La Que No Podía Amar #81 Wendesday 4/18/12 He’s BAA-AAACK! The Clenbuterol-contaminated Cowpie Hits the Fan!

by Audrey (posted by Elvira, a few screencaps added by Elvira)

Lo del pasado:

In Ana Paula’s bedroom, AP is confined to the bed. It’s time for Rogelio’s operation, and María, Margarito and Dani keep vigil with Ana Paula, praying for the safety of Rogelio’s operation.

Later, Cinthia makes a visit to AP’s bedside. They worry over Rogelio’s operation. Cinthia wants to know if AP really loves Rogelio. If so, she is willing to help Rogelio accept AP with her baby in exchange for AP helping her marry Gustavo. Cinthia tells her she doesn’t need to give her answer right away, but think about it. AP looks like she’s about to hurl.

Lo de nuevo:

Gustavo comes into the room, interrupting the tense moment. Cinthia makes a show of look how she is starting to “get along” much better with her cuñada. AP looks even more horrified. Gus asks Cinthia for news about Rogelio. Cinthia is going to call Ernesto again. AP begs to be advised of any news.

After Cinthia leaves, Gus is very pleased to tell Ana Paula that her brother Miguel now has a carpenter job with a friend of Mercedes — he introduced them. This makes AP feel much better. He’s really excited because he’s brought Ana Paula a gift - a book about the stages of pregnancy that they can read together. Ana Paula gifts him with a pleased smile.

María is polishing a silver bowl in the main salon and then drops the bowl in the fright of her life: “Rogelio!” Rogelio is sitting there in his wheelchair. He has a cold, hard look on his face. He left trusting that María would let him know of anything that happens at the hacienda. Why didn’t she tell him that AP was ill? María protests that they didn’t want to worry him since his operation was so delicate and important. Rogelio reminds her that AP is the most important thing to him!

Back in AP’s bedroom, Gus is still gushing all over Ana Paula in his excitement about her having his baby. Gus goes on and on - he’s so in love and excited. AP smiles at him indulgently.

Meanwhile, in the salon, María tries to stop Rogelio from rolling off to see the Mrs, she wants to “explain things”. Rogelio is having none of that. Margarito comes in wearing blue plaid pajamas. He is delighted to see “el patron” and runs to him to give him a hug. Rogelio is delighted to see Margarito up walking. “But what about you?” wonders Margarito. Rogelio tells him his operation will wait, he’s ready to see his wife now. Margarito now tries to stop Rogelio. “Let me pass, chamaco! You look good in blue hahahah.” and Rogelio rolls out of the room.

Ana Paula and Gus are enjoying the book together. She shows him a picture of what the baby should look like right now. Cinthia comes back in, she wasn’t able to reach Ernesto. Ana Paula is very anxious that they get news about Rogelio’s operation immediately. They go off to find Mercedes new number, leaving the doors open. Ana Paula hugs the pregnancy book and prays that Rogelio is OK.

María and Margarito are still in the salon, freaking out together. Margarito wonders if el patron already knows that Ana Paula is going to have Gus’s baby? “No - he just knows that she’s ill!” Margarito wants to warn Gus, but no, Maria doesn’t want Gus talking to Rogelio. María is in total helpless freak-out because there really is little opportunity for damage control at this point!

Chio and Mercedes at the Hernández (that’s Ulises & Macaria) Eatery talking about Mercedes' plans: the lovely house she and Ernesto are setting up in San Gabriel, blah, blah, blah. Chio offers to help decorate now that they are friends again. Mercedes gets a phone call from Ernesto - Rogelio has gone AWOL!

AP is sitting quietly in bed reading her book. Rogelio rolls up to the door smiling. He pauses, waiting for AP to sense his presence. She does. “What are you doing here? What about your operation?”. He rolls up to the bedside. “I found out you were ill and couldn’t even leave the bed. I’m here to be with you.” he answers, kissing her hand. AP starts to get upset. Rogelio asks AP: “What’s wrong? What (kind of illness) do you have?” Ominous music!!!

Back at the eatery, Mercedes has quickly surmised that Rogelio found out something about AP’s illness or pregnancy and leaves the building in a panic. She explains to the pursuing Chio that Rogelio didn’t have the operation. When Ernesto arrived at the clinic, he was told that Rogelio had suddenly left to attend to an emergency. She had got to warn her baby brother ASAP!

Rogelio is still at Ana Paula’s bedside, trying to get her to answer what is wrong. “Did you have another nervous breakdown? I was so worried. And why wasn’t I informed?” Maria appears - trying figure out some way to prevent the inevitable disaster. “We didn’t want to worry you before your operation.” explains AP. “That’s right,” says Maria, “and before Ana Paula was in bed, she was taking care of hacienda matters.” Rogelio is gratified. Ana Paula explains she did it because she’s come to love his lands. “And me?” asks Rogelio, “have you learned to love me?” Ana Paula looks up at María helplessly. Rogelio insists that María leave them alone. Rogelio gazes lovingly at his wife, who is now looking away uncomfortably.

Cinthia is in the salon ranting to Gustavo. Cinthia is worried about Rogelio and she can’t believe he didn’t at least take Hugo with them so that they could maintain contact. Now that she’s “in charge” and there are so many problems at the hacienda, she need to be in contact with her brother! Cinthia is freaking out about all the things going wrong at the hacienda and how she will be blamed. Vanessa has chosen other cattle suppliers for her packing house, and Vanessa’s family’s company has always bought their cattle from the Monteros ever since Cinthia was an child! And now they lose their most important client on her watch! Gustavo thinks she should be able to work things out with Vanessa, but Cinthia tells him that Vanessa doesn’t want to help her out, and when Rogelio finds out, he’s going to be furious with her! Gustavo comforts her.

“You love these lands?” Rogelio is asking Ana Paula at her bedside, “and me? You gave me a hope!” Rogelio pauses and smiles at her. “My love, listen. Could it be there is something deeper between us than a contract?” AP can only look miserably silent and starts crying. “I can’t Rogelio” says AP. Rogelio doesn’t get it. “You have to understand,” says Paula between her tears, “that when I escaped from here, I was with my then boyfriend, and I’m pregnant!” Cara de impactado from Rogelio. “You’re what?” “I’m expecting a baby.” answers Paula. “A baby? From your boyfriend?!!!”

Miguel and Dany are walking up into the haciendas veranda, waxing poetic about all the possible futures of his new furniture business. Tia Rosaura comes along, poo-pooing things, not wanting to lend much of “her” money as it needs to be saved carefully in case they are kicked out of the hacienda. Miguel reminds her that that money belongs to Ana Paula, and anyway, he’s determined not to live off Rogelio anymore. He now has a business opportunity with a friend of Gustavo. Now Tía is all impressed that he really is changing. “Yeah, no thanks to YOU!” says Miguel ironically.

María comes out running in a panic. She doesn’t know what’s going to happen or what to do! Rogelio is already here, and he’s with AP now! Caras de impactado! María doesn’t know who told Rogelio that Ana Paula was sick - which is why he returned. Tía says “Oh no! We have to hide her pregnancy from Rogelio!” Miguel points out what a futile effort that will be (we can’t cover the sun with a finger), he’ll find out eventually. “Well, we’ve got to go and interrupt them before Ana Paula tells him anything! He’ll go crazy!” panics María, and the four hapless messcateers rush off towards Ana Paula’s bedroom to prevent a tragedy. Margarito, who has been miserably hiding behind the furniture through this whole conversation, covers his head with his arms in despair, feeling very guilty about the horrible situation that he unintentionally provoked.

Back in Ana Paula’s bedroom, the ominous music is coming to a crescendo: “Of course! Of course you’re going to have a nervous breakdown if you are married to one man and pregnant by another!” Rogelio realizes bitterly. Ana Paula reminds Rogelio how things really were back then. That she was only with him because of the contract, and that when she ran away, she thought he had ordered her boyfriend killed. “Well, I’m glad you realized I didn’t send someone to kill him, but I never imagined you would go sleep with him! Why?” begs Rogelio in anguish.

Rogelio reacting to Ana Paula's news.

“You have to understand that my circumstances with you were different back then.” begs Ana Paula, “That what I felt for you then is different than I feel now.” “And what do you feel now?” asks Rogelio sneering at her. “Pity? affection? or love?” “I’m very confused” AP tells him. “So I imagine.” Rogelio answers skeptically. “I came to care for you, I swear it!” cries AP. “And when did you realize that you cared for me,” asks Rogelio, “when you discovered you were pregnant?” “No, Rogelio, don’t think that about me!” implores Ana Paula

Ana Paula is in tears over Rogelio's reaction. . .

. . . and Rogelio has tears of his own.

Rogelio doesn’t believe her. He concludes that she now says she cares for him because her boyfriend didn’t accept responsibility for the “chamaco”. And now she needs him to take care of not only her brother, her aunt but this new baby too. Ana Paula is devastated that he sees things this way - “it’s not true! If you think that you don’t know me at all!” Rogelio is furious and yells at her for not even have complied with the darned contract! AP tearfully admits she hasn’t and that she did indeed marry him to help her brother. Rogelio says he doesn’t really give a damn about that contract. But it hurts him so much that she has been making a fool of him all this time. How she must have laughed every time he made a romantic effort. And in the meantime she was enjoying nights of passion with that imbecil! He thought the accident that caused his paralysis was bad, but now he met her, came to love her, and this is worse, because she is killing him! AP can only weep and repeat “Don’t tell me that.” over and over. “Why did you make we want to change, Paula? Why did you make me believe I could fall in love and be happy again?” asks Rogelio. “Forgive me! I didn’t want to hurt you. I do care for you Rogelio Ana Paula cries. I only wanted.....” Rogelio interrupts bitterly: “You have caused me the worst unhappiness of my life, Paula!” So that’s why everyone around him has been so secretive, and he like an imbecile not knowing a thing! Ana Paula tries to grab his hands as she keeps apologizing, pleading with him not to think this way. “Don’t touch me!” says Rogelio in disgust as he looks at Ana Paula collapsed on the bed crying. He then wheels himself out of the room as she calls after him weeping inconsolably “Rogelio!”. What an intense scene! ¡Qué grueso!

She leans into him, begging him to understand . . .

Efrain is slinking into the Hernandez business again! Consuelo gives him a pretty smile, but he doesn't notice and goes right over to the counter to check up on Macaria. She’s feeling much better now that she knows Miguel wasn’t responsible for Maripaz’s death. Efraín starts hitting on Macaria big time, trying to get Macaria to leave with him for a bit of fun. Consuelo looks through the bar window and notices Efraín in full flirt mode. She turns away in annoyance. The chat-up succeeds, and Macaria asks Consuelo to mind the business while she steps out for a short bit. After she agrees, Consuelo notices that Macaria is following Efraín out.

Miguel is marching down the hacienda hall going to protect AP while Tía tries to stop him - “We can’t all bust in there together! It’ll look suspicious!” Miguel and Dani should go first, and just ask casually about the trip. She shows them how it’s done: “We must stop and listen at the door first. Rogelio might be with her! We first need hear what they are talking about!” Miguel ignores her and bursts through the door first anyway. Ana is in the bed weeping loudly. “Did you tell Rogelio?” asks Tía in a panic. “Yes, he now knows I’m pregnant.” admits AP. “No, no, no! You didn’t tell him you were pregnant!” screams Tía, followed by much wailing and tearing of hair and gnashing of teeth, as Miguel comforts the devastated Ana Paula.

It’s dusk at the town plaza, and Macaria and Efraín are snuggling up and kissing - did they just finish a tryst? Efraín tries to send Macaria along now to “be a good little wife” to Ulises who has been feeling neglected. Macaria looks pretty guilty - she’s can’t be loving with her husband at the same time she’s cheating on him! LOL! Effer doesn’t see the problem - Ulises is her husband after all. Effer tells her that Ulises thinks her lack of affection is due to her grief over Maripaz, but if only he knew...! Still, Macaria willingly accepts more kisses before leaving. Consuelo comes along in the distance and sees them together kissing. Busted!!!! A crying Consuelo leaves without them noticing her.

Back in APs bedroom: “But how did he take it? What did he tell you?!!!!” yells Tía in a full Mentirosa screaming fit as she rushes the bed. She’s jumped on by María and Dani who remind her (yet again!!!) that Ana Paula needs her peace. Miguel continues comforting Ana Paula who is sobbing uncontrollably, and then she rolls over in bed and faints! Dani checks her pulse - she’s not good. Dani yells at María that AP urgently needs a doctor. Miguel and María leave to see if they can locate Dr. Ernesto. Despite Dani’s protests, Tía just won’t stop pestering and shaking Ana Paula to get her to wake up as Dani starts taking vital signs.

Nasty Bruno, walking down the street, receives a call from Rutilio who wants money and help hiding. Bruno tells him that he blew it - the San Gabriel police chief now knows that Rutilio was in jail for rape and murder. Bruno tells him he said he wouldn’t help him if Rutilio didn’t control himself, so now he’s on his own to hide himself as he can. Rutilio reminds a frustrated Bruno that Bruno has to help him, ‘cause if Rutilio goes down, he’ll takes Bruno down with him.

Gustavo is in the kitchen calmly drinking coffee. María comes in asking for Ernesto or Mercedes, AP is in bad shape and she needs the doctor ASAP. Gus dial’s Ernesto’s number for María and tries to run off to see Ana Paula. “No! You can’t go see her! Rogelio is back!!!!!” yells María as she grabs him. “And if he sees you with her, there’s going to be a tragedy!”

Tía comes across Bruno in the hacienda and calls him over. She’s all freaked out because things are starting to turn the color of ants! That is, things are becoming very ugly - Rogelio is back and already knows that AP is carrying someone else’s child! Bruno is simply delighted to hear it! He can only imagine the fury that Rogelio must be feeling. “Well, AP is doing poorly.” “How poorly?” smiles Bruno hopefully. “Well, I don’t know if she is going to lose the baby - only the doctor can say.” Rosaura tells him. “Even if she loses the “escuincle” (brat), the damage is already done,” says Bruno smugly. “You don’t think there is any way to fix this?” asks Tía worriedly. Bruno is convinced that even if she loses the baby, Rogelio, just knowing that AP was in the arms of another, will come to hate her and banish her from his life. This is not at all what Tía wanted to hear!!!

Gus and María argue in the kitchen - he needs to be with AP. “Don’t be so stubborn (necio)!” scolds María, “Rogelio already knows she’s pregnant. Dani is taking care of her, but she needs a doctor. You need to locate Ernesto NOW!”

Consuelo runs back to the eatery, where Ulises is putting up the chairs, visibly upset. Ulises insists on knowing why she is so upset, so Consuelo finally makes up the story that when she went outside just now, she saw someone who reminded her of that nasty old man Rutilio. Ulises reminds her not to go outside at night by herself, but don’t worry he’ll always be looking out for her.

Dani is in AP’s bedroom tending to her as she sleeps fitfully, telling her to be calm. AP must be feverish. She calls “Rogelio, Rogelio” as she tosses and turns.

Mercedes comes into the hacienda with Ernesto - “What a relief that you came to the town first!” Ernesto can’t believe Rogelio returned to the Hacienda. Gus comes rushing in to tell Ernesto that AP is doing very poorly after she argued with Rogelio.

A lonely, sad man in black sits alone in his study, glaring at everything, remembering back to his romantic dinner with Ana Paula when she accepted the “real” ring from him signifying his love, and the time in his bedroom when she gave him a glimmer of hope that she might fall in love with him. The memories are very painful for him at the moment. María interrupts with something to tell him, but Rogelio kicks her out. He then takes their wedding photo out of his portfolio and tears it up. Ouch!

Ernesto comes in to examine AP who has been thrashing in her sleep. Dani tries to shoo Gus from the room as his presence can cause all sorts of problems. Gus begs not to be separated from the woman he loves and his baby. He insists that in fact he will stay the night to watch over AP.

Cinthia is in the kitchen to get the scoop from María about what Rogelio knows so far. María informs her that he only knows about the pregnancy. “No reason for him to know that Gustavo is the father then,” concludes Cinthia. “ Why do you say that?” asks María. “Because if she gets ill again and she loses the infant, what’s the point?” This attitude really ticks María off: “That’s what you would like, right?” Cinthia feels perfectly justified in her point of view. “That spawn is the impediment for all the good things that could happen to me!” rages Cinthia. “Don’t call it that!” yells María. “ Why not? Because of that 'escuincle' Gustavo doesn’t want to marry me anymore.” responds Cinthia. “I can understand that you care deeply for Gustavo, but not because of that should you wish that infant to die!” implores María “Well yes, yes!” yells Cinthia. “That is my greatest wish, and I hope it’s fulfilled!” as she flounces out of the kitchen. Poor María is horrified. She looks like she is experiencing her worst nightmare.

Consuelo is looking sad wiping down the bar when Macaria returns. Macaria apologizes for being late as she ran into an old girlfriend. Consuelos says “Right, a girlfriend whose name starts with ‘E’ and ends with ‘N’.” “Why do you say that?” asks Macaria. “Don’t lie, I saw you. You and Efraín kissing!” Consuelo tells her. Consuelo reads Macaria the riot act for “rolling around” with another man just after her daughter died, and the man Consuelo is in love with no less!!! Consuelo is so hurt. Macaria is a deer caught in the headlights.

Oh - here we go! Rogelio is in his study looking like he might be borracho. He’s holding some some jewelry and crying “Why, Paula, Why?” as he smashes the shell jewelry with a liquor bottle. Was this the necklace AP used to wear from Gustavo?

The peones are talking in the kitchen with María glad that el patron has returned. But María tells Hugo that Rogelio is NOT to be disturbed this evening. The peones wonder if something went bad with the operation.

It’s early the next morning, first light and the cocks are crowing. Lots of happenings at the Hacienda del Fuerte and surroundings.

Wow, Guscake DID spend the whole night in AP’s room watching over her from a chair next to the bed. AP is still out of it. “Ana, you’ve got to get well, and I’m not going to let anyone hurt you or our baby.” Gus tells her. Miguel comes in to see how she’s doing. Her fever has gone. Miguel convinces Gus to go take a break, shower, unwind and he’ll watch over AP.

Cocks are still crowing. Macaria is sitting up in bed, while Ulises sleeps beside her, remembering Consuelo’s angry lecture. Can we say remorse?

María is praying in the kitchen - while standing and holding her cup of tea no less, LOL! - asking God please not to allow another tragedy to occur in this place, to give serenity to my child Rogelio. Margarito bursts in, causing Maria to send her tea cup flying. Margarito’s crying upset because it’s his fault that all this is happening. Margarito confesses that he was the one that unthinkingly told el patron that Ana Paula was ill when he answered the phone yesterday morning. He wonders whether Ana Paula will forgive him. Maybe he won’t be adopted now. He needs lots of comforting.

There is loud banging on the study door. Rogelio is still in there. Gus comes in, ready to talk about Ana. But, obviously, Rogelio is three sheets to the wind. Rogelio seems confused about who this “Ana” person is that Gus wants to talk about and doesn’t link the name to “Paula”.

Efraín enters Cinthia’s bedroom in his usual manner, and kisses his sleeping beauty awake. But she’s grumpy as she just got to sleep and she kicks him back out. And how strange that everything’s quiet at the hacienda, she wonders, what could have been happening?

What’s happening, is that Rogelio is still drowning his sorrows, trago by trago (swallow by swallow) while Gustavo looks on, rather amazed. “And why do you want to talk about Paula - excuse me! ‘Ana Paula’? ” Rogelio slurs sarcastically. He wants Gus to join him in the tragos. “You’re too far gone says.” Gus disgustedly. “No, not far enough!” answers Rogelio, laughing sarcastically. “Are you now going to tell me why you came to see me in Mexico?” asks Rogelio. “What’s going on with Paula?” he asks, “What new pain is she going to cause me now?” Gustavo is not going to have the conversation he so desires with Rogelio so drunk. Rogelio doesn’t want Gus (he calls him goose) to leave. “They say drunks and children always say truthful things. You know what’s the worst thing? The woman that I love, because you know I would give my life for her, is expecting another man’s child!” says Rogelio as Gus looks down with angry frustration into Rogelio’s tear-stained drowsy face. Fin.

Gus comes to talk to Rogelio, while Rogelio has been imbibing in various alcoholic beverages.

Gus listens in frustration as an intoxicated, devastated Rogelio explains the cause of his distress. . .

. . . and drunken, weary Rogelio looks up at Gustavo, unaware of the reason why Gus wants to talk to him in the first place.

Avances:
Cinthia warns Mercedes that it’s all over for AP and her ‘escuincle’ now, while Bruno schemes with Rogelio to name Ana Paula’s child as his heir.

La Que No Podía Amar #80 Tuesday 4/17/12 That darn blabbermouth kid

La que no podía amar (LQNPA) April 17, 2012, Cap 80
That darn blabbermouth kid

This is another short bulleted recap, which hopefully will be expanded later. (UPDATE: It's been as filled out as it's gonna get!)

We start out with a screencap:

Rohell, garbed in fetching hospital gear, looks serious after hearing from that blabbermouth M-Grito that Cupcake is bedridden.

RECAP IN BRIEF (Events are not necessarily listed in order)

* It looks like Rutile is believed now to be the culprit for Maripaz's demise and Miguel is (finally!) off the hook. Macaria and Ulises apologize to Miguel. Consuelo does too, and she and Miguel hug and make up.

* Sinthia is now officially the Weakest Link. She has messed up the cattle thing soooo badly. She's told by the officials that this doping the cattle thing could land her (or someone) in jail. She begs Effer for help, but he tells her to accept the blame for messing up. She took the guards off the cattle, just to defy Cupcake and now she (Sin) is going to have to accept the consequences for that.

Sin is desperate for Effer's help, but it's not forthcoming, since she's been such an idiot. She also earns points with Effer by calling him "stupid."

* The Gustavito gives Cupcake a rose and tells her some mushy stuff about how he'd die if anything were to happen to her or the hijo. Then he tells her about Miguel's good news. She's thrilled. Gustavito moves in for a kiss but Cupcake doesn't seem all that eager to be kissed by him. Tia walks in on this (interrupting the almost-kiss) and rips the Cupcake a new one for allowing all this to happen.

Prince Charming . . . NOT.

Cupcake really isn't totally into getting this kiss, but she doesn't resist it either. Fortunately Tia comes in to save the day. (Seriously, Cupcake? This is in your HUSBAND'S house. True, he's been a douche, and true, he's not a "real" husband . . . yet . . . but he's trusting in YOU. Use some decorum. And you too Gustavito! You eat Rohell's food, boink his sister, and now are putting the moves on his wife, while he blissfully is unaware and trusting.  Sheesh!)

* Sin complains to Bruno about the clenbuterol. Somehow it's Cupcake's fault, she thinks. Really, she is too much.

* Mersnotty freaking out by the Gustavito's near miss with Rutile and his gun. Shrieking and carrying on as I FF>>>

* Sin thinks that when the clenbuterol crap (however you spell it) clears from the cattles' bodies (a few days) that they should be good to sell. Vainessa, however, says no way, that the cattle are contaminated and she's not buying them! Sin tries to play the friendship card with Vain, but Vain, who is for the moment showing common sense, is not going along with this. She even threatens to sue Sin if she doesn't sort out this mess. Impactada look from Sin. Vain says she'll get her meat somewhere else, she's not going to let her business suffer because of Sinthia's idiocy. (Remember, Sin ordered the guards off of the cattle, which then allowed them to be tainted yet again with clenbuterol crap.)

* Vain even goes on to say that she now sees why Rohell never allowed Sinthia to handle her half of the Hacienda—she's incompetent! Also, it's revealed that if they lose this account, that the Hacienda could be out half of their profits. Vain also reluctantly admits that when Paula was in charge, things were going okay. So this is all Sin's doing. Sin responds to all of this by kicking Vain out.

"Don't put the blame on Cupcake!" Vain yells at Sin.

* More crap with Team Evil. The Gustavito knows that Rutile worked for Bruno. The Gustavito also knows now that Bruno was the guy that Mersnotty saw kissing Cupcake. Gustavito now connects the dots and figures that Bruno sent Rutile to beat him up, thus separating him from the Cupcake, and threatens Bruno and says if he ever finds out that it was Bruno that was behind his beating . . . Bruno tries to imply that Rohell ordered Rutile to beat up Gustavito. He leaves in a huff and Bruno displays a sh*t-eating grin.

Sneaky Bruno smirks as a huffy Gustavito leaves.

* Tia comes in and puts in a word for Team Rohell. What a great guy he is, generous, blah blah blah. She tells Cupcake that she loves Rohell. Cupcake claims that she loves both guys. More claims of confusion. FF>>

* Effer talks with Ulises and Macaria about that Rutile guy. They're trying to connect the dots more about him being the culprit for Maripaz's death. After Macaria leaves, Ulises and Effer talk about Ulises's marriage. Yeah, right. Ulises says that at some point it feels like he and Macaria became less of a couple and more like Maripaz's parents. He's afraid that Macaria doesn't love him anymore. Effer looks concerned about this.

* Sin cries on the Gustavito's shoulder about being such a complete and utter loser and hopeless at running the business. Gustavito gives her encouraging words, not aware of what a complete dipshit she really is.

* Cupcake writes Rohell a very lovey-dovey, touchy-feely letter to Rohell, hoping for the best outcome for the operation, telling him that she "querers" him, and ending the letter by giving him a "strong hug." All very affectionate, so you know Rohell's going to lap that up.

* Cupcake gives this letter to Maria (who will relay it to Ernesto). She and Maria have a nice little chat where she thanks Maria for her support, even though she knows that her complicated situation (impregnated by the Gustavito) will affect Rohell when he finds out. Maria smiles and says she doesn't see any reason to make things more difficult for Cupcake. Then it comes out how Sin is treating poor Maria like crap, even though Maria raised her from infanthood. Maria is very hurt by this and cries that Sin makes sure to remind her that she's just a servant. Cupcake comforts her.

Sin, you bruja, you made your NANA cry. That is seriously not okay.

* More with Sin and Gustavito. She can count on him to help; he thinks it's troubling that there's someone trying to sabotage them.

* Bruno spins some BS tale to Ulises, saying that he didn't know what Rutile was up to and that he's told the police everything he knows, but it wasn't enough to help. Ulises has no reason not to believe this.

* Rohell is writing a letter to Cupcake, while wearing black satin jammies. He displays his dimples to great advantage and he remembers (as we are shown flashbacks) all the good times with Cupcake—her offering him a taste of her ice cream cone, the many kisses they shared, and so forth. He remembers her saying that if she fell in love with him, all she'd care about was him. This brings on even more dimples as he smiles, all hopeful and oblivious to what's really going on at home, thinking good thoughts of love about his blushing bride. Then the nurse comes in to ask him how he's doing. He says he's fine, but nervous, since tomorrow he's having an operation that will change his life forever. Then he gives another dimpled grin. Aw, Rohell, bless your heart, your trusting, hopeful heart!

Writing a letter in his satin jammies.

Remembering some of the good times with Cupcake, while also remembering what she told him about if she falls in love with him, he'll be the only thing she'll think of.

Hopeful and dimpled.

* Sin and Bruno talking about the cattle problem. She tells him all her concerns. He advises her to suck it up and ask Vain for help.

* Chio appears and I hit the FF button. Sorry. (Okay, I didn't hit the FF button but I felt the need to check my email just then. Just saying.) Actually, she's looking for a good carpenter. Gus does know of one, as it happens.

* Mersnotty tries to make nice with Cupcake, since Cupcake is the incubator for Mersnotty's niece or nephew. She also tells Cupcake that the Gustavito would "die for" the kid. Cupcake is touched, I guess.

* Tia gets into an argument with Bruno about all that's going down. Bruno has a plan, however. Rohell will be gone for a while, Cupcake can have her baby (or not) and in the meantime, they can conspire to get everything signed over in Cupcake's name, and then Bruno can get his lands back, and then start to manage the Del Fuerte Hacienda. He has a lot of contacts and can repair the soon-to-be-trashed reputation of the Hacienda by saying that it's no longer in the hands of the Monteros.

* Tia enjoys rubbing it in with the Gustavito how his single (cheapskate LOL) rose does not compare favorably with Rohell's (hideous) large floral arrangement. She makes a big production of finding somewhere to put Gustavito's lone rose, making sure the Gustavito sees Rohell's lavish gift in the process. The Gustavito gets the message loud and clear.

* Sinthia approaches Cupcake in her sickbed and asks Cupcake if she really cares for Rohell, and if so, Sin will help clear the path for Cupcake, encourage Rohell to accept Cupcake and her kid, as this will leave the field clear for Sin to swoop in on the Gustavito and marry him. Cupcake looks a bit incredulous at hearing this offer.

* Things are going bad for Sin, who is now regretting her arrogant mishandling of the cattle thing. Vain just isn't in the mood to let her business suffer due to Sin's idiocy. David looms in and says to Sin that he's the only one who is left supporting her. Sin replies that it's a lie; had he been truly "supportive," he wouldn't have cut off water to the Hacienda. Ouch!

* Rohell is about to go to be operated on, and he calls home. Big mistake. He gets that blabbermouth kid M-Grito, who lets slip that Cupcake is bedriddin and too ill to come to the phone. Rohell tries to act like he's not concerned, and M-Grito immediately realizes that he blabbed where he shouldn't, but the DAMAGE IS DONE, DAMMIT!!! You can see the wheels spinning in Rohell's mind as he digests this news.

Rohell is shocked to hear about Paula's mystery illness.

Little blabbermouth realizes too late that he's stuck his foot in it.

* Later, Cupcake, M-Grito, and Maria all pray for Rohell's well-being as they wait for news on his operation. Which never comes. Night falls and still no news.

Many prayers for Rohell's wellbeing.

Avances: Rohell returns to the Hacienda, STILL IN HIS WHEELCHAIR. That darn kid! He's ruined everything! We see Rohell talking with Cupcake, his face at first hopeful, but then she drops the bomb and you see Rohell looking shocked and striken. I think she's going to make Rohell cry.

Here are some select screenshots:

Still hopeful, Rohell rolls into Cupcake's room.

She drops the bomb. . .

. . . and I think she made him cry!

Poor Rohell, still absorbing the shock.

That is all I've got in me. Put a fork in it, I am done!

La Que No Podía Amar #79 Lunes 4/16/12 Coup d'Etat, Crime, and Punishment

That Which Has Passed
Sir Gustavo insists upon staying close to Lasy Ana Paula, Lord Rogelio asks Dr Ernesto on the phone about Sir Gustavo's emergency.
Current Happenings
San Gabriel: Macaria tells Efrain that Ulisses is blaming her for the disappearance of the letter from Margarito's mother. She accuses him of taking it; he appears a little disturbed at this.
Parlour: Dr. Ernesto attempts to assure His Lordship that all is well. His Lordship tells him that he insists upon honesty and will not tolerate liars. This does not bode well. As Dr Ernesto hangs up the telephone Maria asks whether he suspected anything. Dr Ernesto states that Lord Rogelio is very intelligent and perceptive and knows that something has happened. He doesn't like to lie but the situation demands it. Maria is grateful he didn't ask to speak to her because she has never lied to him and doesn't believe she would be able to. She hopes that Lady Ana Paula will be well shortly so that Lord Rogelio would never need to know that they concealed anything from him. She finishes by saying that she had always thought that Vainessa was the love of his life but she sees now that he loves Lady Ana Paula and that Vainessa is simply a bad memory. [We wonder in the meanwhile how she could hope that so many of Her Ladyship's enemies would hold their peace.]
San Gabriel: Macaria has realized that Efrain was the person who stole the documents from the file cabinet and demands their return. Efrain sensibly asks how she purports to explain this to Ulisses. She demands to know who Margarito's father is, but Efrain refuses to tell now, stating she will find out in due time. She didn't have the guts to open the box but he did. He further reminds her about her revealing the existence of the letter when they had spent the night together. That appears to silence her. Which is difficult at best.
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: Dr Ernesto enters to inform her that she is anaemic and must eat well. And that she must remain calm. He further assures her that His Lordship as yet knows nothing and that his surgery will take place this very week.
San Gabriel: Macaria is getting ill at ease because Ulisses only spoke to her of the letter. To calm her, Efrain uses the same remedy he applies to Lady Chatterley. Who certainly will not enjoy finding out about her rival.
Montero Manor, Stables: After we see Knave Skelator leaving cautiously with black trash bags, someone finds an empty canister of clenbuterol in his wake.
Study: Jacinto enters hoping to see Her Ladyship and instead finds Lady Chatterley, who informs him that the clenbuterol issue is solved and if he will not consent to take orders from her he can leave. She handles the riding crop for emphasis. Apparently the cattle is to be tested and Lady Ana Paula had ordered it.
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: Lady Daniela enters to find an empty bed as Lady Ana Paula comes out of the water closet. She returns to the bed thinking about all that needs doing, but Lady Daniela tells her that her priority is the baby. After helping her into bed she brings forth a large arrangement of what appear to be red roses sent by His Lordship (who obviously had not seen it, as we all know he has better taste). Their love theme begins as the note says “Thinking of you every moment.” Her Ladyship is moved.
Study: The only thing Lady Chatterley is taking seriously is the illusion of her own power, as she dismisses Jacinto's concern about the clenbuterol. He finally tells her that the culprit has yet to be caught. She orders him to gather the workers. He appears grateful to be leaving the study.
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: Margarito kneels on the trunk at the foot of the bed, asking about the baby. Of course Her Ladyship does not know the gender of the child nor is that of importance to her. Margarito speculates on how the baby should be named, for Her Ladyship's father or mother... or Sir Gustavo if it's a boy. When he jumps down he is in pain and she gently reproaches him for not taking better care. Sir Gustavo enters to enquire as to Her Ladyship's health.
Ulisses' Shop: Macaria continues to swear she does not have the letter. She asks the identity of Margarito's father, but Ulisses does not know. The woman who had given it to him was very ill and he did not read the letter. Macaria points out that Margarito appears happy at the manor, as Lady Ana Paula cares for him as though he were her own son. At which time Macaria asks about her reaction to the rose arrangement. Ulisses does not know, as he only left it there. Macaria reproaches him because he passed up the opportunity to learn the identity of the father of Her Ladyship's baby. By the gods, this woman is almost as shameless as Lady Begoña of La Ermita. Ulisses does not want to know more of this; he is more concerned about whether Lord Rogelio was deceived by his lady wife. Ulisses most definitely does not approve of the apparent adultery, but Macaria – due undoubtedly to her own pecadilloes – comments that that is their business and that sometimes infidelity has a reason. To the sounds of discordant piano music Ulisses goes on about how when things do not go well in a marriage they should be confronted. If that fails, then the two parties should part and go their separate ways and that there is no excuse for adultery. She looks surprised and not pleasantly.
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: Sir Gustavo offers to do whatever Her Ladyship wishes, to get her books or other things, but she assures him she feels better. Margarito asks about the nine-month deadline, stating it's a long time and asking whether His Lordship will be back by then, but Her Ladyship tells him she does not know and that too many people already know about the baby. It's only a matter of time before everyone knows. All she knows is that she loves the baby; she knows not what awaits them all. Margarito asks whether if she adopts him he will be the baby's half brother, as she and Vainessa are half sisters. She appears lost for words.
Grounds: Tia MentiRosa follows Skelator, calling his name. She carries a large bouquet of flowers.
Rosaura: Bruno!
Bruno (to himself, annoyed): Here she comes.
Rosaura: Bruno, where are you going in such a hurry?
Bruno: I have things to do in town.
Rosaura: So now it's your job to take out the garbage?
Bruno (dropping the bags): I don't believe I have to account for my every move to you.
Rosaura: Yes; it's clear to me that's not your way. But look (holds up canister as sinister music begins) you dropped a container of clenbuterol. (Suspense music begins) With this you contaminated Rogelio's cattle. I will never forgive you for this!
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: Margarito asks whether he and Her Ladyship's baby will be brothers. At her uncomfortable and silent reaction Sir Gustavo suggests that they could say so, but that they must allow Her Ladyship to sleep. It is daytime, so Margarito doesn't quite understand this, but allows himself to be guided out the door. To the sound of a solo piano, Sir Gustavo slowly kisses Lady Ana Paula's forehead and strokes her face tenderly before leaving the room. Lady Daniela arrives at the same moment, commenting on how many visitors she has.
Ana Paula: Yes, and all are commenting on how serious it would be if Rogelio knew of my pregnancy.
We think that her sarcasm is a defense mechanism because she herself knows the risk.
Grounds: We do not dare predict what will ensue from this confrontation.
Rosaura: Ana Paula must see this. I never imagined you were a traitor!
Bruno: Watch your tongue because what you did to your niece is much worse!
Rosaura: Don't try to change the conversation. (looks to make sure nobody is close enough to hear) We're talking about messing with Rogelio's property. And that I can't not tell.
Bruno: I know what I'm doing. Give me that. (tries to grab the canister, but Rosaura will not release it)
Rosaura: The problem with this plan is that the value of the estate will drop. Then what will we get out of it?
Bruno: Listen to me. To weaken Rogelio this estate must be debilitated.
Rosaura: Bruno, as a good lawyer you say a lot of things that sound true, but I don't believe you.
Bruno (wiseacre): No?
Rosaura: To me you are just out for yourself and I don't want your treason. (hits him with the flowers)
Bruno: It's not true. You've trusted me for months. I screwed Vanessa and her business is getting weaker, so how do you think she feels? She's in a rage against Rogelio.
Rosaura: Look, she demanded that Ana Paula pay the penalties and now she has to pay more?
Bruno: This is part of the cost of creating more distance between Vanessa and Rogelio. It happens that your niece is sick and pregnant. When she has the baby Rogelio can imprison her or throw her out. And what do you think Vanessa will do? She'll fly into his arms when she knows where he is. At least we can make them fight.

Ulisses' Café: Lord Esteban and Lady Sneerwell sit at an outside table.
Esteban: So Vanessa was annoyed when she saw me with Chio. Wouldn't recognize her. I love it.
Mercedes: Esteban, be careful. Women don't like when men who once adored them move on to another because they have to feel the most important. Women are very vain.
Esteban: You want to say this is only –
Mercedes: Yes. Only for that does this bother Vanessa. And forgive my frankness but I don't like that you have more illusions about her.
Esteban: Although if she wants me? I don't want to lose out again. Because in the matter of the water we're on opposite sides.
Mercedes: Yes. One you can't do anything about and the other is what your heart makes you do.
Grounds: One of these will surely ground the other.
Rosaura: I don't know. You haven't convinced me of anything you say.
Bruno (takes it away): Above all you won't say a word about the clenbuterol. If you interfere with this I am capable of telling Ana Paula that you asked me to do something to Gustavo. (Jacinto enters)
Rosaura: What's up, Jacinto?
Jacinto (to Bruno): The boss wants to see all of us right away.
Bruno: Thanks; I'll be right there. (Jacinto exits)
Rosaura: And now what of my niece?
Bruno (sinister laugh): Your nephews? (evil smile)
Rosaura: Aver, the important thing is she gets out of bed. Because if she disobeys the doctor it won't be long before she loses the baby that will complicate her life.
Bruno (merde-eating grin): And you're still calling me a traitor?
Rosaura: Yes. And from this moment on, don't even think of putting clenbuterol in the cattle feed. Do you understand? Because whom do you think will tell Rogelio? Just so you know to watch out. (flips the bouquet in his face; he scowls)
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: The Town Drunk and Lady Daniela stand before her as she speaks of how she worries about Margarito. The boy is so hopeful and also so worried about his adoption.
Ana Paula: I feel so bad for Margarito. Up to now he's hoping Rogelio and I will adopt him. I had to tell him that when Rogelio knows I'm pregnant everything will change. You understand?
Dani: Of course. The thing he wants most is parents.
Miguel: Couldn't you and Gustavo adopt him?
Ana Paula: I, yes, but – (tries to sit up higher, but Daniela stops her) that can't happen because the papers were filed by Rogelio and myself. I can only hope that Margarito won't be hurt.
Dani: You are right. Now don't worry. You must be relaxed and happy to be having a baby.
Ana Paula (shaking her head): I won't be alright until I know the baby is out of danger.
Dani: Then you have to be patient.
Ana Paula: Besides, I don't like being here doing nothing.
Miguel: It's what you have to do to save your baby's life.
Ana Paula: Yes, yes. (ominous piano solo begins) But I'm referring to defending the estate for Rogelio. What can I hope to do from here?
Dani: Don't be anxious. Everything is on track. Miguel hasn't had a drop of alcohol.
Miguel: Yes. I'm designing furniture and investigating proof of my innocence.
Ana Paula: Really? (takes his hand and smiles)
Ulisses' Café: Lady Sneerwell dispenses sisterly advice
Mercedes: I'm glad you have to promised me you won't go near Vanessa. And also be careful with Chio. Don't go back to her just to provoke Vanessa.
Esteban: I'd never do that. And we've spoken as friends.
Mercedes: I hope that's true because I don't want her to be obsessed with you and start that all over again.
Esteban: Don't worry. I promise to be very careful with this matter. Tell me, how are things going with Paula? Your nephew?
Mercedes: Better, but I hope this woman is careful so my nephew will be born healthy.
Esteban: You still resent Ana Paula?

Lady Sneerwell picks up her cup with a wry expression.
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber:
Miguel: It seems that Mercedes and Dr Ernesto saw this so-and-so Rutilio bothering Maripaz here in San Gabriel. Efrain also saw him in Tuxtla.
Dani: And now he's also bothering Consuelo.
Ana Paula: What? Who is he? Does anyone know him?
Dani: That's what Miguel is asking. His name is Rutilio and according to Consuelo he works for Bruno.
Ana Paula: Really?
Miguel: But in reality, now it's all supposition. What I want to do is go into San Gabriel and talk to the chief of police so he can investigate.
Ana Paula: Ay, Miguel. One hopes this information will serve in some way.
Study: The feudal usurper addresses the serfs.
Sinthia: This is how it will be since my brother isn't here and my sister-in-law is ill. (Hugo raises his hand)
Hugo: Boss?
Sinthia: What is it, Hugo?
Hugo: What is wrong with Ana Paula?
Sinthia: You don't need the details. What's important is she can't be in charge of the estate. (Rosaura watches her carefully)
Jacinto: Therefore, what's going to happen?
Sinthia: What's going to happen? Just what's happened since Rogelio left. I am the boss and will be in charge of everything.
Rosaura: But His Lordship stated clearly that my niece was to be in charge of this. (Miguel enters) Miguel, didn't he clearly state that? Didn't he? (Miguel nods)
Sinthia (with a satisfaction that is no secret to us): Madam, madame, the truth is she can't handle it. You don't want me to go into details as to why.
Rosaura: No, no; Sinthia, there is no necessity for that. It's that my niece is a little sick and needs to stay in bed; you're in charge, Sinthia, in the meantime. (Maria is not looking happy about any of this)
Marcial: Do we go back to work now as before?Sinthia: No. No, no, no. We're going to be organized differently from what Paula did.Efrain: So what are you trying to say?Sinthia: Well, to begin with, the guards for the clenbuterol are not necessary.Miguel: Therefore?Sinthia: Therefore, look for the –Rosaura (rolling her eyes): Ay, good because we have to nab him [guantar]Sinthia: Yes, but it should be clear to everyone you will all have to work harder than ever.Maria: Sinthia, I'm sure everyone just as much as I is prepared to do everything that's necessary but when Rogelio returns all goes on as before.Sinthia (whacking the desk with the riding crop): What I want is for things to be better than when he left.Hugo (raising his hand): How do we do that?Sinthia (making various gestures with the riding crop): With all the strength we can muster. For example, Hugo, you will be in charge of the seeding. Jacinto, you will be in charge of the animals. Marcial, you will be in charge of the house. (Efrain sneezes, but it is clearly feigned. Sinthia notices.) You three are all then to report to Efrain and he will inform me of all that happens.Maria: Sinthia?Sinthia: Yes, Nanna?Maria: I think it's important that you personally –Sinthia: What? What are you trying to say? That I'm saying something wrong?Maria: Not precisely.Sinthia: Therefore it's better to say nothing. (Maria backs off, disappointed and more) Does anyone else disagree? (waits less than one second) Good, because I give the orders around here and anyone who doesn't like it gets fired. (snaps her fingers; she is enjoying this too much)Rosaura (who has brass ones compared to all the surrounding men): Sinthia, Maria continues in the kitchen?Sinthia (perhaps a little confused): Yes, the kitchen. And since Consuelo is not here with us, you will help Maria. (Rosaura makes a sound of dissatisfaction) And not only this. You will also be helping Lidia with the bedrooms and Petra with the laundry. (Rosaura starts to protest) You. You. (holds up her hand) No, no. no. Don't go on about being sick or you better go back to Tuxtla to die quietly and leave us alone.
Street: Lady Chio walks with a local man talking about future merchandise for her shop. He talks about a local furniture maker, but mentions that he isn't reliable. We are bored.

Corridor: Tia MentiRosa complains to Miguel about Lady Chatterley's coup d'état and says that Her Ladyship should be informed. Miguel tells her firmly that she is to say nothing to her. [He may be the Town Drunk or the Village Idiot, but at least he is looking out for his sister.] He points out that Lady Chatterley is a Montero and the estate can't be in the hands of a stranger. Tia MentiRosa refers to her as “capricious” and points out that she knows nothing about anything regarding the estate. Miguel suggests that they let her bring about her own failure but they go about their business so as not to appear to be the parasites they are. Above all, because the only important thing is his sister's health and his nephew's survival.
Parlour: Lord Esteban asks Sir Gustavo whether he needs assistance or a loan. Sir Gustavo tells him he does not require it. Lady Sneerwell enters with the coffee tray, which she puts on the table behind the open laptop computer. He tells him that the money for the hotel he and Ana Paula stayed in was adequate. Lady Sneerwell makes a sarcastic comment about it being a luxury hotel which – predictably – nearly sets him off. “As insulted as I am, I don't want us to fight. And I remind you of your promise to do everything so that Lady Ana Paula gets well.” This causes Lady Sneerwell to make a face and run from the room to the corridor where she runs into Lady Chatterley. Whom she immediately tells she is having an argument with her brother about his being willing to spend all his current funds on Lady Ana Paula's care. She is very angry about this. Lady Chatterley's face is like stone.
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: Knave Skelator defiles it with his presence as he tells her to remain calm.
Bruno: Relax. Sinthia has taken the reins of the estate with much energy.
Ana Paula: But Rogelio always told me she knows nothing about this. She never wanted to learn.
Bruno: Ana Paula, please forget about this for now. (kneels next to the bed and takes her hand) Better think that it's lucky that Rogelio isn't here right now so we can all take care of you as you deserve.
Ana Paula: Bruno, I asked to talk to you because I wanted to ask you what you know about a man named Rutilio.
Bruno: Rutilio?
Ana Paula: Yes. He works for you, doesn't he?
Bruno (getting up and looking away): Well, in reality, Rutilio is of no importance. Why do you ask?
Ana Paula: I have been told that he is bothering Consuelo. Just as he did Maripaz.

(Suspense music begins as Bruno's expression tells us that he has been caught off guard.)
Parlour: Sir Gustavo sits on the sofa working on his computer as Lady Chatterley enters. She shocks him by telling him she is worried and by handing him a checque to pay Her Ladyship's medical expenses. [Now, would she not be insured?] Ominous music sounds.
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: The viper turns again

Bruno: I don't know what you were told, but I never gave him work.
Ana Paula: Then what exactly does he have to do with you? Because Dani and Miguel say you know him.
Bruno: A few times I had him deliver some documents to Tuxtla but (turning away) truly I don't know much about him. (turning back) It's like you're asking me about Consuelo, Efrain, or Hugo. Despite they've being all this time on the estate; what I know about? Why are you interested?
Ana Paula: Because he bothered Maripaz. Miguel and I are looking to find out if he had anything to do with her death.
Parlour: Sir Gustavo attempts to refuse the checque; Lady Chatterley will not hear of it.
Gustavo: Sinthia, this is a lot of money. I can't –
Sinthia: No, no, I don't want you to return it. At the least it could remove all the worries you have about this.
Gustavo: No, no, no, thanks, but I can't accept –
Sinthia (virtually kneeling before him): No, please. Take it. (She wears a pleading expression we don't quite believe) Take it as part of your pay for the time you've been working here.
Gustavo: But this is much more than your brother and I agreed he would pay me. Because of that I can't accept it, so please take it back. (tries to hand it back)
Sinthia (stopping him): No. Don't be so proud. (Her expression here is either desperate or stark staring mad) Now the important thing is that Paula be well-attended. (coy expression)
Gustavo (thoughtful expression and short pause): Sinthia, what happened when Paula became ill? Maria told me she was with you. Did you argue?
Sinthia (expression of panic): What? How could you think this was my fault? She gets sick because – (feigns tears)
Gustavo: Why?
Sinthia: Because you were threatening to tell Rogelio about this. (suspense music with a lot of percussion begins)
Gustavo: But I told you –
Sinthia: So is it fair to say it's my fault? I spoke with Paula and she was afraid that Rogelio would toss both of you out.
Gustavo: Yes, but that can't be –
Sinthia: You provoked it all, Gustavo. You provoked it. You went to see my brother. After that Paula and I couldn't stop you.
Gustavo (guilty expression and gesture): Very well. Excuse me. You're right and I did seek him out. Neither does that excuse me. (takes her hand)
Sinthia: The only thing I want is to help Paula [???]
Gustavo: Thank you, Sinthia.
Sinthia: Now she can't be moved and she and your child are defenseless. Gustavo, think about it. Rogelio can't know that you are the father of this baby. (cliffhanger music as she exits)
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber:
Bruno: Right now I will look for Rutilio to see what's up.Ana Paula: Thanks. But right now Miguel and Dani are on their way into town to talk to the chief of police.Bruno: One hopes they can find something out to remove suspicion from your brother. Right now, relax, take care of yourself and know that I will take care of Miguel. (exits, closes the door with an evil smile, and takes out his cell phone)
Outside: A worker sends Efrain to see Lady Chatterley.
San Gabriel: Rutilio grabs Consuelo on the street. As she struggles Miguel appears from behind, launches himself at him, and shoves him back. Consuelo shouts “He's the one who bothered Maripaz.”
Study: Lord Abel and the agriculture association secretary are seated in front of Lady Chatterley. They inform her that Lord Rogelio has been removed as president of the association. She asks that this wait until his return, but they reply that this is a fait accompli. The secretary hands her a file with documentation demanding testing of the estate's cattle.
San Gabriel: Rutilio knocks Miguel backwards saying “Don't dare mess with me” only to be attacked by Sir Gustavo who enters running, then tackling him. Once he has him on the ground he tears away his neckerchief and finds the scar he once described . He immediately recognizes him as the man who had tried to kill him months before. However, Rutilio has a few stone on him so he knocks him back and runs away, shooting behind himself as he exits.
Study: Lady Chatterley doesn't like it, but she is backed into a corner. She has no choice but to permit this. However, she tells them that her foreman will be present to supervise the testing and that she will be contacting her lawyer. She loves playing with the riding crop, but Lord Abel is not intimidated by her threats.
San Gabriel: Miguel gets Consuelo to stand, saying he will help Sir Gustavo. She is too afraid, so he remains with her as Sir Gustavo approaches. Consuelo tells him that this was the man who was bothering Maripaz. He tells them that this same man hit him on the head the night before Lady Ana Paula's graduation. He recognized the scar. He got away only because he was shooting. Miguel looks down at the pavement and finds Maripaz' religious medallion, which Consuelo recognizes.
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: Dr Ernesto again urges Her Ladyship to remain in bed and remain calm. She explains her worry about her brother and implores him to put her in touch with His Lordship.
San Gabriel: Consuelo and her two rescuers walk along toward the constabulary; Miguel doubts that his word would be believed. Consuelo is not worried because the gunshots would have been heard, but when they arrive at Ulisses' shop Macaria is worried about her because she is late. She does not like the company she keeps, either. Ulisses is enraged and when Miguel attempts to explain what happened and shows the found religious medallion Ulisses attacks him despite Sir Gustavo's attempt at being the voice of reason.
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: Dr Ernesto phones His Lordship, learning that the operation is scheduled for the next day. The connexion is not that good, but he tells him that Her Ladyship wishes to speak with him.
Ulisses' Shop: Sir Gustavo restrains Ulisses, He, Miguel, and Consuelo explain all and return the medallion to Macaria, who believes them. Ulisses asks where the varlet is.
Her Ladyship's Bedchamber: Opera love music underscores this conversation.
Ana Paula: Rogelio, how are you?
Rogelio: Missing you. But happy because we'll see each other soon. As you heard, tomorrow is my operation.
Ana Paula: All should go well. And here we're all thinking of you.
Rogelio: You know the only thing I want is for you to think of me.
Ana Paula: Of course I think of you and thank you for the flowers. They're beautiful.
Rogelio: It's good you are pleased. I was worried because Gustavo got a call –
Ana Paula: No, no, no; don't worry, don't worry about anything; I'm fine. The only thing that's important is that you're relaxed for your operation. I want to tell you to take good care of yourself and know we all want it to go well.
Rogelio: Yes. Because I'm doing everything necessary for that. I promise.
Ana Paula: Good. I have to hang up now. Good luck, Rogelio.
Rogelio: Paula, I love you. [amar]
Ana Paula: I love you very much. [querer] (their love theme begins) I mean that with my whole heart. Be well. (both hang up. Ana Paula looks at the roses)
Study: Lady Chatterley and Mellors are about to have quite a tiff. He is well aware she is enjoying her power and although he doesn't say so, he knows that she has no qualification for it. Marcial enters to inform her that the secretary of agriculture has completed the tests. Lord Abel and the official enter to give her the news. She smugly states that they found nothing, but Lord Abel states that they found traces of clenbuterol in all the feeding troughs.
That which is to come
Lady Chatterley and Vainessa argue, Lady Chatterley is threatened with prison over the clenbuterol, and Margarito spills the frijoles to His Lordship.

La Que No Podía Amar #78 Friday 4/13/12 If Gollum Had a Sister Her Name Would Be Cinthia, or Much Ado About Something

Lo Del Pasado:

Cinthia has badgered Ana Paula with the fact that Gustavo found out Rogelio’s whereabouts and has gone to tell him about her being pregnant with Gus’s baby. It’s the last straw for pregnant Pau.  Sin’s eyes positively sparkle with malevolent desire as Ana Paula’s angst translates into severe cramping and she collapses in pain.  Paula begs her SIL to fetch Maria but Sin just stands there, visibly quite overjoyed at the prospect of Ana Paula’s possible miscarriage and even worse.  The Cupcake is apparently in too much pain to notice, however, and more’s the pity.  In the D.F., meantime, romantically inclined Rogelio believes Gus has come all that way to the hospital to ask for Sin’s hand in marriage, tho’ nothin’ could be further from the truth!

Lo Del Nuevo:

Ernesto has heard Pau screaming and raced into the room and to Paula’s rescue.  He looks over at the immobile Sinthia, sees her hard-hearted glower and is incredulous-impactado at her apparent inhumanity.  (It remains to be seen if Ernie will believe his lyin’ eyes and get the word to Gus.  Viewerville starts taking bets.)

Ro-Hell and Gus begin discussing the water situation and how David refuses to comply with the Commission’s ruling to remove the dike.  Gus gets a call on his cell before he gets a chance to mention the real reason he came.  On the phone, Ernie tells Gus the bad news and that the baby might not make it.  Cara de tell-me-it-ain’t-so de Gustavo.  Gus excuses himself by dodging Ro-Hell’s questions, i.e., fibbing to say there’s an urgent family matter—but, no, nothing to do with Mercedes.  He says he’ll get back to him and then leaves for Hell-Fuerte.

Ernie, Rosaura and Maria are all three hovering in Ana Paula’s bedroom.  Maria wants to tell Rogelio (--bite your tongue, woman!), but Rosie frantically intercedes  with an emphatic NO! She reminds them all that if ro-Hell finds out Ana will never get the bed rest the doctor’s ordered.  Works for Pau and she says nix telling Rog that she’s sick—let alone why.

Esteban drops in on Vanessa to discuss the dicking dike and how she’s involved with it part deux –er dos.  She artfully gets him off balance with a jab at his manhood and poor choice of female Nessa make-do’s.  He starts huffing and puffing then and wants to know why Big Dave told him she is also part owner of La Negra and involved in his plan to dike up the river.  “—Is it true you only bought the property to be near Rogelio?”  Nessa tells him that with the problem of the Clenbuterol she needs a second cattle ranch to get her stock from –like his or even her own ranch if it comes to that.  Steve jealously screams a machisto “I told you so!” about Ro-Hellio.  He then gets hold of himself and wants to know why if the ranch is David’s, it’s in her name and why Dave’s the one giving the orders there.  Nessa lies and says she did it to insure he paid her back the money he borrowed from her to buy the place with.  Steve seems to swallow it whole.  Doesn’t even ask for a glass of water.

At the same time back at Hell-Fuerte, Rosie and Maria gripe about who’s going to cook and who’s going to watch over Ana Paula.  FF>>

Outside in the hallway, Sin comes bouncing up to Maria to see if Pau had lost the baby or not.  Maria says no and pray to God it doesn’t happen, but she’s really ill and the baby could die.  Sin fairly salivates at the idea—unbeknownst to the tired Maria.

Vainessa obviously has poor Stevie’s machismo number, and she continues playing Dumb’n Sexy to perfection.   He, trained to perfection like a Pavlov puppy, continues reasoning with his 5th appendage.  (Obviously she’s just as sure that if she goes to court over this she can convince the judge in the same way.  Speaking of which, when was the last time we ever saw a female judge preside in Telenovelaland, hmmmmm?)  “—Esteban, I’m innocent.  Just because my name is on the deed doesn’t mean I had anything to do with that.”  He finally summons enough upper gray matter to warn Vainie that for her own good, since her name is on that deed as owner, that if Dave doesn’t take that dike down as ordered it’ll be her ass that’s on the legal hot seat.

Meanwhile, Gus gets hold of Mercedes on her cell and tells her that he didn’t get a chance to tell Rog about the baby after all.  She says it’s probably best he doesn’t either.  “—Things happen for a reason.”  He asks her to forget her personal feelings and take care of Pau for him.  (Yeah, b!tch!  Remember? You’re a nurse, ya know, a Nun of Nightengale.)  She squinches up her nose at the detestable thought but says fine--not for AP’s sake, but for Gus and her future nephew.  (She is so totally high-school it makes me retch.  Speaking of high school, pardon me while I indulge.  What’s up with the black peep toe heels and white socks, eh, Mersnottys?)

Back at Hell Fue’te, Sin is making Bro-Hell’s office a bit more “cozy” [acogedor], before brandishing her own whip “Thwap!”  at Bruno, and commandeering Bro-hell’s leather-lined throne for her own.  FF>>

In the meantime in metro San Gabriel, Efrain and Macaria are having a rendezvous in the park.  She says she’s heard from Consuelo that Effer’s in love with a woman he can’t have.  Could that woman be me, asks the pitiable Macaria.  Not a chance, chuckles Effer, since between them it has always been for personal entertainment, a bit of diversion.  (Looks like Macaria is having a hard time believing her own lyin’ eyes where this jerkwad is concerned.  Can’t say as I blame her, tho’, considering poor, homely, honest, dull, and boring Ulises is all she’s got to head off to bed with every night.  Jes’ sayin’.)

Sin tells Bruno first thing she’s going to do is call a meeting of the employees, just like AP did, to make sure they know what’s what and that she’s the only true “patrona” of Hell-Fue’te despite Rog’s royal decree [disponer = royal decree i.e., with kings].  Paula’s about to abort, she tells him, and Bro-Hell’s not around, so now the only one able to take charge here is her.

Macaria tells Effer she’d leave everything for him, but Effer doesn’t care.  The cad reminds her he told her from the first it was only a friendly, fun romp ‘n roll.  She wants to know who the woman is if it’s not her, then.  He asks her why, since it wouldn’t change the kind of relationship the two of them have together.  She’s better off making up with hubby Uli, he advises, or else Uli’s going to start to suspect something.  Take care of him and then the two of them can meet up again there tomorrow for a little bit more of rock’n rolla slap ‘n tickle.  Macaria. desparate to change the answer she keeps getting, kisses the rascal good-bye and agrees to meet him again.

Bruno now asks if Sin has bothered to think what she’s going to do next.  She says she’s going to marry Gus and claim her inheritance.  No, no, clarifies Bruno, I mean in taking control of the hacienda.  It’s not as easy as you think.  Well, she snickers, if Paula could do it, she can too.  He reminds her Paula was getting pointers from Rog.  Oh, so she’s now supposed to get instruction from Bruno in how to handle a load of farmhands?  He flippantly replies that it’s nice to see she recognizes how much he knows about the way this place works.  He can even advise her about the business with the clenbuterol.  Naw, Sin says.  They did what they intended with that when whoever planned that wrecked Rog’s deal with the Americans.  Sure they won’t bother anymore with it.  Maybe not, says Bruno.  Well, says Sin, she’ll cancel Ana Paula’s order to keep watch over the cattle any longer.   “--Yeah, but it worked pretty well,” says Bruno.  “—Yeah, but the damage is already done since the Rancher’s Association wants to throw Rogelio out of office now.”   Bruon offers to leave immediately to find out what he can about that and get back to her on it. Bruno fairly clicks his heels as he pays “homage” to the new hellion of Hell Fue’te.  “—Patrona.”  He fakes a cool smile and calmly walks out the door.

We beam to another part of downtown San Gabriel, to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, where Michael is thanking Dani and the people in the group for their moral support.  They offered when almost everyone else in town still considers him Maripaz’s murderer and an untouchable.

Back in AP’s bedroom, Ms. Mercy is nursing Pau.  Paula tells her she knows Ms. Mercy would have rather it be anybody else in the world but her making her an aunt.  Mersnottys tells her boy, has she got that right!  If it weren’t for Gus asking she wouldn’t touch her with a ten foot pole!  She changes the subject to let her know that for now Gus didn’t tell her husband about the pregnancy.  Under her breath, tho’,  Mersnottys tells herself that still, it won’t be long until he eventually does.

In town at the plop ‘n shop, Connie listens to Uli pour out his heart over missing Maripaz and worrying over Macaria.  Connie tells him to cheer up and eventually all will get back to normal.  Uli leaves. Thug Guy, Rutilio, walks up and starts harassing her.  She gives him grief.  Eventually Effer comes walking down the street towards them and the creepy pervert takes a hint and walks off--for now.  Effer mentions he’s the same guy that was molesting Maripaz in Tuxtla a while back and he had to come to the rescue [estar al quite= to help out, help dodge something/someone] and scare the creep off.   Effer’s letting her know about this so she can keep her wits about her [estar a las vivas] next time.

That night, while Pau prays to the diosito not to lose her baby, Rosie and Bruno are hissing angrily over Paula’s endangered pregnancy, and that it’s led to Sinthia’s usurping control of the hacienda and ultimately putting a wrench in their plans.  Rosie is all in a snit. “--The best thing that could happen to Paula is for her to lose that baby!”  Bruno reminds her she’s talking about her grand-nephew.  Doesn’t matter a whit to Rosie who hates the sound of that term and how oooooold it makes her feel.  Well, says Bruno, whatever, but if Paula’s going to lose that kid it better be now or else!!  “--Sinthia’s taken control of things here and she’s going to make it impossible for us to continue with our plans!”  “—No way!  We won’t let that happen!  We’re going to get what we want no matter what it costs!”

Back at the plop ‘n shop, Uli yells at Macaria for stealing the letter and the papers with it that Margarito’s mama left in his care.  Macaria denies knowing anything about the letter being stolen.

Effer’s dropped in for another bit of midnight delight with Sinthia.  Sin says she’s the one giving orders now at Hell Fue’te, but Effer wisely reminds her that as long as her SIL is still alive and kickin’ not to be so sure.  With that in mind, what’ does Sin want him to do with her little “pet”?  Does it go in her room or in Rog’s room?  She tells him to hang on to the snake just in case, but since Paula may abort soon they may not need to use it after all.

Mikey and Dani discuss his success with his first AA meeting.  FF>>

Macaria swears she didn’t take the letter.  Uli’s really showing a sweat and tells her this is serious business.  Who else could it be if not her?

Out front, Connie runs into Dani and Mike heading home and tells them about the creepy man that has been harassing her lately.  “—Maripaz told me Ernesto saved her from this guy once and I figure it’s the same guy because she told me about the paliacate [brightly colored scarf] he had tied around his neck.  He did the same to me today.  Efrain told me he was bothering Maripaz in Tuxtla also.”  Mikey asks if he’s from Tuxtla or what and why he’s in town.  Connie explains that Macaria told him he works for Bruno.  Dani’s surprised, she says, since she works for Bruno and doesn’t know the first thing about the guy.  Mike wonders if she thinks he might have had something to do with Maripaz’s death.  (Duh! Duhn- Duhn-Duhnnnn!!!)  Perhaps, says Connie, so since the’re still investigating it, she thought they should know.

The next morning Guscakes finally there at Cupcake’s bedside.  She wakes up and sees him standing there.  She’s mentions she’s worried about the baby.  He swears he’ll do anything to keep her from losing it.  Both are totally out of their minds with worry and cry over the possibility “their” child might not make it.

In town, Big Dave and Bruno are knocking back a couple of beers again.  Bruno asks Dave if he hasn’t had his full of Sinthia and Nessa about now.  (Viewerville certainly has!  Absotively and posolutely! )  yeah, says Dave, and he can’t believe they aren’t thrilled that he’s the villain here, and covering for them.  Dave swears to Bruno that he’ll never take the dike down!  Rogelio is going to pay with blood as far as he’s concerned.  That means his next order of bidnez is gonna be Paula!  She’s the center of his world, obviously, agrees Bruno.  “Look at the money he paid you to keep his BIL out of jail.”   Dave brags that when the guy’s fat and happy then he’ll tell Paula the real story.  Bruno wonders what he’s talking about.  Big Dave proceeds to explain that her brother never stole any truck from his company.  It was all just a ruse of Rog’s.  He asked Dave to go to the police and falsify charges against Mike.  The insurance could have easily paid any damages and all the hospital bills.

Back at Paula’s bedside, Gus tells her the anxiety over losing her and the baby has been killing him.  She admits she felt the same way when she found out he’d gone to tell Rogelio the truth.  Gus apologizes for causing her so much grief and for leaving her in her time of need.  He’ll never leave her side again, ever!

Dave continues telling Bruno the real story behind Mikey’s forced incarceration.  Paula always knew her brother was innocent and simply on company business making a company delivery when the accident happened.  Bruno is whuddayaknow-impactado and asks if Dave can prove it.  Sure, says Dave.  He has both the original documents and the falsified ones safe in a lockbox in his office.  Bruno laughs at the rude surprise Paula’s going to get especially now that she’s fallen in love with her husband.  He warns that if Dave’s going to do it he’d better do it before Rog is able to walk again, or he’s going to prove to be a more capable adversary than ever.  Dave doesn’t understand.  Just what does Bruno mean by “walking again”’?  Yeah, says Bruno.  “--He’s having an operation and we’ll have to be better prepared.”

Sin is in the hallway near the doorway to Paula’s room.  She manages to eavesdrop in the shadows on the touching, three-hanky scene while Gus tearfully apologizes for pressuring Pau the way he has and then offers to step aside for the health of their child.  Sin goes into seething mode at the sight of Gus in tears, his head on Pau’s lap, and Paula’s hand lovingly caressing his (omg! Jeri-gooed) hair.

At the same time Rogelio, in his hospital room in Mexico City, is daydreaming about married life with Paula as a new man, one who can again stand and walk: they’ll have a romantic, candle-light dinner; he’ll stand up, cavalierly take her hand and pull her close to him; he’ll kiss her debonairly and then let her have her way with him…..  (Ah, you dimpled devil, you!)  He comes back to the here and now and makes a call to Ulises to do him a favor.

Gus and Pau agree that they won’t make any more big decisions until the baby is out of danger.  She has him promise not to run off to tell Ro-Hellio the truth ever again.  It about kills Gus to do it, but he promises he won’t do it again.

Sinthia waits in the shadows of the hallway for Gus to come out of Paula’s bedroom.  She hugs him and pretends to be Miss Sweetness and Light, fearing what might have happened once Bro-Hell found out.    Gus tells her he never had a chance to speak to Rog.  She reels Mr. Naive in by offering him her support and supposed sympathy at the possible loss of his child.  “--I’ve come to a conclusion:  I am capable of doing anything as long as it will keep you at ease.  Despite the fact that Paula and I don’t get along, I’m ready to make the effort just for you.  I want to help both of you.  I know how important your baby is for you.”  “--Really, Sinthia?  How terrific of you!”   (I have to bag the gag attack till the next commercial break.  Damn!)

In the kitchen there’s more squabbling between Maria and Rosie.  FF>>

Gus finds Ernesto in the living room now and they begin to discuss the real situation with the baby and Ana.  Ernie tells him that Paula had some bleeding and that the threat of her aborting continues.  Gus is frantic to get her to civilization and a real hospital setting.  Too bad.  Nothing like that exists here!   In any event, Paula’s too weak to be moved.  They’ll have to do the best they can right there.  Keep her calm, fed and rested.  “--Don’t tell Ana this, but the chances the baby will make it are slim, very slim!”

In town, Effer runs into Connie again.  He wants to know why she really left the hacienda to work in town.  Connie tells him she wanted to avoid having to be around him any longer.  Effer asks if she’s got something going with Mike.  She blows him off and says no.  They’re just friends.  He tells her (and my hubby’s always agreed) friendship between a man and a woman doesn’t exist.  “--That’s your problem if you believe that,” she sneers back at him.  She has a thought.  “—What I want to know is if Michael really killed Maripaz.”  Of course he did, says Effer, and everyone knows it.  He’s just trying to persuade her otherwise.  Connie isn’t so sure now.  “--It’s just that the guy from this afternoon who’s been bothering me also was bothering Maripaz.  What if it was him?”  The wheels in Effers head start turning…slowly, but there is movement.

Meanwhile, Ernie reminds Gus that although he’ll be there for his nephew and for Ana, the chances are mighty poor for the baby.  “For that baby to make it through this we’ll need a real miracle.”  Gus begs for time to stay with Ana till she and the baby are both out of danger.  Ernie says he’ll have to tell Rog what’s going on.  Gus freaks and reminds him that not only would it wreck Rog’s chances for a successful operation, but it would definitely cause Ana grief.  (No duh!  What’s with all this honesty all of a sudden when everyone knows the damaging effect it will have on Rog, and then both AP and the baby???)  Ernie reluctantly agrees.  (Viewerville lets out a communal sigh of relief along with Gus.)

Back in town, Effer asks what that creepy guy is doing here and also in Tuxtla.  Connie mentions that Macaria told her he works for Lic. Bruno.  Either way, she plans to find out what’s what.  She walks on and he yells at her to keep him informed.  Macaria walks up behind him at that point and swats him for two-timing her at their rendezvous (while they’re obviously two-timing Uli).   Effer’s amused she’s jealous of him and says it’s not his fault women are so stuck on him [me caigan como gripa al pecho = lit.  they fall on me like influenza onto a chest].  Sheesh.

Maria has a chat with Ernie now and thanks him for staying there with Paula, even though he should be with Rog.  He calls Rog and asks if they can reschedule the operation.  Rog isn’t happy about that since he’d wanted to return to the hacienda able to walk and what with the water problems, he’s reluctant to stay away any longer than necessary or to have Paula continue facing them alone.  No, says Rog, he’s going to get the surgery and then just do the rehab back at the hacienda.   One more thing, tho, says Rog before hanging up.  He wants to know what’s going on with Gus.  “--He rushed in and rushed out for some emergency and now you can’t come to Mexico to do the surgery.  What’s the matter?  What are you hiding?  You might as well tell me because I’m going to find out anyway.”  Oi vey.
