Mundo de Fieras, Wed. Oct. 11

We open with Luisito drowning in the pool while his mother listens to her iPod and reads a magazine oblivious to his cries. In the nick of time, Mariangela comes in and rescues him. Joselyn gives MA a dirty look.

Diana is released from prison on the testimony of Soraya. Gabriel scolds Rogelio for cheating on his wife. Rogelio says that Diana was just an exotic dancer so no big deal. Gabriel says that if you had these scruples, you shouldn’t have married her. Since you did, she is your wife and my daughter in law and you’ll treat her accordingly. Rogelio asks who else knows about Diana’s past and Gabriel says that only he and Nicolas know and they won’t blab.

Joselyn gets rid of MA and then gets Luisito to blame himself for falling into the pool and to promise that he won’t tell his father about it. The kid agrees and apologizes to his manipulative mother.

In one of those jolly scenes among the pobres, some old guy seems to give Leo his car while the home boys approve. Mayeya appears (she left home after the fiancé fiasco). She is looking for an address where she has an job interview and the old guy offers to take her. It also appears that the local lads are planning a surprise party for Leo and the old guy will go get MA to attend.

MA brings Gabriel some coffee while he is standing around grinning like an idiot. He tells her that he has found out that his daughter is engaged. MA is the first person he has told even though he just ate dinner with the rest of his family. He doesn’t know why he told her except that she seems to be a good listener. Then Gabriel notices that MA is feverish. [Extremely rapid onset of a cold from jumping into the pool.] Gabriel insists that she go lie down in her room while he calls the doctor.

Joselyn sees MA coming out of the room where Gabriel is. When MA tells her that she brought coffee to Gabriel, Joselyn is outraged that she was alone with him. She slaps MA and throws her out of the house telling her never to return. As MA walks down the steps of the house, it starts to rain heavily [can pneumonia be far behind?]

In the taxi with the old guy, Mayeya explains that she needs to get this job because she doesn’t want to go back to her pueblo. All of sudden, old guy has a heart attack or something. Mayeya has to take over driving. Somehow she and old guy manage to switch seats. [No mean feat for two normal sized people in a VW bug much less for an obese person.]

Gabriel goes looking for MA to tell her that the doctor is coming. Of course, she isn’t in her room. Looking for her, Gabriel encounters Joselyn who first pretends not to know where MA is, then is outraged that Gabriel went into MA’s room and then admits that she threw MA out. Joselyn is obviously crazy because she is surprised and annoyed when Gabriel goes out after MA.

In Barcelona, JC spends all his savings to buy some piece of jewelry, probably a ring, for Paulina. Meanwhile Karen is hogging the mirror as the half-sisters get ready to go out so that Karen can meet Paulina’s fiancé.

Leo arrives at his surprise party and all the guests throw something like rice on him. He is told that someone has gone to fetch MA to the party.

Gabriel is driving around in the pouring rain looking for MA. Finally he finds her. He tells her that he will protect her, etc. etc. and they kiss. [Thunder crashes – at least wild beasts don’t snarl] MA says that there can’t be anything between them. It’s not right. Gabriel is married. For his part, Gabriel swears that what he feels for MA is sincere and good.

Mayeya crashes Leo’s birthday party to report that she took the old guy to the hospital and he will be all right. Leo and Candelaria invite her to stay at the party but the jealous would-be girlfriend of Leo is not as gracious. Candelaria remembers that the old guy was going to bring MA to the party. Leo says that he will go for her. Meanwhile, Candelaria invites Mayeya to rent a room from her.

Finally, it has stopped raining on MA and Gabriel. Leo arrives and takes MA away.

Karen is not as interested in meeting Paulina’s novio as she appeared because she leaves Paulina to party in downtown Barcelona. At a restaurant, JC again proposes to Paulina very romantically with a diamond ring in a bunch of roses and a cake. She accepts again. They swear their undying love for one another. Since they are engaged, they decide to tell each other their names. Paulina says her name is Paulina Lamp [JC already knew the part about her name being Paulina. He referred to her by name in the jewelry store.] He tells her that his name is Juan Ashtray. [Except for the fact that we know that their family relationship is going to be a problem, it is ridiculous that these two would not tell each other their names.]

Leo brings MA to the party but she is already sick so she immediately goes to bed.

Gabriel yells at Joselyn for throwing MA out of the house and goes to sleep in the guest room.

Paulina and JC get hired to work on the same project – he as an engineer and she as an architect.

Karen has picked up some guy and calls her sister to say that she won’t be joining them for dinner. JC is happy with that – more time for him alone with Paulina.

Leo gives MA medical attention and pronounces her on the mend. He returns to the party while MA tells herself that even though she knows it is wrong, she loves Gabriel. In the guest bedroom, Gabriel is having the same thoughts about MA.

JC and Paulina continue to wander around scenic parts of Barcelona swearing that their love will overcome all obstacles making it certain that they will have problems almost immediately.

Rogelio is nasty to Diana and says that he will never stop reminding her about her past.

Joselyn tells her mother that she will pretend to act like a sane person around Gabriel but she will be pursuing her own plans behind his back.

The next morning, it’s all useful activity amongst the pobres. MA seems to have recovered from her illness and braided her hair in that amazingly elaborate way all by herself. She tells Candelaria that she is going out to find work. On the way out, she encounters Joselyn. Joselyn pretends to apologize for her behavior of the previous evening and ask MA to return to the house especially for Luisito. She then goes to see Gabriel and tells him that she has asked MA to return to the house.

Karen runs into JC on the street and puts the moves on him. He resists feebly and then gets that deer in the headlights look that men in novelas get in the presence of evil women.

Delores is lighting a candle in her cell when she is summoned to see the warden. The warden tells Dolores that her sentence has been reduced for good conduct. She will be released in the morning. She is impactada.

Finally, Karen encounters JC and Paulina together. She tells them that they are first cousins and cannot marry. They are impactados as the credits roll.

[I thought I had read something about cousins marrying so I googled it. See the Discover.com article below. First cousins are permitted to marry in many US states and many countries in the world.

Heridas De Amor, Tuesday October 10th

Squeaky (Renata) has walked in on Fernanda and Gonzalo arguing in Fern's place. She is impactada and faints. When she comes to she wants to know what her dad is doing there; he was about to ask her the same thing. Squeaky says she lives in the house next door. "How quickly your concept of house changes. This is no house," he says offensively, "no offense but it's the truth." Squeaky mouths off that she's not really his daughter so why is he worried? Gonzo tells her it's Florencia who is not his real daughter. Her eyes bug out, impactada twice in one paragraph. He tells her to pack her bags, she's going home with him.

Fabricio is on the phone with mom asking how Sleazar was able sell El Manglar (Mangrove Swamp) when it belongs to her. He says he's going to go to the new owner and try to get the property back. Mom tells him that Sleazar sold the quinta to get enough money to spring Gonzo from jail. Florencia and Nuria confirm they heard this same story from Vicente and Luis Alberto. Nuria says it was sold to Luciano Sartori, the same guy who bought the reserved shares. "NO PUEDE SER!" says Faby. Sleazar walks in and says it's so.

Amparo is setting the table as Squeaky enters, dazed. Amparo tells her to put a wet cloth on her head because she looks feverish. Squeaky wants to wait until Juan comes home. Amparo says it's always the way that "en casa de herrera azadon de palo", the blacksmith's house has to hoe with a stick, i.e. the cobblers children go without shoes. Squeaky is whining so much that Amparo asks her what's up. Squeaky admits seeing her dad next door and he wants to take her home with him. Just then Juan arrives and sees her upset. Then he gets upset, he's way too sensitive, and drags her around the house forcing her to look at their abject poverty. This is all he can offer her while her dad can give her the life of a princess. In the other room Amparo is begging, "Go Renata go, there's still time for you to go before completely destroying my boy's heart, GO GO GO." Juan tells squeaky they've made a big mistake, she should go. Squeaky cries. Amparo keeps her fingers crossed.

Miranda and Pamela are cleaning up after a hard day's work. Hey, weren't they already clean at the pozole feast? Well I guess they need this bathtub scene so here we go...Miranda and Pamela are getting into their respective and separate baths but still within shouting distance. Pamela asks if Alejandro was proposing something to Miranda earlier that evening. Miranda says he asked if they could make love and she almost accepted. What stopped her? Everything and nothing, but next time she won't refuse.

She is now in the steaming tub and we can see her reflection in the mirror. She gets all dreamy as she sponges water on herself. She thinks she's talking to Pamela but suddenly Alejandro's hand takes the sponge and he begins washing her. He tells her how much she means to him, she is his whole universe. They kiss and kiss some more. "Miranda, Miranda!" It's Pamela, waking her up out of her sexy fantasy. Miranda gasps, then laughs, then plays around some more with her sponge, embarrassed because Pamela says she knows she was thinking of Alejandro. We don't get to see Pamela in her tub, sorry Chris.

Down in the library the brothers Beltrán Campuzano aren't fighting for once. Instead they are drowining their sorrows. Sleazar tells Faby that Alejandro only used him to get close to Gonzo in order to seek vengeance. Faby says little by little Alejandro used him to get all sorts of info that could be used against Gonzalo. Sleazar says they have to do something, he sold their family quinta to help Gonza and to prove his own innocence, never thinking the property would end up in Al's hands. He's SO sorry he says, weeping crocodile tears. Faby, who until this moment has loathed his brother for his wickedness and bad sonmanship, has suddenly been suckered in by his lies. "Don't worry brother," he stupidly says, "one important thing, Miranda is going to hear about all of this." "Not so fast," warns Sleazar, "First let's put on a good show. Telling Miranda will be the coup de grace, then he'll disappear from our lives forever." They shake hands, slap each other on the back and during the man hug Sleazar smirks behind Faby's back. Fab says "Nothing is going to separate us Cesar." Sucker.

Amparo consoles Juan as Squeaky walks by with bags packed. She sobs "I don't want to go Juan. I love you and want to stay with you. Please don't kick me out, this is the only house I have." They embrace and Amparo nods her approval, tears in her eyes. She says "yes, it's poor, very poor, but it's your house." Group hugs all around. These people sure change their minds easily!

Cesar surprises Nuria with a Mundo de Fieras kiss. "Ouch, that hurts!" she cries, rubbing her lip. Sleazar says, "if it doesn't hurt it doesn't mean anything." Nuria has something weird to tell him, she feels like she's been in this hacienda before, many places are familiar. "In fact," (picks up old ratty doll) "here is the very doll I have seen in my dreams" she says. "What do you think? Could I have lived here in another life?" Sleazar tells her it's impossible and as a show of compassion throws the doll in her face.

Fernanda convinces Gonzalo to let Squeaky live her own life and he reluctantly agrees. She runs right over to Squeaky's house and proudly tells her she convinced her father to leave her alone. Squeaky squeaks that she doesn't need the Dr.'s help and now she knows that what her aunt Bertha said is true, that Fernanda is her dad's lover!

Miranda and Pamela are again dressed in their high fashion peasant outfits and Miranda's has a built-in pushup bra. Arcadia tells them that during the night all the bags of cacao were stolen. Miranda and Pamela are indignant and beautiful.

We are in Tapijulapa, Tabasco. Al is in a cantina with Gabino and orders a double tequila. A mystery man calls him "blondie" and asks if he's from Santa Maria. How does he know? In this town everybody knows everything. Since he knows so much Al offers to pay him for information on the cacao robberies. The mystery man says such questions could get Al killed. He walks off. Gabino tells Al this guy "El Guapo" is dangerous and should be avoided.

Al approaches him again. We now see El Guapo has a withered hand which may be the cause of his crankiness. Al tells him to name his price. El Guapo tells Al to keep his money. (He says "no le busques ruido al chicharron", anyone know what that saying means?) He says behind all of this is a Very Important Person and he can't tell Al anything about HER. Oops. Aha, Alejandro knows it's a woman! El Guapo clumsily draws his gun and aims at Al's head. Gabino draws his own gun and aims it at El Guapo. I think we all know what this is called. Finally Al convinces El Guapo to lower his gun and they leave. Guapo dials his cell phone..."Miss Bertha, Guapo here, we have a problem."

Chicharron update: literally means "don't go looking for the noise the breaking of the chicharron makes" i.e. "don't push me till I crack" or "don't provoke me."

Arcadia tells Miranda that the thieves are now stealing them blind on the other side of the river. Miranda jumps on a horse and off she rides just as Alejandro and Gabino return. Al grabs another horse and follows. Because Miranda is yelling at the top of her lungs long before she gets to the river the thieves are warned and make their escape. Nice job big mouth. She's sobbing into her empty cacao pods as Al rides up to console her. He looks mighty fine in bluejeans but he's no Fernando on a saddle. Nevertheless she loves him, sobbing that she has lost everything except him. If she loses him she'll die and so on and so forth. They get right to the kissing and lots of it, even the horse tries to get in on the action. Really. I'm not making that up.

Back at the hacienda Al continues to console Miranda. Fabricio bursts in and asks them do they know that Luciano Sartori bought El Mangrove Swamp from Cesar? "You know him?" asks Miranda. "Yes," Faby accuses, "and so does Alejandro!"

"NO PUEDE SER!" cries the shocked Miranda. But Pamela saves Alejandro by running interference, saying they have too many other things to worry about at the moment. After they leave Al and Faby get into a shoving match. Faby says he doesn't appreciate being used for Al's plans of vengeance. Chest thumping, arm twisting, and scowls fill the room.

Miranda and Pamela spread the cheer to Flor and Nuria that the cacao has been stolen, they have lost everything. Flor gets philosophical, saying there is a solution for everything...except death. She confronts it day after day and she's winning the battle. Even when Florencia is right she's so holier-than-thou in her delivery that I just want to slap her! Miranda is inspired by Flor's insipid resolve. She promises to face whatever comes her way.

El Guapo is at the cantina with two cronies. All three of their hats look brand spanking new. The cronies tell Guapo that they were able to sell all the cacao and tools at the market. Nobody suspects a thing and they are perfectly clean. (Especially their hats.) They want more work but Guapo says do nothing until they receive further instructions from Miss Bertha. I wonder how she'd feel about him throwing her name around like that? In the meantime they are to spy on Santa Maria and report all comings and goings to him.

Al throws Fabricio down. Fab says he doesn't appreciate being the imbecile that Alejandro used to get back at Gonzo. Ha, his word not mine. Al says it was only at first, now he thinks of Fab as a brother. More of the same blah, blah, blah.

Amparo is caring for Squeaky who has chills and fever. Squeaky sleeps while Francisco and Amparo talk loudly in her room. He wants Amparo to sell tacos but Amparo says she can't leave Sqeaky home alone and sick. Guess they're best buds now. Francisco looks at her sleeping and say his grandchildren will be beautiful, tantrum-throwers but beautiful.

While Squeaky is sleeping Carola swaggers into the room and wakes her. "Feeling bad Princess? I came for Juan's things." Squeaky tells her to get out of her house. Carola jumps on the bed, says it's not Squeaky's house, and tries to drag her out. They fight and Carola says a witch like Squeaky belongs on the street. She adds, "Juan doesn't love you. Do you know why he married you? We had a bet and I lost. Can you imagine what the prize was? My body! Juan has always wanted me." Squeaky cries, "No, no, he loves me!" Amparo comes in; Carola wasn't real, only Squeaky's delirium. Amparo puts cold cloths on her feet.

Vicente tells Gonzo that the entire harvest was lost even though Miranda did everything she could. The first crop of the year was completely lost and bad guys destroyed the telephone lines. The hacienda is in the same sorry state as the business.

Florencia flashes back to a green memory with Squeaky saying Miranda could save the business by marrying Alejandro. Flor tells Miranda that the hacienda and business have reached a critical state. They need to find a solution and fast. Flor says the only option is for Miranda to marry Alejandro. She says this like she's helping out, but she has a really mean look in her eyes. Or maybe she just always look mean. Or maybe she thinks if Miranda is married then she possibly won't be a threat to her husband. Or maybe I should just go to bed now.

La Fea Más Bella #121 10/10/06 Too much soccer and lots of nice kisses

I didn't have a tape, so this is on the fly.

It seems the company Fern and Lety crossed the Atlantic to deal with has already pretty much decided to go with some competitor. Fern says: in order not to have wasted the plane flight, let's have some fun. He wants to take Lety to the Big Game.

They visit a building with a giant stone-ball-rolling-in-water sculpture out front (Fern tries to impress Lety with his understanding of the mechanics of this sculpture but she ignores his pseudo-scientific explanation). They meet up with two tv "color" announcers who compete to see who will give Fern tickets to the game. Don Eugenio, Omar Chaparro, Don Corleone (isn't he in the Mafia?), and Toño de Valdes are mentioned.

While these two announcers are joshing with Fern and Lety - they've taken to her - Fern gets a cellphone call from Marcia. He lies and says he's in his club back in Mexico. "But that sounds like Omar Chaparro and Toño de Valdes," she astutely accuses. He says, "Oh, it's just the tv," and the guys pretend they're doing game announcing as Fern holds the phone up to them. Marcia closes: "I'll call when you're less busy." As Fern and Lety depart, the famous guys leer a bit and say: "Enjoy your forbidden love!" Heh.

Fern tells Lety: "There are no hotel rooms in Hannover." "Ay, Don Fernando, how can such a big city have no hotels?" He explains, it's that they're all booked - they'll have to stay in Munich and just go to Hannover for the day.

They walk along the highway and have a picnic. Lety tells him how mean Alicia is to the cuartel, and she sticks her nose into everything. He says: "I know she's incompetent, but she isn't that bad, I can't run her off, there'd be trouble with Marcia." Lety says Alicia is like a daughter of Minerva and Zeus. This reference goes right over Fernando's head as it goes over mine.

But Julie had the answer: "Regarding Minerva and Zeus: Minerva was Zeus's favorite daughter. Someone had hit him with an axe, and she sprang out the resulting wound, fully formed and wearing a suit of armor."

Meanwhile, Omar is in trouble with Marcia for spending so much time trying to get tickets (for Fern) to the BIG SOCCER GAME MEXICO VS ANGOLA which is taking place the next day in Hannover. She says he's unprofessional. He calls Fernando to say, no luck with the tickets, but Fern gloats because he's got tickets already! Omar says: "Your little gargoyle brings you luck! It's the luck of those who don't bathe!"

When Alicia asks Marcia: "Why do you still want to marry Fern?" Marcia muses: "Sometimes I think it's just for vengeance."

There's lots of boogying in the street in Munich. Luigi looks adorable dressed in green.

Lety and Fern are all relaxed and affectionate and she gets lots of kisses. He says, "All the grief of the trip was worth it now, just to see you so happy." A particularly good kiss is interrupted by a cellphone call from Omar, who tries to talk to them in German. Lety hauls out the dictionary and it turns out he's saying: "We're right in front of you!" Yes, Luigi and Marcia are having Omar take their picture at some monument and Omar, looking past them as they preen for the camera, sees Fern and Lety, clearly visible smooching in the background. Omar's talking faux German on the phone so Marcia and Luigi won't understand he's telling Fern: "Run for the hills!"

Lety panics and skitters off, thinking Fern is following. Fern tells Omar to take Marcia and Luigi off to a hotel. Then he notices Lety is lost.

Lety wanders the streets and ends up at the train station, hoping Fern will find her. She cries and sits on a bench. And sits. And sits. Meanwhile, Fern hopes she will find her way back to the hotel, but she doesn't remember its name. He asks the receptionist in his utterly adorable English: "Have you seen a short woman with glasses and a moustache and hair like a lemon?" "No."

UPDATE:A reader explains hair like a lemon: "I was watching with my mother-in-law, who is from Mexico, and she started laughing when Fernando said Lety's hair looked like a lemon. She explained that they used to use lemon juice to smooth and straighten their hair when she was younger. She called it a kind of Mexican hairspray and said that might be how Lety achieves her signature plastered hairstyle. I hope that helps!"

He gets Omar to come to his hotel lobby and Omar asks, "Why are you so worried? The way she looks, nobody will bother her. Let's have some schnapps (the subtitles said 'snacks')!" Fern is way too upset for that. Omar taunts, "This looks like L-O-V-E!"

Fern hails a taxi and combs the city unsuccessfully. The next morning - while he is sitting, despondent, outside his hotel - it suddenly occurs to him to try the train station. He runs over there (very cute in his sneakers) and finds Lety asleep on her bench. He smiles hugely in relief, scooches next to her with a sweet smile, touches her head and wakens her with a kiss. Lots of hugs! She says: "I felt so alone - I don't know any German." "Lety, I would have died if I hadn't found you - I felt so bad!" "You were really worried?" "You have no idea how much." Really sweet kisses, sigh.

At the game in Hannover - "Lety, don't dance provocatively, you're making me jealous!" Lots of shots of Mexicans celebrating in the street. Fern and Lety: Dance, Kiss, Honk on Horns, Repeat. Lots of name-dropping.

Soccer stuff. The cuartel organizes a tv-watching party with lots of food and they get SO excited when some guy shows up with green shirts! See, this is what you get in a cheery novela in which nobody gets murdered! Green shirts! One guy puts his green shirt on top of his head! Pretty good, eh? Simon is sent up on the roof to fix the antenna and he's just standing up there holding it up, miserably listening to others roar as Mexico scores a goal.

Alicia dresses in one of her usual breast-thrusting outfits (the hydraulic engineering on those bras must be spectacular) and goes to an expensive restaurant, hoping to get a rich guy to buy her dinner, but all the rich guys just want to watch the game. She ends up with nobody to pay her bill. "Are you going to make me wash dishes? I'll break my nails, oh, my poor little hands!..."

Tomas brings his big tv (it's not really that big) over to Lety's house - he and Julieta plan to watch the game together the next day. Erasmo throws him out and tells Julieta to come to bed, but she wants to watch tv. They watch an old movie about losing a child and dissolve in tears, worrying about Lety and dreaming about her future - maybe she'll marry in white. Erasmo is enthusiastic about grandkids running around the place. The next day Tomas and Julieta watch the game, chanting loudly and bouncing around. Erasmo tries to read the paper but ends up getting drawn into the excitement.

Marcia has been calling Fern's home number over and over, and getting no response. She is always complaining on the phone to Alicia who says, "I hate to put fuel on the fire [sure you do], but he's probably out with his lover."

Next day, Marcia, Omar and Luigi are in a sports bar or lobby. The BIG GAME is on and Omar is watching but Marcia and Luigi, once more, have their backs to the action. Luigi is explaining that HE likes football cause the players are so sexy and have such great glutes. Over their heads, Omar sees on the tv a big juicy shot of Fern and Lety in the stadium.

Again Julie has an apt comment: "There was a remarkable coincidence of timing that prevented everyone except Omar from seeing Fern and Lety on TV. Erasmo stood in front of the TV at that moment to argue with Julieta and Tomas, and there were TV reception problems at Lola's place."

Will Marcia discover Fernando has been lying, lying, and lying some more?
Will she run into him in Munich?
Will Mexico win the BIG GAME against Angola?
Will Simon fall off the roof?

HERIDAS DE AMOR - Monday, 10/09/06

When Cesar realizes that he has actually sold his hacienda to Alejandro Luque and that Luciano Sartori was nothing more than the intermediary, he becomes enraged. He throws his glass at the wall and breaks it, then starts knocking over vases and ripping up artwork (so-called) on the walls. He walks along the hallway tapping this huge jagged-edged Japanese(?) sword menacingly and then he starts tapping the sword menacingly on the table in front of Alejandro’s naive little sister, Lizania, as she looks on in horror at all of this. (My apologies to Lynyrd Skynyrd, but “Give me three steps, give me three steps, Mister! .....Give me three steps to your door.....and you won’t see me no more!” just kept going through my mind. Now I am convinced Lizania is dense as well as naive and has no sense of self-preservation.) Finally he throws the dagger away. (Shooh!) He yells that her damned brother was just as two-faced as he’d told her he was, and Alejandro enjoys hitting below the belt, and how he’s tricked him into selling off his inheritance, the ranch, the only thing he had left from his father! (Right! “Cry me a river” started playing in my brain; must be the night for golden oldies.) Liz comes over to comfort Cesar saying Alejandro can’t go running over people like that. She’ll make sure Alejandro returns it to him. (Yep, naive and dense.)

Alejandro tells Daira that he’s uneasy about Miranda for some unknown reason. Daira assures him that she’ll be fine with so many people there around her at the hacienda. He decides to wait until the next day to fly over and check up on her. He’ll fly back immediately as long as she’s ok.

Florencia gives her husband the news about Juan and Renata eloping. Later he tells her that he has been asked to submit a design for his company to an international competition and that he might have to travel because of it. She throws a tantrum and tells Fabricio that she refuses to let him go and just abandon her. She refuses to be left abandoned "like Nuria!"

Miranda and Pamela are dragging bags around and raking over the harvested cocoa beans (in the most beautiful peasant outfits and ribboned sandals! Why not sensible shoes and jeans like Gabino?) when Arcadia comes to tell Miranda that part of the crop is infested and has to be destroyed. She sends Gabino off to get pesticides, but the phones are still out and the other plantation owners cannot be gotten a hold of yet.

Florencia apologizes to Fabricio and says she wants him to enter the competition. It was selfish of her to demand anything else. Nuria brings them in breakfast and leaves. (She enjoys cooking.)

Fernanda comes to visit Amparo and to ask Renata over for lunch and some conversation. She is so excited by the thought of finally getting to know her daughter better. Renata appears and Fernanda tells her she came by to say hello, but the other of the two faces of Renata reappears. She starts acting snide and snippy and answers, “Well then, “Hi and Good-bye!” She then gets angry to find that Fernanda already told Florencia about her and Juan getting married when her sister had called earlier asking about Juan’s coming back to help with her therapy. She tells the two of them that she’s been nice for Juan’s sake, but nothing more. She isn’t the least bit interested in those women and she tells Fernanda to for-get-it! Just as abruptly the girl walks out of the apartment and Fernanda begins to cry (talk about your “sainted mother”) on Amparo’s shoulder when Ramon and Francisco come back. Francisco wants to know what just happened.

At the same time Julio and Cesar are discussing strategy and where to open up offices. Julio tells him that he’s been sweetening the pot in order to get the old clients to come over to their new investment house. Cesar wants to make sure none of those clients stick with Gonzalo.

Fernanda apologizes to Francisco and Ramon for the emotional display. They all blame Renata’s behavior on her father. Ramon says the girls need to know what kind of a man their father really is, and he accidentally lets slip that he knows all about how Gonzalo has run her off from each hospital and teaching position she’s had during the years. Fernanda says she doesn't seem to know as much as he does about her past. After Fernanda leaves Francisco demands to know why and how he knows so many things about Fernanda’s personal history. When Ramon decides to tell them both the truth about his job and how much he’s grown to love the family and to feel a part of them, Amparo and Francisco reject Ramon's apology and throw him out. They want nothing more to do with him.

Fernanda visits Santiago at the church and he tells her it is time to tell Gonzalo the whole truth about what happened back then and what led up to that night he ran her off.

Erika and Renata meet Veronica for lunch. They forgive her for the problems she caused over the bet about Juan. Renata says it was a test of her marriage and was glad that it happened. (This novela is chock full of naive and ditzy females!) So then Veronica says she’s going out that day to look for her casket, but before she dies she’s going to make sure everybody pays for what they did to her. Erika asks Veronica to try to think of who could have infected her with AIDS and she whips out a list of every boy at the country club that she’s had sex with (and it is a long one).

Juan is offered an assistantship with Dr. Cohen, his boss. He gets a raise in salary and is also to be teaching an anatomy class at the university.

Alejandro arrives at the cocoa plantation and Miranda is relieved to see him. She graciously (for once) accepts his offer to help with the pesticides and to stick around for her.

Gonzalo is remembering Tomasa’s dying words in his office later that day. Fernanda arrives but he refuses to talk to her. Just then the phone rings and it’s Florencia calling to tell him she missed him and needed to tell him how much she loves him and how great God was to give him to her as her father. The irony of this remark is not lost on Gonazalo. After they hang up, Gonzalo reluctantly agrees to meet Fernanda at her place that evening to discuss things.

Nuria and Florencia are beginning to warm up to each other and so Florencia asks Nuria to tell her about the other side of her father, the business side.

Daira gets hold of Renata on her cell and asks her to come over to chat so she and Erika drop by. They tell Daira that they have no idea who Lizania is hanging out with. They tell her that certainly she couldn’t have a boyfriend so soon since she was so broken hearted over Raul not so long ago. Just then, Lizania arrives and the girls try to get her to open up to them, but she’s too sly. Then Liz mentions something about is it true Juan and she got married. Renata answers, “Yeah, but hey, how did you find out?” (Lizania will have to think fast to give her an answer.)

At the hacienda Florencia informs Fabricio that Rebeca just told her his brother sold “The Manglars”.

That night the workers are singing or playing their guitars and chatting after a long, hard day spraying, picking and burning. Alejandro and Miranda pass through them all and thank them profusely for all their hard work. The two of them sit down and begin to kiss. He does not want to return to Mexico and to be without her. She says once they get back to Mexico in a few days they will immediately get married . Alejandro tells Miranda he is anxious to have her wake up at his side every morning and in fact, he doesn’t want to wait any longer for her to share his bed.

Gonzalo arrives at Fernanda’s. He remarks he can’t believe the miserable situation she is living in. (Sorry? I thought she was doing quite nicely in that middle class neighborhood, thankyou.) He suggests they go out to dinner to discuss things. It makes him nervous to see her waiting on him with coffee. Besides, he wants something stronger to drink than coffee. Fernanda goes back into the kitchen to get something and Renata walks right on in to Fernanda’s place without even knocking. She looks up and sees her father walking towards her. Just as Renata asks him what he’s doing there she faints.

La Fea Más Bella #120 10/9/06 What's up with Lety?

We enter the scene still on the plane with a very sober Fernando and a very, very drunk Lety. (Very different then the usual no?) Fernando is a more than a little annoyed. Lety comments that no else on the plane seems to be afraid. Fernando points out that he isn’t either. Lety first says she wants to either to sleep or that she wants to sleep with him right then and there in order to relax. (Still can’t wrap my head around the verb acostarse – the devil in me hopes she meant the latter) Fernando tells her to be a little more quiet and the shush each other. Lety changes conversation and decides she needs to go to the bathroom. “Is there one here?” Fernando tells her that of course there is, and tries to point it out to her. She can’t get out of her seat because of her seatbelt. Fernando releases her seatbelt and then decides to take her to the bathroom. Lety asks if the plane is moving, Fernando tells her that it’s just the alcohol. He tells her to follow the pathway, but Lety stumbles into the lap of a man from Nigeria who asks if she’s okay. She says she can’t understand him because they’re speaking English. She manages to ask him if he’s a professor. Fernando apologizes (Gotta love the accent… sigh…. back to work… sigh… okay really how sexy was that?). After about fifteen apologies, Fernando urges her back to the bathroom and right when they get to the end of the aisle, she passes out. He wakes her up with some light taps on the head. He pushes her toward the bathroom.

Back in Mexico City, Julieta wants Erasmo to tell her something. He says that since she keeps insisting he’ll tell her where he would like to take a trip. He would like to go to Greece to see the ruins. Julieta wants to go to Venice. It’s so romantic. She can imagine riding in a gondola in the canals with a gondolier serenading them.

Lety and Fernando arrive in Germany. Lety asks Fernando what time it is in Mexico. He says that it is three. They’re six hours ahead. She doesn’t feel good. Fernando says she’s suffering jet lag. Huh? she replies. Fernando tells her that he has to go to the counter to check them in. He goes up to the woman at the counter and says he’s there for the Fernando Mendiola’s reservation. He glances back at Lety and tells the clerk that he needs “one second.” He asks Lety what’s up. Lety’s happy they’re in Germany together. In Germany! Fernando tries to help Lety pronounce the name of the hotel, but she just can’t seem to get it. After a few times he tells her that she has it perfect. (Why do I have a feeling that this is going to back to bite him in the butt?) He gets the keys from the front desk and asks where are the elevators. The clerk points him and he tells Lety its time to go. She tells the clerk thank you in German and the clerk replies “bye, bye” in English. Lety giggles.

Erasmo pulls out a map of Europe. He and Julieta look at Munich. Julieta is happy because that Lety is there. Erasmo comments how far away Munich is from them. Julieta asks him where Venice is. He points it out. It’s in Northern Italy. She would love to be there. Julieta says that she dreamed all night that they were in a gondola. Erasmo says she needs to stop thinking about it so much. Julieta replies that she knows they’ll never go; she asks Erasmo to let her hope.

Fernando waits outside of the hotel room for Lety. She asks him if he’s drinking in the German air. They breath in and out. Fernando says he’s not used to first world air.

Erasmo says they should pretend that they’re in Venice. Julieta thinks that is a great idea. Erasmo starts a CD with Italian music. Julieta gets the idea to lights some candles. Erasmo calls her over to dance. They dance in circles. Julieta asks how much a trip to Venice would cost. Erasmo eyes get really big.

Lety tries to calm Fernando about the meeting they’re about to enter. They both know that it could get rid of all the debts of Conceptos. He would be able to tell his parents that Conceptos is not in debt. Nothing would make him happier. The lady from the company arrives. She speaks German. Fernando tries English. The lady just smiles. Lety whips out her dictionary. She translates that the lady said that she liked them a lot. Fernando hugs Lety and then the lady. The lady says something else. Fernando thinks she says that she really likes Conceptos. Lety looks in her dictionary. The lady actually said that they’re going to sign with a different production company tomorrow. Fernando grabs Lety’s dictionary and then looks upset.

Fernando is mad because he spent all this money, took all this effort and all this time to come over here and they signed with another company. It’s just not fair! Conceptos is the best production house in Mexico. He makes fun of the fact that she called the company Concept instead of Conceptos. The woman looks on with a blank square. Lety tells Fernando to calm down. The lady looks down and then responds back in Spanish. Fernando realizes that the woman understood everything he said. Lety says that they have to return to Mexico with empty hands. He tells her to take his phone and call the airport. She says okay and that she’ll fix everything so they can return. No, wait! Fernando has a better idea. Mexico plays Angola tomorrow morning in Hanover, Germany. We’re not here to watch soccer Lety tells him. Fernando does a strange little cheer to convince her to stay in Germany. He goes so low to play on her fear of flying back over the Atlantic. He does a little cheer for the team very quietly.

Erasmo says that they would have to go to Venice in a plane. Julieta asks why he’s talking like that. They’re only playing a game. Erasmo continues his game and says that they would have to fly over the Atlantic in order to save time. Julieta decides to play along and says she would rather take more time and go by boat. He protests; what if they got caught in a hurricane or storm. Julieta says she wants to go in the Titanic. Erasmo lets go of her and says he’s going to check prices to go to Venice.

Lola and PM hang out at Lola’s place. They’re very happy that Fernando gave them the day off from work. Saimon and Celso come to her place. They make a lot of noise. Saimon jumps on PM Lola thinks that Celso looks nice out of his uniform; every time that she sees him out of uniform she thinks he’s someone else. Lola teases Saimon. Celso declares that Mexico is going to win. Lola says she’s going to call the cuartel to have a party. Saimon says they all should unite and cheer Mexico because they’re going to win. Who are we playing, Lola asks? Who cares; we’re going to win!, Saimon says. Lola says she’s going to call Lety. PM begs that she doesn’t. She adores Lety but she doesn’t want Don Erasmo to find out about the party. Saimon says that if Erasmo comes he may bring his music. PM thinks Erasmo will yell at her if she give Saimon even a little kiss. Lola decides to call Irmita instead.

Fernando says they’re staying to see the game, punto. Lety says they should return, but she does regret going to only one place and then returning to Mexico. Fernando protests. We can’t be in Germany all the time, plus we’re close to Madrid. Lety points out that it’s good that they’re together. Fernando agrees, but he focuses on soccer. Fernando thinks they should take a train to Hanover, to the game. Lety says they’re a little problem. Fernando worries that she’s afraid of trains; he doesn’t want to give her more tequila. Lety says that here they drink beers, not tequila. She says no that she’s not afraid of trains, but have you bought any tickets for the game yet? Fernando looks worried.

Marcia, Omar and Luigi hang out at an outdoor café. Luigi goes on about his idea about the commercial. He thinks that the athletes they use should be in the principle square of Munich, where they are right now. Omar sarcastically replies that it’s a good idea. Luigi continues, but Omar’s cell rings. Luigi tells him to go off and answer his phone. Fernando tells him that if Marcia is with him not to say his name. Omar speaks in really bad German. Fernando tells Omar that he’s in Munich with Lety. Omar reverts to Spanish and has to make the excuse to Marcia that he’s talking to someone that he taught Spanish. Omar walks off and asks why Fernando is in Munich in Lety. (Marcia and Luigi comment that he’s all of a sudden acting very nervous.) Omar asks what Fernando is doing in Munich with Lety. Fernando says that’s not important but he wants Omar to get him two tickets to the world cup game against Hanover. Omar says this will be impossible. Not for you, Fernando responds. This is an order. Luigi and Marcia go on about Fernando and how he is up to no good.

Erasmo says that they can be in Venice in twelve hours. Julieta says that she wants to go in a boat, the Queen Mary II. Erasmo says they’ll go by plane. First to New York. It will take six days by boat to England. Then they’ll need another plane from England to Venice. It’s a very complicated trip. Julieta wonders what it would be like the two of them on the ocean for six days, in the middle of the Atlantic, with waiters serving them. Erasmo says they’re going in a plane, period. The door bell rings. Tomas enters with a TV. Julieta says that a cruise is very romantic. Erasmo points out that it would be very expensive. He asks Tomas what he’s doing with the TV.

Fernando tells Lety to get rid of her sour face. She says that she doesn’t have another. He wants to know why she is mad. She’s just really confused from the change in time. She doesn’t know if its time to eat breakfast or lunch. Fernando says that’s perfectly logical. It’s not easy to switch time zones. They can have a rich coffee. Lety says he never should have taken her from Mexico. Besides, she’s not crazy about soccer. She wants to get back to Mexico as soon as possible. Fernando points out that she agreed to go to the game in Hanover earlier. Her says that Omar is looking for tickets right now. She calls Fernando’s desire to get tickets the game a dream. Everyone wants these tickets. She implores that they return to Mexico.

The cuartel, minus Lety, come over to Lola’s apartment. They were unable to obtain any green shirts. Saimon tries to point out the importance of watching the game with the green shirts. Celso doesn’t care about the shirts. He wants to watch. Saimon continues to promote the importance of the green shirts. (jerseys)

Julieta and Erasmo go on about their trip. Julieta wants a boat; Erasmo a plane. Julieta explains to Tomas that they’re imagining of a trip to Venice. Tomas agrees with the cruise. Erasmo negates this idea. Julieta says they shouldn’t play anymore now that Tomas is in there house. He asks Tomas again why he has the TV. Tomas avoids the question by complaining about his back. He eventually explains that his mom won’t let him watch the soccer game in his house. Erasmo can’t believe Tomas wants to watch it in his house. Julieta winks.

Lety is still sad. Fernando wants to know what’s wrong. He doesn’t understand why she doesn’t want to tell him her thoughts. She says she’s worried that Marcia will catch them if they go to the soccer game. Fernando giggles and tells Lety that he adores her. They kiss. Separate. Smile. Kiss some more.

Luigi checks out the scenery in the square. It’s splendid. He imagines his commercial with all the players on the team coming out of one end of the square. Marcia asks Omar for his opinion. He’s dialing on his phone. He tells Marcia that he’s calling his friend about the tickets. Luigi dances, commenting on Omar’s flavor of the week of a girlfriend. Omar talks about how he’s crazy for this girl. Omar walks off with his phone. Marcia doesn’t believe a thing that Omar says. Luigi wants to know why is lying. He’s acting strange… like Fernando. (Luigi is waaaayyy too perceptive). Really? Marcia insinuates. He’s in Mexico, points out Luigi. She says that the two of them are capable of anything. Luigi decides he’ll investigate and follows Omar.

Fernando and Lety stroll on a path. He spies some man who can get them tickets to the game. Apparently this man is a famous sportscaster (Eugenio). Fernando interrupts his sports cast. The sportscaster is more than a little upset. Fernando tries to pull a name game. He introduces himself as Fernando Mendiola, president of Mexico. The sportscaster makes fun of him. Lety explains that Fernando wants to see the game. Eugenio plays on the word “partido” and asks Fernando why he’s talking about politics. Fernando says he’s talking about the soccer game. Eugenio says that Fernando can’t get in because the type of shampoo he uses. Lety steps in and explains their situation. Eugenio plays on words some more. Fernando implores some more. The cameraman asks Fernando to leave so they can finish. Fernando begs for one minute. They time him and he spits out what he wants. They tease Fernando and Lety for being two Mexicans in Munich without tickets. Lety steps in again. Eugenio is impressed because she’s so respectful (she calls him Don Eugenio) takes off his glasses and talks to her in his real voice. He asks her name and teases her about her last name. Eugenio says he’s going to give them tickets, but they have to go with someone. With you? Do you always do things like this for women that you don’t know? Fernando interjects. Lety and Eugenio hush him.

Omar calls someone for two tickets to the World Cup game. Luigi hides between a pineapple. He’s mad because Omar is going to leave him and Marcia to go watch the game. Omar goes on, but we can’t hear him.

Erasmo wants to know why Tomas has to watch the game at his house, if his own mother won’t let him watch it in her house. Erasmo tells Tomas that he doesn’t want him there and that he needs to leave. Tomas begs. Julieta asks Erasmo to allow Tomas to watch the game at their house. Erasmo asks who’s going to pay for the electric to power the television. Tomas points out that Erasmo is talking to the boss of Filmo Imagen. Yeah, the boss who is on the computer all day. Tomas begs some more and says he’ll pay for the electric for the TV besides it will only be like two hours. That’s not a lot of electric. Julieta says she wants to watch too. Erasmo looks shocked. Julieta winks.

Luigi returns to Marcia. He says that she won’t believe him. Omar is trying to get tickets to the game in Hanover tomorrow. Marcia says that he can’t leave them to do the commercial alone. I know! Luigi points out how irresponsible Omar is acting.

Martha is worried about the food. Lola says this shouldn’t be the only thing that preoccupies her. PM agrees with Martha. Martha points out all the foods that would be good to prepare. The cuartel has to calm her. Lola proposes that they make something simple. The doorbell rings and all the little ones enter with Martha’s husband. PM’s son doesn’t want to go to school. She tells him that he has to go. Saimon stands up and says that they women have taken care of the food. He goes on another tangent about the green shirts. Martha’s husband agrees and says they’re can’t be a game without the green shirts. (I’m assuming these would be Mexican soccer jerseys).

Luigi goes on about how he’s not going to permit lack of professionalism. Omar approaches. Marcia confronts him about Hanover. Luigi wants to know if a mouse ate his speech. Omar insists that the tickets are for one of his girlfriends. Marcia points out how unprofessional he’s being. Omar says he didn’t think that it would be for that much time and wouldn’t be a problem. Marcia asks if he likes Claudia so much, why doesn’t he bring her here. Omar says she’s a lover of Mexican culture. Marcia stalks off and says that Omar will go to Hanover over her dead body. Luigi confirms. Omar complains about the problems Fernando has created.
Lety and Fernando go on about the floating soccer ball statue. Fernando explains that it’s powered completely by water. Some guy comes out and great him. They match the descriptions that he was given. After some discussion Lety points out to Fernando that the reason that they’re there is to get the tickets to the game. Fernando says they were helped by someone to get tickets to tomorrow’s game. The man tells them no problem.. Fernando is jealous about Lety and Eugenio. He thinks that Lety is too familiar with “Don” Eugenio. They run into someone else famous, Antonio Valdez. The two men argue over who got the tickets for Lety and Fernando. Fernando tries to interrupt, but they say that they need a minute. Marcia calls Fernando. He tells that he’s in the club, of course. Marcia asks about who is with him.

Will Fernando and Lety be caught?
Are they going to make it to the game in time?
Is Lety going to chill out about Marcia?

Have a great night everyone!

Mundo de Fieras summary, October 9

  • Mariangela gets hysterical upon seeing her mother's empty hospital bed. Clemente reassures her: "Your ma has been taken to a special clinic." He asks a bunch of times: "Do you want to know who your father is?" Any half-way sentient daughter would figure it out, but the script requires her to be dense, so she says, "No, he abandoned us, why should I care who he is?" Clemente drives her to the new clinic - Aurora doesn't recognize either of them.

  • The police take Rogelio away after making him admit the dead woman (Raquel) was his lover. Karen hears this and wastes no time spreading the delicious gossip. Joselyn tells Diana, "It's all for the best, it's lucky your rival is dead."

Gabriel and lawyer visit the police station. Reporters and photographers zoom in for juicy scandal. Rogelio admits Raquel was his lover but denies killing her.

  • JC decides to teach Paulina a lesson. He calls her roommate and says he's got a job for Paulina - when she arrives at the interview location, it's his apartment. He yanks her inside, locks the door, and says she's staying until she listens to him. He's disconnected the phone and locked the windows so she can't shout for help.

OK, he's cute, and he has a smile on his face, but this would make me far more furious than his original crime.

She holds out for a while, but he smiles cutely a lot and when she throws a wastebasket at him, breaking it on his face, he puts it over his head and smiles through the holes. Eventually she gives in, kissy kissy, and he asks her again to marry him. They still don't know each other's names.

  • Regina was, of course, impactada to find her husband Demian smooching the secretary, his hand pushing that already tiny skirt further up her thigh.

She slips out and runs into Gabriel (I don't believe we know what the intent of HIS visit was supposed to be). She gasps: "get me out of here" and they go get coffee.

They admit to still loving each other and review: "I wrote you every day." "My father never gave me your letters - when I got back you were married to your first wife." "I married Luisa while loving you." "I married Demian thinking he'd be just like you, but I was wrong." Regina says she will stay faithful and married for the sake of JC.

Meanwhile the secretary bounces back into Demian's office and says: "I saw your wife embracing your brother." Demian throws things and plans vengeance.

So when Regina, at home, is indulging in bittersweet flashbacks, Demian rushes in and knocks her down. "I know you were with Gabriel." "We were just talking, but YOU were macking with your secretary." "I seek from another what you don't give me." "I should leave you forever." "If you do you'll be sorry, JC will be lost." "He's your son!" "You know I don't think he is!" [That's probably because JC is too nice to be his son.] "If you hurt him," threatens Regina, "I'll kill you."

  • Luisito is by far the worst kid I have ever seen in a novela. [Comment from telenovela-world: "No doubt he'd be Gabe's kid cause Demian would drowned him years ago."] He's whining, sobbing, and squeaking in a most affected way; he's been lying on the floor since yesterday - when, remember, his mother Joselyn pushed him over and knocked him off his crutches when he saw her slashing hubby Gabriel's expensive shirts with a pair of scissors. I can't even write this without giggling, what a hoot.

Joselyn croons weirdly to Little Creep: "I love you, but he doesn't love you." Little Creep [sobs and sniffles and squeaks]: "No, no, no." Joselyn: "You don't know how I suffer." Blah blah blah, she promises to take him to the garden so he starts smiling a mealy smile through his fake tears, oh lord. I bet she forgets. He will tell all this to his psychiatrist some day if mommy doesn't kill him first.

First, though, she makes a mighty effort to hide the pile of expensive slashed-up rags as all the Fieras arrive and Rogelio's arrest is announced.

  • Tiberio goes back to Chacal with another of Demian's assignments. When Chacal tries to play hard to get, Tiberio asks rhetorically: "Remember who saved you from the insane asylum?" Chacal's flashbacks - to writhing in a straightjacket and getting electroshock treatments - turn him into a gibbering melted heap in the corner while Tiberio laughs, ha ha ha.

Mid-flashback we see Demian was a patient in the same asylum at the same time as Chacal. They have, I guess, a special bond.

  • Elsa apologizes to Leonardo for having thrown his recogido status in his face. We don't really have a word for this in English - it's like adopting a stray dog out of the street, except a person. Leonardo says: "It's OK, I care about you as much as I would if we were truly siblings, I want what's best for you, and Chacal is not it, stop riding his motorcycle with him, you'll find somebody better. And by the way, I met somebody, she's just like Viviana, I'm falling in love." This thing about Mariangela being exactly like Vivian is creepy, a shrink would warn against it.

  • Diana, Rogelio's wife, goes to the police to admit she argued with Raquel at Raquel's apartment - but also to insist that Raquel had been alive when she left! Poor cousin Pedro goes along for support.

As soon as she arrives at the station, however, dead Raquel's maid - to whom Tiberio gave a heap of money - sees her and shouts accusations - "I saw that woman, she visited my employer, then thump, my employer was a bloody pudding on top of a red car, and I looked up and there was that woman on the balcony, I recognize her clothes, she's the assassin!" Diana is impactada when thusly accused.

  • I don't know if this is going to be important, but back at Mariangela's pueblo, Mayeya - a very large blond vision in pink - is about to be married and keeps bugging the padre about flowers etc. because she wants her wedding to be perfect. "People thought I'd never get married but what a wonderful man I have." This better turn out to be significant or I'm going to resent having wasted a paragraph on it.

  • In the limo, Tiberio congratulates Demian on various successfully executed dastardly deeds: "When you plan something, it never fails." "Is your admiration real or are you afraid of me?" "You're the greatest! If I could choose a dad, it would be YOU!" I might add that with the plastic surgery and fake hair, Tiberio looks roughly the same age as Demian. Who cast Tiberio? And who let him get such a ghastly facelift? Although his weird look complements his role as evil sidekick, I suppose.

Damian uncharacteristically asks Tiberio about his mother! Tiberio: "She's dead, and I wouldn't care about her anyway." We flash to Dolores in prison. She exposits to a nun: "I don't merely want to find out who murdered my brother Edgar - I'm also dying to see my son Tiberio, who was raised by his father and knows nothing about me."

  • In a sort of lame finish, Mariangela timidly enters the room where Gabriel is morose about his son being in jail for murder. She asks: "Are you ok?" "No, no, I'm not ok." In the manner of self-absorbed people Mariangela makes it all about her: "Well, I'm not ok either, my mother doesn't recognize me." He is distracted from his own sorrow and they have a pure, sincere hug. Clemente sees it and is impactado.

La Fea Más Bella #119 10/6/06 Steaks on a plane

Sorry - I have no idea why this disappeared briefly. I'm making sure it's back now.

Fern begs Lety to go to Germany and says he needs her. She reluctantly agrees, and Fern does something cute to her face in thanks. He goes to give Ricardo the good news. Lety tells herself she doesn't feel good about this, and doesn't think she should go.

Martha is talking about the soccer game. Actually, she's talking about the food that she'd like to get for them to eat in front of the game. PM says Fern doesn't like them eating at their desks. Alicia comes in and greets them all brightly. They don't seem so happy to see her. They ask if she's been dreaming of horses. They harrass her for being late, and she says her arrival time is none of their business; only Fern can tell her what to do. They tell her Fern's already been at his desk for hours, and because Lety arrived on time, she's now in a really important meeting with Fern and Ricardo.

This surprises Alicia because she evidently didn't see yesterday's episode where she was in Fernando's office, wearing the same outfit she's wearing now, bothering them in their meeting. (I think something got edited out of order.) They tell her it (the meeting) is a matter of life or death. Alicia doesn't believe them and they won't say any more. She resolves to find out what's going on.

Fern tells Ricardo that Lety has agreed to go to Germany. Alicia just walks on in carrying a tray of coffee. Nobody asked her for coffee. She says that's okay, she thought she'd bring it because they all came in so early. Fern tells her he knows she's there because she wants to know what's going on. She gets offended, but he says he's going to tell her everything... later. He ushers her and her tray to the door, whispering, and pushes her out. She tries to listen at the door.

Ricardo says "your secretary is so pretty." Fern says he sometimes wishes she would hang herself!

Tomorrow's episode: Alicia hangs herself. Ricardo calls the police - it wasn't a suicide... it was murder. And he knows who did it!

Not really.

Sara sneaks up behind Alicia, who is completely absorbed in her eavesdropping. Sara yells and Alicia is startled. She screams and drops her tray. They all laugh at her. Come on, isn't this like shooting fish in a barrel? But I digress.

Saimon comes in to make an announcement. He wants them all to get together and ask Fern to let them watch the game. They get rowdy with excitement, and Irma shushes them. Alicia says she'll ask Fern... not to let anyone watch it. She starts ordering people around.

Fern is annoyed in his office about all the noise going on outside. Ricardo tells Lety he just spoke to his assistant, and Lety will be able to get a passport right away. Lety says she really thinks they can't go. It's going to be difficult to get plane tickets, hotel reservations, etc... Ricardo assures them that's all taken care of too. They'll be on a first-class flight to Frankfurt. Lety frets about the cost, which is not an issue for Ricardo. He gives them their contact information. Then Lety worries about the underwear commercial, and Fern says that's not going to be an issue either; this trip to Germany will be very quick. He tells her to stop making up excuses.

Ricardo asks Lety what's up. Isn't she excited to be going to Germany? She says sure - she'd even be happy to go to Acapulco. Ricardo leaves and Fern tells him to say hello to Luigi.

Now Lety is worried about something else. What if Alicia finds out they're going to Germany? She'll tell Marcia. He wonders how they'll be able to explain their absence.

They can hear Saimon outside Fern's door. Saimon is saying what a great humanitarian their boss is, and how good he is to his employees. Fern comes out and Saimon has them all saying wooooo for the Mexican team. Fern blows a horn. Irma asks if they... but Alicia cuts her off. Fern asks Irma what is it. Sara impatiently begins asking instead. He interrupts. You want to see Mexico play? They all cheer. He blows the horn and dances a bit. Alicia complains that the cuartel are always wasting time and never working. A vacation every day, she says. Lola clarifies that they want to watch the game here, in the office.

Fern and Lety step into his office. He tells her he has an idea to prevent them all from discovering their trip to Germany. They go back into the lobby. He says that to thank them for helping with the underwear commercial, they can all take tomorrow off to watch the Mexico-Angola game. They all cheer, but Alicia is dismayed. She asks if he's lost his mind, rewarding them for being slackers. He blows the horn some more.

He and Lety go back into his office, and she asks how they're going to explain their absence when they have to leave early this evening to catch their flight. He says that's okay, he's already figured that out too. (They are very cute in this scene.) They step back into the lobby and he blows the horn some more. He tells them to go out today and prepare for a party. Go out and buy whatever they need to buy to watch the game. Alicia protests. Fern says no, this game is very important, they must prepare themselves psychologically, prepare their hearts, their organization... okay Fern, don't you think you're laying it on a little thick? I mean, it's not like it's the Celtics, for crying out loud!

Ahem. Martha is already talking about food. They all go crazy about taking two days off. Fern reminds Alicia that he's the president, but she complains that this is absurd. She doesn't understand all the excitement about nasty soccer and says it's a game for... I bet she wanted to say nacos, but Fern cuts her off. "It's a game for people like me," he says. He blows the horn a final time (I hope) and dances some more.

Lety goes into her cubbyhole and prepares to call her father to ask permission to go on the trip. She fears he will think she's joking. Mom answers. She senses Lety's nervousness and starts to panic. Lety's afraid to ask. Finally she blurts out that she has some news. Mom and Pop look excited. Then Fern comes in and she loses her nerve again. He shoves some gadget at her that I don't recognize (turns out it's a clock) and she gets flustered and hurriedly ends the phone call. He says they need to get their tickets, get her passport, etc. etc. She agrees and shoves her own, less-fancy (and more recognizable) clock (probably a Moty clock) at him in acknowledgement.

Then he spontaneously grins, tells her she's beautiful (hermosa, like a garden), leans in and does that weird thing with her face again and kisses her. He leaves and she grins happily.

Filler scene: cuartel discusses how great Fern is. Alicia complains. Martha mentions food. You know the drill. Then Saimon asks Alicia if she'd go to their party if they asked her. (I'm not even sure where this party is going to take place.) They don't all love this idea, but Irma asks Alicia if she would like to be invited. (Not "would you like to go," but "would you like to be invited." LOL.) Alicia says she'd die first. Sara scolds her for being so rude about Irma's kind invitation.

Fern comes out and encourages them to enjoy their time off. He says he and Lety are leaving now. Naturally, Alicia wants to know why. He says they are going to visit all of his girlfriends. She wants a better answer. He says they're going to the bank for some business dealings. "Dealings?" she asks. "Type B," he elaborates, and leaves her there scratching her head.

Back at home, Tomas speculates about Lety's news. Maybe she's getting married! RoboPop says how many times have I asked you not to make such jokes. Okay, Tomas says... maybe she got a promotion. Pop says don't be stupid, she's assistant to the president - what would they promote her to? Mom says the suspense is killing her. Tomas strokes an imaginary beard, deep in thought.

Meanwhile, at the passport office, Lety and Fern laugh that Alicia was the only person who was upset about getting two days off for nothing. They pat themselves on the back for their brilliant way of solving the problem. Lety says she speaks English, French, and a little Italian, but not German. He says it's okay, everyone in the world speaks English.

It's getting late. Lety worries that they won't let her have a passport. He asks why she is so pessimistic. Does she really not want to travel with him? Just then, her passport is ready. She doesn't want him to look at it, but he does anyway. She sees it and admits it's not so bad. He says, "that's what I'm saying." She signs it and it's time to go on to the next step - she's gloomy again. Now for the only thing that can ruin their plans now: telling RoboPop. She makes a horrible face.

Mom, RoboPop, and Tomas are just sitting down to lunch. Pop is saying that his daughter has a nice quiet family life at home. That should be enough for her. (He's still a bit wound up about Tomas's prediction that she's engaged.) Tomas says that even if Pop doesn't like it, Lety is bound for better things, and better people than themselves. He snickers. Mom tells him to knock it off. They will find out Lety's news tonight.

But Tomas has one more idea: maybe Lety's going to join a convent! Mom gives in and laughs. She tells him to stop being silly.

Lety comes home. They think that means it must be even more serious than they had thought. Mom asks if she's the new president of Conceptos. Tomas asks if she's going to have cosmetic surgery. Dad asks if she's getting married. She just blurts it out: she's going to Germany with Fernando. Tomas laughs and scoffs, but Lety is serious. Pop says: with whose permission?

Meanwhile, at Casa Mendiola, Fern is on the phone with Marcia. Marcia wants to know why he gave everyone two days off. He wants to know who told her. Was it Sanson, Celso's dog? Wait, no, was it... Juana? No...

Marcia does not appreciate his sarcasm. (He thinks to himself that he'll have a better time on his trip with Lety.) There's too much work to do at Conceptos. He says they've worked hard. She tells him she thinks he's hiding something from her. He points out that Alicia, her informant, also said that they were making dirty movies, so maybe Marcia should listen to him and not Alicia. He wants to see the Mexico game tomorrow, himself. He'd like to enjoy it, please.

Marcia asks where he's going to watch this game. (Is there a TV shortage in Mexico or something? What kind of trick question is that?) Actually... it trips him up a bit. He says he's going to the club and see it so he doesn't have to watch it alone. He can watch it with the horses, and his associates, and the old guys, yep, watchin' soccer on the TV.

Lety is packing all of her frumpiest frocks. Her father demands an explanation. He tells her she's not going. Lety says it's important. Tomas defends her too - he says she deserves these opportunities. (He'll do just about anything for Lety, but I wonder what he gets out of his friendship with her, other than Mom's cooking.) Lety explains that she's going to assist in negotiations and review contracts worth hundreds of thousands of Euros. (Not sure offhand what the conversion factor is; originally €1 Euro was = $1, I think, but it's certainly changed since then.) The deal won't happen if she doesn't look at that contract, she says.

Tomas spies Lety's passport and gasps with admiration... until he sees the picture. He says she looks blurry. Mom is excited too. She's never seen a passport before. RoboPop is still thinking about what Tomas and Lety have said. She's going to review a contract worth hundreds of thousands of Euros? Suddenly, he's very impressed. Lety nicely asks if she can go. Mom puts in a few more good words.

After the commercial break, they are at the airport's VIP room. She is very nervous. She admits she's afraid to fly. Fern tells her that flying is safer than driving or even the dunebuggies you rent at the beach (somehow I doubt she has ever rented such a thing and possibly never been to the beach at all). She says she's not worried so much about the airplane, as being in a situation she can't control (I think that's what she says). She says more stuff, which causes him to laugh. She is not amused. I think what she's talking about is claustrophobia. If she were not with him, she would want to go home to her parents... but since she's with him, she'll go on the airplane with him.

He takes her to the bar and orders her a tequila. Their flight is announced, and she clutches his arm like for dear life. She slams that shot down like lukewarm Gatorade on a hot day (try it; when you're dehydrated it tastes like paradise). (Gatorade, I mean. Don't drink tequila if you're dehydrated.) (Hmm, I wonder if they mix?) She makes a face.

Back home, Mom and Tomas talk about world travel. Tomas notices that RoboPop isn't paying attention. He seems to be asleep or in a trance. Tomas waves his hand in front of his face, and he doesn't react. Then RoboPop pops out of his chair and says "how important is my daughter?! I am so proud of my daughter. Her boss can't lift a finger without her." etc... "Thanks to Lety, Fernando will have that contract in his hands."

Lety and Fern are just about to board the plane when Lety has a panic attack. She wants to go home. The people behind them (one of them looks like the guard from the country club) are impatient to board. Fern pleads with her to get on the plane.

Due to technical difficulties, I missed the next few minutes. Fortunately, I tape my episodes on a clunky old VCR as backup. Unfortunately, I did not rewind the tape in a timely manner, so that part of the episode might be missing from there too. If I have it, I'll replace this paragraph with whatever happened. If I don't have it, well, I doubt anything important happened.

Fern has apparently gotten Lety to her seat, where she's having another drink. She guzzles it and says she wants another. He asks the flight attendant, but she says no, we're about to take off. She tells Lety to fasten her seatbelt. This causes Lety more panic. Fern helps her with the seatbelt. She's a bit loud and the other passengers are annoyed. One woman in particular is giving her disgusted looks. A man asks if she's feeling well when she starts praying. Fern tells her they're just taxiing down the runway. She clutches his arm again. He says she's hurting him. She's yelling. People are shushing them. She says she's worried about crashing. The disgusted lady behind them gives them an earful in Russian but all I get is "pozhalsta," aka "please." Fern doesn't understand it either and we aren't given captions for that so I guess it's a mystery. Fern politely agrees with her ("tiene usted toda la razon") and Lety whines some more. He tells her to look out the window - they're up in the air. She's impressed, but she really wants another tequila.

Mom and RoboPop watch TV in bed at home and talk about Lety being on an airplane. They remember their one trip to Puebla. He says travel is for the rich. She asks if he thinks they'll ever have the money to go on a nice trip. He doesn't know, but he only wants to do it if they can do it as a family.

Lety slams another tequila. She is now extremely "relaxed." She's singing some traditional Mexican song (I assume). He urges her to be quiet. She shushes in agreement - very loudly. And now she wants to go to the bathroom. He wants her to sleep. She insists on the bathroom and needs him to show her where it is before she starts climbing over the seats. She keeps flopping over as he guides her up the aisle. She lands on this one man and converses with him in English. He is very patient and gracious. She asks where he's from, and he says Nigeria. Fern apologizes (also in English), explaining she's drunk, as if he couldn't tell. She asks is he a teacher, what does he do for a living. Fern propels her along and she asks how much longer is this flight - he says it's just a mere nine more hours.

A few missteps and "disculpames" later, Lety is passed out cold.

I was bluffing about the steaks on the plane. I don't know what the first-class meal will be, and I doubt that Lety will be in any condition to eat it!

Monday: Mexico plays Angola; Luigi wears something sleeveless; Julie drools. Also some stuff about Marcia.

Heridas Friday Oct 6

Alejandro tells Gonzalo that Cesar and Julio are going to steal all of SLI’s clients with their new company, Gonzalo doesn’t seem to care, he’s just waiting to get started smoking that cigar he’s holding.

Miranda and Pamela have a good old-fashioned man-hating party. The details are irrelevant. Lots of bitching. In this case Pamela has the right to be angry, but really even if she were totally wrong this scene would be the same. After the men suck part, they discuss Cesar selling his property to Luciano.

The scene again where Alejandro tells Gonz that he loves Miranda and wants to give her his shares as a wedding gift. Gonz says they’ll talk again tomorrow, for now Al should leave. Gonz asks what he did to cause Al to want to hurt him. Al just leaves.

Rebeca tells Miranda how much Cesar is hurting because he loves her, Miranda tries to be nice, but really should she care? Fern shows up Miranda yells at her “are you going to tell me that I’m not Gonzalo’s daughter either?” She snaps at Fern a bit more and rushes out.

Al and Daira are talking in his house, Luciano is there too, the men are smoking cigars. They go over (again) various things about Cesar, and about his selling the property, and Pamela, same old stuff. Also, with his father’s papers, Bertha can ruin Al. He says he needs to get married to Miranda soon before Bertha reappears.

Miranda, Fab, Flor, Pamela, and Nuria arrive in Tabasco and Miranda starts giving the help orders for this and that.

Vicente comes to talk to Gonz. Vicenta is ready to go to London. Gonz thinks he can get everything back – his company and his family. Vicente leaves and Al arrives. Gonz asks Al if he has told Miranda everything – Al’s face says no.

Miranda and Pamela are dressed in their country outfits now, taking a walk. They are going to talk to the help at the cacao plant, I think. They aren’t looking forward to it. I didn’t understand all the details of this particular conversation. The camera pans to Gabino and some other woman that works there. Miranda and Pamela catch up. Turns out there is a group of women standing there, they must be on strike or something. Miranda tells them that they are the only ones left and have only their hands to work with. The women start griping in the most lethargic way possible.

Back in Gonzalo’s office – Al explains that his actions against SLI were simply business. The conversation is longer, but that’s what it comes down to – it was just business. Nothing about his father or any of that. I was hoping we were getting somewhere towards the final showdown, but apparently not. Finally Gonz asks a tougher question – why are you protecting Fernanda? Al has to take a breath first, then explains “she and Bertha were friends of my mother, so when I came here I wanted to look out for her.” Gonz accepts this and moves on to business. Gonz starts talking business but Al says first he needs to settle the deal about him marrying Miranda. Gonz says he knows that they don’t need his permission, so he’ll just say that whatever happens, Al needs to make her happy. Al swears it will be that way.

Cesar shows up at Fern’s house and she is very happy to see him. She thanks him for telling Miranda about what happened way back when. They talk about some nothing for a few minutes. He tells her to count in him for help for anything. He then tells Fern that he knows that Miranda loves him but Al just confuses her. Fern sets him straight, Miranda loves Al, sorry buddy but that’s the way it is.

Back to Villahermosa in Tabasco. Flor and Nuria discuss being pregnant. Nuria complains that her baby daddy can’t be with her, Flor says why? Is he married? Nuria doesn’t answer. Have you noticed how often people just simply don’t answer questions? Now when my six year old ignores me I feel like he’s expecting a commercial break so he doesn’t have to answer.

Alejandro tells Luciano the story he told Gonz about why he acted against SLI and wants Luciano to play along. Lasagna overhears the end of the conversation. Al tells Luciano to prepare the papers for Lasagna to get her inheritance – Lasagna smiles and disappears. Since she’s gone, she doesn’t hear the last part. Luciano says “you’re going to give it to her?” Al says of course not, he just wants to know why and for who she needs the money so badly.

Renata is IN THE KITCHEN COOKING. And looks somewhat like she knows what she is doing. She’s on the phone with some friend at the same time, explaining that she’s making a surprise for Juan. Juan calls for her from the other room so she asks Erika to call her back in a bit. Juan walks in shirtless for all the lady viewers. He says, “what are you doing?” She says she’s making breakfast, so he should go take a shower and get ready. He says he better hurry up so he can help. She says NO – it’s one thing to have never cooked before, but it’s another thing to be incapable of cooking. So Juan get to the shower and let me be ok thanks. She takes a mournful look around the house, then says a prayer to the virgin. Then she cries a little, as required by novela contract. She tells the virgin she needs to find a way to prove her love to Juan, aaand there’s Juan eavesdropping. He steps away, no idea if he was touched by that or not.

Gonz is telling Bertha on the phone to get home right now. He has stuff to discuss with her. She is obviously giving him a hard time, he keeps having to say “now. I have to tell you some things. Get home. You don’t understand. Get back here.” Then he yells at her for never telling him about Flor not being his daughter. He says come back and give him some answers, or never come back. Click. Vicente arrives. Vicente says Al was right, people are calling and wanting their money back to go to Cesar’s company. They are offering better rates or something. Perhaps free toasters for opening accounts.

Flor gives Nuria advice on men. Hahaahahaahahahahahhahaahahahaahahahahahahaahaahahaha. Just the idea kills me. Nuria flashes back to an argument with Cesar, Flor has struck a nerve. Bertha calls Flor’s cell phone. Flor gushes to Nuria how great Bertha is. Nuria knows better, she decides to leave but faints when she gets up. Flor stands there like a complete idiot and makes no move to help or anything, just looks at her like she’s about to pop back up and say “just kidding!”

Miranda is still trying to win over the ladies at the cacao farm/grove/plantation/whatever it’s called. Now they are all on board, yes we can do it! I have no idea how they got to this point after the lame, bored protestations from before. Turns out those weren’t country outfits Miranda and Pamela were wearing, they were work clothes, matching what the other women are wearing. They all get to work.

Nuria woke up, Flor is giving her a tissue or something. Way to help. Flor says they need to see Fern, and when Juan returns he can take care of both of them.

Renata has breakfast all ready when Francisco and Amparo return from selling tacos and Juan is ready to eat. They don’t know what to think, but they sit down and Renata serves them. Turns out the food is pretty good. Renata flashes back to Miranda yelling at her for spending so much money and how she was such a brat about it. Now she is learning the other side of things. The flashback also includes a shot of old school Bertha. Back in the present she starts crying. Juan says tenderly, what’s wrong? The food is good, really! They all agree. She says great, thanks, gotta go and runs out. Francisco just about reaches over the table to slap Juan – “go after her you idiot! She’s your woman go help her!” So Juan goes and finds Renata in the other room crying. He is nice to her but not so warm like a husband would normally be, she asks how long he’s going to be so cold? He said “yesterday you said you’d give me time.” Ok, she says, fine. Oh, my Aunt Bertha gave me some money to buy clothes but I told her no, I don’t want that to come between us (her and Juan). Juan says buy whatever, it’s your money. She says no, it’s OUR money. Juan tells her to take Erika with her. He acts like he’s going to kiss her then, but ends up kissing her on the cheek, visibly distressing Renata. Then Juan leaves. I would have to say that this is the first scene in the entire show that actually pulled the emotion that it was trying to get from the viewer. I felt bad for Renata, the whole thing was quite a tender scene. Juan ruined it of course by still being too macho, but it appears that he’s softening.

Fern gets a phone call, it’s Flor. They catch up. Flor is happy to be on a transplant list, Fern says if the treatment is going so well she might not need a transplant at all. Flor asks when Juan is coming back. Uh, nobody told you? Juan and Renata got married. Flor’s eyes pop out of her head.

Some woman I don’t recognize walks up to the house at the hacienda. Oops it’s Miranda, looking like a wet dog. She put in a hard day’s work. She magnanimously tells Gabino that she has to work as hard as the other woman to keep their respect. He rightfully points out that they are used to the work, she needs to work her way up to it, physically. Pamela comes up saying her back hurts. Pamela.. why don’t you let me rub your back for you? Sorry back to the story. Miranda and Gabino discuss business, the cacao quality is lower than before apparently. She scribbles out some numbers for production targets, Gabino tells her she’s crazy, they can only do half that. She says we are gonna do it. Then she gets a determined look on her face that is probably supposed to look proud or something like that but she still looks like a wet dog.

Oh god kill me Cesar and Lasagna are at his place making out. She tells him everything she overheard between Al and Luciano. Bitch. I hate her now.

Some shadowy figure is telling Bertha on the phone, “yes Bertha. Everything her in Tabasco is ready.” It’s some guy with shaggy hair but we can’t see who it is. He tells her everything was done as she instructed.

Lasagna is checking out Cesar’s ceremonial sword that he keeps on display at his place. She’s soo surprised that Al could be that way! Oh my gawd! Cesar encourages her to doubt Al. “He lives a double life.” A lot more kissing. Bleah. The sad part is that Cesar is right, he’s not telling Miranda the truth. Lasagna tells Cesar the whole history of how Alejandro decided to come seek vengeance.

Al is reading poetry. SUuuuure he is. Oh senor dreamy you’re so deep you read poetry. Whatever. He then daydreams out loud about Miranda and how much he loves her. He hears her voice telling him she loves him over and over. He hears her yelling his name in his dream and drops his poetry book over the balcony. He comes out of his dream and she’s not there but he’s sure she is in trouble, he finds his cell phone to call her.

Rebeca tells Cesar about her discussion with Miranda the other day and what Miranda said about not loving Cesar like a man, etc. He looks over at Lasagna and tells Rebeca “gotta go, things I have to do.” Cesar asks Lasagna if everything Luciano bought (like his property and Julio’s shares) were for Alejandro, she says yes. He freaks out, throws his glass against the wall and starts hitting things with a short sword. Lasagna is a little afraid, but not enough in my opinion, she should be running for the door. Doubtless she will try and go console him, since that would be the dumbest thing to do.
