Mundo de Fieras, 10/25/06

We open with Demian telling Regina that it is her fault and only her fault that JC has gone away from her.

Paulina and JC are in their office pretending to concentrate on business. Gabriel arrives. JC introduces himself. He has a thought bubble that Gabriel is his father, his real father.

Demian has told Tiberio to set up an office for JC in the company because he is going to ask JC to work for him. Tiberio wants to know why the sudden change in Demian’s desire to have JC around. Demian tells Tiberio to follow orders and not ask questions.

Demian has a thought bubble explaining that his motive for having JC around is to hurt Regina and Gabriel. Demian will make them pay by using JC, Regina’s bastard son.

Tiberio is writhing around in hatred and jealousy for JC. He has endured humiliation etc. from Demian with the promise (at least in his mind) that he would inherit Demian’s empire. Now JC has turned up and it looks like all the humiliation was for nothing.

Otilia has come for money from Federico. He says that he doesn’t have it now. Otilia suggests that Federico get it from Miriam. When Federico asks why Miriam would give him money, Otilia says that he and Miriam share a secret – the fact that Joselyn is their daughter. Federico is impactado.

At Miriam’s house of fashion, Joselyn is a happy employee. Miriam is worried that something will happen, Joselyn will have hysterics and blab all their secrets.

Rogelio is boasting to someone on the phone that he can make his wife do anything. Off the phone, he has a thought bubble about his concern about what Diana might tell Gabriel and ruin him.

Soraya advises Diana to tell Rogelio’s father everything. Diana says she needs time – she still loves Rogelio. Diana asks Soraya about her son, Jorge. Soraya says that just the other day she saw him from a distance. She asks Diana to help her find him.

Giorgio(Jorge) is sucking up to Joselyn at work by flattering her and she tells him that he has been a good boy and can take her out to have some fun.

Otilia threatens to tell Clemente that Joselyn isn’t his daughter if Federico and Miriam don’t cough up the dough.

JC meets Leo in a bar. He doesn’t have any friends in Mexico and would like to Leo as his friend. Leo accepts. Leo asks JC how he is doing. Not so good, says JC. His mother confessed that she still loves Gabriel and that has confirmed JC’s belief that Demian was right and Gabriel is his father. Leo gives JC good advice – why don’t you talk to your mother about your suspicions. [or get a DNA test] Of course, JC doesn’t agree to this sensible suggestion. What reason would Demian have for lying to him about this? [JC seems to show a pathetic lack of imagination here. He knows that Demian hates his mother. So wouldn’t alienating JC from his mother be just the kind of thing that Demian would do???]

Regina tells Simona that she is sure that Demian did something to turn JC against her. But what, what could he have told JC????

While giving JC good advice, Leo has a thought bubble – If he fathered a bastard, Gabriel is not the good guy that he appears to be - all the more reason to get MA away from him.

Gabriel tells Luisito that he will try and have dinner with his family as often as he can. Then he tells Luisito that a doctor who is a specialist in whatever is wrong with the kid is in Mexico and he has an appointment for L-ito to seem him. L-ito is ecstatic – maybe he could run and play without crutches like other children. [Jeez, nothing like getting the kid’s hopes up for something that might not be successful.]

Otilia is now making her blackmail request directly to Miriam. Joselyn comes in and they all make nice. Once again, Joselyn tells Federico how she feels so much more for him than for her father. Then Clemente comes in and asks what is going on.

Dolores is hanging around outside Demian’s office building in her nun’s outfit. Tiberio appears and she appears to be about to have a conversation with him when Demian appears and asks if she fancies Tiberio as a man. Tiberio is shocked and Dolores just lowers her eyes. [Maybe she has taken a vow of silence.] Tiberio asks her if it is true that she likes him as a man and finally she speaks. ‘It is an infamy, an infamy,’ she stammers and leaves. Demian and Tiberio are convulsed with laughter.

Gabriel, Paulina, Pedro, Diana and Luisito are having lunch. MA comes in with a pitcher of water. They intreat her to sit down with them and Luisito makes gag-making comments like, ‘we are all a family now.’

Demian offers JC a job in his company. JC says sorry he has a job right now – he has signed a contract. Demian says that his offer won’t be open forever. JC once again declines and Demian says that he will regret this.

With an extreme close-up of Dolores’ make-up free eyes, she tells the mother superior that she understands that to confront Demian, she cannot have any fear.

Tiberio is driving with Karen when he sees some young girls in their extremely short school uniforms. He can’t take his eyes off them and his thought bubble is spoken in a distorted low voice: he doesn’t want to go back to when he was attracted to young girls. He doesn’t want to feel that again.

After lunch, MA reproaches Gabriel for making her sit at the table. She is part of the help. Gabriel starts to tell her how important she is to the family when Nicolas comes in. He asks MA to have coffee with him. She is confused.

Karen asks Tiberio why it is so surprising that Demian is being nice to his son. Tiberio says that when JC was in Barcelona, they didn’t get along and now everything is changed. Karen suggests that since JC is Demian’s son, it is reasonable that would change his opinion when JC was with him. Tiberio says no, Demian never changes his opinion without a very good reason. Then Karen asks why the Demian/JC situation has Tiberio so upset and Tiberio confesses to her that Demian is playing with his future. Tiberio has invested too much time and effort to lose it all now. Karen advises him to lighten up and enjoy himself with her. They kiss.

Nicolas asks why Gabriel told him with such emphasis not to go out with MA. Gabriel doesn’t answer. When Nicolas encounters MA in the hall when he is leaving, he asks her out again and she accepts.

Karen and Tiberio tipsily exit the restaurant. Tiberio would like to continue the afternoon’s enjoyment with her but Karen says no. She is interested in someone else.

Gabriel notices that Diana was quiet at lunch. He gives her the opportunity to rat out her boorish husband but she won’t take it.

Continuing on his fatherly rounds, Gabriels chats up Pedro about his job as a freelance book editor and says he ought to go out and meet women.

Giorgio takes Joselyn to his love nest. [It looks like a third-rate motel.]

Rogelio sends Diana a valuable necklace. He calls her to see if she got the gift [and the message]. She tells him she cannot accept the necklace and by the way, she is going to tell his father everything and then leave the house. Rogelio gives her a line about how he has changed and is ashamed of what happened at the restaurant, etc. etc. I am sorry to say that Diana buys this pretty much. She agrees not to tell his father about what happened and to go out with Rogelio this evening. [Bad choice, Diana].

Luisito suggests that MA go with them to the doctor’s office. Gabriel is only too happy to agree. ‘What about mother?’ asks Luisito. ‘She is busy in Miriam’s fashion studio. We then see how busy she is – in bed with Giorgio.

At the doctor’s office, Luisito is examined and the doctor tells Gabriel that there is a good chance that Luisito will be able to walk again. L. hears this and there is much rejoicing.

Josleyn is having a post-coital talk with her wedding ring. She says that she has to find pleasure wherever and whenever she can find it. Giorgio overhears and says she seems to be a very liberal person. ‘Would she give her husband, the same opportunities she gives herself? ‘No,’ says Joselyn as the beasts snarl in the background, ‘how dare you ask me that? She then proceeds to tell Georgio that he is a nobody (our old friend, “Don Nadie”) and doesn’t merit a woman like her.

Rogelio talks tough to his buddies about the conditions he is imposing on his father concerning his job but his buddies mock him for still being dependant on his father. Rogelio’s cell phone rings. The guy he owes money to says that his wife’s performance last night was nice but it doesn’t satisfy his debt and he wants his money today (hoy mismo). Rogelio tries to get more time but the guy isn’t having any. ‘I want the money today and if you don’t pay, bad things will happen.’

Joselyn returns to work in a foul mood. She says that she is tired of playing the role of employee. Miriam asks if she is tired of working in the business or tired of Giorgio?

Rogelio takes Diana to a restaurant and tries to make nice. A horrible violinist plays for them.

Gabriel, Luisito and MA return from the doctor’s office all happy. Joselyn appears and asks where they have been.

JC comes to see his mother and she asks why he is so sad. ‘Is it because you broke up with Paulina?’ ‘No,’ says JC, ‘that was easy.’ He tells her that Demian offered him a job and explains why he couldn’t accept it. Regina says that he should reconsider. Nothing would make her happier than seeing them working side by side as father and son. ‘As father and son,’ repeats JC with heavy irony in his voice.

Mayeya, crying, tells Shorty about how her father paid for a guy to marry her and she had to leave her pueblo. She says she is happy in this neighborhood where everyone is nice to her and that is where the TiVo stopped recording but the rest will certainly open tomorrow’s episode.

This whole thing about whether JC is Demian's son or Gabriel's shouldn't matter, because if D & G are identical twins it makes no never mind. Only Gabriel realizing it was idiotic of him to conceal from Paulina the fact that she's adopted will solve this problem. What an idiot Gabriel is. He should divorce the bat-shit-crazy wife and stop mooning over MA and tell Paulina the truth and just get it all together. He's a mess.

I'm actually starting to like Tiberio's weird plastic surgery - it's like an outward manifestation of how peculiar he is on the inside.

I watched Tiny Tim Luisito with the sound turned down, it's much better that way, then you just see his artificial idiotic expressions and don't hear the squeaky voice.

Jean --

thanks for the great recap.

although I did spot three minor mistakes - in the end, Jocelyn returns to the office and Miriam questions her if she's tired of working there or tired of Giorgio. (Not Regina) Next scene, Rogelio takes Diana out to dinner (not Regina). Mayeya was talking with Shorty (Cortito in spanish).

I never thought of that. Is the child of an identical twin the cousin or the half brother/sister of the other twin? As I understand the issue of relatives marrying though, it is more about taboos than genetics.

If characters behaved logically and told each other important information, there would be no plots for novelas (or soap operas for that matter). You'd think that one could have a novela that was about something other than:
1. a beautiful girl of aparently humble origins who falls in love with a rich person;
2. a powerful person who everyone, or many people, know is evil but who is permitted to continue doing evil things until the last episode of the novela; and
3. practically everyone else having a secret involving parentage and inheritance.

There are variations, of course. For example, Miranda and Alejandro don't fit neatly into #1 but they will have the continual misunderstandings that follow from failure to tell each other important information that are typical.

Formulas are comforting though. You always know how it will come out. I'm not sure I would want a novela that was more like 'real life' - too depressing.

Thanks J.R. I made the corrections. The only thing that I don't like about recapping a 9pm novela is that I have to stay up so late to do it. I turn into a zombie about 11pm. I reread it in the morning before posting but don't catch all the errors.

Despite his blondeness, JC is beginning to look kind of attractive to me. I think it might have something to do with his current somber , heartbroken mood and choice of darker clothes [to match his mood, perhaps??]---the citrus colors and lovesick, goofy smile during that 45-minute lovefest with Paulina in Barcelona just did not appeal to me. Just as Luis's moody , angry poutiness was a turn-on in ''Alborada.''~~~Susanlynn, thinking that she may have a darker nature than she knows and should talk to the teenage Dr. Phil ...Raul ...if he ever catches up on his homework

Great recap Jean! We miss you over in Heridas land.

Tiberio is the oddest looking person. His hair is too dark and coifed, a bad rug. His face is pasty and white, he looks like a cadaver or a figure out of the wax museum. And his mouth is always stretched into an unnatural rectangular shape. I find my mouth doing the same thing when I watch him, awed. Somebody slap me.

Last night it dawned on me who Luisito reminds me of. Do you remember Margaret O'Brien, child actor in the 40's? Bingo. All that bawling and mewing... Except that M. O'B. could actually act.

I love Joselyn. What a wack job. Edith Gonzalez must be having the time of her life.
