La Fea Más Bella #189 1/16/07 What, no more beauty queens?

Apparently Fernando changed his mind and decided that he did want to visit Jorge Flores. Fernando explains to Jorge that he, Fernando, needs to take care of himself. He can’t go from bar to bar. He needs to put himself in order. Jorge asks if Fernando really hit bottom. Fernando confirms. He tries to say he’s over Lety, but can only manage to stumble over the words and never really say it. Fernando explains that Marcia is waiting for him. He does not want to make a bad decision. Jorge questions if Fernando wants to be the same man he was before. “No,” Fernando replies. He just wants to get out of the hell he’s currently living. He wants to fix things with the people he loves – his family and everyone who is important to him. Jorge explains that Fernando is who he is and he can’t go from night to day just like that. He says that Fernando still has a lot of things to experience in life. Fernando hostilely asks if that means he’s going to continue to do wrong. Jorge replies with a question rather than an answer and asks what’s the point of life if we don’t make mistakes. Jorge gives Fernando a gift (a heavily beaded necklace) for protection. He explains that Fernando will be the same man as before, but will now have more harmony. Fernando half whispers to Jorge that he can’t walk around wearing that around Conceptos. Jorge explains that Fernando only needs to take the necklace with him. He can put it in a bag or in his pants. Jorge says that Fernando will thank him later. Fernando thanks Jorge right then.
In Marcia’s apartment Alicia announces to Marcia that she thinks they should live together! Marcia humors her a little. Alicia explains that they’re both beautiful, young and single. They live similar lives. They could go to work together, come back together and share all the costs. Marcia sarcastically agrees. Alicia replies that the apartment is awfully big for Marcia to live there alone. Marcia responds that Alicia really is a comedian. Alicia gets up and says that if Marcia and Fernando continue their relationship, Alicia could understand why Marcia would need to live alone but now Marcia is a member of the “army of abandoned women!” Marcia gets pissed that Alicia’s making a joke out of her situation. At that moment someone knocks on the door. Alicia says if it was her house, she would open it. Fernando walks in the door by himself. He and Marcia greet each other. Alicia exclaims that every time she sees him he’s more ugly. Marcia not so subtly asks Alicia to leave. Alicia hesitantly picks up her purse after Fernando points it out to her. Marcia pulls Alicia aside and says that she needs to be left alone. Alicia doesn’t understand why Marcia needs her to leave if Fernando only came for his things. Yes, Marcia says that’s why he came. What she doesn’t know is if Fernando’s going to stay. Alicia makes a plea for a way to get home. Marcia gives Alicia money for a taxi. Marcia tells Alicia to go down to the desk to call for a taxi. Fernando nervously asks why Alicia is leaving. He can tell she doesn’t really want to go. Alicia fluffs and leaves. Marcia closes the door behind her. She turns and tells Fernando that she didn’t think he would come tonight. He says he came for some stuff. She leads him into the bedroom. He slowly follows her. She walks over to his suitcase and says he still has a few things he needs to pack. She sees him grasping his body and asks if he needs help packing. Yes, thank you he softly replies. Fernando sits on the bed. Marcia watches him seat himself and changes her mind. She decides it’s a better idea that he pack his own things and leave. She proceeds toward the door but Fernando grasps her hand and pulls her back to him. He asks her to stay. He explains that if he takes all of his things it means that their relationship is really over. Marcia plays cool and acts like it doesn’t bother her. Fernando asks if Marcia thinks she can forgive him. If she they can give it some time so they can get back what they lost. Fernando says that he thinks they can have another opportunity together. (Marcia’s eye make-up has doubled in quantity just in time for her to have a crying scene.) Marcia asks Fernando if he really means what he’s saying. Fernando grasps her arm to painfully pull himself off the bed. He and Marcia share a soft (but noticeably passionless) kiss.
Back in Acapulco Lety asks Aldo if they are going to watch the sunrise again. Aldo asks if that would bother Lety. She replies that she would love it. The sunrise in Acapulco is beautiful and she doesn’t know if she’ll ever return to see the ocean. Aldo grabs Lety’s hand and says that she doesn’t have to leave. She should stay for a few days. Lety says that’s what she most wants to do but she can’t because she must go pack to Mexico. There are many problems at the company where she worked and she has to show her face to fix the problems. Aldo asks if Lety will encounter Fernando Mendiola. Lety solemnly shakes her head yes. They switch subjects to Aldo’s restaurant and how tomorrow there will be many people working on his restaurant to make his dream come to fruition. Aldo says that it’s all thanks to Lety. Lety replies that it’s really thanks to Aldo.
Good Lord. Grow up, Fernandito! You’re more afraid of being alone than a child is scared of the boogeyman in the closet. Blech. The kiss between Fernando and Marcia continues. He grasps his side and says that his face hurts. (really, that’s why you had to pull away? Good thing Marcia is a SUCKER and believes you) He apologizes. Marcia says he doesn’t need to explain himself. She knows that he’s in pain. Marcia says she will be patient because she believes in Fernando. This poor woman is so in love with this man and he can’t even look her in the eye.
Lety and Aldo have some Acapulco fun and run some horses along the beach.
Jorge Flores stands outside his house and pictures Lety by the ocean and many, many daisies. He says to himself that he must go to the ocean.
Lety and Aldo walk along the beach. The horse prepares itself to go to the bathroom in the background. (Guess he’s not an Aldo fan – Sorry, couldn’t resist!) Aldo tells Lety that he’s going to miss her. Lety softly kisses him on the mouth. She says that she would like to go back to the hotel on horseback, but doesn’t think she can. Aldo says that she would look very beautiful arriving at the hotel on horseback. He strokes her face lovingly. Lety asks if it is possible for love to love itself. Aldo replies that this is her talent (or condition – native speakers, help please!). Lety leaves him on the beach. The horse has disappeared.
Lety arrives at her cabin. She runs out past the hot tube to do one last Acapulco spin. She exclaims that she’s come to life again.
We interrupt this broadcast for a short commercial: Caro struts across the hotel. One of the hosts asks how everything went. Caro gives a glowing record of how great the hotel was. The host says this is the purpose of the Acapulco Princess and they are there to serve whatever need. Caro excuses herself. End commercial.
Marcia wakes up to a half empty bed. She quietly calls out Fernando’s name.
Erasmo tells Julieta that her frijoles are very tasty. Julieta stares off into space. Erasmo distracts her and asks for the cream sauce. Julieta still isn’t completely there and forgot to get the cheese sauce. Next, Erasmo asks for the onion. (Okay, Melinama was irritated by the white beauty queens. This is my PC moment. If my husband snapped his finger like that at me I think I would break it off. Apparently stereotypical beauty and misogyny are going to be theme of the week!) Erasmo wants to know what’s up with Julieta. Julieta says it’s nothing. Erasmo returns to complaining about the meal. Julieta laughs. The doorbell laughs. Erasmo, who apparently has no legs of his own, tells Julieta to answer the door. She rushes over and pardons herself to the mystery guest. It’s Tomas and his parrot hair! After talking to Erasmo he asks Julieta if she’s spoken with Lety. Julieta explains that she has not. Tomas says he needs to call the lawyers. Tomas walks into the house and Fernando sees an opportunity. He almost literally comes flying through the door. (Good idea, Fernando. Follow Omar's advice. Because that's not what got you in trouble in the first place now is it?) Julieta attempts to push him back out the door. She makes it clear that he’s not welcome. Erasmo grows legs and walks over to see what’s all the commotion. Fernando says that Lety stole his business. Erasmo asks “What did you say?” Erasmo wants to hear what Fernando has to say. Erasmo doesn’t understand. Lety stole Conceptos? Fernando confirms and asks where she is. Tomas successfully throws Fernando out of the house. Unfortunately, in the process Fernando and Tomas’s hands are shut in the door. Tomas scampers back into the house and shoves Fernando the opposite direction. Fernando pleads to speak with Erasmo. He swears through the door that he will not allow Lety to keep his business. Erasmo looks on trying to figure out what just happened. He demands answers but doesn’t look like he’s going to get any soon.
Aldo brings some fruit to Caro for she and Lety to enjoy before their trip. He hands the basket off to a waiter. Caro asks Aldo why he’s so content. He cannot believe that she noticed. Caro says that Lety is not breakfasting with her so she’ll be enjoying all that fruit alone. Aldo asks why. Caro says that Lety wanted to rest. Aldo asks Caro if Lety told her anything about what has happened with him. No, but Caro says that she can tell that Aldo wants to tell he something. He tells her that he and Lety kissed, and what a kiss it was! Caro comments to herself that it’s very beautiful to see Aldo in love.
Julieta ices Tomas hand. Julieta warns Tomas that he can tell Erasmo whatever he wants about the business, but to never reveal what happened between Lety and Fernando. Tomas plays dumb and says he doesn’t know what Julieta’s talking about. Julieta makes it clear that she knows everything. Tomas says he really needs to speak with Lety. Erasmo approaches and demands an explanation. Tomas says he’s going to call Lety. Erasmo holds out the phone.
Lety receives a call in her bedroom. She happily talks with Tomas. He asks if she’s coming back to Mexico. She confirms. He tells her about what happened with Fernando. Tomas says that her father has transformed into a panther. Erasmo grabs the phone and says that Lety must return immediately and show her face to these peoples. He hangs up on her. He warns Julieta and Tomas that they will tell him all the details about what happened.
Jorge Flores approaches Lety. She practically screams “What do you want?” Jorge asks about the fury he feels coming from her. She apologizes. He says no, I’m sorry, but you must know why I am hear. He says he needs to know her emotions in this moment. She says that all she feels is hate for Fernando Mendiola. Jorge warns her that if she returns to Mexico full of hate the only the she will lose is herself. The Lety who returns to Mexico should be strong. Nope, she continues with her hate speech. Jorge says he can help with this emotion.
It’s day time at Conceptos. Fernando borrows some food from Martha and asks if Marcia arrived. Saimon runs up to Fernando and notice the damaged hand. He asks Fernando about where he went to fight the night before. Fernando explains that it happened this morning and not in a fight. Saimon says that he can see that Fernando changed fighting in the night for fighting in the day. Fernando gets annoyed because Saimon speaks in English. Saimon and Fernando start to dance. Fernando gets frustrated and walks off.
Teresita expresses her happiness at the news that Marcia and Fernando are back together. Marcia says she knows but she’s still not convinced that Fernando won’t continue to act out because of that woman. Teresita says that now Fernando will only express his emotions for Marcia. Teresita says that Marcia needs to give Fernando time. Lola calls and says that Fernando arrived. Teresita complains that Humberto and Ariel aren’t there yet. Marcia tells Teresita that Fernando left the house that morning without saying good-bye.
Omar greets Fernando and asks for the days news. Omar asks if Fernando spoke with his father-in-law. Fernando re-hashes what happened earlier in the day at the Padilla household. Fernando says that he can’t do anything else. He has to leave it in the board’s hands.
Tomas is on the phone pleading with the lawyers to show up. Sanchez agrees. Tomas informs him that Lety will be in Mexico today. Tomas says he will await Sanchez’s call.
Tomas tells Erasmo that the lawyers are going to Conceptos. Erasmo wants it to be clear that Lety intends to return the business. Erasmo gets up to go somewhere. Tomas tries to detain him, but Erasmo stops him and tells Tomas that he is no longer welcome in the house. Ever. Erasmo leaves the house. Julieta consoles Tomas and explains that Erasmo is just really upset. Tomas worries that if he can’t come to the Padilla house he’ll never see Lety, Julieta or the refrigerator again. He asks if Erasmo is going to throw Lety out as well.
Lety pleads with Jorge that she wants a new life. She wants to continue changing. Jorge says the first thing Lety must do is get rid of all her negativity. Lety says she’s not able to think about Fernando. Jorge explains that she doesn’t have a choice. He tells her to take some water and to tighten it with much love and strength. He tells her to open it. There’s a flower. He says this is the intention of forgiveness.
Marcia walks into Fernando’s office. She asks him where he went. He explains that he went to see Lety’s father. He shows his hand in response and explains the altercation with Tomas. Lety goes to get some supplies to help care for his hand. Omar sings a little song and asks if Fernando and Marcia got back together. Fernando says they’re trying it out. Omar asks if Fernando is sure. Marcia walks back in and says that yes they’re back together. Omar sarcastically congratulates them and leaves. Marcia doesn’t care and leaves for ice for his hands. She comes back in to make sure that Fernando knows his place with the Padillas. He says that relationship is one only of hate. He absolutely knows it now. Marcia half smiles and leaves. Fernando asks himself how emotions can change from one moment to another, from beautiful to ugly.
Jorge tells Lety to close her eyes. He tells her to call Fernando. She says his name. He tells her to talk with him. She says she cannot talk with him or pardon him. Meanwhile, Julieta talks with a different God about putting all her angry and indignation in his hands. She pleads for His help with her and Lety. Jorge tells Lety to tell Fernando why she hates him. She stands and says that he used her even though he knew she was in love with him and fell more in love with him everyday. He continued to use her for his filthy interests. But what hurt the most is that he lost confidence in her because she demonstrated to him that she was unconditional with him. She hates him because he betrayed her and continues to betray her. She understands that he needed to show his parents that he was better than Ariel Villaroel and because of that was capable of whatever. He used her because he didn’t love her. She remembers when he told her that he would never let Ariel to take anything from him again. Jorge finally speaks and says that none of this justifies what Fernando did. Lety agrees that it doesn’t justify it, but now she understands his sentiments and anguish. Jorge asks if she can pardon him now. Lety stands up and says that she forgives him in the name of the love that she had and still has. It’s impossible for her to want anything bad for him. She wants him to continue his walk in peace and wishes the same love for him that she feels. She throws a flower into the ocean and declares one last time that she forgives him.
Alicia chases Marcia across the office and asks what Marcia is carrying. It’s ice for Fernando. Alicia must know if Marcia is back with Fernando. Marcia gives Alicia a blank face and no response.
Jorge gives Lety a necklace. He sits her in a chair of flowers with a crown of daisies. He explains the importance of the necklace. The symbols and the color has significance. Lety effusively thanks him.

Marcia's red dress was very lovely. I don't blame her for trying this reconciliation but I know from personal experience this is a great way to waste months or years and end up with the same heartache you started with. In this episode note that Alicia put a magazine across her lap so she could sit down. Heh heh.

For all his interventions Psychic Guy isn't making much headway. Why does he care, anyway?

I agree melinama about Marcia wasting her time; also, it is upsetting that Fernando would give her hope, knowing he will not stay with her. How can he go back to Marcia even temporarily, after only about 3 weeks of not being with Lety? Is he desperate. He has a problem living by himself? I find it hard to believe that Ocampy had this part happen. It takes away from the purity of the relatinship he had with Lety. Now she probably comes back and sees him with Marcia and she will be upset all over, even though she is the one that left and was with someone else first. Seems that lety only sees what she wants.

Well, I think Fernando went back to Marcia because 1. it's easy and 2. because he saw Lety with another man and thinks that she moved on so why shouldn't I?

I did like Marcia's dress, but I'm not too sure about the flat hair. She can be a pill sometimes but I do feel for her. She genuinely loves Fernando and doesn't want to accept that he will never love her the same way. I think most if not of all of us have been through that at some point!

Yesterday I saw a comment by "Lola" that said that deep down we all know that Aldo is the perfect man and that we just don't want to see him with Lety. That is true. How many of us wouldn't like to have a man like Aldo. I too want Lety back with Fernando but don't want to see Aldo hurt either.

We need to remember that the opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference. Lety is trying to work through her hate, but admittedly still loves Fernando. She's learned that loving him hurts and she's convinced that he never loved her. So, once she returns Fernando is going to have to prove that he really does love her. Not an easy task, especially if he is going to be hanging out with Marcia, AGAIN!!!

I so want Aldo to stay in Acapulco, so that we can consider him a vacation "fling". That, IMHO, is the purpose he serves for this story, but I think he's hooked on Lety and perhaps will turn into a stalker (just kidding, Aldo fans). He's going to cause more problems between Lety and Fer, and his presence in MC will most likely be needed in order for that to happen. Oh how I wish this wouldn't happen.

I laughed so hard last night when Marcia was bringing Fernando ice for his hand and Alicia made a comment about bringing ice for his drinks. Alicia can be so irritating, but you have to admit, she makes you laugh.

I was thinking the same thing as you, Amanda - what's the matter with Erasmo's legs? Get your own damn cheese, RoboPop!

RoboPop transforming into a panther reminded me of "Manimal." (If you don't remember "Manimal", consider yourself lucky.)

Anyone know when Lety learned how to ride a horse?

Oh - agreed on Marcia's dress. For a long while (a few months ago) she was wearing some very unflattering things. I'm not sure that red dress was ideal for a business environment, but then, a lot of her outfits strike me as too casual (even if expensive and pretty) for work.

Terrific recap, Amanda!

Every time Teresita comes into the picture, my stomach is in knots. She is snaky. (Her dress last night didn't do anything for her, either. It put ten pounds at least on her). That not-so-subtle digging about her son and Marcia....I cannot imagine any other mother doing something so inappropriate.

I wondered if Fern is feeling ashamed and embarrassed, torn when he tries to kiss Marcia because he knows he has behaved badly. Of course, he still loves Lety deep down and is as hurt as she was by his betrayal in some ways.

Jeanne

Jeanne. Not sure what you meant. He is as hurt about the way he behaved with lety as she is about the way he treated her? If that is the case, I agree. Still can't get over that he would kiss Marcia and lead her on, knowing that he doesn't love her and would go to lety when she returns.

Oops, sorry. I meant that maybe Fern pulled away from Marcia because he is embarrassed and as he kissed her he remembered how hurt she must have been by everything. Also, he is likely to be conflicted about kissing Marcia because he still loves Lety deep down. IOW, he is one confused guy! Marcia didn't seem to note, as Amanda pointed out, that he pulled back for any other reason than his face still hurts.

He is kissing Marcia because he does still care deeply for her at one level, but as many have observed, it really is more like a sister/brother relationship. All these factors cause him to be very, very muddled about his relationship to Marcia. He stayed with her overnight....out of habit? Because he is lonely? Maybe even he doesn't know.

Sorry that I morphed those thoughts so they weren't clear. It happens all the time. Just ask my husband....

;-)

Jeanne

I think he kissed her because he was touched by her concern - concern that he hasn't gotten from anyone else. She came all the way down to Acapulco, nursed his wounds etc. It's just gratitude, nothing else.

Those fingerprints you will see tonight around Fern throat are from me when I reached through my TV and tried to choke him for that tepid kiss with Marcia. What an idiot! Marcia is a colosal fool. She knows very well that Fernando doesn't love her, never mind that he once told her he was in love with Lety. She prattles on about having dignity and then allows him to stay with her. That doesn't show me any dignity at all, more like desperation.

I'm sure there is someone for Aldo but it won't be Lety. Frankly I think just as he is her rebound fling, she is his. I do love the idea of him going to MC and Fern seeing Lety with him. He was jealous of Tomas Mora for heaven sake, Aldo will send him ballistic.

It should be very interesting when Lety and Fern first see each other again with both of them posturing on about hate and not loving the other. That can be very hard to pull off in a work enviornment (speaking from experience on that one)

I only saw the final few minutes...WTF? Okay I know Lety was destroyed, I know Fer is a RatBastard...a little talk probably would of cleared up several awkward months of drivel...well then the story would have ended decades ago....but the whole Jorge on beach scene..Please the whole cleansing thing...was it just me or was this just way over the top? Gawd Lety you are like in your mid twenties at least...You are all shades of lucky that you have only been screwed over by two guys...Ooooops sorry I digress..anyway move on

Lety the wondergirl, deep sea diving with no training, horseback riding, riding on a motorcycle. Robopop would be horrifed if he knew what his nina has been up to in Acapulco. And, to think he was originally worried about her with all the fiestas and pachangas. :-)

I wonder if Lety will revert to her sweaters and frumpy clothes when she gets home? Or if she'll show up at Conceptos in her Acapulco finery.

Well I guess the gang knowing Lety was in Acapulco was just wasted information and there are probably more teasing fillers to come, like all that junk at the opening credits. All because they opted to extend the story - how stupid.

Question of the day. Will Julieta tell Lety she knows everything, that she read the infamous diary? Should be very awkward if she does.

Never mind the diving, horse back riding and motorcycle riding, wait until RoboPop finds out that his precious Lety slept with Fernando.

VERY convenient that Fern and Marcia decide to "try again" RIGHT before Lety returns, just to ensure that there is no way they will work out their differences like normal adults...no, instead the drama will continue.

I definitely feel that Marcia is NUTS for doing this, but I guess I know how she feels. We probably all know or have known women who would compromise an awful lot just to stay with a man (in particular or in general) and I have encountered that attitude a LOT in Latin cultures, too. Somehow that attitude of "needing" a man, even if it's kind of below the surface, can have a huge affect on people. I mean look at the two main influences in M's life right now pushing hard for her to be w/ Fer...whether it's good for her or not.

Thanks for the updates everyone! LFMB isn't fun for me right now (I'm shallow), so I've kind of bailed. I did manage to see Fern trying to act out his death wish - that was brutal! Still, I like to keep up via the recaps.

One non sequitar: I finally figured out who Aldo reminds me of. Aidan Quinn, albeit with a tan. Adds nothing to this discussion, but I had to get it off my chest.

He reminds me of Chris, Satan's sensitive boyfriend in South Park.

I can’t believe that Fernando went back to Marcia. But, alas, I can believe that he went back to Marcia. ¡Qué imbécil! And Marcia’s an even bigger fool to consider taking him back. Well, she and Ferni both take the advice of people least qualified to give it. Marcia listens to Mama T, who dismisses any fact, circumstance, or emotion that might prevent LA BODA, while Fernando keeps taking advice from Omar, even though his bright ideas have caused most of the trouble in the first place. Fernando has pointed this out on occasion, and yet he keeps going back for more.
As for the Conceptos Corporate Style, my fave would have to be Paula Maria’s funeral wear: Black blazer with appliquéd colored flowers, black tube top, black mini-skirt.

PM's clothing choice to wear to the funeral was pretty bad. At first glance I thought she was going out on the town.

I can understand how Fern would kiss Marcia...it's like somebody said before, it's hard to turn your back on somebody that really cares for you...even though you know you don't love them and it won't work out. It's a classic stupid mistake and heaven knows how many times I've made it. You spend all your time and effort willing to make it so when you really should be moving on.

I'm in total agreement on the fashion attire worn in the Conceptos corporate world and PM's funeral outfit was so inappropriate on so many levels. I even said to my sister, "I cannot believe she is showing her abs for a funeral." Perhaps she thought it was okay, after all the funeral was only for Mr. Mumbles.

Aldo and Adian Quinn....I can see the resemblence. As for Chris, Satan's beau, I'll have to check this out, as I'm not familiar with South Park characters except for Token---which I think is a brilliant name for the one and only black character.

Also, just a question, how does one get the accent marks and inverted punctuation marks? I have yet to figure it out, but I figure it involves using the ctrl key + some other keys. Am I right?

Thanks Amanda! You know I've read multiple comments from people who have said they wanted to strangle characters, or were screaming at them etc. I noticed I usually just observe the show and think to myself, rarely even laughing outloud, even at the funniest parts. That being said, I actually screamed out loud NOOOOOOO!!!!!! at the TV last night when Fer leaned in for his kiss with Marcia!!!!! Ugh!!!!!! Enough with these two, on again and off again!! I'm feeling like a ping pong ball and getting emotionally exhausted just watching them and their tortured excuse for a relationship!!! Thank heavens Lety is coming back home! It has to get more interesting now, doesn't it????

I really have to question Lety on her moral high horse ranting about how she hates Fern because HE hurt her parents. Whoa - for days Tomas had been telling her that there were serious problems and Fern was trying to reach her while she hung around on the beach simpering at Aldo. What did she think Fern was going to do - sit by while his family thinks she deliberately stole their business. If she thinks a simple statement that she stole the business is the worst thing her parents found out I can't imagine what she do when she finds out her mother knows EVERYTHING. She'll probably try to blame that one on Fern as well.

She is really getting on my last nerve.

Janet

Sorry about the double post. Don't know how that happened.

Janet

I agree. Lety needs to get off her high horse (no pun intended). I was shocked at her reaction last night. The day before she was crying about her kiss with Aldo and still loving Fern. And now, she is in a rage because Fern talked to her dad about the business. She left everyone high and dry when she took off on her little vacation and stayed despite everyone (including Caro) telling her to go take care of business.

I can understand her original decision to leave MC, so she wouldn't be there for the wedding. She found out within hours that it was cancelled. She knows Fern has made repeated atempts to contact her. Tomas has kept her informed of the worsening problems with Conceptos. And, despite all this she is blaming others for her problems.

A heart-to-heart between Fern & Lety is long overdue! I have been waiting patiently ever since he left her crying in the office on the day of the big meeting...Maybe by the end of the week we'll get a real scene with them.

Special characters - I think they are easier to do on a Mac (don't remember how any more, maybe opt-n for ñ?). There are a few ways to do it in Windows. The only way I know is to go into Regional Settings and choose the International Keyboard. Then you can do alt-n for ñ and right-alt-a for á or else singlequote-a. You may end up hating International Keyboard though if you often use the alt key for other things. (The left alt key still works in the usual way.)

You may have a similar int'l kbd option in Linux as well, depending on the distribution and version, but the last time I tried it in Ubuntu it was kinda clunky and annoying.

We'll probaby have to wait weeks for that heart to heart if history has anything to say about it. I know we've all been all over Fern for leaving her crying in the office the day of the meeting but in fact he was presiding over a very important board meeting and it would have been totally unprofessional of him to just stay in the office trying to clear things up with Lety. He did ask her to wait that he wanted to talk to her but she chose to head for the hills and brought all this hell down on all of them.

Lety also had a very bad and unattractive habit of listening at doors. I guess no one ever told her that eavesdroppers never hear anything good about themselves and she was also dumb enough not to stick around and hear the entire conversation.

Re: Lety and the horseback ride on the beach.....I figured it must be a stunt double since her right hand was down at her side when she rode across the beach. She was holding the reins in her injured left hand? I think not. But, it is telenovelalanq

Jeanne

Special character on a PC:
ñ = alt0241
á = alt0225
é = alt0233
í = alt0237
ó = alt0243
ú = alt250
ü = alt0252

I agree with anonymous about Lety's eavesdropping, but if she stayed around for the end of every overheard conversation, there wouldn't be much of a telenovela.

I agree that the scene with Lety and the psychic on the beach was over the top. (I believe someone said that earlier.) When I saw Lety sitting on a chair that was decorated with flowers, it looked like a bridal shower. As a matter of fact, didn't she marry the ocean? Also, if I saw him as I was walking out of my hotel room, I would have run to the authorities.

Is Tomas' tie getting shorter while his pompadour is getting taller? Just an observation.

Thanks for the fast recap Amanda.

Hey gang I was watching some taped episodes of Alborada a few days ago and I thought that the lady that played the Govenors Wife looked an alot like Teresita. Without the ridiculous wig of course. Does anyone know? Just curious.

I'm ready for Lety to get back to the city and face the music.

Rhonda

On Windows, try holding down the ALT button while typing
"160" on the number pad. That should give you the "á" character. ALT+161 gives you "í", and so on. ALT+164 is "ñ".

Rhonda's question about Julissa got my curiousity going. Alborada isn't listed among her credits on imdb.com, but they do feature a picture of her without the Darth Vadar wig:

Thanks for all the help w/ the special characters :-) That will come in handy, I am sure.

Julissa doesn't look so bad w/o the helmet hair, but she still cannot act her way out of a paper bag. Did anyone else watch Cristina w/ the stars from Heridas? They were talking about how many actors in novelas use a prompter to get their lines. Once I heard that I was convinced that is what Julissa does. It explains why she isn't interacting w/ the other characters in her scenes.

Good summary... but I couldn't help but notice(and laugh): "The doorbell laughs." I imagine that was a typo? Anyway good updates. I love them. I watch the soap, but I love to read the updates anyway to see the commentary. About putting the accent marks if you have windows, just go in ms word (or wordperfect, should have that option also) and insert symobls and scroll down until you find it (it will be the letter with accent mark on it) it's there. The punctuation, I don't know. I saw the original version: Betty La Fea (Ugly Betty) not to reveal too much but Betty (Letty) does get a makeover before going back to Eco Moda (Conceptos in this case) and of course everybody is shocked.

Yeah, that was a type. Maybe a subconscious one knowing who was at the door, but a typo nonetheless. :-)

I meant typo. ughhh...

A teleprompter...well, that would account for a lot. I came across an incredibly cheesy website devoted to Julissa and her theatrical credits include "Menopause: The Musical"; Kate in "Taming of the Shrew"; and Janet in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". The mind boggles.

Regarding the accents: I'm not sure about the etiquette regarding putting up websites, but as a French (and former Spanish) teacher, I have 2 links on my school website with 2 different ways to make accents for any language you want to. I'll check back later for our webmistress' permission to post the site.

Another way that also works in Word easily for Spanish is to simply hit "control" then the apostrophe key, then the desired vowel. That covers most Spanish accents. For French è or à accents, hit "control", the tilde key (above the tab key), then the desired vowel. Not sure it this works when posting comments, but for the trusty recappers, this could work if typing in Word and then pasting it in.

Oooh, South Park! I haven't watched it in so long. Now I simply must, to see if Aldo, er, I mean Chris has healed Satan's wounded psyche, too. ;)

Aldo reminds me of Joey from "Friends". He has similar facial expressions but with more hair and wrinkles!

You can also get special characters by using HTML coding. It seems to work in Blogger comment boxes.

For example, typing &a#acute; without the # produces á.

There's a chart here.
