Duelo de Pasiones - Wed March 14 - Maldita Faja! Damn Girdle!

Intro by Sylvia: Emilio says, "So, Don Alvaro, we meet again." He says he is there for the same reason as Don Loco, to find Alina and Soledad. Don Loco demands, "Why are you involving yourself with my family?" "Your family?" snaps Emilio, "I thought Alina wasn't your daughter!" (Points to Emilio for that one.) "OK, she's not," admits Loco, but I still want you to stay out of my business." "How are you going to stop me?" challenges Emilio, "are you going to shoot me again?"Don Loco doesn't look impactado, but he does look royally PO'd.

Wednesdays episode by Lynn: Sylvia was right. Don Loc was pissed. He warns Emilio to keep his distance from Alina and his wife. Emilio warns Loco that he is not the law, the real law reaches far and wide. Loco is undeterred. He spouts off a few more warnings ending with “You will regret this!” with a final “Don’t follow us!” tagged at the end. Emilio promptly ignores Alvaro’s words and takes off talking to himself that he is going to save Alina.

Everyone is crying at Ruitilios funeral. Braulio, with his arm around Rosita, talks to himself how the jerk who did this will pay….. Ingenio arrives late to the funeral claiming he has just heard the news. Rosita goes off into her mind with memories that make her certain that it was Max who raped her. (Personally I don’t think he did it. I think Max’s size is our clue that he didn’t do it. He is a lot heavier than the guy we saw attacking her.)

Donky barks. Emilio shows the dog the animal hide and asks Tonqui/Donkey/little blood hound doggie to follow the sent.

Pancho and Tula are alone together in their hut. Tula asks what he plans on doing with the women after they get the lana ( money). Pancho tells her to mind her own business. Tula tries another conversation route. She wants to know why he treats her so bad. Pancho answers her by whacking her face with a backhanded slap and by throwing her onto the bed with her hair. Tula sits stunned with blood rolling down her face. She eyes a rifle in a corner. She grabs it, cocks it and points it at a well deserving Pancho. He taunts “Are you going to kill me idiot? You don’t have the courage to do that. Come here!” Tula fires the gun. Pancho falls to the dirt floor dead. Tula starts to mentally crumble, crying hard.

Don Loco, Sergio, and the other bad guy follow the sound of the gunshot.

Tula goes into the shack where Alina and Soledad are tied up. She is brandishing a knife as she cries. Soledad screams “Don’t hurt us! Don’t hurt us!” Tula cuts the ropes off their wrists and feet. She shows them a door and tells them to escape.

The good doctor Vasquez and Nurse Suzy talk over Angels sleeping body. The good doctor has given Angel some antibiotics and he is doing better. The good doctor turns his attention to Nurse Suzy. He has noticed that Suzy has feelings for Angel. She pretends she doesn’t like him like that.

Tula meets Don Loco plus others outside and tells them that the women have escaped. Loco goes into the shack where the women were and starts throwing things around, cursing. He comes out of the shack mad that Soledad has gotten away. He chokes and then he punches the remaining bad guy blaming him for Soledad’s escape. The guy pleads for pity but Loco has none to share. Sergio wants to know if he should shoot the guy but Alvaro tells him not to bother. They ride off leaving the bad guy lying on the ground.

Tonqui/Donkey/sweet littel doggie runs off as Emilio sees the shack and dismounts to enter. Emilio first goes to the bad guy who is lying on the ground and helps him up.

Alina and Soledad run behind the shacks and hide in some weeds that don’t even cover them. Tonqui/Donkey/tired of running doggie sits down next to them as they crouch hiding from Loco and Sergio. (Man Soledads highlights look great. Adela is one heck of a colorist.) Loco and Sergio ride up near to where the women are. They see nothing and decide to head for town instead. After they leave Alina and Soledad get up and take off running.

Emilio asks Tula where are the girls. Tula is a mess, crying and in shock. She tells Emilio that she shot Pancho. The other bad guy wants the police to come and arrest Tula for murder. Emilio tells him to forget it, its obvious she has been beaten and did it in self defense. He tells Tula to remember to tell the cops she acted in self defense when they come. Emilio gets up to leave as the remaining bad guy looks evilly at Tula. Emilio gets back on his horse, talking to himself that Alina doesn’t want to have anything to do with him.

Thelma has Vera tighten her girdle (faja). She curses her pregnancy as Vera struggles with pulling the girdle tight enough for Thelma’s liking. Thelma doesn't want her pregnancy to show.

The Sing Aunt has gone out into the forest to find Gaspar chopping wood. She tells him that Thelma was sick and she lost their child. He needs to forget Thelma. Little does she know but Luba is listening in on their conversation from behind some bushes. Gaspar meanwhile is devastated to hear what Singing Aunt has to say. After she leaves he kicks the wood upset that Thelma lost his child. Luba comes out of her hiding space to comfort him. She tells him its best that she lost the child. He can have kids with Nora…..

Alina and Soledad exit the forest to see a church. Marianna arrives in Veracruz.
Marina (the cousin of Marianna?) receives a note that has arrived at their apartment for Marianna. She wonders to herself who could have sent it? She opens the note and sees that it is from Jose. “After all this time! When Marianna is preparing for her wedding!” she complains to herself. The cousin rips up the letter. The freaky doctor with the bow tie comes into the room with Marianita on his shoulders. Marianita wants to know who sent the letter. The cousin tells them it was just an advertisement, nothing more, as she throws the note in the trash.

Rosita talks to herself looking very Frieda Khalo like. She knows who raped her. It was Max! Braulio comes into the room and tries to comfort her. He wants to send for Santos. He knows Santos still loves her. Rosita doesn’t want to see Santos ever again. She doesn’t want anyone to know what happened!

Patricia, the town slut, hits on Santos. She forces him to kiss her. He breaks the kiss telling her he doesn’t want to date anyone right now. She throws a fit and tells him to stop thinking about that girl. Santos thinks to himself “if only it was that easy.”

Thelma, Singing Aunt and Orlando talk about were Emilio could be. Emilio enters the room as they stand to celebrate his return. Emilio ignores Thelma’s false concern. In retaliation Thelma snaps that while Emilio has been out hunting that girl his brother has been here dying! Emilio is impactado.

The good doctor tells Emilio he is going into town to get more medicine. (Doesn’t he have the right stuff for Angel yet!) He tells Emilio that Angel is better but he has to be more careful about temperature changes from now on. Emilio talks to the sleeping Angel after the doctor leaves. He calls Angel stubborn for staying out in the cold. Angel, in turn, calls out Alina’s name.

Marianna goes to visit Hugo. Alfonsia stays in the background pretending to clean as she listens to their conversation. Marianna explains to Hugo that she wants to invite her family to her wedding. She wants them all to be there, plus she misses Soledad and Alina. Hugo tries to stall but ends up agreeing to take her to Sierra Escondida tomorrow. Alfonsia has a flash back about what she did with the letter. The idea of her past misdeeds coming to light fills her with dread. The Patron will kill her if her finds out! She runs to Hugo after Marinanna leaves pleading that they cant let Marinanna go to Sierra Escondida. Hugo decides to send a telegram advising Loco of the situation first.

The priest asks Alina and Soledad what are they doing at his church?

Emilio confronts Orlando. He wants to know why Orlando didn’t return for him.

The priest offers Alina and Soledad his church as a refuge. He believes in their innocence and understand their need to hide from Loco.

Orlando pretends that he never heard Emilio’s gun shots for help. Emilio doesn’t know what to think and questions Orlando again. Orlando, insulted, claims he is telling the truth. Emilio tells Orlando he doesn’t know what to think, so he tells Orlando he needs to be alone. Orlando thinks to himself that Emilio is lucky. He should have died!

Gaspar whines to Luba how he wanted to have a child. Luba pets his hair telling him that is for the better this way. Gaspar denies this saying “It isn’t better that my munequita lost my child.” Wha!

The Singing Aunt fills Thelma in on how she tricked Gaspar with the story of her loosing the pregnancy. Thelma is happy to hear the news but quickly changes the subject to how uncomfortable she is wearing the girdle. Its too tight! The aunt tells her that she doesn’t even look pregnant. She should just wear the girdle when she is out and take it off at home so she can be more comfortable. They switch the conversation back to Gaspar as Thelma grimaces in discomfort. Thelma has to convince Emilio to leave so they dont have to see Gaspar ever again.

The priest shows Alina and Soledad a small room for them to stay in. He tells them that he realizes this is not a lot but he is doing what he can. He is looking for someone to help them get out of town. Unfortunately everyone is afraid of Alvaro.

Emilio looks at the heart necklace he gave Alina long ago. He is in his nighties ready for bed when Thelma comes in. She pretends to be interested in what he was doing on his search for Alina. He distrusts her. She changes the subject and starts her campaign of lets move to Puebla. She tells him that he “could leave his work to Orlando and there are better doctors for Angel.” Emilio thinks Dr. Vasquez is good enough but he will think it over. She leaves Emilio alone and his thoughts start to drift to Alina. He thinks to himself how everyone needs him, Alina, his child, Angel, Thelma, blah blah blah, but all he can do is think about Alina. Everything would have been different had they married. Woes me.

Gaspar whines to Nora that his munequita lost his child. Nora tells him not to worry. They can have lots of kids together. She grabs his hand and leads him away. He giggles as he follows her.

Alina and Soledad talk over who could help them. Elias is mentioned but Soledad thinks he will still be in mourning for Blanca. Alina wonders if her father had something to do with Blanca’s death.

Loco goes into Soledad’s dark empty bedroom. He sees her with Jose in his mind. He gets upset and points his handgun at the lovers. Then he realizes it is just an empty bed. He wonders to himself if he is going crazy. He shouts “Soledad why cant I stop loving you! I’m going to find you because you are mine. You belong to me!”

Thelma and Orlando discuss plans. Orlando likes Thelma’s idea of getting Emilio to leave. He could be in charge of the work project and then he could win over Alina! Orlando believes he can save Alina from Loco. Thelma laughs at him as they chat together and then she calls him an idiot after he leaves. She picks up his half empty glass of whiskey and downs what is left.

Emilio has a dream about marrying Alina. He dreams they are in the clouds all dressed in white. He kisses her with a large open mouth. Their tongues touch. They are two large open mouth bass. He wakes from his dream and sits up in bed to call out Alina!

Alina, in her bed at the church, dreams of Emilio.

Orlando goes to the Meson to chat with Coral. They sit at a table to talk. Orlando wants to know if she knows anything about Alina. Coral wants to know about Emilio. Neither has the information the other wants. Coral eyes Orlando suspiciously.

Marianna tells her cousin by phone that she is ready to tell Loco she has a child with Jose the crew chief.

Soledad and Alina pray to the Virgencita for help.

The priest scours the countryside looking for someone to help the women. Everyone he asks declines.

Thelma complains to the Singing Aunt some more about her tight girdle and her pregnancy as they walk outside. She is a natural earth mother that one. Thelma tells her aunt how she is going to convince Emilio to leave for Puebla. The aunt inquires how Angel is doing to which Thelma quips that Angel is better but he "has more lives than a cat." She goes on the say that "He would be better off dead." Gaspar pops out of one of the rows of plants spooking the women.

Emilio talks with Angel, who is pasty white from his near brush with death. Angel wants Emilio to continue looking for Alina. Emilio intends to do just that.

The Singing Aunt tells Gaspar to just "look at Thelma. She doesn’t even have a tummy. She is not pregnant! Just look at her!" Gaspar thinks they might be deceiving him. Thelma denies this and questions Gaspar why he is looking for her. Does he want to hurt her? Gaspar tells her he doesnt want to hurt her but he is sad. He slowly disappears into the bushes saying over and over that he is sad. Thelma calls him an idiot.

Some new guy tells Alvaro that Ruitilio is dead. Alvaro doesn’t much care. He tells the new man to rule over the workers with a hard hand. Adela comes in as the new guy is leaving. She is bearing a telegram for Loco. She asks him if it is bad news? He reads it out loud. Adela gets excited to hear that Marinna plans to come to Sierra Escondida. Adela excuses herself to prepare Mariannas room. Loco tells himself that Marianna can't come, he doesn't want her to find out about anything ….

Rosita is in a field talking to a worker asking if anyone has heard of Alina. No one has. Max rides up and heckles Rosita. “Rosita! How great that you didnt go to town! Hey Hey Hey!” Rosita screams that he is the most despicable of men!

Thelma gets some more help in fixing her girdle before she gets in bed to fake being ill for a visitor. The visitor is Luba. Luba enters the room staring at the two women. She wants to know if it is true that Thelma lost the child. Thelma pretends that she has been very sick, suffering and has lost the child. Luba appears to be buying the news. She admits that Gaspar is not right in the head. She will make sure Gaspar does not bother Thelma anymore. Thelma is encouraged to hear Lubas words. She takes the opportunity to ask for more help. She wants Luba to make sure that Gaspar doesn’t say anything to Emilio; so Emilio doesn’t learn about Gaspars fantasies about the child. Thelma gives some coughs like Angel just to show how ill she is. Luba agrees to help keep things quiet. She leaves but not before she stares at Thelma and the Singing Aunt real hard.

Max is shocked that Rosita has yelled at him. He asks why she is talking to him like that. He sounds hurt and confused. Rosita is screaming some things about how Max will pay for what he did when she gets interrupted by the arrival of Ingenio. Ingenio has come to tell Max about a broken machine. They ride off to check it out.

Sergio grabs a bite to eat at Santos mothers snack shack. He shares a little gossip which leads to Santos asking how Rosita is doing. Sergio tells Santos that he will tell him what he knows for a few pesos.

Emilio rides over to Loco Montellanos place. He wants to know if Alina is there. The men share the same old words of stay out of my business, you will regret this, blah blah blah.

The priest tells Alina and Soledad that no one will come to their aide. The women brainstorm on who they can ask for help. Hmm I wonder? Soledad asks “Do you think Elias would help?” Alina asks “Do you think Emilio would help?”

Emilio rides over to Lubas cave asking if she knows how Alina is doing and where she is. Luba tells him she does not know. Emilio accuses her of lying which sets Luba off. She insists she never lies. She feels bad for snapping and decides to make nice. She stops Emilio from leaving saying she "hurts a lot for what has happened to his wife." Emilio stops mid track to ask “What happened?” Luba explains “She looks like she is suffering a lot.... For the child (criatura) she lost.” Emilio is impactado.

Faja - girdle
Terco - stubborn
Rastro - trail, trace
Criatura - creature, child
Muerto de hambre - starving

Comments:
I laughed out loud reading the "Open mouthed bass" comment. I had to read to to my spouse this morning who laughed as well and he doesn't even watch the show!

With all the really evil doings going on at least we've finally had some comic relief. Nora telling Gaspar she can help him get a baby was hilarious as was Luba scaring the singing aunt with her scary look! Those two actresses really add a lot to this novela, especially Ana Martin.

On Rosita--I think it was interesting that at the funeral she had an orange flashback only they didn't show us what it was! I think this is going to be one of those recovered memory things where she is going to remember later. They are making us think it's Don Max because he came in that night all messed up from "the barbed wire fence." If it is someone we already know, I can't imagine it could be anyone other than Castulo but killing Rutilio seems out of character for him. Finally a bit of mystery rather than the same old predictable stuff.

Also, thank heaven Tula offed Pancho. I couldn't take much more of those beating scenes.

Don Loco was trained in tracking by whatever military couldn't find Jose before. As long as there is one blade of grass to hide behind, nobody will find you.
Margaret, interesting theory about Castulo. I agree that killing Rutilio seems strange, what also is strange about that is that he is getting plenty of action from 'tan fina' Thelma, does he really need to get crazy and start raping people? I don't think so, myself. I also don't think it is Max, too obvious. Maybe Sergio, in a fit of frustration since Nora won't put out for him. He's slimy, maybe he did it.

Ah it could have been Sergio! Thanks Ferro! He was out supposedly looking for Soledad and Alina. Besides, it doesn't make sense that a guy would kill and rape people from his own hacienda unless he was a psycho and they haven't painted Castulo as that.

Oh Darn, I didn't watch last night's episode yet, and your recap is so fantastic that I can't wait to see the mayhem!

I'm in the Sergio camp. He seems to have zero scruples/ethics/morals. Plus he is sexually frustrated because Nora keeps rejecting him. Not that rape has anything to do with sex. More to the point, he is angry and seems to have no respect for other human beings. Castulo is strong and he is a sex machine, but he's demonstrated that he has some sense of ethics (of course those ethics don't extend to not boinking the patron's wife).

Tula shot Pancho...good for her!

Great recap Lynn! I'm looking forward to watching the episode tonight. More later...

P.S. I love your title!

Ferro - I can't believe you said that a man who is "getting plenty of action" wouldn't rape a woman. Or that Sergio, who's "not getting any" would rape - wow, if that's the reason for rapes, there must be a million rapes a day in the US.
Do you also believe that it's the woman's fault if she's raped, or beaten?

Tell me you were making a sick, not at all funny joke.

Wow, Disappointed, get a grip. We're talking about a TV show and what motivates characters on a TV SHOW. On TV, rapists and violent men do things for extremely stupid reasons. So let me get this straight - we have seen a man beat his wife, disown and imprison his daughter (more than once), seen other men beat and rape women, seen men impregnate women indiscriminately, people trick each other on their deathbeds to get married, make endless horrible comments about someone with brain damage, plan and attempt murders of people who are causing them minor inconveniences, lie to relatives about someone being terminally ill, the list goes on, and you are going to finally get worked up about THIS? Please get back on your high horse and ride back out of here. WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A TV SHOW.

I keep thinking of more I want to say to you, Disappointed, for making such assumptions about me. But since you decided to remain anonymous, I decided that you don't care enough to put yourself out there behind your opinion, you would rather snipe from behind a blank wall. I do want to clarify one more thing for anyone else reading - I did not say, as you "quoted" me in your comment, that a man who is getting plenty of action would not rape a woman. You are taking my comment about ONE FICTIONAL CHARACTER and applying that to millions of people. That's quite a stretch. Ok, please someone, say something funny to get this bad taste out of my mouth.

And thank you for being completely sexist and singling me out and ignoring the two WOMEN who thought my theory had some merit, you know, my theory about CHARACTERS IN A TV SHOW. Wow you have really pissed me off. I hope that's what you wanted.

Wow, Ferro, get a grip! Sorry, must have touched a nerve. I'm sure you're a very nice guy.
Re: the others "posters" - one at least admitted that rape had nothing to do with sex, the other likened it to going "psycho". You didn't bother with even a weak disclaimer.
When you've finished attacking me, calling me names, telling me where to go, think about this: how do you know I wasn't "mocking" your remarks? Are you the only person whose words aren't "real"?
¡Híjole!

Have a nice day! :)

OH MY GOODNESS! THIS IS OUR VERY FIRST FLAME WAR!

Our blog is known for kindly, friendly, civilized discourse. Let's try to calm down and keep it that way. Can we please just end this right now, OK? Let's everybody let the other guy have the last word and then this be over. Am I being too wussy?

That's not wussy. Wussy is not being willing to put your name on your inflammatory comments. Yes, let's move on. Sorry to derail the comments, but I have to defend myself. Disappointed, I wouldn't think your comment was a mock, because here we mock the SHOWS, not each other.

Thank you, Melinama.

Cheers!

Wow, I was so excited to see 12 comments for this epi and then so disspointed it was a flame type thing.

My comment about Castulo not being a psycho related more to, would he kill and rape people who knew him pretty well and recognized him? Only if he weren't rational about it. And the character they have presented us with is highly rational and very interested in his self-preservation.

One of the things that I find most disturbing about this novela is that there is a real variety of abuse of women on the show. Don Loco is a classic paranoid, possessive type. If he lived in my city, given his class, he'd probably be diagnosed with mental illness and medicated. In SE the symptoms are masked by the backward culture and general low treatment of women. Soledad and Alina are "his women" and he can do whatever he wants with them. Pancho can practically beat Tula to death because she's a woman (and an indian at that--don't know if that was intentional casting on the part of the director). Rosita has already told us that women who are raped are blamed for what happened to them and treated like the town sluts. That pretty much tells us what we need to know. I am thinking this is more like Saudi Arabia without the veils. A man can kill, beat or lock up his wife for infidelity. He can beat her for anything. A woman who has been raped or has had sex out of marraige is better off dead than shaming her family...

Whatever the motivation, desire for power, desire for sex, revenge, etc. There is just a whole lot of beating and raping going on in this town so that it obviously has a general level of acceptibility. That road can't come fast enough.

Thanks, Lynn for another excellent recap. Before I forget, I have to tell you about the 2 comments that gave me the giggles :1] ''Alina and Soledad brainstorm''...yes,those two represent a regular think tank , don't they??? I think they might have trouble brainstorming themselves out of a wet paperbag. 2] ''Maldita faja!''-- a great title! That scene of Tia struggling to tighten Thelma's girdle made me think of the scene in ''Gone With the Wind'' where Scarlet is hanging onto the bedpost exhorting Mammy to pull harder on her corset strings because Scarlet just had a baby and no longer had 19-inchwaist! No wonder Thelma hasn't looked pregnant!! And anyone who's been pregnant [***you have to trust me on this, Ferro] knows that wearing a girdle is not an option...sometimes just wearing shoes is a problem....or finding a pair of slacks that you can squeeze into. Thelma is a witch. Not only does she squish her belly into a girdle...she finishes Orlando's drink. Remember how Jos in ''Mundo'' was drinking during her pregnancy and her baby had a birth defect? Well, I think that is what is going to happen to Thelma's baby, or else she is really going to miscarry. If Emiliooo and Florina are supposed to eventually get together, how are the writers going to get Thelma out of the way??? Maybe they'll have her die in childbirth because she keeps complaining to E. that she wants to leave S.E. to get better medical care in Pueblo. I also appreciated you comparing that kiss to 2 open mouth bass kissing. Excellent analogy. Emiliooo has got to be one of the worst kissers . And may I take this opportunity to give a shout out to Fernando [gone but never forgotten] for his excellent kissing skills...I'm just saying. And, one last observation. I think I startled Hub last night as he was walking through the room minding his own business and I yelled , ''Shoot him, Tula! Shoot him.'' ...Then , I clapped. Hub continued on his trip to the kitchen, but I noticed that he looked over his shoulder at me at least twice. ~~~Susanlynn, glad to not be wearing a malditafaja

Hey Ferro, I've tried to write this to you twice but I was in such a snit I had to walk around the block to cool off.

I think you do a better job than most of us ("us" being practically all women) of being very PC in your recaps and comments. I have always appreciated that and I thank you for it now. I didn't find your comments offensive, this is a telenovela after all.

In general, I think we as a team are sensitive (and justifiably over-sensitive sometimes) of the misogynist tone and story lines that these telenovelas can take. I think we point these things out (God knows you do all the time) and try to work around them. Some of us (shout out to Lynn and others) use this format as a way to educate without being heavy-handed. That being said, I don't intend to walk on eggshells with my recapping or commenting and I hope you don't either. Even though Disappointed's comment was directed at you I also felt the barb because we are a team. Although I can't, in theory, disagree with their point, I wasn't happy with the way the message was delivered.

OK, I feel better now having gotten that off my chest. I feel very lucky to be on the same recapping team as you.

About the Sergio theory: I discounted him at first because he was searching for Alina at the time Rosita was attacked. However, Sergio has shown himself to be violent (he even shot Alina), so maybe it was him.

(My mother said Sergio was wearing a different color hat than the rapist, but I don't recall the hats so I don't know if she's right.)

Gosh Ive been hard at work all day and had no idea so much was going on! I would love to say some clever things but as usual :) I think the Princess of Peace said it well. But with that said I will attempt to write a little on the flaming situation.

This novela is jammed packed full of horrible stuff. When I watch it and take whats going on literally I get upset. Luckliy Ive had Ferro and Sylvia and all you others to help me see this is a TELENOVELA. And a whacked out crazy one at that. Once I pulled back from the literal stand point I was able to watch, read and recap with humor.

I think Univision should have put a warning before each and every episode, by the actors themselves, that this is not how to treat another person. Period. I htink they have done us a disservice by airing this show with out advising others who dont have our group, or our education, or our country etc., to help teach us these behaviours are wrong.

Ferro had been one of the best out of our group at seeing the humor and bring that to light over the vulgaities in this show. His comments were like he said "about this show". He wasn't discussing a real person, or giving a pychological analysis, or even commenting on the real motives for real life rape.

See we talk about these shows here as we learn better Spanish. Its not fair to come in here commenting on someones character when you dont know who or what you are talking about. Please read more than one comment before jumping to a conclusion here or in your real life. That kind of behaviour (acting without thinking/ generalizing/ judging) is just as wrong as the actions you are defending.

Thank gosh our country's judicial courts operate on a higher standard than what you (Anon) just exhibited or we would be in a lot of trouble! No?

As Napoleon Dynamite said for Pedro, I say the same for our friend.... I vote for Ferro.

I easily can imagine Sergio being the bad guy. He has NO scrupples.

Hey and wasnt it Sergio who accidently fired his gun at about the same time Ruitilio died? Im thinking they will say it was his misfiring that killed Ruitilio.

PS. Thanks everyone for your nice comments. Really makes a girl feel good!

Plus Margaret you said some great things too!

Lynn, you are absolutely right that there should be some sort of Public Service addendum/disclaimer attached to the show. I remember once watching All My Children and one of the characters was raped. The actress came on before and after the show with a speech like "This is a story, but if you have been abused in real life please don't suffer in silence and become a victim for the second time, call ****** ." I remember being impressed that the show used the story line as a way to actually dispense some good info to probably a very young viewing crowd. On the other hand, with this show it might turn into all disclaimer and no show!

I want to see the big mouth bass kiss! I know I'm going to be totally grossed out. Can't wait!!

Sergio might think that women are ruining his life. He has the most boring job on the show, all he gets to do is guard Soledad and he fails at that because women and a dog keep outsmarting him. Nora openly shuns him and prefers the love of "an idiot" (his words NOT mine). He pushed her in the river when she rejected him. He shot Alina and got in big trouble. He pushed Alina in the marsh, left her there and got in big trouble. He couldn't find Soledad and Alina and got in big trouble. He lost Blanca and got in big trouble. I'm sure there are more examples.

Lynn, terrific recap! Great title! Thanks!

Malena is the cousin. I think the things she is doing are counterproductive, but it’s telenovelaland and lots of stuff is counterproductive. I was really, really put out with her thinking she has the right to tear up the letter.

Alfonsina might get what she deserves yet. That’d make us all happy.

I don’t know why Father Cristóbal is apologizing for the room. Floralina has been living in a cave for two years.

Re: Nora telling Gaspar that they can make more babies and leading him away….does ANYONE in these hidden mountains get married before they proceed to this step?

“He kisses her with a large open mouth. Their tongues touch. They are two large open mouth bass.” Sylvia, I nearly fell off my chair!

“She is not pregnant! Just look at her!" Gaspar thinks they might be deceiving him.” Points for Gaspar!

Margaret, I'm with you. I'm a pacifist, basically, but I was glad to see Pancho gone. You think we could get Tula to work on a few others?

Ferro "Don Loco was trained in tracking by whatever military couldn't find Jose before. As long as there is one blade of grass to hide behind, nobody will find you." ROTFL!! I agree that the attacker could be Sergio. I also thought of Jeremias, but I think he stays in town. Castulo is just a good ol' boy who welcomes a good time when he sees one coming. He doesn't go looking for it by force, and he doesn't need to.

Ferro, you said there are two women who agree--make that three women who agreed with you about a TV CHARACTER'S motives. And more than three who just love ya here.

Sylvia, you said "Hey Ferro, I've tried to write this to you twice but I was in such a snit I had to walk around the block to cool off.

I think you do a better job than most of us ("us" being practically all women) of being very PC in your recaps and comments. I have always appreciated that and I thank you for it now. I didn't find your comments offensive, this is a telenovela after all."

HEAR, HEAR! I agree! The best thing, I mean the VERY best thing, about Duelo is the recappers and commenters. I would have given it up in the second week but for y'all.

Lynn and Susanlynn, don't you think that anytime Soledad and Alina begin to have storms in their brains we're in for trouble?

Jeanne

OK, I just NOW watched this show. Lynn, you were absolutely spot on about the open mouth bass. What a scream!! Oh I love that comment, I'm going to think of it every time I see Emilio kiss.

I was thinking some more about who could have raped Rosita, maybe the other kidnapper? Wasn't he roaming around delivering ransom notes that night? I just find it a bit of a stretch that it was somebody who knew Rutilio, unless, as one of you suggested, Rutilio got shot accidentally.

Good points, Sylvia.

I'm back. It's late. There's been a lot said. There's probably been more unsaid. I just want to add that I love Ferro , too, and have never been offended by anything he has ever commented on here. I enjoy his recaps and his comments. I always look forward to reading his clever recaps. He makes me laugh , and laughter is a very good thing. There is so much darkness and sadness and heaviness in this life. I like to come here because in a world filled with lots and lots of really real reality, we can share some fun here. Love you , Ferro.~~~Susanlynn, being serious...for a moment

Castulo and Sergio are the prime suspects. Or maybe it was Don Loco, envisioning Rosita as Soledad? Okay, that's a stretch... Orlando? Nah, he was in the living room with Angel when the rape happened. Whoever it was had a Maxi-coat, so I'm wondering if it was someone who purposely wanted Rosita to believe it was Max. Or maybe other guys in Sierra Escondida own Maxi-coats.

So now we don't just have Coughing Angel, now we also have Coughing Thelma.

I usually don't like it when characters get killed off, but I really hated the scenes where Pancho abused Tula. So I'm glad she got him out of the way. What a horrible person! Much worse than any of the regular characters on the show.
