Destilando Amor - April 10, 2007 when it rains, it pours

* Night time at the ranch - Gavi is standing outside the door of her little cabin, talking to herself about her thoughts of Rod.

* The next morning, Rod is having his coffee at the dining room table. Roman comes in wearing his rain poncho. He reports to Rod about the workers having the day off due to the storm. Rod asks about Gavi - Roman tells him and then leaves.

* Hilario and the guys sit under the fieldworkers shelter talking, Roman joins them - Roman and Hilario convince a reluctant Gavi to sing her mariachi songs - the band starts and she sings "Gaviota" for them.

* Her singing is so loud that Isa hears it and wakes up in her bedroom. Isa walks to the window and looks out through the rainstreaks - Rosalia (?) enters - Isa asks who's singing - Rosa tells her Gavi, the fieldworker, is. Isa asks where Rod is - Rosa says in the dining hall and leaves. Isa wonders what the name of the jimadora is that Rod is rumored to have had the affair with.

* Gavi's singing continues. Isa enters the dining hall and finds Rod there. The phone rings - Isa takes the call and leaves for the hallway to talk. Rod watches and then leaves. In the hallway, Isa asks Fidelia for the name of the jimadora in the rumors.

* Gavi, Hilario and others are at the shelter - Gavi is still singing her mariachi songs. Rod gets soaking wet as he walks toward the shelter - he enters and stands to watch Gavi and the guys.

* Isa gets dressed and is talking with Minnie on the phone. Isa tells Minnie all about the rumors of Rod and his love affair with the fieldworker. Minnie is shocked - Isa is upset and can't stand the fact that her husband had an affair with someone else.

* The guys applaud Gavi when she finishes her song. Rod shouts and they all turn to see him standing there. Rod asks to talk with Gavi in private. The guys return to the tables. Gavi and Rod walk to a quiet corner. Rod needs to explain his side of the story from the past year - about seeing her accident but before he could discover it was her on the pavement, he received the call from his uncle about his parents' deaths and had to return to Mexico, he explains how he heard the rumor about her and her mother dealing with the the photographer and his uncovering her sensual photos at the vacated studio - he was hurt, disillusioned and angry - he explained that he married Isa only to try and forget Gavi and the pain he felt. Gavi is angry and hurt listening to his explanation - he begs her for another chance, for understanding - she is still disillusioned and bitter over his marriage to Isa, the saint - he tries to bribe her with money, house, whatever - she rejects his gifts outright, her love can't be bought and sold, she has her dignity and self-respect. He begs - she tries to leave - he grabs her - she pushes him away and then throws her heartache over her baby's death in his face.

* Isa puts on her make-up and continues to confide in Minnie on the phone.

* Gavi confides her heartache and struggles in London when her baby died and afterwards. Rod sits and listens, with tears in his eyes.

* Isa finds Roman in the kitchen, she asks where Rod is, Roman says he went to the fieldworker shelter. Isa leaves to find him.

* Rod wants to hold Gavi and love her. Gavi's heart has hardened and she's much wiser than before - she won't make the same mistakes again - Rod says "Gaviota" and then kiss. Gavi breaks away and says she went to Europe for love, she returned and found disillusionment - now he's married and until he gets a divorce they can never be together again. She walks away into the rain.

* Isa arrives at the shelter and finds Rod - she asks where the workers are - he says they have the day off - Rod walks to the car in the rain.

* Gavi runs to the cabin - Clara wraps a towel around Gavi inside the cabin. Gavi tells her mom about her conversation with Rod. Gavi recalls her meeting with Benvenutti in Paris and how kind and helpful he was towards her. Gavi says she has no more interest in Rod - Clara is shocked; Gavi says that she and Rod kissed and it meant nothing to her; Clara is sad; Gavi says the kiss was a "good-bye" kiss.

* At the main house, Rod and Isa dry off. Isa leaves for the other room - Rod calls James, he needs to see him, Rod hangs up, has a tequila shot, and thinks of a plan to win back Gavi.

* In Mexico City, Aaron and Minnie are walking downstairs of their condo as Minnie informs Aaron about the rumors of Rod's affair with the fieldworker. Aaron is surprised. Aaron is determined not to let the rumor stop him from winning the inheritance and Minnie assures him that she is on his side. In fact, she went to the doctor and he has given her a clean bill of health - she can get pregnant at any time. Aaron is happy and they kiss.

* Rod and James discuss how he plans to win back Gavi - how to prove that there isn't anything between Rod and Isa, he wants to divorce Isa soon to help prove his devotion to Gavi - he wants to be with Gavi forever.

* Gavi wakes up during the night as her mom sleeps. As Gavi starts to make a loud racket packing her stuff, mom Clara wakes up. Gavi says that she is getting ready to leave the ranch forever.

* The rooster crows - on the sofa, Rod wakes to the sunlight streaming in and hitting his face. Isa is awake and laying in the bed. Rod slowly wanders by the bed, looks over to check on Isa and then leaves the room. Isa is quietly fuming with jealousy.

* Gavi and Clara are carrying their stuff through the agave field. Gavi tells her mom about how Rod offered her money, clothes, a house -- all to make her be his mistress -- and that she had to reject it for her dignity and self-respect. Clara understands and stands by her daughter. Roman finds them in the field and asks where they are going - Gavi says far away. Roman gives them their paychecks. They accept the checks. Roman offers to drive them to town - they decline the offer - they prefer to walk and carry their own things. Gavi and Clara walk down the path, away from Roman.

* Rod goes down to the living room - Isa shouts for him to stop and asks him where he's going - He is leaving to work in the fields - The phone rings - Rod leaves - Isa answers it, it is Fidelia to tell Isa to be careful with Rod's lover, and what else she had uncovered about Gaviota, that she went to Europe to become a call girl.

* Rod meets with Roman in the field - Rod asks where Gavi is - Roman says that she and her mom have left the ranch.

* Isa shouts for Hilario and demands directions to Gavi's house.

* Rod is baffled by why Gavi and Clara left the ranch. As Rod walks towards his truck, Isa appears and is steaming mad. She yells at Rod to tell her what is going on between him and the fieldworker whore - Rod is aghast - Isa says she's his wife and demands an explanation - Rod doesn't have time to talk right now and climbs into his truck and takes off. Isa runs to Roman get some answers.

* Gavi and Clara are in town, they get their stuff ready to board the bus. As Rod arrives in town, yelling and searching for Gavi, Gavi and Clara board the bus and sit in the back - and they hide behind the chicken cages and other luggage to keep from being spotted by Rod. Rod sees Gavi in the window as the bus starts to pull away. Rod runs up to the bus and bangs on the window. The bus stops - Gavi and Clara are frozen in panic - Rod begs the driver to allow him aboard to search for Gavi. Rod boards the bus and looks back and forth at all the seats - Gavi and Clara cover themselves really well with a large blanket and Rod doesn't take the time to look underneath - he can't believe it, he thinks he is mistaken and that he's lost Gavi forever. He gets off the bus, baffled and bewildered. The bus drives away, Gavi and Clara take off the blanket; they cry, hug and Gavi tells her mom that yes, indeed, she still loves Rod.

* Isa is crying to Minnie about her husband blowing her off when she went to confront him about the rumors. Isa is angry and bitter and more determined than ever to get an explanation and to be Rodrigo's wife in more than name only.

* Rod meets with James and Crispin in the town plaza; they discuss Rod's desire to find Gavi and Clara and get them back in his life, he can't live without her. Crispin offers his help and then leaves. James asks what Rod plans to do about his current wife, Isa; Rod says he wants a divorce as soon as possible.

* On the bus, Clara and Gavi discuss Gavi's plan to live in Mexico City.

* Isa is furious and scolds Rod as soon as he walks in the door. Rod tells Isa all about his promise with Gavi to return in one year and marry her. Isa is shocked - Rod continues to explain Gavi left because of his marriage to her - Isa is extremely upset - Rod then demands that he wants a divorce - Isa is furious and says that she will never permit that to happen.

Hi JR.

Thanks for your great recap. The action is still moving pretty fast and I'm still enjoying the ride. I feel badly that TWB is morphing into an angry woman. She made a dumb deal in an effort to get married and thinking she could win Rod over to her "charms." (It is amazing - and a necessary plot point - that two people would agree to such ridiculous conditions for marriage.)

Also is Hilario a name that is not of Latin/Spanish origin? I ask because "H" is pronounced. Thanks in advance.

Karen

I enjoyed the recap. I see TWB AKA Ice(nickname my niece and sister came up with) is showing her true colors now. Rodrigo was still sexy in this episode. I used to feel sorry for TWB but you know not really anymore. She knew he did not love her and the arrangement they had. She should not be acting how she is. If I am not mistaking she even said she would fire the jimadora that Rod was having the affair with a year ago. Hello earth to Ice you have no power here, you are not in charge as Rod reminds her every day she is nobody to him. She needs to get a reality check always asking for her husband. So how is she planning on staying married if they have not even commenced the wedding? She must be dumb, leave it to the novela to make it hard for Rod to get a divorce though.
I am still loving this show it moves fast and I hope it does not drag on now that gavi has left.
On the ? you had about the name Hilario my husband says it is pronounced like AH-LAR-DE-O In Mexico usually. It would be easier to tell you how it is pronounced but I tried to write it for you. The middle part that has the Lar sound would be like taking the name Larry and taking off the y so lar So like alario or alardeo or ahlario I hope you get what I am saying lol

Good recap...TWB..you just don't get it!

Last nite my husband & I were LOL over the tequila breakfast, those people were seriously drinking copious cupfuls of Tequila and it was breakfast time. Also when Rod was having his conversation with Gavi, I kept saying this guy is so cute..finally I added this like is fourteen and at that my husband busted out laughing.

Well Rod I think you have been married like 4 days...not workin out is it?

Well, first and foremost, for the remainder of this telenovela, it should be the rainy season in Jalisco because Rodrigooo should be wet from this point on. I thought he was hot.... but WET ,he is muy muy hawt. Last night, I found a great website that has lots of photos , biography, articles, and a list of all the American and Mexican movies and TV shows he has been in. They even had photos of him as Clark Kent [wow] and Superman [with the blue and red suit bodypainted on...How do you get THAT job?] The site is : http://www.eduardoyanez.cjb.net/ I like this novela. Can you imagine Emiliooo running after a bus and banging his hand on the side of the bus to make the driver stop??? I thought El Toro would be dragging Gavi off that bus, but noooo. Now how long will they be separated and how is he going to detach TWB from his life???? You have gotten yourelf into one mess here, Hombre.^^^Susanlynn, good with a brush and paints

Thanks, J.R.!! I am sooooo glad that everybody on the set literally has gotten their act together these last 3 episodios, even if the first few episodes were rocky going. The pace in this beats Alborada's and as M S says, "that is a very good thing." // Julie: Antonio works for me, too! ;? ))

Roman's character is quickly becoming my favorite. I love seeing this guy's expressions whenever he sees trouble on the way and how he high-tails it over to Rodrigo to warn him off whenever the Ice (as in Queen) is in hot pursuit. --Tammie that nickname is so perfect!! She is like hot ice that sticks to your skin and is painful when you try to peel it off! Rod is starting to feel it burn about now, too.......

I love the way Roman protects the main characters from each other, and especially that "chip off the old block" goofy grin he gives Hilario now.

I'm so relieved everything is out in the open now. I didn't like Rod sneaking off to see Gavi with Isadora not knowing the score. It made me feel sorry for her. Now that he's being completely honest with her about Gavi and Isadora is turning into the vengeful anti-bride, it's easier to root for him. I think Isadora will truely turn vicious now that she realizes that Rod is totally immune to her charms. The whole time she was being hyper sweet and patient it was just her arrogance that in the end she would have her way. Gavi was so right not to settle for mistress status, and to flee. Now is Rod's chance to prove he's truely worthy of her.

Great recap, J. R. This novela is moving fast. Beckster, you crack me up!! Rod IS cute. And Susanlynn, I plan to check out that website in a minute.

Yep, Rod is going to be miserable with TWB, aka Ice. She will probably be showing her true colors now and will be known as the wife from hell! - Becky T

I'm back from my hiatus in no-Univision land and ready to recap tonight. How unusual and refreshing that, at this moment, all the major players know the truth about everything.

I am so enjoying the recaps (as always!)--thanks to you all for the excellent recapping jobs you do. Jardinera--you mentioned the other day that to you, chemistry was Sergio and Yadhirra in Amarte es mi Pecado....do I ever agree! I loved that novela. I read that Martha Julie (TWB) was in La Madrastra, but I cannot place her--has her appearance changed that much? Speaking of La Madrastra, isn't it a hoot that the actors who played brother and sister in that novela are now Hilario and the "in-the-hay" girl?
I like Roman, too....I remember him from Salome (my first novela).

LindaT.

Practilaties? How on earth is Gavi going to survive in Mexico City with a mother who is ill. She has no practical work skills or sufficient education to earn a good living. However, maybe this isn't necessary in the world of fantasy :)

I fear they're sending them to Mexico City cause it's way cheaper to film there. And no dust in the camera lenses.

I thought Gaviota had rocks in her head when she turned town Roman's offer of a ride into town. Maybe SHE would prefer to walk, but her mom is recovering from typhoid!!

Yeah, my husband and I laughed over the jobs skills in Mexico City thing...but seriously she could go to work for a produce vendor in the marcado..My husband's brother does that in Morelia (goes out to the country & brings back produce and sells it in the markets), yeah he makes an okay living doing that & he always has some kid from the ranch working for him...but could the kid earn enough to live on...that would be a big NO..the kid is always living with the family rent & everything free...soooo
But I have faith in spunky Gavi...she will be alright..after all she has her lucky wristwatch, her agave shovels and she can wale out a tune....

I had the impression (with my feeble spanish)that gaviota was going to Londres to the man who gave her the money in the restaurant. She had already told her mother about this before; yet last night when she was preparing to leave, she spoke and (it showed)the man in the restaurant giving her tickets and I think money. I was thinking she was going to try and go there and pick him up, so she can forget Rod. This is somewhat like La Fea. Rod's wife married him knowing there was no love. Marcia was going to marry Fernando knowing he did not love her. Gaviota may try and forget Rod through hurting someone else. Lety is hurting Aldo to get even with Fern. DUH

Thanks for the grammar lesson Tammie.

And I agree with you that she was only playing nice because she knew she could manipulate Rod into bed. Oh well.

I am also pleased that people know the score at this point in the novela (and in that way it does resemmble Alborada. On a side note did anyone notice on La Fea that one of the men buying Aldo's place was Gasca. He actually looked nice) I hope they can keep this up!!

Karen

Reposting: Does anyone know the actual name of the song that Gaviota sang tonight? I loved that song, but can't find anything online where I can hear an audio clip? Maybe these songs too new?
I saw an album on ebay with music from the telenovlea but that's it.
Is Angelica singing that song for real? Is she supposed to have a good voice? Seems all these telenovela actors are singers!

Goodness, I have never seen so many women DEMAND the love a man who clearly is in love with someone else (referring to Destilando (Isabela), Fea (Marcia), Duelos (Thelma), etc etc. I mean I am not sure that I have seen anything to this extent on American tv--but maybe that is because I only watch spanish soaps je je

People...people...people...give Marcia a break, she had a lifetime invested in Fer & like she said he dabbled but always came back, then he dumps her for a really awkward ugly chick...who was right there everyday...now if I was Marcia, well I would be upset too.

Now Isabela or TWB that is a different story, she was marrying into a "Will & Grace" situation, I mean come on, even his cousin thought Rod didn't like the ladies, he told her upfront no sex. Besides a couple of volleyball games, she was even invested in the guy...& well Thelma is just BSC.

TWB & Marcia of LFMB are drinking the same Kool-Aid..They both think interrogation of a man's whereabout, sticking to them like glue, having them followed, making the romantic dinners, marrying on whim(I hold Rodgrio more accountable for this rush marriage than TWB,even though she was available for the taking) perfume on the cleavage, sexy underwear, short skirts, wide belts, known you since childhood, etc. will get Fern & Rodgrio? Not a chance. Marcia is finally seeing her defeat, but TWB will be what most have said here or least we saw from last night show--hell on wheels(or high heel boots in this instance),as there's no vengance like a woman scorned.Rod will curse the day he met this one,and Gavi too. She will not go quickly into the night.PS: Pepe Aguillar (not sure of the spelling) is the singer on Destilando Amor.

jr thank you!

yes that's angelica's voice in the gaviota song... not bad huh! i think it might be soon to find it onlin, but you can buy the CD off ebay. the song is called "Ay Gaviota".

as for me, i am in love with the 'por amarte' song by pepe aguilar!! i never thought i'd like regional music, but this song makes me feel like i'm living pure love on an hacienda...

beckster i forgot to give you props yesterday for the name you gave to the "in-the-hay" girl...SanWanna....LOL!!! that was the best description of her...

i see the point that most of you are making in regards to isa...yes, she did this to herself by marriying under those circumstances, but hey, when people are in love we do stupid things. she was in love with the man and this was her opportunity to win him over, so she took it thinking she could change him. she probably could not imagine that rod would not succumb to her alluring plastic hair, boobjob and fatless muscles...

I know this is not going to be popular, but I kind of like Isa! Even though I am rooting for Gavi 100%, I feel sorry for Isa. It's all downhill from here for her. She could have had a much better life if she had stayed in the city and not married Rod.

In my opinion, there's no better singer on this planet than Marco Antonio Solis..All others are just practicing..Regards..

As for Gavi and her mom leaving for Mexico.... Remember she learned some skills in London. She learned English, French, I think, and a smattering of German. Maybe that will help her get a job. Maybe she will become rich???-Becky T

Maybe Gavi is a super intellect :) I've been trying to learn some French, Spanish and Italian - and its taking me many years. Many years ago I was trained to be a Latin teacher. I'm fluent in a Dutch dialect - but am still not fluent after 2 semesters in German at a community college.

Maybe she'll get a job as a trainee nurse.

Incidentally TV5 has English translations of the news at 6pm (EST) as well as many of the movies - several times a week. Neither TV5 nore RAI seems to have closed captioning.

I feel no sympathy for Isa...she's an opportunist. She married for money, social status, her "amor" for a great looking guy would help her situation and who cares what he wants. She'll just change him. ha

She's so mad because it's probably one of the few times in her life she hasn't gotten what she wanted. Who can resist the plastic hair, boobs, and attitude?
jb

I'm confused here about where TWB comes from? She's not from the wrong side of town,is she? Aren't her parents just as well off as the Montalvos or did I miss something?

Gavi went to school while she was "laid up" in Londres. She's beautiful, intelligent, assertive, and don't under estimate her because she wasn't born of wealth and worked in the agave field. I can't wait to see her develop as a woman in the work place.

Rodrigo is not a give-up kinda guy..He will find Gavi, but the enjoyment will come when it's payback,if he still has (TWB) on his arm.

Linda T: Martha Julia played the strawberry blonde, slutty trophy girl Cesar Evora's character was supposed to marry until his first wife (Vicki Ruffo's character) was let out of jail and reappeared in their lives.//

The CD is called Destilando Amor and it is Pepe Aguilar's with 18 cuts and I think most are from the novela. It recently came out in Mexico and is flying off the shelves. I haven't seen it for sale up here, but I am right there with you, tash, on this regional music thing. The instrumentals -especially the intense flamenco that was playing when Rod snuck out of the bedroom the last morning --and the song AR sung inside the open-air shack for the campesinos. (That was a definite two hanky scene.) The words for "Ay, Gaviota" I feel are just hauntingly beautiful because they are so appropriate for the storyline.

I have heard that mariachi borrachero version of "Por Amarte" sung by one of the old time guys in some grainy old 70's mariachi western flicks and it was never anything but slapstick stuff. This version was 2 thumbs up in a circle!!

Isadora's parents have some money, but their business is having financial difficulties, or something. So TWB must have felt some pressure to marry up before her parents went bankrupt.

Hi exportred,

TWB is Trophy Whore Barbie a classic term developed by our one and only Beckster. Tammie also introduced a new name for Isadora as well, Ice.

Karen

Agreed, the music in this show is definitely a cut above. That being said, here sits another soul deeply enamoured with Marco Antonio Solis. Count me in as one who feels he is on a different plane altogether.

For those who cannot or don't wish to make a choice, Marco Antonio Solis and Pepe Aguilar did an album/CD together, Dos Idolos which is very good.

Loved the recap JR. Thanks!

Sylvia & Exportred: Marco Antonio Solis is top flight!

What does Marco Antonio Solis sing and is he related to Manuel's nemesis in Amor Real Adolfosolis??? The only Spanish music I have is a cd by Luis Miguel and another by the mariachis at Epcot [who thought hub and I were stalking them because we showed up for so many of their performances at the Mexican pavillion...well, in truth, I think Ricky Nelson's twin sons might have had a restraining order out on us too because we went to 3 of their performances.] I always say ''more is more'' and ''too much isn't enough.''~~~Susanlynn, trying to exxxpand her musical horizons

Maybe Luigi will hire her as a model - or am I mixing up novelas :)

I've no idea what her prior training was in Mexico but one year's schooling in Britain would certainly not qualify her to be a linguist.

Susanlynn: I have Trozos de Mi Alma which has "Antes de Que Te Vayas" from Mundo.

Susanlynn, you always have the funniest stories!

Marco Antonio Solis released a CD last year called Trozos de mi Alma Vol. 2 which is, IMO, on of his best CDs. On it is a song, a re-release from an earlier version of his, called Antes de que te Vayas which was used as the theme song for Mundo de Fieras. So if you saw the show and heard the opening theme song then you heard him. I got turned on to him when I worked in a kitchen and some of the guys used to play his old band Los Bukis. I instantly fell in love with his voice.

Maybe Marcoantoniosolis and Adolfosolis are distant cousins...

Jardinera, Martha played Ana Rosa? The bimbo who was supposed to marry Cesar Evora's character in La Madrastra? thank you so much for telling me that.....I would have never figured it out on my own. Now I am writing down names of CDs that you all are discussing. Are the (English) words to Ay Gaviota online somewhere?

LindaT.

Jardinera654- On the Pepe Aguilar DESTILANDO album you refer to, what about the AY GAVIOTA song--I thought Angelica sings that? Not on the album? And why doesn't itunes have POR AMARTE available- Is that such a new song?
Talking about Marco Antonio Solis--One of my favorites--is MAS QUE TU AMIGO- love that! Great for dancing, too!

I am really enjoying this telenovela. Maybe because it is the first time (I think?) where the protagonists know the score up front; despite the fact that we may have to wait many months for a resolution, at least the main characters don't have to live with complete misunderstanding and deception most of the way through. Makes a difference to me!
Meantime, who is the mother of Eduardo's real life son? He doesn't compare to Eduardo- guess the mom wasn't so beautiful. Does anyone know if he played football in high school or college? AND...does he speak English? Can't believe I am getting obsessed with him, while still totally obsessed with Jaime Camil. This Eduardo- hijole!- que cuerpazo! And I don't think he looks this way solely from lifting weights at the gym every day (like most of the galanes). He's just got the genes.

I love this novela. Rodrigo and Gaviota passion is just so real. I usually don't watch novelas but this one is good.

For the person who asked about Hilario being a name of Spanish origin, it is. Its actually of Portuguese and Spanish origin. Its from the Latin name Hilarius meaning "joyful, happy"

I'm from Puerto Rico and this name is very common there.
