La Fea Más Bella #230 3/13/07 Carla may be crazy, but at least she has fantastic hair!
At the Padilla house asks if they've spoiled the baby enough. [He's referring to Tomas who is chowing down like it's going out of style!] Tomas jokes that troubles are alleviated by bread. Julieta asks Tomas when Lety will be home. He thinks that Lety will return at about 10pm or 11pm. Right then the phone rings. Erasmo answers. Aldo explains that Lety is with him and they've had a problem with the contract. El senor Lauro "Orchard" had an unforeseen event and now they have to meet tomorrow morning. Aldo says that Lety and he can return to the D.F. but they won't get back until the middle of the night and then they'll have to get up really early to make the meeting. (This logic never worked with my mom but okay, Aldo, give it a try.) Julieta thinks this will be dangerous. Aldo continues and tells Erasmo that he thinks that he and Lety should stay the night and then come home in the morning. Tomas, who is listening to the conversation, thinks this is a good idea. Erasmo tells Tomas to sit and eat. Erasmo says it's okay for the two to stay where they are, but Aldo must remember to take care of Erasmo's daughter. Aldo reassures Erasmo and at the same time shakes his head at Lety to tell her that they have Erasmo's permission. Lety is speechless. Back at home, Erasmo announces that Aldo inspires Erasmo's confidence.
Omar, who does not seem to grasp that his friend is desperate, smugly tells Fernando that Aldo and Lety are still in the car and they have not moved. Anyone else notice that the car doesn't have a license plate? Entonces, Fernando asks how long they've been the car, are the windows steamed up??? Omar says no. He notices that the lights have come on. He assures Fernando that the couple must be returning to Mexico. Omar drops the phone, but never hangs up, and drives after the Focus.
In New York Fernando tells Crazy Carla that she's very intelligent and that her company is very pleasant. Crazy Carla smiles and goes back to texting someone from her cell phone.
We return to the Padilla house! Tomas thinks that Erasmo made a good decision. Erasmo sarcastically thanks him. Julieta thinks that it's a good thing that Erasmo finally has confidence in one of Lety's friends. Erasmo replies that he can't explain it, but he likes Aldo. After he says this, Erasmo stares off into the ceiling of the home. Julieta asks if he feels okay. Yes, he was thinking that Aldo is a lot like Erasmo, himself. He's sensible, prudent, formal, reliable - a man that recognizes the value of family. Tomas and Julieta effusively agree. Julieta makes one joke that Erasmo's blue eyes are just like Aldo's. Erasmo, of course, doesn't laugh, and brings it back to the fact that Aldo is a gentleman. Tomas continues with the joke, making fun of the way Aldo sits. Tomas's imitation makes Julieta realize that the reason Tomas died his hair was to look like Aldo. Tomas weakly denies this. Julieta thinks that the whole world wants to be like Aldo. (Yuck!)
Still in the hospital, Crazy Carla asks Fernando if he's in love with his boss. Yes, Fernando replies. He tries to explain that Lety was his assistant first and then his boss. Crazy Carla thinks that she must be very attractive and sensual. Yes, very sensual! Fernando replies. He explains that he did something bad and it really hurt Lety. Crazy Carla replies that out of revenge Lety went to San Miguel with Adam. Aldo, Fernando corrects her. [saying the last name correctly, for once.] Fernando tries to explain Aldo to Crazy Carla but can only come up with "He's an idiot." Crazy Carla asks if this means that Lety is not in love with Aldo. Fernando calls Crazy Carla intelligent. Crazy Carla explains that if she were Lety and she loved Aldo then she would spend the night with Aldo in San Miguel. (Tricky, tricky, Crazy Carla) Fernando replies that Lety is not capable of that. He feels that Lety loves him. At that moment Omar calls and informs Fernando that Aldo and Lety are staying in San Miguel, together. Fernando looks sick and stupefied.
In San Miguel, the Focus pulls up to the local resort. Omar also gets the spot seemingly reserved for all Conceptos' employees, right in front of the door. He tells Fernando that he's watching the couple. In one of Univision's spectacular cuts, we don't get to hear anything more from Omar, but from Fernando's response Omar must have told Fernando that they've arrived at an hotel.
Lety cannot explain it, but whenever she's with Aldo she always ends up in some marvelous place. Aldo replies that he hopes they can pass the night together. They go to the desk to get two cabins. Aldo gives Lety the key to the "house of the sun." The reception lady suggest that the pair dine in one of the cabins. Aldo asks if the cabins have chimneys; the lady says yes. This inspires Aldo to ask Lety to dine with him. She accepts. Aldo pays and off they go to their cabins! Omar approaches the desk and asks the reception lady if the couple plan on lodging at this location. She affirms. He tells Fernando to wait a moment, and then sneaks from the desk. In New York, Fernando wants to know what's happening.
Omar pretends that he's in Titanic and steams up the windows of a buggy. He watches Lety and Aldo enter a cabin together. He tells Fernando that the best thing to is to forget about Lety forever. Somehow, six foot Fernando curls himself into a two foot ball and whisper/screams into his phone. "Why! What's happening fool!" Omar's reply doesn't inspire confidence. "All women are the same." Fernando threatens Omar and demands he tell the truth. Omar reluctantly tells Fernando that Lety and Aldo are in the same cabin. This time, Fernando really does look like he's going to get sick.
Fernando drops his phone. He softly tells Crazy Carla that it was nice to meet her and good night. She stands up to detain him and asks what happened. "Something catastrophic." He replies. Fernando takes his leave of her and apologizes to one of the men in the waiting room. Crazy Carla makes a phone call to her ex-husband, Octavio, to tell him that she has met a very interesting man. He's handsome, intelligent, funny. (She missed "and crazier than me!") The problem is there are faults; a perfect man does not exist. She explains that Fernando's in love with a beautiful woman and that he's a little unstable. She's sure that she can cure him and make him all her own. (Oh boy, good luck, Crazy Carla).
Aldo comes in and says that the sky is beautiful. Lety sits near the fireplace in a seductive pose, in a not so seductive dress. Aldo thinks she looks beautiful. She says that they're celebrating the day. Aldo likes this! He decides to toast. Aldo notices that Lety is tense. She agrees and goes for a grape. She attempts to feed it to Aldo, but it falls into his wine. She leaves for another. She drops this one in her wine. Aldo likes to see Lety like this, so tranquil. They're drinking their wine when the dinner arrives. Aldo asks for a favor, but we cannot hear what. He returns to Lety. They drinks their wine, which is strangely grapeless.
Omar continues to watch the couple. The waiter steps in front of Omar's binoculars’ and asks Omar if the waiter may help Omar with anything. Omar doesn't mess around. He wants to know what's going on in the cabin. The waiter asks for Omar's identity. At first he says that he's Lety's boyfriend, but after the waiter reacts, he changes it to he's Lety's brother. He's guarding her honor. He asks the waiter if the couple are clothed. Of course, the waiter replies. Omar asks if they're by the bed. The waiter replies that these are private things and that Omar should not involve himself in them. Omar leaves for another location and is frightened by an owl.
Fernando wanders around New York, asking himself why he's there. He's surrounded by so many people and feels so alone. He knows that the worst thing is that all of this is his fault. Aldo appears, and Fernando sends Lety directly to Aldo's arms. Now Lety is in a hotel with Aldo when the only hotel she has been in with a man was with him. He stands alone in central park, crying.
Omar is also alone, but in a very different element. He falls from his perch and gives a very manly scream. He gets back up and can see shadows through the curtains. The phone rings; it's Fernando who wants to know what's going on in the cabin. Omar says there is fire. Omar gives a romance novel worthy description of the scene.
Back in the cabin Aldo feeds a burned marshmallow to Lety. She talks about liking the music. Aldo asks Lety to dance, but she protests that she does not know how. Because no obviously means yes (as Julie mentioned) they dance anyway. Lety steps on Aldo's feet several times. She breaks into her Fea dance. He follows her lead. They decide to try dancing together again. All of a sudden, they dance together like they've been doing it for years. They spin and Lety moves in for the kiss.
Fernando is still in New York talking to Omar. He demands that Omar stay in San Miguel all night if he has to! Fernando wants to know everything that happens, even if Lety makes love to Aldo. Omar didn't hear him, so Fernando wanders around Time Square and repeats himself. He repeats his catch phrase. "Only God knows how much I love you." To this he adds, "Only God knows the pain it will cause if she and Aldo fall in love like I love her."
Back in the cabin Aldo and Lety are still "this close." AT the last moment, Lety pulls away. Aldo doesn't understand why Lety doesn't desire him. She explains that she does, but that she cannot betray herself or her feelings.
Fernando wanders around New York some more. He cries, and sees Lety in the one of the advertisements on the street. He thinks to himself that he wants to dream about Lety forever. Crazy Carla, somehow hunts Fernando down in Manhattan. [Her ankle/knee must be healed] They hug. He tells Crazy Carla that he cannot handle this. Crazy Carla tries to console him, and leads him away by the hand.
Lety explains that she doesn't think they should not pass the night together. Aldo says that he would have to stop being himself to not want her. Lety says they've never been a place so favorable to love. Aldo leans in to kiss her. She tells him that she cannot because they tore out her heart. Aldo catches on that Lety said "they" and not "he" meaning Fernando. Lety briefly tells the story of Miguel and the bet. Aldo says that when there is love, the limits between the body and the heart disappear. The two become one. Lety says she lived this, with Fernando. She only wanted to make him happy. "And this made you happy." Aldo responds. When she found out that she was betrayed she wished that the nights that they made love would disappear. Her pleasure turned into embarrassment, pain and anger at uniting her body with that of a traitor. She cannot avoid it. When she thinks about making love, she thinks she's going to suffer. He says that he understands, this happened to him as well.
In Fernando's hotel, he and Crazy Carla sit and talk. She says that the same thing has happened to her, and she has the perfect formula to forget ungrateful love. Fernando assures that he's done everything to forget about Lety. She asks him what he's really done to forget about Lety. He doesn't want to tell because it's embarrassing. She wants to hear it anyway. He explains that he almost became an alcoholic. He takes a long drink of wine and then pulls himself back to explain that he's not an alcoholic now. He's very moderate with his drinking. He remembers when he went to the bar to have the men to beat the memory of her out of him. She changed his life. Before, he had many women and seduced them all. She says that he looks like a womanizer. He interrupts and asks if she's read Casanova's memoirs. She does not know how much he suffered. He was a pupil of Fernando and Omar. Fernando says that once he made love for the first time with Lety, it all changed. Carla asks if he had another girlfriend when he was with Lety. Ay, Marcia. Oh, she's still his girlfriend! Carla shakes her head in disgust. He replies that since he made love with Lety he has not been able to touch Marcia.
Aldo tells Lety a story and we come in the middle. He says that he knew that she suffered a lot. He loved to sail, prepare delicacies on the beach, kiss her without needing more. When she died in the accident, and he found out she was his best friend's lover it was like a blow. She lived unsatisfied with Aldo. He felt so culpable. He wanted his role to reverse with that of his wife. He wanted to be in the tomb so that she could live. Her death made him realize that everything he loves, has to die. But this wasn't the biggest pain of his life. That was when his mother died. He lost direction in his life. Lety says she's never lived through such pain. Aldo replies that it got to the point where he thought that death would always snatch away love.

There are many good reasons for drinking,
One has just entered my head.
If a man doesn't drink when he's living,
How in the hell can he drink when he's dead?

I felt he was pushing her in every way. I
cannot bear to watch. I enjoyed Carla
and Fernando's scenes because I feel sure
he will remain true to lety. That scene
in Times Square with him crying was heart
rending. Poor Fernando. I'm finding this
part of the novela tough going.
Thanks for such a quick post.
It was funny that Omar fell from that tree. Fern called Omar Carvajal in English that was cute.
I still dislike Carla more so if she thinks that by getting Fern into bed, he will forget Lety.
Fern in Times Square with tears in his eyes was very said. Mi pobre Fern.
Omar was really funny. Fernando owes him big time for all that he went through for him.
In the preview, I thought that I saw Carla without her clothes, please tell me that I did not see that. Is Fernando going to succumb to her advances? She really has done nothing but push herself all over Fern since the day that they met.
Darn that Carla. She is a major nuisance. It’s amazing how good the medical care is in NYC that her injury healed so fast. ;-)
I felt sorry for Fern, but I feel equally sorry for Aldo because I think he is going to end up frustrated and sad when she and Fern end up together.
Jeanne
Aldo into each life a little rain must fall...oh yeah by the way was your best friend's name Sancho?
Okay cheap shot...Aldo was Sancho'd
...smirk smirk...
Omar you go above and beyond the duty for Fer...you are my first choice to party with.
Now then...
Aldo nice marshmellows...you are the chef
Lety No one...but No one dances like that except someone with a spastic condition. Seriously Aldo was trying to help her out with a generic slow dance and all the sudden she lost all muscle control..Sometimes she is just way over the top.
Fernie crying in Times Square - there are no words!!!!
This may be a silly question, but does anyone know how Lety managed to change into that purple dress? They weren't planning to stay the night, and she did not have luggage? Did she buy a dress at the gift shop?
As for the age, yes, I think Lety is probably playing someone in the early twenties, because she was supposed to be a recent college grad with a little experience, right?
I was thinking the same thing. Aldo looks way to old for Lety, that to me makes their relationship iffy.
Melinama,
I totally agree. It's time for Fernie to man-up and tell Marcia that it's over.
As we all know in a TeleNovela many things happen that leave you scratching your head saying WTF? Now throw in 8 months of extensions and soon you meet characters with no real reason for being there, plot lines that never go anywhere, and character disintegration. You keep watching hoping for whatever you orginally liked about the novela, but we are living in a material world & the revenue from extended advertising is what it is really all about.
Just one of those trivial things that run through my head when I'm watching the crazy antics of the characters I love or love to hate!
Crazy Carla, I love the name. She does remind me of a murder mystery psycho.
I think maybe she and Fern will just get to the point of "almost" and then he will say no. If not, well I love him anyway even with all his flaws.
Creepy Aldo. I wonder if Lety will give in?
I'm liking Omar more and more. He's cute and funny. What a slave to Fernando!
Thanks so much Amanda!
Carrie L.
I also wondered about Lety's miraculous clothing change and as to her age...I think it must be older than early twenties because she had all those graduate studies as well, plus a job at the bank before she came to Conceptos. So I'm thinking late 20's in the telenovela and God bless Juan Soler for looking every bit of his 41 years (but I still love Fern). Judy
The Aldo/Lety scenes were annoying to me. Fireplace cliche romance and where did she get that purple dress? The great chef who can't toast a marshmallow (only amateurs or really impatient people burn them.) Dancing to Fern and Lety's song caused me to yell at the tv.
I don't like Carla, either and her desperate eagerness to snag a man. The best scenes were Fern displaying his heartbreak. Impressive how he managed to look deeply sad and sick at the same time. Lonely boy in the big city, wandering Times Square with tears running down his face, was just too painful, but he did show some awareness of his faults. In the closeups of his sad self--the peach shirt was very flattering. Nice threads, Fern.

You said:
"Well, I may be a stickler, but as long as Fern is LIVING WITH MARCIA his professions of love to Lety come off a bit "muddled" let's say."
You missed your calling. You would have been a dynamite school administrator. You have the right stuff.

I wonder if Ocampy made a mistake when the song besame played for aldo and lety? Maybe she wasnt't thinking. Really!!. Melinama, I meant that omar owes fernando this dedication, not that you were wrong about fernando's behaivor, such as living with marcia. I agree that fern needs to end the relationship with marcia, since obvious she will hang in there for life, if allowed to do so. With Omar, I am beginning to really like this person. He is so sweet and so "thick" at the same time ROTF

I’m glad that others were bothered by ‘Dueña de mi Vida” being played while Aldo and Lety were dancing. I was really annoyed because I think of that as being Lety and Fer’s song. Then there was the marshmallow toasting. Aldo calls himself a chef, but everyone knows that the slow toasted light brown marshmallows are the best. I’m sorry, but Aldo’s little sob story did not get to me last night—I must be really bitter towards him. But then, I’ve never claimed to be an Aldo fan. Yeah, Juan Soler was looking a little rough around the edges last night, but he’s still not hard on the eyes. However, he is no Jaime Camil.
My heart so melted for Fer last night. I know you all know that I’m a sucker for Fer and his puppy dog eyes, but he looked so incredibly sad last night when he was wondering around NYC (was that Times Square?). His comment about being alone/lonely around so many people---what a hollow feeling that is. Kudos to Jaime for his portraying Fer’s pain so convincingly. What an actor!! Yes, Fer’s clothes looked very nice last night---but I miss him in yellow and nothing beats his Cuernavaca outfit. He’s yummy in all white.
Omar in the car, Omar atop the tree, and Omar’s squeal when he fell were all highlights of last night’s episode. BUT what made last night really great was the lack of the cuartel. Yipee!!! What a breath of fresh air.
Carla really is a Marcia who blinks, they are two peas in a pod. What is with these two women? Why do they keep going after Fer when they know he is hopelessly in love with Lety. Just plain craziness.
Speaking of Omar I had to laugh when he questioned the waiter and then quickly said Lety was his sister. After the waiter left he was still mumbling to himself about his sister like she actually was. God the man in worth the price of admission these days.
Lety will hold out against the overly pushy Aldo but Fern and CC have me a little more worried. He is awfully vulnerable and he is in another one of those Marcia help me forget moods. I just hope his basic decency comes to the forefront and he tells Miss Hotpants that he can't do it. He belongs to someone else. If he slips between the sheets with her, like often happens in novelaland I'm going to be ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS.
Carla may be crazy but apparently she has the same radar as Marcia to track Fern down in Times Square, unless she was stalking him all along. And what is with calling your ex to brag about a new guy you think you can snag. What? Another person with issues? And this late in the story.
Those close ups of Juan Soler are starting to creep me out. You can see that those chiclet teeth of his are obviously veneers and his nose really looks like he has a scar and that it was broken in the past. He also has those light eyelashes some blond men have which always makes them look weird to me. OK so I'm shallow and I much prefer dark men. LOL
The song bugged me as well and what is with Lety, wonder woman , who for episode after episode couldn't dance to save her life - witness the spastic bit in front of the fireplace. Then suddenly she and Aldo are Fred and Ginger.
They simply have to find a woman for Omar. He is the one breath of fresh air lately with his hopeless antics. I just want to see some woman bring him to his knees like Lety has Fern.I just know with all those fireworks something will happen to him., like catch his hair on fire or something. I can't believe he is going to get through this day without being caught by Aldo and Lety.
I'm NOT saying Fern doesn't feel what he shows. I love Fern! I want him and Lety to end up together because they are both at their best when they are silly and immature! BUT BUT I think Fern has gotten away with an awful lot in this life by being gorgeous and having puppy dog eyes, and he assumes the magic will always work for him. Please note that he has had a cavalier attitude towards many people who help him, people he casually assumes will go out of their way for him.
Perhaps you note, in my irritation with Fern's weakness, that I have had personal experience with such a "tipo." Beautiful people with puppy dog eyes get away with WAY TOO MUCH.
Never mind.
There's nothing sadder than a man crying in Times Square.
The purple dress - hmmm... either she bought it there or perhaps she was already wearing it under her suit? (Yes, under her jacket AND skirt!) I don't remember what she was wearing under her jacket. I thought it was another white blouse but maybe not? In any case it was a surprise to see her arms again.
I thought Aldo's reaction to the story about Miguel and the bet was interesting. It was very different than Fern's reaction. Fern reacted with outrage and was ashamed of himself (although evidently not enough to put an end to the charade). Aldo responded by telling Lety a story of his own. I don't think he was making this about himself - just letting Lety know that he knew the pain of love too.
Which makes one wonder why he's so eager to jump back in, except, he's had a few years to get over it, and Lety's had only a few months.
I really want to see a Lety that tells all the men to "f" off for a while, regains her personal strength, and then falls back into a good healthy relationship with a much more mature and unencumbered Fern. Ahhh, there I said it.
That kiss made me sick. Sheesh, and I love Aldo!!!!
True. But so do beautiful people with polished manners and smooth personalities. The worst boys I knew in high school were also the ones who were best at charming girls' parents.
But here in novelaland, I've lost my moral compass. I've fallen for a loveable scoundrel! A scoundrelly (?) love?
Just wondering....is everyone else enjoying him guilt-free? Like a delicious, rich dessert? No guilt, not one tiny bit?
Fern is wound up pretty tight these days (maybe from the lack of a female companion), but I don't think CC has a chance of getting him in bed!
I agree that Lety should not be leading Aldo on...and Aldo need to give her a little more space. Her little plan to annoy Fern & Omar is back firing and she is stuck. I too want to see her independent for a while..
I don't feel any guilt for loving Fern, because I am extremely amoral when it comes to my feelings for fictional characters. :-)
"Darn that Carla. She is a major nuisance. It’s amazing how good the medical care is in NYC that her injury healed so fast. "...
That was too funny (I'm telling you he's growing on me). Actually what he was saying was something like my sister, yikes, my poor parents or something like that.

I'm sitting here at lunch just laughing away at all of your well made comments. My favorite of the day, so far, is >>>And as far as him being a renowned chef, the only proof we have is some sliced up cactus on a bbq grill and a burnt marshmallow. The flavor of love indeed! <<<
Also, I feel no guilt for crushing on Fernando, my TV boyfriend :-). He's just so neurotically adorable.
I'm with you. in Acapulco Lety started to show some spine and independence but once Aldo started working on her with his mumbo jumbo she has regressed into a self absorbed mouse. His constant droning on about love and the spirit not the physical is reinforcing her lack of self worth based on her looks. It isn't taking her away from it it is merely shifting her dependance from her parents to St. Aldo.
As someone said he has conned Erasmo into thinking he will take care of Lety and protect her but there he is in in the hotel room making the moves on her. I find it very distasteful especially since he knows very well that she loves Fern. Worse in my eyes, I think he also is fully aware that Fern loves her. I wonder if and when he will tell Lety that Fern was in Acapulco and obviously distraught when she ran away or if he will just conveniently forget it since it would not serve his purposes if she knew she is wrong about how she thinks Fern feels.
Janet
Last night when poor Fern was wandering around in Time Square I couldn't help thinking I wonder if PG will magically show up to give him some advice because he sure could use some support from someone.

Some of us think Aldo is pretty cool. Maybe we are just those of a certain age. (Present company excepted, -speaking only for myself, of course).

No mas Sancho por Aldo...
Aldo will not take the risk of Fer weaseling his way back into to Lety's life (and I say weasel with the greatest affection)..I can say I would not even hate Fer/Omar in real life, can they take the hits pretty well considering they are rich upperclass guys (in MX a big deal). Also I am fictionally enamored with Omar, I like the shallow mocking ones.

Why not? they could marry civil...in MX according to the govt. only civil marriage counts, if you marry in the church, you must also do a civil marriage..by the way...Fer had planned to go thru with his marriage to Marcia (civil) obtain a divorce and then to hook back up with Lety...at least he and Omar had discussed that

I loved Amanda's report that he was also frightened by an OWL.. (What a HOOT)!! Sorry, couldn't resist.... He has really been stealing the show lately.
Melinama, I agree totally with your reasoning concerning Aldo, and have made similiar statements to that effect. Nice to know I am not alone, here. lol.
That said, Fernando really got to me last night with the tears-just hope he doesn't do anything REALLY nuts-like going to bed with CC ON THE VERY NIGHT OF THE DAY HE HAS JUST MET HER!!
To be fair maybe I am being too hard on her because I grew up around strong independent women and my sister's and I know how to stand up for ourselves and to deal with really terrible things like suddenly being widowed or losing our siblings to cancer. Poor Lety has been so smothered by Erasmo and Julieta that if her parents and Aldo weren't around I don't think she could function.
Cassie
I think the reason that so many of us hope for a Lety Fern ending is exactly for the things you mentioned. They had so much fun and joy together something that was sadly lacking in both of their lives before they came together. I think watching this struggle and the lack of joy is a direct result of the extension of the story. Had they not gone in for all the extra crapola we might now be seeing a make over and some happiness for two people who desperately need it. At this point Thank God for Omar, his faces, his screams, his total frustration with his dear ex-president and his total lack of understanding of Fern's love for the Fea or or that matter love in general.
Ah, only in make believe land could you feel that way! The fact that this isn't real life makes it so much fun.
In fact, real life tends to suck at times compared to La Fea!

But,this new chapter with Lety and Fer being apart, and hurting is not fun at all! It's not murder and rape, but it's still dark & sad.
So far, Lety is "growing confident" because Aldo pushes her into new experiences, not because she decided on her own to try these things. To her credit, at least she does them.
Lety & Fer have very few scenes together. We don't see together much, or even having a good fight! Zilch. Nada. Now it's Aldo and the hopeful chick of the moment with Fernando. Blech.
The "quimica" that made it so good was Lety and Fernando - together. I really miss that.
"These were the happy days, the salad days as they say..."
you can take that to the bank
