La Fea Más Bella #184 1/9/07 Almost doesn't count

Dramatic music plays while Julieta repeats the last line of Lety’s diary.

Saimon prances around in the reception area pretending to be a matador. PM comments that she doesn’t know what is worse, the Company’s problems or Lety’s disappearance. At that moment Fernando steps off the elevator and asks for his vehicle. Saimon hands Fernando the original key and the duplicate key. Saimon says that the car is parked outside of the business where Don Fernando (pause) was the president. Saimon volunteers to accompany Fernando wherever he needs to go. PM thinks it would be better if Saimon took Fernando. Fernando asks Saimon if he (Saimon) wants to accompany Fernando to hell. PM comments on Fernando’s poor state.

Teresita and Marcia tag team Omar to find out what’s up with Fernando. Omar confesses to the women that the judge decided for Lety and that there is no longer a way to take back the business from Lety. Now Lety is sending her lawyer to talk with the management at Conceptos. Marcia screams that she knew it. Teresita is more worried about Fernando leaving the building alone like a crazy man. Omar says that Fernando is like a wild beast right now almost to the point of fighting with Omar. Marcia says that Fernando is probably out looking for Lety.

Lety talks to Miss Puebla about the problems with MP parents. Lety says she understands that MP is sad because her parents don’t care about the things that are important to MP. MP explains that she entered the pageant so that her parents would be proud of her; she wanted to be more important to them. Lety tells MP that she has no idea how much Lety understands. Lety says that MP needs to accept that her parents are not coming. She explains that MP needs to continue to love her parents but must learn how to live for herself. MP protests. Lety tells MP to go to her house if that’s what she wants but asks for one last favor.

Marcia complains some more about Fernando. Saimon comes into the office to tell them that Fernando left the office. Saimon guiltily tells the ladies that Fernando was drinking when he left. Marcia thinks this is a poor reflection of Fernando’s behavior in the office. Saimon interrupts and says that Fernando was very bad, furious and mad and that he said he was going straight to hell! Teresita seems worried; Marcia is less so.

Carolina shows the women how to demonstrate an outfit. Alex enters and greets them all. Lety approaches Caro and asks for a pardon because she could not convince MP to stay. Renata walks over to Caro and says that she is returning to Puebla. Caro tries to help. Lety grabs MP’s costume to try to convince her that the costume needs someone to wear it. MP says she’s thought about it and she’s definitely going home. Lety pulls MP aside and says she wants to teach MP something. She’s going to give MP one last opportunity to reflect on her decision.

Fernando erratically drives down the highway. He thinks about his conversation with Jorge Flores. His thoughts re-center on Lety.

MP looks for Lety. Lety steps into the room in the Puebla costume. She pretends that she is now the new representative of Puebla. Lety explains to the “judges” that there was a last minute change and the beautiful representative of Puebla left and the state is now represented by an ugly representative who will do anything for her state. All the beauties crowd around her and applause. When Lety sees Caro she apologizes for what she’s doing. Everyone applauses again, led by Caro. One of the ladies says that Lety looks beautiful. Miss Veracruz asks the girls if they should declare Lety the winner of the Nuestra Belleza pageant. Alex takes a picture of all the ladies with Lety in the middle. MP scrunches her face.

Fernando makes it to the beach, but almost runs into a boat. Aldo emerges from the ocean behind him. Fernando sits on his car and complains about the person who had the nerve to park a boat in the middle of the beach. He takes a sip of his liquor and toasts the boat.

Alex comes over to Lety and kisses her hand. He says how nice she looks in the Puebla costume. Lety thanks him and teases him that this is the first time he’s ever called her Lety. Caro tells Lety that she really does look good, and to remember that physical beauty is short lived if there is not a beautiful spirit to support it. MP decides to go through with the pageant for herself and not for her parents. MP says that if Lety had taken MP’s place Lety would have won. Alex thinks they don’t have to take this that far. Some of the girls come over to Lety and put a “Miss Lety” sash on her shoulder. Lety jokes that she could compete in that pageant. Lety says that the girls need to get ready for the contest that night. After everyone leaves, Caro tells Lety that Acapulco has done her good and that Lety will definitely return to Mexico a different person.

“Unbelievable!” Fernando walks over to the boat and yells at it. “Who?” “What?” He talks to the boat. Fernando doesn’t think the boat should be in the beach. Doesn’t its owner know that there are marinas and yacht clubs to park the boat? It dawns on him that it’s even weirder that his car is on the beach. Fernando salutes himself for coming to Acapulco. He points to the city, realizing that’s where he’s supposed to be. Fernando drunkenly climbs back into his car and drives off in the direction that he was pointing. Aldo steps out of the ocean and talks about the marvelously crazy man. He walks over to his boat and asks it if the drunk man frightened it. He tells the boat that they need to prepare for a very, very special night.

Back at Conceptos Marcia and Teresita talks some more about Fernando and the business. Marcia’s upset because Fernando will not answer his cell phone. Teresita still cannot believe that her son would participate in such nonsense. Teresita decides to give his cell phone one last call.

Fernando’s phone rings in Acapulco. Teresita thanks God that Fernando answered the phone. She asks Fernando his location. At first he says that he doesn’t know where he is, but later reminds her that he’s in Acapulco. Marcia sits back in her chair and holds her head. Fernando hangs up the phone and accelerates toward Acapulco! Teresita and Marcia ask each other what Fernando is doing in Acapulco. Neither can believe it! Marcia resolves to take the first plane to Acapulco and to go get Fernando so that Humberto doesn’t find out about this problem.

Julieta continues to read Lety’s diary and all about Fernando and the creation of Filmo Imagen. So far nothing too incriminating…

Fernando enters a bar with his bottle still in hand. He bumps into some guy on his way to the bar. Next, he whistles at some woman. My husband was quite entertained by him hissing out the word “Salsa” and making a slithering sound at the woman. Fernando asks for a whiskey at the bar. The bartender asks what Fernando would like as a mixer. “Vodka.” The bartender stops for a second. Fernando introduces himself to the bartender (Libardo). They joke around about how small Libardo is for a little while, but Fernando eventually asks (Liberato – he calls the bartender the wrong name) for the whiskey again. He pets the drunken man passed out next to him. Fernando stops thumping on the bar and asks aloud why Lety did this to him.

Julieta continues to read. She finds the entry after the first night Fernando and Lety made love. “I was his and he was mine.”

Fernando is also thinking about that first night with Lety, but he has tears in his eyes. He also thinks about their second night. “Only God knows how much I love you, Lety.” He repeats this phrase to himself.

Julieta continues to smile as she reads about the “adventures” of Lety and Fernando.

The Nuestra Belleza chicas, including MP, show off their regional costumes. Everyone applauses the whole time they are on the stage. The announcer states that each woman will go down the stage individually. Anyone else notice that Miss Veracruz looks a little like Catherine Zeta-Jones? When she enters the stage Aldo comments that MP looks very pretty, sure of herself and happy. Caro tells Aldo that he will not believe who convinced MP to participate. Caro tells Aldo the story about Lety convincing MP. Alex confirms. Lety giggles. Aldo asks Lety for details about what she did to convince MP. Lety starts her story.

Meanwhile, Fernando chills at the bar. Fernando asks the bartender if he (Fernando) has the face of a fool. (BTW, imbecil can also translate to mean “asshole.” I’m going to use “fool” to be a little more family friendly, but you can translate it how you like.) Fernando tells the bartender that of course he has the face of a fool, because he is a fool. The bartender weakly protests. Fernando sees three women talking in a group and calls them three little problems. One of the pretty girls walks up to the bar and asks for another drink. Fernando asks, “Little problem, what is your name?” She doesn’t answer and walks away the instant she gets her drink. Another girl comes up to the bar. Fernando drunkenly leers and puts her on the bar. He turns to the bartender and says that the girl was “medio güey.” (Okay, brief Spanish lesson. Güey has different meanings in Mexico depending on to whom it’s referring. It’s okay for a man to say to another man or in modern times a woman to say to another woman. In those instances it’s a term of affection, like “buddy.” However, it is not okay for a man to say it to/about a woman. In that context it is a very derogatory way of describing a woman who cheats on her man. Unfortunately, there is really no English word that completely encompasses the meaning of güey.) He re-focuses on the original pretty girl. He points out to the bartender that the girl is flirting with that guy but will later betray him. The bartender tries to calm him.

The beauties parade again down the walkway. Lety finishes her story telling Aldo that she convinced MP to do the pageant for herself and not for everyone else. Aldo says he’s he would have loved to see Lety in the costume. Alex says that Lety look great. Aldo turns to Lety and says that he’s impressed that Lety is teaching the girls what she wants to learn for herself. The girls walk to the back to the stage to find out who won the ethnic dress section. Surprise! It’s Renata, Miss Puebla! All the girls surround her and congratulate her.

Fernando continues to laugh at the little social group in the corner. The bartender thinks Fernando is going to vomit. Nope, Fernando wants to know what that guy in the corner is celebrating. The bartender explains that it is their anniversary. Fernando falls off the bar onto the floor from laughing. He pets the drunken guy again. Fernando climbs back onto the bar to laugh at the happy couple. He says that the proper way to celebrate an anniversary is for one to buy a ticket to Hungry and the other to go to Jamaica so that they each can enjoy their anniversary. They so far have successfully ignored him. Fernando calls the “bully” over to him. He loudly whispers that the girl is betraying the man. The man calls Fernando a drunk and leaves Fernando to walk back over to his girl. Fernando makes fun of the man for having the intuition of an “Omar Carvajal.” Fernando shouts after the man who tells him to shut up. Fernando asks the man whom it was that he called a fool. “You.” the man replies. Fernando insults the man some more by calling him Guli (like from Gulliver’s travels) because he’s so large. The bartender tries to come in between Fernando and the man. Fernando counts out the men, says the woman doesn’t count because she’s a girl and also says the short man doesn’t count. The men line up to go after Fernando. The bartender protests even more loudly but Fernando picks him up and puts him on the bar. The woman now interferes and tells her man to leave Fernando alone because he’s drunk. The bartender gets down and tries to help some more. Fernando pushes the bartender toward Guli. Fernando laughs and calls them David and Goliath. The bartender interferes and says that these men are fighters and that they’ll kill him (Fernando). Fernando says he’s not suicidal; he’s not going to fight with these dinosaurs. He turns to confront the man who called him a fool. The woman continues to hold the men back. Fernando says he doesn’t want any problems and pushes one of the men. He asks the large man if he’s pregnant. One of the employees asks Fernando to leave. Fernando crawls on the bar and says he only one thing to say. He tells them that they have the face of old people and starts to chicken dance on the bar. The quick glance at his face indicates that maybe he’s wanting what he knows is about to come to him.

Caro says that the night was a success and now they only have the night of the coronation. Lety takes her leave of Caro. She and Aldo walk off to meet his father.

Fernando dances on the bar while Aldo’s father asks for Senor Domenzain. The man asks him to take a seat because there’s a problem at the bar. Fernando taunts the men. He takes a stage dive into the group of men. Luckily, they’re charitable enough to catch him. One of the men punches Fernando right in the face. The bartender says that these men will kill him. “You speak with reason.” Fernando replies. Fernando turns around and says he’s sorry. He says he has one more thing to say. He basically insinuates that he slept with their mothers and left his underwear in the hallway. The men don’t find the joke funny and start beating on Fernando. Aldo’s father is in the background complaining about the ruckus. Drunken guy continues to sleep. Fernando gets up from the floor and asks who else wants to dance with him. He grabs the pretty girl and starts to dance with her. Her man punches Fernando. This time the men knock him to the floor, with blood coming from his mouth.

At that moment Lety and Aldo enter the bar. Lety says she feels as though someone important whom she knows is there. Aldo’s father comes up to them and says that he wants to leave this place immediately. Lety notices the group of men picking up the drunk and feels bad for him; she thinks the men are going to kill him. They leave the bar. The bouncers bring Fernando around to another entrance and drop him off. Lety and Aldo walk over to Fernando. They hover over him for a moment, but Aldo’s papa insists that they leave. Lety says they should leave to make sure Aldo’s father doesn’t leave without him. Fernando is left alone on the floor telling himself how much he misses Lety.

Julieta gets to the not so good part of Lety’s diary. She’s now reading from the day Lety discovered The Letter.

Back in Acapulco, Fernando takes a short nap. He gets up and goes back into the bar but is immediately chased out by the doorman. Fernando calls the doorman to him. He says that He has to enter the bar because he did not pay the bill and because he needs to apologize to the men inside. Fernando offers the doorman money. The doorman helps Fernando into the bar. Fernando slowly walks over to the drunk guy and the bartender, who quickly hands Fernando a drink. Fernando stumbles over to the group and says he’s sorry again. This time he kneels on the floor. One of the men tells him to stand up. Fernando says that none of the men’s mothers did anything. They don’t understand him. He says that the only woman with whom he went out was the girl in the red dress. The woman denies it. Fernando gives a half hearted attempt at a head butt. One of the men punches Fernando while the other holds him. Fernando’s phone rings; the bartender answers. It’s Marcia. She asks the bartender if Fernando is with him. The bartender reveals that Fernando was fighting.

In honor of our preview for tomorrow, a quote about kissing:

Hey Amanda, thanks for info on "güey" it wasn't in my dictionary (I looked)! Very interesting.

Am SO UPSET about Fern and his drinking I'm beside myself. I run away from drunks whenever I see them. Saw way too much as a child. I hope he gets over this fast.

Aldo looks better and better. i just can't understand why the forumistas at telenovela-world hate him so much! he's just a nice guy trying to deal with his own problems and if he came up with a kind of spacy philosophy to do it, it's still WAY better than booze and he's making people happy while Fern is crashing around endangering motorists and causing trouble for harmless bartenders.

Thanks so much Amanda for such a super quick recap!
I thought this was a very depressing episode.
How could Lety not recognize Fernando???? I know his face was turned away but you would think his head, body, etc. would be familiar to her.
I was so happy Marcia was coming to help Fernando. I have felt like he has absolutely no one in his corner anymore. Although I don't like Marcia I am grateful for what she appeared to be doing.
I'm liking Lety less and less. I guess maybe she and Aldo make a good couple since I don't especially like him either.
Fernando was sad, pitiful, and awful but he breaks my heart! He is so alone and unhappy.
Enough of the torture and and constant beating on Fernando by the entire world (except Simon and the feas)!!!!

Carrie L.

did anyone else notice that Aldo's dad is played by "Ramon" from Amor Real (Carlos Camera Sr.)

;)

Thank you for the excellent recap!! The main thing that struck me was the dimissive way Aldo's dad treated him when they first saw each other in the bar. They hadn't seen each other in years and there was no hug no moment of joy--he just totally blew him off. I felt really bad for Aldo.

I too sort of had a few moments of gratitude towards Marcia. Can't hate the woman when she's on an errand of mercy.

Thanks for the recap. I am really starting not to like the "new Lety". It really is not that she missed Fern but how could she just leave with someone hurt in the street and not help. I realize the father was there for a meeting with Aldo but what about compassion for your fellow man. I am starting to think maybe she would be better off with Aldo. As for the drinking I realize that is destructive behavior but for someone who doesn't normally drink like that is a major cry for help. Marcia and Mama T need to recognize what is going on and help.

I realize that lety needs to find herself, gain confidence and then return to Fernando because of love and not because she can't get someone else and that fernando needs to find himself and decide he really loves Lety for herself and he is no longer interested in the mujeriego lifestyle. These are lessions they have to learn, but I don't like the idea that Lety becomes intimate with someone else while going thru this. It takes away from the innocence seen in her eyes when she used to look at fernando and his gaze in hers.

Amanda, thanks for the rapid and thorough recap! I really loved the Spanish lesson. I don't remember ever seeing an umlaut in Spanish, so clearly I have forgotten a lot or missed a lot. I thought my captions were junky again the first time I saw that word, güey.

Melinama, I am definitely with you on this. Fernando's drinking is over the top and I hope they curb it soon. It is definitely not enhancing the story line. I was so distressed by his drunken screaming (I didn't have alcoholic parents, but one of mine was a rager, whose grandfather had been an alcoholic and passed down the "mean drunk" genes even to sober descendents) that I turned off the sound and just watched the captions. It was bad enough that way but didn't make my stomach knot as much as the drunken screaming. Those scenes where he was provoking a fight--too much, and not good for the plot. I guess we are to take away the idea that he is really suffering and everyone around him has to live through it, too. Aldo is definitely looking better and better.

Anyone noticing how all the beautiful people in this telenovela have non-nurturing parents? They all have personal problems resulting from nasty childhood experiences? Only the fea has totally loving, unconditionally supporting parents.

If my mother had been reading my diary and came on the information in Lety's, my mother would never have smiled dreamily. She would have gone into a decline instantly. Or worse. OTOH, my mother would never have found my diary!

I am enough of a cynic to think Marcia is not really coming to the rescue so much as she is making sure nothing happens to him before they get the company back from Lety. I was a little hopeful last night when I saw Marcia holding the drunken and beaten Fern that she was coming with the love of a sister who has adored an older brother type person, though.

Jeanne

I suppose it was necessary to show Fern at a low point, but I really hope it doesn't get any lower than this. He was such an obnoxious fool in the bar that my disgust was blocking my sympathy for him.

Thanks for the quick and wonderful recap Amanda. Your spanish must be excellent to get all the slang words also. My Spanish is so limited that if I didn't read this blog I would not know the majority of what was happening. THANKS.

Fernando's drunken behavior and picking fights where he knows that he is going to be beaten to a pulp reminds me of those kids who cut themselves. Evidently being able to focus on that physical pain is not as bad as the emotional/psychological pain they are feeling, so, in a way, Fernando is self-medicating. At least with Fernando, I think this is a temporary situation. Certainly hope so because it is way too painful to watch both Fernando's behavior and his beatings since I was married to an alcoholic once and it was certainly not pleasant. Fernando is the reason I watch this novella.

I'm with the person who said they couldn't believe Lety didn't recognize Fernando, and even worse that she left a person lying there in such bad shape. Of course, I know this is to extend the plot, but geez, Aldo's father has waited for years and if he'll leave without them at this point I would say let him go.

It is interesting Fernando found his way to Lety. They have such a connection that he is drawn to where she is. Sounds hokey but I have had things like this happen before.

Waiting for sunnier days in LFMB Land.

Connie

Lety and Aldo are getting my telenovela nerves. The two are leaving the bar with the new found papa with whom Aldo has no relationship until the fea rode into town on her rescue horse.Lo and behold right in front of them lies the man she's shed enough tears over to fill the Gulf of Mexico, and she doesn't recognize him? What a crock..Where did the writing of this telenovela run amuck?

Obviously, the writers of LFMB do not support the Mexican Chamber of Commerce,as the road traveled by Fern to get to the beach look like back in the horse & buggy days..

For those of us who love this show but find it now moving along at a snails pace will,I fear, be in for a 3-4 months of does she love the therapist or does she love Fernando.? How much more crawling does Fern have to do?

I've had a dislike of Marci from day one,but have now begun to take another look at her..Maybe she's the one for Fern after all,but I perish the thought..I'm really confused as to how I feel about Lety the whiner..For Fern to be so in love with Lety, she must be one great bed partner..Mo

Lety did stop and get still, saying that there was a important presence close by. Her soul felt him there, but she's too distracted by the other activities (going with Aldo's father) to pursue it. It seems to me the writers want to remind us of their "mystical" connection that supercedes the concrete here and now. They keep giving us glimpses, like when he calls her name in anguish and she senses something.

Jeanne

I couldn't believe the bartender handed Fern another drink. Perhaps he was hoping that Fern would pass out. I know I was.

It's funny - when I saw the previews for this episode I thought, "Gee, looks like he's going to Acapulco instead of getting beaten nearly to death like he did in the Colombian series. That's a relief." It never occurred to me that he would get beaten up *in* Acapulco.

Okay, maybe not funny. But interesting.

I think the whole point of all the drinking is to show that Fernando is in such despair that he wants to kill himself. He's looking toward alcohol as the way to do it. It's a rough thing to watch because people really do that in real life.

As for Aldo, I just don't like him. I like the original series because it was the Caro character who helped the Lety character find herself. In this version it's as though Lety is going from leaning on one man to leaning on another. It feels a little empty.

Isn’t it a little weird how Fern and Lety DID NOT recognize each other.

I'm so in agreement with much of what was said about the episode. It distressed me so badly I could barely sleep last night. Fern is obviously in extreme emotional trouble and the out of control drinking is a real cry for help. He feels that he has been deserted by the only person in his life who really loved him and he has the burdon of knowing how cruely he hurt her.

I couldn't believe that beach scene with Dr. Phil just standing in the water while Fern carried on. He was certainly close enough to him to hear him mention his name and didn't he recognzie him from the picture Lety had on the boat?

Relationship between father and son - very odd. No greetings to each other or awkward moments after years of estrangement. Looks like he is just an other pushy and cold father ordering son around.

I'm continuing to dislike Lety. It was out of character for her to leave what appeared to be a wounded man just to run after her therapist. The old Lety would never have done that so her "improvement" isn't one as far as I am concerned.

Marcia to the rescue - God help Ferrn.

One comment to add about the fights in the bar. The Acapulco Princess is a very upscale hotel. If there was an obnoxious drunk in the bar fighting with other patrons hotel security would have come and quietly escorted him out or back to his room. They sure as heck would not have just dumped him in the lobby where other guests would see him or where he would be able to get up and get into more trouble. I know, I know its Novelaland where logic and reality don't meet.

Very depressing show last night. I really almost lost it when Fern was hearing that song and remembering the times he had been with Lety. It always makes me smile when he thinks "Only God knows how much I love Lety." I can't help thinking that he might be much better off if he told all those fools around him (the old novela cliche) "Lety is the amor de me vida." Maybe they might cut him some slack.

As for guey that is real street argot and highly insulting. It surprised me that someone so refined as Fern would even know it much less use it.

I think fern started the problem with the luchadores because he was jealous that they had their girl friends there and he didn’t. When he talked about their ‘mothers’ I think he ment girlfriends.

(Didn’t Fern recognize Lety’s voice? Imagen what would have happened if Lety had found out the drunk man was Don Fern!)

Can someone explain this to me. When I check online to see when the final is. It says it is definitely january and that Rosy Ocampo says that she made this committment to the public and she will stick with it. That March was only a rumor and it will be January; however, I have seen video bits and pieces of future events and there is no way it can be completed this month? This is dragging now, so much with a lot of silly and stupid behaviors, which take away from the tele. Fernando's drinking and his stupid behaivor even when not drinking, takes away from the handsome fernanod in his suit and looking so handsome and in control and with such compassionate looks when seeing or thinking of lety???

That's January in MEXICO, they are - is it fourteen weeks? - ahead of us.

Again: Mexico is 14 weeks ahead of us. When it ends in Mexico, we'll still have 14 weeks to go.

Mexico's official end date is February 9th.

BTW, Fernando Colunga is set to appear in an episode. We'll see if it happens. :-)

Have I missed something? How did Fernando decide to go to Acapulco? It seems he was in the office one minute and on the beach the next. I also don't like the drunk driving!

Good grief. Who aren't they throwing into this mix if Colunga makes a guest appearance and we still have a young hot babe to make the scene as well as Tomas' mother. Seems it is a lot like hit shows here, everyone wants a piece of the action.

I too was surprised that the bar even let Fernando in. I know the second time he gave a tip. I've been to less upscale clubs in South America where they wouldn't let totally drunk people in.

As much as I wanted Lety to recognize Fern at the bar, I knew it was not the time. :(

I have a feeling that sunny days for our favorite characters are not in the very near future..More torment for Fernando, and in the end,I think, Lety rides off in the proverbial sunset with Aldo, realizing that after nearly a year now of one of the most popular telenovelas, she's in love with her man of the sea (Aldo). They move to Acapulco and Aldo opens his restaurant..Lety? I guess she opens an accounting firm or a dress shop..Just my imagination working overtime..Maureen

Fernando Colunga and Jamie on the same screen? I don't know if I can stand it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I definitely think all of Fern's drinking is just his way of destroying himself. He doesn't seem to care for his own life now that Lety has gone.
I hate seeing drunks and hope Fern's drinking gets calmed down. It didn't bother me too much when he was laughing and happy with Omar but the bar sceen was too painful to watch.
I'd be ever so grateful to Marcia if she rescues Fern. It remains to be seen about her motives but she seemed to be acting out of some sort of love.
Lety, Lety what has happened to you? In growing and changing you have left the innocent Lety we loved behind.
Aldo is a nice but troubled guy. I just don't like him but maybe it's the new age psychic ways that Lety is so fond of that turn me off.
Carrie L.

CARRIE,

I can't stand Aldo either. How can he be so helpful to lety when he can't handle his own problems. He ran away and spent four years moping around feeling sorry for himself. I think he is just using her to hide from himself. As for Lety PG told her she would have to fight for what she wanted but she sure isn't doing much fighting that I can see. I
know things on novelas are always odd but she was so crazy in love with Fern and THREE DAYS later she if hanging around another guy. I never got over a broken heart that fast in my life!

Janet

Again, another great recap! I agree with the earlier comment that Lety should have certainly recognized Fernando. If my boyfriend was lying in the lobby of a building drunk and beaten I know I would recognize him instantly! I don't like Marcia going to rescue Fernando, don't know why, I just don't like it. Did you also notice that Aldo's dad was Peregrina's grandfather? By the way, I've started to watch "Rosa Salvaje" in the morning before I go to work (like I need a fourth telenovela to watch). I know it's old, but Joselyn from Mundo de Fieras is in it and, believe me, she looks better with the coal-black eye make-up than she does with the pink stuff they've smeared all over her eyes.

Ahhhh, the brokenheart scenerio, yes well Aldo is just all that...
Yeah, I hate this turn of events and have quit watching...I still had the feeling that Lety knew when she left that Fernando loved her...well yeah he wasn't the best boyfriend, what with the whole being engaged to someone else...but sometimes you have to overlook this little flaws...IF Lety can overlook serious Dasiy Dukes, then I would think Fernandos little flaws shouldn't be a problem.

Melinama and Julie

thanks for letting me know about the 14 weeks later; however, I am bummed now. I was always told these programs last about 6 months and I was hoping to see Lety and Fernando go off into the sunset together soooooon. If this does not happen in the final, I would definitely never watch another soap that involves Ms. Ocampo. In this country, the homely girl becomes the princess and marries the prince. she doesn't get her act together and move on. I agree with the new era. Lety finds herself and then gets back with Fernando because of love and not of need.

Ret

It's like one of those Saturday Night Live skits that is funny in the first 30 seconds but then they proceed to beat the punchline to death for the next four minutes. Except this could be more like four months. I hope not.

Ditto, Julie. Argh. Four more months.....

Jeanne (shaking head)

RET,

I'd be stunned if Lety and Fern did not end up together. It is almost completely unheard of for the two main leads not to end up together in a novela and that's what keeps me watching. This novela has so far managed to avoid most of the cliches like the good priest and/or the cook/maid/housekeeper who is always around spouting wisdom and advice. Perhaps that is Aldo's function. The hero usually has a wingman who helps him deal with the problems of suddenly falling in love but poor Fern is stuck with "thinks with his crotch" Omar who is useless and actually makes things worse. I'm living for the day that Fern clocks him good.

As long as they avoid near fatal accidents or illness, amnesia or a revenge wedding I'll keep sticking it out but if any of that junk creeps in I'll dump it as fast as I did MDF.

El usuario anónimo

I agree. I would not be able to tolerate either of them marrying someone else "first". I would stop watching. I have seen video pieces of the future and it looks good for them but with many many obstacles. I got to the point where I could not watch anymore, without some hope that they would be together in the end. I was losing sleep. Ret

Nah, these folks have a Psychic Guy. Aldo has some wisdom, but the PG has more.

RET,

I can't belive someone else is losing sleep over this. It goes to show what a really great job Angelica and Jamie are doing that we can feel for them as if they were real people and suffer along with them. I sometimes find myself trying to think how I would write it if I were in charge. I do know one thing I would have them end up seperately at that spa, keep missing each other through the cleansing ceremonies but end up at that pool together and find each other there.

Oh, to have them end up in the pool of their dreams!!!! That would be wonderful.

I'm convinced that Lety and Fer will end up together. This Aldo thing is just a passing fancy. It will end and our Fer and Lety will end up together. They cannot be going through all of this torture for naught.

Just a few thoughts on Lety's willingness to leave a hurt person lying on the floor without helping....Lety grew up with the influence of a strong male-Robopop. She's done what he says which is very much reflected in the way she dresses. Then, she gets a job with a male boss. She adores him (as she does her dad) and does what he asks (fix the books) even tho she might have had second thoughts...she did what the strong male figure asked of her. Now we get Aldo and his dad. They are telling her to leave the hurt man (our Ferni) and go with them. She wanted to stay but ultimately gave in to what the strong males wanted. Lety has not developed a strong sense of herself yet...although she's working on it. She's still acting like a little girl that needs to be told what to do by a male/daddy/man. I don't see her as a fit companion for anyone at this point. She must learn to trust her own thoughts and feelings and be willing to stand up for them. She showed some backbone in the meeting but that was short lived.

I don't know...maybe this is my repressed side talking. Just something to ponder.

OH yeah, one more comment. I've had all day to think about these things!! harhar!!

Maybe Lety didn't recognize Fernando lying on the floor because she wasn't expecting to see him in that surrounding. I'm not sure I'd instantly recognize my own husband, say,if I were on vacation and he suddenly was added to the surroundings of a crowded place. She did get some sort of premonition, but again, she didn't trust herself to follow through on her feelings.

Okay, not to be a wet blanket or anything, but I remember in "La Esposa Virgen" that Adela Noriega's character did end up with the "other guy" not the Leading Man!! Very Upsetting. Something about Jorge Salinas (the leading man on the show) having a suddenly urgent committment to leave in his personal life so they HAD to make it end that way...!! Whatever. It was a total Bummer! Hope that doesn't happen here, but with all of the dragging on, and now with the scene director's demise...

Fernando Colunga!!
Finally some male beefcake. We have had lots of female fluffs running around and only one male review.

For those who love Colunga,he's on every Saturday on Univision playing a character that doesn't resemble Colunga at all.Mo

I agree with all who have said that Lety should have recognized Fern. The writers really insulted the audience with that one.
It's not like her glasses were off. Even that would not have been an excuse, but it would have at least made it a little more believable. The hair gel and body type alone should have been enough for her to go investigate. Cheesey Aldo and his old man could wait!

I was very saddened by Fernando's actions at the bar. I believe that he wanted to kill himself. Although his drinking is disturbing, it is understandable because he lost a 45 million dollar company, the girl of his dreams, and the respect of his family and business associates. Jamie is a great actor and I felt his pain last night as a drunken Fernando. Although this soap opera can be boring at times, the actors are superb. It is in contrast to American soap operas where the acting is very dull. I have been watching an American soap opera for one year and there has not been as much drama as there was last night in one episode of LFMB. I too lost a little sleep last night thinking about the direction of the LFMB's storyline. I hope the show doesn't end too soon.

I was surprised that Lety did not hear Fernando's voice as he was being carried into the lobby. Doesn't she know that he will come looking for her. Didn't she say that she felt the presence of someone that she knew? And why did the bouncers leave him on the floor for other people to see?

I know Fern is not behaving like we would like him to but, he is falling apart. He never really kneww what love is. He had a horrible childhood with no loving parents. They "groomed" from the day he was a child to be strictly business. He never had the chance to understand and know about human emotion, warmth, caring, and to receive physical love without anything in return. This has totally shocked him. Lety stayed with him for months handling the business with him. He spoke, she acknowledged and confirmed his statements. He felt this connection at the time but did not realize it. Then he had a physical relationship with Lety, pure, intense, and whole. It was not until her physical presence was not there, that he realized that Lety had been his strength emotionally, physically, spiritually, and he fell apart. He felt like an empty shell. His mind was saying one thing, but his emotions, new emotions, were feeling another, awake, alive, nothing he has felt before. He was like a crazy man. He wanted to numb the pain, so he just drank and drank. Also, having to put up with Omar, who just laughed and made fun of him. also, his mom, at this critical time, she should just look at her son, who is hurting so badly, and in so much emotional pain. No....she stands by Marcia and is looking at tne end result of a Wedding...... I agree that Fern should not be on a drinking binge for all of these days. He is not happy with it either. He is a broken man......

I couldn't help but feel that if Lety had been with Fernando and they'd come across a drunken Aldo, that Fernando would have stopped to aid the man regardless of whoever else they were with or meeting with!

Fernando will learn from his suffering and mistakes. He is a person of compassion who we see is more and more determined to do the right thing - something I think Lety saw in him from the beginning. The good Samaritan was something of an outcast too but he still chose tostop and help the wounded man when others chose to look the other way and pass him by.

Fernando and Lety together seem to bring out the best in each other. Aldo and Lety together seem to become more self-absorbed.

Anonymous 7:26 - Well said. You wrote a great analysis.

People, come on, the guy isnt an alcoholic but cut him some slack. Have you ever had your heart ripped out of your chest? I did, in August and then I let him do it again in October. He was my "Fern." I'm not a drinker but found myself hitting the Arbor Mist on more than one occasion to just to make the pain more bearable. I would have never thought that after being turned off by alcoholics all my life, that wine would become my best friend for awhile when I couldn't talk about it to anyone. This is a phase he's going through and he needs to numb the pain. That's all.
However, someone take his keys por favor.

P.S. Did anyone think Miss Puebla while talking to Lety kind of looked like a drag queen?

YES YES Y YES!!! That's exactly what I said to mi marido...doesn't she kinda look like a guy in drag???

I'm waiting for the day when these characters stop taking advice from the wrong people - Fernando from Omar, Marcia from Alicia and Doña T...speaking of whom, am I the only one who finds her annoying? She doesn't know her son at all, and the only thing that seems to interest her is the Big Wedding between her son and her adopted daughter. (There's something faintly incestuous and therefore creepy about that.) Pity she doesn't channel some of the time and energy wasted on getting her kids back together into finding a more flattering wig.

Aldo is no Fernando in swim trunks..In fact, Aldo's swimming attire is Daisy Duke cutoff jeans of the 80's..Anyone ever notice that stupid looking rubber cord Aldo wears around his neck? No, most of the friends here don't like Aldo for various reasons, I suppose. My reason being that he at the moment is competition for Fernando..I've seen Juan Soler on other shows and didn't really like him there--personal choice in men, speaking only for myself.Mo

Why do we like Fernando so much because he is tall, dark, handsome, and endearing. Those qualities are very attractive.

Jaime Camil was Born Jaime Federico Said Camil de Saldaña da Gama

Did anyone notice that Aldo's white pants are translucent when wet? .... I wonder why he did that.
