The ORIGINAL Mexican La Fea?

I just became aware of a series called "El Amor No Es Como Lo Pintan." Apparently, it was (or was not, depending on who you ask) an earlier Mexican remake of Yo Soy Betty, La Fea.

Anybody remember this?

UPDATE: In looking at some detailed recaps, rather than the brief synopsis, I think it'd be fair to say that it was "strongly inspired by" the Colombian series (much like Ugly Betty in the US), but it might be a stretch to call it a remake.

I don't know what happened to the Greek version (Maria the Ugly, aka Maria, i Aschimi, aka Μαρία, Η Άσχημη). It was supposed to start November 6, I think, but then didn't. Legal troubles? I don't know.

Interesting. I was reading the coments and I think there will always be Betty la Fea purists who will never like any remake.

It's a shame because they miss out on some fantastic versions. I love this one but I must admit that the German version is fantastic! The cinematography is great and the story is really good.

"El Amor No Es Como Lo Pintan" was accused of being a Mexican copy of the Colombian "Yo Soy Betty, La Fea", but the only thing the two novelas have in common is that the heroine is "ugly".

In the case of EANECLP, however, the heroine's lack of beauty is truly physical, whereas it is obvious from the first episode of YSBLF that all Betty needs is a decent makeover.

YSBLF is a wonderful combination of comedy and drama. EANECLP is an uncomfortable mix of humor and violence.

I disliked the violence in El Amor, especially because the non-violent storylines were, IMO, more than sufficiently entertaining to have carried the novela by themselves. And Gina Romand gives an inspired performance as the evil mother.

But to get back to the original question: no, El Amor was in no way a rewrite of Betty, La Fea whereas La Fea Más Bella definitely is a rewrite.

There is a Spanish version of Betty, La Fea that is called Yo Soy Bea. Other versions have appeared around the world, starting, I think, in India.

Maria i aschimi starts in Greek tv on January 1st. There were no legal troubles, just the shootings were going slow.

Today also started in Greece the mexican remake, "La fea mas bella". It's shown dubbed in Greek (unfortunatelly) in Alpha Tv station.
