EL SULTÁN – LUNES – Parte 1 de 3
The plot definitely thickens on so many levels!
Hurrem tells Suleiman that, if the poison had worked, she’d just be a memory to him. He tells her she will be with him forever. When she questions him, he replies that Ibrahim investigated and “they” will be punished. Hurrem retorts that Ibrahim should be punished as well because their lives were in danger. And where was Ibrahim? Suleiman, annoyed: “Ibrahim is the person I most trust in the world. He saved my life more than once.” He leaves and she realizes she may have overstepped.
Ibrahim is with Mahidevran when Suleiman knocks on his door. She hides. Suleiman looks suspicious, asking why the door was locked. Ibrahim says that he had quite a few people in here (presumably during the investigation) and he forgot to unlock the door. Ibrahim tells Suleiman that the ambassadors of Russia and Venice are here.
The Sultana (QM) orders a new room and some servants for Hurrem. She puts Firial in charge. And she tells her to tell the cook to be very careful with the food she’s served. When Firial leaves the QM says to herself that she misses the time before (before Hurrem likely). She says her son says whatever he likes to her and he breaks her heart.
Hurrem tries to keep Suleiman from meeting the visitors. He tells her Mustafa is more mature than she is, but smiling fondly. She covers her hair when Ibrahim enters.
When Suleiman leaves, she then asks Ibrahim who poisoned her. He tells her the whole thing is over now. Hurrem: “You put a stop to it? Is this to say you’re an accomplice?” He tells her to watch her language. Hurrem: “Where were you last night?” Ibrahim: “I already told you not to speak to me that way, or…” Hurrem: “Or you and the Sultana Mahidevran will try to kill me again!”
When Hurrem sees her things being moved from the “favorite” room, she fears another attempt to get her out of the palace. Firial tells her that she’s going to have new rooms. She gets triumphant and says she wants Ayse as her servant.
Mustafa wants Nasuh to play with him. For some reason Nasuh is looking through the glass panes of a door and drawing Suleiman and the other men in the room.
The Venetian guy we’ve seen before has brought something that represents the taxes that are owed to the Ottoman Empire as a sign of friendship. This Tommaso wants to facilitate commerce with Tripoli, Syria and Alexandria.
EL SULTÁN – LUNES – Parte 2 de 3
Suleiman says that the infidel Luis is awaiting news. He begins to dictate to some scribe. “Infidel King, many sultans have come to kiss the earth beneath my feet and have begged to be under my rule. And you’re still on your throne. This is only because our morals forbid pursuing fugitives. You should have sent an envoy as the others did and have proclaimed your loyalty to us. Everyone now fears us, and your arrogance doesn’t let you see the truth. Thus our empire is preparing for battle. Consider carefully your response.“
Hurrem is thrilled with her new digs. She asks for Maria. The QM comes to tell her she looks well and that the baby’s life is more important than Hurrem’s. Hurrem looks her in the eye and tells her “they” tried to poison her. The QM talks over her and denies that she was poisoned. She tells Hurrem she overate.
When the QM leaves Hurrem is joyful and tells her friend that they will share these rooms. But when Maria says that she converted to Islam and changed her name to Nurhan, Hurrem gets very upset, obviously feeling threatened. She lashes out at Firial because Firial also told her to convert to Islam to be closer to Suleiman.
When some sort of under doctor comes to give Hurrem some tonic prescribed by the head doctor, Hurrem at first refuses. But eventually she takes it. After the doctor leaves, Hurrem tells Nurhan that she knows who tried to poison her. It was Mahidevran. And she knows this because she’d have done the same thing.
When Mustafa tells Suleiman that Nasuh wouldn’t play with him, Suleiman teases him, asking Ibrahim to send for the executioner to cut off Nasuh’s head. Mustafa begs him not to do it. When the boy is gone Suleiman asks Nasuh which he prefers, the sea or the land. When Nasuh says he prefers the sea, Suleiman tells him to be ready. They’ll travel together by sea.
Hatice visits Hurrem, being very kind and considerate. However, when the topic of Ibrahim and his excellent violin playing comes up, Hurrem gets a hint of what’s going on.
Suleiman brings Mustafa to meet Hurrem. The boy says she’s swollen up and must have eaten too much! Suleiman and Hurrem laugh. Suleiman tells him his brother is in there. Mustafa says he doesn’t want a brother and runs out with Hatice.
The ever scheming Sumbul tells Ibrahim he’s sent Hurrem her best friend to stay with her, one Nurhan, who’s converted to Islam. Big knowing grins.
Hatice tells her confidant that she spoke of Ibrahim and what if Hurrem suspects?
[Has Suleiman gotten balder as the show goes on? I remember a very receding hairline at the beginning, with a bald spot on his crown. Now he’s mostly bald in the front.] Suleiman tells Piri Pasha that Rhodes is sacred and the bandits live like kings [?] They attack muslim boats, except for those of Captain Kurtoglu Mulnealdin Bey. Then he says something about ruined boats that I did not understand.
EL SULTÁN – LUNES – Parte 3 de 3
Suleiman tells Piri Pasha that some sultan named Jem was held ransom on Rhodes. Suleiman’s grandfather sent lots of gold. Jem’s grandchildren are still prisoners on Rhodes. Freeing them is a priority for Suleiman.
Hurram makes Nurhan taste her food, while Firial looks on disgusted.
Hatice overhears the QM talk to Suleiman about finding a husband for her. She retreats to the corridor. Ibrahim comes around the corner and stands beside Hatice. They have a discreet conversation about the possibility of her being married off. Ibrahim says he has hope. Hurrem comes around the corner and sees them. She grasps what’s going on.
Suleiman tells Kasim Pasha that he’ll be in charge when he goes to Rhodes in the spring. Kasim humbly asks about the bride the QM said she’d found for his son Azur. When you were on campaign, Azur fell in love with her. She’s a Russian concubine named Hurrem!
Ibrahim finds Hurrem near that corridor and asks her how long she’d been there. She replies that he didn’t notice her because he was occupied with the Sultana. He glares at her and tells her to keep quiet for her own health. She tells him she goes wherever she likes. “Don’t worry. I won’t tell Suleiman what I just saw. Or maybe later I will, if it suits me. After she walks off, Ibrahim says to himself that Mahidevran was right. They must get rid of this serpent.
Suleiman strides into his mother’s room and tells all the women there to leave. He’s furious with his mother. He tells her that Hurrem is his wife and how dare she try to marry her to someone else. The QM looks defiant and says: “Well, why haven’t you announced this then?” He replies that one day he will tell everyone.
Hurrem gloats to Nurhan about her weapon against Ibrahim. Nurhan thinks she’s playing with fire. Hurrem replies that, if Ibrahim married Hatice, he’d have more influence.
Ibrahim tells Sumbul to prepare the private bedroom of Suleiman. Ibrahim feels he needs to live a bit. He tells Sumbul to prepare the friend of Hurrem. Sumbul looks very frightened by this order.

¡Muchísimas gracias, novelera, for this excellent recap!
Alas, Hurrem is becoming more arrogant, immature, and insecure each day. She tells Firial she wants Daye to serve her. She intends to disrupt Ibrahim and Hatice's hope to marry because she fears that as Hatice's husband, Ibrahim would have more influence (which is probably true). She's really looking for trouble by constantly confronting and criticizing Ibrahim. Maria tries to make her see this, but to no avail. And now Hurrem is even uneasy with Maria/Nurhan, fearing that she converted to Islam to bring her closer to Suleiman. (Of course, I don't really know why Maria converted...) Hurrem insists that Nurhan taste the food before she (Hurrem) eats it. She then claims she's just joking, but only after Nurhan has taken a bite and swallowed. And of course Ibrahim's insistence that Maria/Nurhan be "prepared" to come to Suleiman will truly enrage Hurrem and will probably increase her distrust of both Ibrahim and Nurhan. Oy!
I still don't understand Nasuh's role. His drawings will probably turn out to be important, but right now I don't see how.
I'm also unclear on why Ibrahim and Sumbul exchange "big knowing grins" about Nurhan's being sent to be with Hurrem. I could understand it if they were grinning over Nurhan's being prepared to be Suleiman's sex toy of the day, but they are grinning simply over her going to live with Hurrem. ???
Juanita, IIRC, the first grins between Sumbul and Ibrahim were when Sumbul told Ibrahim that Maria had converted and was now Nurhan. Actually Sumbul's expression was more of a smirk. The grin was from Ibrahim. This was earlier and before the announcement by Ibrahim that he wanted her sent to Suleiman. I think Ibrahim thought of a way to take Hurrem down a peg right then. And Sumbul also thought that. I don't really know how Suleiman is going to react.
You are right that Hurrem is alienating everyone. I find it hard to imagine where this story is going, unless it's to a comeuppance and better behavior.
thanks novelera! you are really in tune with the story and it comes across so well in your recaps.
Kurtoğlu Muslihiddin Reis is an interesting character("Kurtoğlu means Son of Kurt (Wolf) in Turkish") a privateer operating in the western coasts of the Mediterranean Sea, based in Bizerte, Tunisia, who gave the Sultan "one fifth of his profits", and at one time "assembled a fleet of some thirty ships, carrying 6,000 corsairs". He became "an admiral of the Ottoman navy".
Maria's new given name, Nurhan, seems to have some significance but wasn't explained to us.
Hurrem seems to spend her days alienating herself from everyone, she really is not a likable character, and being totally alone she is totally vulnerable, these people in the palace rule over life and death, there will most likely come a time when the Sultan will eye another younger favorite amongst his steady supply of slave girls.
Ibrahim who started out as an unquestionable loyal and honorable guy seems to be sliding to the dark side as well, how can it be that our royal family is not perfect?
Nurhan tells Firial that she can't leave Hurrem, who is asleep. Firial tells her to prepare herself. She's going to the private chamber. "The Sultán wants you." Nurhan looks stunned.
Ibrahim tells the Sultán that it looks like the Rhodes castle will be easier to conquer than the one at Belgrade. The Sultán replies, "In that case, be ready with a fleet that will tear them apart. The Rhodes' pirates will know the power of the Ottoman cannons. We'll see what the Grand Master does after we take his castle." Ibrahim then suggests that the Sultán take a break that night. Suleiman replies, "I can't take breaks. I have work to do. But you can leave if you're tired." Ibrahim tells him, "I prepared a beautiful girl for you. If you don't like her, tell me and I'll take her away." Suleiman asks who she is. Ibrahim tells him "you could say she's a nymph (ninfa)." Suleiman asks that she be sent in.
Firial wishes Nurhan good luck and tells her that perhaps she'll be like Hurrem. Nurhan replies that she doesn't want to be like Hurrem. Hurrem will kill her if she finds out. Firial tells her not to worry. Just don't speak. Be obedient and flirt with him. Somewhat to my surprise, Nurhan is smiling as she goes with Firial to the Sultán.
Hurrem, lying in bed, asks Nurhan to give her water. When Nurhan doesn't appear, Hurrem calls her name loudly. She realizes that Nurhan isn't there. With some effort, Hurrem gets out of bed, leaves the room, and calls again for Nurhan.
Nurhan enters the Sultán's private chamber. Suleiman turns to look at her. She keeps her face looking down. She approaches Suleiman, kneels before him, and kisses the hem of his robe.
Meanwhile, Hurrem goes down a set of stairs and calls for Nurhan with increasing urgency. She's clearly in pain. "It's coming!" she says. She screams. People hear her and come rushing toward her. Someone realizes that she's in labor and asks that they call for a doctor. "I want Suleiman!" says Hurrem. She screams. She's told, "Push harder." More screams. More pushing.
The doctor says that the umbilical cord is wrapped around the baby's neck. It's not clear that Hurrem has heard this. She wants to know whether the baby is a boy or a girl. No one answers.
Ibrahim tells Nurhan (who is all dressed up for the Sultán) to go to Hurrem. (It's not clear to me whether Nurhan and Suleiman have Done The Deed, but surely Nurhan's coming to see Hurrem while dressed up as she is would likely raise questions in Hurrem's mind.)
Ibrahim tells Suleiman that Hurrem is giving birth.
I had almost decided that the baby was dead, strangled by his own umbilical cord, when suddenly there's the sound of a baby crying. Hurrem is told, "It's a beautiful boy." Hurrem asks to hold him. Firial starts to bring the baby to her, but the QM (Queen Mother) says "This is not the time." She tells Firial to dress the baby. (It seems clear that the QM is acting vindictively.)
Someone comes to tell Mahidevran that Hurrem has given birth to a boy. She tells Mustafa that she'll never leave him, and that he's the Sultán's son and will rule someday.
Suleiman comes (finally) to see Hurrem. Hurrem asks where he was and tells him "I cried for you." He replies (somewhat lamely, it seems to me) "I'm here now, my love." Hurrem tells him that the Sultana (in this case, the QM) took the baby away before she could hold him. Suleiman orders that the baby be brought. He holds the baby and sings to him.
Mahidevran comes into the room where Hurrem is. The Sultán then leads everyone present (the QM, Mahidevran, Hatice, and Firial) in prayers for the baby. We learn that the Sultán has named him Mehmed.
The QM yells at Nurhan for not being with Hurrem when she needed her. Sumbul tells the QM that His Majesty requested Nurhan. After Sumbul and Nurhan have left, the QM asks Daye whether Hurrem knows that Nurhan was with the Sultán. "Of course not," replies Daye. "She would have killed her." Daye then tells the QM that Ibrahim asked Sumbul to send for Nurhan. The QM thinks about this and then says, "That means that Ibrahim doesn't like Hurrem."
Sumbul tells Nurhan to say nothing. One of the harem women asks her whether Hurrem gave birth to a boy or a girl. Nurhan says nothing. Sumbul yells at the woman who asked the question.
Hurrem asks Suleiman to stay. He tells her she should sleep, and he'll be back tomorrow. He leaves, and Hurrem turns to Nurhan and tells her she looked for her all night. Hurrem tells her, "You'll look after the Sultán's son." She adds that she's very sleepy.
We see Mahidevran looking even more demonic than usual. She comes into the room where Hurrem is sleeping with her son next to her in the bed. I'm thinking, why isn't Nurhan there? How can they leave the Sultán's son so unprotected in a palace rife with intrigue and malice? Mahidevran moves closer to the bed, picks up a pillow and puts it over the baby's face. Hurrem wakes up. She stares at Mahidevran and tries to scream, but no sound comes out. We then see her wake up again, and we realize that Hurrem probably had been having a nightmare. However, the baby isn't in the bed. Hurrem freaks out. She lights into Nurhan: "Why weren't you here?" Hurrem is told that the doctor has the baby. This doesn't really calm her down.
Mahidevran and Ibrahim talk. Mahidevran is worried that Hurrem's baby will be Mustafa's rival. Ibrahim assures her that he'll keep his promise, "I'll make her (Hurrem) crawl after you. I guarantee it."
Ibrahim then goes to see Suleiman and gets bawled out. "How could you leave without telling me?" Suleiman asks. Ibrahim replies that he went to check on the baby, and he reports that the baby is said to be in good health. The topic changes to warfare. Suleiman shows Ibrahim a map of Rhodes made by Captain Piri (whoever he may be). Suleiman stresses that they must know the island as well as they know Suleiman's palace. Every detail. Ibrahim tells him, "Our men will draw up a map of Rhodes and present it to you." Apparently Nasuh will be involved in this endeavor. Suleiman tells Ibrahim, "I'm impressed with your mind. I hope you use it only to serve your Sultán."
An angry Hurrem bursts into the room where the QM, Firial, and some others are, including baby Mehmed. "Where is my son?" Hurrem yells. The QM tells Firial to take the baby. "We can't have him in the hands of a concubine." Hurrem apologizes to the QM and explains that the baby wasn't in her bed, and she was frightened. Her apology falls on deaf ears. The QM again tells Firial, "Take him away. We can't trust him to a crazy woman." Hurrem slowly retreats.
Sumbul distributes gold coins to the harem women to celebrate Mehmed's birth. One of the women says that this is the first benefit they've ever had from that lunatic (i.e., Hurrem). Daye tosses more coins to the women from the balcony.
Hurrem is breastfeeding Mehmed. She says that she only sees him when she feeds him. She tells her baby, "if you cry and are hungry, they'll have to bring you to me." She adds, "Grow quickly, darling. You'll be Sultán and rule the world."
Nurhan hesitantly says to Hurrem, "I need to tell you something." Of course, this being a telenovela, her words immediately trigger the arrival of Hatice, bringing a mother-of-pearl cradle for the baby and an end to what might have been Nurhan's confession.
There's news from Rhodes. Someone hands Suleiman a message from the Grand Master. Basically, he says somewhat snidely that Suleiman is sure that he'll be victorious before the war has even started. He seems to regard Suleiman as inexperienced and naive. He adds, "I wonder whether your dreams will come true. Will you return with no regrets?" Suleiman thinks the Grand Master is an idiot who knows nothing about Suleiman's dreams.
Hatice is sitting next to Mehmed's cradle when Mustafa comes in. He asks Hatice, "Does my father still love me?" Hatice replies, "Of course. And your brother will love you." A bit later, Hurrem says to Hatice, "If you decide to do it, I'll help you." Hatice says she doesn't understand. Hurrem insists, "Yes you do. I'm speaking about Ibrahim."
Kasim Pasha comes to see Suleiman. Suleiman tells him "I'll never forget your good deeds, but now it's time to retire." He tells Kasim Pasha that he'll receive 200,000 gold coins. Kasim Pasha isn't pleased. He asks whether he did something wrong. (Yup. You said your son was in love with Hurrem.) Suleiman assures him that he did nothing wrong, but it's best that he retire. "As you wish," replies Kasim Pasha. "May Allah keep you safe." (Hmm...is that a threat?)
Hurrem is getting antsy. "All I do is eat and sleep. I want to get up." Nurhan asks her not to go out (I'm not sure why.). Hurrem reminds her that she was going to say something, she was going to apologize. Again, the conversation goes nowhere. Sumbul comes in and announces, "You have become a Sultana. The Sultán has sent you gifts worthy of a Sultana." Apparently the gifts include ornately decorated clothes, a fur, and what looks like a jeweled knife holder, though I'm probably mistaken about what this is. The Sultán then appears. Sumbul signals to Nurhan to leave. Hurrem asks whether she's really now a Sultana. Suleiman gives what seems to me a devious reply: "You're the Sultana of my heart."
Ibrahim comes to see Firial and tells her he wants her to do something for him. We'll have to wait until tomorrow (or later?) to find out what he has in mind.

thanks so much Juanita for yet another beautify detailed recap!
all I can add is what was not spoken, I think Sulieman is seeing the other sides to Ibrahim and because of his respect is trying to rein him in, when the Sultan sees Nurhan after they were together I think he recognized her and got what Ibrahim had done.

note: the tv schedule is showing "Decisiones" doubling up, moving into the "El Sultan" time slot starting Monday.
on the original series from wiki,
Muhteşem Yüzyıl (el Sultan) ran for 4 seasons, January 5, 2011 – June 11, 2014, 139 episodes, 90-150 minutes each, (that would be around 278 hours).
Fabulous recap, Juanita. Again, I'm jammed up at work with no time to say much. I found the QM very nasty last night. I know Hurrem has been insufferable, but depriving her of her baby, except for feeding, is really cruel.
Suleiman was different last night. He seemed rather brusque with everyone. He's starting to demonstrate an autocratic manner. And I also noticed "sultana of my heart".
Thanks very much, deb and novelera, for your comments. I confess that what I'm most focused on right now is deb's bombshell about El Sultán:
the tv schedule is showing "Decisiones" doubling up, moving into the "El Sultan" time slot starting Monday
I just went to Zap2It to see what they showed. I could check through Dec. 30, and starting next week there is NO MENTION of El Sultán anywhere!!
Wow! I have no interest in watching Decisiones and a strong interest in NOT watching El Señor del los Cielos. Damn!!
Thank you Novelera and Juanita for the wonderful Monday and Tuesday recaps.
Hurrem is hard to take and I think it's going to get a lot harder as time goes on. She is extremely jealous of anyone and everyone, even little Mustafa. She didn't like it when Hatice told him he was the apple of his father's eye. Waiting for her to kill Nurhan or have her killed. I looked up Nurhan and saw multiple meanings. The one that stood out was "shining queen". No wonder Hurrem was upset.
Right now this show seems more about Hurrem than Suleiman. Her influence over Suleiman is a danger to everyone in the palace. This mighty sultan can win wars but it seems he can easily be manipulated by Hurrem.
Yes, deb's bombshell!? Looking at the Titan TV Dec 23 listing for NYC, it shows Sultan at 8 pm
dondi356
Dondi, what is Titan TV? I watch El Sultán on Telemundo East; i.e., I record the DirecTV East Coast feed at 5:00, which is 8:00 on the East Coast. I'm still at work at that hour, so when I get home the recording is already there.
If Telemundo is showing two hours of Decisiones next week, then I don't know how or when I could see El Sultán.
Sometimes both Spanish Language networks have moved shows to the daytime if the ratings aren't there.
Is it possible they are skipping Christmas week for the novela, and it would resume the week following?
If it's just yanked, I'm going to be furious.
It's an online TV Guide: https://titantv.com/default.aspx
The listing is set by zipcode and by provider--broadcast, cable, satellite
The Telemundo site has double Decisiones on Dec 23 but I have sometimes found that their listing doesn't match with my local listing. I suppose if there was a last minute change by Telemundo, it might not be updated by Titan or other online guides.
novelera, what does the DirecTV programming guide say for Dec 23?
I hope that it's only for the holidays, but Telemundo has pulled some crazy stuff before.
dondi356
Just to clarify what I said before, I checked the listings on Zap2It for every day next week and for Monday, Dec. 30. I checked not just the 8 thru 11pm listings, but also the afternoon and late night/early morning listings. There was NADA for El Sultán. Grrr.
I just had one more thought. It's clear that Decisiones has to vacate the 9 pm time slot on Jan. 13, when La Doña begins. Perhaps Telemundo is doubling up Decisiones now so that it will be done by Jan. 13. It's remotely possible that El Sultán could resume at 8 pm on the 13th. Yeah, that's pretty far-fetched, but Telemundo has done other bizarre things, so who knows?
"Operación Pacífico", has finished filming in Colombia.
"Enemigo íntimo 2", has finished filming in Mexico.

Hurrem learns that Firial told the women in the harem that the Sultán was in his private chamber the night that Hurrem gave birth. Firial comes into the room and confirms what Hurrem has just learned. Hurrem wants to know who the Sultán was with. Firial replies that she wasn't told who it was, but in any event it's not Hurrem's business to know who he was with.
Hurrem then asks Nurhan. Nurhan tells her to forget about it, the Sultán can choose whoever he wishes. No, Hurrem wants Nurhan to find out who it was. She promises to reward Nurhan for the information. Nurhan asks what Hurrem will do once she knows. "I'll kill her," replies Hurrem, "like this," grabbing Nurhan by the neck and choking her. Finally, she lets go of Nurhan's neck and gives her a glass of water to drink. "You're my closest friend," she tells Nurhan. [With friends like this....] Nurhan is reluctant, but Hurrem insists, claiming that if she doesn't find out, Nurhan could be sold as a slave.
Hurrem and Mehmed come to see the QM (Queen Mother), who notes that Hurrem is wearing fur. Hurrem informs her that Suleiman gave the fur to her. He told her that only people of the royal dynasty wear it. The QM is oohing and aahing over cute little Mehmed. While she's doing this, Mahidevran enters the room. The QM gives Hurrem a necklace and congratulates her. The baby starts to cry. Mahidevran asks, "Shouldn't he be with someone who can take better care of him?" Hurrem informs her that Mehmed is hungry, but her breastmilk will make him content. She leaves to go breastfeed the baby.
Nasuh sees Ibrahim go into a shop that sells jewelry and other fine items. Ibrahim looks at pins and admires a special pin in the shape of a pink butterfly. Nasuh comes into the shop and greets Ibrahim. He admires the pin. In the next scene, Hatice receives a box with the pin and a note, which she reads aloud. It starts, "My heart flutters like butterfly wings." [Need I say more?]
Ibrahim asks the Sultán whether he'd like a woman. Suleiman says Ibrahim should tell Sumbul to get Nurhan ready. [Oh, Suleiman, you two-timing (bleep)]. Ibrahim smirks; Viewerville snarls.
The QM sees Hatice wearing the pink butterfly pin. She asks who gave it to her. Hurrem pipes up, "I did." Hatice and Hurrem exchange smiles.
Sumbul tells Nurhan to prepare to go to the Sultán that night. Nurhan says she doesn't want to, Hurrem will kill her. Sumbul suggests that perhaps Nurhan will become pregnant and become Sultana Nurhan. Nurhan seems to like this idea.
The QM tells Hatice not to trust Hurrem. Moreover, she doesn't need Hurrem's gifts. Hatice gets angry. "I know I'm a burden now." She says perhaps she will leave and go to Edirne Palace.
Nurhan looks happy as she walks with Firial to the Sultán's chamber. She enters, bows, kisses his hem, looks at him and smiles.
Hurrem learns that Sumbul came and took Nurhan away in the afternoon. Later, she sees that Nurhan's bed is empty.
We see Nurhan putting her clothes back on. Suleiman comes over to her and gives her a fur shawl to keep her warm in the cold, snowy weather. Nurhan returns to Hurrem's room. She tiptoes in, hoping not to wake the sleeping Hurrem. Of course, this being a telenovela, Hurrem awakens. "You were with the Sultán, weren't you?" she asks. "You were my only friend. Why did you betray me?" She starts to hit Nurhan. Another woman tries to stop Hurrem, but Hurrem orders her to leave. The woman runs for help from Sumbul and Daye as Hurrem continues to hit Nurhan. Sumbul and Daye come and separate Hurrem and Nurhan. Hurrem accuses Daye of being behind this.
The QM tells Daye to take the baby from Hurrem and not give him back to her until she is sane. Hurrem pleads with the QM not to take her son from her. She promises to cause no more problems. Finally, the QM relents. "This is your last chance. I won't have mercy if you do this again. I'll have the Sultán punish you."
Hurrem and Hatice visit the same shop that Ibrahim went to to buy the butterfly pin. Hurrem wants to buy an ornate mirror for Suleiman. "He will see my face when he looks in the mirror, and he won't forget me." Hurrem also sees some flasks containing liquid. She picks one up. She's immediately warned to put it down, it contains poison. If it touches the skin, it can cause a terrible rash.
At the same visit, Hatice buys a small, attractive box.
Ibrahim sees Hatice wearing the butterfly pin. She tells him she wears it all the time. She then gives him the box so he will remember her. She tells him they might not see each other again. The Sultana wants to arrange a marriage for her. Ibrahim asks, "Who is the lucky man?"
We then see the QM telling Suleiman that she wants to arrange a marriage for Hatice with Mehmet Shalobi, who comes from a royal family and is "on our level." He's currently teaching Mustafa. He's courteous, responsible, someone worthy of being a son-in-law (yerno).
Hurrem sees the fur that Suleiman gave Nurhan. She asks where Nurhan is sleeping that night and is told, in Ayse's room. She wants to go to her to give her the fur, since it's cold. When she sees that she won't be allowed to go, she asks Firial to take the fur to Nurhan and "tell her that I forgive her." Firial says she's not sure that Nurhan will forgive her.
Hurrem is in the Sultán's room. She has brought the mirror and set it up. Suleiman comes in, and Hurrem tells him that the mirror is so that he will always think of her when he looks at it.
Firial returns the fur to Nurhan and tells her that Hurrem forgives her. Nurhan seems especially happy with the fur. She lies down, wraps the fur around her neck, and kisses it.
Hatice goes out in the snow. She looks up at the place where Ibrahim usually plays the violin, but he's not there now.
Nurhan awakens from sleep because she's very uncomfortable. The fur is causing a nasty rash. She runs to a mirror and screams. She sees what looks like blood covering her cheek, and she cries out that her face has been disfigured.
Hurrem tells Suleiman she wants to have another child of his. She asks him whether he loves her, and then asks how much he loves her. In bed, she and Suleiman hear a commotion outside. Hurrem tells Suleiman not to worry about the noise outside.
The commotion was caused by the people trying to help Nurhan. A little later, we see a doctor applying some kind of medication to Nurhan's face. I suspect Hurrem is well aware of what's happening.
Hatice continues to stand outside as the snow falls. She keeps looking up at where Ibrahim usually is. Suddenly, he comes. I think he sees her, but I'm not sure. All I know is that she collapses on the ground and the episode ends.

terrific recap Juanita!
and what a terrible story, Nurhan was the only nice person we have met so far, as the girls were saying, who would want her now.
and now that Ibrahim has Hurrem wound up, did he tell Mahidevran that it was a good time to get rid of her.
I think Hatice plucked something off her skirt that went into the box for Ibrahim.
Thanks very much, deb. I agree that the story is becoming harder and harder to enjoy, as there are increasingly fewer likeable characters.
I thought it was Mahidevran who said to Ibrahim that with the disturbed state that Hurrem is in, now would be the perfect time to get rid of her.
I think you're right about Hatice plucking something from her skirt to put into the box for Ibrahim.
Is it possible that we really have only two more episodes scheduled? Arrgh.
Thanks so much for the fine recap, Juanita. You've outdone yourself this week.
Yep, that was difficult to watch. It did seem to me that Suleiman is still in love with Hurrem. But apparently he's fine with something on the side.
I have a vague memory of someone saying something about quarentona or some such word. The internet tells me that some Islamic cultures consider that a woman should be isolated for 40 days after giving birth. Presumably this means no sex.
I went through the DirecTV schedule all through next week and the Monday following (12/30) and it's Decisiones in the 8:00 and 9:00 time periods.
So I can only assume there will be no more El Sultán for the foreseeable future. I can't figure out from Telemundo's site where to email them with "issues". If anyone else knows, post it and I'll write them.
Although Ibrahim and Sumbul's plot to get Nurhan into Suleiman's bed preceded the actual birth, I assume her subsequent visit or visits could have been during this after giving birth period and thus justifiable in this culture. Although, having a harem probably means he has the right to any woman any time.
I am assuming that period is over since Hurrem is now with Suleiman again.
Thanks very much, novelera, for your helpful comments. I wouldn't be surprised to find that Islam and perhaps other religions as well prohibit a woman's having sex for an extended period after childbirth (though IMHO "isolation" seems needlessly extreme). And I can imagine that sex with a woman about to give birth might be difficult and perhaps ill-advised. My beef with Suleiman isn't so much that he had sex with another woman--it's WHICH woman. He surely knows damn well that Nurhan is a close friend of Hurrem, and that Hurrem would be very hurt if her best friend had sex with the man she loves and whose child she is carrying. Certainly Nurhan knows this, but she's in a difficult position. Suleiman, however, could have sex with any woman he wished. He needn't pick the one person who would cause Hurrem great distress.
I realize that to some degree Suleiman has been set up by Ibrahim, who certainly does NOT care about Hurrem's feelings. Indeed, I suspect that the more she suffers, the happier he is. But Suleiman knows who Nurhan is. When she appears before him, he could gently send her away, especially the first time. The fact that he did not makes him eligible for my mierda/merde/Scheisse list. Alas, that list is growing longer day by day.
One further note about scheduling. Last night Telemundo flashed an announcement on the screen about a "special edition" preview of La Doña to take place on Monday, Dec. 23. I think it was set for 9 pm, but I'm not sure.
Thank you Juanita for another excellent recap.
So now Hurrem's only "friend" is Hatice, who is likely to get used and abused by Hurrem's schemes. QM warned Hatice about Hurrem but I don't think she will take the advice.
I checked a few online guides and they all list something different regarding Telemundo's schedule. To confirm what Alexander Velasquez and Juanita posted above, I did see a promo last night for La Doña Special Edition, Dec 23 at 9pm.
I can put up a short recap of tonight's show and recap the (last?) episode on Friday.
dondi356
Thanks very much, dondi356, for your comments and, of course, for your offer to recap what are probably the remaining two episodes! That would be great!
THANKS FOR RECAPS..!!

Juanita, I may have missed something. I was sure that Suleiman had no idea who Nurhan was and did not necessarily want to hurt her by bedding a friend.
