La Fuerza del Destino #97 Tue 12/20/11 Farewell Maripaz, Que en Paz Descanse

RECAP BY IBARRAMEDIA

Capitulo 97 Maripaz's Sacrifice/Descanse en Paz

Part1
At Alamos, Sonora-- Ivan,Lucia and Maripaz arrives while Cleto greets them. Maripaz asks for as minute of Ivan's time. Meanwhile Cleto asks Lucia how her mother is doing. Lucia says she's better, better. Thank you. She is calm and will have surgery soon. Cleto asks why what is it? Lucia responds by saying it is a kidney problem.

The scene shifts to Ivan speaking to Maripaz. He says of course but doesn't understand. Maripaz asks Ivan to tell Alex she is making a big sacrifice for her mother, Alex's grandmother and for him. She wants him to admire and earn her love. Ivan says very good and she thanks him. After Lucia finishes answering Cleto's questions, she thanks him for his concern. Ivan returns to Lucia and she asks what is it? He says he doesn't know. Truthfully he does not understand it.

Back at home, Ivan speaks to Tony about his conversation with Maripaz. Tony tells Ivan to explain to Alex that Maripaz is donating her kidney to her mother but not to tell him about her sacrifice, etc, etc. Tell him nothing about that nonsense. He feels the child may feel guilty if something were to go wrong.

They discuss at great length how generous Maripaz is by donating her kidney. Tony says generosity must come from inside her not because she is obligated to help her. They accept the generosity but not to make her a victim.

Meanwhile Lucia attends to the baby Perlita. There is a knock on the door and it is Maripaz who wishes to speak to Lucia. She asks if she could enter and Lucia says yes you can. Maripaz greets Perlita Hello Little niece. I think that Lucia is saying that she is wondering how Maripaz is the only complatible donor. Maripaz is saying that giving up one's kidney is not easy. They discuss Ivan,Camilo and Antolin willing to be donors. She says something about the both of them. Maripaz responds by saying that I'm the mother of Alex and the father of Perlita is Saul. Tjhey argue and bicker. Lucia asks "what she is talking about?" Maripaz says that it's her turn now. She goes on to say that Lucia was always been the only saint, the good one, Lucia who could do no wrong, generous Lucia. Now it's my turn i'm doing something significant for my mother. Saving their mother's life will be her and not you Lucia. As she departs the room,Maripaz says to Perlita goodbye pretty one while Lucia sort of rolls her eyes while dissecting all of this.

At the office, Ivan meets with Antolin and Camilo. He tells them that Maripaz is a match. Camilo asks if she accepts and agrees. Ivan says yes. Antolin exclaims his surprise at the turn of events. The talk turns to how Carolina is doing. Antolin says they are happy. Everything is all good. He asks that both Ivan and Camilo be the Godfathers to his son. Camilo asks if it's a boy and Antolin says yes Ivan congratulates Antolin. Antolin says something to Camilo, then turns towards Ivan who looks on awkwardly and uncomfortably.

At the Sacred Heart Hospital, we see Carlota sitting down and waiting while Lucresia lies in the bed. Lucia enters the room and says hello to her grandmother. She returns the greeting. Lucia kisses her mother on the forehead, and she wakes and greets her daughter with "my love". Lucia asks her what she needs. Lucresia says she doesn't need anything. The doctors are here ad she's sick. She asks where Maripaz is. Lucia says she's still at hime. Relax. Lucia says she will return. Carltoa touches Lucresia's arm as she bids goodbye. Lucresia weeps silently.

While walking out of Lucresia's room Lucia explains to Carlota how this sudden transformation into a heroine by Maripaz is because of her. She feels that Maripaz is competing with her. Later on Ivan goes into Alex's room where he is using his laptop. Evidently they are studying human anatomy and the functions of the various organs of the body like lungs, heart, intestines, kidneys. They talk about the kidney being used to filter blood and other waste products. He tells Alex that his grandmother is very sick with bad kidneys and that she needs a donor. Alex asks if she is dying.

Back at the ranch Carlota sees Maripaz sitting down with thoughts on her mind. She says it's good to rest. They revert to bickering and Maripaz states how Lucia is good and that they turned Alex against her, told him she's a witch. That she is a bad person. They talk about Lucia being good and Maripaz's mistakes and errors. Maripaz says she is not a monster and she would like to do good by her mother. Carlota regrets that Maripaz will donate a kidney to Lucresia to compete with Lucia. Back in Alex's room, Ivan continues to explain that his mother, Maripaz is donating her kidney to help save the life of his grandmother. Alex thinks she must be good to do that kind of thing.

In David's apartment, David with Berenice tells Ester that the divorce will soon be finalized with the division of assets, you're a rich lady. Berenice adds that they are all free. Ester says that she will live with her sister and Berenice adds that Ester is young and pretty and she might find a good man. Ester mentions something about making a will and adding David and Judith in it. David asks if she is alright and she says yes. He asks what about Saul. Ester quietly shakes her head to indicate no. They say something about the lands.

Night falls and amidst the backdrop of a fountain and 2 frog statues we see a lonely and forlorn Juan Jaime Mondragon. He walks quietly around the darkly lit mansion. He then quietly picks up the phone to call Lucresia. Carlota picks up the phone and they both share pleasantries. Juan Jaime asks to speak to Lucresia but Carlota says she is sorry Lucresia is not available because she is in the hopsital. Juan Jaime asks why? Carlota explains the dialysis failed and that she is getting ready for a transplant. Carlota adds that Maripaz is donating her kidney. Juan Jaime wants to wait in the hospital. Carltoa says that at this time only immediate family can wait. Juan Jaime asks if tomorrow is the surgery. Carlota confirms this.

At sacred Heart Hospital, Ivan goes to see Lucia whom is keeping vigil at Lucresia's bedside. He asks how she is. Lucia says she's a nervous. Ivan asks Lucia to get something to eat in the cafeteria. Lucia says she is not hungry. Lucia asks if he spoke to Alex. Ivan says yes. He told Alex that Maripaz will be the donor. They say something about it being good for both Alex and Maripaz. They then talk of getting married. Getting their own place....

Part2
At Antolin and Carolina's bedroom, they talk about the ranch and the job... It's not easy running the ranch. Carolina says she is a strong woman and then she flexes her biceps. They talk about Lucia's mother being sick and Antolin says yes. And tomorrow is the surgery. They express shock that Maripaz is donating her kidney. They hope all is well. They then proceed to play around in bed.

It is now the morning of the operation and we see Juan Jaime at the foot of Lucresia’s bed. He tells her not to worry. Lucresia says that she has been bad and that she is being punished and that she could die.
Juan Jaime says that’s nonsense. You’re a great lady. Lucresia says she doesn’t know about that. Juan Jaime wants to get together with Lucresia. Lucresia reaches out her hand and says that they are good friends forever. A nurse enters the room to say that it is time. The nurse tells Juan Jaime to wait in the waiting room. Juan Jaime kisses her on the forehead.

In Maripaz’s room, she says my God, I’m here really nervous. There is a knock on the door and Maripaz says yes. It is Lucia and she says hi to her sister. She thanks her for what she will do for their mother. She hopes that one day they both can have a relationship as sisters and not as enemies. Maripaz seems to look a little touched by this after being slightly defensive earlier. Ivan knocks on Maripaz’s door and both he and Alex enter with a single yellow rose. Alex tells her that she is so brave. She tells him she’s making a sacrifice. Before she could say more, Ivan cuts her off and speaks gently to her with reassurances. Before Alex leaves, she requests a kiss from her son and he obliges. He wishes his mother good luck.

Lucresia is wheeled into surgery. They say their goodbyes then Carlota and Tony look at each other lovingly from a distance. Then she walks over towards Tony and they hold hands. He says cheer up, have courage. Carlota says it’s her daughter. He says it’s normal to feel this way. Both of them will recover. Maripaz is now being wheeled in. Carlota looks and touches her lovingly. Despite what she might have done in the past, she is still her granddaughter. She loves her and she will be the key to her daughter living. Maripaz has a worried look on her face. Carlota thanks her. Maripaz says you’re welcome. Carlota says let’s go. Maripaz says let’s go.

Mother and daughter are wheeled in end over end and they clasp hands to get ready for surgery. Lucresia thanks Maripaz.

At the office, Camilo says they are at the hospital now. David says yes. They talk business a bit and David says Lucia and everyone are at the hospital. Camilo asks if they have any idea where Saul is. Conversation becomes a little heated at this point.

During the surgery the doctors are very concerned because something wrong is happening. A lot of blood is being lost. There’s hemorrhage. They cannot control the bleeding.

Ivan walks in the hospital. He asks how things are at home. Lucia says it’s better, better. Ivan says there won’t be troubles anymore. Forever. They kiss. Camilo walks in on them. Lucia looks at him then rushes to her grandmother. Juan Jaime walks towards them. At this time the doctor comes out and Carlota asks how the operation went. The doctor says they finished transplanting Maripaz’s kidney to Lucresia but they could not control the hemorrhage. He says he is so sorry but Maripaz had died in the process. Lucia starts to weep and Ivan sheds a tear. Despite all they had been through Maripaz was his first love, his former wife and the mother of his son Alex. Carlota now starts to cry. Lucia and Carlota embrace.

The doctor says Lucresia is well. She is in intensive care. Tony offers his condolences. Juan Jaime offers to take Lucia and Carlota to the house. They don’t want to go but Ivan convinces them that Mr. Mondragon is right. They should get some rest. Lucia thanks him. Juan Jaime says you’re welcome. Camilo says he is sorry. Lucia hugs Camilo. Tony tells Carlota to go home. There is no need for them to be here.

Carlota and Lucia go to see Maripaz’s body. They weep again. Carlota tells her to rest in peace. Lucia thanks her sister then kisses her on the forehead.

Back at home Cleto asks Ivan “what’s up?” Ivan says Maripaz died during the transplantation surgery. I think Cleto says My God in heaven. Ivan asks where they want to bury Maripaz. Lucia says right next to her father. Ivan says I’m here. Then after a brief discussion, Ivan has to go home. Carlota and Tony talk about how hard it is to lose a child. Tony says he lost his son and wife. Carlota is saying something about a high price to pay. Tony says that Maripaz demonstrated that there is goodness in her. Tony tells her to be strong for her daughter. He tells her not to have a great feeling of guilt. Be strong for your grand daughter and great grand kids, for Lucresia. They embrace.

Ivan has returned home and Benito asks how things went. Ivan says Lucresia’s operation was successful but they lost Maripaz in the process. She passed away. Benito does not know what to say. Ivan asks where Alex is. Benito says in his room. Ivan instructs Benito to pack some things since they will be going to the Curiel household. Ivan enters Alex’s room and says hello. Alex says hello. He talks about his grandmother’s and his mother’s operation. He says the operation is over. His grandmother is okay. But you’re mother….. She gave up her life so that his grandmother may live. He says she said she loved Alex very much. Ivan tells Alex about his mother named Alicia and how he loved her very much. He says that Alex’s mother loved him too even though she did not treat Alex well in the beginning. He tells Alex that Maripaz just did not know how to become a mother, but tried to overcome her fear so that she could be a better mother to him. She loved him but did not know how to show it. Alex says that to give up her life for his grandmother, she must be a good person. He then looks down into the picture frame with Maripaz’s picture in it. He looks sad. Ivan tells him that the best way to let her be at peace is to forgive her then let her go. He tells him to close his eyes. Alex says he forgives his mother, he will never forget her and farewell. He then hugs the picture and cries. Ivan also weeps by his side.

At the Sacred Heart Hospital, the doctor tells Juan Jaime that Lucresia is in room 305. He asks if she is awake. And he asks if she asked about her daughter. The doctor tells him to wait with the family and they will break the news to Lucresia.

At Lucia’s home, Lucia asks how Alex is doing. Ivan says well enough. She says good. Ivan asks about Lucia’s grandmother. She says she is waiting. Lucia gets a phone call. It is Juan Jaime and he says that Lucresia is now in intensive care and that the doctor needs the family to be there when he informs Lucresia that her daughter passed away. Lucia thanks him and says they will go there. Lucia relays this message to Ivan.

It is now night time when Lucresia regains her consciousness. The first thing she sees are pink roses with a yellow one in the middle. Juan Jaime says welcome back to life. Lucresia asks how Maripaz is doing. Juan Jaime says it was a success. She says she’s blessed and again asks about Maripaz. How is she? On cue, everyone files into the room. Lucia says how nice that you are well. Lucresia responds with “yes my love, thanks to Maripaz.” She again asks how Maripaz is. Carlota looks towards the doctor and he begins to explain. There was a problem in the operation. I’m so sorry. Lucresia says “I’m so sorry???” What are you talking about? She then realizes that her daughter died. She screams Maripaz is dead!!! Maripaz is dead! Why? She asks “why?” She become very inconsolable. Juan Jaime looks on sadly. Lucresia asks why her daughter died before she did?

A few days later, it is raining in the cemetery as Maripaz is laid to rest. The priest says a prayer for our sister Maripaz for the eternal repose of her soul. Carlota throws the first yellow rose then followed by Alex, Lucia and Ivan. Then the rest soon follow. Everyone is there. Even the servants. The only people absent are Lucresia who is still recovering in the hospital, Carmen, Lichita and of course the fugitives Saul and El Gordo.

Weeks later, Lucresia walks with Lucia and she wants to rest. Lucia says the doctor ordered her to exercise. Lucresia says she is tired. Lucia says a little more. Lucresia says that a little more and she will be able to visit her sister in the cemetery. Carlota remarks how nice it is that Lucresia is walking a lot more now...Lucresia asks how her granddaughter is. Lucresia says something about herself being a sinner. Lucia gives her daughter over to Lucresia to hold while she sits down.

In Hermosillo, Sonora we see Saul and El Gordo at a restaurant. They talk about being very desperate for money but to be very careful because they are worried about Antolin. They begin to put Alex’s kidnapping plan in motion.

End of episode 97.

Avances: Gordo, dressed like a clown (how appropriate), breaks into Caro’s house, holds her at gunpoint and ties her up, and takes Alex!

La Fuerza del Destino #96 Mon 12/19/11 Wayward Daughters Find Their Way Home, But Will They Disappoint Again?

Carolina has just broken the happy news to Antolín that she has a bun in the oven and he needs to chill out with all the twirling he’s doing with her in his arms. He is sure that any baby of his will be big and strong, and able to take a few whirls. They are both over the moon and celebrate with kisses (and hopefully more).

At Rancho Curiel, Ivan has come to visit Lucia to come clean about the conversation he had with Camilo about his intentions towards Lucia. Ivan initiated the conversation because he wants to be friends with Camilo again. He tells Lucia that Cam has accepted that Lucia is not for him, but admitted that he is still really in love with her. Ivan’s hoping that Cam will get over it. Lucia isn’t so sure it’s that easy. Either way, Ivan knows this situation is none of their faults; it’s just life. He apologizes for getting jealous. He trusts her and she’s free to do what she wants and befriend whom she wants. He was just being stupid.

MP interrupts them to report on Lucrezia’s continued weakened condition and vomiting. She asks Ivan if she can come see Alex that day, but he will be at Caro’s. MP gets permission to visit him tomorrow instead. She does all of this politely and then immediately leaves, to all of Viewerville’s surprise. Lucia seems to be softening too, because she tells Ivan of MP’s seemingly sincere desperate need for Alex to start loving her. Ivan doesn’t know what to do because Alex is scared of her. “We each reap what we sow”, says Lucia. (Cada quien cosecha lo que siembra.) Ivan tells Lucia about Carmen and Lichita’s disappearance.

Camilo and Anto have met up at a restaurant to discuss the same thing. They’ve had no luck with their inquiries of taxi drivers. They are sure Carmen went chasing after Saul, and if they are together they are probably hatching some plan to get money, like kidnapping someone. Anto thinks Cam could be a potential target (with his new job and all) so he should get his hands on a gun for protection.

JJ meets with a lawyer to see about formally acknowledging Carmen as his son’s woman and Lil’ Alicia as his grandchild. The lawyer wants him to be careful of this young woman living with him and asking for money. And on top of it, she’s Antolin’s sister! It all might just be a scheme to get money out of JJ.

In their new bedroom, Carmen has more important things to do, like watching her telenovela and filing her nails, than listening to her daughter. Lichita wants to go to school, instead of being cooped up in a room all day. Carmen ignores a call from Celia and Lichita questions why she hung up. She lies to Lichita that it wasn’t her grams and tells her to shut up. (Mother of the Year material, that one.)

Ivan visits Celia and tries to assure her that Carmen wouldn’t do something stupid (ha!), and is probably just with friends. The Galvan boys return home with no news.

At Casa Less-Meandragon, JJ has brought back a bag of new toys for Lichita. She’s initially pleased, but then complains that she already has plenty of dolls. What she wants is a toy dish/tea set (vajilla). JJ says he’ll get on it. He then orders Carmen off her lazy butt to the kitchen to help the maid prepare dinner. He actually does it fairly politely (for JJ), but there’s no doubt it’s an order. Carmen is still in enough doubt about her position in the Mondragon house to agree and hops to it.

Anto gives Celia something to be happy about by sharing the pregnancy news. Hugs all around from his mom, brother and Ivan. They all think that Carmen is a grown woman (mujer hecha y derecha) and can do what she wants, but Lichita is the real concern. Ivan wonders if she has a galan elsewhere. Celia thinks it’s her fault Carmen left because of their last big fight. She’ll check Lichita’s school tomorrow to see if Carmen has taken her.

MP cuddles her mom in bed and whines about how no one loves her, and how Lucia and Tony are saying things against her to Alex. Lucrezia urges patience. MP swears she’s sorry for the things she’s done, but now SHE needs love/affection (cariño). She NEEDS people to love her. The love of Lucrezia, who has always loved her no matter what, is not enough. Lucrezia advises her to behave and do good deeds. Having never attempted good deeds, MP even needs advice on what those could be. Lucrezia shakes her head.

Gordo and Saul get together in a bar in Hermosillo and discuss the addition of Gordo’s cousin to the plan. Soon, Saul will be able to leave his little rat buddies behind and live in luxury. They discuss the kidnapping plan. Gordo thinks Alex staying with blind Caro (guess he doesn’t know about the surgery) so often is the key to getting their hands on the kid.

Judith comes home and for the first time meets Lichita, who is having a fine time playing cards with her abuelo. (It’s kind of cute actually. Never thought I’d say that about a scene with JJ.)

Judith is even more shocked to see Carmen emerge from the kitchen decked in an apron and announcing that dinner is ready. JJ tells Judith that the house won’t feel so lonely anymore and bids them all to go to the dining room to eat.

David is just as shocked to hear this news from Judith later on the phone. Ditto Esther, when he passes the news on to her. Esther wonders if JJ is messing around with Carmen, but even David thinks that would be going too far for JJ to get involved with his son’s woman. He thinks it’s more likely that Carmen is holding something over JJ to blackmail him. Esther agrees that he sure as heck is NOT doing it out of the goodness (bondad) of his heart. (They both are underestimating the power of loneliness.)

Camilo tries to calm her, but Celia can’t sleep because of her worry about her daughter and granddaughter. David pays them a late night house call to break the news about Carmen and Lichita being the newest additions to the Mondragon household. They all think Carmen must have done something or is holding something over JJ to convince him to take her and Lichita in. Camilo takes off immediately with David to bring them back home. Celia insists on going too.

Ivan and Lucia have a pre-bedtime phone call, exchange love talk, talk of marriage, and gossip about Anto and Caro having a baby. Lucia asks Ivan if he’ll make any distinctions between Perla and Alex and any children they may have together. Of course not! Ivan is all for making their own version of “Yours, Mine and Ours”.

JJ’s peaceful night is disturbed by Camilo and Celia barging their way into his home and starting a screaming match with Carmen. Both Camilo and David start interrogating him about his reasons for letting Carmen and Lichita live with him. He says he doesn’t have to give them explanations. (I agree with him. Carmen’s a grown woman and Lichita’s his grandchild.) Celia says that Carmen DOES have to give her an explanation. Carmen says she’s tired of being treated like a second class citizen at home. (I don’t think she’ll like being treated like a servant and the nanny of his grandchild by JJ either.) She refuses Celia’s and Cam’s demands and pleas for her to return with them. JJ tells them to get out and pulls a gun on them all! Celia yells at him to shoot (dispare)! Shoot so that he can be hauled off to prison! Lichita is awakened by all this noise and wanders into the living room. She looks on in terror when she sees her new grandpa holding a gun to her beloved grandma.

Saul and Gordo sarcastically toast to a long life for JJ. (Anvil alert?)

JJ immediately lowers the gun under Lichita’s fearful gaze, and says he only wanted a better life for the little girl and to fix Saul’s error. Celia doesn’t think the way to do it is by buying her off with gifts and toys, but not with love and affection, which he’ll never be able to give her. Camilo insists they are taking Lichita with them. Carmen begs JJ to let her stay on her own, but his only interest was Lichita. He tells her to pack her stuff and go with her family. He says farewell to Lichita and tells her to behave. Carmen continues to beg, but Lichita is ready to go home and also encourages her mom to pack their stuff. (You know you’re acting a fool when a six year old is acting more mature than you are.) Lichita hugs her uncle and grandma, and Camilo thanks David for his help. After they leave, David and Judith wonder what JJ could have been thinking. Judith thinks it’s loneliness and mentions JJ’s request that she and Carlos live with him. David says he offered him the same thing with Bernie.

In Casa Galvan, Lichita says JJ is a good guy, but she wanted to return home. She says goodnight to Celia and Camilo, who tells her he NEVER wants her to leave this house. Lichita drags her wayward mommy off to bed. Celia asks Cam what they are going to do with Carmen. Cam doesn’t know. She can do what she pleases, but they sure as heck won’t let her take Lichita with her again. Celia can’t help but be worried about them both. Cam decides to call Anto with the news so that he can stop worrying and just enjoy the news of his baby with his wife.

Esther talks to the McGuire family lawyer, who I guess is now her lawyer, about her divorce case outside the judge’s chambers. JJ arrives for the appointment. He doesn’t bring a lawyer, but asks for some time alone with Esther. JJ admits that he learned too late what he was losing. He accepts that he was a blockhead (torpe). She doesn’t let him off the hook and reminds him how he continued his old ways, even after she came back to care for him. And to top it off, he was willing to frame her for his fraud! It’s better that it ends this way. She asks him to not make it more difficult. “Our relationship (lo nuestro) is over forever.” JJ accepts this as the last word and goes with her and her lawyer into the judge’s chambers.

Saul and Gordo discuss how to avoid a run-in with Anto when they attempt to kidnap Alex. They both want to get rid of him. They figure that he must be working regular office hours at the Ag Association now that his brother is the president. They decide they need to contact Carmen to get the inside scoop.

Lucia hangs out with Alex in his room and asks him to give MP a chance- tell her his stuff, share his music with her, and such. Ivan comes in to tell Alex MP has arrived. Alex agrees to chat with her for only a bit (un ratito). Once he’s out of the room, Lucia and Ivan discuss the situation. Ivan adored his mother because she was good and loving. But Lucia also loves her mother, who is anything but those things. They chuckle about this. Lucia loves her mom because they’ve shared some good moments, and Lucia understands her faults (defectos). Plus, she’s her mother. Ivan doesn’t think it’s good for Alex to be afraid of his mother. If he can get over that, he will be better off for it.

In the living room, MP is asking Alex if Tony or Lucia have been badmouthing her. She presses him when he denies it and asks if he’s lying. “I don’t lie!” (A trait he did NOT inherit from her. Actually, his looks are the only thing he inherited from her.) MP tells him she regrets the things she did and wants him to love her, because she’s his mother. “And that’s the only reason why I should love you?” “All kids love their mothers!”

Ivan waits nervously with Lucia in Alex’s room for the MP-Alex session to end. He finds the picture MP gave Alex of herself, turned face down on his shelves. In the living room, things are going a bit better, as Alex has taken Lucia’s advice to share about his favorite things with MP. He wonders why she doesn’t like Bruno. Because, he’s an animal. “Bruno is not an animal; he’s my friend!” MP is not impressed by friendships with perros. You would think she would be, considering she’s a perra. (Oops! Did I just say that out loud?) Tony interrupts before this argument can escalate. He has Alex take Bruno for a walk and sits down to chat with MP. She immediately starts accusing them of badmouthing her, and that’s why Alex won’t warm up to her. She’ll show them all that she’s BETTER than Lucia! As she’s leaving, Tony freaks her out by pretending Bruno has wandered back into the room. MP jumps half a foot in the air, causing Tony, and most of Viewerville, to chuckle.

Gordo stuffs his face as usual while he keeps an eye on Casa Galvan. Also as usual, Celia is cooking up something delicious in the kitchen. Camilo kisses her goodbye, and Carmen gives her plenty of sass before going out. Gordo follows her. She’s not happy to see him or to know anything about that good for nothing rapist Saul, but Gordo tells her it wasn’t like that.

MP is cuddling her mommy and whining, AGAIN. Lucrezia tells her to resign herself (resignate) to the situation, but MP refuses to let Lucia “win.” Everyone sees Lucia as being “buena, noble, generosa” and MP is sure she can be those things too. Lucrezia wonders what it is she wants—to win Ivan back by winning the heart of Alex? No, she just wants people to think she has changed and that she’s not a bad person. Lucrezia says she never thought she was a bad person. She just thought she was a bit wayward (descarriada) and different/odd (rara). She kisses her favorite child on the top of her head as they cuddle.

Speaking of wayward daughters, Carmen has decided to believe Gordo and Saul, of all people, above Lucia’s version of events. She knew Lucia offered herself up! She complains about how hard her life is and then readily offers up gossip about her brothers. This includes the news that Anto is married, that Caro now has sight, and Anto is working on Camilo’s ranch.

Gloria can’t lure Lucrezia out of bed nor tempt her with Jello and chicken soup. Just as Gloria is taking the tray of food away, Lucrezia cries out in excruciating pain and clutches her side while writhing on the bed. Lucia and MP come running. Lucia goes to call an ambulance as Carly comes in on the upsetting scene.

At the hospital, the Curiel women, minus Lucrezia, and with Ivan, meet with the doctor. It’s not good news. The treatment is no longer effective, her kidneys have totally failed, and a transplant is needed as soon as possible. Carly offers hers up. The doctor rules her out because of her age. Ivan and Lucia next offer their kidneys. MP seems to feel the peer pressure and hesitantly offers to donate hers. The doctor asks if she’s married or planning on having kids. Nope. Since Lucia does plan to marry and have more kids, the doctor warns her about all the dangers having one kidney poses on a pregnant woman. He warns her to think about it carefully. Ivan says they can also find other potential donors. They’ll begin to test everyone for compatibility. The ladies go in to see Lucrezia and Ivan gives Lucia a kiss for luck.

Lucrezia is in bed and on pain meds. When they tell her about the need for the transplant, she says she doesn’t want them sacrificing a kidney for her, given what a bad mother she’s been. Lucia says she’s made mistakes like everyone else, but she’s not a bad mother. (Lucia is a far nicer person than I.) MP says she has nothing to complain about. (Very true.) Lucia says they love her and they’re family. Lucrezia’s having a real redemption moment now. She is tearful and feeling very unworthy, especially considering how she tried to manipulate their lives. Lucia reminds her that she gave them life and stayed by their sides. MP says they need her. Carly urges her to be strong and fight. She’s important to all of them. She kisses her only daughter on her head and strokes her face.

Ivan accompanies Lucia and MP home. They will go do the compatibility studies tomorrow. If he’s a match, Ivan would much rather donate so that Lucia can be healthy to have children in the future. He’s sure Camilo and Antolin would also be willing. He knows she has the last word, and he’ll support whatever choice she makes. It doesn’t change their love for each other. They already have two kids anyway- Alex and Perlita.

Gordo reports on the conversation with Carmen to Saul. The fact that Anto is now living with his wife Caro, and therefore sleeping in the house at night, complicates things. Anto might recognize him, even if he’s masked. Considering his girth, Saul doesn’t think this would be so difficult for anyone. Saul thinks they should just kill anyone who gets in the way, and just be done with it. They think about what a good time they’ll have with lots of women (viejas) once they have their money.

Ivan discusses his desire to have a baby with Lucia with Tony; it’s his dream. To have a child with the woman you love is a blessing. But he is also pleased with the children they already have- Alex who is his, and Perla who is Lucia’s. “And like they say, what’s yours is mine.” Tony points out how he lost both his only child and the woman he loved, but look at him now. He has the son he chose. If all fathers could choose their sons, Tony bets JJ wouldn’t choose Saul. Benito announces Camilo. Ivan called him over to ask him something important. First, Cam tells him where they found Carmen.

Carly asks MP about her hesitation in offering to donate her kidney. She’s pretty sure Lucia is going to be the one ending up donating hers. MP gets offended. “Lucia, Lucia, always Lucia!” Doesn’t Carly think she’s capable of doing something so noble (digno)? “Well, are you?” MP wants to show the whole world that she can be better than Lucia. Carly doesn’t understand this obsession with competing with Lucia when Lucia has always loved MP. MP says it’s not true; Lucia has always envied her! She took her man and her child! “Ay Maripaz, Maripaz.”

Camilo accepts getting tested for compatibility; Tony’s age and heart condition prohibit him. Camilo is concerned for how much Lucia must be suffering.

Well folks, time has passed, and the results are in! (Drum roll please…) And the lone compatible person is…..Maripaz Lomeli!! Come on down!!!!! Oh wait, MP’s face does NOT look like someone who has won a coveted prize. She looks downright terrified, in fact. Lucia asks about her own compatibility, but she is not a match. Ivan offers himself, Camilo and Antolin, but MP seems resigned to her fate. They’ll get started on the paperwork right away.

Carly checks in on Lucrezia and gives her the news about MP’s compatibility. Lucrezia starts to cry. She would prefer to die than have her daughter go through that. Carly gives her a pep talk. She and MP will be fine soon, but of course they will then have to take certain precautions. MP will give Lucrezia life, just like Lucrezia gave her life. “It’s not fair mama. It’s not fair.”

Avances: MP thinks she’s won the nobility game and gloats to Lucia. MP kisses Alex, who wonders if perhaps she isn’t as bad as he thought, and he visits her in the hospital. MP and Lucrezia hold hands before surgery. Something goes horribly wrong during the procedure and the doctor says we’re losing her! The doctor comes to the waiting room with a grim look on his face. Did one of them not make it? Who could it be?

La Fuerza del Destino #95 Fri 12/16/11 Sound the Alarms!

We’re near the end of this family tragedy and it seems that Lucrecia is as well.  She’s hobbling to her bed as we rejoin the Amazons of Alamos, las Curiel.

Cleto walks into the kitchen for a cuppa jo and well-meaning Gloria whose neurons don’t quite spark with a full charge, asks him if the Sra. is going to die and then leave her (fully adult) daughters orphaned.  Cleto loses patience–guess there’s a first time for everything—and grouses at her to keep her silly (and moribund) thoughts to herself.

Judith and her now fiancé are discussing her nasty papa’s offer to live at the lair—er, the manse after they’re married.  Nothin’ doin’ says Mr. O.  Let the sonofaslug learn what it is to be lonely and rejected by those he used to abuse.  Anyway, he’s independent and means to stay that way.  Judith’s not going to disagree but says she’s sure he feels loneliness—especially now.

Juan Jaime calls over to speak to Lucrazia and finds out she’s got bad kidneys and just finished taking her first hemodialysis treatment.  They agree it would be best if he visits tomorrow instead of dropping by today.

At the same time, Maripaz’s first official visitation date with Alex is a virtual flop.  Alex is forced to say “Hi” and asks afterwards to be excused.  MP whines to Ivan about it.  He says it’s not his fault the kid doesn’t like her or that now she feels lonesome and shunned.  She races out in tears and drives back to the rancho to ask Carlota to let her come back home.

MP whines now to Carly that Alex has rejected her.  “What did you expect --especially after telling him you’d just used him to force his daddy to marry you?”  Well, says MP, she regrets that and the way she’s treated all the others in her family.  She wants to come back home.  Why should she let her, asks Carly.  Merry Piece ain’t feelin’ so merry anymore and she needs the love and acceptance that only a family gives.  Suddenly Lucia races in to inform Carly that Mama has just vomited again.

All three race to Lucrazia’s bedroom.  Maripaz finds out that Mama needs dialysis because her kidney’s are giving out.  MP goes over to her mother’s bedside and tells her she’s there for her.  Finally Lucrazia has something to smile about.  She grins from ear to ear and hugs MP tight.  This is not lost on either Lucia or Carly.

In another--rat-infested--part of town, El Gordo is spending time with his cousin and her hubby.  He offers to have Hubby help him with the kidnapping which should give them a take of six million American greenbacks!  Sure, yeah!  No, really!  He talks Hubby into going with him to see what he means.

Berenice drops in at David’s apartment where Esther’s been staying with him and finally meets her.  David shows up and the two finally make up –but only after David agrees never to keep her out of the loop with anything ever again!   (Good gawd!!)  FF>>

Ivan visits Lucia and mentions Alex’s rejection of his mother. They discuss Lucrazia’s disease and about Maripaz’s being allowed to move back in; so many worrisome things are happening one right after another!  It’s only a bad spell, but it will pass, he assures her. Then, they discuss (PSA alert!) how somebody in the family usually donates a kidney in these kinds of situations and how they’ll wait, otherwise, for one from some other donor from wherever it comes, the U.S., Mexico, etc.  He’ll be there for her and can’t wait till they are together forever and always.  FF>>

At breakfast the next morning, Antolin and Camilo discuss Lucia’s being raped by Saul Mondragon, and that Perlita is really his daughter, the cowardly wretch! Carmen butts in and says Saul is HOT!  He doesn’t need to rape someone! She believe’s Saul’s version that Lucia wanted it.  Arcelia joins the conversation, which is decidedly negative after the way Saul treated Carmen and Lichita.  Anto and Cam start arguing with the slutty, nutty Carmen, the way they’ve had to live with the gossip and rumors about the numerous bastards he’s littered the region with—including her own!  They pretty much tell her to cram it cuz she’s got nothing to brag about since the slug wouldn’t marry her or give her kid a name. Cam says Lucia is too decent to do what Carmen suggests.  Carmen sneers that that’s why she left him for Ivan the minute he returned to town!  Antolin can’t understand why Carmen’s always got to badmouth someone and is so envious of what everybody else has!  Naw, they aren’t exactly white as the wind-driven snow [la paloma blanca = lit. white doves] themselves, what with Cam fooling around with his sister-in-law and Anto, a known criminal and jailbird!

Celia has heard enough and lets loose with a huge slap across Carmen’s mouth.  Carmen breaks the dish she’s holding and sneers that she’s tired of being the slave in that household any longer!   She races off to her room. (Viewerville says good-riddance!)

El Gordo’s cousins are arguing.  Hubby is a drunk and can’t find any liquor.  He blames it on not having money and says he needs to get with Gordy on that job—then they’ll have the money for whiskey!  Hubby storms out and finds a payphone.  He calls Gordy to tell him he’s in

Back at El Socorro, Lucia gets a visit from Cam.  He apologizes for his bad ‘tude all those many months and can’t they now be friends.  She says sure.  Ivan walks in and Cam slinks out.  Lucia explains Cam’s visit.  When Lucia asks Van if he’s jealous, he says he’s certain after living so many months together they had various things to discuss, but no, he’s not jealous—Or should he be?  She says not at all and gives him a big smooch. Lucia tells Ivan that she’s worried that nut-job sister of hers will do something to Perlita now that Carly’s allowed Maripaz to return to live at home again.   She doesn’t trust her as far as she can throw her.

Juan Jaime Mondragon, aka Juan Jeil-me Meandragon, is downing tequila in his cavernous, echoing, and empty lair when David brings over the divorce papers to his papi for his signature.  His mama’s asking for half of everything JJ owns—er, what’s left of it that is.  He whines about just having paid back 40 million pesos to The Association.  “--She now wants half of what it took me a lifetime to build up?  So easy for her!”   Esther can go jump in a lake if she’s not willing to come back where she belongs.  Dave says not a chance; that he’s gotten what he asked for.  He drove her off; she got fed up from all his abuse and now she wants what’s rightfully hers.  Don’t make them go to a judge and force the situation, he warns.

Gordy and Cuz spy on Alex as he’s leaving school.  The guy wonders why he’s going to public school if his daddy’s so rich.  What does it matter?  His daddy’s Ivan McGuire!!  Now you can believe him that there’ll be millions of American dollars involved in this.  Cuz tells Gordy he thinks they should kill Benito who could be a pain for them when the time comes to snatch Richy Rich, but Gordo says nothin’ doin’.  They agree to observe his and Benito’s every move from now on.

A bit later that day, JJ pays Lucrecia a visit to cheer her up.  She’s so depressed and uses his shoulder to snivel on.  He suggests the two of them get married.  Riiiiight.  Two old invalided grandparents? She has to snicker at that one.  No thanks, that boat has sailed for them.  They’ll still be dear friends, tho’.   FF>>

Alex refuses to visit with Maripaz this time and Ivan doesn’t force the issue.  He tells MP the truth.  She’s certain tho’ that it’s only because he and Lucia have bad-mouthed her to him.  Now Lucia’s taken everything that’s hers: Ivan, her family and her little boy.  Ivan swears it’s nothing like that.  It’s the nasty way she treated him from the beginning and the kid, being only ten, simply can’t be reprogrammed like a little robot the way she wants.  Just then Anthony walks out with Bruno who growls at her and says maybe Bruno was the one who badmouthed her to Alex.  (Why not?  MP’s an alley cat after all.)  MP cowers in the corner as soon as she sees the dog.   (Hmmm.  Possible maul alert?)

Van tells Tony what happened with Alex and Tony doesn’t blame the kid in the least.  She’s crap as a mother and everyone knows it!  Van mentions MP’s moving back in at the ranch and that he’s worried she’ll cause trouble for Lucia.  “—Then get married!”  No, he wouldn’t dare bring it up now with all the family problems they’re going through.  It will have to wait.  Besides, both of them just got divorced and really should wait a decent amount of time before getting remarried.

Speaking of the Queen of Roma, Merry Piece drives back to the ranch and politely asks Cleto to take her bags in for her. Merry Piece is dragging her tail behind her.  Carly isn’t very happy to see her there, but doesn’t object.  MP gets Cam and Lucia’s old room.  MP gives her grammy a hug of thanks for letting her return.

JJ pays a visit to David now and asks if he thinks Esther will ever return to him.  He says he doubts it.  JJ brings up the ranch and says he can’t manage it now, so since he did a decent job before, would he do it again?  Since he’s planning on marrying Berenice, the two of them could live at the house with him, then.  David at first says Bernie wouldn’t go for it probably.  JJ says a word to the wise, don’t believe everything that gal tells him.  David replies with the truth then: it’s him that really doesn’t want to live there with him!  Riiiiiight.  JJ hobbles out.

MP has a chat with Mama.  She complains that Lucia has ended up with everything—her boyfriend, her granny’s love and her son! Lucrazia tells her to calm down and leave that all in the past.  What’s done is done.  The only sane thing is to look ahead and start from scratch.  Maripaz isn’t quite ready to do that yet, though.

Outside, Ivan mentions what happened that morning between Alex and MP.  He says he’s worried now that MP might try doing something to get even because she still blames Lucia for it all.  Lucia says not to worry, then takes a call from Cam asking if Ivan was jealous after seeing him there with her and to find out the latest on her mother’s condition.   When Lucia tries explaining again what the call from Cam was about, Ivan can’t mask his true feelings any longer.  Why does Cam need to keep calling if they’ve really broken it off?  Lucia throws her hands up in the air in frustration and yells back at Van that this is déjà-vu all over again.  She’s been through this once before and isn’t intending to do it again!  She storms off and Ivan’s left with his size 12 foot stuck in his size 12 mouth wondering how he could have been so uncool!

Back inside the house, Lucia now finds Maripaz staring down at Perlita while she sleeps.  Ruh-roh!!  She drags MP off and asks what she’s doing there.  MP mentions how the baby looks so much like Saul.  MP blames Lucia for turning Alex against her.  Lucia says if she’s come back home to steal Ivan away from her again, she can forget it because MP doesn’t interest Ivan in the least.  Hah!  She stopped wanting Ivan the moment she saw how obsessed he was over Lucia.  She sneers at Lucia and says that he’s making do with her, and well, he already knows what he’s missing. Nothing matters except getting Alex to love her now. Lucia says it’s a bit late, wouldn’t she say, to think about that?  Nope!  A person needs affection.  She has her mother’s love tho’ Carly and she are in doubt.     She needs her son to love her and she’s going to succeed in getting him to.  She walks out and leaves Lucia (and Viewerville) mulling over the possible troublesome ways she’ll probably go about it, too.

Carmen has apparently gone to the Meandragon’s looking for Saul only to find out he’s no longer living there.  JJ hears the chatter and has her come into the dining room.  She tells Juan Jeil-me that Lichita “—ah, Alicia!”  is his granddaughter.  JJ softens and has the housekeeper give her a piece of candy in the kitchen.  Meanwhile, Carmen complains that living at home has become Hell.  Aha!  Juan Jeil-me asks if she’d be interested in living there as his DIL and granddaughter.  Just what Carmen was hoping to hear!  She doesn’t have to think twice!

Celia comes back from doing the shopping that evening and notices that Carmen and Lichita are both missing. Celia, unconditionally loving mother that she is, doesn’t feel the same as Viewerville about Carmen’s latest whereabouts. She freaks out and tells Antolin.

Meanwhile, Van visits Cam and they discuss each other’s intentions towards Lucia.  Is Cam going to pursue her still?  Naw, admits Cam, not now, although it was really difficult to give her up.  They had good times together till Van returned to Alamos—but return he did and Cam values their friendship more.  So does Ivan.  (Maybe Bernie has a BFF who needs a buff, blonde beefcake as a bedroom buddy.  Cam deserves to be happy now that he’s done the honorable thing by Lucia and Ivan.)  He asks for Cam to keep his distance now just to be sure.  All of a sudden in races Antolin with the bad news that Carmen’s left and taken Lichita with her to gawdknowswhere!  Neighbors saw the two of them take their suitcases and hop into a taxi.  Sound the alarms!

Caro is pregnant and gives Anto the heads up.  Sound the alarms again!

La Fuerza del Destino #94 Thu 12/15/11 La Fuerza de tough talk and potential repentance.

Ivan drops Lucia off at home after their "wonderful" night together. Lucia praises him for making her feel loved and important. Ivan says he'd be capable of doing the impossible for her. She says he has, what with the sex therapy. They finish smooching their goodbyes.

Lucia runs into Carlota and giddily announces that Ivan's the love of her life. Carlota was surprised to find that when Lucia said "the love of my life" what she really meant was "Grandma, we TOTALLY did it!" Lucia says she's hoping that she can convince her mom to talk to Berenice. She thinks Berenice can bust through her mom's stubbornness. Lucia goes back to waxing rhapsodic about Ivan's attributes. She doesn't seem too optimistic about the long-term effects of his nookie, though, since she tells her grandma that yes, "this time" she was able to overcome her fears.

David is couching it at his place. Mom comes in to find out why he's pouty. She tells him things with him and Berenice will be ok and he's got to buck up because sleeping on that couch is going to suck bad enough without him also having a sucky attitude. She says once the divorce is final and the property is all divvied up, she'll find her own apartment. David is planning to go ask his dad tomorrow for a statement of assets so he can turn it over to Esther's lawyer. Esther doesn't expect him to take it well (puh-leeze, when does JJ take anything well?). She's definitely made up her mind about divorcing him, but that doesn't keep it from hurting, despite David's reassurances that she really did try her best and even gave him another chance. She worries, though, about Judith being stuck in the house with JJ. David tells her she's always worrying about everyone and not to worry about Judith--they'll get her out of the house.

Arcelia asks Camilo what's going to happen to JJ, financially speaking. Camilo doesn't expect him to end up broke, since he'll still have his lands and the money he can get from selling his crops. "But even if that's not enough for him, too bad. What's right is for him to give back the money he took!" Carmen and Lichita both giggle at the idea of the "pomposo" Mr. Mondragon being just as broke as they are. Lichita especially giggles at the sound of the word "pomposo" and announces that she plans to be "pomposa" when she grows up. Like mother, like daughter. Lack of money certainly never kept Carmen from putting on airs! Arcelia sagely points out that in fashion, one day you're in and the next day you're out…digo…in life one day you're up and the next day you're down. JJ's broke now and look at Ivan, who started with nothing and is now a big shot. Camilo gets that old jealous look in his eyes.

JJ remembers telling Ivan when he was younger that he'd end up in jail. He wonders what he's done. Wait, JJ repenting? Say it ain't so!

Ivan drops Alex off at school, verifies that he has his homework…then Alex verifies that Ivan called Carolina to ask if he could visit 2 days a week. Alex is hoping that Antolín might be there too, so they can play soccer or "luchas" (literally, "fights", he probably means "wrestling" as in "lucha libre"). Ivan extracts a promise that Alex will behave himself (when does he not?) while Gordo fusses at Ivan to just leave the damn kid already. Gordo fusses some more because Ivan walks Alex into the building.

Carlota tries to guilt Lucrezia into following through with her treatment, by saying it's not fair to make Lucia worry about her. Berenice walks up, prompting Carlota to announce that they have a visitor. Lucrezia gripes, "We don't have anything. Berenice is coming to see Lucia. No one remembers we exist anymore. We've become nothing [un cero al izquierda, a zero to the left] to our friends." Berenice greets Carlota and Lucrezia and Carlota leaves to bring Berenice a coffee. She sits down and tells Lucrezia that Lucia is worried about her and hasn't Lucia suffered enough? She realizes it's taking Lucrezia some time to accept her situation, but she needs to just say it coldly. "It's dialysis or death, ma'am. There are no other paths. 'But' nothing, ma'am! Death means not seeing your daughters again, not seeing your grandchildren grow up. It's the end of everything. This isn't a game, ma'am!"

Ivan goes over to Carolina and Antolín's. He asks her if she'd be ok with Alex coming to spend 2 afternoons a week with him. Ivan worries that he's spending too much time alone at the house. Carolina is thrilled. Ivan thanks her and says that he knows Alex loves her too. They joke about Caro and Antolín wanting kids and Alex being practice, so they'll know what to expect. Ivan says he's going over to the Curiel's to see how Lucrezia is doing. This is the first Carolina has heard about anything being wrong with her.

Carlota and Lucia wait in the living room, wondering if Berenice has said anything to Lucrezia yet. Lucia has faith in Berenice's confrontational techniques. Berenice comes into the living room and announces that Lucrezia agreed to go to her appointment tomorrow. "But how did you do it?" Lucia wonders. Berenice grins and says she has her secrets. Carlota tells Berenice that she's definitely earned her place in heaven…in many, many years, when it's time.

David and Judith talk about their parents. Judith didn't know her mom had left, since she got home late and tired. David lets her know that Esther is staying in his tiny apartment and that anyplace is better for her than being with JJ.

Cuthberto comes up to Antolín to bring him something to eat. He's grateful to Antolín and Camilo for keeping an eye on JJ. He offers to relieve him, but Antolín turns him down, saying JJ will probably come out any time now. And sure enough, once Cuthberto walks off, JJ leaves the house. Antolín calls Camilo to tell him JJ left the house, but without any suitcases. Camilo tells him to follow him anyway--he could be on his way to the bank to take out all his money before he runs off.

JJ goes out to the cemetery to see Alicia. "I guess you never expected me to come see you, Alicia. I didn't either. Maybe because I always felt that I was better than you. But you see that life has taken care of showing me that's not true. You raised an exemplary son and I have a son that's a good for nothing. And the other two want nothing to do with me. Much less ours, Ivan." Ivan gets on the horn to Camilo to tell him "I bet you can't imagine where Mondragon went." JJ: "Well, anyway, I admit I made a mistake. I shouldn't have looked down on either you or Ivan. I'm sorry and…and I ask for your pardon." He leaves a red rose on Alicia's tomb. Okay, fine, but just because he repents doesn't mean I have to like him.

Gordo complains to Saul (who is busy playing with a puppy that obviously has no sense) that their kidnapping plan won't be easy. It could take weeks to find an opening to snatch the kid. Saul tells him "I told you so!" but Gordo won't be talked out of it. He says they failed last time because they depended on Carmen for information, and it was second- and third-hand at that. Gordo says they've got to get up close and learn all his movements and those of the people close to him. But there's one problem…one of those people close to him is Antolín. Gordo hopes Antolín doesn't catch him in the act. Saul says he can't get close either. "Then we'll need help." Saul complains that this means splitting the ransom three ways. How do they not suffocate from their stupidity sucking all the oxygen out of that damn barn? Even if they did somehow manage to grab Alex, I still put money on the kid outwitting them all by himself. Never has a single one of their stupid plots gone well for them! Have they not wondered if maybe it's them? Gah!

Antolin calls Camilo and tells him that something is going on with JJ and he thinks it has something to do with Ivan.

Carlos flirts with Judith. He tells her to kiss him. Just a little one, though. She complains that they're at work and they're totally gonna get busted! He bats his eyelashes and she relents. And right then JJ walks in. Sorry, Carlos, but that was way too traumatic and you're never getting any office smoochies again! JJ asks if Judith isn't going to introduce him. She does. JJ asks to speak to Ivan. Judith goes to find Ivan's secretary and JJ tells her that tonight, the two of them will need to sit down and have a talk. Aw, crap. If he apologizes for being an ass all her life…well, that would explain the bizarre weather we've been having lately.

JJ goes into Ivan's office. Ivan says he only agreed to see him because it would be rude not to. "What brings you here? I doubt you came to tell me where Saul is." JJ says he would tell him if he knew. Ivan says that Saul is probably hiding like the rat he is. JJ starts to talk about what a stupid thing Saul did, but Ivan asks him why he came there. JJ asks if Ivan has heard about his troubles with the association. Yep, says Ivan, he's heard all about the "desfalco" (embezzlement) and supposes JJ will make like Saul. JJ tells him he has no intention of running, but that's not what he came to talk about (then why bring it up?). He came to propose that Ivan manage his ranch. "Or should I say, yours. Because, like it or not, you're a Mondragon. And that ranch belongs to you too." Ivan's not interested. "Let your legitimate sons manage it. I'm only your bastard. And don't call me 'son'!" JJ says he deserves Ivan's anger, but he's sorry. "Perdoname." Whoa! And there was much amazed cursing in the 5ft household. Mr. 5ft is optimistic, however, that what this really means is that JJ is either going to try to stab Ivan in the back or is about to die. And, sorry, for those who don't know, "Perdoname" is "forgive me." Ivan's response is to stand up, open the office door, and bid JJ a good day. "How can I show you that I'm sorry?" Ivan says there's no need. JJ can carry his repentance around for the rest of his life, although he doesn't think JJ really knows what it means to be repentant. JJ gives the office a last look before walking out. Ivan shuts his laptop and looks like he's trying to figure out what JJ's angle is.

Ivan fills Toni in on the conversation. He thinks JJ is desperate because of what's been going on with the Association. If he's going to live off his land, he needs it to be better managed. Since JJ never treated Ivan's mother or Ivan well, Ivan doesn't have any reason to believe him now. Ivan says it's just too late now and he doesn't buy it. Benito announces Camilo is there. Once Camilo comes in, Ivan asks Benito to go pick up Alex.

Lucia tells Lucrezia that she's glad she agreed to the treatment. "Your friend helped me see that I'm not ready to die." Lucia will take Lucrezia to her treatment tomorrow. "And you'll see that you feel much better." Lucrezia says Lucia's the one that looks better (it's that special after-nookie glow). Lucia just grins. Cleto and Maripaz come in. Maripaz is grumpy about having to be announced like a stranger. Carlota starts to chew her out, but Lucrezia whines at her not to start. Maripaz says she was prepared for it. She asks to come back to the house.

Camilo tells Ivan and Toni that JJ was at the cemetery. He tells them Antolín followed JJ and saw him leave flowers at Alicia's tomb. Toni thinks it must mean something, but Ivan says that JJ feeling repentant doesn't obligate him to forgive. Camilo is surprised to hear that JJ asked for forgiveness. Ivan says it doesn't fix anything--not his mother's hard work, his own need for a father, etc. So he won't forgive him. Toni agrees the damage is done, but he says Ivan is the only one who can erase the damage. "By forgetting and forgiving." Ivan says he can't and he doesn't want to talk about it anymore. He leaves the office. Camilo understands. He wonders what JJ is after. "To have Ivan fill the holes his other sons have left? If he wants to ingratiate himself with Ivan, he's going to have to offer more than an apology." Toni asks what Camilo will have to do to make up for what he did to his friend--setting his sights on the woman Ivan loved.

Maripaz says she hasn't forgotten what she did. She accepts that she behaved badly. She tells Lucia that it's over with her and Camilo. Lucrezia doesn't want them to fight. Maripaz just wants to come back home. She says she needs her family. "Why? Because we're the only ones who put up with you? Everyone's already gotten tired of you?" Carlota hit the nail right on the head. Maripaz admits that Carlota is right. Everyone has turned their backs on her. "You can't go around hurting and disappointing people! You have to understand that no one here trusts you. You've blackmailed your mother; you've done horrible things to Lucia; and you've even stolen from me!" Maripaz swears she won't do it again. Carlota tells her that putting on an innocent face and crying a few tears isn't going to be enough. Lucrezia begs for another chance for Maipaz. Carlota says she'll give her another chance when she's earned one. "We've turned a blind eye to all your bad behavior, but not anymore." Maripaz says fine, thanks, and walks out. Lucrezia whines about Maripaz needing her family. "If she needs us, she'll come back. But with proof that she's changed, not tears."

Maripaz runs out to her car and cries that she doesn't want to end up alone. She drives off.

Ivan remembers JJ meeting him and being a dick. Alex comes in. He wants Ivan to have Lucia come there so he can surprise her with a drawing. Alex makes fun of Ivan calling Lucia "mi amor." Lucia happily tells him that Lucrezia has agreed to going to dialysis. Ivan tells her that someone she knows has invited her to come over to see a surprise. Lucia guesses that it's Alex. Ivan offers to send Benito to pick her up and says she can drive herself back in the other car. Lucia fusses about the car again. Ivan repeats his offer that she just borrow the car until she buys herself a new one. She agrees to the loan. Alex makes fun of him again for calling her "mi amor." Ivan tells Alex he's going to get jealous, "What's this about you giving MY girlfriend a present?" Alex warns him that if he doesn't watch out, he'll steal her away. That would be funnier if this weren't a telenovela, and if there weren't some precedent for tialoving.

Antolín tells Camilo he has nothing to report. JJ went back to the house and the accountant came over. Antolín supposes that if JJ were going to make a run for it, he would have done it already. Camilo agrees and tells him to go home. Antolín is glad, since he was starting to get tired of surveillance work, but says it was just part of his job. Camilo tells him to come by the office tomorrow for a reward. JJ will be paying off his debt tomorrow.

JJ tells the accountant that Ivan won't manage his ranch and since David hates him, he's not going to ask him to do it. The accountant tells him that after tomorrow, his situation's going to get a lot worse. JJ's going to have to fire all his servants, and the accountant. The accountant gives him one last piece of advice…"You still have time to run off with the money. You don't have to give it to the Association. Go. Nothing ties you to Alamos anymore. Your wife and kids left you. I'll buy your lands. You can say I sold them to you a long time ago. Listen to me, Juan Jaime…go before you end up in ruins!" JJ looks like he's considering it.

Ivan and Alex wait outside for Lucia. Alex shows her his drawing. They're all unpleasantly surprised to see Maripaz come sashaying up. She's come to see Alex and reminds them she has a right. Alex asks Lucia to get rid of her. Maripaz asks Alex not to be afraid. She tells him she's changed and she wants to be good to him. She says she knows she treated him badly in the past and she's really sorry. Ivan pulls her aside to ask what this is about. Maripaz says it's not fair for Ivan to have Alex all to himself and she wants a chance to win his affections. Ivan reminds her she's never been interested in Alex before. "Well, I am now. I feel really lonely, Ivan." Lucia reassures Alex that everything will be ok. She reminds him that Maripaz can't take him away again because of the judge's order that he live with his dad. Alex tells her that Maripaz wanted to kill Bruno and that she was really mean to him. Maripaz reminds Ivan that she does have a right and he can't deny her visitation or she'll go complain to the judge. Maripaz reassures him that she has no intentions of hurting him, she just wants a chance to win him over. Ivan doesn't believe it. She asks for a chance. Maripaz goes over to Alex and tells him he doesn't have to be afraid of her. Lucia tells her to give it a rest already. Maripaz tells Alex that little by little, he'll realize it's the truth. She gives him a kiss and says she'll come by tomorrow so they can spend some time together. Alex begs Ivan not to let her come back.

JJ sips his tequila, remembering what the accountant said. He says out loud that he's not a coward. The maid comes running, thinking he called her. JJ just wants to be left alone.

Alex whines about having to obey the judge, since he doesn't know Maripaz is bad! Ivan tells him that if they don't follow the judge's orders he's the one who's going to get punished. Lucia reminds him that the judge also said that Maripaz can't be alone with him, so she won't be able to do anything bad to him or to Bruno. Alex wonders why they want him to spend time with Maripaz if she doesn't love him. Ivan says it could be true that Maripaz has changed. Alex says maybe it's a lie and she's just waiting for them to let their guard down so she can take him away. Ivan tells him that won't happen, but Alex is just too scared of Maripaz. Lucia asks to speak to Alex alone. She reminds him that he used to be afraid of Ivan. "Because my aunt Carolina said he was bad." Lucia tells him that when you get to know people, you realize that sometimes they're better than you thought. Alex reminds her that he lived with her, so he knows what she's like. Lucia tells him sometimes people change. "And if she hasn't changed, then we'll see what we have to do to get the judge to change his decision." Alex agrees, under duress.

Maripaz goes shopping for presents for Alex. She buys him a toy car, some clothes, and a giant happy face balloon.

Lucia tells Ivan that Alex read her a little of his pirate book, and it seems like he's forgotten about Maripaz for now. Lucia would like to be there when Maripaz spends time with him, but she has to take Lucrezia to dialysis. Ivan says he'll be there and tells her not to worry. Lucia is worried this is a ploy and Maripaz is trying to get in good with Ivan again. She doesn't trust Maripaz, but Ivan doesn't trust her either. Lucia tells him that Maripaz even went over to the house to beg to move back in. He wonders if she really is changing. He gives Lucia the keys to the car she's borrowing. Smoochies.

Lucrezia is moping around in the front yard by the fountain. She begs Carlota that if the treatment doesn't work and her life is in danger, she'll let Maripaz move back into the house. Carlota agrees, but she's sure Lucrezia will get better. "I hope your daughter really has mended her ways, if that does happen." Lucia comes up in her new, uh, borrowed car. Lucrezia tells Lucia that she's feeling weak and depressed.

Toni doesn't trust Maripaz either, but he does think it's time for Alex not to be afraid of her anymore. Ivan lets Toni know that Lucrezia is sick.

Carlota talks to the painting of Teodoro. Cleto announces Toni. She's glad to see him. They decide to have a tequila together, but not in celebration…to fortify themselves. Toni wants her to be optimistic.

JJ hides his tequila under the table when he hears Judith coming home. He tells her that his mother filed for divorce, her brothers, well, she knows, and he supposes her boyfriend told her what was going on at the Association. Judith sits down and JJ tells her he's glad she has a boyfriend. All Judith tells him is that he's an engineer who works for the McGuires. "And when are you getting married?" She says they haven't been together for long. JJ says he's been thinking that after they get married, they should live in the house instead of spending money on an apartment. "That way we can keep each other company." Judith looks horrified at the thought.

Antolín and Carolina are in bed and Carolina is whining that she should be pregnant already. Antolín reminds her that the gyno told her to be patient. "But you want a kid!" "Well, so do you! But the doctor said, if you keep being anxious about it, it's not going to happen." Caro is worried that Antolín will be disappointed in her. Antolín reminds her that he married her because he loved her and not so she could be a baby factory! Caro whines some more about wanting to have a baby to fill the void Alex left. Antolín doesn't want this to turn into an obsession. More lovey-dovey talk. If they'll accept a consejo from Dr. 5ft (I'm not a doctor, nor have I played one on TV…yet…it could happen) I think I've identified the problem. Too much talking in bed and not enough nookie!

Toni and Carlota sip their tequilas. He reminds her that they're friends, and she should have picked up the phone to tell him what was going on. He says that Alex and Ivan have their own lives and sometimes he feels alone. He'd like a friend to talk to as well, and Carlota is the ideal one for him. She complains about not wanting to be a bother, but he says that there's a lot of affection between them. They drink to that. He says they've got to stick together and they toast to their friendship.

Gordo watches Alex some more and complains that the kid is never alone.

Lucia and Carlota bring Lucrezia to her first dialysis session. Carlota tries for a pep talk in the lobby.

JJ brings Camilo a certified check and Camilo gives him a receipt. JJ tries to whine about being broke, but Camilo's not buying it. "I'm getting divorced. I'm going to have to give my wife half of what's left." "I'm sorry about that." "No. You don't feel anything. And I don't even have anyone to manage the ranch. Saul's always been a good for nothing, and besides he's off hiding. Didn't Ivan tell you why? Aren't you guys best buds? About a year ago Saul raped Lucia. Her daughter is Saul's." "Are you sure?" "Saul confessed it to me himself." "Why are you just now tell me?" "I just found out. Saul ran away. Go on, then, gloat about how far I've fallen….Your friend Ivan has gotten his revenge." JJ leaves and Camilo picks up the phone. Camilo calls the Curiel house and finds out from Gloria that Lucrezia is sick and Lucia took her to the hospital.

Benito drives Alex to Carolina's house, where he waits for him outside. Gordo takes heart, thinking he's found his opportunity.

Lucia and Carlota wait for Lucrezia. Lucia notices she has a missed call from Camilo. Her phone rings again, but this time it's Ivan. She turns down his offer of company at the hospital, but makes a date for later.

Toni figures Lucrezia will be fine since she's such a tough lady. He wonders if a kidney transplant would be better and asks Ivan how you go about getting a kidney…can you buy one? Ivan says that's illegal. It has to come from a donor or a family member. Toni's never been fond of Lucrezia, but he doesn't like seeing Carlota's suffering. "Are you in love with her?" Toni says Ivan is too young to understand what he feels for Carlota.

And tomorrow: Camilo visits Lucia and Ivan gets jealous. Stupid boys! And we're heading for the Gran Final on the 26th.

La Fuerza del Destino #93 Wed 12/14/11 As several Alamos residents lose their minds we prepare for an Anvil Chorus

RECAP BY URBAN ANTHROPOLOGIST

There are numerous missing phrases here. Please provide any missing details. Gracias.

Antes

Maripaz laments her loneliness when she has only herself to blame. Too bad, so sad.

Nuevo

Hacienda Curiel: Lucia and Ivan talk about her feelings. She tells him she feels dirty.

David's Office: Esther and David talk about the association, then she tells him she will be filing for divorce.

Ag Ass Office: The other ranchers are pressuring JJ to pay back the money. He tries to say someone else did it but nobody is buying that; however it happened he is responsible. Cutberto – the guy whose crop was torched – says something about putting JJ in jail. We're talking about 40 million pesos ($2.9 million US).

David's Office: David gets a lawyer for his mother, who isn't turning back this time. She explains that Saul told JJ that he raped Lucia but that he told her that Lucia consented to sex. David asks if she believes that; she tells him that she doesn't know what to believe. And that Saul called her looking for money. He didn't tell her where he's hiding out but wants her to meet him in Hermosillo in front of the cathedral. [Of all the nerve] It's just this once. David is not pleased with this.

Ag Ass Office: JJ has a week to pay back the money.

Hacienda Curiel: ¡Por dios! Lucrazia still doesn't get it.

Lucrazia: I had hoped that Ivan would liven you up but from what I've seen he hasn't succeeded.
Lucia: Mama, don't ask me to 'liven up' after I've told you what happened. I want to denounce Saul.
Lucrazia: You don't know what you're saying, daughter. An accusation like this will be a scandal.
Lucia: I know, Mother, but –
Lucrazia: What will people say when they find out you were raped? Besides, nobody will believe you. They will think you provoked him. That's what always happens in these cases. Do you really think Saul will confess?
Lucia: The police will interrogate him and he will contradict himself.
Lucrazia: It's very difficult to prove a rape. I don't agree to let you to put the family in everyone's mouth. Por, favor, think about it. They have enough to talk about. When I was married to your father I was faithful. And ten years after the divorce I haven't been with anyone. Not that I didn't have the chance. I did it to keep our name pure for you. If you do what you're thinking of doing, where does that leave Perlita? A dirty origin, something shameful. Think about it, daughter, please. Think about it.

She kisses Lucia's forehead and exits. Santa Lucia looks like she's waffling again.

Camilo's Office: Antolin congratulates Camilo for forcing the issue of the money. Antolin and Camilo discuss how the one-week deadline could allow JJ to escape because of any money he might have out of the country and how Saul has dropped off the face of the earth. Since they can't risk JJ getting away Antolin plans to keep Casa Mondragon under surveillance.

Commercial Break that leads with a promo for La Que No Podia Amar.

Outside Casa Mondragon: Antolin explains this plan to Carolina over the phone. She's not happy about this. She warns him to be careful. Finally after ending the call she checks a pregnancy test, which is negative. Again. She worries that she won't be able to have children. [Por dios, why such a hurry? In your place I would enjoy all the amor caliente this guy's got.]

Hacienda Curiel: Carlota and Lucia talk about the conversation with Lucrazia.

Carlota: Your mother told me everything. You must feel terrible.
Lucia: I feel without courage. I also feel hate, indignation.
Carlota: Of course. It's understandable.
Lucia: Now I'm sad because none of this is fair. Not for me, or Ivan, or most of all for Perlita.
Carlota: Life isn't always fair, mi amor. What are you thinking to do? Denounce Saul and seek out his punishment?
Lucia: Ivan will help me whatever I decide. But how can I prove that Saul raped me?
Carlota: Confront him. Face to face and let him try to deny it.
Lucia: Saul is a cinico. I'll appear to be one, too. Besides, he's hiding.
Carlota: So look for him. There are tests that can show whether he's lying or not. Make him submit to one of those.
Lucia: Mother said something I agree with. What will happen to Perlita? Because things like this can't be hidden. Sooner or later she will know she was the product of a rape. That her father is a delinquent.
Carlota: That's true.
Lucia: I can teach her what's important in life, but when she goes to school and some little friend tells her the truth... it's difficult, especially in a town like this.

Casa McGuire: Tony and Ivan talk about this.

Tony: Had you thought about this?
Ivan: No, not really.
Tony: Do you love this baby girl?
Ivan: Of course I do. It doesn't matter who her sperm donor is; she's an innocent baby. She is Lucia's child and never will I make distinction between her, Alex, and any other child we will have together.
Tony: Therefore, why are you looking to judge?
Ivan: Because it isn't fair for Saul to get off without being punished for this crime.
Tony: What weighs more in the balance? Punishment for Saul or the happiness of this baby?
Ivan: Oh, no, no. You're talking like Carlota or Lucrezia. Hiding everything they want to.
Tony: Don't try to judge innocent people. I told you my wife cheated on me. I never told my son because of how it could have affected him.
Ivan: OK. You hid the dirty laundry of your house.
Tony: Well, yes. It's a good saying, and very wise. But if you and Lucia decide this, [????] Time will pass, her fears will go away, and she will be back with you as though nothing had happened.
Ivan (looks at his cell phone, which is ringing): It's David.
Tony: See what he wants.
Ivan (answering): Si, David; what's up?
David (driving): I called to tell you that I know what my brother did.
Ivan (holding back an outburst): There is no way that coward can pay for his filthy deeds. [porquerias]
David: I'm calling to tell you I won't be in the office this morning. I'm going after my brother to make him turn himself in.
Ivan: What are you saying? You know where he is?
David: It's all I can tell you for now. But don't worry; trust me. I'll call when I have more news. (ends the call)
Ivan: David? David?
Tony: What happened?
Ivan: David knows where Saul is. I'm sure he knows but I don't want him making decisions without consulting me. (makes a call)

Berenice's Apt: Her phone is ringing.

Berenice: Bueno?
Ivan: Hola, Berenice. It's Ivan.
Berenice: Oy, Ivan.
Ivan: I'm calling to find out if David told you where he was going this morning.
Berenice: [???] I tried calling once and it was busy and the second time he didn't answer. What's going on?
Ivan: It;s fair that I try to find out about matters between brothers [?]

Ivan is annoyed and probably should be.

Antolin sits in his car in front of Casa Mondragon. If he's going to be a private eye he really needs a care that's more discreet than a red convertible.

Casa Mondragon, study: JJ and Licenciado Gomez talk. They have bank records in hand that show that someone withdrew a substantial sum. He tells JJ that the only other person with signing power over that account is Esther. JJ reminds him that he shares the guilt in this mess with the ag ass and will have to pay. JJ isn't up to this and tells him they'll talk later. Gomez gets up and leaves. JJ yells for Esther. He asks about the withdrawals, including the one from today. She tells him she took out the money to pay for Saul's operation.

JJ is not pleased.

Berenice's Apt: She's worried about where he is. She calls but he doesn't answer as he heads toward Hermosillo.

Hacienda Curiel: Berenice and the Curiel women (menos the Merry Piece) sit around the dining room table.

Berenice: He didn't answer. I hoped he would tell me where he was going.
Lucia: He didn't say anything to me. It's been a while since I've talked to David.
Carlota: He called Ivan to tell him he wasn't going to let Saul get away without getting punished.
Berenice: Yes, yes. Something else happened this morning but I don't know what.
Lucrazia: Are you saying he's thinking of turning him over to the authorities?
Carlota: I don't doubt it. David was always more conciente than Saul.
Lucrazia: That's his own brother, Mama. How could he do that? And where does that leave us?
Carlota: This is about the man who raped your daughter, por dios! (Takes Lucia's hand)
Lucia: I'm not taking Saul's side; I'm thinking of us, especially the baby. Can you imagine your great-granddaughter knowing she is the product of a rape?
Berenice: But if you don't denounce Saul and he doesn't get the punishment he deserves he will go on with impunity. And that is not fair.
Lucrazia: I know it's not fair, you are absolutely right, but Saul will say anything. Like Lucia surrendered herself to him. And who was there to prove it wasn't so? You?
Berenice: Lucia is incapable of that
Lucrazia: We know that because we know her. Do you think the judge and the others will think the same?
Berenice: But she was drugged.
Lucrazia: And do you think that after more than a year we can prove she had been drugged?
Lucia: Mama, por favor!

Casa McGuire, Office:

Zavaleta: I understand your indignation, Ivan, but much time has passed. Although we can get a DNA test to prove the baby is the child of Saul Mondragon there is nothing to prove whether the act was consensual or not. It will be his word against hers.
Ivan: And therefore, this infeliz will get away with it.
Zavaleta: Not if he confesses, but I doubt he will. I know you won't like what I'm going to say, but as your lawyer I have to tell you how it will play. The daughters of Señora Curiel don't have good reputations. The older … we know her character and personality. You had a child, got married, then got divorced.
Ivan: Where are you going with this?
Zavaleta: Señora Lucia married Señor Galvan, and divorced him when you came back.
Tony:
Ivan: Ya, Licenciado, ya.
Zavaleta: Permit me. You renewed your relationship and everyone knows. Her baby is the child of Saul Mondragon whether by rape or not.
Tony: Son, listen. The lawyer is right. I know you're angry but it's better not to let it out. [moverle]
Ivan: No, this can't be.

Casa Mondragon: JJ and Esther argue about the money she took out of the bank. JJ accuses her of having tantrums and she tells him off. Big. She is leaving him. He calls her crazy and she says she was only crazy when she thought he could change. More insulting crap from him. She knows he feels nothing for her. She finally tells him she's leaving in the morning and exits. Like a typical spoiled brat he shoves all the papers off the table.

Commercial Break that leads with a promo for ¡Feliz 2012!.

Dr Fuentes' Office, the next day: Carlota and Lucrazia get the news that Lucrazia is headed for kidney failure. She asks whether she could die and he tells her not to think of that, but of the solution. Carlota takes her daughter's hand.

Hermosillo: Saul waits impatiently for Esther, but it's David who arrives.

Dr Fuentes' Office: The good doctor explains that Lucrazia will need dialysis three times a week and she may need a transplant. He gets up to check whether they can give her her first appointment the day after tomorrow. Lucrazia is good and scared.

Hermosillo:

David: No, Saul, mother didn't tell me to set a trap for you.
Saul: Therefore, what the devil are you doing here? Who told you?
David: She told me, but I'm here to see you.
Saul: Why? To betray me? Surely you called the police to arrest me.
David: No, Saul. You're my brother and for all you've done I'm here to give you the chance to give yourself up (entreges). It's your only chance, Saul.
Saul: You are still (nuts?) That's what it looks like.
David: It's for your own good, Saul [Something about his sins was blipped out] Act like a man.
Saul: You're not enough to be my brother.
David: Then what? Are you thinking about hiding for the rest of your life? What about your conscience?
Saul: Conscience? Don't you know me? Get out of here! Leave me alone!
David: You leave me no choice but to take you to the police. (grabs his arm. Esther enters)
Saul (getting free): Look. (both look at Esther)
Esther: David, why are you here?

Saul steals his mother's handbag, runs, and jumps into a cab. It pulls away just as David reaches the door. David makes a gesture of frustration.

Outside Casa Mondragon: Camilo calls Antolin, who reports that Esther left the house with a suitcase early that morning. He makes a comment on how little by little JJ is more alone and how Esther must have realized what kind of a rat she lived with all those years.

Casa Mondragon: The maid informs JJ that his wife left with a suitcase. David isn't in and Judith left for work early. He comments about he will enjoy the peace and quiet of the house now that he's finally alone. He sips his coffee, nearly spits it out, and calls the maid to bring him tequila. She tells him there isn't any; la Señora got rid of it. JJ looks frustrated.

Casa McGuire, office area: Lucia tells Ivan she decided not to denounce Saul. She explains about Perlita and he doesn't argue with her. He will give Perlita his name and she will never have to be ashamed. Lucia is still angry that Saul will get away with this, but Ivan tells her that sooner or later he will pay for his sins.

Hermosillo: Esther tells David she had brought money for Saul (Ay, dios mio!) and now they don't expect to see him again (Yeah, right.). David offers to take her back to his place, but the cab is waiting for her to go to a hotel.

How is she going to pay without the purse Saul just stole? Enquiring minds want to know.

Commercial Break

Casa McGuire: Ivan gets a call from David about Saul's escape. He explains that Lucia wasn't going to press charges, so let's leave it at this. We see the anvil being hoisted. Lucia gets the call from Carlota that Lucrazia is sick and she's to come home immediately. She and Ivan exit.

Hacienda Curiel: Lucrazia is living up to our nick, but Carlota may be following her.

Lucrazia screams and breaks things.

Carlota: Daughter, what's wrong?
Lucrazia: Leave me alone! I need to [???]
Carlota: Not like this.
Lucrazia: Then how? Don't you see that I'm desperate? Do you know that this signifies I'm on the brink of death? That I'll have to submit myself to a horrible treatment for the rest of my life?
Carlota: Por favor, Lucrezia; many people live that way.
Lucrazia: Not living; surviving. I'd rather die. [???]
Carlota: Enough, Lucrezia. It's true. I'm sorry this happened, but you have to stop feeling sorry for yourself.
Lucrazia: You don't understand.
Carlota: Of course I understand; you are flesh of my flesh. What happens to you affects me very much.
Lucrazia (crying): Thanks, Mother, but in this moment I feel so alone.
Carlota: You aren't alone. I'm with you. And you have your daughters. Who might donate a kidney. I can't because I'm old But your daughters are young and healthy. You don't have to worry.
Lucrazia: Perhaps at times I've been unfair to Lucia. [Dios mio, is that ever an understatement] How could I face her to ask for a kidney?
Carlota: Por dios, Lucia isn't resentful. [rencorosa] [Something about the thousand loves in her heart and lack of rancor]
Lucrazia: Maybe, but if we're not compatible...
Carlota: There is Maripaz.
Lucrazia: Por favor, Mama! Do you really think Maripaz would do that for me? I don't know about that.

Of course that was sarcastic, but we spot another anvil. Lucia gets home.

Carlota: Thank God you're home.
Lucia: How is mother? What happened?
Carlota: It's very serious. Her kidneys aren't working well. She is in danger of dying if she doesn't get the necessary treatment.
Lucia: You know what treatment she needs?
Carlota: Yes, but she doesn't want to go. She'd rather die than submit to dialysis. I don't know how to reason with her. Help me!
Lucia: Yes, I will. (goes into Lucrazia's bedroom)

Lucia: Mama, it's me.
Lucrazia: What do you want?
Lucia: Only to see you, to see how you are.
Lucrazia: Didn't your grandmother tell you I'm dying?
Lucia: Por favor, you're not dying. (takes her hand) The treatment can help you live for many years.
Lucrazia: Does it look good to live connected to a blood filter?
Lucia: Don't think that way Look at it as [???]
Lucrazia: I don't know how to be that optimistic.
Lucia: Grandma says you won't go for the dialysis.
Lucrazia: Why? I don't want to.
Lucia: Por favor, Mother, you have to. I don't want to lose you.
Lucrazia: I am not a good mother, Lucia. You have suffered and it's my fault. And look at your sister; I didn't supervise her. Everything I wanted for you two failed.
Lucia: Because I love you and it doesn't matter that you're not perfect, Mother. It's me, Mother. Tell me you get it.

Lucrazia continues to cry as Lucia goes out to the sitting room.

Carlota: What happened? What did she say? Will she accept the treatment?
Lucia: No, she doesn't want to.
Carlota: We need to find a way to convince her.
Lucia: Not for the moment. The news took her by surprise. The negative attitude will take time.
Carlota: But the disease won't wait that long.
Lucia: I know.

They clasp hands.

The barn just outside Hermosillo: Saul counts what's in Esther's purse as El Gordo arrives. El Gordo is angry because thanks to Antolin (or so he thinks) he is a suspect in Gerry's murder. The two argue briefly and finally agree to go through with their plan to kidnap Alex and demand a ransom large enough for them to leave the country.

Casa McGuire: Ivan and Alex find Tony asleep in his study. They talk about Alex being alone in the afternoons and that he'll ask if he can spend two afternoons a week with Carolina. This anvil is now in place.

Commercial Break that leads with a promo for La Rosa de Guadalupe, The Columbine Episode. and La Que No Podia Amar.

Casa McGuire, study: Lucia calls Ivan to tell him about Lucrazia's illness and to tell him she's going to Berenice's to get her to help.

Berenice's Apt: David arrives and Berenice doesn't let him in. She tells him to leave. She is angry with him because he didn't trust her to know that he went looking for Saul. At the next knock it's Lucia. She lets her in.

Casa Mondragon: JJ's lawyer informs him that he is in debt and that after the divorce his assets will be less than half of what he currently has. He's going to need help. JJ actually has the gall to think that Ivan will bail him out of this. What hubris.

Berenice's Apt: Berenice agrees to visit Lucrazia the next day. Ivan arrives to pick Lucia up. She mentions the possibility of a transplant. She tells him that best compatibility is between relatives.* Finally she tells him she just wants to forget everything and asks that they make love. They kiss and we get flashbacks to many of their previous lovemaking scenes. They're still in Berenice's apartment.

*That's another anvil.

Avances:

Confrontation between Ivan and JJ, and it looks like El Gordo is using Maripaz in his scheme.

Vocabulary:

cynico cynic
mover to move or let go
porqueria dirty or disgusting thing
