#36 part 1

Rewind of breakfast.
Asuman has had enough and asks permission to leave the table. Fuat gets up to follow her, but Ifakat stops him. Don’t go, she says, leave her alone. Orhan suggests that Ferit and Seyran go out and spend time together.

Hattuc wonders where Kazim is. He must have lost his mind after being hit on the head. She looks at Suna, when you get married, we’ll have to spend the rest of our lives dealing with him. Esme asks, how is this my daughter’s fault? Hattuc answers, so why did he get so mad? You shouldn’t hide anything from your father.

Doorbell rings. Hattuc sends Esme to make coffee. Suna goes to answer. It’s Kazim. What did you do, Hattuc asks him. Give me a moment and I’ll tell you, he replies. Kazim glares at Suna. Look me in the face. The driver is waiting for you downstairs. You’ll go to the yali and stay there. Suna gives slight smile and she turns to go.

Wait, Kazim says, come closer. Listen carefully. The tolerance I’ve shown you and your sister is over. You are on Sirat Bridge and you could fall. [in Islam, the bridge that spans over Hell that all must cross on the Day of Judgment to reach Paradise.] You’ll be my eyes and ears in that house. What’s happening, who’s doing what with whom, you’ll tell me everything. Understand?

Suna is silent. Kazim shouts—I’m talking to you! Look at me! Suna flinches. Okay, Dad. He shouts again and approaches her. Kow what will happen if I find out you’re lying even a little? Go! Get ready, don’t keep Ifakat waiting!

Hattuc asks Kazim if he found out what happened. They said the photo was old, he replies, this happened before he got married. The Korhans are a great family. Someone found it and published it now. That’s what they said. How can you be sure, Hattuc asks, I don’t trust the boy.

Kazim says that Halis Aga knows. I spoke with him. Let’s say they are lying to me, but how could they lie to him? He would bring the yali down on their heads, you know him. Hattuc nods. When a drop of mud falls into the water, it spreads. This is a disaster. I hope it’s not a lie. I hope so too, Kazim says. He shouts at Esme—where’s that coffee!

Pelin is looking at the article on her phone. Burak was there and he tells her he’s leaving. He sees she’s upset and goes to sit with her. Now what, Burak, she asks, what if my mother finds out it’s me? Don’t be silly, he replies, only Ferit’s face is clear. [the others are blurred out.]

Burak takes the phone from her. I miss my cousin, he tells her, be like you were before. What should I do, she asks, what do you want me to do? I don’t see him, I don’t answer his calls, I don’t send texts. You’re behaving like a teenager. Answer or call and say you are ending this relationship. Give the final word on the matter. Pelin is weepy. I don’t want to break up, I just feel forced to do it. Burak asks if this is about what Ferit’s mother said. She’s right, Pelo replies, this relationship hurts Ferit. It can only get worse.

Burak says, don’t you see? You are the victim here. Look at yourself. Think about yourself half as much as you think of him. Fine, Pelo answers, I’ll think of myself. What will happen? Let me go out, pretend to be happy, meet guys, get drunk. Do you want me to find a lover? Excuse me for being upset!

I can see Jasmine tomorrow, Burak says. He suggests they go out together—go for a walk… see a romantic movie or drama and cry. Pelo tells him to go see his girl. Don’t leave her alone like this. He gives her a kiss on the head and tells her to call if she gets bored.

#36 part 2

Yusuf calls Pelo. This is a disaster. Kazim Bey came to the house. Pelo worries, did he do something to Ferit? No, Yusuf replies, he dodged that bullet. He’s on good terms with Seyran and they’re going out later. Of course, why should she be upset, Pelo says with aggravation, I’m the one picking up Ferit from the clubs, not her.

Yusuf has a brief flashback to Ferit telling him he should be afraid of him. You should have told me sooner, he says, at least Seyran would have known. We had a big fight, Pelo replies, I wasn’t thinking. Look, I don’t care anymore. I don’t want to know any news. Are you sure, he asks. Ferit says he wants to be a father. Everyone is talking about it. Pelo is upset by this, but she says she’s sure. I have something to do now. I’ll call you. She hangs up, throws her phone and screams and cries. She throws photos of herself with Ferit and sinks to the floor.

Abidin brings Suna to the yali. He walks her to the door. You seem nervous, he says. [he looks more nervous than she does.] I’m scared of Ifakat Hanim, she replies. He smiles. Can I ask you something, she says, it’s about Ifakat Hanim. Why does the family listen to her so much? Abi answers, when her husband, Halis Aga’s older son, died, she became a widow. Halis Aga must look after what is left from his son, and he gave her the huge responsibility of the yali at age 19. Here, the word of Ifakat Hanim is the same as Halis Aga’s.

Seyfer exit the house and cross paths with Absun. The sisters greet each other. Ferit looks depressed. Suna asks how are you? As you can see, Seyran answers. Ferit says, they kicked us out of the house. Suna is concerned, did something bad happen? Don’t worry about him, Seyro replies, nothing happened. Dicle passes by and Ferit asks her to take Suna to Ifakat. Abi asks, where are we going? I’ll tell you, Ferit says, let’s go.

The staff gossip in the kitchen about the morning’s incident. This isn’t easy, Sefika comments, one fly comes and everyone gets upset. This wasn’t minor, Dicle says, that man was furious. He almost took his daughter. That’s not so easy to do, Sefika says. Why isn’t it, Sultan asks, they don’t have children or anything else keeping them together.

Dicle makes flirty eyes in Yusuf’s direction. He looks nervous. Sultan continues, I’d understand if they had children, but they don’t. This Kazim Bey… when you see him, your hair stands on end. He’s unpredictable. Ferit Bey loves his wife, Sefika says, Halis Aga will soon have his grandchild. Yusuf is upset at this. Sultan is skeptical. Sefika asks, and what is it you know, Sultan Hanim? She doesn’t answer.

Abi asks, where are we going? What will we do? Ferit says, call Taylan. I’d like to see him. Abi doesn’t like that idea. I said call him, Ferit repeats, I need to talk to him. This happened because of him and he expects me to keep quiet? Not possible. Don’t exaggerate, Abi answers, that case is closed. It’s not closed, Ferit replies, he can’t do this to me. Who does he think he is? I had to hear so much because of him.

Abi warns, I know you, you’ll make a scene and get into more trouble. Don’t do it. Do you think I want your advice, Ferit asks, call him. If not, I’ll do it. Seyran steps in—Ferit, calm down. I’m calm, Ferit says, don’t worry. Call him, Abidin. Seyran worries.

Ifakat shows Suna to her room. She says, I know your life has changed so much in so little time. You’ve been through so much. We all have. But once you enter this room, leave it all behind. Suna nods. Ifakat says, there’s your closet. Your clothes are inside.

golden
#36 part 3

Suna thanks her. She opens the closet and says there’s no packaging on them. Ifakat doesn’t understand. Suna doesn’t explain. She says it’s very nice, thank you. Ifakat says, this room… the clothes… they are all meaningless things you can buy. Look what we did in a few days. But can you build self-esteem in a few hours? Do you understand? Suna says yes.

Ifakat asks, how do you feel at home? How do you feel on the street or in front of a mirror? Don’t hesitate, tell me. Suna hesitates. I don’t know, she answers. She looks at herself in the mirror. She looks down. I’m just like anyone else. I never thought about it. Seyran and my mother love me. That’s all.

You must value yourself first, Ifakat replies, everyone else will value you later. If you don’t value yourself, why should anyone else? Suna asks, do you think I’m valuable? If you are looking for the answer in others, you won’t find it, Ifakat says. Come we have work to do. She opens the closet and takes out a dress. Suna heads for the bathroom to change. Do it here, Ifakat orders. Suna nervously undresses in front of Ifakat’s creepy gaze.

Taylan is waiting at a park. Seyran says this seems like a quiet place. Ferit says that’s good. Abi starts to get out of the car. Ferit says he’ll go alone. Seyran is anxious and so is Abi. Ferit assures them nothing will happen. You’re telling us to be calm, Seyran replies, but are you calm? You promised you wouldn’t fight. Ferit says he won’t. I’ll just talk a little bit and come back. Don’t get out.

Taylan is sitting on a bench smugly looking at the masterpiece he published. Ferit sits next to him. Looking for company, Taylan Bey? Ferit Bey, let me tell you something, Taylan replies, you look great in this photo. Better than usual. I got it at the right moment. Exactly, Ferit asks, why did you do that? The truth is I have a little obsession with guys who cheat on their wives, Taylan says. When I catch them, I want all society to see and know these immoral men.

Where does this obsession come from, Ferit asks, did your father cheat a lot? Drop the moral act. We have already spoke about this. I brought my wife and we explained everything. But you obviously have something against me. You have a big problem. I’m good at fixing problems.

Taylan has been smirking and smiling while Ferit talks. Listen to yourself, he says, you’re a pathetic predator who has no value other than your father’s money. If you had a little honor, you wouldn’t have dragged you wife to have me cover up your lie.

Seyran and Abi are watching from the car. Seyran gives a big exhale. I don’t understand. Are they nervous or calm? It’s impossible for Ferit to stay calm if that man doesn’t obey, Abi says. Seyran thinks Ferit will stay calm. He promised. Inshallah, Abi replies, you don’t know him yet. Look at him. He’s going crazy. Look at his hand. Seyro asks, what about his hand? First, he puts it on his forehead and pretends to think, Abi says, then he hits the guy.

Stop smiling at me like that, Ferit says. What lie did I tell you? I know that girl, Pelin, is your lover, Tayyar replies. Her voice is as pretty as she is. Ferit leans in, listen to me. I’m going to stick your tongue down your throat. Oooh, Taylan, mocks, calm down champ. Do I look dumb enough to write something without confirmation? Ferit asks, is that why you hid her face? Did you make a deal? Maybe I did much more with her, Taylan provokes.

golden
#36 part 4

Ferit laughs, sure… sure… I’m not going to get mad. I won’t fall for your game. I promised my wife I wouldn’t hit you. Taylan continues to provoke Ferit. Did you say you’re not going to hit me? Did you want to beat me up? With those eyebrows? Have you looked in the mirror? Do you see your size? People like you can’t do it on their own, they call their friends. BTW, where is your guard dog? I don’t see him. Taylan spots the car and waves. Of course, he’s here. Good boy. Your woman is here, too.

I won’t do it, Ferit says, but I will make you eat your words one at a time. He pats Taylan’s face. Okay? Ferit gets up and starts to walk away. Taylan gets up and calls after Ferit, Give your wife my regards. Maybe someday she’ll have problems. Maybe I’ll catch her one night like I did you. Ferit stops. Taylan continues, I’m sure she’ll put up with you once more, and then she’ll greet the nights of Istanbul… and the men of Istanbul.

Ferit closes his eyes and takes a breath. He puts his hand to his forehead. Abi sees the signal. Damn… I told you… let’s go. Seyro and Abi jump out of the car. Ferit turns and walks back to Taylan. He delivers a punch that Taylan ducks. Ferit punches him in the gut. Taylan falls. Ferit gets on top of him—I swear I’ll kill you. He beats him. We see that someone else is there taking photos.

Abi pulls Ferit away but he gets loose and goes back to beating Taylan. Seyro stands by and begs him to stop. Abi pulls Ferit away again. Seyran rushes to him and hugs him. Ferit! I’m so scared! Please calm down. Calm down. Taylan is on the ground, laughing. Abi pushes Ferit, come on, let’s go. They head back to the car and leave.

Taylan’s accomplice hurries over to him. He’s still smiling. She wants to take him to the hospital. He says, I think he broke my nose. Did you get the photos? She shows him. The woman thinks he took this too far. He replies, we can’t always wait for the story to come to us. Let’s go to the doctor, she says.

Ferit is in a daze. Seyran looks him over for any damage. Abi is angry. Can’t you control yourself for once? I knew you would hit him! You always do this! Ferit hollers—I didn’t do anything! Why did you stop me? It wasn’t enough! What are you saying, Abi shouts, you almost killed that man! I’m gonna find him, Ferit says. He punches the seat. Seyran tells him to calm down. She opens the window so he can get some fresh air.

Let’s go to Pelin, Ferit says. Why, Abi asks, keep her out of this. Ferit fires back, she opened her mouth! She said we were lovers! And that it was exactly what it seemed. She spoke, so he published the news. Turn the car around. Abi, did you hear me? Turn around.

Abi refuses. Ferit grabs Abi’s arm and keeps shouting for him to turn. He grabs the wheel and turns it. Seyran shouts at Ferit to stop. Abi stops the car and Ferit jumps out and hails a cab on the other side of the street. Abi tells Seyro, I hope he doesn’t do anything stupid.

Ferit shows up at Pelin’s door. He rings the bell and pounds on the door. Pelo goes to the door and as she’s about to open, Ferit growls, Pelin, open the door. Open it. I know what you’ve done. He bangs on the door. Open the door. Pelin is scared. [I was scared for her. Ferit is out of his mind.]

Ferit threatens to break the door down. He keeps pounding on it. I know what you’ve done! She finally opens the door. What are you saying, Ferit? He grabs her arm and gets in her face—tell me know you could do something like this? She asks, what did I do? He grabs her arm again. How could you betray me to save yourself?

golden
#36 part 5

Pelin doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Ferit says I know that bastard Taylan called you. You told him everything! Pelin snaps back, I didn’t say anything, I hung up! Ferit accuses her of lying. We are in trouble! Don’t yell, she replies, why would I lie to you? Ferit continues, I know you had a deal with him! He hid your face, didn’t he? Congratulations! How could you think something like this, she says. Ferit answers, he told me.

Pelin tells Ferit he fell for Taylan’s bait. Why would I do that, she asks, what would be my goal? How should I know, Ferit answers, you’re doing everything to ruin me lately! She calls him crazy. You believe that idiot and not me after all these years?

Seyran and Abi arrive at Pelin’s building. She tells him not to go in. Ferit won’t send her back alone. He’d have to leave despite wanting to stay. He asks, are you sure? Yes.

Ferit continues questioning Pelin. So you say he called and you hung up? Why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you call me? I couldn’t, she whines. Why not, he asks. She says, your mother, Ferit… My mother what, he replies, tell me. She doesn’t go further and says, this is not about your mother. You have your answer. Ferit doesn’t believe her. He asks her why she hasn’t answered his calls for days. Did something happen?

Pelin can’t even look at him. He asks, what did you and my mom talk about? Tell me! Don’t drive me crazy! Pelin replies, like any mother, she wants her son to be happy. Ferit is angry, I won’t ask you again… what did you talk about with my mom? Pelo blurts, she wanted me to leave you and end everything so you could be happy with your wife.

Ferit smirks, and so you accepted? He mocks, “Well, Gulgun Teyze, I’ve been waiting for this day for so many years! Good afternoon.” Pelo replies, do you know how much pain I’ve been in since yesterday? Do you know how much I’ve suffered?

Seyro comes up the stairs and hears this convo. Don’t play the victim now, Ferit says, tell me who is responsible for that photo? Answer me! Tell the truth. Seyro stops at the door. Ferit shouts—if you hadn’t gone there that night this wouldn’t have happened! But what did you do? You couldn’t stay away! You came, I told you to leave, but you didn’t! You were very selfish!

Am I being selfish, Pelo cries, I gave up everything for you! My dreams! My future! I’ve never known another man but you! Ferit answers, I wish you would have! You complain so much about me, I wish you had done that. She asks, is that what you think? Yes, he says, you met with my mom and made decisions. What am I to you, Pelin? Why? You didn’t even tell me we were over.

What was I supposed to do, Pelo asks, your mother said, “this is the best for you and Ferit.” What should I have done? You got married! You married that girl from Antep who you made fun of. Now you’re with her all the time. You scold me whether I get close or stay away. What do you want? Should I stay in your pocket like I have been for years? Sit around day and night waiting for you? Ignore your infidelities? I knew. I said, “maybe I’m not enough for him, and that’s fine.”

I think Ferit is feeling a little guilty and some of his fire has died out. He says, okay, you’ve started talking nonsense. I can’t listen to this. We’ll talk about this another time. He turns to go. She stops him. No, Ferit. You’re going to listen to me. You’ve interfered with my life for years! At my house, where I went to school. You questioned my past, my friends! You wouldn’t accept me until I convinced you I never had a boyfriend! But God is great, now you live in the same house as your wife’s ex-boyfriend.

golden
#36 part 6

Ferit reminds her it wasn’t his choice to marry. But you’re getting used to it, Pelo replies. Seyro is still listening at the door and it’s affecting her. Pelo continues, and you can’t get divorced either. We both know that. I’m not blind or stupid. I know you well. What are you going to do? Chase her until she’s all yours? Are you going to keep her like you did me? You’ve never thought about her past. Remember what you did and said? Should I remind you?

Ferit grabs her and tells her to shut up. You’re making me mad. What’s going to change, she asks, can it change Seyran’s past? A tear falls from Ferit. Do you think she’s never held his hand or kissed him? They could have slept together, and you don’t know! [I think Seyran wishes Pelo hadn’t brought that up.] You don’t think he lives in a corner of her mind and heart? Why don’t you do to Seyran what you did to me? She’s your wife. You couldn’t see me as your wife. Uh oh, Ferit puts his hand on his forehead.

Pelo continues, you know this, you remember, don’t you? I would get home and cry and blame myself just for seeing a move with Ali! Ask her what she did with her boyfriend. Ferit explodes—I’m sick of this! Shut up! He grabs Pelin.

Seyran gets scared and knocks on the door. Pelin opens and is surprised. Seyran asks, is Ferit here? Ferit appears. Seyro sternly says that Abidin is waiting downstairs. Let’s go. Ferit says, everything is okay, I’ll be down shortly. Seyro says, enough. Let’s go now. He looks at Pelo and goes with Seyran. Pelo closes the door and cries.

Outside, Ferit complains about Pelin and that everyone driving him crazy. Abi answers, yes, and you’re the sane one. It’s a very quiet ride home. Carlos welcomes Seyfer to the house. She asks him where Suna is. He says she was with Ifakat. Seyran goes and Ferit takes Carlos aside. Where’s the new guy? He’s in our room, resting. Ferit heads out.

And we are out.

Ep #38 April 13, 2026

Sorry - I will not be watching tonight's episode, as I am doing a tax return for a family member. I may peek at yhe last 10-15 minutes of the episode.

golden

Thanks, dondi, for a terrific recap. I was thinking about birth order. Fuat and Suna are both the eldest child. Could this be why they feel drawn to one another? Eldest daughters are incredibly responsible, caring, and sometimes stressed and anxious. I'm a middle kid. My sister was perfect and a LOT older than me. She was the one who read Nancy Drew mysteries to me until I dropped off. I kind of relate to Seyran. And I was the rebellious one in a family of three children.

Hattuc is Kazim's auntie, not Esme's. She seems to come from the same poisoned upbringing. She sides with Kazim about 80% of the time. It drives me nuts.

Two characters I would not miss at all are Yusuf and Sultan. Both suffer from the same thing. They had a little something going with the main protagonists, and they can't accept that it's over and that it's time to move on.

Interesting that dondi used "hair standing on end" to describe how the staff feel about Kazim. The Spanish was piel de gallina (goose bumps).

I interpreted the lack of what in the Spanish was tags on the clothing in Suna's closet to mean that this social class thinks it's tacky to know how much something costs.

Yes, that was a very, very creepy gaze Ifakat had. This is the second time she's wanted to see Suna in the nude. The first was at some celebration of only women where she wanted to look at the body of her choice for Ferit. Is she analyzing her as a baby making machine or does she lust after her?

That Taylan is horrible, and Ferit keeps playing into his hands. I can't tell if 100% of his motive is getting big scoops for his career or if he's viciously jealous of Ferit's looks and wealth. There's going to be a bombshell soon, for sure.

What happened to Ferit going to work with the one-handed master jeweler? It's hard to tell in dizis (at least for me) how much time is elapsing. I recall a mention of some period of time when that guy's shop was closed, but it seems like forever since Ferit went there. Ferit needs a purpose in his life.

Ferit is right about part of the big mess being because Pelin showed up at that nightclub. There wouldn't have been a scene for the reporter to see otherwise.

I am surprised at the rage inside Ferit. For 90% of the dizi he's this spoiled, handsome scion of the wealthy Korhans. But there's some deep anger there. He seems on the verge of beating Yusuf to a pulp, not that I would care that much if he did so.

You are a good person, Anastasia, for taking on the last-minute tax filing for a family member. I'm a long-term Turbo Tax fan. I did have to fork over some bucks this time, but I knew it was coming. I finished it last week, and they will hit my checking account on April 15.

I'll put up something about tonight's Lobo episode.

Lobo

Thanks for doing the recap. Since you are praising me, I will have to confess the down-to-the wire tax return is due to my procrastination.

And Tuesday - if the tax return is done in time, I am going to the Milwaukee Brewers baseball game. If it is not done in time for the game, hopefully it will be done before Lobo comes on. I may have to ask you to do the recap for Tuesday night also.

lobo

lunes – parte 1 We get a repeat of Alejandro telling Miranda it was a bad idea to tell Lobo about the camera in Tato. Then there’s a flashback of Miranda begging Gustavo for a divorce. He tells her a flat no, and that she’ll spend the rest of her life at his side. When she protests for the good of Renata, he backhands her…hard. She tells Ale that was the day she decided he had to go.

We then see Cruz, El Az, and Miranda talking in another flashback. Cruz says she needs to convince Gustavo to keep their good money laundering thing going. She tells them they should get rid of Gustavo. She’ll take them to las caletas. [The nearest translation I could find is hideouts. It also means coves.] Miranda says they’ll split the $500 million 3 ways.

Plácido tells Graciela that the body that was exhumed was not Miranda. He then orders her to stop working for Cruz. Graciela plays El Az like a fiddle, working to convince him that she could spy on Cruz for him.

In another flashback we see that scene of Gustavo telling Cruz he’s out of that business. This time we see that Miranda is telling El Az what Gustavo is doing.

Miranda tells Alejandro that she can’t just disappear. They’ll find her. She needs to get her hands on the money to survive.

Remedios keeps up her war against Graciela. She shows him photos of Graciela with Gustavo, sort of embracing in front of the camera.

Ale asks why Miranda didn’t tell Lobo who planned Gustavo’s death (she did) and is told that Lobo is too honest.

Cruz and Leonor are plotting when Carlo texts her that she has a half hour to arrive at some hotel or else. There’s a knock at his door. It’s not Leonor; it’s Cocúla and a henchie who proceed to smash his hand several times with a hammer.

Plácido confronts Graciela about the photos of she and Gustavo. This murderer is shocked and takes a moral stand about Gracie doing the deed with her own sister’s husband. Graciela tells him that she and Gustavo were together first, and that she loved him deeply.

Lobo and Fer talk about Lobo finding Miranda alive. Lobo asks Fer to investigate Alejandro. Fer asks the obvious. Why not give Renata to her mother? Lobo’s reply is that Miranda wants him to go with her to the border for the money. Fer: “And Antonia?” Fer says that the three of them and Renata would be a very “modern” family. Fer is not a fan of Miranda and witnessed how she broke Lobo’s heart 10 years ago.

lunes – parte 2 Antonia tells Adela over the phone about Miranda being alive. And also that she told Lobo that Miranda might have arranged the death of her husband.

Miranda, looking more villainous every minute, asks Ale to find out Antonia’s secrets. She doesn’t believe in Antonia’s good character in caring for Renata. She thinks she’s after the money.

The truly disgusting Pablo has come back to the club. Zahie tells him she’s not taking him back. He says he’ll get his things. But he snoops in Sué’s room. He finds the positive pregnancy test and the check for $10K. Then a bit later he confronts Ignacio. He tells him that Sué is pregnant and that the duration of the pregnancy means it’s his. He also shows him the check and says he and Sué will use it for their baby. Ignacio punches him. They get into a prolonged fight. But Pablo shoots him and runs off

We next see the Cruz family at the hospital. Nacho is out of surgery. Hugo approaches with a video of the shooting. He also says that Pablo had cashed Leonor’s check. [What? How could he cash a check made out to Sué?]

Miranda keeps working on Alejandro, who is in love with her. She wants the phones of Antonia, Fernando, and Santiago tapped.

Lobo tells Antonia he has to go see Miranda.

Pffft! I am really sick of Adrian continuing to put the moves on Adela, his brother’s novia. They’ve gotten drunk, and there’s even a kiss. Hugo arrives and is not pleased. He didn't see the kiss, but they look guilty.

Plácido gets a text about someone offering him the head of Antonia. He doesn’t know who sent the offer. [Miranda?]

Miranda whines to Lobo that everyone would be better off without her. Lobo tells her he’s in love with someone else. And that their relationship has been over for a long time. She looks pretty murderous at this.

Cocúla comes to tell Sué about Nacho having been shot. He’s working on behalf of Cruz and asks if she knows where Pablo can be found.

Cruz talks to his unconscious son. He really does love his children. I’ll give him that.

Antonia leaves the house, and Miranda is in a car and calls out to her. She says that Antonia is even more beautiful in person than in her photographs.

Novelera: Thank you very much for the recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts.

*Miranda is getting more & more EVIL. Personally, I wish she had died earlier in the Telenovela because she's hell-bent on taking Renata & getting her slimy hands on Lobo.

*Fer is spot on about Miranda being bad news.

*100 percent agree with you about Annoying Adrian due to his obsession over Adela. Plus, there's something bugging me about that creep: Are we're sure Adrian isn't faking paralysis? 🤔

*Buji Goldie Locks still being Buji Goldie Locks LOL.

*Antonia: WATCH YOUR BACK!

*Alejandro: Miranda is using you buddy.

Lobo

Novelera, thanks for the recap. Our cable and wifi are out due to a storm overnight, so I can't stream the episode while eating breakfast.

#37 - Part 1 of 3

This episode was a humdinger! Gloomy Ferit and Seyran return home from the disastrous encounter with Taylan, the toxic reporter. Seyran goes to their room, but Ferit asks Carlos where he can find Yusuf.

We then segue to creepy Ifakat admiring Suna in a dress that she herself picked out, plus high heels. My lifelong rebellious nature can scarcely bear this whole scene. Ifakat puts Suna through her paces. How to sit. How to pick up something that has fallen to the floor. Then she really rubs me the wrong way. She advises Suna to keep everyone, including her sister, at a distance. Keeping everyone at a distance is a female trump card. She puts the cherry atop this disagreeable sundae with this: “If you listen to me and give yourself over to me, all your dreams will come true.” As soon as the door closes behind Ifakat, Suna kicks off the high heels and jumps on that comfy bed.

Ferit walks in on Yusuf without knocking, then orders him to rise. Because Ferit saw the convo before between Yusuf and Kazim from his balcony, he asks what they talked about. Yusuf fires back that he was entrusted with Seyran and Suna. “He knew he couldn’t count on you.” Ferit laughs. You couldn’t even protect the hand of the girl you loved. Yusuf says that his day will come. Ferit asks him to imagine there’s no Ferit at all. “Do you think Sr. Kazim would permit you to marry his daughter?” He laughs at the very thought. Yusuf replies that Sr. Kazim married the Korhan family, not Ferit. Compared to Yusuf himself, Ferit isn’t worthy of being his dog.

Uh oh! Ferit strokes his forehead. Then he punches Yusuf in the stomach, doubling him over. Dicle had come into the room, she said, to check on Yusuf. Ferit tells her that, if he sees her around Yusuf, he’ll tell her mother. Then Ferit orders Yusuf to stay away from Dicle.

The minute the door closes behind Ferit, Yusuf grabs his phone. We next see Kazim in his Istanbul high rise angrily refusing a call. He explains to Hattuc that he’s been getting calls about the newspaper article. He thinks his family are now cuckolds. Then he turns off the phone at Hattuc’s suggestion.

Ferit is in a barely repressed rage nearly this whole episode. He goes up to their bedroom to pick a fight with Seyran. “Do you want to know about the conversation between your papa and your boyfriend?” He entrusted you and your sister to him. Now you can run to him if you have a problem. He admits that he talked with Yusuf but throws in a snark about Dicle now taking care of Yusuf. Seyran signs. “Today wasn’t enough for you [beating up Taylan]. You couldn’t vent to Pelin, so you went after Yusuf.

Seyran tells Ferit that she overheard his conversation with Pelin. She couldn’t really help it; he was shouting. Now she understands. He can only feel inferior. Ferit laughs and laughs. Seyran asks if he thinks all boyfriends ask their girlfriends questions like that.

Abidin knocks and then comes in announcing that they’re toast. On his phone he has photos of Ferit beating the crap out of Taylan. Ferit sinks to the bed and says he’s dead. Suna comes in. Now the four, hopefully someday two loving couples, are quite worried. Abidin tries again and again, but Taylan is not picking up. Suna doesn’t quite understand, so Abidin explains the severity. That Ferit attacked a member of the press. And he did this during a meeting that they themselves requested, as if an attack had been planned. And…if Taylan presses charges, Ferit could wind up in prison. Suna thinks they should ask for help from Ifakat. [Is she already indoctrinated?]

#37 - Part 2 of 3

Ferit says they’ll sit tight for now. Maybe the guy is looking for a bribe.

Yusuf shows up at Kazim’s place. Kazim orders Hattuc and Esme to go to their rooms while he hears Yusuf out. He begins by barking at the guy he treated like a member of his family when Ferit was looking down from his balcony. Yusuf explains that he tried to call but couldn’t get through. Yusuf says it’s important and comes right out with it. “The photo in the paper is new. The girls in it are ex-girlfriends, and they were fighting over him. That same night Ferit arrived home late.” We can see Kazim’s blood pressure rise. Yusuf goes on to say that Ferit might still be seeing that girl. Seyran seems nervous, and the staff say they’re fighting all the time. Kazim praises Yusuf and sends him back.

Ferit injects insulin in the bathroom and looks miserable. While he’s in there Seyran tells Abidin she’s worried about his being arrested. She thinks it’s serious enough to tell Halis. Abidin says that Ferit wants to keep quiet. Seyran thinks that Halis is the only one who can fix this. The logical thing to her is to tell him immediately. Seyran tries to be kind after Abidin and Suna leave, but Ferit is sarcastic.

Suna and Abidin are talking on the way to their rooms when Fuat comes up behind them. He sort of barks at Abidin, asking what he’s doing. Sigh. He’s clearly possessive about Suna. He even tries inviting her for a coffee downstairs. [These Turks seem to drink coffee at night. I’d be awake until the sun rose.] He then begins telling her how pleased he is that she’s there when Asuman approaches and agrees with the sentiment. She puts her arm through Fuat’s and welcomes Suna pleasantly. [Fuat is not the only possessive one here.]

We then get a long musical interlude and see a series of images of our cast of characters without dialog. Seyran is looking sad. Fuat and Asuman are in their bedroom, and Fuat seems to not respond to her advances. Suna is very happy, trying on each outfit in her new wardrobe. Abidin is very upset, perhaps a combination of how Fuat sort of unmanned him and worry about Taylan. Yusuf does night rounds and at one point seems to shine a flashlight in Ferit’s eyes while he’s on the balcony. Our last image is of the loathsome Kazim.

Latif finishes his prayers and goes out to the guard shack. Kazim is there and says he urgently needs to speak with Sr. Halis. He gets his wish. Halis: “How are you, Kazim? Is something happening? “Yes, I came here to take my daughter. But I wanted to let you know because I respect you.” “What are you talking about?” Kazim says there are no worthy excuses for this. He’ll take his daughter and leave immediately. I asked around and I learned something. The photo in the newspaper is new. Your grandson was out clubbing with his ex-lovers, and they caught him.

#37 - Part 3 of 3

Halis at first looks almost faint and then explodes. Kazim goes way over the top about his rage, his pain, his breaking out in hives. I trusted you. Now I’m broken. I’m taking Seyran, and Suna won’t be here anymore either. I can’t trust your grandson. I don’t want to have to talk about my honor again. I didn’t raise my daughter to be a courtesan. [I know dondi has commented that Kazim really does care about honor, but I’m dumbfounded he’d be willing to throw his big jackpot into the trash. I am also surprised he uses the tu form with Halis.]

Halis reaches his limit. He snarls between clenched teeth that they don’t give their honor to anyone as if it were a simple thing. Whatever you heard, you must be mistaken. Give me a few hours, and you’ll find out what I’m capable of. Kazim almost flinches. I’ll learn the true story, no matter how hard it is. When Kazim tries to speak, Halis asks if he’s trying to talk over him. Now, leave, and await news from me. When Kazim doesn’t move, Halis asks what he’s still doing there. Kazim slinks out.

Ferit slept, but Seyran was awake all night. She’s been sketching. She tells him that nothing else happened. He keeps being a jerk, cracking wise about her getting the room to herself if they lock him up. Your sister is here. Your lover is here. Terrific! Then he goes on to say she’ll be disappointed because he’ll still be around. If they haven’t published it, this means he wants money.

Latif comes to tell the staff that Halis doesn’t want the family to know about Kazim being there. He threatens them with dismissal if he hears otherwise. He singles out Sultan.

Not a very cheerful breakfast. Orhan hopes that the stress is over. Latif announces that Halis is coming, not to eat, but to speak.

Halis sits down and there’s a very long, nervous silence. My dear Seyran. Your father came here after the morning prayers. He found out some things. I’ll only ask you one question. You are the only one at this table that I can trust, so you’ll be honest. You’ll be the mother of my grandchildren and the lady of the house. The only legacy I leave is honesty.

I heard your big dream is to study. If you answer me honestly, I give you permission to study. Gulgun looks pleased and Ifakat nervous. The photos in the newspaper, are they old or recent? Does your husband leave you alone at night and party with other women? Seyran: They’re new. Everyone looks frightened. He went out at night? Yes, he did.

Halis intones that people live for their values: modesty, honor, dignity, honesty. It separates us from the animals. But I don’t see that here. No one at this table. Ifakat tries to speak up. He yells at her to shut up. We’ve all made mistakes, but we’ve faced them. What do any of you know but lies and hypocrisy? You are all immoral.

Ferit rises, but we’ll have to watch #38 to see what he has to say for himself.

Lobo

I filed my family member's return at 11 pm. I am out of the house for much of tomorrow, so not sure if I will be able to stream and recap Tuesday's Lobo before Wednesday's episode.

lobo

I sort of burned myself out on the Golden recap. I might be able to do a quickie tomorrow afternoon.

golden

novelera, I’m glad you decided to watch this with us and volunteer to recap. I love your recaps. I love your asides. Love your insightful comments.

First a response to your comments on #36. “Fuat and Suna are both the eldest child. Could this be why they feel drawn to one another?” Drunk Suna spilled it. They are overlooked, while the younger siblings are favored. There’s love for the siblings but there’s resentment lurking.

“…tags on the clothing in Suna's closet…” Remember the shopping trips in Antep? In addition to filling the shopping bags with cheap items, they would buy some things and return them later. So, dresses would stay hanging in the closet, covered in plastic, with tags still attached.

According to Halis, the armless master wanted to work alone for a while. We don’t know anything else at this point.

“I am surprised at the rage inside Ferit.” I think Ferit might have inherited this trait from grandpa.

Song: Dip/Bottom – Madrigal
YouTube English translation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpwvCWuGG5g

Ifakat’s creepiness continues. So does Yusuf’s stupidity.

“[I know dondi has commented that Kazim really does care about honor, but I’m dumbfounded he’d be willing to throw his big jackpot into the trash. I am also surprised he uses the tu form with Halis.]”

I’m not so surprised at the “tu” form, since they are “family”. Kazim did address Halis as “ağam (my ağa) out of respect.” Note: Kazim used the Turkish inferential past tense when speaking because he did not directly witness the events, he was told by Yusuf. And he won’t be throwing his jackpot into the trash. If there is a divorce (or reconciliation), he’s going to want a big settlement and Halis would certainly give it. Kazim’s problem is Orhan. If Halis is out of the picture, Orhan wouldn’t give him anything. I guess you could say Kazim is taking a calculated risk.

I can recap #38 but I’m not sure how quickly I can get it posted. The next few episodes will really be “humdingers”.

Thanks again, novelera!

What an episode! Thank you, Novelera! Thanks for the great comments and music, Dondi! I was confused about the tags on the new clothes being removed. Of course! How could I forget that crazy Antep “shopping” trip!!!

Ifakat is very organized and powerful but oh so creepy!!! I loved Suna’s reaction after the door closed!

Birth order is very important. You are right that it explains Fuat and Suna! Ferit is so charming and Halis dotes on him. It would be tough to have him as a little brother!

I have time to do #38 today. Let me know dondi and I’ll get started.

#38
April 13, 2026

I am squeezing in a quick recap. First, "caleta" also means "cache" in Latin America.

Miranda and Antonia have a confrontation on the street. Antonia accuses Miranda of having done a self-inflicted wound - that the whole situation was planned. Miranda tells Antonia that Anta is no longer in charge of Renata. Miranda tells Lobo she wants Lobo to bring Renata to be with Miranda at Alejandro's house. She doesn't want Lobo to prep her for her mother's sudden reappearance.

Antonia and Eugenio are kidnapped by Azufrero's men. Azufrero wants to force Lobo to tell Azu where Renata and the cache are. Azufrero stays quiet, not revealing who is doing the kidnapping, while Cocula and Second Son film Antonia and Eugenio in their custody. Azu sends the film to Lobo's phone, but Lobo isn't responding. He doesn't have his phone, because Alejandro's man took it when Lobo arrived at Ale's house.

Various people visit Nacho in the hospital. Graciela shows up to comfort Cruz and hugs him. Leonor sees them hugging. Cruz confesses to a relationship with Grabriela. Leonor threatens him with exposure of the affair during his campaign.

Lobo takes Renata to Alejandro's house (where his phone is taken away from him). Renata is surprised to see a woman claiming to be her mother, because her mother is dead. Miranda convinces Ren of her identity by bringing up old memories. Renata then asks about her dad, expecting to see him because he must also be alive if her mother is. End episode.

Hi Babachita. If you do 38, I will do 39 for the new page on Thursday.
Thanks!

Will do 38!

Thanks, Anastasia. I appreciate the recap. The word cache is perfect. It's interesting that it also means cove in Spanish. That sort of puzzled me.

Leonor is just awful. Her son wakes up from surgery, and she manages a tiny bit of motherly love before ranting on about the prostitute. El qué dirán is what matters to her above all.

Both Lobo and Antonia are instinctively reluctant to turn Renata over to her mother. And, once again, Miranda doesn't do things right, at least to me. I had forgotten she'd ordered Lobo to not prepare Renata. That was a terrible shock. SO much better for Lobo to have gently said everyone had believed her mother dead, but she'd been in a coma and now was herself again.

You said "second son". I am surprised again that El Az mixes his sons up in his dirty business. There's too many 20 something young guys in this. I guess I thought the guy was just one of Cocúla's thugs.

It's going to be so sad when the news is broken to Renata that papi is truly gone. He might have been a cheater and an abuser, but he seemed to be a good father.

Big Ed certainly has the gleeful gloating part of his repertoire down pat!

golden

Thanks for the kind words. And I clearly missed the point about the clothing tags. Yes, of course, Suna couldn't grasp that clothes would come home without the option of taking them back.

Regarding the tu verbs used by Kazim, I think I felt the way I did from many years working with immigrants from Mexico. They are polite to a fault with anyone older than themselves or of higher status. I've even heard usted used toward an older family member.

And, yes, I hadn't worked it out that Kazim would expect to be compensated should the marriage fail. I was just surprised he seemed so intent on taking Seyran back with him. And horrified that he might do so.

It seems to take me forever to do a recap with a streaming show. My M.O., as I've mentioned before, is to watch once all the way through and then to go back, zipping through it to get what I want to say for each scene. I always record telenovelas on my DVR, and I've got it down pat as to how the machine moves forward and/or back when I want to perfect some dialog I just heard. This also spares me the commercials.

But the Roku device I use (my television itself is not smart) doesn't advance and retreat at the same rate as live television. It always backs up too far. I seem to spend SO much time backing up to clarify and write a bit of dialog, realize I've gone too far and must risk jumping ahead too far or suffering through most of the scene again to get back to where I left off. Not sure how others do this. I could watch on my computer and make notes as I go. But I think I've always just wanted to see the whole thing first, whether from curiosity or a desire to trim the less interesting parts.

Golden Boy – Yali Capcini – Poder y Traicion
Episode 38 #1 of 6
“Deeply Hurt”

We start at the family table in the yali. Halis is very unhappy and speaks directly to Seyran.
Halis: My dear Seyran, your father came by this morning after prayer.
Seyran and Suna exchange looks.
Halis: He discovered a few things. I just have one questions for you. You’re the only person at this table that I trust.
Ifakat stares at Halis (I’m sure she thinks he trusts her more than anyone)!
Halis: I know you’ll be honest with me. Now tell me, those newspaper photos, are they old or recent.
Ferit stares at Seyran.
Halis: Does your husband leave you alone at night while he goes out with other women?
Seyran is very impactada as she considers her options, especially considering Kazim brought this on.
Halis: Answer me!
Seyran decides on the truth: Sir, they’re recent photos.
Halis: So, he went out at night?
Seyran: Yes, he did.
Halis: Morals are what push people to keep going. Modesty! Honor! Dignity! Honesty! They are what sets humans apart from animals. But I see none of that at this table. I see none of that in you. What a shame.
Ifakat: Sir, how can…
Halis: Shut it, Ifakat. We all make mistakes. We all mess up. But we’ve always faced them and regretted them.
We see each person looking at Halis, very chastised, but Ferit is staring at Seyran.
Halis: But have you learned anything other than lying and being hypocrites? You have no morals!
Halis bangs on the table very hard and glasses and plates jump.
Ferit stands up and turns to his grandfather: It was all my fault. No one other than me deserves your rage.
Halis slowly stands up and walks to where Ferit is standing. Ferit backs up a bit and then stands his ground. Halis: Look at me.
Halis gives Ferit a very hard Ottoman slap that knocks Ferit to the ground, right in front of the servants standing on the side. Gulgun tries to go to Ferit, but Orhan grabs her arm to keep her with him. Halis watches Ferit on the floor; he is very impactado. Ferit slowly rises from the floor. He stares as Seyran who is crying. He looks at everyone and then walks off. Halis watches him leave. Halis’s face is full of conflicting emotions.
Gulgun finally frees herself from Orhan to follow Ferit. She rushes past Halis. Halis starts to wobble and Latif runs to him: Sir!
Halis: Take me to my room, Latif.
When Orhan tries to take his arm, he shakes off his hand: Don’t touch me!
Halis: Get out of here!
It looks like Fuat is able to take the other arm.

Outside, we see Ferit in tears, walking toward the gate. Gulgun tries to catch up to him. She catches him and he tells her to leave him alone, to let him go.
Ferit: Leave me in peace! Let me go! I can’t breathe.
Dicle runs out, calling for Gulgun about Halis Aga.
Yusuf comes out of the guard house to see what’s going on.

Episode 38 #2 of 6

Back at the dining table, the sisters are all that are left. Suna looks at her sister: Seyran?
Seyran collapses into tears. Suna tells her to calm down. She tells her it will be OK. Seyran’s uncontrollable tears show her devastation.
Seyran: This is my fault.
Suna: It’s OK. Let me take you to your room. Come.
Suna is able to walk her sister away from the table. They start up the stairs when Gulgun and Dicle arrive.
Gulgun: Why did you do that, Seyran?
Seyran: Gulgun, I…
Gulgun: I didn’t expect that from you.
Gulgun runs upstairs. Seyran continues to cry and turns to go upstairs but falls. Suna catches her.
Seyran: I’m not well, Suna.
Suna tells her she will take her upstairs.

Halis is having his blood pressure checked by Latif in his room.
Gulgun reaches the room. Orhan tells her the doctor is on the way. They whisper among themselves about an ambulance, but Ifakat tells them that would only upset him more.
Orhan tells Fuat to go downstairs and wait for the doctor and explain the situation. Fuat goes.
Orhan: Are you feeling better, Father?
Halis: Leave me alone, Orhan.
Orhan takes Gulgun, Ifakat, and Asuman and they leave.

In the kitchen, Abidin is eating while Sefika is working. Sultan enters, crying. Dicle follows her. Everyone is concerned because Sultan is very upset.
Sultan: It’s the new girl. She’s stirring up trouble this early. She told Halis the photos are recent.
Abidin stands up at this: What are you saying?
Sultan: Halis Aga slapped Ferit so hard, the poor kid fell in front of everyone.
Dicle tells them Halis isn’t doing well and was taken top his room. Abidin is using his phone, trying to find Ferit.
Dicle says he just left and was fuming. Abidin can’t find him and wonders where he is.
Sultan: Abidin, don’t come back without Ferit. He looked terrible when he left. I hope nothing happens to him.
Dicle tells her mother to sit down.
Sefika says she hopes nothing will happen to Halis and that she will make good food that he likes. She says the house runs thanks to Halis Aga.

Up in the attic suite, Seyran and Suna are on the sofa. Seyran: I can’t breathe.
Suna: Relax, drink some water. It will make you feel better. What’s done is done, dear. Stay calm.
Suna puts some water on the back of Seyran’s neck.
Seyran tells her she is feeling better and doesn’t need to go outside for fresh air.
There’s a knock at the door.
Suna is pleased that it’s Abidin. Abidin walks over to Seyran, still crying. He asks if she is OK. Seyran: Abidin, something terrible happened. I…
Abidin tells her he already knows, she doesn’t have to say it.
Seyran: It happened so fast. Halis said some things and I panicked. He asked about the photo, and I remembered the other ones. He said something about Ferit and I got scared. I was afraid he’d see them. I thought Halis could help if he knew the whole thing. I thought I was protecting Ferit by telling him. I really thought I was! I swear, Abidin.

Episode 38 #3 of 6
Abidin: You shouldn’t have said anything.
Seyran: How is Mr. Halis?
Abidin: I don’t know. They must have called his doctor.
Seyran: How is Ferit?
Abidin: He left the yali. I called him but his phone’s off. He’ll call back once he’s calmed down. I’ll let you know if he does.
Seyran sits and asks: What about Taylan (the photographer)? Is he going to publish the other photos? What are we going to do?
Abidin struggles to answer: Taylan…all of this happened because of that bastard. I’ll handle this. Don’t worry.
Suna runs after him: Abidin? Please be careful.

Abidin walks fast by the swimming pool toward the vehicles and gets in the SUV. He nearly hits Yusuf and Dicle as he races off. Dicle asks if it was Abidin and Yusuf says it was. Yusuf wonders what happened.
Dicle: You haven’t heard? We can’t talk here. Let’s go for a walk and I’ll tell you.

Kazim is looking out over Istanbul and talking to himself: Don’t lose your head, Kazim! He asks for divine help. Hattuc tells him he has steam coming out of his ears. She tells him to go out and get some fresh air. She gives him good advice: Stop overthinking!
Kazim: I don’t get it. This is bothering me. Why is it happening?
Hattuc: Go out and get some fresh air. Take a walk. Halis always explained everything. Why are you still so worried? Kazim walks a bit, trying to get his breathing under control. The phone rings.
Yusuf: Mr. Kazim, things have gotten messy around here.
We don’t hear what else Yusuf says, but we see Kazim increasingly upset, yelling out: What, What. What?
He tells Hattuc: Things are getting ugly. Aga’s lying to me! You better pray for them. I’ll bring their house down on them!
Kazim is waving his prayer beads as he waves his arms wildly!
Hattuc: Wait, Kazim!
Although she tries to slow him down, he tells her he has made up his mind: I’m not letting my daughters stay there! That article about Ferit was true!
Hattuc: Kazim!
Kazim: What they said about those girls was true.
Hattuc is very impactada and wants him to wait for her, but he’s already out the door.
Esme rushes in and asks what’s happened. Hattuc tells her it’s the end, it’s over now. [I wonder if she’s thinking of her renewed relationship with Halis.] She’s afraid of what he’ll do. He’s gone mad.

The doctor says Halis’s pressure is getting better. He tells him he needs to stay calm. They thank the doctor for coming.
Halis: Latif, call Ferit.
Latif starts to explain that Ferit isn’t there, and Halis tells him not to talk back. Halis starts yelling at Orhan and Latif. Halis tells them he will have to get up. They go looking for Ferit. Finally, Orhan gets Abidin on the phone. Abidin tells him he hasn’t found him and Ferit isn’t answering his calls.
Orhan and Ifakat go up to face Halis with this news. Gulgun is beside herself and Asuman is trying to calm her. Asuman is sure that Ferit, after some time to think, will be in touch.
The “bad news committee” tells Halis Ferit went out for some air and admit they can’t find Ferit. Halis is so angry he knocks his water glass tray over with Latif standing by it.
Halis: How come you don’t know? Where is my nephew? How could you let him leave like that? Could none of you stop that kid? Find him now! Bring him over immediately!

Episode 38 #4 of 6

We see Pelin sitting on her couch when her doorbell rings insistently. She answers to find (big surprise) Ferit. He has a split lip thanks to Halis. He tells her to get ready; they are leaving.
Pelin: What? I don’t get it.
Ferit: Think of it as a long vacation. Pack a small suitcase.
Pelin: OK, sure.
He asks, in a breaking voice, for her to pack some stuff for him, too. Whatever I have here.
She tells him OK in a reassuring voice. She packs a bag. He tells her to bring the car keys, too. She tells him she will bring something to drink, and it looks like she’s bringing his diabetes kit from the fridge, too.
Ferit: You’re not going to ask me where we’re going?
Pelin: Have I ever asked?
They walk to her car. She asks if he is OK and he replies, no. But he says he will be.
Ferit: We have to go somewhere they won’t find us, Pelin. Any ideas?
She suggests a hotel, but he tells her that won’t work. She says the only thing that she can think of is camping. She finally thinks of her family’s country house. He tells her it’s a great idea! She gets a high-five! She says no one is there, but that it’s a bit cold.

Abidin is driving quickly and arrives at the apartment of the photographer, Taylan. He has a murderous look in his eye. I wouldn’t want to be the photographer. He already has a broken nose, and when he answers, holds the door partially closed, just perfect for Abidin to slam it into his nose. Taylan tries to respond, but Abidin is the better fighter. [My hero!]
The girlfriend comes out, but backs up when she see it’s a fight.v Abidin yells at her to go back inside and leave him.
Abidin: Where are the photos?
Taylan: What are you talking about?
Abidin puts some pressure on his neck and asks again where the photos are.
He keeps asking this. Abidin puts Taylan in an arm lock.
Abidin to girlfriend: Shut up and listen. I’m blinded by rage.
Girlfriend says to let him go. She’s afraid he will break his arm. She knows where they are.
Taylan tells her not to, but she goes and gets the photos. She pulls out the memory card. Abidin asks for his phone. When Taylan protests, Abidin puts pressure on the arm to shut him up. She brings the phone. He applies pressure to get the password and then Abidin clears the storage on the phone. He gives the phone back to the girlfriend. He asks if there are copies on the laptop. Taylar says there aren’t, but she says yes. She opens the laptop. Abidin takes Taylan into the other room while she deletes the photos.
Taylan tells him it’s not finished. Abidin looks at him and then walks out.

A taxi arrives at the yali; Mustafa welcomes Kazim.
Kazim tells him he is there to see Halis Aga and for him to let him know.
Kazim tells the taxi driver to wait while he does something inside: Leave the engine on, and stay alert! Don’t worry, I’ll pay you extra for this.
Kazim walks to the front door, which is locked. He starts beating on the door. They open the door and he heads up the stairs. Orhan blocks him.
Kazim: Move it! I have to talk to Aga!
Orhan tells him he is sick and he can’t see him.
Fuat joins Orhan and Gulgun stands to the side.
Kazim: If anybody’s sick here, it’s me.
He starts hollering for Hali Aga.
Kazim: Halis Aga! You promised me!
Mustafa comes in to help.
Orhan signals to Carlos and Mustafa to take Kazim outside. They start to do so.

Kazim: What the hell? You’re taking me away?
Latif comes down the stairs.
Kazim: You’re going to pay for this!
Latif: Mr. Halis is waiting for Mr. Kazim and will see him now.
Everyone looks up at this!
Orhan: Mr. Latif, my father’s sick.
Latif: Mr. Orhan, these are Halis’s orders. He said so himself. They’ll talk in private.
Kazim (not a big guy) throws off the two bigger guys holding him, tells them to keep their hands off him, and heads up the stairs. He always looks like he takes two steps at a time!
Kazim is shown into Halis’s living room. Halis is standing up, ready for him.
Kazim: I’m leaving and taking Seyran with me, Aga.
Halis: Kazim!
Kazim mocks him: Kazim, Wait Kazim, that won’t work anymore. I know everything. You’ve played me and my daughter for fools. I believed you. I trusted you. I respected you, but there’s no coming back from this, Aga.
Halis gives Latif a sign, and he leaves them alone.
Kazim: Orhan kept stringing me along with the lands and the houses, and I didn’t say a word. But this is too far. This is about my honor. My dignity. My self-esteem. I adore my daughters. I was careful in raising them both. And all for what? So your grandson could toy with her while dishonoring our family?
Halis blinks as he hears this, still standing.
Halis: Kazim, you’re completely right. You have daughters. I’ll do whatever I must. You can rest assured. Whoever played a part in this will pay for it. You have my word.
Kazim listens and nods: You know what’s best for your family, Aga. But I know what’s best for mine.
Halis nods at this.
Kazim: No, I’m leaving and I’m taking Seyran and Suna with me.
Halis listens and then nods at this. He closes his eyes. He is weak as he uses his cane to reach the sofa.
Kazim leaves him there and goes to get his daughters.
Latif runs to Halis: Are you OK?
Halis sits: Make sure nobody tries to stop him or step in. Tell everyone.
Latif tells him, “Yes Sir,” and goes to do this.
Upstairs, Suna is comforting Seyran, stroking her hair while she rests her head in Suna’s lap. Kazim enters. He tells them to pack their bags. We’re going home.
Seyran: Is something wrong, Dad?
Kazim: Did you not hear me. Pack your bags. We’re going home.
They don’t move, and he yells at them, asking if they can’t hear him.
Seyran asks him to wait. She asks him to calm down first. He waits a bit and then slaps her. Suna grabs her.
Kazim: Why would I wait? He threatens Suna with a slap as well.
Kazim: Are you trying to drive me crazy? He cheated on you! With two women. Have you no dignity? Have you no pride? You think I’d leave you here, with the Korhans? He grabs Seyran by the arms and takes her out of the room, calling for Suna to do the same. He tells Seyran: Don’t make me hit you again. [That oft-used threat of abusers.]
Downstairs, Gulgun is trying to stop this, but he shoves her aside, telling her not to interfere in family business. She says Seyran’s their daughter.
Kazim: Get a hold of yourself. I’ve seen what happens within your family. Don’t make me insult a woman.
Orhan is sitting in the living room, not moving at all.
Gulgun tells Kazim he is insulting all of them. Please stop this! What a shame? We’ve all been dishonored.

Episode 38 #6 of 6
Kazim: It’s in the papers! Everyone knows.
Gulgun takes Seyran’s face between her hands: Please calm down. We’ll fix this. (The same Gulgun who was mad at her earlier.)
Kazim grabs Seyran and takes her out the front door, Suna following.
Kazim tells them to hurry, and they go to the waiting taxi.
Both girls look out the back window at the yali sadly and at Gulgun standing there. Close to the gate we see Sultan, exulting no doubt at this exit of Seyran. Yusuf is impactado.

Gulgun strides into the living room where Orhan, Ifakat, Fuat, and Asuman are sitting.
Gulgun: He really took Seyran. I understand Suna, but Seyran is family. He took her just like that. Orhan, we must do something.
Ifakat: There’s nothing to do. Halis asked us not to step in. Do you want to upset him further?
Gulgun: Doesn’t this weigh on your conscience? Don’t you feel sorry for her, Ifakat? What are we going to tell Ferit when he returns.
Ifakat: I’d rather rely on my conscience when it comes to my family. I advise you to do the same.
Latif walks in: Mr. Orhan, Halis is waiting for you.
Orhan asks how his father is, and Latif’s gesture suggests about the same.
Ifakat, such a busy body, follows Orhan.
Knock on the door. Halis: Come in.
Orhan walks up to his father, Ifakat besides him.
Orhan: Father, are you OK? Did that man upset you?
Ifakat: Was he disrespectful, sir?
Halis: I froze up in front of a man young enough to be my son. And it was all your fault. For the firs time in my life, I looked down in shame. I swallowed every word he said. All becasus of my age. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I don’t recognize you. How dare you lie to me! Who do you think you are? How dare you lie to me, just like that? To make matters worse, he brought up the houses! Orhan! Didn’t I ask you to handle that? Did I not tell you?
Orhan: Dad, he didn’t like any of the houses I showed him. He only liked whatever was expensive.
Halis: Did I ask you to worry about money? That money is mine! Did I not tell you to buy whatever was necessary? Why the hell didn’t you listen?
Orhan tries to answer.
Halis: Silence! Where’s Ferit?
Orhan and Ifakat’s faces show pure terror now as Halis approaches them and repeats his question: Look at me! I asked you where Ferit is. Where is he? Where is my grandson?
Orhan: We don’t know.
Halis reaches out to slap Orhan, but Ifakat takes his arm and tells him not to do it, not to hurt himself. Orhan is waiting with his eyes closed for the blow.
Ifakat goes on and on about not doing it. She begs, etc., etc.,
Halis shakes his head at her, very disappointed. He winces several times, shakes his head, and finally tells both of them to get out, both of them. Don’t come back unless it’s with Ferit.

They leave.
Halis is standing with his cane, watching them leave.
Latif comes in. Halis tells him to bring Ibo. Latif hesitates, and he repeats the order. He tells him Ibo’s father is sick and he gave him the time off. What about Abidin, then? He’s looking for Ferit.
Halis: Latif! He grabs him by the arm and tells him he didn’t think this through. You were blind to all of this. Whatever you do, bring Ferit back right now. Or I will tear this house apart! Right now! Latif tells him, as he wishes.

Lobo - I mislabeled this episode. It's Tuesday, April 14, #39.

Lobo

Comments

I just watched Monday night's episode that I couldn't watch Monday. Novelera, you asked about Pablo cashing the $10K check. They said it was a bearer check. Leonor probably wrote it that way because she didn't know Sue's legal name. So Pablo could cash it legally. I've done on much smaller checks, e.g. a new bride's legal name she's using after marriage or a family member in the process of changing their name.

Recaps

Novelera, you asked how we do them. I usually watch the show in Spanish, with Spanish subtitles, and scribble madly and almost illegibly on a legal pad. Catch up during commercials. I don't recap right away afterwards, because I like doing the New York Times crossword when it is released in the evening. I try not to watch the episode twice due to time constraints. But if dialog is complicated, I will stream it the next morning with English subtitles. With streaming (NBC app more robust than Telemundo app), I can pause whenever, and go back just a little bit.

When writing the recap, I take different colored pens to circle the main character's names on my legal pad. Then I can pull the story lines together by main character. I am not trying to do a transcript of a show.

I'll put up something tonight. I also watch in Spanish, with Spanish subtitles. My older TV doesn't have CC3. I began to learn Spanish in the early 90's. I had already studied Latin, French, Italian and Portuguese. Portuguese was because of a Brazilian man in my life. I worked with a lot of native Spanish speakers. I enrolled in a Spanish class at the local Adult Evening School. I moved through beginning, intermediate, and advanced Spanish at the same school. One of my co-workers recommended a telenovela that was going to premiere that week. This was a long time ago, so I recorded the episodes on a VCR so that I could stop, rewind and watch and listen again. I had tried to watch a telenovela before, but it was too confusing figuring out what was going on when you start in the middle.

I even tried a quarter of German a couple of years ago and hit the wall with verbs where a part is early in the sentence and the rest at the end. My great, great grandparents on my father's side emigrated from Germany.

I had some guys from El Salvador at my house recently painting the wood trim. I do just fine, but they praise my accent and fluency (probably compared with other English speakers who try). So, they don't even try to slow down the teensiest bit! Since it involves work and their being paid for it, I make sure to ask them to repeat if I haven't quite got it.

OT

I start my day with the New York Times games. Too impatient for the full crossword, but I do the Mini and the new Midi. I also play Connections and Wordle.

Lobo

Miércoles – Parte 1 Miranda breaks the news to Renata about her father. She’s very sad and wonders who the bad guys are. Meanwhile, her scheming mami thinks back to when she sold out Renata’s dad. Lobo is the one who reaches for her and comforts her.

Leonor tells Cruz and Graciela that they aren’t in a position to “bet the house” right now. They have to keep things on the down low. For a minute Leonor’s eyes well up.

Misael and César’s relationship is definitely warming up. Graciela catches them holding hands. She comes across as an accepting adult who will keep their secret.

Renata wants her mother to come live where she now lives with Lobo and Antonia. She’s told that Renata will be living with her mother and where they are now. The writers and the young actor do a good job of Renata assuming that, then, Antonia will also move in.

The tech is this show always confuses me. Somehow Ale can watch Antonia being tormented. He asks himself what Miranda did. Maybe I’m watching too many telenovelas/dizis but I didn’t seem to have fully grasped that Miranda was the one who set up the kidnapping of Antonia and her father.

Cocúla has sedated Antonia. El Az can’t believe Lobo hasn’t taken the bait. Then he gets the idea that Lobo is “busy” with Miranda and not seeing the awful videos. He then makes a dire threat, and Ale is quite worried. He buzzes Miranda. She then coldly tells him to intercept all calls to Lobo’s phone. Ale is getting a good look at the malignant narcissist he’s fallen for. She says that she’ll tell them not to hurt Antonia.

Ignacio wants to speak to his father alone. He asks that Sué not be bothered by the cops.

Leonor tells Graciela that Cruz never loves anyone and that she’s just the new toy.

Renata’s bedroom is set up. She’s given some books while Lobo and Miranda stage whisper to one side. Lobo realizes that Renata is safer here. But he won’t move in. He explains what he’s done to help Renata. He ended up loving her. Antonia was there also. They became a family. He says again that he loves Antonia and can’t live without her.

Leonor calls Plácido for a meeting and seduces him, seemingly out of spite for the Cruz and Graciela situation.

Cruz has come to where Pablo was found and screams at him. It seems Pablo’s machismo has disappeared. He begs and sobs. Eventually Cruz shoots him in the head. No big loss.

lobo

Miércoles – Parte 2 Lobo bids goodbye to Renata, promising to come every day and to bring Antonia.

Miranda gets Ale to send messages to Lobo as if it were Antonia. She gets impatient with his style and does it herself by text. “Antonia” asks Lobo to stop contacting her. She needs time to clear her head. She’s with her dad. When you see Renata, give her kisses from me. We’ll find a way to explain to her that our thing is over. Lobo immediately calls her back to leave a message of how much he loves her. Lobo then calls Adela.

Our new young gay couple are painting in the park and enjoying themselves.

Graciela visits Nacho and asks to see a photo of Sué. She’s definitely auditioning for kind stepmom.

Renata annoys her mother by talking about the things she did with Antonia and the way Antonia fixed her hair.

Antonia wakes briefly only to get injected again. If the guy who does it is El Az’s younger son, he’s definitely sadistic.

Fer tries to tell Lobo that the re-appearance of Miranda may have affected Antonia. Lobo insists that Fer track her phone.

Miranda tells Renata that Antonia lied to her. And that Antonia will go back with her family. Renata says that Lobo won’t travel without Antonia to the border because she’s sure they’re getting married. Miranda’s face is frozen.

"LOBO"
Novelera: I hope Alejandro realized that Miranda is using him for her own benefit. My personal thoughts on last night's episode.

*Slippery Cruz shoots Pablo to death: Good riddance!

*Jackass Big Ed still an uppity jackass!

*We know damn well Buji Goldie Locks will NOT keep the secret about Misael & Cesar.

*Lady Macbeth going downright crazy. I'm just waiting for the Gran Final of this Telenovela.

*Lobo: Miranda is playing you for a sucker once again OMG. Fer was spot on about Clingy Miranda.

*They better NOT kill off Antonia & Eugenio.

Lobo

Miranda sent a mystery text to Azufrero the other day telling him to kill Antonia. For some reason, he is obeying it to a point. But he realizes he needs Antonia alive to get the money. At any rate, even just kidnapping Antonia keeps Anta out of Renata's life. Mission accomplished.

Sorry Steve, I believe Eugenio was a dead man walking as soon as he was kidnapped. He is expendable. His death will also allow Antonia to leave the country with Lobo and Renata in the finale.

I agree that Cesar and Misael's secret is not safe with Graciela.

I can't believe that Leonor "serviced" Azu in the back of the SUV. Sorry, Big Ed is past his prime. Leonor will do anything for the money.
