Yago #16. Wed, 01 Jun 16: Weakness

The strength of Katia’s loyalty and faithfulness to Yago is put to the test.

How strong is Melina when she’s held at gunpoint by Lorenzo?

Can Yago use Sara’s weakness to his advantage?

Is Ámbar strong enough to learn the truth about Damián and Sara?

From previous episodes, several issues are played out in this episode.

Lucio has hired Bernardo García, a young man savvy with software. Lucio wants him to help control the casino systems in favor of the house.

Selma tells Fidel that her recent trip to get close to Julia Michell (Jade Fraser: last seen in the role of Daniela Ripoll in Hasta el Fin del Mundo), daughter of real estate magnate, Camilo Michell (Mario Zaragoza) was fruitless. She says that Julia is distrusting and unbreakable (desconfiable, inquebrante) and has a guarded (blindada) personality like her father. Fidel tells it doesn’t matter how guarded she is, they’ve spent years on their secret weapon.

Katia questions Fidel and Selma's interest in Ámbar.

Yago is at the casino observes that no one seems to be winning. A dealer tells him that they’re all in a bad mood because it seems like the house fixed thing in their favor. Yago looks over and sees Lucio with Bernardo. He then calls in an anonymous complaint for a government inspection of the irregularities.

One of Lucio’s heavies that he sent looking for Lorenzo pretends to be with the police and approaches Bruno and Alejandra to question them about the shooting incident. Bruno is smart enough to tell him he needed to see a badge before talking to him. By, the way, any Sueño de Amor watchers might notice the actor playing the heavy is Kiko’s orthopedic surgeon on SdA. At least he’s a good guy over there.

Lucio is talking to Ámbar and doesn’t hold back when he tells her that her father and Sara are both scammers and that her father has stolen money from them over the years.

Yago meets with Fidel, Selma, and Katia. Yago is concerned about finding Lorenzo. Fidel recommends while they wait to get word, they should address another subject: Julia Michell. Yago recognizes the last name as that of the magnate who owns the building where Damián’s secret luxury suite is located. Fidel wants to know that the relationship between Damián and Camilo is. According to Selma, followed them and discovered the association. She had no luck getting close to them and suggests that Yago might be able to get close to them because of his relationship with Ámbar who coincidentally is friends with Julia. Julia works in ecotourism and worked with Ámbar on a project in Bali. They deduce that the relation (nexo) between Camilo and Damián coming from the friendship between Ámbar and Julia is worth exploring. Yago asks what Selma and Fidel are hiding from him.

Katia breaks up that tense moment when she discovers the Lorenzo incident video on social media. Yago reconizes Lorenzo after seeing him at the cemetary earlier. He thinks he must have been on his way to the Omar’s tomb. He starts to worry that his family is in danger and starts to leave.

Katia goes after him, and Fidel tries to convince him not to go. He lies to Yago saying there’s no danger because Lorenzo has been arrested.

At the Guerrero’s, Melina arrives. Lorenzo is lurking around the house and finds her in the kitchen and points the gun at her.

At Fidel’s Katia convinces Yago that she’ll go to check on Melina to make sure she’s really safe. We see that Fidel previously talked to Katia regarding Omar’s emotions putting Yago in danger. He tells her sometimes she’ll have to lie to him and even put obstacles in his way.

Yago gets a call from Sara. She says they need to meet, it’s important.

Back with Melina, Lorenzo still has the gun pointed at her. At this point, she only realizes that there is someone there.

Yago and Sara meet at a park. She tells him she thought the only person she could love was Omar until she met Yago. They kiss. (Front-runner for best kiss of 2016. I could practically smell Yago when she closed her eyes and took a breath before kissing him.)

New in today’s episode, a little boy (Lorenzo) is pedaling his tricycle while he follows his dad, Facundo Castillo, as he makes sure everything is secure for the night at the casino. His dad puts him in a makeshift bed and tells him to go to sleep. Lorenzo pretends to sleep, but then goes after Facundo to see what’s going on in the halls. He sees Abel and Lucio stealing from the vault and eventually shoot Facundo twice. He hides. After Abel and Lucio leave, he runs to his dad who’s still alive. They tell each other “I love you” and Facundo dies.

Back in the present, Lorenzo, set on avenging his father’s death, approaches Melina telling her who he is and pointing a gun at her.

Sara and Yago are kissing passionately. Suddenly she has remorse because of what this would to do to Ámbar and to Lucio even though it’s not about love for Lucio but their business and sentimental commitment. She wants to be with Yago, but this can’t and won’t happen again.

At the Sarquis house, Mati sees Ámbar and confronts her about leaving without saying goodbye. Ámbar tells him she promises to come back and show him how to use her camera. It doesn’t matter what she says, Mati is disappointed and tells her now at first he didn’t think she was anything like Damián, but now he sees how much she has in common with her father. She doesn’t understand why he says that. He doesn’t tell her why and just brushes her off with “que te vaya bien” which while literally meaning “that it goes well for you” lends itself to the wisher to mean the opposite.

Katia is frantic about lying to Yago. Fidel tells her that was something they already discussed, that it’s for his own good, and that he has no business going after Lorenzo. She says Lorenzo is a necessary part of their endgame. She tries calling Teo, but he doesn’t answer.

Lorenzo tells Melina that who would have thought that his father’s killer’s house can be so pretty and welcoming (bonita y acojedora). Melina tells him that Omar isn’t a murder and didn’t do it. Lorenzo threatens justice.

Yago leaves the park and recalls kissing Sara and then remembers the intimate moments they shared when he was Omar. A call from Fidel telling him to come to the house (theatre) interrupts his thoughts.

Melina is still trying to convince Lorenzo of Omar’s innocence. She tells him the trial was full of lies and a trap setting up Omar. When Lorenzo tells her he doesn’t believe her because he was there, she tells him to swear that he saw Omar do it. She stands up to him. Outside, Teo and Abel arrive. Lorenzo is confused by what Melina is telling him. Outside Teo and Abel plot what to do. They can’t blow there cover and go in.

Back at the casino, as Lucio is saying goodbye to Bernardo, he sees the fraud inspector (Hermán López) arrive.

Melina is still insisting that Lorenzo is mistaken. Lorenzo is about to shoot her but fires into the air as police storm in the house apprehending him and saving Melina.

Ámbar is now at Damián’s suite where he offers her a variety of cupcakes. Ámbar declines them because she wants him to clear up what Lucio told her about him and Sara stealing money. He denies it, and she doesn’t believe him especially seeing him living like a king in that suite even though he doesn’t have a penny. His response that the Madrigals are accustomed to living in style is met with her asking if it’s at the cost thefts, scams, or something worse. He tells her she’s on shaky ground and that the truth she’s seeking might be worse than the lie. He says what he has done was to survive and to support his family. Just as Sara did when Ámbar asked her for the truth, he tells her she should know exactly what they have done for her sake. He opens the door for her to leave.

In his office, Lucio offers the inspector expensive whiskey which he declines. Lucio tries to defend himself as being professional and honest. The inspector wants to talk to the casino workers and the customers. Lucio isn’t opposed to it, but he wants to find a way to fix the matter. The inspector asks what he’s offering. Lucio says, “Give me a figure, and I’ll sign it.” The inspector zings him with, “I prefer to put the figure and sign the fine (multa) for bribery (soborno).”

Abel and Teo wait outside Melina’s house in the truck. Teo gets a call and answers, “Hi, my heaven.” (Hola, mi cielo.). Abel gets out of the truck. It turns out Katia’s calling him. She plays along and tells him, “Don’t hang up on me, sweetheart.” (No me cuelgues, corazoncito.) She gets serious and tells him she wants to know about Lorenzo and wants details. Abel comes back into the truck and tells her, “My boss is coming back, precious. Yes, I’ll ring you later. Kisses." (Ahi viene mi patron, preciosa. Si, te marco al rato. Besos.) Aww.

Lorenzo yells as he’s put into a patrol car and taken away. This brings back a memory of when he arrived at the orphanage after his dad was killed. Mother Josefina tries to be supportive of him when she receives him promising to always be there for him and always help him. Lorenzo is very angry and runs out of there.

And now for the scene that included the most gif-worthy exchange.

Yago is with Fidel in the theatre and asks him what happened with Katia. Fidel responds that he (Yago) definitely took advantage of his free time. He points at his collar, puckers his lips, and asks, Sara? Yago responds straightening his jacket. (Someone, find out how to make a gif of that scene!) Yago then got serious and told him, “We have her where we want her: vulnerable and weak. It even seemed like she was sorry for what she did to Omar.” Fidel makes a statement about being repentant. “Being repentant is like children’s imaginary friends: you can’t see them and you can’t prove that they’re there.” He reminds Yago that the only thing Sara excels at is lying. Yago says he’s going to make her suffer and then changes the subject to Julia Michell.

The patrol car with Lorenzo stops and they take him out and hand him over to Abel and Teo. Apparently, they have a weakness for bribes and accept a wad of cash and go on their way.

Back at the casino, Lucio talks nervously on the phone. The computer guy is being interviewed by the inspector. The inspector asks him for some ID. When he unzips his wallet, a check pops out. It’s from Lucio. He tells him, “Sleep with children and wake up wet.” (Duerme con niños y despiertas mojado.) He asks Lucio about the check and ends up ordering that the casino be shut down.

Jonás and Bruno are with Melina. Jonás is fit to be tied wanting to press charges against Lorenzo. Melina is against that. Bruno admits that this was his fault for going to the orphanage to find him. Jonás says that it’s his fault because out of guilt he got involved with Lorenzo and deposited money for his care on a monthly basis. He felt guilty for what Omar did. Melina is outraged when she hears that and leaves the room.

In the truck, Abel and Teo tell Lorenzo that they are going to take him to a safe house because the police will be looking for him. Teo realizes that Abel lied to Lorenzo telling him he was his father’s friend.

Jonás and Bruno go to Melina and apologize. Jonás says what he did was the only way to make amends for the pain he felt for having raised Lorenzo’s father’s murderer. Melina is offended. Bruno tells Jonás that he’s discovering that Omar is not guilty and is on his way to clearing his name. Jonás gave up on Omar’s innocence and just wants to move on from that as a family.

Sara arrives at the casino and sees it closed. Lucio is panicking. Sara tells him they need to think with cool heads to come up with a solution. She tells him to go with Tomás, the loan shark, to ask for more time to make the next loan payments. He goes with Tomás and asks him, but he Tom tells him his associates won’t accept his request and walks off. In a park, Mati is playing on a skateboard while two of Tomás’s thugs are watching him.

It’s nighttime, and Abel and Teo arrive at house with Lorenzo. Abel lets Lorenzo in the house and tells Teo to leave. Teo asks him what he plans on doing. Abel tells him that he knows that he doesn’t like to leave witnesses. Teo tries to convince him not to do it. Abel makes him give him his cell phone and sends him on his way.

At the Sarquis house, Ámbar has returned and is with Yago in the kitchen. He is showing off by making Spanish tortillas (Not the thin, flat bread. Like an omelet but not folded over. Fried with other ingredients in a pan.) for them. After he serves them, he starts in on her and tells her about some new hotels in the works, but that acquiring the land for the boutique hotel is a challenge because it’s in an endangered species zone. Ámbar suggests she contact her friend who can help with the ecological evaluations. "You probably know her: Julia Michell." Yago asks her to do it.

Sara walks in and doesn’t even greet him. He says hello and offers to make her a tortilla. She declines. She says she just came for some water because she has an unbearable headache.

At the house in the woods, Lorenzo is excited about the place. He tries to start a fire in the fireplace. When he has his back to him, Abel points the gun at him. Suddenly, he puts it away and listens to Lorenzo. Lorenzo is getting to Abel’s soft spot by telling him that the last time he went to the woods it was awful. He didn’t have any friends and no one wanted to play with him. He said he blamed himself because after his father died, he was angry and unfriendly. The other kids told him he had the face of a crazy person. Abel starts to identify with his because he was told the same thing as a kid. Lorenzo becomes more at ease talking to him.

Yago finds Sara in the garden. He says that he was looking for her because they needed to talk. She doesn’t want to talk to him and asks where Ámbar is. He tells her she’s making a phone call. He gets closer and closer to her, but she tries to back away from him. He tells her, “Tell me that you never ever want to see me again, and I promise to never see you again.” She says, “I never want to see you again.” What does he do? He grabs her and kisses her. They back away from each other and look around to make sure no one saw them. Ámbar goes around the house looking for them and discovers them in the garden. Sara tells him out of Ámbar's earshot that this can't happen again. (Yeah, stop it---some more!) Ámbar asks Sara for her forgiveness because she doesn't want to fight anymore. Sara replies that she has nothing to forgive her for. As she's about to go back inside the house she turns back, looks at Yago and sighs in frustration.

Lorenzo gets emotional talking to Abel. Abel can’t handle it when Lorenzo tells him about how happy and grateful he is. He yells at him to stop saying all that foolishness because he isn’t who he thinks he is. He asks him who he is. Abel starts pulling out the gun.

We see Teo walking along a path. He hears a gunshot and runs back to the house where he finds Abel sitting on the porch. He tells him, “I had to do it. I had no other choice. I killed again. I had to do it. Go. I’ll take care of getting rid of the body.”

Tomorrow: Sara can’t resist the temptation to go see Yago. They can’t control their passion even at the risk of Lucio discovering them and killing them.

Thanks for the wonderful recap! I'm a day behind so I'll watch this episode tonight. I can't believe Abel shot Lorenzo! I so hope he is not dead and Teo is able to take him to get some help!

Kinomathematika, thanks for this recap. I think it's the first recap of yours that I've ever read. I like your explanation of "que te vaya bien." I guess our equivalent would be the sarcastic "have a nice life" which usually means "I hope you die in a ditch and rot in hell."

Extra-thanks for covering the stuff that ran over from the previous night.

I'm glad you enjoyed the kiss and that you got a whiff of Yago. Unfortunately all I got was Sara (apparently I don't get to pick), and it was the smell of sulfur. :-(

Sara is pretty funny, making out with Yago and then regretting it. This seems to be a lifelong pattern for her: do something bad that's fun, and then say she regrets it only after she's had her fill. Does she really think that's how it works? No, she very well knows that talk is cheap. I guess it's been working out great for her.

Now we know that Yago has at least an inkling that this revenge scheme is bigger than himself and Sara, Lucio, and Abel. I mean, I would think that he would have realized that much earlier on. A guy like Fidel doesn't finance someone else's personal vendetta just for the fun of it.

So I guess I was wrong in my recap when I thought Lorenzo said he was only 2, because the kid in the flashback looked a lot older than 2!

Lucky for Yago that the casino inspector was honest, eh?

And I liked the cute phone chat between Teo and Katia, but I hope they come up with more original nicknames for one another.

I'm still disappointed that Jonas accepts the myth of Omar's guilt. He should know his son better than that.

I can't believe Abel killed the kid. And I can't believe I was already asleep when that happened!! Any chance he didn't really kill the kid? Seems more likely to me that he would have given him bus fare.

Oh wow, what a great job Kinoma, thanks

"(Yeah, stop it---some more!)"

Ok, that was hot

I just hope Sara gets left high and dry at the end. Last night illustrated Omar wasn't the only casualty of Sara's plan, so what she didn't pull the trigger.

Fabulous job, Kinoma! Thanks for recapping what Juju wasn't able to recap yesterday too.

"Yeah, stop it---some more!' Favorite line. Yes, indeed, those kisses between Sara and Yomar were hot. No way can she stay away from that.

Poor Lorenzo. His whole story in flashback made me weepy. I really hope that Abel didn't kill him, but I think he did.

Thank you very much Kinoma for the recap!

Vivi: Lorenzo was going to get killed anyway & it was inevitable. The look on Teo's face & body language when he heard the gunshot said it all.

Tofie: What would happen if Bruno keeps digging up more information to clear Omar & if Lucio & Co., find out about it ? Will they have him killed too ?

Carvivile: I see that the inspectors closed down the casino. Lucio's having a hissy fit.

Oh one thing I forgot about Monday's episode I wanted to comment on... I was mad that Bruno told Lucio that the video he gave him had been doctored. I thought that Bruno and Ale had agreed that Lucio shouldn't be told. This is only putting Bruno and Ale in more danger.

I think Teo should have done more to help Lorenzo. He was an innocent victim in all of this who needed help and Abel can be manipulated. What's the point of revenging on those who have hurt you if you hurt/kill innocents in the process?

I am anxious to see Yago and Katia's reactions when they find out.

Julie- Yeah, I think Jonas just wants to not talk or think too deeply about what Omar did or didn't do. Pretend it all never happened. But even if you can somehow come to believe that Omar became so desperate to get more money that he decided to rob the casino, NO WAY would that sweet kid we have seen in flashback ever KILL someone in cold blood! Melina needs to slap some sense into him.

Carvivlie- I think the answer is that Teo isn't in this for justice for Omar like Yago and Katia are. Teo works for Fidel and is there to help Fidel achieve HIS goals, whatever they are. I do think he feels bad about Lorenzo and didn't want anything to happen to him, but he's putting his mission first. If Yago had been in the same situation, he would have even blown his cover to stop Abel from killing Lorenzo.

Yeah Vivi I guess you are right about Teo. I keep hoping there are better, more positive impulses within him other than "putting the mission first". His backstory about killing his sister made me think he was looking for redemption. I guess I have given him too much credit.

Gracias Kinoma!

I couldn't believe that Abel killed once again.I thought that we would be seeing Lorenzo fora longer while ,I started to feel bad about him. It was sad when Lorenzo was admiring Abel (Even if he wasn't the investor) only for Abel to pull a trigger on him.

What most annoys me about Yago's hookup with Sara is that Yago hurts Ambar. He obviosly doesn't give two damns about her. Yago is equally deprived as Sara.

Carvivlie, do we know that Teo really killed his sister? (Like was it in a flashback that I slept through) When he told that story to Abel I took it with a grain of salt, assuming that he was just making it up to gain Abel's trust.

Julie, I thought that Teo had said something to Katia or Yago about his sister (vaguely) so when he told Abel the story I though that must be his truth. But then I think I have misinterpreted his character from the beginning. I put him in the same boat as Yago and Katia so I was looking for him to have something bad in his past that he wanted to make up for. I glommed on to his sister. I could be completely mistaken.

Count, I agree Yago is hurting Ambar and after an initial pause proceeds so he can have revenge on Lucio, Sara and Abel. However I think he'll ultimately give Sara a pass so many more will be harmed when a punch to Lucio's gut would have worked just fine for Omar's bruised male ego. So far this revenge thing is deceiving young sickly Ambar, Bruno, Alejandra & his mother threatened with a gun and Lorenzo killed.

At least he didn't sleep with her. I think he is trying to hurt her as little as possible but knows she will be affected. Though if Lucio had told Ambar that Sara put a man in jail for money and that the man subsequently died, Ambar may hurt less.

Off Topic:

Last week I discovered a cute/funny series on Netflix that I think some of you would really enjoy-- Dramaworld. It's about an American woman who is a super fan of K-dramas (Korean telenovelas), who magically gets sucked into a k-drama and becomes a character in the show. There are 10 total episodes in the series (looks like additional seasons will follow) and each episode is about 15 minutes-- super easy to watch the whole series in one sitting. If you don't have Netflix, you can watch the show for free where it was originally produced, Viki TV. Here's Episode 1: https://www.viki.com/videos/1097562v-dramaworld-episode-1

Thank you, Kinoma!

I am getting really annoyed with Yago at this point. He needs to leave Ambar alone so she can get the hell away from all of this. He doesn't care one bit about her.

Imagine when one day Yago's innocence is proven had Lorenzo killed Melina. He'd go absolutely mad with guilt. Of course, for various reasons we won't see that story play out.

In trivial matters, I'm surprised with an actual Spaniard they couldn't be bothered to make something approaching a tortilla española. A tortilla española is thick and hefty and brown. You would make a single one to feed many people, and it wouldn't flip like that. It's made with olive oil-poached potatoes and onions and is actually eaten room temperature or maybe warm, not hot. Those were thin plain-looking omelets.

-Annie

Annie, with that face, hair and bod when has Ivan Sanchez ever needed to cook! ;)

Vivi, that show sounds super cute. I will try to check it out.

Julie: I'm with Teo on the "Mission's important first".

Yago & Katia will probably find out about Lorenzo's death sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Countx: Bruno & Ale likely won't be around when this show ends because Lucio, Abel & Co., will see it to it that those 2 are dead!

Bruno still intent on clearing Omar's name regardless of the danger heading towards him.

Don't get me started on Jonas: He will NEVER accept the fact that Lucio, Sara & Abel framed Omar, etc.,

Thank you Kinoma!! What a great recap.

I kunked out towards the end...darn hotel bed is just too comfy, so I missed Abel's last scene. Did we actually SEE him shoot Lorenzo, or are we assuming he did? If they didn't actually show it, I vote he didn't. If he did....where's his anvil? He's annoying as all get out, so do it now.

Sara drives me batty, and I don't feel bad for her being played, but Yago still using Ambar increasingly bugs me. I almost wish she finds out exactly what her sister and father were like and goes away. The fact her father is insinuating their lives of crime were for because of her- GRRRR. Another one with the giant anvil waiting.

But I will add - there was that scene with Fidel last night, and just the right camera angle on Sanchez' hair, and all I could think about was that I wanted to be the one running my fingers through those waves. Lord have mercy...he's killing me in this.

I'm guessing Mati is prime for a kidnapping? Kid probably would love every minute of it and drive whoever has to watch him nuts. Or the kids learns some new tricks for his own future life of crime.

Steve, I can't imagine Bruno or Ale will die but I guess you never know.

In some respects I don't blame Jonas for believing in Omar's guilt. He knew Omar was crazy about Sara. There was so much evidence against him. And, we did see some of Omar's temper, for the first time, last night when he got mad at Lucio in the new house flashback. (It could have been Tuesday night's episode). But ultimately I think Jonas needed a way to move forward and once Omar died, it made it easier to believe he was guilty. I can't imagine believing your son innocent and then he dies in jail. The pain would be too great. We have seen Melina never get over it.

Thanks Kinoma...and thanks Princess Juju. Missed yours yesterday...sometimes I never get back to the computer after work.

I loved the musing on "repentance" like a kid's imaginary friend...can't be seen, can't be corroborated. Tried to note down the Spanish but not sure I got it all. Glad you mentioned it Kino.

And agree with you and others that the kiss, both one and two...definitely hot.

But forgive my cultural "hueco"... what's a "gif"? If I google it, will I find a definition?

Anyway, appreciate the recap. Put me in the camp that is hoping the shooting of Lorenzo is a hoax. We didn't ACTUALLY see it. Hoping, hoping, hoping that the poor kid is still okay.

Judy, a gif is a graphics file format that's good for showing screen captures on a web page. In other words, Kino was wishing to get a picture to add it to the recap.

Ah thanks Julie. Years ago, you were the one who taught me how to "copy and paste". Yep. Know nothing about computers. Mil gracias and more, amiga.

Thank you Kino.

JudyB, glad you asked about gif, I. Had no idea, a good place to ck out those things, is Urwban Dictionary, I just hadn't gotten around to it.

JudyB, it's like a short movie made up of a few frames. Here's a link to an example of a gif, which I learned was pronounced "jiff".

Copy and paste the link in your browser to see it. Might take a few seconds to load and play depending on your computer.

http://giphy.com/gifs/reaction-confused-dr-house-OOoiJPDijSG3u

Oh, wait, forgot this site it copy paste protected.

Does anyone know how to put links in the comments?

Oh, that's an animated gif. (Regular gifs are just a still picture.)

The way to put a link in the comments is to open with "a href=http://www.yoururlgoeshere.com" (in angle brackets, not quotes) and "/a" (in angle brackets, not quotes) and the text you want to appear in between.

That's all Greek to me, Julie, but I'm sure Kino will understand. And thanks for the additional info from both of you.

Variopinta...yeah, if Google doesn't have it, Urban Dictionary does I guess.

Thanks, Kinomathematika. Let me chime in that (Yeah, stop it--some more!) is too funny.

Yago, who are you kidding? You're not macking on Sara for revenge.

Teo must've thought like some of us that Abel still had some humanity left. He seemed shocked when he heard the shot ring out. I'm hoping Abel is scamming and didn't kill poor Lorenzo. Why else would he not want Teo's help to dispose of the body?
