Notes from the Couch

1. Hugo runs into Vale on the track and wants to go racing with her. She asks if Nayeli is better. He says she is. It must have been a case of low blood pressure. She talks about how strange Nayeli was. He tells her that he and Nayeli broke up. She asks why?

2. Meli calls out Alexa in front of he mocking friends. She tells her that she thought she was her friend. Then she found out she was only being friends with her to get tickets for her stupid concert. She lied to her face and stole a photo of her dad. She trusted her and thought she was her best friend. Her father wrote a really ugly article about her father. She only made fun of her, her family and her daddy who is in heaven. Nobody ever made her feel as bad as she did. She never wants. to talk to her again. Alexa is visibly upset.

3. At another spot on the playground, one of Dani's classmates is telling the tale of how the article said that Dani's father spent his fortune on betting and even had lovers. How disgusting! She always knew that there was something strange about THOSE PEOPLE and never liked them. Dani overhears and challenges her to tell it to her face.

4. Hugo tells Vale that he caught Nayeli lying to him about a lot of things. She fooled and disappointed him but he admits that it was never gong to work any way because he he cannot get over Vale. He tried to forget her but he can't He kisses her and SHE DOESN'T PULL AWAY. Nayeli and Eleazar have more than enough time to see it.

5. Dani's classmate tells her she is only repeating wha everyone is saying. Her father wasn't exactly y a saint. Dani informs her that she has no idea who her father was. The final straw is when the classmate tells Dani that it is time for her to realize that her father is DEAD. Dani attacks and the girls are soon fighting on the ground.

6. As the kissing seems to go on forever, Nayeli runs away. Vale finally pulls away and tells Hugo that she thought they had already talked about this. To her, he is her best friend. That's it. She doesn't want him to confuse things. He knows all that but he isn't about to pretend that he doesn't feel what he does for her. He is going to win her heart. He goes to change into his racing gear.

7. Eleazar approaches Vale saying how "cute" it is that Hugo is playing with her when he already has a novia. She tells him that he broke up with his novia. He
Has no right to get involved in her business as she doesn't get involved with him and Rebe. He starts to cry and tells her that he is sad that, loving each other like they do, they cannot be together. That is what really hurts. He apologizes for worrying about her.

8. Nayeli confronts Hugo in the locker room. She wonders about how easy it is for him to change girlfriends from one day to the next like getting rid of an old helmet or an old pair of cheap sandals that are not useful anymore. He only broke up with her yesterday and today already he is kissing Miss Fancy Schmancy. He insists that it wasn't planned that way. She agrees because she thinks that it has always been that way. He has always been thinking of Vale. He blames her for lying but he has lied to her like a taxi driver who keep saying you are almost here. He lied to her every time he said he cared for her. He says that wasn't a lie. but . . . She says BUT nothing. He used her so he wouldn't feel so alone. She was a distraction. He starts to explain himself and she cuts him off with a slap. He is like one of those repeated telenovela episodes that isn't entertaining anymore. She never wants to see him again. She leaves. He looks sad.

9. Vero calls Consuelo to tell her that Aurelio left and wasn't doing well when he left. His blood pressure must have been sky high. She is worried about him. Consuelo tells her she will take care of him.

10. Carmen notices that Vero is late getting to work. Vero says it has been a hard day already. Carmen wants Vero to be aware of the fact that Nayeli fainted the day before. Vero didn't know and will talk to her. Carmen thinks it is important because Nayeli she is her nephew's novia and they could be presenting them with a little surprise . . .

11. Dani arrives at the house with scratches on her face from the fight. Somebody talked bad about her dad and she had to defend him. Meli acts out the fight. Dani is clearly pleased with herself.

12. At the office, Vale greets Romina who has a different reaction to her knowing that she is her niece now. Vale asks if something is wrong. Romina quickly says she heard about the nasty article. Vale answers that it is a nightmare but she knows who her parents were. Romina says that is important.

13. Vero treats Dani's scratches but Dani tells her to stop because it burns. Vero tells her that violence never solves anything. Dani explains that she exploded when she heard them making fun of her father. She couldn't take it, so, the threw her on the ground and pulled her hair.

14. Joaquín has been listening and tells her that Vero is right. The school called and she has been suspended for one day. Dani says that is not fair. Another girl started it. She gets a lecture about dealing with things verbally and not with physical violence. He knows it hurts her to hear somebody talk about her father like that. She is not alone. He puts his arms around her and she cries. He will always be there for her. Dani says that Joaquín and Vero seem like a mother and a father when they are like this. Everyone smiles especially Joaquín at Vero who notices.

15. As Nico thinks back on hearing that Lorena had a daughter, Consuelo comes in to tell him that things with Aurelio took a bad turn. He found out that Romina knew that he and Beatriz put Vero's baby up for adoption. Romina did not take it well and they ended up arguing. Vero is worried that something could happen to him with his anger. Nico tries to call him (uh, he only lets it ring twice???) and there is no answer. Nico will go out and look for him. too. Nico calls Bruno to also look for Aurelio.Bruno explains that he is at work. He had to deliver some papers to the race track and now is sitting enjoying a hamburger at LORENA'S snack bar at the track. Suddenly, Nico has something else to think about besides Aurelio.

16. Vero gets a call from Consuelo. She had found him at a taco stand eating what he shouldn't. He was very depressed saying that his daughters hated him. She tried to talk some sense to him but he started to run away like a little kid. She tried to follow him but he did disappeared. He won't answer his phone. Vero says she will try to find him. Nico is helping, too. Vero calls Aurelio but he isn't answering. She leaves a message to call her.

17. Consuelo is praying for Aurelio at the neighborhood shrine when Nayeli appears and tells he rthat Hugo never loved her. She caught him kissing Vale. Consuelo hugs her.

18. Meli tells Joaquín that she fought Alexa but not like Dani. SheTOLD her she was a liar because she pretended to be her friend to get a photo and a concert ticket. Joaquín explains that sometimes adults drag kids into things that they do not understand. Her father made some mistaken decisions. Meli thought Alexa was her friend. Joaquín explains that although it hurts a lot, this experience will make her stronger and she will learn how to recognize who deserves her dear little heart. Meli hugs him.

19. When Flores gets home, Alexa says that she knew he was writing about Meli's family but not like this. Flores defends himself saying that is what journalism is. Alexa explains that the man was her friend's father and he portrayed him as a monster. It isn't only an article. it is something that will hurt Meli and her family everyday. She disagrees with his assertion that this is the "TRUTH". She sees it as hurting somebody who cannot defend himself. His work hurts her, too. It makes her feel ashamed. She doesn't know what hurts her more: what he did to them or what he made her feel. Now she doesn't know who the real monster is: Meli's dad or HIM???

20. Vero goes to clean Vale's room where Vale wants to talk about Hugo and Nayeli. Vero says she had no idea that Nayeli and Hugo had broken up. Vero says she will have to talk to her. Vale makes it clear that she likes Nayeli. That being said, she doesn't know if she could forgive a person, who supposedly loved her, for lying to her. (she is starting to sound as rigid as her grandfather)

21. Nayeli tells Consuelo it wasn't even a day after they broke up that he was kissing another girl. He moved on more quickly than an empty bus on a street with no traffic. Consuelo advises her to cry all she wants but not to break down. She tells her that she ls not nothing. It hurts but Hugo is the one who lost. Your first love hurts like a knife cutting your heart into little pieces. It burns at first but it heals. Nayeli assure she she will wring Hugo out of her heart like you wring a dish cloth until the last drop is gone.

22. Vale tells Vero she is angry about the article but that cannot be helped. Vero says people will write anything the money. They do not think about the pain they cause. Vero cannot stand those filthy journalists (whoopsie, that could be another strike against Vero) Vero says there are some who are ethical.
Vero has an idea to help deal with her anger. She will help her write the "anti-article" that can be a tribute to her father so everyone knows who her father was though her eyes. They can then publish it on the internet. Vale likes the idea.

23. Claudia talks with her mother and brother at the snack bar and decides to delete her father's phone number. Claudia and Eleazar delete his number. Lorena says they have a family with the three of them and can be happy looking ahead. They all love each other.

24. At work, Majo calls Diego to see how he is doing. He tells her that he apologized to Joaquín and all is well. Majo is happy for him. He doesn't know how much she wants to be with him and kiss him. Iván overhears.

25. Romina arrives at Joaquín's house to bring him his computer that he forgot at work. He also wants to talk to her about what happened with the article. Romina understands. He gets a phone call and leaves for a moment. In the meantime, she overhears and then sneaks a peak of Vale her niece and Vero interacting. She has to smile and then it all brings tears to her eyes. Joaquín returns and asks if she is all right.

26. Out on the street and still enraged, Aurelio tries to call Vero but nobody is answering so he leaves a message. He tells her that he is her father. It isn't right that he should have to pay for her mistake. She got pregnant. He helped her. He did what he had to do. He didn't do anything else. He screams: DOES SHE UNDERSTAND??? He is not going get tired saying it and will say it until he is dead!! He has difficulty breathing, coughs and falls to the ground unconscious. Strangers surround him trying to help and call for an ambulance.

27. Iván wants to know who Majo was talking to, how old he is, where he works. He wants answers now! She cannot believe he is acting a like a jealous father. She makes it clear that she is not his property. She is a grown a woman and none of this is his business. She leaves. He is left confused.

28. Nayel and Consuelo are walking down the street. Nayeli thinks it is better to never fall in love because when it is over it makes your soul feel like it has been pulled out by its roots. Consuelo tells her that love never ends. Sometimes we bury it or cover it with pride, anger or distance but it remains beating quietly waiting for somebody to awaken it some day. Nayeli asks if her mother ever had a love like that. Consuelo nods. She had one love like that in her life. She loved the person with her whole heart even though the love was an impossible one. Suddenly they notice people rushing down the street and decide to see what is going on.

29. Consuelo and Nayeli see what is causing the commotion. Aurelio's body is on the ground. Consuelo runs to him. She calls out his name begging God to not to do this to her and not to take him. She calls out to Aurelio HER LOVE. Nayeli hears her. Consuelo begs her love not to leave her. She kisses his head.

30. Joaquín asks if he can help Romina seeing her emotional state. She says it is just family , basically relationship issues. She asks if he has heard that she and Marcos are having problems. He admits he has heard some talk of it at work.. He wants her to know that she can count on him. She thanks him. Vero walks in and stares at Romina. Joaquín asks if there is a problem.

31. A smiling and applauding Facundo walks in on Lorena and her children. He remarks what a happy family they are. Claudia tells him that they decided to erase her father's phone number. They do not want to know anything about him. Facundo remarks that it looks like Lorena ended up getting her way. Lorena asks him not to start. She says the subject of Nico is over. He is totally in agreement because that guy was a reverend. He pretends to pray as Nico walks in the door asking what were they saying about a reverend??? Lorena gets up to greet him. Claudia asks if he is her father.

32. Vero says nothing is wrong. She heard there was someone else in the house and wanted to know if they wanted something to drink. Nobody wants anything. Vale runs out to ask Joaquín not to take Vero from her. She wraps her arms around her. Vero is helping her with something. Vale kisses Romina on the cheek and leaves with Vero. Joaquín smiles and tells Romina that Vero has done so much for the kids. It is like magic. Romina says she can tell.

33. Consuelo accompanies Aurelio in the ambulance as a part of the family. She tells Aurelio she is there with him.

34. Joaquín and Romina talk. Romina says she knew that Vero was in contact with Susana before the accident about an article on women backing their husbands or something like that. What ended up being published was Flores' work not Vero's. She hopes that Flores' article is soon forgotten about. Joaquín wants Romina to know that he never doubted her. He thanks her for coming.

35. On the way to the hospital, Aurelio's heart stops and he has to be shocked twice. Consuelo thanks God his heart is beating again. .

36. Claudia asks her mother if Nico is her father. Lorena says yes and he is a priest. Nico asks Eleazar if he remembers him when he saw him the last time. Facundo is delighted that he is a man of God. When he was with Lorena, he had another kind of life. He thought maybe Nico had populated half of Itzapalapa all by himself with his blessings. Lorena cannot take his ignorant remarks but cannot shut him up. Facundo continues saying that Lorena suffered after Nico left thinking that he had another family. Nico says he does have another family: the church and all of the people he shares it with every day, people who confide their fears and pain in him. Those are the same people that he tries to give some peace to in this crazy world. Facundo cannot help but laugh. Nico smiles at Claudia. She smiles back.
