La Que No Podía Amar #78 Friday 4/13/12 If Gollum Had a Sister Her Name Would Be Cinthia, or Much Ado About Something

Lo Del Pasado:

Cinthia has badgered Ana Paula with the fact that Gustavo found out Rogelio’s whereabouts and has gone to tell him about her being pregnant with Gus’s baby. It’s the last straw for pregnant Pau.  Sin’s eyes positively sparkle with malevolent desire as Ana Paula’s angst translates into severe cramping and she collapses in pain.  Paula begs her SIL to fetch Maria but Sin just stands there, visibly quite overjoyed at the prospect of Ana Paula’s possible miscarriage and even worse.  The Cupcake is apparently in too much pain to notice, however, and more’s the pity.  In the D.F., meantime, romantically inclined Rogelio believes Gus has come all that way to the hospital to ask for Sin’s hand in marriage, tho’ nothin’ could be further from the truth!

Lo Del Nuevo:

Ernesto has heard Pau screaming and raced into the room and to Paula’s rescue.  He looks over at the immobile Sinthia, sees her hard-hearted glower and is incredulous-impactado at her apparent inhumanity.  (It remains to be seen if Ernie will believe his lyin’ eyes and get the word to Gus.  Viewerville starts taking bets.)

Ro-Hell and Gus begin discussing the water situation and how David refuses to comply with the Commission’s ruling to remove the dike.  Gus gets a call on his cell before he gets a chance to mention the real reason he came.  On the phone, Ernie tells Gus the bad news and that the baby might not make it.  Cara de tell-me-it-ain’t-so de Gustavo.  Gus excuses himself by dodging Ro-Hell’s questions, i.e., fibbing to say there’s an urgent family matter—but, no, nothing to do with Mercedes.  He says he’ll get back to him and then leaves for Hell-Fuerte.

Ernie, Rosaura and Maria are all three hovering in Ana Paula’s bedroom.  Maria wants to tell Rogelio (--bite your tongue, woman!), but Rosie frantically intercedes  with an emphatic NO! She reminds them all that if ro-Hell finds out Ana will never get the bed rest the doctor’s ordered.  Works for Pau and she says nix telling Rog that she’s sick—let alone why.

Esteban drops in on Vanessa to discuss the dicking dike and how she’s involved with it part deux –er dos.  She artfully gets him off balance with a jab at his manhood and poor choice of female Nessa make-do’s.  He starts huffing and puffing then and wants to know why Big Dave told him she is also part owner of La Negra and involved in his plan to dike up the river.  “—Is it true you only bought the property to be near Rogelio?”  Nessa tells him that with the problem of the Clenbuterol she needs a second cattle ranch to get her stock from –like his or even her own ranch if it comes to that.  Steve jealously screams a machisto “I told you so!” about Ro-Hellio.  He then gets hold of himself and wants to know why if the ranch is David’s, it’s in her name and why Dave’s the one giving the orders there.  Nessa lies and says she did it to insure he paid her back the money he borrowed from her to buy the place with.  Steve seems to swallow it whole.  Doesn’t even ask for a glass of water.

At the same time back at Hell-Fuerte, Rosie and Maria gripe about who’s going to cook and who’s going to watch over Ana Paula.  FF>>

Outside in the hallway, Sin comes bouncing up to Maria to see if Pau had lost the baby or not.  Maria says no and pray to God it doesn’t happen, but she’s really ill and the baby could die.  Sin fairly salivates at the idea—unbeknownst to the tired Maria.

Vainessa obviously has poor Stevie’s machismo number, and she continues playing Dumb’n Sexy to perfection.   He, trained to perfection like a Pavlov puppy, continues reasoning with his 5th appendage.  (Obviously she’s just as sure that if she goes to court over this she can convince the judge in the same way.  Speaking of which, when was the last time we ever saw a female judge preside in Telenovelaland, hmmmmm?)  “—Esteban, I’m innocent.  Just because my name is on the deed doesn’t mean I had anything to do with that.”  He finally summons enough upper gray matter to warn Vainie that for her own good, since her name is on that deed as owner, that if Dave doesn’t take that dike down as ordered it’ll be her ass that’s on the legal hot seat.

Meanwhile, Gus gets hold of Mercedes on her cell and tells her that he didn’t get a chance to tell Rog about the baby after all.  She says it’s probably best he doesn’t either.  “—Things happen for a reason.”  He asks her to forget her personal feelings and take care of Pau for him.  (Yeah, b!tch!  Remember? You’re a nurse, ya know, a Nun of Nightengale.)  She squinches up her nose at the detestable thought but says fine--not for AP’s sake, but for Gus and her future nephew.  (She is so totally high-school it makes me retch.  Speaking of high school, pardon me while I indulge.  What’s up with the black peep toe heels and white socks, eh, Mersnottys?)

Back at Hell Fue’te, Sin is making Bro-Hell’s office a bit more “cozy” [acogedor], before brandishing her own whip “Thwap!”  at Bruno, and commandeering Bro-hell’s leather-lined throne for her own.  FF>>

In the meantime in metro San Gabriel, Efrain and Macaria are having a rendezvous in the park.  She says she’s heard from Consuelo that Effer’s in love with a woman he can’t have.  Could that woman be me, asks the pitiable Macaria.  Not a chance, chuckles Effer, since between them it has always been for personal entertainment, a bit of diversion.  (Looks like Macaria is having a hard time believing her own lyin’ eyes where this jerkwad is concerned.  Can’t say as I blame her, tho’, considering poor, homely, honest, dull, and boring Ulises is all she’s got to head off to bed with every night.  Jes’ sayin’.)

Sin tells Bruno first thing she’s going to do is call a meeting of the employees, just like AP did, to make sure they know what’s what and that she’s the only true “patrona” of Hell-Fue’te despite Rog’s royal decree [disponer = royal decree i.e., with kings].  Paula’s about to abort, she tells him, and Bro-Hell’s not around, so now the only one able to take charge here is her.

Macaria tells Effer she’d leave everything for him, but Effer doesn’t care.  The cad reminds her he told her from the first it was only a friendly, fun romp ‘n roll.  She wants to know who the woman is if it’s not her, then.  He asks her why, since it wouldn’t change the kind of relationship the two of them have together.  She’s better off making up with hubby Uli, he advises, or else Uli’s going to start to suspect something.  Take care of him and then the two of them can meet up again there tomorrow for a little bit more of rock’n rolla slap ‘n tickle.  Macaria. desparate to change the answer she keeps getting, kisses the rascal good-bye and agrees to meet him again.

Bruno now asks if Sin has bothered to think what she’s going to do next.  She says she’s going to marry Gus and claim her inheritance.  No, no, clarifies Bruno, I mean in taking control of the hacienda.  It’s not as easy as you think.  Well, she snickers, if Paula could do it, she can too.  He reminds her Paula was getting pointers from Rog.  Oh, so she’s now supposed to get instruction from Bruno in how to handle a load of farmhands?  He flippantly replies that it’s nice to see she recognizes how much he knows about the way this place works.  He can even advise her about the business with the clenbuterol.  Naw, Sin says.  They did what they intended with that when whoever planned that wrecked Rog’s deal with the Americans.  Sure they won’t bother anymore with it.  Maybe not, says Bruno.  Well, says Sin, she’ll cancel Ana Paula’s order to keep watch over the cattle any longer.   “--Yeah, but it worked pretty well,” says Bruno.  “—Yeah, but the damage is already done since the Rancher’s Association wants to throw Rogelio out of office now.”   Bruon offers to leave immediately to find out what he can about that and get back to her on it. Bruno fairly clicks his heels as he pays “homage” to the new hellion of Hell Fue’te.  “—Patrona.”  He fakes a cool smile and calmly walks out the door.

We beam to another part of downtown San Gabriel, to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, where Michael is thanking Dani and the people in the group for their moral support.  They offered when almost everyone else in town still considers him Maripaz’s murderer and an untouchable.

Back in AP’s bedroom, Ms. Mercy is nursing Pau.  Paula tells her she knows Ms. Mercy would have rather it be anybody else in the world but her making her an aunt.  Mersnottys tells her boy, has she got that right!  If it weren’t for Gus asking she wouldn’t touch her with a ten foot pole!  She changes the subject to let her know that for now Gus didn’t tell her husband about the pregnancy.  Under her breath, tho’,  Mersnottys tells herself that still, it won’t be long until he eventually does.

In town at the plop ‘n shop, Connie listens to Uli pour out his heart over missing Maripaz and worrying over Macaria.  Connie tells him to cheer up and eventually all will get back to normal.  Uli leaves. Thug Guy, Rutilio, walks up and starts harassing her.  She gives him grief.  Eventually Effer comes walking down the street towards them and the creepy pervert takes a hint and walks off--for now.  Effer mentions he’s the same guy that was molesting Maripaz in Tuxtla a while back and he had to come to the rescue [estar al quite= to help out, help dodge something/someone] and scare the creep off.   Effer’s letting her know about this so she can keep her wits about her [estar a las vivas] next time.

That night, while Pau prays to the diosito not to lose her baby, Rosie and Bruno are hissing angrily over Paula’s endangered pregnancy, and that it’s led to Sinthia’s usurping control of the hacienda and ultimately putting a wrench in their plans.  Rosie is all in a snit. “--The best thing that could happen to Paula is for her to lose that baby!”  Bruno reminds her she’s talking about her grand-nephew.  Doesn’t matter a whit to Rosie who hates the sound of that term and how oooooold it makes her feel.  Well, says Bruno, whatever, but if Paula’s going to lose that kid it better be now or else!!  “--Sinthia’s taken control of things here and she’s going to make it impossible for us to continue with our plans!”  “—No way!  We won’t let that happen!  We’re going to get what we want no matter what it costs!”

Back at the plop ‘n shop, Uli yells at Macaria for stealing the letter and the papers with it that Margarito’s mama left in his care.  Macaria denies knowing anything about the letter being stolen.

Effer’s dropped in for another bit of midnight delight with Sinthia.  Sin says she’s the one giving orders now at Hell Fue’te, but Effer wisely reminds her that as long as her SIL is still alive and kickin’ not to be so sure.  With that in mind, what’ does Sin want him to do with her little “pet”?  Does it go in her room or in Rog’s room?  She tells him to hang on to the snake just in case, but since Paula may abort soon they may not need to use it after all.

Mikey and Dani discuss his success with his first AA meeting.  FF>>

Macaria swears she didn’t take the letter.  Uli’s really showing a sweat and tells her this is serious business.  Who else could it be if not her?

Out front, Connie runs into Dani and Mike heading home and tells them about the creepy man that has been harassing her lately.  “—Maripaz told me Ernesto saved her from this guy once and I figure it’s the same guy because she told me about the paliacate [brightly colored scarf] he had tied around his neck.  He did the same to me today.  Efrain told me he was bothering Maripaz in Tuxtla also.”  Mikey asks if he’s from Tuxtla or what and why he’s in town.  Connie explains that Macaria told him he works for Bruno.  Dani’s surprised, she says, since she works for Bruno and doesn’t know the first thing about the guy.  Mike wonders if she thinks he might have had something to do with Maripaz’s death.  (Duh! Duhn- Duhn-Duhnnnn!!!)  Perhaps, says Connie, so since the’re still investigating it, she thought they should know.

The next morning Guscakes finally there at Cupcake’s bedside.  She wakes up and sees him standing there.  She’s mentions she’s worried about the baby.  He swears he’ll do anything to keep her from losing it.  Both are totally out of their minds with worry and cry over the possibility “their” child might not make it.

In town, Big Dave and Bruno are knocking back a couple of beers again.  Bruno asks Dave if he hasn’t had his full of Sinthia and Nessa about now.  (Viewerville certainly has!  Absotively and posolutely! )  yeah, says Dave, and he can’t believe they aren’t thrilled that he’s the villain here, and covering for them.  Dave swears to Bruno that he’ll never take the dike down!  Rogelio is going to pay with blood as far as he’s concerned.  That means his next order of bidnez is gonna be Paula!  She’s the center of his world, obviously, agrees Bruno.  “Look at the money he paid you to keep his BIL out of jail.”   Dave brags that when the guy’s fat and happy then he’ll tell Paula the real story.  Bruno wonders what he’s talking about.  Big Dave proceeds to explain that her brother never stole any truck from his company.  It was all just a ruse of Rog’s.  He asked Dave to go to the police and falsify charges against Mike.  The insurance could have easily paid any damages and all the hospital bills.

Back at Paula’s bedside, Gus tells her the anxiety over losing her and the baby has been killing him.  She admits she felt the same way when she found out he’d gone to tell Rogelio the truth.  Gus apologizes for causing her so much grief and for leaving her in her time of need.  He’ll never leave her side again, ever!

Dave continues telling Bruno the real story behind Mikey’s forced incarceration.  Paula always knew her brother was innocent and simply on company business making a company delivery when the accident happened.  Bruno is whuddayaknow-impactado and asks if Dave can prove it.  Sure, says Dave.  He has both the original documents and the falsified ones safe in a lockbox in his office.  Bruno laughs at the rude surprise Paula’s going to get especially now that she’s fallen in love with her husband.  He warns that if Dave’s going to do it he’d better do it before Rog is able to walk again, or he’s going to prove to be a more capable adversary than ever.  Dave doesn’t understand.  Just what does Bruno mean by “walking again”’?  Yeah, says Bruno.  “--He’s having an operation and we’ll have to be better prepared.”

Sin is in the hallway near the doorway to Paula’s room.  She manages to eavesdrop in the shadows on the touching, three-hanky scene while Gus tearfully apologizes for pressuring Pau the way he has and then offers to step aside for the health of their child.  Sin goes into seething mode at the sight of Gus in tears, his head on Pau’s lap, and Paula’s hand lovingly caressing his (omg! Jeri-gooed) hair.

At the same time Rogelio, in his hospital room in Mexico City, is daydreaming about married life with Paula as a new man, one who can again stand and walk: they’ll have a romantic, candle-light dinner; he’ll stand up, cavalierly take her hand and pull her close to him; he’ll kiss her debonairly and then let her have her way with him…..  (Ah, you dimpled devil, you!)  He comes back to the here and now and makes a call to Ulises to do him a favor.

Gus and Pau agree that they won’t make any more big decisions until the baby is out of danger.  She has him promise not to run off to tell Ro-Hellio the truth ever again.  It about kills Gus to do it, but he promises he won’t do it again.

Sinthia waits in the shadows of the hallway for Gus to come out of Paula’s bedroom.  She hugs him and pretends to be Miss Sweetness and Light, fearing what might have happened once Bro-Hell found out.    Gus tells her he never had a chance to speak to Rog.  She reels Mr. Naive in by offering him her support and supposed sympathy at the possible loss of his child.  “--I’ve come to a conclusion:  I am capable of doing anything as long as it will keep you at ease.  Despite the fact that Paula and I don’t get along, I’m ready to make the effort just for you.  I want to help both of you.  I know how important your baby is for you.”  “--Really, Sinthia?  How terrific of you!”   (I have to bag the gag attack till the next commercial break.  Damn!)

In the kitchen there’s more squabbling between Maria and Rosie.  FF>>

Gus finds Ernesto in the living room now and they begin to discuss the real situation with the baby and Ana.  Ernie tells him that Paula had some bleeding and that the threat of her aborting continues.  Gus is frantic to get her to civilization and a real hospital setting.  Too bad.  Nothing like that exists here!   In any event, Paula’s too weak to be moved.  They’ll have to do the best they can right there.  Keep her calm, fed and rested.  “--Don’t tell Ana this, but the chances the baby will make it are slim, very slim!”

In town, Effer runs into Connie again.  He wants to know why she really left the hacienda to work in town.  Connie tells him she wanted to avoid having to be around him any longer.  Effer asks if she’s got something going with Mike.  She blows him off and says no.  They’re just friends.  He tells her (and my hubby’s always agreed) friendship between a man and a woman doesn’t exist.  “--That’s your problem if you believe that,” she sneers back at him.  She has a thought.  “—What I want to know is if Michael really killed Maripaz.”  Of course he did, says Effer, and everyone knows it.  He’s just trying to persuade her otherwise.  Connie isn’t so sure now.  “--It’s just that the guy from this afternoon who’s been bothering me also was bothering Maripaz.  What if it was him?”  The wheels in Effers head start turning…slowly, but there is movement.

Meanwhile, Ernie reminds Gus that although he’ll be there for his nephew and for Ana, the chances are mighty poor for the baby.  “For that baby to make it through this we’ll need a real miracle.”  Gus begs for time to stay with Ana till she and the baby are both out of danger.  Ernie says he’ll have to tell Rog what’s going on.  Gus freaks and reminds him that not only would it wreck Rog’s chances for a successful operation, but it would definitely cause Ana grief.  (No duh!  What’s with all this honesty all of a sudden when everyone knows the damaging effect it will have on Rog, and then both AP and the baby???)  Ernie reluctantly agrees.  (Viewerville lets out a communal sigh of relief along with Gus.)

Back in town, Effer asks what that creepy guy is doing here and also in Tuxtla.  Connie mentions that Macaria told her he works for Lic. Bruno.  Either way, she plans to find out what’s what.  She walks on and he yells at her to keep him informed.  Macaria walks up behind him at that point and swats him for two-timing her at their rendezvous (while they’re obviously two-timing Uli).   Effer’s amused she’s jealous of him and says it’s not his fault women are so stuck on him [me caigan como gripa al pecho = lit.  they fall on me like influenza onto a chest].  Sheesh.

Maria has a chat with Ernie now and thanks him for staying there with Paula, even though he should be with Rog.  He calls Rog and asks if they can reschedule the operation.  Rog isn’t happy about that since he’d wanted to return to the hacienda able to walk and what with the water problems, he’s reluctant to stay away any longer than necessary or to have Paula continue facing them alone.  No, says Rog, he’s going to get the surgery and then just do the rehab back at the hacienda.   One more thing, tho, says Rog before hanging up.  He wants to know what’s going on with Gus.  “--He rushed in and rushed out for some emergency and now you can’t come to Mexico to do the surgery.  What’s the matter?  What are you hiding?  You might as well tell me because I’m going to find out anyway.”  Oi vey.

Great title!

ITA, great title. And Rosaura also, who is about as much help as a trap door in a canoe.
I do enjoy these weekend discussions, thanks for putting up the board.

OK, need an expert opinion. AP officially prayed for her hijo to be saved, so this must happen, right?

Emarie-
That's a good question. Did she really pray for the child to live or that everything turn out all right?
If it's the latter, then a miscarriage could be what turns out for the best.

Great title, J. Looking forward to the recap.

The pacing of this novela has fallen off so suddenly and completely. It's as though we are all waiting for Rogelio to come back and get the story back on track.

It is of course completely out of character for Rogelio to abandon ship for weeks this way. I'm sure that the producers were in quite a fix when JS took ill, and so seriously so. Amazing that even in the hospital, he delivers!

Traveling Lady, so true about the story line. He would never have done this. I wish that they had just suspended taping while he was in the hospital, but I suppose it would have cost a lot of money to do that. Although, they could have offset some of it with more product placements.
What brand of pregnancy test kit was it? What brand of tequila was Miguel getting drunk on? What drug maker manufactures Clenbuterol?

Cathyx; funny about filling in with product placements, the clembuterol.
AP was praying with Margarito, and said...Por favor, dios mío, ayuda y protege a mi hijo, te suplico con todo mi corazón que mi bebé..
that was all.

I'm wondering what would be the difference in Rogelio between the baby surviving and AP having a miscarriage. At this point I thinks he's bound to find out about the pregnancy no matter what, because too many people know and nobody (except Maria) can keep a secret. Plus, AP will want to be honest with him, as she should.

I'm sick of Gustavo continuing to live in Rogelio's house. But now that AP's bedridden, I guess he's not leaving any time soon.

Now that Sin thinks she's in charge of the hacienda, I suppose she'll start wearing power midriff tops.

I give Efrain kudos for at least being straight with Marcaria that "love" has nothing to do with their relationship, just fun and games. I feel sorry for her. She's grieving and needs something.

Looking forward to the recap Jardinera.

"The pacing of this novela has fallen off so suddenly and completely. It's as though we are all waiting for Rogelio to come back and get the story back on track."

I agree Traveling Lady. The story line has gotten off track because the producer wasn't sure if Jorge would be able to come back due to his illness. There was even talk of possibly recasting which I think would not have worked because Jorge owns this role. I'm glad that it all worked out that he was able to continue and loved seeing Rog looking much better in his scenes. Jorge still brings it no matter what.

I too am sick of Gus and his sister living in Rog's house. They both need to go away. Gus hanging around acting like he's AP's husband doesn't help either. I'm sure when Rog returns, he will find out since too many people know. It's bound to happen.

I'm so sick of Cinthia. She just wanted to throw her weight around when she knows nothing of the business.

Efrain was straight to the point huh. Marcaria was just a roll in the hay and that's it.

Once Margarito's paternity is revealed Rogelio may not be in a position to judge AP about this baby.

He certainly didn't intend to impregnate this unknown woman, but he's an educated man and should have known to use protection. That makes him just as guilty as AP in terms of wrongdoing.

Now that Ulisses knows that the letter and documents are missing, the issue is going to be investigated again. And even if Sinthia does the evil deed of destroying them (I'm surprised she hasn't) Rogelio can always demand a blood test. Ernesto is incorruptible, so he can count on the true result.

As for Tia MentiRosa, she is so far beyond redemption I hope she eventually ends up as a scullery maid. Working for Vainessa.

Efrain is now the most likely person to solve the mystery of Maripaz' murder. I don't know if that is good or bad. Would he try to blackmail Rutilio or Macaria?

Great recap, Jardinera. I loved your snark and cracked up over lines like "Steve seems to swallow it whole. Doesn’t even ask for a glass of water." I'm really glad to see that some people are beginning to think about Rutilio in connection with Maripaz's death. I wonder who will finally connect all the dots.

What's with the snake? Didn't we see a scene in an earlier episode's avances showing AP either terrified by the snake or actually bitten by it? I expected to see that scene last night. Or did I hallucinate the entire thing?

Thank goodness for the weekend break. I can't take much more of the shtick with Maria and MentiRosa, nor for that matter AP and Gustavo. Interesting how the scene with Sinthia deliberately withholding help when AP pleads for it mirrors the scene between Vanessa's father and mother. I wonder whether that will prove significant--could it prompt a rift between Vanessa and Sinthia?

Oh well, happy weekend!

Loved the recap as always Jardinera. About the truck. Rog wanted David to file false charges that Miguel stole the truck which he later tried to rectify by hiding him when the police showed up at the hacienda. However, Miguel still would have gone to jail for killing two people in the accident because he drove impaired ie drowsiness. That is the gist of it right.

I know he used the situation to his advantage to get AP to marry him because she would have never returned to the hacienda under any circumstance.

Jardinera, wonderful recap as usual, written so well, I enjoyed it as the best entertainment for my weekend, anyway.
Ulyses doesn't even know what the letter says; he was faithful about not opening it. Neither does Macaria. They don't even know it is connected to Rogelio; and they don't know to see if Efrain has it. So as far as they're concerned it is gone.
So it all hinges on what Efrain and Sinthia know.

I think Sinthia is presuming an awful lot when she thinks she is taking over the hacienda.
AP's miscarriage (if she has one) is an early one. (She's not even showing at all). Those are common and usually uneventful with a fast recovery comparable to having an extra heavy menstrual cycle. She would be back on the job.

ITA, I really will be glad to have them finally track down Rotellio; there are too many untold secrets piled up.

As always, Jardinera, your recap is the hilight of my weekend. Thank you.

"Viewerville starts taking bets." sobre lo de Ernesto telling Gus. You nailed it againwith your riotously astute speculations.

O-o-oh that Jheri-goo. I kept wondering what it was about the Gus-boy that bugged me so. His spiky-do and the worried eyebrows.

"The wheels in Effers head start turning…slowly, but there is movement." Oh--y-e-a-a-h ! ! !

I find it curiously inconsistent that Ulisses never opened the letter... and he is a gossip. It's a good thing he didn't because Macaria can't keep any secrets except her own.

The earlier comment about Sinthia gleefully watching Ana Paula's pain made me think that Sinthia will eventually join Elsa in the manicomio. But it was worse because it crossed a line: Elsa's glee was pure madness while Sinthia's was more cold-blooded. I guess all the heat she might have in her blood is saved for her Lady Chatterley activities.

Yes, Urban, it would seem that Sinthia is filling up her cup of TN judgement, she is worse than I thought she would be.

Wonderful recap Jardinera!

And yeah, viewerville is fed up with Vanessa and Cinthia already. Well, I used to get fed up with Vanessa quicker, there's something I've always liked about Susana González and that keeps me from being too upset with her on my screen.

I kind of feel for Macaria but her husband is a nice guy and I hate to think how he would feel if he found out her betrayal after having to endure the death of their only daughter.

I want to pry Gustavo away from Ana Paula. I feel suffocated everytime he gets close to her for some reason, must be all those troubles he seems to have when he tries to breath.

Jarocha

Thanks Jardinera for this great snarky recap. Loved all your great lines.

I agree with everyone about Gus and Cupcake. He needs to go, but on the other hand he and Doc Ernie are the only ones really protecting her. If the Cupcake were left alone, Sin could do whatever she wanted to her.

How crazy is Sin with that whip? I can't stand her. With her in charge the hacienda will go to rack and ruin, especailly with Skelator "helping her", yeah right.

Glad someone is on Rutillo's tail.
I am glad the slow wheels of Effer's brain are turning. I hope they figure out that Rutillo killed Maripaz soon, Ruti is so evil and creepy.

Mersnotty was making me sick. Loved the line about the nun of Nightingale lol. At least she is nursing the Cupcake. Mersnotty needs to keep her personal opinions to herself.

I thought Esteban was so smart. Vainy's story is so not holding water.

So Lord Shady Deals kept those documents. I'm really surprised at that. I thought he would CYA. I wonder how he is going to show the Cupcake these? Guscakes and Doc Ernie will never let him near her.

Excellent, Jardinera.

Does anyone remember whether Rogelio ever fessed up to Ana Paula about the threat against Miguel?

I really want him to live his daydream about the candlelight dinner. Would that I deserved anything like that...

Lord ShadyDeal will have his comeuppance. It may be sooner than we think now that Gustavo and Esteban have his number.

The last female judge I remember was in LFdD. She was the family court judge who granted custody of Alex to Ivan. But that was in Los Angeles.

A new thought about Rogelio, Ana Paula, and kids: If they previously discussed the possibility of adoption beyond Margarito and if Margarito turns out to be Rogelio's son, there is no good reason he can't come to accept Ana Paula's, considering the totality of the circumstances of his conception. Or is he too bull-headed to realize that her feelings for him now (and for the last whatever since her return to the ranch) are what really count?

Thanks, amigas! Always happy to brighten up the weekend if I can. LOL!

I was trying to think what will Ernesto make of Sin's response to consciously keep from admitting the evil willing her and that baby to die that he saw in Sin's eyes. Can't blame it on shock after growning up in the wilds of a cattle ranching hacienda; can't either after seeing the bitchy scene she and Vainessa put on for the group the other night. Makes you wonder if he'll try separating our Nun of Nightengale from the other two before it's over.

I don't think Rogelio has ever bothered to explain his turning Michael into a jailbird yet to AP. If he had he wouldn't have paid the million pesos' worth of blackmail money to David.

As for his night of pleasure as a walking romantic, I'd hope for them to share their married life happily for a while till maybe he sacrifices himself to save AP and the live baby somehow. That would leave the road open for Gus and her to have a life together as a married couple also and then give them Mgrito as planned.

Good Lord! You're right about Mercedes' seemingly extensive visit and stay as a guest at Hell-Fue'te. Either
she's got tons of vacation time saved up or time is moving veeeeery slowly in Telenovelaland.

Anybody know if it took a full day and 1/2 for Gus to drive back from Mexico, but only a day to drive up there?

I meant Sin's willing AP to die...

God no, Jardinera. I'm a die-hard for Rogelio to end up with Ana Paula. Since he is related to Margarito (we still aren't sure whether he is M's father or half-brother) it would be more than unjust on for the boy to lose again in his quest for a good set of parents.

I don't think Gustavo is mature enough for a good marriage yet, let alone fatherhood. Not to mention that Ana Paula has come to love Rogelio. He can't face that possibility. He may be learning how to stand up to his bitchy sister and to take charge of a professional situation, but that has nothing to do with a marital relationship.

I agree with you about Dr Ernesto. He hasn't commented yet about Sinthia's evil glee at Ana Paula's illness but he has to say something before much more time goes by. Surely he can't like the idea of his sister being friends with the likes of her and Vainessa. He has to know something about psychology since his own field must run into it from time to time and there can't be anything more disturbing than Sinthia's hatred of Ana Paula, which didn't require the complication of the pregnancy.

Definitely Gus is growing up still. However, so IMHO is AP. I guess I was just trying to think of a way Team Gus and Team Rogelio could both have their cake and eat it too. " :? /

I haven't been able to comment recently but have appreciated all the recappers' work and enjoyed all the comments.

I was in the camp that privately thought AP would not be pregnant. Wrong! If AP doesn't lose the baby and she stays with Rogelio, that will be one messy family situation. Gustavo will then always be a part of their lives. However, the director ended Teresa with a messy family situation as well. Professor Hottie stayed with Teresa after she had lured away his sister's boyfriend.

I was disappointed to see Sin and Effen take the path to the truly dark side. Effen was a jerk but he was a fun character. Sin was a jerk but still seemed like a lost soul. Attempted murder: nothing is amusing or interesting about them now.

Jardinera, I loved your description about Esteban's apparent inability to reason. I can't believe he seemed to swallow all Vainey was dishing up.

Gustavito has looked pretty hot these last several episodes. I love a man in jeans. Now if he could just learn to act. As others have said, he needs to dial down all the huffing and puffing as an expression of all his angst.

UA, I totally agree. It would be beyond cruel to have Margarito lose blood family again.

Jardinera, though I started out in Gustavo's camp, I've been won over by Rogelio's dimples (what? me frivolous??) and turned off by Gustavo's immaturity. Thus, even aside from the issue with Margarito, I don't want to see the ending you've proposed. I want to see Rogelio and AP together in the end. Also, somehow dying, no matter how nobly, does not seem to me to be having one's cake and eating it, too.

Thank you Jardinera for the great recap. I totally agree about Mercedes' long vacation time. That's the problem when a TN has 2 locations that are a distance away. How to get the characters together in a believable fashion. Abismo de Pasion has this problem too.

Gus huffing and puffing is so old and tiresome. I can't stand his scenes any more.

Did anyone see the avances? Could someone post the translations if they did? It was packed full of happenings, but without cc's I was at a loss to really understand them.

Agreed - great title. I just wish the lovely Susana G. weren't so skinny, her face looks so bony and it does make her eyes seem huge at times. She'd be able to pull off an immature/youngish and somewhat lazy woman if she had a bit of baby fat on her face.

UA - no, Rogelio never told AP anything about his involvement in Miguel's initial incarceration or later when the Federales showed up.

Alright - I'm off to read the recap. I've been messing around with getting my blogger profile set up instead. :)

Jardinera:

"Anybody know if it took a full day and 1/2 for Gus to drive back from Mexico, but only a day to drive up there?"

The drive from Mexico City to Tuxtla is 12 hours, I don't know where the Hacienda is supposed to be but we could add 2 or 3 hours more in some difficult roads.

If Gus is some kind of Superman that can drive fast and without much stops, he can get to DF in a day. I find the day and a half, however, much more believable since he is a human being that probably needs to rest sometime.

Jarocha

Thanks Jardinera! Great recap and very complete. I missed some of the dialog so it was good to get the details.

Wow - Cinthia with the fuete - talk about ambiciosa! She thinks all there is to being the patrona is walking around brandishing the whip. What a power trip for her!

So now Bruno finds out the extent to which Rogelio went. This knowledge in Bruno's hand is a serious loaded weapon. Bruno will do his worst with it.

Of course David angles it to make himself look good. If Rogelio hadn't been in the loop, David would have denied Miguel the help simply because he is an stay man and a cheapskate, and he probably would have accused him of truck theft to get the company off the hook. But at the time, he offered to Rogelio to do "the right thing" as a personal favor even though you could see David was quite reluctant. But since Rogelio had sent Miguel to David for a job, David figured Rogelio would want him to take care of Miguel properly. And David was very surprised when Rogelio told him to hold off the help for now. Now Bruno knows!

Thanks Audrey for breaking out the sequence of steps in that whole stolen truck drama. I've never quite understood all the subtleties of these character's attitudes and their motivations. The whole thing just seemed like one big lio of merde for Micki and an opportunity for the opportunists.

Thank you for the fabulous recap, Jardinera! :) I always enjoy (and envy) your cleverness and snark!

Re: Rohell sacrificing so that Gus and Cupcake can be together. I would hate this ending too. The focus has always been more on Rohell and I think he needs to be redeemed and he needs to get the girl.

I agree that Rohell should be with his son (if M-grito is his son). I don't think they set up this whole storyline where Cupcake loves that kid so much (and that kid—we presume—turns out to be Rohell's), just so that Rohell can farm out the kid to Cupcake and Gus. That is just too cruel. Rohell really dreams of a family and Margarito may end up being his only family, if Sin continues to go down the path she's going. Plus, whether or not Rohell is able to father more children, Margarito is his first son. Come on, he can't let someone else raise him! Rohell should end up raising Margarito with Cupcake and then Gus can find some other nice girl. I don't see Gus pining over the loss of Cupcake forever. He's very good about moving on, as we see with how fast he hooked up with Sin.

Rohell, on the other hand, is a tough, inflexible old turd and I don't think he'd ever, ever get over Cupcake. So I want to see him with the Cupcake and then Gus can have some happy ending with another worthy girl. Wouldn't it be nice if he went back to Boring del Cielo and got with Carmen? In any case, Gus can get a nice girl at the end, kind of like Camillo in LFdD.

No spoilers, BTW, these are just my opinions.

I was shocked and very disappointed by both Sin's and Effer's actions. I hadn't anticipated that Sin would go down that dark road. Effer is bad, but I don't think he'd come up with this evil on his own, he is just doing it to please Sin. Not that it makes it any better, but I don't see him as evil or as cold as Sin.

I always knew that telling David to delay help to Miguel would come back to bite him in the fanny.

I've been wondering whether Sinthia would have gone to the dark side if JS didn't have the medical emergency and they could have shot the original scripts.

Does anyone have an idea what that would have been?

Jardinera: As usual a great recap.

I mean, how lucky can a man get? The richest man in that part of Mexico has two totally incompetent women fighting over who is going to mismanage his money and property.

In Te Sigo Amando, the character that Susan is playing was equally baaaadddd; so in my opinion UA, yes that was the character's path as the writer originally intended it - nothing to do with JS being out.

I love Rogelio, and can't wait for him to kick Gustavo and his stinking attitude out of his house. I am tired of Gustavo walking around there like that is his house.

Jackie: Welcome! I'd say Mercedes is the one who's got the real attitude for a guest there, but you're right. Gus is bull-headed and doesn't act like a guest much at all, come to think of it.

Jardinera, great recap. Appreciate all the vocab.

Rogelio has pointed out to AP that she's idealized Gustavo, but Rogelio himself has idealized Cupcake. He knew she found her "dead" love while she escaped after thinking Rogelio was a murderer. Not many folks in love would just hold hands after finding each other again under such circumstances. Rogelio certainly wouldn't have in his pre-accident days.

Rogelio's puppy eyes work on me too, but dang he pushed AP into marriage when her back was against the wall. Hope he remembers that when it hits the fan.

Great job, Jardinera.

UA: I think you have a real point of Margarito's parentage possibly mitigating the damage of Rogelio's discovery of AP's pregnancy. It will be pretty hard for him to throw stones at AP/Gustavo living in that glass house of his.

I hope that helps AP negotiate the upcoming bump in the road.

Elna June, I've been watching novelas since 1993 and the lack of contraception always bothers me. Especially when the characters are medical professionals who are not married to the people they're boinking. This makes no sense at all.

Fasten your seatbelts tomorrow, everyone!

I think in Mexican TNs there is an idealized approach to conception. First of all, the Catholic Church is against contraception, teaching that conception is "in God's hands and not man's" and that children are a "gift from God". We know that AP is quite religious (although thou shalt not fornicate somehow dropped off her list). I specifically didn't say "adultery" because AP is not to Rogelio married in the eyes of the Church, and as long as they didn't have relations, not considered a marriage. But I suspect premarital sex is considered "OK" if you fully intend to marry and have a family with your partner.

Second, in the case of a young, idealistic woman, "giving herself" entirely to the man she loves, I suspect that somehow, contraception would "spoil the magic" or somehow make the moment less significant or even sordid. So there is more of a fatalistic approach to running the risks of getting pregnant if the encounter is "in the name of love". Now, much less excuse for Gustavo as he is older, and we assume has some sexual experience. I guess in Gustavo's case, he just doesn't think (or bother, more likely!). He was ready to start a family anyway, even though they weren't yet married - and even though Ana Paula wasn't free to marry him immediately!!! They are both so unthinkingly impulsive.

Anyway - the lack of contraception thing doesn't surprise me at all given the cultural perspectives. And of course without that point of view, TNs would have lot fewer plot devices!

Audrey

It just sounds too 50s to me.

"spoil the magic"...I could see AP thinking an airhead thought like that, but sure do agree with the Urban Anthropologist and her points.

Sure it is (too 50s) but the Mexican TNs are amazingly consistent in perpetuating this point of view. Children just seem to "happen" - they are almost never planned. Fate rules. Only occasional lip service is paid to "cuidarse" and it doesn't seem to work half the time.

IMO the main reason the Mexican TNs perpetuate this point of view is that unexpected pregnancy is a major plot device.

Contraception is only used in telenovelas when they want to teach about safe sex (in teen novelas) or when it has relevance to the main plot (Teresa lying to Arturo about not taking her pills in "Teresa"). Since pregnancies are a common plot point, they never mention if the characters used contraception or not so they can bring the subject when it's convenient.

It is extremely rare to find someone who would actively reject the use of contraception for religious reasons nowadays (and at least for the last twenty or thirty years). I'm not saying there isn't someone out there who does that but I've never met anyone who would admit to thinking like that since they would be judged as uneducated by the general population.

Jarocha

You might be shocked to know, Jarocha, that in the US there are people in politics today who voice their opposition to contraception on religious grounds. It perhaps used to be considered "out there" to push such an opinion unless you were a Roman Catholic cleric, but is no longer so unusual.

Gracias, Jarocha. I would find such a cavalier attitude about contraception seriously disturbing these days in view of overpopulation and world hunger.

The Food Network had a program the other day about childhood hunger in the US, which is at a shameful 20%. The program is on their website.

Audrey, these politicians really burn my tail. Their entire agenda is really to control female sexuality. It's a good thing most of them don't speak Spanish or they would be out to censor our programming!

Having once taught in a Catholic school I must chime in and mention that an alarming number of my students became pregnant either before the graduated or very soon after. I was there 5 years and I know of 3 girls that became pregnant. Not to mention three others that graduated before I got there.

I guess ignoring one teaching (premarital sex) is ok, but to ignore two (contraception) would be too risky. lol

PS: of those 20% who are hungry, they are more likely to be Hispanic...but I can't remember if I read that in the Huffington Post or Washington Times.

I need to ask for your assistance here as I would ask that we refrain from bringing in our political points of view. We change nothing and we alienate those who use this site as an escape hatch from the daily grind we all face. Thanks, amigas! : ? )

No problem.

The problem in the story is that even if AP has a miscarriage it's not like she can unring the bell. She's been out of action just long enough for some serious crap to have happened, most of which she couldn't have prevented.

Now that Tia MentiRosa's fingerprints are on the clenbuterol container is there any chance that Skelator will try to frame her for that?

I have to give Dani credit for using contraceptive. Clearly she and Miguel have been intimate in the past as he wasn't flabbergasted by the false rumors of her being pregnant.

Like most close girlfriends, Dani and Cupcake probably talked about contraceptive in the past. When Gustavo and Cupcake got together, they planned to stay together and had not issue with starting a family right away (as colossally foolish as that was).

Niecie, I could be wrong, but I don't think Dani and Miguel have had sex yet. I believe she is still a virgin.

On contraceptives and TN's, it does bother me too that so many women do not use them. I understand the need for unexpected pregnancies for plot lines, but it seems a bit irresponsible of the writers to do this when this is a real issue that many people who watch these programs face. Is contraception a difficult thing to acquire in Mexico?

mHaven't read the comments yet for Friday, but....AP could have the baby and they could tell her the baby died. Or she could have the baby and it gets kidnapped so she can spend the rest of the TN searching for it. We've seen it all before.

Marti

I think there is a big difference between AP getting pregnant while married to Rogelio (actually having an affair under his nose and Rogelio having a child he never knew about from a previous relationship. There is no argument there. There is no "Well you have a child?" You can't condemn me. I don't think so. Only my opinion.

(No spoilers, just my opinion)

I think the source of Rogelio's distress will be more that:

1) NOBODY told him.

2) All of San Gabriel knew that the crippled millionaire guy (who has been such a total douchebag for 7 years) has a pregnant wife and he's no way the daddy. He's going to imaging that they're all laughing behind his back. Humiliation! Oh yeah, that's just the kind of thing that delights Rogelio.

3) That all his love and hopes for Cupcake are dashed (maybe) because she's got a bun in the oven from that blasted novio.

I think that when (if) Rohell can get over the upset, rage, disappointment from the first three things, that he could "forgive" how Cupcake got this particular bun in hte oven, due to the circumstances. Or in other words, do we imagine that had Cupcake had no bun in the oven, and no one knew that she had slept with the novio while married to Rohell, that Rohell would be super upset? As long as she was willing to be with him now? I don't think so. I think he half-suspects that she slept with the long-lost "dead" novio when she flew the coop. (Remember how we were all discussing how he could "feel" something was different about her when she returned?)

So I think it's going to be a combination of humiliation, dashed hopes, and anger that he was the last to know that will do it for him.

" Is contraception a difficult thing to acquire in Mexico?"

No, it's pretty easy to get it and free if you go to hospitals that belong to the state. Contraception is only hard to get for those who live in poor rural areas or those who lack the knowledge of their options to receive help (some of the latter ones also live in the cities).

In Te Sigo Amando, Yulissa and Luis Ángel were stuck in a cabin in the woods during a storm trying to keep each other warm when they had sex and she got pregnant. I don't think they had contraception available then lol. Although, Yulissa was taken out of a Catholic boarding school at 17 to force her to Marry Ignacio, so I don't know how well educated she was to think first about stopping what was going on since they didn't have protection with them.

Jarocha

Aha; well, Ana Paula doesn't have that excuse. And -- as Tia MentiRosa pointed out last week -- she's a nurse and should know better.

Another question: If this baby makes it will its gender matter to Rogelio? We know it won't matter to AP.

Thanks for so many great comments this weekend!

Marti: Welcome! Yeah, we definitely have seen it all before. Amazing how we fall for this stuff tho' no matter how many times it's been. LOL!
