La Fea Más Bella #191 1/18/07 Home Sweet Home
Alicia goes into the meeting room to advise the execs that the Filmo Imagen lawyers (a.k.a. the Happy Hour Abogados or HHAs) have arrived. Fernando jumps and asks if Lety is with them, then stops himself and whistles [I guess to avert attention from his enthusiasm at the though of seeing Lety again]. Ariel says that Fern must be anxious to see Lety. Marcia defends Fern. Alicia, Miss Happy Hostess, offers everyone in the boardroom all kinds of snacks and Ariel snaps at her.
The cuartel watch the HHAs who are sitting in the executive lobby. They think the HHAs look familiar and remember that they are associates of Lety. They elect Sarah to try to get information about Lety from the HHAs. She sashays over and offers them a drink in her sexiest voice. They accept the drink but she doesn’t get any information about Lety. Alicia interrupts and tells them that the execs are ready to see them. Before going into the board room, HHA1 says that the tall one (Sarah) is juts his type. HHA2 says that one (Alicia) is just his type.
Robopop tells Julieta and Tomas that he went to speak with Humberto. At first they are impactados, then they assume he’s kidding and giggle. They ask what he talked to Humby about. He says they decided to face the situation created by their children and to clarify everything. Julieta tells him to spit out whole story. He says they also talked about life. He scolds Tomas for the trouble they caused and for deceiving him about the whole thing. Tomas defends himself saying they didn’t steal a thing. Julieta says it was all Fern’s fault. Robopop says that Fern already got his come-uppance; they took the presidency from him. Tomas says Robopop should not have gone to Conceptos like a dad going to see the school principal. Robopop says, regardless, he has resolved their problem.
The HHAs look apprehensive but finally sit down. They introduce themselves as lawyers for Filmo Imagen and Lety. Ariel immediately accuses them of coming to steal the company. HHA1 refers to is colleague HHA2 by his name, Jose Ambrosio Rosales de la Barquera (not sure what’s so funny, but this causes Omar the Imbecile, who is standing with Fern directly behind HHA1 to spit-laugh, spraying his saliva all over HHA1’s bald little head. Fern smacks Omar for being an imbecile and HHA2 wipes HHA1’s head with his hanky.
The HHAs say that Lety has no interest in keeping Conceptos. Ariel looks genuinely confused. They say they have no belligerent motives. Omar asks Fern what belligerent means. They agree to meet to transfer ownership of Conceptos the following day, so that Lety can be present for the meeting. A smile slowly creeps onto Fern’s face upon hearing of Lety’s return.
Lety and Caro arrive in Mexico City. Outside the airport, Lety stares at her seashell.
HHAs review Lety’s resignation letter and comment that it is terribly written. They think Lety should have contacted them sooner to write the letter on her behalf. They say they will come back tomorrow with Lety [geez, how many daily board meetings in a row are we up to now?]. Mama Bear doesn’t want to meet here at Conceptos. It sounds like she doesn't want Lety anywhere near the place. They agree to meet at the office of Mr. Santa Maria (Humby’s lawyer) instead and the HHAs leave. Humby asks the board if anybody still has doubts about Lety’s intentions.
The HHAs walk through through exec lobby. HHA2 flirts with Alicia and reminds her that she now has his card and should use it to call him. Alicia thinks she must really look poor if this dirt bag thinks he can score points with her.
Sarah flirts with HHA1 to get the scoop on what's happening but HHA1 says it’s a very sensitive subject and can not discuss it. Sarah says he can call her any time. The HHAs walk into the elevator and congratulate themselves for being quite the ladies’ men.
Lety and Caro arrive at Lety’s house. Lety thanks Caro again for rescuing her. Caro says Lety rescued herself. Lety says it’s now time to put to test everything she has learned. Caro says if she uses her inner strength, she can move the entire universe. Caro leaves and Lety stares at her seashell again and it reminds her of Aldo.
Santa Maria and the other Conceptos lawyers review Filmo Imagen’s paperwork and remark that Lety and Co. did great job managing FI. They think it’s a shame to close FI. Humby says it’s necessary in order to start paying Conceptos’ debts. His lawyers say selling FI won’t be enough to cover the debts. Humby says it’s a start.
The neighborhood bullies tease Lety. They ask her if she won the contest. Lety remembers wearing the Miss Puebla costume and the bellezas telling her how beautiful she looked. She asks “What if I told you I won?” They laugh. She tells Roman he looks relaxed. He’s dumbfounded but agrees. She tells them she can’t hate them even though they are major a-holes because she grew up with them. She gives them all a kiss on the cheek, causing more confusion. She giggles and goes to ring her doorbell.
Julieta and Tomas run to open the door. They hug and kiss Lety. Robopop sits at the table looking livid. He immediately tells her that he is aware of the scandal she has provoked. He lectures Lety about morals. Lety says she is not a delinquent and she didn’t steal a single peso. Robopop is even more ticked off that they conspired behind his back. The phone rings and Tomas says it’s their lawyer. Robopop and Lety continue to argue. Lety reminds him that she is an adult. Mom whispers that she should listen to him, because he went to Conceptos and spoke to the Mendiolas. Lety is afraid that the Mendiolas treated her papa like crap, but Robopop says he had a civilized conversation with Humby. He reiterates that they thought Lety planned to steal their company.
Humby tells the board he won’t let any part of Conceptos be sold. He will sell his properties, autos, etc. and tells the rest to do the same. He says he was crazy to give Fern the presidency, but now he will do whatever it takes to save Conceptos.
Tomas hangs up the phone and tells Lety she has an appointment with the Mendiolas’ lawyer tomorrow. Lety refuses to go to Conceptos. Tomas clarifies that the meeting is at the lawyer’s office. Robopop asks Lety why she did all of this? Lety says she did it for Fern. Mom strokes Lety’s hair in sympathy.
Ariel says he won’t sell his assets to save Conceptos, since it wasn’t his fault. Humby cuts him off. The lawyers recommend that they review everyone’s assets to see if it will even cover the debts. Ariel says all he has left is his apartment and his salary. The lawyers suggest they start by reviewing the value of his apartment. This makes Fern smile.
Lety admits to Pop that she is at fault for agreeing to go along with Fern’s Filmo Imagen plan. Explains that they had a falling out and she decided to tell everyone the truth and resign at the big board meeting. Pop points out that in doing all of this, she has tarnished their honor and then had the nerve to go on a pleasant vacation [Robopop must have been reading our blog's comment page!]. Lety points out that they were super-mean to her and she was in a hell. She didn’t go on vacation, she was recuperating and evaluating what happened in order to learn from it. At this point, all she cares about is that he forgive her. Now she is here to show her face just like he taught her. She will start a new life tomorrow. Robopop forgives her. Hugs all around!
In Acapulco, Aldo types away on his laptop. He speaks aloud as he types, and has a Freudian slip, saying “sabor de Leticia” by accident. He chuckles at this.
The lawyers tally everyone’s capital. Mom doesn’t want to hear the total. She whines that she is used to her bling-bling and it’s not fair to have to start her savings all over again. The lawyers say that if Lety gives back the company, the banks will come after Conceptos again. Mom asks then what’s the use? The lawyers point out that this is why created FI in the first place. they suggest that they keep Conceptos lienned to FI. Mom and Marcia are furious at the idea and get up to leave. Humby yells at them to sit down! He demands that they listen to lawyer first before making decision.
In her room, Lety takes down her wallpaper. She tells Tomas that she learned lots about herself. He says she seems very different now; mas valiente (braver). Lety attributes her change to Caro and Aldo. Tomas asks who Aldo is and she explains that he is someone incredible.
Aldo is on the phone telling someone he needs to open the restaurant ASAP. He calls Caro and asks for Lety’s info so he can call her. He tells her everything that reminds him of Lety. He wishes she was there with him. He can't wait to open the restaurant just so that Caro and Lety can come back for the grand opening. Caro tells him he is a lost cause. He asks her to send him the picture she took of him and Lety.
Lety tells Tomas about Aldo. Tomas tells her that he and Julieta tried their best to keep the Conceptos mess hidden from Robopop, but they could not avoid it when Fern showed up at the house. Lety sighs that at least he does not know everything. He winces as he tells her that Robopop doesn’t know, but Mom does. Lety is super-impactada! She says she will die if that's true. Tomas insists it wasn’t him who told her. Lety remembers the diary she left behind. Surely Mom read her diary!

The HHA twins are hysterical and I like your nickname! I found myself reading through and adding an "a" saying it as HaHAs!! As in HA! HA! It kills me how they are of the same short, portly, stature and wearing nearly the same color suit. If they both were bald, or both had hair, they would be almost identicals. I want to scream at that one though, run away....when he is "seducing" Alicia!! Though, I could see them together. Sara too.
Does anyone know the actor's name who plays Román? He looks so familiar. Has he been on anything else?

Were these lawyers a comedy team in a former life? Are they famous for this shtick? They should be. I liked the comparison of Sara with Alicia: that the latter is "mas formadita." She is, in fact, going to 'bust' out of her clothes any day now if she doesn't knock off the tamales. They probably spent a fortune on those Iron Maiden corsets and don't want to make bigger ones.

I am just wondering, if the meeting is tomorrow, then how long will we have to wait? I mean, it literally took weeks for the big junta when it was only a day away in La-Fea-land. Hoping here it is mas temprano que tarde.
I am so anxious to see Fer's reaction when he sees Lety again. If just the mention of her coming home makes him smile so pretty, what will it be like when he really sees her. Then there are the subtle improvements Lety has had to her looks---the tan and the hopeful continuation of the improved wardrobe. Although she hasn't had a complete make-over, she has definitely changed while away in Acapulco--and not just in looks, but in attitude.

I think Lety was painting her wall, painting over all those flowers she painted on while mooning over Fernando. She is wiping the slate clean for a new beginning.

The meeting was most amusing, especially the contrast between the two sets of lawyers. The suave, well-dressed Conceptos team and Filmo Imagen's ambulance chasers. Lots of social commentary here and in the meeting of the two papas. I liked the way Lety handled Roman and the neighborhood gang. I guess Papi Erasmo was so focused on Lety's big business fiasco that he let her slide on the more revealing clothing.

I thought of Melinama when I saw the HaHa's. What's funny is that I got the distinct impression that they really are excellent lawyers, and perhaps were once very accomplished, but have since chosen a more, shall we say, relaxed approach to their work.
Anonymous - I checked on IMDB a few weeks ago when you asked about Roman before, and he wasn't listed there. But I would bet that he's done a ton of guesting on other shows, at least, or was perhaps a regular on one of the kiddie novelas. He's a good-looking kid and seems like a decent actor.

The contrast between the sets of lawyers was hilarious but the Conceptos threesome didn't look down their noses at the HaHa's so obviously they are more competant then they look.
I had to laugh when Humb told everyone they had to sell their houses and cars. Mama T and Marcia looked like they were ready to fly out of the room on their broomsticks while Ariel sat hissing at the foot of the table which he probably thinks is the head.

Actually, they DID tell Omar he had to sell, too. It's just nobody really cares about Omar so it didn't get much air time.
Lordy lordy, that look on Lety's face when Tomas told her her mother knew EVERYTHING and she figured out that mama had read her diary. Should be a very uncomfortable scene between the two of them fairly soon.
The HHA's were too much ogling all the girls from Sara and Oxi to Marcia who couldn't lean over far enough to get awy. Priceless!

Terrific recap, Alma, thanks! The editorial comments were fabulous and the new label for the HHAs is perfect.
I spent the hour hooting with laughter. It's such an improvement over the dark days of the past few weeks. Hooray for Lety, facing down the thugs! That amulet is doing the job, along with all the therapy. Gotta give Aldo and Caro lots of credit there. She also handled Robopop as well as anyone could expect, and with DIGNITY!

The HHAs are great at Conceptos, thought they were kind of boring in the very beginning with all the tequilla drinking. I think of them as tweedle-dee and tweedle-dumb!
Can't wait to see what Fern's first move is! Every time Lety's name was mentioned in the meeting, he got a big smile on his face. You know he wants to run right over there. Will he wait until the meeting? Will he try to phone or stop by her house? Unfortunately, he got on the bad side of her parents. If he's smart, he'll tip off the cuartel and tell them they should have a girl's night out...then he can corner Lety away from home.
Ok, maybe I'm thinking too much about it! I liked Lety’s first test of her new inner strength, Roman and gang. She handled them great and they were surprised at the kisses but not grossed out. Maybe they are starting to mature as well…here’s hoping.
Can't wait to see what Fern's first move is! Every time Lety's name was mentioned in the meeting, he got a big smile on his face. You know he wants to run right over there. Will he wait until the meeting? Will he try to phone or stop by her house? Unfortunately, he got on the bad side of her parents. If he's smart, he'll tip off the cuartel and tell them they should have a girl's night out...then he can corner Lety away from home.

I think that the meeting is strictly between Lety and the two sets of lawyers so poor Fern is going have to wait some more before he sees Lety unless he is dumb enough to drive over and hang around outside her house. Just one more device to drive us all insane.
For a minute there I thought that Aldo might be planning to open a restaurant in Mexico City. I understand that at some point in time he is there. In any event maybe his grand opening will provide us with those scenes of Lety and Fern on the beach in Acapulco. Who knows? I'm probably overthinking the whole plot.

Great re-cap. I just looked it up and according to a spanish dictionary: barquera(feminine noun) means boatwoman. That is probably why Omar was laughing and I am not sure if you noticed but Fern was also laughing (course it could have been because Omar spit-laughed)...you saw it despite the fact that he was looking down and keeping his mouth covered. I started cracking up (mostly because Fern wanted to look like he wasn't laughing)
Earlier there was a rumor for which there was no evidence and they both denied it and were seeing other people. The more recent "story" from about a month ago was a Day of the Innocents joke. (Day of the Innocents is explained here but I'm not sure how it mutated into a day of pranks.)

I am sooo glad someone is making headway to clear this Conceptos/FI mess up even if it is Robocop. I think Robocop just sees Lety and Fernando as kids who need a good talking to and to be reminded that their actions hurt many other people whether they meant it to or not.

Jamie actually looked a little stunned when the head-wiping incident happened. I bet that wasn't planned. Jamie kept his face covered with his hand a long time. Omar was chuckling a little bit too.

I was thinking that it is a good thing both Erasmo and Humb have no idea of what went down between Fern and Lety. If they knew I'd bet Humb would take a horsewhip to Fern and Robopop would show up at Conceptos with Lety on one hand and a shotgun in the other. I'm sure the only thing Julieta and Helmet Head would agree on at this point is to keep the truth from the viejos.

Humb and Robopop don't have any idea what happpened between the kidlets YET. It's a matter of time. That should make for a good scene....or two.

I laughed during the head wiping incident because I enjoyed seeing Omar and Fernando trying to control their laughter. I don't think it was scripted. The HHA's are funny and they remind me of some of my relatives who are Lillputian in size (Gulliver's Travel).
On the whole, I thought last night's show was rather boring. It's time for Lety and Fernando to meet again. Although I think there will be more boring board meetings before that happens.

Carrie, yes, it's true. Poor Angelica was sick AGAIN! I just read that earlier this week. She took off time from the tapings to recuperate from chronic fatique syndrome but she apparently returned today. An article from today mentions she has typhoid too, but also that there are some rumors that she was negotiating her contract again and for that reason she wouldn't show up. Who knows. There's always some controversy with celebrities, eh? Here is a link to the article from today.

God I would so hate it if she was using illness as a ploy for money. I would image that all the filming in salt water and sand while she had that arm injurywould could cause problems so I'll wait and see. In any event it would seem she has them over a barrel since it would be impossible to bring in another actress. Galans have tried this trick in the past and a secondary male became the star and went off with the leading lady but because of the way this story is structured they won't be able to can her. If it's true guy's pay her the money and end the dragging out of the story.

I think those two lawyers are a comedy act or comic actors. I've got a vague memory of flipping through one of those goofy comedy shows and seeing one or both of them.

Had the best laugh in a long time with the HHA head wiping scene. It was played so naturally by the HHAs. And Jamie's laughing couldn't have been scripted - I swear I saw his shoulders shaking with laughter at one point. When he looked off camera with that big grin on his face, I thought he might have been looking at someone in the crew.

On another note: I wonder if Fernie will ever find out that Marcia lied - that Lety didn't willingly hand over the bag of trinkets and Carvallmarks. Marcia told Fern this lie so he would consider it another betrayal on Lety's part.

Kris et al., if you want a Spanish to English translation that will be odd, but get you by with understanding, you can go to google.com and type in "google spanish to english translation" and then in the translation box be sure to click "Spanish to English" and you can insert virtually anything, any length (I just translated Kris's esmas.com website). It will give you a slightly weird translation but one you can understand.
