: Sure, sure.
Tayyar: Take care of yourself and say hi to Mom for me. Goodbye.
Fatih watches him get in his van to leave. After he drives off, Mert appears. The brothers stand, staring across the street from one another. Then they meet in the middle of the street.
Fatih: So, you followed us. Were you jealous when I said I was going fishing with my father?
Mert: We have to talk. They walk together to the side of the street.

Arda is following Husseyn by taxi. He observes Husseyn stop under a big bridge and tells the taxi to stop. The taxi driver tells Arda he really hopes there won’t be any shooting because he has five children.
Arda: Relax, sir, it’s not going to happen, at least not now.

Back at the station, Omer is watching to see what the DA will do next. To his surprise, Elvan struggles up the stairs: Oh, my son!
Omer: Mother, what are you doing here? You even took the stairs.
Elvan: I’ve come to see you and Elif. You didn’t tell me anything.

Episode 76 #4
Omer gets her to sit down.
Elvan: I saw it on the TV. How’s Elif? Have you seen her at all?
Omer: They took her away from me. They won’t even let me see her. I have no idea how she is.
Elvan: Don’t worry. They’ll let her go.
Omer: It’s all my fault.
Elvan: Don’t talk like that, my son.
Omer: It is, Mom, it is. I did it in front of everybody’s eyes. I should have been more careful. I put Elif in danger. Man is blind sometimes. The documents override the truth. Mom, all I have is what I believe in, my love and my profession. But they’re too powerful. I see that now.
Elvan: Listen, nobody’s more powerful than Allah. He’ll give you the strength that you need. You shouldn’t give up. You should keep your hope alive. Listen, to me. If you don’t give up on Elif and if you and Elif don’t stop fighting, for it, you’ll see everything will turn out alright in the end.
Omer smiles at this: Mother, you’re the best mom in the world.
Elvan: Look what I brought for you.
She has a carrying case: I put food in it for Elif and I knitted a jersey for her as well. It’ll keep her warm. Take this to her. (She gives him a small item that he kisses three time, so I think it must be a religious item.) Tell her not to give up hope.
Omer notices the DA heading out of his office for the stairs to leave in a hurry. He tells Elvan to go home because he has to do something quick. You can leave those with Nadid. I’ll call you.
He heads down the stairs to follow the DA.

Mert and Fatih are visiting, overlooking the water.
Mert: Nilufer wants to talk to you about Elif.
Fatih: So, where is she?
Mert: At home.
Fatih: Then she can’t talk to me,
Mert: I’ll get her out somehow and you can meet. No one will see you. Don’t’ worry, she won’t tell Omer about it. She just wants you to help her.
Fatih: I think you must be losing your mind. You’re giving Nilufer to me with your own hand? Is there something more to this? What kind of a game are you playing?
Mert: No crazy, we’re [not] playing a game. I love Nilufer, I do, (Fatih is not very happy at this.) Of course, you don’t understand this kind of love. You don’t have any idea how real love it. (Fatih considers this.) The real man asks for help even from his enemy for his lover’s sake. Do you understand that? That’s all it is.
Fatih: How lucky you are Fatih. Your brother is both a rebel and a loser and has a poetic soul.

We the DA walking quickly on the street, followed by Omer at a safe distance. The DA gets into a taxi and Omer runs to catch another one. He tells the driver to drive!

In her gross jail cell, Elif is reading the statement they want her to sign. She paces back and forth. She goes to tear it up but hesitates.
Elif: Dam you all!
Just then a guard enters with another prisoner, who appears to be a lady of the night.
Elif tells the guard she wants to see her lawyer. She asks when the DA will give her a hearing.
The guard tells her they will let her know when the time comes.
Elif asks her who left the paper for her.
The guard tells her that if she keeps talking like this, she’ll never see the attorney.
Her cellmate looks at her carefully.

Episode 76 #5
Cellmate: How much did you pay for this, (fingering Elif’s clothing)?
Elif: Don’t touch me.
Cellmate: Sorry, you’re not so friendly, are you? I was just trying to chat, my dear Elif, just trying to chat.
When she says her name, Elif turns to look at her: How do you know my name?
The two stare at one another for awhile.
Cellmate: I’m Saded. They’ve sent me to you as a messenger. I know a lot of things.

Back to Arda following Husseyn in a taxi. The driver asks how long they will have to wait. His shift is nearly over.
Arda: Don’t worry. The meter is still running. I’ll pay that, and if it’s not enough, I’ll pay more.
Driver: Give me some of your simit, then, it smells so delicious.
Arda gives it to him.
Finally, he sees another car drive up beside Husseyn’s. Husseyn gets out and gets in the other vehicle. Arda can’t make out the other driver. He asks the taxi driver if he can see. The driver makes a joke that Arda should have brought binoculars instead of simit, although he admits he is enjoying the simit.

Omer follows the DA to a hospital. The DA is carrying a briefcase that might have money in it. The DA waits for an ambulance to arrive. There is a young relative of the DA’s, probably his daughter, in the ambulance. He strokes her head affectionately. The medics carry the stretcher into the building, with the DA holding the patient’s hand.

Arda is still in the taxi and asks the driver to pass the car Husseyn is in fast, not slowing down. The driver doesn’t understand. Arda repeats that he needs to drive past that car without slowing down so that Arda can look into it. The driver balks, but Arda tells him to just do it. The driver complies. Arda finally sees that Ali is the driver and he hands over a fat envelope to Husseyn. [Arda takes his time looking, and I’m yelling at him to get down!] He is thinking hard as the taxi passes the danger.

We see Fatih sitting and thinking on a bench by the beach. Mert and Nilufer approach.
Mert: He came, he’s there.
Nilufer: Mert, thank you so much.
Mert: I’ll be waiting here.
Nilufer walks over to join Fatih.
Fatih: Welcome, beautiful lady. You called me for your sister?
Nilufer: Please will you help me, Fatih? You know she’s innocent. She did it all for me. You made her do it.
Fatih: Have I ever thought I’d be this desperate to hold on to your sister?
Mert is watching from a distance.
Nilufer: I will never forgive myself if she goes into prison. I’ll never forgive us! Please do something, Fatih. If you really love me like you say you do, save my sister, please.
Fatih: Don’t worry. We’ll talk about this. We will. But first I have something to say to you, too.

Episode 76 #6
Nilufer: We don’t have time to talk about it.
Fatih shakes his head: But you don’t even know what I have to say.
Nilufer: I know. You always say the same things. You say that I belong to you, that I can’t go anywhere, that whatever you say is right and should stay that way. Isn’t it true? Maybe I’m missing something, but this is exactly what you’re going to say.
Fatih: You’re wrong, beautiful girl. I came here to set you free. From now on, if you don’t want to be my wife, you don’t have to be. You don’t have to do anything. You were right. This is not going anywhere at all. It’s not working. I love you with all of my soul, but you don’t love me. And that’s fine. I don’t want to force you.
He pushes her hand away and folds his arms.
They look at one another for some time.

Back in jail. Elif asks: Who sent you? Is it Tayyar? I asked you if it’s Tayyar.
Girl: I don’t know Tayyar or anyone of a higher rank. All they said to me is this: You know that paper in which you admit everything. The one you thought about ripping up?
Elif: How do you know who I am?
Girl: Listen, that paper is the insurance of your loved one’s lives. Your two sisters, one younger one older, and especially your lover. His name is Omer or something. He just came back to life from death. You love his family, too. So, you have a lot of loved ones which means you’re in a bit of danger. You’re going to get hurt.
Elif: Are you threatening me?
Girl: Are you deaf, girl, I told you, I’m just the messenger. I didn’t threaten or anything.
Elif: I don’t want to listen to you anymore.
Girl: Uh, as if I had anything better to do than this. Wait, I’m starting to forget. This was hard to memorize. OK, I remember. They say if you care about your loved ones sign this paper, admit that you are guilty. (She starts laughing.) Oh, and I remember the most important part. Well, sign that. There’s some time. A couple of years in jail. We’ll see. We’ll take good care of your family. Nothing will happen to the company and all of your family will live well. But, if you don’t sign, then you have to choose who’s going to die first from your loved ones.
Elif looks at her incredulously.

Omer is walking to the police station and sees Sami in the parking lot.
Omer: Sir! I found out, Sir. I know how Tayyar bought the attorney. He has a daughter just like …
Sami cuts him off: It doesn’t matter anymore. It’s over. We forget about it. They’re sending me to Izmir for a desk job.
Omer: Tell me you’re joking.
Sami: I told you, didn’t I? I told you that this monster plays big, didn’t I?
Omer: I’m going to make Tayyar pay for all of this.
Sami: Omer, stop! We failed, admit it.
Omer: Please don’t talk like that.
Sami repeats himself: We just used the wrong tactic. I told you to play with transparency. To let him make a mistake. But I was wrong. Whenever we tried to force him, he would just show us his sword. He was more powerful than we thought he was. Whenever we tried to fight him, we would always be the ones losing. So, forget it. There’s no point in fighting anymore.
Omer: Please, don’t dop this. Don’t say that. Object. Do something. Don’t just tell me that we failed and that we lost, we should give up. That man is a huge criminal. Are we just going to let him live his life that way?
Sami: I’m telling you that he’s powerful, big time, and unfortunately, he has his power because of our colleagues.

Episode 76 #7
Omer: Well, that doesn’t bother me. I won’t sleep until I find them all.
Sami: OK, don’t sleep. Be ambitious. Don’t give up on anything. Every system has its weaknesses. These people, these people will do anything as long as it benefits them. But don’t forget that we are also in the system. If you don’t want to give up, then don’t do as they say. Sooner or later, the truth will be exposed and we’re just waiting for that day, and when that day comes, I’m sure we will do the right thing.
Omer: But you’re obeying by going to Izmir.
Sami: I say let them believe that. There’s nothing that we can do right now. They gave me an order. Honest people always make it. They always make it through the obstacles. And believe me I do not intend on letting this go. I’ll come back. Take care of yourself, son. Plan your moves carefully. You have a habit of putting yourself in danger. Please give up on that because you’re a good cop, devoted to his job. We need you. The public will always need you. Really, you’re a very good cop. Please don’t ever forget that.
He gives Omer a sort of salute and leaves.
[I was so busy writing down the dialogue, I didn’t get to comment on Omer’s changing expression. He must have hundreds of expressions. He is such a great actor!]
Omer is very impactado. He must feel a little encouraged, but to go on without Sami right now is going to be tough.

Back to Nilufer and Fatih on the bench.
Nilufer: Is it over now? Are we divorced because you have said it three times?
Fatih: It’s over. You’re now free to go.
Nilufer: Why am I not happy, then? Why does my heart hurt? Why can’t I breathe?
Fatih looks at her, concerned.
Nilufer: I still lo…
Fatih interrupts her: I know. You still love me, too. But you see me as a criminal, as a sinner, as a lost soul. But you are still my light. Whenever I lose my way, you’re the star that leads me. You’re the good side of me. You are my belief in good. I did you wrong without knowing. I lied to you, I regret it all but I can’t take back time. But, believe me, right now my heart is completely nak.. here. I’m not mad at you. This is not your fault. It’s just something I have to do. Nilufer, I’ve made my decision. You will always be my other half. Give me my charm/amulet too and this will all be over.
Nilufer: I won’t. At least you can leave that with me.
Fatih: Come on.
She takes it off slowly and hands it to him: You started this and now you’re ending it. Don’t I have a right to talk?
Fatih: This will always be here (and he gestures close to his heart).
They stare lovingly at one another.
Mert is still watching. His face looks like a thundercloud. Uh oh!

End of Episode 76.

Great recap Babachita! Yesterday got away from me and I forgot to comment! It was kind of a frustrating episode as not much progressed.

We did get Fatih willing to let Nilu go though, that's surprising! I wonder if seeing so much to Tayyar's manipulation up close prompts that or if it was Mert's speech? Still neither of those things will get Elif free...

And will Elif sign the confession?

Fab recap as usual, Babachita. Nice attention to the small details.

The convo between Omer and Sami was impactful. I'm sorry to see Sami go. Seems like the commissioner is an honest man and a good judge of character.

It will be interesting to watch what Arda will do with what he knows about Huseyin.

We've got 3 separate love stories going on in this dizi. Then we have Huseyin's mistress and child, too. What a mix of crime drama and romance. Ha, Omer said "love under hellfire" in the hospital.

#77 is on the way.

#77 part 1

Pelin appears in court for Cigdem’s lawsuit. The judge addresses Pelin on the stand. You are a police officer. We are considered colleagues, he says. Ms. Cigdem is accusing you of destroying a family, what do you have to say?

We see Arda rushing through the courthouse.

Pelin is upset. She hesitates to answer. We are listening, you must have a defense, the judge says to prompt her. Cigdem calls out, you’re silent now? It’s because you’re guilty! Her lawyer cautions her and the judge threatens to toss her out if she’s not quiet.

You are right, Your Honor, Pelin starts, I am a police officer who, like you, does not want to stray from the right path and I have infinite respect for this court. I never considered lying for a moment. Ms. Cigdem is accusing me of destroying her marriage. Cidgem shouts out—didn’t you?! The judge pounds the bench.

Pelin continues, but she doesn’t know that we, I mean Mr. Arda and I have known each other for years, since the academy. For us, a “devrem” (colleague) is more than a brother. So as you understand, while they were together, we didn’t do anything to jeopardize their marriage. We didn’t have a relationship.

The judge asks, what about afterwards? Ms. Cigdem and Mr. Arda separated. After they broke up, did you have a relationship? Pelin asks to explain. This is difficult after all this time. Arda and I have been close for years. But because I was a coward, I tried to suppress my feelings. I ran away from Arda and myself. But I couldn’t stay away. The judge asks, are you in a relationship with this man or not?

No I’m not, Pelo replies, no I’m not. But Ms. Cigdem is right, I’ve been in love with Arda since the first day that I met him. Cigdem springs from her seat—you heard her, judge! She confessed! She admitted everything! The judge shouts for silence. We see that Arda has been listening by the door with happy tears in his eyes. Cigdem continues to condemn Pelo.

Elif and her cellmate sit silently in the dank cell. A guard comes and calls for the cellmate. She stops on the way and whispers to Elif, look, girl, one or two years pass fast in prison. You won’t die. You should think about your family. Think about Omer. Sign it. The guard takes her away. Elif pleads with the officer. Help me. This woman threatened me. They are trying to manipulate me, please call my lawyer. I beg you. The guard walks away. Call my lawyer, Elif shouts. She thinks about what the cellmate told her.

Omer comes to see his colleague, Tolga. He says, Elif’s being detained on the basement level. On the left, Tolga asks. Please, Omer asks, I have to reach Elif somehow. You’ll have to be a bird and fly, Tolga replies, or it’s impossible. Then help me, Omer says, there must be a way. Tolga thinks. He says the cell she’s in has a little window. But they put guards everywhere in the yard. No one is allowed there.

Elif cries and paces. She glances over at the statement on the bench. She goes over, sits and picks up the paper. She puts the pen to the paper, ready to sign. Then puts them down. All of a sudden, she hears a distant voice—Elif, Elif, I’m here! It’s Omer. She drags the bench to the window. Omer!

We see Omer several windows away from her but they are unable to see each other. I’m here, he calls out, I have no idea if you can hear me. I tried to reach you but they didn’t let me. They left me no other choice. My Elif, even if my voice doesn’t reach you, I know my feelings will. I’m this close to you. They may have forbidden us from seeing each other. Your eyes are forbidden to me. Your skin is forbidden, your scent is forbidden. Let it be so. I can’t look at you but I see you. I know you see me, too, but they don’t know that.

#77 part 2

Elif is crying. Omer continues, Elif, I’ve memorized you so well, the tears in your eyes, your cold cheeks, the trembling of your beautiful hands. We are far apart for now, but don’t be afraid. If necessary, I will risk my life to get you out of this hole. You haven’t been intimidated by any difficulty until today and these cold walls will not intimidate you either. Okay? Signorina, you’ve always believed in me, haven’t you? Believe again, trust again, okay?

Elf shouts, Omer! Omer! Where are you? He can’t hear. A guard comes to Omer’s window. Komiser, what are you doing? Come away from there. Omer pleads, please brother, don’t interfere. Elif gives a huge shout and Omer hears her. He opens a closer window and shouts back—Elif! Elif, I’m here. I’ll save you!

A cop comes into the room. Omer slugs him. Another arrives and Omer slugs him, too. Omer has hurt himself and he grabs his shoulder. He goes back to the window. Elif! They can’t separate us! I love you so much! She cries out, Omer, don’t go! She sobs and steps down from the window. Once again, she picks up the paper and pen. Tears stream down her face. She signs.

Omer calls out, Elif don’t give up hope! I’ll save you! Bring the sun closer to us. Bring the stars closer too. We can’t be separated. Hold on, Elif, hold on! More cops come to get Omer. He warns them, if anything happens to that girl, you’ll regret being born. They back off.

Elif shouts in Italian—I need you. They are threatening me. Can you hear me? I’m here, he answers. The cop asks Omer to leave and he holds back the other one from grabbing Omer. Elif continues in Italian, they gave me a petition. If I don’t sign it, they will kill you or my family. What should I do?

The arresting cop enters the room. What’s going on here? Get him out of the room, hurry! Omer won’t let them touch him. He’ll go. Elif screams for Omer and bangs on the window. Arresting cop tells the others to see Omer out. And tell him we are not filming a love story. We are here to keep the citizens safe.

Omer wheels around and punches the arresting officer. Say it again! Huseyin rushes over. Are you out of your mind? The cop shouts, I’ll remember this Omer, if you ever interfere again, I swear I’ll… Go on, Omer replies, say it. Huseyin tells Omer to calm down. He tells the cop he will take care of Omer.

Huseyin asks Omer, what are you doing? Omer says he only wants justice. By fighting with colleagues, Huseyin replies, you’re out of control! Huseyin reaches out and Omer pulls away. Omer’s shoulder hurts. Huseyin is worried.

Cigdem makes a scene outside of the courtroom. She shouts at Pelo, go to hell! Don’t you ever feel ashamed? Ashamed when you ate my food? Slept in the bed I made for you? Arda holds Cigdem back. She continues to shout, how did you trick my husband? Arda tells her enough. You’re making a fool of yourself.

It’s not me who’s the fool, Cigdem replies, it’s her. She points—this woman! Everyone in the hallway is looking. Let everyone here know that this woman took my husband from me. She ruined my home, my marriage. Pelo answers, it’s not the way you think it is. I swear, we didn’t cheat on you. A guard comes and tells them all to leave. There are hearings going on.

Cigdem continues spewing poison. Arda demands she behave and holds her back. She tells him he’s only strict with her, not with his mistress. Is she too good to be touched? Arda warns her to watch her language. The guard threatens them with legal proceedings if they don’t leave. Pelin starts to go and Cigdem keeps shouting at her. We find out the case was dropped. Arda shouts at Cigdem, whatever… this marriage is over. Bitti!

#77 part 3

Pelo and Arda get away from that howler monkey. He tells her that nothing Cigdem said matters. What did I do, Pelo wonders. He takes her hand. You have behaved like the woman I love. He won’t let go of her hand. Don’t be afraid, he tells her. Pelo moves her hand so their fingers intertwine. They leave that way. We see Cigdem watching and fuming. She’s plotting for sure.

Fatih tells Nilu that their relationship has become gangrenous and it needs to be cut off. But don’t worry, he tells her, you’ll get used to my absence quickly. She asks, is this your last word? It’s not my last word, he replies, life says this. We are out of words. Nilu starts to cry. Fatih gives a bag to Nilu. It’s for Elif’s bail, 7K in TL.

Huseyin has brought Omer to the hospital. He is in a lot of pain. The doc says that Omer needs an operation right away. I’ll start the admissions procedure, he says, and we’ll do the surgery in the morning. Omer says he can’t do that. The doc warns him that he may never be able to use his arm again. Omer understands but he says he has things to do. Huseyin asks him, is it more important than your life? Yes, Omer answers, you made me come here, but now I’m leaving. Huseyin chases after Omer.

I understand, Huseyin says, you have a very noble heart. You do everything for your loved ones. Me… mom… aren’t we your loved ones, too? If you won’t do it for yourself, do it for us. I won’t let my brother become crippled. Will you become half a man right before my eyes? I can’t be here before you save Elif, Omer replies, right now there’s only Elif. Omer walks out.

Omer heads for a taxi. Huseyin tells him to wait. He insists that Omer stay in the hospital. Omer refuses. Huseyin asks, do you think I won’t be able to save the girl you love? When have I ever not held your hand? I risked my life for you. Why don’t you believe me? I’ll do this, your brother, Huseyin Demir!

Omer opens the taxi door. Huseyin shuts it and says, you’ve never fallen flat on your face. Never been splattered on the asphalt at full speed. You don’t know the pain of getting back up. I threw myself to the ground so you wouldn’t know this pain, so not a single tear would fall from your eyes. You’ll be incomplete, son. You’ll die every single day. Let me do this for you. Let me pay for it.

You’re wrong, Omer says, the day Sibel died, I was splattered on the ground. The day I learned she was a smuggler, the day I was suspended, the day that Metin escaped from us. The day they took Elif into custody. I fell on the ground many times, but I stood up again and if I hadn’t stood up, I’d be half a man now. So what did you do, Huseyin? You kept on saying you’d deal with things. All I remember is you saying “stop, brother”, “don’t do this, brother”. Do you really believe you were setting a good example? Sometimes speaking is less dangerous than doing.

Omer goes to the other side of the taxi and opens the door. Huseyin calls out, Omer… Okay, Omer replies, show me I’m wrong, prove it. Save the girl I love and I promise I’ll apologize. Omer gets in the cab, leaving a dejected Huseyin standing in the street.

Fatih tells Nilu there is nothing else he can do for Elif. I need help, not money, Nilu replies. I have nothing in hand about Elif, he says, not even a document. I have my freedom in return for hers. I can’t go to jail right now. I love you but I can’t do this.

kpa
#77 part 4

I’m trying to give you one more chance to rescue yourself from this horrible life, Nilu answers. Do you realize what you expect from me, he asks, have you ever been a prisoner? Yes, she says, did you forget I was your hostage? I still am. But you are also a hostage in your own jail. You’re not doing this because of your father, but because you want to. You don’t want to reject power and money… just like my father. But now he’s in the ground. This life ends in either prison or the grave. But my sister is not like you. She’s innocent. Her place is outside. Sooner or later, everything will become clear and she’ll get out.

Nilu picks up the bag of money. I’m taking this, but don’t feel good believing you did something to help me. When you finally get out of your own jail, and become the real Fatih, then you will have done something for me.

Nilu walks back to Mert. He asks, what did he say? What happened? Nilu doesn’t want to talk. Mert presses. Nilu cries, he made me fall in love with him again. He looked at me again in a different way than anybody else. He again did something no one else could do. Do you feel better now, Mert? Nilu walks and Mert stares back at Fatih.

Levent is at the Denizer home, talking business with Asli. Is the situation that bad, she asks. Elif is not only the owner of the business, but the designer, he replies, now it has a bad reputation in the eyes of the clients. They started acting like the jewelry has something to do with the crime. What do we do now, Asli asks. Elif will get out of that hole. Omer won’t leave her like that. How will we handle this while she’s away? She worked so hard, will we let it go bankrupt? We’ll do our best, Levent replies, I’ve already arranged a meeting with PR and the advertising company.

The doorbell rings. It’s Omer. He’s not happy to see Levent there and the feeling is mutual. Asli asks, what happened? Did you see Elif? Omer asks to talk to her alone. Asli says that Levent isn’t a stranger, they can talk in front of him. He should know if it’s about Elif. Omer calls it a family matter and it’s not business related. It’s tense for a moment and then Levent grabs his things to go. He tells Asli he’ll be back tomorrow. Asli asks, what’s the point of creating this tension, komiser? I mean the kid is trying to help us. We all need to stick together to help Elif, right? Omer asks, do you know Italian?

Huseyin rushes into Ali’s office. Ali asks, where have you been? I forced Omer to go to the doctor, he replies. Ali snarks, so how’s our pasha doing? Not good, Huseyin answers, will you throw a party to celebrate? Ali warns him, don’t cause problems, get out. Huseyin cautions, Arda will be the real problem, he says he saw us. You’re out of your mind, Ali says, did you see this in a nightmare? Look at me, Huseyin says, am I laughing? Arda is on my back! He showed my photo to Nevin. He followed us the day I met with you. He saw us in the car. He will tell Omer and if he hears this, he will put us both behind bars.

Ali comes up with a ridiculous explanation. Do you think my colleagues are stupid, Huseyin replies. You will help me, Ali. Otherwise, it’s the end for both of us. Okay, let’s say you’re right, and Arda is suspicious, Ali answers, what does it have to do with me? I’m the person who’s going to help you. It’s Tayyar, go cry to him. Not the answer that Huseyin was looking for.

Asli tries to help. She asks Omer to repeat what Elif said. Omer repeats the Italian Elif spoke. Asli doesn’t understand. She gets some words. Asli thinks it means that Elif just misses him. There was no message. She gets worked up. Omer asks her to stay calm. He’s sure that Elif was trying to send a message otherwise she would have spoken in Turkish. Asli is ready to try again and says, think and remember, Omer.

#77 part 5

Omer concentrates and hears Elif’s words. Yes, Asli says, it’s a threat. They threatened her. But how? Omer remembers more, the part about giving Elif a petition. Okay, but why did they make her sign it? Asli jumps up. Allah, Allah! Omer, “uccidere” means kill, “famiglia” means family. They gave Elif the petition and if she doesn’t sign it, they threatened to kill you or her family. Omer heads for the door. Where are you going, she asks. Just wait here, please, Omer replies, wait at home.

Nilu and Mert arrive home as Omer is leaving. He asks Nilu, has Fatih called you? Nilu and Mert look at each other. Nilu says he hasn’t, but she’ll let Omer know. Looks like Omer doesn’t believe her, but he lets it go. Asli comes to the door and shouts to Omer—let me know! He nods.

Omer calls Arda, who is still holding hands with Pelo. Are you working on something? I need to tell you something urgently. Arda says he’s on his way to the station. Omer says, Nilu is meeting with Fatih. Can one of you follow her? Arda thought Sami was watching. Omer says Sami is no longer on the case. It’s only us. Tell Pelo to watch Nilu. Arda passes this along to Pelo. She’s thrilled to be working. He won’t let go of her hand. They talk about their status as a couple. Pelo says, let me be clear. I’m not your property. Arda smiles and gives her a sweet little kiss. You are my girlfriend, he tells her. They put their arms around each other and start walking.

Elif paces in her cell. The door opens. It’s the arresting cop. He asks for the statement. They stare each other down. A cop enters and calls him away on an urgent matter.

Meanwhile, Omer is fiddling with his lighter and waiting to see the police commissioner. Omer enters the office and the commish welcomes him. This commish is friendly with Sami, who helped to set this meeting up for Omer. The commish asks Omer how he’s feeling. Omer says he’s fine, but there are other issues. You heard about Sami. Yes, the commish says, I heard but I don’t understand how this happened. Sami is a unique officer. Omer asks the commish to allow him to explain everything in full detail. The commish nods.

Omer begins, I haven’t come for 2 days not to surpass the DA but unfortunately, some problems at the department don’t come to you. Commish asks, what kind of problems? Well, Sami must have told you about the money laundering gang, Omer answers. Yes. Omer continues, the DA took my fiancé into custody. Now he’s leading a group of people threatening her in jail. Do you know what you’re saying, the commish asks.

The arresting cop returns to Elif. He waves a key in front of her. He opens the cell and walks in. Give me the petition. Elif says, no, there is no petition. She tore it up. He asks for the pieces. She says she ate them. He shouts, do you think I’m stupid? He pushes her against the wall. Let’s see if you ate them! Omer komiser seems to have good taste. You’re beautiful.

Elif pushes him off. Don’t ever touch me! He replies, why? I think you’d like it. There’s no one here but you and me. No one will hear you scream. Your Omer won’t be able to save you now. Elif cries. He continues, if you get along well with me, I’ll help you out. I have influential friends, they will take good care of you in prison. Elif shouts and pushes past him. He grabs her.

A cop comes in. The police commissioner called. He has an order, we need to leave here. Elif continues to cry out. The cop lets her go and leaves. The cell is locked. Elif sobs.

And we are out.

Hello Dondi and Darcy,

In the English-dubbed version I am watching, episodes 77 and 78 are identical. I can’t tell if 79 is the next episode. There is a scene about halfway through 79 with Elif in a jail cell but it’s not the creepy jail cell. So, maybe there’s another Episode 78 somewhere?

A mystery, for sure!

I found the Spanish 78 that seems to be the right one. I can watch that one, no problem.

Thank you Dondi! Excellent recap as always!

That guy in Elif's cell was CREEPY!!! So many dirty cops in this... that's always so disturbing to me in TV shows and movies. I mean I could see having one bad cop or two or three but when you have whole pockets of them it just seems unbelievable - or at least you want to think it's unbelievable.

I'm glad the case against Pelo was thrown out. Cigdem is nutty! How does having feelings for someone cause the breakup of a family or equate to a confession of anything? You have to take an actual action in order to be guilty of such a thing. Besides, didn't she leave Arda herself?

I was wondering about the Italian during the episode because the Spanish dubbed episode didn't translate it, so your recap made it clear - both the reason Elif spoke in Italian and that I wasn't going crazy lol

This episode was unsettling because of that awful cell. I was really anxious for Elif, so I’m very into this show. Arda’s wife was vengeful and did herself no favors. I hope that’s the last of her. I’m impactda by Fatih and Nilufer…and Mert. Where will this lead?

Thank you for explaining it all, Dondi!

KPA 78 part 1 of 4

Huseyin is out in front of his boat again – drinking, warming himself by a fire and listening to sad music. All I can think is Omer was right, Huseyin is clearly not off trying to save the woman Omer loves. Ali arrives and Huseyin doesn’t appear to be happy to see him. He asks if Tayyar accepted the meeting but apparently Tayyar only accepted to meet with Ali. Maybe Tayyar is still holding a grudge because Huseyin tried to kill him? Ali doesn’t want to be the middleman and Huseyin is frustrated.

Elif is alone in her dark, dank cell shivering when she hears footsteps slowly headed her way and the fear sets in. I thought for sure it would be Omer from the slow walk approach and the way the camera only showed the feet, but it isn’t Omer. It’s two men, the first of which tells Elif they are here to get her, and she panics says she isn’t going anywhere with anyone until she talks to her lawyer! But then we see the second man, and it’s Tolga! He tries to tell Elif that it’s okay and they are friends of Omer’s but she’s too upset to process this as she tries to push him away. He repeats himself and tells her they are there to bring her to a better place, but they need her to please not make a scene. When the words register, she asks if he’s really Omer’s friend and Tolga gives her a message from Omer telling Elif not to worry, that they’re bringing her back to reality…he calls her Signorina! Elif stops fighting and starts crying as hope tries to let go of her fear, she smiles at Tolga who gives her a compassionate look.

Pelo is waiting for Arda in the car, and he arrives with coffee. He hands it to her and calls her ‘my love’ which starts up a silly conversation about pet names and which one Pelo would be most comfortable with. It seems she’s not quite comfortable with any of them since she’s not a teenager. She then teases that she understands why Arda fell in love with her - she’s pretty, intelligent, all her friends love her; but she’s not sure why she fell in love with him! But you did, he declares, you did!

Asli is working at the dinning room table and Nilu comes in. It’s actually pretty funny when Asli tells her to go away and come back later if she has bad news because she can’t take it right now! But Nilu assures her it’s not bad news. She then shows her the big ol’ bag of cash! She claims it’s from their auntie though! Or the Bitter Aunt as Asli calls her. Nilu explains it’s to pay Elif’s bail and Asli is excited! The only thorn in Nilu’s plan is Asli wants to call Auntie and thank her but Nilu manages to talk her out of it by making up some lie about their bitter aunt traveling in Europe that made no sense since Nilu was supposedly able to get ahold of her, but whatever’s clever, I guess.

Tolga brings Elif upstairs out of the basement and into a lighted cell! This one has a pillow and a blanket, and he even brought her tea to warm her up and a sandwich! Elif still can’t see Omer but Tolga gives her the news that Omer understood her message in Italian and he doesn’t want her to be scared; they are more powerful than their adversaries. Elif is very encouraged by this news. Tolga asks if Elif still has the paper they wanted her to sign and he hopes she didn’t trash it and Elif says no, she told them she ate it but she lied. She pulls the paper out of her pocket and gives it to Tolga. Perfect! He says. I have to wonder if Elif has just a moment of doubting if she can trust him but all she says is thank you. Tolga leaves and Elif sits down to drink her tea.

Arda and Pelo are now out on a dock and Arda is getting them food, there’s more talk about romance and pet names but they turn to business when Omer arrives. Pelo tells Omer that Nilu didn’t leave the house while they were there. Omer fills Arda and Pelo in on the daughter of the fiscal – she has a serious disease but they found a cure in the US! Guess who’s funding the trip? Tayyar Dundar.

KPA 78 part 2 of 4

Speaking of the devil, he’s eating dinner at some restaurant when Ali arrives. And why does he make even eating soup look creepy? They start talking about the type of food but I didn’t really follow it. I do know Tayyar said something about his doctor recommending it for his health which made Ali suspicious about Tayyar possibly having a health concern but Tayyar downplayed it, then changed the subject. He wanted good news but Ali has bad. Somehow Elif was able to communicate with Omer and let him know she was being threatened, Omer went to the Commissioner and they changed all the staff around Elif! Now Ali can’t get near her. Tayyar wants to know who this Commissioner is, perhaps he should deal with him? Ali rolls his eyes, does Tayyar think the police station is his own palace and he’s the king? He can’t just do whatever he wants. Ali says there’s one more thing. What? Tayyar demands. All you have is bad news tonight, I can’t even enjoy my food. Ali says I’ll let him tell you then, and Huseyin walks in.

Omer tells Arda and Pelo that his plan is to get to the fiscal without Tayyar finding out. It’s the only thing he can think of. Pelo thinks it’s a good plan but very risky and Omer says he doesn’t want to put them in a risky position. Pelo says she’s already suspended so she has no problems, she’s in. She can’t speak for Arda though. Arda says there is no good intrigue without Arda! He volunteers to go undercover and approach the fiscal as one of Tayyar’s men but Pelo laughs and says no way! Arda doesn’t have the bad guy face, he’d never pull it off! He looks more like a little boy who lost his chocolate bar. Pelo laughs and Arda scoffs, why are you doing this to me my love, he asks kissing her hand. Omer is amused and confused. Is he missing something here? Why isn’t Pelo hitting Arda as always for such a move? Arda clues Omer in that things have changed and tells his friend that Pelo is the first woman to declare her love in open court! Omer wants to hear more but Pelo is embarrassed and tells them to talk about it, later man to man right now they have to focus on saving Elif! Arda says he just wants everyone to find love the way he has!

Tayyar is telling Huseyin what his main problem is and I’m pretty sure it’s Tayyar himself but he said something about the system or Huseyin fighting against the system. Huseyin didn’t look impressed and Tayyar concluded he doesn’t care about Huseyin’s problems anyway, he wants results. Huseyin has as much patience for Tayyar as always, and tries to convince Tayyar that he needs to let Elif go (so maybe he is trying to free the woman Omer loves after all). Tayyar says no way but Huseyin says Tayyar is blind. Omer convinced the Commissioner today and he’ll convince the judge tomorrow; this plan of Tayyar’s is stupid, Omer isn’t going to stop until Elif is free. Tayyar says this was his plan; to keep Omer focused on Elif so he’d leave him and Fatih alone. Huseyin doesn’t buy that, Tayyar is trying to punish Elif, besides Huseyin asks, what happens when he comes after you to get to Elif? This makes Tayyar pause, what about Arda? Surprisingly, Huseyin doesn’t look happy with this suggestion either (I would have thought he’d jump at the chance to get rid of the guy who suspects him)

Omer says goodbye to Arda and Pelo at the food truck thanking them again for their help. Arda watches him walk away feeling guilty about the fact that he couldn’t bring himself to tell him about Huseyin! Pelo says Arda has no proof! For right now all he has is suspicions and accusations! She walks off in a huff. Arda stalks off after her declaring for all of viewervile to hear that Pelo too suspects Huseyin!

KPA 78 part 3 of 4

Back to the talk about killing Arda!! And Huseyin is against it! Arda is young and brilliant and much more than just a friend to Omer, if they do that Omer will go crazy! It will bring suspicion down on the whole department! Tayyar doesn’t know what they can do then, they can’t free Elif after everything they’ve done to frame her – that would look suspicious!!! But Huseyin thinks they can prove Elif is innocent. Elif will get out of jail and then she’ll be completely preoccupied with Omer’s health just like she was in the hospital. She can get Omer to focus on recovering and that will get the heat off of all of them. Otherwise, Omer WILL get them! Tayyar said he would never trap Fatih and he did, he’ll get them too! Tayyar and Ali seriously consider Huseyin’s words. Tayyar wants to know, what is the plan? Huseyin says they sacrifice one of Tayyar’s men, one no one knows and make him take the wall. It’s one who had something to do with Elif’s frame job. I hope it’s the one who tried to rape Elif!!!

Asli is staring out the window looking worried when Omer shows up and she asks for news. Elif is better but Omer hasn’t seen her. Omer tells Asli he has a plan to help Elif. He tells her about the illness of the fiscal’s daughter and the expensive surgery that Tayyar plans to pay for. Omer wants to raise money to offer to pay instead! Win the fiscal’s loyalty and get him to turn on Tayyar. Asli must know people with money who she can ask to contribute to the cause! Asli says people with money are unreliable, they are never there when you need them. Omer says it’s the only way, and Asli doesn’t know what to do but suddenly she remembers Nilu’s big ol’ bag of cash and says wait here! She runs to Nilu’s room and asks for the money since Omer is here. Nilu figures Omer is taking the money for bail, so she gives it up and Asli takes it and runs. Back downstairs Asli finds Omer gazing lovingly at a photo of Elif and says he must really miss her. He does. Asli hands off the bag saying look what I found lying around. Omer wants to know where she got all that money and Asli tells him the story about the bitter aunt because she believes it to be true but she’s inadvertently putting Omer in a bad spot if he ends up using Fatih’s presumably dirty money in this operation.

Arda and Pelo are at home and Arda is trying to dress as one of Tayyar’s men. Pelo thinks it’s a fail; and tries to give him alternate clothes to wear. Arda tries to tell her to be encouraging for once and refer to him as her love, lol. He seems to be pacified when she starts taking his shirt off and he thanks her. She made him so happy today! His heart had never raced that fast before, he felt like a teenager! Pelo says, me too and they share a big hug.

Tolga is trustworthy after all, I didn’t really doubt, but after everything Elif has been through how to do not have a moment of asking what if, you know? He’s talking with Omer, and he hands over the paper with the false confession they tried to get Elif to sign. He tells Omer that Elif was scared to death when they found her and she’s a little depressed but she’s strong and she has Omer to support her, so she’ll be okay. Omer thanks his buddy very much and tries to be strong and leave but he just can’t! He goes back to beg. He doesn’t want to put his friend in a bad spot or take advantage of him, but he NEEDS to see Elif! Even if it’s just for a minute or from a distance. He needs to see her, and she needs to see him! Tolga says no at first, it’s against the rules and he can’t; but he does. He lets Omer back to Elif’s cell for five minutes, but he draws the line at opening the door! LOL.

KPA 78 part 4 of 4

Omer finds Elif sleeping and looks at her for a minute but then wakes her with a Signorina! She jumps up and hurries to touch her love. They put their hands to each other’s faces and Elif says you’re really here, I can touch you! Omer promises her this will be her last night here. He’s going to get her out!!! Does she trust him? She does. Elif says she’s worried about him, she doesn’t want anything to happen to him because of her. She’d die if it did. Omer says he’d give his life for her! Elif is worried about Omer’s arm and asks if he’s taking care of himself. He says he’s taking all his medicines and she says who’s the liar now? Lol They continue to touch and talk until Tolga returns and says the chief is coming. Omer and Elif say goodbye declaring their love to one another but then Omer runs back as if he just can’t help it and kisses Elif twice before walking off again. This time he makes it out the door and Tolga locks it behind him, but Omer looks back at Elif for a long minute and they hold eye contact. Once Omer is truly gone Elif starts crying and Omer walks solemnly to a bench to wait as they both try to believe this will pass.

Huseyin shows up at the police station and greets Omer, he wants Omer to come to the house so they can talk. Omer isn’t in the mood. He isn’t friendly at all to his brother and outright refuses to leave. He’s waiting for Pelo and Arda they are going to meet up. Huseyin says P+A are coming too! It’s a group meet-up, Omer didn’t think Huseyin would look after the woman he loved? Well, he did it! He got the smoking gun, it’s in their hands, now come hear about it! Huseyin walks out like the cat that ate the canary and Omer slowly follows with a confused look on his face.
