La Fea Más Bella #195 1/24/07 Fer sees Lety again and becomes an artist , and I think we have the FI/Conceptos thing down now

We open with Aldo inviting Carolina to go with him to his friend Guillermo’s restaurant. She jokes no then says yes.

Now Marcia is recalling the Trash Bag Inquisition. Alicia walks in and finds Marcia worrying about seeing Lety again and tells her she shouldn’t because if she decides to support Humb she can do it from her house and we won’t see her. Tere comes in begging Marcia to come back. Now the baby whining begins; Marci doesn’t want to go and see her even though Tere tells her Humb says she’s indispensable. M finally agrees and T leaves. Alicia tells M no matter how dressed up Lety is that she is still ugly etc. and Marcia says, however she is, Fer fell in love with her. Alicia trys to build up her esteem by telling her how superior she is and elegant and distinguished (you know all those empty shell adjectives); that she used to crawl over Persian rugs. But she does say that M should go in with force and look decisive and destroy Lety with her look. She demonstrates the look. Yeah, that might destroy a few things!

Outside the cuartel is trying to figure out why Lety is there. They speculate as to how they might find out more. They turn to discussing the look on Marcia’s face when Lety walked in and saying how awful, and upset etc. She catches them and they fake talking about Lola’s telenovela again. Marcia tells them to get to work.

Marcia walks in to the conference room and wants to know where “she” is. Humb says she’s making some calls. H- Lety will cooperate with us, but it was very difficult to convince her because she is anxious to get all this over with once and for all.
Marcia wants to know what she wants. Humb said right now nothing, but she’ll tell us.

Lety tells her Mom she accepted coming back. She tells her it’s partly her fault anyway. Mom asks her if she is going to sign anything and Lety says not until the lawyers arrive. She tells her to tell her Papa that everything is fine. Mom asks her if she is prepared to encounter Don Fer, she says no but she has to confront it and tolerate him. Mom is proud and tells her to march right in there. J - You are not the same as when you were secretary; now you are brave and sure of yourself. And she does…..

Fer watches her with a nervous but little boy smile like he can’t stand looking at the candy and not being able to eat it. Lety is quite reserved. Don't know about you, but this whole encounter was quite anti-climactic to me. What a bummer.

Ariel says she doesn’t know how much they were waiting for her. She flashes back to Aldo’s advice. Fer thinks “Mi Lety”

Aldo & Caro are with Guillermo. G asks A, “Do you remember you told me you were writing a book about a year ago. Have you finished it?” Aldo wonders if he thinks people will read it. He wonders if Guillermo wants him to edit for his restuarant association but he says no, he wants to put it into a package. He has an idea and wants Aldo to promote Mexican Cuisine at the international level. They smile "wow".

Everyone is looking very tense and stern. Except Fer. Fern seems like a 7 year old amusing himself as the only child at an all adult function. (Now go color in the corner little boy....) We see Fer sketching a doodle of Lety. It’s not too bad actually. Wonder if he really drew it or it’s a prop. Can’t figure out why he does this, but he leaves the room. I guess to compose. He excuses himself and goes to the rest room. He sighs and then takes out his fea picture of Lety and kisses it, then smiles. Why couldn’t he have the cajones to kiss the real thing!!! MI LETY. She is claimed again.

Humb also wonders why he left, but says they won’t wait for him.

Fer returns. Humb knows there have been problems, with what Lety and Fer did, but we need to put that all aside. Fer and Lety exchange knowing yet nervous looks. Humb asks for the next 6months that everyone works as hard as possible to get the business out of it’s mess. He expects their maximum cooperation.

Ariel asks Lety what her conditions are to save the business from the crisis that Fern, with her help got us into. Lety says we better wait for the lawyers to show up. Marcia asks then why isn’t their lawyer Santamaria there? Humb says the lawyers are on their way, but remember they are not here to resolve quarrels between us, only to advise us about legal implications. Everyone is a little impactado, but Teresita just pouts looking bored.

We go back outside of the court room where Lola and Cheque are parting and he tells her that he thinks they should get rid of the lawyers and put aside their differences and handle it between themselves. This pisses Yasmin off as she perceives him warming up to Lola. He shrugs her off. Lola notes how interested the husband stealer is in all this because she wants my house and all my money, and my children’s inheritance etc. Yasmin denies and says she just wants it over, so he can marry her. Cheque tells Lola she needs to at least give him time to find another lawyer. She offers him hers. Che says he’s good for nothing. She says she knows, that’s why he can have him. Lola then tells off her lawyer that he didn’t open his mouth the entire time and she’s going to get another one to solve all her problems. She takes his brief case away and then throws it back at him! Che calls her rude. Yasmin essentially yells at him for being a wuss.

The HHAs show up at Conceptos, HHA1 brings chocolates for Sara. Marta tries to take them. He tries to tell S they have a conversation pending. He gives Marta the empty gift bag. The HHAs comment on Sara's look during the gifting and then walk over to Oxi "bella dama" telling them they are here to see Lety and ask her if she will advise her that they are here. She tells them she works for the president and doesn’t have to advise Lety of anything. WWWWhhhhhaaattssssss wwwiiittthh all the sttttttttt udddderrring? He doesn’t always do that! Must be the “shoulder pads.”

Sara tells Oxi she better go because they are obviously here for something important so go and see. Oxi tells her not to order her around. Sara tells her fine stay there and keep painting herself pretty while she goes in to announce them. Oxi says go ahead, then when Sara does, she asks where S is going and she goes instead and announces them. She comes out to send them in and they have chocolates for Oxi too. The HHAs thoroughly enjoyed the cat fight and make observations about the two women. HHA 2 says he saw the passion with which Oxi took the chocolates from him! HHA 1 tells him chocolates never fail, take it from an expert. They discuss the crime of love. As they walk away Oxi calls him an impotent ualado?

Alicia banana fana bo banadana fallana (or whatever) enters to announce the HaHAs. The lawyers enter the conf. room. They begin confirming the telephone conversation. We hear essentially the same discussion as always about how they need to keep FI to avoid the banks calling in the debts of Conceptos. And that they expect to cure the debts after 6 mos. Tomorrow is the latest they should oppose the judicial decision, they decide.

Again the banana interrupts and announces Santamaria. The HHAs greet him enthusiastically. Again a rehash to him from Humb. The lawyers explain that legally Lety is responsible for FI, so how Conceptos is handled depends directly on her. Lety looks around nervously. Fern smiles.

Aldo says he’s a chef, not a publicist. He doesn’t see how he can promote Mexican Cuisine, but his friend convinces him that no one knows the cuisine better than he does and that he’s the best for it. He knows all the food origins etc. He wants Aldo’s perspective like he writes in his book. Aldo accepts, deciding he’d like people to know the meanings and the unity of natural ingredients, water, land etc. Of course something existential. The friend agrees and wants it to be about the flavor of life, which of course is Aldo’s restaurant idea.

Back at Conceptos, Tere’s little pea brain doesn’t quite comprehend what HHA 1 is saying. They explain it again. This time Santamaria does it again.

Ariel interrupts again, his brain is slightly larger, but he doesn’t quite get it either. He still thinks Lety is forcing them to let her manage the business for her own gain.

Fer continues his masterpiece unphased by the adult happenings around him.

Lety says on the contrary what she wants is to be as far away from all this as possible. The lawyers say again how much the business is wrapped around her and her good will, and that she is vital to keeping things going. Besides everything is registered in her name so she has every reason to be vigilant and on the up and up. Lety pipes up saying she doesn’t like this one bit and though she doesn't mind keeping FI in exsistence, she doesn’t want to have anything to do with all of them. So, Ari says then Conceptos will just be on paper again and we’ll just make up some reports to give to her every so often to keep her happy .

IT SPEAKS! Fer interrupts to clarify that it’s not just a sham company but that it gets the loans to support Conceptos and pay suppliers etc.. Ariel says ok, so then FI only needs a legal representative to keep Conc. functioning as it should. Fer mocks him and says that’s right and that he finally understands, and that so the president of FI is much more important than the Prez of Conceptos! Lety smiles then catches herself and stiffens up again. And he returns to drawing his princess. But I noticed there is already a signature at the bottom. Don’t most people sign it when they are done????

Aldo asks when he can see Lety, and Caro tells him she doesn’t know , but she has to fix all the things with Conceptos etc. She reminds him he needs to give her time to fix everything. Aldo can’t stand it he wants to tell her how much he loves her. Caro doesn’t know if Lety is prepared to deal with love again. He manages to convince her that even though he knows all this he needs to have an opportunity to pursue Lety. It never hurts someone to know that someone really loves them. He begs her for the address of Conceptos, she says she’ll give it to him but later, because she has an important meal, and she wants him to invite her to dinner later so they can discuss Gui’s tempting proposition.

Lola finally gets there, of course all out of sorts, mad she was late and she recounts the fact that Lety’s lawyer was Cheque’s and dumped him on the spot. She finds out Sanchez is there and wants to see if he’ll take her case.

Saimon walzes in singing and flirting with PM. He asks if there is any gossip of Lety. Out of nowhere Yasmin pops in and he drops PM's hand and she falls backwards. She gets up with hair in her face… Yasmin tries her femine charm to get Saimon to let her upstairs.

PM says she may not even be authorized to go upstairs, she calls Lola and tells her the witch is here asking about her severance. Lola says hell no, she can come another day her money’s not ready. She sneaks upstairs anyway when PM is yelling at Simon so PM calls back and tells Lola she’s coming anyway. When she gets up there, she snubs Oxi who comments that someone must have left the chicken coop door open. Lola tells her her check isn’t ready yet, didn’t she get that, no, of course not all she knows is how to steal husbands. Yasmin threatens to get Lopez, but Lola says no sorry, he ain’t here. She’ll speak with any of the officers, but Lola explains they are all in the meeting. Y says she’ll wait, but they say they’ll be really late.

Back at the meeting Ariel says well if she’s going to be responsible for both businesses then they need to elect a new president. Lety says she has the right to decide and she picks Humb. M agrees. Fer runs down what that means. Humb objects quite defiantly. Santamaria interjects that Conceptos should maintain the image it had under Fer, Ariels says the image of debt? Santamaria proposes Lety should be in charge. Lety protests. There is much discussion about why she should and finally Lety accepts. Marcia says then she will leave. Lety tells her not to, but Marcia says everyone needs you more than they need me so you need to stay, but I can’t hang around. Lety leaves too. Tere is mad about Lety being pres, Humb is mad at her and he tells her everyone needs to be right where they are.

So now Humb goes to talk to Lety. She doesn’t want to assume this position under such conditions, having to see Fer and Omar, and Marci has now resigned. He tells her that she was partly responsible for what happened and this is the price she has to pay to fix it, it’s not a reward. If she really wants to help them then she’ll do what he says. {Come on little girl, jump in my van….} He asks her if she hates Conceptos so much, she says no, she has friends etc. he says well then it’s more tolerable of a penance. She wants to think on it and he lets her off until tomorrow and thanks her. After he leaves, she asks herself why she is being tested so hard.

Great recap! She's being tested so hard to see if see's learned anything or, as someone has suggested, just traded one dominant male figure for another? Did she deal with her issues or just remove herself from them?

It was kind of anti-climactic - I was looking for L & F to inadvertently get on the elevator alone together, wind up in her cubby...something. Did love the look she gave him for his mocking Ariel.

Thanks! I think the meeting between Lety and Fern was very realistic (ie unusual for a telenovela). Hombre, they have grave issues and Fern was never great at discussing - or dealing with - difficult things.

Great recap, K! I don't know if I could have sat through all that business mumbo jumbo. I did like it when Fernando cut Ariel down a bit.

I have to agree that the meeting was realistic. I think if Fernando and Lety would have run into each other in any other situation she would have taken off the other direction!

Great recap K...I enjoyed Fern looking at Lety and drawing..That was sooo cute....I even saw that afer Fern was speaking to Ariel, Lety tried to hide back a smile. Now, we get to read about Aldo's hippie thoughts...oh well, the plus is that he really loves Lety. Can't wait till they meet (Aldo & Lety).

Lety seems to deal with issues by her visual of Aldo espousing his words of wisdom and life experiences. I thought the cleansing process in Acapulco would help her to stand on her own two feet and make rational decisions by herself, along with the guidance of the two Filmo Imagen lawyers. They are so cute and funny-not the so-called professional as is the Conceptos lawyer, but so lovable..

Last nights board meeting is one of my favorites of the entire show so far. The look on the face of Fern when Lety walked in was not one of a man who told Marcia that his relationship with Lety was over..Running to the bathroom to compose himself and kiss her picture, was a classic of our show..I almost cried myself. His love for her is almost overwhelming and it's impossible to hide..

Lety's anger is so deep I'm not sure she'll ever get past it.Understandable, but it will only consume her..I love the many wonderful qualities of Lety..How will she handle the duties and responsibilities of El Presidente de Conceptos? The next few months should be quite interesting..Maureen

There's a non-spoiler video on youtube that has a nicely edited scene about a third of the way through it of Lety & Fernando meeting again. I found it a few days ago, and have been waiting to see it played out. I think it shows the intense emotions they were both feeling but had to hide, in Lety's case probably even from herself, while Fern had to leave the meeting and go compose himself. It seemed understated and really well-acted, and as Melinama said very realistic for a telenovela. Anyway if you search for "me llego el amor" on www.youtube.com, you'll find the video. The song is sung by Jaime Camil.

I just wish Lety would drop...the Who Me? routine..she played a major role in the the whole scandel, I get it that she did it all for "LOVE", well so do people who whack the lovers spouse...IT is still not ethical...So suck it up and do what it takes.

His drawing: did you notice how lovely Lety was in it? That's how he sees her now. Splendid.

Fern's drawing of Lety really did make her look pretty. In fact, I thought "there's a market out there for prints of that drawing, it looks so good."

yes i did notice melinama...awwww..i get all goooey inside just thinking about it...

--->Lety seems to deal with issues by her visual of Aldo espousing his words of wisdom and life experiences...
I totally agree with that sentiment..it's kinda upsetting to see her do that but what can you do.

Great Recap. I really look forward to them. Is it me or did anyone else notice that Martha looks pregnant. I know that she is always eating but she really looked pregnant last night.

Marycelis: fyi: the reason you can't find "hornitorinco" is because the word is ornitorrinco. (It's often mangled in the captions.) It's a platypus. And, in my opinion, it's quite cute. :-)

If Martha looks pregnant lately, it's probably because her fat suit doesn't seem to fit properly. Especially when she sits down, the "fat" part rides up, making her look preggers.

Last night, as I was watching, and someone called Alicia a banana, I was reminded of the Bic Banana. Remember the Bic Banana? Big fat yellow "ink crayon" of yesteryear?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTSUsNbJtSU

Also, watching Rosales pantomiming through all of Sanchez's little speeches reminded me of Teller, of Penn and Teller.

I also noticed that Sanchez's stuttering continued throughout the meeting. Perhaps it's something that happens when he goes too long without any tequila.

I always assumed that Martha just had a pillow under her blouse -- I didn't think they'd go so far as to get an actual "fat suit".
I'm curious to see how far the Sánchez-Sara thing will go. An hombre de altura he ain't!
So I guess tonight we're going to be treated to yet another Teresita-Marcia counseling session, Dios nos ayude, with Mama T convincing Marcia not to quit. Dignidad, blahblahblah,la mujer esa, blahblahblah.
I hope that when Lety assumes the presidency, she'll get at least a little revenge on Malicia and Luigi.

Thank you for the recap.

Two things:
Wasn't that drawing of Lety on her office wall before she quit? Looks very similar.

I can see where Fernando gets his charm....did you notice how Humberto seemed to turn on the charm and get all smoldering and close to Lety?? I bet he was a lady killer at one time. I thought he just might grab Lety and kiss her.

Oh, maybe it is a pillow and not a fat suit. All I can tell is that it's not staying where it's supposed to be.

I don't Lety needs to do anything special in order to get "revenge" on anyone. Her mere presence seems to ruin their day. If it were me, I think that'd be revenge enough, knowing that I occupy so much otherwise vacant real estate in so many heads.

BTW, it just occurred to me to ask, does "Malicia" refer to Alicia only, or is the combination of Marcia + Alicia?

LOL, Barb! Humbo did sorta seem to be pouring it on a bit thick. If he had actually kissed her, I think that would result in the immediate implosion of Conceptos and probably all neighboring businesses as well. :-)

And that was a good call on the sketch. It does look a lot like the sketch that Eduardo drew of Lety after her saint's day lunch.

OH! Did you also notice how Ariel--supreme hater of Lety--sprang out of his chair like a jack-in-the-box when Lety walked into the meeting room. I think he was the only man in the room who stood when she entered.

Julie, I did find ornitorinco actually..i just didn't think it necessary to put it in..but before i looked it up all i could picture was some sort of oven or a little oven (horno) that's why i had to find out what it was. I know Spanish but sometimes I never hear certain words mentioned.

Sorry, I saw where you had asked about it yesterday, didn't know you had found an answer.

I DID notice that Ariel got up. I couldn't figure out if he was being polite for safety's sake, or if it was some bizarre form of sarcastic courtesy (like he used to call her "Licenciada" in the old days, just for the irony).

Loved the recap and the episode. The analogy of Fern like a kid looking at candy was just right. He reminded me of an ansty little boy waiting for something almost twiching and saying please, please, hurry up. Then when Lety comes in he has to look down at the table either because he was afraid she might rip into him or that he might jump up and give the game away. The trip to the men's room to compose himself was hilarious and then pulling out the picture to kiss it. Priceless. What is it about men in this novela with their picture kissing?

Humb is a pro at running meetings and the buiness and certainly manipulating people as he is with Lety. He did irk me when he refused to be President of Conceptos because of all the fraud. How holier than thou.

Fern busy throughout the meeting drawing Lety's picture just killed me. I've sat through enough boring meetings myself but never found myself doing a full blown portrait. Of course Omar the twit leaning over his shoulder to watch - should make an interesting rehash scene.

I just loved the side looks of both Lety and Fern when the other was explaining things usuallly to the snake. You can feel the emotion, great acting by both of them.

Note to Marcia. Your broomstick is beside the door, hop on and ride away. Spoiled witch. The fact that she knows the whole story of what happened between Lety and Fern is her own fault for her nasty little bit when Lety was trying to leave Conceptos with dignaty.

One more thought about Aldo. The other day he was talking to Caro about how he loves Lety for her good heart, honesty etc even if she is fea that doesn't matter to him. I think that Aldo sees her as ugly but loves her inspite of it or thinks he does. Fern on the other hand sees her as beautiful and also loves her for the things she is. In a million years I can't imagine Aldo whipping out that hideous picture of Lety, showing it to perfect strangers and saying isn't she beautiful, isn't she divine. Fern did and to me shows that the depth of his love for her is far greater than Aldo's.

that's okay Julie, i think it looks cute tooo...let's see how everything goes today. I am not sure what I am hoping to see (other than Lety/Aldo reunion per previews) but maybe Fern and Lety meet again? Comparing it to original, I can definately say one thing about LFMB, there are some great laughs and I am enjoying every one of them.

Let's give a dog his due (Ariel)..Yes, I noticed that he was the only man who stood up when Lety entered the room..

Obviously, that's not a protocol or accepted as mannerly in Mexico to stand when a woman enters the room..If I walked into a public forum, restaurant, conference room or whatever and the men didn't stand,I'd be totally insulted..I think LFMB gives us an indication of how women are treated in the Latin American countries..Whoever pointed that out, you're very perceptive and I thank you.Mo

Re the comment about the snake standing when Lety entered the room I was actually surprised that the other men didn't. Basic common curtesy dictated that they should have, especially since she is the savior riding to rescue the business. Perhaps that isn't customary in Mexico. I know most men in the business I worked in didn't stand when woman came in to a meeting. In some ways I think that they are still showing her she is beneath them much like the continued use of usted.

Diana

decie girl, that was so insightful and I totally agree (about Aldo pulling out the Lety pic, etc.)...i am getting all goeey inside again knowing Fern's love for Lety...awwww

I'm absolutely twiching ala Fern at the thought of tonight's episode. Looks like our girl is going to be in charge, thanks apparently to an Also pep talk if the previews are right. If so I can hardly wait for Luigi's reaction. I can hear the Oh My Gods even as I type and am guessing there will be three or four of them.:-)

Alicia, secretary to the President of Conceptos? I think it is trip back to the scretarial pool for her and a mighty comedown. Oh I feel the laughs coming. I also suspect it will be awhile before we get a face to face Lety Fern meeting - shucks.

Drat that typo I meant Aldo but it must be Freudian that I typed Also. It also expresses how I feel about the character.

Great recap, Kris! Thanks so very much for all the nice detail and editorials! Love that new picture on the sidebar, too. Look like you should be line dancing......

Julie, I only meant Alicia when I used "Malicia" the first time. It could just about do for both, though! To me, Alicia was the worst but Marcia is catching up fast.

I was excited to see Ariel hold his tongue more than usual, and it was cute (as some noted) that Lety chuckled behind her hand when Fern set him down. That's the most assertiveness I've seen from Fern in a while and it makes me wonder if Fern is getting his soul back when Lety walks back into his life. He seemed to have lost it for a while there.

Humberto should sell used cars. Yazmin or whatever her name is deserves a shaking.

Today's comments were neat to read!

Jeanne

One more thing--did anyone notice that in that lovely drawing of Lety, it had one of her old necklines, not like the suit and top she's wearing in the meeting? Are we to take it that Fern is seeing the prettiest things about his "old" Lety? I played it back three times when I realized that picture was not exactly what he was seeing. It was so precious!

Jeanne

Ornitorinco comments today (if Luigi makes an appearance anyway)...my thoughts are on Jazmin too..how is that going to pan out...

I have a scheduling question does everybody get the same schedule for all these novelas (Duelo, LFMB and Mundo in that order?) Sometimes I see the recaps posted in different order

As far as I know, it's Duelo-Fea-Mundo everywhere, but it takes each of us a different amount of time to do the recap, depending on other things we may be doing that evening (like once I went online in the middle of a recap to look something up, and got distracted by a "poetic justice" discussion here for over an hour), how energetic/tired we are at the moment, how Spanish our brains are that evening (some nights my brain is more Spanish than others), and what was in the episode (how important, how entertaining, and - for me at least - how many words I need to look up).

cool..thanks for the info...i was watching LFMB yesterday with captions. I only get spanish captions but i would so love to get english ones, that would be neat, don't need the english ones but would be cool nonetheless.

"I also noticed that Sanchez's stuttering continued throughout the meeting. Perhaps it's something that happens when he goes too long without any tequila."
Excellent theory. I'll bet he and Rosales were jonesing for una copita.
Diana's last comment triggered a question that's been bugging me for months: Does anyone know why Lety and Fernando have never (not even in bed) used the tú form?
Thanks for clearing up ornitorrinco, hopefully I will stop mentally translating it as "little corner stove".

>>>>Thanks for clearing up ornitorrinco, hopefully I will stop mentally translating it as "little corner stove".
LOL...Good visual

I'm beginning to develop of list of questions I wonder will ever be answered as we go along.

What was the big deal about the gang knowing Lety was in Acapulco?

Will Fern ever learn she was there at the same time he went on his I want to die bender?

Will Lety ever learn that Fern was the pobre she saw being beaten and drunk in Acapulco?

Will the cartel spill the beans about Marcia demanding to know what was in Lety's bolsas thereby letting Fern know that Lety did not betray him?

Why the missing use of tu?

Little things but they wear on my mind when I try to go to sleep.

Speaking of the drawing I can't remember if the teddy bear drawing that Fern gave Lety was good or just a stab at it or did Lety and fern suddenly morph into Da Vinci clones?

If it's any consolation, for a while I thought it was "corner stove" too. But I couldn't bring myself to put that in a recap because I had a feeling that Luigi wasn't trying to say that Lety was hot. :-)

Tú vs. Ud. for F&L - Amanda has talked about this before (their unequal social and professional status, etc.) and I guess one way to put it is that using the formal term was a way of acknowledging the illegitimacy and dishonesty of their affair. Perhaps "usted" served as a sort of linguistic safety barrier between them.

Confusingly, I was taught (in high school) that "usted" was the "polite" form, when in fact it's formal, which isn't the same thing at all. Anyway, the "rules" vary widely from one area to another, so I don't blame the teacher for not wanting to tackle that thorny subject when she knew that ser and estar were right around the corner.

I've read a lot about tú vs. Ud. since then, and I'm still not sure I know exactly how it works in any given geographical area. :-)

Just a couple of thoughts-I'm with beckster Lety needs to suck it up and do the right thing as far as helping save the business.
I wanted to smack Fernando last night, here is his father making every effort to save a 35 year old family business, which Fernando and Lety almost brought down and Fernando is sketching a drawing of Lety, like a 14 year old school boy. This is the time to show his father he can be responsible. P.S. I still love him.
There is something almost conspiratorial about Aldo and Caro's conversations about Lety, like they are planning her life. I think it's very patronizing.
Lastly, Caro's outfit last night was ridiculous. All she needed was a cage to dance in.

Just read some comments from yesterday.. Marycelis, I just meant to add that you had mentioned the "moustached corncake" too, not just mentioned by Sylvia. Wanted to give due credit that's all.

And all this platypus talk? At first I wondered if I missed something. I actually didn't know what that was either a while back in my "pre-caption" days and I was trying to figure out what the hell a corner oven had to do with anything in one of my recaps. Light bulb went off after that one became clear!!

I too noticed Lety's braid length. I just thought it's a hairpiece that they add on to her real hair, (like extensions or something) and sometimes it's longer than other times depending on how they get it in there.

P.S. Anonymous with Beckster - I agree totally with your sentiments. Except for Lety. I wouldn't wish anyone the sentence of spending more time in that dysfunctional hellhole of Conceptos with all those wacked out people and insulting personalities! I say a realistic ending is that she'll have a psychiatric breakdown and end up like many fine telenovela actresses before her, in the rubber room. Can you imagine? I think that would be great. Of course Fern would have to still rescue her from permanent institutionalization iand self destruction in the finale. :) HA!

I've long given up on tu/ud. I remember watching a novela when the irate hero hired his lover to work as maid in his house and told her that no matter what the relationship had been she was to refer to him as ud. He continued to call her tu but corrected her if she did the same. That confused me. My husband who learned his Spanish in Mexico said that ud is used except among intimate friends and family when tu is used. He also said that people of a superior class may/will use tu when speaking to inferiors or servants. At that point I threw up may hands and just use ud.

I also though that Caro's clothes in the last few episodes have been a little off the wall for a professional woman. She did look like a go go dance with those white plastic boots, which God forbid I do remember wearing to work. I do love her jewelry even if those earring were a bit too long even for me. Maybe Caro isn't the best choice as a personal shopper for Lety.

I'm in complete agreement that Caro and Aldo are out of line with their indepth discussions of what is good for Lety. It does sound condescending. Perhaps they mean well but after all Lety is an adult not some teen who needs advice from Dr. Phil and a three time divorcee.

Just to make things a little more confusing, I read that in Spain, it is borderline rude to call someone "usted" if you know them at all. Because there, "tú" implies trust and "usted" implies "I don't know you from a bum on the street." That was the point at which I threw up my hands. In one place you'll offend if you say tú, in another place you'll offend if you say Ud. I give up. The safest thing to do if you find yourself in that position yourself is to observe what other people are doing, and hope you're not surrounded by unusually rude people.

But it does make sense to me that Lety, seeing Fern as her superior, would call him Ud. And Fern, knowing that she is in fact his intellectual superior in ever way, would call her Ud. as well. And it wouldn't even occur to him to say "hey, let's tutear," because he knows he can't afford to let their relationship get that comfortable.

Boy, this Marcia/Fern/Lety/Aldo stuff is depressing!

Yay! I'm so happy we had some Fernand/Lety action because that was my birthday episode!

I was unable to stop my loud, "Awwwww!" when Lety smiled at Fern's teasing and when Fern was drawing Lety and when he thought/said, "Mi Lety."

I totally agree with the comments that 1. Aldo sees Lety as ugly and loves/thinks he loves her in spite of that and 2. Aldo and Caro sound like they are planning Lety's life when they talk about her and it is patronizing. How long was Lety really in Acapulco, about a week? (I know it was a month of shows.) I don't think Aldo has known her long enough to love her the way he thinks he does. And talking philosophy AT someone is not the same as talking WITH them and getting to know them.
(Loved Fern yesterday…..he was acting so cute. Now he just needs to correct that recent, big mistake of going back to Marcia’s place. Yuck.)

Last night's episode made me love Fern even more. He couldn't be more adorable.

One thing that bugged me that no one has addressed is how Aldo wanted the address to Conceptos when he knows she has serious business to take care of. Does he think she has to have him there to have "his strength," or is it just his selfish agenda to profess his love. You don't just don't do a drive by at someone's workplace like that. I think he just wants to get a look at the competition. Hating Aldo more each day.

I have a feeling the bolsas will end up in the arms of Fernando..Doesn't the wicked witch of Conceptos have them under her desk or nearby? After all, she ordered Lety with bags in hand into her office on her way out the door.

Oh, to think Marcia wanted to resign and Lety doesn't want her to..The venom that has come from her mouth against Lety is so vicious..Not one for any kind of violence, but Lety should have taken her out behind Conceptos and beat the "hell" out of her before she departed for Acapulco.Payback to Marcia cannot come too soon..

I thought Lety looked rather professional last night, but have a feeling the slick down hair, extended eyebrows and braces on the teeth, and God forbid those white panty hose, will be around for months to come..Mo

Hey Dave, you know Pupusas aren't just about being "really popular in LA right now?"

These are one of the staple foods of El Salvador and they have been eaten in various forms for tens of decades whether the rest of the world "discovers" them now or not. I assure you that El Salvadoran Pupuserias have been around several decades, especially in LA.

And yes they are similar to a Tlacoyo...

I enjoyed the board meeting last night and the looks that Lety and Fernando were giving each other. However, I wonder if they were really together during that board meeting. When Lety walked in, Fernando was seen sitting near where she was standing. Afterwards, they were not seen together in the meeting. You either saw Fernando or Lety, but not the two of them together. Is it possible that they were not together in the room during that scene? I believe that they are superb actors and can independently act in a scene.
Also the editing could have been better. In one scene Fernando is busy drawing a picture of Lety and as the camera moves away from him you see a folder that is closed in front of him. Immediately afterwards you see him working on the drawing - as if he had never put it down.
In any case, I think that Fernando kept a distance from Lety during that meeting because he needs her to save Conceptos and he thinks that she hates him. Their distance may bring them closer together in the end.

I thought it is completely absurd that Aldo will show up at Conceptos. Caro told him several times to wait and Lety is dealing with some serious business. He is quickly becoming a stalker and it would freak me out if some random vacation friend showed up at my workplace the next day with no call/email, etc. He has known her less than a week and is obsessed.

Also, with his hair styled and the white jacket and necklace...he looks like he stepped of the set of the "70s show." Yikes!

Loved Fern and he's drawing. I have come to the conclusion that he should be the new Executive Producer. Maybe the problem was the whole time he was groomed to take over Conceptos, he really wanted to be an artist, but was afraid to tell his father. Maybe he's not cut out for President but could whip up some better storyboards for the commercials than Lugli.

I think Lety's first order of business should be firing Alicia and getting a real secretary.

And for all those that were mentioning that HUM was a lady killer in his day...didn't the show start out with Fern becoming President and a big deal over who his secretary would be. I thought the back-story was that HUM had an affair with his secretary and that’s why Marcia was so paranoid about Fern having a pretty secretary. That’s were we get Alicia, the nosy friend and Lety, la fea.

I think a lot of the problem with filming the meeting is the tight set in the board room. Usually they have everyone on one side of the table so they only have to do one shot. But with the table full the probably have to do a lot of set changing to get both sides of the table and not see off stage or the other cameras.

I think the reason Fern and Lety weren't shown together in the boardroom is that they were sitting on opposite sides of the table. Fern was on the shareholders' side and Lety was on the lawyers' side. There's no way to have them both in frame at the same time unless you shoot over either Ariel's or Humbo's shoulder, which would be a little weird.

Oh but they did shoot from sorta that angle not too long ago - Tomas's first visit to the boardroom. Remember the POV shot from Tomas's perspective? But otherwise, it's an awkward angle and I can see why they wouldn't use it very often.

Someone mentioned Aldo's posture and those tight pants..Bad polys and bad posture? Aldo seems to have way too much free time..I agree about dropping by someone place of employment.Only in the world of telenovela, would that be tolerated..If Aldo rides off down the matrimonial trails with Lety,he's still not in the league with Fernando..Excusing himself last night to get composure in the bathroom after Lety's grand entrance, makes him sooooo cute..He tried to smile at her but she rebuffed him..I felt so bad for him..Maureen

Oh, you're right Jewels - they probably had to shoot that scene at least twice to get both sides of the table. That must have been a long day!

"Now he just needs to correct that recent, big mistake of going back to Marcia’s place."

It would be nice if Ferni would think things through before jumping into action. But then we'd have no telenovela, would we? Maybe part of his motivation for getting back with Marcia is wanting to please los papás. Lord knows Helmet Head doesn't care about anything except la boda and Humberto came right out and said he'd never forgive Fernando for calling off the nuptials. It would be a match made in hell at this point, what with Marcia stalking him one minute, screaming at him the next, and then sobbing "Please love me" afterwards. Has she never even dated another man? I never thought I'd say this, but I think Malicia was onto something halfway intelligent when she suggested to Marcia that they go on a manhunt together.

As for Lety -- it seems like she's finally taking those last steps towards adulthood. It's been a long time coming, that's for sure. All year long I've been thing how she's emotionally retarded, still hanging onto childhood with the stuffed animals, the Moty junk, the barrettes and hairbands that she should have left behind years ago. I was glad when she packed up all the dolls and bears and things at home.

>>>>I have a feeling the bolsas will end up in the arms of Fernando..

I believe Fern has them in the President office (that just sounds funny, i am visualizing like the Whitehouse)..I remember seeing him put them in a section of the credenza behind the desk.

Thanks for the credit K, cool to know my posts get read.

Ok, I have to come to the defense of "mi Aldo" :-)

Fernando did call Lety divine and show her picture off....but wasn't he drunk when he did it?

Whereas Aldo danced in public with Lety when he could have declined or picked a belleza to dance with---he danced on stage with her unashamed. He even wanted to kiss her right in front of everyone at the BBQ he threw for the bellezas. He's never been ashamed of her. I don't think he sees her as 'ugly'. He sees that everyone has their own kind of beauty. He's not so shallow to just look at the outside packaging. It doesn't matter to him.

I adore Aldo more and more. :-)

¡Muchísimas gracias, Barb! I'm with you. If I were single, I wouldn't mind having an Aldo around. Of course, he'd have to ease up on the Deep Thoughts, Life Lessons, Guru Talk, and what not. Just tell me you love me, nene, and then make me another chile relleno.

Yeah, Alex, I couldn't grab the remote fast enough to rewind to the jeans-and-no-shirt scene. Mama mia!!!

Was I the ONLY one yelling at FERN last night?? I mean he sat there thinking "Mi Lety" so sweetly-- when he JUST GOT BACK TOGETHER WITH MARCIA??? What is with that? WHY did he jump the gun and agree to try a relationship with her again--when he obviously is STILL in love with Lety-and NOW how is he going to ditch Marcia again?? I mean, I really think it is too cruel of him to string Marcia along--knowing how she still feels about him. Plus, now that will make it that much harder for him to convince Lety of his love for her again! Geez, I love Fern to death--but it seems to me that he STILL has a lot of "learning about realtionships" to do!!!

Alex--"nene?" That's an endangered Hawaii goose. What is it in Spanish? I pictured a goose immediately (not just any goose, the Nene).

Wasn't lety wearing BLACK stocking last night. I could have sworn I saw black ones.

Also, considering Lety and Fernie both have artistic streaks, I think they should run away to an art colony and we get nothing but scenes like when they were at Cuervnaca (sp?).

What do ya think?

Yes, Louise, Fer has dug himself into yet another hole. Sigh. That boy needs to learn everything the extra-hard way, apparently. I don't think he had a real relationship prior to Marcia, and the only person he's gotten advice from is Omar -- like Omar would know, he's all about avoiding serious relationships and putting more notches in his bedpost. But I digress. You were not alone, Louise, I was yelling "¡Imbécil!" at the tube.
Schoolmarm, "nene" means baby (nena is the feminine). I first heard it in the lyrics of a tango, although I also heard it used in a similar context in a Catalan pop song, but don't even get me started on that. Now that I think it, I've heard Saimon say it a few times, thrown in there with his English and Italian.

Re the comments about the tight camera shots in the board room I did notice once that they shot over the Snake's head and you could see a little bald spot. Cracked me up.

As for Fern and Marci's reconcilliation - she is fully aware of his feelings for Lety and should have told him to leave. Where on earth is that dignity she is always yapping about. He is/was obviously still trying to please the parents but I don't thing there was anything real about them staying in her place any more than there was once he fell in love with Lety.

Aldo is getting creepier by the moment as far as I'm concerned but I will admit that I am no fan of Juan Soler - never have been.

>>>Was I the ONLY one yelling at FERN last night?? I mean he sat there thinking "Mi Lety" so sweetly-- when he JUST GOT BACK TOGETHER WITH MARCIA???

...For the same reason that a lead in a novela will visit the ex he has broken up with to get over the love of his life's supposed deception...I agree that wasn't the smartest move but I can't help I want him to get back with Lety. Sorry Aldo fans, nothing against Juan Soler but I want Lety & Fern.

Alex, thanks! Makes sense now.

Anonymous 6:13 p.m. Yep, she was wearing black stockings instead of her customary white. I played that back to be sure, too.

Jeanne

Wow, I'm amazed that someone can actually not be a Juan Soler fan!! I guess that's good, that not everyone likes the same things, of course. But man, he is my favorite novela actor by far, he's oh so dreamy even with his beat up beak nose, chiclet teeth, and sexy Argentinian accent! I'll admit his character in this novela is a bit trying, but man, as a lead....delicious.

Oh and I've noticed before too, Ariel is definitely balding, poor thing. :(

I like Juan Soler better when he's the lead...Apuesta Por Un Amor he was the lead...and that novela wasn't so bad.

I had to add this...I just saw a commercial for guess what...a real Nuestra Belleza pageant...U think we'll see Carolina around? :)

I have been wondering about the tu, ud thing. In another telenovela I watched there were other characters that used ud form even after "being intimate" you would think you could use the tu form then??? Maybe someone from Mexico can explain it to us. Connie J

Wow! 71 comments when I finally checked! We might get frustrated but we are having fun!!!

Being on the Fern fan side, I loved his little boy grins when he finally saw Lety. They were like two little kids sneaking peeks at each other and smiling so no one could see.

Really good drawing from Fern of pretty Lety. I couldn't believe also how fast and professional Lety was at the new mural.

Too bad they didn't let Marcia leave. Hopefully she would have taken the banana, Mama T., and prissy Luigi with her.
