Barrera blogging seems to die - due to lack of interest

Hello,

As far as I can tell, nobody is watching this telenovela - the comments all say "I can't stand the show, but I come visit your site to read the recaps."

But the recappers don't seem to be able to stand the show either.

I'll tape tonight's episode and I'll blog it but unless I see some kind of concerted enthusiasm, this is the last time for me.

If a better show comes along, let us know!

I hope Chris will keep it up with La Fea. Maybe I'll even start watching it.

have you heard of "azul tequila"? It's a novela that is starting on tele azteca or telemundo I'm not sure, it seems to be a "Novela de epoca" with the actress that played Ruby in the novela of the same name, it sound interesting....
Maricruz :(

I checked it out - on Comcast, we have a channel called Azteca America, I was unaware of it before. Their website http://www.aztecaamerica.com/ doesn't even mention this show, but I looked at the TV listings and it's there. Maybe it just started this week? Tonight?

Oh, also, El Club de Las Feas would welcome you all with open arms if you choose to defect to La Fea. Be warned, my recaps are still a bit behind. You have all had such nice things to say about my recaps so I still like to do them, even with the delay. I'll do the best I can to keep them up.

Hi Melinama: I'm back from England. I guess Barerra wasn't on last Friday due to some World Cup thing. I will keep on watching it and blogging it if I have time. I have invested sufficient time in the story and the characters to see it to the end. That said, I don't watch it carefully like I did Alborada. Speaking of Alborada, I was reading an article in the New Yorker about the declining ratings and problems with programming on network television and the author said something like, "even the ratings for the Spanish soap opera Alborada on Univision were higher than the ratings for some network television shows." I'm sure that isn't true for Barerra ;-)

I watched Azul Tequila last night. I very much enjoyed that it is a period piece, fun costumes, cute dudes, the villain looks and acts kind of like Freddy Mercury. The best part was that they were preparing for a wedding feast and the courtyard was filled with people cooking all kinds of cool food in ollas and pots over open pits. I love food-of-the-era portrayals. Of course the heroine Azul is being forced to marry "Freddy" but she really loves his hot, tortured younger brother. All the while a laborer uprising is torching the agave fields and coming down the road to disrupt the wedding.

The problems: 1) Azteca does not have closed captioning. As a beginning Spanish student I still have a difficult time comprehending all that is being said without the assistance of the written word, so I would not feel comfortable translating for the blog. However I would happily read others' translations and possibly even guest-recap in a pinch (better than nothing). 2) There is no mean old lady in black carrying a big stick. (OK, just kidding with that last one.)

Thank you Maricruz for the suggestion. It is a good one.

For the time being I believe I will continue to recap Barrera for the reasons that Jean states. In retrospect, the most odious qualities of Barrera are also its most endearing and amusing.

I watch at Barrera and appreciate any blogging since my Spanish is "beginner" also. However I LOVE LA FEA! If the club las feas can laugh at themselves, so can I. Thank You Chris for you wonderful recaps - equally funny! Whatever is blogged, I'll continue to visit. I love reading the comments, free Spanish lessons, history lessons, etc. Thanks for all you bloggers dedication.
Rhonda

Azul Tequila sounds pretty cool, I may check it out tonight!

I looked on alma-latina.net website. It says that azul was filmed in 1998. That's probably why there are no subtitulos. It got really high marks from the reviewers on her site. They give just general synopsies of the entire series as whole not individual episodes like caray caray. They also gave good reviews to amor real, albo, embrazame muy fuerte, and la usurpadora so I trust their judgement. It also looks from the images like there is some guapo hotness! I am jumping on board the azul train, baby! Who's coming with me???

We don't get Azul Tequila on our cable here in NJ so I couldn't participate even if I wanted to. No titles would make it extra hard too.
I see that Heridas de l'Amor is coming "muy pronto" on Univision. I guess Peregrina must be finishing up soon.

Ive been somewhere...Im not really sure where.... SO I missed all the discussion. Barrera is one LONG joke of a telenovela. I would love to blog something better. And I would love to blog something in unison with you all. See its fun to see other peoples point of view on things that you personally have missed. I will continue to do Barrera until something better comes along. Maybe the show that will follow Peregrina will be worth jumping? I will also check the Azul show to see whats going on there.

A large part of this is I feel bad for skipping the last two wednesdays. I taped the show. One I even watched but my life got in the way. Bad Bad me.

Melinama your humor is incredible so I will miss your blogs. Im going to keep my fingers crossed that we can all join up on something new and good. Best!
